- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10That did not sound like the ecstatic coupling of young
- 0:13lovers to me. Welcome to What's Your Least
- 0:16Favorite Scary Movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:18the good, bad, ugly and absurd, and all of our favorite and
- 0:21least favorite scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:23movie, right? If we has this fan base even.
- 0:25If we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:27My name is Jesse and welcome back to our monthly bonus series
- 0:31wherein we dive into the free streaming services and ask
- 0:35ourselves the question to be or not to be.
- 0:40This is live, uncut and mostly undrawn, so take us as we are.
- 0:46Yeah, we got a, we got a movie today.
- 0:51That is true, we do have a movie.
- 0:54I guess you could call it that. We're talking about evil tunes
- 0:57today. Yes, that was my pick.
- 0:59It's my pick this month. So that's what we got going on
- 1:02here. It it sure is.
- 1:04We don't have the normal announcements or polls or
- 1:06anything like that since it's our Toby episodes, so.
- 1:10So now we just go into Travis talking.
- 1:12We just go ahead and talk about it, talk about it.
- 1:16Should I kick it off by oh sorry?
- 1:18Oh, I was just gonna because I feel like we're gonna have to
- 1:21make a lot of our own fun this episode.
- 1:24Have I ever told the story about how when I was younger I
- 1:28misheard the lyrics to Funky Town?
- 1:30I don't think so. So you know where they go, Taco
- 1:33Bell, Taco Bell I and this says something to the raccoon beast
- 1:39that was inside of me. From a young age, I thought that
- 1:42they were singing Taco Bell. Taco Bell.
- 1:45That's adorable. OK, now that we got that out of
- 1:49the way, we can talk about evil tunes, everybody.
- 1:53OK, so Evil Tunes are released January 8th, 1992.
- 2:00My God. Almost aligned with the stars of
- 2:03Jesse's birthday of the 12th. Oh.
- 2:05My God, yeah. Now how do you?
- 2:07How would you? The evil tune.
- 2:08How would you How would you feel if it was your birthday?
- 2:12I What is waiter opinion on this movie?
- 2:14I'm about to ask my mom if she like started having contractions
- 2:17like four days before having me. If maybe she like read an
- 2:20incantation. Or watch this movie.
- 2:23She's like. Watch this movie by the way,
- 2:25because I was just looking people up.
- 2:26Madison her that plays Roxanne. Her birthday is also January
- 2:3012th. Oh really?
- 2:31Yes. Wow, so damn you've been.
- 2:33Some deep diving on this more than I did.
- 2:35And not really like super deep diving.
- 2:37I just got curious who the the mains where.
- 2:41Who the Madison were? Who the Madison were indeed.
- 2:44So yeah, that was a fun little like, oh, hey, that's cool.
- 2:47So now I've got I've got her, I've got Sporty Spice and I've
- 2:51got Rob Zombie. Wow, you got a crew there.
- 2:53I've got the kids from Sweet Life and Zach and Cody cuz
- 2:56they're twins. And you get.
- 2:58I got Obama. Yeah, I got my old boss.
- 3:04Which? Boss John.
- 3:06OK, OK. Yeah.
- 3:07I guess I can believe that, and that's a super common name.
- 3:09Yeah, it's not like a name people haven't ever heard.
- 3:12Yeah, OK. Now that we got that out of the
- 3:15way, well, we'll talk plenty about the cast here in a minute,
- 3:18OK? OK, So the place we watched
- 3:23this, there you go to be There you go.
- 3:24Yeah, you. Forgot where we were at on the.
- 3:27Yeah, well, I know that we skipped some shit and we always
- 3:31do to be for these, although I guess we can we've expanded it
- 3:34to where we can do other streaming services now to.
- 3:36You like start looking at like Pluto and freebie and stuff too,
- 3:40just because you know, kind of the whole point of this is to
- 3:43see maybe some of the lower budget movies that you can
- 3:45access for free where you know the the ability to stream on the
- 3:50paid services isn't necessarily a barrier.
- 3:53Yeah. The whole point of this is to
- 3:55just dig through trash and not necessarily trash what?
- 4:00Yeah, it's just things that you would find like a random movie
- 4:03in a one of those $1.00 bins at Walmart or at Dollar Tree or
- 4:08whatever, Just a random movie kind.
- 4:09Of like how I found you that copy of Motel Hell for your
- 4:12birthday. Yeah, rummaging through the the
- 4:16dollar off bin. Jesse found for my birthday a
- 4:19copy of the Scream Factory DVD from Motel Hell, which is pretty
- 4:23sweet. So we check your bins,
- 4:25everybody. All right.
- 4:26The movie was written by Fred Olin Ray.
- 4:29Also directed by Fred Olin Ray. Music by Chuck Krinz or Krino
- 4:36special effects. Joe Castro.
- 4:39An animation by Brett Nixon. Thank you.
- 4:43I was gonna ask if he knew who did the animation, but I could
- 4:45have known that you would have gotten that information.
- 4:47Anytime animation's involved, I like to get the animators, yeah,
- 4:51cast for this bad boy. David Carradine as Gideon Fisk.
- 4:56Who Travis totally did not remember was Bill.
- 5:00Whoa, it makes sense when you hear his voice, 'cause then I'm
- 5:04hearing his lines being delivered from Kilby and I'm
- 5:07like, oh man, you were in a really good movie one time.
- 5:09Well, 'cause I. Was looking at two movies.
- 5:11He was in the first one also barely in the barely, but he was
- 5:15in it. OK.
- 5:16But I just we were watching the beginning and I was like, face
- 5:18looks familiar, but the hat was covering so much of it.
- 5:21But I was like something about the eyes in the mouth.
- 5:23And then when it started going through the opening credits and
- 5:26it said David Carradine, I was like, that's fucking why?
- 5:29And you're like, huh? Yeah, No, the name does not end
- 5:33the appearance and jumped to me. But that voice, that voice is
- 5:36that's burning in my brain. Yeah.
- 5:38Art Johnson as Hinchelo, Dick Miller as Bert.
- 5:43I think this is the first. No, it's not.
- 5:44We've talked about him in shopping mall.
- 5:46Yes. So we've talked about him at
- 5:47least one other time before. Also no, there was another movie
- 5:54that he briefly appeared in that I feel like we talked about.
- 5:57Really. OK, maybe we'll remember it.
- 5:59Yeah, I'll have to look up. Monique Gabrielle as Megan,
- 6:02Suzanne Aggers, Terry Madison as Roxanne, Barbara Dare as Jen,
- 6:08Don Dow as Biff and Michelle Bauer as Missus Burt.
- 6:12She doesn't even get a name. She's Missus Burt.
- 6:15OK, all right. Time for our favorite game on
- 6:18the show, Budget or Buck Ted. Oh, this is this was shot in
- 6:24somebody's house. This was starring a lot of casts
- 6:30that aren't necessarily super well known.
- 6:32Plus noted character actor Dick. Dick Miller, yeah.
- 6:37And for a movie called Evil Tunes, there was only one tune
- 6:42so. Boy, don't get me started.
- 6:43I'm going with Bug Ted. Yeah, this is bug Ted and I
- 6:48actually just. Bug Ted.
- 6:49This is Bug Theodore. Bug Theodore.
- 6:51That's too regal for this. Yeah.
- 6:55So the budget for this is $140,000.
- 6:58OK. And I do know some info on this
- 7:01right here, and they could maybe shed some light on certain
- 7:03things. OK.
- 7:04So I read that the guy, Fred Olenray, pitched this movie to
- 7:10Roger Corman, saying I can do this movie for you for $250,000.
- 7:16And Roger Corman said no. So this guy got the funds.
- 7:21He's like, fine, I'll do it for 140,000.
- 7:24And I think hiring Dick Miller, this is my personal theory, was
- 7:30a spy hire or a way to prove like, hey, I can fucking do it
- 7:34and I can get Dick Miller. Because this does feel like
- 7:36Corman Fair. Yeah, it's, I feel like this is
- 7:40a blend between Corman. So like New World pictures or
- 7:43whatever one he had at that time and also Full Moon.
- 7:46Yeah, I can see that. Yeah, it's it's, it's got that
- 7:49cheapness to it. I feel like if it were a Corman
- 7:53movie, probably would have been a little bit more tightly ran.
- 7:58I think we would have definitely had Linnea Quigley because I
- 8:01kept thinking, why isn't one of these women Linnea Quigley?
- 8:04We did have, I mean, Michelle Bowers here, she's one of the
- 8:07screen Queens that's in a lot of 1A Quigley movies.
- 8:10Yeah, I just kept expecting Linnea herself.
- 8:13Oh yeah. So the one of the reason why
- 8:16some of these women aren't known is because they're most porn
- 8:19actors. Yeah.
- 8:20Yeah. So just I.
- 8:22Mean it's it's a living. Yeah, it is.
- 8:24They were hired because this movie required a lot of nudity
- 8:27and obviously porn actors are going to be OK and comfortable
- 8:30being at being naked on screen. So yeah, that makes a lot of
- 8:33sense. Movie.
- 8:33Required nudity. OK.
- 8:36For the I mean for the script it kind of did I guess so if you
- 8:39all. And Ray required a lot of
- 8:41nudity. OK, that's fair.
- 8:44I think they were really trying to target that home market with
- 8:48that and with the at home market, if you promise boobs,
- 8:51people will rent VHS tape. It doesn't matter if it's a shit
- 8:54movie or not, they will be all over that stuff.
- 8:56Well, OK, give us the numbers. How did that work out for them?
- 8:59Hold on, I I tried to find out but there's no information on
- 9:04any. Yeah, I mean, it didn't go to
- 9:05theaters, so I don't have a box office or anything like that,
- 9:08and no idea how much it's sold. I do have the IMDb though.
- 9:13OK, The IMDb score is 4.1. Really.
- 9:17Really. OK, yeah, all right.
- 9:20So I have 3 movies from 1992 and the theme is animation of some
- 9:28sorts. OK.
- 9:30I'm curious. OK, so the first movie is a full
- 9:34moon feature. It's Demonic Toys.
- 9:37OK. Yeah, it's like it's similar to
- 9:41Puppet Master but not. And then they even have a
- 9:44crossover later. OK, so.
- 9:47Yeah, Full Moon having a crossover of its own franchise.
- 9:50I know and it's never been done before, never unheard of.
- 9:55So the animation that some stop motion, I wasn't sure I'd
- 10:00watched the trailer. A lot of it is them just kind of
- 10:02picking up the toys and moving it around without, you know,
- 10:04their hands out of frame. And some of it was some puppet
- 10:07stuff. But I did see one guy actually
- 10:10have stop animation, so I can confirm that there is animation
- 10:13in that. OK.
- 10:14Release for that was March 12th, 1992.
- 10:18No budget, no gross. IMDb 5 out of 10 and that is the
- 10:23highest score of all of these movies today.
- 10:25Oh boy. Yeah.
- 10:27So it's all below mid going the rest of the way here.
- 10:31OK, OK. What's what's the next one?
