- 4:13in season two. So we're not even gonna wait any longer. Come on
- 4:17up, Danya, and it's Latonia, but I Catania. I've got time
- 4:21for all that. Everybody call me Tanya. See see whole up now,
- 4:26everybody can't be me, so you know what I call you know, a
- 4:29stop girl. So welcome you guys to meet the host. Latonia is the
- 4:38host of the Layed but not Denied. And you guys, that's a statement
- 4:43all in itself, all in itself. So tell us a little bit about
- 4:48yourself. Not your show yet, but we want to know about you.
- 4:54Well. Uh, I am Tanya little John, forty five years of age,
- 5:02mother of two. Hold up telling you I just turned forty five in
- 5:09January and I had to pull you to because I feel old. Girl.
- 5:15Oh I feel it's married, not to marry meting it up, girl,
- 5:25tell me about it. But mother of too, grandmother of one, she
- 5:32is my world. Yeah, Arthur podcast host, I'm just me. I
- 5:44ain't nothing wrong with it. So I'm in Charlton, you guys, and
- 5:48you are in Spartan Bird. So we are going to really get to meet
- 5:55up this Friday. I hope you guys can come. We're gonna oh I'm
- 5:58coming. I'm coming, you know, meaning we have to talk after this
- 6:00because you know they changed the venue. Yes, yes, but I can't
- 6:06wait to see her in person. Gods, you just don't understand to have
- 6:11this beautiful, smart, intelligent African American sister from another mother who we talk
- 6:19on the phone afterwards and we text each other and to make sure it is
- 6:24just said beautiful and her spirit is just so lovely. And I see why
- 6:31you are the best hosts for your show, because nobody can use that show
- 6:38name but you and you know that right. Thank you. So tell us
- 6:44about Delayed but Not Denied. Tell us a little bit about your show.
- 6:48So Delayed but Not Denied. The title comes from my book, actually my
- 6:58very first book, Delay but Not Denied, the story of Tory. But
- 7:03my podcast, it's so much that can be said about that podcast. Like
- 7:14my platform is disabilities because I was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. But
- 7:20I've opened the doors for everybody because everybody's situation is not like mine. But
- 7:29everybody has a story to tell. Also, everybody has been delayed in something
- 7:36but still not denied in the other. So you know, we all got
- 7:43a story to tell So I've opened my my podcast to allow people to share
- 7:49their stories and heal, basically, get some healing from it. Nobody's perfect,
- 7:58and I mean, you know, I feel like where two are more
- 8:03gathered, you know, great things can happen. So and so you know
- 8:07how many of us saw together girl, Oh we God is great. That's
- 8:13coming out with right. Tell us a little bit if you don't mind about
- 8:18your disability. Like a lot of people are like, wow, I've never
- 8:22heard of that. Can you tell us a little bit about it? Sure.
- 8:26Spina bifida is basically where the the spinal cord isn't straight. It's it
- 8:37has a curvature towards the tailbone. For many people, it's called the snowflake
- 8:46disorder because it doesn't affect two people the same. There's actually levels to it,
- 8:56non severe, pretty severe, and some people they're not able to walk
- 9:05in our wheelchair bound. I am fortunate enough to walk and pretty much I'm
- 9:15independent. I do for myself, but it has its challenges because of the
- 9:22spine of biffia. I have issues with urinary incontinence and things of that nature
- 9:31that I have to be seen for periodically. You know, it's it's one
- 9:35of the things where I oftentimes feel like it's not normal, but it's my
- 9:43normal, So you know, I guess I was given this to show people
- 9:50that you can still live up fulfilled life even with the disability. The hydrocephalus
- 9:58is simply just fluid on the brain. I had to have a shunt placed
- 10:03in at birth and it drains the fluid off my brain and the bottom of
- 10:09it is in a valve behind my heart, so it drains behind my heart
- 10:13some somewhere it'll it'll never be taken out. They say it's not working anymore,
- 10:22so it's done. It's done it purpose, but they won't remove it.
