- 0:20listen to our show. We're the evid indoorsmen at home are on the go.
- 0:26We're the Avid Indoorsmen. We hope you love it, so come on
- 0:32in and stay. We'll do our best to make you smile with the indoors
- 0:38man. What is happening? I'm Rob Lindquist and I'm Be and we're the
- 0:47Avid Indoorsmen. Oh my god? Hello, welcome, welcome. How are
- 0:52you ah doing great? Pal? How are you so good? I can't
- 0:58remember the last time we chatted. I know it's been a minute. It
- 1:00was the eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind. We finished up the Juary June.
- 1:07I think we said some texts after that, but nothing. I know
- 1:11we've talked. I just don't remember. Yeah, anyway, I've been great.
- 1:15Did I talk to you since I've come back from camping? Nope?
- 1:19Camping was lovely. Tell me about There was lots of mosquitoes, but we
- 1:25had a place to hide. From them. So it was fine, o
- 1:29lovely weather and just gorgeous lakes and northern Minnesota. It's beautiful up there.
- 1:34Was it just a tent that made you get away from the mosquitoes? Did
- 1:38we bring in a screened in a screened intent to like hang out in in
- 1:44addition to like the regular tent to sleep in? So okay, we're not
- 1:48roughing it big time. I mean, that's really rough in it for me.
- 1:52But yes, I get what you're saying. The because you have to
- 1:57use like a I don't know what you would call like an outdoor latrine,
- 2:01so it's basically just like a stool over a hole in the ground back in
- 2:06the woods. That was not great with the mosquitoes. There was some quick
- 2:13poops, quick poops, quick poops in and out, gang in and out.
- 2:16You know, you don't want to hang out very long. So that
- 2:21was the only part that was tough. But otherwise it was it was great.
- 2:23It sounds like a very I don't know, strenuous vacation. You just
- 2:30have to you got to lug everything in. You got a lot of walking
- 2:34ahead of you. It's like serious hiking. But also, did you guys
- 2:37have a canoe? Yes, but this one actually wasn't serious hiking. It
- 2:40was like we walked maybe a mile total with all our stuff as that terrible
- 2:49and we paddled for maybe like a mile and a half total maybe, So
- 2:53it was actually pretty easy as far as this one. The last one was
- 2:58much more intense than I was, like, I don't mind this. This
- 3:00is good. This is good, this is good. It felt just as
- 3:05busy, but yeah, it was. It was fun. They people get
- 3:07real serious about it, yeah for sure, and that I don't think I'll
- 3:12ever be that guy. Yeah, I think I could do it. You
- 3:15you did, but it's still I mean it's still it's not it's not easy.
- 3:19Yeah, but it's fun. Good. How about you? What have
- 3:21you been up to? We were down in the Villa of Nash, of
- 3:25course, was there for a week. We did c M a fest.
- 3:29We are getting Adam Bastein all figured out that fun, which is very exciting.
- 3:38We shot a couple music videos. Yeah, you know, we try
- 3:43and jam pack as much as we can. Yeah, in there for sure.
- 3:46But it was a good week. That's great. Yeah, I love
- 3:50that. And you're going back before too terribly long as well, right in
- 3:53two days, just too we have a couple of gigs. We have a
- 4:00show in Lima, Ohio. Oh, Lima Delicious Exactly the day after that
- 4:05we have it'll be the Opry, which will be Adam Bastine's second time singing
- 4:12with us. Wow, that friend there. Yeah, yeah, that's great
- 4:16though. Yeah, it's gonna be great. Oh yeah, I don't worry
- 4:20about him even a little bit. We got we did a bunch of rehearsals.
- 4:24He sounds amazing. Yeah, I'm excited to sing with him. It's
- 4:28gonna be fun. That's cool, man, love. Yeah. Have you
- 4:30been watching any movies in this time? I have, thank you watch some
- 4:35stuffhile I was down there, But I'm going to talk about the movie that
- 4:39I went to yesterday. I was even texting with you and our guest about
- 4:44what we're going to do for this episode during the movie, but I brought
- 4:49the kids out. It was a rainy day yesterday and we saw Inside Out
- 4:54too, and it was wonderful, how lovely it was wunning her fault.
- 5:00I didn't cry as hard as I did in the first one, but it's
- 5:04still very sweet. I love how it visualizes emotions for a young person.
- 5:15They add some new ones so this girl is now going through puberty is the
- 5:18whole thing. Button comes back into button and so new emotions like jealousy and
- 5:26embarrassment, and the big one is anxiety, and anxiety is Onui is also
- 5:32in there, yes, but anxiety is voiced by Maya Hawk who she's been
- 5:40blown up and she does a really great job. It's wonderful. The kids
- 5:46really liked it. There was one kind of stressy part that kind of made
- 5:49Charlie little stressed. Okay, but it's really cool and they do these fun
- 5:56like play on words like they did in the first one. I know,
- 5:59I don't want to give any of them away, but they're really really fun.
- 6:02Yeah, yeah, if you like the it's so imaginative, and I
- 6:06feel like it's really good for kids too, just so they can see how
- 6:11things are working in there. And if you liked the first one, it
- 6:15would be pretty tough to not like this one. And if you don't like
- 6:18either, you're a monster. You're a monster. I don't want to know
- 6:21you. But yeah, that's lovely in the theaters. If you're interested in
- 6:28checking it out, that's lovely. But I'm sure it'll be on Disney Plus
- 6:30soon. What have you seen most recently. Well, the kind of the
- 6:33part of the reason I wanted to ask you is I was wondering what you
- 6:36would talk about first this very day I saw inside out to you as well.
- 6:40No, you did not, I did. I went with a post
- 6:44and his kiddos, the two boyos, Oh my gosh, and we went
- 6:47to the Because it's a kid's movie, they have like a five o'clock so
- 6:50I was like, wait, I can do that. It's I can totally
- 6:54do it. So, yeah, I was playing coy you did you gotta
- 6:59be good? Where did you guys go? Did you go up by his
- 7:00neck of the woods or no? He came down to a Roseville. That's
- 7:04kind of the closest one to him too, lucky for me. Yeah that
- 7:08works out well. Yeah, so it was fun. The kids loved it.
- 7:13We had a nice little time. I hadn't seen them in a lot
- 7:15of while, so that was cool. And yeah, I mean basically all
- 7:18the same things you said. I really loved it. I thought it was
- 7:21great. I agree. I didn't cry quite as much as the first one,
- 7:26but it definitely had its moments. And then, oh crud, I
- 7:33was going to look up her name, our gal was also the Voyeurs,
- 7:38right ao ed Biri. Yeah she was jealousy right, yeah, envy,
- 7:43jealousy whichever the one. I don't remember what the right names are, but
- 7:46yeah, so that was fun. But yeah, the cast is amazing.
- 7:49I'm totally with you, like all the new things they added, because I
- 7:55was kind of like, how are they going to do this and make it
- 7:58feel fresh while also you know, sticking with what worked right, But they
- 8:03totally found a way. Dude, I think it's great and amazingly. Like
- 8:09the whole time, I was like, these kids are loving this and they're
- 8:11talking about some serious stuff. Yeah, great, that's really cool. I'm
- 8:18with you. I think it's really neat and I wonder that they feel like
- 8:22movies that will stay with those kids forever, Like I feel like your kids
- 8:26like will shield their kids, you know, someday ors you know what I
- 8:28mean, Just like, oh, I remember watching that and it was so
- 8:31great and whatever. I just think it's so so lovely. It was lovely.
- 8:35I will if we ever do a pod for this. My hottest take
- 8:39is that she is so quick to just forget about Minnesota. Don't let people
- 8:45know she's from Minnesota. I'm like come on, Minnesota, come on.
- 8:50Yeah, she's she is quick, that's for sure. So wait, which,
- 8:52is there a way for you to tell me which part was too scary
- 8:54without giving anything away? Nope, I can tell you afterwards. Okay,
- 8:58I don't want to give it away on here. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 9:00totally fair. I just but yeah, I overall I thought, I just
- 9:03think those movies are brilliant. So I loved it. I agreed, that's
- 9:07so fun. I'm glad you saw it too. Yeah, it was great
- 9:09and it was selfishly lovely for me to be able to see it in a
- 9:13theater and not feel like a creepy man because I was there. My friend,
- 9:18I'm going to call you for those that would be really fun. Yeah,
- 9:22I would totally. I think it's super fun. And I think it's
- 9:24like the kids get real jazzed, you know, and like it's it's great.
- 9:28So yeah, that might be my new thing. I might just be
- 9:31like, hey, friends, if you're ever going to a kiddo's movie,
- 9:33let me know, I'd be happy to tag along, especially the Pixar ones.
- 9:37Dude, Like, good, you know, if one of the kids
- 9:41needs to go to the bathroom, you don't have to worry about that then,
- 9:43because like someone can just hang out, you know, as long as
- 9:46they're comfortable being with me. But like most of the kids at least know
- 9:50me well enough that it's fine, you know what I mean. So it's
- 9:52like fun. But yeah, it was lovely. How about streaming of even
- 9:58streaming anything? So I mentioned I was in Nashville. Yes, I had
- 10:03my first Zany's experience. That is the comedy club there. Yeah, and
- 10:09they always have amazing comics. I've never gone before. I have never gone.
- 10:15I've never thought about that. That's crazy. I've looked it up so
- 10:20many times while I've been down there, and it just has never worked out
- 10:24totally. But I saw Dusty Slay was on during the week and I had
- 10:28to go check it out. His set was awesome. But to get prepared
- 10:33for it, Adam Rupp and Luke and I watched his special on Netflix and
- 10:37I think it's called working Man. Yeah, it looks like I just saw
- 10:41a picture of that working Man. Yeah, yeah, and it's really good
- 10:45man. He's great. So I was familiar with him because he is on
- 10:50the Nateland podcast with Nate Bargetzi. Gotcha, that's how I know that name.
- 10:54Okay, totally. There's four of them that talk, and actually another
- 11:00guy that's on that podcast was also there that night, which was kind of
- 11:03fun. Did he opener or something for him? There was four total comics.
- 11:09It was like Dusty Sligh was the host and he ended the fun and
- 11:16he was so good. Dude. Yeah, like he's already got all new
- 11:20material. You could tell he was starting with material that wasn't like super polished,
- 11:28but then as it went on, it was like, Okay, this
- 11:30is where he's saved the hits for the end. Exactly true material. But
- 11:37yeah, dude, but his specials really fun too. And he's got a
- 11:41bit about his ted talk that he did that completely destroyed us, and it's
- 11:48wonderful. But I would definitely check it out. It's it's funny. It's
- 11:52like an hour on Netflix special cool cool man. That's awesome, So check
- 11:58it out. What are you been streaming? Something slightly less fun? I
- 12:03streamed the Hulu documentary I guess the Brats documentary. Have you heard about this
- 12:09at all? Yes? I have. That's crazy. I should say.
