Speaker 4: Thanks for tuning in on this Monday morning. Congratulations you
• 0:28
Speaker 4: made it through the weekend and it is a gorgeous bright,
• 0:32
Speaker 4: going to be hot Monday afternoon out there for you.
• 0:34
Speaker 4: Today we go straight from the seventies into the nineties,
• 0:37
Speaker 4: I think, low nineties and sunny day is what's in
• 0:41
Speaker 4: head forsd today and for a lot of this week.
• 0:43
Speaker 4: I need to check catch up on the weather, but
• 0:45
Speaker 4: it looks like we're gonna have a good weather week
• 0:47
Speaker 4: here in the Kanal Valley. So that's a good thing
• 0:49
Speaker 4: is things are getting started and things are starting to
• 0:51
Speaker 4: crank up around the Kanal Valley with events and things
• 0:53
Speaker 4: like that that's coming on. We will have plenty of
• 0:56
Speaker 4: things to do and to talk about during the course
• 0:58
Speaker 4: of this week. Dave Allan, of course, is off all
• 1:00
Speaker 4: week this week, and I'll be filling in for the
• 1:03
Speaker 4: first two days, so I'll be here today and tomorrow
• 1:06
Speaker 4: and then we will have Natalie Tennant is going to
• 1:10
Speaker 4: be guest hosting on Wednesday, and then Andrew Donaldson from
• 1:13
Speaker 4: The Hotel Show and West Virginia Watch will be guest
• 1:17
Speaker 4: hosting on Thursday and Friday. So we'll have some guest
• 1:19
Speaker 4: hosts in here this week to fill in for Dave
• 1:22
Speaker 4: and I'll be here as well, and still the same
• 1:24
Speaker 4: show that you can tune into for all of the
• 1:27
Speaker 4: local happenings and things that are going on. One of
• 1:29
Speaker 4: the things we wanted to kick off right away, and
• 1:32
Speaker 4: we'll get to some other local happenings, but I wanted
• 1:34
Speaker 4: to do a little bit of a sports report. I'm
• 1:36
Speaker 4: going to bring Greg Carry onto the line now. Greg
• 1:38
Speaker 4: Carry from Metro News was following the West Virginia baseball
• 1:42
Speaker 4: team all weekend. I checked in with him a couple
• 1:43
Speaker 4: times last week on hotline to get kind of a
• 1:47
Speaker 4: preview of this weekend's festivities. West Virginia won two of
• 1:51
Speaker 4: three games against TCUU this weekend. We didn't quite get
• 1:55
Speaker 4: far enough, Greg. Good morning, Greg, thanks for joining me.
• 1:57
Speaker 2: By the way, Good morning, how you doing.
• 1:59
Speaker 4: I'm doing well, Thanks for joining me early. Really appreciate
• 2:01
Speaker 4: your time. When this Monday morning and westerning I had
• 2:04
Speaker 4: a good weekend. They won two out of three games
• 2:06
Speaker 4: against TCU. They won the series, but not quite enough
• 2:08
Speaker 4: to get a share of the Big twelve regular season title.
• 2:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, well said and accurate.
• 2:13
Speaker 5: I think you know, ultimately you got out of this
• 2:16
Speaker 5: series what you needed to get out of it, which
• 2:18
Speaker 5: was a series win. You beat another quality opponent and
• 2:21
Speaker 5: a TCU team that is right there on the bubble,
• 2:25
Speaker 5: right on the cusp of you know, either being in
• 2:27
Speaker 5: or just out of the NCAA tournament. And we'll find
• 2:29
Speaker 5: that out you're a week from today. But you know,
• 2:32
Speaker 5: it wasn't enough to win the Big Twelve. Kansas clinched
• 2:36
Speaker 5: that with the Game two victory late Friday night in
• 2:40
Speaker 5: Provo against BYU. So going into Saturday, West Virginia was
• 2:44
Speaker 5: aware that it could not no longer be the number
• 2:47
Speaker 5: one seed or a Big Twelve champion at number one
• 2:49
Speaker 5: seed in the Big twelve tournament that is, and they
• 2:52
Speaker 5: still battled back from a late four to three deficit.
• 2:54
Speaker 5: They end up pulling out a six or victory in
• 2:57
Speaker 5: that Saturday series finale, and that's a very critical result
• 3:00
Speaker 5: that sends West Virginia into the Big Twelve tournament this
• 3:03
Speaker 5: week as a number two seed, and ironically enough, there
• 3:07
Speaker 5: looks to be a decent chance that they will play
• 3:09
  Speaker 5: TCU again.
• 3:11
Speaker 4: So that with the play in game where TCU seeded
• 3:14
Speaker 4: Wes Virginia is off until Thursday. So if TCU pulls
• 3:16
Speaker 4: out on their series, that would be who Wesvirginia faces.
• 3:19
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 3:19
Speaker 5: Yeah, So Tuesday will be the opening games of the
• 3:22
Speaker 5: Big Twelve tournament with two of them, and the winner
• 3:24
Speaker 5: of Kansas State in Utah on Tuesday will then play
• 3:28
Speaker 5: TCU Wednesday, So either Kansas State or Utah will be
• 3:31
Speaker 5: facing TCU Wednesday. The winner of that game will then
• 3:34
Speaker 5: draw West Virginia on Thursday at seven thirty pm Eastern times.
• 3:38
Speaker 5: So certainly, you know, a decent opportunity here for these
• 3:41
Speaker 5: two teams to meet again. It will just take one
• 3:44
Speaker 5: TCU win for that to happen.
• 3:46
Speaker 2: And we know that.
• 3:47
Speaker 5: TCUs a capable club. They showed it this weekend. They
• 3:50
Speaker 5: were right there with West Virginia obviously won the second
• 3:53
Speaker 5: game of the series, had a late lead in the
• 3:55
Speaker 5: third game of the series. They were the preseason Big
• 3:58
Speaker 5: Twelve favorites, so that you know is talented. They were
• 4:02
Speaker 5: injured for a good portion of this season, and they're
• 4:04
Speaker 5: better play in the second half of the season seem
• 4:07
Speaker 5: to reflect the fact that they got a lot of
• 4:09
Speaker 5: those guys back, several name, you know, big name pitchers
• 4:12
Speaker 5: that came back into their rotation, and they're playing good
• 4:14
Speaker 5: baseball because they're a healthier team right now and they've
• 4:17
Speaker 5: got close to a full complement of players.
• 4:19
Speaker 4: Let's talk to just a little bit about folks that
• 4:20
Speaker 4: maybe are not used to how the tournament works, to
• 4:23
Speaker 4: seed into the larger College World Series tournament, how this
• 4:27
Speaker 4: what's westerting has hope on how this would play out
• 4:31
Speaker 4: and some of the options that would Obviously, you want
• 4:32
Speaker 4: to win the tournament if you can. If Wes Virginia
• 4:35
Speaker 4: wins a game or so in the tournament, but it
• 4:38
Speaker 4: doesn't quite win it, where does their path fall on
• 4:40
Speaker 4: this thing? Do they have an opportunity to host some
• 4:42
Speaker 4: games going into the next round of the national playoffs?
• 4:45
Speaker 4: They're going to be a relatively hot seed probably regardless.
• 4:48
Speaker 5: Right yeah, yeah, I think right now as it stands today,
• 4:51
Speaker 5: West Virginia can make a strong case that they would
• 4:54
Speaker 5: be one of the sixteen host seeds. You know, you're
• 4:56
Speaker 5: talking about basically four sixteen team brackets this point, or
• 5:01
Speaker 5: rather sixteen fourteen brackets, I should say at this point,
• 5:03
Speaker 5: and each of those you know brackets will have a host,
• 5:06
Speaker 5: so sixteen overall hosts. You'll learn those on Sunday of
• 5:10
Speaker 5: this upcoming week. They will actually be revealed a day
• 5:13
Speaker 5: before the entire NCAA tournament field, which that will be
• 5:16
Speaker 5: revealed on Monday during this selection show. But I do
• 5:19
Speaker 5: think West Virginia is still in a position where they
• 5:21
Speaker 5: have plenty to play for. I think they would sleep
• 5:23
Speaker 5: a lot better going into Sunday if they were able
• 5:26
Speaker 5: to win this first game of the Big twelve tournament
• 5:28
Speaker 5: on Thursday. I'm never a big believer, you know, just
• 5:31
Speaker 5: kind of like the bubble talk in the NCAA tournament.
