- 0:08I was born to kill it.
- 0:15I was meant to win.
- 0:16I am down and willing so I
- 0:18will find a way.
- 0:19It took a minute and I
- 0:20didn't have to ride away.
- 0:34what is going on everybody
- 0:36welcome to the Clydesdale
- 0:37media podcast where we are
- 0:39featuring the athletes of
- 0:41the North American
- 0:42semifinals and for the
- 0:44third year in a row I have
- 0:46the pleasure to talk to
- 0:48Jack rosimo what's going on Jack
- 0:50Not much, man.
- 0:50How are you doing?
- 0:51I'm doing well.
- 0:53Yeah.
- 0:54So before I dive into a bunch of stuff,
- 0:56when I do these,
- 0:58I like to do enough
- 0:59research to get a good idea
- 1:03of who I'm interviewing.
- 1:04But for a lot of these
- 1:05semifinal interviews,
- 1:07I've talked to you guys
- 1:08enough times at the competitions,
- 1:11on these interviews.
- 1:13And so it's really just kind
- 1:14of a catch-up.
- 1:15But for you...
- 1:16I went to your game site
- 1:18just to kind of get, like,
- 1:19your numbers for the last couple years.
- 1:22Your profile pic on the game site.
- 1:26Oh, on the CrossFit Games website?
- 1:27Yeah.
- 1:28Yeah,
- 1:28that's still from my days at Ohio
- 1:31State Wrestling.
- 1:33So I think that was, yeah,
- 1:34I think that was my, I don't remember,
- 1:35even remember, like,
- 1:36my freshman early days, like freshman,
- 1:39sophomore year.
- 1:39So that was already, I don't know,
- 1:42eight years ago, seven, eight years ago,
- 1:44something like that.
- 1:45so I just pulled it up uh it
- 1:48is if you said if you said
- 1:50college wrestling picture
- 1:52this is what would show up
- 1:52in the dictionary yeah yeah
- 1:56that sounds about right
- 1:57yeah no facial hair growing
- 1:59there yet really just uh
- 2:02just a little yeah I think
- 2:04I was 19 or 20 probably in
- 2:05that picture so it's crazy
- 2:07almost 10 years ago then
- 2:08yeah and you have you've
- 2:09not changed are you gonna
- 2:10just leave it forever
- 2:12My picture?
- 2:12Yeah.
- 2:13Yeah, I don't have a reason to change it.
- 2:16Like you said,
- 2:17there's not really a better
- 2:18athlete picture.
- 2:21I'm just living the wrestling vibe.
- 2:25Are you trained as a
- 2:26wrestler to have the death
- 2:27stare whenever you get your photograph?
- 2:30Uh, not really.
- 2:31I think I would think I
- 2:32thought I was a lot tougher
- 2:33back then than I actually was.
- 2:34So it was more of a persona
- 2:35trying to put on, you know?
- 2:37Um, so I don't, I think I was just like,
- 2:40don't feel like smiling that day.
- 2:42Maybe I think I can't just kind of blurry.
- 2:43Maybe I had a little bit of
- 2:44a black eye on my left eye that day.
- 2:45Maybe I just didn't feel
- 2:46like smiling cause I was
- 2:47getting beaten practice so bad.
- 2:48That's probably what was going on.
- 2:50Yeah.
- 2:51Yeah.
- 2:52Yeah.
- 2:53So in years past,
- 2:54we've talked about your
- 2:55Ohio State days because I
- 2:56live here in Columbus still to this day,
- 2:59just north of the city.
- 3:03But you grew up in Michigan.
- 3:06Are you back in Grand Rapids?
- 3:08No.
- 3:09So I've been,
- 3:09I've made a couple moves with
- 3:11the army so far.
- 3:11So I'm active,
- 3:13I'm an active duty attorney in the army.
- 3:14So we, I grew up in Michigan,
- 3:16went to school and law
- 3:17school at Ohio state where
- 3:18I wrestled and then went to law school.
- 3:20And then, um,
- 3:21I did two years at Fort Riley, Kansas.
- 3:23Uh, that was my first duty station.
- 3:25And then now I'm at Fort Knox,
- 3:26Kentucky as of last, last summer.
- 3:29So that's why the last two
- 3:30years I was in the West this year,
- 3:32I'm back in the East.
- 3:34So that's kind of why.
- 3:35Are you full-time army warrior fitness?
- 3:38Um, so not technically.
- 3:39So I'm affiliated with the team and I'll,
- 3:41when I go to comps like, uh, you know,
- 3:44semis and Wadapalooza and
- 3:45larger events like that,
- 3:46I'm part of the team.
- 3:48I represent the team,
- 3:49but my contract with the
- 3:51army is such that after I
- 3:53graduated law school,
- 3:54I have a commitment to the JAG Corps.
- 3:56So I have to be a full-time
- 3:57attorney for a certain number of years,
- 4:00um, before that contract is up.
- 4:02And so I'm still in that
- 4:03initial four-year contract.
- 4:04And even though I'm
- 4:05I'm qualified as a CrossFit
- 4:07athlete to be on the team.
- 4:09The powers that be in the
- 4:10Army have basically said, not right now.
- 4:14We're not going to allow you
- 4:14to be a full-time CrossFit
- 4:16athlete right now because
- 4:17you're still in that initial contract.
- 4:20But the good part is this
- 4:21assignment at Fort Knox has
- 4:22allowed me to be –
- 4:24Basically,
- 4:25as much as I could be full time
- 4:27without actually being full time on paper,
- 4:29because my office,
- 4:30my attorney office with the
- 4:32JAG Corps for United States
- 4:34Army Recruiting Command is
- 4:35like three minutes down the road.
- 4:36So I'm able to kind of come
- 4:38and go more so throughout
- 4:39the day than I would
- 4:42otherwise at like a
- 4:43traditional job where I
- 4:44would have to find um a gym
- 4:47to train at you know either
- 4:48the the crossfit gym in
- 4:49town which is kind of what
- 4:50I would do in kansas you
- 4:51know I would have to drive
- 4:5230 minutes to work and then
- 4:53figure out how to train
- 4:54either before or after it
- 4:55and so this way um the last
- 4:57year has been good because
- 4:58it's been a lot it's been
- 4:59it's allowed me to train a
- 5:00lot more focused and just
- 5:01make more use out of the hours of the day
- 5:05Real quick, Jamie Latimer,
- 5:07who is my co-host,
- 5:09and she was with me last year at Semis.
- 5:11She's from Lansing,
- 5:13so she's got to love those boys.
- 5:15Yeah, for sure.
- 5:16That's where I'm from,
- 5:18like an hour west of
- 5:19Lansing and Grand Rapids.
- 5:21I was up there for her.
- 5:22She's competing Masters this year,
- 5:24and I was up there for her quarterfinals.
