- 1:35Speaker 1: I don't think nearly enough. That's a good point. I'd

- 2:09Speaker 2: It's you, Me's you.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Let's hear your synopsis for The Way Home episode four.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Sure, What's My Age Again?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Also a song from nineteen ninety nine from Blink one
- 2:19Speaker 1: eighty two?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Did you know that I did? Did you start saying it? Really?
- 2:24Speaker 2: The only thing? Canawine?
- 2:25Speaker 1: Was What's My Age Again?
- 2:26Speaker 2: No?
- 2:27Speaker 1: No, you're funny?
- 2:30Speaker 2: Okay?
- 2:31Speaker 1: So Alice double dates with her parents as teens. Kat's
- 2:34Speaker 1: first trip to the past springs a surprising discovery, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: Dell swallows her pride to ask for help.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 2:42Speaker 1: This episode is directed by Nimisha Mukerjee, who also directed
- 2:47Speaker 1: last week's episode three.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited? Is you hope we're gonna get for?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Episode five has not been put in IMDb as of today,
- 2:56Speaker 1: it's not revealed yet. No, no, no, okay, you're ready
- 3:01Speaker 1: to hop right in?
- 3:02Speaker 2: Die right in? Sure? Yeah? Go ahead.
- 3:07Speaker 1: This episode opens with Cat underwater and screaming. We see
- 3:10Speaker 1: the ferns pull her under. I'm not really sure in
- 3:14Speaker 1: this woman who she thinks is going to hear her
- 3:16Speaker 1: if she's screaming for Alice underwater, But nevertheless, the ferns
- 3:19Speaker 1: pull her under. I have to tell you that anytime
- 3:21Speaker 1: there's an underwater scene where someone's like getting caught, I
- 3:24Speaker 1: get a little panicky.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Short of breath.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Do Yeah, that's one of my most terrifying ways to die.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Oh okay. Cat's surfaces.
- 3:35Speaker 1: We hear a dog in the distance, we hear ukulele playing,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and Cat walks wet out of the woods and sees Alice.
- 3:43Speaker 1: She's relieved and then she sees herself that Alice is
- 3:47Speaker 1: playing guitar and young Cat joins and singing. They're strumming
- 3:52Speaker 1: along to Lfo's nineteen ninety nine hits Summer Girls, which
- 3:58Speaker 1: is real cute, very cute. Adult Cat is watching from afar,
- 4:04Speaker 1: slightly freaking out, not really quite sure what she's seen.
- 4:08Speaker 1: She knows it's her, but like, do you think at
- 4:11Speaker 1: this moment, like she's really realized that she's back in
- 4:13Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine. You know, Cat's kind of freaking out
- 4:16Speaker 1: about all of this. And while I know this is
- 4:18Speaker 1: a show about time travel and therefore I have to
- 4:21Speaker 1: suspend disbelief, I also really felt for the feeling Cat
- 4:25Speaker 1: must have been having in this moment, being confronted with
- 4:29Speaker 1: all of this, realizing what she's seeing. I'm not sure
- 4:33Speaker 1: if in this moment she's fully processed what's going on
- 4:37Speaker 1: right right? Also, I'm wondering she's standing there in wet
- 4:41Speaker 1: jeans and boots, and that has to be miserable, don't
- 4:44Speaker 1: you thinkseed the worst. I'd rather be standing there in
- 4:48Speaker 1: my underwear than in wet jeans and boots.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I agree.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Alis and Kat are talking about Nick and Brady. They're
- 4:56Speaker 1: talking about the boys, and Young Cat mentions that Brady's
- 5:01Speaker 1: going to be coming to town to visit. This is
- 5:04Speaker 1: a really cute scene between Alice and Kat.
- 5:06Speaker 2: They're super playful.
- 5:08Speaker 1: They're just having fun, jerking around, playing jokes on each other.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It was actually really nice, like it took me back
- 5:18Speaker 1: to a time where well, we didn't have cell phones
- 5:21Speaker 1: in our hands and you're just hanging out with your friends,
- 5:24Speaker 1: talking and having fun. I just thought it was a
- 5:27Speaker 1: really sweet moment. Also, we learn in this scene that
- 5:31Speaker 1: Kat is really wants to introduce Alice to Brady. Yes,
- 5:38Speaker 1: and at this moment, Alice is excited about that yes exactly.
- 5:41Speaker 1: What's interesting to me about the scene is that Kat
- 5:43Speaker 1: clearly remembers a conversation that she had with Dell because
- 5:46Speaker 1: she hounds the words along with Young Cat, and I
- 5:51Speaker 1: wonder if that's the moment where she's realizing what in
- 5:54Speaker 1: the world is happening. Alice says she needs to leave,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but she'll try to be here when Brady gets here.
- 6:00Speaker 1: And yet again I ask myself, does Kat know where
- 6:02Speaker 1: Alice is going or does she not wonder? And is
- 6:05Speaker 1: it not weird to Kat that she only has access
- 6:08Speaker 1: to Alice when Alice appears in her field. Yeah, Like
- 6:12Speaker 1: there's no phone number. Like we all we know that
- 6:14Speaker 1: Kat talks on the phone, right, she doesn't have Alice's
- 6:18Speaker 1: phone number.
- 6:19Speaker 2: She can't.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Like she's never been to her house. Alice clearly lives
- 6:23Speaker 1: within walking distance, and she's never wondered where it is.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Mm hmm. Yeah, this is again we have to suspend disbelief. Yes,
- 6:34Speaker 1: So Cat watches Alice dive back into the pond with ease.
- 6:37Speaker 1: This is the thing that Alice has done regularly now.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And one thing I notice is Cat appears to be
- 6:41Speaker 1: dry at this point, sitting in that field for a while.