- 12:11It's not like super depressing or anything, but it's it's a super interesting thing.
- 12:18So they're in the eighties for folks that don't know, there was this
- 12:20the group of young actors that they called the Brat Pack. And basically this
- 12:26is a movie done by Andrew McCarthy who was one of the Brat Pack,
- 12:31and he's basically talking about that Moniker and that group of people and how it
- 12:37affected his life and everyone's life that he can. There's a couple people he
- 12:43doesn't get to be on it because they, I would assume just didn't want
- 12:48to mess with it. Kind I saw Molly Ringwold and Judd Nelson didn't do
- 12:52it. Yeah, yeah, and the Judd Nelson without giving anything away as
- 12:56sort of a running thing Molly Ringwold that sounded like was just like a rd
- 13:00no, Like no, I'm just gonna move forward and I'm cool. Yeah,
- 13:03you know. But it was actually it was actually very beautiful and super
- 13:07interesting. It was a little I felt like I wasn't quite the target audience
- 13:11because I didn't or we didn't really go through those movies with them. I
- 13:16mean we knew of them, but like I wasn't aware of culture at that
- 13:20point to be like, oh, they're like the big thing, you know,
- 13:24Like they were just in a lot of movies like people five years older
- 13:28than me were probably Yes, I think that's right. I think that's right.
- 13:31You know. So, like I felt like I missed it, but
- 13:35it was super interesting and just it kind of starts out as like this was
- 13:41unfair of them to do this to us, like, and it turns out
- 13:43that they weren't like all super good friends. They just happened to be in
- 13:48a couple movies together and then you know, they kind of got coupled together,
- 13:52but turned into something really beautiful, I thought. And it was really
- 13:56fun to see these folks come together and just talk about that part of their
- 14:01life and what's happened since, and because a bunch of them haven't seen each
- 14:05other in a long time, so it was really interesting. But Andrew McCarthy
- 14:09is sort of the lynchpin of all of it, and he's the one going
- 14:13around and then also making and I think directing the movie as well. But
- 14:18I really liked it. I think it's worth the I think it's an hour
- 14:20and a half or something like that. I think it's worth the checking out,
- 14:24especially if you like movies and pop culture and things like that. I
- 14:28think you'll enjoy it. You've been rocking the docks lately. I know,
- 14:31I don't know why. They've been tickling my brain just the right way.
- 14:33So they're fun sometimes, yeah, yeah, every once in a while,
- 14:37like I like the ones that aren't super depressing too. Yeah, you know
- 14:41what I mean, some of them, And not that that means they're not
- 14:46important at all obviously, but it's just like damn bro heavy, I caah,
- 14:50yeah, I can't just be sad all the time. But uh yeah,
- 14:56so they've been fun and I recommend it, and it's on Hulu.
- 14:58I think I don't remember if I said that. Okay, Hulu, nice,
- 15:03let's do some plugs. You went first, I have to say the
- 15:07plugs. Now, you guys can visit us. That's always on the Twitter
- 15:09stream. We're at Avid Indorsman with a Z or you can go to Facebook

- 15:39a bunch of perks, and one of those is getting a shout out at
- 15:41an eight heaters. So let's give it up for Marsha Greasy, a Comery,
- 15:45Fox and net Walk, Ley, Ruth Coo, Audio Hambroasted and Jackie
- 15:50Houston, Deborah Olk and Noel Flores. That was like interesting, Well,
- 15:56you see we're behind the beat there for a little while and a little bit.
- 16:00Yeah, I had to turn the page as it were. Another perk
- 16:07we like to give our patrons as an extended version of every single episode we
- 16:10put out. We call it our podcast and chill version, and we'll do
- 16:14a top five draft that pertains to the movie we're talking about. And we
- 16:17finally got there. We're there. It's our top five. It's a real
- 16:22one favorite Tom Hanks movies. Woo woo woo, Tom Hanks. I got
- 16:30fifty five to choose from. Did you count yours? I'm nowhere near that
- 16:34I did count them, But what was it? I think I'm at like
- 16:37thirty five. You've seen twenty more tomb Eggs movies. I really went all
- 16:42in on Tom Hanks. I saw a lot of the old ones that most
- 16:47people haven't seen, and I think you've seen more of the new ones that
- 16:49I have as well. If that makes sense. Yep, it does.
- 16:53I've said too much. We'll get into more of that later. But needless
- 16:59to say, thirty movies is a lot to choose from as well, so
- 17:02we're gonna have it's gonna be a deep draft deep. We could have had
- 17:06a lot more guests on for this one. Battle good to waste it on
- 17:10one where we have just one person, So that's good. Good. He'll
- 17:14never come up again though, I'm sure so, but yes that it'll be
- 17:18a ton of fun, so stay tuned for that. We have a different
- 17:21movie come up next that I don't remember, No I do, I do.
- 17:25This one is finally happening Anchorman, The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Run
- 17:30Burgundy, dude, and buckle up for that one because it's gonna be It's
- 17:36gonna be something. We're gonna be charged up for that one. And now
- 17:38we're gonna do Anchorman. These were two movies we talked about the very first
- 17:44week we ever talked about doing this podcast. It's true and even from the
- 17:48beginning we were like, even if we stopped doing this immediately. We're gonna
- 17:51do those movies at some point, so like we're checking them off the list,
- 17:55which I love, love it. It's gonna be a delight, So
- 17:57stay tuned for that, give it or a watch if you'd like. But
- 18:00we're here today to talk about a fabulous movie celebrating thirty years as well.
- 18:07Be nineteen hundred and ninety four Forrest Gump, Ladies and gentlemen, and we
- 18:12decided we need to get our most athletic friend. A man can run.
- 18:18I know, I didn't want to go the other way. I mean I
- 18:22wanted to desperately, but I couldn't do it. But this is a man
- 18:26who runs. I mean just everywhere he is running, and he's lovely and
- 18:32you guys know him, you like him. Give it up for Chris Chatham.
- 18:37What's up Chatham? Ah? Man? You know that's all everything has
- 18:44happened. Everything is kind of joined forces to make this moment possible. Oh
- 18:49you know what I mean, Like it's everything culminated. That's the word I
- 18:52was looking for. Did you go to Berkeley? Who told you? Are
- 18:59you serious? Is? Yeah? No, I mean there's no real evidence
- 19:03of it or anything like, I don't I don't p se have a like,
- 19:07it didn't matter that. No, it's fine, it's just it's just
- 19:11what I went to and it's for the listeners. We can see his diploma
- 19:18from the Berkeley College of Music. Yea, even did I even get a
- 19:22diploma from my call? I don't know that. I did my folks pretty
- 19:27much. That was like se proof, thank you a lot of money.
- 19:36The joke was, though going to Berkeley was like it was always the people
- 19:41who didn't graduate that made it, you know, like John Mayer went for
- 19:45like two weeks and everybody who was so the joke was, if you graduate,
- 19:48you aren't going anywhere. So here we are here, we are just
- 19:52h just on the endorsement podcast talking about just people are going to hear this
- 20:00middle aged musician live with his mom. That's what I'm doing. I was
- 20:06like, yeah, that's right, hands off, ladies, right well,
- 20:15I mean, I think you're killing it out there. If you get my
- 20:18cious music and go to patreon dot com slash Chris Chatham do it right now.
- 20:22He spelt like chat Ham, So go check that out, dude.
- 20:26He is so talented, you guys. Before really we started this, he
- 20:30played us the Forrest Gump theme, and I told him we can't afford that,
- 20:36can not do it again. Yes, but just let me tell you
- 20:40it was really pretty. It's actually very gorgeous. I mean, I know
- 20:44you're very talented, but it never stops being like, damn, he's good.
- 20:48I like it. I like that. This is a great podcast to
- 20:51come on you guys. You know it's really well it stoking the ego with
- 20:55Robin. Oh, that would be good. I'm a natural hype man.
- 21:00I swear I'm ready for it. I'm ready for it hyping things up as
- 21:06well. You guys can go to tim Fast music dot com because you're going
- 21:08to be a part of some backyard bash stuff going on soon. Oh yeah,
- 21:12we got Vetfest information that's going to be out soon, and then the
- 21:15Oregon Getaway. Is that right? That's true, all of those things,
- 21:18And I'm looking forward to it because it's like a we never really know what's
- 21:25going to happen there, like we have a kind of an idea. And
- 21:26I never asked him who else is even performing. I'm just like, I
- 21:30just want to be surprised, like the next guy. You know, I'll
- 21:33show up and some crazy person is there, like the one of the I
- 21:37was like two, maybe the second one we did. That's right here,
- 21:41you could say, but I mean it's just fine, man, Yeah you
- 21:45both have done it. But were you to say we're just it's like the
- 21:48second or third birthday bash we did, and like one of the one of
- 21:53the Ocres boys showed up and was like, hey, yeah you got and
- 21:56hed like stay by me with us, and I was like, what is
- 21:59happening? I don't think I ever heard that. That's good, was it,
- 22:03Dwayne? Yeah, he just texted and was like, hey, what
- 22:07are you doing. I was like, awesome, man, I've only met
- 22:10him a couple of times, but he just seems cool as hell. Yeah,
- 22:11it's really real funny. Yeah, so that's what I like. It's
- 22:15cool man. Yeah. Well there'll be all kinds of cool stuffs, So
- 22:18go to Tim Fuss Music dot com for that, but make sure you go
- 22:22to Patreon first, and you can go to patreon dot com slash the ABD
- 22:26endorsement. If you want to see a picture of his diploma. You know,
- 22:30that's up to you. Yeah, it's guys, Yeah, not the
- 22:34one you're thinking. He has an i Q way over seventy five I'm we're
- 22:37talking two to three new rules. So you got it. You know what
- 22:42I'm talking about. I do know what you're talking about right now. To
- 22:45get your mind out of the second. It's pretty impressive. There's no way
- 22:52verse to seventy five seven point five point seven five. I'm not whenever,
- 23:00You'll see, I'm just I didn't think I would take that long. So
- 23:06whenever, whenever he says something super dumb, yeah, he pulls this out.
- 23:12Here's the thing now, watching this movie, I feel like I had
- 23:17to really understand it. That's why I do this. He's got his MENSA
- 23:22card, Dude, it's upside downside down. Oh sorry, yeah, we
- 23:32need to do it like a crossword puzzle together or something. Yeah. Well,
- 23:36the thing smart people are good at probably a smart people are good at
- 23:40it. What it's good for me is that it makes people wonder why I'm
- 23:42so dumb, you know what I mean? Like they already are like this,
- 23:45I let him go, and then they're like, but now there's no
- 23:48real explanation, So kind of a reverse Forrest Gump, like he is is
- 23:52technically dumb, but like very wise and you anyway, let's move on.
