- 0:12Dayna Roselli: See the most memorable images displayed on the outside and inside of the venue.
- 0:18Dayna Roselli: Plus, for the first time ever, art from members of the public will be shown on the outside.
- 0:23Sean McAllister: Also, the man who created the sphere tells us it's his childhood dream come true.
- 0:29Dayna Roselli: And the incredible feat of creating postcard from Earth.
- 0:32Dayna Roselli: Plus, Aura the robot knows her stuff.
- 0:35SPEAKER_08: The average life expectancy for Americans is around 78 years.
- 0:41Sean McAllister: All that and more this week on Vegas Reveal.
- 0:51Sean McAllister: Vegas Revealed, presented by Level Up Law, starts now.
- 0:55Sean McAllister: Welcome to Vegas Revealed.
- 0:56Sean McAllister: I'm Sean McAllister, along with Dana Roselli.
- 0:59Sean McAllister: And this week we're marking a milestone for the sphere.
- 1:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, ever since the outside of the sphere debuted, there has been a buzz around the world.
- 1:08Dayna Roselli: And that happened on July 4th of 2023.
- 1:11Dayna Roselli: So we are coming up on a year.
- 1:13Sean McAllister: It's hard to believe it's been a year already, isn't it?
- 1:16Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 1:16Sean McAllister: I mean the sphere is like a part of our lives now.
- 1:19Sean McAllister: I know.
- 1:19Sean McAllister: And that venue did open in late September of 2023 with a red carpet and, of course, the debut for U2, the inaugural headliners at the Sphere.
- 1:29Sean McAllister: And we were there to talk with MSG's owner, James Dolan.
- 1:33Sean McAllister: We also talked to film director Darren Aronofsky, who created Postcard from Earth.
- 1:38Sean McAllister: That's that cinematic experience that plays regularly inside the sphere.
- 1:43Sean McAllister: There were also tons of celebrities, and we'll have those conversations for you coming up this half hour.
- 1:49Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so shows inside the sphere so far, U2, Fish, Dead and Company, and now the Eagles have just been announced as well.
- 1:57Dayna Roselli: So there's so much buzz.
- 1:59Dayna Roselli: There's actually a Facebook group that is hundreds of thousands of people in it, and everyone posting their experiences, where the best place to see it, what you thought about this, what you thought about that, how early do I need to get there?
- 2:12Dayna Roselli: I mean, every day there are just tons of posts.
- 2:15Sean McAllister: In addition to Facebook, there's a ton of YouTube channels that are dedicated to live streaming images of the sphere.
- 2:23Sean McAllister: So whenever there's a a new uh design that goes up on that exosphere, people online around the world are the first to know because there's a lot of people tuning into these streams.
- 2:35Dayna Roselli: Oh, there are.
- 2:35Dayna Roselli: And you know, and I must say, I get like a child when I drive by.
- 2:38Dayna Roselli: I get giddy, I start laughing, and when I look at some of the the out the exosphere images, I guess, I get so excited.
- 2:46Dayna Roselli: I still love having the sphere here, and it still wows me.
- 2:50Dayna Roselli: It's not like, oh well, driving by the sphere.
- 2:52Dayna Roselli: It's like, oh my gosh, all the time.
- 2:54Dayna Roselli: And I get out my phone if I'm a passenger and and take some video of it.
- 2:58Dayna Roselli: It's it's an attraction.
- 3:00Sean McAllister: It is.
- 3:00Sean McAllister: It doesn't matter whether it's the emoji that's winking at you, or maybe the sphere is snoozing and just waking up for the day, or maybe there's a fuzzy troll that's winking at you.
- 3:11Sean McAllister: It it really is, it's become just a part of what we expect here in Las Vegas now.
- 3:18Dayna Roselli: And I love that nobody else has it.
- 3:21Dayna Roselli: The one and only one and only well, you know, when it was under construction, I don't know, it was weird, like not tons of people were talking about it at first, and as the structure started, you know, getting it shape, and and and people started driving by, like, and then people started asking, like, what is happening here?
