- 0:00Speaker 1: While the Saskatchewan rough Riders set to return to the
- 0:02Speaker 1: field tonight for a game against the Edmonton Elks, and
- 0:05Speaker 1: of course, weighing heavily on the minds of many people,
- 0:08Speaker 1: is the two vehicle collision that their former rough Rider
- 0:13Speaker 1: teammate Jaden Dalky was involved in on Saturday. The team
- 0:17Speaker 1: will have a ceremony marking the tragedy before the game tonight.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Dalky was driving his SUV on the wrong lane of
- 0:23Speaker 1: a divided highway. He collided with another driver, twenty two
- 0:27Speaker 1: year old Bishma Rajaguru, killing both of them. Our CMP
- 0:31Speaker 1: say that alcohol and cannabis were found in Dalky's vehicle,
- 0:35Speaker 1: but toxicology reports have not.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Been completed yet.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Tonight's pre game ceremony will have tributes to both of
- 0:46Speaker 1: the victims of this crash.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Shannon Hangen joins us now.
- 0:49Speaker 1: She's been a rough Riders fan for decades and will
- 0:52Speaker 1: be at tonight's game. Shannon, thank you very much for
- 0:55Speaker 1: speaking to us. What are your thoughts as you get
- 0:59Speaker 1: ready for what is going to be I'm sure an
- 1:01Speaker 1: emotional moment at this game.
- 1:04Speaker 3: My thoughts are deep and sad. We're hopeful that writer
- 1:10Speaker 3: Nation will show up tonight and pay tribute to both
- 1:15Speaker 3: the young men. We understand that football players, rough Rider
- 1:20Speaker 3: players here in Saskatchewan are under tremendous pressure throughout the season.
- 1:25Speaker 3: It's a small city, a small province, and we see
- 1:29Speaker 3: them as in many ways part of our lives, part
- 1:32Speaker 3: of our families. We see them in the grocery store,
- 1:35Speaker 3: we you know, see them in the rough Rider merchandise
- 1:40Speaker 3: store and speak with them. They are under that tremendous pressure,
- 1:44Speaker 3: and I believe they handle it partly by coming together
- 1:48Speaker 3: as a family themselves in a unique way, I mean
- 1:53Speaker 3: for a sports team, and we also are part of
- 1:57Speaker 3: that family. We feel we are part of that family.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I have since I was a child, and so we
- 2:05Speaker 3: will be. We will try to try to support them
- 2:09Speaker 3: tonight as best we can. Jaden daal Key, for example,
- 2:15Speaker 3: we feel he's well. He is the son of the Prairies.
- 2:18Speaker 3: He grew up outside of Edmonton, played high school football,
- 2:24Speaker 3: junior football, played for the University of Alberta, and then
- 2:27Speaker 3: came here and was here for six years. So very
- 2:32Speaker 3: much a part of culture here.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the CFL has you know, their teams
- 2:39Speaker 1: have such strong ties to most of the communities, right
- 2:44Speaker 1: and nowhere is that stronger than in the province of Saskatchewan. Yes,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I mean this one's a little complicated though, right because
- 2:52Speaker 1: of the circumstances of his death and the death of
- 2:55Speaker 1: the driver that he ran into.
- 2:58Speaker 2: How do you kind of reconcile all of that?
- 3:02Speaker 3: Well, with great difficulty. I my heart is with the
- 3:08Speaker 3: family of Vision of Rada Guru and his friends and
- 3:12Speaker 3: his you know, apparently the young man died on his
- 3:17Speaker 3: father's birthday, and it is it is heartbreaking and almost
- 3:23Speaker 3: impossible to to deal with the tragedy of those two
- 3:29Speaker 3: young men's lives, promising lives being so so sadly taken.
- 3:36Speaker 3: And we you know, we need we just need to support.
- 3:42Speaker 3: We need we need They need our love. The families
- 3:44Speaker 3: and friends and teammates need our love.
- 3:47Speaker 1: And you know, I think of there's so many issues
- 3:52Speaker 1: and emotions here, and I think there was anger early
- 3:55Speaker 1: on from some people. Yes, there were some ugly rumors
- 3:58Speaker 1: about what might or might not have had up. And
- 4:00Speaker 1: there's compassion, there's grief, there's support.
- 4:05Speaker 2: What do you hope comes out of all of this?
- 4:10Speaker 3: Well, I do hope that the that the anger can
- 4:16Speaker 3: somehow take it, you know, not take precedence over again,
- 4:23Speaker 3: the compassion we have to feel for people who make mistakes.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I mean, this is a horrible, huge mistake that one
- 4:31Speaker 3: of our our beloved football players has made, apparently, and
- 4:39Speaker 3: we can't simply say, oh, well, it's you know, it
- 4:47Speaker 3: was his. You know, we can't. We can't just dismiss
- 4:50Speaker 3: it as a an issue that you know, that can't
- 4:57Speaker 3: be dealt with. We we can, we can try to understand.
- 5:01Speaker 3: We can try to understand. That's all we can do,
- 5:04Speaker 3: seems to me. I'm not sure I have yet, but
- 5:06Speaker 3: I will continue to try to do that.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, this is such a complex issue,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and I think I really am glad that you spoke
- 5:16Speaker 1: to us, because I think you capture what I feel
- 5:19Speaker 1: like a lot of people are going through, particularly in
- 5:21Speaker 1: Saskatchewan in the last few days and just ahead of
- 5:24Speaker 1: the game this evening. So Shannon Hagen, thank you very
- 5:27Speaker 1: much for speaking with us.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Thank you very much. Good night, good even good night.
