- 0:05Speaker 1: Jim Dunaway, Lance Taylor, Ryan Brown, live. The next round
- 0:11Speaker 1: is on now. Presented by Hard Rock Bet, it is
- 0:18Speaker 1: the next round on Sporting State. We appreciate you joining
- 0:21Speaker 1: us for another show, Thursday edition of the show. Jim
- 0:25Speaker 1: Dunaway has started his European vacation. He will be gone
- 0:30Speaker 1: for a week. He's going to be staring at Lance
- 0:33Speaker 1: the whole show. Look at that.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yeah, very Clark Griswold-like. I can't wait to hear about
- 0:39Speaker 2: the adventures over there. I know he is terrified about
- 0:41Speaker 2: this flight over the Atlantic Ocean. I would say that
- 0:47Speaker 2: it's one of the things that I always thought about
- 0:48Speaker 2: before I went to Europe, and I think it's one
- 0:50Speaker 2: of the things I was hesitant about going over to Europe.
- 0:53Speaker 2: And I finally just got to a point, I'm like,
- 0:54Speaker 2: you know, If you go down in the Atlantic, you
- 0:57Speaker 2: go down in the Atlantic.
- 0:58Speaker 1: It's your time to go.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It's not a lot you can do about it. But
- 1:00Speaker 2: I will tell you that 10 milligram edibles really, really
- 1:03Speaker 2: help a flight.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Do they? Yeah.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Now, I have had other people that flip out and
- 1:07Speaker 2: they're like, I get way too paranoid. And when you
- 1:10Speaker 2: get paranoid at 30,000 feet, that can be a problem.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:13Speaker 2: But yeah, I found it to be quite the ease
- 1:15Speaker 2: when I travel now.
- 1:16Speaker 1: That is, air travel has never really bothered me. I
- 1:20Speaker 1: kind of enjoy it, actually. I just like the I
- 1:22Speaker 1: don't know. I don't love fighting the crowds in the airports,
- 1:25Speaker 1: but there's something about being in an airport. I don't know.
- 1:29Speaker 1: This is kind of a weird thing I'm about to say,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and I accept that it's weird, but I'm walking next
- 1:34Speaker 1: to somebody. I'm flying to Los Angeles, and I'm walking
- 1:38Speaker 1: next to somebody that's flying to Paris, and we pass
- 1:40Speaker 1: somebody that's flying to Milwaukee.
- 1:43Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I just find that fascinating. No, I do too. It's
- 1:45Speaker 1: kind of weird to say.
- 1:46Speaker 2: And I also find it fascinating that you can walk
- 1:49Speaker 2: by an airport bar at 7 in the morning and
- 1:53Speaker 2: you never judge anybody drinking.
- 1:55Speaker 1: That's right. You never know what time it is in
- 1:56Speaker 1: their body. Yeah, you have no idea.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And you really, all these different walks of life and
- 2:01Speaker 2: You know, there's a little chaos there. The people that
- 2:04Speaker 2: are traveling for work might not be in the best mood,
- 2:07Speaker 2: but you do have a lot of people that are traveling,
- 2:09Speaker 2: going on vacations.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You can tell the difference.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, so you have, like, just so many different experiences
- 2:13Speaker 2: going on. So I'm right there with you. I think
- 2:15Speaker 2: airports are fascinating. What I don't like now is the actual,
- 2:18Speaker 2: once you get in that tube and how aggressive everybody
- 2:22Speaker 2: has gotten, and on the other side, how bad the
- 2:24Speaker 2: customer service is.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, there are some negatives. I do also like,
- 2:27Speaker 1: you know, you're walking to your gate, and I walk
- 2:29Speaker 1: past the gate, and it's like, El Paso, Texas. I
- 2:32Speaker 1: got on that flight. I just wonder what I would
- 2:34Speaker 1: do if I got to El Paso, Texas. And then
- 2:35Speaker 1: you walk by and you're like, Seattle, Washington. I mean,
- 2:38Speaker 1: I just, I don't know why that fascinates me, but
- 2:40Speaker 1: I walked down the terminal.
- 2:41Speaker 4: It's like a home alone sort of deal.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I mean, it's almost like, it's like, all right, stay
- 2:47Speaker 1: with me.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Okay.
- 2:48Speaker 1: In the future, when we have teleportation, right? So I've,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I've made a prediction about teleportation before that when teleportation starts, Tyler,
- 2:57Speaker 1: you're the youngest person up here. I still think you
- 3:00Speaker 1: possibly remember this. You may not. Your mom and dad
- 3:03Speaker 1: were probably paying your cell phone bill. But all us
- 3:05Speaker 1: olds up here will remember when you first got a
- 3:07Speaker 1: cell phone, you only had so many minutes you could use.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You had to buy minutes. Do you remember that? Do
- 3:11Speaker 1: you remember that part?
- 3:11Speaker 4: I remember that being a thing, but by the time
- 3:14Speaker 4: I had, like, a phone I used regularly.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Do you remember that? I do.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Well, the worst was when you travel.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Oh, you had roaming charges.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, the roaming charges. I remember the first time I
- 3:22Speaker 2: went to New York and I got back and my
- 3:24Speaker 2: bill was like $ 600 for a weekend. I'm like, my gosh.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So yeah, you had minutes and you paid for so
- 3:29Speaker 1: many minutes, like pay for 300 minutes. And if you
- 3:32Speaker 1: went over your minutes, you got charged. You know, now
- 3:34Speaker 1: you pick up the phone.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Oh crap.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Pick up the phone. You call anybody, throw it around.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I do that all the time.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Apple care.
- 3:40Speaker 1: That's what's going to happen with teleportation. Initially, when we
- 3:43Speaker 1: start teleporting, you're going to have so many miles you
- 3:45Speaker 1: can teleport.
- 3:48Speaker 2: My fear with teleportation, and I'm sure you've never seen
- 3:51Speaker 2: the movie, and I know you have, David Cronenberg's The Fly.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Never seen it.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Where Jeff Goldblum is just basically teleporting from one pod
- 3:58Speaker 2: to the next, where you pick up a different element,
- 4:01Speaker 2: like a fly, and then you're fused together. There's going
- 4:05Speaker 2: to be so many complications with teleportation. There are.
- 4:08Speaker 1: It's going to be tricky. I don't want to be
- 4:10Speaker 1: the first one in.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Or another movie reference, in Harry Potter, when they learn
- 4:14Speaker 4: how to teleport– They're students, so they don't know how
- 4:18Speaker 4: to do it properly, and sometimes you lose an.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Arm or a leg, and you've got to get it
- 4:22Speaker 1: right attached.
- 4:22Speaker 2: You know what would be the most fascinating or one
- 4:24Speaker 2: of the fascinating elements of teleportation? You know, the businessman
- 4:27Speaker 2: back to Paris, you know, he's on business in Paris.
- 4:30Speaker 1: That's right.
- 4:30Speaker 2: His wife thinks he might be cheating. And then she's just.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Able to teleport immediately to a hotel bar. She'll be
- 4:36Speaker 1: there in seconds.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Like, you really would have to be on your toes
- 4:39Speaker 2: all of the time if you have anything nefarious going
- 4:41Speaker 2: on with the era of teleportation.
- 4:43Speaker 1: But see, there are going to be issues early in teleportation.
- 4:46Speaker 1: But take yourself back to the early 1900s when Orville
- 4:49Speaker 1: and Wilbur landed the plane for the first time. And
- 4:52Speaker 1: they were like, all right. We're flying over there. Who
- 4:55Speaker 1: wants to go next? Do you think everybody's like, oh, me, me, me, me?
- 4:57Speaker 1: Or are you like, I'd kind of like to see it.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Oh, look, air travel.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I'd like to see it landed a couple times before
- 5:01Speaker 1: I jump on it.
- 5:02Speaker 2: We still have disasters, you know. That's what I'm saying.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Knock on wood, it's not often, but they still happen.
- 5:07Speaker 1: That's right.
- 5:07Speaker 2: You know, it's going to happen if we ever get
- 5:09Speaker 2: to teleportation. So you truly believe this will happen?
- 5:12Speaker 1: I think at one point, I don't know in our lifetime,
- 5:13Speaker 1: we'll have teleportation.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I don't think it can happen.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I think we'll have teleportation. Now, my point was
- 5:17Speaker 1: going to be.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I don't know how we, like, you break down the
- 5:19Speaker 2: whole body and then you're able to put it back together.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Science.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Science. It's all science. Very complicated.
- 5:24Speaker 4: What about a large system of, like, tubes, like at
- 5:27Speaker 4: the bank?
- 5:28Speaker 1: You know, like the, what are they, pneumatic tubes?
- 5:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Yeah, you just hop in a little elevator pod sort
- 5:34Speaker 4: of deal and put it in your location.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I get motion sickness to begin with. I can't imagine
- 5:39Speaker 2: being tubed somewhere.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that'd be rough.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Somewhere far.
- 5:41Speaker 1: That'd be rough. But what I was going to say
- 5:43Speaker 1: is I think in my mind teleportation will be like
- 5:45Speaker 1: the airport. Like I'll walk through and the El Paso
- 5:48Speaker 1: teleportation is right there and I just step through that
- 5:51Speaker 1: door and I'm in El Paso.
- 5:52Speaker 2: You have brought up El Paso.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I don't know why. It was just the city that
- 5:56Speaker 1: came to mind.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Have you had a dream about this?
- 5:57Speaker 1: No, no.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Because it is an absolute shithole.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I've never been. I don't really desire to go. When
- 6:04Speaker 1: I was talking about walking through the airport and I
- 6:06Speaker 1: was thinking of seeing a city on a screen, El
- 6:08Speaker 1: Paso was on that screen.
- 6:09Speaker 2: And you know on the other side of El Paso?
- 6:11Speaker 3: Juarez?
- 6:12Speaker 1: Juarez. Is that desirable?
- 6:14Speaker 2: No, no. Not a vacation spot? One of my best
- 6:17Speaker 2: friend's son was stationed in El Paso.
- 6:19Speaker 1: The NFL will probably be playing a regular season game
- 6:21Speaker 1: there before long.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Probably.
- 6:22Speaker 2: But they would sit up, and this is recently.
- 6:24Speaker 1: It's close with everything going on in Paris right now.
- 6:27Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying, yeah. He said it was like
- 6:28Speaker 2: 4th of July in Juarez. You would just see firefights.
- 6:31Speaker 2: You would just see it at night all the time.
- 6:34Speaker 2: If you want to get beheaded, go to Juarez. So
- 6:38Speaker 2: can I do that any weekday, or does that have
- 6:39Speaker 2: to be a weekend? Oh, I think you can go
- 6:40Speaker 2: any time.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Any day?
- 6:41Speaker 1: I think you need to make an appointment. To get beheaded?
- 6:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So I'm calling about a beheading appointment, please. Sir, could
- 6:46Speaker 1: you hold? You're right, Tyler. Like, we're playing this game
- 6:50Speaker 1: in Paris, and I don't know what they're writing about.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I tried to read it, and it made no sense
- 6:54Speaker 1: to me.
- 6:55Speaker 4: I read some of it, and all I could really
- 6:58Speaker 4: understand was that it's a student protest.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Right. So it starts about 1 in the afternoon. Like, uh.
- 7:06Speaker 4: The way I understood it is like when French students
- 7:09Speaker 4: apply to schools, it's not like here where like I
- 7:12Speaker 4: apply to Auburn and then I get accepted to Auburn.
- 7:14Speaker 4: And then once I'm in Auburn, I might apply for
- 7:17Speaker 4: the film program because they might have separate requirements.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Gotcha.
- 7:20Speaker 4: You apply for every individual program you're interested in was
- 7:23Speaker 4: how I read it. And so students are sending in,
- 7:26Speaker 4: you know, 10, 20 applications per school. And that's created this.
- 7:31Speaker 4: bottleneck in actually accepting students and processing applications.
- 7:35Speaker 1: So they've chosen to remedy this by writing is, is what.
- 7:38Speaker 4: They're, that is what I have understood.
- 7:40Speaker 5: Yes.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure we can sort this out, but letting
- 7:42Speaker 2: AI take over.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Sure.
- 7:44Speaker 2: You know, the admissions.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Have you seen this?
- 7:46Speaker 2: No, I have not.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Do a Google, just do a Google image search real quick,
- 7:50Speaker 1: Tyler for Paris riots.
- 7:52Speaker 7: Okay.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Now I will say, you know, um, you know, our
- 7:55Speaker 2: buddy Roni, his wife, Almondine is from Paris. And I
- 7:59Speaker 2: did see that she posted something. And I thought it
- 8:02Speaker 2: might be some kind of comical meme about Paris burning,
- 8:06Speaker 2: but it doesn't really look like that's got a lot
- 8:09Speaker 2: of comedy to it.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yeah, there's no comedy to this, my friend. This is legit.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And they're about to play an NFL game over there.
- 8:13Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Well, I mean, it doesn't make sense if Paris is
- 8:17Speaker 1: not burning, but with Paris burning.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Did you see the hype video the Steelers put out?
- 8:21Speaker 1: I did not. Don't tell me they had, like, the
- 8:23Speaker 1: Eiffel Tower on fire.
- 8:24Speaker 3: They did.
- 8:25Speaker 2: No, they didn't.
- 8:25Speaker 1: No, Tyler, I was kidding. That's not true.
- 8:27Speaker 2: They could not.
- 8:28Speaker 1: They can't be real. Tyler, you've gotten hoaxed. I either
- 8:31Speaker 1: got bamboozled.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Or somebody has done something. I hope you're right. I
- 8:34Speaker 2: hope the Steelers really posted this. I hope the Players
- 8:38Speaker 2: Association gets behind posts like this because we don't want
- 8:41Speaker 2: to go over there anymore.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Tyler's going to have to do it. I will not
- 8:44Speaker 1: believe this. Unless I see it myself. Tyler has been bamboozled.
- 8:47Speaker 1: There is zero chance the Steelers put out a hype
- 8:51Speaker 1: video for this game with the Eiffel Tower. Oh, God,
- 8:54Speaker 1: they're not wearing those uniforms, are they? I'd rather see
- 8:56Speaker 1: the Eiffel Tower burn.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you've been bamboozled, Tyler. All right, I'm sorry.
- 9:01Speaker 1: How's it going?
- 9:03Speaker 2: Can you at least find the one that you saw?
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, give me the bamboozled one. Well, you're only 22
- 9:08Speaker 1: hours back. It could have been the other day.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Or the guy could have been fired and they could
- 9:11Speaker 2: have removed it, right?
- 9:12Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, all those things could have happened. Oh, Tyler,
- 9:14Speaker 1: how did you fall for that? This is one of
- 9:19Speaker 1: those deals where I'm just scrolling.
- 9:22Speaker 2: You dog me out.
- 9:23Speaker 8: For some of the shit I've fallen for.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And this, look at it.
- 9:26Speaker 2: He's got a flamethrower.
- 9:27Speaker 1: This is as bad as Johnny Football leaping the fence, Tyler.
- 9:30Speaker 1: There's no way you could have fallen.
- 9:31Speaker 4: I knew it was AI.
- 9:32Speaker 1: That's not what I'm saying. Like, oh, I didn't know
- 9:34Speaker 1: he was standing there in front of the burning town. No,
- 9:36Speaker 1: but the fact that. But you thought the Steelers sent
- 9:38Speaker 1: that out?
- 9:38Speaker 2: Look at the bomb going off and the guy getting
- 9:39Speaker 2: blown out of there.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought maybe a social media intern got a
- 9:42Speaker 4: little spicy.
- 9:42Speaker 2: The guy getting blown out of the storefront. Watch this.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Here he comes. Yeah, yeah, you got bamboozled Tyler.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I uh, this is the exact account I saw
- 9:54Speaker 4: it from that football crave, which I think is just
- 9:57Speaker 4: one of the satire.
- 9:59Speaker 3: It is.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I would say probably satire. So, yeah, I got bamboozled.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Still looks more believable than Johnny Manziel running into the
- 10:06Speaker 6: stands at Brian Denny.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I like this one better. flare the guys so there
- 10:11Speaker 1: was a flare the fridge flat and the Eiffel Tower
- 10:14Speaker 1: is just falling.
- 10:14Speaker 6: The NFL just announced that they have canceled like the
- 10:17Speaker 6: fanfare event.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Oh really so they're not going to do that with Paris.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Burning yeah so I mean the NFL typically and we've
- 10:24Speaker 2: talked about this I mean as long as I can
- 10:26Speaker 2: remember it's been by far the top model And, you know,
- 10:29Speaker 2: you had one in Mexico City, you know, one of
- 10:31Speaker 2: the most dangerous cities in the world.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:33Speaker 2: And now you're going to the middle of riots that
- 10:35Speaker 2: I didn't even realize was going on.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:38Speaker 2: If you've got to cancel fanfare, what's the point of
- 10:40Speaker 2: doing the game?
- 10:40Speaker 3: I agree.
- 10:41Speaker 1: This is so stupid.
- 10:42Speaker 6: Well, and then, I mean, Brazil is not known to
- 10:44Speaker 6: be the safest country in the world.
