The Sleeper Awakes Chapter 2 - The Trance
In which we observe a man consigned to a protracted trance-like state, neither dead nor alive, and the passage of many years brings changes in those around him while he remains suspended in this curious condition. The reflections of two acquaintances, grown old and altered by time, reveal the peculiarities of his situation and the vexed uncertainties that attend his prolonged sleep.
