- 0:00Speaker 1: So is this the new norm? Is my question? Is
- 0:04Speaker 1: the new norm that you come five minutes late to
- 0:07Speaker 1: all of our sessions? It's three minutes, you fucker. Let
- 0:10Speaker 1: me tell you something. We have a very fancy We
- 0:12Speaker 1: got a very fancy guest, and the very fancy guest
- 0:14Speaker 1: sitting sitting alone in his closet, and you're what are
- 0:18Speaker 1: you doing making a drink? No, I was about to
- 0:21Speaker 1: get my GTS kombucha. Actually I was asking. I was
- 0:24Speaker 1: gonna ask for like five minutes so I could get
- 0:26Speaker 1: a GTSC. We'll not five minutes five seconds shipment. Today,
- 0:30Speaker 1: I got a big old ship. I got a ship like,
- 0:33Speaker 1: I got a real shipman, not like not that like
- 0:35Speaker 1: you know what interested Yeah, now, not that we're interested
- 0:38Speaker 1: in advertising in your on your podcast shipment. I got that, yo.
- 0:44Speaker 1: You know you got to talk about it. You got
- 0:46Speaker 1: to talk about us every time you talk to start
- 0:48Speaker 1: this podcast shipment. So I got that big ass Kimbuocha shipment.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And I've already gone through two of them bad boys.
- 0:56Speaker 1: You might Yeah, Donald, we were on a call Kimbuche
- 0:59Speaker 1: has become a sponsor of the show, and we are
- 1:01Speaker 1: on a call with them, and Donald and I genuinely
- 1:04Speaker 1: drink it. So it was a no brainer. And Donald's like,
- 1:07Speaker 1: let me ask you something. Since we have the inventor
- 1:09Speaker 1: of this on the phone, how many do you recommend
- 1:12Speaker 1: I can have a day? And the guy the Guy's like, well,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I think three is probably probably the max you want
- 1:19Speaker 1: to have a day. And Don was like, okay, good, good, good,
- 1:25Speaker 1: So you might want to pace bro, They're gonna be
- 1:28Speaker 1: gone soon. Man, They're gonna be gone. Listen, let me
- 1:31Speaker 1: my wife, my kids. Oh it's a rap. We have
- 1:33Speaker 1: a very First of all, this episode is fucking hilarious,
- 1:36Speaker 1: very funny episode. I laughed so many times. And I
- 1:40Speaker 1: was on a text with with Donald then Bill right
- 1:42Speaker 1: before this and about something, and I was like, this
- 1:44Speaker 1: episode one twenty is one of the funniest of season one. Yeah. Easy, easy,
- 1:49Speaker 1: And we're very handsome guests. Are you nervous? I put
- 1:52Speaker 1: on a nice sweatshirt for him. No, I'm not nervous.
- 1:55Speaker 1: He and I have worked a lot together. Actually we
- 1:57Speaker 1: did Felicity together, we four scrubs and then after Scrubs. Uh,
- 2:03Speaker 1: we did a little movie called Let's Kill Ward's Wife
- 2:05Speaker 1: together and I played Ward and he directed, and so uh,
- 2:11Speaker 1: you know, well, I get I get nervous every time
- 2:14Speaker 1: I see Scott Folly because really, yeah, I'm I'm a
- 2:19Speaker 1: straight man for the most part, but there are certain
- 2:21Speaker 1: men that I get a little shy in front of,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and okay, Folly is one of them. Really, I don't
- 2:28Speaker 1: want to play hide the peep with him, but I
- 2:30Speaker 1: get a little, I get a little jittery. Would you play?
- 2:33Speaker 1: Would you play tip to tip? I don't want to
- 2:35Speaker 1: touch tips. I just listen. I am secure enough in
- 2:38Speaker 1: my in my sexuality to be able to say that
- 2:41Speaker 1: I get a little, I get a little a flutter.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Oh okay, I don't want to go tip to tip
- 2:46Speaker 1: with Scott Folly, but I I do think he's a
- 2:49Speaker 1: He's very dreamy to look at, and I I also
- 2:52Speaker 1: really like him as a human being. He's a he's
- 2:54Speaker 1: a very sweet man. Okay, should we invite him in? Yeah?
- 2:57Speaker 1: Why not? I mean, I'm excited dan him in, Dan
- 3:00Speaker 1: allow him in. We put him in a green room.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, look handsome man. Just talking about you
- 3:10Speaker 1: you were yeah, Donald was saying that you guys have
- 3:13Speaker 1: worked on several projects together. Not wait before we get
- 3:16Speaker 1: into this, Let's make sure he's recording. Are you record?
- 3:20Speaker 1: I think I'm recording on here right the phone? Yes, yes,
- 3:23Speaker 1: good many A guess I got this sub scuff fully,
- 3:26Speaker 1: but there's something that tells me that you're going to
- 3:28Speaker 1: do it right. Look so handsome looking at him, Look
- 3:31Speaker 1: at him. I'm looking wait wait, I was gonna wait
- 3:34Speaker 1: a beat to tell him he was handsome. Donald, You
- 3:36Speaker 1: went right for it. Can I tell you this. I
- 3:39Speaker 1: watched the episode not that long ago. I've watched it
- 3:42Speaker 1: a couple times since we talked about me being on this,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and this is the first time my hair has been
- 3:46Speaker 1: the same length as it was during that episode. And
- 3:49Speaker 1: I have the pandemic to think, Scott, you got an intro.
- 3:52Speaker 1: I don't think another man in nine years got the
- 3:56Speaker 1: intro that we normally reserved for the beautiful woman. And
- 4:00Speaker 1: walking in with the slow motion and the fan and
- 4:02Speaker 1: the literally angels going oh, it was a bit much
- 4:06Speaker 1: and I was a little overwhelmed. And I think you
- 4:08Speaker 1: can tell that in my performance. It was hilarious though.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And eating jello eating jello, I mean I remember them,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I remember them coming to me saying like, what do
- 4:19Speaker 1: you want to eat? I was like, that's a hospital right,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and they're like Jello. It is the way Sarah's character
- 4:25Speaker 1: is so randy for you in this I had forgotten,
- 4:28Speaker 1: you know, we obviously, Scott, we go back. We haven't
- 4:31Speaker 1: seen these in twenty years, and so it's fun for
- 4:32Speaker 1: Doll and I because even though we're the stars of
- 4:35Speaker 1: the show, we're watching it like a new being, like, oh,
- 4:38Speaker 1: that's a funny episode. And I had totally forgotten how
- 4:40Speaker 1: in this episode Sarah is like really horny, frankly and
- 4:45Speaker 1: riled up, like she's like she's She literally says if
- 4:48Speaker 1: I don't sleep with him, I'm gonna kill myself, right,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and then says she said she she'd suck on his
- 4:53Speaker 1: foot or something, and he's like what they went? They
- 4:59Speaker 1: went to a law of lengths with this, between the
- 5:01Speaker 1: sucking on the foot, talking about needing to sleep with me,
- 5:04Speaker 1: begging me to ask her out do it, dropping stuff,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and doing bizarre contortions, which, by the way, works for
- 5:11Speaker 1: anybody out there. It was really funny though, because it's
- 5:13Speaker 1: not something you often see on a show, like you
- 5:16Speaker 1: always see like the man being like neurotic and frantic.
- 5:19Speaker 1: How do I get her? And I'm so attracted to
- 5:22Speaker 1: her I'm so horny, you know, and this. I thought
- 5:24Speaker 1: this was funny that Sarah. First of all, Sarah was
- 5:26Speaker 1: very funny doing it, but she's so on a mission
- 5:29Speaker 1: to get laid. Yeah, I am, you know, it's funny.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I had so many thoughts watching this. Sorry, you're gonna
- 5:35Speaker 1: see my lights go on and nobody can see that
- 5:37Speaker 1: because we're I'm a podcast. I'm gonna I'm in a
- 5:39Speaker 1: closet where it's got one of those automatic lights. You
- 5:41Speaker 1: walk in and it turns on, and if I'm sitting
- 5:43Speaker 1: here and not moving, then it's gonna go dark. That's
- 5:46Speaker 1: the kind of fancy house that Scott Foli has. Everyone
- 5:49Speaker 1: he has a light that turns on with his mom.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Some people have the clapper, some people have light switches.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Scott Foli has movement Listen. One day, if you have
- 5:58Speaker 1: the level of success of legendary actor Scott Fully, you
- 6:01Speaker 1: could get one of these motion lights in your closet.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Uh huh. I think all of your closets have that.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Um no. I was so impressed. First of all, what
- 6:10Speaker 1: a time capsule. These things are right, like not just
- 6:13Speaker 1: the references, but everything you see, like the TV you
- 6:15Speaker 1: guys are watching in the beginning. It is an old
- 6:17Speaker 1: vacuum tube television, right, you know, which you just don't
- 6:20Speaker 1: see anymore. Plus, you guys are talking about watching Iron Chef,
- 6:23Speaker 1: which somehow has stood the test of time, because I
- 6:25Speaker 1: think it's still on. I think they're still making Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I think back then it was like Iron Chef was
- 6:31Speaker 1: an import and now it's domestic. I don't know that
- 6:36Speaker 1: there is there a domestic Iron Chef, yes and stuff. Yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 1: but it was also it was also so impressive to
- 6:44Speaker 1: me to see, you know, this is the we're getting
- 6:46Speaker 1: towards the end of the first season, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 1: And you guys have your characters dialed in at this
- 6:52Speaker 1: point already. I've been on a bunch of television shows
- 6:55Speaker 1: where it's not until like end of season three where
- 6:57Speaker 1: people are like, oh, oh, I know who this guy is. Right,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you guys are dialed in to a person like from
- 7:03Speaker 1: Kelso to Cox to you guys to Sarah to like,
- 7:06Speaker 1: it's amazing and being able to jump into that, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 1: it was such an interesting character that I got to
- 7:12Speaker 1: play here. But but you're right, watching Sarah and that
- 7:15Speaker 1: character totally go for it was such an interesting thing
- 7:19Speaker 1: because you always see it from the other side, don't you. Yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 1: And she's really fucking funny. I mean, we say this,
- 7:24Speaker 1: this is our twentieth episode of this Scott, fully believe
- 7:27Speaker 1: it or not. It's become a hit and we can't
- 7:29Speaker 1: believe it ourselves. But this is our twentieth one, and
- 7:32Speaker 1: I We've said it a bunch of times, but Sarah
- 7:34Speaker 1: Chalk is so fucking funny. I mean this episode in particular,
- 7:37Speaker 1: she is so fucking funny in this episode. She's so talented,
- 7:40Speaker 1: she's so beautiful, she is so good at what she does,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and she goes for it, man. And that's what I
- 7:45Speaker 1: appreciated most about this show is that, you know, there
- 7:47Speaker 1: are things that you would read on the page, you
- 7:49Speaker 1: think like, oh, how am I going to do that?
- 7:51Speaker 1: And everybody, to a person goes for it. And I
- 7:54Speaker 1: think that's what really made this show successful and what
- 7:56Speaker 1: makes it stand the test of time, even though we're
- 7:58Speaker 1: still looking at old TV. It's all good. Well, let's
- 8:02Speaker 1: speaking of we have a lot to talk about, Donald,
- 8:04Speaker 1: but I think we should sing first, um and we Scott,
- 8:08Speaker 1: I was about to say, speaking of successful, let's get
- 8:10Speaker 1: into that successful theme song about six seven eight so
- 8:14Speaker 1: you want to do it? No, I like it the song.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I would like Scott fully to count seven, okay, go
- 8:23Speaker 1: five six seven, eight? Stories about show we made about
- 8:29Speaker 1: a bunch of dots and nurses said, he's a stories
- 8:36Speaker 1: should so yetto around here? Are yeado around here? A M.
- 8:48Speaker 1: That's the first time in podcast, sister, we stopped the
- 8:51Speaker 1: opening theme song. And I'm sorry, Donald, I didn't mean
- 8:54Speaker 1: to question your no no no no no no no
- 8:56Speaker 1: no no no no no no no no. It's just
- 8:58Speaker 1: excited about a VIP guest, and I like, give him
- 9:00Speaker 1: the honor. He was really excited to go for it.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not at all hurt in any way. No,
- 9:06Speaker 1: you know you're we are we are, we are partners
- 9:07Speaker 1: in this, and I don't want you to ever think
- 9:09Speaker 1: I would ever question when it's time to sing the song.
