- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome The Money and Wealth with John Hobryant, a production
- 0:03Speaker 1: of the Black Effect Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Hey Hey,
- 0:14Speaker 1: it's John Hobrant and this is the Money and Wealth
- 0:19Speaker 1: Black Effect Network presented podcast series for twenty twenty six
- 0:24Speaker 1: and to kick off the year, by the way, when
- 0:28Speaker 1: I thank everybody that listen to the podcast in twenty
- 0:33Speaker 1: twenty five, Marty Marty talking about twenty twenty six almost
- 0:37Speaker 1: came out of my lips twenty six, twenty twenty five
- 0:39Speaker 1: and God is nominated for an NAACP Image Award. I
- 0:44Speaker 1: appreciate that. It's really just to be nominated along with
- 0:50Speaker 1: the likes of former First Lady Michelle Obama and others
- 0:54Speaker 1: is a great compliment in the same category. So I'll
- 0:58Speaker 1: take that and everything else is a bonus. But if
- 1:03Speaker 1: you want to support the nomination for us, go to
- 1:08Speaker 1: the website for THEACP Image Awards and vote for the podcast. Okay,
- 1:15Speaker 1: to kick off this year, I want to do something
- 1:19Speaker 1: a little different. No guests today, no headlines, no debate. Instead,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I want to answer a question I get more than
- 1:33Speaker 1: almost any other question, John, How do you actually run
- 1:39Speaker 1: your life? What is it that you do to become successful.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And it's not the speeches. It's not the quotes, it's
- 1:52Speaker 1: not the highlight reel. It's the systems. It's not the
- 1:57Speaker 1: hype structure, the habits, the routines at home and on
- 2:08Speaker 1: the road. I told you make money during the day,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you bill wells in your sleep. It's compounding. Success is
- 2:16Speaker 1: about compounding, and this is a compounding effect also, And
- 2:20Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a sneak peek into my
- 2:24Speaker 1: world and how I function. You like this, let me
- 2:28Speaker 1: know in the comments on where the platform where you
- 2:32Speaker 1: see or listen to this podcast. I read those comments.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I often comment on many of them. If it's on
- 2:38Speaker 1: social media platforms, I listen to you. And I'm willing
- 2:41Speaker 1: to do more of this if it's helpful. Success is
- 2:49Speaker 1: really misunderstood. Only in the dictionary does a word success
- 2:53Speaker 1: come before the word work, because it's alphabetical. Here's what
- 2:57Speaker 1: I've learned over time. Success is not about motivation. It's
- 3:04Speaker 1: about infrastructure. If your life has no structure, your dreams
- 3:09Speaker 1: don't stand a chance. I'll repeat that. If your life
- 3:17Speaker 1: has no structure, your dreams don't stand a chance. The
- 3:21Speaker 1: late doctor Dorothy Height civil rights icon, the only black
- 3:26Speaker 1: woman to own a building on Pennsylvania Avenue is the
- 3:28Speaker 1: National Council of Negro Women. I believe my friend Oprah
- 3:33Speaker 1: Winfrey actually paid off their mortgage, if I'm not mistaken,
- 3:36Speaker 1: because you respect the Dorothy Heights so much. But she
- 3:39Speaker 1: once said to me, John, I like you because you're
- 3:41Speaker 1: a dreamer with a shovel in your hand. A dreamer
- 3:45Speaker 1: with a shovel in your hand. So it's about not
- 3:50Speaker 1: just having the dream, not just having that dream, but
- 3:53Speaker 1: having the structure to execute them that dream. Again, if
- 3:56Speaker 1: your life has no structure, your dreams don't stand a chance. Today,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I'm pulling the curtain back just a little bit, not
- 4:05Speaker 1: to impress you, but to demystify success, which is I
- 4:10Speaker 1: try to do repeatedly on this podcast, because if my
- 4:13Speaker 1: life works, it's not magic, it's designed. Let's get into this.
- 4:21Speaker 1: The philosophy, the core philosophy. People romanticize discipline. They think
- 4:28Speaker 1: successful people wake up inspired every morning, energized, focused, locked in.
- 4:36Speaker 1: That's not reality. I don't rely on motivation. I rely
- 4:41Speaker 1: on systems. People get up, edgy, cranky, irritable, needing their
- 4:46Speaker 1: coffee out too late the night before. Not me. Not
- 4:51Speaker 1: typically clubs don't pay. Hanging out doesn't pay. Hanging out
- 4:57Speaker 1: with a bunch of folks getting drunk, high and whatever
- 5:01Speaker 1: it is they're doing, talking about somebody else's business. None
- 5:04Speaker 1: of that stuff pays dividends on me. You see me
- 5:07Speaker 1: at a club, know that I probably own it or
- 5:09Speaker 1: have a stake in it, or I'm meeting with somebody
- 5:13Speaker 1: who I'm doing business with, who's in the entertainment business.
- 5:16Speaker 1: There's some purpose I'm there. But anyway, people have lots
- 5:20Speaker 1: of reasons why they may not get up in the
- 5:23Speaker 1: morning feeling motivated, and maybe they might just be tired,
- 5:28Speaker 1: worn out, and so you can't rely on vibe and
- 5:33Speaker 1: energy and motivation alone. I'll tell you something, and this
- 5:39Speaker 1: is why I continue to tell people to become reasonably
- 5:42Speaker 1: the goal should be to become reasonably comfortable in their
- 5:45Speaker 1: own skin. If you ask me what my silver bullet is,
- 5:50Speaker 1: it's not anything obvious. It's that I am reasonably comfortable
- 5:55Speaker 1: in my own skin. That is like number one. So
- 5:58Speaker 1: joy comes from the inside. What happiness affects you from
- 6:01Speaker 1: the outside. You can be happy and joyful, you can
- 6:03Speaker 1: be well. You can be joyful and happy and joyful
- 6:11Speaker 1: and unhappy. But if you are joyful, you'll never be unjoyful.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Where you can be happy and not be joyful, and
- 6:18Speaker 1: you'll will. And one thing I guarantee you is one
- 6:20Speaker 1: day you'll be unhappy. So you just really have to
- 6:23Speaker 1: get that core right. And that's your first system is
- 6:27Speaker 1: your inner system. Motivation is emotional, and emotions are inconsistent.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I've said repeatedly, if you make an emotional decision, it's
- 6:37Speaker 1: going to be a bad one. Systems don't care how
- 6:40Speaker 1: you feel. They carry you on the days when you're tired,
- 6:46Speaker 1: when you're distracted, when you're overwhelmed, or just that life
- 6:53Speaker 1: hits you hard. Here's the line that governs everything I do.
- 6:59Speaker 1: If something it needs a system, and in my systems,
- 7:05Speaker 1: everything has a place. I'll get into this in a minute.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So your health needs a system, your finances needs a system.
- 7:17Speaker 1: You're thinking needs a system, Your leadership needs a system.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Your relationships I call it relationship capital needs a system.
- 7:28Speaker 1: If it lives only in your head, it's fragile. That
- 7:31Speaker 1: means also there's noise in your head. That's a lot
- 7:34Speaker 1: of stuff to try to keep together, to keep organized.