- 5:27I love Grand Rapids.
- 5:29Any chance I can get to go over there,
- 5:30I love that place.
- 5:31Yeah.
- 5:32Yeah,
- 5:32we just went to a concert there last
- 5:34week.
- 5:34So I'm always trying to find
- 5:35excuses to go back.
- 5:37Because I love the area,
- 5:39especially during the summer.
- 5:40It's the best like from now
- 5:41until Labor Day.
- 5:41It's I love there's nothing
- 5:43better than West Michigan.
- 5:44So that brings up the question.
- 5:45They have an amazing
- 5:46competition there every
- 5:48year called Fresh Coast.
- 5:50Have you ever been or do you
- 5:52plan on ever going?
- 5:54So, like, yeah,
- 5:55I'm pretty sure we're
- 5:56talking about the same one.
- 5:57Fresh Coast Fit Fest in
- 5:59Muskegon on the lakeshore.
- 6:01Me and two guys,
- 6:03the two guys that are on Team 8th Day,
- 6:05so 8th Day CrossFit in the east,
- 6:08I think they were, like,
- 6:09one point away from making
- 6:10the games last year.
- 6:11So last summer I did the
- 6:13Team of Three male with Dylan and Michael,
- 6:16and we won it at the Team
- 6:18of Three competition for Fresh Coast.
- 6:20So, yeah.
- 6:21Yeah.
- 6:22Yeah, and Rich showed up last year,
- 6:24Rich Froning.
- 6:25Yeah, yeah.
- 6:26It was weird.
- 6:27I didn't even know that he
- 6:28was going there or, like,
- 6:30was going to be there.
- 6:30And I just, like, looked over,
- 6:31and he was just, like,
- 6:32sitting there on the beach.
- 6:33So it was kind of funny.
- 6:33We were like, what's up, man?
- 6:35So, yeah.
- 6:37So it is my goal to make it
- 6:39up there for that this year.
- 6:41Yeah, it should be fun.
- 6:42Yeah, it's always a good time.
- 6:44Yeah.
- 6:44I mean, CrossFit and beach and lake, like,
- 6:49why not?
- 6:50Yeah, this this past year they had,
- 6:51which I'm trying to still
- 6:52be a part as much of a part of that can.
- 6:54I'm kind of obviously not
- 6:56co-located with it,
- 6:57but they had wrestling.
- 6:58They had beach wrestling
- 6:59there last year to to kind
- 7:00of hit the wrestling part again.
- 7:02So to basically just throw a
- 7:03rope down in the sand like
- 7:04a ring in this basically
- 7:06kind of freestyle wrestling rules where,
- 7:08you know,
- 7:08you just kind of also from your
- 7:09feet and whoever gets a
- 7:10takedown or a push out gets points.
- 7:12And so it was kind of cool.
- 7:13They had like their CrossFit floor,
- 7:15like rig floor set up.
- 7:16And then 50 yards this way was like the,
- 7:19the peer, they call it peer wrestling,
- 7:21like the peer Michigan logo,
- 7:22but they flipped the M
- 7:23upside down and do a peer wrestling.
- 7:24So they, so they'll have probably,
- 7:26I would assume they'll have
- 7:27that again this year with
- 7:28CrossFit going and then
- 7:29beach wrestling going right next to it.
- 7:30It was fun.
- 7:31Yeah,
- 7:31all Jamie ever talks about is the
- 7:33competition.
- 7:33And then I think it's called
- 7:35the Pier Restaurant where
- 7:36everybody goes and they're
- 7:38hammered after the competition.
- 7:39Yeah, it's right there.
- 7:41It's like right up the parking lot.
- 7:42Yeah, it's good.
- 7:43Good stuff.
- 7:44Yeah, that's how she sells it to me.
- 7:46So I don't know if that's
- 7:47just my personality that
- 7:49she's selling to.
- 7:51Yeah.
- 7:53So we talked about Rich.
- 7:55Are you still a Mayhem Athlete?
- 7:57Absolutely.
- 7:58Yeah, I'm Mayhem.
- 7:59I'm fully Mayhem everything.
- 8:00I love what they stand for, their values.
- 8:04I've been working with Coach
- 8:05Jake Locker a little bit
- 8:06more this summer.
- 8:08He's definitely what would be my coach.
- 8:10I'm not, I guess, the same as...
- 8:14I'm not I'm not someone who
- 8:15likes to have who feels
- 8:16like they need or likes to
- 8:17have a full time coach that
- 8:19I'm always kind of hip to hip with.
- 8:21But definitely Jake has
- 8:22helped me out a lot this year.
- 8:24So definitely following
- 8:27mayhem more than anything
- 8:30and much more this past
- 8:31year and working with Jake
- 8:32and everyone there.
- 8:33And now Fort Knox, Kentucky,
- 8:35where I live is like.
- 8:37less than three hours from
- 8:38mayhem so um kind of going
- 8:40down there as much as I can
- 8:41to do little training camps
- 8:42and prep for stuff which I
- 8:44think next week I think
- 8:45next week we'll be going
- 8:46down there to kind of prep
- 8:46for semis to do like a
- 8:47little mock semis out there
- 8:49at least all the all the
- 8:50events too so that'll be
- 8:51fun so hillar was down
- 8:53there like a week or two
- 8:55ago yeah I saw that I
- 8:57haven't watched his uh I
- 8:58haven't watched his video
- 8:58yet I saw he posted one
- 9:00like 48 hours at mayhem or something
- 9:02Yeah, it was really, really enlightening.
- 9:04They showed where,
- 9:07I can't remember the guy
- 9:07who kind of runs the facility,
- 9:10but he was talking about how like,
- 9:12this is how you kind of
- 9:13qualify to be able to work
- 9:14out in the back room.
- 9:16You know, like if you're still alive,
- 9:17you get to work out back here.
- 9:19If you're eliminated,
- 9:20it's for the athletes that
- 9:21are still alive.
- 9:22Okay.
- 9:24And it seemed like really brutal,
- 9:26but it made perfect sense.
- 9:27Yeah.
- 9:28Yeah, for sure.
- 9:29It's like, you know, it's a,
- 9:31it's something to strive for, you know,
- 9:32if you haven't reached that level yet.
- 9:34Um, and yeah, it's a,
- 9:36it's kind of an elite
- 9:37membership of people that can,
- 9:38that can be there and to
- 9:39kind of build each other up and, and, um,
- 9:41make each other better that, so, you know,
- 9:43environments a lot
- 9:44environment can help you a lot and who,
- 9:46who you surround yourself
- 9:47with is a major indicator
- 9:49of where you're going to go.
- 9:50So that's where,
- 9:51that's why I like that area too.