- 9:12Speaker 1: It was to your harmony. Your harmony with that song
- 9:15Speaker 1: is something that that my wife and I have had
- 9:17Speaker 1: conversations about. We go for it, We go for it's
- 9:20Speaker 1: really good. No listen, Scott. When we made the song,
- 9:23Speaker 1: we were like okay, but I was like, well, how
- 9:25Speaker 1: do we how do we do it? Now? How do
- 9:27Speaker 1: we you know? We made the song, but how are
- 9:29Speaker 1: we were both gonna sing all the lyrics? And Donald's like,
- 9:31Speaker 1: don't worry, I got this, and he like came up
- 9:32Speaker 1: with all those harmonies. I was like, Zach was like,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I'll just send you a I'll send you my verse.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I'll sing the whole song and I'll send it to
- 9:41Speaker 1: you and you just sing, because originally we were going
- 9:43Speaker 1: to do it where we split up the words. Yeah, right,
- 9:48Speaker 1: And he was like, I'll sing the whole thing and
- 9:50Speaker 1: you just pick where you wanna sing and we'll have
- 9:52Speaker 1: Charlie cut us in. And I heard him sing and
- 9:55Speaker 1: I was like, I think he sounds amazing. The only
- 9:59Speaker 1: way that this is gonna work is if I just
- 10:01Speaker 1: back him up with some If I sing the whole
- 10:02Speaker 1: thing too exactly exactly, this is good, but you know
- 10:08Speaker 1: what's gonna one's gonna make it better if I do
- 10:11Speaker 1: really need if I do really showy harmonies over all
- 10:14Speaker 1: of this, well, it works and we are fans, so
- 10:19Speaker 1: good job, right right? Right? Of course, Donald, I knew
- 10:22Speaker 1: we should go back to what I was gonna say
- 10:24Speaker 1: that let's go obvious Scott's career. I'll do a little
- 10:27Speaker 1: we'd have to go back a little bit, Scott. The
- 10:29Speaker 1: first time I remember hearing about you was on a
- 10:31Speaker 1: very very successful show, solely successful because of Donald's phase on,
- 10:36Speaker 1: but I believe you were on it too. It was
- 10:38Speaker 1: called Felicity, that's correct. Donald and I met for the
- 10:41Speaker 1: first time on Felicity, and I remember being like, holy shit,
- 10:44Speaker 1: the clueless guy's here. That's what happens every time he
- 10:49Speaker 1: walks into a restaurant. Of course, of course, but I also,
- 10:53Speaker 1: I mean Donald was great on that, and you were you.
- 10:55Speaker 1: You had that, you were going through this phase where
- 10:57Speaker 1: you were trying to be ripped. You were. I remember
- 11:00Speaker 1: I think the first table read you came in, you
- 11:02Speaker 1: were carrying like a three gallon Jerry can of water. Yeah, crazy,
- 11:06Speaker 1: the amount of water you would drink every day, and
- 11:09Speaker 1: you were shredded and we'd play basketball in the parking
- 11:12Speaker 1: lot out there. And actually I remember, I think you've
- 11:15Speaker 1: been on the show off and on for a season
- 11:17Speaker 1: or two, maybe three, and before before Scrubs came around, right, yeah, yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 1: And I remember talking to you. You had done the
- 11:26Speaker 1: pilot and you were telling me about it and you said,
- 11:29Speaker 1: I don't know, man, it's really funny. It's from this
- 11:31Speaker 1: young Rider. Uh, he did Spin City and we got
- 11:35Speaker 1: a good group. And I saw the pilot and it's
- 11:37Speaker 1: really funny. I think it's gonna take off. And I
- 11:39Speaker 1: was like, yeah, good for you. Let's keep playing basketball. Yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and I season later. Yeah, we had a lot of
- 11:45Speaker 1: conversations just about work back back then. Also, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I don't know how knew you were to the game,
- 11:52Speaker 1: but you had been working. You did you had done Felicity,
- 11:55Speaker 1: You had done Scream two or was it Scream three?
- 11:59Speaker 1: I've done before Felicity. I had done Dawson's Creek, which
- 12:02Speaker 1: was sort of my introduction to the back then was
- 12:05Speaker 1: the WB the now defunct WB World, Um, which was
- 12:08Speaker 1: Felicity your first big leading part. Felicity was my first
- 12:12Speaker 1: big leading part. Yeah. Yeah, and you know it was
- 12:15Speaker 1: it was really the uh the springboard that and I'm
- 12:18Speaker 1: so grateful for it that that allowed me to be
- 12:20Speaker 1: a part of your show and sort of everything that's
- 12:22Speaker 1: come sense. And um, and when you guys, are you
- 12:26Speaker 1: guys still friendly? Um? The three of you, the three
- 12:28Speaker 1: of you, the love Triangle, we're not not friendly. Um,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you don't like you know, I mean Donald where you're
- 12:34Speaker 1: not like having him over and and and putting his
- 12:37Speaker 1: putting his kids in a in a bouncy castle. No,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I'm We're not like that. But but we got together
- 12:42Speaker 1: last year four It was the twentieth reunion of Felicity UM,
- 12:47Speaker 1: which was amazing and we got so many people together.
- 12:50Speaker 1: We went to the u at X, the Austin Television Festival,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and I think they screened an episode and we all
- 12:56Speaker 1: sat on stage with a bunch of people ask us questions.
- 12:58Speaker 1: There was a modern It was really great with the
- 13:00Speaker 1: first time we'd all been together in you know, seventeen
- 13:04Speaker 1: eighteen years. Wow. Yeah, it was really really fun man.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And I, you know, I'd always said I don't think
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, they talk about doing reboots, and I always said,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I don't think you can do a reboot of Felicity
- 13:16Speaker 1: because it was so specific to UM, not just that
- 13:19Speaker 1: time in a person's life when we were all so
- 13:23Speaker 1: much younger, but to that period of the world of
- 13:28Speaker 1: our existence. And I sort of changed my mind, UM
- 13:33Speaker 1: after being with him, because I I just missed them
- 13:35Speaker 1: all so much, and I remembered the feelings that I had,
- 13:39Speaker 1: both good and bad, and I sort of yearned for them.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So if you know, you I think we have an
- 13:44Speaker 1: exclusive right here on the Fake Doctors will friend Scott
- 13:48Speaker 1: Foley is willing to do a Felicity reboot. Everybody that
- 13:51Speaker 1: would be interesting around again, it wouldn't be anough could
- 13:53Speaker 1: Donald be on too? I would only support it different
- 13:55Speaker 1: My character lives. My character lives, so it's a possibility,
- 13:59Speaker 1: right good, Um, I only supported if you get to
- 14:01Speaker 1: go back Tonal. It would be very interesting to see
- 14:03Speaker 1: if everybody is h still friendly from the cast in
- 14:08Speaker 1: the show, you know what I mean, Like guys from
- 14:10Speaker 1: in college together, and you guys all lived together kind
- 14:13Speaker 1: of sort of, and you guys all dated each other,
- 14:16Speaker 1: but it was college and usually you know, I didn't
- 14:19Speaker 1: go to college, but I don't have a lot of
- 14:21Speaker 1: fringe from my you know, early that I still hang
- 14:25Speaker 1: out with from my early twenties that I still hang
- 14:27Speaker 1: out with. So it would be really interesting to see
- 14:29Speaker 1: what happened after you guys all left NYU. So I
- 14:32Speaker 1: remember when there was a controversy when Carry Russell cut
- 14:35Speaker 1: her hair, like people lost their minds? Right yeah? And
- 14:38Speaker 1: I remember being like, I remember, I remember I didn't
- 14:40Speaker 1: watch the show, but I remember being like, are people
- 14:43Speaker 1: really up in arms that Garry Russell cut her hair.
- 14:46Speaker 1: People were up in arms and it was it's to
- 14:48Speaker 1: this day. I think the thing that um people talk
- 14:51Speaker 1: about the most when they talk about the show, and
- 14:53Speaker 1: the interesting thing is that it was scripted, like she
- 14:56Speaker 1: cut her hair on the show and somehow it it
- 14:59Speaker 1: gained tracks. And is this urban legend that she did
- 15:02Speaker 1: it on her own because she was angry or wanted
- 15:04Speaker 1: to change or get away from the character. We cut it.
- 15:06Speaker 1: You actually see it in season two of the show,
- 15:09Speaker 1: her cutting her hair, and I thought she looked more
- 15:12Speaker 1: beautiful with the short hair than she did with the
- 15:14Speaker 1: long But you know that people just loved it. I'm
- 15:17Speaker 1: just just making up that people loved her hair so
- 15:19Speaker 1: much that they were like, how dare you? It was
- 15:22Speaker 1: a lot of hair, dude, it was a lot of hair.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I'm assuming, as I recall, she had beautiful, curly, long hair,
- 15:28Speaker 1: and people were like, dare you? Yeah, I mean it
- 15:31Speaker 1: enviable hair. Yeah, yeah, it looked like she had been
- 15:33Speaker 1: growing it since birth. That's how beautiful the hair was.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Russell was on our show. She was a love interest
- 15:39Speaker 1: of mine. Is that right? On Scrubs? Yeah? Yes, she
- 15:43Speaker 1: did a couple of episodes just like, well, you did
- 15:45Speaker 1: way more episodes. Your character tracked four yeah the end.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Don't worry, Scott, you did way more, but uh, do
- 15:52Speaker 1: me a favor and look up how many she did.
- 15:53Speaker 1: But she did too. Yeah, oh Donald, you know that.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah that's cool. So now she's talented and great. I kissed,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I think, I mean on the show. I think we kissed.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It might be we might be lip guarantee, I would
- 16:05Speaker 1: guarantee that you remember whether you kissed or not. No,
- 16:08Speaker 1: I know. I I remember being very excited that she
- 16:10Speaker 1: was a love interest. But JD didn't make out with
- 16:12Speaker 1: all his love interests. Joel will look it up for me,
- 16:15Speaker 1: did JD? But anyway, Scott, we might be lip cousins. Uh,
- 16:20Speaker 1: we're We're definitely weener cousins. We're definitely weener cousins. Donald
- 16:23Speaker 1: and I were touching talking about touching tips just before
- 16:26Speaker 1: you came on, but not in real life Donald, with
- 16:29Speaker 1: Sarah in the character. Yeah, Oh well, I think I
- 16:34Speaker 1: hope that's the only crossover. I don't think we had
- 16:36Speaker 1: any real life crossover, Scott, fully, and I hope not
- 16:39Speaker 1: because the woman would have clearly preferred you. I don't
- 16:42Speaker 1: know about that. Although you know, I'm kindly. How dare
- 16:45Speaker 1: you you know how handsome you are? Listen, listen, listen,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you might be handsome, you know, listen. I know that
- 16:54Speaker 1: all of your supporters are out there right now. You know,
- 16:58Speaker 1: just you probably bought, you know, quite a few downloads
- 17:02Speaker 1: to our podcast just now. Yeah, but it's very kind
- 17:06Speaker 1: people who oh your scandal crew? Hey, girls, how y'all
- 17:09Speaker 1: doing scandal crew? I'll take that three of us have
- 17:16Speaker 1: something else in common, and that is we've all had
- 17:19Speaker 1: ABC canceled our shows in season one. Yes, thirteen episodes.
- 17:24Speaker 1: He's got thirteen. I got I only got ten, Scott,
- 17:27Speaker 1: how many did you get? We got thirteen? Thank goodness?
- 17:31Speaker 1: And a trip to Prague? Right right? So for those
- 17:34Speaker 1: of you don't know, um, because I guess not enough
- 17:36Speaker 1: of you knew. None of us watched. Scott was on
- 17:39Speaker 1: a huge budget action series that shot in Prague. He
- 17:43Speaker 1: moved his whole family there, which is no small deal
- 17:47Speaker 1: because you have two children, right, I have three children.
- 17:50Speaker 1: They were three school over there. Yeah. Um. And it
- 17:53Speaker 1: was not a, by no means a simple show. I
- 17:55Speaker 1: was about. I was going to direct it, but then
- 17:57Speaker 1: I had a conflict. But it was a huge budget
- 17:59Speaker 1: at sort of James Bond comedic James Bond action show
- 18:04Speaker 1: that Bill Lawrence uh six Degrees of Bill Lawrence was
- 18:07Speaker 1: the showrunner of, and I thought it was amazing. The
- 18:10Speaker 1: pilot was unbelievable. I couldn't believe the scale of it.
- 18:13Speaker 1: It looked like it looked like a giant feature. Oh
- 18:16Speaker 1: thanks man, and you were so good in it. But anyway,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I was, as I was preparing for today, I went
- 18:21Speaker 1: all three of us we were stars of ABC and
- 18:25Speaker 1: then got a new ABC show that only went half
- 18:28Speaker 1: a season. Man, it was just and it's still heartbreaking.
- 18:31Speaker 1: My wife and I had a conversation about it a
- 18:32Speaker 1: couple nights ago where you know, she was like, oh,
- 18:34Speaker 1: I wish we were still in Prague. You know, we
- 18:37Speaker 1: just we were so fortunate. And you know, that's one
- 18:40Speaker 1: of the great things about and one of the reasons
- 18:43Speaker 1: I'm so excited to talk to you guys today because
- 18:45Speaker 1: you know, Scrubs for me was it started out as
- 18:48Speaker 1: just a gig, right and coming in doing something fun,
- 18:51Speaker 1: doing something different, and it has morphed into the relationships
- 18:57Speaker 1: that I've made from it. Have I've sustained a lot
- 19:02Speaker 1: of what I do and it's it's made me happy.