• 5:34
Speaker 5: I don't truly know that, you know, one game is
• 5:37
Speaker 5: always the difference here of being in being out hosting
• 5:41
Speaker 5: not hosting. But the fact that West Virginia won two
• 5:43
Speaker 5: out of three against TCU this week, the fact that
• 5:45
Speaker 5: they've won nine out of ten coming down the stretch.
• 5:48
Speaker 5: They've got some quality victories, namely all three of those
• 5:50
Speaker 5: wins at Big twelve winner in Kansas, and you've got
• 5:54
Speaker 5: an opportunity for some more quality victories. Even if you
• 5:56
Speaker 5: don't play TCU, wouldn't be as meaningful of a win
• 6:00
Speaker 5: for your RPI and your metrics if you end up
• 6:02
Speaker 5: playing Kansas State or Utah. But theoretically it's a game
• 6:05
Speaker 5: that on paper you would probably give West Virginia a
• 6:07
Speaker 5: better chance to win. I think ultimately we've also got
• 6:10
Speaker 5: to depend on, you know, and see what happens ending
• 6:13
Speaker 5: some other results around the country and teams that are
• 6:15
Speaker 5: in a similar standing to West Virginia. But ultimately, if
• 6:18
Speaker 5: West Virginia wins Thursday, I expect them to be hosting
• 6:22
Speaker 5: to start the NCAA tournament. If they lose Thursday, I
• 6:25
Speaker 5: think they're not going to sleep quite as well. Maybe
• 6:27
Speaker 5: a fifty to fifty shot at best. But you know,
• 6:29
Speaker 5: if this team plays into Saturday and plays for a
• 6:32
Speaker 5: Big twelve championship, I see no way that they won't
• 6:35
Speaker 5: host if they win it. Obviously, I think that they're
• 6:37
Speaker 5: basically guaranteed to host at that point essentially, and I
• 6:40
Speaker 5: do think that one more win would leave them on
• 6:43
Speaker 5: the better side of fifty percent, especially if that win
• 6:46
Speaker 5: happens to come against TCU, which would be another enhancement
• 6:48
Speaker 5: to their postseason resume.
• 6:49
Speaker 4: Absolutely amazing information this morning from Greg carry breaking it
• 6:52
Speaker 4: all down if you're interested in that in West Virginia
• 6:54
Speaker 4: baseball team, as I know that many many people are.
• 6:57
Speaker 4: And that's one of the last things I want to
• 6:58
Speaker 4: talk to you about, gregor wrap up the converce with this,
• 7:00
Speaker 4: because one of the things that I'm a lifelong baseball fan,
• 7:03
Speaker 4: so it's been it's been heartening to me to see
• 7:06
Speaker 4: a lot of people that maybe were primary football baseball
• 7:09
Speaker 4: or football basketball fans starting to get into the baseball conversation.
• 7:13
Speaker 4: And one of the things that we're able to see
• 7:14
Speaker 4: now and this has been a change to major League
• 7:16
Speaker 4: baseball really within the last decade or so that I
• 7:18
Speaker 4: think is really helping the West Virginia fans become related
• 7:21
Speaker 4: to the team is suddenly, unlike before in college baseball,
• 7:25
Speaker 4: if you got a guy that got drafted, it was
• 7:28
Speaker 4: oftentimes a typical path to major league baseball. You toiled
• 7:31
Speaker 4: around in at minor leagues for a while. You're a
• 7:33
Speaker 4: little older, so maybe you got maybe you got a
• 7:36
Speaker 4: little quicker, but still there was a three or four
• 7:38
Speaker 4: year period in there before you got to the league.
• 7:40
Speaker 4: The way that baseball's work now there's so much there's
• 7:43
Speaker 4: so much capital put onto prospects, and these guys are
• 7:45
Speaker 4: getting better faster. We see guys right away, especially with
• 7:48
Speaker 4: the ascension of West Virginia's baseball program, we see guys
• 7:51
Speaker 4: right away get to the league and make a difference.
• 7:53
Speaker 4: We've seen Victor Scott's been with the Cardinals for a while,
• 7:56
Speaker 4: he played well. Alex Manoa not doing so well now,
• 7:58
Speaker 4: but he had a cup of coffee for a while,
• 8:00
Speaker 4: was it a very effective pitcher. JJ Weatherholt this year
• 8:02
Speaker 4: has had some of the biggest hits early season in
• 8:04
Speaker 4: the Cardinals of any of their players. This really helps,
• 8:07
Speaker 4: I think from a fan standpoint, because you can see
• 8:09
Speaker 4: these guys just like we can in the in the NFL.
• 8:12
Speaker 5: Absolutely, I think it's well said, and you know, particularly
• 8:15
Speaker 5: in the case of Weatherholt, he was obviously an extremely
• 8:18
Speaker 5: accomplished player, maybe you know, one of the better hitters,
• 8:20
Speaker 5: without question, maybe the single best hitter to ever come
• 8:23
Speaker 5: through West Virginia's baseball program, seventh overall draft pick.
• 8:27
Speaker 2: You know, I was at P and C.
• 8:28
Speaker 5: Parks a few weeks ago and got to speak to
• 8:30
Speaker 5: Weatherholt before he played against the Pirates there in a
• 8:32
Speaker 5: big series where he hit a couple of home runs
• 8:34
Speaker 5: and the Cardinals swept that four game set at P
• 8:36
Speaker 5: and C. But you know, he talked about how he
• 8:39
Speaker 5: wasn't close to being pro ready when he came out
• 8:42
Speaker 5: of high school. He was not a heralded recruit. He
• 8:44
Speaker 5: needed to go through the college process. He needed to
• 8:46
Speaker 5: see top tier Division one pitching, he needed to add strength,
• 8:50
Speaker 5: he needed basically just you know, better fundamental understanding of
• 8:53
Speaker 5: a swing and defensive positionings and certain things to come
• 8:56
Speaker 5: with it. And it worked wonders for him. And you know,
• 8:58
Speaker 5: you look at the success that he's in his rookie
• 9:00
Speaker 5: season this year in the MLB, and it's been less
• 9:03
Speaker 5: than two years since he was even drafted, and he's,
• 9:06
Speaker 5: you know, certainly going to be one of the front runners,
• 9:08
Speaker 5: if not the number one front runner for the National
• 9:10
Speaker 5: League Rookie of the Year health permitting, it looks like
• 9:12
Speaker 5: he's on track to certainly stay in that race to
• 9:14
  Speaker 5: this point.
• 9:15
  Speaker 2: And you're right.
• 9:16
Speaker 5: And the other thing that it does is it certainly
• 9:18
Speaker 5: helps in recruiting. You know, you take this kid from
• 9:20
Speaker 5: the Pittsburgh area, like where JJ Weatherhold is from, and
• 9:23
Speaker 5: there's plenty of baseball talent up there, that person that's
• 9:26
Speaker 5: you know, these people and these kids in high school
• 9:28
Speaker 5: and middle school are seeing the success that Weatherhold has,
• 9:31
Speaker 5: seeing the success that West Virginia has as a large scale.
• 9:34
Speaker 5: They're going to be in the NCAA Tournament for a
• 9:36
Speaker 5: third straight season this year. Unquestionably, they've been in the
• 9:39
Speaker 5: Super Regionals East of the last two years. They've won
• 9:41
Speaker 5: a big twelve championship. They're regularly drawing twenty five hundred
• 9:45
Speaker 5: people for home games. They play in a ballpark that's
• 9:49
Speaker 5: barely over a decade old, so a lot of the
• 9:52
Speaker 5: positive momentum for West Virginia's baseball program. They've invested into
• 9:55
Speaker 5: the program. They've added scholarships, they've upgraded facilities, and it's
• 9:58
Speaker 5: paying off in form of the results. They've really struck
• 10:01
Speaker 5: gold in a lot of these transfers that they've added,
• 10:03
Speaker 5: especially this year with their pitching staff, and it's really
• 10:06
Speaker 5: it's been done by all parties. You know, it's a
• 10:08
Speaker 5: credit goes to the top of the athletic department and
• 10:11
Speaker 5: Ren Baker, and you know, even going back to Oliver Locke,
• 10:14
Speaker 5: he was the reason that the baseball stadium was there
• 10:16
Speaker 5: in the first place. But then the coaching transition when
• 10:18
Speaker 5: Randy Mazy stepped away, we didn't really know what was
• 10:21
Speaker 5: to come. And Steve Sabins has shown over these two
• 10:23
Speaker 5: years that he is absolutely a rising star in this profession.
