- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the table at a dance competition?
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Exactly what are the judges looking for anyway?
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: This is Making the Impact a Dance Competition Podcast.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Each week we'll cover a different topic related to the world of competitive dance from the perspective of the judges behind the table.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: Hey listeners, welcome back to season three of Making the Impact a Dance Competition Podcast.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Courtney Ortiz, and I'm here with my co-host Leslie Mueller.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Hey everybody, welcome back, Courtney.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: I know, right?
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I'm so, so, so happy that we're back.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, I've missed the pod.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: I've missed it too.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And it it really feels unreasonable to not podcast with you every week.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: So when we take time off, even though we talk, it's like, this isn't right.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: There's more.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: There should be more.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: There's so and I'm I know we we have talked about so many things, just you and I individually during the hiatus of the pod, but just talking about so many things in dance and life that I'm like, oh, we just need to talk about this on the podcast.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I can't wait till we get back to the podcast.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: You know, one of these days we should just like take snippets from our voice note conversations and turn that into a podcast.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that that would be something to listen to, y'all.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: There would probably be some bleeps here and there.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: We would definitely have some redactions.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Well, we're we're so happy to be back, and we're so happy to be bringing you this podcast for our third season.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Wow, can you believe that uh practically two years ago?
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Definitely two years ago, we were in the process of creating this idea.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: We had we hadn't recorded anything yet.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: We hadn't launched an official podcast yet.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: No, we didn't but we didn't have these nice microphones.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: We had nothing.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we we were, I think season one, we were using my boyfriend's guitar microphones and drum microphones, which was, I mean, it didn't sound that bad, but it was, you know.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: We've we've upgraded since then.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: We totally have.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: And we upgraded thanks to all of you listeners.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: We have been fortunate enough to be able to afford some enhancements and putting some funds into the podcast since then, since it's taken off at such success since our launch back in October of 2019 for season one.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: So if you've been tuning in since then and have been a listener since the beginning, props to you.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much for supporting us.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: And if you're brand new to the podcast, welcome to season three.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: We uh talk all about dance competitions and oftentimes from the perspective of your judges.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: So through Making the Impact, we also run uh Impact Dance Adjudicators, which is my business.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Leslie is a big part of that business.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Leslie also judges for the company.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: I'm also a judge, and we have a roster of over a hundred judges around the country who go out every single weekend and judge for a lot of different IDA affiliated competitions.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: And when we are judging so often, we have a lot of things that we want to talk about that sometimes we can't get out in our critiques that go by in a blink of an eye in three minutes.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: So Leslie and I came up with this exciting idea two years ago to, you know, why not why not create a podcast where we can talk in more detail about so many hot topics in the competition world.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And, you know, your your average critique for a routine is two and a half to three minutes, but we speak for an hour about some of these topics that, you know, there's it's clearly there's a lot to talk about.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: There's a lot to cover.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: So, you know, we hope that you are learning something when you listen.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: We hope that you are enjoying yourself and you have, you know, things to take away from what we are telling you as experts in the field, you know, being out every weekend judging.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: And throughout the evolution of the podcast within the past two seasons, and as we head into season three, we have branched out a bit and have brought on other experts in other parts of the dance industry.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: And some of our topics have stepped away from just competitive dance, but still in the realm of the competitive dance world, whether it be about pr transitioning into a professional dance world from being a competitive dancer or going to college and things of that nature.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: So our our goal here with Making the Impact podcast is to bring you expert opinions and advice and a helpful free resource to learn more about dance and how to make the most out of your dance training throughout your dancer's time at their competitive studio.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: And we'll we'll get to a few more highlights of season one and season two in a minute.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: But so just, you know, just like you do at the beginning of the school year, Courtney, what did you do this summer?