- 3:38Dayna Roselli: And we got some video of that way back, but I remember us going, What what exactly is gonna happen here?
- 3:44Sean McAllister: Yeah, well, in uh the video that you're looking at now, we we were over there when some of those exosphere panels were still on the ground and they were doing some testing, putting up those test patterns to see uh what the what those LED pucks would look like once they were up on the side.
- 4:02Sean McAllister: And that really did garner a lot of attention, and I mean it was really intriguing for people, like you said, wondering what is this thing going to look like once it's all lit up?
- 4:13Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and there were a lot of tests before.
- 4:15Dayna Roselli: So, like you said, it created this you know, uh these questions and going, what what exactly is gonna happen here?
- 4:23Dayna Roselli: Is it gonna be one image that's gonna like stick all the time?
- 4:26Dayna Roselli: Anyway, 4th of July, all of a sudden, we see fireworks on Sphere.
- 4:32Dayna Roselli: It goes live, it uh debuts on social media, and everyone is just like, wow.
- 4:39Sean McAllister: It's been a sensation ever since.
- 4:41Sean McAllister: And James Dolan, he's the executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment.
- 4:47Sean McAllister: The Sphere is his brainchild, and he told us that the idea for this project actually started when he was a kid.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: I've been thinking about this since I was a teenager.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: The object of the sphere is to convince you that you're not here, that you're someplace else, like I said, like the Amazon rainforest or the Arctic or under the ocean or in space, etc., to be able to take people to places like that and have them really feel what it's like.
- 5:15Dayna Roselli: Well, Sean and I have been in broadcasting here in Las Vegas for 20 years, so I'm curious why did you choose Vegas as the first spot for this?
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: I love Vegas.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I've been coming here my whole life.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: But Vegas is the city of light, right?
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Vegas is where all the biggest, you know, all the new and I came here, I came here 30 years ago and and was you know just taken by the the the bright lights of the city and and the um but this year of the the is both the community and the government have been so welcoming, right, and they wanted this, that they they're encouraging to us, and to do a project like this, you need you need partnership like that, and it was clear Las Vegas had that.
- 6:00Sean McAllister: The technology that you're debuting here at the sphere, it it's almost on par with like the early dawn of movies in Hollywood where people were having to figure out how to how to make it happen.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: You do feel that way?
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, I do.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I this is this is a new medium.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: There are aspects of this that that have never been, you know, creators have never had a palette like this before, where that where it's not just a rectangular box that they're programming, but it's an entire experience.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: And they have to think experientially in order to be creative with it.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: So I I think we're gonna see a lot of a lot of great content coming out of here.
- 6:42Dayna Roselli: And what an experience for us to interview James Dolan.
- 6:45Dayna Roselli: We went to the red carpet thinking, okay, we're gonna cover, you know, a bunch of celebrities that are showing up, but we didn't think we'd get to talk one-on-one with James Dolan.
- 6:52Sean McAllister: Right, and even outside of the world of Las Vegas and architecture, James Dolan is a big deal in in broadcasting and entertainment venues as a whole.
- 7:02Sean McAllister: So that was great to talk with him and you know, see where the idea of sphere really came from.
- 7:08Dayna Roselli: Yeah, very interesting.
- 7:10Dayna Roselli: And he also said, listen, the sphere is in Las Vegas because Las Vegas made it easy.
- 7:16Dayna Roselli: And I love that.
- 7:17Dayna Roselli: He said, you know what?
- 7:18Dayna Roselli: We're here because other cities made it difficult, and this city uh made it easy.
- 7:24Dayna Roselli: So here we go.
- 7:24Dayna Roselli: So Las Vegas, that's the thing, is we're all about like spectacle.
- 7:27Dayna Roselli: We like it.
- 7:28Sean McAllister: So be more like Vegas.
- 7:29Sean McAllister: Right.