- 7:38Speaker 1: If you're keeping it all in your head or even
- 7:40Speaker 1: on little sticky notes all over the place. That's like
- 7:43Speaker 1: chaos right, just waiting to happen. You've got to get
- 7:46Speaker 1: things organized in your life so that you're running it,
- 7:53Speaker 1: or your to do list in your head is not
- 7:55Speaker 1: running you, you're running it. So let's now get right
- 7:59Speaker 1: into the JGEB Achievement formula. Let me give you the
- 8:05Speaker 1: framework that quietly runs my life. And I'm gonna if you,
- 8:09Speaker 1: as on the back end of posting this publishing this episode,
- 8:14Speaker 1: if you go to Briant Journal on my Brian ger
- 8:18Speaker 1: Ventures website, you'll see an article about this piece, and
- 8:20Speaker 1: you'll see a couple of formulas I'm gonna post there
- 8:24Speaker 1: that amplify what I'm talking about here so you can
- 8:27Speaker 1: see it visually. And I'll also do some social media
- 8:32Speaker 1: posts and I'll put those formulas a couple of the
- 8:35Speaker 1: formulas there. But my primary formula, the JGEB Achievement formula,
- 8:40Speaker 1: goes like this, and it's like a mind map which
- 8:44Speaker 1: I'll get into, okay, and this is it's a circular vision,
- 8:50Speaker 1: not a linear vision. Right vision, mission, strategy, plan, execution,
- 9:00Speaker 1: tactics to dos tow dons. Then I say assessment, reevaluation, readjustment,
- 9:07Speaker 1: and then I do a softwareup grade at the end
- 9:09Speaker 1: of the day based on what happened that day. So
- 9:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna repeat that again. This is a success formula.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna put it in places we can see a visually,
- 9:18Speaker 1: most notably my Bryant Journal. Go there to get a
- 9:21Speaker 1: copy of this, print it out, put on your wall.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Are adapted to yourself and how you're going to use
- 9:26Speaker 1: this in your own life. Starts with vision. Where are
- 9:30Speaker 1: you going? The Bible says, well, there is no vision.
- 9:32Speaker 1: The people perish, right then mission, Why are you going there?
- 9:41Speaker 1: There's a lot of folks going a lot of places.
- 9:43Speaker 1: They have no business, right, just wasting time trying to
- 9:46Speaker 1: impress somebody you really don't want to be like, just
- 9:49Speaker 1: wasting the only real assets you've got, which is your time.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Strategy I love this, How do you intend to win? Right?
- 10:04Speaker 1: Strategy speaks to structure, and a lot of businesses fail
- 10:09Speaker 1: and ventures fail, not because the product is bad. The
- 10:12Speaker 1: product may be excellent, the business actually might be decent,
- 10:15Speaker 1: but the structure is all screwed up. And strategy and
- 10:21Speaker 1: structure sort of go hand in hand. The plan what
- 10:30Speaker 1: what's that strategy look like on paper? And the plan
- 10:37Speaker 1: is what you're going to execute, which is coming next.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So this is really important to translate vision, mission, strategy, plan.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:43Speaker 1: If it's not written down, it's not real. Right, what's
- 10:46Speaker 1: that strategy look like on paper? Then execution putting it
- 10:51Speaker 1: into motion. PhDs are good. PhDs are even better. Right
- 10:57Speaker 1: then tactics the specific moves right, the specific moves around
- 11:04Speaker 1: what you're doing. And I would encourage you as fast
- 11:09Speaker 1: as you can delegate things that you don't have to
- 11:13Speaker 1: do yourself. For two decades, people around me criticize me
- 11:21Speaker 1: for paying for I'd had started a little organization, have
- 11:26Speaker 1: a great vision, and this was in South Central AA.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I'm thinking about now there's the New Leaders Organization in
- 11:30Speaker 1: Young Black Professionals, another organization, and I'd hire an executive
- 11:34Speaker 1: director of part time and I'd pay them money I
- 11:37Speaker 1: really didn't have. And they're like, John, why are you
- 11:38Speaker 1: paying that money? So I can free myself right to
- 11:42Speaker 1: do things that person can't do that only I can do, right,
- 11:46Speaker 1: And I believed in myself. I backed myself enough to
- 11:50Speaker 1: believe that I could go get some serious things done.
- 11:54Speaker 1: But I needed the freedom to be able to do it.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I needed to time the heads me able to do it,
- 12:00Speaker 1: but I need these other things done. So I wanted
- 12:03Speaker 1: to hire team leaders who could help me execute on
- 12:11Speaker 1: the pieces, the tactical pieces. They really didn't need my
- 12:15Speaker 1: attention quantitative versus qualitative, or qualitative my part versus quantitative
- 12:20Speaker 1: their part. And now I have, you know, four hundred
- 12:23Speaker 1: employees that are helping me lift what I tell you
- 12:25Speaker 1: to tell you again, you make money during the day,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you build wealth in your sleep, compounding, right, you're strying
- 12:30Speaker 1: to get it. All these things work together. So the
- 12:32Speaker 1: tactics are the specific moves that to do's that should
- 12:35Speaker 1: be obvious right, and then the too donees, what did
- 12:40Speaker 1: you get done? Right? It doesn't matter if you have
- 12:42Speaker 1: a to do list if it keeps moving every day
- 12:44Speaker 1: or every week and you never get anything to done.
- 12:46Speaker 1: You want to get some things to done so you
- 12:49Speaker 1: can move. You can grow up, as my T shirt says,
- 12:52Speaker 1: my T shirt and they says grow up. That's an
- 12:54Speaker 1: operation hope from the operation of store. By the way,
- 12:56Speaker 1: it's ordered the whole bunch of stuff from the operational store.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It's pretty cool. So you want to get things done.
- 13:02Speaker 1: So here's where most people stop. Right, if they get
- 13:04Speaker 1: this far, it's amazing. But then they sort of stop
- 13:06Speaker 1: here and they don't realize that there's a couple more steps.
- 13:12Speaker 1: After done comes assessment. You want to assess what did
- 13:16Speaker 1: you get done? What was the quality of that thing? Right?
- 13:19Speaker 1: Then you want to readjust you want a readjustment based
- 13:23Speaker 1: on the assessment and be it in. This should be
- 13:25Speaker 1: an honest assessment. To make a mistake doesn't make you
- 13:28Speaker 1: a mistake. Right to screw up does not make you
- 13:30Speaker 1: a screw up. There's nothing wrong with saying I'm suboptimal today.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't perform as well as I did.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I may as I'm messed up, I was tripped in fall.
- 13:39Speaker 1: In fact, you cannot even grow except through legitimate suffering.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So success, and you know, failure, to me is just
- 13:46Speaker 1: an outcome to experiment. It's a it's you know, if
- 13:49Speaker 1: you if you try something a thousand times and you
- 13:53Speaker 1: failed nine hundred and ninety nine times, but then you won,
- 13:56Speaker 1: Nobody remembers the failures. Right, success has a thousand mothers
- 14:00Speaker 1: and failure as a bastard child. Just keep pushing. As
- 14:03Speaker 1: my friend Tony Rushier would say, if you don't stop,
- 14:06Speaker 1: or you don't quit, you can't fail, right, So you've
- 14:10Speaker 1: got to constantly be reassessing, like a softw up grade
- 14:14Speaker 1: on your phone. You know, you get that iPhone, it
- 14:17Speaker 1: does not come out perfect, right, I got a seventeen
- 14:19Speaker 1: pro Now I love it, but you know, within two
- 14:22Speaker 1: weeks of that phone coming out, here's Apple's coming to
- 14:26Speaker 1: me with a seventeen point one software upgrade. I think
- 14:28Speaker 1: we're up to eighteen point nine now, and the phone's
- 14:30Speaker 1: been out for about a year. Because they keep finding
- 14:33Speaker 1: things that they need to fix. They keep assessing and readjusting.