- 6:44Speaker 1: But before Kat follows Alice back to the present day,
- 6:47Speaker 1: we hear giggling, and Kat follows the sound. She sees
- 6:51Speaker 1: a boy running through the woods, and Cat comes upon
- 6:54Speaker 1: her childhood home. She sees the boat and the house
- 6:58Speaker 1: and the gut punch of Jacob and Colton. Right, she's
- 7:02Speaker 1: she's watching from afar. And here a scene that literally
- 7:08Speaker 1: brought me to tears is she's watching Colton and Jacob
- 7:13Speaker 1: tossing the ball around in the front yard, and once
- 7:16Speaker 1: she realizes what she's seen, she drops to her knees
- 7:19Speaker 1: and is just so distraught, and I'm like, this was
- 7:24Speaker 1: such a good scene. Yes, Kyler Lee springs it in
- 7:29Speaker 1: this moment, totally, totally, it.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Was so good.
- 7:33Speaker 1: You know, there's she's like clapped both hands over her mouth,
- 7:36Speaker 1: like she's just like trying to keep the emotion inside
- 7:39Speaker 1: her body, both because she doesn't want to be found out,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but also her brother and her father are gone and
- 7:45Speaker 1: now here they are in front of her, and really good.
- 7:48Speaker 1: We get our opening title card and we jump back
- 7:51Speaker 1: to present day. Dell's in a field with the cow,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and this is the sweetest we've ever seen delbying with
- 7:56Speaker 1: this with this cow, ole miss and we find out
- 8:00Speaker 1: that she is due to be calving any day now.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And I feel like there's a lot of foreshadowing moments
- 8:06Speaker 1: in this episode, because look, you don't tell us that
- 8:09Speaker 1: a cow is about to have a calf if that's
- 8:10Speaker 1: not going to be a pivotal moment in this episode.
- 8:14Speaker 2: M interesting.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Right after that, Elliott and Alice are cleaning the boat
- 8:19Speaker 1: and they're talking, and Alice bags on Elliot quite a
- 8:23Speaker 1: bit if a weird definition of what school. Yeah, they
- 8:28Speaker 1: have a weird kind of friendship, don't you think so? Yes,
- 8:32Speaker 1: their dynamic is not student teacher, right, it's almost not
- 8:37Speaker 1: even like a teenager adult, right, It's like they're two
- 8:43Speaker 1: teenagers talking to each other. Alice asks Elliott about Brady
- 8:48Speaker 1: as a teen and Elliot seems kind of reluctant to
- 8:51Speaker 1: tell Alice anything about Brady. He doesn't want to, like
- 8:55Speaker 1: tell her what she's going to find in the past. Basically, Yeah,
- 8:59Speaker 1: he doesn't want a frontloader with that information. And we'll
- 9:01Speaker 1: find out later why not. But really quickly, you said
- 9:04Speaker 1: that they have a relationship that's not like adult teenager
- 9:08Speaker 1: and they know each other as much as peers as
- 9:13Speaker 1: they do as adult child. So that's a really interesting
- 9:16Speaker 1: dynamic that they have going.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Right.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Dell arrives and she's surprised at they're cleaning, and we
- 9:22Speaker 1: get the first mention of clean up this mess. We
- 9:26Speaker 1: find out that the house is a mess. Everything's a mess.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Alice is a mess. This will carry through. She's frustrated
- 9:33Speaker 1: with it. Yeah, she's complaining to Elliott about the lack
- 9:36Speaker 1: of help from Cat and Alice around the house. Yeah,
- 9:39Speaker 1: she to herself says, you're happy they're here in spite
- 9:41Speaker 1: of the mess they make. And she says, you know, Ellie,
- 9:44Speaker 1: you could come to dinner, but the kitchen is a mess,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and besides, Kat won't be here. Dell knows what's up
- 9:49Speaker 1: with Elliott's feelings about Cat, and her advice to him
- 9:52Speaker 1: is to play the long game, which is really really
- 9:56Speaker 1: interesting line, isn't it. Hmmm, what does Dell know about
- 10:00Speaker 1: the future. That's a good that's a very good point
- 10:03Speaker 1: that I did not consider. And also, Elliott has been
- 10:05Speaker 1: in love with Cat since he was fifteen years old,
- 10:07Speaker 1: so I would say he has played a very long
- 10:10Speaker 1: game at this point exactly. But it just raised my
- 10:14Speaker 1: piqued my interest here because I was like, what is
- 10:16Speaker 1: she What does she.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Mean by that?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Does she know something he doesn't. We're back to nineteen
- 10:24Speaker 1: ninety nine adult.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Cat this year.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Let me just stop for a second. My notes are crazy.
- 10:30Speaker 1: They're like ninety nine and I have to now write
- 10:33Speaker 1: adult Cat. This is not just teenage Cat in nineteen
- 10:36Speaker 1: ninety nine.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 10:37Speaker 1: She is watching the Landry farm from afar. She's she's
- 10:42Speaker 1: seen the family being happy and they're having dinner and
- 10:47Speaker 1: you know, kind of seeing all those things that Alice
- 10:49Speaker 1: had experienced in the last couple visits as well. It's
- 10:53Speaker 1: like what happened to that family? Like that was a
- 10:56Speaker 1: happy family. Yeah, Jacob has his polaroid and family is
- 11:00Speaker 1: as loving and lovely as ever. And we cut back
- 11:03Speaker 1: to present day. Dell isn't it outrageously messy kitchen? And
- 11:07Speaker 1: she's talking to Alice and tells her, look, tomorrow's gonna
- 11:09Speaker 1: be busy that we've got the cow. I'm not gonna
- 11:13Speaker 1: be around because there's a lobster social and Alice says,
- 11:16Speaker 1: is that like Coachella for crafts? Is that funny?
- 11:21Speaker 2: Actually?
- 11:21Speaker 1: I thought that was a really funny line until I
- 11:23Speaker 1: heard Dell come back later on and says, we might
- 11:26Speaker 1: just take you to Burning Man later, and I might
- 11:30Speaker 1: take you to Burning Man and rita burning Man would
- 11:33Speaker 1: be a sight to behold. It was just so funny.