- 7:30Sean McAllister: And uh one thing that I thought was interesting, Dana, you were uh taking a cab ride, and the driver gave you some interesting information related to the sphere.
- 7:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah, he was like, you know, people are coming in just to see the sphere.
- 7:40Dayna Roselli: And I'm like, well, like to go to things, you know, like to go to postcard uh from Earth or, you know, go see you too.
- 7:45Dayna Roselli: He's like, no, people are flying in.
- 7:47Dayna Roselli: He goes, I must say, all day long, I'm getting people that land at the airport that are here just to see the outside of the sphere.
- 7:55Dayna Roselli: Jeez.
- 7:56Dayna Roselli: Isn't that crazy?
- 7:57Sean McAllister: So just like when the Bellagio fountains opened, they were a major draw, and now it's sphere.
- 8:02Dayna Roselli: Yep.
- 8:03Dayna Roselli: All right, well, Carolyn Goodman, our mayor, the Las Vegas mayor, is in her final term.
- 8:07Dayna Roselli: And even though the strip is not in her jurisdiction, she has always been a cheerleader for all things that push the city forward.
- 8:15Sean McAllister: Yeah, and that includes the sphere.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: Talk about culture and entertainment.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: Whoa, you try and catch us, anybody out there, there is no place lost like Las Vegas.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: And you're tired and you feel, oh my gosh, I've been working so hard and I live in this place or that.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: I'm going to Vegas and I'm gonna forget everything and just I'm gonna go see football, I'm gonna go see basketball, I'm gonna do anything, but I am coming to the sphere.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: We have everything.
- 8:45Sean McAllister: And mayor, there have been a lot of spectacular things that have risen up out of the ground here in Las Vegas.
- 8:51Sean McAllister: How does this compare?
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Look what's happened in the movies, look where we've gone, and so this is the most phenomenal, innovative, new venue for promoting um concepts, innovation, uh, energy, and all the things that Las Vegas truly represents.
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: We're about we're about change, we're about grasping new ideas, seeking ways for all of the people that choose to come here or live here equally to have a chance to enjoy it.
- 9:22Sean McAllister: Isn't Carolyn just always a delight to talk to?
- 9:26Dayna Roselli: A bundle of joy, right?
- 9:28Sean McAllister: She is.
- 9:29Dayna Roselli: She really is a cheerleader.
- 9:30Sean McAllister: Well, whether she's in office or not, she always will be rooting for Las Vegas, that's for sure.
- 9:36Dayna Roselli: Well, coming up next on Vegas Reveal, celebrities came out to see Sphere for the first time, too, and we spoke with a bunch of them before they walked inside the doors.
- 9:45Sean McAllister: And strip resorts are now being asked for Sphere View Rooms.
- 9:50Sean McAllister: More on that phenomenon still to come on Vegas Revealed.
- 9:55Dayna Roselli: And don't miss the Sphere Fourth of July celebration.
- 9:58Dayna Roselli: This will be a dazzling six-act Exosphere show that'll be synced to music and running two showings at 9.30 p.m.
- 10:06Dayna Roselli: and 11.40 p.m.
- 10:07Dayna Roselli: Pacific time.
- 10:09Dayna Roselli: You can also watch from around the world on the new official live stream of the Exosphere.
- 10:14Dayna Roselli: That's at thesphere.com.
- 10:23SPEAKER_06: If you've experienced a slip and fall, were injured in a place of business or on a construction site, call level up law.
- 10:30SPEAKER_06: Do you have a wrongful death case or been in a motor vehicle accident, even harmed in a ride share?
- 10:35SPEAKER_06: Our team specializes in personal injury cases.
- 10:38SPEAKER_06: Call Level Up Law now at 855 Level Up.
- 10:41SPEAKER_06: Elevate your case with Level Up Law.
- 10:44SPEAKER_06: We've got your back.
- 10:45SPEAKER_06: Call 855 Level Up.
- 10:47SPEAKER_06: Your journey to justice starts here.
- 10:49SPEAKER_06: Level Up Law.
