- 0:01Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on, and gentle show. Welcome to the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Ball Alert Show podcast available everywhere you get your podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I go by the name for our Simmons. I have
- 0:18Speaker 1: your best tie, so you know, b take special guests
- 0:21Speaker 1: in the building. I love his cheese steaks. How's it going,
- 0:23Speaker 1: Mr Derek, how's it going, sir? What's up? Bro? Thanks
- 0:26Speaker 1: for having me? Thank you for coming. Mr Derrick Hayes
- 0:30Speaker 1: from West Philly, Philly? And how is the meat so
- 0:36Speaker 1: damn juicy? It's just like it's just juicy as hell.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I think it's my grandfather, to be honest. Like my grandfather,
- 0:43Speaker 1: he uh, he gave me all my skills, not even
- 0:45Speaker 1: knowing because when I was coming up, if I ain't
- 0:47Speaker 1: go to church with him on Sundays, I had to
- 0:48Speaker 1: finish the Sunday's dinner, you know what I'm saying. So
- 0:52Speaker 1: along the way, when I came to Atlanta, when I
- 0:55Speaker 1: wanted to go open my first business, which was Days
- 0:57Speaker 1: Philly Ward, I aced I I was just selling Italian
- 0:58Speaker 1: nice we call the warder. I nobody knew what it was.
- 1:01Speaker 1: So when I'm making the cheese steaks and I hired
- 1:03Speaker 1: to cook, it wasn't coming out the way I wanted to.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It wasn't authentic. And my grandfather, you know, he went
- 1:08Speaker 1: back to the roots and you know what I'm saying,
- 1:09Speaker 1: gave me the water oil mixed ratio. So that's what
- 1:13Speaker 1: helped out the stake to not dry out. I mean,
- 1:15Speaker 1: it never missed, like Mrs literally, no matter what day,
- 1:19Speaker 1: what time. I think it's at its best right now too,
- 1:22Speaker 1: because my company right now, we're about to scale a
- 1:24Speaker 1: whole lot of locations and I got the right people
- 1:27Speaker 1: right now following the right s op manual. So it's
- 1:30Speaker 1: it's like a real system to really doing the same
- 1:33Speaker 1: way every single time. So right now, man, I'm just
- 1:36Speaker 1: happy about all that because all the years of me
- 1:38Speaker 1: just ground in the kitchen, building all the fan base,
- 1:41Speaker 1: everybody coming to support the brand. If it wasn't me
- 1:44Speaker 1: making it or my two big guys that started with me,
- 1:47Speaker 1: they would say, ah, you know, we went them in
- 1:49Speaker 1: the kitchen, I went, you know, being the kitchen. Now
- 1:51Speaker 1: anybody can make it and it's the same product coming
- 1:53Speaker 1: out every single time. I feel like it's always hard
- 1:56Speaker 1: to manage multiple locations like Chick fil A for example.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I am honest, like, you go to Chick fil a anywhere,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and it's pretty much damn near, you know, consistent, Yeah,
- 2:05Speaker 1: every single time, every time. Is there any fear that,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you know, even though you're giving them the information and
- 2:10Speaker 1: you're showing them how to do, is there any fear
- 2:12Speaker 1: that you may grow so big that you can't really
- 2:14Speaker 1: manage what these locations are doing? Um? I used to
- 2:17Speaker 1: think like that until I got around the right people
- 2:19Speaker 1: and write people on my team that scaled locations before it.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Because when you got the systems in place, like it's
- 2:24Speaker 1: like when you hire somebody, they just ain't jumping right
- 2:27Speaker 1: in and cooking cheese steaks. So getting on the register,
- 2:29Speaker 1: they're actually learning the brand and learning the process and
- 2:32Speaker 1: the protocols, the procedures, everything you need to do. Tactually
- 2:34Speaker 1: scaled the business. So now it's just like a puzzle
- 2:37Speaker 1: was coming together every time you build a location. And
- 2:40Speaker 1: right now I got a good location about the coming
- 2:42Speaker 1: and like another month and a half and I think
- 2:44Speaker 1: that's gonna be my big work. Where you're putting one,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you're putting that come on this ball show. It's coming
- 2:49Speaker 1: out of a sap, all right, it's gonna be in
- 2:51Speaker 1: Jones bro. Yeah, So listen, how did you know that
- 2:57Speaker 1: like you was popping like you like man, all right
- 2:59Speaker 1: man a bit instance is just went from zero to
- 3:02Speaker 1: a hunting um. To be honest, it's when Eve ate
- 3:07Speaker 1: the sandwich. When she uh, you know, when I had
- 3:09Speaker 1: the gas station location and I can't coming and she