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Well, my summer has been, I would say it may be one of my have been one of my busiest summers ever because last summer, 2020, was non-existent as far as work.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Usually my summers are jam-packed filled with either judging, teaching, or choreographing.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: And I travel all over and just guest class like everywhere.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: But last year there wasn't the opportunity to do that.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: So this year, when things started kind of reopening, I decided to jam-pack my summer.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: And I I didn't say no to a single job unless someone approached me about a job once I was booked.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: So whoever got to me first, good you did good.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: And you helped me fill my summer with nothing but teaching.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: And I'm doing a lot of choreography this summer, which I I don't actually do as often as many listeners may might think.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: And it's been really challenging, but also so inspiring and eye-opening.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: And I've I've learned a lot myself, and I've worked with so many different types of dancers, and I'm just extremely grateful for the work.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: So I'm ex I'm looking forward to my my fall, which will be a little less hectic, but it's been a really successful summer so far.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Well, and Courtney is here recording as we speak on her one day off.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: In the past like two and a half weeks.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: So we are psyched that this can be a part of your August.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, Leslie, your turn.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Tell me all about your summer so far.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: My summer.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Well, I spent a little bit of time judging nationals in Cape Cod for Spirit of Dance Awards.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: That was super fun.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Got to choreograph an opening number routine.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Which, you know, if anybody out there has ever learned an opening number routine, you know, you get a few hours to learn a whole dance.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: And, you know, you're dancing with people you don't know, and I'm teaching kids I don't know, and everything.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: So we had five hours to learn a two and a half minute dance.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: And these kids did amazingly.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: They worked so hard.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I think everybody across the country, probably, if you were at a nationals this summer, you were just so happy to be there.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: So I I really enjoyed doing that this summer and didn't do any really do any teaching this summer, but I have started flexing my writing muscles again.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: If you remember from years past, I am the editor of the IDA judges blog.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Um, but in recent years, because my role has shifted more into the podcast realm of things, our lovely Maddie Kurtz is now the main writer for the IDA blog.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: So I just kind of glance at our blog out every now and then and just tweak a few things.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: But I am now a writer for a publication called DanceParent101.com, which is a resource out of Australia for dance parents.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: It's kind of up and coming and new, so I signed on to be a contributing writer.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna be contributing one or two, two to three maybe articles per month for the year, just mainly geared towards dance parents.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: So, dance parents out there, if you are you know looking for even more resources, you know, that publication covers all sorts of things from how to choose the right shoes to different product recommendations to you know just different articles about the benefits of certain kinds of dancing.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: And they have a pretty up-and-coming social media presence.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: So give them a follow.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Their uh Instagram is danceparent101.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: And I know that you'll be sharing a lot of your articles that you write into our Facebook group that we will chat about soon that you should all be joining.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: But before we talk about the Facebook group, I just want to also say that Leslie became a cat mommy.
- 8:22unknown: Yes.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I have a new cat baby.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Her name is Charlotte.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: She's two, and she has been on my mind for about a year, you know, pandemic uh loss, not losses necessarily, but just pandemic loneliness, I guess.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: And I just bit the bullet and I got a cat.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: And it's been about two weeks now, and she's coming out of her shell a little bit.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Um, she's trying to to understand me and and my habits and everything.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: So she's very pretty, she's very small, and she is very graceful.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: I've I've gotten to finally see her do a few things.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: So I think she'll she'll be a dancing cat in no time.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Uh welcome to the cat mom life.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited for all of our cats to hang out.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: I can't wait.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we should maybe.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, your cats would tolerate being put in a tutu.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know if mine would, but like we should do like a cat photo shoot for like dancing cats.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I don't know, it could be cute.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: But I have boys, I don't want to put them in tutuats.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: What do they wear?
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: They have bow ties.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: They could be tap dancing cats.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, they could be tap dancing cats.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Or hip hop.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, well, they have hoodies.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Put the hoodies on them.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Done.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: I'll wrangle Charlotte into a tutu and we can do a photo shoot.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Okay, so um, any photographers out there who would like to photograph our cats in tutus and hoodies, let us know.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: We can't pay you, but you can donate your time.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll give you a shout-out on the podcast.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: We also are looking for photographer anyway for our new promo shots for season three, anyway.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe we could do a little combo of all of it.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: We never did season two promo shots anyway.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: So it's it's about time.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: It's about time.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Well, we will pay you for that.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: So yeah, season one and two, it was it was a huge success.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Like we've already said, you have a lot of catching up to do because we had a total of 66 episodes in total between seasons one and two since we launched, 41 episodes in season two alone.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: So head on over to Apple Podcasts and Spotify and start listening now.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: So many great topics.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Over a 80,000 downloads since our launch two years ago on the podcast.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: How exciting! I mean, and people from all over the place Canada, Australia, Germany, the UK, Mexico, Ireland, India, all over the world are listening to our podcast.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And that's really just like the top, what is that, seven or eight?