- 10:33What do you got? The next one Pet Sematary 2
- 10:37because of reanimation. Oh my God.
- 10:42Hey man, I thought that that was pretty clever.
- 10:45Yes, goddamn it. So the really safe for that was
- 10:49August 28th, 1990. Two $8 million budget.
- 10:54Wow, $17 million gross. Yep.
- 10:57IMDb 4.9. OK, I've never seen.
- 11:02That one I haven't either, but maybe it's OK, I don't know.
- 11:07Controversial yet brave opinion. I don't really love a lot of the
- 11:12pet sematary options out there. No, I hated the remake and I
- 11:18thought the original was OK. It was kind of standard Stephen
- 11:23King made for TV. Yeah, it's not.
- 11:25I don't think of it as iconic the way a lot of people do.
- 11:29I think the most terrifying scene in that movie is whenever
- 11:33Zelda shows up. I don't even feel like Zelda's
- 11:36isn't that scary. I know a lot of people are like,
- 11:38oh, Zelda's terrifying, but. It caught me off guard because I
- 11:40wasn't even aware of the story and then whenever I see her I'm
- 11:43like, good. Get out of here so and I know
- 11:44we've talked about that boy before on the show, but I just.
- 11:49Fucking what? What's his name?
- 11:51His name? Gage.
- 11:52Yeah. Oh, wow.
- 11:53I actually had that. Yeah, man, that's how much I
- 11:55hated them. Because I.
- 11:57Yeah, well, because he was also in a new nightmare.
- 12:00Oh the OK, I was kind of picturing him too.
- 12:02Little bowl cut. The old fucking he's grown man
- 12:06clothes, ass wearing kid. Yeah, he's a fuck.
- 12:09Fuck that kid. He's no Andy, you know what I
- 12:13mean? Like.
- 12:14No he's not, man, that's so I feel ashamed of myself hating a
- 12:20kid as much as I did there. Look, child acting is hard.
- 12:24Finding child acting. Is hard.
- 12:26No, I respect him. Fuck that kid.
- 12:29All right. And the final movie, you know?
- 12:33What that kid needed? What to be dubbed over by Bob's
- 12:36voice actor? You know, it wouldn't hurt.
- 12:39It would at least give it some spice.
- 12:43Like give me another reason to hate you.
- 12:45Like at the end when he was like not there.
- 12:47Except it's probably not. There, I don't hate Bob as much
- 12:51as most people do. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I came out
- 12:53in support of Bob not too long ago on this very show.
- 12:57I feel like we're Adam Scott's character in Parks and Rec where
- 13:01he stands on the table saying I like Jerry.
- 13:04I thought you were gonna say like when he doesn't get little
- 13:08Sebastian. There's a little bit of.
- 13:11That yeah, no, I guess what this is more me saying I I don't like
- 13:14Pet Sematary as me not getting a little Sebastian.
- 13:17I was saying that we we don't mind Bob is I like Jerry yeah.
- 13:23So basically we're just we're Adam Scott and I'm OK with that.
- 13:25I'm totally generally. Yeah, All right.
- 13:28The final movie, it's kind of more in the line with it
- 13:31Reanimation, and that's because it's Reanimator Academy and it's
- 13:36not that Reanimator series. It's like a completely different
- 13:40thing altogether. It's about a fraternity where a
- 13:43guy has some kind of serum. It's like a rip off of it but
- 13:48the the fact that he has a serum gets a gang leader wanting to
- 13:53get involved with the. I don't fucking know, but that's
- 13:56the synopsis that IMDb gave me. Wild.
- 13:59I kind of like kind of curious. Yeah, so that released February
- 14:0428th 1992. No budget twisted, no gross.
- 14:08Although I the synopsis on Wikipedia said made with very
- 14:11little money. OK OK yeah, IMDb was 4.6.
- 14:17OK, so it sounds like our our movie today is the lowest of
- 14:22them. Oh my God, it is.
- 14:24Yeah, yeah. That happens sometimes.
- 14:26Yeah, happens it'd be like that. OK, I've got 2 tag lines. 2.
- 14:30OK, so the one on the poster. They had enough to spare in the
- 14:33budget for an extra tagline. Well, they're like, look, I'm
- 14:36either gonna have two tunes or two taglines.
- 14:38The guy's. Like all right, two taglines.
- 14:40Yeah, he's like, yeah, two taglines.
- 14:43So the first one that's on the poster is this dude is rude.
- 14:54Oh. My God, I kind of like the
- 14:56audacity be like this. That's our tagline.
- 15:01The next one, first they undress you, then they possess you.
- 15:07That's why I think it might have been important to the plot, like
- 15:11it seems like they were. Like the requirement is to be
- 15:15undressed to be able to be possessed.
- 15:18No because Biff is still has his ratty ass tank.
- 15:22Talk tucked. Into his.
- 15:24Never uses Biff's body. Lots of other people are killed
- 15:28though, without their bodies being used.
- 15:32We see Hinchwo was killed off screen and they use his body.
- 15:39We don't see Bert's body being. Used well.
- 15:43His weenie comes out though because it's implied that's what
- 15:46Roxanne bites onto. Roxanne Monster.
- 15:49We see his weenie come out. We don't see his weenie come
- 15:51out, but that's the implication. Oh, well, yeah, I guess Ben
- 15:55Yeah, yeah. But we don't see it after.
- 15:57We don't see. Him.
- 15:59It's funny, his name is Dick, but we're saying weenie.
- 16:02Yeah. Wow, you're right.
- 16:04We could just be saying Dick here and it could be like all
- 16:07yeah. Yeah, all inclusive, we don't,
- 16:11we don't see it, but that's that's the implication.
- 16:15Oh yeah, that's the implication. The implication, yeah, OK, OK,
- 16:20So no, I still, I think that's kind of like what you said, like
- 16:24OK, we're gonna we're gonna mark this to the at home people.
- 16:27I mean, that's. Undressed.
- 16:30Dude, they fucking fooled me. Those breasts are all augmented,
- 16:34which no judgement here. Wait, whose?
- 16:38All of them all. Oh, they're all those are all
- 16:40fake. They they are Alphaba defying
- 16:46gravity. It's all good work.
- 16:50And again, I'm never going to shame somebody for plastic
- 16:53surgery because if I had the money, hell, I'd I'd have quite
- 16:56a bit of silicone in me too, probably.
- 16:58But wow, yeah, no those. Really.
- 17:01Yeah, I had no idea. Those are not God gifted tatas.
- 17:07OK, wow, that OK, that's your fun facts for today.
- 17:11Well, it's like a, you know, the episode of Seinfeld where
- 17:13Elaine's like, yeah, no women can tell.
- 17:16I guess it's true. Yeah.
- 17:17Yeah, Yeah. The whole point is like, yeah.
- 17:18Is it? Yeah.
- 17:20OK. OK.
- 17:22Yeah. I'm trying to think.
- 17:24Well, he never got to see them, and I got to see them there, but
- 17:27I couldn't tell. So I couldn't tell if he got to
- 17:30see them, too. I don't fucking know.
- 17:31Yeah. I'll trust your judgement on
- 17:33this for sure. OK.
- 17:35Fun facts, everybody. We're talking about breasts, so
- 17:39we don't do that. This episode, though, So we
- 17:41just, first of all, I tell everybody why I chose this
- 17:45movie. OK, Well Talia is warning me not
- 17:47to share this information with anybody.
- 17:50Talia is incredibly offended because the one evil cartoon
- 17:54that was drawn was a dog. Was a dog, wasn't it?
- 17:57Hold on. I think I need to pause because
- 17:59she's losing her mind. OK, sorry, sorry.
- 18:02We we left on Olympic basketball for the girls and Talia has a
- 18:08lot of strong opinions about basketball.
- 18:10It's for the gold. It's getting heated out there.
- 18:14I I also want everybody to know that I tried to make a really
- 18:16stupid joke and Travis went up to me and stupidness.
- 18:19Do we want to share this real quick?
- 18:20I guess what do they call basketball in France?
- 18:25My answer was LeBron. I was just gonna say le
- 18:28basketball and I was not prepared for that.
- 18:32So, OK, yeah, right now. The reason why I picked this
- 18:36movie for to be or not to be so because.
- 18:40That's our sense. Of humor, Sure so the reason I
- 18:45wanted to watch this one is I was sold on the idea that this
- 18:51was supposed to be Who killed Roger rabbit the horror movie I.
- 18:56Felt very misled when you explained it to me that way and
- 18:59then this is what we got. Yeah, so I had that in mind.
- 19:02That's what I was hoping for. That's what I was expecting with
- 19:05this movie. And yeah, we're going to get
- 19:08into all of that here in a second.
- 19:10But that was why I chose it. And, you know, I I'm a big fan
- 19:14of animation in horror. I don't feel like we get enough
- 19:17of it. No.
- 19:18And if there are things out there, I want to be able to
- 19:22discuss it. And I thought, man, I got a
- 19:24chance here and, well, I'm waiting.
- 19:27We are. We are.
- 19:27Discussing it, that is true. However, little animation there
- 19:31is in this movie. So OK, let's let's talk about
- 19:35some good about this. I do like the feel of it there,
- 19:41you know, single location. I'm always a fan of that.
- 19:43Storms scare the shit out of me right now.
- 19:45That's just a that's a phobia I've developed.
- 19:49Yeah, as as a manifestation of all the other stressors in my
- 19:51life right now. Yeah.
- 19:54So that was nice. It's got like the very like low
- 19:58budget 80s kind of feel that we tend to love.
- 20:00I've got very much sorority babes in the.
- 20:03Slime ball Bola Rama vibes from. That yes, I kind of thought
- 20:06about that a few times. Which I think is part of the
- 20:08reason I kept going. Where is Lanaya?
- 20:09Yeah. Yeah, she does feel like she
- 20:11belongs in this. Yeah, and I, I think it's a fun
- 20:14enough idea. I think it feels like the
- 20:16actresses are all having fun with each other at the very
- 20:19least. Yeah.
- 20:20And I I think it's fun that they're not afraid to poke at
- 20:24the tropes where, you know, they keep making jokes about like,
- 20:27oh, well, we've got to go down 1 by 1 so we can get knocked off
- 20:30that way. We don't know why the other
- 20:32person's missing. Yeah.
- 20:33Oh, for super for coeds alone in a basement during a storm over
- 20:38the weekend. Like, it's fun that they poke
- 20:40fun at that. And I think sometimes,
- 20:42especially when you're low budget and you know it's going
- 20:44to show, it's a little bit easier to lean into stuff like
- 20:47that and just be like, hey, look, we know what we're doing.
- 20:51Yeah, I agree. I feel like they definitely went
- 20:53into this knowing what it was gonna be.
- 20:55And they did execute that Phil very well.
- 20:59Also Dick Miller. Yeah, and he's part of that too.
- 21:02He breaks the 4th wall in this movie.
- 21:04He's watching a clip of him. Watching Dick Miller and saying
- 21:08why has this man never won an Academy Award?
- 21:11It's like beautiful. He's like, we actually watch,
- 21:15I'd say maybe 2 minutes of bucket of blood.