- 19:04Speaker 1: The people that I I've gotten to work with and
- 19:06Speaker 1: gone on to work with because of Scrubs have been great.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And like you said, Bill Lawrence was the showrunner of
- 19:12Speaker 1: Whiskey Cavalier and we were over in Prague together, and
- 19:15Speaker 1: you know, without Scrubs that wouldn't have happened. And I
- 19:17Speaker 1: think he really showed that you were really funny, Scott.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I mean, I think I think that with your other
- 19:22Speaker 1: shows that you've known for, um, you know, whether it
- 19:25Speaker 1: be Felicity or Scandal. Uh. You know, obviously people know
- 19:28Speaker 1: that you as a as a as a great dramatic actor,
- 19:31Speaker 1: but I think on Scrubs Bill really gave you a
- 19:33Speaker 1: chance to be hilarious. One of my favorite moments of
- 19:37Speaker 1: of of of Sean's character was in the script. I
- 19:41Speaker 1: say this to Scott all the time and Bill all
- 19:42Speaker 1: the time that it literally said in a script Sean
- 19:46Speaker 1: forlornly rides a dolphin. And then when I saw the
- 19:52Speaker 1: shot of you forlornly riding a dolphin, I thought he
- 19:55Speaker 1: fucking nailed that. He literally maybe he really the best
- 19:58Speaker 1: screen direction of my That's how I would sum up
- 20:01Speaker 1: that shot is Sean forlornly rides a dolphin. Oh thanks man. Well,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I will look before I will say this, though, I
- 20:10Speaker 1: knew you were funny from when we did Felicity together,
- 20:12Speaker 1: when Noh went off the rails and went a little
- 20:14Speaker 1: batshit crazy, and you got to explore this character who
- 20:19Speaker 1: was kind of by the book and did everything by
- 20:21Speaker 1: the book. Uh refined himself. And I remember doing a
- 20:25Speaker 1: bunch of episodes where they were looking for you and
- 20:27Speaker 1: we finally found you, and you were like, you were
- 20:30Speaker 1: completely out there, and I remember not being able to
- 20:33Speaker 1: hold it together when we were doing the takes because
- 20:36Speaker 1: you were so funny. So I knew you were funny
- 20:38Speaker 1: way before we still before you came on Scrubs. Oh
- 20:42Speaker 1: thanks man. I um yeah, I think I think Zach
- 20:45Speaker 1: you overstate my my talent by saying I'm a great
- 20:48Speaker 1: dramatic actor. I think I'm passable. But Donald, that was
- 20:52Speaker 1: that was a bizarre like Season three Tangent where my
- 20:55Speaker 1: character Noel decided to change his name to Leon, literally
- 20:58Speaker 1: just reverse the letters in his name. They put like
- 21:03Speaker 1: a weird wig on me, so I had like blonde
- 21:06Speaker 1: tips on my hair. It was the strangest thing. But
- 21:09Speaker 1: thank you, Donald, that was It was at least a
- 21:12Speaker 1: little chance for me to stretch myself in that character.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Now did j j Abrams run all the seasons every season? Yes,
- 21:19Speaker 1: every season. He was a gone a little bit on
- 21:23Speaker 1: season four on our final season because he had started
- 21:26Speaker 1: a show called Alias and so was sort of doing
- 21:29Speaker 1: his time between both sets. But he was there the
- 21:32Speaker 1: whole time. Why I was really fortunate. Um you know,
- 21:34Speaker 1: obviously no one knew that jaj Abens would become JJ
- 21:37Speaker 1: Abrams back then. You know, do you like Donald occasionally
- 21:43Speaker 1: put it out there that you're open to being in
- 21:45Speaker 1: any Star Wars franchises that he's just can I tell
- 21:50Speaker 1: you it's been. It's been like if if I was
- 21:53Speaker 1: ever in anything Grunberg, he keeps getting all the love.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I mean, where the Fox's happening with with Donald and
- 21:59Speaker 1: Scott Foley. Grumberg and JJ Abrams have been friends since
- 22:02Speaker 1: they were three years old. Like they were best friends
- 22:04Speaker 1: in elementary school. They made you know, crappy movies together
- 22:07Speaker 1: on their Super eight film cameras when they were kids. Uh,
- 22:11Speaker 1: they were best man at each other's weddings. Look, I
- 22:13Speaker 1: think JJ knows just by the fact that I'm an
- 22:15Speaker 1: actor but I would like to be in Star Wars.
- 22:20Speaker 1: The gotta be more. Donald's very but I would Yeah,
- 22:24Speaker 1: of course I would love to. And I you know,
- 22:26Speaker 1: every time he signs on to direct a new one,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I sent him a text like, Wow, way to go.
- 22:30Speaker 1: You're not going to see your family for a while.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I want some friends around. UM. So I'm not sure
- 22:36Speaker 1: how to take it that he hasn't cast me in.
- 22:38Speaker 1: You know, you always there's the old story that you
- 22:41Speaker 1: know someone likes working with you, if they if they
- 22:43Speaker 1: hire you again and again and again. And I've been
- 22:45Speaker 1: I've been fortunate with Bill that that that's happened multiple times.
- 22:49Speaker 1: JJ not so much, you know, build a direct a
- 22:53Speaker 1: giant ten pole movie. I mean, what's going on? Bill?
- 22:56Speaker 1: Do you remember he was gonna do Fletch. He rate
- 23:00Speaker 1: script for Fletch, and I went and I met with him,
- 23:02Speaker 1: I read with him, and there was a whole long
- 23:04Speaker 1: Mirramax story that goes with it. But but he was
- 23:07Speaker 1: on his way. Man. I thought he would have been
- 23:08Speaker 1: great at that. I know we really need him. I
- 23:10Speaker 1: don't think he is interested. He loves TV so much.
- 23:12Speaker 1: But I think for all of us, we would like
- 23:13Speaker 1: Bill to become a studio tent pole filmmaker, if he
- 23:16Speaker 1: doesn't mind movies anymore. They do. There's a couple coming out. Yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 1: they're saying July. They're saying, like the end of July,
- 23:24Speaker 1: things are gonna pick. You're saying that Chris Nolan movie
- 23:27Speaker 1: is coming out no matter what Tenant. Oh really right,
- 23:31Speaker 1: That's what I've been hearing. And then I mean, maybe
- 23:33Speaker 1: they'll change their mind. But I read something on the
- 23:36Speaker 1: interwebs that said they're still saying July, which assumes that
- 23:39Speaker 1: people are going to be willing to go to the
- 23:42Speaker 1: theater in July. I don't, I don't, I don't know.
- 23:44Speaker 1: It seems pretty ballsy to release like a two hundred
- 23:47Speaker 1: million dollars I mean, I don't know if it's not
- 23:48Speaker 1: much money, but I think sciant movies for that for
- 23:52Speaker 1: in July. But somethings are filming already, like they're filming
- 23:55Speaker 1: in certain areas. Juell just said two hundred and five
- 23:58Speaker 1: million and July seven teenth, that's coming up five million dollars.
- 24:04Speaker 1: That's that's going to be interesting to see how you
- 24:05Speaker 1: spend two hundred and five million dollars. I would think, like,
- 24:09Speaker 1: wouldn't you have to double the amount of theaters because
- 24:11Speaker 1: the theater is only going to be at half capacity
- 24:13Speaker 1: just because of social distancing, in order to like they're
- 24:15Speaker 1: just aren't enough theaters out there. To the money, two
- 24:18Speaker 1: hundred and five is the production budget, so they're gonna
- 24:21Speaker 1: put like one hundred million into releasing it. That is
- 24:24Speaker 1: that's a lot of money. That is a lot of money.
- 24:27Speaker 1: But I asked my but then you ask yourself how
- 24:29Speaker 1: much did it cost to make Endgame and all of
- 24:31Speaker 1: those things? Those things look like they cost half a
- 24:33Speaker 1: billion dollars. No, but when you've got a built in Marvelonians,
- 24:36Speaker 1: this movie has no uh mega celebrities in it at all. Yeah,
- 24:40Speaker 1: but I mean no, I know Chris Nolan is his
- 24:43Speaker 1: own enterprise. Don't get me wrong, I get it. But
- 24:45Speaker 1: it's got to be the most amount of money spent
- 24:48Speaker 1: on an original script. Wow fifty six, Scott, you're not
- 24:55Speaker 1: supposed to read the producer No, sorry, same thing, Sarah,
- 25:02Speaker 1: Sarah did the same thing. Scott Donald and I are
- 25:04Speaker 1: the hosts of the show. You as a guest to
- 25:07Speaker 1: ignore my producer's notes. Well, no, you know what I
- 25:10Speaker 1: was doing was pretending that I actually knew the budget Sarah.
- 25:16Speaker 1: We had Sarah on and Joelle was like, you know,
- 25:18Speaker 1: Joelle always gives us little things to help the conversation along,
- 25:21Speaker 1: and Sarah just starts reading him like, Sarah, that is
- 25:23Speaker 1: not for the guests. The fact that you needed little
- 25:28Speaker 1: things to help the conversation along with Sarah for ten
- 25:30Speaker 1: years is amazing. No, but I said, I said, Sarah,
- 25:33Speaker 1: what happens if Joelle's running like this is so boring?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Help her along? You know, like, don't read those Okay,
- 25:39Speaker 1: So I'm gonna put a piece of tape above my No, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I'm kidding. I'm kidding Joelle. Joel would never write Scott
- 25:47Speaker 1: Folly is so boring. Don't worry. Um. She wouldn't be
- 25:50Speaker 1: the first one anyway. All I was saying was that
- 25:51Speaker 1: Chris Nolan, I get is it's his own entity, and
- 25:54Speaker 1: I get that everyone is going to see this movie
- 25:57Speaker 1: because he's a fucking genius. But I wonder if it's
- 26:00Speaker 1: the most amount of money ever spent on a on
- 26:02Speaker 1: on a piece of material that isn't already established piece
- 26:07Speaker 1: of intellectual property like Marvel or James Bond or the like.
- 26:11Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, I don't. I don't know.
- 26:14Speaker 1: That's a lot of money to have to spend on
- 26:15Speaker 1: something and it not work, you know, Yeah, I don't. Yeah,
- 26:18Speaker 1: I mean just it's just the amount of money it
- 26:20Speaker 1: has to make in order for it to be successful
- 26:23Speaker 1: is just. And especially with Scott's saying, is that the
- 26:27Speaker 1: talk is that the theaters are only gonna be half full,
- 26:30Speaker 1: so you can have most distance from eat from each other.
- 26:32Speaker 1: So then you need to double the amount of screenings. Um,
- 26:36Speaker 1: you know how that's going to work. What would be
- 26:38Speaker 1: really interesting is Okay, so Trolls World Tour was supposed
- 26:42Speaker 1: to come out in theaters and it didn't make it
- 26:44Speaker 1: to theaters because of the whole COVID thing, right, and
- 26:47Speaker 1: so they released it on digital the digital platform, but
- 26:51Speaker 1: you had to rent it. You couldn't buy it. You
- 26:53Speaker 1: could only rent it, and your rental lasts for about,
- 26:56Speaker 1: you know, twenty four hours. I wonder how much money
- 26:59Speaker 1: Trolls World Tour made. Because the model is there to
- 27:04Speaker 1: put movies out, well, at least right now, if you
- 27:06Speaker 1: if you really want to watch uh, and they haven't
- 27:11Speaker 1: really experimented with like big blockbuster movies, but if you
- 27:14Speaker 1: really want to watch a movie. It's fine to watch
- 27:17Speaker 1: it at home. I understand they need movie theater money
- 27:20Speaker 1: because popcorn all of that shit, theaters and everything. But
- 27:22Speaker 1: I wonder what Trolls World Tour did for Joel if
- 27:26Speaker 1: can we find that out? I wonder if even I
- 27:29Speaker 1: wonder if it's even published. Um so, seventy seven million
- 27:32Speaker 1: Trolls World Tour did That's a lot. I don't know. Yeah,
- 27:36Speaker 1: well that would be That would be you saying, is
- 27:38Speaker 1: that the first weekend or is that total? No, that
- 27:40Speaker 1: would be so when you rent it, because I haven't
- 27:43Speaker 1: done this yet, when you rent with this new model
- 27:45Speaker 1: where you rent the movie for twenty four hour? What
- 27:48Speaker 1: is what did what did Trolls cost you? Twenty bucks
- 27:52Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine something? I love. I love the two
- 27:54Speaker 1: dads know they're like twenty bucks? Yeah, oh yeah please.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I looked at my wife. I was like, we're spending
- 27:58Speaker 1: twenty bucks on this? Yeah, all right, several times too,
- 28:03Speaker 1: so I think how much? Think how much money? You've got?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Enough the phase ons because you guys are renting it
- 28:08Speaker 1: multiple times. But it would cost more if we went
- 28:11Speaker 1: to the movie theater though, because it would be yes,
- 28:14Speaker 1: twenty bucks each person. You know what I mean, and
- 28:16Speaker 1: so plus yeah, that's right, plus popcorn and all of
- 28:19Speaker 1: that stuff. I don't know if they getting money for
- 28:20Speaker 1: the popcorn, but I'm just saying, I wonder if that's
- 28:22Speaker 1: a new Seventy seven million is a lot of money
- 28:24Speaker 1: to make online, Dude, that's a new model they've been
- 28:27Speaker 1: talking about it. I think it's a it's an interesting
- 28:28Speaker 1: way to go to tell be what people are going
- 28:29Speaker 1: to start doing. I mean if because I don't you know,
- 28:32Speaker 1: Spike Lee said the other day he's not going to
- 28:34Speaker 1: the theater until there's a vaccine, and I was kind
- 28:36Speaker 1: of like, yeah, I think I might agree with that. Yeah,
- 28:39Speaker 1: it makes sense. I mean, my wife's not leaving the
- 28:42Speaker 1: house till there's a fucking vaccine, you know, And that's
- 28:46Speaker 1: your choice, right, It's yeah, sure, I have a lot
- 28:49Speaker 1: to do with that. Donald, your wife is your wife
- 28:53Speaker 1: more hardcore than you about this? Because Donald's definitely more
- 28:55Speaker 1: hardcore than his wife. No, my wife is anxiety written
- 28:59Speaker 1: about everything. She is terrified not just that we're going
- 29:03Speaker 1: to get it, but that we're all going to die
- 29:05Speaker 1: from it when we get it. You know. Mind you
- 29:09Speaker 1: none of us have pre existing conditions. She has made
- 29:12Speaker 1: five hundred masks and donated them and given them the friends.