- 14:36Speaker 1: That's what I want you to do. Then, I want
- 14:38Speaker 1: you to give yourself a software upgrade, right, This is
- 14:42Speaker 1: what I really want you to focus on, is giving
- 14:44Speaker 1: yourself a real software upgrade on your life daily. Start
- 14:50Speaker 1: with annually, right, Stop doing stupid stuff and start doing
- 14:55Speaker 1: smart stuff right. And then you want to get it
- 14:58Speaker 1: down to maybe monthly, trying not to put any pressure,
- 15:01Speaker 1: too much pressure on you, right, And then I want
- 15:04Speaker 1: you to I want you to do it weekly, and
- 15:10Speaker 1: at some point I do want you to get it
- 15:12Speaker 1: down to daily. I make adjustments now, literally in real
- 15:16Speaker 1: time in my life, constant software grades. I want to
- 15:20Speaker 1: wake up tomorrow better than I was when I went
- 15:23Speaker 1: to bed yesterday or last night, and then you're right
- 15:28Speaker 1: back on track with vision, a new vision, Vision one
- 15:32Speaker 1: point two, Vision one point six, Vision point point nine. Right,
- 15:35Speaker 1: it's trying to get it. That loop is everything. It means.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Failure is feedback not shame. Adjustment is discipline not weakness.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Growth is expected, not accidental. My life works because it's
- 15:58Speaker 1: designed to evolve. That's the infrastructure energy before time. I
- 16:08Speaker 1: manage my energy because time without energy is useless. If
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm exhausted, mentally cluttered, or emotionally drained, it doesn't matter
- 16:18Speaker 1: how open my calendar is, I won't perform well. So
- 16:24Speaker 1: I protect my sleep at least six hours a night,
- 16:28Speaker 1: no matter where I am in the world, no matter
- 16:30Speaker 1: what I'm doing, I get six hours a night of sleep.
- 16:37Speaker 1: My mental clarity, this is really important. That's why I
- 16:40Speaker 1: say you cannot have a bunch of noise going on
- 16:43Speaker 1: in your life. You need to get the noise out
- 16:46Speaker 1: of your head. You need clarity, emotional stability. If you
- 16:58Speaker 1: have a surviving mindset, you're in a surviving state of mind,
- 17:03Speaker 1: then your life is ready fire, aim right, and that's
- 17:10Speaker 1: not gonna work long term. The clutter and the noise
- 17:13Speaker 1: in your head. It's not gonna look work for long term.
- 17:15Speaker 1: So that's why I forget which book it was. It
- 17:17Speaker 1: was the Memo or from Nothing. I speak about this
- 17:20Speaker 1: specifically and try to get you go from a surviving
- 17:22Speaker 1: mindset to a thriving mindset, to a winning and a
- 17:25Speaker 1: building mindset. So I protect these things, not perfectly, but intentionally.
- 17:40Speaker 1: There is no perfect. A saint is a center that
- 17:43Speaker 1: got up. What I want you to do is the
- 17:47Speaker 1: very best you can. Burnout isn't a badge of honor.
- 17:52Speaker 1: It's a warning sign that the systems are missing. I
- 17:57Speaker 1: want you to work smarter, not just harder, even though
- 18:02Speaker 1: hustle and hard work are not to be underrated. When
- 18:07Speaker 1: I didn't have any money in my life, I had
- 18:11Speaker 1: to have hustle on hustle, creating more hustle that compounded
- 18:19Speaker 1: on itself. That's another podcast for another time. Thinking and capture.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Most people don't lack intelligence, they lack capture. I hope
- 18:31Speaker 1: you're writing this stuff down. Ideas are fragile people. They
- 18:37Speaker 1: don't arrive politely when you're sitting at a desk. They
- 18:41Speaker 1: show up while walking, while traveling between meetings in quiet
- 18:47Speaker 1: moments when you get up to the middle of the
- 18:51Speaker 1: night to go to the restroom, right when you're talking
- 18:54Speaker 1: to your kids. Just there you go. Right, So I
- 18:59Speaker 1: never trust my memory. Haven't you have this great idea
- 19:02Speaker 1: about something? You say, Oh, I'll write that down later.
- 19:05Speaker 1: If you don't write it down, it's not real. Please
- 19:07Speaker 1: remember that. Please write it down. Write that down. If
- 19:10Speaker 1: you don't write it down, it's not real. You had
- 19:12Speaker 1: some great, brilliant thought and then later on you went
- 19:16Speaker 1: to go write it down, and you're like, where did
- 19:18Speaker 1: it go? Exactly my point, it went away because it
- 19:21Speaker 1: wasn't real. You didn't write it down. It just fluid. Right,
- 19:26Speaker 1: So you never trust your memory. You trust your systems.
- 19:31Speaker 1: If I have an idea that it's worth having, it's
- 19:35Speaker 1: worth saving immediately. So I have voice notes. There's a
- 19:39Speaker 1: voice note on your phone. It's a voice note app
- 19:41Speaker 1: on your phone. Most people don't even know that. I
- 19:43Speaker 1: used to use that. I don't use that anymore, but
- 19:45Speaker 1: that's where I started written notes. I'll tell you the
- 19:49Speaker 1: tools that I used in a minute, written notes.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:51Speaker 1: For those who don't use technology, you write things down,
- 19:54Speaker 1: that's fine, or maybe if you use an iPad and iPad,
- 19:57Speaker 1: pen then do that right. Digital capture, we all know
- 20:02Speaker 1: what that means. Right, your phone, your iPad or whatever
- 20:06Speaker 1: digital tool you're using. Judgment comes later, people, just get
- 20:12Speaker 1: it written down. Editing comes later. Just get it written down.
- 20:15Speaker 1: It could be messy as head could have typos, have
- 20:17Speaker 1: spelling errors. It doesn't matter. Just you're talking to you.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Just get it written down, all right. Respect the idea first, right.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Entire books, speeches, and initiatives have started this way. Nation building,
- 20:35Speaker 1: business building, empire building have started this way with the
- 20:40Speaker 1: power of a powerful idea that's been written down and
- 20:45Speaker 1: then and later on refined and structured. The JGB arch
- 20:53Speaker 1: tools inside a system. Once you have a framework, you
- 20:57Speaker 1: now need tools. Right, tools only work inside architecture. I
- 21:04Speaker 1: think of my tools as an arc. Every piece has
- 21:07Speaker 1: a role. Remove one and the structure weakens. So let
- 21:13Speaker 1: me tell you about what just happened in the midst
- 21:15Speaker 1: of this podcast taping to give you a sense of
- 21:17Speaker 1: my tools. I don't use different kinds of manufact if
- 21:21Speaker 1: you like if you like PCs, that's great, then use PCs.