- 21:18Yeah. And it's just like we watch 2
- 21:19minutes of him watching 2 minutes of a bucket of blood.
- 21:22Can I just say how furious Scout was that it was the cat scene?
- 21:26Yeah, it was. I got a great picture.
- 21:28One bucket of blood was shown on the last drive in and yeah, like
- 21:32was reacting to the scene. I have a great picture of that.
- 21:35And her face when she saw that that was happening, I guess
- 21:38she's like the audacity of this fucking movie.
- 21:41Yeah, it's I appreciate that they at least went for moments
- 21:45like that here. Yeah, it was.
- 21:47Yeah. No, that, that was great.
- 21:48And I wonder, I almost wonder if it was a moment where they were
- 21:51like, you know what isn't bucket of blood?
- 21:54Roger Corman too. Is this another?
- 21:56Yeah, it is him, yeah. That's why I think it's like,
- 21:58look, man, I got your fucking movie in my movie.
- 22:00Yeah, fuck you. And I wonder if it was a moment
- 22:03where they're like, OK, well, we gotta find something that's a
- 22:05public domain or cheap enough for us to be able to show in
- 22:09this movie. And Dick Miller's like, I got a
- 22:11nugget. Yeah, Yeah.
- 22:12Let. Me call him in a favor.
- 22:15Yeah, I I don't even know if that would be public domain.
- 22:17It might be cheap by then, but yeah, like by 92 it's only like
- 22:2130 years old so I don't really know.
- 22:25I don't know how public domain works in all honesty.
- 22:28I think it really depends on the trademarks because nine of the
- 22:31living dead became public domain fast.
- 22:34Yeah, and that's what I'm saying.
- 22:35Like Roger Corman, he's, I mean, he's a cheap man.
- 22:37He's, he built an empire that he's, he's the early iteration
- 22:41of Blumhouse, you know what I mean?
- 22:44Just with more sleeves. He crawls to Blumhouse.
- 22:47Good. And I mean with this, with all
- 22:49the reference for what Roger Corman has done for horror,
- 22:51please don't take this to me. No, we love Roger Corman.
- 22:55Yeah, he's a fantastic person. He did amazing stuff for the
- 22:59whole genre and movies in general.
- 23:01Yes, but you know that that was kind of his thing, so.
- 23:05I think he probably, I think if he would have okayed this movie
- 23:11and it would have been under his production company, I think we
- 23:15could have had a better product. Honestly, I do.
- 23:18I wonder if maybe it was like the cartoon element threw him
- 23:20off. It might have been that.
- 23:22Which is also silly because fucking Little Shop of Horrors
- 23:26is a Corman product, you know what I mean?
- 23:29Like, oh, we can have a talking plant, a talking man eating
- 23:32plant, but we can't have a cartoon.
- 23:34Yeah, one's puppetry, which was very much a big part of cinema
- 23:39by that point in animation, I think like that.
- 23:43I mean, like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
- 23:45I feel like that was revolutionary stuff right there.
- 23:48Like. And sorry, this is my brain
- 23:51going in a million ways at once right now, but we're kind of
- 23:54like crossing wires. Are you?
- 23:55Because Piranha is also a Roger Corman the original Piranha, but
- 23:59then the remake has. Richard Dreyfuss.
- 24:03No, not Richard Dreyfuss, The Judge.
- 24:07He's in it briefly. He makes a cameo.
- 24:10No, The Judge and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
- 24:14Oh fuck, I don't. Oh oh.
- 24:16He makes a cameo in Piranha 3D, so there's like connections
- 24:19happening in my brain. Right God who?
- 24:21Is and I don't have a good yeah, I no, it's driving.
- 24:23Me. Is he in anything else?
- 24:24We yes, he's in a million things.
- 24:26Is he is he the guy that was in Nobody?
- 24:29Yes. Yeah.
- 24:30Oh, fuck. What is his name?
- 24:32The guy from Back to the Future? Yes.
- 24:34What the fuck is his name? Good.
- 24:36Yeah, no, this. Is it's Christopher something?
- 24:40Lloyd. Chris Rule.
- 24:42Chris Rule, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:43OK, Teamwork, teamwork. Yeah.
- 24:45This is a, this is a regular conversation in our household.
- 24:48By the way. Guys, this isn't, we're not just
- 24:49doing this for the podcast. This is how we go through life.
- 24:53In that fashion, yeah, that's pretty accurate.
- 24:56OK, OK. Yeah.
- 24:57So yeah, yeah, I. Think you're good?
- 25:01You're good, yeah. Yeah, that good was the tropes
- 25:06the the chemistry on set and Dick Miller.
- 25:09OK. Yeah, I mean.
- 25:11Gratuit is double Dick Miller. Yeah, and double Dick.
- 25:14Man, Spotify, please please please please make that a
- 25:19chapter title. Gratuitous double Dick.
- 25:22Gratuitous double Dick. OK, so my goods were to play off
- 25:27of yours. I liked how it was cheesy
- 25:30intentionally, You know, I thought that that was very
- 25:33fitting. And it definitely weaned into
- 25:36the low budget nature of this movie, which is nice.
- 25:38And I liked the idea that they had for this movie.
- 25:42I really think that it was like a great idea to do a movie where
- 25:48the cartoons come to life and kill them.
- 25:50Yeah, that's cool. And if given the right tools and
- 25:57given to the right people, it could have been a really well
- 26:00done movie. But we have that premise kind of
- 26:04squandered aired. It just makes me wish I watched
- 26:06Roger Rabbit instead. You know what I think would be
- 26:09fun? Like kind of the same vibes as
- 26:11like Krampus where we have like, well, mischievous toys and
- 26:16little mischievous gingerbread man.
- 26:18Especially because at the end with the whole like, oh, we're
- 26:20back to life and we just feel like we have bad hangovers,
- 26:23like. And.
- 26:24And when that scene was happening, I thought of Krampus.
- 26:26So yeah, now that you're saying, like, I could picture something
- 26:29like that, if this was remade today, I could see that kind of
- 26:32a vibe. Yeah.
- 26:33Oh man, I could act. I mean, it could work well too.
- 26:35I don't think that it. See, they kind of do show like
- 26:38that now, though. It's not a thing, I guess.
- 26:41Not that big of a deal anymore. Yeah.
- 26:43Animation mixed with real life. It's done with 3D models now.
- 26:47You you like we've missed the era of the DN 2D.
- 26:49I'm saying if it was remade now I would want to to be 2D.
- 26:54That's what I'm saying too. God, even fucking Rugrats and
- 26:58fairly Odd Parents these days are three.
- 27:00D. And like whatever trends come
- 27:05and go, and I'm sure it's probably cheaper in many ways to
- 27:09animated that way. Yeah, but man, not to sound like
- 27:13an old foggy, but. No it's true, I've lost with it.
- 27:18I feel the same way. I am super nostalgic for hand
- 27:22drawn to the animation. I know, what do people shit on
- 27:24the fact that even computer animation is like, you know,
- 27:28like people animate, but like that's Even so difficult cuz
- 27:31you're still having a hand draw. It's just not on pen and paper
- 27:35and on cells where you have to take pictures of it.
- 27:39But I do like that. And yeah, if we were to get
- 27:42something like this, it would need to be two D because yeah,
- 27:45absolutely. I need that.
- 27:46Yeah, like legit Who Framed Roger Rabbit style.
- 27:50Yeah, yeah. But who knows, maybe one day
- 27:53somebody will do it. Somebody nostalgic for that
- 27:55stuff too. OK, so that's sort of good.
- 27:58OK, so let's talk about bad. There's not.
- 28:05There's not much story nor plot. That's not always a bad thing,
- 28:09but sorry, can I playoff of yours?
- 28:12Yeah, yeah. It's fine if your movie is not
- 28:16boring in between and there's a lot of nothing that goes on in
- 28:20this movie. Yeah, that like, it's just
- 28:24there's a lot of like going upstairs and going.
- 28:27Down the stairs and going up. The sideways just it, which
- 28:33like, I mean, yeah, sometimes it can be fun.
- 28:34And like I said, the actors had a lot of fun with it.
- 28:37God, I didn't even talk about this.
- 28:38Am I good? But Madison's whole, like, her
- 28:41physical comedy of trying to open that fucking wine bottle
- 28:45was killing me. That's what made me look her up
- 28:47because I was like, I need to know more about this one.
- 28:49Yeah. So like, it just, I wish they
- 28:54had a little bit more to work off of because sometimes I
- 28:58couldn't tell if it was like, because these are adult film
- 29:01actresses, maybe subtle. She is not their best yeah
- 29:06trait. But then also part of me is
- 29:08like, is it that or is it that they don't have a lot to work
- 29:11with? I got the impression that they
- 29:14probably didn't have a lot to work with and they probably
- 29:17didn't have a lot of direction on set.
- 29:19They probably were just given their lines and they just read
- 29:23them. And if it didn't come out, if it
- 29:25came out super flat or not super well, I don't think anybody
- 29:28bothered to say Nah, like do that again.
- 29:31They they probably were like, OK, fine, whatever.
- 29:33It's nobody's going to be watching.
- 29:35This for the second Dave Carradine was one take for every
- 29:38single scene he was in. Like he they rent, they rented
- 29:42Dave Carradine by the hour. Like that's how.
- 29:44It felt, yeah, he's just, oh, man, what?
- 29:49That was even my bad. And one of them and I don't, I
- 29:53didn't know his name, but my bad is like, what is up with Bill?
- 29:59He's just there around the house creeping the entire time.
- 30:04And then when you kind of forget about him, he comes in the last
- 30:07second to save the day. And then he's like, by the way,
- 30:10here's all kinds of exposition. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:13Where was this? This is me at my most massive.
- 30:17Yeah, it's funny. Like nobody asked for this shit.
- 30:20He's like, by the way, I am a man that was in limbo and I just
- 30:25needed somebody to do this. And I was like, OK.
- 30:28Yeah, it like it almost feels. It almost feels like they took
- 30:33this movie and they made it better with Hocus Pocus because
- 30:37we had the human skin bound book and we had Thackery Binks who
- 30:41was like trying to protect it and keep the creatures from
- 30:44coming to life. And we had lots of talks about
- 30:48virginity, so. You know this focus?
- 30:51Yeah, a kids movie. 93 Disney was wild bro.
- 30:57Damn, that's interesting. Yeah, I don't remember that.
- 31:02Oh yeah, no, they see like my brother's a virgin.
- 31:05And he lit the black flame candle.
- 31:08Oh. Morgan is going to listen to
- 31:09this and she's going to be like, all right, just you and Travis
- 31:12come up here and we're going to have hocus pocus night.
- 31:14We watched Hocus Pocus 2 with her, it was OK.
- 31:18The first one's amazing. Yeah, I know.
- 31:19The first one's a lot better. Hocus pocus too.
- 31:21I was kind of a little bit let down.
- 31:24OK, OK. So do you have any other bats?
- 31:28That's like the gist of it. I don't want to shit on this
- 31:30maybe too much because it was, it was doing its thing.