- 10:46Speaker 5: No.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And they keep going back there. Well, I mean, they've
- 10:49Speaker 1: had to make adjustments when they've gone to some of
- 10:50Speaker 1: these Mexican games. I never dreamt they would have to
- 10:54Speaker 1: do it for Paris, but I'm sure security is at
- 10:56Speaker 1: an all-time high. I mean, if you're going to make it, well,
- 10:58Speaker 1: I don't even want to say that out loud. All right. Well,
- 11:02Speaker 1: I mean, you know, so sometimes on this show, you're
- 11:05Speaker 1: just talking and saying what comes to mind and I
- 11:07Speaker 1: was going to say something, not that was bad, but
- 11:10Speaker 1: I just don't want to speak it into existence. Oh,
- 11:12Speaker 1: I see. NFL's playing a game in Paris, and they're riding.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet bringing you the show today. Hard Rock Bet.

- 12:17Speaker 1: talk some with Herm Edwards, the coach, going to join
- 12:19Speaker 1: us at the start of the second hour here. So, Coach,
- 12:21Speaker 1: about 50 minutes away. We love catching up with Coach
- 12:24Speaker 1: Herm out there on the West Coast before he heads
- 12:26Speaker 1: to Bristol. But two foreign teams tonight, the Patriots and
- 12:29Speaker 1: the Bears, two teams that at certain points this year
- 12:31Speaker 1: have looked completely lost. And at certain points this year
- 12:34Speaker 1: have looked really, really good. So I don't know what
- 12:36Speaker 1: to expect. Well, you know, I go back to the
- 12:37Speaker 1: quarterback for both of these. These guys were drafted in
- 12:39Speaker 1: the same class. Caleb Williams goes one.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Drake May goes three. Drake May up until this point
- 12:44Speaker 2: has had the better career. But, you know, Caleb Williams
- 12:47Speaker 2: gets hurt. You know, they kind of fall off a
- 12:50Speaker 2: little bit offensively. Now he comes back. And in week
- 12:53Speaker 2: one after missing three weeks against the Falcons, he was
- 12:56Speaker 2: really good. 30-36, 305 yards and a 31-23 win. And
- 12:58Speaker 2: then you look at Drake May. Right now, the Patriots,
- 13:04Speaker 2: three consecutive wins. During that three-game winning streak, he's only
- 13:07Speaker 2: thrown one pick. And this is a super important game
- 13:10Speaker 2: for both teams based on the fact that New England
- 13:12Speaker 2: still holds out hope with the head-to-head over Buffalo that
- 13:15Speaker 2: they could win the East. But just getting to the
- 13:18Speaker 2: postseason right now in the AFC, when you look around
- 13:20Speaker 2: at 4-2 Denver, 5-0 Kansas City, 4-2 Jacksonville, You've got
- 13:26Speaker 2: everybody's above. 500 right now in the north, and obviously
- 13:29Speaker 2: you've got Buffalo there. But on the other side, for
- 13:33Speaker 2: the Chicago Bears, in that NFC north, maybe the most
- 13:36Speaker 2: competitive division in football, you don't need to drop a game,
- 13:39Speaker 2: go 4-3, when you've got Minnesota sitting there at 5-0.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So big game on both sides. And this is one
- 13:45Speaker 2: of the better Thursday night games we've gotten.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I would agree with you on that. Generally, the Thursday
- 13:49Speaker 1: night product has not been good. And it's not necessarily
- 13:52Speaker 1: the teams, the matchup that is bad. It's just the
- 13:54Speaker 1: quality of play that is bad. So if you start
- 13:57Speaker 1: with a bad matchup and then you assume you're going
- 13:59Speaker 1: to get quality of play that is bad, the Thursday
- 14:01Speaker 1: night game is pretty undesirable. At least you're starting with
- 14:03Speaker 1: a good matchup in this. Whether or not we get
- 14:05Speaker 1: quality of play that's up to par, I don't know.
- 14:07Speaker 1: But you're starting with a good matchup. I'm going to
- 14:09Speaker 1: say something I don't know if you'll agree with. I, personally...
- 14:13Speaker 1: had rather try to track down the Bills, or excuse me,
- 14:16Speaker 1: let me back up. I personally had rather try to
- 14:19Speaker 1: track down the Vikings, if I'm the Bears, than the Bills,
- 14:22Speaker 1: if I'm the Patriots. And the Bills have got one loss,
- 14:25Speaker 1: and the Vikings are undefeated.
- 14:26Speaker 2: But the Patriots have one team, and that is the Bills.
- 14:29Speaker 1: That's right.
- 14:30Speaker 2: For Chicago, it could be Detroit, it could be Green Bay,
- 14:33Speaker 2: it could be Minnesota. All of those teams right now
- 14:35Speaker 2: have the capability of winning the NFC North. So that's
- 14:38Speaker 2: kind of the scary proposition if Chicago was to drop
- 14:41Speaker 2: And become the first team with three losses in that division.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I mean, you would feel like because of the depth
- 14:49Speaker 1: of the division, what you're saying is NFC North deeper
- 14:52Speaker 1: than AFC East.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 1: And there's no doubt about that.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Not even close.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Jets and Dolphins are barely competitive.
- 14:56Speaker 2: It's the deepest division this year in football.
- 14:58Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 2: You know, we always said that, you know, the most
- 15:01Speaker 2: elite was the NFC West until this year. And obviously...
- 15:05Speaker 2: With the Rams, where they're struggling right now at 2-4,
- 15:07Speaker 2: I don't know if you can make that argument anymore,
- 15:09Speaker 2: but the deepest by far is the NFC North.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:12Speaker 1: So that is tonight. The game in Paris is not
- 15:15Speaker 1: until over the weekend. Obviously, it's not a Thursday night game,
- 15:17Speaker 1: but we're talking about it for reasons I can't even
- 15:19Speaker 1: remember why. But the NFL, for some reason, is playing
- 15:22Speaker 1: in Paris. I do wonder. Rusty says the players should
- 15:25Speaker 1: boycott going over there. This is ridiculous. I guess it's
- 15:30Speaker 1: a little late for that. They've already traveled. They're already
- 15:32Speaker 1: over there. But you do wonder if the Players Association
- 15:36Speaker 1: had gotten involved and had made a stink about this.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Oh, they're playing this game. I don't know who the
- 15:41Speaker 2: home team is. Is it Pittsburgh?
- 15:43Speaker 1: I wouldn't think they would take a home game away
- 15:45Speaker 1: from the Steelers, would they?
- 15:46Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I really have no idea.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Anyway, they love ripping them from Jackson, which we understand.
- 15:51Speaker 2: But whoever the home team was supposed to be in
- 15:54Speaker 2: this matchup, give them their home game back.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I bet if the Players Association, especially with.
- 15:58Speaker 2: What's going on right now with this investigation and Jalen Hurts.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:02Speaker 1: They started to push on stuff, right?
- 16:03Speaker 2: I think the NFL could probably back down.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yeah. And if you have a ticket in Paris, how
- 16:07Speaker 1: upset are you? And what does it matter if they're upset?
- 16:11Speaker 1: You're never going to play a game over there.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Well, it's like if there was a friendly at freaking
- 16:16Speaker 2: one of our local stadiums, would you really get beat up? Damn,
- 16:19Speaker 2: it sucks, kids. We'll find something else to do.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I know. I mean, I get my money back
- 16:22Speaker 1: is really all I'm concerned about. I'd hate that I
- 16:23Speaker 1: missed it. But, yeah, I don't know. And I don't
- 16:26Speaker 1: know if he's saying that about just this game or
- 16:27Speaker 1: all these international games, but they can't do these international
- 16:30Speaker 1: games without the Players Association agreeing. So they've already agreed
- 16:32Speaker 1: to do those. So you can't really fight that once
- 16:35Speaker 1: the Players Association has agreed it. So there you go.
- 16:39Speaker 1: That's NFL. We'll talk more about that with Coach Herm Edwards.
- 16:41Speaker 1: As we start the show, just a couple of quick
- 16:43Speaker 1: things on the college football playoff. This 2014 playoff, and
- 16:47Speaker 1: I hate that these stories feel like they always happen
- 16:49Speaker 1: in season. I wish this stuff would happen in April
- 16:52Speaker 1: or May or June or July, but for whatever reason,
- 16:55Speaker 1: this college football playoff expansion story to 24 teams is
- 16:59Speaker 1: occurring right in the middle of a pretty good college
- 17:01Speaker 1: football season so far. So there are going to be
- 17:04Speaker 1: little droplets of news that come out throughout the season
- 17:06Speaker 1: as this thing unfolds. Continues to get negotiated. A couple
- 17:09Speaker 1: of those from Ross Dellinger today and then one from
- 17:11Speaker 1: our boy Klad. Dellinger says from Yahoo Sports that with
- 17:17Speaker 1: the new deal of ESPN, I think you'll like this Lance,
- 17:19Speaker 1: with the new deal at ESPN, there can be no
- 17:23Speaker 1: further college football expansion from 24 to 24. Until the
- 17:27Speaker 1: year 2032. So we've got at least six years where
- 17:30Speaker 1: they're not going to expand. Oh my God, what would
- 17:31Speaker 1: we expand to?
- 17:32Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 17:32Speaker 1: But at least there's some sort of stopgap in there
- 17:35Speaker 1: to keep us from doing it.
- 17:36Speaker 2: You know, the more I've thought about this, and look,
- 17:38Speaker 2: it's going to be different on this front. There is
- 17:39Speaker 2: nothing like a sacred college football Saturday. We only get
- 17:42Speaker 2: so many of those. That is correct, yep. Very, very important.
- 17:45Speaker 2: But I used to be the biggest college basketball fan.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I could not wait for Big Monday. I absolutely loved
- 17:50Speaker 2: it growing up. I loved watching Dick Vitale. I loved
- 17:53Speaker 2: watching Northwestern Ohio State basketball. It didn't matter. I just
- 17:57Speaker 2: wanted to watch college basketball. Because of what we do
- 18:00Speaker 2: for a living, I watch it now. I don't really
- 18:04Speaker 2: enjoy it until the tournament. And I do think with
- 18:07Speaker 2: this 24 teams.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I think for some people, it's going to become like
- 18:11Speaker 2: March Madness. The regular season is not going to matter
- 18:13Speaker 2: at all. I know it does because we talk about
- 18:16Speaker 2: the analytics of college basketball and ultimately who's going to
- 18:20Speaker 2: get in based on those analytics, but it's going to
- 18:23Speaker 2: lose a lot of the regular season, in my opinion. Now,
- 18:25Speaker 2: you and I are still going to be on the
- 18:26Speaker 2: couch for 12, 14 hours.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I will not miss a college football Saturday.
- 18:29Speaker 2: And we'll enjoy it, but it's going to feel different
- 18:31Speaker 2: for some people.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't disagree with that, but at least they're
- 18:35Speaker 1: going to stick with 20. I mean, they've Didn't even
- 18:38Speaker 1: stick with 12 through two cycles. They skipped right past 14, 16, 18,
- 18:43Speaker 1: went to 24.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but the way to do this was to go
- 18:45Speaker 2: to 16. And then, hey, and in 2032, if we
- 18:48Speaker 2: reevaluate and you want to grow it to 24, if
- 18:51Speaker 2: we're all in agreement. But again, and we've talked about this,
- 18:54Speaker 2: none of this is done in the interest of the fans.
- 18:56Speaker 1: No, not at all. Six-year deal. And supposedly, and I
- 18:59Speaker 1: say supposedly because there's outs to every deal, they can't
- 19:03Speaker 1: expand until 2032. But I'm like you. Even the money-hungry,
- 19:07Speaker 1: greedy college football world, I can't see them going past
- 19:09Speaker 1: 24 teams. I don't know what else you would do. Well,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I say that. I say that, but, I mean, I
- 19:15Speaker 1: guess you could go to 32 and everybody plays a
- 19:17Speaker 1: first-round game. I mean, that would be the next natural move, right? Well,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I mean, if it's.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Blowing up, look, I'm not going to doubt anything. Like,
- 19:22Speaker 2: if the TV numbers, I know they're down, what, 12%
- 19:25Speaker 2: right now, but if the TV numbers are up, everybody, like,
- 19:28Speaker 2: is engaged and, you know, they're killing it advertising-wise... Yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 2: I mean, they'll ultimately expand.
- 19:35Speaker 1: One other thing that Ross points out, and we'll just
- 19:38Speaker 1: gloss over this and I'll get to the clad thing
- 19:39Speaker 1: after the break, that ESPN has the right to sub-license
- 19:45Speaker 1: these games that they are adding, which would just mean
- 19:47Speaker 1: for you as the end consumer, some of these are already...
- 19:50Speaker 1: on Turner Sports. It could be more on Turner Sports.
- 19:52Speaker 1: This could be Fox's entryway. This could be CBS or
- 19:55Speaker 1: NBC getting into the college football playoff. ESPN owns all
- 19:58Speaker 1: the games, but they do have the right. They've already
- 20:01Speaker 1: sold some off. They've got the right to sell off
- 20:02Speaker 1: all these that they're purchasing now. and the 24 teams.
- 20:05Speaker 1: All that means is you could have multiple networks. Well, yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 1: and that doesn't bother me. No, not at all.
- 20:09Speaker 2: The annoying thing is when Amazon Prime came in, and
- 20:12Speaker 2: if you didn't have Amazon Prime or Peacock, and you
- 20:14Speaker 2: wanted to see this standalone game, and you have to
- 20:16Speaker 2: pay for another service. But, I mean, this is all
- 20:19Speaker 2: going to be what you probably have on, whether you're
- 20:22Speaker 2: on DirecTV or YouTube. I mean, maybe they do that.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I have read that Netflix...
- 20:30Speaker 1: Is Netflix failing, Tyler? I mean, do you guys know,
- 20:34Speaker 1: is Netflix like in trouble?
- 20:35Speaker 2: I think they've spent a lot of money, so I
- 20:37Speaker 2: don't know. Their profit margins are different. But, I mean,
- 20:39Speaker 2: Netflix is a worldwide incredible product.
- 20:42Speaker 1: It is. But, I mean, did I read that it's
- 20:44Speaker 1: never even turned a profit? Am I wrong about that?
- 20:46Speaker 4: You wouldn't be wrong because a lot of the money
- 20:49Speaker 4: they use, they just get more rounds of investing.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:53Speaker 4: They're not actually turning a profit because streaming is a
- 20:57Speaker 4: money pit.
- 20:57Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 4: They've basically just been trying to get market share and
- 21:01Speaker 4: phase out licensed content and push low budget.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And that was going to be my point is, you know,
- 21:07Speaker 1: I don't know that. streaming has proven to be a
- 21:10Speaker 1: way to make bundles of money. Not yet, anyway. But
- 21:13Speaker 1: what I've read is Netflix has decided, and I think
- 21:15Speaker 1: Amazon too. Now, Amazon's a different model because they're a
- 21:18Speaker 1: division of a delivery company now. But what I've read
- 21:22Speaker 1: is that Amazon and Prime have decided, just like the
- 21:24Speaker 1: rest of the networks have, if we're going to make money,
- 21:26Speaker 1: it's going to have to be a live sporting event.
- 21:28Speaker 1: We're not going to make money streaming Bridgerton and whatever else.
- 21:34Speaker 1: We're going to make money on live sporting events. So
- 21:35Speaker 1: it wouldn't surprise me If ESPN starts to sell these
- 21:38Speaker 1: things off, unless they're prohibited from selling it to a
- 21:40Speaker 1: streaming service, and I don't know that, that they might
- 21:43Speaker 1: involve a Netflix or an Amazon because that's what these
- 21:45Speaker 1: people want to do. They want to get into the
- 21:47Speaker 1: life of this game.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Well, selfishly, as long as I have those, which I
- 21:50Speaker 2: feel like I'll have those from here on out, it's
- 21:54Speaker 2: not that big of a deal.
- 21:55Speaker 1: No, I agree with you. And I think most people
- 21:57Speaker 1: are going to pay at least for one month to
- 21:59Speaker 1: watch their team play in a playoff game. Maybe not
- 22:02Speaker 1: a regular season game, but certainly a playoff game. All right,
- 22:05Speaker 1: so that's the scene center. We've got a lot to
- 22:07Speaker 1: get to. Coach Herm going to be with us. Clay
- 22:08Speaker 1: Travis is going to be with us later in the
- 22:11Speaker 1: second half of the show, the back end of the
- 22:13Speaker 1: next round. The film guy, Brooks Austin, is going to
- 22:16Speaker 1: be with us to talk about another week of college football.
- 22:19Speaker 1: So we've got a lot to get to on the show.
- 22:21Speaker 1: It is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bad
- 22:23Speaker 1: on Sporting State. All right, it is the next round
- 22:25Speaker 1: presented by Hard Rock Bet as we return. I remind you,
- 22:28Speaker 1: those of you that are big-time coffee drinkers, I was
- 22:30Speaker 1: talking to one last night. He was five in the
- 22:32Speaker 1: list of what? You know what I'm talking about, coffee? No,
- 22:35Speaker 1: he was asking me if I drink coffee, and I
- 22:37Speaker 1: was like, no, I do not. And he said he
- 22:40Speaker 1: is a five-cup-a-day guy. My gosh. Is that a lot? Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 1: that's a lot. You know, the thing that's— Trey Black, too. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 1: that's a lot. What were you about to say?
- 22:49Speaker 2: I interrupted you. No, no, go ahead.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Straight black, five cups a day fell heavy.