- 10:26So so they keyword they say it's not working. That's not what God
- 10:35has to say. So well, if God doesn't want it to work,
- 10:37then it's not working. And hopefully, you know, with them saying that
- 10:43it doesn't work, I'm hoping God was in agreement with that. That means
- 10:46that I don't need it anymore. But however, I just can't get it
- 10:50replaced, I mean, well taken out. So that means the reason for
- 10:58it being placed, did it did its purpose? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 11:03that's the nice sense that I'm so proud, so what should we expect
- 11:09from season two. I'm like, any guesses that you have lined up,
- 11:18you know, just just what are your expectations for season two? So if
- 11:24I can be frank for a second, in this season that I'm in in
- 11:33my personal life, it hasn't been the greatest, so I feel like it's
- 11:43taking a toll on everything else. So I don't really have anything lined up,
- 11:50but I'm open to, you know, receiving what is meant for me
- 11:56because I know so many people have a story to tell and I want to
- 12:01help them get that story out. Again, I don't really have anything lined
- 12:07up, anything spectacular happening, but I do. I do feel a change
- 12:15in the atmosphere and I know it's gonna be great, and I'm just gonna
- 12:20move in it. Hey, how they say you let go and let God
- 12:26there you go? It might you might just be a vessel that he is
- 12:31placed there. But there is a reason for you being where you are.
- 12:37Absolutely absolutely so, don't take anything that you go through for granted, because
- 12:45I have learned so much from the things that I have been through, right
- 12:50I appli to those as I continue to go in life. So right now,
- 12:58you being delayed, absolutely it's never been there you go, So you
- 13:05remember that forget if you forget everything else, you remember that I know I
- 13:16know who I am, and I know whose I am, and you know
- 13:20everything everything's gonna hand out the way it needs to. And there you go.
- 13:28You have already told God everything will plan out the way it needs to.
- 13:33He's all right, cool, she already confessed that our angels, let's
- 13:37go ahead and make this with And it looks a little hard, yeah,
- 13:41but you continue to keep pressing, you continue to keep showing up. Absolutely.
- 13:48I mean it's storming, but he promised that I wouldn't get wet.
- 13:52So there you go. Plus you got a whole village of sisters that are
- 13:56behind you absolutely like you guys, we don't stop here. We just I'm
- 14:03on here, show you talk to you, bring you these wonderful, beautiful
- 14:07people. It doesn't stop here. There are times when we're texting girl looking
- 14:13here right on this list, because see, you know you play with it.
- 14:18There are times when we have there you go, we have other like
- 14:24that. Yes, and it's beautiful when we can do it right as African
- 14:28American sisters. No, you guys, I'm not saying that everybody doesn't do
- 14:35it. But we as African American sisters, have this stereotype that being caddy
- 14:41and that we can't that, you know, us being African American women,
- 14:46we can't come together in a peaceful manner and lift each other up. We're
- 14:52supposed to tear each other down and things of that nature. But that's not
- 14:58what any of us are here for. No, we're bigger than that.
- 15:01Bingo. I don't have no problem, my sister. Your crown to to
- 15:05this side. Hold on, let me let me let me get your right
- 15:07okay, hold on, hold on, you got a little caught. Let
- 15:11me let me get a little jail. Let me slick that to the side
- 15:13and make you look good. Right there you go. You guys, we're
- 15:16gonna take a break, and you know my show, the second half is
- 15:20the fun question. Mm hmmm. So I hope you're ready. So we're
- 15:24gonna take a break and we're coming back with little Tanya delayed, but not
- 15:31deny. Come back, you guys. Turn off the light tonightlemen, met
- 16:08let's take a shower shower together. I was abnded. You was my some
- 16:27ut wealthy and save Jace. Turn off. Come to girl. I want
- 16:49to give you a special treat. You're so sweet turn on. You know.
- 17:00I think she played that because she knowing our shows. We sitting back
- 17:03here dancing, Yo, Teddy Teddy gets you in trouble, Teddy making more.
- 17:11But that right was like Latania, I'm coming to Spartan Bird. You
- 17:25don't pack lunch. No, I'm not the pack of lunch. Pack like,
- 17:33you ain't gonna feed me girl, cook to sandwich. I can't even
- 17:42get a sandwich. I'll pick your sandwich. Okay, you think that sound
- 17:47So what what is it that you do for fun, Spartan Bird? What
- 17:51is up there to do? Mhm? Dodge bullets? Maybe? Yo?