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Like there are other people in other smaller, you know, places listening.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: And it's it just blows my mind that we're, you know, in in 2021, we are just around the world.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: And people around the world love dance and dance competitions this much.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And yeah, you know, we reigning still as our most listened to episode of all time is lyrical versus contemporary.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: It's gonna, it's gonna hold that spot it forever.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: I really think it is.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know what else could be more popular.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Even recently in a in a recent Facebook group, someone said, Can someone please explain to me the difference between lyrical versus contemporary?
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: And every time someone says that question, I go grab the link to our podcast and I post it and say, Please listen to our podcast.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: And then more people see it because everyone just wants to know.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: And especially coming from the judges.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: You know, hearing it straight from the judges when we're critiquing and adjudicating and scoring a lyrical versus or a contemporary piece.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: We obviously should, hopefully, every judge knows the difference.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: We should know the difference.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: So we kind of gave a rundown, and that is our most listened to episode, and it probably will remain in first place for the end of time.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, the second second most most listened to is the do's and don'ts of costuming, which I think makes sense.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: You know, to come in second place there.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: And then uh the most is listened to episode of season two from this past season is tricks versus technique, which I also think makes total sense.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Everybody loves a trick.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Not everybody loves a technique, but you should I think based on that episode, you should know that we love a technique.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: We us judges love a technique.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Any any technique, any technique will do.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Just have some technique.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Have some technique for your tricks is the pretty much the gist of that episode.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: That was a great episode featuring Carla Ciratolo from Expressions in Indiana.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: So uh definitely give a listen to that one if you haven't yet.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: So over the summer we we got an exciting email coming our way, and it was from Welp magazine, and they named Making the Impact as one of the best dance podcasts of 2021.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're popular.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: We are on the list, we were alongside so many other great and fantastic dance podcasts like the Dance Edit Podcast or Re-Gold's Dance Life Podcast.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: And we are just so grateful that they picked us and we made the cut.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: So you can check out the article in our show notes if you'd like to see who else is on the list and give all of those podcasts a listen.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Another thing we did this year, if you are unaware, we launched our Facebook group, the Making the Impact Dance Competition Podcast Community.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And shout out to our over 1,000 members.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Woo!
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: We just reached over a thousand members in August.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: So thank you for pushing us over, our recent fans.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: We've just had a blast talking to everybody and having a really nice uh place to discuss things about dance competition.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: And it does feel more like a community, I think, than some of the other dance forums out there.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Probably because we know a lot of the people.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: But, you know, we're all sort of united in the fact that the podcast is like a central, you know, location and it's a nice meeting space for kind of like-minded people to chat about, you know, what's going on in the competition world.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: So if you are interested in joining that Facebook group, look us up, Making the Impact, a dance competition podcast community.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: You'll answer just a few questions that kind of give us an idea of who you are in the dance world.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: And we keep records and notes about who's in our group, you know, so that if we needed to say, oh, somebody said something about this one topic they were asking about, we can look it up in the group and we know who you are.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: And, you know, we can reference you and help you out if you were looking for specific information.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: And it's been a really great way for more people to discover the podcast by launching this Facebook group.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: It's been a fun way for Leslie and I to communicate directly with people.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: On our podcast, we have a QA episode usually each season, and sometimes people will submit questions anonymously, which by the way, in our Facebook group now, you can ask anonymous questions in the Facebook group.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: So join in and ask away.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: And we have all majority of our IDA judges are involved in the group as well.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: So you might get an answer from a judge, you might get an answer from a dance teacher, you might get an answer from a dance parent, but you can remain anonymous, which is a really cool feature that Facebook just recently launched for their group.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: So join us there.