- 22:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:53Speaker 1: But if you're going to do it, Crockett Coffee would
- 22:55Speaker 1: be a good way to do it, right? Started by
- 22:57Speaker 1: Clay Travis, Buck Sexton, and Buck's brother Mason. It is
- 23:00Speaker 1: named after Davy Crockett, the hunter, the storyteller, the patriot,
- 23:02Speaker 1: the backwoods legend. Davy's surfing on the back of crocodiles
- 23:06Speaker 1: right there. That's an old, old legend about Davy Crockett there.
- 23:09Speaker 1: This coffee means business. 100% pure Arabica beans, high altitude,
- 23:14Speaker 1: small batch, roasted in America's heartland. Chips fresh roasted, not
- 23:17Speaker 1: sitting on a warehouse shelf. For six months, they've got light, medium, dark, decaf, organic,
- 23:21Speaker 1: mushroom blend, whole bean, ground. Our buddy would like the
- 23:25Speaker 1: mushroom blend. You ought to send it to him.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Mushroom Dan would love it. Mushroom Dan would love it.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Whole bean, ground, or K-Cups, however you make it in
- 23:31Speaker 1: the morning, they've got it. You can set up a subscription,
- 23:34Speaker 1: and it shows up on your schedule, change it or
- 23:36Speaker 1: cancel it, anytime you want. as the free market intended.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Good coffee made in America doing some good. CrockettCoffee.com. That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T. CrockettCoffee.com.
- 23:49Speaker 1: One other thing, and this is separate from the Ross
- 23:51Speaker 1: Dellinger report. This is independent of that. It comes from
- 23:54Speaker 1: our boy Joel Clapp. Now, Clapp joins us every Monday
- 23:58Speaker 1: on the show, on the next round. He joins the
- 24:01Speaker 1: ticket out in Dallas-Fort Worth, I think every Wednesday. And
- 24:04Speaker 1: he said this in his Wednesday appearance on with the
- 24:07Speaker 1: ticket in relation to um does that.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Go viral just anywhere clad is.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I guess so maybe it's not as viral as we
- 24:14Speaker 1: do uh clad loves saying stuff i will give clad
- 24:18Speaker 1: eternal credit for this like he does not mind saying
- 24:20Speaker 1: it now.
- 24:20Speaker 2: No but what's so funny is he said well he's
- 24:22Speaker 2: like he thinks about it and he's like then he
- 24:25Speaker 2: talks himself into it okay so i'm gonna say this but.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Yeah i love my favorite part of clad interviews when
- 24:31Speaker 1: he goes god i hate seeing stuff like this on
- 24:33Speaker 1: your show Because I know he so desperately wants to
- 24:35Speaker 1: say it. And in his mind, he's fighting himself. Like,
- 24:39Speaker 1: is this going to go viral and cause me a headache?
- 24:41Speaker 6: It's just since the March Madness take, though.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Oh, no, that was the one that put him over
- 24:45Speaker 1: the edge.
- 24:46Speaker 6: That's what started it, was the March Madness take and
- 24:48Speaker 6: all the hate he got.
- 24:49Speaker 1: That's right. That was the one that put him over
- 24:51Speaker 1: the edge. And he owned it, to his credit. So
- 24:55Speaker 1: here's what he said about college football playoff expansion on
- 24:57Speaker 1: the ticket in Dallas. This is a quote from him.
- 25:00Speaker 1: The next thing that will happen almost immediately is we're
- 25:02Speaker 1: going to get scheduling agreements between the SEC and the
- 25:05Speaker 1: Big Ten. Top-end matchups, mid-tier matchups, low-end matchups, and we're
- 25:09Speaker 1: going to be expanding the valuable matchups and the non-conference
- 25:12Speaker 1: far surpassing what we have now. So basically, Klatt is
- 25:15Speaker 1: saying we're going to have a scheduling agreement between the
- 25:18Speaker 1: Big Ten and the SEC to match up kind of
- 25:21Speaker 1: the way the NFL does. So for those that don't
- 25:23Speaker 1: know how the NFL operates, so Lance, let's say it's
- 25:27Speaker 1: a year where the AFC East plays the NFC West.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And your Rams win the NFC West and San Francisco
- 25:32Speaker 1: finish the second. I know you would love that. If
- 25:34Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken, and the Bills and the Patriots finish
- 25:36Speaker 1: first and second, don't the Patriots play the Rams and
- 25:39Speaker 1: the 49ers play the Bills? I think is the way
- 25:41Speaker 1: that works, right? So that's kind of what they would do.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Which, I mean, look, if you're looking for great television games,
- 25:47Speaker 2: now on the other side of that, you're going to
- 25:48Speaker 2: get Vanderbilt versus Rutgers.
- 25:50Speaker 8: You are?
- 25:50Speaker 1: You are? I mean, I got Vanderbilt-NC State. Vanderbilt-Rutgers isn't
- 25:55Speaker 1: entirely different.
- 25:55Speaker 2: But, I mean, look, the marquee matchups will outweigh the
- 25:59Speaker 2: shitty matchups, I believe. So I kind of like this,
- 26:02Speaker 2: and I think you can also do much like the
- 26:04Speaker 2: NFL does. They do such a good job outside of
- 26:08Speaker 2: these one-offs when they do the international games. But like
- 26:13Speaker 2: a scheduling show, we've talked about this for years.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Oh, heck yeah.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I mean, how many college football fan bases would eat
- 26:21Speaker 2: this up? Because when would you do this? Like the NFL,
- 26:23Speaker 2: they used to do it in April. I guess they
- 26:25Speaker 2: still do it in April. No, they've moved it to May.
- 26:29Speaker 1: The schedule release?
- 26:30Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 2: So when do you think you would do this for college?
- 26:33Speaker 1: I would do it after the NFL. Yeah, like in June? Yeah.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I mean, that does feel a little late. Now, coaches
- 26:39Speaker 1: aren't going to like that because what they're going to
- 26:41Speaker 1: want is to have plenty of time. Maybe you even
- 26:43Speaker 1: do it right after the championship game. But I know
- 26:45Speaker 1: that's in the NFL playoffs. So let me go back.
- 26:47Speaker 2: So the NFL, you know your common opponents.
- 26:49Speaker 1: That's right.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Like right now, you already know common opponents for next year.
- 26:51Speaker 1: That's right.
- 26:52Speaker 2: So go on and have the common opponents, but how
- 26:54Speaker 2: you're going to schedule these things out.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I think coaches are going to want to know
- 26:56Speaker 1: before spring because they're going to want to use some
- 26:59Speaker 1: spring perhaps as maybe a look ahead to the first
- 27:02Speaker 1: couple of opponents there. So they're going to want to
- 27:04Speaker 1: know that. But, I mean, if you just look at it.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Give me two seconds here. Let me go back to
- 27:10Speaker 1: the final standings last year for both these. And I
- 27:14Speaker 1: would love to do it on ESPN.com. But that website has.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Does anybody else use ESPN.com?
- 27:20Speaker 4: I've used it a couple of times, and it's nearly unusable.
- 27:23Speaker 1: What has happened to it? Is yours just super slow
- 27:28Speaker 1: and the pages won't load?
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah, pages either won't load or.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I'm not backing them up, but I use it every day.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Do you really?
- 27:34Speaker 2: It's kind of the go-to for me.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah, God, I have so much trouble with ESPN.com.
- 27:38Speaker 2: So where do you typically go?
- 27:40Speaker 1: Well, I go to CBS Sports. which I'm going to
- 27:42Speaker 1: do now.
- 27:42Speaker 2: See, I don't like CBS Sports as much. I think
- 27:44Speaker 2: it's more junkier.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Oh, I'm not saying it's clean. No, I'm just saying
- 27:47Speaker 1: I can at least get the pages to load.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I don't think the functionality is as good as ESPN.com.
- 27:52Speaker 1: All right. So ESPN, or ESPN, the Big Ten versus
- 27:56Speaker 1: the SEC. If you did this last year, so Indiana
- 27:58Speaker 1: and Ohio State finished 9-0 and played in the championship game.
- 28:03Speaker 1: So you would have Indiana and Ohio State playing Georgia
- 28:07Speaker 1: and Alabama because they also played in the championship game.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Sign me right up for that, right?
- 28:10Speaker 2: Sounds good.
- 28:11Speaker 9: Yep.
- 28:12Speaker 1: So your next two on the Big Ten were Oregon, USC.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I think won the tiebreaker. I think that's the way
- 28:20Speaker 1: they've got them listed. So Oregon and USC would play
- 28:24Speaker 1: Ole Miss and Texas A & M.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Again.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Now, here's what's interesting. If you go back and look
- 28:29Speaker 1: at those games in the preseason... You would have said, Oregon,
- 28:33Speaker 1: Texas A & M, that is one heck of a
- 28:34Speaker 1: football game, and indeed it might have been, but that's
- 28:36Speaker 1: been two pretty disappointing teams. Oh, yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 2: I mean, look, but that happens in the NFL.
- 28:40Speaker 7: You do.
- 28:40Speaker 2: You know, you would have thought that the Rams and
- 28:42Speaker 2: the Chargers, that's coming up.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Think about this.
- 28:45Speaker 2: That's Halloween weekend, so that's on November 1st.
- 28:47Speaker 1: That's right. You thought that was going to be a
- 28:49Speaker 1: Super Bowl preview.
- 28:50Speaker 2: And now you're talking about a 2-4 and an 0-6. Yeah. So, look,
- 28:53Speaker 2: I mean, again, we are kind of emulating what is–
- 28:57Speaker 2: the now NFL model. And so you're going to get
- 28:59Speaker 2: some of the same situations, good and bad.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Michigan, Iowa would play Texas and Oklahoma. Boy, if
- 29:05Speaker 1: Iowa and Oklahoma played, that game might last forever.
- 29:08Speaker 2: More Michigan, Oklahoma. We already saw it.
- 29:10Speaker 1: We already saw it.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Iowa's offense is better than Michigan's.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I mean, so that's what you're looking at. You mentioned
- 29:15Speaker 1: the bottom. Let me just do the bottom two. South
- 29:17Speaker 1: Carolina and Arkansas finished dead last. You've got more Big
- 29:20Speaker 1: Ten teams than SEC. So you would have Wisconsin and
- 29:23Speaker 1: Michigan State. Playing Arkansas and South Carolina. I mean, those
- 29:29Speaker 1: aren't bad games. If you could pull this off, I
- 29:31Speaker 1: like the idea of this. I don't think Klatt just
- 29:35Speaker 1: pulls this crap out of midair. He works for Fox.
- 29:37Speaker 1: You've got to think there have been some internal discussions
- 29:39Speaker 1: on this. I mean, I would think.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I don't think Klatt just says this on Dallas Radio.
- 29:44Speaker 2: He's a pretty calculated guy. I know it seems like
- 29:47Speaker 2: he says things on the fly here.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Maybe he does.
- 29:50Speaker 2: But he knows the internal, the ongoings in the television
- 29:55Speaker 2: network world, so I don't think he would float it
- 29:57Speaker 2: out there if he didn't have some kind of substance
- 29:59Speaker 2: behind it.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's what Klatt was saying on Dallas Morning
- 30:04Speaker 1: Radio on DFW's Dallas-Fort Worth's The Ticket. So I guess
- 30:09Speaker 1: you can go to their podcast.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Is that where we did our old terrestrial shows from?
- 30:13Speaker 1: We did when we were in Dallas for Alabama-Michigan State.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Was that the only time we did a show out there?
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah, 2015, but we did like, it felt like a
- 30:21Speaker 2: week of shows.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I know, it did. But then Alabama-Oklahoma, no, it wasn't Oklahoma.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Who's Alabama play out there? Uh, Cincinnati. Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 30:31Speaker 1: You skipped that one. I think Jim did too. Did
- 30:33Speaker 1: he not? I wasn't on by myself.
- 30:34Speaker 2: No, I think both of you guys went.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Yep.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Uh, we did that one from, uh, the media hotel
- 30:39Speaker 1: from the Omni downtown. Very nice hotel, by the way.
- 30:42Speaker 1: And then is that the last time we've been out there?
- 30:45Speaker 1: Oh no. SEC media days.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 1: You didn't love Dallas.
- 30:49Speaker 2: I'm not a big Dallas guy.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Fort Worth's a better city.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I've heard that. I've never ventured over to Fort Worth.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I like Fort Worth much better than I do Dallas.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Fort Worth, to me, is what everybody thinks Dallas is. Like,
- 31:00Speaker 1: everybody thinks when you say Dallas, people are walking around
- 31:02Speaker 1: in cowboy boots and cowboy hats. That's more Fort Worth. Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 1: In my experience, anyway.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I mean, I just saw Dallas. It was nothing but
- 31:08Speaker 2: heat and homeless.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Well, those two things together are normally pretty bad, yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 4: I thought that was more Austin.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Austin's pretty... I was in Austin a couple summers ago.
- 31:19Speaker 1: It had both those things, yes.
- 31:20Speaker 2: And bats.
- 31:20Speaker 1: And bats.
- 31:21Speaker 4: I went on a bat tour when I went out
- 31:24Speaker 4: there to visit family homes.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I did not go see the bats. I heard people
- 31:27Speaker 1: say you should do that. It was pretty cool.
- 31:29Speaker 4: It is a little.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Anxiety-inducing.
- 31:33Speaker 4: If you have a fear of rabies, then yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Well, I mean, doesn't everybody have a fear of rabies?
- 31:38Speaker 1: I don't sit around and think about it, but I
- 31:39Speaker 1: guess I do have a fear of rabies.
- 31:40Speaker 4: Well, if you're somebody who thinks about it, then I
- 31:41Speaker 4: wouldn't recommend it.
- 31:42Speaker 2: But I mean, I guess if a bat was in
- 31:44Speaker 2: my house, it would be one of the things that
- 31:45Speaker 2: would cross my mind.
- 31:48Speaker 4: How about if you're on a boat going under a
- 31:50Speaker 4: bridge with hundreds of bats above you?
- 31:52Speaker 2: I'm just going to go in the cabin.
- 31:54Speaker 4: That's probably a good idea.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Probably not going to be sunning out on the deck
- 31:58Speaker 2: if we're going under a bat cave.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Here in Alabama, there's a cave up on Lake Guntersville
- 32:03Speaker 1: that bats at sunset, the bats fly out every, I
- 32:06Speaker 1: think it's, I guess it's every night. Hell, I don't
- 32:08Speaker 1: know why they wouldn't do it every night.
- 32:10Speaker 2: In my neighborhood when I was a kid, we had
- 32:11Speaker 2: a ton of bats.
- 32:12Speaker 1: In your neighborhood?
- 32:13Speaker 2: In my neighborhood, a ton of bats.
- 32:14Speaker 1: The way you describe your childhood neighborhood, it's fascinating to me, really.
- 32:19Speaker 2: It's almost a stranger thing. What was the upside down?
- 32:23Speaker 3: The upside down?
- 32:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:24Speaker 2: That was Forest Brook. It was wild.
- 32:28Speaker 1: You used to say the sun never shined there.
- 32:30Speaker 2: It didn't. But we had bats.
- 32:33Speaker 1: You had bats. The sun shined. It's like Lance grew
- 32:35Speaker 1: up in an entirely different world. And the other part is,
- 32:38Speaker 1: and I've always envisioned this, Lance tells the story. Tell
- 32:40Speaker 1: the story about how y'all used to set fire to
- 32:43Speaker 1: stuff in the gutters, right? Oh, yeah.
- 32:44Speaker 2: So we had the, it wasn't your traditional storm drain.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I think some people that live in maybe the 70s
- 32:50Speaker 2: and 80s neighborhoods know this. So it's more of the
- 32:53Speaker 2: drain that you're not going to get rats and stuff.
- 32:56Speaker 2: You're just going to get the water that is going
- 32:57Speaker 2: to go between, you know, Creek A and Creek B.
- 33:01Speaker 2: But it is the tunnels that you can actually, you
- 33:03Speaker 2: can army crawl through. And so it's the elevated. It's
- 33:07Speaker 2: not the flat manhole cover. It's the elevated where the
- 33:10Speaker 2: water goes in and you can lose baseball, you know,
- 33:14Speaker 2: soccer ball, that kind of stuff. So we would climb
- 33:16Speaker 2: in those things all the time as kids.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 33:19Speaker 2: It was just kind of adventurous. But we would so bad.
- 33:23Speaker 2: We would get a bunch of leaves and pine straw
- 33:25Speaker 2: and we would we would stick it. We were strategically,
- 33:28Speaker 2: there's like six, seven of us, and we were all
- 33:30Speaker 2: over the neighborhood, and we would stuff it in, and
- 33:32Speaker 2: then we would light it. And so it looked like
- 33:34Speaker 2: apocalypse now throughout the neighborhood on certain nights.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I think of Lance's neighborhood like this guy has been
- 33:40Speaker 1: at work all day and hates his job, and he's
- 33:43Speaker 1: fought Birmingham traffic to get back home, and he turns
- 33:46Speaker 1: in his neighborhood. The whole thing's burning. And it looks
- 33:49Speaker 1: like the end of times. The sun's not shining. It
- 33:51Speaker 1: looks like Paris. There's bats flying everywhere. We got smoke
- 33:54Speaker 1: coming out of the storm drapes.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, we were menaces, you know. But, you know,
- 34:00Speaker 2: this is why you've got to have parental guidance.