- 18:00I've seen that on TikTok when they said what not to do with Spartanburg and
- 18:03it had Yeah, I see that. It's like overnight we made it to
- 18:08the top of the list of the worst. And I was looking. I
- 18:15was looking at a commercial where a new pastor has taken over I want to
- 18:23say, its first Baptist Spartanburg. And he's clearly not from here, and
- 18:30he was talking about how wonderful Spartanburgh is. I'm like, sir, what
- 18:33part of town are you all? Cause? Uh no, sir, but
- 18:37I was like, he's clearly new. But it is true because you guys
- 18:44took that title from here North Charleston. Absolutely one was for plenty of years
- 18:52years. Absolutely. I know now that things are changing because there's a lot
- 18:56of grassroots organizations that are now starting with minds of communication, uh activity,
- 19:07social gatherings, listening. I know we got the Whaling Project, you got
- 19:14mister Lewis, you got Uplift Chauston. So there's a lot y'all took that
- 19:18title. You know. I'm sorry, you know, thank you. We
- 19:23actually took it from Anderson because Anderson had it really bad. Oh wow,
- 19:29they were number one for a hot minute. But let's see, let me
- 19:36explain you guys. I am in the low Country. We both are in
- 19:40South Carolina. I'm in Chawleston, South Carolina. That's called the low Country.
- 19:44Technically I am in North Charleston. But Tanya is a spartan bird,
- 19:48and we called that the absolute it. You know what I can't so we
- 19:56called it upstate so Charleston. And then we have our producer. She's a
- 20:03myrtle beach, so she's on the Midlands. I think no, no,
- 20:07no, no, no, I think that might be Upstate. No,
- 20:11No, what did it called. I think that's Midlands. No, Midlands
- 20:17of Colombia. Oh, we have to figure that want out. Yeah,
- 20:22so we're watching TV, so you can't feed me? Can I can?
- 20:26I? Can? I please watch TV at your house? Absolutely? Okay.
- 20:30So what we're looking at? What you got? We got first forty
- 20:34eight. Since I'm in the middle of crime, USA, I might as
- 20:40well learn how to dodge a bullet. First forty eight. That's a that
- 20:45i'd be I can't look at I can only look at first forty eight during
- 20:48the day. So listen, let me tell you. Let me tell you
- 20:52first forty eight. For me, I don't really watch it for the sake
- 20:59of the people that passed away, but more so of how they get everything
- 21:06together to apprehend the person that did it. A lot of people don't know,
- 21:12but I found my biological family back in twenty ten. My adoption was
- 21:19closed, and you know, I used to walk around telling people, Oh,
- 21:25I do better research than the FBI. And you know that's one of
- 21:30the gifts I believe that God gave me. Like you, with most black
- 21:36people, well not most, some, you can hide things from them in
- 21:41plain sight. And you know, the little cliche is, if you want
- 21:47to hide something from a black person, put it in a book. And
- 21:55that's sad. That's sad. I ain't gonna preach that to the choir so
- 22:00many times, but it just goes to show how far back we've we've dove
- 22:08instead of moving forward. But yeah, I watched First forty eight. The
- 22:18detective in me wants to help them find these people, and you know,
- 22:23get along, get on with it, because the first forty eights don't always
- 22:29be forty eight. They the months and months. One show, one episode
- 22:34I looked at was like two years of the making. Absolutely, So if
- 22:38you don't mind, how did you feel when you met your biological family?
- 22:47Okay, so I have PTSD that I've had since I was a child.
- 22:57I remember being a die after eighteen months old. I'm forty five and I
- 23:03can remember back eighteen months old. It was it's been bittersweet finding my biological
- 23:18family. I prayed to God. My prayer was to allow me to meet
- 23:23my mother face to face before one of us passed away. So twenty ten
- 23:32I found her. We picked up like nothing ever ever happened. Like I
- 23:40look in the mirror and I see her literally, and I'm she I'm the
- 23:45middle child. I have an older brother. He was fine, so she,
- 23:52you know, she kept him. Me. I was born with the
- 23:55disability, and she had a disability, so you know, trying to maintain
- 24:00what she had going on and make sure that I had what I needed in
- 24:04life was hard. She was a teenager, young, well, early twenties,
- 24:10and you know, she had my sister when she was twenty four,
- 24:15I believe, but and she kept her because she's okay. But you know,
- 24:21I never questioned why, you know, why wasn't I good enough?
- 24:26You know, because I I've come to the terms everything just ain't meant to
- 24:30be and sometimes, you know, God allows things to happen to save your
- 24:34life. So wow, you know, huge, huge right there. Yeah.