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: We'd love to interact with you, and we're going to be hosting some exclusive opportunities in the Facebook group that is only available to its members.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: So we'd love for you to join us there.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: We ran our now annual podcast cover art contest this season, the summer, to find the new faces of making the impact.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: We had over a hundred entries from dancers across the country, uh, really, probably around the world, I'm guessing, at this point.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: And you guys chose the, you know, the fans chose.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we had voting.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: It was it was a really cool process to choose our new winners.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: And the new faces that you'll see on our podcast cover art are Charlotte.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: She's a dancer at E Street Dance Academy in Edgewood, Maryland, and Paige, who dances at Claremont Academy of Dance in Claremont, Florida.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: And we love, we absolutely love the new look.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: If you haven't ri noticed, there are new dancers smiling at you on your podcast cover art as you tune in to this very first episode of the season.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So congrats to every single dancer who participated in our contest.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: It was it was not an easy decision.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: And obviously, like Leslie said, y'all picked your faves.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: It was all about votes for the final two winners.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: So congrats to everyone.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: And we love that this has become an annual contest, and we are gonna have new faces for season four.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: So be sure over the summer next year to apply then if you'd like to be on the face of making the impact.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: ID's virtual competition had great success in 2021 overall, and we had a total of six events between March 2020, the start of the pandemic, through May 2021, with over thousands, with thousands of participants and over a dozen different countries participated throughout all of our events.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: And we are considering bringing it back if you would like to see it.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: So, what we need from you, all of our listeners, all of our fans, all of our supporters, if you want to see IDA's virtual competition come back in action in the fall of 2021 or as we head into the 2022 competition season after the new year, shoot us a message and let us know.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: We would love to hear from you and just know that you're interested.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: If the demand is there, we will make it happen.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: But we're still kind of up in the air at this very moment on if we're going to be releasing any additional event, a virtual event date.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: So definitely stay connected with us on social media and give us a shout-out and let us know if you'd like to see more virtual comps.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: You can always utilize IDA's online critique service that is still available as as it always has been for single in bulk orders to get uh feedback before a competition, to just get feedback about a certain piece if you are just looking for more, more advice, more input from an outside eye.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: That is a service IDA has always offered and is always available to you.
- 17:54unknown: Yep.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Our critiques start at$35.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: They're available year-round, and you will get a standard critique and you have the option to get additional feedback from your judge where they will go in depth from beginning to end, start and stop your video and provide close to 15 minutes of extra feedback.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: So feel free to send those solos or group dances our away before you hit the stage this season and use IDA's online judges critique service.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: All right, Courtney.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Well, we've covered what has happened.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Now let's cover what is coming up in season three.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: We have a lot of new things coming up, which I'm really excited about.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: And one of the first things that is new, which you will get to experience immediately after you listen to this episode, is our brand new studio spotlight episode.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: So this season, we are now going to be featuring dance studios around the country who we feel are making an impact.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Whether they are a brand new studio who has already had have a huge following, maybe they're a studio that have been around for decades, or they might be the new kids on the block, they might be just kind of getting their feet wet in the competitive dance world.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: But we are picking a very precise group of studios to sit down and chat with to hear all the ins and outs of how they run such a successful business, how they schedule their training, what their schedules look like for their dancers, and so much more.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: So today we actually launched our very first Studio Spotlight feature, and that was with Molly Long of Project 21.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: It's a fantastic episode that I know everyone will enjoy.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: So immediately following this, listen, be sure to hit next and listen to episode 67, Project 21 Studio Spotlight.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Another new thing for this season is our QA episodes, QA with Courtney and guest usually, will be running bi-monthly.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: So since we have added our new studio spotlight episodes, you know, we decided to pull back a little bit on our QA's.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: But that just means that the QAs will be even more special because there will be fewer of them.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: So be sure you always uh stay up to date with our social media because we will post in the Facebook group and just generally on our social media when these Q ⁇ As happen, because they do happen live.