- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm here with brave centerfielder center fielder Michael Harris. I'm
- 0:19Speaker 1: gonna hit you with a tough question right away. We
- 0:21Speaker 1: played together in twenty twenty three. In twenty twenty four,
- 0:24Speaker 1: I got asked by a reporter who do I think
- 0:26Speaker 1: could win the National League MVP?
- 0:29Speaker 2: And I chose you. What's it gonna take for you
- 0:31Speaker 2: to prove me?
- 0:33Speaker 3: Right?
- 0:35Speaker 4: I think exactly what I'm doing right now kind of
- 0:39Speaker 4: came into spring knowing, knowing what it took, what it
- 0:42Speaker 4: probably takes to get to that next level offensively for me,
- 0:45Speaker 4: and I guess right now I'm being more selective and
- 0:48Speaker 4: kind of find the right pitches to swing at and
- 0:51Speaker 4: kind of accumulated some walks already. So hopefully that translates
- 0:54Speaker 4: into the season and it can kind of prove you
- 0:56Speaker 4: right there you go.
- 0:58Speaker 5: We'd love to see it.
- 0:59Speaker 6: So for our audience, I don't think we had you
- 1:02Speaker 6: last year, at least not later in the year. So
- 1:05Speaker 6: can you just kind of run through your evaluation of
- 1:07Speaker 6: the season. It was kind of wild, right, I think
- 1:09Speaker 6: well documented. You went through some ups and downs early
- 1:12Speaker 6: on in the season, then you just tore it up late.
- 1:15Speaker 6: So what did you see when you were able to
- 1:18Speaker 6: evaluate your season in the off season on how things
- 1:21Speaker 6: changed and what you learned from it.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say the first half it's pretty nasty.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Didn't know, didn't know what was going on, didn't know
- 1:32Speaker 4: what to fix, was trying different things. It will work
- 1:34Speaker 4: for a couple of days and then go back to
- 1:37Speaker 4: not really feel like myself. Until I came to the
- 1:39Speaker 4: conclusion of my hands weren't getting to where I needed
- 1:42Speaker 4: them to be. I would try to do drills in
- 1:45Speaker 4: the case to exaggerate and get them up, and they
- 1:47Speaker 4: were never they would never get up there. So I
- 1:48Speaker 4: went it just said why not move my hands back up.
- 1:52Speaker 4: I made the change when I got caught up to
- 1:53Speaker 4: them from up to down, so I don't think it'd
- 1:56Speaker 4: be that hard to go from down to up. Then
- 2:00Speaker 4: I've pretty much done my whole life. So once I
- 2:03Speaker 4: did that, everything started to flow. Uh started to hit
- 2:06Speaker 4: fastballs again like normal, and and I felt felt like myself.
- 2:09Speaker 4: So that's it's kind of what I what I assessed.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Tried to keep doing that during the off season, make
- 2:15Speaker 4: sure everything was nice, polished, and here in spring training
- 2:18Speaker 4: trying to put it all together to be ready for
- 2:20Speaker 4: Game one.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, speaking of the off season, when you walked in here,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I said, you look like you're in great shape. Obviously,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know the world knows about Lawrence Butler, but tell
- 2:28Speaker 1: us about some of those other guys that you're kind
- 2:30Speaker 1: of your your your baseball buddies that you trained with,
- 2:33Speaker 1: the the Atlanta Boys and what you guys call yourself.
- 2:37Speaker 7: Yeah, we call ourselves the Hill Boys.
- 2:40Speaker 4: It's Chandler Simpson, Lawrence Butler, Jayalen Allen, Marquise Grissom, r
- 2:45Speaker 4: Ryan Spike's, Cam Collier and myself. So yeah, we're from Atlanta.
- 2:52Speaker 7: Uh.
- 2:52Speaker 4: It started, It started in covid. We couldn't work out anywhere,
- 2:55Speaker 4: so Markus Grissom let us work out at his at
- 2:59Speaker 4: his what is it called his property, his property, and
- 3:03Speaker 4: in Georgia and ever since then we kind of we
- 3:06Speaker 4: kind of give ourselves the Hill Boy's name, and it's
- 3:09Speaker 4: run by him and Luke Caryer. So they work us
- 3:11Speaker 4: to death and we kind of come into spring training
- 3:13Speaker 4: in shape.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Have you raced Chandler chance? Have you raced him yet?
- 3:20Speaker 4: I mean yeah, from from that one video everybody saw, uh,
- 3:24Speaker 4: I say I won, I'm not gonna race him again.
- 3:26Speaker 4: And obviously try to lose, but I'm gonna just take
- 3:29Speaker 4: my title and say I won that one.
- 3:32Speaker 6: Oh wow, I remember that. Okay, so one and done.
- 3:34Speaker 6: What did Chandler say afterward? Was he trying to get
- 3:36Speaker 6: you to go again?
- 3:39Speaker 5: No?
- 3:41Speaker 7: Originally that it wasn't even like a race.
- 3:43Speaker 4: It was just our last sprint of the day after
- 3:45Speaker 4: the workout, and it happened to be recorded, and uh.
- 3:49Speaker 7: I happened.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I guess technically I came in second from what Lawrence says,
- 3:53Speaker 4: but he had on a long beanie, so it doesn't
- 3:55Speaker 4: really count. He's already six y four with a long
- 3:57Speaker 4: beanie reach over the line. I feel like I won,
- 4:01Speaker 4: but uh, Chandler actually came in third, so that kind
- 4:04Speaker 4: of makes him a little slower in the head, and
- 4:07Speaker 4: he doesn't.
- 4:07Speaker 7: He didn't like that, so I'm definitely not again.
- 4:11Speaker 8: Are you gonna?
- 4:11Speaker 9: Are you gonna take over for the freeze or looking
- 4:13Speaker 9: for a new freeze in between?
- 4:14Speaker 8: In it you could just be the new freeze.
- 4:17Speaker 9: Apparently the freeze left. You could be the freeze and
- 4:19Speaker 9: then just how the people try to chase you since
- 4:21Speaker 9: you're so fast.
- 4:23Speaker 4: I can start from center, I'm not I'm not going
- 4:25Speaker 4: from the from the stout line.
- 4:27Speaker 7: I'll start from center and try to finish.
- 4:29Speaker 1: H How how how different it's camp been without uh
- 4:35Speaker 1: Ronald being here? I know it's probably you know, we
- 4:37Speaker 1: love Ronald, but your ears get a little nice break, right,
- 4:41Speaker 1: You don't have to hear him talk all day every day.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not even it's not even Ronald, it's Izzy.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Everybody got a nice, nice release when he left. It's
- 4:50Speaker 4: a lot quiet air stretch. We can focus that stretch.
- 4:55Speaker 4: But yeah, obviously missing missing those guys. Uh hoping they're
- 4:59Speaker 4: having fun WBC and they're a big part of this team.
- 5:03Speaker 7: But it is a lot quieter without Ozzi here.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Hey, have you been watching?
- 5:08Speaker 6: Of course you know Ozzy had his big moment over
- 5:11Speaker 6: the weekend, but have you been watching the games? And
- 5:13Speaker 6: what did you think of Ozzie's big swing?
- 5:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I've been.
- 5:18Speaker 4: I've been tuning into two games when I could. It
- 5:20Speaker 4: was crazy because when Ozzie hit the walkoff, I had
- 5:23Speaker 4: just came in from from coming out of a game
- 5:25Speaker 4: that day. As soon as I walk in, he's in
- 5:27Speaker 4: that situation. And then first pitch Homer, everybody's in the
- 5:30Speaker 4: clubhouse going crazy. They call him afterwards, He's talking to
- 5:35Speaker 4: the guys.
- 5:36Speaker 7: Yeah, it was. It was a crazy moment. Yeah, doing
- 5:40Speaker 7: that for your country.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I know that it means so much to him and
- 5:44Speaker 4: hopefully we can see that this year with the with
- 5:46Speaker 4: the team.