- 24:45I mean I could look at it and say, why, you know,
- 24:48why wasn't I good enough? What makes them too better than me?
- 24:55Or you know, but how how fair is that to her? Because she
- 24:59suffered a low she gave me up, and so I wanted to enjoy the
- 25:03time that we had. She passed away February twenty fourteen, so we only
- 25:10had three years and eleven months together, So no questions. She can Actually,
- 25:18if if there was a phone in heaven, you could call her and
- 25:21ask her did I hound her about anything about why wasn't I good enough?
- 25:26She'll tell you no, I didn't. Wow, Mama. Yeah, because
- 25:33those answers. I mean, sure, you want those answers for closure,
- 25:40but they don't change anything. They changed nothing. They changed nothing. If
- 25:47anything, it adds salt to the wound, just sitting there, you know,
- 25:52picking up a scab that's been healed or whatever. So you know,
- 26:00it was an experience. When she passed away, the relationship with my siblings
- 26:06passed away with her. So and that's that's crazy because of the way they
- 26:15choose to treat me. It's but it is what it is. I don't
- 26:18feel a way about it because I was raised as an only child. You
- 26:22can't like hurt my feelings and make me feel some type of way when I'm
- 26:27not used to siblings. So I haven't talked to my brother in five years.
- 26:41But you know, I'm I'm open to it if they ever want to
- 26:44talk. But you know, but you act, you got a whole group
- 26:49of sisters right here for it, right, and so I'm not missing that
- 26:52on anything. I got nieces and nephews, and well, you can come
- 26:57get this niece right here, like you know what. I would take her
- 27:00in a heartbeat. Don't tell you did you give her back? I'm telling
- 27:03you, I promise you I won't. I got great heirs, y'all.
- 27:10I am only forty three. Girl. Yeah, you should see me curly
- 27:15in the morning. Here go a new one and she'll say something small and
- 27:18I'm like, yeah, three another one, proudly. I mean, listen,
- 27:23I've been where you're headed. I had my son, tam you said
- 27:29what I'm heading? M hm, yes, baby, you're just getting started.
- 27:33My son twenty nine. Ye, my son was beautiful. There's a
- 27:38difference between reason boys, boys and girls. Absolutely. When I got married,
- 27:45I gained a step daughter. She would beat me crazy if she heard
- 27:49me refer to her as a step But yesterday was our wedding anniversary twenty two
- 27:57years. So when we got got together, my son was three and his
- 28:04daughter was one, and they're literally like night and day, Like you tell
- 28:12him one thing and he does it, and it's could couldn't dry You tell
- 28:18her you you at circus of olla, like you going through twizz turns hoops
- 28:26and in that attitude, level me and my My oldest son is twenty one.
- 28:33I love my son. We sat down, we talk and we chill.
- 28:37When he was her age, she's nine now, he would we would
- 28:42call ourselves going on dates because I told him, I said, the first
- 28:45love is going to be your mother, and I'm going to show you how
- 28:48you should treat a woman. And so he would order my food and it'd
- 28:52be so sweet this one here, chick right there, yo, and naya
- 28:59king what mom? You just don't put the table with all the energy and
- 29:04don't let it be the wrong side of the morning m five o'clock prayer.
- 29:10I have to go back and listen to it again earlier. I'm sorry,
- 29:15i'na be nice yell, but but listen, I've been there and she's U
- 29:19turning twenty six this year. So you will live to fight another day.
- 29:25All right? That's all I need. I need that encouragement. When you
- 29:29guys, you have to end it tonight. You have to tell us worry
- 29:33about it your Facebook? When is your show? How they can be on
- 29:38your show? You know can skip a starting down so you can follow me
- 29:45on Facebook at Latanya Michelle little John. I'm a person. I like my
- 29:52middle name, so I make sure it's it's out there also on Instagram.

- 31:30Let's Pass Friday. That's her book, Wet Dreams and the Wet Dreams
- 31:36Be Wetting. That's The Wet Dreams Be Wedding. And you've heard that from
- 31:42sc Bookyald. Now there's some things that had to take off. But I
- 31:48would say if you're if you just need some poetry, don't even don't even
- 31:59say them, let them do, let them clutch them pearls. Okay,
- 32:01girl, okay, you see that book, you can't wear pearls. That's