- 34:03Speaker 1: That's right. Yes, that does help.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Very, very important. Got to have a compass.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Yes, that does help. Real quick, we're going to do
- 34:10Speaker 1: CBS Sports in the next segment. CBS Sports. has done
- 34:14Speaker 1: college football playoff tears. Who is really elite in college football?
- 34:17Speaker 1: They have told us who they think will give our opinion.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I just want to run through real quick since it's
- 34:20Speaker 1: a Thursday night NFL. Just a few of these NFL
- 34:23Speaker 1: games with our friends at Hard Rock Bet. Just, you know,
- 34:25Speaker 1: whatever your gut. I don't want you to ruin lanceslike.com.
- 34:28Speaker 1: 21-10 right now. 21-10 in the NFL. 21 wins through
- 34:31Speaker 1: 31 games in the NFL.
- 34:34Speaker 9: 65%.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Your gut reaction to these. I do believe it is
- 34:37Speaker 1: a Saints home game that they are playing in Paris.
- 34:39Speaker 1: That would make sense with the Saints' wrench history there.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Steelers 3.5. I don't know how you factor in travel
- 34:48Speaker 1: and all that.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Yeah, travel's tough. It was one of the things I
- 34:50Speaker 2: did factor last week when we had the Texans over
- 34:52Speaker 2: Jacksonville because Jacksonville traditionally has not played well overseas. And
- 34:57Speaker 2: this one right now, I would take the points. Yeah,
- 35:01Speaker 2: I backed New Orleans last week. We got away with it.
- 35:04Speaker 2: They kind of fell apart in that fourth quarter against J.J. McCarthy,
- 35:06Speaker 2: but they did hold on. I kind of lean New
- 35:09Speaker 2: Orleans plus points here.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Browns laying one and a half at the Titans. The
- 35:13Speaker 1: Titans just got a win.
- 35:14Speaker 2: They're about to get their second.
- 35:15Speaker 1: You think so. So Titans went out right.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I think Titans went out right. But I have tried
- 35:19Speaker 2: to condition myself in the NFL to not play awful teams.
- 35:24Speaker 2: And Tennessee is an awful team. They are an awful team.
- 35:26Speaker 2: I know they're coming off a win. I think Cleveland
- 35:28Speaker 2: at 4-2 under Todd Munkin is fool's gold. I don't
- 35:31Speaker 2: think it can continue. But Cleveland's got a salty defense,
- 35:34Speaker 2: and now you're taking on a Tennessee offense that really
- 35:36Speaker 2: doesn't produce points. So, by the way, you can get
- 35:38Speaker 2: tickets for $ 43. As low as $ 43 to an NFL game.
- 35:42Speaker 1: In Nashville?
- 35:42Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I mean, the fans have tapped out.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:46Speaker 1: I guess they're just waiting on that new stadium. I mean,
- 35:47Speaker 1: if this were in the new stadium, it'd be a
- 35:49Speaker 1: more expensive ticket. It's going to be gorgeous weather, too. Like,
- 35:52Speaker 1: I have been in awful weather. At Nissan Stadium. Oh,
- 35:54Speaker 1: I have too.
- 35:56Speaker 2: One of the coldest games I've ever been to.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I stood in the sleet one day and watched
- 35:59Speaker 1: Tua act like he'd never seen a football in his life.
- 36:02Speaker 1: It was just awful weather. A huge AFC Central matchup
- 36:06Speaker 1: as the Bengals take on the Ravens. and the Bengals
- 36:09Speaker 1: are a one-and-a-half-point road favorite at the injury-played Ravens.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's the thing. This is all dictated
- 36:15Speaker 2: on Lamar Jackson right now. I would lean the road Bengals,
- 36:19Speaker 2: but that's one of those that don't foresee me playing.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I only bring this game up because I saw this earlier.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I was reading today. I think it was CBS Sports
- 36:27Speaker 1: was doing bold NFL projections this week, and one of
- 36:31Speaker 1: the writers said, my bold NFL prediction is Bo Nix
- 36:33Speaker 1: gets benched. the Broncos are four and a half point favorites.
- 36:36Speaker 1: The Cardinals coming off the win over the Rams. Could
- 36:39Speaker 1: you see Bo Nix getting benched?
- 36:41Speaker 2: Uh, I mean, possibly, you know, the one thing you've
- 36:44Speaker 2: got with Bo is you've got a track record of
- 36:46Speaker 2: him being really good in the fourth quarter. Now he
- 36:48Speaker 2: wasn't that this past week on last Thursday night when
- 36:50Speaker 2: we were up in, was it puckers and Gatlinburg?
- 36:53Speaker 1: Is that the name of it?
- 36:54Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I think that was the sports bar where you watch
- 36:56Speaker 2: the Dodgers get swept out and, and Denver hold all
- 36:58Speaker 2: those brewers fans. Um, But what direction do you go?
- 37:04Speaker 2: Jared Stidham, we saw this in the AFC Championship game.
- 37:07Speaker 2: As bad as Bo Nix might be playing right now,
- 37:09Speaker 2: Stidham is not the better option.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't see him getting benched.
- 37:14Speaker 2: I don't know what you do. Now, does Denver reset
- 37:16Speaker 2: at quarterback next year? Possibly, but right now I think
- 37:19Speaker 2: you're kind of handcuffed to Bo.
- 37:20Speaker 1: We were talking NFC North earlier. Packers at the Lions,
- 37:24Speaker 1: and Lions are a three-point favorite over the Pack.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the Pack's playing great right now. They're
- 37:28Speaker 2: about to get Josh Jacobs back, so they've been doing
- 37:30Speaker 2: it through the air. Matthew Golden is turning into an
- 37:33Speaker 2: exceptional receiver, by the way, for Jordan Love. I've got
- 37:36Speaker 2: a feeling this is Detroit's afternoon.
- 37:39Speaker 7: Okay.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I'm not sure if you know this. The Rams are
- 37:43Speaker 1: at the Raiders.
- 37:44Speaker 2: I didn't know that.
- 37:45Speaker 1: That's at 325 Central Time.
- 37:46Speaker 2: I had this incredible trip planned. I've had to cancel
- 37:49Speaker 2: that trip, but kind of glad I did now because
- 37:51Speaker 2: the Rams are only a three-and-a-half point favorite. It was
- 37:53Speaker 2: like six-and-a-half, and now it's down to three-and-a-half.
- 37:55Speaker 1: What does that tell you?
- 37:57Speaker 2: I think you've got to be all over Vegas in
- 37:59Speaker 2: this one.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Y'all are going to fall to two and five, you think?
- 38:03Speaker 2: I don't know if we fall to two and five.
- 38:04Speaker 2: You might be able to get out of there with
- 38:05Speaker 2: a skinny three-point win.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're worried.
- 38:08Speaker 2: I'm very, very concerned. I mean, look, not even close
- 38:11Speaker 2: to whole. This Rams team has now become one of
- 38:13Speaker 2: the biggest. Not only is confidence going the other way,
- 38:15Speaker 2: just the way the, I don't know, the way they're playing.
- 38:18Speaker 2: And maybe desperation will turn them around, but they're missing
- 38:21Speaker 2: key pieces now.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Again, all these games available at HardRock.bet. These point spreads
- 38:26Speaker 1: we're giving you at HardRock.bet. Just a couple more real
- 38:28Speaker 1: quick before we break. The Sunday night game is fantastic.
- 38:31Speaker 1: How often do you think you can get an undefeated
- 38:33Speaker 1: Chiefs team catching points? And they're doing that at Seattle,
- 38:36Speaker 1: catching three, catching a full field goal at Seattle.
- 38:38Speaker 2: They need more than three. Seattle has got to figure
- 38:44Speaker 2: out how they can get back to running the football.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Jadarian Price going on IR was a big deal, obviously
- 38:49Speaker 2: losing Kenneth Walker. And Kenneth Walker now comes home to Lumen.
- 38:53Speaker 2: to get a little revenge on the team that didn't
- 38:55Speaker 2: want him or didn't want to pay him that big contract. Boy,
- 38:59Speaker 2: Kansas City has made out like bandits on that. But
- 39:01Speaker 2: I think this is going to be an uphill climb
- 39:03Speaker 2: for the Chiefs, just giving you an early lean on
- 39:06Speaker 2: the Seattle Seahawks minus the three.
- 39:08Speaker 1: And then finally, and this is we were just talking about,
- 39:10Speaker 1: the SEC and Big Ten doing this scheduling agreement, and
- 39:13Speaker 1: you do it in advance, and you think you've got
- 39:15Speaker 1: these great matchups. And I'm sure when ESPN said, I'll
- 39:18Speaker 1: tell you what we'll take in week six, is we'll
- 39:20Speaker 1: take the Cowboys, excuse me, week seven, We'll take the
- 39:22Speaker 1: Cowboys at the Eagles. Big NFC East matchup. The Cowboys
- 39:26Speaker 1: are going to be good this year. Jalen Hurts and
- 39:28Speaker 1: the Eagles are the team they probably got to get
- 39:30Speaker 1: through to win this whole thing and boy is that
- 39:32Speaker 1: a yucky looking matchup.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Yeah I mean it really is and you know just
- 39:35Speaker 2: yuck I mean it's it's Tanner McKee the former Stanford
- 39:39Speaker 2: product who wasn't terrible in the 25-14 loss to the
- 39:42Speaker 2: Panthers but like he is not going to be the
- 39:45Speaker 2: answer uh, for this Philadelphia offense. And, you know, on
- 39:48Speaker 2: the other side, Dallas is struggling on both sides of
- 39:50Speaker 2: the ball. Dak's coming off arguably his worst game. And,
- 39:53Speaker 2: you know, the defense has been struggling under new defense coordinator,
- 39:56Speaker 2: Christian Parker. So this is a nasty looking game.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Terrible game.
- 40:00Speaker 2: And Dallas four and a half point favorite road favorite.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Opened as a three point dog before the Jalen Hurts news.
- 40:05Speaker 1: And then, uh, now are a four and a half
- 40:07Speaker 1: point road favorite.
- 40:08Speaker 2: So, I mean, Tanner McKee cost you seven and a
- 40:10Speaker 2: half points on that swing around.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Does he feel good about that, you think? Probably.
- 40:14Speaker 2: He probably doesn't. If I was him, I would just
- 40:15Speaker 2: avoid looking at any of that stuff.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I mean, imagine Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who no
- 40:19Speaker 1: longer like working together, apparently, and then you've got to
- 40:21Speaker 1: go watch that game.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Now, is it true they almost came to physical blows?
- 40:24Speaker 1: I read the New York Post article this morning, and
- 40:27Speaker 1: perhaps there's been a different article that you're referencing. That
- 40:30Speaker 1: one did not say that. It just said it became
- 40:34Speaker 1: such a I guess, argument, a loud argument that basically
- 40:38Speaker 1: Joe Buck apologized to the staff the next game. It
- 40:41Speaker 1: was like, hey, that's on me. I apologize it got
- 40:44Speaker 1: to that. Let's just focus on doing the games.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I wonder, and look, in these internal situations, you never
- 40:50Speaker 2: know what gets everything instigated. But you talked about the
- 40:55Speaker 2: root of the problem or what the perception is, is
- 40:58Speaker 2: Joe got paid and Troy didn't.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I think Troy thought we're a team. Let's negotiate as
- 41:03Speaker 1: a team because the two of us together or stronger negotiation.
- 41:06Speaker 2: But how does this become an outward thing?
- 41:10Speaker 1: Well, I don't know. Well, I guess because Troy is
- 41:12Speaker 1: frustrated enough that he's about to go.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm wondering, like, just, no, I get it from, like,
- 41:17Speaker 2: us knowing now.
- 41:18Speaker 9: Right.
- 41:19Speaker 2: But I'm talking about for those two to be feuding, like,
- 41:22Speaker 2: that animated in front of, like, coworkers. Like, what do
- 41:25Speaker 2: you think actually triggered that?
- 41:27Speaker 1: Well, apparently, according to the New York Post article, I
- 41:30Speaker 1: think they were in the booth prior to the game
- 41:32Speaker 1: at SoFi. Or maybe it was a team meeting or whatever.
- 41:34Speaker 1: And Troy, according to the New York Post reports... had
- 41:38Speaker 1: become very quiet, giving him the cold shoulder, not responding
- 41:43Speaker 1: to him and stuff like that. And then Joe finally said, look,
- 41:45Speaker 1: is this really the way you're going to act?
- 41:48Speaker 2: And then he might have exploded.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and then Troy was, you know, Troy.
- 41:52Speaker 2: I thought we were a team.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Yeah, really.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Greedy.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:55Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:56Speaker 1: But coming to blows, I don't know. Joe Buck, if
- 41:58Speaker 1: he's smart, he didn't let it get anywhere close to
- 42:00Speaker 1: blows because Troy Aikman would dribble him in the ground.
- 42:04Speaker 1: So I would think not, but who knows. That was
- 42:07Speaker 1: not in the New York Post report I read. I
- 42:09Speaker 1: hate it. It's come to that. I really like that crew,
- 42:11Speaker 1: and it doesn't appear they're very long for the world
- 42:14Speaker 1: right now.
- 42:14Speaker 2: But again, I think Joe does a good job on
- 42:17Speaker 2: the play-by-play. I'm not a big fan. I love me
- 42:19Speaker 2: some Troy Aikman, so I'm very interested to see how
- 42:21Speaker 2: they pair these these next two up with whoever they
- 42:24Speaker 2: pair them up with.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Hardrock.bet backslash clay. Hardrock.bet backslash clay. For all those games
- 42:29Speaker 1: we just talked about, right there in the NFL, more
- 42:31Speaker 1: NFL with the coach, Coach Herm, coming up in just
- 42:34Speaker 1: a few moments. When we return, who's really even elite
- 42:37Speaker 1: in college football? We try to answer that question next.
- 42:39Speaker 1: The next round continues on Sport and Stay, presented by Hardrock.bet.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Hardrock.bet backslash clay. Who's J-Boy, by the way? J-Boy, I
- 42:48Speaker 1: do not know.
- 42:49Speaker 2: I know Fat Joe. I do not know J-Boy.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Should I, you think?
- 42:53Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I didn't know Fat Joe until they did the.
- 42:55Speaker 2: I've never understood how certain people, you have to call
- 43:00Speaker 2: them out on their endorsements.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean.
- 43:02Speaker 2: You remember, there's Brian Aragpo.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I do remember that. I mean, it's a true
- 43:08Speaker 1: sign of celebrity if they don't have to do that
- 43:10Speaker 1: in a commercial, right? Like, if the commercial producers don't
- 43:13Speaker 1: feel it necessary to say, hey, that's Frank Thomas. You
- 43:17Speaker 1: remember the Big Hurt doing the Nugenics commercial or whatever
- 43:19Speaker 1: it was? And it was like... Are you Baseball Hall
- 43:23Speaker 1: of Famer Frank Thomas? I am. You know, I mean,
- 43:26Speaker 1: I hate those commercials, by the way.
- 43:27Speaker 2: I'm almost ready to say him. Doug Flutie. It's such
- 43:30Speaker 2: a weird force commercial. Who is Jay Boyd?
- 43:33Speaker 4: So Jay Boyd is.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Oh, Boyd. Yeah, Jay Boyd. I thought it was Jay Boyd.
- 43:38Speaker 7: I did, too.
- 43:40Speaker 4: He is a stand-in for the Everyman. He's Joe Everyman, basically.
- 43:46Speaker 5: Okay.
- 43:47Speaker 2: I don't understand that, but okay.
- 43:49Speaker 4: It could be you hanging out with Fat Joe.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Could be. I'm Ryan Everyman.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Okay. This feels like the progressive commercial where, you know,
- 43:58Speaker 2: don't become your parents.
- 43:59Speaker 1: I love those commercials.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I love the social media influencer. So you sell hats?
- 44:04Speaker 1: No, he does not sell hats. I love those.
- 44:07Speaker 2: They're very, very good.
- 44:09Speaker 1: So you work, what is it he says?
- 44:11Speaker 2: You work at the thrift store?
- 44:12Speaker 1: So you work at the thrift store?
- 44:13Speaker 2: So you just open a box of sneakers and people watch?
- 44:17Speaker 1: Those are such good commercials. Clay Travis Law bringing you
- 44:20Speaker 1: part of the show before we discuss who is elite
- 44:22Speaker 1: in college football.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Hey, accidents do not wait for a good time. One
- 44:25Speaker 2: bad moment, a wreck of fall. Doctor who wasn't paying
- 44:27Speaker 2: attention and suddenly you're fighting an insurance company that does
- 44:30Speaker 2: this every single day. That's why our friend Clay started
- 44:32Speaker 2: Clay Travis Law. Built a firm around one idea. People
- 44:35Speaker 2: deserve someone willing to pay attention, ask those hard questions,
- 44:38Speaker 2: and push back when things don't add up. Experienced trial

- 45:03Speaker 1: So Brad Crawford, CBSSports.com, did tiers of college football playoff contenders.
- 45:09Speaker 1: So the elite in Tier A, Tier B, Tier C.
- 45:13Speaker 1: On and on and on. He's got three teams in
- 45:15Speaker 1: Tier A. Three Tier A teams. Three top-tier college football
- 45:20Speaker 1: playoff contenders.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Do you want me to tell you who these three
- 45:21Speaker 2: teams are?