- 31:33It just, you know, it felt like they needed another pass at the
- 31:38script, maybe have somebody else to come in, brainstorm some
- 31:41ideas with him, fill it out a little bit if they wanted to
- 31:43make a feature length film. And then maybe also rent the
- 31:48house for more than a literal weekend and Dave Carradine for
- 31:51more than a literal hour and a half.
- 31:52Yeah. Yeah, I.
- 31:54Think you're right? Yeah.
- 31:55Yeah, the bads I had, I had acting, being pretty weak all
- 32:00around, which, you know, like it is what it is.
- 32:04They're not I most of these people weren't traditional.
- 32:07Actors in that Dick Miller gave his whole ad to his to his
- 32:11performance. See that?
- 32:13I fucking admire he. Put us back into it.
- 32:16Look man, so I feel like this. Is we're biased towards Dick
- 32:20Miller, but. This is a time where he was
- 32:22probably just doing shit. You know, he's not getting Call
- 32:26Us or big movies anymore or anything like that.
- 32:29And I often see people for movies these days get horror
- 32:36legends and get them in their movie.
- 32:38And I could be mean here, but I feel like 90% of the time I can
- 32:44just see them phoning it in because they feel like they
- 32:46don't they're too good for it. That's the impression I get.
- 32:50When you phone it in, when you don't give it, you're off, no
- 32:52matter what. The project like that just gives
- 32:55me that impression. I got curious.
- 32:57He was working all the way up until his death.
- 32:59I'm sure he was 90 years old. He's a working actor.
- 33:01Yeah, he and he's a character actor, so this.
- 33:03Is his thing. That's his thing.
- 33:06Ripped to both him and Roger Corman, cuz yeah, like yeah,
- 33:09let's Norma Strovia. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:12There we go. Yeah, they they're, they're
- 33:15legends at their craft, Yeah. It it just, yeah, this this
- 33:20movie just needed a little more time, a little more budget.
- 33:24But he fucking killed it, and even Dave Carradine didn't kill
- 33:27it. Yeah, I was like, excited to see
- 33:30him as like this morally ambiguous character.
- 33:32And that's what I'm saying. Like, I know you're a good
- 33:35actor, man. I saw you and killed Bill.
- 33:36You killed that? Yeah.
- 33:38You killed Bill. Somebody did, yeah.
- 33:42I mean, did he kill himself? I don't.
- 33:44No, she did the the. Oh yeah, boom boom.
- 33:47Boom, yeah. Yeah, and now I'm just thinking
- 33:49about Hot Rod where it's like the shoot, you're attack, man.
- 33:54We're always. Hot Rod for the first time ever
- 33:56this week. Yeah, it was a fantastic movie.
- 33:58Yeah, let's we need to we. Need to pick this up.
- 34:00OK, so that and the biggest one was not enough cartoons, which
- 34:04we've already talked funny about that.
- 34:06Don't call it, just change the name.
- 34:08Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 34:09Don't call it evil tunes and it set me up for multiple cartoons
- 34:13and. And market it entirely off of
- 34:15that and be such a big let down with that.
- 34:18It just that frustrates me. Didn't I?
- 34:19I kinda wanna see the trailer for this cuz I wanna see how
- 34:22misleading it is. I kinda wanna see it too.
- 34:24It probably is. Like, here's some maybe boobs
- 34:27and here's a cartoon, right? There.
- 34:28Here's a cartoon. Here's a cartoon guy licking his
- 34:31lips at the boobies. Yeah.
- 34:33He's going, yeah. Yeah, he does.
- 34:35We do get a Wooga. Yeah, we do.
- 34:37You guys, Yeah, We also get a what is the jackhammer sound
- 34:42for? The implication is for like a
- 34:44really heavy duty electric dildo for Mrs. Burt.
- 34:47It's kind of fun. Yeah.
- 34:49So like, that was cartoony in a way.
- 34:50I. Forgot about that.
- 34:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's OK. Ugly.
- 34:58Ugly. I guess I'm going to say the
- 35:01ooga and Satan likes boobs. A bit of it because it Yeah,
- 35:08first of all, it's gross, but also it like, like moralizes
- 35:12nudity and sex. And I wrote we had too much of
- 35:15that already. Yeah, Raby.
- 35:16Monster. Yeah, I mean, he's a baby
- 35:18monster, basically. It's very weird.
- 35:20I didn't want that from this man.
- 35:22Like, give me just make him a killer.
- 35:24Don't make him have to do stupid, weird sexual stuff.
- 35:27Yeah. Let's incorporate more cartoon
- 35:29logic to it. Yeah, they had him hide behind
- 35:32an armchair. Have him hide behind like the
- 35:35fireplace poker. He's a cartoon.
- 35:37He can get real tiny. Drop, drop an anvil on somebody,
- 35:41do some shit like that. Let's have some fun, yeah?
- 35:44Don't make it. Don't go dark with a like that.
- 35:46God damn dude, this is a cartoon, OK?
- 35:50Absurd. Dave Carradine's pun based
- 35:56monologue at the end where he comes in to defeat the cartoon.
- 36:00He's like, you're just a doodle, it's time to erase you.
- 36:04So do you. Do you want to do another take
- 36:07of that? Nope.
- 36:10Yeah, that man. I was gonna say gratuitous
- 36:15double Dick Miller as my absurd, but honestly, no, that's just
- 36:18good. It is.
- 36:19Really good. Yeah, it leans into the absurd.
- 36:23And yeah, no, definitely Dave Carradine there at the end.
- 36:26OK, I have two written down. OK, first one is the book that
- 36:31we get. First of all, this isn't my
- 36:33absurd, but I want to mention it's basically the Necronomicon.
- 36:37It looks exactly like it it. The Necronomicon.
- 36:41Yeah, I this book like back Sass and Dave Carradine as he's
- 36:48fucking sorry, trigger warning, fucking killing himself.
- 36:52And yeah, that's intense. It's I, you know, you kind of
- 36:57forget that the book is an actual living character in this
- 36:59movie. Until it cries Milky white tears
- 37:04when it's thrown into the fire. I mean, what else do you expect
- 37:07from books? I guess it's like bleeding pages
- 37:11from its eyes. Right there.
- 37:13That's deep right there. OK, OK, so the the absurd of it
- 37:17though. The book is full of all these
- 37:21ancient illustrations. This is shit that we would be
- 37:23seeing if we watched Robert Eggers make a movie.
- 37:27Oh my God. It's like true to the
- 37:29illustration style of the time, but randomly in the middle of
- 37:33the book we get this one 90s cartoon, an ass looking
- 37:36motherfucker, and then that's the one you're like, oh, that's
- 37:39the one that's coming to life. It looks like a 90s cartoon.
- 37:43Also can we talk about like Meg saying I don't really know much
- 37:47Latin and then she reads it perfectly?
- 37:49She reads it perfectly until she gets to a part of this and she's
- 37:52like, oh, I don't know that. Yeah, how the dagger works.
- 37:54The dagger will work if I can't read.
- 37:57This. You can't read this part?
- 37:58Yeah, you read everything perfectly fine before.
- 38:00I think you can maybe decipher some of that.
- 38:03The other thing is Biff thinks blood is sticky stuff.
- 38:07Sticky lotion. Was that what that?
- 38:09Yeah, you said lotion. He he walks in on Roxanne and
- 38:15she's covered in blood and he's like, what's all this sticky
- 38:18stuff on you? Like, motherfucker, that has
- 38:20blood. It was blood.
- 38:22It was so clearly boy, maybe even Machine or Megan knew right
- 38:26from the gig. Like what is all that blood
- 38:27doing on you? Maybe.
- 38:28The actor didn't know that she was going to be covered in fake
- 38:31blood. And he's like, what's this
- 38:32sticky stuff? And dude, he was just like,
- 38:35yeah, we're just going to keep this rolling.
- 38:36You know what? Maybe.
- 38:37And if that's the case, then that actor, the one that played
- 38:41Roxanne Madison, played it off super well.
- 38:46OK, let's rate this. Oh man, I 4.
- 38:57That's exactly where I'm at for. Yeah, I like God.
- 39:01I want to like it. I want to give it its flowers
- 39:04where they're owed, but there's just a lot that's promised and
- 39:10we're let down with. You want to know what I think?
- 39:12I think that this movie, if we were to revisit it sometime with
- 39:17the correct expectations, we might like it better.
- 39:20I feel like we, I feel like, you know what, we'll talk about this
- 39:23when we get to the end where we talk about to be or not to be.
- 39:25Yeah. I just like right now I'm just
- 39:28because we're also just like fresh off of watching it and I
- 39:31have a lot of questions and thoughts and maybe, you know, as
- 39:33we talk about it, we'll get better.
- 39:36Yeah, OK. So let's start it.
- 39:39OK, all right, so we open up with what I I I'm a sucker for
- 39:45funny like openings and the credits very 4th wall breaking
- 39:49Travis. I didn't read what he wrote down
- 39:51so. Yeah, it opens with this wall of
- 39:53text. The story you are about to see
- 39:56is true. Nothing has been changed.
- 39:58These are the actual people who live this great adventure, and
- 40:01this is exactly the way it really happened.
- 40:04I truly believe this. Signed Fred Olin Ray.
- 40:09Like, and I was like, OK, cool, I get this guy's sense of humor.
- 40:12I'm here for it. I was ready for this.
- 40:14It's, it's a great way to set this up here.
- 40:17It's it's fun. It's already not taken itself
- 40:19seriously. And then we cut to a mansion
- 40:21during a storm which the the lightning bolts are borrowed
- 40:26from Chopping Mall. This time I think Tick Miller
- 40:28just like smuggled him on to set.
- 40:30Yeah, he actually had. Them.
- 40:31Yeah, and we've got a cloaked man with a back Sassen book.
- 40:37This book. This is how I feel.
- 40:39A lot of the readers out there, you'll understand, you've got
- 40:43your your books and then you've got your to read books and
- 40:47they're always looking at you with their hands on their hips
- 40:50whenever you buy another book. That's what this book is.
- 40:53I imagine the embodiment. Of those books, do they really
- 40:56put their hands on there? They do.
- 40:58Do they really? Yes.
- 40:59Are you being serious? Are you fucking with me?
- 41:01I feel like you're fucking. I've never fucked with you,
- 41:03ever. I've been serious in everything
- 41:06I've ever said. Like, I don't know if you're
- 41:07being for real, but I'm choosing to believe this honestly.
- 41:10Go out and look at some of the books on our bookshelf right now
- 41:13and see which ones are doing this.
- 41:15I thought you were talking about your Kindle.
- 41:18Well, no, my Kindle too, but that's a little bit different
- 41:20because don't tell Amazon, but we share a Kindle account with
- 41:25my family. I.
- 41:27Like that. OK, Yeah.
- 41:28So the guy approaches the building with the book, and he
- 41:32finds a nuisance inside the building.
- 41:36And he's like, all right, I have to do this.