• 10:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, that is so well said, and it's been such
• 10:30
Speaker 4: an amazing thing to watch this assension. The last thing
• 10:32
Speaker 4: that I wanted to bring up with that is simply
• 10:34
Speaker 4: that westerging is when you look at how good this
• 10:35
Speaker 4: team is now and you kind of look at their
• 10:37
Speaker 4: top four or five guys. If you look at Gavin Kelly,
• 10:40
Speaker 4: the catra slash halsefielder, such a utility guy and has
• 10:43
Speaker 4: had a monster season, mix Yelle the great pitcher, of
• 10:46
Speaker 4: course he's just a junior. Kelly is a sophomore Chance
• 10:49
Speaker 4: and Cole the other one of their other great pitchers
• 10:51
Speaker 4: is just a sophomore, Armani Guzman, who led the Big
• 10:53
Speaker 4: twelve in stolen bases as a junior. There's a lot,
• 10:55
Speaker 4: I mean, this is college sports now, but generally speaking,
• 10:58
Speaker 4: looking at this team, there's a lot coming back even
• 11:00
Speaker 4: for next year, and who knows when it comes to
• 11:02
Speaker 4: the next level with some of these guys getting to
• 11:04
  Speaker 4: the league right.
• 11:05
Speaker 5: Yeah, and now, pitcher like Max Yell is almost certainly
• 11:08
Speaker 5: going to be a fairly high draft pick, you know, permitting,
• 11:12
Speaker 5: I would expect there's a very good chance that you
• 11:14
Speaker 5: won't see him in a West Virginia uniform. But you
• 11:16
Speaker 5: mentioned the rest of the characters and the rest of that,
• 11:18
Speaker 5: you know cast, a lot of those guys are going
• 11:20
Speaker 5: to have to be back. Some of them, you know,
• 11:22
Speaker 5: maybe often trained. You know, some of these guys maybe
• 11:24
Speaker 5: transfer and go to a different program. I'm not sure
• 11:26
Speaker 5: any of the ones that you named would, but obviously
• 11:29
Speaker 5: there will be some.
• 11:29
Speaker 2: Attrition on the roster.
• 11:30
Speaker 5: But yeah, you're you're right, I mean, Gavin Kelly, you
• 11:33
Speaker 5: don't have to be near the hitter that Gavin Kelly
• 11:35
Speaker 5: is when you're a catching prospect to you know, make
• 11:37
Speaker 5: it in professional baseball and get an opportunity at the
• 11:39
Speaker 5: next level. Gavin Kelly is West Virginia's best hitter. He's
• 11:42
Speaker 5: one of the better hitters.
• 11:43
Speaker 2: In the Big Twelve.
• 11:44
Speaker 5: You add to it the defensive versatility that he's able
• 11:47
Speaker 5: to give you four or five games a week catching.
• 11:51
Speaker 5: Can you know, just as easily slide out and play
• 11:53
Speaker 5: middle infield spot there expecting base you know, it's it
• 11:56
Speaker 5: certainly does a lot for his pro prospects. He's a
• 11:59
Speaker 5: very season player for his age. I think it's easy
• 12:01
Speaker 5: to forget when you watch him. He's only been playing
• 12:03
Speaker 5: college baseball for two years. But that's a kid that
• 12:06
Speaker 5: last season was starting at LSU in a super regional
• 12:09
Speaker 5: and playing against top tier competition and you know, potential
• 12:13
Speaker 5: first round draft picks that the Tigers had as they
• 12:15
Speaker 5: went on to win the national championship, and he was
• 12:17
Speaker 5: having success in doing it in front of twelve thousand
• 12:19
Speaker 5: people there. So you know, those only really that only
• 12:22
Speaker 5: really benefits you down the line and aide you. And
• 12:25
Speaker 5: as a sophomore, we've seen him take that next step,
• 12:27
Speaker 5: so it'll certainly be followed fun to follow the trajectory
• 12:30
Speaker 5: of his career. But as we know, even if West
• 12:33
Speaker 5: Virginia does lose some key players, which it's going to happen,
• 12:36
Speaker 5: I mean, it's just been evitable, whether it be through
• 12:38
Speaker 5: the transfer portal, through draft picks, through you know, other opportunities.
• 12:43
Speaker 5: This is a team that has put together the ability
• 12:46
Speaker 5: to go find kitchers for in particular at smaller lower
• 12:50
Speaker 5: levels Division two levels. Even the Division three commit they
• 12:53
Speaker 5: got last week from Marietta College has some pretty gaudy statistics.
• 12:56
Speaker 5: But you go back to the last few years, it was
• 12:58
Speaker 5: Derek Clark two years ago was the ace to the staff.
• 13:00
Speaker 5: He was a Division two transfer. Last year it was
• 13:02
Speaker 5: Griffin Kern, he was a Division two transfer. This year
• 13:05
Speaker 5: you've had both Chance and Cole and Dawson Montesa pretty
• 13:08
Speaker 5: regularly in the rotation. Cole has been a lot more
• 13:11
Speaker 5: successful than Montesa, but Montesa's still been a serviceable piece
• 13:14
Speaker 5: for West Virginia. And then adding Ian Corn and he's
• 13:16
Speaker 5: been a long reliever with a couple starts, and he's
• 13:19
Speaker 5: been as important as success as anybody on that pitching staff.

Speaker 4: Great information from Greg Carry from Mesher News breaking down

• 13:42
Speaker 4: we'll see how that shakes out once these early games

• 13:47
Speaker 4: being the number two overall seed, and we'll see how
• 13:49
Speaker 4: the season plays out after that, going into the rest
• 13:51
Speaker 4: of the postseason. Greg, thank you so much for being
• 13:53
Speaker 4: with me early and breaking all that down with me.
• 13:55
Speaker 4: That was great information. Thank you so much.

Speaker 4: and now you absolutely know, delicate Hollis Lewis is going
• 14:09
Speaker 4: to join me when we come back. There's been some
• 14:10
Speaker 4: chatter this weekend, notice this online and also scanner traffic
• 14:14
Speaker 4: with with teens and young folks playing with squirt guns
• 14:20
Speaker 4: over on the West side. And I think this is
• 14:22
Speaker 4: part of the team takeover thing that's happening around the country.
• 14:25
Speaker 4: This isn't just in West Virginia, but they're using squirt
• 14:27
Speaker 4: guns here. And there was some man some ambiguous calls
• 14:31
Speaker 4: that were made into that were made in that came
• 14:34
Speaker 4: over the scanner. Some parents on Facebook have some concerns
• 14:37

Speaker 10: Thank you for having me on.
• 18:18
Speaker 2: Goot to talk to you, Coop.
• 18:18
Speaker 6: Good to talk to you too, Holliston.
• 18:20
Speaker 4: And one of the things I saw on Facebook some
• 18:22
Speaker 4: some parents this weekend and uh, and it's something you
• 18:25
Speaker 4: responded to as well. Some some friends of mine also
• 18:28
Speaker 4: that have some family that lives over on the west
• 18:30
Speaker 4: side of Charleston. I think that what we're that what
• 18:32
Speaker 4: we're seeing in Charleston, I've seen, uh nationally, I've seen
• 18:36
Speaker 4: this stuff going on with teen takeovers or youth takeovers
• 18:38
Speaker 4: where they're flooding different zones with different different activities that
• 18:41
Speaker 4: they're doing. I think that what seems to be happening
• 18:44
Speaker 4: in our neighborhoods here in Charleston is there's kids that
• 18:47
Speaker 4: are that are playing, but they're playing with with squirt guns,
• 18:51
Speaker 4: which you know, sounds like so what they're playing with
• 18:54
Speaker 4: squirt guns. But there's something a little concerning maybe about
• 18:57
Speaker 4: what's going on here.
• 19:00
Speaker 10: Yeah, I heard them referred to as splat guns and
• 19:04
Speaker 10: what they are there again, there's a variety of the
• 19:07
Speaker 10: different type of toys. Some of them actually resemble toys
• 19:10
Speaker 10: and different things like that nature. Some of them shoot water,
• 19:13
Speaker 10: otherm shoot like little like I guess, like water pellets
• 19:16
  Speaker 10: and different.