- 11:36Speaker 1: It like close Allison that her grandma is not.
- 11:40Speaker 2: An idiot, you know what I mean?
- 11:43Speaker 1: She is with it?
- 11:44Speaker 2: Sure?
- 11:44Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, that was that was really funny. And side note,
- 11:48Speaker 1: a lobster social sounds amazing. You're in a heartbeat, right,
- 11:53Speaker 1: You know how I talk about when we review our
- 11:56Speaker 1: Hallmark movies during Christmas tire, how I want to go
- 11:58Speaker 1: to a Christmas market, yes, or some sort of fall festival. Well,
- 12:03Speaker 1: a lobster social sounds just as amazing. Give me all
- 12:06Speaker 1: the lobster and lemonade. I would be there, I would
- 12:08Speaker 1: be running it.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I love it.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Yes. We cut back to nineteen nighty nine and dinner
- 12:12Speaker 1: is still happening and Cat starts to back away, but
- 12:15Speaker 1: she knocks something over and Colton hears her. I was
- 12:19Speaker 1: wondering how Colton would react, but he reacts very kindly,
- 12:22Speaker 1: asks if she's okay, does she need any help? And
- 12:24Speaker 1: Kat says she shouldn't be here and she runs away
- 12:27Speaker 1: in tears. And I have to wonder does this family
- 12:30Speaker 1: wonder about the people who keep appearing at their home? Right?
- 12:33Speaker 2: Interesting?
- 12:35Speaker 1: I was gonna say, he was so kind, ma'am.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Do you need anything? Yeah, ma'am can I help you?
- 12:40Speaker 1: I was like, Oh God, you're wonderful. Back in present day,
- 12:45Speaker 1: Kat arrives home. She's wet, she's crying, she's reminiscing about
- 12:48Speaker 1: what she's she's just witnessed.
- 12:52Speaker 2: And is that it? Is that all that happens?
- 12:55Speaker 1: Yeah? And then we cut to the next morning. Alice
- 12:58Speaker 1: says she's off to meet friends. Alane asks Dell if
- 13:01Speaker 1: she's seen her mom, and Dell points to Cat in
- 13:03Speaker 1: a field, and this is the scene we saw in
- 13:05Speaker 1: the preview of this episode of Kat looking at the
- 13:08Speaker 1: polaroid in the field, trying to make sense of what
- 13:11Speaker 1: has happened to her in the past several hours. I
- 13:13Speaker 1: was really curious how Kat was going to play this
- 13:16Speaker 1: with Alice. And Alice approaches Kat, and Kat, I think,
- 13:19Speaker 1: is realizing what Alice has been going through for the
- 13:23Speaker 1: past couple of weeks, and she says, I love you
- 13:26Speaker 1: and let's spend the day together. May tell me, Yeah,
- 13:31Speaker 1: Dell wants Kat get going. You got to where you've
- 13:34Speaker 1: got a job to do, You've got an interview to do,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and Kat kind of wants to blow that off and
- 13:38Speaker 1: spend the day with Alice. I think totally warranted. Right,
- 13:44Speaker 1: you find out that your daughter has been visiting you
- 13:46Speaker 1: in the past, if I want to connect and see
- 13:49Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 13:52Speaker 1: So next we're at the Lobster Social, Monica and Kat
- 13:56Speaker 1: are talking. Cat puts off her interview that she has
- 14:00Speaker 1: to do with Monica, but she wants to spend time
- 14:02Speaker 1: with Alice, and it's just they're talking here a lot.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Alice alludes to having friends because their conversation is like,
- 14:11Speaker 1: you know, is Alice doing well in Port Haven? Does
- 14:16Speaker 1: she have friends? And Alice is like, yeah, I have
- 14:19Speaker 1: a really good friend. And I'm gonna have to guess
- 14:21Speaker 1: that she's talking about young Cat, right, I assume so
- 14:24Speaker 1: also right? So Elliott approaches and Kat's just rambling on
- 14:29Speaker 1: about like the night that she has, and Alice goes
- 14:32Speaker 1: off to get lemonade, but she bounces like like.
- 14:36Speaker 2: The kid just leaves.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm just gonna run back to ninety nine.
- 14:40Speaker 2: I'll be back in a second.
- 14:42Speaker 1: So your question about is Alice talking about young Cat?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Alice says she doesn't know how much time she has
- 14:47Speaker 1: with this friend, which I think is a good clue
- 14:49Speaker 1: that's who she's talking about.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yes, And this is.
- 14:52Speaker 1: The point at which Elliott joins them at Lobster Fest.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I know it's the lobster social and Cat kind of
- 14:58Speaker 1: vague books about what's happening to her has happened to her.
- 15:01Speaker 2: She at this point doesn't know that Elliott knows, and.
- 15:05Speaker 1: She's so excited about her connection with Alice. And as
- 15:07Speaker 1: you said, she runs around and Alice has a bounced
- 15:10Speaker 1: a by best friend. We see Alice running off, but
- 15:12Speaker 1: she sees Spencer in the park. They stop and talk
- 15:15Speaker 1: and Alice apologizes for flaking on his birthday, and they
- 15:19Speaker 1: talk a little bit about like where they come from
- 15:23Speaker 1: or what they're into, basically what Alice is into, like
- 15:26Speaker 1: what kind of life she had before she came to
- 15:28Speaker 1: port Haven. M h. And again I ask, where's Zoe?
- 15:33Speaker 2: Good question, where's friend Zoe?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Now this is interesting because Spencer says port Haven must
- 15:39Speaker 1: have seemed lame compared to Minneapolis and the mall of America,
- 15:42Speaker 1: which I think is hilarious that that's their like, you know,
- 15:45Speaker 1: oh big city, that's gonna be a dig though, don't
- 15:49Speaker 1: you think so? I actually don't think so. But it's
- 15:52Speaker 1: interesting compared to what we find out later about other
- 15:57Speaker 1: characters that Spencer is worried about port Haven not seeming
- 16:01Speaker 1: cool in the eyes of like a big city girl,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and Alice is not bothered by that. She likes it
- 16:07Speaker 1: in port Haven. Right.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Well, we see later about Brady mm hmm.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Okay, Dell is setting up her tables at the Lobster Social.
