- 0:58Hello everyone, and welcome to another episode of the Beyond Fulfillment podcast.
- 1:02I'm your host, Dave Goulis, and this week my guest is political strategist, number one bestselling author, speaker, and the host of the Prosperity 101 podcast, Linda J.
- 1:15Hansen.
- 1:16Welcome, Linda.
- 1:17Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:18I look forward to our conversation.
- 1:20Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:21We appreciate you taking the time to be here, if you could, for everyone.
- 1:25Linda, can you give us your backstory and how you got into being an entrepreneur?
- 1:31I think I was born an entrepreneur.
- 1:33My father was very entrepreneurial and I'm very, very thankful for that.
- 1:37While he did at many times work for another company, I could see his thought processes.
- 1:45And early on he involved me in a lot of decisions about marketing and things.
- 1:50Even like at 8 year old or 8 years old, I helped devise a marketing branding slogan for a company that he worked for and it ended up being their marketing campaign for years.
- 2:00So, you know, that kind of taught me that business can be fun and you can just do a lot of innovative things.
- 2:07So I'm really thankful to my father, who was an entrepreneur.
- 2:12And then later in life he started a restaurant chain.
- 2:16And so in high school, I was running restaurants, I was supervising restaurants, I was hiring and firing my peers.
- 2:22And as I mentioned here before, we recorded.
- 2:25One of the greatest lessons I had was one time when I came home from high school, I think I was in 10th grade at the time, and my parents said, well, honey, we need to, we need to talk
- 2:36to you.
- 2:37And they sat me down and told me that they had actually had to empty my savings account to pay payroll that day.
- 2:45And, you know, I learned like, what a sacrifice it is to be the one who signs the front side of the paycheck.
- 2:52And, you know, we were, I Was, like I said, hiring and firing my peers.
- 2:56Right.
- 2:56And they had no idea what was going on behind the scenes so that they could get paid and we didn't.
- 3:02And that's so often the way with entrepreneurs.
- 3:04You know, we pay everybody else.
- 3:06We pay our vendors, we pay our 10, 99 people, we pay our employees, and at the end of the line, we're going.
- 3:12Is there any love for me?
- 3:14But it's such a great journey and I wouldn't have it any other way.
- 3:18I mean, I have been a W2 employee at times over my lifetime, but most, mostly I love being an entrepreneur and being self employed because it gives me so much to.
- 3:31So much freedom, so many choices.
- 3:34Yeah.
- 3:34Yeah, absolutely.
- 3:35Wow.
- 3:35And that's, that's incredible experience that young, like in high school, kind of learning about the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and, you know, having that hit so close to home where all your money got emptied out to make
- 3:47payroll.
- 3:49They paid me back eventually, but yeah, so.
- 3:54So what, like, what was that experience like too?
- 3:57Like for, for, you know, you.
- 3:58Like you said you helped your dad with marketing when you're very young, you got into, you know, supervising and running, you know, the, the businesses as, as a teenager.
- 4:07I mean, what was that like at that time where so many other people aren't, you know, it's like a different experience than most teenagers are having.
- 4:15Well, I felt older, you know, and I actually got married young.
- 4:18I got married just a couple weeks after I turned 19, and I didn't feel like I was unprepared for life.
- 4:25You know, we had our first child a year and a half later.
- 4:28I never felt like, oh, adulting is hard.
- 4:31I mean, when I grew up, adulting was not a verb.
- 4:33Like, being an adult, it was not a verb.
- 4:37We just like, I'm so thankful for the work ethic.
- 4:42You know, my daughter, my youngest daughter, posted or sent me a meme she saw, and it was a guy in a car having a temper tantrum.
- 4:50It was one of these ones where the guy's screaming in the car and he said, the feeling you have when your parents leave you a generational work ethic instead of generational wealth.
- 5:00And we have six children, and we've all laughed about that.