- 3:12Speaker 1: was shooting barbershop And the first day I heard she
- 3:16Speaker 1: was coming, I waited like a kid on Christmas because
- 3:18Speaker 1: I needed that pop. I'm like, yeah, she coming, and
- 3:21Speaker 1: then she didn't show up, so I got a lord
- 3:23Speaker 1: of discourage a little bit. But then the next day
- 3:26Speaker 1: she came, and to be honest, I just blew over.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You know seven Figures party in Atlanta that year. You
- 3:32Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, So why I'm making this chicken
- 3:34Speaker 1: cheese steak. I'm saying to myself, like, damn, this sandwich
- 3:37Speaker 1: is gonna save my life or what's gonna get rid
- 3:39Speaker 1: of me? So I'm just like, I gotta make this sandwich.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So I'm sitting there chopping it, and the people behind her,
- 3:44Speaker 1: that's where are she Like, they're not gonna order until
- 3:46Speaker 1: she eat the sandwich. So I never knew that a
- 3:48Speaker 1: cheese steak was gonna save my life, like like really
- 3:51Speaker 1: saved my life. So when she ate it, she posted
- 3:53Speaker 1: her social media networks and the next day I had
- 3:57Speaker 1: the biggest line I ever had at that time. From
- 4:00Speaker 1: there it just was it was just up. But over
- 4:03Speaker 1: the years of me growing the brand, as it grew
- 4:06Speaker 1: from year to year, I had the popularity. I had people,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you know, saying the food was good. But then I'm
- 4:10Speaker 1: trying to figure out, now, how do I open our
- 4:12Speaker 1: location it because you start getting like spoil to it,
- 4:15Speaker 1: to be honest, like you know, it's like a rapper
- 4:18Speaker 1: that come out with a song, what's the next hit? Like,
- 4:20Speaker 1: what's what's coming next? So that was my problem when
- 4:23Speaker 1: I was going through. And now you know, I got
- 4:25Speaker 1: three locations in the Mercedes Bend Stadium that's never been
- 4:28Speaker 1: done by honestly, it's three is on every level. But
- 4:33Speaker 1: I came in there, you know, telling them, like listen,
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm going to change the culture in the stadium, give
- 4:38Speaker 1: me my shot. So sometimes we don't understand that we
- 4:41Speaker 1: gotta ask for what we want, just wait for it.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So I went in there and letting them know that
- 4:45Speaker 1: I was going to be the trend setter in the stadium.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I was going to be the culture change and We're
- 4:49Speaker 1: gonna change the whole dynamic away, this whole thing running
- 4:52Speaker 1: through the food system right now with the highest gross
- 4:54Speaker 1: in restaurant the stadium. I mean, you can't miss it.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Like it's literally on every floor. You cannot miss it.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And for me dedicate in the business to my father,
- 5:01Speaker 1: you know what saying watching him down in front of
- 5:03Speaker 1: my face is like that was my willpower to never quit,
- 5:06Speaker 1: to keep on going. What happened with your father? Yeah? Cancer.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So it's crazy because before I moved to Atlanta, I was, Um,
- 5:14Speaker 1: I was in Athens. I used to play basketball. Um,
- 5:17Speaker 1: you know, my dad moved me out of Philly when
- 5:19Speaker 1: I was in the ninth grade. I was getting in
- 5:20Speaker 1: trouble stuff like that. So I wind up going to
- 5:23Speaker 1: this lower town where you know it ain't the city life.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So you've kind of been in Georgia for a little minute. Yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 1: but I went back to Philly and oh five when
- 5:31Speaker 1: my aunt passed away, So ancer really hit. My family hired.
- 5:34Speaker 1: But the person that was helping raising me but my grandparents,
- 5:37Speaker 1: was my she had passed when oh five, So I
- 5:39Speaker 1: moved back to Philly oh nine. My dad just magically,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, he was coughing. He thought he had a cold,
- 5:45Speaker 1: went to a couple of hospitals, found out he had numonia.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He had cancer. So we came down to uh Emery University.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I'm driving back and forth from you know, from Philly,
- 5:54Speaker 1: trying to help him out. And then the mr of
- 5:56Speaker 1: all this, he wound up passing away in Emery. And
- 5:59Speaker 1: the rich day of my life was July six. And
- 6:02Speaker 1: then this year I had my son at Emory University.