- 10:50SPEAKER_06: Justice at your fingertips.
- 10:57Dayna Roselli: Welcome back to Vegas Revealed, and check this out.
- 11:00Dayna Roselli: In our opinion, the best way to get up close with the exosphere is the Las Vegas monorail.
- 11:07Sean McAllister: Yeah, and this has kind of been our tip ever since Sphere lit up for the very first time because we were taking the monorail quite a bit.
- 11:17Sean McAllister: And you get, I mean, it's as up close as you can get without actually being outside on the sidewalk at the sphere.
- 11:26Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's so true.
- 11:27Dayna Roselli: And it's cool because you get to see it a little bit from the distance, and then you get closer and closer, and then you're right up on it.
- 11:32Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 11:33Dayna Roselli: So, I mean, and the monorail is so affordable.
- 11:35Dayna Roselli: You know, we park at Westgate where it's free.
- 11:38Dayna Roselli: Hop on at that station and then just ride on by.
- 11:41Dayna Roselli: So just a little tip from us.
- 11:43Dayna Roselli: I know people are always looking for the best place to see it.
- 11:46Dayna Roselli: Hey, a couple things that I noticed on the frequently asked questioned page on the Sphere website that I know people often wonder about is uh, first of all, you know, do I need to bring cash to Sphere?
- 11:58Dayna Roselli: How does it work?
- 11:59Dayna Roselli: It's a cashless venue, so all cashless.
- 12:01Dayna Roselli: Keep that in mind.
- 12:01Dayna Roselli: And then also I did notice that um people, you know, I think when you go to the venue, you're thinking, I I probably want to like, you know, send some photos and videos to friends.
- 12:10Dayna Roselli: You get excited, you want to post on social media, and they do have free Wi-Fi.
- 12:14Sean McAllister: Every part of your experience there is shareable, so you want to be able to post about it.
- 12:19Sean McAllister: So the free Wi-Fi is great.
- 12:20Dayna Roselli: And it's smart of them to give the free Wi-Fi because then everyone will post about it, and that's free promotion.
- 12:25Dayna Roselli: Well, listen, we told you in a previous show about the Sphere Exo student design challenge, and this is where Clark County and UNLV students had a chance to design something that would go on the exosphere.
- 12:38Sean McAllister: Yeah, we have an update for you.
- 12:39Sean McAllister: Voting is now closed in this contest.
- 12:43Sean McAllister: We now wait to see what will appear on the exosphere, and those contest winners will have their designs up there on July 4th, the one-year anniversary of the sphere lighting up.
- 12:54Sean McAllister: And we did get some video of students working on their designs.
- 12:58Dayna Roselli: And the students each received a VR headset, as you can see here, with custom software developed by the Sphere team specifically for this contest, and that allowed them to create artwork for the exosphere.
- 13:20Dayna Roselli: All of the artwork was really just fabulous.
- 13:23Dayna Roselli: Look at all this.
- 13:24Dayna Roselli: How creative.
- 13:25Dayna Roselli: Eight winners will be chosen from the different age groups and will each receive a scholarship or donation to their school's art program and see their artwork debut on the Exosphere again, July 4th.
- 13:37Dayna Roselli: So everyone be on the lookout.
- 13:38Dayna Roselli: That's the one-year anniversary of the Exosphere's first illumination.
- 13:42Sean McAllister: Well, still to come.
- 13:43Sean McAllister: Postcard from Earth is a film created just for the sphere.
- 13:48Sean McAllister: Up next, we talk one-on-one with the director.
- 13:51Dayna Roselli: And once you step inside the sphere lobby, your experience begins.
- 13:55Dayna Roselli: More of our special coverage coming up.
- 13:58SPEAKER_06: When storms wreak havoc on your property, don't face the aftermath alone.
- 14:02SPEAKER_06: Level Up Law is your ally in natural disaster recovery.
- 14:06SPEAKER_06: Whether it's property damage, wind resulting in down trees, wildfires, or water damage, our experienced team will help you.