- 45:22Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to tell you who you think they
- 45:23Speaker 1: should be, or you can guess what Brad does. Either way,
- 45:25Speaker 1: those two may line up. Who do you think, if
- 45:27Speaker 1: there are only three, who should they be?
- 45:30Speaker 2: They should be... I mean, if you're being realistic, it
- 45:32Speaker 2: should be... Oh, man, three.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Three of them.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Well, right now, because of Ohio State, not only what
- 45:38Speaker 2: you've got with Julian Sam, but Jacoby Jackson... Just had
- 45:41Speaker 2: a procedure on the foot, and he's going to miss
- 45:43Speaker 2: multiple weeks. I would go Miami.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Correct.
- 45:46Speaker 2: I would go Georgia.
- 45:47Speaker 1: He did. The next one is.
- 45:51Speaker 2: I think I would go Notre Dame.
- 45:52Speaker 1: He does. He does, but that's the one you really
- 45:54Speaker 1: have to think on. I'm still not 100% sold on Miami.
- 46:00Speaker 2: No, I'm not at all.
- 46:02Speaker 1: I mean, I know everybody plays close games. Everybody plays
- 46:05Speaker 1: close games. I mean, Georgia, for Pete's sake, just lost
- 46:08Speaker 1: to Auburn, so I've still got them in there. But
- 46:10Speaker 1: Miami having to go to double overtime to beat Florida State,
- 46:13Speaker 1: it's a rivalry game. I get all those things. That's
- 46:16Speaker 1: not really even why I'm not sold on them. I'm
- 46:18Speaker 1: just not– I don't know what it is, but I'm
- 46:20Speaker 1: not 100% sold.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Look, the Corey Heatherman defense last year when you had
- 46:25Speaker 2: Mesidor and Bain, it was different.
- 46:26Speaker 1: It was the biggest story of the playoffs.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yeah, look, they were able to attack the quarterback. For
- 46:31Speaker 2: all three levels of that defense– It was just completely different.
- 46:35Speaker 2: And this year, I think there's going to be offenses
- 46:37Speaker 2: that really can take advantage. You saw it earlier in
- 46:39Speaker 2: the season with Wake Forest. And the problem is now
- 46:42Speaker 2: we don't get to really see Miami take on those
- 46:44Speaker 2: kind of offenses. You'll get to see it against Notre Dame,
- 46:46Speaker 2: and I think they'll get exposed.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Again, we talked yesterday, though. That trap game with North
- 46:50Speaker 1: Carolina is interesting.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Yeah, 100%.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Tier B has got one, two, three, four, five teams
- 46:57Speaker 1: in it. And there is, I don't think, there's zero
- 46:59Speaker 1: chance you would get his five. But who would you,
- 47:02Speaker 1: and you don't have to do five. I'm just saying,
- 47:04Speaker 1: who would you say are Tier B teams? If that's
- 47:05Speaker 1: your Tier A, who's.
- 47:07Speaker 2: Your Tier B? I mean, BYU's got to be there
- 47:09Speaker 2: now because, yeah, they proved it. Indiana's got to be there.
- 47:12Speaker 1: He's got them.
- 47:12Speaker 2: I think Ole Miss has got to be there.
- 47:13Speaker 1: He's got them.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Then it gets a little trickier. I think based on
- 47:19Speaker 2: the fact they've got three road wins, and I don't know,
- 47:22Speaker 2: I cannot believe I'm saying this, but three road wins
- 47:24Speaker 2: in the SEC, I think he's going to put Kentucky
- 47:26Speaker 2: in there.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Because that's the one I did not think you would get.
- 47:29Speaker 1: And let me just say what Brad Crawford of CBS
- 47:31Speaker 1: Sports says about Kentucky.
- 47:32Speaker 2: And then would the fifth be Ole Miss? You already
- 47:34Speaker 2: had Ole Miss. Oh, I already had Ole Miss. Would
- 47:36Speaker 2: he go?
- 47:38Speaker 1: You've already mentioned them in your discussion earlier, but they've
- 47:41Speaker 1: got injuries now.
- 47:43Speaker 2: Ohio State, yeah, of course. Yeah, I mean, I was
- 47:45Speaker 2: going down the list and didn't even look back for that.
- 47:47Speaker 1: So you've nailed it here. So here's what he says
- 47:49Speaker 1: of Kentucky. And it's interesting. Would you have them as
- 47:52Speaker 1: a Tier B player?
- 47:54Speaker 2: I mean, I still don't believe I was on with
- 47:56Speaker 2: our friends from visa and last night and I was like, I,
- 47:58Speaker 2: you know, I backed Oklahoma and I just, I don't
- 48:01Speaker 2: know what's going on. Like I give Will Stein a
- 48:05Speaker 2: ton of credit, but, but sooner or later this, and
- 48:08Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if this weekend's bad Vanderbilt.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Yeah. Somebody sent us a screenshot of your visa and visit.
- 48:13Speaker 1: They were watching it and send it to us on
- 48:14Speaker 1: social media. I can't remember what they were saying about it. Um,
- 48:18Speaker 1: I mean, it was nothing negative that you were on
- 48:20Speaker 1: vSAN last night. Do you do that weekly?
- 48:22Speaker 2: I don't do it weekly. I think I've done it
- 48:25Speaker 2: four times this season, so about every other week.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:29Speaker 1: That's cool. Have you been to Circa and seen their setup?
- 48:32Speaker 7: No.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Again, that was one of the things I was going
- 48:33Speaker 2: to do this weekend.
- 48:35Speaker 1: They've got a cool setup.
- 48:36Speaker 2: The more we talk about this, I might just hop
- 48:38Speaker 2: that plane.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Oh, wait a minute. So now you're back on.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I doubt it, but I'm just saying because you and
- 48:42Speaker 2: I would be at Bunkers on Friday, and you were
- 48:45Speaker 2: telling me the easiest route would be just jump over
- 48:48Speaker 2: to Atlanta, get the direct to Vegas.
- 48:50Speaker 1: That's what I'd do if I were you. were you
- 48:51Speaker 1: yeah if you're going.
- 48:52Speaker 2: The problem with that is when I get back to
- 48:54Speaker 2: Atlanta having to get in the car and drive after
- 48:56Speaker 2: a that's always the worst part after 48 hours or
- 48:59Speaker 2: 72 hours in Vegas I don't think I can do
- 49:01Speaker 2: 72 anymore yeah.
- 49:02Speaker 1: That is always the worst part I have uh for
- 49:05Speaker 1: those that are watching throughout the country Birmingham has a
- 49:07Speaker 1: good airport we just don't have a ton of direct
- 49:09Speaker 1: flights so if you want to fly to and and
- 49:12Speaker 1: and by the way.
- 49:12Speaker 2: I think it's 12 total direct cities that we can
- 49:15Speaker 2: go to.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Yeah it's not a ton And they're, you know, it's
- 49:17Speaker 1: your major hubs, obviously. You know, you can go to Dallas, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix.
- 49:25Speaker 1: They've got some directs to Vegas, Orlando for Disney, New York, Washington, D.C.
- 49:30Speaker 1: You know, you've got some directs. But there aren't enough.
- 49:33Speaker 1: And if you just want a true direct flight, you've
- 49:35Speaker 1: got to go to Atlanta sometimes. And as I tell
- 49:37Speaker 1: people that are new here, If you die in Birmingham,
- 49:40Speaker 1: you have a layover in Atlanta on your way to heaven.
- 49:42Speaker 1: I mean, that's just the way it works in Birmingham.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Well, and that's the thing. Like, we might not have
- 49:45Speaker 2: those directs, and I hate having the connector. But, man,
- 49:49Speaker 2: our airport is so accessible.
- 49:51Speaker 1: It's so easy in and out. That's why I love
- 49:53Speaker 1: flying out of Birmingham. But you either got to get
- 49:56Speaker 1: lucky with one of those directs, or you got to
- 49:58Speaker 1: take a connector somewhere.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Well, and that's the thing. And I think the only
- 50:00Speaker 2: direct to Vegas is, like, I think there's, like, an
- 50:03Speaker 2: 11 in the morning. There might be a 1 in
- 50:04Speaker 2: the afternoon.
- 50:06Speaker 1: So the other option... Is you drive to Atlanta and
- 50:09Speaker 1: fly direct. And that is great. It's all fun and
- 50:11Speaker 1: games driving. Well, driving to Atlanta is never fun. It's
- 50:14Speaker 1: all fun and games until you come home and you're exhausted.
- 50:17Speaker 1: And it's been a long trip. And you're like, I
- 50:20Speaker 1: got to drive from Atlanta to Birmingham now, don't I?
- 50:22Speaker 1: And it's only a 30-minute flight. Like, if you just
- 50:24Speaker 1: do the flight, it's 30 minutes. But it's a pain.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it really is.
- 50:27Speaker 1: But I tell you, when I'm driving home from Atlanta
- 50:29Speaker 1: after those trips, I'm like, boy, that 30-minute flight would
- 50:31Speaker 1: feel good right now. Would feel a lot better. If
- 50:33Speaker 1: there's a way I could.
- 50:34Speaker 2: But what I hate is, like, you fly over Birmingham.
- 50:36Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, can you just drop me off somehow?
- 50:38Speaker 1: Like, can I parachute?
- 50:39Speaker 2: Like, I'm looking at home.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Yeah, you're coming back from the West Coast, and you
- 50:42Speaker 1: fly over Birmingham to Atlanta.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and then I got to deplane once I get
- 50:45Speaker 2: to Atlanta. I got to get sometimes in a rental,
- 50:48Speaker 2: or I've got to get in my car, and then
- 50:50Speaker 2: I've got to drive all the way back.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Uh tier c back to tier c tier c is
- 50:55Speaker 1: alabama lsu tennessee texas tech ucla utah tier d florida
- 51:00Speaker 1: houston iowa missouri texas southern cal and wake do you
- 51:05Speaker 1: think there's anybody you would move up out of either
- 51:07Speaker 1: one of.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Those no where was texas tier c.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Texas was in tier c with teams like tennessee no
- 51:12Speaker 1: i'm sorry texas was in tier d okay where's florida
- 51:16Speaker 1: florida's in tier d with texas who they just beat
- 51:19Speaker 1: Missouri is not in any of these. Missouri is in
- 51:20Speaker 1: Tier D with Houston, Iowa. Let me do Tier D again.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Tier D, this is your last group. Florida, Houston, Iowa, Missouri, Texas,
- 51:29Speaker 1: Southern Cal, and Wake. Boy, nobody believes in 6-1 Southern Cal. Nobody.
- 51:36Speaker 1: You're among that group and you're a Southern Cal fan.
- 51:37Speaker 2: It's fool's gold. If they're able to go back to Wisconsin,
- 51:42Speaker 2: Wisconsin Central Time, right?
- 51:45Speaker 1: Yes. Brooks used to live up there. Brooks is Wisconsin
- 51:47Speaker 1: Central Time.
- 51:48Speaker 2: I think it is.
- 51:49Speaker 1: The entire state.
- 51:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:51Speaker 2: So if they can go back to central time, they've
- 51:53Speaker 2: been so bad in the central and eastern time zones.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Now they got a break with how bad Penn State's playing,
- 51:58Speaker 2: but still it was a win on the road.
- 51:59Speaker 1: Still a tight win.
- 52:02Speaker 2: I thought Wisconsin's offense last week against UCLA was a
- 52:06Speaker 2: huge hit. I thought Colton Joseph was kind of an
- 52:08Speaker 2: upgrade at the quarterback position. I'm not so sure now.
- 52:11Speaker 2: But anyway, if they were able to go to Camp
- 52:14Speaker 2: Randall and get that win in prime time, got to
- 52:16Speaker 2: give them a little bit of credit. But that's one
- 52:17Speaker 2: of those games like, To me, that is a show-me
- 52:20Speaker 2: game for USC, and if you lose it and you
- 52:22Speaker 2: drop to two losses already with Ohio State coming up
- 52:25Speaker 2: next week, I just don't believe in this team.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Well, if they win this one, if they win this one,
- 52:34Speaker 1: then you've still got a game in hand. I mean,
- 52:36Speaker 1: keep in mind now, a two-loss Big Ten team is
- 52:39Speaker 1: in this thing, right? Because I think we're going to
- 52:40Speaker 1: start picking through maybe some three-loss Big Ten teams. So
- 52:43Speaker 1: a two-loss Big Ten team is in this thing. If
- 52:46Speaker 1: you can win this one, Ohio State and Indiana, you
- 52:49Speaker 1: can at least split those.
- 52:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 52:52Speaker 1: If you lose this one, you've got to sweep Ohio
- 52:54Speaker 1: State and Indiana and one of those on the road.
- 52:56Speaker 1: I just don't see it happening.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Yeah, look, and I think now USC with, obviously, you know,
- 53:00Speaker 2: the quarterback situation with Julian Sam being out and Jacoby Jackson,
- 53:03Speaker 2: offensive line still not whole. I think USC can get
- 53:06Speaker 2: Ohio State, but I don't think right now they're in
- 53:10Speaker 2: a position to go into Bloomington and win that game.
- 53:12Speaker 2: You know, they really need the next two weeks. You
- 53:15Speaker 2: can lay down against Indiana. You've got the second loss there.
- 53:18Speaker 2: Then you've got to lay up with Maryland at home.
- 53:20Speaker 2: And then it comes down to the victory bell at UCLA.
- 53:24Speaker 1: It's an interesting finish for them. Ohio State at home,
- 53:26Speaker 1: bye week at Indiana. Maryland, who's on an interim coach,
- 53:29Speaker 1: and then at UCLA.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Oh, I would have said before the season, like, book Wisconsin,
- 53:34Speaker 2: book Maryland, book UCLA. The two difficult ones were Ohio State, Indiana.
- 53:38Speaker 1: I know.
- 53:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I'm almost to the point where at
- 53:42Speaker 2: UCLA it's become more difficult than Ohio State at home.
- 53:46Speaker 3: Wow.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Backup quarterback.
- 53:47Speaker 1: That is true. Backup quarterback.
- 53:49Speaker 2: But backup quarterback for UCLA, so what am I saying?
- 53:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 53:54Speaker 2: Those four of the final five games for USC are
- 53:57Speaker 2: extremely difficult. I will be absolutely shocked if they're able
- 54:00Speaker 2: to go 4-1, but That's.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Three top ten teams right now they've got to play.
- 54:04Speaker 1: Ohio State, Indiana, and UCLA, as crazy.
- 54:06Speaker 2: As that sounds.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Good luck. All right, Coach Herm Edwards joins us next
- 54:09Speaker 1: to talk some more NFL with Coach Herm. Clay Travis
- 54:11Speaker 1: follows him. It is the next round presented by Hard
- 54:15Speaker 1: Rock Bet on Sporting State. All right, it is Sporting
- 54:17Speaker 1: State's the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet. We
- 54:20Speaker 1: go to hour number two. Coach Herm Edwards is about
- 54:22Speaker 1: to join us to talk a little NFL with us.
- 54:25Speaker 1: as it fires back up tonight tonight we got some
- 54:29Speaker 1: NFL action on Amazon Prime as we've got the Patriots
- 54:33Speaker 1: taking on the Bears to four and two teams that
- 54:37Speaker 1: will be playing tonight the Patriots and the Bears again
- 54:41Speaker 1: as we talked about it's two teams that have been
- 54:43Speaker 1: you know they've been great at times but there's not
- 54:48Speaker 1: too long ago we were asking the question could Drake
- 54:51Speaker 1: may do it in this league.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, well, you know, the runner-up to Matt
- 54:55Speaker 2: Stafford and the MVP voting last year had an incredible season,
- 54:59Speaker 2: you know, going to a Super Bowl. But the first
- 55:02Speaker 2: couple of weeks were just bad for Drake May, and
- 55:04Speaker 2: he has completely flipped that around. This Patriots team has
- 55:07Speaker 2: won three consecutive games. Again, only one pick over that
- 55:10Speaker 2: three-game winning streak right now. So both of these teams
- 55:13Speaker 2: coming in a lot more healthy than they were.
- 55:15Speaker 1: A couple of weeks ago. By the way, before we
- 55:17Speaker 1: go to Coach Herm, speaking of Matt Stafford, did you
- 55:19Speaker 1: see that report? in the wake of the firing of
- 55:22Speaker 1: Chris Ballard in Indianapolis, how close they were to trading
- 55:24Speaker 1: for Stafford instead of the Rams, that Stafford was so close,
- 55:28Speaker 1: thought it was such a possibility, they were already shopping
- 55:30Speaker 1: for homes in Indianapolis. Wow. So you were that far
- 55:33Speaker 1: from him being a Colt and not a Ram.
- 55:36Speaker 2: And never having that 2021 Super Bowl championship year.
- 55:41Speaker 1: That would hurt you. But you would have never known
- 55:42Speaker 1: what you didn't have. I mean, I guess y'all would
- 55:44Speaker 1: have stuck with golf, right?
- 55:45Speaker 2: Or Deshaun Watson.
- 55:47Speaker 9: Oh.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:49Speaker 1: I hope that went better for you than.
- 55:52Speaker 2: At a lot of massage parlors in L.A.
- 55:56Speaker 1: There are. There are, in fact, a lot of massage
- 55:58Speaker 1: parlors in L.A. Before we get to Coach Herm, can
- 56:01Speaker 1: you tell us about– you did Clay Travis Hall, right?