- 16:20Speaker 1: What is she setting these tables up for anyway? Like
- 16:22Speaker 1: a great question. There's a lot of talk about the
- 16:24Speaker 1: tables and set up. I never see her actually doing
- 16:26Speaker 1: anything there, I know exactly. And then so Elliott comes
- 16:29Speaker 1: up and he asks the help and Dale snaps at
- 16:32Speaker 1: him and I'm like, look, lady, he is like the
- 16:35Speaker 1: only one helping you out, Like stop trying to do
- 16:39Speaker 1: everything on your own. And then we have the return
- 16:42Speaker 1: of Rita, who is I guess she's like collecting lobster
- 16:47Speaker 1: shells from the people who are eating them. But I
- 16:51Speaker 1: don't think they're finished lobster shells because one of the
- 16:55Speaker 1: lobsters she takes from a woman who's like walking to
- 16:57Speaker 1: a table. She's like, they're not going to eat it?
- 17:00Speaker 2: What?
- 17:01Speaker 1: I Yeah, this was weird to me. But at the
- 17:04Speaker 1: end there she says she's gonna use her bists, which
- 17:06Speaker 1: I don't I've never made lobster bist before. But I
- 17:10Speaker 1: assuming you use like the carcass to but I don't know.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I have no lover carcases.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Carkye, do you need to make lobster back?
- 17:19Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 17:20Speaker 1: This scene was totally lost on me. Yes, but we
- 17:25Speaker 1: do find out that Dell and Rita kind of make up.
- 17:28Speaker 1: They make nice and Dell tells her to knock it off.
- 17:30Speaker 1: But we do find out that Dell decided that she
- 17:33Speaker 1: is not going to sell the boat, so and.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Gives her it.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Gives her a nice dig about like, oh, I guess
- 17:38Speaker 1: you can't take your cut from me. Yeah, no commission
- 17:40Speaker 1: from that one. So I'm wondering if these two have
- 17:43Speaker 1: been friends for a long time, and you know, when
- 17:45Speaker 1: you have a long time friendship and you like ebbs
- 17:48Speaker 1: and flows, you know what I mean?
- 17:50Speaker 2: They make it Yeah, yep, exactly.
- 17:53Speaker 1: We cut to Cat interviewing Monica about the reason behind
- 17:56Speaker 1: the season. She talks about why they have the lobster
- 17:59Speaker 1: social showcase the local cuisine outside of the tourist season.
- 18:03Speaker 1: We Monica gets a text from Spencer. He wants to
- 18:06Speaker 1: get out of his lobster social shift to hang out
- 18:09Speaker 1: with his friends, and turns out that friend group includes Alice,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and Monica asks if Kat knows where Alice went, and
- 18:16Speaker 1: Cat sure does know where Alice went the other night,
- 18:18Speaker 1: but Monica says Spencer and his friends will be will
- 18:21Speaker 1: be a good influence on her. Right next time, we
- 18:24Speaker 1: see Kat thrown back drinks. She runs into doctor Andy
- 18:29Speaker 1: and they flirt and they talk and she ribs him
- 18:31Speaker 1: for not calling her, but he explained, you know that
- 18:35Speaker 1: it's a busy birthing season for him, and she like
- 18:41Speaker 1: rambles on. Like in this episode, Kat rambles on quite
- 18:45Speaker 1: a bit with everybody, and then all of a sudden
- 18:48Speaker 1: they kiss. Yes, now, I wanted to say about this.
- 18:52Speaker 1: He says, it's birthing season, and she goes, that's a
- 18:54Speaker 1: funny thing to call it. You don't follow up on that,
- 18:57Speaker 1: you don't, Well, this again is another foreshotting woman. I
- 18:59Speaker 1: knew in that moment that he was a veterinarian, was
- 19:02Speaker 1: going to be helping with this cow. I knew exactly
- 19:04Speaker 1: what was happening.
- 19:05Speaker 2: But he says.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Birthing season, and you don't. There's not a follow up question. Well,
- 19:10Speaker 1: homegirl grew up on a farm. She wouldn't know what
- 19:13Speaker 1: that meant. Yeah, right, they had cows. We find out
- 19:17Speaker 1: later exactly. I mean, that's just really for the audience,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I think at this point, yes, yes, And prior to
- 19:25Speaker 1: the kiss, I mean, oh, never mind, they kiss, Kat
- 19:27Speaker 1: freaks out full word vomit from her, you know what
- 19:31Speaker 1: I mean, And she's like, all right, now, I'm good,
- 19:32Speaker 1: and then they make out again, make out, they kiss again.
- 19:36Speaker 1: They have a nice waterfront moment. We cut to the
- 19:39Speaker 1: next day. Dell is on the porch. It's the next morning,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and she calls Kat, the makeout queen of the Lobster
- 19:45Speaker 1: Social and Cat hope she doesn't run into doctor Andy again,
- 19:48Speaker 1: which what.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Why You're done?
- 19:51Speaker 1: You're good, that's all you needed. No, no, No, she's
- 19:54Speaker 1: embarrassed because she had lots of drink and then she
- 19:56Speaker 1: like made out with this dude before they even actually
- 19:58Speaker 1: went on a proper day.
- 20:00Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I mean, you're an adult and un let's just yes
- 20:04Speaker 1: with your life, right, but there's still some sort of
- 20:07Speaker 1: like embarrassment about it, I guess, right, Well, not technically
- 20:11Speaker 1: divorced yet either, Yes, but her ex husband has.
- 20:17Speaker 2: You know.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Delle says it's going to be hard to avoid him
- 20:18Speaker 1: in a small town. But Dell does not tell Cat
- 20:20Speaker 1: what she knows about doctor Andy at this moment. And
- 20:23Speaker 1: she just asked Kat to go pick up those tables
- 20:25Speaker 1: that we have no idea what they were used for.