- 6:05Speaker 1: On July six, I think my dad died, you know
- 6:08Speaker 1: what I'm saying, So like all this was a full
- 6:09Speaker 1: circle moment of my life right now. So I know
- 6:12Speaker 1: my story already written and I'm building up being out
- 6:14Speaker 1: the company right now and my father. Well, people be
- 6:17Speaker 1: able to get this in your book, because I know
- 6:19Speaker 1: you're happy what's coming. You got a book coming out
- 6:21Speaker 1: that I'm like two months out right now. Um, just
- 6:26Speaker 1: working on the last finishing touches of it. But um,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I'm really excited about that because this night, that's not
- 6:31Speaker 1: my memoir, but this is gonna be the book that
- 6:33Speaker 1: like take people like if you had a dream, you
- 6:36Speaker 1: had a kids, some alter you know your situation now
- 6:39Speaker 1: and you kind of took a pause on it, this
- 6:41Speaker 1: book on bring you back to life and everything you
- 6:42Speaker 1: want to do, because you're looking at somebody that got
- 6:45Speaker 1: over forty some tattoos on his body. I'm not your
- 6:47Speaker 1: every CEO. I come from the ghetto. I didn't had
- 6:49Speaker 1: a narcotics cases and then arrested all these things, and
- 6:52Speaker 1: I built the multimillion dollar company off for nothing, and
- 6:55Speaker 1: now I own multiple multi million dollar companies off of
- 6:57Speaker 1: believing and everything that I was. You know, my mission
- 6:59Speaker 1: on my dream. Now, we just interviewed your fiancee. She's
- 7:06Speaker 1: in love. You're in love? Oh yeah, definitely. When is
- 7:10Speaker 1: the wedding day? My brother Joe wave you guys excited? No, definitely.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I feel like we're already married though you know, it's
- 7:17Speaker 1: like we already talked about that because on paper, we
- 7:19Speaker 1: got too many assets together, so it's already. She told
- 7:25Speaker 1: us a story. I'm trying to verify some things now.
- 7:27Speaker 1: She said, uh, broken window, she slid in your d M.
- 7:34Speaker 1: The truth she told her. Okay, so I know that
- 7:40Speaker 1: that was accurate. Now, she she left out of detail
- 7:42Speaker 1: of how I got into y'all have them kids? So
- 7:46Speaker 1: did you make the first move because y'all had a
- 7:48Speaker 1: business relationship first. Correct, Yeah, yeah, we had a business relationship.
- 7:52Speaker 1: What did you how did you get personal? My brother? Um,
- 7:56Speaker 1: did you did you realize? No? I just you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: you know, like you know how you you you're cool
- 8:01Speaker 1: with a chick, but you'd be like, damn, you can
- 8:03Speaker 1: see yourself dating. But like this was different. This was
- 8:06Speaker 1: like somebody that I've seen myself. It was like my shadow.
- 8:09Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. So we was talking to
- 8:11Speaker 1: each other. It's like the first moment we we need
- 8:13Speaker 1: some clarity speaking to the mike, sir. What I was
- 8:15Speaker 1: saying is like the first initial meet up place that
- 8:18Speaker 1: we went to, it wasn't a date. It was just
- 8:20Speaker 1: for us to you know, get to know each other
- 8:21Speaker 1: and all that. When she reached out to me when
- 8:23Speaker 1: my windows got bust out from George Floyd were setting, um,
- 8:25Speaker 1: sunflower ahead. No, it's it's never had no vegan food
- 8:31Speaker 1: in my life. This vegan food and my cousin that
- 8:35Speaker 1: was there, he got murdered last year. He was the
- 8:37Speaker 1: only one that really She said the same thing. And
- 8:40Speaker 1: we're sitting there talking and he keeps like tapping my foot.