- 24:03But in practice day I don't know. I had a very hard time doing
- 24:07your intro coming in here, because you know, usually I go off and
- 24:11say silly things connected with the movies, but I didn't want to. I
- 24:15didn't want to go down that road. Oh that's fun. I think it's
- 24:19great. Yeah, yeah, Well, I'm excited to talk about this movie.
- 24:23So let's uh, let's forego any further delay, and Rob, can
- 24:27you get us started with just a rough SYNOPSI sure, okay. Slow witted
- 24:33Forrest Gump has never thought of himself as disadvantage, and thanks to his supportive
- 24:37mother, he leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating on the grid
- 24:41iron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam, or captaining a shrimp
- 24:48boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. But one person Forrest cares
- 24:52about most, maybe the most difficult to save his childhood love, the sweet
- 24:59but Troubled Jenny Jenny jen A. I love that read the interest. I
- 25:07questioned several things, like the sweet part. I don't think she's sweet at
- 25:12all. No, I don't think That'll probably come up a couple of times.
- 25:17Probably, let's hear what other folks have to say. Let's go to
- 25:19Rotten Tomatoes here. Critics had this coming in at a really upsetting seventy six
- 25:26percent. What my guess is that that it has gotten lower over the years.
- 25:30I feel like it was critically pretty great when that's what I've Yeah,
- 25:36I have some trivia later for that that I found. Oh yeah, wow,
- 25:40it's yeah. I was really surprised by that number. So that's it's
- 25:45interesting to hear, and I like I like that take on it because audience
- 25:48members are sort of right where I thought they'd be at ninety five percent,
- 25:51which is obviously super solid. Like, yes, hard to get a whole
- 25:56lot higher than that, but I think we should, we should really dig
- 26:00in and find out what we think it's time for our heart takes. Hot
- 26:03take, that's a hot take. That's a hot take. I've got the
- 26:11runs, Jenny Nice. That shrimp is so spicy, Oh shrimp, that
- 26:15would have been great. Yeah, but my shrimp boat, it's running hot
- 26:23take. I will go first on this one. I like this movie a
- 26:30ton. I am closer to the audience members and probably even higher than them,
- 26:34honestly than the critics. I think that critics score is pretty ridiculous.
- 26:40I feel like I've heard a lot of negative things about this movie lately,
- 26:45like people being like, you know, it's not that good, it doesn't
- 26:48make sense. It's very like kind of like Pollyanna, you know, like
- 26:52he just he comes out smelling like roses every time, And I I don't
- 26:57get that, Like I don't like movies that are just sad and morose just
- 27:02to be that. Like, I feel like life is already that way at
- 27:07times anyway, So sometimes we need art to show us, you know,
- 27:10the beauty and things. So yes, like they're convenient things that happen in
- 27:15this it's super implausible all these things. But I think what this movie does
- 27:19really was it shows us right with sort of the like the unjudging eye of
- 27:26a kind of perpetual childlike character, just all the changes that we go through
- 27:32as a society through a chunk of time, and this chunk of time in
- 27:34the in US history, there was a ton going on, which was super
- 27:38interesting. And I actually really even on the rewatch, I liked that part
- 27:44a ton more. This movie really touched me this time. We're going to
- 27:47talk about a lot of other things in that. It was nice to see,
- 27:52especially we're sort of in our we were kind of for a long time.
- 27:56Breaking Bad brought us to like the anti hero portion of pop culture.
- 28:00Now we're in like the succession. Everybody's just a dick bag with no with
- 28:04no like redeeming qualities. It was nice to just have a person who's good
- 28:10and nice and not like scheming for something other than that. I guess he's
- 28:15kind of scheming for Jenny's affection, right, And we can talk about her
- 28:18as a character a bunch, but I think it came from a good place.
- 28:22He just he loved her and she was something in his life that he
- 28:26liked and wanted around. But he never has like ulterior motives, which I
- 28:32really enjoy. He's just a guy, right, He's out there doing his
- 28:34thing, and I think that's beautiful in a way, even if it's implausible
- 28:37also, but yeah, some just broader things. The score and the soundtrack
- 28:44of this movie are both phenomenal. Like the tunes they got for the soundtrack
- 28:48are obviously super bomb. Chatham, you played us the theme earlier and that's
- 28:52just gorgeous, Like I love that so much. It's just it's perfect.
- 28:56I think all the music that happens in it is perfect, And yeah,
- 29:00I just I really love this movie. I think it is nice to have
- 29:04things that are beautiful and good. Uh And I guess after doing some research,
- 29:11my hottest take is this might be one of the few movies that's better
- 29:17than the book. I've never read the book, but oh I heard the
- 29:19book is nuts like nuts like. He befriends a chimp as they are both
- 29:26in space, and the space shuttle therein breaks because the chimp throws a water
- 29:32bottle that's full of the chimp's pee and it blows out the circuits and stuff,
- 29:37and so it just gets crazy. And the second book is even crazier.
- 29:41So they actually showed some restraint in the ways that he interacts with history
- 29:47and stuff like that. I think that makes the sequel then, was Apollo
- 29:49thirteen. That's pretty much what you're telling me. Yeah, thirteen running in
- 29:55space and Dan couldn't go up there, he had to stay on the ground.
- 29:59So he's got those magic legs now, you know. Actually, another
- 30:04point I want to see. The CGI in this movie is really good.
- 30:07Other than the talking, the people talking in the historical footage is rough.
- 30:14Everything else is great. And Lieutenant's Lieutenant Dan's legs or lack thereof, is
- 30:18that's the best part, like perfect c G I wise, c G I
- 30:22wise, it's amazing. Yeah, I don't like like that he doesn't have
- 30:25legs. No, of course the CGI was incredible. Yeah, yeah,
- 30:30I thought. I remember at the time everybody freaking out about the footage of
- 30:34him like talking to the presidents and how lifelike it was. And we've we've
- 30:38come a long way. Yeah that doesn't age as well, which is problematic
- 30:42in its own way right with like deep fake technology and stuff now, but
- 30:47uh, anyway, I've talked too long. I think this movie is great,
- 30:49and I think sometimes we just need to allow for like beauty and good
- 30:55things in our lives. Love that take, buddy, that's a nice,
- 30:57fun smoking take. Forrest Gump was one of my favorite movies growing up.
- 31:04Hell yeah. It was nominated for thirteen Oscars. It won six for Visual
- 31:10Effects, Editing, Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor for Tom Hanks, Best Director,
- 31:15and Best Picture. Yeah wow, it did very well for Yeah,
- 31:18that's pretty good, okay. It is currently the number eleven film on the
- 31:23IMDb Top two to fifty list, and there's only there's two films that came
- 31:29out in nineteen ninety four that are ahead of it. Do you know which
- 31:32two they are? From? The Jurassic from ninety four was ninety three.
- 31:37That's three, yep, I mean, I definitely know. But the two
- 31:42that are above them on the IMDb top to fifty number one is Shawshank Oh
- 31:47yeah, and at number eight is Pulp Fiction nineteen four. There was some
- 31:52good stuff happening. I had some good like movies ninety four to ninety eight
- 31:56is like, yeah, I watched every single whole thing ever and still watch
- 32:00them, love them. Tell myself, I'm invited on your show. When
- 32:05they come up like all those, you know, I just go ahead and
- 32:07knock out whoever you're going to get. I'm there. Look, yeah,
- 32:13it's just how it's gonna happen. He just sends us a picture of the
- 32:15Berkeley diploma. That's all he says. Next you back and forth, you
- 32:24know. But yeah. It was directed by Robert Simchis, who's done some
- 32:30films people are familiar with. Back to the Future is big one. Yeah,
- 32:36who framed Roger Rabbit, which bugs is like fave ever, and then
- 32:42you just get a cool world that's a deep at least a few movies I've
- 32:51never heard that was Brad Pitt very early on. We have talked about that,
- 32:58but yeah, go on to team up with Hanks a few more times
- 33:01with Castaway and Polar Express. And he also did the newer Pinocchio, which
- 33:06I did not see, but we'll see it, so I have to check
- 33:08it out. I'll watch anything he's involved with, honestly, But that was
- 33:12one of those doppelganger movies because the Giermo del Toro Pinocchio came out and then
- 33:16that one did, and I was like, oh, I'm going to watch
- 33:19the one was so good to crazy, like you maybe shouldn't watch that one
- 33:23with kids, right, but right, like the Jack Cross Jack Frost thing,
- 33:28remember that, Yeah, one of them, though I didn't see.
- 33:32Definitely, it's really good, a ton more than I expected. I bet
- 33:37it was cool. Sorry, no, you're good. The screenplay was by
- 33:42a very successful guy named Eric Roth, who's been nominated for seven Oscars winn
- 33:46he won for this film. Eric, Yes, uh, and most recently
- 33:51he did Dune. But he's really great at making screenplays from previous material,
- 33:59unless you ask any want who reads books, and then they all mad at
- 34:00him, right, but always pretty much always, they're almost always worse to
- 34:07be touched on Alan Silvestrie's score, It is beautiful. I was shocked he
- 34:12didn't win the Oscar, but that was a lion king. So Hans Zimmer,
- 34:16can you do? It? Would be tough because I mean just right,
- 34:22Yeah, every score of that year would be insane. Yeah, they're
- 34:25all incredible. But I love the story and how he weave throw out big
- 34:30moments in history and was actually involved somehow. The acting performances were all wonderful.
- 34:37There are a bunch of quotes I say from this film. Yes,
- 34:40whenever someone says Alabama, which is quite a bit since I'm bandmates with Adam
- 34:45Chance, who's from there, I have to say it, like Forrest,
- 34:49I'll Abama, Yeah every time, every time. I love this movie.
- 34:53It hit me really hard during this rewatch, I think even more than it
- 35:00used to say. I was boohooing pretty good at the end, but my
- 35:05hot take you already alluded to it. Jenny has to be one of the
- 35:07worst love interests of all time. She just keeps leaving him over and over,
- 35:13then finally hooks up with him, leaves, doesn't tell him he has
- 35:16a kid until she gets sick and knows he has to take care of him.
- 35:22She's the worst, He's the worst. Could I counterpoint slightly totally?
- 35:29Maybe it's a good thing that she didn't want to be with someone who is
- 35:32clinically developmentally delayed. Maybe that's a good thing. I don't know for sure,
- 35:38but like I get it, she still did bad things and ultimately,
- 35:44and I mean ultimately they were together as friends and like family members more than
- 35:49lovers, right, But I just I don't know. Maybe it's okay,
- 35:53but you're girl, like really lean for a girl, but not kill her.
- 36:06Sucks kill her? Yeah, the bulldozer. Yeah, but yeah,
- 36:13that is my hot take, Chatham. I'd love to hear your take.
