- Dodgers grind it out! This is The Sports Reset for Wednesday July 22nd In MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Philadelphia Phillies 2 to 1, with Max Muncy’s two-run homer in the fourth standing up as the difference. Justin Wrobleski worked into the seventh and struck out seven, and Tanner Scott got the final five outs after Philadelphia ran into a 5-2-6-4 double play in the ninth. The rough Canadian angle came at Rogers Centre, where the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Toronto Blue Jays 12 to 2 behind a Yandy Diaz three-run homer and three RBIs from Jonny DeLuca. Elsewhere, the San Diego Padres beat the Atlanta Braves 8 to 3, the New York Mets blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 4 to 0, and the Texas Rangers rolled past the Chicago White Sox 10 to 0. Looking ahead, the Dodgers and Phillies finish their MLB series today in Philadelphia, with Aaron Nola lined up against Eric Lauer after a rain-delayed, one-run game that came down to late bullpen execution and baserunning. In Toronto, the Jays get Tampa Bay again at Rogers Centre, and the job is pretty simple after giving up 12 runs: make the Rays earn traffic instead of letting one swing tilt the night early. The New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates also have a doubleheader after Tuesday’s rainout, while the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox play two at Fenway after their own makeup. Beyond the scoreboard, baseball labour talks are back in focus after the MLBPA pushed to keep a 20-round amateur draft, move it back to June, and expand eligibility rather than accept ownership’s proposed reductions.