- 21:25Speaker 1: I use Apple products. They don't glitch, they don't they
- 21:30Speaker 1: don't crash. I used to got PTSD from computers crashing
- 21:35Speaker 1: on me back in the day. You right, be all
- 21:38Speaker 1: into something, crashes and it goes away. And I'm sure
- 21:40Speaker 1: that doesn't happen anymore. I'm sure there's gotten much more
- 21:43Speaker 1: efficient and technologically, you know, elegant. But I just like
- 21:47Speaker 1: Apple products myself, and I'm not you know, I have
- 21:49Speaker 1: no business relationship with Apple. I'm just telling you how
- 21:51Speaker 1: what I do and what happened in the middle of
- 21:54Speaker 1: this taping. Is my primary device that I was using
- 22:01Speaker 1: for my recording. I didn't have it hooked up to
- 22:05Speaker 1: a power unit, and I had been messing around for
- 22:10Speaker 1: longer than I expected. Well, the power died. That's okay.
- 22:14Speaker 1: My iPad which was my secondary unit, and I have
- 22:16Speaker 1: a third, actually four pieces of tech here in front
- 22:21Speaker 1: of me. It's all cloud based, right, It's all on
- 22:24Speaker 1: a cloud system. It's all real time sync. So in
- 22:28Speaker 1: real time, I just switched without you even knowing. I'm
- 22:30Speaker 1: letting you know, without you even knowing, I switched to
- 22:32Speaker 1: my iPad pro, which and I get. I get. Make
- 22:35Speaker 1: sure you get the best tech with the highest level
- 22:40Speaker 1: of what I can afford it now can't afford it
- 22:43Speaker 1: back in the day, but maybe you could afford this
- 22:45Speaker 1: if you weren't, you know, out of the mall or
- 22:48Speaker 1: partying or whatever. Right, what do you spend your money?
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm not judging you, just saying this is where I
- 22:54Speaker 1: decided to invest my cash is in technology and systems
- 23:00Speaker 1: to run my life. Because I do the work of
- 23:02Speaker 1: several people through technology. I get the work done of
- 23:07Speaker 1: several people because I leverage the power of technology. Okay,
- 23:11Speaker 1: back to this, the jage b arc. So I think
- 23:13Speaker 1: of my tools as an arc. Every piece has a role.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Remove one in the structure weakends right, because this is
- 23:19Speaker 1: the jage b arc. Again, I'm gonna put these graphs
- 23:22Speaker 1: out so you can capture them and use them yourself.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Some tools help me capture ideas. Some tools help me plan,
- 23:31Speaker 1: some help me execute, Some help me help my teams communicate.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Some help manage scale and relationships. The names of the
- 23:42Speaker 1: tools matter less than their function. Now that said, let
- 23:46Speaker 1: me tell you the tools. Some of the tools I
- 23:49Speaker 1: use in order to capture ideas. And I cannot underscore
- 23:55Speaker 1: this enough. To capture an idea about a business, a function,
- 23:58Speaker 1: a project, your kid's birthday party, everything from personal to
- 24:03Speaker 1: a wedding, anniversary to a business concept to a joint venture,
- 24:07Speaker 1: idea to a new patent, a product you want, a
- 24:09Speaker 1: patent to a business trip, to client acquisition for your
- 24:18Speaker 1: new venture, the house rehab, whatever it is you want
- 24:21Speaker 1: to do. I initially would capture that in what was
- 24:24Speaker 1: called a mind map. It's called mind mapping software. Write
- 24:28Speaker 1: that down mind mapping software. Find the one that works
- 24:32Speaker 1: for you, and I use mind map software used to
- 24:37Speaker 1: And now I've sort of idly enough don't even need
- 24:41Speaker 1: that anymore because I've gotten most of my idea's pretty
- 24:43Speaker 1: refined now. But I used to. I mean, I had
- 24:47Speaker 1: fifty or sixty different mind maps going. But capturing your ideas, yes,
- 24:52Speaker 1: you can do it in a note car. You can
- 24:53Speaker 1: do it, you know, a linear writing, but your brain
- 24:58Speaker 1: is sees a pick. Sure again, the Bible says, where
- 25:01Speaker 1: there's no vision, that people pairish, right, so you capture
- 25:03Speaker 1: that vision, that idea. I deal with a mind map.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So then I have other tools that help help me
- 25:10Speaker 1: with a plan. Well, of course, uh you know, artificial
- 25:14Speaker 1: intelligence and writing tools like Microsoft and uh gee, I'm
- 25:23Speaker 1: doing this off the top of my head. Ever, note
- 25:26Speaker 1: I used to use every note to both capture ideas
- 25:29Speaker 1: and write out my plan. But there's you know, whatever
- 25:32Speaker 1: business tool works for you best. That's typically a collection
- 25:35Speaker 1: of tools, is uh is what I use to write
- 25:39Speaker 1: my plans. I certainly use artificial intelligence helped with my research.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Used to be the Internet. Before that it was a
- 25:46Speaker 1: dictionary and you know, going to the library things. So
- 25:49Speaker 1: technology really has helped you to be smarter. Then I
- 25:52Speaker 1: have to help me execute. I used to use airtable,
- 25:56Speaker 1: I used to use a bunch of stuff. I currently
- 25:59Speaker 1: my base station, my command center. I have everything, my
- 26:03Speaker 1: entire life sitting in Trello, right so, and I managed
- 26:07Speaker 1: my professional life, my personal life, my passions, my priorities,
- 26:12Speaker 1: my projects. I managed everything in a technolog piece of
- 26:16Speaker 1: technology called Trello, which is encrypted as it has you know,
- 26:21Speaker 1: multiple levels of security so to worry about that people
- 26:24Speaker 1: getting into your stuff. It's password protected times too, and
- 26:29Speaker 1: it's and it's visual, but it's also a technical's project
- 26:33Speaker 1: management essentially, and it's really quite elegant. And I've not
- 26:38Speaker 1: found this capacity yet and I've not found its outer
- 26:40Speaker 1: limits yet, which is which is really cool. And I
- 26:43Speaker 1: definitely pushed the push the envelope. And I may may
- 26:47Speaker 1: share a photo screenshot of some of my TrailO trailer boards.
- 26:50Speaker 1: But if you just just search for Trello, you'll get
- 26:55Speaker 1: the you'll get the picture of go to YouTube and
- 26:57Speaker 1: ask to do a tutorial video on what Trello is.
- 27:01Speaker 1: It'll make your life so much easier, personal again and professional.
- 27:05Speaker 1: I use these tools in all parts of my life.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Then I also have a subtool for Trello that uh,
- 27:11Speaker 1: that's a knowledge tool that is called Obsidian, and Obsidian
- 27:16Speaker 1: is for crazy people like me. But I have Obsidian notes,
- 27:19Speaker 1: which I use markedowns. You can research what a markedown is,
- 27:23Speaker 1: but I use Obsidian notes to capture knowledge and data
- 27:26Speaker 1: as it comes to me. I just throw it in there.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I throw it in there, and I throw and I
- 27:29Speaker 1: link it right. I linked. You know, I met somebody.