- 36:16My Yeah, it's hard to have a hot take honestly, but mine would
- 36:24probably be the same thing because I just really really don't like how that how
- 36:29she handled things, you know, and it was just yeah and everything from
- 36:34you know, just it's like I've you know, I just I just don't.
- 36:37I don't like that because what you feel for this guy, and you
- 36:39know, but there's something why wouldn't she tell him that he's got a kid?
- 36:45Like that's the hardest one. Yeah, and there's you know, that's
- 36:50good and you can go back and forth and be like, well is he
- 36:52ready for that? Like would it be a would be right? But could
- 36:58not actually be his kid. But he's really smart, raised by Forrest because
- 37:02he's the dad the kid deserves, not maybe not as real dad. I
- 37:06don't know. I don't know the kid's smart. I don't think it's his.
- 37:09Did did you see how they watched television the same way? Right?
- 37:14They both right? Yeah? It was more effective than DNA. No the
- 37:23Yeah, I don't have any It's funny that I went through the same thing
- 37:29you guys did. Rewatching it. It was like way more just hit him
- 37:34harright and right in the chambers, just like I was worried. You know,
- 37:37I've watched it kind of recently, so I was like, when we're
- 37:40getting ready, I'm like, boy, I hope this is okay by then,
- 37:44because this is is rough, you know. I was like, let
- 37:46me get some Yeah. I was just something in both eyes. It's fine,
- 37:55but I just I love to start finished. I just you know,
- 38:00yeah, the things he's responsible for in history, because you know, that's
- 38:02funny and how accurate they were with it, and I my I guess my
- 38:08hot take would be now for people people watching it now being annoyed that he's
- 38:14playing you know, kind of mentally challenged thing like that that could be a
- 38:19real that could be a real problem for people. I'm like, yeah,
- 38:22but it's acting and he's not having a hard life. Like it's just there.
- 38:29You know, it's a glorification if anything. But it's just like,
- 38:31hey, everybody can everybody can do it, and I don't. The other
- 38:37thing I don't like is when people are all up in arms about when something
- 38:40isn't realistic. I'm like, it's a movie, guys. You just watch
- 38:44do it. You just watch doing and we're like this is the best thing
- 38:46ever. I'm like, right, so, like can we let him do
- 38:52the Watergate thing? Is that cool? Like don't worry about it, Like
- 38:53it's he was there, that's cool. You know. I don't know.
- 38:58And they based some of the stuff, you know, and like nobody ran
- 39:00across the country through every real kid did that, so you know, which
- 39:05is crazy. Yeah. I'm like I will say too, like legitate,
- 39:07I get that these aren't like he's not the one that called a reported Watergate.
- 39:13I understand that, but it's like my knowledge of Watergate partially is from
- 39:17this movie, right, Like it is a way of teaching a history,
- 39:22you know, as long as people know that that's not one hundred percent factual,
- 39:25Like you're still getting some like timelining context with that, right, which
- 39:30I think is helpful. Yeah. I got a ton of my current current
- 39:34event knowledge from South Park, so I have no idea what's going on right
- 39:37right, Like that's just it's real. Yeah, So anyway, that's my
- 39:45thoughts pretty much. Yeah, hot take baby, hot, Okay, trying
- 39:52to give you more. I love that. Let me move on. Let's
- 39:57let's talk about our favorite acting performance, and let's pick the dude. The
- 40:01dude. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you know
- 40:07that or his dude miss or duder or you know el dud reno if you're
- 40:13not into the whole brevity thing. We got this one, Chatham. I
- 40:15mean, it's who you think, because I just I was even trying to
- 40:20look for other but there are a ton of great performances, but Tom Hanks
- 40:23is just I mean, come on, like everything from I don't know,
- 40:30like the details and the way his face comes across in certain scenes and just
- 40:34yeah, the processing and like everything is there. And they always say,
- 40:37like when an actor is you're playing kind of like less intelligent than you are.
- 40:42You played at the top of your intelligence kind of idea, and it's
- 40:45like he's that's as much as he can get and he has to keep that
- 40:47in there the whole time and do this ridiculous accident and be you know,
- 40:52and yeah, not wink at all, Like he has to take it like
- 40:55he's the straight man for the entire movie, even though he's ridiculous, Like,
- 41:00you know, he has to just kind of everything everybody else is crazy
- 41:05with Tanta. Dan is crazy, Jenny's crazy, and he's just got to
- 41:07be like I'm here, you know. Yeah, it's kind of amazing.
- 41:12It never comes across as a farts even really for a minute, right,
- 41:15not at all. That's pretty wild. Actually, yeah, to me,
- 41:19it's believable. I was going to say. The other thoughts that I had
- 41:22was like, when you know someone who wants to know how the magic trick
- 41:24is done, you know, I never ever want to know. I just
- 41:28want magic to be real. So I'm gonna like, yeah, yeah,
- 41:30whatever you need, I'm not looking for how unrealistic. I'm like not,
- 41:34I'm here to be amazed. Yeah, So yeah, I think he's quite
- 41:43good. He is. Yeah. Yeah, he went back to back oscars
- 41:47pretty pretty good at that's wild. Yeah, yeah, he took a big
- 41:52swing as forrest. With that voice, he could have been pretty bad.
- 41:58Yeah, we could have not been able to get past that voice. But
- 42:01it worked and he's stuck with it the whole time, and it worked.
- 42:06He did a great job. It's interesting that that voice is so cartoonish and
- 42:10still like that doesn't affect the believability of it, you know what I mean,
- 42:14Like we're all like, yeah, he took a big swing, but
- 42:16he's not. It seems it doesn't seem ridiculous every time. It just seems
- 42:21like that's him, right, he stays in it. And yeah, he
- 42:25was able to be charming and funny and he broke my heart a few times
- 42:30clearly the dude. Yeah he's the dude. H Well, it's a clean,
- 42:36sweet and honest to god. Like I don't need any I know this
- 42:38is going to come up during scenes, but I'm just going to say it
- 42:42out as well. Uh, when he meets his kid, that is some
- 42:47of the finest acting, like and the depth of that character to be able
- 42:53to ask the questions. Yeah, I just think I asked the question in
- 42:57a way that that character would and it's h It's perfect. I mean I
- 43:01love it so much and it it really does kind of like let us peek
- 43:06behind the veil of like Forrest does know all these things people are saying about
- 43:09him for his whole life, right, but he's just kind of moves past
- 43:14it or whatever. Yeah, but in that moment, you know, he
- 43:16can be vulnerable and ask that question. And man, I just like that
- 43:22acting alone is the dude for me? Right, not to mention, I
- 43:25think he's really funny in parts. I think he's super like lovable. I
- 43:29think he's you know, all these things right, Like I believe everything he
- 43:34does in this movie in a movie full of like unbelievable feats, which is
- 43:37pretty wild. Yeah. Yeah, he's just the best. I just love
- 43:42it. I think it's such a great performance. Yeah, totally. Well,
- 43:45let's hit some of the supporting roles and let's go and hit the two
- 43:49world, Titchy, this one for me? Yeah for you? Yeah.
- 44:00Uh, I'm gonna have to stay in a very predictable manner and say Gary
- 44:05sonize for me, bro, because I mean, he just had to do
- 44:09so many different He's a kaleidoscope of emotion in this thing because he's going through
- 44:15his own personal journey on the background, and truthfuly, Jenny is too,
- 44:19but for me, he's he's more there than Jenny is, so you see
- 44:23more of what he's processing. But yeah, from the very beginning when he's
- 44:25just a very you know, cocky top guy and turning into this you know,
- 44:31broken man, and then coming out of all of that is like,
- 44:34that's rough, you know, and to watch it kind of unfold, I
- 44:37was like, he's he's doing a great, great job here, just you
- 44:42know, that's me. Yeah. I love he got nominated as well.
- 44:47He was fantastic and this was kind of right, was just nominated. Okay,
- 44:52Yeah, I think this was the year Martin Lando one for ed Wood
- 44:57and everybody was like, wow, really weird. It was probably kind of
- 45:00a legacy. Yeah, but yeah he was like rocked this out. And
- 45:07then about thirteen and yeah, Ransom, he was Yeah that was a fun
- 45:14one. Ye, But yeah, I would absolutely picked him. My runner
- 45:17up would have been Sally Field. He so great as Forrest's mama, she
- 45:24sure did care about she sure did care about his education. I was trying
- 45:30to say the best I remember seeing they're pretty close to each other age wise,
- 45:37and like a few years earlier, they were actually love interests in Punch
- 45:40punchline. Yea, yeah, but it totally worked in this because she you
- 45:47know, they got her in like the old makeup when it's actually her and
- 45:51Tom Hanks and a lot of it was him as young forrests. Yeah,
- 45:54I totally it worked out really well, and she was wonderful, super good.
- 46:00She got me a few times. Yeah, she's lovely. That's great,
- 46:08though, sore the two people I would have picked, So now I
- 46:12have to pick other people. I'll say Robin, right, I mean,
- 46:14just off the bat, I know that character kind of sucks, but she
- 46:16did a great job with it. Did She has to go on a whole
- 46:21journey. I guess whether or not you agree with the journey is a whole
- 46:23different It's a different conversation made. You know, what's happened. It's not
- 46:29easy, you know, Yeah, I mean, and you know, like
- 46:30the the like sort of trite saying of hurt people, hurt people, right,
- 46:35So like she obviously had a very tough upbringing, so yeah, you
- 46:39know, she still likes the solid rock that he is and needs that but
- 46:44can't help you know, yeah, you just can't help who she hasn't has
- 46:47to run away and all the like. And it's it's cool from like a
- 46:51narrative piece that she tells, like the like sort of the counter culture narrative
- 46:57of you know, disco and rugs and you know, all the things and
- 47:00the hippie over the place, the flower power and all that stuff. Yeah,
- 47:07so I thought I thought she was really good. She was. I
- 47:10liked her alive. I always enjoy Robin right, she's yep, Yeah,
- 47:15she's wonderful, is it Mike Michelt Williamson Nicklety, That's right. I knew
- 47:21it was like a yeah, I know every time I read it, I
- 47:23know I read it wrong. But Bubba was great. I love him.
- 47:27He's not in this very much, which I did one hund remember he feels
- 47:31like a big, bigger part, which which seems he did a good job,
- 47:36very memorable role. And another role right that could have been sort of
- 47:39like farcical because he's a very big choice. You know, he makes a
- 47:45lot of choices, you know, with his big drawl and you know,
- 47:49sticking his chain out, you know, and his lip out a super far
- 47:52and all that stuff. I guess part of that might be just him.
- 47:55I don't know, but uh, I thought I think they actually put stuff.
- 48:00And another thing I saw was that he had a hard time getting roles
- 48:06after this because they kind of expected him to look like Bubba sure, and
- 48:10he doesn't. Sure. He's a pretty attractive guy. And that is funny
- 48:15because he they give him like way different teeth and stuff for Justified because he
- 48:21has a pretty big recurring part in Justified and he kind of has to play
- 48:25into that. So I wonder if that's why now, you know, know
- 48:29that you say that. I just I thought he was great and super believable.