- 5:03But I've actually had them say they'd rather have the work ethic because they can create the wealth.
- 5:08So with a good, strong work ethic, you can create your wealth.
- 5:11You have your choice voices and, you know, if.
- 5:14And I homeschooled all my kids because I wanted to teach them how to think not what to think.
- 5:23And that's what I do now with my Prosperity 101 work, too, is really trying to help people understand how to think about issues and policies that affect their daily life and their business, their paychecks, but not what to
- 5:37think.
- 5:38I mean, if you give the people the right information, they'll come to a logical, right decision, but they have to have exposure to that information.
- 5:46Just like, you know, I had to learn what it was to be an entrepreneur as a mom.
- 5:51I had to study and learn how to be a great homeschool mom.
- 5:54I got involved in politics because I cared about freedom for my family.
- 6:00I wanted to make sure my kids grew up in freedom.
- 6:03And, you know, and one thing led to another, led to another, led to another.
- 6:08And, you know, at one point in life, I was second in command of a major presidential campaign, and who knew?
- 6:15I mean, I was a homeschool mom, you know, but God had different plans, and I'm just really thankful.
- 6:22And when you are an entrepreneur, you have the opportunity also to pivot and excuse me, and take what you've learned so that you can make it better, make yourself better, make your offerings better.
- 6:35You have the opportunity to learn.
- 6:37I feel like there's nothing worse than being in a position where you have all the responsibility and accountability of a position, but you have no authority or resources.
- 6:49And I've been in that position, and I don't like it because, you know, if your hands are tied to do the job that needs to be done, it's very, very unfulfilling.
- 7:01And so that's what I love about being an entrepreneur.
- 7:04Okay, wow.
- 7:05So a whole lot to unpack there.
- 7:07And we will.
- 7:08But I.
- 7:08One thing I want to go back to, as you mentioned, you're so grateful for, you know, such a strong work ethic that you learn growing up.
- 7:15But.
- 7:16So being a mom is hard enough, and then six kids is incredibly difficult as an entrepreneur.
- 7:23But then on top of that, homeschooling six kids as.
- 7:27As a working.
- 7:28Like to talk about what.
- 7:29What that experience was like and how.
- 7:31How did you manage such a.
- 7:33Such a monumental task?
- 7:36Well, I would say one, I put my trust in Jesus Christ and prayed hard every single day.
- 7:41Right.
- 7:42But so prayer and God's strength, and I give all glory to God.
- 7:46But apart from that, you know, there's seasons in life, too.
- 7:50I truly believe that.
- 7:51Yes.
- 7:51Can women do everything and have it all?
- 7:53Same with men.
- 7:54Yeah.
- 7:54But you have to realize the seasons in life.
- 7:57For me, I took a step back professionally when my children were growing Up.
- 8:03And I just did things out of the home that could be flexible to my children's schedule.
- 8:10So I wasn't managing restaurants when I was raising my children.
- 8:13I chose not to.
- 8:15I, I chose to stay home.
- 8:16And my job, my full time job was raising and homeschooling the kids.
- 8:21Everything else came second.
- 8:24And so, you know, I look at the return on that investment that I made, and it was incredible.
- 8:29From college scholarships to just kids with great work ethics and great skill sets and wonderful adults that, you know, I, I'm just so thankful for those years.
- 8:41I didn't, you know, earn money the same way I may have had.
- 8:45I stayed in the restaurant business, but the rewards were unbelievable.
- 8:49And I think that's one of the things we need to consider as entrepreneurs too, in whatever we do is for me, my priorities are God, family, country.
- 8:59And so we have to look and say, what are my priorities?
- 9:03And every yes you have, there's going to be a no.
- 9:05Every no you have, there's going to be a yes.
- 9:08And so you have to look and say what is most important.
- 9:11Like, if I died today, what would be most important?
- 9:13You know, and for me, it was making sure I had time with my children, raising them, teaching them, preparing them for adulthood.