- 8:43Speaker 1: She don't notice. He like, when we're out of here,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I got him just chilling sitting here, but we're get
- 8:47Speaker 1: in the car and he told me he was like, Yo,
- 8:50Speaker 1: that ship person, like that's gonna be the person you're
- 8:52Speaker 1: gonna be with. And I'm like, man, no, what you're
- 8:54Speaker 1: talking about. We're just doing business together, trying to you know,
- 8:56Speaker 1: help these communities out. But when I realized she was
- 8:59Speaker 1: really the person, and for me, it's when we literally
- 9:02Speaker 1: said we was like one of the build the communities
- 9:04Speaker 1: out with different things. Like you know, usually when you
- 9:06Speaker 1: started talking to a woman in no shading the other woman,
- 9:08Speaker 1: but most of the ship you're talking about is like
- 9:10Speaker 1: some of the stuff like material or it's like what
- 9:13Speaker 1: club you're going to the night or whatever. That hers
- 9:16Speaker 1: was like more like let's be a hundred inmates out,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Let's let's uh get some
- 9:21Speaker 1: let's get some community centers rolling stuff like that. So,
- 9:23Speaker 1: you know, sad to say in the situation for shop
- 9:26Speaker 1: Brooks was murdered, you know what I'm saying, And we
- 9:29Speaker 1: did our first initial gear back was you know, buying
- 9:32Speaker 1: his his wife of a vehicle, providing life insurance for
- 9:36Speaker 1: his kids. CEU partner at was six hundred thousands in
- 9:38Speaker 1: scholarship money, and I'm just like, damn, who else I
- 9:41Speaker 1: could have did this with in the world that would
- 9:43Speaker 1: have believed in what I believed in how to do it?
- 9:45Speaker 1: And from there they just started getting stronger and stronger.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Babies just don't pop up, sir. I want to know
- 9:53Speaker 1: what happened? Did you exactly one of the day that
- 9:56Speaker 1: you leave it for the kids? First? What happened? We'll
- 10:00Speaker 1: be right back with more of the Baller Alert, y'all
- 10:04Speaker 1: real listeak to a special edition up the ball Alert Show.
- 10:07Speaker 1: What's up that your boy d Hayes from Big Dave
- 10:09Speaker 1: Cheese stay chilling on the ball Alert Show? You did?
- 10:12Speaker 1: What happened? No? She can't. She I think it's her
- 10:15Speaker 1: fun what I wanted? Yeah, real life, I think um,
- 10:22Speaker 1: I think she went in for the kill. But kid,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I was ready. So you just probably didn't feel like, well,
- 10:32Speaker 1: I wanted to out of all the people that you
- 10:35Speaker 1: know me growing up and I've been around different females
- 10:37Speaker 1: and you know, this was something different from me. This
- 10:40Speaker 1: was like, this is like not even on those soft ship.
- 10:44Speaker 1: This was like, Damn, I really know what love is now,
- 10:47Speaker 1: because like you can like lust somebody for a long time.
- 10:51Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, should get real then you
- 10:52Speaker 1: see who really love you? You know what I'm saying.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But this person was like, I don't got to go
- 10:57Speaker 1: through all these battles and you know what I'm saying,
- 10:59Speaker 1: see if this person and love me? Because we literally
- 11:02Speaker 1: set our ass out so as assets out on the table,
- 11:05Speaker 1: like when we start dating, like what do you got?
- 11:07Speaker 1: What you got? Like you're gonna meet me halfway on
- 11:10Speaker 1: this like and it was real because honestly, I don't
- 11:13Speaker 1: think nobody wants to jump in a relationship where they
- 11:16Speaker 1: got to take care of somebody or they can't meet
- 11:18Speaker 1: the you know, the other end of the stick. And
- 11:20Speaker 1: for us, you know, I had my ship together, she
- 11:22Speaker 1: had hers together, so it worked out. How do y'all
- 11:26Speaker 1: turn business off? Because you guys are partners, you know,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you are intimate partners. Like it's been like, how do
- 11:32Speaker 1: you turn that off? Or do you feel that your
- 11:34Speaker 1: relationship thrives because you guys are so much like in business? Yeah?
- 11:38Speaker 1: I think because like I said, you, I paid it
- 11:40Speaker 1: to you this way. When you when you wake up
- 11:42Speaker 1: four o'clock in the morning, you've got an idea and
- 11:44Speaker 1: you can wake the person about their sleep and they
- 11:46Speaker 1: can jump right into it with you. It's never hard,
- 11:48Speaker 1: it's never worked, it's it's a purpose, it's meant. You
- 11:51Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. We both do the same thing.