- 20:27Speaker 1: From the points. Next, we see Brady and Alice are
- 20:31Speaker 1: on the phone together and Brady's.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Still in his office in Minneapolis.
- 20:35Speaker 1: That's right, I have Brady is in his office where
- 20:37Speaker 1: he apparently lives. He encourages Alice to go easy on
- 20:41Speaker 1: Cat because you know, Alice doesn't understand why adult Cat
- 20:46Speaker 1: is so different from young Cat basically right. And she
- 20:50Speaker 1: starts asking a bunch of questions about Brady, like what
- 20:53Speaker 1: were you like as a teenager? What was it like
- 20:55Speaker 1: here when you visited? And we hear Brady say, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 1: I am What did he say, like, I'm a.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Lot like I am?
- 21:02Speaker 1: Now? Yeah? He says I was the same, and Alice says, well,
- 21:05Speaker 1: mom has totally changed, right exactly. We cut to Dell
- 21:09Speaker 1: and Cat talking about Young Kat's friend Alice from nineteen
- 21:14Speaker 1: ninety nine and adult Cat asking if Della remembers her,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and Dell does not have a memory of her.
- 21:19Speaker 2: She says she had more.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Going on in that time period that's taken up her
- 21:23Speaker 1: brain space and she does not remember this daughter. This
- 21:26Speaker 1: was a weird scene to me because it kind of
- 21:30Speaker 1: comes out of nowhere, right, There's no like lead up
- 21:33Speaker 1: to it or anything like that. It's just like they're
- 21:35Speaker 1: walking and they're talking about this Alice from nineteen ninety nine.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I just thought it was an odd scene here. I
- 21:45Speaker 1: also think, given how significant Alice is in Cat's life
- 21:49Speaker 1: at this time, it's surprising to me that Dell has
- 21:52Speaker 1: no memory of her. Yeah, but you know, like Delle
- 21:57Speaker 1: also goes through like and she mentioned she goes through
- 21:59Speaker 1: a lot of trauma during that time, and you know,
- 22:01Speaker 1: just like blackout, like you know, block out all these
- 22:05Speaker 1: significant pieces of time and your memory to for survival,
- 22:09Speaker 1: you know. And we do have earlier conversations in this
- 22:12Speaker 1: show about memories, you know, not being exact snapshots of
- 22:16Speaker 1: the way life was at the time. So, yeah, Adele
- 22:20Speaker 1: and Kat walk into the barn with the cow and shocker.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Doctor Andy is there and Kat says, you're a bit
- 22:25Speaker 1: I thought you were a real doctor, And that's a
- 22:27Speaker 1: super awkward moment. But one thing I noticed in the
- 22:29Speaker 1: summit is Andy's cell phone ring is a cow bell.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Oh I didn't notice that.
- 22:34Speaker 1: And Dell clearly enjoys this interaction. She enjoys Kat running
- 22:38Speaker 1: into doctor Andy the morning after their waterfront drunken makeout.
- 22:42Speaker 1: She enjoys the fact that Kat kind of made a
- 22:44Speaker 1: fool of herself not realizing that Andy was a veterinarian.
- 22:47Speaker 1: She just enjoys all of it, and Kat abeils it's
- 22:50Speaker 1: so funny because Kat says to her, like, you enjoyed that, and.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Andy mcdalat this. It made me laugh out last.
- 22:58Speaker 1: She was like, I didn't hate it, it just it
- 23:01Speaker 1: was so sunny, It was so funny. We cut back
- 23:04Speaker 1: to nineteen ninety nine and Cat runs into Elliott in
- 23:07Speaker 1: the barn and asks if Brady's here yet, and she
- 23:10Speaker 1: drops the bomb on the poor Elliott that Brady's her dad.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And you just watch Elliott processing this information in real
- 23:17Speaker 1: time that his chances with Kat have basically been blown
- 23:21Speaker 1: out of the water.
- 23:22Speaker 2: M hm.
- 23:23Speaker 1: He says, yeah, I've met Brady and he's back at
- 23:25Speaker 1: the hotel getting ready for his date, and Alice wants
- 23:28Speaker 1: to spile their date and Elliott does not want to
- 23:30Speaker 1: do that.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Duh.
- 23:32Speaker 1: The fact that Alice has not picked up on Elliott's
- 23:34Speaker 1: feelings for Cat, she's just so in her own head.
- 23:37Speaker 1: She's so like a self absorbed fifteen year old in
- 23:39Speaker 1: this moment, she cannot think beyond her own experience here.
- 23:44Speaker 1: And then on our way out the door, she throws
- 23:45Speaker 1: it back and clothes at Elliot and Yell's laundry day. Yeah, her,
- 23:49Speaker 1: her clothes did look better in this episode. Really, Yeah,
- 23:52Speaker 1: Elliott's piggy better stuff up. Yeah, we're still getting these
- 23:54Speaker 1: clothes for us for her, you know. So we cut
- 23:59Speaker 1: to Kat and Alice in Kat's bedroom and they're talking
- 24:04Speaker 1: about Brady and Kat wants them to double day and
- 24:08Speaker 1: Alice is freaking out because she does not want Kat
- 24:11Speaker 1: to call Nick and you know, typical fifteen year old
- 24:14Speaker 1: teenage girls stuff. I think. And in the background playing
- 24:19Speaker 1: is a song by David Gray called This Year's Love,
- 24:23Speaker 1: which came out in nineteen ninety nine.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I love the song, we do love.
- 24:28Speaker 1: It evokes weird feelings for me. I don't know what
- 24:31Speaker 1: it is, but it's a great song. I'm like, whoever
- 24:35Speaker 1: is doing the soundtrack composing the music for the not
- 24:39Speaker 1: composing the music, selecting the music for.
- 24:42Speaker 2: This show curating?