- 9:54Getting to know you over the
- 9:55last few years,
- 9:56you just seem like-minded
- 9:57with a lot of the people there.
- 10:00Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:02Faith Family Fitness Service
- 10:07is the order in which and
- 10:09what I try to strive to
- 10:11have my life be revolved around as well.
- 10:13Absolutely.
- 10:15So before we get into the CrossFit stuff,
- 10:17you had a child recently.
- 10:21How's that going?
- 10:22This is your second?
- 10:24Yep.
- 10:24So we got two girls.
- 10:25Yeah, we got Riley,
- 10:26who will be three in August.
- 10:28So she's two and three quarters now.
- 10:30And then Jordan, my youngest daughter,
- 10:32was born in November.
- 10:33So in three days, she'll be six months.
- 10:36So that's been...
- 10:37It's been an adventure.
- 10:38It's been fun.
- 10:39My wife is awesome.
- 10:40She deserves all the credit
- 10:41for them being who they are.
- 10:44She's in the trenches, as I like to say,
- 10:48every day as a stay-at-home mom.
- 10:50We're blessed to be able to
- 10:51be in that situation.
- 10:52It's been awesome to...
- 10:55Be a dad, you know,
- 10:57definitely puts things in
- 10:58perspective for what you
- 11:00want your life to be and
- 11:01the example you want to set.
- 11:03So that's been a great journey so far.
- 11:06Not so much the nights that
- 11:07they decide they both don't
- 11:08want to sleep on the same exact night,
- 11:11which makes the next day
- 11:13and recovery and life in
- 11:15general a little bit more challenging.
- 11:16But, you know,
- 11:17that's what everyone who
- 11:18pretty much everyone who
- 11:19has kids will say.
- 11:20It's the most challenging,
- 11:21but the most rewarding thing.
- 11:22One of the most rewarding
- 11:23things you'll ever do.
- 11:25Yeah,
- 11:25we got really lucky because we only
- 11:27had one,
- 11:28but I'm kind of a night owl and
- 11:30my wife is like an early riser.
- 11:33So she would go to bed early.
- 11:34I would stay up with the
- 11:35daughter and we'd go to bed.
- 11:37Then she would sleep in long
- 11:38enough for my wife to kind of get up,
- 11:41get her stuff together.
- 11:42That's good.
- 11:43Yeah, compliment each other.
- 11:44That's good teamwork.
- 11:45You got to have good teamwork like that.
- 11:47It's important for sure.
- 11:50Yeah.
- 11:53So sleep's good now going into semis?
- 11:56Did you say sleep's good?
- 11:57Yeah.
- 11:57Yeah.
- 11:58Yeah,
- 11:59they've both been well above average
- 12:03sleepers just when we talk
- 12:04to other people about their
- 12:07kids and just what you read
- 12:10and see about other kids.
- 12:13I mean, Jordan's six months.
- 12:15She's kind of going through what they say,
- 12:16like a six-month sleep
- 12:17regression right now, but it's not.
- 12:20Most nights,
- 12:21they both sleep through the night.
- 12:22That's good.
- 12:23It's been good.
- 12:24I talked to some friends and
- 12:25they look at me with their
- 12:26nine month old baby and they're like,
- 12:28we haven't slept in like
- 12:29eight months because she don't go,
- 12:31she don't go down for more
- 12:32than like 90 minutes.
- 12:33And I'm like, yeah, that's rough.
- 12:34I wouldn't know.
- 12:35But yeah, so it's everything.
- 12:37No, everything's been good.
- 12:39Leading up to semis, like feel good.
- 12:42Body feels good.
- 12:43Training's going good.
- 12:45Everything is really can't
- 12:46complain about anything.
- 12:48So with all this going on in
- 12:49your life and you get closer to semis,
- 12:54is there a part of you that
- 12:55it's hard to kind of set
- 12:57the priorities still as you
- 12:59get closer to semis?
- 13:02Or is that something you and
- 13:03your wife talk about quite a bit?
- 13:06I think we do talk about it a lot,
- 13:09and we have a very good
- 13:10open relationship where it's like, hey,
- 13:12if I'm sucking in this area,
- 13:14we'll just tell each other, hey,
- 13:17you're falling short here.
- 13:19You're doing great here.
- 13:20What you're doing here is bothering me.
- 13:22So we just have a very...
- 13:24strong relationship of communication,
- 13:26I think.
- 13:27And we kind of have those
- 13:28expectations already from
- 13:30just our first daughter and
- 13:32kind of going through the season already.
- 13:33You know,
- 13:34she's fully so supportive and so
- 13:36understanding of how much
- 13:37time it takes to dedicate
- 13:38to training if you want to
- 13:40really be successful in this sport.
- 13:42Um, so, and just kind of one example,
- 13:44what I just said, like when some,
- 13:45when the girls get up in
- 13:46the middle of the night or one of them,
- 13:48you know,
- 13:48she's getting up 90% of the time.
- 13:50Cause she realizes that like,
- 13:51I'm trying to sleep to go
- 13:51to work and train, um,
- 13:53and come home and be
- 13:54present at the same time
- 13:55and just with other things going on.
- 13:57But, um,
- 13:58I think it's just a shared
- 13:59understanding that
- 14:00intensity kind of ramps up
- 14:01once the season,
- 14:02the open is here and the
- 14:03season kind of then gets going.
- 14:06We have our kind of set schedules.
- 14:08And so those two kind of
- 14:09things work in tandem.
- 14:10Our experience at Fort Riley
- 14:12before when I had kind of a more intense,
- 14:15my job as an attorney was a
- 14:16little bit more time
- 14:17demanding and I lived
- 14:18farther away from the office.
- 14:19So being here has been a
- 14:22nice change in pace where I
- 14:23can just focus more for a
- 14:26couple of different reasons on,
- 14:28on CrossFit,
- 14:29but also be really home more
- 14:32hours of the day too.
- 14:33So it's definitely teamwork.
- 14:34Um, like I said, she's amazing.
- 14:36Um,
- 14:37I owe her a lot of credit for just
- 14:39putting up with my,
- 14:40putting up with my crap when I'm,
- 14:42when I'm gone a lot,
- 14:43doing multiple sessions a day,
- 14:44plus working plus, you know,
- 14:46being involved with men's
- 14:47groups or church activities
- 14:49or that we both,
- 14:50we both do those as well.
- 14:51But, um,
- 14:52It's just – yeah,
- 14:53it just all comes down to teamwork,
- 14:54communication.
- 14:56Faith is at the center of our relationship,
- 14:57which is a huge foundation for us.
- 15:01Neither of us are perfect.
- 15:02I'm far from perfect.
- 15:03I make mistakes all the time,
- 15:05but we just communicate
- 15:05with each other and we get it done.
- 15:09So with – so you're in the Army.