- 9:22And everything else came on the side.
- 9:24So all my political work and everything was a volunteer until most of my children were out of the home.
- 9:31And then things began to escalate quickly, and before I knew it, I was, you know, running a presidential campaign.
- 9:38But, you know, I felt like that was just also, in a way, God, honoring the fact that I kept my priorities.
- 9:46So to all entrepreneurs out there, any listeners, keep your priorities.
- 9:51You know, the only thing eternal is the people that are around us.
- 9:56And, you know, money doesn't buy happiness, fame doesn't buy happiness, power doesn't buy happiness.
- 10:03You know, and a strong relationship with God and keeping great relationships with your family members.
- 10:09I mean, what's, what's more important than that?
- 10:11So don't be afraid to put things at the side.
- 10:15I mean, I had years, just even more recently, where I was overseeing all the care for my mom.
- 10:22I had to turn down and not even pursue some of the things professionally that I was absolutely passionate about that I knew I could do well with.
- 10:31I knew that I could excel and it would take me places that I just couldn't wait to go.
- 10:37But at the same time, I knew I had to take care of my mom.
- 10:41And she was my highest priority at that point because she had no one else.
- 10:46And so it impacted me negatively Financially, it impacted me potentially negatively professionally.
- 10:55But maybe not.
- 10:56I mean, that the story is not done being written, right?
- 10:59But I look back and I say, I wouldn't trade any of that, because when my mom passed away, I was with her.
- 11:08And the very last thing that I did with her as I sang Psalm 23 to her and she died, as I sang the last verse, when it said, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever,
- 11:19I.
- 11:20That was her last breath.
- 11:22And I think that was all the payment I ever needed.
- 11:25So as an entrepreneur, I was able to say, I can make my work go around my family.
- 11:33My family comes first, my work comes second.
- 11:36Yeah, that's incredible perspective, too.
- 11:39And particularly, like you said, the story is not done being written, but just seeing these different seasons of life.
- 11:45And then you can point, because you can always connect the dots looking backwards.
- 11:49So you can point to, like, listen, I sacrificed money and professional goals to really be there for my family.
- 11:56And then when the time was right, boom, Like, a blessing came right away because.
- 12:02Because I.
- 12:03I had my priorities straight.
- 12:04And you can.
- 12:05You can see that, right?
- 12:07You know, during that time when I couldn't travel as much and couldn't serve clients the way that I normally would, that's when I actually started my podcast and I updated my book.
- 12:17People can get my book, prosperity101.com or on Amazon, but they can contact me at prosperity101.com but that's when I updated my book, I started my podcast, I created my online course that's available for employers to share with employees.
- 12:33I mean, those are things, you know, I was able to pivot and say, okay, if I can't do what I normally do, like, I normally can serve clients, I can travel around.
- 12:43You know, this was before COVID but then Covid hit, which impacted everybody negatively.
- 12:48Right.
- 12:49So you have to learn to pivot and be able to say, well, what's the good in this?
- 12:54And how can I prosper in what I'm doing?
- 12:58And, you know, I also think we have to look at that word prosper or the word prosperity.
- 13:04I tell people, even though my company is Prosperity101 LLC and my podcast is Prosperity101, I tell people, prosperity isn't just money.
- 13:17Prosperity is so much more.
- 13:20It is peace of mind.
- 13:21It is, you know, human flourishing and freedom.
- 13:25Prosperity is really human flourishing and freedom.
- 13:28And that's one of the reasons I've been so involved politically, is because without that ability, without that freedom for human flourishing and, you know, humans to thrive and grow and innovate and Excel.
- 13:43What do we have?
- 13:45You know, we don't have freedom.
- 13:46We don't have prosperity.
- 13:47True prosperity doesn't come from money, it comes from freedom.

- 14:43I love, I love that definition for sure.