- 48:32And again, like the people that Forrest really gets along with are the
- 48:37people that don't ask anything, like they just accept his kindness and then don't
- 48:45ask for anything more than that, I guess or something I don't know.
- 48:49They're just kind of like, oh, yeah, you're a good guy,
- 48:51we can be we could be palas you know, and just like go with
- 48:54it, right, I think, which I think is beautiful, you know,
- 48:58in its own right. So I think that's on that Bubba is like
- 49:00the one that's easy like, and they're kind of similar in that way.
- 49:06And every other character that's kind of involved in his life is way more complicated
- 49:09and like him to meet him to be like the sounding board or like the
- 49:15it's not life isn't so hard, like it's not so bad, We're good,
- 49:17you know. They kind of like Lieutenant Dan and Jenny both need him
- 49:21to be that. So he attracts those kind of people too. It's like
- 49:23Bubba's the one that could have been like just a friend, you know,
- 49:28but he had to go. So that's what they right, because that's a
- 49:31that's not great. But yeah, I just I couldn't believe that on the
- 49:35rewatch how how small his part really was, because I totally agree, like
- 49:39he feels like such a monumental part of this movie, and I guess he
- 49:43is right, like yeah, and it kind of made me think of life,
- 49:46right, Like you don't have to be in someone's life to have them
- 49:50really impact you for a long time either. So I think it's kind of
- 49:52a beautiful sentiment, you know, for real life too. Yeah, that's
- 49:57cool. Yeah. The only other person I wrote down was the acting debut
- 50:02of Haley Joel Osmond. Yep, he was good. He was great,
- 50:10Yeah, he was he was really good. And then he went on to
- 50:13do a couple of couple other big things. Yeah, it's like he had
- 50:15a sixth sense about what movies he should do, you know what I mean,
- 50:20Like because because he did, because he did, because he did sixth
- 50:24sense where he could do you so smart? He was like AI, you
- 50:29know, like he could m hmm. I wanted to edit AI. So
- 50:37I wanted to show it to somebody who had never seen it before and just
- 50:39cut out the whole ending of the dumb part of it, you know what
- 50:43I mean, Like where I was like he watched it like that because they
- 50:45had it like where it was Kubrick's thing, and then Spielbeg came in after
- 50:50and like finished the movie, but like the entire do you remember seeing the
- 50:52end of it like that? I've never seen AI. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 50:57go ahead, Well then I'm gonna do it for you. Then I'm gonna
- 50:59edit the thing it so that you can see it the way I think and
- 51:02I don't remember anything about it. So we're gonna have a good time.
- 51:06I'm gonna do it. We're gonna have a good time. Yeah, we're
- 51:08having chat them up with me to the dusty slight thing. Oh I love
- 51:15that. I think we should move on, you guys and talk about some
- 51:21amazing scenes. Let's pick our favorite scene, and let's pick the dings dingus
- 51:29so is quite simple, really, dingus ingus I could talk about my dingas
- 51:32all night long. I'm gonna kiss you. I'm just gonna say it over.
- 51:36I don't know anything. There's pet behind that one. I like it.
- 51:42I like it. I like to give when I can, Uh,
- 51:46you go first, chat them? YEA favorite scene? Man, it's hard
- 51:52because this one was tough. There's the I mean, if I'm going for
- 51:58just entertaining maybe laughs scene that's him jumping off the boat, still waving like
- 52:05I don't while he falls in the water. That made me laugh for a
- 52:08minute. Just so stupid and so wonderful because he can't wait, you know,
- 52:17he's got to come see him. And that's like the joyous scene.
- 52:22And then the other scene is the when he meets his son and you see
- 52:27all that face, all that he does, and I'm like, I don't
- 52:30understand how you can get that. How many takes did you do? I
- 52:32hope it's just the one, because how do you do that twice? You
- 52:35know? But those were my two that I mean, and I just oh,
- 52:42I'll talk about the other one later. I got a quote from that
- 52:44one, so I'll wait on that. Yeah. I also had that as
- 52:49well, and I kind of prefaced it that way as well. So that's
- 52:52my favorite like happy moment. Sure. Yeah, I think my favorite acting
- 52:58scene is Forrest talking to Jenny on her deathbed and then going from that talking
- 53:05to her tombstone Jesus and the monologue that he says in both like he's got
- 53:09two different monologues and they're both beautiful, Yeah, perfect, and yeah,
- 53:17same way. How do you say it in that voice? Like you have
- 53:20to keep it right? You know, he's emotional, but he I don't
- 53:24know. Also, just like I deeply love that his kid was like,
- 53:30don't read this letter, just leave it there, and he doesn't make He's
- 53:35just like there's no there's no way I would ever read, you know.
- 53:37And it's just like, you know, because I know my dumb ass would
- 53:42read it, you know what I mean. But there's something so innocent and
- 53:46beautiful about like honoring his child's you know, it's the throat line for him
- 53:53anyway to constantly be like he's he does the shrimp boat because he made a
- 53:58promise and it doesn't matter and all that. So yeah, that's him.
- 54:02Yeah, I love that so much, love it lots. Those were your
- 54:07two Rob yep, I mean I have a runner up as well. But
- 54:10what's your I mean I already said it, the is he smart or is
- 54:17he like me? Like, holy crap, dude, I just that whole
- 54:22thing. And then even her being like, Forrest, you didn't do anything
- 54:27wrong? Well, yeah, you kind of did something wrong, but we
- 54:30can get into that later. Jenny. Yeah, Jenny, that's even your
- 54:32real name, but also that is your real name. But also like her
- 54:39knowing him enough in that moment to know that that's what he's going to be
- 54:44thinking and be able to help him in a way that like not a lot
- 54:47of people help Forrest because he doesn't always need a lot of help, but
- 54:52you know, like that doesn't happen a lot in his life. So that
- 54:55was such a beautiful moment from both of them, and just I mean,
- 54:59he's just incredible in that scene. So I love that scene so so much.
- 55:02I also love so hard what's that? Just cried so hard much.
- 55:08It's I was a nightmare during this waiting for well can I uh, we're
- 55:15gonna need a part two just for that. But I also love the scene
- 55:20more in the funny part when he joins the army, and like his interaction
- 55:25with the like drill sergeant is the funniest stuff because he's just like, I
- 55:30don't know, you told me to and he' said, God, damn it,
- 55:32Cup, you are the smartest man I've ever met. He's a great
- 55:35soldier. He's a perfect He's just so straightforward and he's like, I don't
- 55:42know, he told me to do it as fast as I could, So
- 55:45I did you know? I was? I was gonna say, but that
- 55:49was like me and my dad, that was our fair scene together. Like
- 55:52he loved that, just like why did you put that woman together so quickly?
- 55:57This is the speed of it, and how mad he is that he
- 56:00put it together so fast. I just loved all of that a whole bunch,
- 56:04and the drill sergeant who was great to give him a shout out.
- 56:07I don't know what to name, but like but him just being exasperated of
- 56:13like maybe he wasn't such a waste of a great officer, you know,
- 56:15yeah, great soldier, You're gonna be a general some tag so funny.
- 56:23I was just I was laughing my tail after that. Great and then that
- 56:29as well, but also just we also get all the becoming friends with Bubba.
- 56:35Yes, the shrimp thing so so funny. He was talking about it
- 56:45for days and days. It's a wonderful stinger or like reverse stinger of him
- 56:51just being like, actually, actually I think that's about it. Yeah,
- 56:59so beautif's fresh, so funny, and it also just him you know,
- 57:04in Vietnam and saving saving all those yeahs pretty pretty great too. That's an
- 57:09intense scene, dude, like you never I think there's strivia about it too.
- 57:15But like Ve said, that was like a super They thought it was
- 57:19really well done because you never see the enemy and it just happens out of
- 57:22nowhere, which is apparently like very much what it was like in Vietnam.
- 57:27I guess, yeah. But yeah, just like it goes zero to sixty
- 57:30so quick, and then you know he runs, but he goes back because
- 57:35that's really who he is, you know, is like the person who wants
- 57:38to help. It's just because it's the right thing to do or whatever,
- 57:43you know. I don't know. Yeah, I love that scene. That's
- 57:45a super good call. Yeah, yep. Also much a much dumber scene.
- 57:50But the first bus ride scene and then tagged on with his kid getting
- 57:53on the bus, ye yeah, is like so beautiful. I love it
- 57:59so much, you know, just like he introduces himself, which is so
- 58:01sweet. Yeah, you know, and all that stuff. I just think
- 58:06it's so cute. And then but then also remembers to tell his kid that,
- 58:10you know, don't be scared, because I was scared. But here's
- 58:14what you know, here's the thing or whatever. You know. Yeah,
- 58:16I just love that so much, showing that he is a good dad,
- 58:20at least in that way. But you know, yeah, Rob, did
- 58:27you say you're runner up as well yet? Or no? All of might
- 58:30have been mentioned. Okay, cool, I'll throw one more unless you have
- 58:35another one, Chatham. I think that's good. Okay. My last one
- 58:39is just Lieutenant Dan screaming into the storm. I've always loved that scene.
- 58:44It's it's a much shorter scene than I really remember, but it's kind of
- 58:49like his whole arc, right, but him just like screaming and and just
- 58:53showing up and being there with Gump because he promised and it's the right thing
- 58:58to do, you know, Like that is Gump wearing off on him,
- 59:01you know, or being reflected through him, which I love. But yeah,
- 59:06just like him kind of surrendering, right, you know, and and
- 59:08all that stuff, and and it starts to like really live then, and
- 59:14I just think that's so beautiful. I love that. That was great.
- 59:16Well, and then they were the only boat and then they may shrimp.
- 59:22That's it's unbelievable. So I can't imagine why they made this movie. So
- 59:28dum wants to be that damned happy. Yeah yuck. Yes, well,
- 59:36oh, if we had to pick one, I got the problem with the
- 59:42at the end, Okay, I feel like we're talking about Lieutenant Dan coming
- 59:47back. Memorable. Whole thing is so great. I love that, so
- 59:53think we do that so good? And then we see the boat that Yeah,
- 1:00:06that's all right. Let's hit a very very quotable movie. I think
- 1:00:09we should to show me the money, Show me the money, show me
- 1:00:22show me the money. Did I do one? Did I get picked up?
- 1:00:24That's not my range. Let's take it from one, all right,
- 1:00:30show me the money. Got it? Why don't you say a couple of
- 1:00:37quotes, buddy, Well, I mean it's not I was putting down that.
