- 1:03Those who wait upon the Lord receive the greater blessing.
- 1:07Isaiah 40 and verse 31 says, But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
- 1:13They shall mount up with wings as eagles.
- 1:16They shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.
- 1:21Life's circumstances will try to push you ahead of God, and perhaps even your
- 1:25own tendencies will try to move you in front of the plans God has for you.
- 1:29But join us in this program of Woman at the Well Ministries as Kim continues
- 1:34to take us on a journey through the scriptures to discover the reward for waiting
- 1:38on God and allowing Him to have His perfect way in your life.
- 1:43Hello, and thank you for joining us for this fifth lesson in the series out
- 1:48of John chapter 11, The Greater Blessing.
- 1:51What an absolute thrill it is to know that the Word of God is still so relevant to us today.
- 1:59What a shame it is.
- 2:02That there are those out there who believe that the Word of God is nothing more
- 2:06than a history book. I've got news for you, my friends.
- 2:10It is alive and well, and it has the answer for the very problem you have right now.
- 2:17I've got news for you, my friends.
- 2:19It is the celebratory words for the very joy that you feel right now.
- 2:27Friends, I have great news for you. It is the joy that will fill the void in your heart right now.
- 2:37The Word of God is the words that will speak peace to your troubled life.
- 2:43It is the fun that we have as we walk in the ways that He would have us to walk.
- 2:52It is the hope we have that wakes us up in the morning with the spring in our step.
- 3:00And joy in our speech. It is the words to say when we have nothing else to say.
- 3:08It is the answer to all of life's events.
- 3:13It is the answer to every question you'll ever face, whether it be good or whether it be bad.
- 3:22And I can say that unequivocally because
- 3:27my Bible says that the word was made flesh and
- 3:30dwelt among us and jesus is
- 3:34the answer shall we pray
- 3:37our kind and most gracious your heavenly father lord
- 3:40i just thank you that you speak to our hearts every day i thank
- 3:43you dear heavenly father that you come and you dwell in us and
- 3:46you could have lived anywhere you wanted to because you created
- 3:49all things and all things are under your feet but you chose to
- 3:53live in our hearts i thank you dear heavenly father
- 3:56though that the world may not see it and the world
- 3:59may not understand i am perfectly made because
- 4:02i was made in your image i thank you to heavenly father
- 4:05that i have a hope and you are that hope and i
- 4:08thank you to heavenly father that as we begin to read your
- 4:11scriptures i know that they will come alive and they will paint
- 4:14for us a beautiful picture of the words and the love
- 4:17and the mercy and the grace that you have for each of us and i
- 4:20thank you to heavenly father that the time spent with you is
- 4:23well spent that it's an investment we make for
- 4:26eternity and that the return is not just out of this world but it's in this
- 4:31world moment by moment as we speak and hear your voice as we love on you and
- 4:37you love on us as the truth of how you intended for us to live this life unfolds
- 4:43with each and every step we take.
- 4:46Lord, I love you, and I am so thankful that I know that you are in this room,
- 4:49that you are in this lesson, that your presence surrounds each of us.
- 4:54And I just ask that you would just reach out with your loving arms of mercy
- 4:57and grace, that you would just tap the hearts of all those that are listening to this lesson.
- 5:04And Lord, help us to see that waiting upon you is just simply standing in your
- 5:08presence and just simply being
- 5:11where you would have us to be and walking in the center of your will.
- 5:14And that the blessings that awaits those
- 5:17who do that eye hath not seen and
- 5:20ear hath not heard and we can barely comprehend and lord
- 5:23we know that there is abundant great above all that we ask or think power in
- 5:28us according to your power that we allow to work through us lord watch over
- 5:33us and protect us help us to enjoy these times that we have together as we look at your word.
- 5:41And Lord, I invite you to speak to me like you've never spoke to me before.
- 5:45All these things we ask in thy most precious and holy name we pray.
- 5:48And all of God's people said, Amen.
- 5:52We are in the fifth lesson that we are talking about out of John chapter 11.
- 5:58And the chapter opens up with Mary and Martha and Lazarus.
- 6:03And Mary and Martha have a situation under hands that's very troublesome.