- 14:46And like, let's talk about some of this work because it all ties together as far as your political work, your courses, the Prosperity 101 podcast, like, talk about how that got started and why it means so much to
- 14:59you.
- 15:01It means so much to me because actually when I held my first child in my arms and he opened his eyes and looked at me, I felt God say, I want you to fight for freedom so he can
- 15:11grow up free.
- 15:12So to me, this is a calling.
- 15:14It's not just a job, it's a calling.
- 15:17So I have worked for free.
- 15:19I have worked for lots of money.
- 15:20I, you know, the money part of it to me isn't what matters, it's fulfilling the calling that I have on my life.
- 15:28So, and that has, like I said, been everything from a presidential campaign to writing to, you know, all kinds of things, right?
- 15:35But when I started Prosperity 101, it was because, excuse me, it was because I was talking to business owners all over my state that were telling me they would leave the state if a business friendly governor wasn't elected,
- 15:52to which I immediately realized millions of people go to a voting booth every single election and vote themselves right out of their jobs.
- 16:01They have no idea, they have no idea that government does not create wealth.
- 16:06You know, so all these people who think that government is the source of our sustenance, you know, government programs and things, government has nothing until we give it to them first.
- 16:17And so the only way the economy can grow and the only way even the government can grow other than they keep printing money causing inflation and things, but the only way the government can grow really in a healthy
- 16:29manner is to have healthy businesses.
- 16:31Business drives the economy and business is what pays the employees.
- 16:39Business pays taxes.
- 16:41Employees pay taxes.
- 16:42Government has nothing until we give it to them first.
- 16:46And I think there's just a huge misunderstanding in our nation and really around the world about the role of government.
- 16:52I mean, our government was set up to protect our rights, not to give us our rights.
- 16:59Our government was set up to protect our opportunity, not to provide our opportunity.
- 17:06You know, like, we have this freedom, but we've, we've let it go.
- 17:11And so as I was talking to these business owners all over, and one time I was talking to, you know, the nationwide top managers, Hundreds of like 500 top managers from this, you know, very famous company.
- 17:23And I felt like the Lord told me they get it, but the people who stock the shelves and check people out in their stores don't get it.
- 17:31And I want you to write a book.
- 17:33So that's where this came in, the very first edition of this book.
- 17:37And it was really taking people through foundations of prosperity, really introducing them to the very basics of our system of government.
- 17:46Like, why can we even have this human flourishing and freedom?
- 17:49Why can we have this here in America versus, you know, some socialist or communist countries?
- 17:54What's the difference?
- 17:55So we're talking a fifth grade, very easy read, introduction, right?
- 17:59Then the policies of prosperity, the very economic policies that make for, you know, good, sound economic policy and good business growth and development.
- 18:10And that means, you know, lower taxation.
- 18:11If you tax something more, you get less of it.
- 18:14If you tax it less, you get more of it.
- 18:15Art Lapper said that.
- 18:17And it's very, it's shown itself true through history.
- 18:19So it's very simple things.
- 18:21And to anybody out there who's, you know, been forced to pay a higher minimum wage or things, and you have to cut payroll because of it, you know, we, we have to educate people and say, you know, sometimes
- 18:32these unfunded mandates aren't as helpful as.
- 18:35As people think.
- 18:36Right.
- 18:37So I take people very simply through foundations of prosperity, policies of prosperity, and then how to protect their prosperity by becoming informed, involved, and impactful.
- 18:47And that's incredible because it's just a basic civics course.
- 18:51I mean, it's the things people should have been learning in fifth grade but didn't.
- 18:56Right.
- 18:56In the last several generations.
- 18:58And I really like any employers out there, I beg of you, start talking about these issues to your employees because you are the last line of defense for our nation.
- 19:08If we think of the assembly line of education of American citizens, we go through preschool, grade school, high school, college, and it seems like now in college they're learning to protest.
- 19:20They're learning to identify by all sorts of identifications that aren't necessarily factual, but they're learning how to protest and they're begging us to pay for it while they do it.