- 11:53Speaker 1: So like when people ask us, how do we leverage
- 11:56Speaker 1: out the business the personal life, all that ship mixed?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Then you know what I'm saying, like first before anything
- 12:02Speaker 1: is my friend. You know what I'm saying, everything else
- 12:04Speaker 1: fast in line of everything else, Like we don't have
- 12:07Speaker 1: the battle the love life because we could be talking
- 12:09Speaker 1: about some business ship and we can start making love
- 12:11Speaker 1: five minutes. Because it was like that's our stipulation. Stimulation
- 12:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying, like like mental stimulation. You know what
- 12:19Speaker 1: I'm saying, learning and learning where we went from each
- 12:22Speaker 1: other and how we're building and that's how we did it,
- 12:24Speaker 1: and that's how we had two kids and two years
- 12:29Speaker 1: along with your two daughters. It's a great extended family. Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I just had um all my kids together last night. UM,
- 12:37Speaker 1: and it was a beautiful thing. When you're watching you know,
- 12:40Speaker 1: three girls and then my young king. You know what
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'm saying, like he growing fast. But I'm actually sitting
- 12:45Speaker 1: looking at my kids and looking at my dynasty that
- 12:48Speaker 1: I'm going to build for them, So I'm gonna get
- 12:49Speaker 1: them all the resources and stuff I never had and
- 12:52Speaker 1: a real you know what I'm saying, a lot of
- 12:54Speaker 1: people use this word because it's popular. The whole I'm
- 12:56Speaker 1: breaking generational curses. A lot of people don't even know
- 12:59Speaker 1: what that means. So I'm gonna give it to y'all,
- 13:01Speaker 1: like it ain't just money because if I if I
- 13:04Speaker 1: leave you a bunch of money, you don't know how
- 13:06Speaker 1: to manage it, You're gonna blow all of the legacy
- 13:08Speaker 1: that I did. Work my ass off the bill. So
- 13:10Speaker 1: you got to actually teach financial literacy before you teach
- 13:13Speaker 1: the generational curse part because if you don't know how
- 13:16Speaker 1: to control the asset part of it, you're never going
- 13:18Speaker 1: to keep the asset. And the reason why they call
- 13:20Speaker 1: it generational you know what I'm saying, curses because they're
- 13:24Speaker 1: thinking like, oh, yeah, we're gonna now get to the
- 13:26Speaker 1: next generation ain't gonna be to carry it. But that's
- 13:28Speaker 1: what we go through. That ain't where a lot of
- 13:30Speaker 1: other generating no cultures go through. Because they're teaching their
- 13:33Speaker 1: kids that eighteen percent and what I'm saying of credit
- 13:36Speaker 1: card is already going over your limit before you pay
- 13:39Speaker 1: the bill, if you pay, you know, at the last minute,
- 13:41Speaker 1: or learning how to send your kids the college off
- 13:43Speaker 1: cash forwards money like you know, you got a credit
- 13:46Speaker 1: card and every every time you spend it, you can
- 13:48Speaker 1: transfer that money to a bank account. That's free money.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Imagine you did that for eighteen years, they could be
- 13:52Speaker 1: a kid of college fund. So that's the different ways
- 13:54Speaker 1: that you can control the financialiteracy part of it to
- 13:56Speaker 1: break the generational curses. So you know, I think we
- 13:59Speaker 1: all use that and interviews and everybody like, yeah, I'm
- 14:02Speaker 1: trying to break my family generational curses. But what are
- 14:04Speaker 1: you really breaking If you're the only person breaking it
- 14:06Speaker 1: when you leave it, they ain't going out of control it. Yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 1: if you're not sharing the information. And still now you
- 14:11Speaker 1: gotta share the information information. I mean they say that,
- 14:14Speaker 1: you know, by the third generation, the wealth tends to
- 14:19Speaker 1: deplete because that person wasn't taught or given the proper
- 14:22Speaker 1: resources and education. So I think it is really important
- 14:25Speaker 1: to make sure that you're instilling those key values because
- 14:27Speaker 1: that's all you know. Because think about it, some of
- 14:29Speaker 1: us in here right now, our families could have actually
- 14:32Speaker 1: had the bag early on, like we don't even know
- 14:35Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, never carried on to us.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So whatever your last name is, back in the seventeen hundreds,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you might have been cool, you might have had all
- 14:42Speaker 1: the gold, you know what I'm saying, But it didn't
- 14:44Speaker 1: get carried on that way. So we can't just use
- 14:47Speaker 1: that thing and saying that we don't have a fair
- 14:48Speaker 1: shake when we know now we're getting tricked out our
- 14:50Speaker 1: spots to get the right spoon, you know what I'm
- 14:54Speaker 1: That's how I look at everything. Okay, all right, well
- 14:56Speaker 1: sir uh you had anything to talk about the founder Shaw,
- 15:01Speaker 1: What's what's some of the work that that we can
- 15:03Speaker 1: look forward to you accomplishing with the foundation? Um? Well,
- 15:05Speaker 1: right now, man, pinky Uh, we're doing this life insurance
- 15:08Speaker 1: initiative on on black men us UH make thirty thousand
- 15:13Speaker 1: dollars a lesson income, you get a life insurance policy,
- 15:16Speaker 1: pay for the fresh year and prudential partner with us UM.
