Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
• 0:07
where we left off with the Leslie Groff transcript from
• 0:11
her interview with Congress Miss Tolan. The committees reviewed multiple
• 0:17
documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, including his phone directories. I
• 0:21
will now introduce as Majority Exhibit one. These are excerpts
• 0:25
of mister Epstein's phone directories that the committee received from
• 0:29
the estate of Jeffrey Epstein. These excerpts are labeled as
• 0:33
massage lists with names or redacted names of individuals, cell
• 0:38
phone numbers, and a description next to the name. Mister
• 0:42
Backner before you ask a question? Could I just have
• 0:44
a quick moment? Toland? Sure, take a moment, Backner, Thank you, Tolan.
• 0:51
Ms Groff. Have you seen these lists before? Answer? This
• 0:54
looks like a little black book that was a directory
• 0:57
that was kept, you know, in the office and at
• 1:00
is Holmes. Question? Where all were they kept at residences? Answer?
• 1:06
I believe all residences. Yes. Question and you said in offices,
• 1:10
in mister Epstein's office or in your office? Answer? One
• 1:15
was on my desk when I started, and I believe
• 1:17
there were others other administrators who had them on their
• 1:21
desk as well. Question and Miss Groff, did you create
• 1:24
these lists? Answer no. Question do you know who did? Answer?
• 1:30
I believe it was Miss Maxwell. Question do you know
• 1:32
how she created the list? Answer? I do not. I
• 1:35
think over time. Question and is this to the best
• 1:38
of your recollection? Is this what the lists look like
• 1:42
when you began working for mister Epstein? Answer yes. Question
• 1:46
did you add two, change, or remove any names from
• 1:49
any of these lists? Answer? I'm sure I added to
• 1:52
the list. I don't think we ever took things out,
• 1:55
but we added Brignac. What would warrant adding someone to
• 1:59
this black book? Gruff? Anyone he met. If I was
• 2:02
directed to put a phone number, a name in and
• 2:06
a phone number in, I would put them in. I
• 2:08
would actually put it into the computer system, not into
• 2:11
the black book. I think the black book was printed
• 2:14
from the directory that was on the computer system at
• 2:17
the time. Miss Tolan. Question, so who else had authority
• 2:21
to add or change names on the directory? Answer? I
• 2:24
think that would be anyone in the office. Question and
• 2:27
you mentioned already, but did you use the list to
• 2:30
schedule massage appointments for mister Epstein? Answer? He directed me
• 2:35
on who to schedule. So, and it usually it was
• 2:38
a name and a phone number. Maybe if it was
• 2:41
somebody that he was hiring for a while. After a while,
• 2:45
he didn't have to give me the phone number because
• 2:47
the phone number was in the directory. Question, so he
• 2:50
would if he provided you a name, you would use
• 2:53
the directory for the number. Answer correct question. And previously
• 2:57
you mentioned that anyone else in the office would have
• 2:59
the ability to change the access to these lists. Is
• 3:03
that correct? Answer? Correct question? Who are you referring to here? Answer?
• 3:09
It would be miss Maxwell redacted. We had a receptionists
• 3:12
at the time, you know, a couple of different ones. Redacted,
• 3:15
who was Darren Endike's assistant, could add and subtract. Anybody
• 3:19
who had access to the computer system should be able
• 3:22
to add and subtract. Tolin and mister Epstein, you said
• 3:28
would tell you names and numbers of who to call.
• 3:30
Were there ever times when you would if you would
• 3:33
just say you wanted a massage, would you ever choose
• 3:35
one to schedule? Answer? No question. And on the first
• 3:39
page of the list, which is House Oversight Bates four hundred,
• 3:43
there's a list of massage names specific to New York. Answer, uh, huh. Question,
• 3:47
And on the back of the page there's a list
• 3:49
of names also specific to New York. These are labeled
• 3:53
A and B. Do you know why there's an A
• 3:56
and a B list for New York? Answer I do not.
• 4:00
I know it's redacted. But do you know from your
• 4:02
role if there's any difference in these two lists? Answer
• 4:05
I do not. Question. There is also a list of
• 4:08
massage names specific to Florida. Do you know who is
• 4:11
on that list? Do you know who created that list? Answer?
• 4:16
I do not. It was before I got there, Miss Brignac,
• 4:20
But you did add to the list, correct Graff. Yeah,
• 4:23
I could have added to the list, but I don't know. Yes,
• 4:26
I added to the list at times. The whole book
• 4:29
was before I got there, it had already started, Miss Brynac.
• 4:34
Can you recall who you may have added? Ms? Groff,
• 4:36
I don't know, Miss Tolan. And did you schedule from
• 4:41
Florida list specifically at any point? Answer It's possible that
• 4:45
I schedule for Florida, but I don't recall anything offhand.