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: So you are able to join in while they're being recorded and participate in real time.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: And then they get turned into a podcast episode for those people who were not able to participate live.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: We would love for you to participate in the podcast.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: And looking at the calendar, I'm gonna give you guys an update that hopefully, and don't quote me, but hopefully, I mean, you're gonna have to quote me because this is on a podcast, but we're looking at a November QA with Courtney Live on Facebook, just to give you a heads up, as that's our very first one of the season.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: So you have a little bit of time to wait.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: But one exciting feature that we're going to be adding to our Facebook group is we're going to be incorporating more live QA sessions directly for the members only.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: So if you're already in our Facebook group, we'll be scheduling a few here and there throughout the course of the dance season where we will just pop on and answer any questions that you may have for of 30 minutes to an hour's time where you can participate and you can uh be involved.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: And maybe those might be turned into episodes down the road, or maybe they'll just stay within our podcast group.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: So if you want to have access to even more QA episodes, then don't forget to join our Facebook group, y'all.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: We want you there.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: So another new thing that we're going to be adding this season is an opportunity for all of our fans to help support our podcast.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: As you know, we've been doing this for two seasons.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: And although we do have a handful of sponsors that are involved in our show, which we love and support so much, and we couldn't do without them, we wanted to extend an opportunity for our fans to continue to support us by buying us a coffee.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: So if you would like to donate to our free resource, which is Our podcast, all of this beautiful information that we provide to you on a weekly basis every Thursday throughout the dance season.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Then head over to the link in our show notes and click on support us now to buy us a coffee.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: You can make a donation to support our podcast as little as three dollars or whatever donation you would like to offer to us.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: We are so grateful for any and all support.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: And we love providing this to all of you listeners and fans.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: And it will just help us be able to produce a quality show for you.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: It goes straight into the podcast.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: So we would love for you to support us there.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: And speaking of sponsors, we have a bunch of new sponsors this season.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: We're super excited about them.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: And we are also still looking for a few sponsors to be a part of Making the Impact.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: So if you're a dance business, if you provide a dance service and you'd love to sponsor the podcast, get the word out about your company, we are a wonderful resource for dance parents, dance educators, dancers.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: You know, as we said earlier, even to date, we have over 80,000 downloads, which means there's 80,000 opportunities for your business to be advertised to directly to your target market of dancers, dance parents, dance studio owners.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: So if you would love to be a part of this, you can shoot us an email at podcast at impactdanceadjudicators.com and we would love to have you on board.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: We also like to let all of you listeners know that we are very specific with which brands and sponsors we bring onto our podcast because we want the brands and services to represent and reflect the niche in our industry, which is specifically geared towards competitive dance.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: So all of the sponsors that you do here on our podcast are hand selected by us and our brands and services that we truly believe in.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Just FYI.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: But another fun thing is that we're actually looking for podcast guests.

- 24:42SPEAKER_01: And we would love to possibly include you on a future episode.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: So head on over there and apply on the form.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Well, today, very shortly, as you roll from this episode into our very next episode, which is our studio spotlight episode.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: So you are gonna hear all about Project 21 featuring Molly Long, the owner.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Make sure you just roll right into it.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: It's gonna happen right after this episode.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: So keep on going.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Don't forget about it because it's a good one.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: And you need to hear all of the fabulous advice from Molly Long about her studio.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: So we'd love for you to listen to that.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: But we have some other fantastic topics coming your way on the podcast.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: And I have a few favorites that are coming.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: And we obviously don't want to spoil all of our episodes that are coming in season three, but to give you a little taste at what's in store, I'm gonna share a few that I'm really looking forward to talking about.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: And my first one is the open category.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have an episode about that.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: I think it was Sam Quinn, who was on a QA live with me last season, who said we should totally do an episode about the open category.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: I think we were talking someone asked a specific question about where should I place this type of dance?