- 15:14How much –
- 15:16I guess I don't understand
- 15:18what the JAG Corps does.
- 15:19Are you representing soldiers?
- 15:22Are you representing the Army itself?
- 15:25How does that work?
- 15:26So both.
- 15:26Yeah, both.
- 15:27It just depends on what job you do.
- 15:28And that's kind of what the
- 15:30appeal and what the JAG
- 15:32Corps kind of hangs its hat
- 15:33on is you can get this
- 15:34broadly skilled range of
- 15:36stuff because when you come in,
- 15:37there's kind of a templated
- 15:38experience of –
- 15:39You do legal assistance,
- 15:41which is when you just work
- 15:42in an office and you basically do,
- 15:45you have clients that are
- 15:46soldiers and retirees and
- 15:47family members of soldiers
- 15:48and retirees that can come
- 15:50to the legal assistance
- 15:51office and get legal help
- 15:53with anything other than
- 15:54criminal matters.
- 15:56That's a whole different field.
- 15:57Like if they're on,
- 15:58if they're under investigation,
- 15:59if they've been charged with a crime,
- 16:00that's trial defense services,
- 16:02which is its own part.
- 16:03So you can be
- 16:04an army prosecutor, essentially.
- 16:06You can be an army defense counsel,
- 16:07which is what I just said, trial defense,
- 16:09trial defense services.
- 16:10And then there's this whole
- 16:11kind of bucket of stuff in
- 16:12between there that you can
- 16:13be administrative law,
- 16:15which is what I do right now.
- 16:16And you basically do just,
- 16:17you advise commanders in
- 16:18the command on how to
- 16:19basically do their jobs within regs,
- 16:22within, uh,
- 16:23Title 10 of the United States Code,
- 16:25which governs the military.
- 16:27And so you're really just in
- 16:29the sense your client really is the army.
- 16:32And you might be advising commanders,
- 16:34you might be advising the
- 16:35unit that you're attached
- 16:36to for how to hold events,
- 16:38how to discipline their soldiers,
- 16:41whether they can do certain
- 16:42fiscal or monetary ethical
- 16:44things along with that
- 16:48align with both different bodies of law,
- 16:51like just
- 16:52united states code or army
- 16:53regulations or department
- 16:55of defense instructions
- 16:56there's this whole body of
- 16:57stuff so yeah that's kind
- 16:59of a long answer of what
- 17:00you just asked is the army
- 17:02the jag corps and you know
- 17:04the navy and the air force
- 17:05and the marine corps have
- 17:06their have their jag corps
- 17:07as well you are just you
- 17:08are that services attorneys
- 17:10for whatever job that
- 17:12you're currently in and
- 17:13there's a variety of them
- 17:15And then is it typical you
- 17:17just stay in whatever group
- 17:20or bucket or can you be moved around?
- 17:22So there's kind of some
- 17:23flexibility with that.
- 17:25As you go along in your career,
- 17:27you can stress to the
- 17:28command and to the
- 17:29leadership that you want to
- 17:30specialize more in some areas.
- 17:33At the end of the day,
- 17:34you go where the Army needs you.
- 17:36It's the Army's needs,
- 17:37and then your needs go beneath that.
- 17:41Typically in the JAG Corps,
- 17:42you move more often than
- 17:43other assignments in the Army.
- 17:44You'll probably move every
- 17:45two or three years.
- 17:47Two is kind of the default.
- 17:48You have to kind of beg and
- 17:49plead to stay somewhere
- 17:50longer than three or four years.
- 17:54That's really typically only
- 17:55granted if you have family
- 17:57situations or if you're
- 17:58trying to specialize in a certain area,
- 18:00but typically they're going
- 18:01to shuffle you around.
- 18:02You can't really sit in one area.
- 18:03You can't just say, hey, oh,
- 18:04I really like military justice.
- 18:06I want to be a prosecutor
- 18:07for my entire career.
- 18:09You might be able to get
- 18:09away with specializing for a few years,
- 18:11but once you reach a
- 18:13certain rank and you've
- 18:14been a certain place long enough,
- 18:15they're going to just have
- 18:16to keep shifting you around
- 18:17because that's the way things work.
- 18:19Okay.
- 18:20Is it your goal to retire
- 18:22from the army or have you
- 18:23not made that decision yet?
- 18:25Uh, my wife and I,
- 18:26we haven't really made that decision yet.
- 18:27I don't,
- 18:28we don't see ourselves staying in
- 18:29for a 20, 25 year career, um,
- 18:31in the army.
- 18:32But, um, yeah, I,
- 18:35it's kind of just a year to year thing.
- 18:36One of, you know, the JAG Corps, um,
- 18:39the three-star general who's the,
- 18:41the judge advocate general
- 18:42of the army came and visited, um,
- 18:45when I was at Fort Riley.
- 18:46And just one thing he said
- 18:47stuck with me is that like,
- 18:48even he has someone who
- 18:49obviously would advocate
- 18:50for you staying in the JAG Corps.
- 18:51Um, but he was like, Hey, I just, it's a,
- 18:53it's a decision that you
- 18:54and your family should look
- 18:54at on a yearly basis.
- 18:56Like,
- 18:56annually you should check in
- 18:57and say do we like what
- 18:59we're doing do we like
- 19:00where we are and are we
- 19:01happy with those two things
- 19:03and if the answer is no
- 19:04then go do something else
- 19:05so I think once we you know
- 19:07I think we'll still every
- 19:09six to twelve months we'll
- 19:10check in and say hey do we
- 19:11like where we're at and
- 19:12where we're gonna go and if
- 19:14not I'll do something else
- 19:16When and if you become a civilian,
- 19:20are you still an attorney
- 19:21in civilian life?
- 19:22Yeah.
- 19:23Yeah.
- 19:24So if I choose to.
- 19:25So for a few different reasons,
- 19:28I chose to take the bar exam in Ohio.
- 19:30So I'm a licensed attorney in Ohio.
- 19:33But now that I'm coming up
- 19:35on four or five years as an attorney,
- 19:37I can...
- 19:38I can most likely transfer
- 19:40to most other states because the bar exam,
- 19:43when I took it,
- 19:44it was kind of transferring
- 19:45this thing called the universal bar exam.
- 19:48And so really,
- 19:49once you take a state that
- 19:51has the UBE and you score high enough,
- 19:54which I did to basically
- 19:55transfer into any other
- 19:56state that also does the UBE,
- 19:59You can just say, Hey,
- 19:59I've been practicing for a few years.
- 20:01I have this score in my UBE.
- 20:02I want to practice here.
- 20:04Now you pay your, you pay your attorneys,
- 20:06a bar association fees,
- 20:07and then now you're
- 20:08licensed in that state as well.