• 4:48
Nothing stands out. Same questions here. There is also a
• 4:52
list Massage New Mexico. Do you know who created that list? Answer?
• 4:56
I don't. I would think it would be miss Maxwell.
• 5:00
And did you also use this list to schedule massages
• 5:03
for mister Epstein in New Mexico? Answer it's possible. He
• 5:07
didn't go there very often, but it's possible. Question was
• 5:10
there a list of messuses specific to Paris friends? We
• 5:14
know he had an apartment, Mister Epstein had an apartment,
• 5:16
There was there a list? Answer? I don't know. Is
• 5:19
there a list? Question? There was not in anything we received,
• 5:23
so just if you have knowledge of it? Answer, oh,
• 5:26
I don't recall the list. Question? And then within this
• 5:30
document there is also a list specific to the UK.
• 5:33
Do you know why mister Epstein would have had a
• 5:35
list of massage names specific to the UK? Answer? I
• 5:39
do not. Question did he ever maintain a residence there?
• 5:42
Answer in the UK? Question yes, answer not that I'm
• 5:46
aware of. Question did he frequently travel there? Answer no?
• 5:50
Question by Brignac, So then what would the UK list
• 5:54
be used for? Groff? I don't know. I guess if
• 5:57
you went to the UK, Brignac, did you use it
• 6:00
to schedule other people? Graf? Oh? No, no, Tolin And
• 6:04
then same questions there also appears to be a list
• 6:07
specific to California? Did you use this list to schedule
• 6:10
massages for mister Epstein in California? Answer? I don't recall.
• 6:15
Question do you know why he had a list specific
• 6:18
to California? Answer? I do not. Question did he ever
• 6:23
maintain a residence in California? Answer not that I'm aware of. Question?
• 6:28
And did he travel there often? Answer? Not often? Question
• 6:32
and then there does not appear to be one in
• 6:34
this directory. But do you know if of there being
• 6:37
a list specific to the Virgin Islands? Answer I'm not
• 6:41
aware of a list specific to the Virgin Islands? Question
• 6:44
and next to you can see it. Next to all
• 6:47
of the list, there are parentheticals, a lot of them
• 6:50
read redacted names, friends, redacted names, roommate which we understand
• 6:56
to be roommate redacted, pale, And even on page five,
• 6:59
one of the parentheticals reads GM, who we understand to
• 7:03
be Miss Maxwell really likes. What was the purpose of
• 7:07
these descriptions? Answer? I don't know. I don't even recall descriptors.
• 7:12
I really did not use the directory. I used what
• 7:14
was on the computer system. It was much faster Brignac.
• 7:19
Question but miss Groff, who had access to this book? Answer?
• 7:22
Uh huh? Question, did you not find it odd that
• 7:26
some of the messuses were friends of other messuses and
• 7:29
not coworkers? Answer? I did not. I guess I did not.
• 7:33
I didn't even think about it. Question in twenty years,
• 7:36
you never asked, why are we booking Messus's friends to
• 7:39
come give massages as well? Backner, I don't, respectfully, I
• 7:44
don't think you laid the foundation that she saw friends there.
• 7:47
I think she said she used something in the other
• 7:49
computer system, mister Witcomb, or that massages were happening for
• 7:54
twenty years. Sam objection, Miss Brignac, thank you. I'd still
• 7:58
like for you to answer the question about friends. I
• 8:01
don't recall seeing these what did you call them? Question descriptors?
• 8:05
Answer descriptors? Yeah, I didn't. I don't recall seeing the
• 8:09
descriptives or people talking about descriptives. I would just be
• 8:14
given the directive. Question So these were not in the
• 8:18
online database version? Answer not that I recall. Question and
• 8:22
so these were for mister Epstein's awareness rather than you answer,
• 8:26
I don't know if they were for his awareness or
• 8:28
miss Maxwell's awareness. I don't know whose awareness they were for.
• 8:32
Question and you mentioned there is the online version of
• 8:35
the directories what database was that information stored on? Do
• 8:38
you know? Answer? I don't have independent knowledge or recollection
• 8:42
of this, but I did read Sarah's testimony gets cut
• 8:46
off by backner. Do you want her recollection or do
• 8:49
you want to know what she read? Tolin her recollection?
• 8:52
If you know? Grafoh, I don't remember. Question and do
• 8:56
you know if any of that information was ever deleted
• 9:00
during the first investigation into mister Epstein? Answer I don't know.
• 9:03
Question And do you know if it was deleted at
• 9:06
any point? Answer? I do not. Question was this information
• 9:10
ever switched to a different database? Answer? We did switch
• 9:14
over to mac computers. Question Miss Groff, I'm going to