• 19:17
Speaker 2: Things of that nature.
• 19:17
Speaker 10: And some of them look more realistic and some of
• 19:20
Speaker 10: them have been modified by the teams.
• 19:22
Speaker 11: To look a little bit more real.
• 19:25
Speaker 10: And I got a call from a constituent the other
• 19:27
Speaker 10: day about kids, you know, riding in cars and shooting
• 19:31
Speaker 10: like water guns and the s black guns that unsuspecting
• 19:34
Speaker 10: individuals on the street, including a couple of kids, got
• 19:38
Speaker 10: hit with some and also a high ranking federal officer
• 19:42
Speaker 10: on the West side got hit with one of those
• 19:44
Speaker 10: black guns. So I wanted just to make a post
• 19:47
Speaker 10: to not again, not target anybody, not you know, be
• 19:51
Speaker 10: overly moralistic about this or that, but just simply just
• 19:55
Speaker 10: to pit parents on notice that you know kids are
• 19:59
Speaker 10: doing this, talk to kids about doing this, to stay
• 20:01
Speaker 10: within their zone the block, and also to let law
• 20:05
Speaker 10: enforce to know, which they already knew, but just to
• 20:07
Speaker 10: make sure they knew about what was going on. So
• 20:10
Speaker 10: those toys are not mistaken for real weapons, and we don't,
• 20:15
Speaker 10: you know, just want to avoid a tragic incident.
• 20:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, And and I saw a lot of the give
• 20:21
Speaker 4: and take on this, and there was a lot of
• 20:23
Speaker 4: maybe parents around my age. I'm in my fifties. And
• 20:25
Speaker 4: when I grew up in Cole River in Saint albans
• 20:28
Speaker 4: I had I had a little creek that that was overgrown.
• 20:32
  Speaker 4: I kept a bunch of I kept a bunch of
• 20:34
Speaker 4: military surplus in there because I was a goofy kid
• 20:37
Speaker 4: that that thought Rambo was the coolest thing in the world.
• 20:39
Speaker 4: I would go around dressed in camo with a giant
• 20:41
Speaker 4: knife on my on my on my belt and a
• 20:44
Speaker 4: realistic looking fake gun that I would carry around that
• 20:47
Speaker 4: shot pellets or something out of it. Nobody gave me
• 20:51
Speaker 4: two nods. Back in the day, this was in like,
• 20:53
Speaker 4: you know, nineteen eighty three or something, you know, it was,
• 20:55
Speaker 4: it was quite some time ago. That was pre callibine.
• 20:57
Speaker 4: That was pre a lot of things that go on now,
• 20:59
Speaker 4: and frankly pre open carry and concealed permitting things like that.
• 21:05
  Speaker 4: It's a little concerning if somebody's out there that's a
• 21:08
Speaker 4: you know, maybe a little bit antsy, or it's dark out,
• 21:11
Speaker 4: you're not really sure what the situation is going on.
• 21:13
Speaker 4: It could it could relay itself into a potentially dangerous situation.
• 21:16
Speaker 4: So we just want to be aware of what we're doing.
• 21:19
Speaker 4: Kids are going to play, but we have to be
• 21:20
Speaker 4: a little bit of a situational awareness of what's going on.
• 21:24
  Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
• 21:25
Speaker 10: And we've seen these incidents turn these sort of incidents
• 21:28
Speaker 10: turned tragic with like a Tamior Rice or Tavon Martin.
• 21:31
Speaker 10: And also, you know, I've heard those sort of sentiments, well,
• 21:35
Speaker 10: let kids be kids. Well, this isn't the eighties, this
• 21:37
Speaker 10: isn't the nineties. This isn't those times where you know,
• 21:40
Speaker 10: law enforcement and citizens are used to just seeing people
• 21:43
Speaker 10: play out on the streets. Now, kids don't play out
• 21:47
Speaker 10: on the street as much. So if you're not already
• 21:49
Speaker 10: used to seeing kids congregating and just generally playing out
• 21:53
Speaker 10: on the streets, and now you're seeing a group of
• 21:56
Speaker 10: kids and they're shooting what you may miss idea if
• 22:00
Speaker 10: I as a real weapons, that can be concerning not
• 22:03
Speaker 10: onto law enforcement, as you mentioned, it can be concerning
• 22:06
Speaker 10: to a constituent, excuse me, a citizen who does have
• 22:09
Speaker 10: a you know, the right to open carry or concealed carries. Now,
• 22:13
Speaker 10: so it just could potentially create a dangerous situation. So
• 22:18
Speaker 10: I'm in part glad that the conversation got as big
• 22:21
Speaker 10: as it did. Now most I would say, you know,
• 22:24
Speaker 10: at least those individuals who are on social media, they
• 22:27
Speaker 10: are aware of the situation. So I think that was
• 22:31
Speaker 10: the most important thing that came.
• 22:32
  Speaker 2: Out of this.
• 22:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree with you. It's not like this is
• 22:35
Speaker 4: necessarily an emergency. I just wanted to do a public
• 22:37
Speaker 4: peace on it just in case. Maybe you're driving around
• 22:39
Speaker 4: and you see a bunch of kids and you're wondering
• 22:41
Speaker 4: those what are they doing? Chances are you know, just
• 22:44
Speaker 4: be aware that there's kids out doing these things. Some
• 22:47
Speaker 4: of them might be shooting water at the cars and
• 22:49
Speaker 4: things like that. That's not necessarily good, but just think
• 22:51
Speaker 4: for a minute before you react, because whether it's technically
• 22:56
Speaker 4: right or not, if it's just kids with water guns,
• 22:58
Speaker 4: you need to be aware.
• 22:59
Speaker 6: That's what it is, one hundred percent.
• 23:01
Speaker 10: And in addition, we want to make sure that parents
• 23:03
Speaker 10: are aware. You used to talk to their kids about like, hey,
• 23:06
Speaker 10: if you're buying the toys, if you know your kids
• 23:08
Speaker 10: already have them, just to make sure that they also,
• 23:11
Speaker 10: like you said, have that situational awareness and you know,
• 23:14
Speaker 10: make sure they're not modifying them and make sure they're
• 23:17
Speaker 10: just playing with them as toys, and you know, setting
• 23:19
Speaker 10: up some rules and regulations so they are safe while
• 23:22
Speaker 10: they're in the street.
• 23:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that's all that I want to do, is
• 23:25
Speaker 4: get a little bit of a piece out there to
• 23:26
Speaker 4: make sure that folks were aware of this. Of course,
• 23:28
Speaker 4: if there's any problems, contact local law enforcement, contact your
• 23:32
Speaker 4: local rep. Whatever it might be. But just make sure
• 23:34
Speaker 4: that we're treating the community appropriately, that we know that
• 23:37
Speaker 4: they're kids that might be playing. Kids will do knuckleheaded
• 23:39
Speaker 4: things sometimes you got to be aware of that every
• 23:41
Speaker 4: once in a while that they're out there. But just
• 23:43
Speaker 4: keep in mind, and also, parents, we're not living when
• 23:46
Speaker 4: you grew up. I mean, believe me, when I grew up,
• 23:48
Speaker 4: you could do whatever you want. I mean I would
• 23:50
Speaker 4: go down to AG's Military surplus in South Charles and
• 23:52
Speaker 4: I would have Ninja stars all over me. I would
• 23:54
Speaker 4: have a big eight inch bowie knife on my belt.
• 23:57
Speaker 4: I would have a pelagun that looked just like like
• 24:00
Speaker 4: a forty four magnum or something like that, designed to
• 24:02
Speaker 4: look just like one. And I would be walking around
• 24:04
Speaker 4: and you're like, hey, look at that kid. Nobody thought
• 24:06
Speaker 4: two things about it. It's not the same day.
• 24:08
  Speaker 2: Man.
• 24:09
Speaker 4: I'm sorry, but it's just not nineteen eighty three anymore. Unfortunately,
• 24:12
Speaker 4: one hundred percent. I couldn't have said it better. And
• 24:15
Speaker 4: if you are in the Charleston area, you have is
• 24:17
Speaker 4: you can always contact rosci T Officer Travis Bill. So
• 24:22
Speaker 4: if it's like you know, obviously not criminal, just related,
• 24:25
Speaker 4: you just need some additional help or be putting in
• 24:27
Speaker 4: a right direction to services Hallis. I appreciate you taking
• 24:30
Speaker 4: a couple of minutes out this morning and sharing this.