- 24:44Speaker 1: So good? I agree, so good. We jump back to
- 24:48Speaker 1: present day. Dell is unloading the tables from the back
- 24:50Speaker 1: of the truck and we hear well miss mooing, and
- 24:54Speaker 1: Dell finds her I have written in distress question mark.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I don't know what Cowley looks like, but she calls
- 25:01Speaker 1: doctor Stafford and she gets his voicemail and Dyll's freaked out,
- 25:06Speaker 1: and we cut back to nineteen eighty nine. Yeah, they're
- 25:09Speaker 1: at the point, which is really kind of funny. This
- 25:11Speaker 1: is the first time I've ever seen the point back
- 25:13Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety nine, where it's the interior is different.
- 25:17Speaker 1: They're there, they meet Nick and they make an Arrowsmith reference,
- 25:22Speaker 1: which is really funny because last episode we hadn't The
- 25:26Speaker 1: name of the episode was after an Aerosmith song. Yeah,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and the references as in last episode are not lining
- 25:35Speaker 1: up with the title of the episode.
- 25:36Speaker 2: They're in right, good call.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Brady walks in and Cat introduces Nick and Alice, and
- 25:43Speaker 1: Alice's first impression of Brady is that he kind of sucks. Yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 1: Young Brady's kind of a jerk. Yeah, totally, and Alice
- 25:52Speaker 1: is real disappointed, and we see adult Cat watching.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Through the windows. Great edit.
- 25:58Speaker 1: To me, I was like, honestly, I should have expected it,
- 26:01Speaker 1: but I was caught by surprise in that moment when
- 26:03Speaker 1: they pull back and you see her standing there. Oh really,
- 26:07Speaker 1: I mean I like that she's seen it unfold because
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know, Alice is not going to return and can't.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I mean, they're not going to talk about it when
- 26:17Speaker 1: Alice returns from ninety nine, so like, Cat's got to
- 26:20Speaker 1: see it for ourselves, right. We cut back to present day.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Adella is continuing to freak out in the bar and
- 26:25Speaker 1: she's calling Kat and Elliott comes rushing into the barn,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and of course, adding to the drama, it is a
- 26:30Speaker 1: thunderstorm outside. Yeah, we're back in nineteen ninety nine at
- 26:35Speaker 1: the point and the server there is ordering drinks. They
- 26:39Speaker 1: order two diet Cokes. One Virgin Cola is a house white. Now, okay,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I have so much commentary here. First of all, it's
- 26:47Speaker 1: two diant cokes fine Virgin Cola was I was like,
- 26:51Speaker 1: was there actually a Virgin brand cola at the time?
- 26:54Speaker 2: That's what I was looking at.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yesh. It had launched in nineteen ninety four, Virgin Cola
- 26:59Speaker 1: by Richard Branson. Yes, I don't really remember this drink
- 27:04Speaker 1: being on the market. Was it in Canada? Maybe you
- 27:09Speaker 1: know that the drinks market is so oversaturated. I think
- 27:12Speaker 1: it would be easy to miss a drink launch pre
- 27:16Speaker 1: social media.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it was in the market for fourteen years. It
- 27:20Speaker 1: was discontinued in two thousand and nine. That's brand new information.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I don't think I ever had a Virgin Cola ever.
- 27:29Speaker 1: I wonder if they serve that on his on his
- 27:31Speaker 1: branded flights to Virgin Those were nice airplanes.
- 27:35Speaker 2: They were nice airplanes. And then what teenager orders a
- 27:40Speaker 2: white wine?
- 27:42Speaker 1: I wonder, dude, you are fifteen years old. You think
- 27:45Speaker 1: you're gonna get away with this a house white? What
- 27:48Speaker 1: a jackass? Oh so wine beer? This is? There's so
- 27:53Speaker 1: much happening here, so yes, the waiter shoots him down,
- 27:56Speaker 1: recommends as Shirley Temple, which I just love. Like him
- 28:00Speaker 1: in his place, right Brady orders a coke and he goes,
- 28:03Speaker 1: I always get away with this, but I should have
- 28:04Speaker 1: known better than to expect the same in the sticks
- 28:06Speaker 1: and I hate young Brady so much right now, me
- 28:09Speaker 1: too totally. And Alice Rappid fires questions at young Brady
- 28:13Speaker 1: and this man this seems solidifying him as the like
- 28:17Speaker 1: he's gonna have to work hard to get out of
- 28:19Speaker 1: this place in my brain. Oh, my parents didn't want
- 28:21Speaker 1: me to go to Main Prep. They wanted me to
- 28:23Speaker 1: go to Harvard Westlake. But Callieugh, nobody said with Cali,
- 28:28Speaker 1: nobody except people who didn't live here. Yeah, is so pretentious,
- 28:32Speaker 1: so fake, and he wants to stay grounded, clearly ordering
- 28:35Speaker 1: a house white in a diner as a fifteen year old.
- 28:39Speaker 1: But here he is, he's got a bulletproof five year plan.
- 28:43Speaker 1: And what's Brady's plan. It's nepotisms. Yeah, nepo baby and
- 28:49Speaker 1: Nicko nemb five year plan. And let me just tell
- 28:51Speaker 1: you right now.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I love Nick so much.
- 28:55Speaker 1: There's so many great moments coming. Where's future Nick at
- 29:00Speaker 1: so do shee? I just cannot stand him at all.
- 29:04Speaker 1: And we see adult cat watching through the window smile
- 29:08Speaker 1: memorye Like how great this date was. That's what's so
- 29:12Speaker 1: interesting in these moments is that she doesn't see what
- 29:15Speaker 1: Alice is seeing. She just sees the young love she
- 29:19Speaker 1: was experiencing right exactly. But you know, obviously she can't
- 29:23Speaker 1: hear what's being said from outside.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Yes, so maybe as.