- 20:09So, um, I can, yes,
- 20:12you have to be a full on
- 20:13licensed civilian attorney first,
- 20:14and then you join the JAG Corps.
- 20:17That's kind of how it works.
- 20:18Okay.
- 20:19Makes sense.
- 20:21Um,
- 20:22so the CrossFit brought back the
- 20:24service open.
- 20:25Do you think that's important?
- 20:27Yeah, I think as well.
- 20:29I think it's definitely
- 20:31important to involve those
- 20:33different bodies of people
- 20:35that obviously I think are
- 20:36the lifeblood of the
- 20:37community in a lot of ways.
- 20:39And I think it's good that
- 20:40they show that they're
- 20:41still supportive of that.
- 20:42Absolutely.
- 20:44And then Mayhem is doing their own...
- 20:48The version of that everyday hero.
- 20:51And they're including
- 20:53frontline workers like the
- 20:55medical profession teachers.
- 20:59Do you participate in those
- 21:01things or because you have
- 21:02bigger aspirations in CrossFit?
- 21:04Does that kind of go on the back burner?
- 21:07So honestly,
- 21:08if I hadn't been traveling last week,
- 21:10I may have done that
- 21:12everyday hero qualifier
- 21:13just to kind of do a few
- 21:15workouts and do the in-person,
- 21:18assuming I won the military version,
- 21:20the military leaderboard to
- 21:21do the comp in Cookville.
- 21:23But yeah.
- 21:24just for a couple of reasons.
- 21:25Um, mainly like you just said,
- 21:27my goals are to make and be
- 21:29competitive at the CrossFit
- 21:30games this year.
- 21:31Um, that obviously takes priority.
- 21:34And so things kind of leading up to that,
- 21:36um, I just chose not to do it this year,
- 21:37but I might, I might do it next year.
- 21:40Because you're so close to mayhem.
- 21:42Would it be fun to watch if,
- 21:44because if people don't
- 21:44know the everyday heroes
- 21:46ends with an in-person
- 21:48competition with each, each, um,
- 21:54group of people having a
- 21:56representative and then you
- 21:57compete against each other
- 21:59to kind of see is better than police,
- 22:03better than fire.
- 22:05Friendly competition is great like that.
- 22:08I love seeing that.
- 22:10I think that's June 22nd is
- 22:12the day that it's an
- 22:13in-person in Cookville.
- 22:15If I'm able to go watch, honestly,
- 22:18I'm going to try to because
- 22:19it'd be cool to see.
- 22:20I think you're right.
- 22:20I think it's male-female teams
- 22:23of this different service
- 22:24groups so yeah like you
- 22:25said law enforcement
- 22:26against military against
- 22:27teachers against emt or
- 22:29whatever it is that
- 22:30whatever they have their
- 22:30leaderboards so yeah it'd
- 22:32be fun how much smack talk
- 22:34do you think happens in
- 22:35that event yeah I hope a
- 22:36lot I think I think the
- 22:38sport needs more more smack
- 22:39talk and not not as much uh
- 22:42kumbaya high-fiving which
- 22:44is good I'm not saying
- 22:45that's bad but I just think
- 22:46it's I think I think smack
- 22:47talking and uh friendly
- 22:48competition is good
- 22:51So,
- 22:52so you already talked about the last
- 22:54year you were in the West this year,
- 22:55you're in the East.
- 22:57There is a perception that
- 23:00the East is a much harder
- 23:02region than the West,
- 23:04but if that's so it's going
- 23:06to have more spots than the West.
- 23:09So do you look at it as an
- 23:12advantage or disadvantage
- 23:13coming back to the East?
- 23:15I honestly, the way I look at it,
- 23:17my goals are not to just make the games.
- 23:19I mean,
- 23:19I want to be – my goal straight up
- 23:23this year is to be top 15 at the games.
- 23:27so it's just, just as a,
- 23:28just as a benchmark, you know,
- 23:29it would be my rookie year,
- 23:31assuming I make it, um,
- 23:32I want to play stop 15 and get,
- 23:33and then get invited and compete in rogue,
- 23:36um, in Scotland this year.
- 23:37So those are kind of my goals.
- 23:38I mean, I just look at it as I'm in a good,
- 23:41you know, I'm 28.
- 23:42Like I said,
- 23:42my training last year has been great.
- 23:44Um, that's my goal.
- 23:45I want to,
- 23:46I want to go win every event
- 23:47that I'm going to,
- 23:48that I'm a part of and just
- 23:49put the best version of my
- 23:51skills and hard work, uh,
- 23:54um and support system out
- 23:56there and see what happens
- 23:58and so that being said I
- 23:59don't I'm of the viewpoint
- 24:00that whether I'm in the
- 24:01West East or even Europe
- 24:02this year looks the most
- 24:04stacked when you just look
- 24:04at the scores of all the
- 24:06semi-finals um doesn't
- 24:08matter what semi-final in
- 24:09I'm gonna I'm gonna go to
- 24:10the semi-final um I'm gonna
- 24:11podium at the semi-final or
- 24:13be close enough to it to
- 24:14secure my spot at the games
- 24:15and it doesn't matter where
- 24:16it is that's kind of my mindset
- 24:19Okay.
- 24:20So let,
- 24:21let's go a little timeline last
- 24:22year in the West,
- 24:24you were flirting with that
- 24:25qualification spot.
- 24:27You were bouncing,
- 24:29you were kind of in that
- 24:29little group that was bouncing above,
- 24:31below, above, below.
- 24:32And at the end of the
- 24:33weekend you fell just outside.
- 24:36Yep.
- 24:37Was there anything you
- 24:38learned that weekend that
- 24:39took you forward that now
- 24:40gives you this belief?
- 24:42Uh,
- 24:43I think I learned where I needed to
- 24:44work more.
- 24:45Um,
- 24:47I learned just the holes
- 24:48that I had were too big of
- 24:50holes to be competitive in
- 24:53an event that only has six
- 24:54or seven events in a weekend.
- 24:57If that's for me, it's like, hey,
- 24:58barely touching a barbell
- 25:01and doing a crap ton of
- 25:04inverted gymnastics and
- 25:05hanging gymnastics and rope climbs, um,
- 25:08and just,
- 25:08and just dialing in sleep and
- 25:10nutrition more, which I,
- 25:12which I've been trying to do.
- 25:13Um, then that's, that's what I have.
- 25:15So I, I've always,
- 25:16I've always had good self-belief and, um,
- 25:20knowing that I can be out
- 25:21there and compete with them.
- 25:22It's just, it's just hard.
- 25:24It's just been hard when
- 25:25certain movements have came
- 25:26up that I just didn't,
- 25:27don't have a strong background in.
- 25:29And so that's the, over the last year,
- 25:31I've been trying to work in
- 25:32those areas as much as I can.