• 24:32
Speaker 4: I just wanted to get that community piece out there
• 24:33
Speaker 4: just in case somebody runs into this. So maybe they
• 24:35
Speaker 4: know a little bit what's going on and maybe make
• 24:37
Speaker 4: somebody think twice every once in a while.

Speaker 4: I straight up looked like I mean, callabond. Before callibond, probably,
• 25:14
Speaker 4: I mean I had ill fitting camos and stuff that
• 25:18
Speaker 4: I that I would find from somewhere. I would have
• 25:21
Speaker 4: knobs all over me. I had these these shurrigans, you know,
• 25:24
Speaker 4: the Chinese throwing stars. I had, you know, magnetized oftentimes
• 25:28
Speaker 4: to like a bandalier that when fake guns, you know,
• 25:32
Speaker 4: the whole outfit. I would paint up my face and
• 25:35
Speaker 4: we would go play, you know, play War in the

• 25:39
Speaker 4: lot of the times. Wasn't a big deal in the eighties.
• 25:42
Speaker 4: Just not so sure that that's necessarily.
• 25:45
Speaker 6: The case today. Not so sure it's necessarily the case.

• 29:50
Speaker 4: just tell them that ESSI sentcha because s he is
• 29:52
Speaker 4: a huge fan of the husband's pizza. Just had delicate
• 29:55
Speaker 4: Lewis one. We were talking about these all these things
• 29:58
Speaker 4: that are going on with these kids takeovers. I was
• 30:01
Speaker 4: doing a little bit of broader research with this. I
• 30:03
Speaker 4: don't know if this is part of the same quite
• 30:05
Speaker 4: the same cultural takeoff. There's some stuff social media stuff
• 30:08
Speaker 4: like on TikTok and things like that, where there's there's
• 30:11
Speaker 4: team takeovers. There's a big story I think in the
• 30:13
Speaker 4: New York Post or something this weekend where there's kids
• 30:16
Speaker 4: in New York that are It's not violent, it's flooding
• 30:19
  Speaker 4: public spaces.
• 30:21
Speaker 6: I mean, frankly, when I was.
• 30:23
Speaker 4: A kid, it was normal for for for kids to
• 30:26
Speaker 4: show up and and to participate in outdoor spaces. But
• 30:30
Speaker 4: I guess that it's seen, and depending on some of
• 30:33
Speaker 4: the vibe to it, I guess it's seen a somewhat
• 30:35
Speaker 4: threatening now when a bunch of kids show up in
• 30:37
Speaker 4: one public place and do quote unquote takeovers. I don't
• 30:41
Speaker 4: know if that's a subset of what's going on here
• 30:43
Speaker 4: in Charleston, but there's some kids that are out there
• 30:45
Speaker 4: that are playing with these sport guns or these water
• 30:49
Speaker 4: these water guns that are sort of like old paintball
• 30:51
Speaker 4: guns without as heart of a bladder. They don't go
• 30:54
Speaker 4: quite as far, but they do splat splat guns that
• 30:57
Speaker 4: does that, And it's just one of those things that, again,
• 31:00
Speaker 4: when I was a kid, this wouldn't have been an
• 31:03
Speaker 4: issue at all, but things are different now, and that's
• 31:06
Speaker 4: just the way it is. We have some responses on
• 31:07
Speaker 4: the text line. You're welcome to get in as well
• 31:09
Speaker 4: if you want to send in an over text with
• 31:11
Speaker 4: this or any other topic in the area. This morning
• 31:13
Speaker 4: three zero four three four five or threes are four
• 31:15
Speaker 4: nonin three five five zer zero eight is the Tony
• 31:17
Speaker 4: Detailer text line. Threes are four non three five five
• 31:19
Speaker 4: zero zero eight. You can also send us a message
• 31:22
Speaker 4: on the Guarantee Bank or you can call on the
• 31:24
Speaker 4: Guaranteed Bank phone line. That's the zero four three four
• 31:26
Speaker 4: five fifty eight fifty eight three four five fifty eight fifty.
• 31:28
Speaker 4: We're here for another twenty minutes or so if you
• 31:30
Speaker 4: want to get in on a phone call this morning.
• 31:32
Speaker 4: Let's see from the three zero four four three seven.
• 31:38
  Speaker 6: Let's see.
• 31:39
Speaker 4: Uh, let me, I'll get to that one in just
• 31:41
Speaker 4: a second. That one is not quite one topic, okay,
• 31:43
Speaker 4: So from the from the three zero four or from
• 31:46
Speaker 4: the six eight one four seven four, parents get control
• 31:48
Speaker 4: of your kids to the little punks doing this. This
• 31:50
Speaker 4: is not Detroit, This is not Los Angeles. This is
• 31:52
Speaker 4: not New York where kids run over authority. Here in
• 31:55
Speaker 4: West Virginia, we don't put up with this stuff because
• 31:57
Speaker 4: someone will get shot over this, especially somebody that's had
• 31:59
Speaker 4: their are broken into twice and that had their people
• 32:01
Speaker 4: come into their yards like junkies. So if you come
• 32:04
Speaker 4: with your little gun, nobodys want to ask you if
• 32:05
Speaker 4: it's real or not, then it's too late because it is. Look,
• 32:10
Speaker 4: I'm not saying that that sentiment isn't prevalent. I'm just
• 32:13
Speaker 4: saying when I was growing up, that would have been
• 32:15
Speaker 4: a ridiculous sentiment because the kids were playing like that
• 32:18
Speaker 4: all the time. They had their fake guns all of
• 32:20
Speaker 4: the time, cowboys and Indians. Look, I b I grew
• 32:23
Speaker 4: up in a time that celebrated this sort of thing.
• 32:26
Speaker 4: You got in trouble for watching like Lady Chatterley on Cinemax.
• 32:29
Speaker 4: You didn't get in trouble for watching Rambo. So the
• 32:31
Speaker 4: violence was okay, and pretending of the violence was okay.
• 32:35
Speaker 4: I understand where you're coming from here, but man, we
• 32:37
Speaker 4: have a whole system of where this stuff is okay,
• 32:41
Speaker 4: and our movies and our culture and things along those lines.
• 32:43
Speaker 6: Kids go out and.
• 32:44
Speaker 4: Play cowboys and Indians, cops and robbers. It's been going
• 32:47
Speaker 4: on forever. So I understand what you're saying. But at
• 32:51
Speaker 4: some point or another, we got to allow kids to
• 32:55
Speaker 4: be kids too, or at least to have a little
• 32:56
Speaker 4: bit of a situational awareness. On the flip side of it,
• 33:00
Speaker 4: I think parents do as well. It's not as safe
• 33:02
Speaker 4: out there as it once was. It's a complicated discussion
• 33:04
Speaker 4: when it comes with this stuff coming up at the
• 33:06
Speaker 4: top of the hour. Want to have a talk line.
• 33:08
Speaker 4: Of course tackling the top big stories of the day
• 33:10
Speaker 4: from a state wide perspective. A lot of those have
• 33:12
Speaker 4: to do with things that happen here in the Charleston area.
• 33:15
Speaker 4: But I always like when I do the show to
• 33:17
Speaker 4: maybe have an opportunity to focus on the things that
• 33:19
Speaker 4: are happening hyper locally here in the Kanall Valley. I
• 33:21
Speaker 4: asked Jeff Jenkins to come in just for a second,
• 33:23
Speaker 4: just so we could touch on some of these stories,
• 33:24
Speaker 4: because there's it's a big news date locally as well,
• 33:27
Speaker 4: not just state wide.