- 27:32Speaker 1: They live in Atlanta. I marked that they marked Atlanta's
- 27:35Speaker 1: a marked down. So everybody that lives in Atlanta that
- 27:38Speaker 1: I know, when I go to Atlanta, it tells me
- 27:40Speaker 1: everybody that lives in Atlanta, they own a restaurant. It
- 27:44Speaker 1: tells me everybody that I know that owns a restaurant.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Because I put that as a marked down, they're an architect.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Later on I can say what architects do I know
- 27:51Speaker 1: who live in Atlanta, it will tell me all of
- 27:53Speaker 1: those It's really quite fascinating. It's called obsidian, but it
- 27:56Speaker 1: it's you know, it's a little out there. You got
- 27:58Speaker 1: to be somebody who's a tech obsessed person like me
- 28:02Speaker 1: to really want to get in that. So don't spend
- 28:05Speaker 1: a lot of time of city in but you should
- 28:06Speaker 1: know that that's what a lot of very successful people use.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Tech geniuses, tech bros, tech leaders, business leaders, CEOs, billionaires, multimillionaires,
- 28:16Speaker 1: CEOs of fortune, public companies. They use these tools, right,
- 28:20Speaker 1: And if you see my obsidian map, it is it
- 28:24Speaker 1: looks like it looks like it looks like a Cosmo, right,
- 28:29Speaker 1: it's all it's all these little dots from all these
- 28:32Speaker 1: little context of relationships. Because when I grew up, I
- 28:35Speaker 1: didn't have financial capital, so I had to use relationship capital,
- 28:38Speaker 1: and so my relationships were my capital. And so then
- 28:41Speaker 1: I had to then value that capital and how to
- 28:44Speaker 1: keep up with them and what are they doing? And
- 28:46Speaker 1: they've never got a new piece information on them. I
- 28:48Speaker 1: put it in this database. And then you have some
- 28:53Speaker 1: tools you use to communicate, right, And I use Slack
- 28:56Speaker 1: to communicate. Slack it's like text messaging in a very
- 29:00Speaker 1: narrow confine about a specific topic with a specific group
- 29:04Speaker 1: of people. It's encrypted between security protected, it's password protected.
- 29:09Speaker 1: It you know your your text messages are not secure.
- 29:14Speaker 1: They're just not. And you also, don't you forget where
- 29:17Speaker 1: you which text stream? Who you text? Where's that information
- 29:20Speaker 1: that you texted or somebody texted you? Where is it?
- 29:23Speaker 1: You forget again? Like an electronic sticky note, you get
- 29:26Speaker 1: lost in all of these text messages. This would slack.
- 29:30Speaker 1: You don't get lost. But slack is also temporary. So
- 29:34Speaker 1: now you have a stream of information that you're communicating
- 29:37Speaker 1: with Europe. In my case, I call my Special Forces Team,
- 29:40Speaker 1: my senior team leaders, the twenty people I rely on
- 29:43Speaker 1: for most things in my life. But that's that stream
- 29:48Speaker 1: will be pushed out by new information in that stream.
- 29:51Speaker 1: So if something that's important, I translate something in Slack,
- 29:54Speaker 1: I convert that into a Trello card, and Trello card
- 29:58Speaker 1: into a Trello board, and a Trailler board manages the
- 30:01Speaker 1: project or part of my life. Everything has a place.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I told you that earlier, and then that Trello board
- 30:08Speaker 1: relates to a project space, and that project space it
- 30:13Speaker 1: relates to is probably a company or companies in my life,
- 30:17Speaker 1: or groups of activity, and that group of activity ties
- 30:21Speaker 1: into my strategy, my mission, my vision. See what I'm saying,
- 30:25Speaker 1: See how this works together. Some tools help me manage
- 30:28Speaker 1: scale and relationships. And I've talked about that already. The
- 30:32Speaker 1: names of the tools again matter less than their functions.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Here's the key. Lesson the tools change the architecture, doesn't.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I don't chase apps. I designed systems. I was on
- 30:48Speaker 1: retreat recently in Mali, and I spent half my time there,
- 30:53Speaker 1: in indition to enjoying myself, upgrading into redesigning my system
- 30:57Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six because I've grown so much that
- 31:00Speaker 1: I've outgrown the system I had in January of twenty
- 31:03Speaker 1: twenty five. And so in order to move fast, because
- 31:06Speaker 1: you get to when I was struggling, money was more
- 31:09Speaker 1: important than time, So I would waste time in order
- 31:12Speaker 1: to try to make money. That hustle was real. But
- 31:15Speaker 1: please believe me, when you as you become more successful,
- 31:18Speaker 1: please hear me saying this, Your time becomes more valuable
- 31:21Speaker 1: than your money. You can waste my money for a minute,
- 31:26Speaker 1: you cannot waste my time at all. I'm ruthless about
- 31:30Speaker 1: my time. Everything I'm telling you now is a time
- 31:33Speaker 1: wasting hack. It is a way to get back your
- 31:36Speaker 1: time to create more time. Oh this is so powerful,
- 31:40Speaker 1: but I don't have time to stick to anyone topic
- 31:43Speaker 1: because I want to get through all this in one podcast.
- 31:45Speaker 1: If you like this, let me know, and I'm happy
- 31:47Speaker 1: to take any one of these topics and go deeper.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Your brain is for thinking, not storage. Please write that down.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Your brain is for thinking, not storage. I'll go one
- 31:59Speaker 1: step further. You're thinking your brain is by thinking about
- 32:01Speaker 1: where you want to go. Don't let your brain overtake
- 32:04Speaker 1: your life. My brain don't control anything that I do.
- 32:07Speaker 1: I'm an intuitive leader. Women's intuition are stronger than anything
- 32:11Speaker 1: I know. Men have it to the ego, the bravado.
- 32:15Speaker 1: The lack of comfort with our emotions sometimes keep us
- 32:17Speaker 1: from listening to our intuition. But God's to me, that's
- 32:20Speaker 1: God speaking to you and through you. We're not human
- 32:23Speaker 1: beings having a spiritual experience. Where spiritual beings having a
- 32:26Speaker 1: human experience, energy matters. So when I get an intuitive reading,
- 32:31Speaker 1: not an emotional reading, not an anger read, not an
- 32:33Speaker 1: ego read. When I get an intuitive read about something,
- 32:35Speaker 1: when I know what I know about somebody or something.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I feel it in my gut. They say someone will
- 32:41Speaker 1: say that, right, and now I know I want to
- 32:43Speaker 1: do I'm a vision for something. Right. I've done my research,
- 32:46Speaker 1: I've created a plan, I've water tested, I've pressure tested
- 32:50Speaker 1: to make sure that the plan is real. By the
- 32:51Speaker 1: time an entrepreneur actually moves on something, the risk is
- 32:54Speaker 1: mostly go to rung out of it. By the way
- 32:56Speaker 1: through the process, I'm telling you, everybody has their own
- 32:58Speaker 1: way of doing it. This is my way of doing it,
- 33:01Speaker 1: and so by the time you execute on it, you
- 33:06Speaker 1: know you just want to move efficiently and quickly. Right, Well,
- 33:10Speaker 1: I'm moving so fast now on things that I have built.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I'm trying to institutionalize everything now, and things are coming
- 33:15Speaker 1: at me hot and heavy. I don't have time to
- 33:17Speaker 1: be sitting around and messing around with time and messing
- 33:19Speaker 1: around with analysis or screwing. So I spend time on
- 33:22Speaker 1: my retreat, on calorifacation. I retreat. It's intentional retreat, to
- 33:28Speaker 1: go away so I can think, so I can slow
- 33:30Speaker 1: the world down, reimagine everything. Go through this process of
- 33:34Speaker 1: reimagination reassessment very slowly. Go from my left side of
- 33:37Speaker 1: my brain. Analytic, go to the right side of my brain,
- 33:39Speaker 1: creative and intuitive and contextual. I come up with an
- 33:43Speaker 1: upgraded software from my operating system. I take time to
- 33:47Speaker 1: develop it so that when I get back into the game,
- 33:50Speaker 1: I'm relaxed and I'm just executing boom boom bang bang,
- 33:54Speaker 1: I'm just moving grooving. Yes, no, that that go, don't
- 33:58Speaker 1: do that? No right, It's very clean, it's very elegant.