- 14:13SPEAKER_06: Call 855 Level Up for a free consultation.
- 14:17SPEAKER_06: Call Level Up Law now.
- 14:18SPEAKER_06: 855 Level Up and take the first step toward rebuilding your life.
- 14:22SPEAKER_06: Level Up Law.
- 14:23SPEAKER_06: Justice at your fingertips.
- 14:25SPEAKER_06: Call today.
- 14:30Dayna Roselli: Welcome back to Vegas Revealed as we take a look at Postcard from Earth.
- 14:35Dayna Roselli: This is a cinematic experience that is the entertainment anchor at Sphere.
- 14:39Dayna Roselli: It's a multi-sensory film.
- 14:41Dayna Roselli: The seats move, you smell some smells.
- 14:44Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's a whole thing.
- 14:45Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 14:45Sean McAllister: It really is.
- 14:46Sean McAllister: And the movie represents a lot of technological firsts.
- 14:50Sean McAllister: We talked about that with the film's director, Darren Aronovsky.
- 14:54SPEAKER_09: Well, the resolution is hard to understand.
- 14:56SPEAKER_09: Your TV at home is probably a 4K TV, but this is 18K.
- 15:02SPEAKER_09: And uh so coming out of the camera that they built called Big Sky, it's 32 gigs per second of information.
- 15:09SPEAKER_09: And the final file of this movie is half a petabyte, which is 500,000 gigabytes.
- 15:15SPEAKER_09: It's like a level of information that we're projecting into people's brains that's just gonna make people go, wow.
- 15:24SPEAKER_09: And that's been interesting.
- 15:25SPEAKER_09: Like people, people are just sort of getting emotional just by the beauty of the images.
- 15:30Sean McAllister: Well, and talk about that big sky camera system, because I know that I mean this had to be developed specifically for this venue.
- 15:38Sean McAllister: What challenges did you have in working with this system?
- 15:43SPEAKER_09: Well, it was a new camera, so there's as you know, before something gets onto the market, it takes there's normally a lot of consumer testing.
- 15:50SPEAKER_09: There was no testing.
- 15:51SPEAKER_09: So we were testing on site.
- 15:52SPEAKER_09: We'd be off in the rainforest in Vietnam and trying to figure out how to turn this thing on.
- 15:58SPEAKER_09: It takes, you know, a dozen people to turn the camera on.
- 16:02SPEAKER_09: So there were technically unbelievable challenges, and also it sees 270 degrees.
- 16:08SPEAKER_09: So it's um there's nowhere for the crew to hide.
- 16:13Dayna Roselli: That is unreal.
- 16:14Dayna Roselli: 12 people to turn it on?
- 16:15SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 16:16SPEAKER_09: Something like that?
- 16:17SPEAKER_09: A number of people.
- 16:18SPEAKER_09: I think it started off a lot more and it became less and less.
- 16:20Sean McAllister: I geek out over all of that technology stuff, so I could have talked about that with Darren for a long, long time.
- 16:26Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I almost walked away.
- 16:28Dayna Roselli: I was like, you two just have your conversation.
- 16:29Dayna Roselli: You were talking about all sorts of stuff and asking him questions that I didn't even I wasn't even aware of.
- 16:34Dayna Roselli: So yeah, I mean, it really is interesting though, and you can tell he's put his heart and soul into this.
- 16:38Sean McAllister: Yeah, he really has.
- 16:40Sean McAllister: And if you didn't know, Sphere is part of the Venetian.
- 16:44Sean McAllister: It connects by a bridge, or you can step outside and you know use the sidewalk across the street.
- 16:49Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 16:49Sean McAllister: Um, you too had a free exhibit inside of Venetian, and so does Ded and Company.
- 16:54Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's a really great partnership.
- 16:56Dayna Roselli: And we talked with Marcy Miles, the chief marketing officer at Venetian, about the sphere effect that they're seeing over at the resort.
- 17:03SPEAKER_07: We are the only resort with physical connectivity to the sphere.