- 5:48Speaker 6: The number one rated ticketing app is seat geek and
- 5:51Speaker 6: you can get ten percent off on seat geeks app
- 5:54Speaker 6: by using the code territory ten, So you should use it.
- 5:57Speaker 5: AJ.
- 5:58Speaker 9: I'm definitely gonna use it for w VC games in
- 6:00Speaker 9: Miami because I want to go to the semifinals in
- 6:02Speaker 9: the finals.
- 6:03Speaker 5: And they're going to be sold out.
- 6:04Speaker 9: Absolutely go spring training games for the people out there
- 6:06Speaker 9: who want to go to spring training games.
- 6:08Speaker 8: Absolutely great idea best seats Radar one through.
- 6:10Speaker 9: Ten and I recently had to use sea geek to
- 6:12Speaker 9: buy tickets to a Florida Gators basketball game that was
- 6:14Speaker 9: sold out. So I love the code territory ten percent
- 6:17Speaker 9: off and the rating is the best.
- 6:19Speaker 6: Yes, he's talking about each ticket rated on a scale
- 6:21Speaker 6: of one to ten, so you know you're getting a
- 6:23Speaker 6: good deal.
- 6:23Speaker 5: So look for the green dots. Green means good, red
- 6:26Speaker 5: means bad. And of course we have a code for you.
- 6:29Speaker 6: Like I mentioned, it's Territory ten for ten percent off
- 6:32Speaker 6: your next set of tickets at se geek. That's ten
- 6:35Speaker 6: percent off any tickets with promo code t E R
- 6:38Speaker 6: R I t O R Y one zero. Make sure
- 6:40Speaker 6: you click the link in the description and download the
- 6:42Speaker 6: app and have the code automatically added to your account
- 6:45Speaker 6: so you can use it later.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Thank you to see geek.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you're you're you're still young enough. But when you
- 6:51Speaker 1: when you watch that, is there some extra motivation to
- 6:54Speaker 1: potentially want to go represent the USA and play center
- 6:58Speaker 1: field form?
- 6:59Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, I think it'll It'll mean a lot
- 7:01Speaker 4: to be able to to wear USA across my chest
- 7:04Speaker 4: and be able to play for this country. I guess
- 7:08Speaker 4: it's whenever, whenever I get the chance to, I try
- 7:12Speaker 4: my best to put on for this country.
- 7:15Speaker 9: Michael, you're from Atlanta. We talked about you being from
- 7:18Speaker 9: Atlanta and your whole thing. Who has more commercials when
- 7:21Speaker 9: you watch a Braves game? You or Jeff frank core
- 7:25Speaker 9: Because when you turn on a Braves game, it is
- 7:27Speaker 9: commercial Michael Harris a second Jeff frank Corer. And then
- 7:31Speaker 9: it's like back and forth, which one of y'all has
- 7:33Speaker 9: more commercials happening in Atlanta at the same time.
- 7:37Speaker 7: From what I hear. It has to be me.
- 7:39Speaker 4: I feel like every commercial is is a different it's
- 7:42Speaker 4: a different Bronco commercial.
- 7:45Speaker 9: Yes, you must have a whole fleet of Broncos.
- 7:49Speaker 7: No, I just I don't know.
- 7:51Speaker 8: I hate to hear it.
- 7:51Speaker 4: I just hate to hear myself back and so I
- 7:55Speaker 4: kind of avoid hearing them. But people tell me all
- 7:57Speaker 4: the time that I'm not going to every commercial and
- 8:01Speaker 4: I better really give that Bronco away or yeah it's
- 8:05Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 8:06Speaker 7: I'm glad I don't have to watch the game. I'm
- 8:08Speaker 7: in the game.
- 8:08Speaker 4: So yeah, I hear. I hear a lot that that
- 8:11Speaker 4: I'm on the commercials a lot.
- 8:12Speaker 2: And I'll tell you what, though, that Bronco they give
- 8:14Speaker 2: you is nice. I've seen it.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I don't know about the ones over the last couple
- 8:17Speaker 1: of years, but the one that you had when I
- 8:18Speaker 1: was there was really nice.
- 8:21Speaker 2: What's the vibe been like with Walt you know you
- 8:23Speaker 2: man in the ship now?
- 8:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been good. He's energized, he's ready to win.
- 8:28Speaker 4: He gave us our first meeting. He gave us as
- 8:30Speaker 4: rational kind of video to go off of to to
- 8:33Speaker 4: kind of using our careers in our in our everyday life.
- 8:36Speaker 4: So he's ready to go to war, and we're ready
- 8:39Speaker 4: to be his soldiers to go with him.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Was it a was it like a movie quote or
- 8:43Speaker 1: was it like a thing that he kind of put together,
- 8:45Speaker 1: what kind of what kind of you know, video?
- 8:48Speaker 7: Was just it was a UFC fighter.
- 8:50Speaker 4: I forgot his name, but he was he was like
- 8:54Speaker 4: the number one fighter at the time, and he was
- 8:56Speaker 4: going against a guy that he was supposed to be
- 8:58Speaker 4: but he was immensely prepared because maybe he thought he
- 9:02Speaker 4: was gonna he was gonna automatically beat him. And he
- 9:05Speaker 4: said that he told himself in the mirror that he
- 9:07Speaker 4: wasn't he wasn't ready right before he went out, and
- 9:08Speaker 4: he ended up.
- 9:09Speaker 7: Ended up losing.
- 9:11Speaker 4: He took that, he took that with him, came back
- 9:13Speaker 4: and front the same dude again, and it was kind
- 9:15Speaker 4: of like a massacre. So, uh, it was It was
- 9:18Speaker 4: basically the message was, I guess be ready if you're
- 9:23Speaker 4: If you're not ready, you're not going to conquer the moment.
- 9:25Speaker 4: So just prepare, Just prepare for every moment to be
- 9:28Speaker 4: the best.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Yeah, just just sitting here hearing that message kind of
- 9:31Speaker 1: almost makes me want to get out of this chair
- 9:33Speaker 1: and go back and play but I'm pretty comfortable here obviously,
- 9:38Speaker 1: AO or the NL East Juggernaut. You know, obviously a
- 9:43Speaker 1: tough year last year, first time you guys missed the
- 9:45Speaker 1: playoffs in you know, the last eight years, you.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Know, extra motivation going into this season.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, I never wanted to ever miss the
- 9:54Speaker 4: playoffs in my career, but that's just the way last
- 9:57Speaker 4: year went. And uh, we're kind of do everything to
- 10:00Speaker 4: do everything right now to not be in that position again.
- 10:03Speaker 4: You don't know, you don't know how the season goes.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Baseball is such a crazy, crazy sport and when you
- 10:07Speaker 4: play one hundred sixty two games, so much can happen.
- 10:09Speaker 4: So just being able to be here and try to
- 10:13Speaker 4: prepare with the new guys that we have and the
- 10:15Speaker 4: coaching stuff is it is kind of who were prepared
- 10:18Speaker 4: to do to not do what we did last year.
- 10:21Speaker 6: Hey, when you guys were going through that last year,
- 10:25Speaker 6: how difficult was it because you've in your career never
- 10:27Speaker 6: experienced that at all. So you end up late in
- 10:30Speaker 6: the season essentially playing games that don't mean anything because
- 10:35Speaker 6: the team was either eliminated or close to being eliminated
- 10:39Speaker 6: over that past month or so.
- 10:44Speaker 4: It was kind of crazy. The vibes weren't different in
- 10:47Speaker 4: the clubhouse. Everybody was still lighthearted, still the same guys.
- 10:51Speaker 4: It just when we got to the game and got
- 10:54Speaker 4: in certain situations, it just didn't go our way. And
- 10:58Speaker 4: it's one of those things you couldn't rely put your
- 11:00Speaker 4: finger on what was going wrong or what was really happening.