- 29:15Speaker 1: She is all over this, and I still can't leave
- 29:18Speaker 1: the house. Yeah, it's crazy. It's crazy. My wife doesn't
- 29:22Speaker 1: like me right now because I'm like, well, maybe it
- 29:24Speaker 1: started off like this. Maybe maybe in May, honey, maybe no,
- 29:30Speaker 1: maybe in May. Okay, Well we'll see about May. And
- 29:33Speaker 1: then May's come around and I'm like, okay, maybe June.
- 29:35Speaker 1: And she's like, June is here, motherfucker. Listen July. When
- 29:41Speaker 1: July comes around, I promise you, baby, we're gonna scope
- 29:45Speaker 1: out the situation and if it's all good, then we
- 29:48Speaker 1: can go outside. Well, Donald and I got invited to
- 29:51Speaker 1: go on Now there's this really popular YouTube show called
- 29:54Speaker 1: Good Mythical Morning and and it's it's a hugely successful show.
- 29:59Speaker 1: They do it in a normal time, to do it
- 30:01Speaker 1: every excuse me, every morning, and uh we got an
- 30:04Speaker 1: invite to do it at the end of July. And
- 30:06Speaker 1: I was like, I think, right, and you have to
- 30:09Speaker 1: go in person. They're not doing on on zoom And
- 30:12Speaker 1: I was like, I think And we were just talking
- 30:14Speaker 1: about this before the show, like and did July we
- 30:15Speaker 1: could probably do that, right, And we don't know I
- 30:17Speaker 1: mean we're both having the conversation, but in our heads
- 30:20Speaker 1: is like, are we going to be going to do
- 30:22Speaker 1: a talk show ended July? Is that seemed like are
- 30:24Speaker 1: we gonna wear masks? Like I don't understand how it's
- 30:26Speaker 1: gonna I'm a lot of talking face to face too.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I mean, you know, everybody's got an opinion. Mine is
- 30:33Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be okay. You know, at a
- 30:35Speaker 1: certain point, don't don't you have doesn't life have to
- 30:38Speaker 1: go on? I mean it does, and I know, but
- 30:41Speaker 1: I but I but but but choosing yeah, life will
- 30:43Speaker 1: go on, but choosing to go into like making choices
- 30:47Speaker 1: that are like I'm gonna go sit in a movie
- 30:48Speaker 1: theater with a bunch of people that might be coughing,
- 30:50Speaker 1: or I'm gonna go into a tight elevator or a restaurant.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I mean those choices. I don't know. I might we
- 30:55Speaker 1: might hold hold off on those. We gotta go to
- 30:58Speaker 1: a break because that's what we have to do, because
- 30:59Speaker 1: this is a real show that has breaks and ads
- 31:01Speaker 1: and ship Scott Fully, this isn't like bullshit show. This
- 31:04Speaker 1: is a show. No it's not. You guys have supporters, now, yeah,
- 31:07Speaker 1: we have and we have real fancy ones too, um
- 31:10Speaker 1: and here here's something, here's some of them. Are ever
- 31:24Speaker 1: do that? I that, I do that. I hold off
- 31:27Speaker 1: to see who's gonna do it. We're like that. The
- 31:32Speaker 1: shame you guys don't enjoy this because of the delay,
- 31:35Speaker 1: nothing we ever do is in sync. So we sometimes
- 31:37Speaker 1: asked Dan in post to make it seem like we
- 31:39Speaker 1: know how to sing at the same time, Can you
- 31:42Speaker 1: guys give me a minute to run and grab my notes?
- 31:45Speaker 1: And yeah, but don't run, don't don't take a deuce. Dude,
- 31:47Speaker 1: we got Scott Fully here. Scott Fully, I would never
- 31:52Speaker 1: deuce on your time. Okay, thank you. His minute is
- 31:55Speaker 1: the equivalent of him learning learning his lines on scrubs.
- 31:58Speaker 1: This is what happened, glad. You know we talked a
- 32:00Speaker 1: lot about this. Will you please say that when he
- 32:02Speaker 1: comes back or not learning his lines, I should say no,
- 32:06Speaker 1: he's gone away. He claims he's turned over a new leaf,
- 32:10Speaker 1: but I think that's just because he's worried that potential
- 32:13Speaker 1: directors and showrunners might be listening to the podcast and
- 32:16Speaker 1: won't hire him. So he has this whole thing where
- 32:19Speaker 1: he says that he's he's turned over a new leaf,
- 32:22Speaker 1: and now he learns his lines. Well, how it's a pandemic,
- 32:26Speaker 1: that's his new leaf. There's nothing to learn. I know.
- 32:28Speaker 1: He also said he quit weed, but I think that
- 32:30Speaker 1: I will ask him if that's if that's lasted. Why
- 32:34Speaker 1: is your wife's Instagram handle the mean Chick? She seems
- 32:37Speaker 1: like such a nice person, does she. Well, I don't
- 32:41Speaker 1: know where that well, but every time I've hung out
- 32:44Speaker 1: with her, she seems delightful. She is delightful her her.
- 32:47Speaker 1: She's Polish and her last name is Domin Chick or
- 32:50Speaker 1: Domean Chick, which sounds like the mean chick. So every
- 32:53Speaker 1: time someone has has a hard time pronouncing her name,
- 32:55Speaker 1: she just says it sounds like the mean chick. So
- 32:57Speaker 1: that's oh, I thought there. I thought it was like
- 32:59Speaker 1: a thing like, look, you might think I'm nice, but
- 33:02Speaker 1: I'm a bitch. No, no, no, she's she's an asshole.
- 33:05Speaker 1: But god, I love her. And she had a good
- 33:08Speaker 1: part on your show, too, didn't she. Yeah, I forgot.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Did she have a recurring or something? She had she
- 33:15Speaker 1: had a recurring role, And that was sort of one
- 33:16Speaker 1: of them. One of the caveats I had when I
- 33:19Speaker 1: was when I was talking about shooting this show in Prague.
- 33:23Speaker 1: You know. I was like, you guys want me to
- 33:24Speaker 1: move over to Prague for a year. And I got
- 33:27Speaker 1: a wife who's a working actress. I got three kids,
- 33:29Speaker 1: and I'm gonna put in school, like I can't ask
- 33:31Speaker 1: her to stop. And Bill was like, she could be
- 33:33Speaker 1: on the show. Yeah, you know whatever. Bill is a
- 33:35Speaker 1: good salesman. He's like, I just I just discovered who
- 33:38Speaker 1: our new recurring role is. Yeah, you know, but that
- 33:42Speaker 1: it was a It was a it was a smart
- 33:44Speaker 1: move on his part and and ours. Actually, you know,
- 33:46Speaker 1: shooting over in Prague was um obviously much better for
- 33:51Speaker 1: the budget. The tax breaks and the cost of doing
- 33:54Speaker 1: business over there a substantially lowers so and and just
- 33:57Speaker 1: the production value. You know, there's a shot in the pilot.
- 33:59Speaker 1: By the way, if you haven't seen the show, go
- 34:00Speaker 1: see it, even even if you just watch the pilot,
- 34:02Speaker 1: because you'll be be impressed by the scope of the
- 34:04Speaker 1: damn thing. I just couldn't. I thought it was a
- 34:07Speaker 1: pilot was really well done, and I was I was
- 34:09Speaker 1: gonna go direct one. I was sort of intimidated. I
- 34:11Speaker 1: was like, how many days you get to shoot these episodes?
- 34:14Speaker 1: Because it was just we were so excited to have
- 34:16Speaker 1: you over there. Man, we were so bummed when it
- 34:17Speaker 1: when it fell through. And I know you got a
- 34:19Speaker 1: big I got a big gig. I got a part
- 34:21Speaker 1: in a good role in a movie with Christopher Walkin
- 34:25Speaker 1: and my actor crush heart. Couldn't say no to that.
- 34:28Speaker 1: As much as I wanted to come to Prague and
- 34:30Speaker 1: Boss Scott foldy around well to save the show, and
- 34:35Speaker 1: I know she's that episode would have would have been
- 34:37Speaker 1: the thing. No, But I I can't wait to work
- 34:40Speaker 1: with you again because I think you're faksmastic Donald Scott.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You're so amazing in this episode. Man, Yeah, let's get
- 34:46Speaker 1: into the episode. Well, let's get the episode. Um. Yeah,
- 34:49Speaker 1: it's a very good episode. You know we Adam Burns
- 34:51Speaker 1: seen directed it, who directed our pilot. We've told you
- 34:53Speaker 1: and he's a very very funny talented guy, Eric, very
- 34:58Speaker 1: funny writer. I played tennis with him after this episode.
- 35:02Speaker 1: You're a good tennis player. Isn't that a bit of
- 35:04Speaker 1: trivia about you? That is a bit of trivia about me.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I'm I can hold my own. I'm not great, but
- 35:08Speaker 1: I can hold my own. That's That's what people who
- 35:11Speaker 1: are really good. Say, to be honest, you're really good.
- 35:13Speaker 1: I think can you beat Bill? Uh No, yeah, Bill
- 35:16Speaker 1: is really good. Bill's really good, although although these days
- 35:19Speaker 1: I don't know he's gotten older. Bill. Um, you know,
- 35:22Speaker 1: Bill and I, uh, we don't we all play together
- 35:24Speaker 1: because it's just not fun for for either one of us.
- 35:26Speaker 1: But we often hit. Um, we've we've we've we've vacationed
- 35:31Speaker 1: together and we would like each hit with a pro
- 35:33Speaker 1: on separate courts because I'm yeah, I just can just
- 35:35Speaker 1: get by. But I love it. And Bill's is, like,
- 35:38Speaker 1: you know, played college, is really good. Yeah, but he
- 35:41Speaker 1: would play these young pros and try his ass off too,
- 35:45Speaker 1: but he would keep up with them. I mean, you
- 35:46Speaker 1: know it was it was he was impressive. Yeah, No,
- 35:49Speaker 1: he's he's good. He and I have gone out to
- 35:50Speaker 1: hit a few times, and we have a tennis program
- 35:53Speaker 1: in Christian, uh Catholic who was a pro for a
- 35:56Speaker 1: while and sort of hits with a bunch of people
- 35:58Speaker 1: around town, and we've play with him. But Bill's very
- 36:01Speaker 1: talented as by the way, getting back to the episode,
- 36:04Speaker 1: was mister Weinberg, he's a very good tennis player. Uh,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I got to say that what I want to start
- 36:09Speaker 1: to say, is that you know, we're watching these episodes, Scott,
- 36:11Speaker 1: and they're all some of them are great and some
- 36:13Speaker 1: of them are just okay. As as happens when you
- 36:16Speaker 1: make one hundred and eighty two episodes of something. Sure,
- 36:18Speaker 1: I have to say this one is particularly really fucking
- 36:21Speaker 1: funny one quite a few times a bunch. Not only
- 36:26Speaker 1: do we have Scott's hole and Sarah's ark, which is hilarious,
- 36:29Speaker 1: but the janitor fucking with me and telling all my
- 36:32Speaker 1: patients to get surgery. It's so funny. And everybody talk
- 36:38Speaker 1: to everybody this episode he talks to ever everybody. Bill,
- 36:43Speaker 1: you know, as you know, Bill has held on to this, uh,
- 36:47Speaker 1: this lure that in season one the janitor only spoke
- 36:50Speaker 1: to JD. And and if he was debating whether as
- 36:54Speaker 1: we went forward, if if the Janitor would be just
- 36:56Speaker 1: be a figure of JD's imagination. I think this is
- 36:58Speaker 1: the Yeah, I think episode episode one twenty he must
- 37:02Speaker 1: have been like fucking because the janitors talks everybody. The
- 37:05Speaker 1: Janitor is real, He's given advice, He's given medical advice
- 37:08Speaker 1: to people. Yeah, that was really funny. Um, let's get
- 37:12Speaker 1: into it. I'm your biach very funny. Yeah, this was
- 37:17Speaker 1: this is the beginning, well not the beginning of Scrubs
- 37:20Speaker 1: being a musical, because we had Judy and Sam sing together. Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 1: but this is the beginning of big product musical productions.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Though in Scrub we're all dancing in the hallway, Yeah,
- 37:29Speaker 1: singing on a on a made up fire escape. Yeah.