• 33:28
Speaker 17: Yeah, let me just pass along something here too. We've
• 33:30
Speaker 17: got a fatal that's just been reported in Onwa on
• 33:35
Speaker 17: UISH Route sixty down in Capel County there in Owa,
• 33:42
Speaker 17: not far from the Putnam County line, and it's a
• 33:45
Speaker 17: two vehicles confirmed here. I'm trying to check if it's
• 33:50
Speaker 17: two vehicles, but we do know it is a crash
• 33:53
Speaker 17: that has resulted in a death and that happened right
• 33:56
Speaker 17: around eight forty five, so just a little less than
• 33:59
Speaker 17: an hour ago, so I had some information about that,
• 34:02
Speaker 17: but they're still working that scene, so US Route sixty
• 34:09
Speaker 17: is closed in that area. Also, we just heard from
• 34:14
Speaker 17: Daniel Woods and a case that we've been following in
• 34:19
Speaker 17: Kanaw County is Jacob Fields. He was the young man
• 34:25
Speaker 17: who was charged last year. Folks who remember remember this
• 34:30
Speaker 17: case in the shooting death of Tiffany Atkins, a Marmette
• 34:34
Speaker 17: woman who was walking into the sheets in Kanas City.
• 34:38
Speaker 17: Didn't know her he was pumping gas. At first, it
• 34:42
Speaker 17: was called an accidental shooting. He said he was cleaning
• 34:44
Speaker 17: his gun, his gun went off, but not too long
• 34:47
Speaker 17: afterward they charged him with murder because they said they
• 34:49
Speaker 17: saw Prosecutors said the video surveillance showed that he was
• 34:56
Speaker 17: that he it was intentional, he pointed the gun. Uh
• 35:00
Speaker 17: And so that that case was scheduled to go to
• 35:02
Speaker 17: trial later this year. The fact they just had a
• 35:04
Speaker 17: hearing a few weeks ago that we covered a pre
• 35:06
Speaker 17: trial hearing that the defense said, you know it was
• 35:10
Speaker 17: starting to go over. You know a lot of discovery
• 35:12
Speaker 17: and one of more discovery. Well, he has pled this
• 35:15
Speaker 17: morning in court this morning, just got this from Daniel Woods.
• 35:18
Speaker 17: He's in the courtroom. He's pled to involuntary manslaughter, which
• 35:24
Speaker 17: is basically a misdemeanor which is an accidental shooting.
• 35:27
  Speaker 3: Uh.
• 35:28
Speaker 17: So he's pled the involuntary manslaughter and want an endangement
• 35:30
Speaker 17: with a firearm. So I have to get the facts
• 35:33
Speaker 17: to that case. So involuntary is different than voluntary, which
• 35:37
Speaker 17: is which is an intentional death, and it's you know,
• 35:41
Speaker 17: it's a couple steps down from like first degree murder.
• 35:43
Speaker 17: But but but we understand from Daniel he's played guilty
• 35:47
Speaker 17: to involuntary manslaughter and want an endangement with a firearm.
• 35:50
Speaker 17: So the prosecutors obviously offered that plea agreement, plea plea
• 35:57
Speaker 17: bargain and he took it. So we'll get more information
• 36:02
  Speaker 17: about that.
• 36:02
Speaker 4: So this is the one where the defense was claiming
• 36:06
Speaker 4: that he was hallucinating, he was high.
• 36:08
  Speaker 6: That's a different one.
• 36:09
  Speaker 2: That was it.
• 36:09
  Speaker 6: I'm sorry I got one.
• 36:11
Speaker 17: So this one, this one was the Knas City sheets
• 36:14
  Speaker 17: last summer.
• 36:15
Speaker 6: That's right, the boy in the suv or the car.
• 36:19
Speaker 17: Right, he's a truck. Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, Jacob Field
• 36:22
Speaker 17: is in a truck. That's teenager. I think he was
• 36:24
Speaker 17: nineteen at the time. And uh, and he didn't know
• 36:29
Speaker 17: Tiffany Aikins. The morment one, she was walking toward the
• 36:32
Speaker 17: front door of the sheets to go in the sheets
• 36:34
Speaker 17: and she was shot and died. Now, prosecutors originally called this,
• 36:38
Speaker 17: they were calling this a thrill kill. But again he's
• 36:42
Speaker 17: pled to involuntary manslaughter and want dangement with a firearm.
• 36:46
  Speaker 17: So we'll see there was all I mean, I wasn't
• 36:50
Speaker 17: in the courtroom, Daniels, So we'll report what was said
• 36:52
Speaker 17: in the courtroom today. But it kind of sounds like
• 36:55
Speaker 17: the prosecution had a problem with their case. You know,
• 36:59
Speaker 17: there's some there's some weakness. There's some weakness there to
• 37:02
Speaker 17: their case. So we'll get more on that. The trial
• 37:07
Speaker 17: you're talking about is Timothy Kennedy. Kennedy who's charged with
• 37:12
Speaker 17: killing State Police Sergeant Corey Maynard. And the Mayners lived
• 37:16
Speaker 17: in this area. You lived in this area and Sergeant
• 37:21
Speaker 17: Maynard was shot. Is now nearly three years ago. Next
• 37:25
Speaker 17: month it'll be three years. And so Kennedy's been on trial.
• 37:27
Speaker 17: This is the third week, and it looks like they're
• 37:30
Speaker 17: getting close to rap. Well, the defense rested their case
• 37:33
Speaker 17: on Friday, late Friday afternoon, and so if there was
• 37:36
Speaker 17: any rebuttal witnesses from the prosecution, they will be called
• 37:39
Speaker 17: this morning. If not, we're getting into the final stages
• 37:41
Speaker 17: of the trial. So it's lasted a really long time.
• 37:45
Speaker 17: There's no denial there that he fired the gun. His
• 37:49
Speaker 17: defense is that he was hallucinating on math and didn't
• 37:53
Speaker 17: remember what he did so or didn't know what he did.
• 37:57
Speaker 17: So we see what the jury what the defense here,
• 38:01
Speaker 17: and they've basically said it in which you can tell
• 38:04
Speaker 17: with I mean, there aren't denying that he shot and
• 38:06
Speaker 17: killed the trooper, but they want they wanted the lesser charge,
• 38:11
Speaker 17: and they want a conviction on not first degree murder
• 38:14
Speaker 17: but a second degree murder, a voluntary man slaughter that
• 38:17
Speaker 17: shows you know, premeditation or something like that.
• 38:21
  Speaker 1: So we'll see.
• 38:22
  Speaker 17: I mean, they've they've they've put on they have put
• 38:25
Speaker 17: on a pretty long defense. And Chris and I were
• 38:27
Speaker 17: just talking about Chris Larens and I were just talking
• 38:29
Speaker 17: about it. In similar cases you don't see this. It's
• 38:32
Speaker 17: pretty a robust defense quite honestly, several days expert witnesses
• 38:36
Speaker 17: to try to prove their point. So we'll see, we'll
• 38:39
Speaker 17: see what the jury thinks, see what the jury thinks on.
• 38:42
Speaker 6: That man at Those are two big stories.
• 38:44
Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah, A couple of things. Other things is that
• 38:47
Speaker 17: Charustle City Council meets tonight and they'll approve a paving project,
• 38:54
Speaker 17: a paving, the summer paving program. I think it's about
• 38:57
Speaker 17: three million dollars or so streets it will be. So
• 39:00
Speaker 17: there's so little prove that tonight. And the mayor said
• 39:04
Speaker 17: late last week actually on this show, about just all
• 39:07
Speaker 17: the construction's going to be going on. We got a
• 39:08
Speaker 17: lot of bridge construction taking place, We're gonna have at
• 39:11
Speaker 17: the paving. We've got the Capital Connector project. We'll start
• 39:14
Speaker 17: seeing construction on that in the near future. So there's
• 39:17
Speaker 17: going to be a good bit of a construction going
• 39:19
  Speaker 17: on around here.
• 39:20
Speaker 4: I already have people I guess that are traveling from
• 39:23
Speaker 4: out of Charleston who are texting me on hotline that
• 39:26
Speaker 4: are coming into Charleston and said, Coop, what's going on
• 39:28
Speaker 4: with the traffic here?
• 39:29
Speaker 6: Can you help me out?
• 39:30
Speaker 4: Charleston the summer man busy activities, and we have some
• 39:33
Speaker 4: construction going on now, so you just have to be
• 39:35
Speaker 4: aware of those things. Yeah, exactly. It's just there are
• 39:37
Speaker 4: sights you can go to. We share as much as
• 39:39
Speaker 4: we can, but it's just the way it is in
• 39:41
  Speaker 4: the summertime.
• 39:42
Speaker 2: Man, You got it.
• 39:42
Speaker 6: You got to kind of roll with the punches.