- 11:03Speaker 4: But at one point our whole rotation was gone. They
- 11:07Speaker 4: were dealing too when it happened, So I kind of
- 11:10Speaker 4: took a hit on us. We weren't really performing as
- 11:12Speaker 4: well on offense. That kind of went on top of that.
- 11:15Speaker 4: So yeah, it was it was a weird year, but
- 11:19Speaker 4: I wouldn't say our vibes changed or the way we were,
- 11:22Speaker 4: so we just didn't execute the way we should have.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I know you guys had an extremely tough start to
- 11:29Speaker 1: the season last year, the West Coast road trip, the
- 11:32Speaker 1: teams you played, obviously, I think you guys were nine
- 11:34Speaker 1: to start the year and seven to start the year.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Do you believe you guys will kind of approach the
- 11:39Speaker 1: end of spring training a little bit differently once you
- 11:42Speaker 1: know your WBC guys get back, maybe last couple of games, like, hey,
- 11:46Speaker 1: let's treat these a little bit like games, let's get
- 11:48Speaker 1: that good competitive juice going. So you go into the
- 11:51Speaker 1: season a little bit more prepared than last year, or
- 11:53Speaker 1: is it just a tough start to the season last year.
- 11:57Speaker 7: I think it was just a tough start.
- 11:58Speaker 4: I feel like we prepared the right way last year
- 12:01Speaker 4: just didn't happen to fall in place for US two
- 12:04Speaker 4: tough teams obviously the World Series champion the first second series,
- 12:09Speaker 4: but didn't plan the padres. I feel like it was
- 12:13Speaker 4: just as good as them going into it.
- 12:15Speaker 7: We just didn't. We just didn't pull out a win.
- 12:17Speaker 7: But can't be used as an excuse.
- 12:21Speaker 4: We just never found our way back after that and
- 12:23Speaker 4: kind of hurt us.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Hey, so when things don't go right the online world,
- 12:30Speaker 6: Michael just wants to find something right.
- 12:32Speaker 5: Like you said, Hey, it's hard to find it.
- 12:34Speaker 6: I will make the case that not having a lot
- 12:37Speaker 6: of the rotation in tact is pretty challenging as well
- 12:40Speaker 6: when you look back last year. But there was one
- 12:43Speaker 6: narrative that carried for a little bit about how, hey,
- 12:45Speaker 6: a lot of these guys are an extension, so maybe
- 12:47Speaker 6: they're not as hungry, Like, how do you defend that
- 12:49Speaker 6: because most of the time fans are rooting for what
- 12:53Speaker 6: you guys have. Hey, get extensions done, so you got
- 12:56Speaker 6: the same core for a while. Fans can buy the jerseys,
- 12:59Speaker 6: they can follow the stars, they stay with the team.
- 13:01Speaker 6: So what's kind of the pushback for people that say that,
- 13:05Speaker 6: because because you're one of them, right, you signed an
- 13:07Speaker 6: extension earlier on in your career, and can you speak
- 13:10Speaker 6: to how motivated you are every day?
- 13:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I've I've never really understood why people think because
- 13:18Speaker 4: players are paid and have an extension that they're just
- 13:20Speaker 4: they're just kind of coming in every day, going through
- 13:23Speaker 4: the motions and not really caring about the results. I
- 13:25Speaker 4: feel like it makes you even more hungry because there's
- 13:27Speaker 4: more expectations for you and you. I feel like everybody
- 13:30Speaker 4: wants to be the best. So yeah, I never I
- 13:33Speaker 4: never understood why why people think that we think that way.
- 13:36Speaker 4: But I think that's what makes lasher so much tougher
- 13:40Speaker 4: because we have so many people that are extended and
- 13:42Speaker 4: we didn't have the seasons that we are kind of
- 13:45Speaker 4: supposed to have.
- 13:48Speaker 9: Hey, Michael, give me your best Chris Sale story. I
- 13:54Speaker 9: know he's done something crazy in that clubouse, so you
- 13:56Speaker 9: got to give me something.
- 13:57Speaker 8: I know he said something or done something.
- 13:59Speaker 7: He's done something crazy. Oh I don't know, or you just.
- 14:05Speaker 5: Don't talk to give him context because you play playing.
- 14:08Speaker 7: I talked to the I'm not around him as much.
- 14:13Speaker 9: I played with Chris James came up, so I've known
- 14:15Speaker 9: him since twenty ten.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Okay, AJ, How scared would you be if you hit
- 14:19Speaker 1: that samurai sword he can sale?
- 14:23Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 14:23Speaker 2: You see that Samurai sword that Mizuno gave him.
- 14:26Speaker 9: Yeah, No, he's not getting he's not getting within twenty
- 14:28Speaker 9: feet of me or my family, especially even the uniforms
- 14:31Speaker 9: for that.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Matter, does even know that? Like Michael so Young?
- 14:36Speaker 9: Does you know that Chrystal chopped up the uniforms? You've
- 14:39Speaker 9: heard that story, right?
- 14:40Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah he told us about that too.
- 14:42Speaker 4: So yeah, that's probably his craziest story.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Not yeah, yeah, he's on his best behavior now he's matured.
- 14:51Speaker 9: Yeah, Chris is matured.
- 14:54Speaker 8: Now that's good.
- 14:57Speaker 6: I got one more last one for me. How do
- 15:00Speaker 6: you preserve your body playing center field? We see some
- 15:04Speaker 6: guys able to carry it deep into their career. Actually,
- 15:06Speaker 6: it's a perfect question with both of you sitting there right.
- 15:09Speaker 6: Kp able to do it, you know, deep into his thirties, Like,
- 15:13Speaker 6: how do you do it? Are you thinking about that, like, Hey,
- 15:15Speaker 6: I want to I want to play this position for
- 15:17Speaker 6: a long time, longer than most do. And what can
- 15:19Speaker 6: you do to make that happen?
- 15:22Speaker 4: I think it all depends on the person, the player.
- 15:25Speaker 4: You just got to find a routine that works for
- 15:27Speaker 4: you and it makes you feel good going into a game.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Last year, I was able to stay healthy when I
- 15:32Speaker 4: played one hundred and sixty games, So I don't know
- 15:37Speaker 4: exactly what changed, but well, I think I did find
- 15:40Speaker 4: a routine that really worked for me, and just going
- 15:42Speaker 4: out there every day to feel my best. Recovering the
- 15:46Speaker 4: right way may can sure dem hydrated. So it all
- 15:50Speaker 4: depends on the player and what works for you.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean right on that topic, it's perfect time
- 15:56Speaker 1: to let them get out of here, because part is

- 17:28Speaker 1: Cooking here at Braves Camp with one of my favorite
- 17:39Speaker 1: teamates of all time, probably the most consistent guy in
- 17:42Speaker 1: baseball right now, Matt Olson, thanks for joining us. My
- 17:47Speaker 1: first question series question, how thankful I'm trying to think
- 17:51Speaker 1: your playing first base would be your left ear right?
- 17:53Speaker 1: How thankful are you that Ozzie's out of here right
- 17:55Speaker 1: now and you don't have to hear him chirpin all
- 17:57Speaker 1: day every day.
- 17:58Speaker 8: It's weird.
- 17:59Speaker 10: I thought I would like it, but you know, I
- 18:01Speaker 10: find myself missing some constant chatter out there.
- 18:05Speaker 1: It's weird too because it comes from a much different angle,
- 18:08Speaker 1: you know. It's kind of like from down here up
- 18:10Speaker 1: to your to your ear.
- 18:11Speaker 10: I don't do this to me. I already blast him enough.
- 18:14Speaker 10: I don't need extra take out there. He's gonna be upset.
- 18:18Speaker 6: Wait for the national audience though, Like how much talking
- 18:21Speaker 6: goes on it? Is he the most talkative teammate on
- 18:23Speaker 6: the team? And and is he funny?