- 1:00:39I mean two lines that were so ubiquitous everyone. Everyone was saying,
- 1:00:45run forest run everywhere. Oh speaking of is currently where a run forest run
- 1:00:52and it it looks like trees running, spruce trees place. Thanks it is,
- 1:01:06that doesn't matter, we can we'll fix it and post. But I
- 1:01:09love that that line was completely everywhere. And then yes, but maybe not
- 1:01:15as much as life is like a box of chocolates. Like It's just both
- 1:01:19of those were so everywhere that I couldn't you know. When the movie came
- 1:01:22out, I was I just sn l had bits about everyone was doing something
- 1:01:27with that. That's gonna be one of the most quoted lines of all time.
- 1:01:30Reason you have a bit where you liked to just mess up a quote?
- 1:01:36Was that you Chatham? I mean I thought you would always do that.
- 1:01:39It's like a box of chocolates, you know, Oh, I do
- 1:01:43like to do that. You're gonna get You're gonna get some that are different.
- 1:01:46That wasn't It doesn't seem like glorious. But I love that a whole
- 1:01:51bunch. It's kind of like what Biff does in Back to the Future mechas
- 1:01:55and you know, but yeah, just to you know, like good tree
- 1:02:00and get the hell out of here. Like I just love all of those
- 1:02:04kind of mixed up lines. I used to say, there can there can
- 1:02:07only be one. It could just be the only just the one to a
- 1:02:10friend who was a huge highlander. There hat just the one. That's all.
- 1:02:19It is, just that one. Nothing meets that one. That's the
- 1:02:22picture of Pat Patrick Stewart that says like use the force, Harry, you
- 1:02:24know, yeah, really great. The I liked so many. There's so
- 1:02:32many. There's so many. So from uh, when he's talking about getting
- 1:02:42shot in the butt, he said, I said, they said it was
- 1:02:44a million dollar wound. But you must keep that money because I ain't seen
- 1:02:46a nickel that million dollars. I love that line so much. I always
- 1:02:52have. And yeah, like it's the thing that he says something so dumb,
- 1:02:55it's so ridiculous, but you believe it. He shows, Yeah,
- 1:03:04I'm never seeing the nickel and money, so yeah, right in there.
- 1:03:10I I mean definitely the drill sergeant things I was talking about My dad and
- 1:03:15I would do that all the time. And uh, just things like after
- 1:03:21after just five years of playing football, I got a college degree. You
- 1:03:23know, like he doesn't he's not there for learning anything. He's just there
- 1:03:27because he can play. I was like, I believe that happens. He
- 1:03:32always has his way of saying something. And I always joking, U remindes
- 1:03:37something of a mom and I she's let me explain she is. She's always
- 1:03:45saying something that's like accidentally poignant, Like sure, she'll just say something.
- 1:03:50I'm like, you don't, that's a bumper sticker. You don't even you're
- 1:03:52not even being serious, like you're being literal about the thing you're saying.
- 1:03:55Like she said once because she gets lost all the time. She ended up
- 1:03:59in Virginia from our house of Pittsburgh because she just went the own way and
- 1:04:02didn't know. And she just said, well, whenever I'm lost, I
- 1:04:08just changed where I'm going and I'm not lost anymore. And I was like,
- 1:04:11what are you doing? That's that's that's a self help book, that's
- 1:04:16a biography title, Like I don't know what, don't you know she would
- 1:04:20say something like that and just be totally unaware that it's hilarious. You know,
- 1:04:26but he does that in this a bunch of times, Like you know,
- 1:04:30I used to run to get where I was going. I never thought
- 1:04:31it would take me anywhere, Like that's just like, that's that reminds me
- 1:04:38so much. Yeah, he invested in some to be in some kind of
- 1:04:44fruit company and called said, we didn't have to worry about money no more.
- 1:04:46And so I said, that's good. One least thing, one less
- 1:04:49thing, one least thing. That's yeah, that's just the money. We're
- 1:04:54good. We got it. Man. There's so many. Just the one
- 1:04:59that I loved was, uh, remember when Lieutenant Dan drags him out of
- 1:05:01the hospital bed. Oh, He's just like, you cheated me, You
- 1:05:04cheated out of my death. Do you understand what I'm saying. That wasn't
- 1:05:08supposed to happen, not to me. I had a destiny. I was
- 1:05:11Lieutenant Dan Taylor. And then he's just like you still Lieutenant Dan, you
- 1:05:15know, And it's just like, yeah, ship, that is exactly what
- 1:05:19he needs to eventually hear, right, But yeah, it's just so yeah,
- 1:05:26it's yeah, you just need that. Yeah, Dan says to him,
- 1:05:31you found Jesus yet I don't know it's supposed to be looking for him.
- 1:05:35That's such a good though he does. Yeah, just everything like that
- 1:05:44when she said yeah when she Jenny says, I'm sick for us, and
- 1:05:46what do you have coffee to cold? Yeah, you never caught that this
- 1:05:56watch. He's commercials. That's all he knows. Anyway, that's a lot
- 1:06:01of them. That's a lot. So there's there's still a lot of very
- 1:06:06memorable ones that you left for us. Stupid is as stupid does. Yep.
- 1:06:12Yes, that one said a lot, big time. One that I
- 1:06:15say a lot was I'm not a smart man, but I know what love
- 1:06:20is. Yeah. That one at the weirdest moments possible ordering Chipotle, We're
- 1:06:30talking about a pizza. What is happening with? What topics do you want?
- 1:06:34Sir? Well, I'm not a smart man, but I know what
- 1:06:39love is. Or yep. I always love the Me and Jenny goes together
- 1:06:50like peas and carrots. We was like piece and carrots. Again. I
- 1:06:57always loved that. Mama said they take me anyway. She said there was
- 1:07:00my magic shoes, magic shoes. I loved my uh. And then that
- 1:07:08leads into what's the line. Now, you wouldn't believe me if I told
- 1:07:13you, But I could run like the wind blows from that day on,
- 1:07:16if I was going somewhere, I was running. I love when he gets
- 1:07:24a little cocky about something. It's like my favorite version of him. Yeah,
- 1:07:30I was running trying to like surprise somebody with what he's going to say,
- 1:07:34Like he's like, wait for it, like talking to Bubba's gravesite and
- 1:07:38just being like you wouldn't believe it. But I was like, he's not
- 1:07:42there, like you don't have to. Yeah. I love just the My
- 1:07:49name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump. Such a good line,
- 1:07:55always good, such a good line. Yeah to your God, make
- 1:07:59me a birtwak a fly from here. Yeah. I always remembered that one.
- 1:08:04That's such a sad part of it. Yeah, that's all I have
- 1:08:12to say about that. What do you wow again? When he gets cocky
- 1:08:21about something when he's talking to the old ladies like Bob grumb shrimp, it's
- 1:08:26a household night, Yeah, it's a household night. Yeah. I love
- 1:08:35that so much, so we would sitting next to a millionaires. Yeah.
- 1:08:41Did you look and see what that guy's name is in the script? By
- 1:08:45the way, now he is called fat man at bench. Why can't he
- 1:08:50just be man at bench? You sounds a man at bench? She has
- 1:08:56that on the old resume. I hate and love that. I also love
- 1:09:02when he's like, so I went again and I met the President of the
- 1:09:06United States again again. So funny when I say a lot, Lieutenant Dan,
- 1:09:14ice cream, Oh man, he says, so ridiculous. Anytime I
- 1:09:18get ice cream with someone else, I also put it into a bedpan.
- 1:09:25Yeah I love it. Yeah uh sorry, I had to fight in the
- 1:09:31middle of your black panther party. So so good. I'm so happy the
- 1:09:42green Bow al Aarama feel very strongly about that line as well. I think
- 1:09:47it even made it into like a back in college, some choreography we did
- 1:09:53right rap like didn't we do Sweet Home Alabama? And we did like a
- 1:09:57hip thrust on Alabama? Okay, video proof please exists. Patrons are going
- 1:10:06to get something special. Bubba was my best good friend, and even I
- 1:10:13know that ain't something you can just find around the corner. Bubba was going
- 1:10:15to be a shrimp boat captain, but instead he died by that river in
- 1:10:18Vietnam. That's all I have to say about that. Not a funny line,
- 1:10:24but man, what a what a line? Like man to break it
- 1:10:29that way? So uh. Before that, there was Dallas from Phoenix Cleveland.
- 1:10:34He was from Detroit and text well I don't know where. I don't
- 1:10:40remember where texts come from. I love that because then it pans to him
- 1:10:44in the moment and he looks kind of like, yeah, where is he
- 1:10:46from? So stupid that I had never caught this one before. But when
- 1:11:00and he he goes like it's the one where he's reigning. He hits Jenny's
- 1:11:03date. Then she brings him into the place and he has a little accident,
- 1:11:09you know, and whatever, and he goes, I think I ruined
- 1:11:13your roommate's bathrobe. I oh, man, did he poop or something?
- 1:11:20Yeah, pooped, he pooped out the front. Tell you what t Is
- 1:11:31said. That's a good call. That's a good call. I said,
- 1:11:39lot everywhere too. Yeah, I don't think I've ever been in a home
- 1:11:43free like uh room where we're having a meal, or even just hanging out
- 1:11:46like a green room, and that hasn't been said, Like can't. I
- 1:11:55love that? And then just the last one that I have is almost a
- 1:11:59drunk be about fifteen doctor pippies say that one a lot? Yeah, I
- 1:12:02do. I got he said he had to go pee. The one that
- 1:12:11I kind of butchered it earlier. But your Mama show does care about your
- 1:12:15education, So you don't say much, do you. Hey, it's gonna
- 1:12:24say how that's similar to uh, rain Man actually like that same kind of
- 1:12:30thing happens now, yeah, another you know, but he's just, yeah,
- 1:12:34that's a good point, and like, huh, I know we said
- 1:12:39part of this, but I just have to say it. Come, what
- 1:12:42is your sole purpose in this army? To do whatever you tell me?
- 1:12:45Drill sergeant, goddamn it, Coup, you are a goddamn genius. That's
- 1:12:47the most saying the goddamn answer off ever heard. You must have been a
- 1:12:51cop, you must have a goddamn LIKEQ of one hundred and sixty. You're
- 1:12:55a goddamn gifted private. Gup, you're going to be a general something cup,
- 1:13:00whole thing. I was just cracking up that whole time. I love
- 1:13:02it so good. Yeah, his face, his face when he processes,
- 1:13:08like when the president wants to see his bullet wound. I think I like
- 1:13:13to just watching him, just watching for us figure out that he should do.
- 1:13:18He's like, well, he is the commander in chief and I have
- 1:13:20to do what they tell me. So I guess it makes me so happy.
