Latest / Learn Telugu with Fexingo / Telugu at the Restaurant - Ordering Water
Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another Telugu lesson? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing numbers from last time. I can count to ten now! Lucas: That's awesome. Today we're going to learn something very useful — how to ask for water at a restaurant. Luna: Oh, good. I'm always thirsty when I eat out. So, how do I say 'I want water'? Lucas: The phrase is 'నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి'. Say it with me: నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి. Luna: నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి. That's... 'naaku neellu kaavaali'? Lucas: Close! But remember, no phonetic hints. Just listen and repeat: నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి. Luna: నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి. Got it. That means 'I want water'. Lucas: Exactly. Now, if you want a glass of water, you can say 'ఒక గ్లాసు నీళ్ళు ఇవ్వండి'. Luna: ఒక గ్లాసు నీళ్ళు ఇవ్వండి. That's 'give me a glass of water'? Lucas: You got it. 'ఇవ్వండి' means 'give me' — very polite. Now, what if the restaurant is out of water? You might hear 'నీళ్ళు లేవు'. Luna: Oh no. 'నీళ్ళు లేవు' — 'no water'? Lucas: Right. 'లేవు' means 'there is/are not'. So 'నీళ్ళు లేవు' — 'there is no water'. Luna: Let me try: నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి. ఒక గ్లాసు నీళ్ళు ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: Perfect! You're ready to order water anywhere. Luna: This is so practical. I can already imagine using it. Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Telugu, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It keeps the show ad-free and helps us keep making episodes like this. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to say thanks if you find these useful. We really appreciate it. Lucas: So let's practice one more time. Repeat after me: నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి. Luna: నాకు నీళ్ళు కావాలి. Lucas: ఒక గ్లాసు నీళ్ళు ఇవ్వండి. Luna: ఒక గ్లాసు నీళ్ళు ఇవ్వండి. Lucas: And if there's no water: నీళ్ళు లేవు. Luna: నీళ్ళు లేవు. I hope I never have to say that! Lucas: Right? Well, practice these phrases, and next time you're at a Telugu restaurant, you'll be all set. See you next time! Luna: Thanks, Lucas. Bye everyone!