- 18:25Speaker 5: Like? What what is the banter going on there from Ozzie.
- 18:28Speaker 6: We've had him on the show a couple of times,
- 18:29Speaker 6: but to give a glimpse from a teammate.
- 18:31Speaker 10: Yeah, he's he's the guy that's always talking, you know,
- 18:35Speaker 10: he's he's the English and Spanish guy, so he's he's
- 18:39Speaker 10: the one in the.
- 18:39Speaker 8: Middle, just stirring the pot for everybody.
- 18:43Speaker 10: We we always hit him with some some short jokes
- 18:47Speaker 10: unfortunately for him, but he loves it and he drops
- 18:51Speaker 10: it right back to us.
- 18:53Speaker 5: I love it.
- 18:54Speaker 6: Hey, Matt, are you watching the WBC closely? Like are
- 18:56Speaker 6: you checking out all the games the last four or
- 18:58Speaker 6: five days?
- 19:00Speaker 8: Yeah, I've been watching him. You know.
- 19:03Speaker 10: Some of the weird times, I haven't seen some stuff,
- 19:05Speaker 10: but I've always been seeing clips.
- 19:07Speaker 8: Obviously Ozzie's Homer. The other day actually we.
- 19:10Speaker 10: Came right out of the game and as we were
- 19:12Speaker 10: walking in I saw it live.
- 19:15Speaker 8: So it was a it was a sick at that
- 19:17Speaker 8: cool moment for him.
- 19:19Speaker 10: And uh, you know we talked to him and and
- 19:22Speaker 10: I told him congrats.
- 19:24Speaker 2: So, I mean, I've been in this clubhouse.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I know how tight you and Austin are, how you
- 19:29Speaker 1: guys do a lot of things together. Is there anything
- 19:31Speaker 1: that you could kind of teach him or I know
- 19:34Speaker 1: you've probably tried to teach him, but is there anything
- 19:36Speaker 1: that you could kind of share with him too that's
- 19:38Speaker 1: allowed you to be so consistent on the field.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Obviously he's had some injuries over the last couple of.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Years, because when you two were out there, I mean,
- 19:45Speaker 1: arguably the best corner in baseball.
- 19:51Speaker 10: You know, Rouse is pretty good about his stuff. It's
- 19:53Speaker 10: it's not any secret pill I got. You know, I
- 19:58Speaker 10: say that playing first base is a lot of what allows.
- 20:02Speaker 8: Me to be on the field. You know.
- 20:04Speaker 10: Two years ago he got hit in the hand with
- 20:06Speaker 10: a ninety eight mine hour sinker and missed some time.
- 20:09Speaker 10: And last year the hernia stuff, it's something you tried
- 20:12Speaker 10: to get through and just you know, came back out
- 20:15Speaker 10: and couldn't do it. Had to get it, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 10: surgically repaired. But when when that guy's on the field,
- 20:21Speaker 10: he's he's one of the best in the game on
- 20:24Speaker 10: all all sides of the ball. He can you know,
- 20:26Speaker 10: he can run, he can hit, he can field. He's
- 20:29Speaker 10: just a special talent. And you know, I always forget
- 20:33Speaker 10: how how much younger than me he is. He's been
- 20:36Speaker 10: doing it for so long that you know, and he's
- 20:39Speaker 10: such a mature guy that he feels like, you know,
- 20:41Speaker 10: somebody around my age, but still a younger guy and
- 20:45Speaker 10: a lot left.
- 20:45Speaker 8: To do in this league.
- 20:48Speaker 9: Man, you mentioned wanting to play. Dude, you're going for
- 20:51Speaker 9: Kyle Ripkins streak here. You've got four straight years, one
- 20:53Speaker 9: hundred and sixty two. You only have like fifteen more
- 20:56Speaker 9: years to go. You think you're gonna make it.
- 20:58Speaker 10: Yeah, I think I'm gonna be on a golf course
- 21:00Speaker 10: somewhere by the time that it get gets close at all.
- 21:06Speaker 10: It is kind of crazy. It puts it into his
- 21:09Speaker 10: streak and the perspective a little bit. You know, I
- 21:11Speaker 10: feel like I've been out there every day for a
- 21:14Speaker 10: while and I'm not even sniffing him.
- 21:18Speaker 1: How was the golf game, by the way, Because I've
- 21:19Speaker 1: been out there with you, and.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I mean there's some moments.
- 21:25Speaker 8: I show flashes.
- 21:26Speaker 10: It's enough to keep me coming back pop a eighty
- 21:30Speaker 10: one day and then a ninety five the next.
- 21:34Speaker 1: You know, obviously new manager here, familiar face. What's it
- 21:37Speaker 1: been like with what being the head of this ship?
- 21:41Speaker 1: And has it been any different than you thought it
- 21:43Speaker 1: would be?
- 21:45Speaker 2: No, Walt's been great.
- 21:46Speaker 10: I mean, you know, Walt from being here but just
- 21:50Speaker 10: all time guy, you know, somebody who's obviously grew up
- 21:55Speaker 10: in kind of that older school era, but you know,
- 21:58Speaker 10: he's got sons who were playing now, so he understands
- 22:02Speaker 10: kind of the newer stuff and you know, just the
- 22:05Speaker 10: proper blend between the two.
- 22:07Speaker 8: I think, you know, he says it great.
- 22:09Speaker 10: He talks about it, you know, the analytics and the
- 22:13Speaker 10: and the video and all that stuff being tools. But
- 22:15Speaker 10: when it's time to go play, you go play. And
- 22:19Speaker 10: you know.
- 22:19Speaker 8: I just love Walt's relationship with everybody.
- 22:23Speaker 10: And you know, he's he played, he was he was
- 22:27Speaker 10: a grinder when he played. He was, you know, intense dude,
- 22:30Speaker 10: and I think that he's going to bring a little
- 22:33Speaker 10: a little edge to us.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, being around you, being your teammate, I know how
- 22:37Speaker 1: much you take pride in knowing the strike zone, and
- 22:40Speaker 1: I know how frustrating it could be sometimes when you
- 22:44Speaker 1: feel like you're right. And obviously the umpires have a
- 22:46Speaker 1: difficult job to do. But how do you like the
- 22:49Speaker 1: ABS system and how do you feel like you're going
- 22:51Speaker 1: to implement it this year?
- 22:53Speaker 5: Uh?
- 22:53Speaker 8: Yeah, it's been good. You know.
- 22:55Speaker 10: I I won one, my only challenge one. It was
- 23:01Speaker 10: really close and probably shouldn't do that during the season.
- 23:06Speaker 10: I'm still trying to kind of get a feel for it.
- 23:09Speaker 10: Got punched out on one the other day, so uh,
- 23:13Speaker 10: that was a little difficult to sit there waiting to
- 23:16Speaker 10: see if I'm gonna walk back to the dig out.
- 23:18Speaker 8: But I think it's good.
- 23:19Speaker 10: I think once we get into the swing things, it's
- 23:21Speaker 10: just gonna take away the big misses. You know, there's
- 23:24Speaker 10: gonna be guys that challenge stuff and they're gonna get
- 23:25Speaker 10: it wrong. But I feel like, you know, you only
- 23:28Speaker 10: get two. They're so important that guys are gonna put
- 23:31Speaker 10: it in their pocket if it's a Boerline pitch and
- 23:35Speaker 10: like I said, kind of just take away the big misses.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Has there been a conversation yet about how you guys
- 23:39Speaker 1: are gonna use them? Is that a conversation you have
- 23:41Speaker 1: with you know, you're hitting coaches, Walt, you know, do
- 23:45Speaker 1: you guys sit down as offense and go these are
- 23:47Speaker 1: the times we use it? Or is it something where
- 23:50Speaker 1: you feel like you're gonna get freedom until baby Ronald
- 23:53Speaker 1: uses it the first pitch of the game.
- 23:54Speaker 2: You're like, okay, come.