- 25:34And so that's just, um,
- 25:36Yeah, so that's what,
- 25:38even without the events being released,
- 25:39those were my mindset,
- 25:40but now with three events
- 25:41being released that I'll
- 25:42have a moderate to heavy barbell in them,
- 25:44I think it's as good a year
- 25:47as any for me to go out
- 25:49there and execute and
- 25:50compete right alongside the
- 25:52best of the sport.
- 25:54If you were forced to call
- 25:55your shot on one event, what would it be?
- 25:57Definitely the snatch ladder.
- 26:00I think I can challenge the
- 26:04best in the world if not win that event.
- 26:07Assuming I don't miss,
- 26:09but I don't plan on missing.
- 26:14I love barbell work.
- 26:16Strength has been a strength for me.
- 26:19If I go out there with the
- 26:21right strategy and hit all my snatches,
- 26:23I think I can win that
- 26:24event across the board.
- 26:27I got to say, Jack,
- 26:28in the three years I've talked to you,
- 26:29this is the most confident
- 26:30I've ever seen you.
- 26:32And I love it.
- 26:33I love every bit of it.
- 26:35Yeah.
- 26:37Confidence comes from preparation.
- 26:38Your offseason,
- 26:39you did some comps this
- 26:41year with some big hitters in it.
- 26:44You started with Crash Crescendo.
- 26:48You did that, you podiumed.
- 26:51It was not a, it had a heavy,
- 26:56top heavy group of guys and you podiumed.
- 26:59Did that give you some confidence?
- 27:02Yeah, that did.
- 27:03It was, it was a good, it was a good, um,
- 27:06solid weekend of just,
- 27:08of just like you said, being there with,
- 27:10with Austin Colton and
- 27:11James and a lot of other,
- 27:12of other great athletes of
- 27:14throwing down in that environment, um,
- 27:17with a lot of loud screaming people.
- 27:19And a lot of those,
- 27:20a lot of those events
- 27:21really hinged on how well
- 27:24you could execute.
- 27:25And even though, even with that event,
- 27:26I had a bunch of stuff that
- 27:27I didn't execute to perfection, but, um,
- 27:31Yeah,
- 27:31I think that that was a good event to
- 27:35test where I was at the time and carry.
- 27:38I still have the notes from
- 27:41that competition that I
- 27:42kind of frequent in my training.
- 27:44So yeah,
- 27:44it definitely was a good experience.
- 27:47So tell me about that.
- 27:48You take notes after a competition?
- 27:51Yeah.
- 27:51Yeah.
- 27:51I always,
- 27:52I always do whether I'm testing events,
- 27:54um,
- 27:54before a competition or usually the night,
- 27:57the night of a, of a competition, uh,
- 27:59whether, you know,
- 27:59whether it's a multi-day
- 28:00competition or not,
- 28:01I just kind of take some
- 28:02time by myself and write in my phone, um,
- 28:05whether it's a Google doc
- 28:06or iPhone notes and just
- 28:07write out the event,
- 28:08write what I was thinking, right.
- 28:10As it started, right.
- 28:11What I was thinking, um, you know,
- 28:13in the middle of where it
- 28:14was starting to get hard,
- 28:15like how I paced it and broke up the reps,
- 28:17um, and stuff like that.
- 28:18And I just, um,
- 28:20I always,
- 28:20I just try to break stuff down as
- 28:21much as I can to tie,
- 28:23even if it's something
- 28:23super small that I can
- 28:24carry on and reference back later.
- 28:27I try to do that as much as I can.
- 28:28So, yeah.
- 28:31So as someone who was not at crash,
- 28:35from what I understand,
- 28:36it is an event that is run
- 28:38so professionally.
- 28:39It's like being at a semifinal.
- 28:42Yeah.
- 28:42Yeah, absolutely.
- 28:44Yeah.
- 28:44A hundred percent from the
- 28:46way that they have the,
- 28:48have everything laid out to
- 28:49how you get corralled and
- 28:50everything is right on time.
- 28:52And just the, you know, the judging,
- 28:54the movements,
- 28:54the workouts that are
- 28:55programmed or well-rounded tests.
- 28:57Yeah.
- 28:57It's just a,
- 28:58it's just a super zoomed in
- 29:00version of semifinals basically in a,
- 29:02you know, you walk in and you're like,
- 29:04Oh yeah,
- 29:04this is a regular everyday
- 29:05CrossFit gym that they just
- 29:06turn into an elite field of
- 29:10people that come want to
- 29:11compete against other
- 29:13compete against other
- 29:14people in the sport that are really good.
- 29:17And they have all the toys.
- 29:19Yeah, yeah, they do.
- 29:20Yeah.
- 29:21So you get to work out at mayhem sometimes,
- 29:24but like,
- 29:26I've never seen a trapeze total bar.
- 29:31No, me neither.
- 29:31I don't think anyone did
- 29:32before they showed up there.
- 29:34We saw some hints that it
- 29:35was going to be in the in the event,
- 29:37but I never did one until we got there.
- 29:39So when a competition offers those,
- 29:42for lack of a better term, odd objects,
- 29:45is that good for you in the
- 29:47offseason to kind of like
- 29:48just get your hands on
- 29:49weird things at times?
- 29:50Yeah, I think it's good if you can.
- 29:54If you can get practice on
- 29:58anything that's going to be
- 30:00in the competition, it's good.
- 30:02But I think if you can do it, if you can't,
- 30:06whatever,
- 30:07you just better go out there and
- 30:07figure it out.
- 30:09I say that and then this year,
- 30:10semifinals is about as
- 30:12classic CrossFit as it's ever been.
- 30:15Absolutely.
- 30:16I love the events.
- 30:18I've always been a big
- 30:18advocate of getting back to just, hey,
- 30:22let's do really simple triplets, couplets,
- 30:24short chippers of the classic movements.
- 30:28We don't have to get crazy
- 30:29and try to reinvent brand
- 30:32new movements every year and blah, blah,
- 30:34blah to try to make the wow
- 30:35factor or whatever.
- 30:36I think we just need to
- 30:38stay stick to the basics of
- 30:39what made it attractive and
- 30:40what made people want to
- 30:41get out there and compete
- 30:42in these events and that
- 30:43they're exciting to the
- 30:44finish and I think I think
- 30:45this year is since I've
- 30:47been competing is the best
- 30:48semi-finals program so far
- 30:49but we'll see how it goes
- 30:51uh so trish asks if I'm
- 30:53interviewing jason statham
- 30:55you ever get that
- 30:56Someone literally – I
- 30:57honestly haven't gotten it that much,
- 30:59but I just had friends over
- 31:01for dinner like two nights ago,
- 31:03and he just said the exact same thing.
- 31:04So that's hilarious.