- 29:27Speaker 1: An adult she would hear that and be like what,
- 29:30Speaker 1: But you know, it's all good memories for her. We
- 29:32Speaker 1: cut back to present day and Elliott is attempting to
- 29:35Speaker 1: birth a calf who is breach and it is not
- 29:39Speaker 1: going well.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I wrote cowbirthing problems. The scene is too too
- 29:45Speaker 2: graphic for me. I just can't can't with this scene.
- 29:49Speaker 1: This is a girl who grew up in the southern
- 29:51Speaker 1: California suburbs has no idea about birthing cows. Yeah, we're
- 29:56Speaker 1: back in nineteen ninety nine, and they're headed to the
- 29:58Speaker 1: movie theater and you see on the Marque it's the
- 30:01Speaker 1: blair Witch Project. You know what's funny is I did
- 30:05Speaker 1: not see the Marquis because I was rapid firing taking notes,
- 30:08Speaker 1: and there's a couple hints at what movie it's gonna be,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and I wrote down like, are they suggesting it's gonna
- 30:15Speaker 1: be the blair Witch Project? Which apparently was. It was.
- 30:18Speaker 1: It's not the reach that I thought it was, okay,
- 30:21Speaker 1: pro to myself. When Elliott says like, oh, it's handheld,
- 30:24Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, it must be the blair Witch Project. Anyway,
- 30:26Speaker 1: side note, we did see that movie in the movie theater,
- 30:28Speaker 1: and I did get sick. So I get very nauseous
- 30:32Speaker 1: by like watching stuff like that.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I've never seen that movie. No, it's terrible. It's a
- 30:37Speaker 2: terrible movie.
- 30:38Speaker 1: So we meet Nick's moms, which I wrote down is
- 30:42Speaker 1: pretty progressive for nineteen ninety nine. No, well, okay, the
- 30:47Speaker 1: question is is it progressive for Nick to have two
- 30:49Speaker 1: moms in nineteen ninety nine, because this is not a
- 30:51Speaker 1: show being created at nineteen ninety nine, right, So I
- 30:54Speaker 1: think if this, the question is is it progressive for
- 30:58Speaker 1: him to have had two moms in nineteen No, the
- 31:01Speaker 1: answer is no, and this show is being created in
- 31:03Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, so I just think it's a nice
- 31:05Speaker 1: little bit of representation. Yes. And Alice is clearly not
- 31:12Speaker 1: into Cat and Brady. She's so over them. And Nick's
- 31:14Speaker 1: just the coolest dude. He's like, do you want to bail?
- 31:16Speaker 1: I'll go with you or you can go alone, but
- 31:19Speaker 1: more fun to run away to gather hm. And what's
- 31:23Speaker 1: funny in this scene is they all head into the
- 31:24Speaker 1: movie theater. We see Cat just like merge right into
- 31:26Speaker 1: the crowd. Alice is not gonna see her. She doesn't
- 31:31Speaker 1: have a ticket, right, I don't know, sneak on in, right.
- 31:36Speaker 1: So they are purchasing snacks at the counter and Elliott's
- 31:41Speaker 1: you know, selling popcorn or whatever, and Brady tries to
- 31:44Speaker 1: use his mom's credit card and Elliott denies him. Nick
- 31:48Speaker 1: comes in and saves the day and says, you know,
- 31:49Speaker 1: my mom's owned the theater, so you know, just it's
- 31:52Speaker 1: on the house, which is all good. But then like
- 31:56Speaker 1: Brady turns around and bags on Elliott. I'm like, this, ugh,
- 32:02Speaker 1: what a piece? The worst?
- 32:04Speaker 2: You see? Nick? The worst?
- 32:06Speaker 1: And Nick consoles Elliott and I was like, what nice. Okay,
- 32:08Speaker 1: that's a good friendship. So where is Nick?
- 32:12Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And I'm so spun out about this Nick situation because
- 32:16Speaker 1: obviously Alice and Nick cannot be together in present day,
- 32:19Speaker 1: so this is a real kind of like high low
- 32:23Speaker 1: moment for me. But when he checks in you cool
- 32:26Speaker 1: dude with Elliott and thanks him for covering his ship.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I also wrote, I just want to say that if
- 32:31Speaker 1: one of my kids wanted to date a dude like Nick, I'm.
- 32:33Speaker 2: All for it.
- 32:34Speaker 1: So far right, so far, so far. Present day, we're
- 32:38Speaker 1: back to scary calf birthing scene. Del needs help, Elliott
- 32:42Speaker 1: has to region and grab a hoof, and once again
- 32:45Speaker 1: things are still not going well. Yeah, I wrote this
- 32:49Speaker 1: scene is too long and too graphic, Like I just
- 32:52Speaker 1: I'm like, what is the point here?
- 32:54Speaker 2: What is I mean?
- 32:55Speaker 1: We get to it eventually, but maybe too too much,
- 33:00Speaker 1: too much for me, okay say that. Back to nineteen
- 33:03Speaker 1: ninety nine, Kat is watching Young Cat and Brady kiss
- 33:06Speaker 1: at the movie theater and Alice goes and talks to
- 33:10Speaker 1: Elliott out in the lobby and she tells Elliott that,
- 33:13Speaker 1: you know, Brady is a jerk. And now we have
- 33:16Speaker 1: like adult cat sneaking behind and she can hear their conversation,
- 33:21Speaker 1: and this is where Kat learns that Elliott knows about
- 33:23Speaker 1: the time travel. Yes, and to Elliott's credit, he does
- 33:28Speaker 1: talk Alice through this moment. He kind of takes a
- 33:31Speaker 1: good neutral position and even though he does not like
- 33:36Speaker 1: Brady either. Kat overhears all of this. Right back to
- 33:40Speaker 1: present day. Ole miss is struggling, but Elliott births a calf.