- 41:38No here's the thing, I imagine he built it like a while ago and
- 41:42then they just had like a dry spell and he was waiting for a
- 41:46storm like this so it would be the proper mood.
- 41:49Yeah, I don't. It's so strange to me.
- 41:52There's no reason for this house specifically, but we're we're
- 41:57led to believe it's like a big deal later on.
- 42:00Like, oh, there's been all kinds of weird shit, the atmosphere,
- 42:02but is it because of this? Before Gideon lived like that's.
- 42:05All it is, it might be, I don't even know.
- 42:09I don't think he had a fridge. I don't think he had modern
- 42:12appliances. This.
- 42:13Look at this motherfucker and tell me that he actually lived
- 42:16like a normal human being in the.
- 42:17House And then like as the centuries went on, people moved
- 42:21modern appliances and that is a thing that happens, you know.
- 42:24Oh, that makes sense. Yeah, okay.
- 42:27You got it, you good champ. Yeah, okay, yeah.
- 42:30So he walks inside there and there's a noose and he has the
- 42:35book. He's like, okay, I'm gonna do
- 42:36this. And then he hangs himself.
- 42:38Book like fucking dares. I'm basically too.
- 42:41It's kind of. Funny.
- 42:42All right, Yeah, I'll come back. He he promises it.
- 42:45And then the book vanishes. Yeah.
- 42:47All right. So then we cut to modern times,
- 42:49which we know because the lighting changed.
- 42:53Yeah. Sunny day we see the house as
- 42:56super ran down and there's like a sign on the for sale sign
- 42:59saying call Satan. Yeah, Satan's my realtor, just
- 43:02call him. Yeah, just.
- 43:03Check in on. You don't have to hail him.
- 43:05He's not attacked. Yeah, he's got a phone.
- 43:07These days, it's the 90s. Sometimes he just wants to.
- 43:10You could. Beep him.
- 43:10You could also beep Satan if you.
- 43:12Wanted to do yeah. Beeping's a big thing at that
- 43:14time, yeah. I believe it was Kim Possible,
- 43:17he said. Call me beep me if you want to
- 43:19retrain. Beep beep beep beep Oh God we're
- 43:24so fucking wack today. All right, we have another
- 43:28episode to record. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:31Alright, so we see Dick Miller. I'm just going to call him Dick
- 43:35Miller. His name is Burp, but he's a
- 43:36Dick Miller. He's doing that.
- 43:37And the problem also is when I think of Bird, I think of Return
- 43:39of the Living Dead. And yeah, yeah, yeah, OK.
- 43:43He could have played that. Career.
- 43:43Yeah. And I was gonna say I could
- 43:45totally picture Dick Miller in Return of the Living Dead.
- 43:47So. So they arrive in their van.
- 43:50It's a cleaning crew. We have Dick Miller and four
- 43:53ladies that are gonna be cleaning the house over the
- 43:56weekend. Except Dick Miller's not gonna
- 43:57be doing a cleaning. This honestly like the first few
- 44:01minutes of this movie are still selling me.
- 44:03It's very much like the beginning of Jesus Camp or
- 44:06whatever it was. Buddy Buddy Bible Camp.
- 44:08Bloody, bloody Bible camp. Yeah.
- 44:10Because like, they're like, Roxanne comes out, she goes, I
- 44:14didn't know I was being paid to be a contortionist.
- 44:16And then somebody says, what's a contortionist?
- 44:17And they're like, oh, it's a political party, and they're not
- 44:20quite like, Republicans. And like, they're going back and
- 44:23forth. They're playing their own game
- 44:24of balderdash. And it's amazing.
- 44:26Like, this is really funny. And I feel like Fred ran out of
- 44:29steam after writing this scene and he phoned it in for the rest
- 44:34of the. That line does come back.
- 44:35Later. It does come back later, but I
- 44:37really think that's just Dick Miller improving.
- 44:40When he's on the phone, he's like, whatever, I'm a
- 44:42contortionist. Yeah, Yeah.
- 44:43No, she's like a member of a political party.
- 44:45Yeah. Like, yeah, it's pretty funny.
- 44:48Yeah. So they are going to be dropped
- 44:51off to clean up the place over the weekend.
- 44:54Dick Miller is going to be paying them 100 bucks to do it.
- 44:57I like how they keep saying, is $100 really worth all this?
- 45:01And then they all pause for a second.
- 45:03They're like. Yeah, because they're broke
- 45:04college students. Yeah, I get it.
- 45:07I get it too. I would do.
- 45:09Yeah, we're not going to worry about this, this gross violation
- 45:11of Labor laws where you're just dropping us off in this house
- 45:14for a weekend. Yeah, so he mentions that.
- 45:19The phone isn't hooked up. Yeah, the electricity is on, but
- 45:22the phone's not on until the new owners move in on Monday, so if
- 45:27they have an emergency they can go down the street to Mr.
- 45:29Hinchlow's house. Yes, yeah, he's right there.
- 45:33Yeah. So the house has a long history
- 45:36of mayhem and madness. The girls are there well now,
- 45:39and they're talking. About you are be like put that
- 45:41so much more beautifully than the scripted.
- 45:43That's exactly what they say. No, because Terry, like they're
- 45:46coming in and Terry, Meg is saying how beautiful the house
- 45:49is and Terry's like, well, maybe you can take over the mortgage
- 45:51payments whenever the new owners go disappearing.
- 45:55No, she says this. That's why I wrote this down and
- 45:57does say it has a long history of mayhem and madness.
- 46:02OK. Well, yeah, never mind.
- 46:03Credit to Fred then. Fred it, if you will.
- 46:05Fred it Yeah. Fred it where Fred it is due.
- 46:09Hey I know we don't do tag lines or the Toby movies but Fred it
- 46:15where Fred it is due. There's not much Fred it to be
- 46:18given here. But we're going to give it where
- 46:20it's due. OK, where it's due, we'll give
- 46:22it. We'll give it some.
- 46:23Fred. So the history of the house,
- 46:26there was a family, the Mortimer family that lived there.
- 46:29They vanished one month after moving in.
- 46:32So there's not a lot of good things happen there, Meg.
- 46:38Goes outside to grab the duffel bags.
- 46:40Apparently all of their shit is just shoved into these two giant
- 46:43duffel bags that don't look very well filled at all.
- 46:45Yeah, listen, I've packed a duffel bag.
- 46:48I know what this kind of shit looks like.
- 46:49Especially for these women that have three changes of clothing
- 46:52for a single evening and it's their first evening out of an
- 46:55entire weekend to. Be fair, we only see one night,
- 46:58we don't know what's happening the rest of the time.
- 47:01I'm just saying I don't believe that they had four sleeping bags
- 47:05and multiple changes of clothing each in these two duffel bags.
- 47:09They buy they had a lot of alcohol.
- 47:13Did you not see them on low with that full case of Budweiser I
- 47:16saw? That I'm just saying that was
- 47:19like cleaning supplies and food and then the duffel bags was
- 47:23meant to be like their. Personal effects, Sure.
- 47:26Yeah. And she goes out there to get
- 47:28them. And Mr. Hinchlow, Yeah, just
- 47:31appears as like, hey, I'm Mr. Hinchlow, he's a Oh God.
- 47:36Hey, this movie also gave me Slumber Party Massacre.
- 47:41Yeah, and he's the oh. God, what is his name?
- 47:43He's. The slug guy the.
- 47:45Slug guy I I can't remember his name.
- 47:50Maui. I know.
- 47:51Exactly. I know who you're talking about.
- 47:54I can't give you the name at this second.
- 47:56Damn it. Again with the Roger Corman
- 47:58here, though. Yeah, I I couldn't tell you what
- 48:02his name was. I'm sorry.
- 48:04That. Sounds like a word, but it's
- 48:07like slightly emphasized in a different syllable.
- 48:09Yeah, we're getting lost in the weeds.
- 48:11Yeah, we've, well, we've been lost in the.
- 48:13Weeds I know we need to find our way out of here so he.
- 48:16Yeah, he comes in and introduces himself to everybody.
- 48:18And then he says, just want to see your faces in case I have to
- 48:21identify your bodies later without a hint of irony.
- 48:24And they're like, OK, well, bye. Yeah, that was kind of weird,
- 48:27which I would kind of be the same way, like, get the fuck out
- 48:29of here, man. So they're like, OK, we need to
- 48:32start somewhere. Let's start in the basement
- 48:34first because it gets really creepy at night and I don't want
- 48:37to be down there when it's dark. So their idea to clean the is
- 48:40like, well, it's all cement and dirt, so we can't mop it.
- 48:45Let's just rearrange some boxes. And by rearranging boxes, they
- 48:48mean Chuck them just. Throwing them around, yeah, they
- 48:51they have no structure or organization going on down.
- 48:54There, Yeah. And as they do it, they uncover
- 48:57this chest, and the chest has a little placard on it says, dear
- 49:01God, whatever you do, please do not open.
- 49:02This Yeah, in God's name, please don't open this trunk.
- 49:05And it's glowing and flashing at them like, oh, wonder what's
- 49:08inside. Different language too, like
- 49:10it's a New York City metro subway station like.
- 49:13It's it's really kind of fun. I mean, that is kind of some of
- 49:16the humor I think that they're trying to inject here and.
- 49:18Like I said, moments like this, this movie glows.
- 49:21I just wish they I wish I had the stamina to keep up.
- 49:24With yeah, so the girls open it up anyway.
- 49:27Of course they do. And Terry is like, hey, this
- 49:30stuff looks vintage and valuable.
- 49:32I mean, it may be good for our protection.
- 49:34And the girls are like, well, as long as you split the cost with
- 49:37us, we'll also agree that it's good for our protection.
- 49:40So the things that are in there are a skull and a dagger.
- 49:44And a shroud. And a shroud, yeah.
- 49:46So that's apparently may be worth a lot.
- 49:50Well, she just takes the shroud and the dagger.
- 49:52She doesn't take that. She's not a last poor Yorick.
- 49:54Like she's not doing that. Shakespeare.
- 49:58Yeah. Are you fitting for 2B or not?
- 49:59To be? Exactly.
- 50:00Yeah. So yeah, they they take that
- 50:03just in case the dagger, just in case there could be any danger,
- 50:06because Mr. Hinchelo is like, yeah, you're probably going to
- 50:10die. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:12So they go upstairs and it's storming and they're eating
- 50:18their ham and cheese sandwiches and drinking beer and reading
- 50:23romance novels. Spicy romance novels.
- 50:26And while that's happening, we get a shot outside, too.
- 50:31Bill, I can't remember, is David Carradine.
- 50:34Gideon Fisk, this is. Gideon Fisk.
- 50:36Yeah. And so one of the funny things
- 50:38about this movie is whenever they do a thing where, you know,
- 50:41how movies like, if something appears so like, they obviously
- 50:46pause or they, like, cut the movie just a little bit, that
- 50:49way, they have it. He was standing there holding
- 50:52nothing after he teleports in and then the book teleports in
- 50:55his hand. But he clearly moved because he
- 50:58moves just like an inch over just a little bit on screen.