- 6:09Them their brother Lazarus is sick and
- 6:12they know exactly what to do as this
- 6:15event begins to unfold in their life because
- 6:18the sisters they're sending for Jesus and we
- 6:21see as we walk through those verses that there's a personal relationship
- 6:25between Mary and Jesus between Martha
- 6:28and Jesus and between Lazarus and
- 6:31Jesus and we see that that relationship is
- 6:34personal and they speak about lazarus as being
- 6:36one whom jesus loves and we
- 6:39see as we go a little bit further that jesus takes time to
- 6:43be with the disciples and he's doing his
- 6:45work and he doesn't rush back off to go be
- 6:49where lazarus is and he explains to the disciples that lazarus isn't asleep
- 6:56but he's dead and the disciples had been a little confused about the word sleep
- 7:02and jesus wanted to make it abundantly clear to them exactly what was going on.
- 7:07And as we look at that, we gain great comfort in knowing that Jesus doesn't want us to be confused.
- 7:14The mysteries of God are mysteries because we're not.
- 7:20In the will of God, strong enough to fully comprehend all that happens around us.
- 7:25And our minds are finite, but he is not the author of confusion.
- 7:29And he doesn't want us to be in chaos and trouble and confusion.
- 7:33So he explains to us if we ask, he says, ask and ye shall receive.
- 7:39Seek and ye shall find. Knock and it shall be opened unto you in Matthew 7, 7.
- 7:46And he shows us how important it is to him
- 7:49that we understand and he gives us the
- 7:52rules to go by because he tells us in
- 7:54second timothy 2 15 to study to show thyself approved unto
- 7:57god a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth
- 8:02and he tells us that his word is a light into our path and a lamp into our feet
- 8:07in the book of psalms and then he tells us through the story of david and the
- 8:13Goliath. The battle's not yours.
- 8:16It belongs to the Lord.
- 8:19And he wants us to understand that he has a plan for us.
- 8:24So much he wants us to know that he tells us that in Jeremiah 29, 11.
- 8:30And it's not just any plan. It's a plan to prosper us, to give us a hope and a future.
- 8:35He knows the way, and he's leading the way. And he tells the disciples this.
- 8:42They move a little bit further. We see that Mary and Martha respond to the call
- 8:48of God very differently.
- 8:49And Martha runs out, and she meets Jesus. She has a full conversation with him.
- 8:55She explains to him her confidence in him, and they speak, and he talks to her.
- 9:00And then he bids, and he calls Mary to come, and Mary comes out to where he
- 9:04is, and she immediately obeys.
- 9:07And then we see, as we talked about so strongly and intensely in the last lesson,
- 9:13that there's a crowd of witnesses that are watching, and then they follow.
- 9:18And that brings us to where we are in verse
- 9:2133 when jesus therefore saw her
- 9:24weeping and the jews also weeping which came with her
- 9:27he groaned in the spirit and was troubled now i
- 9:30want you to really see the significance that i
- 9:33feel in this verse we saw in the
- 9:35verse ahead that she come to jesus and
- 9:38she fell at his feet and she worshiped him and she said to him if you'd have
- 9:43been here my brother wouldn't have died and she explains the confidence she
- 9:47has in his power but it does not change the fact that she's not happy with the
- 9:53circumstances you see you can have full.
- 9:56Belief and power in god and still
- 10:00be stressed or upset about
- 10:03the outcome not worried whether or not god's going to take care of her whether
- 10:08he's in control because he says but without faith it is impossible to please
- 10:12him and you must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently
- 10:15seek him and he says that all things are working together for the good to them that love the lord.
- 10:22And you have to believe this. But there are so many people out there that will
- 10:27look at you and say, if you believe in him, you'll love everything he does.
- 10:33There's a difference between believing in him and still living in the flesh
- 10:37and wishing it was different because you just can't quite see how great it is in a minute.
- 10:44There's a difference between believing that he's right and still living in the
- 10:51flesh and saying, I don't understand, but I know you're right, God.
- 10:54I don't understand, but I know you're right.
- 10:56And this is exactly where Mary's sitting.
- 10:59She knows he's right. She knows he's God. She knows he has the power,
- 11:04but she also knows her brother whom she loves is dead.