- 23:55Speaker 10: On, Ronald, No, I mean we haven't had a you know,
- 24:02Speaker 10: sit down and clear, clear cut what we're going to do.
- 24:05Speaker 10: I think for now it's like err on the side
- 24:08Speaker 10: of you know, just going for it if you feel it,
- 24:12Speaker 10: to kind of get a feel for it. I'm sure
- 24:13Speaker 10: at some point we'll kind of figure out the you know,
- 24:16Speaker 10: if we want to have any strategy involved with it.
- 24:20Speaker 10: You know, I'm sure probably here. And I would guess
- 24:24Speaker 10: around the league that a lot of pictures won't have
- 24:28Speaker 10: you know, as much freedom with it. I think most
- 24:31Speaker 10: pictures that I've talked to want to leave it in
- 24:33Speaker 10: the hands of the catcher. As far as us at
- 24:35Speaker 10: the plate, I think we're just kind of get a
- 24:39Speaker 10: little feel for it, and uh, you know, I think
- 24:43Speaker 10: some guys are going to be good, some guys are
- 24:45Speaker 10: going to be bad, and you know, you might lose
- 24:47Speaker 10: your privileges if you get a couple of.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Mine would be taken immediately immediately.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I had a bad feel for the strike zone.
- 24:56Speaker 6: Stats on that too. I mean you saw it right.
- 25:00Speaker 6: I mean they've got the stats downs stack Cast has
- 25:02Speaker 6: it up, you know, for every player, So eventually you
- 25:05Speaker 6: guys will be able to make fun of each other
- 25:06Speaker 6: on that one too, and also make real strategic decisions.
- 25:10Speaker 5: Seriously, is allowed to use it and not?
- 25:12Speaker 8: Yeah, tie somebody's hand behind their back.
- 25:15Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly did you see by the way the Brewers
- 25:19Speaker 6: and how they were trying to get the signals going,
- 25:21Speaker 6: And then like a day later, the league was like, not,
- 25:23Speaker 6: we're not doing that. We're not doing the dugout signals.
- 25:26Speaker 8: Oh no, I didn't see that.
- 25:28Speaker 5: You saw right, You guys didn't see this, KP. You
- 25:31Speaker 5: didn't see this either.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I think I saw something on I think there was
- 25:35Speaker 1: like where they.
- 25:35Speaker 9: Were like reder blue cards cards.
- 25:38Speaker 6: They had cards, and the league said no, how quick
- 25:41Speaker 6: did they have to be with the cards?
- 25:42Speaker 5: I don't know. It was so the whole situation was
- 25:45Speaker 5: so quick.
- 25:45Speaker 6: And I didn't watch the game, but I did see
- 25:47Speaker 6: a story a day later that said they are not
- 25:49Speaker 6: allowed to do that.
- 25:50Speaker 5: No, no signaling of any kind.
- 25:52Speaker 6: I think during AB Matt or even just they were
- 25:56Speaker 6: putting stuff up for scenarios like, hey, we don't want
- 26:00Speaker 6: you to do this.
- 26:01Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 26:01Speaker 6: Maybe entering the AB they look at the dugout to
- 26:03Speaker 6: see I don't know, but of course green card up
- 26:06Speaker 6: meant it was an okay time to challenge getting the
- 26:09Speaker 6: slab as we go here, and the league was like,
- 26:12Speaker 6: no cards from the dugout. We're not doing like you
- 26:14Speaker 6: know Audible's football style with signals.
- 26:18Speaker 5: So our good thing. You guys didn't even talk about
- 26:20Speaker 5: that out there? What is that?
- 26:23Speaker 1: Our teams hiring those guys because I'm available sitting the
- 26:25Speaker 1: dugout and hold of green or yellow card.
- 26:28Speaker 6: But you said you weren't good enough at it, so
- 26:30Speaker 6: they need somebody. They're gonna bring somebody.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I could tell you it's a good time to challenge.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I'm not going to tell you if the ball or strike,
- 26:35Speaker 1: but I'll tell you it's.
- 26:36Speaker 9: A good time to go.
- 26:37Speaker 8: Matt.
- 26:38Speaker 9: Hey, Matt, what happens if you guys run out of challenges?
- 26:41Speaker 9: You think the umpire will be like, you know what'
- 26:42Speaker 9: screw these guys. They messed up twice. I'm just going
- 26:45Speaker 9: to widen the strike zone. We're gonna go back like
- 26:47Speaker 9: it used to be.
- 26:49Speaker 10: I mean, i'd be lying if I said it didn't
- 26:52Speaker 10: cross my mind.
- 26:56Speaker 8: You know, maybe if we.
- 27:00Speaker 10: Challenge a couple just egregious ones that they got right
- 27:04Speaker 10: in the first two innings and he wants to stick
- 27:06Speaker 10: it to us for the next seven, I don't know,
- 27:09Speaker 10: you know, don't. I don't actually think that they're going
- 27:12Speaker 10: to be doing that, but.
- 27:14Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 27:15Speaker 10: Hopefully we don't, we don't run into some of those
- 27:18Speaker 10: old school zones that you were getting when you were
- 27:21Speaker 10: first up.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Oh yeahah, it was.
- 27:24Speaker 8: A little different.
- 27:24Speaker 9: It was a little bit different. We didn't have the
- 27:26Speaker 9: little box and we didn't have any It was literally
- 27:29Speaker 9: the umpire would just say, hey, like, my hands are
- 27:31Speaker 9: this wide. I'm calling this white today.
- 27:33Speaker 11: Right.
- 27:34Speaker 9: There was no box and there was no we didn't
- 27:36Speaker 9: get reports on the umpire. It was like this guy
- 27:39Speaker 9: has a big zone or this guy has a small zone.
- 27:41Speaker 9: And first inning you figured it out and say, better
- 27:44Speaker 9: swing today, boys, because they would tell you. The umpires
- 27:46Speaker 9: would tell you. They'd say, hey, it's a day game.
- 27:48Speaker 9: I have an early dinner or early flight swing because
- 27:52Speaker 9: I'm calling everything and they called everything.
- 27:55Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Hey, at this point in time in your career, you
- 27:59Speaker 1: get down here for spring training, what are the things
- 28:00Speaker 1: that you kind of want to accomplish? Do you know
- 28:02Speaker 1: how many at bats you want to take or to
- 28:05Speaker 1: just kind of experience the first things I get the
- 28:07Speaker 1: two strikes, maybe you know, drive a ball, you know,
- 28:11Speaker 1: hit a ball the opposite way, and then you're kind
- 28:12Speaker 1: of like, hey, let me just got it here healthy.
- 28:16Speaker 10: I think the the later I've gotten in my career,
- 28:18Speaker 10: the more that I try to get as many at
- 28:20Speaker 10: bats as I can. I feel like the kind of
- 28:23Speaker 10: like the forty to fifty numbers is kind of the
- 28:25Speaker 10: sweet spot.
- 28:26Speaker 8: Obviously, don't want to go.
- 28:27Speaker 10: Just blow it out for nine innings every game with
- 28:30Speaker 10: the season coming up, but you know, luckily we get
- 28:35Speaker 10: live abs before the games actually start.
- 28:38Speaker 8: We got to troject up now, so.
- 28:41Speaker 10: You know, there's never been an easier time to kind
- 28:43Speaker 10: of get at bats without getting into the hole, you know,
- 28:48Speaker 10: playing so much every single day, but it's the most
- 28:52Speaker 10: important thing is always going to be getting at bats,
- 28:55Speaker 10: seeing pitching, seeing arms. I wouldn't say there's one thing
- 28:59Speaker 10: that you know, if I do it, I'm like, all right,
- 29:01Speaker 10: I'm good to go, just because each each day is
- 29:05Speaker 10: so different. But you know, staying healthy and getting that
- 29:10Speaker 10: bats is are the two main checkpoints.