- 34:02Speaker 1: It gives me more time for my family, more time
- 34:04Speaker 1: for my passions. That's how I'm able to do so much.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Your brain is for thinking, not for storage. Once tasks
- 34:11Speaker 1: leave your head and into a system, your mind relaxes,
- 34:15Speaker 1: and a relaxed mine thinks better. So my intuition is
- 34:19Speaker 1: from a decision making Actually, my brain is a GPS
- 34:22Speaker 1: device to tell me how to get to where my
- 34:25Speaker 1: intuition has told me I'm going.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Now.
- 34:27Speaker 1: That is a drop to my and a podcast all
- 34:30Speaker 1: by itself. But I don't want to get distracted from
- 34:33Speaker 1: giving you the tools of my success. Execution and delegation.
- 34:39Speaker 1: If you do everything yourself, you're not in control. You're trapped.
- 34:45Speaker 1: I organize execution around one question, what only I can
- 34:49Speaker 1: do and what should never be done by me again.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I'm telling you this is so good. I organize myself
- 34:59Speaker 1: around this question what only I can do? What's those
- 35:04Speaker 1: things are that thing that only I can do and
- 35:07Speaker 1: what should never be done by me? Ever? Again, anything
- 35:13Speaker 1: repeatable gets documented, anything scalable gets delegated. This isn't about ego.
- 35:20Speaker 1: It's about sustainability. It's about building. It's about building something
- 35:25Speaker 1: that outlives you and can grow underneath you. Communication and boundaries.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Communication overload is where leaders burn out. Email texts, direct
- 35:37Speaker 1: messages DMS, they call them. I don't do dms. I
- 35:40Speaker 1: tell people, don't DM me, You'll get your heart broken.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I just don't bother with it again. I walk through life.
- 35:47Speaker 1: I walk through life consciously oblivious of most things around me,
- 35:50Speaker 1: because most things just don't matter, at least not to me.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I decide what matters, and I focus on those things.
- 35:55Speaker 1: And I decided direct messages don't matter, that they don't
- 35:58Speaker 1: matter that most people listening to this podcast, I just
- 36:00Speaker 1: don't do them. I don't manage by text message. I
- 36:04Speaker 1: don't project manage with my email. Right, these are just
- 36:07Speaker 1: efficiency tools to get from you know. I decide the
- 36:10Speaker 1: way I'm going to communicate, and then it's a stream
- 36:12Speaker 1: of communication in this portal with the folks that I
- 36:16Speaker 1: have already predecided that I want to communicate with in
- 36:20Speaker 1: that way. Now somebody else picks up my direct messages.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I just don't myself, but I'm in the comments. By
- 36:27Speaker 1: the way, if you're an any social media platform and
- 36:29Speaker 1: you see a response from me, that's me so uh
- 36:34Speaker 1: just leaders get burned out emails, text messages, DM, slack, WhatsApp, uh,
- 36:42Speaker 1: which is another form of communication, What's app and all
- 36:44Speaker 1: kinds of other apps. Accessibility without boundaries is chaos. I
- 36:50Speaker 1: structure communication. So what matters. What matters to me rises,
- 36:57Speaker 1: noise falls away. Not to be distant, but to stay effective.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Boundaries aren't arrogance, their survival. Home mode versus travel mode.
- 37:16Speaker 1: My life runs in two modes, home mode and travel mode.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Trying to live the same way in both places is
- 37:24Speaker 1: a mistake. There are things that cross over, and they're consistent,
- 37:29Speaker 1: but the flow is different. Home mode allows depth, Trouble
- 37:36Speaker 1: mode demands simplicity so that you can flow. What stay
- 37:41Speaker 1: is constant sleep, discipline, idea, capture in the day, reflection,
- 37:49Speaker 1: and a little fun. I do have fun every day.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I binge watch on YouTube or whatever, they read a book,
- 37:55Speaker 1: I'll get them if I'm here at the house. Here's
- 37:57Speaker 1: a difference between home mode and travel mode. I have
- 37:59Speaker 1: a race simulator at the house. I'm a full competitive
- 38:01Speaker 1: all a racing license, and I'll give them the racing simulator.
- 38:05Speaker 1: And I just absolutely that just renews me. I'll I'll
- 38:09Speaker 1: go and watch a movie. I can do that on
- 38:11Speaker 1: the road. I just got to anyway, never mind give
- 38:18Speaker 1: you all in my world. But anyway, I have passions,
- 38:21Speaker 1: and I find a way to take some of those
- 38:23Speaker 1: passions with me. I have portable versions of my life
- 38:27Speaker 1: that go with me when I travel. For trips are
- 38:30Speaker 1: more than one day, and there's certain things I can
- 38:32Speaker 1: only do at home. Flexibility within structure is the real discipline.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Flexibility within structure is the real discipline. Daily habits that matter.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I don't have a perfect morning routine. Leaders who say that,
- 38:49Speaker 1: I mean, God bless them, they mostly have engineer's brains.
- 38:53Speaker 1: But my life is dynamic, and I give myself the
- 38:56Speaker 1: flexibility for it. I think that actually all money is
- 38:59Speaker 1: his freedom. So I've got enough money to have the
- 39:01Speaker 1: freedom to do as I like it with how I'm
- 39:04Speaker 1: allocating my time. But I do have a morning orientation. Okay,
- 39:09Speaker 1: I ask what matters today? What would make today successful?
- 39:16Speaker 1: What do I need to avoid sometimes? Who do I
- 39:20Speaker 1: need to avoid at night? Actually, by the way, I
- 39:23Speaker 1: can avoid somebody right in front of me. Just to
- 39:25Speaker 1: be clear, I don't have to physically avoid somebody because
- 39:27Speaker 1: that takes too much energy. I literally can I mean
- 39:29Speaker 1: somebody unless I decide you're visible, You're invisible? All right,
- 39:32Speaker 1: We'll put it this way. Most people are visible until
- 39:34Speaker 1: they make themselves invisible by tearing their rear in and
- 39:37Speaker 1: acting a full So again I walk through life constantly,
- 39:41Speaker 1: abilities and most things around me because it just doesn't matter.
- 39:44Speaker 1: And I just don't let bat I don't let the
- 39:45Speaker 1: people irritate me to argue with the food whos there
- 39:47Speaker 1: are too over mess not in it. At night, I
- 39:50Speaker 1: reverse my mode. So again I ask what matters today?
- 39:53Speaker 1: What would make today successful? What do I need to avoid?
- 39:58Speaker 1: At night? I reverse it? What did I learn? What worked?
- 40:03Speaker 1: You know? What success is, what wins that I have today,
- 40:06Speaker 1: what needs adjusting, and then of course planning for tomorrow.
- 40:10Speaker 1: That's how you stay aligned over decades, not days. And
- 40:13Speaker 1: I use my tools and I have a command center
- 40:18Speaker 1: TrailO board, by the way, that where everything flows up
- 40:21Speaker 1: to me in this command center. And then that command center,
- 40:25Speaker 1: there's no to do's, there's no there's no there's no directives.