- 33:45Speaker 1: And I cried a little bit in this moment.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So you did not look, did you growth.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Of anything on TV? It was an emotional moment and
- 33:54Speaker 1: Delle has clearly put more than her hopes for just
- 33:57Speaker 1: this cow Missy into this moment. This means more to
- 34:01Speaker 1: her than just a calf. Of course, we have an
- 34:04Speaker 1: adult cat back in present day and she comes running
- 34:08Speaker 1: to the bar to confront Elliott about keeping this big
- 34:11Speaker 1: time travel secret. And Elliott's surprised that Kat can travel
- 34:15Speaker 1: through the pond because this is the first time that
- 34:18Speaker 1: he realizes that somebody other than Alice can.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Move through time through the pond. Mm hmmm, and so Elliott,
- 34:27Speaker 2: you know.
- 34:28Speaker 1: They squabble a little bit here, and Elliott calls out
- 34:30Speaker 1: Kat for not taking care of her family, especially Dell,
- 34:33Speaker 1: because she's making Delle's life harder. Yeah, this place is
- 34:37Speaker 1: falling apart and you're not helping. You know. Elliott's been
- 34:41Speaker 1: stuck in the middle in two timelines here, and he
- 34:43Speaker 1: is being a good friend to Alice and what spitball
- 34:48Speaker 1: here for me? He's gonna go and tell Kat by
- 34:51Speaker 1: the way, your daughter's traveling through time by way of
- 34:54Speaker 1: a pond, and that.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Was going to go.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Well, there was no other way to do this.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Exactly like what is he supposed to be? She would
- 35:03Speaker 2: think he's crazy.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Yes, no, not gonna happen, and Cat quickly comes to
- 35:08Speaker 1: that realization herself. Delle calls them into the bar and
- 35:11Speaker 1: we have a cute newborn calf, and we find out
- 35:13Speaker 1: what many of us suspected all along is that Colton
- 35:17Speaker 1: gave Grandma cow to Dell as a gift and a
- 35:20Speaker 1: Dell had sold off most of the herd, but she
- 35:21Speaker 1: kept her descendant, Missy, and this calf is the last
- 35:27Speaker 1: descendant in this line, and so this was her last
- 35:31Speaker 1: one of her last connections to her late husband. Oh okay,
- 35:36Speaker 1: but this is what's weird to me here is that
- 35:39Speaker 1: now we have the cow. We had the boat. She's
- 35:43Speaker 1: holding onto that stuff, but everything prior to that, according
- 35:46Speaker 1: to Kat, Dale got rid of ye did she get
- 35:50Speaker 1: rid of it or is it packed?
- 35:51Speaker 2: Way too painful to look that? Okay?
- 35:53Speaker 1: Fair, yeah, but okay fair fair. Dell thanks Elliott for
- 35:57Speaker 1: his help, not just in this moment, but just for
- 36:00Speaker 1: the presence he's been in their family, and Kat realizes
- 36:02Speaker 1: that she's being a jerk too, and she thinks him
- 36:05Speaker 1: and they have a sweet moment. She squeezes his hand,
- 36:08Speaker 1: which is cut short by the arrival of a fancy
- 36:11Speaker 1: car outside the barn, and boom is Brady in the background.
- 36:16Speaker 1: We hear that song again by David Gray. Brady shows
- 36:20Speaker 1: up and he says that he wants to cut You know.
- 36:22Speaker 1: He's there because he missed Alice, and he says happy
- 36:26Speaker 1: to see me, which just takes me back to like
- 36:30Speaker 1: teenage Brady, like I'm like, I don't like you at all.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Now like this track's adult Brady tracks.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Now, Oh right.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Well, and it's kind of manipulative, dude, you have another
- 36:41Speaker 1: woman living in your home, so don't expect your ex
- 36:44Speaker 1: wife to be shunning all over you. That's kind of gross.
- 36:48Speaker 1: But Kat has flashbacks to these early love moments with Brady.
- 36:53Speaker 1: So oh, poor Elliot, whoa whoa and poor doctor Andy's too,
- 36:59Speaker 1: poor doctor, I mean, if anything was to come of that.
- 37:02Speaker 1: But now we're in a real triangle here, we really are.
- 37:07Speaker 2: And that's the end of the episode. That's a wrap.
- 37:11Speaker 1: And in the previews we see that Alice is not
- 37:15Speaker 1: interested in talking to Daddy O because she knows who
- 37:19Speaker 1: he used to be. And no thanks exactly, and no
- 37:23Speaker 1: new episode next week because of super Bowl, so we
- 37:26Speaker 1: have to wait two weeks for the return of The
- 37:28Speaker 1: Way Home Boom. I know, I know, this is really
- 37:32Speaker 1: becoming one of my favorite shows to watch, and I
- 37:35Speaker 1: haven't for a long time had a show where I
- 37:37Speaker 1: have to wait week to week to watch. All right,
- 37:42Speaker 1: So should we talk about Notice in the Nineties and
- 37:45Speaker 1: Homie of the Week?
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 37:47Speaker 1: For me, the Notice in the nineties womens are all
- 37:49Speaker 1: music related.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Mm hmmm.
- 37:52Speaker 1: You know, you've got the David Gray song, You've got
- 37:56Speaker 1: LFO Girls of the Summer, you've got the Aerosmith reference,
- 38:00Speaker 1: everything else. I will say Alice's outfit when she comes
- 38:04Speaker 1: into the Barn, it's like a very like grunge adjacent
- 38:08Speaker 1: with like the oversized flannel, which is a look that's
- 38:10Speaker 1: popular now but was also popular I think at that
- 38:13Speaker 1: point in the nineties. Yeah, of course, what else you
- 38:17Speaker 1: course for notice in the nineties, Yeah, the Virgin Cola
- 38:21Speaker 1: reference Blair Witch Project, you know.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's good, nice sprinkle throughout. Agree.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Do you have a suggestion for Homie of the week?
- 38:33Speaker 1: For me, it would be Kyler Lee. Not her character,
- 38:37Speaker 1: but but her fantastic acting. She really made me feel
- 38:43Speaker 1: things when she was reacting to seeing Jacob and her
- 38:46Speaker 1: dad in the past. Yes, it has stuck with me. Actually,
- 38:50Speaker 1: I agree. All right, homies, thank you for listening to