- 15:19Speaker 1: I think that's big because me coming from Philly, I
- 15:22Speaker 1: lost a lot of my friends or people in my
- 15:23Speaker 1: neighborhood and then they got to go have go fund
- 15:26Speaker 1: mese or fish fries. You know what I'm saying. Now days,
- 15:29Speaker 1: we're trying to provide something that they don't have to
- 15:31Speaker 1: go through with that. But people don't understand that life
- 15:33Speaker 1: insurance is just not a life and the deaf thing,
- 15:35Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. That's the real financial literacy
- 15:37Speaker 1: part of it. Because if I had life insurance and
- 15:40Speaker 1: me and you cousins, and I got mine policy for
- 15:42Speaker 1: like a year or two, I can add you onto
- 15:44Speaker 1: my policy and now you're gaining your own, you know
- 15:46Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So it's like you're passing on the sticks.
- 15:49Speaker 1: And I think a lot of us go through UM,
- 15:51Speaker 1: a lot of trauma. UM trauma is a memory inside
- 15:55Speaker 1: of your brain that stored until you learn how to
- 15:57Speaker 1: control that. And we take that up, you know what
- 15:59Speaker 1: I'm saying, from filthood, and then we try to you know,
- 16:01Speaker 1: when we get to adults, were still kids in our
- 16:03Speaker 1: minds because we're blaming all the things that happened in
- 16:05Speaker 1: our lives, and we gotta stop doing that. So this
- 16:08Speaker 1: initiative was solely for that and the other things that
- 16:11Speaker 1: I've been doing, like even in the pandemic, my foundation,
- 16:14Speaker 1: we've had forty hospitals every single day. Um, I've seen
- 16:18Speaker 1: a lot of people standing down. We wanted to stand
- 16:20Speaker 1: up because we know the community has built us. Without
- 16:22Speaker 1: the community, we was nothing. Um. I gave out probably
- 16:25Speaker 1: two hundred dollars throwing out throughout that year, two businesses
- 16:29Speaker 1: to help stay open. You know, a lot of things
- 16:31Speaker 1: that we did was to keep everybody around us going
- 16:34Speaker 1: because we was the only will rolling. You know, we
- 16:37Speaker 1: eventually was gonna go down. A lot of people scared
- 16:39Speaker 1: of get next to another popping thing because they think
- 16:41Speaker 1: it's gonna hurt them, But that's gonna help you because
- 16:43Speaker 1: that community gonna stand strong together. And that's what I
- 16:45Speaker 1: was trying to do with my foundations. And I named
- 16:47Speaker 1: it David and Derrik Cage Foundation after my father. So
- 16:51Speaker 1: this year, um, actually j what was like two weeks ago,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I was on Tamaran, so I just did Tamara hall. Um.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I gave a school twenty dollars from my foundation. They
- 17:03Speaker 1: named the hub athro me in the high school. So
- 17:06Speaker 1: I'm getting honored with that after the holiday. So I'm saying, like, damn,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I ain't from Atlanta, but now they naming schools after me. Yeah,
- 17:13Speaker 1: So that was that was the real special thing. So
- 17:15Speaker 1: it's it's showing that people appreciate, you know, all the
- 17:17Speaker 1: hard work that I'm playing out on the community because
- 17:19Speaker 1: we're community based. Like I already got the food popping,
- 17:22Speaker 1: already got the business popping. But what's that if you
- 17:25Speaker 1: got another young brother look like you struggling and you
- 17:27Speaker 1: can't give him information on what's really going on out there.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And I do a lot of talking to the community.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So that's basically what I do with the foundation. Your
- 17:34Speaker 1: fiancee is vegan, you are not? Uh do y'all use
- 17:40Speaker 1: the same you know? Uh, one side of hers one
- 17:47Speaker 1: side of yours? Now, Um, we got a flat top
- 17:50Speaker 1: so we got like burners just like stove and then
- 17:53Speaker 1: we got like um flat tops like using the restaurant.