- 37:34Speaker 1: This was our homage to West Side Story, and we
- 37:36Speaker 1: clearly didn't have the rights because we're very clearly tiptoeing
- 37:38Speaker 1: around it being a West Side Story spoof. But it
- 37:41Speaker 1: is a West Side Story spoof. I loved it. I
- 37:44Speaker 1: love the musical theater references. I thought, you know, I
- 37:46Speaker 1: was I was sitting there watching this trying to think
- 37:48Speaker 1: of the sort of the theme, and you know, they
- 37:50Speaker 1: talk about competition, but but whether it's whether it's you,
- 37:54Speaker 1: uh j D and Turk or Cox and kelso like
- 37:58Speaker 1: it's it's not necessarily competition, but there's a power struggle
- 38:01Speaker 1: happening here with all these characters, which was really interesting
- 38:04Speaker 1: to watch. And I thought the you know, we're not
- 38:06Speaker 1: obviously not there yet, but I thought the resolution, especially
- 38:09Speaker 1: when it came to you guys, the storyline, was a
- 38:11Speaker 1: great one. Yeah. Yeah, it is about it's about I
- 38:14Speaker 1: guess that's the theme in in in the two main story,
- 38:18Speaker 1: I mean not the two main because you entier on one.
- 38:20Speaker 1: We the Cox Kelso one and the me Donald one
- 38:22Speaker 1: is competing with your peers. And you're right, it is
- 38:26Speaker 1: the first time we get into all these games that
- 38:28Speaker 1: Donald and I would play over the years. Uh you
- 38:30Speaker 1: these stupid, these stupid little challenges. You know, what was
- 38:34Speaker 1: the one with hide, the the salteine and all the
- 38:38Speaker 1: many things, But this was the first to tower finger.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Yeah yeah. And they're all very They're all named in
- 38:45Speaker 1: a very Bill Lawrence way, you know, like steak is
- 38:48Speaker 1: just called steaks like it's just but even what Cox
- 38:53Speaker 1: calls the near coffee nurse like it's it's so simple
- 38:56Speaker 1: the way Bill names things. And it's hilarious, by the way,
- 38:58Speaker 1: a little bit of trivia coffee nurse. I don't know
- 39:00Speaker 1: if you know this is uh Matt Tarsus's beautiful wife,
- 39:04Speaker 1: Katie Tarsus. Matt didn't know Matt Tarsas. Scott fully, yeah,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I know Matt, but I didn't know that was his wife.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Matt Tarsus is was one of our great writers on Scrubs,
- 39:14Speaker 1: and he created along with me our our ABC show
- 39:18Speaker 1: that didn't work Alex Hank and uh, he's a great
- 39:21Speaker 1: human being and has a beautiful wife. And I stopped
- 39:24Speaker 1: and I was like, that's Katie tarsus Um playing a
- 39:28Speaker 1: coffee nurse. She was great. And I texted and I said,
- 39:32Speaker 1: your wife is so beautiful in this episode and he
- 39:34Speaker 1: said yes, and I said, I'm not Okay, that's enough.
- 39:43Speaker 1: What do you got done? You got anything else? This
- 39:47Speaker 1: dude is fuck. What's the name of the gentleman who
- 39:50Speaker 1: played miss Fred Stoller? Is his name? So good? This guy.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, if you are a director or
- 39:57Speaker 1: a filmmaker or a showrunner, you need to hire this
- 39:59Speaker 1: guy because every sentence he said, I laughed out loud,
- 40:03Speaker 1: out loud. I remember laughing when we were making the
- 40:06Speaker 1: show at him doing this. The lines and the chicken
- 40:10Speaker 1: that he hit had me going for days. He takes
- 40:13Speaker 1: the funniest thing, He takes the funniest stutter, and I
- 40:16Speaker 1: tried to write it down because the word what he's
- 40:18Speaker 1: trying to say is no, you said chicken, But when
- 40:20Speaker 1: it comes out is he goes, no, you chicken, And like,
- 40:25Speaker 1: I don't know, you can't write that in a script
- 40:27Speaker 1: that's just an actor coming up with something funny. It
- 40:29Speaker 1: was hilarious. He's been around for years. He's that character
- 40:32Speaker 1: actor guy who just pops up and he slays every
- 40:35Speaker 1: time you see him. He's got such a dry sense
- 40:38Speaker 1: of humor that it is innately watchable. There is this
- 40:41Speaker 1: there's this type of really funny actor. They're often called
- 40:44Speaker 1: character actors that like Fred that can that and Bill
- 40:48Speaker 1: would hire lots of them on the show over years,
- 40:51Speaker 1: and he jokingly would call him his assassins. And Bob
- 40:54Speaker 1: Flendennon is another one. And they would just come on
- 40:56Speaker 1: and they would have like a few lines, but everything
- 40:58Speaker 1: they said was funny. And uh and I just want
- 41:02Speaker 1: to say to Fred and anyone who knows Fred, every
- 41:05Speaker 1: single thing you said on this episode made us laugh. Yeah,
- 41:08Speaker 1: he came back to later on, not you know, seasons later. Actually,
- 41:13Speaker 1: I thought he would be somebody who would come back
- 41:15Speaker 1: into the hospital over and over again. I think, yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 1: when this was, when this episode was done, I remember
- 41:19Speaker 1: telling Bill like, you gotta have that guy back, you
- 41:21Speaker 1: gotta have him. Yeah, he should be a regular. He's hilarious.
- 41:24Speaker 1: He was really funny. Yeah, I agree on the treadmill yeah,
- 41:29Speaker 1: Oh god, one, you look great. You got that young
- 41:33Speaker 1: you got that young body where the shoulders haven't really
- 41:35Speaker 1: caught up yet, you know what i mean, where they're
- 41:40Speaker 1: like huge, your shoulders are like so high and everything.
- 41:43Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about. When you're like a baby,
- 41:44Speaker 1: I'm talking about you start growing lats and ship anyway, Uh,
- 41:48Speaker 1: then making that the fall was that you or was
- 41:52Speaker 1: that the same question asking you to do it? The
- 41:54Speaker 1: fall was me? Um? I was. I was terrified about this.
- 41:58Speaker 1: This was the scene in the script that have me
- 42:00Speaker 1: the most nervous, and for ridiculous reasons, Like there is
- 42:04Speaker 1: something about watching people run on screen that you can
- 42:09Speaker 1: look the gate your gate. You can look like an idiot,
- 42:12Speaker 1: or you can look okay. You know, like if you'
- 42:14Speaker 1: you see people run on screen, you're like, that's a
- 42:16Speaker 1: weird run and it's quick and easy to judge. So
- 42:20Speaker 1: I was very nervous about that. But I also felt
- 42:23Speaker 1: that the here far be it from me to be
- 42:26Speaker 1: a writer, but I felt that the scene needed like
- 42:29Speaker 1: a button at the end. It didn't. It didn't come
- 42:31Speaker 1: together quite right. And I remember the first time I
- 42:35Speaker 1: thought about doing it, and in the scene, I just
- 42:37Speaker 1: halfway through the first take, I decided to do it,
- 42:39Speaker 1: and everyone flipped out like we didn't even like, They're like,
- 42:42Speaker 1: are you okay? Oh my god, what happened? Guys? Can
- 42:44Speaker 1: we get a medic in here sometime? I was like, no, no, no, no, no,
- 42:46Speaker 1: it was a bit. It was a bit. Guy. That's
- 42:48Speaker 1: pretty courageous of you to do a unscheduled almost pratfall
- 42:52Speaker 1: on a treadmill running. That's advanced, Scott, thank you, my friend. Well,
- 42:56Speaker 1: I pride myself on physical comedy, although I never get
- 42:59Speaker 1: to do it my wife aside from at home and
- 43:01Speaker 1: when my wife is sick of it. Um, but it was.
- 43:03Speaker 1: It was Unfortunately they liked it after they calmed down
- 43:08Speaker 1: and I had to do it, you know, seven more times, right, Well,
- 43:11Speaker 1: good thing you survived. I liked it because you were
- 43:14Speaker 1: such a good ying yang for for for Sarah, because
- 43:18Speaker 1: you're both sort of goofy and nervous and neurotic and uh,
- 43:23Speaker 1: and it was just so she's doing all this ridiculous
- 43:26Speaker 1: stuff and you're seemingly holding it together and then you
- 43:29Speaker 1: she looks away and you trip on the treadmill. I
- 43:31Speaker 1: thought that was really funny. Thanks man, It was you know,
- 43:34Speaker 1: finding it's always a hard thing when you first come
- 43:37Speaker 1: onto a show, even even though you guys were in
- 43:38Speaker 1: your first season. News was the twentieth episode, and so
- 43:41Speaker 1: to try to establish a character amongst all these other
- 43:44Speaker 1: characters is really hard thing to do. And and Sarah
- 43:46Speaker 1: and I talked about it a bit, and uh, you know,
- 43:49Speaker 1: I think what we came up with her sean and
- 43:52Speaker 1: worked ultimately, you know, he got a little more confident
- 43:55Speaker 1: as this the show went on, and his episodes got there.
- 43:58Speaker 1: But but it was fun play the sort of nervous, neurotic, uh,
- 44:03Speaker 1: somewhat insecure. Um, kid, it was really in interesting. Yeah, yeah,
- 44:07Speaker 1: your your your character arc throughout the show is It's
- 44:10Speaker 1: really it's very interesting because you do start off, you
- 44:13Speaker 1: and Sarah are pretty much the same character. You're just
- 44:15Speaker 1: a male version of her. And then all of a
- 44:17Speaker 1: sudden you developed this confidence, right, and then you lose
- 44:21Speaker 1: this confidence all of a sudden when she breaks up
- 44:23Speaker 1: with you out of nowhere, you know, when you grow
- 44:26Speaker 1: the beard and and he forlornly rides a dolphin. They
- 44:32Speaker 1: had me doing some strange things, which I hope we
- 44:34Speaker 1: get to talk about in future episodes. Look where I
- 44:36Speaker 1: am inviting myself over. No, you knows, Scott, you are
- 44:42Speaker 1: so good for our ratings that we are going to
- 44:45Speaker 1: have you back. Oh, I hope you'll come back on
- 44:47Speaker 1: episodes you have nothing to do with. I would love
- 44:50Speaker 1: to just to make fun of people. Know we're already
- 44:53Speaker 1: we're you're we're already inviting you back because we have
- 44:55Speaker 1: to talk about SeaWorld. Uh and uh oh yeah. I
- 44:59Speaker 1: would like to say that I know longer support sea World,
- 45:01Speaker 1: but at the time we were happy to go to
- 45:02Speaker 1: the Sea World. I remember being so pissed off because
- 45:05Speaker 1: I couldn't go. None of my scenes were at sea World. Straight.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Let me get this straight. Y'all are all going to
- 45:11Speaker 1: San Diego to hang out for a night in San
- 45:14Speaker 1: Diego and ride dolphins and I gotta stay back at
- 45:17Speaker 1: the my fucking hospital. I was so pissed it. But
- 45:21Speaker 1: this was all before we all saw the documentary Blackfish
- 45:24Speaker 1: and U yes, and now we don't. We don't go
- 45:26Speaker 1: there anymore, And now we we we we encourage people
- 45:29Speaker 1: to not go there anymore. But before we were all U,
- 45:33Speaker 1: before we knew, before we knew, before we were animal
- 45:36Speaker 1: woke and Scott, you you did get to forlornly ride
- 45:40Speaker 1: a dolphin, which is one of the coolest things anyone
- 45:41Speaker 1: could ever do in their career. The things that I
- 45:44Speaker 1: got to do on this show were still some of
- 45:48Speaker 1: the highlights of my career. I mean, between writing on
- 45:51Speaker 1: the dolphin, uh, doing this Betty the seal bit. I
- 45:55Speaker 1: don't know if you remember this, but I had like
- 45:57Speaker 1: a phone call with Sarah and I turned my head
- 45:59Speaker 1: and the seal turns his head towards me, and I
- 46:01Speaker 1: look away like it sticks its tongue out of me. Yeah.
- 46:04Speaker 1: I got to be like a like damn close to
- 46:06Speaker 1: a killer whale and a beluga whale, and it was
- 46:09Speaker 1: a It was a really amazing experience and I'll never
- 46:11Speaker 1: forget it. I think, how sad that whale was, Scott
- 46:13Speaker 1: while you were acting with it. I had no idea
- 46:16Speaker 1: it didn't let h oh, you're gonna get me up
- 46:22Speaker 1: for that one, Scott's I had no idea. I did
- 46:28Speaker 1: not know. It didn't say a damn thing. I would
- 46:31Speaker 1: have been I would have had his Listen, we're we're
- 46:33Speaker 1: trying to buy it back with some carma now by
- 46:35Speaker 1: saying don't support it any longer. So there you go.