- 19:33There's something wrong with this.
- 19:35I say, okay, we've got these 20, 30, 40 year olds in the workplace now.
- 19:41Who's taught them these basics, who has taught to them, and who is better positioned than employers?
- 19:49And so to every business owner out there, I say, please, please just educate your workforce.
- 19:55I have a free ebook on my website.
- 19:57You can just go get the free ebook.
- 19:59Sign up for my podcast where we dive into all kinds of issues, whether it's the border, human trafficking, the economy, energy, you know, education, school choice, family issues, everything.
- 20:14We dive into it and say, how does this affect a business?
- 20:17How does this affect a family, how does this affect a community?
- 20:20And connecting the dots.
- 20:22So, you know, employers, please, please talk to your employees so they know when they go to vote, what they're voting for.
- 20:30I also have, you know, for anybody who really would like to do so before the election even, I have a really easy to use poster pack.
- 20:38You can just download these posters, print them off as many as you want.
- 20:42They're just, you know, regular letter size posters that you can put up.
- 20:45But one of them I think is very significant.
- 20:48It is the Bill of Rights and it says, are you voting for a person who will protect your rights?
- 20:54A lot of people have never even read the Bill of Rights.
- 20:57They really have never even read the Constitution or even just simply the Bill of Rights.
- 21:02And so if we can just get people to think about it a little bit, you know, don't tell them, you know, what to think, but just teach them how to think.
- 21:11And I think that's just one of our most important roles as, you know, entrepreneurs, as citizens, as parents, as leaders.
- 21:19It's important.
- 21:21And clearly you're very passionate about this work and this project, this book you've written.
- 21:26What was the process like when you've not been an author, you've had a wide degree of experience, but then just got done homeschooling and then you jump into politics and then you have this calling to write this book.
- 21:41Like, what was that process like?
- 21:43Having never done that before?
- 21:45For me, it was easy because I've always been a writer, okay?
- 21:48I've always been a writer, and it just was easy.
- 21:53And I feel like I said, I felt like I was called.
- 21:55So literally, I felt like the book was in my head before it ever hit the Paper.
- 22:02And then the follow up to that is I created a facilitator guide for employers.
- 22:07I did workshops, you know, if any of your listeners want me to come and speak or do a virtual workshop or in person workshop, or they want to use my online course, that's great.
- 22:17I also have, like I said, a facilitator's guide where it really helps.
- 22:21You can do it as, you know, a lunch and learn or a day long seminar, or just have people work independently, it doesn't matter.
- 22:30But I really wanted to make it so easy.
- 22:32So for me, the process was just getting it down on paper.
- 22:36And then I had to learn, like, how do I, how do I publish a book?
- 22:40How do I do this?
- 22:41You know, but again, you just, you learn how to think, not what to think.
- 22:45So I learned to seek out people who knew more than me.
- 22:50And I think that's really important in business and in anything we do.
- 22:53You know, we, we don't know everything, so we have to seek out the people who are the experts.
- 22:58And so I was able to do that.
- 23:00And I'm, I'm very thankful for that.
- 23:01I have another book coming soon, but I don't want to spoil the surprise.
- 23:07All right.
- 23:08And you know, like you said, these concepts so often aren't talked about in that way, you know, at the mainstream level.
- 23:16So, like, what's the response been from these different companies you consult with and these different people you've been engaging with when you, when you've been sharing your book and this work?
- 23:26So many people say everybody in America should read this, should go through this.
- 23:31I mean, I've had CEOs and things of very, very large companies.
- 23:36Tell me, every person in America should read your materials.
- 23:40It's so missing.
- 23:41It's so simple, it's so helpful.
- 23:45So really, it's been, it's been great.
- 23:48There has been some time especially, you know, where people are maybe afraid to speak up.
- 23:55And I try to help them understand that this isn't even political, like they may.