- 11:07And she also knows that she has to go through tomorrow without her brother and
- 11:11that life as she once knew it is no longer going to be the same because her
- 11:16brother's dead and she doesn't want that to be.
- 11:19She can mourn in the spirit and mourn in the flesh and mourn in her body the
- 11:24loss of what she thinks is going on and still have full confidence in God.
- 11:29But if she only knew what God had in store, she wouldn't be crying.
- 11:35But I believe he places this piece of scripture in here to show us he loves
- 11:41us even though we're human.
- 11:43And he loves us even though we don't fully understand his plans.
- 11:49But if we place our trust in him and we believe that he's able,
- 11:54despite the fact that we don't like the circumstances, that he's going to reward us.
- 11:59And I believe he lays it in there just so he lets you know, Kim,
- 12:04I don't expect perfection.
- 12:07I expect obedience.
- 12:09Kim, I don't expect perfection. And I don't expect you to always understand.
- 12:14But I want you to trust me even when you don't.
- 12:18And I believe this verse beautifully explains Mary didn't get at why it was happening.
- 12:26She didn't particularly care for the outcome, but she was satisfied that it was the right thing.
- 12:33And her faith in God wasn't shaken, but she was crying because it's okay to be human.
- 12:41And he says unto her, Where have you laid him?
- 12:46They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
- 12:50Jesus wept.
- 12:52In the book of Hebrews, in the fourth chapter, long about the 14th through the
- 12:5816th verse, closing that chapter,
- 13:01it says, and we have a high priest who was tempted as we are, yet without sin.
- 13:09Jesus wept. The shortest verse in the entire Bible, John 11, 35.
- 13:17And perhaps the most powerful. because in that verse, all of his heart is completely revealed.
- 13:28Jesus has a relationship with Mary, and he sees her weeping,
- 13:36and he doesn't want her to feel bad.
- 13:38He doesn't want this person he loves to be hurting.
- 13:43Jesus has a relationship with Lazarus, and he knows what's about to happen he
- 13:52knows that he's getting ready to raise lazarus from the dead,
- 13:56that he's getting ready to bring him to life he realizes the enormous glory of that moment,
- 14:07that his power and the power of god is going to be completely revealed,
- 14:13our bible tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the
- 14:17lord and Lazarus is getting ready to come back to a sinful, wicked world.
- 14:22And I believe in my heart of hearts that Jesus, as he's weeping there,
- 14:26is looking down through time and realizing what Lazarus is getting ready to have to go through.
- 14:33And he's getting ready to see what he's bringing him from.
- 14:38And then I believe Jesus, as he's sitting there in this moment of time,
- 14:42is feeling the glory of God upon him.
- 14:48I believe he feels the power resting upon him.
- 14:51I believe in this moment of time packed in John 11, 35, as Jesus weeps,
- 14:57he feels the love of Mary and Martha.
- 15:01I believe that in this moment of time, in John 11,
- 15:0635, and jesus wept that jesus
- 15:10begins to feel the enormous task he is getting ready to raise lazarus from the
- 15:19dead he's getting ready to defeat death not quite like he's going to just a
- 15:25few chapters away but he's gonna wrestle.
- 15:31Lazarus from the grip of death. I believe he realizes the enormity.
- 15:37I don't think he's at all concerned about whether he can pull it off or not,
- 15:43but I think he sees the enormity of that task.
- 15:49And I want you to park right here in John 11 35 with me for just a moment.
- 15:54And I don't know what God has called you to do.
- 15:57I don't know what work for the Lord you have. before
- 16:01you but i do know as a minister of
- 16:04god as a teacher of his word that
- 16:08sometimes the task that lays before me seems extremely
- 16:12overwhelming and i know that sometimes the task that lays before me seems like
- 16:18it's an enormous burden and sometimes it causes me to cry but just as the tears begin to flow.
- 16:30It causes me to cry out to God, Lord, help me.
- 16:35If you would please let your mind and your heart just move back to that stormy
- 16:42night on the sea when Peter and the boys are in the boat.
- 16:47And the wind begins to come. And the waves begin to rise.
- 16:53And fear is all about.
- 16:56And Peter looks out across the water and he sees a figure coming towards him.
- 17:02And he says, Lord, if it be you, bid me come.