- 29:14Speaker 6: Hey, Matt, last one I have for you. I gotta
- 29:16Speaker 6: do my classic ace question, but it's a fun.
- 29:19Speaker 5: One for you.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Have you seen them handing out extensions left and right?
- 29:23Speaker 6: Things have changed, I mean for Sacramento, eventually Vegas. They
- 29:28Speaker 6: they've locked up like three four guys and there might
- 29:30Speaker 6: be one or two more. But by the time we
- 29:32Speaker 6: get the opening day, you're like, damn, where was that.
- 29:35Speaker 10: Yeah, I got a new stadium coming. Gotta gotta have
- 29:37Speaker 10: somebody there, you know.
- 29:40Speaker 6: Yeah, you see, I mean there's a lot of guys,
- 29:42Speaker 6: and I'm saying guys that are just five seconds into
- 29:44Speaker 6: the banks too. You saw, like Jack Jack Wilson I
- 29:48Speaker 6: left and right, there are Jacob Wilson, Jack's kid, left
- 29:51Speaker 6: and right.
- 29:51Speaker 5: They're signing guys early, and Nick Kurtz might be next.
- 29:54Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, they got it. They got a good core,
- 29:56Speaker 8: good young core there. You know. I think it's good
- 29:59Speaker 8: to see that.
- 30:02Speaker 3: You know.
- 30:02Speaker 10: I think they're all probably you'd classify as team friendly deals.
- 30:08Speaker 8: You know. It's young guys getting some.
- 30:13Speaker 10: You know, some comfortability with a with a deal before
- 30:16Speaker 10: they get too old, and the team's you know, kind
- 30:18Speaker 10: of taking a chance and saying I might be able
- 30:21Speaker 10: to save some money. So I think it's a win
- 30:22Speaker 10: win for him. I think it's good that, you know,
- 30:25Speaker 10: they're they're going to have some guys there, you know,
- 30:29Speaker 10: for multiple years. Obviously we know the turnover there, so
- 30:33Speaker 10: you know those guys have earned it, and you know,
- 30:37Speaker 10: happy for the guys who are you know, getting getting that.
- 30:40Speaker 10: Uh you know those deals and and some some assurance.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Last one, yeah, rightly worked out for you.
- 30:52Speaker 9: You wouldn't change exactly at home where you're from.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Contract.
- 31:01Speaker 8: Oh, I got no complaints.
- 31:02Speaker 9: He's got no complaints.
- 31:03Speaker 11: He's living at home. He's only got to he's only
- 31:05Speaker 11: got to pack one time a year. It's probably costing him.
- 31:09Speaker 11: It's probably costing him money and tickets though, because I'm
- 31:11Speaker 11: sure every park view what is it parkview panther wants
- 31:13Speaker 11: to come watch you play.
- 31:14Speaker 9: All the time.
- 31:15Speaker 10: They've actually been They've actually been pretty good to me.
- 31:19Speaker 10: You know, most people were Braves fans before me, so
- 31:23Speaker 10: they found their way to the true at themselves.
- 31:26Speaker 2: So yeah, last one for me.
- 31:29Speaker 1: I'm just gonna ask you about traject how much you
- 31:32Speaker 1: use it? How much do you feel like it's kind
- 31:34Speaker 1: of I feel like pitching has always been ahead of
- 31:38Speaker 1: hitting in terms of the technology that they had. Do
- 31:40Speaker 1: you feel like it's kind of closed that gap a
- 31:42Speaker 1: little bit allowed the hitter to prepare for the picture
- 31:45Speaker 1: even more.
- 31:46Speaker 8: I mean, I love it.
- 31:48Speaker 10: We got it halfway through last year and just the
- 31:52Speaker 10: ability to go see some shape from the guy. You know,
- 31:54Speaker 10: it's uh, you can go in there and hit the
- 31:58Speaker 10: machine all you want, you know, if your face and
- 32:00Speaker 10: somebody with a nasty breaking ball or and obviously true
- 32:04Speaker 10: Jack's gonna have a little variability to it. It's not perfect,
- 32:07Speaker 10: but you can go in there and hit all his
- 32:10Speaker 10: pitches and then you know, step out and say, all right,
- 32:13Speaker 10: pitch me like you think they're going to pitch me
- 32:15Speaker 10: today and take an ad bat. And I love doing it,
- 32:19Speaker 10: you know, especially now to be able to kind of
- 32:22Speaker 10: get some at bats off guys on days you're not playing,
- 32:26Speaker 10: and you know people are going to face during the season,
- 32:30Speaker 10: but then during the year going and hitting the cage
- 32:32Speaker 10: and then face that guy for you know, see thirty
- 32:36Speaker 10: pitches off of him before you.
- 32:37Speaker 8: Actually go face him. You know, I think it's invaluable.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Well, I can't thank you enough for coming on.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I think this is your foul Territory debut.
- 32:50Speaker 2: No not, if not, you've been on before, I've been
- 32:52Speaker 2: on before. Oh well the first time with me, but last.
- 32:55Speaker 9: Time he came on, he was in like a broom
- 32:57Speaker 9: closet through So we're very we're very happy.
- 32:59Speaker 5: We got him out of.
- 33:00Speaker 8: We got we got an official setup for once. Yeah, yeah,
- 33:03Speaker 8: set up.
- 33:04Speaker 1: And by the way, this guy's cooking me dinner after
- 33:06Speaker 1: the game today, so I'm gonna report back by his
- 33:09Speaker 1: uh his cooking skills too.
- 33:12Speaker 5: Good luck, Matt. What are you making.
- 33:15Speaker 10: We're just gonna we're gonna make a little tacos, got
- 33:17Speaker 10: some some steak, Mary Nathan, some chicken. There's gonna be
- 33:22Speaker 10: like eight kids running around, so we're not gonna get
- 33:25Speaker 10: too fancy with it.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yeah, kid friendly, kid friendly.
- 33:28Speaker 6: Good good, Well, we appreciate you, Matt, Thank you so
- 33:30Speaker 6: much for joining us. Good luck this season, we'll be talking.
- 33:34Speaker 8: Thanks Philos.
- 33:36Speaker 7: M hm h mhm.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Excited to be here in Braves camp with one of
- 33:51Speaker 1: my good friends, Austin Riley. I think this is your
- 33:54Speaker 1: foul to foul territory debut. I guess my first question
- 33:59Speaker 1: to you is you're healthy, and if so, what have
- 34:02Speaker 1: you really changed this offseason in order for you to
- 34:04Speaker 1: be healthy?
- 34:06Speaker 3: You know, it was.
- 34:06Speaker 12: Really just, you know, I'm not getting any younger, trying
- 34:09Speaker 12: to just you know, obviously with the sports hernea, it
- 34:13Speaker 12: was more about just like staying mobile, flexible, kind of
- 34:18Speaker 12: tailoring my workouts towards that with the lower abdomen injury.
- 34:23Speaker 3: But feel good, feel like I'm in a really good spot.
- 34:26Speaker 12: I was able to actually have you know, prior to
- 34:28Speaker 12: the year before, I broke my hand and was in
- 34:30Speaker 12: a cast for fourteen months or fourteen weeks and really
- 34:34Speaker 12: didn't have a full off season. So being able to
- 34:36Speaker 12: have like a true full off season kind of do
- 34:38Speaker 12: what I normally do to prep for spring and season
- 34:42Speaker 12: was nice.
- 34:44Speaker 6: All right, Austin, I'm gonna ask you a big picture question.
- 34:46Speaker 6: So for the Braves, they've had a really successful run,
- 34:49Speaker 6: teammates the playoffs every year except last year for a while.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Now they won the World Series in twenty twenty one.
- 34:55Speaker 6: Do you feel like the expectations for this franchise have
- 35:00Speaker 6: a crazy level because of the success that's happened like
- 35:04Speaker 6: last year. Of course, you don't want the team to
- 35:05Speaker 6: go through that, but yeah, you look at most franchises,
- 35:09Speaker 6: they don't have this kind of run and this kind
- 35:11Speaker 6: of expectations anymore.