• 39:44
Speaker 4: Yeah, lots of stuff going on and you can follow
• 39:46
Speaker 4: the news of today. Of course, local news at the
• 39:47
Speaker 4: day at WCHS network dot com and over at our

Speaker 6: I think it's cool. All right, that's Jeff Jenkins from
• 39:59
Speaker 6: the WCCHS News. Let's do this. Let's go ahead and
• 40:01
Speaker 6: take a break now. We still.
• 40:03

• 42:14

• 42:17
Speaker 4: hosts in here, just mixing things up just a little bit,
• 42:19
Speaker 4: So stay tuned for that. That will be this week
• 42:22
Speaker 4: for Dave Allen as we we swap in for him.
• 42:28
Speaker 4: He deserves some time off, David. It's okay to give
• 42:29
Speaker 4: Dave a little bit of time off.
• 42:30
  Speaker 6: He deserves that.
• 42:31
Speaker 4: A couple of other things that are happening around the
• 42:34
Speaker 4: state right now. You're welcome to send in and give
• 42:37
Speaker 4: us a call. Three zer a four three four five
• 42:39
Speaker 4: fifty eight fifty eight three zero four three four five
• 42:41
Speaker 4: fifty eight fifty eight. You can text threes are a
• 42:42
Speaker 4: four non three five five zero zero eight. Let's see
• 42:46
Speaker 4: from the three zero four four three seven this isn't related.
• 42:52
Speaker 4: This is this is just a comment probably getting ready
• 42:54
Speaker 4: for talk line. Capital cost the state over two billion
• 42:56
Speaker 4: dollars when she let up Trump take our infrastructure funds
• 42:58
Speaker 4: that are allocated for our state and then from the
• 43:01
Speaker 4: same number of these kids taking over sound a little
• 43:03
Speaker 4: bit like ice agents taking over our cities. I mean,
• 43:09
Speaker 4: I understand where you're coming from on some of that,
• 43:10
Speaker 4: but again I don't know what these kids dispositions, or
• 43:14
Speaker 4: the parents or things like that are. But I mean,
• 43:15
Speaker 4: kids are going to be If we're talking eight to
• 43:17
Speaker 4: ten year old kids with with these water guns, it
• 43:20
Speaker 4: seems very silly in this day and age for us
• 43:23
Speaker 4: to do this, But kids yet do very silly things.
• 43:25
Speaker 4: So there has to be a responsibility for that somewhere,
• 43:28
Speaker 4: for either talking them down or for the community to
• 43:30
Speaker 4: be responsible for what's happening with kids ultimately that are playing.
• 43:35
Speaker 4: Just something I wanted to make folks aware of with it.
• 43:38
Speaker 4: Let's see from the six eight one four seven four,
• 43:40
Speaker 4: this is a response earlier talking a pretty strong response
• 43:44
Speaker 4: on folks that come into that they might see coming
• 43:47
Speaker 4: in the yard. This is a response to that. I'm
• 43:48
Speaker 4: a gen Exra two, and yes we played war as
• 43:50
Speaker 4: well cowboys and end and and so forth. But that's
• 43:52
Speaker 4: not the same as these packs going on and randily
• 43:54
Speaker 4: shooting at people in the streets, are shooting at cars
• 43:56
Speaker 4: that these kids are doing today. The problem is the
• 43:58
Speaker 4: entitlement these kids now feel that they can do whatever
• 44:01
Speaker 4: they want because nobody is going to do anything about it.
• 44:04
Speaker 4: I'm sure there is a little bit of that. I'm
• 44:05
Speaker 4: sure there's a little bit of that, But again, there
• 44:07
Speaker 4: were kids shooting pellet guns at cars when I was
• 44:09
Speaker 4: growing up. They got in trouble for it. Don't get
• 44:12
Speaker 4: me wrong, but kids misbehaving has been happening for a
• 44:15
Speaker 4: long time, even within this context. I knew many of
• 44:18
Speaker 4: my I was a good kid for the most part,
• 44:20
Speaker 4: although I did doing these things. But I had some
• 44:23
Speaker 4: friends that got into some trouble every once in a
• 44:25
Speaker 4: while for things like this. So these things do come up.
• 44:27
Speaker 4: But I understand that perspective, and believe me, with some
• 44:30
Speaker 4: of the traffic that I get around my house, my
• 44:34
Speaker 4: head's on this swivel all the time. I have security
• 44:36
Speaker 4: cameras out everywhere. I get where you're coming from on this.
• 44:39
Speaker 4: But also I see people that get on that neighborhood
• 44:42
Speaker 4: app and stuff and send red alerts up when there's
• 44:44
Speaker 4: a suspicious activity in the neighborhood. And then on my
• 44:48
Speaker 4: cameras and when I go out and look, it's literally
• 44:50
Speaker 4: kids playing. I've seen somebody take a picture of a
• 44:54
Speaker 4: child riding a bike, a child on a brand new bike,
• 44:57
Speaker 4: well dressed, riding in the middle of the street. But
• 45:00
Speaker 4: it was the middle of a side street, just like
• 45:02
Speaker 4: riding around in circles. And somebody, an adult, took a
• 45:06
Speaker 4: picture of this child and put it on one of
• 45:08
Speaker 4: these Facebook groups about your neighborhood watch saying who's kid
• 45:11
Speaker 4: it is this, Come and get your kid. I'm sorry, man,
• 45:13
Speaker 4: that's like a ten year old kid riding his bike.
• 45:16
Speaker 4: Why are we putting pictures of kids on the internet.
• 45:20
Speaker 4: I mean, we have to have a little common sense
• 45:21
Speaker 4: when it comes to this stuff. I get you got
• 45:23
Speaker 4: to protect what's yours, and you got to make sure
• 45:25
Speaker 4: that all that's good. But man, when you got a
• 45:27
Speaker 4: kid that's just simply playing outside, isn't that what we're
• 45:29
Speaker 4: telling them to do? Get off, get off the computer,
• 45:31
Speaker 4: go outside and play. I'm not talking about necessiarily these
• 45:34
Speaker 4: kids with the with the water splatters or whatever, because
• 45:36
Speaker 4: it sounds like that that they might be putting themselves
• 45:40
Speaker 4: in situations where where you know that you're kind of
• 45:44
Speaker 4: walking the line a little bit. You got a kid
• 45:45
Speaker 4: that's just riding a bike around in your neighborhood, a
• 45:47
Speaker 4: kid that's just walking I see this all the time
• 45:49
Speaker 4: on these Facebook groups or these neighborhood aps, where people
• 45:52
Speaker 4: absolutely lose their mind over just people. Yes, there's other
• 45:55
Speaker 4: problems too, I know there is, But when there's a
• 45:58
Speaker 4: kid just riding a bike and riding around in circles
• 46:01
Speaker 4: and just like killing Tom Man, That's all I did
• 46:03
Speaker 4: when I was like nine years old on a bike.
• 46:07
Speaker 4: I mean that was my main that was my main
• 46:09
Speaker 4: way to pass time. So I mean, there's there's gotta
• 46:12
  Speaker 4: be a there's got to be a line that we're
• 46:14
Speaker 4: looking at here. We don't want an accident to happen
• 46:17
Speaker 4: with a kid that's just mining his own business, or
• 46:19
Speaker 4: to send somebody after a kid who's just mining his
• 46:22
Speaker 4: own business. We've seen too much of this stuff, not
• 46:24
Speaker 4: saying that that's every case that's going on with the
• 46:26
Speaker 4: stuff we heard this weekend. That could be a problem,
• 46:28
Speaker 4: and I understand that, but broadly speaking, I see this
• 46:31
Speaker 4: with all kinds of minor, little fractions. This kid was
• 46:35
Speaker 4: in my yard. I mean sometimes I saw something one
• 46:38
Speaker 4: time where somebody was complaining and the picture that they
• 46:40
Speaker 4: shared online was obviously a kid that was checking his
• 46:42
Speaker 4: tire pressure or something on his tire. And it was
• 46:44
Speaker 4: obviously a kid. He wasn't dressed bad, he was dressed fine.
• 46:47
Speaker 4: He was just on a bike and he put his
• 46:49
Speaker 4: bike on the side of the road and it looked
• 46:51
Speaker 4: like he was checking his tire or his chain on something.