- 17:56Speaker 1: But we do have um dishes that we we do cooking.
- 18:00Speaker 1: But we respect each other in the household. It ain't
- 18:02Speaker 1: like you know, what you eat ill or all that hand. Naturally,
- 18:07Speaker 1: by being around somebody that eats a little bit healthier,
- 18:10Speaker 1: you go Eventually, I was just gonna, yeah, it's a
- 18:14Speaker 1: certain things. So you know a lot of stuff I
- 18:16Speaker 1: eat now days. Um, No, I'm not vegan. I love seafood.
- 18:20Speaker 1: So I always just ate seafood anyway, So I still
- 18:24Speaker 1: eat chicken, and I eat a lot of seafood. Do
- 18:26Speaker 1: you see yourself leaning towards veganism one day? No? And
- 18:32Speaker 1: not and not and not even just because um, I
- 18:35Speaker 1: would say not because that I wouldn't want to or
- 18:38Speaker 1: I can't uphold or some thing, just that type of food.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I really love seafood, you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 18:45Speaker 1: I really like I gotta have like the blue crabs, shrimp,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I gotta have oysters, all of that stuff. Like yeah,
- 18:54Speaker 1: I really I grew up off of that, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 1: like Philly is like you know, it's it's right next
- 18:59Speaker 1: to bottom or it's so we get all of like
- 19:01Speaker 1: the blue crabs and all that. So like that's something
- 19:04Speaker 1: that I really like can shake. It's like a real dress.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You guys, um RaSE your kids, uh in the vegan
- 19:11Speaker 1: lifestyle or just they just you know, you just give
- 19:14Speaker 1: them free will No they vegan. The kids is vegan,
- 19:20Speaker 1: but my son he might be uh you know, he
- 19:24Speaker 1: might be a little pesketian like yeah, but I'm gonna
- 19:28Speaker 1: give him that option. If they want to be vegan
- 19:31Speaker 1: like their mom, they could be vegan. But it's it's
- 19:33Speaker 1: it's a it's a good thing for me because a
- 19:35Speaker 1: lot of my family died from cancering. A lot of
- 19:37Speaker 1: stuff they pain in foods. We don't really you know,
- 19:39Speaker 1: what we eat, and so you know, a lot of
- 19:41Speaker 1: that education, you know, you know, rubbed off on me
- 19:44Speaker 1: and I'm learning different things. But also where I'm learning
- 19:48Speaker 1: from her with the food, she's learning from me because
- 19:50Speaker 1: a lot of people don't know that, Like even in
- 19:53Speaker 1: Big Davis, we don't. We don't sell um steak that
- 19:56Speaker 1: has hormones in it or any any of that in it,
- 19:58Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So we have a healthier
- 20:01Speaker 1: choice of if that's what you know. I'm saying, if
- 20:03Speaker 1: that's what you want to eat. And I always wanted
- 20:04Speaker 1: to build my brand that way because I didn't want
- 20:07Speaker 1: to just you know, sell trash meat. Like a lot
- 20:10Speaker 1: of people don't understand that that steak that we sell
- 20:12Speaker 1: is expensive. We just set a lot of it to
- 20:14Speaker 1: me to uphold the profits. But we didn't have the
- 20:17Speaker 1: traffic that we had, I probably would have been buried,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Because it cost a lot,
- 20:21Speaker 1: like one case of steak cost to twenty and we
- 20:24Speaker 1: and we're selling ten thousand pounds of steak almost every week.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Damn you know what I'm saying. You can definitely tell
- 20:29Speaker 1: this quality. Yeah, for sure, I gotta be. We'll be