- 56:04Speaker 1: I did, yeah. I'm going to pull it down a
- 56:05Speaker 1: way here. I guess I need to tell you about
- 56:08Speaker 1: Perfect 10. That's what I need to do. Perfect 10 Mortgage.

- 57:04Speaker 1: to our friend, the coach, Herm Edwards. Welcome in, coach.
- 57:07Speaker 1: Hope you're doing well today, my friend.
- 57:09Speaker 7: I am well. That was a long read that you had.
- 57:13Speaker 7: Hopefully they're paying you guys a lot of money.
- 57:15Speaker 2: For that read.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Tons, Coach. Tons. Tons.
- 57:18Speaker 7: I guess. That was a long one. That was almost
- 57:20Speaker 7: a minute read.
- 57:21Speaker 1: Oh, almost a minute. Okay, it was supposed to be
- 57:23Speaker 1: a minute. So, Coach, you know, you've dealt with a
- 57:26Speaker 1: play clock before, so you know. I mean, when a
- 57:28Speaker 1: minute is, you know, play clock was running down. Coach
- 57:31Speaker 1: was telling us, get the snap off, get the snap off,
- 57:33Speaker 1: get the snap off.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Coach, can we start with what is probably the most
- 57:37Speaker 2: interesting story in football this year, and that is the
- 57:39Speaker 2: 2-4 Rams, and now injuries are a part of this.
- 57:43Speaker 2: Going into the season, it is amazing that people are like,
- 57:46Speaker 2: and you know this, you played it, you coached it,
- 57:48Speaker 2: but this team is going to win the Super Bowl.
- 57:51Speaker 2: You can never say that going into a season. What
- 57:55Speaker 2: do you think went wrong?
- 57:58Speaker 7: Well.
- 57:59Speaker 5: Obviously, the hype of it all and everyone was, a
- 58:03Speaker 5: lot of people were on board. I thought they were
- 58:05Speaker 5: going to be very good as well. And they just
- 58:08Speaker 5: seemed to really not play up to their potential. Now,
- 58:13Speaker 5: injuries had something to do with it, but everybody's injured.
- 58:16Speaker 5: I mean, every time you look around the NFL, someone's
- 58:18Speaker 5: getting hurt, right? I mean, it's just one of those deals.
- 58:20Speaker 5: But they just haven't lived up to the expectations. A
- 58:24Speaker 5: lack of a running game, I think, for the most part.
- 58:27Speaker 5: not be able to get the ball down the field.
- 58:30Speaker 5: They're a very explosive offense, and they have just struggled.
- 58:34Speaker 5: I mean, the quarterback's been hit a lot. I mean,
- 58:36Speaker 5: they don't even look like the same team they were
- 58:37Speaker 5: last year.
- 58:39Speaker 1: They have not been, obviously, and there's another one in
- 58:41Speaker 1: that market that is underperforming as well. Equally or maybe
- 58:45Speaker 1: more puzzling are the Chargers because they haven't dealt with
- 58:47Speaker 1: some of the same injuries, Coach, but this is still
- 58:50Speaker 1: an 0-6 club. What in the world is going wrong
- 58:53Speaker 1: for the other L.A. franchise?
- 58:55Speaker 7: Boy, this is a head scratcher.
- 58:57Speaker 5: You know, I felt like when Coach Harbaugh went there,
- 58:59Speaker 5: they would have a different mentality offensively, you know, become
- 59:03Speaker 5: more of a running team, a play action football team.
- 59:07Speaker 5: But if you would have told me that at this
- 59:08Speaker 5: point in time, the charge would be 0-6, I mean, 0-6.
- 59:12Speaker 7: I mean, you got to try real hard to be 0-6.
- 59:13Speaker 7: I mean, that's just like.
- 59:16Speaker 5: That to me, it's a head scratcher. And every week they,
- 59:19Speaker 5: you know, and they're basically a victim of, playing against
- 59:24Speaker 5: the Chargers. The Chargers play against the Chargers every week
- 59:26Speaker 5: because they turn the ball over. It's just like, are
- 59:28Speaker 5: you kidding me right now? I mean, they've got maybe
- 59:32Speaker 5: the most turnovers in the National Football League, but every
- 59:34Speaker 5: time I watch them, they turn the ball over.
- 59:36Speaker 7: Fumble snaps from center, intercepts.
- 59:38Speaker 5: Whatever it may be, they find a way to give
- 59:40Speaker 5: the opponent the ball without kicking it to them. And
- 59:43Speaker 5: that's how you're supposed to give the ball to the
- 59:44Speaker 5: opponent when you play offense.
- 59:45Speaker 7: You kick it.
- 59:46Speaker 5: Either you kick it after the field goal, you kick
- 59:48Speaker 5: it after a touchdown, or you punt it.
- 59:50Speaker 7: But when you give it to them on fumbles and interceptions, it.
- 59:53Speaker 3: Never works out.
- 59:53Speaker 2: You know, another one of these teams that we had
- 59:55Speaker 2: a huge expectation from was the Houston Texans. They start 0-4.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: They've won back-to-back. Now they're getting a little bit of
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: a groove here. And, you know, three of those first
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: four losses, one possession losses like a lot in the
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: NFL are. If you're D'Amico Rines, how do you get
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: this team like, OK, we started 0-4. We were in
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: a similar situation at 0-3 last year. How do you
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: keep them focused every week that, like, there's still a
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: ton of football in front of us and we can
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: get this right?
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: Well, the good thing for them, as you said, they
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: started out 0-3 last year. Everyone in that division has
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: a division loss. So they feel like, hey, we're still okay,
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: but we have run out of room now. We've got
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: to start winning football games. And if you mentioned, they've
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: won two in a row now, so they're headed in
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: the right direction. But this was puzzling, too. When you
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: watched them start the season off, you went, okay, they
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: lost two now. And then you went, oh, they lost three.
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: They're going to do like they did last year. No,
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: we're going to make it more harder.
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: We're going to lose four.
- 1:00:51Speaker 5: Now, the good part, They're in a division, as I mentioned,
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: everyone has a division loss. So they're chasing the Jaguars,
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: which obviously they're playing really well. I think Lawrence is
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: playing like he did his first couple seasons in the league.
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: So they're trying to chase Jacksonville. But, you know, I
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: look at this league and I go, it's kind of interesting.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: They always talk about parity. And there truly is probably
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: some parity in the league now because a few teams,
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: you know, Kansas City being one, Minnesota being one, San
- 1:01:22Speaker 5: Francisco being one, have no losses. But everybody else, you know,
- 1:01:26Speaker 5: has a couple.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: And if you have, like, if you.
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: Can get the three wins this week, it's an 11-game season.
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: And I've always said this. It's a race to 10.
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: 10 generally, 99% of the time, you get into the playoffs.
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: And if you were in the South last year, the
- 1:01:42Speaker 5: NFC South, 8-9 won the division. There was three 8-9
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: teams that actually were fighting to win the division. So
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: it's a race to 10. Everyone knows it. Now you've
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: got to start stacking some wins up.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: The coach Herm Edwards with us. Are you making the
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: flight to Bristol this week?
- 1:01:59Speaker 7: Come on. Like clockwork.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Like clockwork. Is that five and a half hours? Is
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that what it is?
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: Well, I stop in Atlanta. There's nothing direct.
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: So I get to Atlanta and then from Atlanta go
- 1:02:10Speaker 5: to Hartford. And then coming back, the same. And I
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: leave out of San Jose. That's from where we live
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: in Carmel, California. It's probably about an hour and 20-minute ride.
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: But but it's kind of interesting this week. I've got
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: some stuff I got to do. So I'm going to
- 1:02:23Speaker 5: stay on the East Coast. I'm going to Philly. Dick
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Vermeule's party, believe it or not, he turns 90.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: And we're going to his birthday party. I hope he
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: doesn't get mad at me for saying that. But I
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: love that man. All the players are going to the party.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: Is Karen still alive?
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: Who?
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: Isn't his wife, Karen?
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: I believe, yeah, Carroll, yes.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Carroll, Carroll, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: So, I mean, it's just, it's amazing. And I've known
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: the man since I was 17 years old. He recruited
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: me to UCLA when I was coming out of high school.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: I ended up going to Berkeley, went to that other
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: school up there that kind of interested in going to
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: that school now.
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: But anyway, and then, you know, he was my coach
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: in Philadelphia.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: So, I've known Coach for a long time and, you know,
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Helped me a lot as a head coach. Had to
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: play against him a couple times, you know, and that
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: was always tough. But great man. And all the teammates,
- 1:03:18Speaker 5: Jaworski and all the guys are going to show up
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: for that thing, so it'll be a lot of fun.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Do you remember him sleeping in his office? I heard
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: that famously he was sleeping in his office.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Oh, boy.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: I mean, he was a taskmaster now. I mean, we
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: didn't have a lot of first-round picks. He took over
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: an organization that had traded away a lot of picks.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: So he built that roster with three agents.
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: Some trades, you know, and stuff like that.
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: And it was just remarkable how he built that organization. And,
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: you know, we were the first Eagle team actually to
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: go to a Super Bowl.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Speaking of that old division, that is a bit
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: of a mess in that division right now with the injuries.
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: And all of that. The Giants are, I mean, it's
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: so rare. Yeah, they're first place, which is remarkable. And
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: they're changing quarterbacks in first place. I mean, it's rare
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: that you do that. Not only are you changing quarterbacks,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: you're changing a backup quarterback, and they're still in first place.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: What a weird situation for them. But what do you
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: feel like J.J. McCarthy could do for this team? He
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: played very well against the Saints in relief last week.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Well, I think Coach Harbaugh sat him down. You know,
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: he had famous Jameis. Do you like the experiment? I
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: guess the experiment's over. And they're going with the guy
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: they drafted. And I've known Jameis a long time as well, too.
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: You know, so he's a fabulous guy in the locker room,
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: and he gets it. He understands his role. But, you know,
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: the Giants right now are sitting in first place with
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: three wins, believe it or not, in the NFC East,
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: a division that I thought would be pretty good this year.
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: But that is not the case. They want to run
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: the ball, hardball, hard-nosed guy. He wants to run the football,
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: play action. Now the quarterback, he can extend plays. That's
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: what he can do. He can extend some plays, but
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: I think he wants them to stick to the script,
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: play from the script first, learn how to play quarterback,
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: and then from there extend.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: You mentioned the 8-7 Panthers that actually won the NFC
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: South last year. Bryce Young as a quarterback, the connection
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: with him and Dave Canales, head coach, they make the
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: postseason last year. They seem to be a little bit
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: better this year. Where are you on Bryce Young?
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: I tell you what, I recruited him coming out of
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: high school. And I can remember when he came in
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: the office. We had Jaden, obviously. And you look at
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: Jaden's size and dimensions. And when we brought him in,
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: after he left, I was talking to him and the family.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: Very pleasant, good player in high school. I looked at
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: the guys, I said, he's a quarterback, really?
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: And he goes, yeah.
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: I said, he's not very big. I said, no, he's
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: a Christian. And you can just watch him throw.
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: Then he goes to Alabama and does what he does
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: in Alabama, and he goes to Carolina. And obviously, he
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: has tremendous touch, you know, because you can imagine, he's
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: not the biggest guy. He's not the tallest guy. But
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: he's very accurate throwing the ball. He makes good decisions.
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: He's smart. This team is playing well. I mean, now,
- 1:05:57Speaker 7: they're in a division, as I said. 8-9 won it
- 1:06:00Speaker 7: last year.
- 1:06:01Speaker 5: We'll see if somebody can win 9 this year in
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: that division. We're going to watch and see this.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: What a sad race, Richard. A race tonight.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: But the NFC South seems to be better than the
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: NFC East right now. No, you're right.
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: And the NFC East is a mess. I mean, Philly,
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: that whole thing is... All the things that have happened there,
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: it's just a shame. But look, it's like anything else.
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: I mean, you make a run for a while in
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: a division... and everybody on the offseason is drafting and
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: and obviously bringing in uh free agents and guys to
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: to win the division and the other teams have kind
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: of done that and philly just has dropped off offensive
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: line we can go through it over and over and
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: then obviously what happened to jaylen is a shame but
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: um now he's not going to play so they're going
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: to play with tanner key a kid uh that was
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: at Stanford. I remember playing against him when I was
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: at Arizona State. He's a pocket guy. He's going to
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: play from the pocket, but we'll see how these Eagles
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: fare going forward.
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: Are you a believer in 5-0 Minnesota? They have become
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: offensively challenged, but they're still 5-0.
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: They're 5-0, and listen to this number now. This is crazy.
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: This is professional football. Defensively, they've given up 64 points.
- 1:07:15Speaker 9: 64 in five games.
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: That means you ain't scoring. I mean, you better score
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: in the pregame warmup because.
- 1:07:25Speaker 7: You're not scoring on these guys. And your quarterback's going
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: to get hit.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: 68% of the.
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: Time they bring pressure. They're going to hit the quarterback.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I am a Miami Dolphins fan, Coach. And Brian Flores,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: I know it's bad. Brian Flores did not work for
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: the Dolphins, but that guy can flat coach defense. I mean,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: his defenses are spectacular.
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, they're really good.
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: I mean, and, you know, points, points are always critical
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: because that's how you win in games.
- 1:07:51Speaker 7: And when when your defense see.
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: What happens, what people don't realize when your defense can
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: play like that. Let's just say in a game you
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: get 12 possessions. OK, you can have eight possessions offensively
- 1:08:04Speaker 5: where there's no stress on you, where you don't score.
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: And it's OK because no one's getting away from you.
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: The lead is never too far. You know, it's like
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: a three-point lead, seven-point. You're never in double digits with
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: these guys because they keep the score.
- 1:08:16Speaker 7: Down, so they take a lot of pressure off your offense.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: Randomly, as a player, where was the most difficult place
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: to play for you?
- 1:08:27Speaker 7: Early was in old RFK.
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: Huh.
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: Against the Redskins. Excuse me, now they're the Commanders. I
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: still call them the dadgum Redskins. And so what was funny,
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: when I came in the league in 1977, you know,
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: George Allen was the coach. So on a beautiful day,
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: like we had played the third game of the year,
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: and the veteran guy said, hey man, get ready.
- 1:08:51Speaker 7: And I said, what are you talking about?
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Just get ready.
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: So you got on the field, and the first thing
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: you realize is that inside the hashes, the grass is
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: cut like nice and outside the hashes, it might've been.
- 1:09:03Speaker 7: An inch longer. And here's the crazy part. It was wet.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: And I'm like, what is this man?
- 1:09:08Speaker 7: And you're slipping and sliding.
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: And it's like, they didn't have a lot of speed
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: back in those days.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: They had, but they had a whole team and it
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: was like, the hardest place to play.
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: And let me tell you something about that fan base.
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: When they got going and they had a chief that
- 1:09:24Speaker 5: had a drum that was popping, when they started singing
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: Hail to the Redskins, I was like, are you kidding
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: me right now?
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: And to see like the whole crowd was coming down the.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: Field on us, man.
- 1:09:32Speaker 7: I was like, where are we right now?
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: I can remember there was someone, Hail to the Redskins
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: and fight for ODC.
- 1:09:38Speaker 7: I said, this place is crazy, man.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: The old NFC East. It's always been fun. The great
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: rivalries there. Coach, we appreciate the time as always. Safe
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: travels this week. All the best to Coach Vermeule. He
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: doesn't know us at all, but we're respecters of him.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: So I'm glad you're getting to celebrate with him this week.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: I appreciate you both.
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: Thank you very much.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: All right, Coach. Thank you. Have a great day. That
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: is the great Coach Herm Edwards. He has PN. You'll
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: see him all week in Bristol as he has to
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: make that long cross-country trip.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Real quick on Dick Vermeule. The difference in technology now,
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: I remember I was a subscriber to a thing called RamsWire,
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: and Howard Balzer was one of the contributors. It was
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: literally a weekly newspaper that was cover-to-cover Rams, and it
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: was about all the things going on in the season.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: And I would get it every Thursday. And, man, I
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: would read that thing cover to cover multiple times. But
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: Dick Vermeule would also have a little article in there.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: Oh, he wrote it?
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I guess he contributed to it or whatever. But,
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: you know, he was the guy that gave the Rams
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: their first ever championship.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: I always respected Dick Vermeule. But I famously remember him
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: sleeping on his couch. And that's what drove him out
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: of coaching. Like, he almost killed himself just from the
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: stress and You know, just beat his body up.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: And not a lot of coaches can do what he did,
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: and that was to get out of the game, get
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: into broadcasting, take a decade plus, reset, and come back
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: to the game.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: And be just as elite as when he left.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, those first Rams teams were really, really bad,
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: and then, you know, they found the magic. And I,
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: you know, I mean, he did a good job of
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: the culture, but Mike Martz and the offense that he
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: implemented with those skills.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Never liked Mike Martz. Never liked him.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Nobody could. Most smarmy guy ever.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Really was. I was just, you know. Watching from afar,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: obviously I'm not a fan.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: When he took over, when he pushed Vermille out, by
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: the way.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: Clay Travis is next. We'll talk some with Clay. I
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: am sure he will want to comment on the big
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: win for Tennessee over Alabama last week, so buckle up
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: for that one if you're an Alabama fan. Clay Travis
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: will join us. It is the next round presented by
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet on Sport and State. All right, it
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: is the next round on Sport and State presented by
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet, hardrockbet.com. hardrock.bet backslash clay hardrock.bet backslash clay
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: where you can go right now um and play all
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: these games we were talking about um boy i tell
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: you what i feel like talking with coach herman we
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: just talked a lot of bad football teams yeah like
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: i mean i know we asked him as many questions
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: as we could but it just feels.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: Like i mean you brought up minnesota they're five and oh.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: I just don't know if they're that good they do
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: have a great defense so brian flores Didn't work as
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Dolphins head coach. That's not uncommon.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: I still thought last week they were able to run
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: the football. I thought Kyler Murray played mistake-free. There was
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: a Justin Jefferson touchdown, so he was involved with the offense.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: I mean, I think the offense can get a little
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: better and better each and every week. I'd watch out
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: for the Vikings.