- 17:07SPEAKER_07: So it's aptly named Sphere at the Venetian, and it certainly has changed a lot of the energy when we're having the shows and 18,000 people are coming through.
- 17:16SPEAKER_07: But it certainly has been an incredible journey with the sphere.
- 17:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I mean it's really cool.
- 17:20SPEAKER_07: Do people ever request rooms that face the sphere?
- 17:23SPEAKER_07: Yes, you can request or purchase a room that faces the sphere, and they are quite popular.
- 17:28SPEAKER_07: It's something nobody's ever seen before, and you never know quite what it's gonna do.
- 17:31Dayna Roselli: So you can treat yourself to a suite with that stunning view of sphere at the Venetian or Palazzo.
- 17:38Dayna Roselli: It's easy to book it.
- 17:39Dayna Roselli: You go to VenetianLosvegas.com backslash entertainment, backslash sphere.
- 17:44Sean McAllister: Yeah, so I mean that's great that they're thinking of this all-encompassing experience for people, like we've said, yeah, who are coming here just for that sphere experience.
- 17:55Sean McAllister: And when we covered the red carpet on opening night of the sphere, we talked to a lot of celebrities.
- 18:01Dayna Roselli: We did.
- 18:01Dayna Roselli: Actor Adam Scott was there, and also Luke Wilson.
- 18:05SPEAKER_10: I mean, I've been seeing pictures of the sphere on or sphere on social media, and it's in person, it's even more unbelievable.
- 18:12SPEAKER_10: You can't believe that there's something this big that's one giant screen.
- 18:17SPEAKER_10: It's technology I feel like people haven't really seen yet uh live.
- 18:23SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm wondering if it's gonna be different than when I saw you two at the Tarrant County Convention Center in Fort Worth, Texas in '87.
- 18:30SPEAKER_05: I feel like it's gonna be a little different.
- 18:33SPEAKER_05: Maybe slightly more immersive, although it's pretty immersed in fact.
- 18:37SPEAKER_05: Um no, it should be incredible.
- 18:39SPEAKER_05: I mean, what little research I've done about it, it just sounds like James Dolan and the people from Madison Square Garden have built, you know, a one-of-a-kind state-of-the-art music venue.
- 18:50SPEAKER_05: And uh just yeah, what they can do now with technology and sound.
- 18:55SPEAKER_05: It's unbelievable.
- 18:57Sean McAllister: That Luke Wilson is a character, isn't he?
- 19:00Dayna Roselli: Always a comedian, right?
- 19:01Sean McAllister: Yeah, he goes right into it.
- 19:03Sean McAllister: We also spoke with actor Skyler Aston, who was there too.
- 19:06Sean McAllister: You might remember him from the Pitch Perfect movies.
- 19:09Dayna Roselli: Yeah, he was thrilled to be in Las Vegas for such a big event.
- 19:12Dayna Roselli: He was really fun to talk to, too.
- 19:14SPEAKER_04: I feel very lucky.
- 19:15SPEAKER_04: I really like immersive live performance.
- 19:17SPEAKER_04: Like I saw uh O a Cirque Show last night, and just the way that they were incorporating music and dance and circus and swimming.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: Like I just love, you know, when mediums can kind of blend like that.
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: So this is no different to get the kind of immersive screens with like one of the best rock bands of all time.
- 19:33SPEAKER_04: I just feel really lucky to be here.
- 19:35Dayna Roselli: And we're in such a digital world seeing something like this, and you being, you know, a younger generation than some of the people that we've talked to already.
- 19:41Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's gotta blow your mind to see something like this in person.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: I agree.
- 19:45SPEAKER_04: I mean, I wonder if there's more like this to follow, and then I'm gonna be like, you know what, I remember the first time they they did a shape on the on the you know, a shape venue that was both cool in inside and outside.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 19:58SPEAKER_04: Or else or maybe this one will just be like the the the really special, you know, venue that there's only one of.
- 20:03SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