- 51:01So it was funny that they they didn't even keep him in.
- 51:04Place. Yeah, they just edit it a little
- 51:06better. So they are down there just kind
- 51:11of hanging out. Roxanne says, Do you want to see
- 51:13how I got captain out of the football team?
- 51:15Biff something. Biff with.
- 51:19Yeah, Biff with Biff. With the guy from all those
- 51:22things. Yeah, no.
- 51:23And yeah, the one that you argued with me for an hour that
- 51:28his name could not be Biff with. Could be Biff with when he was
- 51:31young. And you were OK woo distracted.
- 51:37Yeah, she strips. Yeah, she strips them.
- 51:40Yeah. And Meg, like, I don't know,
- 51:43maybe there's like a little like, queer exploration going on
- 51:46for her. She's fascinated.
- 51:48And then Roxanne pulls her out there to dance with her.
- 51:50And when she. I appreciate that she's got a
- 51:52realistic bra on for the size of her tatas.
- 51:55Yeah, it. It was nice seeing that
- 51:58represented. Yeah.
- 52:00But she gets really embarrassed and she runs upstairs and hides.
- 52:05So the girls hear a knock at the door or the doorbell rings.
- 52:09It's a doorbell. Yeah, Yeah.
- 52:10And then go check. Yeah, it's Bill.
- 52:12It's Gideon, whatever with the delivery.
- 52:14And they're like, well, we're not the owners.
- 52:15They'll be here on Monday. And he's like, delivery and then
- 52:19just walks away. And so they look at it, it says
- 52:23open immediately. And they're like, we should open
- 52:25it. And Terry is like, no, we're not
- 52:27the owners. This isn't meant for us.
- 52:28And they're like, what if it's something perishable?
- 52:30And she goes, good point. If it's not perishable, we'll
- 52:32wrap it up right away. Liar.
- 52:35Yeah, so they open it up and it's the book from before.
- 52:40It's not talking to them though. It's pages are in another
- 52:43language and none of them knows how to read it.
- 52:46And they're like, Meg's real smart.
- 52:47I bet she can read it. And meanwhile, Meg is upstairs
- 52:50having like an internal crisis, like self esteem issues.
- 52:54She's looking at herself in the mirror and Roxanne comes up and
- 52:58she's like, hey, you need to come read this book for us.
- 53:01Are you feeling better? I do appreciate that Roxanne is
- 53:04like feeling a little self-conscious, a little
- 53:06embarrassed. Yeah, Kind of a moment.
- 53:09Yeah. So they go downstairs and Meg,
- 53:11it's like, oh, this looks like ancient Latin.
- 53:13I'm not sure I can read it. And then she reads it.
- 53:15Falsely. Yeah.
- 53:16I'm not sure I can read this. Here we go.
- 53:19And she just starts reading and it's like.
- 53:21Something kind of about demons and like your soul and whatever.
- 53:25And so she reads through it, blah blah blah.
- 53:27This footnote says to never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever,
- 53:31ever read the above incantation out loud.
- 53:34Or God, your soul. And she does.
- 53:39Yeah, well, she'd already read it.
- 53:40Yeah, it's the problem. So they're like, OK, cool, we're
- 53:45gonna go to bed. And Roxanne's like, oh, well,
- 53:47Beth's coming around midnight. And they're like, hey, Bert said
- 53:50no hanky panky. And she's like, yeah, it'll be
- 53:52like an hour, Max. And they're like 5 minutes Max.
- 53:56Yeah, so so they go upstairs, she stays downstairs trying to
- 54:00get some wine and. Listen, they were all downstairs
- 54:03in like overly large shirts that looked perfectly comfortable for
- 54:07sleeping in, and then they change into silk nighties.
- 54:10Yeah, that is kind of strange, I think.
- 54:12Yeah. Although I love Jans overly
- 54:16dramatic floor length nighty. That was fun.
- 54:20Yeah. So Roxanne is downstairs and
- 54:23she's trying to open up the wine and it's very, very cheap wine.
- 54:27It is twist top wine. And it's very clear that she is
- 54:30she is putting no her back into this.
- 54:33No, the actress is putting all of her back into this.
- 54:36Oh, yeah. Like she is struggling.
- 54:38Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's amazing.
- 54:40Her physical acting here is phenomenal.
- 54:45We see it in the other room as she's trying to open this.
- 54:48The monster drawing that's on the page kind of glows, and then
- 54:51it disappears from the book. And then it appears in real life
- 54:55as a drawing. And when she comes out into the
- 54:58living room, it hides behind a chair, and she changes into yet
- 55:02another set of lingerie. So she's ready for Biff.
- 55:04And then she hears the cartoon making sounds, thinks it's Biff,
- 55:08doesn't see anything. So she sits down.
- 55:10And then the cartoon, like, attacks her.
- 55:12And you can tell that the actress is like trying to
- 55:14imagine like what the cartoons it'll look like.
- 55:16Yeah, yeah, she even rips up in her own shirt, too.
- 55:19It's like, here we go. Yeah.
- 55:21And yeah, the thing just pounces on her and it's kind of weirdly
- 55:25sexual. Yeah, and to that end, the
- 55:28others upstairs hear the screaming and they assume that
- 55:31it's just really loud sex happening.
- 55:33And Meg is like, I don't think so.
- 55:36And so she goes downstairs to check and the monster, we watch
- 55:39it transform into Roxanne. And Roxanne is like, oh, I cut
- 55:44myself and got blood on my nightgown.
- 55:46So just go back upstairs. It's all good.
- 55:48This is not here yet. Just go back upstairs.
- 55:51And when she when Meg tells Terry and Jan that they're a
- 55:53little bit surprised that this is not there and they're a
- 55:55little bit surprised to hear she's covered in blood, but
- 55:57they're like. Let's let's go back to our.
- 55:59Business, yeah. Like they they could not be
- 56:01bothered. So Dick Miller gets a call.
- 56:06No Roxanne monster. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 56:09Yeah, is happy to be alive again.
- 56:11And we know this because it's like literally said out loud.
- 56:14And then Biff arrives and thinks that the blood is a lotion.
- 56:18Yeah. What's?
- 56:19The sticky stuff. Yeah, and then they start making
- 56:22out and we see her get like her little fangy teeth and then she
- 56:27bites him so. Don't these teeth look exactly
- 56:30like the teeth and demons? And there's another movie That
- 56:35Night of the Demons. Yeah, I was thinking of Night of
- 56:37the Demons and I was also thinking of Trick or Treat where
- 56:39they like do the werewolf transformation a little bit,
- 56:42mostly because they're like making out mid.
- 56:45I feel like. Transformation in the middle of
- 56:46that. I think it looks better in Trick
- 56:47or Treat, but yeah, this right here.
- 56:50It looks like the exact same prosthetics that they used and
- 56:52those. Other Yeah, yeah, no,
- 56:53definitely. Yeah.
- 56:55His screens wake the others up again and they still decide that
- 56:59they're not gonna go make it their business.
- 57:00And Meg's like, but I have to go to the bathroom.
- 57:02I promise I'm doing. Yeah, and they, they, I like the
- 57:06dialogue that they had here. Oh, you're playing a game of
- 57:09what was it like? It's.
- 57:11Me. Yeah.
- 57:11No, like you're, it's, you've got you're it written.
- 57:14You're it. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:16She's like, well, like you have to go there by yourself and not
- 57:19be with us. It's not our time to go yet.
- 57:20Yeah. It's like they're like straight
- 57:22up calling out the movie. Yeah, and this is where we've
- 57:24had to Dick Miller watching Bucket of Blood and praising the
- 57:27performance of the young lead. Yeah, it's so great.
- 57:30It's like it, it lays on its so long that I just kind of
- 57:35appreciate that they did that and I love that they broke the
- 57:394th wall with them being like why didn't this guy win an
- 57:41Academy like it was or Academy Award or whatever.
- 57:45Why didn't he win a university? Yeah.
- 57:48It was funny, so and he gets a call and he doesn't know when to
- 57:52answer it because he's so engrossed by his own
- 57:54performance. And it's sister Henschlow who's
- 57:56saying that he's hearing screams and she he's like, Oh well,
- 57:59they're young kids. They probably avoided their
- 58:01boyfriends over even though they weren't supposed to.
- 58:04Screams of terror, not passion. Okay, okay.
- 58:08I guess I'll go over there. Yeah, once a contortions.
- 58:11Yes. Some kind of political part,
- 58:14yeah. And then on his way out, and
- 58:16this is Bert. It's Friday night and he's like
- 58:20Friday night happens every week and don't take that jackhammer
- 58:23too hard and. It's so weird.
- 58:25Yeah, she's trying to seduce him.
- 58:27And then he is like, I gotta go. And then she goes back to the
- 58:31room and closes the door. You hear fucking jackhammers
- 58:34going on in their power tool. It's just like, Oh my God, it
- 58:38was so over the top. So Mag finds Biff's body
- 58:42downstairs and she screams and that prompts Terry and Jan to
- 58:45run downstairs and check. And Beth isn't a Biff, isn't a
- 58:48soul shroud. You want to know?
- 58:50Whenever I first saw that, I thought I didn't know it was a
- 58:52shroud. I thought that she just tried to
- 58:54hide the body under a rug. What?
- 58:56A little fight. Yeah, that's what I thought it
- 58:58was. And yeah, Meg explains all this
- 59:01because it's written on the tag in the corner of the Soul
- 59:02Shroud. Yeah, I like that.
- 59:04Say, how do you know that it's on this corner right there?
- 59:06Yeah, so it's basically like gift wrap for Satan.
- 59:10Bert arrives and he knocks on the door.
- 59:12And this is like, very like 3's company omens.
- 59:15Like they don't want to let him in.
- 59:17Yeah. In which, like you, just
- 59:20discovered a dead body. I know and they they don't want
- 59:24to get. Fired.
- 59:25Is this is it worth? We're implicating ourselves in a
- 59:27murder over $100. Yes, yeah, they both agree or
- 59:31all three of them agree. Yeah, so they're trying to move
- 59:33the body and tell him that they need to get dressed before they
- 59:37can let him in. Meanwhile, the monster has
- 59:40Roxanne comes and finds him and is like, oh, that door is
- 59:42locked. How about you come downstairs to
- 59:44this teller? And then this scene is what I
- 59:47call in my notes. Came up with a great pun and
- 59:50called it basement instinct because she.
- 59:53Does. Yeah.
- 59:55Yeah. It's just seducing their
- 59:57birthday. Yeah.
- 59:58So she seduces Dick Miller down there and as he goes over there
- 1:00:03to get his Dick Miller his socks.
- 1:00:06His Dick Millard. Yeah, she bites it off.
- 1:00:10Yeah, dies. Yep.
- 1:00:13So the others find Roxanne's lingerie with like, blood all
- 1:00:17over it, and they're like, oh, something bad happened.
- 1:00:21Do we think Biff attacked her? And then they see the book and
- 1:00:23they see that the drawing's missing.
- 1:00:25And Meg's like, what if the incantation released the beast?
- 1:00:30And then she reads the page and says that's what happened.