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: So you are more, obviously, more of a believer than
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: I am.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I am. The thing that scares me is Kyler Murray.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: I mean, can he– He's on the field every play, Lance. Well,
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: I get that, and that was going to be the thing.
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: Can he actually stay healthy? We already saw him out,
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: you know, at the end of week one or through
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: that game against Green Bay and then miss after that. So, like,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: how healthy can he stay and can he be consistently
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: the really good Kyler Murray? There's good Kyler. There's bad Kyler.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: Who was it we used to say that about?
- 1:13:04Speaker 9: Bo.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Good Bo and bad Bo. Bo Wallace at Ole Miss.
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: So we're back to that now with Kyler Murray.
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: I think with Kyler Murray, we are. I mean, I
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: still don't, it's amazing Kyler Murray's able to play at
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: this level, his size.
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: I don't disagree with you. It's just, I mean, I
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: watched him against the Dolphins. They were so offensively challenged
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: that day, just to the point that they were getting
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: booed by our fans. Kicked a lot of field goals
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: that day. By the way, on the college game, before
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: we get to Klay, um, ruled out against Illinois and
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I don't know how big a deal this is because
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I don't know how close this game would be with
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: them or without them but Dante Moore is not going
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: to play and Evan Stewart is not going.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: To Evan Stewart got the DUI after the win last
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: week and I think those are big deals he's your
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: leading receiver and obviously like the quarterback play has not
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: been good you decide to go with Thomas and they
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: had to bench him and they had to bring in
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: Raiola to kind of save the day and he was
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: able to pull it out but their offense is struggling
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: now the good news is Illinois has fallen off a cliff.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: Well, I mean, Brett Bielema's team. Yeah, very, very great.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Looked like he kind of had it going in the
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: right direction there.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: And I just wonder if Illinois is one of those
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: programs where you can't consistently win.
- 1:14:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: Like, you know, maybe it's two years up, one year down.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: You know, one year up, two years down. I just
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: wonder if it's going to be back and forth like that.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: With all that said, I mean, Oregon still, they're an
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: eight and a half point favorite. I don't really feel
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: good about them.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Today is October 22nd. That injury to Dante Moore was
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: September 26th. We're almost a month now.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: And he's still not playing, which is terrifying to me.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: Seems forever ago.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: It does. I mean, that seems like last year.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: Remember, I was at a fall wedding.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, that's how long ago that injury has been.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: He was out for their bye week. He missed the
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: loss to UCLA. He's missed last weekend's win to Nebraska.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: He'll miss this weekend's game at Illinois, road game at Illinois. So,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: I mean, he's missed three games now. And listen to
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: this before we get to Clay after this. Northwestern, that's
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: a losable game without him in it, right? Very much so.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: At Ohio State, that's a losable game with him in it.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: But you could have backup versus backup there. And then Michigan.
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: Michigan.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: Well, and now that you've switched to Tommy Carr, I mean, Michigan,
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: who knows, man? I mean, maybe with the accommodation of
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: Jason Beck and finally getting Bryce Underwood and not worrying
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: about the investment there and, hey, we're going to worry
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: about winning moving forward. I think Michigan could be something
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: to deal with.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I mean, Oregon already with two losses playing yet another
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: week without Dante Moore. They cannot afford another loss and
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: the schedule gets more difficult at the Illinois. So it's
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: he's been out a month. It'll be hopefully he can
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: get back on the field. That's scary. He's been out
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: that long. Clay Travis, the founder of Sport and State.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: He is with us now on the show and joining
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: us as he does every week. What is up, Clay?
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: How are you, my friend?
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: I live in a state where we have a good
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: football team, unlike you all.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Auburn beat Georgia.
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: Tennessee beat Auburn, too. Tennessee is the state champion.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: That's a good point. I forgot about that. Tennessee is
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: the Alabama state champion.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: I think we all knew when Josh Heupel went out
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: and got Jim Knowles that this defense was going to
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: be really, really good. I didn't know it would be
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: good enough to make Alabama offense look that bad and
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: to make the Alabama Kalen DeBoer doubters come back out.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: On both sides of this game, Clay, where do you
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: think Alabama is now after back-to-back losses where The offense
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: has scored a total of 13 points in the last
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: six quarters. And then Tennessee, like McIntyre didn't make any mistakes.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: I don't think you're going to be able to trust
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: your quarterback moving forward, but the defense is so good.
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: And Deshaun Bishop is so good. Like with what we've
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: got going on in college football, who knows?
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: Well, I think you have to say who knows every
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: week now in the SEC, and I do think this
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: is going to be a big change for your average
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: SEC fan. It's a lot like the NFL where every
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: week things can change immensely. I knew that Tennessee's defense
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: was good. Even I didn't expect them to dominate Alabama's
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: offense as much as they did. I think I said
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: on with you guys last week that I felt like
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: whoever got to 24 would be able to win this game,
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: so I liked the under. But look, Tennessee bullied Alabama.
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: That was physical domination on both sides of the line
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: of scrimmage. And with Deshaun Bishop, you're right. But for
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: a tip ball interception that Alabama got and then even
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: the touchdown credit to Keelan Russell for making the play.
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: But even on the touchdown, Tennessee had a blitzer coming free.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: It was just the pump fake that Keelan Russell put
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: on that allowed him to scramble in. I think that
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: was a 19-yard touchdown in the second quarter that made
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: it close for a little bit. Even on that play,
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: Tennessee had a free rusher. And I think Tennessee finished
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: with five or six sacks, whatever the heck it was.
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: Keelan Russell was under pressure the whole game, and obviously–
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: I thought maybe Tennessee settling for three field goals, dropping
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: a touchdown pass on one of the, I think it
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: was the first, after the first turnover. I thought that
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: might end up catching up with them just in terms
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: of the offense letting the defense down. But then it
- 1:18:18Speaker 3: never did materialize that Alabama was able to get Deshaun
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: Bishop off the field. We had a nine and a
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: half minute drive. I think Alabama fans have to have
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: a lot of questions about where the status of the
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: program at this point in time. I think maybe, and
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: I'll put myself in this camp too, maybe we overreacted
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: to the first five games of Keelan Russell and what
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: Georgia and Tennessee have been able to do. Maybe other
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: SEC defenses are going to be able to do now
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: that people have calmed down. up with him a bit. But,
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: you know, this is what I have seen in general
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: of Kalen DeBoer and why I've been skeptical. Alabama lost
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: games under Nick Saban, but they didn't get physically beaten up.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: They didn't get dominated. They didn't lose the line of scrimmage.
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: You know, last year I was at that game against
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: Florida State. when Alabama just really got wrecked. And I
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: think there's just a lot of these examples now of
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: Alabama not being physical enough on both sides of the
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: line of scrimmage to be able to compete at a
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: high level, as high as Alabama fans are used to.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: One more thing I would say, I do think the
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: overall talent discrepancy that Alabama had for much of the
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: Nick Saban era is over. And I think even if
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: Nick Saban were still coaching, I think this is one
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: reason he left. I think Alabama would be tougher physically.
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: I don't think they would have the same level of
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: talent superiority that a lot of people got used to
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: over the years. And I just think much like in
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: the NFL, the difference between one and 32 is not
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: so seismic that one couldn't lose to 32. I think
- 1:20:01Speaker 3: maybe if you take away Vanderbilt, maybe Arkansas, I think
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: the other 1-14, almost anything can happen from one week
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: to the next.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: To your point, almost everyone now has, if you do
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: an SEC power rating like we do, Tennessee's in or
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: close to your top four. A lot of people have
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: them in their college football playoff projections right now, and
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: you're an underdog at South Carolina. I mean, that's life
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: in the SEC right now.
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: I think it's also a function of South Carolina being
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: pretty good, but losing. Look, they were up 16 on
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: Mississippi State. They were up 17 on Kentucky. If they
- 1:20:44Speaker 3: win both those games, South Carolina's 5-1 and probably ranked
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: certainly in the top 15. So I think South Carolina
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: probably has top 20 talent when Lenora Sellers plays really well,
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: like he did on the road against Florida. I think
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: they're capable of beating anyone. And again, they're coming off
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: the bye week. Tennessee is coming off the big epic
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: win over Alabama. And so I understand why it's expected
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: to be a close game. I'm surprised South Carolina is
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: favored though, because again, going back to what you guys
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: have pointed out, I don't think Tennessee is going to
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: give up a lot of points on defense to anybody.
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: I really don't this year. And with a running game
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: where you can pound the opponent and really talented wide receivers,
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: if George McIntyre or phase and Brandon can just avoid
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: turning the football over, Tennessee is going to be able
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: to beat anybody. Certainly that's, that's left on the schedule
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: and heck, They may be able to beat anybody in
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: college football if you see, you know, the Ohio States
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: of the world coming back to the pack.
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: So, Clay, going back to our show last Friday in Gatlinburg,
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: I said, look, if Alabama was somehow to lose to Tennessee,
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: the perception of everything changes. So, like, Alabama fans are
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: down right now. They don't believe this. Maybe is it
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: even a playoff team? On the other side, where are
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: Tennessee fans at 6-1? What is the realistic expectation moving forward?
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Well, I think there's cautious optimism. I also think you
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: can go back to that Texas game and say, how
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: much of that was Faze and Brandon just being totally
- 1:22:24Speaker 3: not ready for the moment? He got sacked 10 times.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: Offense was inexplicably, I think, bad, even with the ability
- 1:22:31Speaker 3: to run the football. I mean, anytime you have 10 sacks,
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: I mean, something has gone awful in terms of your
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: performance on the offensive side of the ball. I think
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: there's a cautious optimism, I would say, with Tennessee fans,
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: because this reminds me a little bit of 2022. Tennessee
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: went into South Carolina and gave up a chance to
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: make the college football playoff and got run as a
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: three touchdown favorite. If Tennessee beats South Carolina Saturday. Then
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: you get the bye week, and then you have Kentucky
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: coming to Knoxville, which should be really basically a top-ten
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: matchup because Kentucky should beat Vanderbilt this weekend. I think
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: that you will start to see at 7-1 a lot
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: of Tennessee fans saying, okay, we can believe if we
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: look at these final four, should beat Kentucky. Texas A &
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: M are on the road, and Aggieland is winnable. I
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: think it will be a low-scoring, ugly game. Then you
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: get Lane Kiffin and LSU to town. And then you
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: got Vanderbilt. So if you can beat South Carolina, I
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: think 3-1 to get to 10-2 and make the playoffs
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: is maybe the expectation at that point in time. Not
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: saying the games are easy, but I think there's a
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: wait and see with South Carolina. By the way, that
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: November 7th weekend, the amount of incredible games that are
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: being slotted to take place, including you want to talk
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: about Alabama and LSU. Either Kalen DeBoer or Lane Kiffin
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: is going to come out of that game with three
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: SEC losses with a bunch of games remaining. I know
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: Alabama's schedule is easier down the stretch than LSU's, but
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: my goodness, that's a tough game. walk out of the
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: stadium moment for either Alabama or LSU's head coach.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: There's no doubt about that. Clay Travis with us on
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: the show, Sporting State founder. You see him on Fox
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: as well in the Fox Big Noon Kick. It's your
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: old school, and it's in your city of Nashville right there.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Was Vanderbilt a flash in the pan? I mean, they
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: fell back to the worst team in the SEC very,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: very quickly.
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: I think they knew they were not going to be
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: really good this year, and they– I have a lot
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: of faith that Jared Curtis is still going to be
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: very good. He's not there yet. I think when you're
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: starting a true freshman, you are acknowledging that you're not
- 1:24:57Speaker 3: going to perform at a high level. I think that
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: the overall roster construct will change quite a lot, as
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: it will everywhere for next year, and there will be
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: a higher level of optimism. But I think it's fair
- 1:25:10Speaker 3: to say nobody anticipated that Vandy would go 0-9 in
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: the SEC. And I think you have to start to
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: discuss that as a legitimate possibility that they go winless
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: in every conference game. And when you lose at home
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: to Arkansas by 10, I think it's fair to say,
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: you know, this is a possibility. this is a break
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: the glass moment for, uh, for Vanderbilt for the next five, five,
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: six weeks.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: I saw earlier today, tickets at Nissan this Sunday for
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: Brown's Titans. You can get in for $ 43. Now that
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: the Titans have won a game, are you back in?
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: That's too much. So what, what.
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: Will it take to get you back to Nissan?
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: I mean, I have season tickets, so I'm giving my
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: seats away. Um, My boys don't want to go watch
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: the Titans. I mean, I don't want to go watch
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: the Titans because there's other good NFL teams playing, and
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: I would rather stay at home and watch good NFL
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: teams play than go watch a bad one for three
- 1:26:16Speaker 3: hours and spend the time to get to the stadium
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: and everything else associated with it. I don't think I'll
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: go back this year. I think what it would take,
- 1:26:25Speaker 3: my boys are old enough, I think it would take
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: one of my kids saying, hey, Dad, I really want
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: to go to the game with you, I would go then.
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: But they are probably further on the Titans suck, I
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: don't even want to watch this team play than I am.
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: And so I think it would take one of my
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: kids saying, hey, Dad, I really want to go to
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: the game.
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: Lance thinks you're going to win. Didn't you say.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: Back-to-back wins for the Titans? Yeah, I think the Titans
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: will win this week.
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: I mean, it wouldn't stun me. The Browns can't score.
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: The Titans are awful on offense but have a decent defense.
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: I took the under already in the game. I expect
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: it'll be a 14-13, 13-10 style ugly slugfest on Saturday
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: in Nashville.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Ugly slugfest is not exactly a way to fill the seats.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: That's probably not going to sell many of those tickets.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: I need a lean from you on this one, and
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: I think I know where you'll go. You already gave
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: us a lean, like wrong team favored with Tennessee, South Carolina.
- 1:27:23Speaker 2: Ole Miss in Austin to take on Texas. Texas has
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: lost back-to-backs. Texas a three-and-a-half point favorite.
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: Yeah, so I got burned last week. I thought Texas
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: would crush Florida. I thought they would take advantage of
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: the weak secondary. I thought a lot of the offensive
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: issues that we had seen with Texas coming out of
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: that loss to Oklahoma would have been rectified, didn't happen.
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: So I know the majority is on this game. I'm
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: taking Ole Miss as the underdog. I'm also taking the over. Look,
- 1:27:56Speaker 3: Texas gave up 27 points to Oklahoma. That loss looks
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: even worse now. in retrospect, after what we saw happen
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: with Oklahoma against Kentucky. Um, and so, uh, I, I
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: just think it's hard to buy into Texas, uh, at
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: this point in time. And if they were to lose
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: that game, then I think the overall pressure on Steve
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: Sarkeesian and certainly Arch Manning is going to go to
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: an entirely different level. And, um, You know, look, they
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: were very fortunate to beat Ohio State. I know Ohio
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: State's going to have to make do without Julian saying,
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: I heard you guys talking about that a little bit
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: as we were coming in. I don't think Ohio State's
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: going to make the playoff. um i really don't i
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: you know the true freshman quarterback even with elite talent
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: elsewhere they weren't looking very good with julian saying um
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: i think there are a lot of teams that can
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: beat ohio state now on that schedule um including usc
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: in a couple of weeks out in the coliseum which
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: has the potential to be a Lincoln-Riley renaissance game where
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: he sort of punches back in a significant way. But
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: I think Ole Miss wins. I think both teams score 24,
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: maybe 28-plus, and Ole Miss wins the close game down
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: in Austin.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: Can you imagine this real quickly? I said this earlier
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: on the week. If you would have gone to Hard
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: Rock Bet and tried to figure out a way to
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: get this future bet– Texas, Ohio State, Oregon, all three
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: to not make the college football playoff.
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: That's where we're heading.
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's crazy that we could be in a position
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: that is that is this outrageous. But that is that
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: is the world. And again, I think that SEC fans
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: are going to have to learn this. But I've said
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: it before, nine and three, six and three in conference
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: going to be a good year. You go seven and
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: two in conference and you get to 10 and two overall.
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: It's going to be a great year. You know, there's
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: only one. Here's another one, LT. What could you have
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: gotten on UCLA to be the last undefeated SEC or
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: Big Ten team?
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: It's insane.
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: A thousand to one? A thousand to one? At least.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: And you would have been like, that's preposterous. I don't
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: want to waste $ 10 on that. Like, wipe your ass
- 1:30:10Speaker 2: with that. It's impossible.
- 1:30:13Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: So I think, again, much like every NFL fan knows,
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: the team you get one week can be completely dissimilar
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: than the team you get the next week because of matchups,
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: because of a variety of factors that just happen to
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: coalesce because the difference between the teams is not that significant.