- 1:13:28Goddamn son. All those scenes are good so good. I think we
- 1:13:33should move on because this is going to take a minute. We're going to
- 1:13:36go to bugs Bluehoo moments. Oh so I was pretty in my feels when
- 1:13:43I watched this. I picked thirteen. I picked a Baker's dozen, so
- 1:13:50Bakers doesn't the first one. Let's go through, Uh, forrest first day
- 1:13:56on the bus, the can't say he is, and then he heard the
- 1:14:00sweetest voice he's ever heard in his life. Big yep. And this one
- 1:14:08that was kind of a question mark. Yeah, the music's great, and
- 1:14:12the music great In this next one when he busted out of the leg braces
- 1:14:15and ran, No, you know, I kind of thought I would cry
- 1:14:19there, like hype tears if nothing else. But it didn't really get me.
- 1:14:24I hate those stupid ass kids so much. Yeah that I just I
- 1:14:28don't think I could do it. I don't know. It didn't get me
- 1:14:30surprised, all right, anger took over. Oh no, oh my god?
- 1:14:39Yeah, oh yeah, oh thank you. Yep, that one for
- 1:14:45sure. When Lieutenant Dan tells Forrest he cheated him out of his destiny to
- 1:14:49die with his men on the battlefield, Yeah yeah, still, Lieutenant d
- 1:14:54oh yeah, this maybe, But when he does his u beach at the
- 1:15:00at the Lincoln Monument there and then he sees Jenny across the pool and goes
- 1:15:08in there and hugs her. Yeah that did get me. I felt kind
- 1:15:12of cheesy that that got me. And then I was like, well,
- 1:15:14I know who I am. I don't know what works. I was like,
- 1:15:17just let it happens. Such a beautiful robot, you know. This
- 1:15:24one also not sure the I'll always be your girl. That did get me,
- 1:15:30even though I'm more with you guys than I at the beginning of like,
- 1:15:36yes, suck, Yeah it's a bummer, but yeah, this one
- 1:15:43was our dude, or excuse me, was our dingus. But I thought
- 1:15:47when you first see Lieutenant Dan come to Alabama and he jumps off the book
- 1:15:51because he's so excited, Yes, and then he has the like I never
- 1:15:58did thank you my life, you know, and he still doesn't, which
- 1:16:01I think is also like very Lieutenant Dan, But also he does because he's
- 1:16:06there right like he want you to know that I know that I didn't thank
- 1:16:12you. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, definitely got me for sure. Obviously
- 1:16:19when his mama dies, he's almost man and forest. Probably when he jumps
- 1:16:27in the boat off the boat right then, like basically crying from them through
- 1:16:31she died on a Tuesday, you know, like, yeah, the whole
- 1:16:34thing. Well, yeah, yeah, he hears the news and he immediately
- 1:16:39jumps in the water. That's a good looking around for us, which made
- 1:16:44me laugh a little bit. Actually, yeah, where am I I need
- 1:16:46to orient myself? Let's go. Okay, when she throws rocks at her
- 1:16:54childhood home when they're on their walk, yeah, I kind of forgot that
- 1:16:58little scene was in there, to be honest, but I liked it.
- 1:17:00Yeah, when, of course this was your your dingus. But when we
- 1:17:06meet Forrest Junior and find out he's the smartest kid in his class, my
- 1:17:11god, to hear what he's saying because I can't see them, I mean,
- 1:17:16yeah, is he's smart? Or because he hasn't finished the line he's
- 1:17:20like, is he is? He? Yeah? I can't even say it,
- 1:17:24idiot, I can't fathom being able to act like that. No,
- 1:17:27that's so No. No. When they decide to get married, Yeah,
- 1:17:35would you marry me? Forrest? Yeah? Yep. Then that horrible but
- 1:17:42unbelievable moment at the grave site, at the tombstone, he talks to her
- 1:17:45at the grave, I mean Jesus. Yes, yeah, so many boos
- 1:17:50that just one straight for the past twenty minutes of the movie, and then
- 1:17:56yeah, and then another one, just the I love you too daddy,
- 1:17:59and then the feather go was out of the book, and then and life
- 1:18:03floating around. Yeah, it keeps going. We're all just floating around.
- 1:18:09And his quote where he's like, I don't know if we each have a
- 1:18:14destiny, just floating around accidental, like on the breeze, But I think
- 1:18:17maybe it's both, Maybe both are happening at the same time. Yeah,
- 1:18:21I miss you, Jenny, anything you need I won't before. Yeah,
- 1:18:27what are you doing? Don't don't do that. He's so small, you'd
- 1:18:30be so proud. He's so pro crushing. So that was the thirteen I
- 1:18:38put. You know, it's only at twelve. You think there's another one.
- 1:18:42There's the one that I there's one when he says, will you marry
- 1:18:44me? And she's when he's that the I Know what love is? When
- 1:18:48he says why do why don't you? When he says why don't you love
- 1:18:51me? Jenny? Oh yeah, I was like, no, thanks,
- 1:18:56little bit, I don't love it, Like why don't you love Yeah?
- 1:18:59Yeah, like off of that. No, yeah, were there more.
- 1:19:05There were a couple more and these it gets hard, right because like whereas
- 1:19:11they breed into each other a little bit, especially yeah, like the last
- 1:19:15twenty minutes, yeah one of them. And we probably should have said this
- 1:19:18for a scene. But Lieutenant Dan when they have the two ladies on New
- 1:19:25Year's Eve, and he's like, don't you ever call him stupid? Like
- 1:19:29that's the first time really we see Lieutenant Dan be like a friend to him,
- 1:19:34you know, and and stops this situation that Forrest clearly doesn't like what's
- 1:19:40happening. And then you know, like people are berating him, and you
- 1:19:43know, like all these things right that Lieutenant Dan has also probably said to
- 1:19:46him, But in that moment he kind of turns the corner. I love
- 1:19:50that we'll see. I think it's so great it is, uh And and
- 1:19:54and he sort of gets it then, right, because he doesn't want to
- 1:19:57be called a cripple, just like he knows Forrest doesn't want to called stupid.
- 1:20:00Like it is just a thing in their lives. It is not the
- 1:20:03entirety of who they are anyway. All that stuff. But but oh,
- 1:20:11another one that got me was the lieutenant Dan when he comes to the wedding
- 1:20:15for like Tom Hanks's face as Forrest when he's like, you got new legs,
- 1:20:21new legs, and he's just like so happy and so like the exasperate.
- 1:20:28I don't know, like, yeah, the joy in his eyes that
- 1:20:31his friend is whole again. And it's also you know, emblematic, right,
- 1:20:35because he is whole, his whole both in that he has the use
- 1:20:40of these these prosthetic legs, but he's also a whole in that he has
- 1:20:44allowed himself to move on and live now, right, He's got you know,
- 1:20:46he let himself find love and and just all these things. I don't
- 1:20:49know. I just loved that, that whole little encapsulated nugget and it's so
- 1:20:55short, but man, I really loved that on the rewatch and I loved
- 1:20:59that, you know, when he said, when you become a shrimp boat
- 1:21:02captain, I'll be your first mate. Yes, also be an astronaut.
- 1:21:06Yeah yeah, yeah, So then you know he's got the titanium alloy or
- 1:21:12whatever. That that was pretty cool. I love that. And then the
- 1:21:16last one that, uh, and I guess maybe it's part of when his
- 1:21:20mom passes away, which we already counted, but just that line of Mama
- 1:21:26always had a way of explaining things to me so I could understand them.
- 1:21:30Was just like, oh yeah, you know, just like I don't know.
- 1:21:34Just that love that she obviously shows him his whole life is so because
- 1:21:39he could have had a way for your life if he didn't have cool people
- 1:21:42around there. Your parents, like your parents just thought you were an idiot
- 1:21:45and treated you like that. But she was like, no, you're You're
- 1:21:47fine, don't worry about it. Yeah, totally. So just a couple.
- 1:21:51So that brings us to I mean you really they really dovetailed right on
- 1:21:58each other. There's only one that I really missed was the New Year's Eve
- 1:22:03scene that you brought up truth. But I had said thirteen and one of
- 1:22:09them you didn't choose, So really it was thirteen. And it works because
- 1:22:15we talked a Paula thirteen again, like this is a there, it's a
- 1:22:18big things. They're both in the movie. They are conspiraence theory. You
- 1:22:27were going to cry thirteen times, Like yeah, yeah, there it is,
- 1:22:30so I think I love good work, but yeah, NIC's work.
- 1:22:33This is a cry movie for sure time And I jokingly put in my notes.
- 1:22:39I was like, I don't know, every three minutes, you know,
- 1:22:42as could be seriously, yeah, I could have been even more.
- 1:22:45I mean, oh, I said, I did put a note that the
- 1:22:48music is so good that I because you know the story of what happens.
- 1:22:51Yes, I hear the themes, and I started getting like on the opening
- 1:22:56credits, I started being like, oh, I was like, there's gonna
- 1:22:58be a long movie. Guys. First time I saw the Curious George book,
- 1:23:00I almost did like and yeah, yeah, And you go back and
- 1:23:06look, you see all the stuff in there, the ping pong paddle,
- 1:23:09like all of it, and you're like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:12I don't know the ping pong stuff. What a weird sidetrack that is?
- 1:23:15Yeah, it was crazy. It's even crazier in the book apparently. But
- 1:23:19let's talk some movie trivia. There's quite a few for this one, and
- 1:23:24I probably miss some even because I tried to keep it a little short.
- 1:23:27Let's see, when Forrest gets up to talk in the Vietnam Rally in Washington,
- 1:23:30the microphones are obviously unplugged and you can't hear him. But according to
- 1:23:34Tom Hanks, what he said was sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they
- 1:23:39go home to their mamas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at
- 1:23:43all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that.
- 1:23:45That's a crazy good line to not have, actually, right, And
- 1:23:51I always wondered what he said. That's pretty wonderful week. I was super
- 1:23:56happy to see that note for sure. Ever know, like what was said
- 1:24:00in Lost in Translations and a sudden league of their own, she'll never tell
- 1:24:05us? And then what the freaking name was in ever any story? Like,
- 1:24:09nobody's gonna know what that is. Yeah, you know, that's fine,
- 1:24:13It's it's pretty great. I actually liked that we know this one.
- 1:24:15Yeah, I think that's pretty great. So the studio when they imposed budget
- 1:24:20cuts, both Roberts and Mekis and Tom Hanks waved a large part of their
- 1:24:25feet in exchange for percentage points. I always heard about that, Yeah,
- 1:24:29which ultimately netted Hanks somewhere in the region of forty million dollars. So I
- 1:24:32think he did okay, good thing, It was just fine. I feel
- 1:24:35like he did that a few more times because they went so well. Like
- 1:24:40I feel like maybe he did that with like Toy story and then made like
- 1:24:44a goad jillion dollars. Yeah, but anyway, at that point, man
- 1:24:48crazy. Yeah, I just love this. I didn't notice this obviously,
- 1:24:54but when when Forrest first learns to play ping pong in the infirmary, he's
- 1:24:59told the trick is to keep keep his eye on the ball at all times
- 1:25:01by another soldier. After that moment, when he's shown playing ping pong,
- 1:25:05he never blinks apparently, which I think is pretty great. Yes, so
- 1:25:10good. Also, the cguy with the ping pong is really good. I
- 1:25:14didn't know that until now. Me neither. Yeah, I certainly never knew.