- 1:00:32And then she said the dagger can kill it if.
- 1:00:36I can't read the rest of it. So they're like, well, let's go
- 1:00:39look for Roxanne. Maybe she can explain this.
- 1:00:40Maybe this is all a big misunderstanding.
- 1:00:43So they decided they're going to start in the basement because if
- 1:00:45they're going to die, they don't want it to be in the basement,
- 1:00:47which that logic doesn't really follow because if the killer is
- 1:00:50there, that's where they're going to die regardless.
- 1:00:52But yeah, yeah, whatever. So they find Bert's body and
- 1:00:58Roxanne's body, and they panic and run back upstairs.
- 1:01:03And their plan is that they're going to run for Henschlow's
- 1:01:05house. But then and he suddenly appears
- 1:01:07and he's like, hey, what's up? And yeah.
- 1:01:10And he recognizes the book and he like does that like trope of
- 1:01:14like knowing exactly like very specifically describes what it
- 1:01:18looks like the book is. Even though also the dagger is
- 1:01:21missing too. Yeah, and the dagger is missing.
- 1:01:24And then he transforms into Roxanne is like, oh, it's all a
- 1:01:26prank. And they're like, what is a
- 1:01:28prank, really? We watched him transform.
- 1:01:32I I think it happened while they were looking away.
- 1:01:35But at the same time, she should have been like, where the fuck
- 1:01:38is Hinchelo? He was just here.
- 1:01:40But nobody addresses it. And they're like, yeah, let's go
- 1:01:42to the basement. It's all a big prank.
- 1:01:44They're all laughing downstairs. Laughing until they get down
- 1:01:47there and see very clearly dead Biff and Bert and they're like
- 1:01:50shaking them. Yeah, they're just nudging the
- 1:01:52body. Like, come on, wake up, what are
- 1:01:54you doing? And then they realize that they
- 1:01:55actually are still dead. So they're going to make a run
- 1:01:58for it upstairs, but Jan is grabbed so and killed.
- 1:02:03So Terry and Meg run. But when they get up there, they
- 1:02:05can't find the dagger. They're going to improv with a
- 1:02:08improvise with a weapon fire poker.
- 1:02:11Yeah. But the monster attacks Terry
- 1:02:14and Terry tells Meg to run. So she she runs down the stairs,
- 1:02:17but she falls and hurts herself and she crawls towards the book.
- 1:02:21And the monster is like, listen, I am free, but I want to make
- 1:02:26sure all of the other drawings are free.
- 1:02:29I got to get you to release all of them and then extend your
- 1:02:33soul. And then that way we're all free
- 1:02:35forever. And I don't know what his grand
- 1:02:38plan was to make her do that. But luckily we don't have to
- 1:02:40find out because I killed Bill Pierce.
- 1:02:42It was going to be through intimidation, but that I feel
- 1:02:46like you lose that whenever you say and I'm going to kill you
- 1:02:48afterwards. Yeah, like I'm going to kill you
- 1:02:49anyway, OK. So I'm not going to do that.
- 1:02:51Then just kill me then let's just get to that part.
- 1:02:54Yeah. But yeah, Bill just busted.
- 1:02:56Like not so fast. Yeah.
- 1:02:58And so they fight, Meg helps and eventually Bill ends up stabbing
- 1:03:04the monster, his tummy, and it tries to crawl back to the book.
- 1:03:08And he says no, it can't be killed what's in the book.
- 1:03:11We must destroy the books. That way the beast can't live on
- 1:03:14quick to the fire and then the what goes knock.
- 1:03:18The fire. Yeah, I like that.
- 1:03:20The cartoon was like just kind of not.
- 1:03:22It wasn't even giving serious dialogue.
- 1:03:24Yeah. Oh, no, I can't believe this is
- 1:03:27happening to me. Or I'll get you in the sequel.
- 1:03:29Yeah, it it had. It's fun.
- 1:03:31Yeah. And so that happens.
- 1:03:34Bill is like, listen, I've been in limbo.
- 1:03:37I had to wait for this opportunity.
- 1:03:40It's so weird how it happens, like they sit down on the couch
- 1:03:43just kind of by the way, I'm Bill, like shake hands like,
- 1:03:48hey, so I was in limbo. I was waiting for somebody to
- 1:03:52come by to open up this book and unleash the tune.
- 1:03:56Yep. That way I can kill it cuz
- 1:03:58that's the only way to kill it. And.
- 1:04:01None of this was actually real. So and you wake up in the
- 1:04:04morning. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:05She's like, what about my friends?
- 1:04:07Like, that'll be OK. And none of this ever actually
- 1:04:09happened. But she wakes up in the morning,
- 1:04:11she's still very much injured. She still has like a giant gash
- 1:04:14on the side of her face. She's still limping and
- 1:04:16everybody wakes up where they were murdered at.
- 1:04:19Yeah, but they're all fine. I hope Dick so has a stick.
- 1:04:24And Mr. Henschelow comes in and he's got hot coffee for
- 1:04:26everyone, and it's portable TV. And they're like, what do we
- 1:04:28need that for? And he goes.
- 1:04:29It's Saturday morning, don't you want to watch cartoons?
- 1:04:33Yeah, she's she's. Why is that it?
- 1:04:37Was the 90s and I was fully expecting it to freeze like
- 1:04:40right as she started the screen but no, we just kept getting the
- 1:04:42screen into the credits. So what happens when this woman
- 1:04:45is just walking through the house, if she ever has kids, and
- 1:04:48they're like, mom, I want to watch the cartoon.
- 1:04:52Like, why? Like this is going to you.
- 1:04:57Know what? She had kids.
- 1:04:58Not too long after this. Those kids would probably be
- 1:05:00watching All Real Monsters. She would be in one of those
- 1:05:02households that would have banned cartoons.
- 1:05:04My God, yes. Yeah, man, sad life.
- 1:05:09OK. All right.
- 1:05:10So I still feel like this before or after talking about it?
- 1:05:13Yeah. I feel a little bit a bit
- 1:05:15better, but not better enough to raise the score.
- 1:05:17I think I I appreciate the absurdity of it and it leaning
- 1:05:21into absurd moments, but it wasn't enough to save it.
- 1:05:24Yeah, I think if it was like a cool hour, I'd be OK with it.
- 1:05:29Yeah, if you if they would have cut down the time, it would have
- 1:05:31helped a lot too and get some more fucking animation in there,
- 1:05:34like more of the cartoon character and possessed Roxanne
- 1:05:37and just stayed in her body most of the movie just.
- 1:05:41Like, yeah. It's basically nine of the
- 1:05:45demons at that point. She's basically Angela.
- 1:05:48Yeah. OK, I have a very important
- 1:05:51question for you. OK, What was Scout's favorite
- 1:05:54part? Oh God, Scout.
- 1:05:56Well, it definitely wasn't the bucket of blood.
- 1:05:58Part Absolutely not. Man, well, I probably when Megan
- 1:06:15said I got to go to the bathroom because Scout has been all about
- 1:06:20getting in the bathroom here lately.
- 1:06:22Good guess, but no. Obviously her favorite part was
- 1:06:26when the book was thrown into the fire because it was nice and
- 1:06:28toasty. I.
- 1:06:29Almost said that, but I thought that that would have been too
- 1:06:32easy. Oh, here's the trick is that I
- 1:06:35always have two answers. So I you did have that one.
- 1:06:39Ah, damn it, I've gotten it one time before.
- 1:06:41I'm. Always ready.
- 1:06:43Except for the one time I wasn't.
- 1:06:44On Gatwab, yeah, yeah, I remember that.
- 1:06:46I cherished that. OK, Dream sequel.
- 1:06:51Obviously a crossover with Evil Dead, right?
- 1:06:54Like we want to see this book in the Necronomicon talking to each
- 1:06:57other. You know what I would like?
- 1:07:00I would love if they did like Space Jam.
- 1:07:07So they they take they take the actual Looney Tunes characters
- 1:07:12and they go horror with it. Instead of Looney Tunes though,
- 1:07:18Animaniacs. Yeah, dude, perfect.
- 1:07:22Animaniacs needs that. They would thrive in that.
- 1:07:25Environment. Yes, that is the logical
- 1:07:27conclusion to the Animaniacs. Well, that means it has to be
- 1:07:31directed by Steven Spielberg, obviously.
- 1:07:34Yeah, He's got to be involved in some capacity, man.
- 1:07:40But like really like not necessarily even those
- 1:07:44characters, but like a larger cast and more screen time for
- 1:07:49them so. More of a story, like more for
- 1:07:53them to do besides talk about screams happening downstairs or
- 1:07:57to fight with a wine bottle for 15 minutes, you know?
- 1:08:00Yeah, so I guess shit, man, like what?
- 1:08:07OK, we could do. We could definitely do the Evil
- 1:08:09Dead thing. I think that that with it
- 1:08:11basically being the Necronomicon right there, it would work well.
- 1:08:15I want like, no, like you said, I want like Evil Dead meets
- 1:08:19Space Jam meets Animaniacs. Like I want.
- 1:08:23I want all of those. OK, elements together.
- 1:08:26Just mix that together. Yeah, your story.
- 1:08:28It doesn't even have to have a story again.
- 1:08:29But if you get those, those are fun characters to watch no
- 1:08:32matter what. Yeah, I don't need like a whole
- 1:08:34complete story for that. Just watch them be wacky.
- 1:08:36Do it you have like, Yaako making some sort of a comment
- 1:08:40about like, sure isn't a whole lot of plot to discuss in this
- 1:08:44film, right? Like their whole thing is
- 1:08:46breaking on the 4th. Wall Yeah, well, OK, here you
- 1:08:48just do Evil Dead 2 again, because Evil Dead Two really has
- 1:08:51no plot. They remade it once, you know,
- 1:08:54because it's basically Evil Dead.
- 1:08:56And then the deadites are the Animaniacs.
- 1:08:59Yeah, yeah. They like it unleashes them.
- 1:09:01They're one of the things that gets unleashed.
- 1:09:04OK. It's like another remake of The
- 1:09:07Evil Dead by Sam Raimi. Again where?
- 1:09:09Or they're not even deadites, they're just like they're normal
- 1:09:12selves, like just fucking up shit along with the deadites.
- 1:09:15Oh yeah no, like I feel like it needs to be them.
- 1:09:18I guess you could maybe like they could be a variation of
- 1:09:20deadite. But when he puts the chainsaw
- 1:09:25onto his arm, one of them is just like cool idea and then
- 1:09:29does the same. Thing.
- 1:09:30Yeah, yeah, the movie writes itself.
- 1:09:33Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 1:09:34Who did you relate? To man I related to Dick Miller
- 1:09:39appreciating Dick Miller. You know what?
- 1:09:43Hard same. Yeah.
- 1:09:44Second place. Going to Roxanne for fighting
- 1:09:47with that wine bottle. I'm terrified of champagne
- 1:09:49bottles. Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:52It it is a weakness of mine because they scare me because
- 1:09:55they're loud and they pop. That's true.