- 46:38Speaker 1: There you go. Boy. All right, let's talk about let's
- 46:41Speaker 1: talk about when he goes I love when he goes, um,
- 46:45Speaker 1: what are you eight eleven with? With with Hoffner, I go,
- 46:49Speaker 1: he goes, what are you serving for dinner? Then I
- 46:50Speaker 1: and I go, That's that's not really my area. He goes,
- 46:53Speaker 1: I'd like chicken. That guy was great here. I'd like
- 47:00Speaker 1: just chicken, chicken, chicken. So I was, yeah, go ahead.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I don't know where. I don't know where in the
- 47:07Speaker 1: show that is. But I want to talk for a
- 47:09Speaker 1: second about YouTube. Singing on the fire escape, Yeah, yeah,
- 47:14Speaker 1: which was a I loved it, and I love the
- 47:17Speaker 1: musical theater references and and those are something that UH
- 47:20Speaker 1: find a home throughout the life of this television show. Yeah.
- 47:24Speaker 1: But the smile that you had on your face, Zach,
- 47:27Speaker 1: that you were unable to hide, made me rewind it
- 47:31Speaker 1: two or three times to be like, is he just
- 47:33Speaker 1: smiling because he's singing or Scot No, no, no, he
- 47:36Speaker 1: can't hold back his laughter. Scott, I had a Phantom
- 47:38Speaker 1: of the opera beach towel hung on my wall as
- 47:40Speaker 1: a child. I'm very aware this was me living my
- 47:44Speaker 1: best life. It was someone your Seinfeld moment, someone your
- 47:48Speaker 1: Seinfeld moment, unable to hide your smile. Someone was paying
- 47:52Speaker 1: me well to hold Donald and sing musical theater to him.
- 47:56Speaker 1: I was like, how could life get better than this?
- 47:58Speaker 1: It was fantastic and I appreciated you not being able
- 48:02Speaker 1: to contain your life show getting a getting a lead
- 48:04Speaker 1: in a TV show was was enough. Now you're letting
- 48:08Speaker 1: me sing a love song to Donald on a fire escape.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Come on? It was great. And by the way, the
- 48:14Speaker 1: way you guys did the dancing in the hallway, everybody
- 48:18Speaker 1: looked professional, like well they were everyone well obviously everyone
- 48:23Speaker 1: that wasn't a lead was a dancer. And and I'm
- 48:26Speaker 1: gonna say this was the best I've ever seen Sarah dance.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Also to me too, Sarah can dance, Sarah, she can't sing,
- 48:32Speaker 1: but she can dance. Dude. She was on fire and
- 48:34Speaker 1: this ship, Dude, like I've seen Sarah dance, and Sarah
- 48:38Speaker 1: dance is like, you know, Sarah dance. I'm not gonna
- 48:40Speaker 1: tells she dances, well, she knows her. She has her
- 48:45Speaker 1: little thing she does, which is adorable. But she this
- 48:48Speaker 1: she was doing like full on you know, Broadway choreography. Yeah, dude,
- 48:53Speaker 1: but but Rob Masio, Rob Maschio. Did you know I
- 49:00Speaker 1: wonder if Rob Mashio ever did in musical theater. I
- 49:02Speaker 1: bet he did. I bet he did. We should have
- 49:04Speaker 1: a section where we go to Rob. This is a
- 49:06Speaker 1: Bill Larns question. No, we should go to Rob and
- 49:08Speaker 1: now we go to Rob. No, he's like a correspondent Rob. Yeah,
- 49:13Speaker 1: going to Rob live. Rob is a he's very successful realtor.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Now at the beach, Scott, I don't know if you
- 49:18Speaker 1: know that, sir. When you're ready to buy your beach house,
- 49:20Speaker 1: you better use Rob Maschio. I'm not going to be
- 49:23Speaker 1: ready to buy my beach house for a while, but
- 49:25Speaker 1: I'll use him when I do. Yes, I encourage anyone.
- 49:28Speaker 1: We always like to give Rob shout outs. You can
- 49:30Speaker 1: get Rob on Cameo and you can pay him a
- 49:33Speaker 1: nominal fee to send you a video where he high
- 49:35Speaker 1: fives your friends. So go on Cameo and hire Rob Maschio.
- 49:38Speaker 1: And of course, if you're looking for real estate on
- 49:40Speaker 1: the West side of Los Angeles, we encourage you to
- 49:44Speaker 1: hire him. I'd like to go on Cameo and have
- 49:46Speaker 1: him and pay him whatever it costs just to watch
- 49:48Speaker 1: him run line. By the way, Scott, I'm gonna say
- 49:56Speaker 1: I don't know what's your birthday. I'm gonna send you
- 49:58Speaker 1: a cameo from Rob. Oh that's great, July fifteenth. It's coming. Oh,
- 50:02Speaker 1: it's coming. Oh yeah, yeah yeah. I hope Rob will
- 50:05Speaker 1: give it to me for free, but if not, I'm
- 50:06Speaker 1: willing no, no, no, came Okay, I'm gonna donald. Don't
- 50:12Speaker 1: you think we should hire Rob to get send Scott
- 50:14Speaker 1: Folly a high five cameo? I think that would be
- 50:16Speaker 1: the best thing ever. And if you have to share
- 50:18Speaker 1: it too, you know you can get Really, my brother
- 50:20Speaker 1: loves baseball more than anything, and they have like old
- 50:23Speaker 1: school you know, they have sports players. Is that what
- 50:26Speaker 1: you call them? Sports sports players? People? Sure, athletes? Yea,
- 50:29Speaker 1: they have athletes at sports players. They have famous sports
- 50:35Speaker 1: players and uh and guys, but some of them are like,
- 50:43Speaker 1: I don't know if you like Lenny dikestrot enough. You've
- 50:44Speaker 1: heard Lenny extra Noward Stern lately, but he's you know,
- 50:47Speaker 1: he's he's gotten a little whacky. And I was thinking
- 50:49Speaker 1: about getting Lenny Dikester from my brother to like send
- 50:51Speaker 1: him a message. Are you guys on the YouTube cameo?
- 50:54Speaker 1: I'm not on there, but I I occasionally scroll it
- 50:57Speaker 1: because there's some people that I think would be very
- 51:00Speaker 1: funny to hire for other people. Yeah, um and uh,
- 51:04Speaker 1: and so I've I've thought about it. But like, like
- 51:07Speaker 1: I saw Olivia Wilde I follow on Instagram and I'm
- 51:09Speaker 1: friends with her, and she she loved that that documentary Cheer.
- 51:12Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw Cheer, Yes, I loved it.
- 51:14Speaker 1: But one of her friends hired all the kids, all
- 51:17Speaker 1: the kids from Cheer are on there, hired every single
- 51:19Speaker 1: one of them to send her birthday messages and so
- 51:22Speaker 1: for her, her feed on her birthday was all the
- 51:24Speaker 1: kids from Cheers sending her birthday messages. I thought that
- 51:26Speaker 1: was that's so cool. That's a great idea. So there
- 51:29Speaker 1: you go. You can gift. It's a great gift idea.
- 51:31Speaker 1: There you go. I'm giving I'm giving Cameo a shout out,
- 51:33Speaker 1: although Donald and I are not on there. Um, have
- 51:35Speaker 1: you guys, have you guys ever met anyone that's as
- 51:38Speaker 1: competitive as these guys are on this show that just
- 51:41Speaker 1: you know, uh, you are competive. You think I'm competitive? No,
- 51:46Speaker 1: not in life, but sports wise you are when it
- 51:48Speaker 1: when it comes to when you were playing Gostable back
- 51:50Speaker 1: in the day, when it comes to playing sports against anyone, absolutely,
- 51:53Speaker 1: regardless of what it is, I want to win, you're
- 51:55Speaker 1: absolutely run away. I don't know if I turned anybody
- 51:57Speaker 1: in life that's like that, other than Bill Lawrence, I
- 51:59Speaker 1: was gonna say, but other than Bill Lawrence. Bill is
- 52:01Speaker 1: the most competitive person I know in real life. Where
- 52:04Speaker 1: you where it's like, you can't walk, don't walk faster
- 52:07Speaker 1: than him. Yeah, he's gonna think it's a race. Yeah.
- 52:10Speaker 1: This is probably why it's in the script, because we
- 52:14Speaker 1: have I have a funny Bill Lawrence walking story. We
- 52:16Speaker 1: were in um We took a trip from Prague when
- 52:18Speaker 1: we were shooting Whiskey Cavalier over to Amsterdam. And if
- 52:20Speaker 1: you guys have never been there, it's a huge bicycle culture, right,
- 52:24Speaker 1: Everyone rides bikes around. So we're walking down the sidewalks
- 52:27Speaker 1: and wherever you wherever you are, you're inundated with these
- 52:31Speaker 1: bicycle bells ringing constantly telling you to get out of
- 52:34Speaker 1: the way, and you don't know where they're coming from,
- 52:36Speaker 1: and you're looking behind you and you're always stepping off
- 52:39Speaker 1: trying to get out of the way. And we were
- 52:41Speaker 1: walking down and there was nobody around us. It had
- 52:43Speaker 1: to be two in the morning. We've just seen a
- 52:46Speaker 1: raiding concert in Amsterdam gets a shout out every show episode,
- 52:51Speaker 1: every episode, even the guests shout out. My wife was
- 52:55Speaker 1: he you know, Bill was like, we're gonna go flat
- 52:56Speaker 1: Amsterdam and go see him. And he does this song
- 52:58Speaker 1: and my wife was like, oh my god, he has
- 53:00Speaker 1: to sing only you. So of course in the middle
- 53:01Speaker 1: of his thing, he's like and for Marika, only you,
- 53:06Speaker 1: and she's like tearing up. I'm like, I think he's
- 53:08Speaker 1: making fun of you. Baby, he doesn't want to sing
- 53:09Speaker 1: the song. Um. But we're walking back to the hotel
- 53:13Speaker 1: and there's you know, it's dead, it's two in the morning,
- 53:16Speaker 1: and they are all these bikes parked along. Nobody's riding bikes,
- 53:19Speaker 1: but they're all sort of chained up along the sidewalk
- 53:22Speaker 1: and we're walking. Bill's a couple uh steps ahead of
- 53:25Speaker 1: me and I ring one of these locked up bikes bells.
- 53:29Speaker 1: He damn near went to his knees. He was so afraid.
- 53:31Speaker 1: He had such a PTSD. I've never seen Bill like,
- 53:35Speaker 1: oh god, stuff like he I don't think we'll ever
- 53:37Speaker 1: go back to Amsterdam, because, um, all right, we want
- 53:41Speaker 1: to Amsterdam together. Yeah, Donald and I went to Amstam together.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Oh that was dangerous. Yeah, careful. I don't know if
- 53:48Speaker 1: we can tell any of those stories. I don't think
- 53:50Speaker 1: we can. I know they want to hear it. We
- 53:52Speaker 1: had some good time. Did you guys have a good
- 53:55Speaker 1: time in Amsterdam? It was the best, the best. Yeah,
- 54:00Speaker 1: I mean it wasn't Yeah, it wasn't like that kind
- 54:02Speaker 1: of good time because we were sorry. I was with
- 54:04Speaker 1: work people. I don't know, but it was still that
- 54:07Speaker 1: kind of good time. Tried God's let Us and it
- 54:10Speaker 1: was delicious. Oh Jesus, they got you didn't have one
- 54:13Speaker 1: of those what are those? What? This is before God
- 54:15Speaker 1: let us? This is before God's let Us was legal
- 54:17Speaker 1: in California. We were really Yeah, they really like it
- 54:21Speaker 1: over there, you know. Now we had it was a
- 54:23Speaker 1: moon pie or there's something like that over there that
- 54:25Speaker 1: you eat and it just wrecks you. Um. Oh I wish,
- 54:29Speaker 1: I mean, I wish I would have known enough. No,
- 54:33Speaker 1: this is a real show. Now, We're not just two
- 54:35Speaker 1: guys doing this out of their closets. We have to
- 54:37Speaker 1: go to advertisers. Will be right, We'll be right back.
- 54:48Speaker 1: We're back. I'm looking at I'm looking at both Scott
- 54:50Speaker 1: Fully and Donald Fhazon in their closets. Scott's asked to
- 54:53Speaker 1: continually wave his arm to make his lights go on.
- 54:56Speaker 1: I wish we were recording the video of this because
- 54:58Speaker 1: it would be the l We'll start putting them out.
- 55:01Speaker 1: We'll start putting one. Ye, all right, bring them in,
- 55:05Speaker 1: Joel and h and Dan adjust the mic for Donald's
- 55:08Speaker 1: Oprah introduction because you know it can get loud. Donald,
- 55:12Speaker 1: please adjust your mic for the Okay, I'll back up
- 55:15Speaker 1: a little bit. It's okay. Worried about it? No, he's ready.
- 55:19Speaker 1: He's a professional. Donald. Here comes Jenny. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 55:22Speaker 1: give it up for Jenny Paulston. I think it's Puleston.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Is it Puleston? Jenny, Yes, that's correct, that's what I said. Hi, Jenny,
- 55:37Speaker 1: Welcome to Fake Doctor's Real Friends. You picked a very
- 55:39Speaker 1: good day to be on because we have a very
- 55:42Speaker 1: funny and handsome guest named Scott Foley. You might know
- 55:45Speaker 1: him from the show's scandal Felicity, Whiskey, Foxtrot, scrubs, whiskey, cavalier, Cavalier. Hi, Jenny, Sorry, Scott,
- 55:58Speaker 1: brutal Scott. Scott, do not flirt with Jenny. Okay, this
- 56:02Speaker 1: is She's there, got all the flags behind her. She
- 56:04Speaker 1: looks fantastic. Jenny, Where where are you calling in from? So?