• 46:53
Speaker 4: What's this kid doing in my yard? It looks like
• 46:55
Speaker 4: he's checking the chain on his tire, man, which isn't
• 46:58
Speaker 4: a crime. I mean, he's only your offer. You tell
• 47:00
Speaker 4: them to get off your property, if it's that big
• 47:02
Speaker 4: of a deal. I'm just we have to have some
• 47:05
Speaker 4: awareness about what's going on with these things, because if
• 47:07
Speaker 4: we want kids to be kids, we have to let
• 47:09
  Speaker 4: them be kids.
• 47:10
Speaker 6: You gotta let them.
• 47:10
Speaker 4: You got to let them do kid things and not
• 47:12
Speaker 4: get in trouble for doing kid things. Again, not necessarily
• 47:15
Speaker 4: it's water splat things, because that the optics of that
• 47:17
Speaker 4: are not good and you have to be careful of
• 47:19
Speaker 4: some of that stuff because you can put yourself in
• 47:21
Speaker 4: a dangerous situation. But when you start going down the
• 47:24
Speaker 4: line and looking at things that people are getting mad at,
• 47:27
Speaker 4: sometimes it's just relatively normal activity. And sometimes I think
• 47:31
Speaker 4: we're a little bit too engaged in our Facebook groups,
• 47:34
Speaker 4: too engaged in our neighborhood groups, to engage with taking
• 47:37
Speaker 4: security photos of children and putting them on line. I
• 47:40
Speaker 4: just think we're a little bit too far over those things.
• 47:42
Speaker 4: Sometimes you got to protect your what's yours. I don't
• 47:45
Speaker 4: have any problem with that, but just have a little
• 47:46
Speaker 4: bit of awareness of you know, maybe not every kid
• 47:49
Speaker 4: is a is a potential criminal, and sometimes kids are
• 47:52
Speaker 4: just going to be kids.
• 47:53
  Speaker 6: And and uh.
• 47:54
Speaker 4: Again not every time, but that's let's see, let's see
• 47:59
Speaker 4: excuse using it and bending over backwards.
• 48:01
  Speaker 6: Brother.
• 48:02
Speaker 4: You can think whatever you want to, but I see
• 48:03
Speaker 4: this happen all the time, where there's just a regular
• 48:05
Speaker 4: eight year old kid riding a bike and the neighborhood's
• 48:08
Speaker 4: about ready to go get him because all he's doing
• 48:10
Speaker 4: is riding a bike down an alley. And I'm just
• 48:11
Speaker 4: saying that that ain't right. DJ Meadows is joining me
• 48:14
Speaker 4: from talk line. Not everybody agrees with me on this,
• 48:16
Speaker 4: that that that these little snots out here they're out
• 48:19
Speaker 4: here playing need to be uh shown their place. But
• 48:21
Speaker 4: I just think we've got to let kids be kids
• 48:23
Speaker 4: in certain circumstan. What are they doing This thing in
• 48:26
Speaker 4: Charleston that happen is we have these kids that have
• 48:29
Speaker 4: the splat guns, the squirt guns, and so they're they're
• 48:31
Speaker 4: playing war basically, but they're playing urbanly, like on the street,
• 48:34
Speaker 4: and so they're running out with guns in the streets.
• 48:36
Speaker 4: Some of them are taking shots at cars, and so
• 48:38
Speaker 4: you're some cars are getting wet and things along those lines.
• 48:41
Speaker 6: So that I'm not.
• 48:42
Speaker 11: Saying car got wet, Oh my goodness.
• 48:43
Speaker 4: I'm not saying that's not a problem. Because optically, if
• 48:45
Speaker 4: you're somebody that's that's packing and you see somebody jump
• 48:48
Speaker 4: out in front of you with a gun or something,
• 48:49
Speaker 4: that could be a problem. I'm not saying that's not
• 48:51
Speaker 4: a problem. I'm saying that where this derives from. I
• 48:54
Speaker 4: see this all the time with people in my neighborhood
• 48:57
Speaker 4: who share pictures of just kids doing nothing, and they're
• 49:00
Speaker 4: posting a picture of like a fourteen year old kid
• 49:03
Speaker 4: not with their face covered or anything else, Like whose
• 49:05
Speaker 4: kid is this? Come get them and all they're doing
• 49:07
Speaker 4: is riding a bike in an alley or something. We
• 49:09
Speaker 4: can't be doing that if we want kids to be kids.
• 49:11
Speaker 7: No, I heard the thing changing the kids. I think
• 49:14
Speaker 7: you said it was a flat tire or it was
• 49:16
Speaker 7: his chain came off the bike or whatever. Come on, man,
• 49:19
Speaker 7: I've just seen them before. I've just you've got to
• 49:21
Speaker 7: protect yours. I'm not saying you can't.
• 49:23
Speaker 4: There's somebody that's super mad at me now because I
• 49:25
Speaker 4: think that we need to let let them be. Yeah,
• 49:28
Speaker 4: I'm just saying that I've seen it. I'm fifty two
• 49:31
Speaker 4: year olds. Me too, man, me too.
• 49:34
Speaker 7: Look, as a father of three, I can tell you
• 49:36
Speaker 7: as good as my kids are, and I think as
• 49:38
Speaker 7: good as your child is. Kids make mistakes, kids do things.
• 49:41
Speaker 7: Kids need grace as much as adults need grace. And
• 49:46
Speaker 7: think about it like this. If a kid's on your
• 49:47
Speaker 7: property and you want to go out have a moment with.
• 49:50
Speaker 11: Them, go out, help them change.
• 49:53
Speaker 7: Retire or change the chain, what's going on, and maybe
• 49:55
Speaker 7: have ripples in the pond right that, move forward, Engage,
• 49:58
Speaker 7: don't just do this Facebook thing and put somebody's kid
• 50:02
Speaker 7: on Facebook that they're and they're not doing anything. It'd
• 50:04
Speaker 7: be different if the kid was spray painting your house
• 50:06
Speaker 7: or messing up your linscaping or something. I mean, come on,
• 50:10
Speaker 7: these are kids, and you know, think of it this way,
• 50:13
Speaker 7: even if you're not a parent, think of it this way.
• 50:15
Speaker 11: That child. It's a chance to change that child's life.
• 50:18
Speaker 7: And because it takes a village coop, especially today, everything
• 50:21
Speaker 7: that kids can get into. And I heard you say this,
• 50:23
Speaker 7: and you're absolutely right. We want them more outside, we
• 50:25
Speaker 7: want them doing things, we want them away from the screens.
• 50:27
Speaker 7: We have to support that, right, I mean.
• 50:29
Speaker 4: So yea, sometimes if you have friends, maybe you have
• 50:32
Speaker 4: three or four and maybe you're on a three or
• 50:35
Speaker 4: four people on a bike. I'm not saying that you're
• 50:36
Speaker 4: carrying around the sport guns or whatever, but maybe they cut
• 50:39
Speaker 4: the corner off your property when they're going around the corner.
• 50:41
Speaker 6: Kids, will you know?
• 50:42
  Speaker 4: I mean, And and what I'm saying, don't take a
• 50:45
Speaker 4: picture of that fourteen year old kid and put it
• 50:47
Speaker 4: on the internet. There's a lot of dangerous people out
• 50:49
Speaker 4: there that are real interested in that fourteen year old kid.
• 50:52
Speaker 4: And that's way more dangerous than somebody cutting your part.
• 50:54
Speaker 7: Here's an idea. Go talk to their parents that too.
• 50:57
Speaker 7: I mean, you could go talk to their parents. I
• 50:58
Speaker 7: had to do that. We had kids coming down. We
• 51:00
Speaker 7: have a hill in our neighborhood. They're riding down the
• 51:02
Speaker 7: hill like warriors, way too fast, no helmet. They're gonna
• 51:08
Speaker 7: fall and they're gonna hurt. So you go have a
• 51:09
Speaker 7: talk with the parents and say, hey, it's none of
• 51:11
Speaker 7: my business, but that's all. You got it too. Yeah,
• 51:14
Speaker 7: it ain't hard. Yeah, it ain't hard be a human.
• 51:17
Speaker 6: What's coming up on the Big Show.
• 51:19
Speaker 7: So we're going to get into a governor making big
• 51:21
Speaker 7: announcements this morning about audits. We'll talk about that and
• 51:25
Speaker 7: get you the details and figure out what it means.
• 51:27

Speaker 6: Great show. I always look forward to it.