- 31:06So it must be a few people think that,
- 31:08I guess.
- 31:09It's got to be like the
- 31:10gruffy beard thing.
- 31:11It's probably when I don't shave, yeah.
- 31:13So that's funny.
- 31:14I mean,
- 31:14a good part about being in the Army
- 31:16is like if you –
- 31:19they have certain policies
- 31:20now that are pretty beneficial to you.
- 31:25The downside is, yeah,
- 31:26you move around every
- 31:27couple of years and stuff like that.
- 31:28But even me as the dad,
- 31:29I get 12 weeks of leave for
- 31:32when you have a child.
- 31:33So that's why I've not been
- 31:34to work in a couple of
- 31:35weeks other than training, obviously,
- 31:37but I've not done my
- 31:39attorney job in a couple of weeks.
- 31:40So whenever I get a chance to not shave,
- 31:42whenever I get to the army,
- 31:43I will not shave one more
- 31:45time in my entire life.
- 31:47Trish admits she doesn't have her
- 31:49eye focus on that's all
- 31:51right I'll still take it um
- 31:54and then back to the auto
- 31:55lynn uh nijiri says the odd
- 31:57objects are good practice
- 31:58for athleticism which helps
- 32:00in the games yeah yeah I
- 32:02would agree with that for
- 32:03sure so so you finish crash
- 32:07you you have a great run
- 32:08there then you get to
- 32:10wadapalooza and talk about
- 32:14like nothing going as planned
- 32:18Well,
- 32:19I think things went planned from the
- 32:20Snatch Complex, the lift that they had.
- 32:22I hit the number I wanted to there.
- 32:25And then it was just, yeah,
- 32:28like it did rain all weekend,
- 32:29which everyone dealt with.
- 32:30You know, it wasn't just me.
- 32:31So they changed the events a little bit.
- 32:33And I'm someone who does not
- 32:36have the slightest bit of a
- 32:37swimming background.
- 32:38I've tried and I continue to put in.
- 32:41Yeah.
- 32:43Uh, to put in, you know,
- 32:45I try to do different workouts,
- 32:47get input from coaches, uh,
- 32:49people with swimming backgrounds.
- 32:50I'm like, Hey, watch, watch my stroke.
- 32:52And they're like, yeah, that's God awful.
- 32:53You got to work on that.
- 32:54And I'm like, I know I'm trying.
- 32:55I watch videos.
- 32:56I do different workouts.
- 32:58Um, I've gotten better.
- 33:00Like, you know,
- 33:00I'm certainly not one of
- 33:01the best swimmers or not
- 33:02certainly a good swimmer,
- 33:03even in the eyes of CrossFit yet.
- 33:05But that's something that
- 33:06obviously you're going to
- 33:06deal with when you go to a
- 33:07lot of Palooza and,
- 33:08and once you get to the games, um,
- 33:10Um, now that now they're in Texas,
- 33:11probably maybe a short pool swim, um,
- 33:14if at all.
- 33:14So I think I'll,
- 33:16I think I've gotten to the
- 33:17point where I'm like, Hey,
- 33:17I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
- 33:19I'm not going to put as much
- 33:20of an emphasis on swimming, um,
- 33:23because I think it just, for me,
- 33:24it's a net negative.
- 33:25It takes away from other
- 33:26holes that I can work on.
- 33:28Um, and so, yeah,
- 33:28that is kind of what
- 33:29happened to a lot of blues that there was,
- 33:30I was the last one in the
- 33:32water and the last one out of the water,
- 33:34um, for that swim.
- 33:35And that kind of set me back.
- 33:37Um, and then still just the other,
- 33:38the other events, uh, same, just,
- 33:40just execution errors, um,
- 33:42here and there and,
- 33:43and a really good field.
- 33:44It was, it was a stack field.
- 33:45So, um, it is what it is really short.
- 33:48I think there was only five
- 33:48events that year.
- 33:49So, um,
- 33:51or this past, this past year.
- 33:52So it is what it is.
- 33:55Also two things.
- 33:56One, um, I swam at Ohio state.
- 33:58So you did.
- 33:59Yeah.
- 34:00Nice.
- 34:01So I, when I watched CrossFitter swim, my,
- 34:04I,
- 34:05get like sure don't watch me
- 34:09even some of the good ones
- 34:10are not really like using
- 34:11the best form yeah and the
- 34:13other thing I learned a
- 34:14long time ago was that the
- 34:15correlation between
- 34:16wrestlers and swimming is
- 34:18not a good one not great no
- 34:20no good or swimmers
- 34:23wrestlers that can swim
- 34:25Yeah, not often.
- 34:26Not often, nope.
- 34:28I think Chandler might be
- 34:29the only good one that's
- 34:30ever came out of D1
- 34:31wrestling that's a good swimmer.
- 34:34That's a good point.
- 34:35Yeah, I don't know.
- 34:37And then,
- 34:37so Carolyn Prevost co-hosts a
- 34:39show with me now, and she always says,
- 34:41like, her swimming is terrible, but...
- 34:44Like you said,
- 34:45it's not advantageous for
- 34:47her to make it better.
- 34:49She's only ever going to get
- 34:50maybe five places better in that.
- 34:52Exactly.
- 34:53And what does that take away from other?
- 34:55Because it's only ever going
- 34:56to be one event.
- 34:57Exactly.
- 34:58Yeah.
- 34:58Yeah.
- 34:58You know, it's only going to be one event.
- 35:00And that's why me, I'm like, Hey,
- 35:02if I make it to the games, you know,
- 35:04you got 12 to 15 events.
- 35:05Swimming is one of them.
- 35:08I'll grip my teeth and try
- 35:10to crack out at best middle of the pack,
- 35:13maybe beat five or 10 guys.
- 35:15And that's just going to be what it is for,
- 35:17for now, for the foreseeable future.
- 35:19Maybe I'll,
- 35:20maybe I'll have some kind of
- 35:20breakthrough or I don't know.
- 35:22It's like a mental thing with me.
- 35:23I, I,
- 35:25I literally used to just be
- 35:26absolutely terrified of the
- 35:27water of basically like one
- 35:30step above like, holy crap,
- 35:31I'm going to drown.
- 35:32Like it was,
- 35:33I was like barely one step above,
- 35:35like I knew I wasn't going to drown,
- 35:36but it basically felt like
- 35:37it when I jumped in the water,
- 35:38especially doing something else first.
- 35:40Now I'm like,
- 35:41I've definitely gotten to the
- 35:42point where I can jump in
- 35:43the water and swim half mile mile.
- 35:45If I need to, it's going to be pretty slow,
- 35:46but I know I'm not going to drown.
- 35:48And I know I might be able
- 35:49to beat a couple of people.