- 40:28Speaker 1: This is this is a visualization of my life at
- 40:31Speaker 1: the vision level. Then below that, I have a CEO
- 40:34Speaker 1: dashboard that's where my teams and I interact. And yes
- 40:37Speaker 1: there's some you know, ex there's execution stuff in there,
- 40:40Speaker 1: but that's them executing, mostly not me. And then below
- 40:46Speaker 1: that is you know, like operating companies and operating projects,
- 40:51Speaker 1: and there's mostly other folks again delegation doing that stuff,
- 40:53Speaker 1: not me. But I am certainly all in it, all
- 40:56Speaker 1: over them about whether they're hitting their deadlines and whether
- 40:58Speaker 1: it's it's it's speaking to the vision starting to get it,
- 41:02Speaker 1: by the way, and everything started with me when this
- 41:04Speaker 1: old things started. I forigned employees right now. But when
- 41:06Speaker 1: this thing started, this was just me. It was just me,
- 41:09Speaker 1: and I was homeless and I had nothing. So don't
- 41:13Speaker 1: think this is like some trust fun guy giving you
- 41:16Speaker 1: a vision with a lot of resources. I started with
- 41:19Speaker 1: absolutely nothing. Anybody knows my story. I had extremely humble beginnings.
- 41:23Speaker 1: I'm telling you that the apps, the tools, the computers.
- 41:27Speaker 1: I mean, I used to have a computer that literally
- 41:29Speaker 1: it was like fifty pounds. I carried around with me,
- 41:33Speaker 1: a compact computer. I used to have a radio check computer.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Used to have a mobile phone. It was like a brick,
- 41:37Speaker 1: literally a brick. It cost forty five cents a minute,
- 41:41Speaker 1: you know. So now we have the iPhone and the
- 41:43Speaker 1: tools are elegant, right, But I mean, I've always been
- 41:47Speaker 1: a bit of a geek. I've always been a techie.
- 41:49Speaker 1: The tools have changed, but I haven't. And this strategy
- 41:54Speaker 1: I'm telling you about has paid off. And all the
- 41:56Speaker 1: folks who wanted me to go party with them now
- 41:58Speaker 1: I want to work for me, all right. The meta
- 42:00Speaker 1: lesson this isn't about productivity. It's about freedom, freedom from clutter,
- 42:07Speaker 1: mental clutter, constant reactivity, emotional overload, being stressed the heck out,
- 42:16Speaker 1: which leads to depression. I think also, by the way,
- 42:18Speaker 1: systems don't cage you. They free you. And here's the
- 42:23Speaker 1: most important thing. These systems are learnable. You don't need
- 42:28Speaker 1: my life, you need your version of structure. You may
- 42:34Speaker 1: not like the tools that I use, I don't care
- 42:36Speaker 1: find the ones you do like. That's why I didn't
- 42:39Speaker 1: tell you which mind mapping software. Just find the one
- 42:41Speaker 1: that speaks to you that you like visually. But mind
- 42:44Speaker 1: mapping software is a big get. That's a hack. A
- 42:50Speaker 1: cheat sheet from this podcast. Everything should have a place
- 42:54Speaker 1: to a document your vision. Think about a Pinterest board
- 42:57Speaker 1: that's like seriously interactive with you, like a dream board
- 43:02Speaker 1: that is operational, and then you're getting close to what
- 43:05Speaker 1: mind mapping is, literally mapp being your mind. I want
- 43:08Speaker 1: you to start small. Capture one idea. Don't overwhelm yourself.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Remove one friction point from your life. Protect one block
- 43:16Speaker 1: of energy. Over time, it compounds, it builds on itself.
- 43:23Speaker 1: So that's how I actually run my life. And yes
- 43:29Speaker 1: I have a workout routine. I didn't mention that. But
- 43:32Speaker 1: when I get up in the morning, I meditate and
- 43:34Speaker 1: I reflect. If I'm in a hotel, I do a
- 43:38Speaker 1: ten minute fifteen minute workout. Push ups, twenty push ups,
- 43:43Speaker 1: twenty setups, squats, stretches. Stretches come first. If I have
- 43:51Speaker 1: a little bit of time, I go down to the
- 43:53Speaker 1: gym and get on the peloton machine and cycle. I
- 44:00Speaker 1: have a red light machine at the house, so when
- 44:05Speaker 1: I finish working out, I'll get on the red light machine.
- 44:07Speaker 1: If you never heard of red light therapy, look into that.
- 44:10Speaker 1: My wife Shaker as a wellness expert. I'm well, she's
- 44:14Speaker 1: health and she's taught me so much. One of the
- 44:18Speaker 1: things that's been a game changer is red light therapy.
- 44:22Speaker 1: And we have a full body red light machine. I
- 44:24Speaker 1: spend ten minutes front and back three times a week,
- 44:28Speaker 1: and I don't have pain in my body anywhere, and
- 44:30Speaker 1: I move all the time. And I have a red
- 44:33Speaker 1: light machine I travel with. I have tools I travel
- 44:36Speaker 1: with and maybe if you want me to, I'll do.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I'll do a special video of me on the road
- 44:42Speaker 1: because that is a that is a science all by itself.
- 44:44Speaker 1: And I do not I do not wait till I
- 44:47Speaker 1: get home for my life. I take my life elegantly
- 44:50Speaker 1: with me wherever I go. So if you see me
- 44:52Speaker 1: on the road, know that I'm flowing and I'm going
- 44:55Speaker 1: and I'm living and I've got a routine system and
- 44:58Speaker 1: a structure to make that'll work. So yes, I work
- 45:02Speaker 1: out at home in the gym. Red light My racing
- 45:08Speaker 1: simulator is a version of working out. Also, I incorporate
- 45:11Speaker 1: that because you motorsports is like the one of the
- 45:15Speaker 1: top five most strenuous sports in the world. You use
- 45:17Speaker 1: every muscle in your body and you cannot multitask. You've
- 45:20Speaker 1: got to focus. So I have a raising simulator acrosstreet,
- 45:23Speaker 1: from the from the gym, here at the house, and again.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yet these are, you know, options that I have now.
- 45:29Speaker 1: But remember keep in mind I started where you were
- 45:32Speaker 1: where you are right now. No matter where you are
- 45:35Speaker 1: in your trajectory, I've been there right But with enough
- 45:38Speaker 1: discipline and enough structure and enough consistency, you just outrun
- 45:41Speaker 1: your problems. You outrun failure. You outrun you outrun You know,
- 45:47Speaker 1: folks who are lazy, you know, you're just putting the
- 45:49Speaker 1: work in. There's a book called Outliers ten thousand and
- 45:52Speaker 1: basically says, if you put ten thousand hours into anything,
- 45:54Speaker 1: you'll be the equivalent of an NBA player in your field.
- 45:58Speaker 1: You will be the best of the best. Just ten
- 46:00Speaker 1: thousand hours makes you an outlier. And I agree with that.
- 46:05Speaker 1: So that's how I actually run my life, not perfectly,
- 46:08Speaker 1: not rigidly, but intentionally. In this episode helped you think
- 46:13Speaker 1: differently about success. Then do one thing today for yourself,
- 46:18Speaker 1: not for me, for yourself. Build one system that supports
- 46:22Speaker 1: the life you want, because success isn't mysterious people, it's designed.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I use every note, I use Trello, I use Slack,
- 46:35Speaker 1: I use Obsidian, I use plot notes, which is artificial intelligence.