- 1:09:57So. OK, let's see.
- 1:10:01Do you have reviews for us? I do yes.
- 1:10:05So as this tradition for to be or not to be, we pick 2 reviews.
- 1:10:10OK. Let's see, where is the first
- 1:10:13one? OK, here is the good one.
- 1:10:23It is a 10 out of 10. An honest review is what the
- 1:10:29title is. What?
- 1:10:30Why is the rating so low here? It wasn't like this movie even
- 1:10:34tried to be good. It wasn't like it even tried to
- 1:10:36tell you it was good. This movie was a bad was a bad
- 1:10:39movie made to be a bad movie made to entertain you on the
- 1:10:42basis of it being a bad movie. To achieve that goal, you can't
- 1:10:46give the movie three stars for achieving the goal is set out to
- 1:10:50and to ensure it is bad and entertaining.
- 1:10:53A cartoon rapes someone? What the fuck?
- 1:10:55That's not entertaining. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:10:58You have a cartoon raping and given.
- 1:11:00OK, whatever. It's kind of like someone
- 1:11:03watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit and then said, hey, we can do
- 1:11:06that. So much worse.
- 1:11:08You think that's good? We can make a movie like it that
- 1:11:11is so bad you'll love it. And that is exactly what they
- 1:11:14did. That's a twisted B rated version
- 1:11:16of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Only the cartoons are evil and
- 1:11:21that makes it not better. But in a category all to its
- 1:11:25own, it's not trying to scare you and even the jokes aren't
- 1:11:28trying to make you laugh. It's trying to be a bad movie
- 1:11:31that entertains you by hitting all the cliches of the bad movie
- 1:11:34genres. So 10 out of 10 stars itself.
- 1:11:36It's set a goal for itself and achieved it.
- 1:11:39Here's the thing. If a movie is going to be so bad
- 1:11:41it's good, it's either got to be it's either got to play it
- 1:11:45straight or it's got to play it up.
- 1:11:46And this movie doesn't do enough of either.
- 1:11:48Saying a cartoon raping somebody is funny is.
- 1:11:51In a very good call. Yeah, that was strange.
- 1:11:53Yeah, and then, OK, so while we paused to address Talia's
- 1:12:00barking at the game, we got to talking about Bam out of IU.
- 1:12:06Who I have heard enjoys listening to Katy Perry, or at
- 1:12:11least he did back when he was Auk player.
- 1:12:13Yes, before games. And then I made a comment about
- 1:12:17Katy Perry's like crash and burn that's happening right now and
- 1:12:21you did not know much about it. So he she recently released.
- 1:12:26You're saving it for the episode.
- 1:12:27Yes. Well, not intentionally, but
- 1:12:30this is where we're at because this is it ties in.
- 1:12:32Just hold on. OK, so she recently released a
- 1:12:36song that was produced and featured Dr. Luke who the whole
- 1:12:40like drama with Kesha. That was a few years ago.
- 1:12:43I won't go into that if you don't know.
- 1:12:44About it, I know about that. Yeah.
- 1:12:46So he's just not not like a good guy.
- 1:12:48So it's this whole song and video featuring him.
- 1:12:52And the song is called Women's World.
- 1:12:54And it was meant to be like this commentary on like, societal
- 1:12:57expectations of women. And it bombed really hard.
- 1:13:01And after a bomb, she came out. She's like, guys, it was satire
- 1:13:04the whole time. And that's what this review is
- 1:13:07doing. It's like, Oh no guys, no, it's
- 1:13:09good because it's meant to be bad.
- 1:13:11Oh, that's so strange. That's how this review feels.
- 1:13:14Look, and The thing is like, I like movies that are meant to be
- 1:13:20bad, that know that they're bad and.
- 1:13:23Yes, I love those, but you can't.
- 1:13:26You can't half ass a bad movie. We've talked so much about the
- 1:13:30good ones here where we've given them praise where they're bad,
- 1:13:32but they do it in a way where it's entertaining.
- 1:13:35Yes, this doesn't have had enough heart throughout.
- 1:13:38No it doesn't. And there.
- 1:13:40And that's The thing is that when you see those shining
- 1:13:42moments, you're like, Oh no, this has capacity to be really
- 1:13:45funny and smart and stupid all at the same time, and it
- 1:13:48doesn't. It's half baked.
- 1:13:50Yes. They they, I feel like they
- 1:13:52rushed it. They're like, we do it here and
- 1:13:54here and here and then the parts in between are just going to be
- 1:13:57kind of myth. Yeah.
- 1:13:58And that's just not good enough for me.
- 1:14:00Yeah. This is this is one of those
- 1:14:02movies that like, I'm not, I'm not mad.
- 1:14:04I'm just disappointed, yeah. Like, I think many people that
- 1:14:07listen to the show know that we like bad movies.
- 1:14:09Yeah. So I think maybe they understand
- 1:14:12where we're coming from with this.
- 1:14:14OK, I've got a bad review for Evil Tunes, so let's talk about
- 1:14:18that. OK.
- 1:14:20Why not in Simply Dreadful. Never thought nudity could be
- 1:14:22made so boring as well. That's the title of it.
- 1:14:25OK. The title Evil Tunes is quite
- 1:14:28incorrect. It should be actually evil tune
- 1:14:31instead, as there is only one tune that appears, and rather
- 1:14:35badly for such brief moments. To then save on the budget for
- 1:14:38animation, Fred Olin Ray has the tune possessed one of the gals
- 1:14:42then to assure topless scenes, she may then attacks the others,
- 1:14:45making sure to tear off their tops first before killing them.
- 1:14:48Even the scene with the gals stripping and dancing is more
- 1:14:51laughable than enticing, as the way she shakes her stuff was
- 1:14:55rather jarring instead of fun. I still can't figure out how he
- 1:14:59managed to stretch the time out on this one with so little of
- 1:15:02what guys are going to be looking for.
- 1:15:04It's that boring. I realized this was intended as
- 1:15:07silly, stupid, sexy fun. Of the four previous words I
- 1:15:11just mentioned, stupid is the only one that fits.
- 1:15:14It's not sexy, not funny enough, obviously not scary.
- 1:15:18I don't think that was even expected.
- 1:15:20And the time wasted to get the parts that are drawn of that are
- 1:15:24the draw of the film. The breasts make the nudity
- 1:15:27boring once you get there. I wish I could get back to 90
- 1:15:30minutes taken from my life because of this film.
- 1:15:32I've had much more fun standing in line at the post office or
- 1:15:36the bank. First of all, calm down, it's 82
- 1:15:38minutes. Second of all.
- 1:15:40But it feels longer. It does feel longer, yeah.
- 1:15:44No, I just. I think, I mean they know and
- 1:15:47like they try to set up for that but they failed at it.
- 1:15:50Like, there's really good ideas there.
- 1:15:52I just. And yeah, the whole like only
- 1:15:55having the cartoon on there for a couple of times does feel like
- 1:15:57he was cheaping out on the animation.
- 1:15:59I mean, it's exactly what it was.
- 1:16:00And I mean that was like the pitch of the idea and then you
- 1:16:03just don't even follow through with the main idea of the movie.
- 1:16:07It's it's bait and switch, honestly.
- 1:16:09Yeah. And even though you're throwing
- 1:16:12all this nudity in there, it's not enough to save it at all.
- 1:16:15I'm pissed off that I didn't get the fucking cartoon.
- 1:16:20OK. All right.
- 1:16:22I guess that leads us to our question.
- 1:16:25Yeah, To be or not to be? Yeah, we've shat on this a lot,
- 1:16:30but I know that this movie has an audience out there, Darcy
- 1:16:33said. She wants this movie.
- 1:16:34Oh, I was gonna say I could totally see Darcy.
- 1:16:36Especially like the whole bit at the end with the Saturday
- 1:16:38morning cartoons. Yeah, like that feels like made
- 1:16:42written for Darcy. Like this is one of those I
- 1:16:45could see as just having stupid fun on again.
- 1:16:48And I know I say this about a lot of the Toby or not Toby
- 1:16:50movies, but like, this is one that if we were like just, you
- 1:16:53know, working on some random project or cleaning the house or
- 1:16:55something and we put it on Toby or Pluto and it came up like we
- 1:16:59wouldn't change it and we'd pause to watch the parts that we
- 1:17:01liked. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:17:03And there's enough of those in here.
- 1:17:05They like I always have something but.
- 1:17:06Yeah. And as we were trying that, I
- 1:17:07was like, Oh yeah, this part was funny.
- 1:17:09This part was funny. There's more about it than like,
- 1:17:11when you're thinking about the movie as a whole, you think more
- 1:17:14about the dullness of the going up and down.
- 1:17:16And there are a lot of individual moments that really
- 1:17:18shine with it, but it just as a cohesive thing doesn't work for
- 1:17:23me. Yeah.
- 1:17:23So I would say. I would watch it again.
- 1:17:27I'd say Toby. Yeah, Toby.
- 1:17:29Do it like but you just have to. I want people to know what to
- 1:17:34expect going in. Don't expect the cartoon stuff
- 1:17:37cuz you're gonna be let down if that's the case.
- 1:17:39And I don't know how I would feel about this movie if last
- 1:17:42night you pitched it to me as horror, Who Killed Roger Rabbit?
- 1:17:46And I was like, that's really exciting, especially because
- 1:17:48there's some parts of Who Killed Roger Rabbit that are writing
- 1:17:51themselves very horrifying. Like, think about the shoot.
- 1:17:54Yeah, if I didn't have that expectation, what would my
- 1:18:01opinion of this movie be? I don't know.
- 1:18:03And I hope that you all out there watch this, have your own
- 1:18:06expectations for it. Maybe you'll enjoy it going into
- 1:18:09it. Yeah.
- 1:18:09If you do, let us know. Yeah, we're all about that.
- 1:18:12Yeah. So it's definitely for somebody
- 1:18:14out there, but not for us. Yeah, at this moment, maybe
- 1:18:17another time. Yeah, it's casually a background
- 1:18:19for us. Yeah, it's not like we're oh,
- 1:18:23what are we watching this weekend?
- 1:18:24We're watching Eagle too. I'm bringing David.
- 1:18:29Like, yeah, so. All right, that does it then.
- 1:18:34All right, be sure to stay asleep for Thursday.
- 1:18:38Stay asleep. Consume.
- 1:18:40Yeah, obey. Yeah, Yeah, obey.
- 1:18:43Consume, marry and reproduce. Do all those things because
- 1:18:48we're talking about they live. And that's what we're actually
- 1:18:51about to record right after this.
- 1:18:52On the glasses. Yeah.
- 1:18:55So yeah, there's not a place to currently stream that, but.
- 1:19:00Yeah, I'm not going to read up, but yeah, we don't do that
- 1:19:03because. No, that's true.
- 1:19:04But go watch it if you're able to.
- 1:19:06It's a great movie. It's a fun time.

- 1:20:57One of them is just says Taylor Swift.
- 1:21:01We never talked about Taylor Swift one time in that episode.

- 1:21:10because I want to know where that clip starts.