- 35:13Speaker 12: No, I mean, I think it's it's a it's a
- 35:16Speaker 12: good spot to be in, right, you know, being able
- 35:19Speaker 12: to come in every year and expect to make a
- 35:22Speaker 12: deep run, and and you know, expect to win.
- 35:26Speaker 3: You know, I think you put yourself in a in
- 35:27Speaker 3: a good spot.
- 35:29Speaker 12: I think, you know the last couple of years with
- 35:32Speaker 12: with injuries and and then you know, not not performing.
- 35:35Speaker 3: You know, you know, I think it it.
- 35:39Speaker 12: I don't want to say it happens, but you know
- 35:41Speaker 12: it's this is a tough game, and you guys know
- 35:43Speaker 12: how tough it is and how so many things have
- 35:47Speaker 12: to go right for you to to to make a
- 35:50Speaker 12: deep run.
- 35:50Speaker 3: So no, I think it's it's a it's a great thing.
- 35:54Speaker 3: I think so. I mean, you know, we play the game.
- 35:57Speaker 12: To to try to win a World Series, and you
- 36:00Speaker 12: guys want to be on teams that that are going
- 36:03Speaker 12: to do that too, are going to make moves and
- 36:05Speaker 12: and do things to to try to win. So you know,
- 36:09Speaker 12: I'm I'm glad to be here and have that expectation
- 36:12Speaker 12: of of winning every year.
- 36:14Speaker 1: You know, speaking of expectations, you've got a new manager,
- 36:18Speaker 1: familiar face. What has kind of been his message? How
- 36:22Speaker 1: how have you seen it a little bit different? You know,
- 36:23Speaker 1: obviously I was here a couple of years ago with
- 36:26Speaker 1: with Snith Won't being part of his staff. You know,
- 36:28Speaker 1: what was kind of his first day camp message? How
- 36:31Speaker 1: things are going to be very similar but yet different.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:34Speaker 12: I think, you know, for me, the big thing with
- 36:37Speaker 12: with Walt is just the attention to detail that I
- 36:40Speaker 12: think he shows. And and you know this he understands,
- 36:44Speaker 12: you know, he's played the game, so he understands how
- 36:46Speaker 12: hard it is, and and you know, showing up every
- 36:50Speaker 12: day and and you know, the camp vibe this year
- 36:54Speaker 12: has been very you know, high energy, a lot going on,
- 37:01Speaker 12: which I think is has been great.
- 37:03Speaker 3: You know, just kind of a like I said, we
- 37:05Speaker 3: we we.
- 37:07Speaker 12: I feel like this organization knows how to win, and
- 37:11Speaker 12: I think after the last couple of years, you know,
- 37:13Speaker 12: just just to shake up a little bit, just like
- 37:15Speaker 12: bringing some guys in with a lot of energy, and
- 37:19Speaker 12: Walt's showing that.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Like I said, the camp has been great.
- 37:22Speaker 12: You know, he's he's very knowledgeable of the game and
- 37:25Speaker 12: and uh, I think it's been unbelievable so far.
- 37:27Speaker 6: From Hey, Austin when that was all going down, and
- 37:31Speaker 6: when we've spoken to Walton, and you know, even right
- 37:34Speaker 6: around when it happened when he was hired. It took
- 37:37Speaker 6: a little bit of time. Did you have any conversations
- 37:40Speaker 6: with Alex Anthoplos or anyone else. Did they consult with
- 37:43Speaker 6: some of the vets on just the process?
- 37:47Speaker 3: Did not know? Not not during the process.
- 37:49Speaker 12: Like I said, Alex has has asked me, you know,
- 37:54Speaker 12: just getting you know, asking us players about Walt, and
- 37:57Speaker 12: you know, like I said, nothing but good things to
- 37:59Speaker 12: to of, you know, touch on Walt.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Like I said, I you.
- 38:03Speaker 12: Know, I think there's two ways you could go until
- 38:05Speaker 12: you could stay in the house and you could you know,
- 38:07Speaker 12: gone outside and got somebody else.
- 38:08Speaker 3: And and for me, you know, if we were going
- 38:11Speaker 3: to stay inside, it it was it was Walt. For me,
- 38:13Speaker 3: I thought, I thought that was a no brainer.
- 38:17Speaker 5: How different is Walt from Snip, you.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Know Snip Snit's very you know, there's a lot of
- 38:28Speaker 3: similarities there. You know, He's gonna let you do your thing.
- 38:32Speaker 12: He trusts and his players of coming in in spring
- 38:34Speaker 12: training and preparing each and every day.
- 38:37Speaker 3: He's not gonna go out there and kill us.
- 38:39Speaker 7: Uh.
- 38:39Speaker 12: But like I said, I think that the energy level
- 38:42Speaker 12: of of we're doing some different things is as far
- 38:44Speaker 12: as like with the new staff also of just you know,
- 38:49Speaker 12: I think we you know, from us standpoint, we can
- 38:51Speaker 12: we can improve you know, base running. You know, we're
- 38:55Speaker 12: doing situational defensive stuff to just kind of hone in
- 38:58Speaker 12: on on those those in game plays that that you
- 39:03Speaker 12: don't you know, they happened one or once or twice
- 39:06Speaker 12: a year. So I think, just like I said that,
- 39:08Speaker 12: to me, that's been the biggest difference is is just
- 39:11Speaker 12: like I said, just the little stuff that you know,
- 39:14Speaker 12: you typically don't touch on, but you know, we're we're
- 39:16Speaker 12: we're making sure we're checking those boxes and making sure
- 39:18Speaker 12: that we're as prepared as as we can be for
- 39:21Speaker 12: for the season.
- 39:23Speaker 9: Austin, do you mess with Walt at all? Because you
- 39:25Speaker 9: know he's like a quadruple black jiu jitsu right now?
- 39:29Speaker 9: Do you stay far away from him?
- 39:33Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 39:33Speaker 3: I can't. I keep the peace for sure.
- 39:36Speaker 12: You know, I tell you if if we get into
- 39:38Speaker 12: into something during the season, I'll be I'll be right
- 39:41Speaker 12: there behind him or next to him, because I would
- 39:44Speaker 12: not want to mess with him.
- 39:45Speaker 3: I see. I've seen his workouts in the gym. He
- 39:48Speaker 3: gets after it pretty good.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Hey, I've seen things Walt talks about for a long time.
- 39:54Speaker 1: The Braves Way has been playing one hundred and sixty
- 39:56Speaker 1: two games, and obviously you have Olson who's been able
- 39:58Speaker 1: to do it. Is that something you're open to if
- 40:00Speaker 1: you feel like it's something that's going to keep you healthy.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Maybe taking an occasional day off. Where do you still
- 40:05Speaker 1: have this mindset of I want to play one sixty two.
- 40:08Speaker 12: You know, for me, I think I would, you know,
- 40:11Speaker 12: I'm okay if they if they decide to give me
- 40:14Speaker 12: a day or two here and there at the DH.
- 40:17Speaker 12: You know, I just coming off the last couple of
- 40:19Speaker 12: years with injuries. But the mindset and the goal and
- 40:22Speaker 12: the preparation of how I've done everything leading up to
- 40:25Speaker 12: this point, it's to play one hundred and sixty two.
- 40:28Speaker 3: I think that's just, to me, the only way to
- 40:31Speaker 3: do it.
- 40:31Speaker 12: I think if you're preparing to play one hundred and
- 40:33Speaker 12: ten games or one hundred and twenty, like I think,
- 40:35Speaker 12: you're kind of setting yourself up for not failure, but
- 40:38Speaker 12: just you know, not prepared enough. I think, like I said,
- 40:41Speaker 12: you've got to prepare for one hundred and sixty two games,
- 40:45Speaker 12: and we'll see how the season goes. But like I said,
- 40:47Speaker 12: right now, my body feels feels really good. And and
- 40:52Speaker 12: you know, in twenty one, two twenty three played right
- 40:54Speaker 12: around one hundred and sixty two, so kind of kind
- 40:56Speaker 12: of I personally want to get back to that.