- 56:08Speaker 1: I live in Canberra, Australia. Canberra is the capital city
- 56:11Speaker 1: of my fine country on the West coast. Yes, it is, Scott,
- 56:16Speaker 1: showing off that he knows it's on the West Coast.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I lived in Australia, Jenny, I know what I'm talking about.
- 56:21Speaker 1: Wait when did you live in Australia as a kid?
- 56:24Speaker 1: I lived in Sydney for four years and snives Sydney. Wow.
- 56:29Speaker 1: Is it near Perth? No? Okay jesus, but it's near Melbourne. No, well,
- 56:36Speaker 1: Sydney near Melbourne closer, but no, it's on the West
- 56:39Speaker 1: coast of Australia. This is so embarrassing to I want
- 56:42Speaker 1: I want everyone to know that the American public school
- 56:44Speaker 1: system spends very little time on geography. I think it
- 56:47Speaker 1: was like two weeks in seventh grade or Australia. Yes, yes, um, Jenny,
- 56:54Speaker 1: thank you for coming on the show. Do you have
- 56:56Speaker 1: a question for any of us? You can ask us anything,
- 56:59Speaker 1: ask us any thing. Yeah. I just wanted to say
- 57:02Speaker 1: I m started watching your show when I was in
- 57:05Speaker 1: my early twenties, um, like you guys were, and it
- 57:09Speaker 1: really resonated with me. Then I just started my career.
- 57:13Speaker 1: I had a mentor um, you know, learning to do
- 57:16Speaker 1: things on your own without a safety net. And then
- 57:18Speaker 1: I watched the series again a few years later when
- 57:21Speaker 1: I had my children and they were babies and I
- 57:23Speaker 1: was up in the night, I put it on, uh,
- 57:25Speaker 1: and certain episodes resonated in a different way because I
- 57:29Speaker 1: was a parent and researched every school holidays and there's
- 57:34Speaker 1: something new that pops up that's, um, you know, based
- 57:38Speaker 1: on an experience that I've just had. It just makes
- 57:41Speaker 1: me think of, you know, something different. So I just
- 57:43Speaker 1: wanted to know, with your experience of the last twenty years,
- 57:48Speaker 1: what advice would you give to your younger selves? Now?
- 57:53Speaker 1: Oh man, you mean I mean as real people are
- 57:55Speaker 1: our characters? Yeah, no, oh real people. That's a really
- 57:59Speaker 1: wild make it. While while making the show, I wish
- 58:02Speaker 1: I could have been more present, you know what I mean.
- 58:04Speaker 1: I hate to jump in front of you, Scott, but
- 58:05Speaker 1: I gotta get to this right away. Yeah, I was
- 58:10Speaker 1: so uh not there. Let's say when we were making that,
- 58:14Speaker 1: I was very much worried about being out and about
- 58:18Speaker 1: I was more interested in what came with what came
- 58:23Speaker 1: after work than what came with work back when we
- 58:26Speaker 1: were making scrubs, And I wish I could have been
- 58:29Speaker 1: more present at when it came to doing my job
- 58:33Speaker 1: back then. That's the one thing that I look back
- 58:35Speaker 1: and say, you know what, I know, I know I
- 58:37Speaker 1: had fun, and I know I enjoyed myself. I wish
- 58:40Speaker 1: I could have experienced all of that while making it. Yeah,
- 58:43Speaker 1: my actually is similar in a sense that you know,
- 58:46Speaker 1: I think we took it for granted that this would
- 58:48Speaker 1: happen all the time. That is to say that you know,
- 58:51Speaker 1: we've spoken this on other podcasts before, that these really
- 58:54Speaker 1: special friendships would would be on every job we did.
- 58:58Speaker 1: And and I think, and we've discussed before. You know
- 59:03Speaker 1: how we've all gone on and done these other jobs,
- 59:05Speaker 1: and some some are successful, some are not, but still
- 59:09Speaker 1: to this day, the bond that we all had that
- 59:12Speaker 1: comes across on the screen. I think it's the reason
- 59:14Speaker 1: people really One of the reasons, of course, the writing
- 59:17Speaker 1: first and foremost, but another reason was that the love
- 59:21Speaker 1: that you see between these characters was real. It was
- 59:24Speaker 1: it was you. We were watching people who genuinely cared
- 59:28Speaker 1: as much about each other in real life as as
- 59:31Speaker 1: they did as the characters did on screen. So I
- 59:33Speaker 1: think that I think I took that for granted. I
- 59:36Speaker 1: was a young actor. This is my first big job,
- 59:39Speaker 1: and and I thought, Oh, this is what it's always
- 59:42Speaker 1: like to be on a set. Everyone loves each other,
- 59:44Speaker 1: everyone wants to hang out on weekends even after we've
- 59:46Speaker 1: worked all these days, and and oh my god, the
- 59:48Speaker 1: scripts are always hilarious. And it took so many years
- 59:52Speaker 1: to be like, oh no, this is a diamond and
- 59:54Speaker 1: the rough. Not only the writing staff that Bill assembled
- 59:58Speaker 1: was just the dream team. I mean they've all gone
- 59:59Speaker 1: off to be hugely successful on their own right, but
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: but also just the bond that that the seven main
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: characters of Us had um was was something I haven't
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: really ever seen again, whether I'm an actor or a director.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: It's just it was just so rare. So that's what
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: I think too. It's a similar answer to Donald. Now,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Scott's been on three and in my opinion, three very
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: successful shows. I'm interested to hear how he might not.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: He might not have an answer related to ours, those
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: not to ours, but yeah, but I'm interested in hearing
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: if it was like that for each one of those successes,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like Felicity, You know, I think,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: just directly answering your question, I think I for me
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: looking back, if I had to do it again, I
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: would I would try to relax. I think I was
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: holding on really tight. It was very important to me.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't go to college. I didn't want
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: to do anything else. This was my only shot. Really,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Like if I wasn't going to be a working actor,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I'm be digging holes. You know, I don't know what
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: else I'd do. So I was. I was really uptight
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: and nervous about making sure I got it right and
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: really focused on work. And I think, I, uh, if
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I had to do it again, I'd take a breather
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: and um be more like Donald but not that far.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: But you know what I mean, Like we were. I
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: was young and wanted to be successful and was working
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: towards a goal. But um, you know, at a certain
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: point you got to sort of stop and smell the
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: flowers too. Did you guys all get along on scandal?
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: We did? You know? I was hoping that I was
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: hoping to get some clickbait going here, Scott no man
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I've been I was looking for ever since I'd done Scrubs.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: I was looking for a show that had a similar vibe,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: a similar friendship, not just in front of the camera,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: but behind it. And I found it on Scandal and
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: we still keep in touch. I get text where I
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: have a group group text chain. I get something multiple
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: things daily. Uh, we vacation together? Could I join that text? Scott,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: if you have something to offer, I'd love I Do
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: you know I have a long history with Tony Goldman
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: and uh, I know you do, yes, And I'm I
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: love that man a lot. And he directed a movie
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: I was in called The Last Kiss, and we've stayed
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: friendly over the years, and I just think he's a
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: very very special human being. I wish he was the
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: real Press. I wish he was the real President. I
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: think we all wish someone else was the real president
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: right now. Sorry, Jenny, that's that's where you're getting. You
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: don't have to bring an Australian into our political situation, Jenny,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Do you have another question for any of us? Yes?
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I do, um because I want to look up for
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: my fellow Australians. I just want to ask, why do
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: you think doctor Cox hates two Jackman so much. You know,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: this is a question that's been asked so often and
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: we never answered it. I think we're going to throw
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: it to Bill. But my theory is that Cox, who
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: was such an alpha competitive guy, was jealous because at
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the time Hugh Jackman, when we were making the show,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: it was right at the time with Hugh Jackman exploding
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: and becoming a megastar who was not just your average megastar.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: He was doing everything. He could see everything, he could
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: see it. He could dance, he could host award shows,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: he could be an action star, he could be a
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: dramatic star. He was you know, he was everywhere and
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: he was doing everything, and everyone liked him. It wasn't like,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: you know, a lot of stars become polarizing. He wasn't everybody.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Everybody loved him. This dude could, this dude could host
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: the Tony's and then stabbed somebody up as Wolverine Man.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: It was like it was like just one eight after
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: one eighty. So I think, Jenny, that's my guess is
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: that Cox was the character of Cox was jealous of
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: this handsome, you know, muscular man who could do anything
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: and everything, and people just loved him and endured him,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: and so he was jealous of him. But let's ask Bill,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: because that's a good ask Bill, Bill. The fans have
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: been asking for many years, and now a very nice
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: woman from Australia has asked, and the we just to
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: get the answer. Why does doctor Collox hate Hugh Jackman
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: so much? Look, we love Hugh Jackman. When we were
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: trying to come up with who doctor Cox hated for
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: no reason, I think we thought it was important that
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: we came up with somebody that everybody loved and that
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: could do everything. I mean, who has anything against Hugh Jackman.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: He's Wolverine. You know, he's in action movies. He's apparently
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: a lovely guy. He's handsome, he's like People Magazine's sexiest person.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: He can sing, he can dance, you know, five six
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: seven eight, slid that one in, he starred in The
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Music Man on Broadway and that Peter Allan thing. He's
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: just two damn talented. My buddy, Scott Folly is there?
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: Scott torture them? Jenny, I hope that worked for you? Yes,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: five six seven eighth No, No, no, you know what
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: most people? Only Bill usually gets the song when he
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: says it. But because Scott fully so darn charming, Dan
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: hit the button again. It couldn't control them. Sick of it?
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Let me, let me control my home, tiny little universe, please, Jenny. Yes,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you one more question. Uh yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: And my other question was, um, what's your proudest moment
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: from being on the show? Performance? Oh? Wow, I really
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: enjoyed doing the musical theater, uh, the the musical episode.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: I had a lot of fun doing that. Growing up,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I did a lot of musical theater, but not at
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: that scope or that level. And a lot of the
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: people that you know, we're in Scrubs the musical Yeah,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: I saw later on in La La Land or whatever,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: and that made me feel really good. Like, you know,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I danced with some of the some of LA's best
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: dancers and stuff like that, and got to perform with
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: some of LA's best and you know, as you know,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: everybody comes here to make it in the industry, and
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: it felt good to be amongst Hollywood's elite dances and
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: being able to dance with them. I really enjoyed that.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: I'm very proud that I'm going to do that. Yeah,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: I think I'm proud of that episode too, And also
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I'm really proud of you know, it was a really
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: underappreciated I thing, But we did this um sort of
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: Princess Briane homage episode. Um that was the fantasy and
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: sort of a medieval thing, and it kind of it
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: was I believe it was during the writer strike season
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: and uh, the season ended early and we didn't know
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: if the show was coming back, and it was. It
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: was sort of presented as the season finale and possibly
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: a series finale because no one knew if we were
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: coming back, and so it kind of got treated like, oh,
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: what does that have to do with scrubs or ending
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: the show? And but I really am proud of the
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: directing work I did on it, and uh, and I
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: think it looks really pretty and and it was a
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: huge scale for scope was huge, Yeah, it was. It
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: was big, and we spent a lot of money and
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: I think it looked like it and a lot of
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: people worked very hard on it. And then it sort
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: of got underappreciated because people were like, please tell me,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: that's not the series finale, and I was like, no
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: one meant that that was the series finale. But I
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: thought that was good. Yeah, I love that episode. I remember,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, Jenny. All Right, we have to
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: to move on, but thank you so much for coming
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: on the show. Scott, do you want to say anything, Jenny,
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: thank you for coming on. I'd like to thank you
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: for coming on the show too, Jenny. I I hope
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: forgive me for getting into this, but I hope everything's
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: everyone's okay now that you guys have those terrible fires
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: and we were all sort of thinking about you over
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: on the side of the world. So I'm glad you
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: guys are better. Yeah, it's been a big, very difficult year,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: but yeah, we're all getting there. Because Scott's message was
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: nicer than mine. So I would like to say that
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I hope everything's okay. Nobody cares, Zach, nobody cares. That's
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: what we call a callback choke. Everybody, all right, Thank you, Jenny,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: thanks coming on. Yeah, very sweet, very very sweet. Y know,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: j D is a rat. Hold up, let's get into this.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: J D is a little bitch. He's a rat. He
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: is a rat. Funny though, when I go and tell
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: on you though, how funny is that fantasy with me
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: on Johnny's lab? It's very blue hat he goes, who's
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: my big He goes, who's my big boy? Hi? Yeah,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: that was great. I love that. I love that. They
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: show you the two the two sides of you know,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: when something bad happens, they show you the two sides.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: They show you the one that runs right to the
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: principle and it's like and and cries to the principle,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Oh my god, and he did this. And then they
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: show the other person who runs to the principle and
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: freaking tells the principle off. John sees character Cox is
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: the dad that goes to the school and beats up
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: the bully for fucking with his kid. You know what
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: I mean. He's twelve year old boy fucking with his son.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Oh you're gonna touch my son like that? How about this?