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: And then we kind of answered it, I think, saying open.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: And then he's like, Oh, that's a good topic.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: Because I think the open category, a lot of people like to just put either whatever there or like to just use it as another way to have another contemporary dance or things like that.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: So I think it's a an important genre that is only specific to dance competitions.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, I can't imagine anything else.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: You you don't go to like a ballroom competition.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: And or I'm just trying to literally think of anything else that just is a catch-all.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: You know, there's not like a gymnastics open.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know, like you're either doing bars or you're doing floor.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Like it is what it is.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: I know that like Star Quest back in the day when I competed at them, and I don't know if they still call it this, but they used to call the open category the wild card category.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Ooh, I like that.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: It is a wild card because it is a wild card.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: But yes, I'm really excited about that discussion.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: I'm also, if you've heard me talk about it before, I'm sure you have.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: If you know me as a teacher, I preach this all the time.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: How to dance in heels.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited about that one.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: And that one's not coming to us until the very tail end of our season.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: So you gotta stay tuned for a long time for that.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: But we're gonna talk about dancing commercially in heels, like if you're dancing hip-hop heels, and we're gonna talk about dancing musical theater heels, which is so important and even was briefly mentioned in future in previous episodes, but also in upcoming episodes, we talk about the importance of heels in all styles of dance and you're trying it into your training.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: So definitely an exciting one.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: And finally, my other, my final episode I cannot wait for is our top 10 studio habits.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: So that one's gonna be all about different things that we as judges see across the board from studios.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: And we're actually not really gonna get to that one until about mid-competition season.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: After all of us have been judging for a little while and we've been seeing a lot of the same studio habits, or almost pet peeve type technical issues that we see at studios, or things that studios do across the board that you might not even realize that you're doing.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: We're gonna tell tell it straight to you and let you know so you can be on the lookout.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: As you've come to expect from your kind hosts here at Making the Impact, we always will tell you like it is.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, we do, in a very uplifting and hopefully positive way, but we always will tell it like it is.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: We're gonna tell you like it is.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Well, Courtney, I'm excited about all of those as well.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: But I'm also pretty excited about the ballroom dance in the dance competition world topic that we have coming.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: You know, especially if you were headed to any of the convention competitions out there, yeah.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Many, many, many of those events are featuring ballroom classes as as just another option just next to contemporary, next to jazz.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: And so it's definitely something that's becoming more prevalent in the competition world.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: And I can't wait to, you know, speak with somebody who is from that ballroom world who maybe transitioned over or kind of bridges, you know, bridges the two worlds.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Cause I'm just really curious to see, you know, how that all translates.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, me too.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Super psyched.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: And then injury prevention is something we've been wanting to do for a while, especially with, you know, kind of similarly to ballroom.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Like these days, dancers are just the the skill level is off the wall.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: You know, like people are kids are just able to do so much now.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: But, you know, at the same time, doing more can sometimes, you know, lead to more injury quicker and younger.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: So um, we're excited to bring on some really great experts in the field of injury prevention and some some wonderful resources for dancers to be able to take home and kind of work on themselves so that we can we can grow dancers who are, you know, physically fit and super talented.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: And then finally, my last sort of piece of excitement for this season is something that was voted on by our Facebook group members.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: This topic of student choreography is something that y'all really wanted to hear about.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: So we are super excited to to bring you that topic.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I think a lot of us started out, you know, choreographing our own routines for fun at home.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: And, you know, a lot of a lot of teenagers these days are choreographing their own pieces for competition and everything.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: So trying to, you know, to see how how we can better help our younger choreographers kind of develop into to better choreographers as they keep growing in their training.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: These are all great episodes.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: And like we said, we have so many more that are coming your way in season three.
- 30:29SPEAKER_01: So I hope that you will hit the subscribe button and tune in weekly.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Our episodes launch every Thursday, starting now all the way through May.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Uh so much to listen to, so many great topics and fantastic guests coming your way on the podcast this season.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: And now that you know what's coming in season three, I'm excited to share what your next three episodes coming your way are.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: And first, like we said, is the studio spotlight episode featuring Project 21.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: You can head on over and listen to that immediately following this.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: Next week's episode is Crop Potential.
- 31:08SPEAKER_01: Can't wait for that.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: And finally, we're going to be having Dance in College on your way the following week.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: So that's a wrap for this intro for season three.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: We're excited to have you here joining us, and we will see you next Thursday.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: Till next time, keep dancing.