- 35:50So, but that's, but you know, that's,
- 35:52that's hard when you're at
- 35:53an event like a lot of
- 35:54Palooza and that's one
- 35:55sixth of your score.
- 35:56Like it's, it just is what it is.
- 35:59Yeah.
- 36:00You just don't want to end
- 36:00up like easy Muhammad,
- 36:02like floating around in the ocean.
- 36:04Yeah.
- 36:05Yeah.
- 36:06Yeah.
- 36:06I want to avoid that.
- 36:07Yeah.
- 36:07Yeah.
- 36:08Um, so, you know,
- 36:10you're a military guy and
- 36:12military guys are known for
- 36:13like being punctual timeliness.
- 36:17You go to Wadapalooza and like,
- 36:18it's all up in the air.
- 36:20Does that,
- 36:21does that mess you up or can you
- 36:22go with the flow?
- 36:24No, I think I'm pretty good with the flow.
- 36:26I think I say this all the time.
- 36:28There's a lot of being in
- 36:29the Army that I enjoy, but in a way,
- 36:31I think it's just my
- 36:32personality or just the way
- 36:34I've grown up.
- 36:35And I don't know my experiences,
- 36:37my collective experiences,
- 36:38but I'm the most non-Army
- 36:40person that you'll probably
- 36:41meet on the street.
- 36:41If you met me on the street,
- 36:43you probably wouldn't know
- 36:44that I'm in the Army just
- 36:44because the way I talk and
- 36:46I'm laid back and stuff like that.
- 36:48So, yeah, I...
- 36:50I'm generally unbothered by
- 36:52certain because I'm just like, hey,
- 36:53I can only control what I
- 36:54can control and the event
- 36:57schedule and the weather
- 36:58and certain like that.
- 37:00I try to spend zero time and
- 37:02energy on things that I cannot control.
- 37:04And that's one of those.
- 37:05So.
- 37:07So I'm just going to finish
- 37:08up with how's the health?
- 37:11My health?
- 37:12Yeah, it's been great.
- 37:13great we got nothing I got
- 37:16zero injuries which I'm
- 37:17extremely blessed um
- 37:19nothing nothing nagging um
- 37:22you know as long as my as
- 37:24long as my girls keep
- 37:25sleeping pretty uh pretty
- 37:26regularly uh should be peak
- 37:28should be should be ready
- 37:29to peak but no my health is
- 37:31great so you're in optimal
- 37:33shape heading into
- 37:34semifinals you've got all
- 37:36the confidence in the world
- 37:38and you truly believe this
- 37:40is your year to get over that hump
- 37:42yeah no I absolutely I think
- 37:44I can I think I can go out
- 37:45on the floor and put my my
- 37:48best product on the floor
- 37:50is good enough to win um
- 37:52whatever whatever's thrown
- 37:53at us so I and like like I
- 37:56said before that that comes
- 37:57through preparation that
- 37:58mainly comes from my faith
- 38:00and my support system
- 38:01that's the first thing
- 38:02that's most important to me um and so
- 38:05Having that at the foundation,
- 38:07having Christ at the center
- 38:08of my life is where I
- 38:09derive all of my motivation, strength,
- 38:13and trying to find my path
- 38:16and what that's supposed to be.
- 38:18And for now,
- 38:18I'm going to try to be the
- 38:19best CrossFit athlete I can be.
- 38:21And I think that that
- 38:23version of myself is good
- 38:24enough this year right now to be good.
- 38:28So I'm a Christian man,
- 38:30and it's a lot of work to
- 38:34keep Christ in the center of my life.
- 38:37Things come and things go,
- 38:38and it's really hard,
- 38:39and it's what I try to do.
- 38:41You're a mayhem athlete.
- 38:43Paige Powers this week came
- 38:45on the Savant show and
- 38:47talked about how not making
- 38:48it to semifinals or the
- 38:49games this year because of
- 38:51the penalty situation.
- 38:53It's God's plan,
- 38:54and it may be a way for...
- 38:56How impressed were you with
- 38:59that response?
- 39:01And I know I would be so upset.
- 39:05And the maturity she showed
- 39:07to come out that way was
- 39:10just so impressive.
- 39:12yeah no that's super
- 39:13inspiring um I think that
- 39:15that I think that's
- 39:16indicative of someone who
- 39:17has their values as in the
- 39:19place that they say they do
- 39:21um and when they say hey
- 39:22jesus is lord of my life um
- 39:24and all I'm trying to do is
- 39:26glorify him in everything
- 39:27that I do and romans 8 28 says um
- 39:32You know, we know that in all things,
- 39:34God works for the good of
- 39:34those who love and move and
- 39:35call according to his purpose.
- 39:36And so if you actually believe that,
- 39:39you have to show it in your
- 39:42actions and your beliefs.
- 39:43And no matter what happens with you,
- 39:44it's actually funny.
- 39:45I just sent this to my
- 39:46buddies the other day.
- 39:48I think it was yesterday
- 39:49because I was listening to
- 39:51a sermon about Philippians 4.13 that says,
- 39:55you know,
- 39:55I can do all things through
- 39:57Christ who gives me strength.
- 39:58And that's often quoted as, hey, I can...
- 40:03do and achieve and go chase
- 40:05and pursue all these things
- 40:06um because I have christ
- 40:07but actually the context of
- 40:08that verse is the previous
- 40:10verses it's about paul
- 40:12writing about how he's
- 40:13content in every any and
- 40:14every circumstance um and
- 40:17so that's that's the
- 40:18context of that verse is
- 40:20christ gives you the power
- 40:20to be content whether
- 40:22well-fed or hungry whether
- 40:23living in plenty or in want
- 40:25um and so I think that you
- 40:26know you can take that and
- 40:27apply it to every
- 40:30season of life um and say
- 40:31hey I'm content my purpose
- 40:33is to glorify god um and I
- 40:36know that he's I know that
- 40:37in all things um he's
- 40:39working for the good of
- 40:40those who love him and
- 40:41called according to his
- 40:41purpose so I think that
- 40:42that's super inspiring to
- 40:44hear people actually live
- 40:45that out and be bold and
- 40:47proclaim it it's cool you
- 40:49said that because
- 40:50philippians 4 13 is my
- 40:52tattoo oh is it really nice
- 40:56awesome that whole thing
- 40:57right there awesome yeah cool
- 41:00nice well jack as always
- 41:03it's so fun catching up
- 41:04with you um we will be
- 41:07rooting for you to make the
- 41:08games uh you know
- 41:09appreciate that you're a
- 41:11columbus guy at least for
- 41:12part of your life yeah I'm
- 41:15definitely go bucks I mean
- 41:16I grew up the west side of
- 41:17michigan so michigan state
- 41:19fan um I don't like seeing
- 41:21the university of michigan

- 41:32that city and um what that