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: I think this is the era that we're in in
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: the SEC now. I think it's the era that we're
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: in in college football. And by the way, it's why
- 1:30:38Speaker 3: I think a 2014 playoff makes sense. Because I don't
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: think we're in a world where only five or six
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: teams at most could win a championship. I think depending
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: on health, depending on quarterbacks rounding into shape, teams just
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: getting better, I think there'll be 15 teams regularly now
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: that when you get to the postseason, if things go
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: right for them and the bracket breaks the right way
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: and you get the right matchups, not dissimilar to the
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: NCAA tournaments, that you can find a way. There's still
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: going to be the case that certainly, just like in
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: the NCAA tournament, your ones and two seeds, your top
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: eight teams are more likely to win because they're getting
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: a buy in all those things. But I do think
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: that factors in, and I think it makes college football better.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: All right, he is Clay Travis, founder of Sporting State.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: He is also on Fox. Clay and Buck, follow us
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: right here throughout the country.
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: I'll be on Big Noon this weekend, which should be good.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: I'll be with Luke Bryan, actually, country music superstar. We're
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: doing a sit-down interview as part of the pregame. So
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: we'll be live on Saturday from his suburban Nashville area home.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: Will you ask him why his lyrics are so hokey?
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: Well, I like Luke.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: He's an awesome guy. By the way, his son is
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: a stud quarterback.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: I don't know if people realize this.
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: And is getting a bunch of our kids play against
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: each other and have played against each other quite a
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: bit over the years. But his son is a very
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: good quarterback on a state championship caliber team in Tennessee.
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: And he's getting offers all of a sudden from SEC schools.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: So that's that'll be a topic for sure as well.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: I guess he's got a really athletic mom.
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: Big Georgia guy he is. So if Kirby gets in there,
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: you never know.
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: Monster Georgia fan.
- 1:32:29Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: Yeah, Kirby, go in there and recruit the kid. All right, Clay,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: thank you. We'll see that on Saturday. Have a great week.
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: I appreciate you all.
- 1:32:37Speaker 7: See you then.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: All right, buddy, take care, Clay. Travis with us on
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: the show. You heard him mention Hard Rock Bets. Hardrock.bet

- 1:33:29Speaker 1: Lance was like, Lance, who do you like in the NFL?
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: Oh boy, I tell you what, I like the Saints
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: of New York. You know what? I use that no
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: sweat bet. Lance was right. Right there at hardrock.bet backslash clay.

- 1:33:44Speaker 1: something on the fly here. I'm going to give you
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: some names and you tell me the fashion item you
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: associate with that name.
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: And we'll see if you and I are thinking alike.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: I've picked, there's a reason we're doing this. I have
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: picked one, two, three, I think I've got four.
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: So word slash name association.
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to give you a name and you
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: tell me the fashion item you most associate with that name.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Fashion being in air quotes. Clothing item might be a
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: better one.
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: So if you throw, let's just say Sidney Sweeney, I
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: would go basketballs.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Correct, yes. She's not on the list, but yes, that's
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: exactly what you would do right there.
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: I thought you said clothing item.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: I did. That is in that commercial.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: Well, I guess it was in that one ad.
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: That's the only clothing she appears to be wearing.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: We will do that when we return. It is the
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: We continue on the next round on Sporting State presented
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet. Tyler, let's hear cut eight and
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: cut 11. Cut eight and cut 11. As we talk
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: a little college football, and then we're going to play
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: a little word association to close out the show. First
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: half of the show here on Sporting State. As a reminder, though,

- 1:35:02Speaker 1: believe in. And when she walked away, she started XXXY
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: Athletics instead. Here is their mission in their own words.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Empower female athletes to take a stand for fair competition.

- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Let's just go to cut 11 here. Let's do 10
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: and 11. 10 and 11. My bad, Tyler. It's on me.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: 10 and 11. We just talked about Tennessee. You think
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: this is a potential trouble spot for them?
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: I do. I look at this South Carolina team and
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: what has got to give you hope for South Carolina
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: is what they did in Gainesville. Coming off The 17-point
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: lead they had against Kentucky, they lose that. They get
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: it walked off in overtime. And at that point, everybody
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: was talking about the Shane Beamer buyout and, like, has
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: this team tapped out? I thought it was going to
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: be hard for them just to be engaged enough to
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: keep the game competitive, and they went and blew Florida out.
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: So I think South Carolina is still very engaged. Now
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: Tennessee coming off this massive loss win over Alabama. I
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: know they believe, but going on the road with McIntyre,
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: who struggled in Fayetteville, I just think this thing lines
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: up for South Carolina.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: But we have seen it throughout college football. Big win,
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: letdown after a big win. Tennessee got a big win,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: and now you've got to go on the road, Josh Heupel,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: on avoiding that letdown.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Do you lean into the fact, and you have all
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: these examples with this team all year of teams that
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: have won emotional games, that have got beat the next week?
- 1:36:59Speaker 2: Is that something you just lean into this week with
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: this team?
- 1:37:03Speaker 8: I've said it to our football team. I think I've
- 1:37:05Speaker 8: said it in here a couple of times. Every week's
- 1:37:07Speaker 8: a new season inside of this league. That's whether you're
- 1:37:10Speaker 8: playing at home or on the road. You got to play.
- 1:37:14Speaker 8: The margins are just, they're small, they're tight. A play here,
- 1:37:18Speaker 8: a call there make a huge difference. So you got
- 1:37:20Speaker 8: to be on the right side of it in your preparation.
- 1:37:23Speaker 8: certainly understanding what you're getting into, the fact that they
- 1:37:27Speaker 8: got an extra week with the bye last week. Physically,
- 1:37:31Speaker 8: they'll be as fresh as you can be at this
- 1:37:33Speaker 8: point in the season, extra week of preparation, road environment.
- 1:37:37Speaker 8: So we've pointed to all those things with our team
- 1:37:41Speaker 8: this morning.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Boy, he just mentioned everything I was about to say
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: at the end of that soundbite because I didn't know
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: he was going to say it in the soundbite, but
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: you're coming off an emotional win. Your fans have celebrated
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: with you all week. You've got to go on the
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: road where Josh Heupel has struggled at times. You're playing
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: a South Carolina team that just had their biggest win
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: of the season, 38-19 at Florida, and they got a
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: bye week. I mean, if you just want to stack
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: everything that would look like an upset, they've just, well,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: it's not even an upset. Everything that would look like
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: a road loss, they've done it.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: And again, George McIntyre, like they've won back-to-back games and
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: they've only got the one loss right now and everything
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: looks great. But as a starting quarterback, he's got three
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: interceptions and one touchdown. Sooner or later, as good as
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: that Knowles defense is and as good as Deshaun Bishop is,
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: this is going to come back. and this there they
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: will lose games because of the quarterback position.
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: For sure I mean it does not appear to be
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: solidified McIntyre had a night he had a nice a
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: nice enough game against Arkansas a nice game against Alabama
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: but I just don't know long term Is that your guy?
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: Do you see Faison Brandon back? I mean, do you
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: think you see Faison Brandon back playing meaningful sports? I
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: could see it after Saturday. You think you could? Maybe
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: even in Columbia. Maybe. You never know.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, if he goes in and turns it
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: over two or three times and, you know, they're down
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: 7-10 in the fourth quarter, who knows?
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Then there's the talk of college football. The very nice-looking
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Bob Chesney, head coach at UCLA. People say he's a
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: handsome man. And he has got his team undefeated, come
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: off that 17-7 win against Wisconsin. This schedule does not
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: appear for UCLA. This upcoming schedule lands to be extremely daunting.
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: They host Michigan State, who's been a pretty disappointing team
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: in year one under Pat Fitzgerald. That's homecoming this weekend.
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: Well, you want to hear a number?
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: I would love to.
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: Pat Fitzgerald going back to his Northwestern days, his last
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: 22 conference games in the Big Ten from Northwestern to
- 1:39:32Speaker 2: Michigan State. What do you think that record is?
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: Not great. That's 22, I'm going to say... He is 4-18.
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: He is 2-20.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: 2-20 is even worse.
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they've got the worst scoring offense right now in
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: the Big Ten. And, boy, I don't know how they
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: beat UCLA. Again, UCLA is a 14.5-point favorite, so I
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: don't think they're in jeopardy of losing this game. But, again,
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: never say never.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: And then Nevada, that's a game you're crazy. I mean,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: there's no way they're going to lose to Nevada, right?
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: No.
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: You're at Minnesota, which is an interesting game. That's a
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: losable game. Losable game. You host Illinois, who we just
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: talked about, with Oregon. They have not had a good year.
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: I think they're fine three of the four right there.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: All right. Then you're closing at Michigan and hosting USC,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: and that feels like where the rubber's going to have
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: to meet the road for them.
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: Probably so.
- 1:40:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: But you can't lose sight of having fun, man, right?
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: If you're not having fun doing this, what are we
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: even doing it for?
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: And everything's fun for Bob Chesney right now.
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: He's winning.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: He's the toast of college football, and the coach says,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: that's all part of it, man. You can't forget the
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: fun in football.
- 1:40:32Speaker 9: And I think we built this team with people like
- 1:40:33Speaker 9: Gane Energy, know from each other and and from being
- 1:40:37Speaker 9: out here and playing a game that they love and
- 1:40:38Speaker 9: we're not i always think about like what would this
- 1:40:41Speaker 9: look like if it was fun right and anything you're
- 1:40:43Speaker 9: doing in life what would it look like if it
- 1:40:44Speaker 9: was fun and could you do that could you actually
- 1:40:46Speaker 9: allow it to be fun at times uh and there's
- 1:40:48Speaker 9: obviously it goes every which way and there's time for
- 1:40:51Speaker 9: all the seriousness and everything else but we are playing
- 1:40:53Speaker 9: a game and i think that's important to keep in
- 1:40:55Speaker 9: perspective and if we don't burn them out with the
- 1:40:57Speaker 9: toughness and just how hard it is and keep telling
- 1:40:59Speaker 9: them it's a grind and beating them down you know
- 1:41:02Speaker 9: you can do a lot here by uplifting people and,
- 1:41:05Speaker 9: you know, uniting people and finding a way to be
- 1:41:08Speaker 9: able to maybe have a little fun at the same time.
- 1:41:10Speaker 9: And I think that's what these guys do. They're playing
- 1:41:12Speaker 9: a brand of football. They love it here, and they
- 1:41:14Speaker 9: love to be a part of it. So I think
- 1:41:15Speaker 9: they come out here and get recharged, not beat down
- 1:41:18Speaker 9: from football. And I think that's the way I've always
- 1:41:20Speaker 9: wanted a program to look.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: Always a massive flex by UCLA doing the press availability
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: outside in the sunshine. I've always thought it's good recruiting.
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: I don't think he'll be back next year.
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: Where do you think he'll be the coach?
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe Texas.
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: I was going to ask. More on that in the...
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: Here's the thing.
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: Most of these coaches that get opportunities will at least
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: stay for a couple of years. Most. But UCLA is
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: so dysfunctional, I don't know if they'll be able to
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: get out of their own way to be able to
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: keep him. It almost goes back to the Saban documentary.
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: If you saw the first or second episode... where Skip
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: Burtman's like, hey, congratulations.
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: He doesn't even try to keep you. UCLA knows we've
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: got a limitation here. So I've got a feeling Chesney
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: will be elsewhere. Where that is, I don't know yet.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: But I just think he's everything you're looking for in
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: a coach. I know it's easy to say six games in, but, man,
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: it's been pretty incredible. It hadn't been Indiana-like, but it's
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: been close.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and if he can close the deal and get
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: them to the playoffs– Who even knows?
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: But then you've got a potential Lane Kiffin situation, Lance.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: If one of these big schools wants him, UCLA's in
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: the playoffs. Are they going to say, no, you can't
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: coach through the playoffs? Or, yeah, go and coach the
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: playoffs and we'll get you whenever you're done. That's going
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: to be tough on you. It really would be. All right.
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: We lost a former college football coach. And in honor
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: of him, we're going to play a word association game.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: Chuck Amato passed away at age 80. Blades. All right, Tyler.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: Chuck Amato Google search. Tyler's going to do a Google search. No,
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: this is what we're doing.
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: Google, I was going to say, Lance, give me the
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: fashion item that you think of when I say the
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: name Chuck Amato. And you went.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: Oakley Blades.
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: Oakley Blades. There you go. Chuck Amato. It seemed like
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: he wore them more than what it shows in the photos. But,
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: I mean, that was a look.
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: It seemed like he had them on every Saturday.
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: It seemed like night games he wore them. But now
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: that we do a Google search, if you just do
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: a Google image.
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: Did you ever interview? I interviewed him one time.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: I did one time. He had a scratchy voice, kind
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: of talked like an Italian scratchy voice. Just do Chuck
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: Amato and look at the image searches. Not as many
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: sunglasses photos as I would have thought.
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: Look at that one where he's like a bodybuilder almost,
- 1:43:36Speaker 2: like a 50s bodybuilder.
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: Is that really him? That's from his Wikipedia page. We
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: may just spend this segment learning about Chuck Amato.
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: Wait, what language is this in?
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: It says it was in Hausa.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: What is Hausa, Tyler? I don't know.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: Boy, that threw me off.
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: But that was him.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: I mean, that's his real Wikipedia page, right? I'd like
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: to know more info on that photo. That is a
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: barrel chest right there.
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, again, it looks like a 50s bodybuilder.
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: Photo caption of a photo displayed at the Stafford table of.
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: Amedios.
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: Amedios.
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: Yeah, one of my best friends worked at Amedios forever.
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: I know he did.
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: I swear he did. Are you serious? Tommy Cummings.
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: In Raleigh, North Carolina?
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: The late Tommy Cummings. Lost him way, way too early.
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: But yeah, he was a Raleigh native and worked at Amedios.
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:44:25Speaker 7: Okay.
- 1:44:25Speaker 4: Well, he saw that picture then because it was displayed
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: at the Stafford table.
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: I mean, Chuck did not skip chest day, did he?
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: Nope, sure did.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: My goodness. I do remember like when he was just
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: wearing the polos on the sidelines. You could always see
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: his boobs. I remember that.
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: This is a guy who's built to bench press, though.
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: He really is.
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: He's got that stocky body build. We had a wrestling
- 1:44:51Speaker 6: coach in high school that could do like 250 dips
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: in his 60s because he had just those short, stocky
- 1:44:57Speaker 6: arms and a big barrel chest.
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: And you can tell, not that you can see the
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: bottom of this, but his shorts are really short.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. That's going to be short shorts. They're probably cotton, too. Yeah,
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: short shorts.
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: That gold chain, sometimes when he takes it off a
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: little too rapidly, it rips a lot of hair out
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: with it.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: Uh in honor of chuck amato just real quick i
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: was gonna see if you were on the same wavelength
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: as me as soon as i can find what i
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: wrote down um i say steve spurrier you think a
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: visor i mean he was the originator of the visor
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: right like a lot of people wear the visor now
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: on the sideline steve spurrier did it first again the
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: test on this is going to be top row google
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: image do we get one with a visor and we
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: do kirby now too Yeah, Kirby does it. You get
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: several coaches that wear the visor. I'll tell you this, man.
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: Like, you can see with a guy like Lane Kiffin
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: that wears the visor that his hair is thinning.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: Like, Kirby's hair is never going anywhere. Nope, it's the
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: same haircut he had in high school.
- 1:45:49Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean, it is just thick.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Jim Trestle. When I say Jim Trestle.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: Oh, the sweater.
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: Sweater vest, right?
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: Sweater vest, yeah.
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Sweater vest every time on the sideline. Look, I mean, Tyler,
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: you don't have to do sweater vest. Every one of
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: his photos has a sweater vest.
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: Yeah, just always looked like a politician.
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: He really did, and he became one. Jim Trestle sweater vest. Tyler,
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: it was every single game. Now, here's a tougher one.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: Al Golden.
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: Al Golden. Tie.
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: No, tie with short sleeve button up.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Well, I think it was long sleeve and he would
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: have it rolled up. See, like in the Miami? Yeah,
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: he would always roll it up and he always looked
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: so freaking hot in those games.
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it looked like he was rolling into a fraternity
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: composite picture.
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: He did. Al Golden every single time, tie.
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought it was short sleeves more so, but
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: I guess I could be wrong on that.
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: I remember he started it when he was head coach
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: at Temple.
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: Because I do think the short sleeves with the tie.
- 1:46:38Speaker 2: That was a Joe Pah thing, though, right?
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Oh, was it to honor Joe Pah? Is that why
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: he did it? Yeah, I think he had a Penn
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: State tie-in. Interesting.
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: Where is Al Golden now?
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: Is he not the defensive coordinator of the Bengals still?
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: Am I wrong about that? That's where I thought he was.
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I guess he is.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he's Bengals' defensive coordinator.
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: For a minute, I thought he was going to be
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: a pretty good head coach at Miami. Did not work.
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: Nobody did.
- 1:47:02Speaker 9: Yep.
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: Until.
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: Who we view as a top 10 coach now?
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: Yes, I don't know. All right, another half to go
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: in the next round. Enjoy Clay and Buck if you're
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: sticking around on Sporting State. You can either watch us
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: live next round live on our YouTube channel or get
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: it on demand a little bit later on. But we're
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: doing two more hours, some more college football. The film guy,
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: Brooks Alston in NFL. Have a great day.