- 46:44Speaker 1: I use chat GPT fifty times a day. Coach chair
- 46:47Speaker 1: of the AI at this council with Sam Martman, who
- 46:49Speaker 1: is the CEO of Chat GPT. I use other AI
- 46:54Speaker 1: platforms to just to have different different disciplines. An opera shoal.
- 47:01Speaker 1: We'll be launching Hope AI soon. Will we launched it.
- 47:03Speaker 1: We've announced that we be launching it soon so that
- 47:05Speaker 1: it'll be a tool that you can help you in
- 47:07Speaker 1: addition to financial literacy, So make sure you go to
- 47:08Speaker 1: the opera show for both in the future. Van Jones
- 47:11Speaker 1: is my new coach here on that. So, yeah, these
- 47:14Speaker 1: are some of the my core tools and mind mapping
- 47:17Speaker 1: mind my Steward is one of my uh my mind
- 47:22Speaker 1: mapping software, but that I used a couple there. Yeah,
- 47:27Speaker 1: these are my core too. Notice I notice I didn't
- 47:29Speaker 1: mention financial tools or spreadsheets or anything like that, like
- 47:32Speaker 1: you know that's tactical and they used to. I used
- 47:36Speaker 1: to live in spreadsheets, you know, I lived in numbers
- 47:38Speaker 1: or excel back when I had to. But again I
- 47:41Speaker 1: moved from working increasingly working in the business to working
- 47:44Speaker 1: on the business, which is where you want to graduate to.
- 47:48Speaker 1: But you can't get to one without doing the other.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Because the only place that success comes before the word
- 47:52Speaker 1: work is in the dictionary, because it's alphabetical everything else,
- 47:55Speaker 1: every other kind of success or every kind of work.
- 47:57Speaker 1: It's just hard. You got to do it and there's
- 48:00Speaker 1: no shortcuts. If it's a free lunch, it's probably stale.
- 48:04Speaker 1: So build one system that supports the life you want.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Because success is a mysterious right. It's designed. I want
- 48:10Speaker 1: you to tell me, give me some feedback of how
- 48:13Speaker 1: you felt about this. This is John O'Brien and Money
- 48:16Speaker 1: and Wealth podcast, And I want you to go to
- 48:21Speaker 1: Operation Hope and ask them for a scholarship a program
- 48:24Speaker 1: scholarship for financial coaching and counseling. I want you to
- 48:27Speaker 1: tell your friends about this podcast. I want you to
- 48:29Speaker 1: take this episode and use it as a talk point
- 48:33Speaker 1: amongst your group of friends and let me know what
- 48:36Speaker 1: they think about it. What if you get twenty percent?
- 48:39Speaker 1: If you can use twenty percent of what I said,
- 48:43Speaker 1: it can be a game changer for your life. And yes,
- 48:47Speaker 1: you should not spend every dollar that you make. You
- 48:49Speaker 1: should take ten cents as a habit. This is part
- 48:51Speaker 1: of systems. Ten cents of whatever you make and put
- 48:54Speaker 1: it in a savings account, put in the four oh
- 48:56Speaker 1: one k thens matched by your employer, or put it
- 48:59Speaker 1: in a stock account, or invest it in something. But
- 49:03Speaker 1: don't you know, don't just live to pay your bills.
- 49:06Speaker 1: If you're making If you make a dollar, put ten
- 49:08Speaker 1: cents aside. You're not going to miss the ten cents.
- 49:11Speaker 1: If you make one thousand dollars, put one hundred dollars aside.
- 49:14Speaker 1: You probably waste that without even knowing it. And if
- 49:16Speaker 1: you can't put one hundred dollars a side, try putting
- 49:18Speaker 1: twenty five dollars a side or fifty dollars a side,
- 49:20Speaker 1: and it's wramp it up. Increase it little by little
- 49:22Speaker 1: over time. Right, So there's a system for everything, and
- 49:28Speaker 1: you want everything to fit in your life. In my
- 49:29Speaker 1: life this year, everything has a place. By the way,
- 49:33Speaker 1: why do wealthy people have big houses They call them mansions? Right,
- 49:37Speaker 1: we have a big house on forty acres. It's not
- 49:41Speaker 1: for profiling, it's not for flossing. It's for systems. As
- 49:45Speaker 1: your life gets bigger, as your vision gets bigger, as
- 49:48Speaker 1: your success gets bigger, as your travels get broader, as
- 49:50Speaker 1: you move from traveling down the street to across the county,
- 49:53Speaker 1: to cross the state, across the country to other countries,
- 49:57Speaker 1: then doing that all the time. You collect things, if
- 50:00Speaker 1: you collect people, you collect friends, you collect experiences, and
- 50:04Speaker 1: you will your life expands to meet the level of
- 50:08Speaker 1: exposure you have in your life, and you will find
- 50:11Speaker 1: that you need places for things that you never thought
- 50:13Speaker 1: you had needed a place for at all. I mean,
- 50:16Speaker 1: it just wasn't even a thought before. I have a
- 50:19Speaker 1: gift closet. For God's sake, Well, who would need a
- 50:21Speaker 1: gift closet? I mean I never thought I wanted a closet,
- 50:24Speaker 1: But now I you know, a regular part of my
- 50:27Speaker 1: life is both giving gifts to business associates and friends
- 50:31Speaker 1: and colleagues and family, and I receive gifts and uh
- 50:35Speaker 1: there and there's an intake section where every package has
- 50:38Speaker 1: to be recorded because there are security issues. There's all
- 50:43Speaker 1: kinds of stuff that happens when your life expands that
- 50:46Speaker 1: you're just not thinking about. I have a technology closet.
- 50:51Speaker 1: I never thought i'd have one of those. I mean,
- 50:53Speaker 1: if everything from it's this, from the simple things to
- 50:55Speaker 1: the big things. But but when you're moving efficiently, if
- 51:00Speaker 1: you're wasting time trying to find something, you're an unorganized mind.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Waste time, and you've got to not abuse yourself by
- 51:08Speaker 1: wasting your own time. So I'm going to introduce these
- 51:14Speaker 1: these visuals in the social media platform, so you can
- 51:20Speaker 1: download them from there or my Brian journal, and I'll
- 51:23Speaker 1: see you on the road to success. I may even
- 51:25Speaker 1: see you on the roads. I run into a lot
- 51:26Speaker 1: of people literally on the road. We'll listen to the podcast.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Thanks for making it one of the top twenty five
- 51:31Speaker 1: podcasts for entrepreneurship on Apple last year in America and
- 51:35Speaker 1: top one hundred for business last year in America, in
- 51:38Speaker 1: top two fifty for on every content in the world
- 51:42Speaker 1: for business and entrepreneurship. Let's go change the world and
- 51:45Speaker 1: go of course register that NAACP image reward vote if
- 51:50Speaker 1: you support peace of Light, irregardless, I support you. I'm
- 51:54Speaker 1: not mad at you.
- 51:54Speaker 2: If you vote from Michelle Obama, by the way, I
- 51:56Speaker 2: sort of would vote to give to myself or sometimes
- 51:59Speaker 2: all right, peace and light, money and wealth with John
- 52:03Speaker 2: O'Brien is a production of the Black Effect Podcast Network.