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Go tell your dad, don't tell your dad the doctor
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: Cox smacked the shit out of you. And it goes,
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: it goes south. But it was very interesting to watch
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: the two dynamics, like one guy, one guy is a
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: complete rat. Yeah, and it was funny. I didn't even
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: see that. I didn't even see that interpretation of it.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: But that's smart that that is exactly what happens. It's
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: it's the two sides of a coin of how you
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: deal with the situation. Yeah, anyway, why would why would
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: Turk even promise to side with me? I mean, he's
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: a really good doctor. We know that he's not gonna
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: go not It's almost ridiculous that he wouldn't even say, yeah,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: I don't worry hell back you up. He's gonna come
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: in and give his honest analysis. Right. Well, I think
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: he was. I think Turk was trusting the fact that
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: you had done your job, and you know, you were
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: literally calling in him in four favorito, just just tell
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: this dude that he doesn't have anything to worry about.
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: And then when Turk looked at it, he's like, bush,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: hold on, hold on, right, if you gotta you got
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I look at it, like, you know, if there's any
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: if there's a slight chance that Turk gets the opportunity
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: to operate, he's gonna say, yeah, I'm gonna operate, right.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's the real thing. Obviously taken
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: from Obviously this is all inspired by what we were
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: told by real doctors that the surgeons are more apt
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: to be, like let's cut him up, Yeah, let's get
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: it out, let's do it let's do our let's do
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: our thing, and um I love in at twelve fifteen
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: when when when the janitor is is giving my patient
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: advice and he's like, I'm gonna go with surgery, and
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: I go, he's a janitor and he goes, but he
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: seems confident. Again, the guy did not say a sentence
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: that I didn't laugh out loud at its very funny.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: How about Sarah All dolled up for Scott Foley at
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: thirteen forty five? Beautiful? How lucky was I? And my
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: stupid big overcoat? But you're Jack why? JO don't know?
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Did you not have a fitting? Do you remember? It
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: was like the only thing I can chalk it up
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: to was that was just what people were wearing back then.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: But it seemed really big. That was huge. It was
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: the Armandi baggy look back then. I don't know, do
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: you really think it was style or just fit wrong?
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Because you're you're you're supposed to be playing this like
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: heartthrob and and there there you are. I mean, you
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: should be looking like in a nice outfit. I have
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: to think it's it was style or else someone. I mean,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: there's you know, no less than three people, but maybe
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: thirty people on set who should be like, hey, he
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: looks really stupid in that. And it must have been
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: it must have been the style, because that jacket would
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: it came down to your knees almost, and it was
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: huge and it was like a doctor's smock. He's a monster,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: just ridiculous. Well, I thought Sarah looked h beautiful up moment,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: and then I think she looked beautiful even after her
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I know, even with a U. And it was so
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: funny she's covered with puke and blood and poop. Yeah, yep,
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: they did a really good job with her, and it
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: was it was And then you guys film you guys,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: you guys get into that really funny, awkward poop conversation. Yeah,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: they cut, they cut to Judy. It's so funny because
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: you guys are awkwardly flirting about poop and you cut
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: the Judy's dead pan face. Well you know, and then
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: right after that, there's a there's a great moment where
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: the nurse has like, you know, uh um, Sarah and
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Judy are talking. You know, I don't think anybody noticed.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: It's not a big deal. And then one of the
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: nurses to walk by and says, hey, poopy, which I
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: thought was just hilarious. Alma, Yes, I'm really I'm really noticing.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: And all these years later, many of Alma's lines are
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: are moving. She's always walking, always on the move, always
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: on the move. Hey, poopy can slaughter into someone else's shot.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: But that was very funny too. You your whole conversation
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: on how you took a poop. Sure, not here, but
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: not here before, but earlier. I must get down there.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: I think, you know, we we we delve into the
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: relationship deeper in other episodes, but I think that's really
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: the foundation for them. You know, poop is the foundation.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: It's a house built on poop. It well, you know,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: the relationship didn't last long, and we know poop is
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: depends on what your head. They should not have built
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: their house on a foundation of poop. What about in
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: fourteen twenty when the janitor goes, look, I'm just a genitor.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: I don't know much, but I know that you need surgery.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: How did he get in that room? How he was
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: that the was that the beginning of the speech where
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: at the end of it he grabs a newspaper and
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: goes back into the toilet. Uh No, that's a different.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: That's that was geus. That's before he starts going like,
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: that's the that's the most moment with my patient. But
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: then yea, we then we cut around to him going
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: to all of my patients around me higher hospital, telling
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: them and they all need surgery. You have to Yeah,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: that was hilarious and neel so funny that I'm having
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: surgery right now. Oh that that was great. I'm having
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: surgery and I'm loving it, and I'm loving it. So
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: bizarre infomercial and then Donald, what do you say, Let's
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: get you out of your skins, your skin, Let's cut
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: you out of your skin. I'm having that. Girl did
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: a great job. I'm having surgery right now and loving it.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: You know, the writers always have always done a good
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: job on this show of um of finding really subtle
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: gender specific moments that there's something that and I think
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: Bill takes a lot of it from Christa. You know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: there's moments where he's like, there was a character at
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: one point in the show. I don't remember what season
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: it was, but a woman talks about chewing on her
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: thumbnail until it bleeds at the side of her thumbtail bleeds,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: which is a very specific sort of woman thing, and
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: there was a moment in here where Judy says, m
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: you know, I'm I'm not sure there's a cat heaven,
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Like I don't tell Turk. I sometimes cried becase I'm
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: not sure there's a cat heaven. Like. I thought that
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: was a genius, really subtle, gender specific moment, really really
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: spirit of what you're saying, Scott. Then they cut to
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Sarah and the look on her face is like, there's
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: no cat heaven. What do you mean there's no cat heaven.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: It's a really really it's a really subtle moment, but
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: they cut to Sarah's face as though she's just heard,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: like for the first time there's no cat heaven, like
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: she's just had Santa Claus rooined for it. I thought
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: it was great, man, I thought it was really smart.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: I'm delivered it beautifully. The amount of times I'll run
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: into my wife and be like, hey, why are you crying,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: She's like, never mind, and you know it's because she's
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: not sure if there's a cat heaven, there's something ridiculous
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: like that. Um At seventeen twenty one, Sarah bumps into
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Colonel Doctor and I just was exciting, because you know,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Colonel Doctor didn't always get a lot of foreground time,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: but he got a little foreground moment Coleman's Law. I didn't.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: I didn't even see that. That went completely over my head.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I missed that. Yeah, it's even in the Scrubs WICKI
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: uh and and I love about it. We call him
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: colonel doctor because that's what we thought his name was,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: but because it's eventually revealed that his name is Coleman slaw. Um,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: it says in the Scrubs Wiki like Sarah bumps into
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Coleman's Law the Scrubs Wicky, the Scrubs Wiki is so
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: is so accurate that they call colonel doctor Coleman. That's awesome.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: At twenty thirty five, the patient in bed is Richard Wells. Yes,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: our very he was our best first AD, first AD
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: and UPM. Also he went on to be our up
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: M later on when Scott Harris and uh, that's right,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: Franklin got better too, you should say, for those for
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: those of you don't know, a first AD, a first
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: assistant director is the man or woman who was sort
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: of running the set, making sort of the one calling
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: out saying, okay, here we go, we gotta move. Really
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: you think of that in theater like a stage manager,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: but keeping everyone moving along. Uh and uh and sort
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: of the team leader, so the director can ideally focus
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: on the creative aspects of things. Well, the first idea
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: is usually the bad guy. Let's just put it that way.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: The first idea is the one that you come to
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: with all the problems you don't necessarily Yeah. Well, Richard
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Wells was so great at his job and one of
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: the best first ads I've ever worked with. And um,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: and I forgot that he did a cameo and here
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: he is as one of my patients that finally finally
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: says he'll he'll go the medical route, solely because the
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: janitor has told him so at the end of the episode. Also, also,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Richard Wells directed a few episodes of Scrubs. Also, Uh,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: he did a lot on the show. He wasn't just
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: the ad. Yeah, when he became I was bummed though,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: when he when he decided to become a UPM and
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: he was no longer on set because can I ask
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: you a question, Yes, what is the up M? A
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: UPM is a production manager unit production manager, handling the
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: organization of everything up If you need a crane the
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: UPM is the one often calling the rental house and saying,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: we need a crane on Tuesday. Who's bringing it? Timmy?
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: And John the line producer kind of underneath the line producer,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: organizing anything and everything that the nuts and bolts of
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: a production. Scott, you switched to eating. I see, well,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: I switched to my damn things running out of batteries.
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: I can't hear a fucking thing now. But yeah, it's
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: my anniversary, so my wife made me these things when
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: I got to eat him before I come out of
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: my closet, unless he's gonna say, like, why didn't you
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: eat the cookie? I made you? Oh? How many? How many?
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Thanks so much? Thirteen years? Oh my good, thirteen years.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: Wow yeah, wow, yeah, yeah, sorry, that's great and I
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: was excited. You know, I thought I could just listen
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: to your explanation of line producer versus UPM and no
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: one would notice. But I forgot that. I'm sure everyone
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: tuned out when I started describing a UPM. All right, listen,
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: we did it as uh as Howard Stern says, We've
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: said it all Um, this has been really fun, Scott,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: did you have a good time? I love to be
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: in here. I love seeing your faces. You know, we
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: haven't we haven't had the chance to see too many
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: people recently, so it meant a lot to me, and
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: it it Uh, it's meant a lot to me to
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: be a part of this, have been a part of
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: this show. I look back finally on it and consider
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: both of you good friends of mine. So I appreciate
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: you having me on. Well, we miss you, dude. I
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: gotta thank you. Yeah, I miss you man I I uh,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: I gotta tell you. You know, we talked about it
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: all the time. I ran in the chip at vot
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: voting uh chipper, yeah and uh and I was like,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: you know, we gotta we gotta get together again. And
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: this was I thought this was back when we thought
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: this pandemic would last about a month and a half. Yeah,
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: and it's uh, you know I I'd love to get
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: out and play golf with you again once this is
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: all said and done, man, Yeah, we'll find the time
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: and tennis. I'd love to watch you defeat Bill and
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: tennis if possible, Well, if we'll find out when he's injured,
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: and then we'll go out and play because I can't
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: because I can't beat Bill in any sports. I often
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: try and find people that can beat him so I
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: can just watch I'm game. Hey, you know, I wanted
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: to talk about it, and I don't know if you
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: remember this before we go. You know, Donald and I
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: have had the chance to work together, not just on
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: a bunch of things, but you and I aside from Scrubs,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: and this is something I regret very much after doing
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: I don't know, however, meant two or three episodes in
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: the first season. You wrote a short film about robots,
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: maybe probably I love robots, and you sent me the
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: script and I was busy doing something else so I
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: couldn't do it. But I've always regretted not being able
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: to work with you as a director on something you wrote.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: And that was that's that's still something I look back on.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: I totally remember it. It was a I can't remember that.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: I vaguely remember it too. I was trying to start
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: directing things because I had gone to some school and
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: I was and I was doing Scrubs and it was
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: so amazing. But of course, in my mind as a
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: as a young getter, was thinking, I gotta start making stuff.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: And I wrote that a wacky short, and I asked
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: you to be in it, but thank you for almost
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: saying yes. Yeah. I absolutely would have said yes if
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: I wasn't able to, But I look, I love both
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: you guys and will hopefully work with you until we
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: die on different things. I made a really cool short
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: film recently, Scott that you should chuck out. It's called
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: in the Time It Takes to Get There, And I
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: guess I've taken this opportunity to give a shout out
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: to that short, So if you're listening to this, check
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: it out. It's got The Time it Takes to Get There. Yeah,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: it's got a Alicia Silverstone, Donald's old co star, and
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: it's got Florence Pugh, the very exciting young actress Oscar nominee,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: and it's really good and it's on YouTube and you
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: can go watch it. It was Adobe had this contest
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: where people college kids could design a movie poster, and
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: the winning movie poster design using Photoshop. The prize was
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: that I would write and direct a short film inspired
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: by the movie poster. Oh yeah, you know, I saw
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: an article about that. Anytime I see your guy's names
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: in in any sort of press, I check it out.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: And I saw an article about this, so I will
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: definitely check it out. Check it out. I recently want
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: a webby for it, which is a which is a
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: cool web award. But check it out. Nobody cares, Zach.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: Oh my god. Yeah, everybody could see Donald's face when
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: he says that right now with his hands on his head.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: I wish everyone could see my face right now, because
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: I've successfully didn't feel sad. You're not, but you look
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: like you're sitting underneath. By the way, I want you
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: to know that I knew every Boddy listening would be like, oh,
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: I can't wait for him to say nobody cares Sean.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: I'm the only one in this You've said it multiple times,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: Donald has I'm the only one who never said those
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: nobody cares, Zach. But the problem is you said them
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: to begin with, and not a day goes by where
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: someone either personally or on social media doesn't comment or
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: say nobody. I mean, I could say a happy birthday
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: to my lovely wife of thirteen years, happy anniversary of
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: thirteen years, and I'll get six Nobody cares Sean's well,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: and it makes me equally happy and fucking I rate
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: all right, I get it, man, Well, listen, we got
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: Bills saying five six seventy on this podcast, and I
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: post something on on Instagram and every other comment is