- 17:08The Lord says, come, Peter. And Peter walks on the water.
- 17:13Suddenly, the circumstances of him walking on the water, the reality of how
- 17:18that shouldn't be, the knowledge of the world that's inside of him,
- 17:22the lack of faith that God can do anything with him and in him and through him,
- 17:26overtakes him and he falls.
- 17:28And Peter says, save me. And the scripture says immediately,
- 17:34he reaches down and pulls him up.
- 17:37Where you're at right now, with that task or that burden,
- 17:42with that enormous work that God has privileged you to be called to do,
- 17:49with that mission of service that he's enabling you to perform,
- 17:55the winds of this world may be blowing.
- 17:59The enormity of the task may begin to make you think that you're unworthy,
- 18:04that you're incapable, that you don't have what it takes, and logic may begin to lodge in your head.
- 18:12And block your heart.
- 18:15I have good news. Reach those hands up high and say, save me.
- 18:22Lord, help me. And suddenly, those tears of frustration.
- 18:29Those tears of worry, says be anxious for nothing, but with everything in thanksgiving,
- 18:34let your supplications be made known unto God.
- 18:37And the peace of God that passeth all understanding will keep your hearts and
- 18:42minds through Christ Jesus. suddenly there's a peace that flows.
- 18:47I believe that Jesus in that moment in time who was a hundred percent man and
- 18:54a hundred percent God I believe he wrote John 11 35 for every minister that
- 19:00ever lived for every person who's ever been called by God to give.
- 19:07You see ministers are servants of God they don't wear two-piece suits and ties.
- 19:13Many ministers do, but that's not what makes them that. What makes a minister
- 19:17a minister is a willing heart that's sold over to God that says, here I am, use me.
- 19:23And for every one of us who has allowed the seed of doubt to crawl into our
- 19:31hearts, he gave us 1 John 1.9.
- 19:34If we confess our sins, he's faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
- 19:37cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 19:39But for every one of us who saw the task in front of us as enormous.
- 19:46He gave us John 11, 35.
- 19:49Jesus never doubted, but he wept.
- 19:53And he said, with that verse, you couldn't do it, Kimmy.
- 19:59Because when I was 100% man, I saw the task.
- 20:03And I caught upon God. And I followed.
- 20:08When Jesus weeps, the Jews recognized how much he loved him.
- 20:15The Jews see the relationship.
- 20:19Remember back in verses 31 and 32, people were watching and people were following.
- 20:26And Jesus tells us in the scriptures that if I be lifted up,
- 20:31I'll draw all the men unto me.
- 20:33And his entire ministry, he's lifting up God.
- 20:37And his entire ministry he is
- 20:40showing the people the love of
- 20:43god the mercy of god he is
- 20:46showing him he is the lamb of god who's come
- 20:49to take away the sin of the world he's pointing everybody to his heavenly father
- 20:54and he leaves us here on earth to do the same to point everyone to our heavenly
- 20:59father and everybody sees it and he said where have you laid him he wept.
- 21:08The Jews began to look, and some of them said, Could not this man,
- 21:13which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not
- 21:17have died, begin to have skeptics in doubt?
- 21:21As you begin to work for the Lord, you'll see a lot of that.
- 21:25Perhaps in your own life you're seeing that.
- 21:28Jesus, therefore again, groaning in himself, cometh to the grave.
- 21:31It was a cave and a stone lay upon it.
- 21:34Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead,
- 21:39saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh, for he hath been dead four days.
- 21:45As we bring this part of the lesson to a close, Jesus is still very much aware
- 21:51of how much he loved Lazarus.
- 21:53He's still very much aware of what he's getting ready to call Lazarus back into.
- 21:57And everyone is still seeing the love between Lazarus and Jesus.
- 22:02Friends you call yourself a child of God does the world see the love you have
- 22:11for Jesus and the love he has for you as it flows through your everyday life
- 22:17where are you pointing others to.
- 22:31And welcome back to the Woman at the Well Ministries podcast with Kimberly Miller,
- 22:35where we believe that every man, woman, boy, and girl must come to Jesus just
- 22:40like the woman at the well in John chapter 4.

- 22:49Whether you're listening in our app, on your favorite podcast platform,
- 22:53or on our website at watwm.org,