- 24:01I've had some people say, well, putting up the Bill of Rights and this poster that says, are you voting for a person who will protect their rights?
- 24:08You know, oh, I can't do that.
- 24:09That's too political.
- 24:10So I try to walk them through and say, that's not political at all.
- 24:14That is the basis of our nation, of what our founding documents are.
- 24:20That's what our nation, you know, was, was built on these freedoms, protecting these freedoms and just helping people understand that so they think about it and don't take it for granted.
- 24:30You know, usually they will go, oh, oh, okay.
- 24:33You know, but most of the time, people are just thrilled to have the information.
- 24:38They love it.
- 24:39They wish I could get to more people.
- 24:44You know, I feel thankful for that.
- 24:46So if anybody out there wants to help support the work, I have a Prosperity partner link on my website, prosperity101.com but also if you're a business out there, I don't care how many employees you have, if you'd like
- 24:58to talk to me about licensing my material to use in your business, please contact me.
- 25:03I'd love to work with anybody who wants to get this information out.
- 25:08Okay.
- 25:09And one more, one more question too.
- 25:11So the podcast goes hand in hand with that work.
- 25:14The podcast is called Prosperity 1, Prosperity 101.
- 25:18So what was, what made you decide to start the podcast?
- 25:21Well, because I couldn't get to every business.
- 25:24You know, same with the online course.
- 25:26I mean, I used to go into businesses and do, you know, on site presentations, but obviously you can't reach every business like that.
- 25:36Right.
- 25:36And I wanted to make something so easy and simple and accessible for people.
- 25:43And same with the podcast.
- 25:44I wanted to highlight these business owners and these policies and, and be able to help people kind of break it down and understand how policy affects paychecks.
- 25:55And so being able to interview business owners, being able to interview regular people who are in different jobs and being able to interview experts in various areas, you know, in energy or economics, or, you know, I just interviewed
- 26:12a border patrol agent.
- 26:14And, you know, I mean, these, these things are so important and it helps people to see something a little behind the scenes.
- 26:20So to me, it was just a way to get the message out in a way that is much more accessible and understandable for the listener or the viewer.
- 26:31Because, you know, life is so busy, we have so many things coming at us.
- 26:37And especially like, if you're a business owner, you've probably got a family, you've got your business, you've got, you know, if you've got kids, you've got baseball, soccer, orthodontist, you know, all these things that you're running to.
- 26:51Life is so busy, it's hard to see through the, the, the mess, right?
- 26:57See through the chaos.
- 26:58And so my goal is just to kind of simplify that down and help people look at things in a little bit different way, where it's like, oh, I hadn't thought of it.
- 27:09You asked what people say a lot.
- 27:12So many people contact me and go, wow, I never thought about that issue like that.
- 27:17Or, wow, I never realized, and that it gives me joy.
- 27:24Love it.
- 27:25All right.

- 28:27Thank you so much.
- 28:28I appreciate it, and thank you for what you do.
- 28:30I think it's great that you encourage entrepreneurship.
- 28:33You encourage entrepreneurs, and it's really great to hear from other people, you know, their own journey.
- 28:39It helps us when our journey seems, you know, winding and maybe not.
- 28:44We're not looking at it from the top of the mountain.
- 28:46We're looking at the big hill up ahead.
- 28:48Right.
- 28:49And it's encouraging to hear.
- 28:50Hear other people's stories.
- 28:52So I hope I've been in encouragement today.
- 28:54Yeah, absolutely.
- 28:55And that's the point of the podcast, too, to bring other people's perspective and learn from their journey.
- 28:59And, you know, we're all trying to do the best we can, and these stories, like the ones you've shared, certainly help help others on their own journey.
- 29:07Thank you so much.
- 29:09Yeah.
- 29:09So, Linda, thank you so much for being here.
- 29:11And that is all the time we have for now.
- 29:13We will see you next time.