- 40:58Speaker 1: And then that obviously some of the moves that have happened,
- 41:01Speaker 1: and not bringing back a guy like Azuna. Yeah, you know,
- 41:05Speaker 1: with Murphy being hurt, the d H is obviously, uh
- 41:08Speaker 1: you kind of be a rotated doer that's just gonna
- 41:11Speaker 1: give the opportunity to go date some days.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 41:14Speaker 12: And like I said, you think Murphy you take you know,
- 41:16Speaker 12: I think it would be really good for Ronald, like
- 41:18Speaker 12: I said, with with the with the knee, the knee
- 41:20Speaker 12: injuries and and how hard he plays when when he's
- 41:23Speaker 12: out there, you know, you definitely want his bat in
- 41:26Speaker 12: the in the in the lineup every day. But like
- 41:29Speaker 12: I said, if that's something that you give him, you know,
- 41:31Speaker 12: get him off his feed a little bit on everybody
- 41:34Speaker 12: knows how hot you know of eleven thirty July game
- 41:39Speaker 12: in Atlanta can be. So I think that that, like
- 41:42Speaker 12: I said, leaving that open a little bit for for
- 41:44Speaker 12: those you know that those guys I think will be
- 41:47Speaker 12: will be good for us.
- 41:49Speaker 6: Hey, Austin, what is your level of dislike for your
- 41:53Speaker 6: divisional opponents, especially some of the rivals that you guys
- 41:56Speaker 6: have gone back and forth with I'm always curious. Like
- 41:58Speaker 6: last year is a good example because, like we talked about,
- 42:00Speaker 6: it was finally a year the team didn't make the playoffs.
- 42:02Speaker 6: So were you like, haha when say the Mets collapsed
- 42:06Speaker 6: late or you.
- 42:07Speaker 5: Know, like how deep does it go? Do you want
- 42:09Speaker 5: them to not succeed at all?
- 42:11Speaker 6: Because some guys have to do that for that to
- 42:13Speaker 6: be in their head that like, hey, I face these
- 42:15Speaker 6: guys all the time.
- 42:16Speaker 5: I live for them losing.
- 42:18Speaker 12: No, I mean, you know, being in a division, yeah,
- 42:22Speaker 12: I don't don't don't want them to win for sure.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I mean I think that that's that's the obvious. You know.
- 42:26Speaker 12: I definitely want to be the team that that wins
- 42:29Speaker 12: the division and and and want.
- 42:32Speaker 3: To beat them every time we play them. I mean,
- 42:34Speaker 3: it's that simple.
- 42:36Speaker 12: I do not want to lose to them, you know,
- 42:41Speaker 12: want to be ahead of them in standings. I think
- 42:43Speaker 12: that you ask anybody that's that's anywhere else, they're going
- 42:47Speaker 12: to say the same thing. But at the same time,
- 42:49Speaker 12: I absolutely love going to New York and I love
- 42:51Speaker 12: going to Philly and playing in those atmospheres. The hostility
- 42:56Speaker 12: there is unmatched. Their fans do not like us whatsoever.
- 43:02Speaker 12: So you know, I definitely look forward to to go
- 43:05Speaker 12: into those cities and playing.
- 43:06Speaker 3: It's it's fun baseball awesome.
- 43:10Speaker 9: You mentioned you know you're you're healthy this offseason with
- 43:13Speaker 9: with all this crazy things that have been happening to
- 43:15Speaker 9: the pitchers of the position players, put a wall up
- 43:18Speaker 9: of like plastic between you guys and the pitchers because
- 43:21Speaker 9: I have never seen a run of things, crazy things
- 43:24Speaker 9: happen to a group of players like what's already happened
- 43:27Speaker 9: to the bravest pitching staff.
- 43:29Speaker 3: It's crazy, and yeah, I don't know what's going on.
- 43:33Speaker 12: That's why I grew the hair out, why I've grown
- 43:35Speaker 12: the beard out a little bit, just trying to change
- 43:37Speaker 12: the mojo up a little bit.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Of something. So I've, like I said, I've never seen
- 43:43Speaker 3: anything like it.
- 43:43Speaker 12: You know, it's I get that injuries are part of
- 43:46Speaker 12: the game and and it's gonna happen. And I know
- 43:49Speaker 12: pitching from you know, today's pitching is is all of
- 43:52Speaker 12: you know, all about v low and spin and and
- 43:57Speaker 12: you know, strikeouts and so uh yeah, we're we're I
- 44:03Speaker 12: don't know if we're putting up a barrier or not,
- 44:05Speaker 12: but we're definitely trying to trying to avoid that as
- 44:08Speaker 12: much as possible.
- 44:09Speaker 1: All right, before we let you get out of here,
- 44:11Speaker 1: tell us a little about a little bit about your
- 44:13Speaker 1: golf tournament that's coming this year.
- 44:14Speaker 12: Yeah, so we're doing it. Believe it's April twenty seventh.
- 44:20Speaker 12: We got an off day. I like to always do it,
- 44:22Speaker 12: like because I like the guys if they want to
- 44:24Speaker 12: come out, they you know, and and I hate and
- 44:27Speaker 12: you know, getting you know, traveling from from a road
- 44:31Speaker 12: city and then having that off day trying to ask guys.
- 44:33Speaker 3: You know, you get in at two o'clock. So we're
- 44:36Speaker 3: I think we're.
- 44:36Speaker 12: Home off day and then home again Atlanta Athletic Club. Uh,
- 44:41Speaker 12: the war we're teaming up with the Warriors Alliance this year.
- 44:43Speaker 12: And for me, it's just the veterans, you know, trying
- 44:45Speaker 12: to put them on the front front board of of
- 44:48Speaker 12: what they do for our country. You know, I think
- 44:50Speaker 12: they get put on the back burner a lot, and
- 44:52Speaker 12: and you know, trying to just you know, raise awareness.
- 44:57Speaker 12: My team does an unbelievable job of putting on the
- 45:00Speaker 12: event and you know, thanks to them, and it's gonna
- 45:04Speaker 12: be gonna be fun.
- 45:05Speaker 3: It always is.
- 45:06Speaker 12: This is fourth year doing it. It seems like it
- 45:08Speaker 12: gets better and better each year, so I'm excited.
- 45:12Speaker 8: Awesome.
- 45:12Speaker 9: Do you invite alumni to your golf tournament or is
- 45:14Speaker 9: it just Chipper and Smoltz? Is it just Chipper and Smolts,
- 45:17Speaker 9: you know, never showed up twenty fifteen Braves Player of
- 45:23Speaker 9: the Year, you know, So, I mean you would feel
- 45:24Speaker 9: like that you get invited to your golf tournament.
- 45:27Speaker 3: We will reach out more welcome.
- 45:30Speaker 9: I mean, Greg Walker is one of your biggest fans.
- 45:32Speaker 9: I've known him since I was like, you know, twenty
- 45:34Speaker 9: five years ago now, So, I mean it figured to
- 45:37Speaker 9: earn me somehow.
- 45:38Speaker 3: We got you. We got you, all.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Right, the last one before I get you out of here.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I know it's probably a little quieter around here with
- 45:46Speaker 1: Ozzie being gone. Yeah, did you call him after his
- 45:48Speaker 1: walk off?
- 45:49Speaker 5: We?
- 45:50Speaker 12: I think, uh, somebody was on FaceTime with him and you.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Know, we were messing with him. I was like, that
- 45:57Speaker 3: is about the littlest league jump on home plate that ever. No,
- 46:01Speaker 3: that was awesome. That was a great swing, great moment
- 46:04Speaker 3: for him in his country. Yeah, but we ragged him