- 1:25:16The first time I watched, I was like, oh damn, he
- 1:25:19got good at ping pong. Crazy. With every transition of Forrest's age,
- 1:25:26one thing remains the same, and that's in the first scene. After every
- 1:25:29transition he's wearing a blue plaid shirt, which I just thought was there's people
- 1:25:33that think about every single thing you see in a movie, which I think
- 1:25:36is cool. Tom Hanks signed onto this film after an hour and a half
- 1:25:43of reading the script, but agreed to take the role only on the condition
- 1:25:46that the film was historically accurate. He initially wanted to ease Forrest pronounced or
- 1:25:53pronounced southern accent, but was eventually persuaded by Zamechis to portray the heavy accent
- 1:25:59stressed in the novel, and he patterned his accent after Young Forrest actually,
- 1:26:02who spoke that way in real life. And then, uh, just a
- 1:26:10bunch of people had serious doubts about the goofy accent, but Mechis really went
- 1:26:15to bad for it and it worked out. Apparently it's the one I think
- 1:26:17that's crazy, Like that Michae O'Connor Humphreys, who plays Young Forest, who
- 1:26:21was really good. We should actually mentioned him. I thought he did too.
- 1:26:27H He just had that voice, And apparently Tom Hanks was like,
- 1:26:30well, rather than have him change, why don't I just change? Like,
- 1:26:32yeah, what a flex? It helps, it helps it. That's
- 1:26:35a real accent. Like that's a person that has you know, yeah,
- 1:26:40it can ask him to say stuff or whatever. Yeah. The my name
- 1:26:45is Forrest, people call me Forrest Gump. Or my name is Forest Gump,
- 1:26:47people call me Forrest Gump was ad libbed by Tom Hanks while filming the
- 1:26:51scene, which I think is really fun and great. Yeah. The paddles
- 1:27:00or I'm sorry the ball was completely cgi, which is crazy let's see.
- 1:27:04The actor who plays the reporter on the scene when Tom Hanks visits Washington,
- 1:27:09d C. After his tour in Vietnam was an actual tourist from Atlanta,
- 1:27:14Georgia. He just happened to be on Capitol Hill that day with his wife
- 1:27:17and was asked to read which is crazy? Does that even happen? That's
- 1:27:23right? Oh. The real life inspiring event that led to the running scene
- 1:27:31was in nineteen eighty two, Lewis Michael Figueroa, who was sixteen, ran
- 1:27:38from New Jersey to San Francisco for the American Cancer Society, and he inspired
- 1:27:44a line for Forrest Gump's famous run on the silver screen. I put one
- 1:27:47foot in front of the other. It goes when I get tired of sleep,
- 1:27:50when I get hungry, I eat, When I have to go to
- 1:27:53the bathroom, I go. So they ripped that line off, which I
- 1:27:57thought I stole it. I guess I didn't. I guess it didn't care
- 1:28:00about school? Yeah, you know, yeah, what was this kid doing?
- 1:28:02Maybe ran in the summer so hot? Anyway. The necklace worn by
- 1:28:10Lieutenant Dan is a rosary with Saint Christopher or with the Saint Christopher Metal inscribed
- 1:28:15protect us in combat, and it was worn in Vietnam by Gary Sonie's brother
- 1:28:19in law in sixty seven and sixty eight. So I just thought that was
- 1:28:23a cool that's a cool piece of trivia. That's pretty neat. Magician Ricky
- 1:28:30j designed a special wheelchair for Gary Sonise that used an illusion to hide his
- 1:28:33legs, which were hidden on a platform underneath. Sorry, I know you
- 1:28:39don't like to know how the trick is performed, but telling the people that's
- 1:28:43fine. Yeah, but the contortion required to sit in it meant that he
- 1:28:49could only be in it for about ten minutes at a time. Otherwise it
- 1:28:51was super uncomfortable. So I just thought that was cool the different ways they
- 1:28:56got around all that, which is neat. Due to the success of the
- 1:29:00Dan's character, Gary Sonise has formed a real life foundation for Injured war bets
- 1:29:04which raises up to thirty million dollars a year and has twelve private jets which
- 1:29:09they used to fly veterans and and now like other sick kids and whoever needs
- 1:29:15them to various locations around the world for medical treatments and things like that.
- 1:29:19And he has the Lieutenant Dan Band, which plays a lot of gigs as
- 1:29:23part of that. Side note, I think your I think your bandmate Tim
- 1:29:27here has done a show for that. Yeah. Oh really is that that
- 1:29:31winned Warriors? Is the Yeah, I had heard right about the Lieutenant Gary
- 1:29:36Tim Gary Sonise was at the event. We were performing and it was back
- 1:29:41before the Home Free kind of took off and did the sing off and stuff.
- 1:29:44But yeah, Tim was doing a solo show in Vegas women and it
- 1:29:46was part of that. Gary Sneeze was there and it was cool. Crazy.
- 1:29:50Yeah, and that's a huge like that's a huge foundation now, yeah,
- 1:29:55that's everywhere. Yeah, that's really wild. Robin Wright was sick with
- 1:30:00a cold while shooting the nightclub scene. In spite of this, she was
- 1:30:02able to still perform her own singing during a NonStop twenty four hour shoot She
- 1:30:09Is Crazy, in which she was nearly nude the whole time. Such a
- 1:30:13small scene, Such a small scene, and about y Yeah crazy great name
- 1:30:17though, Greenbow, Alabama is fictional, but Bio Labattery, Alabama, Bubba's
- 1:30:26hometown is real. For those that don't know. Huh oh theough Mama always
- 1:30:34said life is like a box of chocolates. I never know what you're Gonna
- 1:30:36Get was voted number forty on the Quotes by the American Film Institute out about
- 1:30:42it almost seems low. Yeah, it does almost, But there's been thirty
- 1:30:46years of movies since I suppose now, right, so it gets harder.
- 1:30:50Yeah. I thought this was crazy because I always thought this was a given.
- 1:30:55But the virus that claims Jenny's life is not specified in the film.
- 1:31:00The directors Mechis never revealed what her affliction was, stating it was irrelevant and
- 1:31:05that he didn't even tell Robin. Right. Jenny says in the movie that
- 1:31:09the doctors didn't know what the virus is and they can do nothing about it.
- 1:31:12This information, combined with the time, made everyone think it's HIV.
- 1:31:15Right, that's for sure what I thought. But in the sequel, Gump
- 1:31:20and Company, which has there's some weird stuff with the Seaguel sequel, but
- 1:31:26he mentioned that Jenny died from hepatitis C contracted as a former drug addict in
- 1:31:30the seventies, right, Okay, yeah, so it could be that.
- 1:31:35But also apparently he wrote the second book to'd be even more outlandish because he
- 1:31:40was pissed that they didn't include everything from the first book in the movie and
- 1:31:45stuff, and he was kind of jaded about that. I guess, I
- 1:31:47don't know. I mean, take the money, I gu yeah, right,
- 1:31:53just I bet you're real mad when you're catching those checks. Right.
- 1:31:56Yeah, everyone loves this movie that I've stupid, Right, That's what I'm
- 1:32:00saying. Yeah. Tom Hanks revealed his favorite scene that was filmed was when
- 1:32:06Lieutenant Dan got new legs, as the scene was so powerful to him and
- 1:32:11it really came through for me. I guess because I saw that a little
- 1:32:13scene Forest never uses the word were saying was instead apart from one scene where
- 1:32:20Jenny on her deathbed says she wishes she were with him on his adventures and
- 1:32:26Florest replies, you were, you were? It was such a good line
- 1:32:30Ward in Heaven. Yeah, that was all the ones I wrote down,
- 1:32:33Buddy. I tried to keep a brief and he failed. I just had
- 1:32:36a couple the I've been to the park bench, or at least the square
- 1:32:44in Savannah, Georgia. The park bench is actually in the Savannah History Museum,
- 1:32:50so it doesn't get like weathered. Yeah, but definitely been at that
- 1:32:57square that went to a chocolate chop and took a picture. Cute yeah,
- 1:33:03oh did we They don't have a menu or anything, right to just give
- 1:33:06you whatever right. Never, as an allergy sufferer, that line scared the
- 1:33:16hell out of me. You never know what you're gonna get. I need
- 1:33:24to know. But could I know? Though? Yeah? You know,
- 1:33:30Yeah, that's why people don't like it. Now, that's what I did
- 1:33:34see. Some folks were up for roles, and so it looks like initially
- 1:33:40Bill Murray, John Travolta, and Chevy Chase turned down the role for ust
- 1:33:44Gup. Travolta later admitted that passing on the role was a mistake. Bill
- 1:33:48Paxton was one of Robert Semechis's initial first choices, but the studio demanded somebody
- 1:33:55with more star power. The novel's author, Winston Groom, had always envisioned
- 1:34:00John Goodman as Gump because in the book he was a three hundred pounds man.
- 1:34:06He John Goodman would have obviously killed. John Goodman's hard to believe why
- 1:34:15he's still three hundred pounds, but you know, for three years. Yeah,
- 1:34:20although he's quite tall, right, so maybe he could have been ripped
- 1:34:24or something. Right, A long time to film. What I did see
- 1:34:31for Bubba, it looks like David Allen Greer, Ice Cube, and Dave
- 1:34:35Chappelle turned it down. Cube refused to play an idiot, and Chappelle thought
- 1:34:42the movie would bomb. Chappelle had since admitted to deeply regretting not taking the
- 1:34:45role. He'd eventually going to play Tom Hanks's best friend in the different movie
- 1:34:49You've Got Mail. Oh yeah, that's right, huh forgot. And it
- 1:34:55looks like Tupac auditioned for the role of Bubba I saw really crazy. Yeah,
- 1:35:01And for Jenny. It looks like Jodie Foster and Nicole Kidman and Demi
- 1:35:06Moore turned down the role. Wow. Wow, They probably all would have
- 1:35:11been great too in their own waves. Yeah, it would have been fine,
- 1:35:16Adam, did you have anymore? Yeah? The only thing I was
- 1:35:19gonna say. There were a bunch of scenes it sounded like we might have
- 1:35:24gotten information on the same spot. But there was one Lieutenant Dan being pushed
- 1:35:29across the street into a car, like during the whole New Year's Time and
- 1:35:32they're playing the song Everybody's talking and he says, I'm walking here, and
- 1:35:36it's from the same clip and the Midnight Cowboys scene, like the same songs
- 1:35:41playing, and he says the same line that's improved. You know. I
- 1:35:45love that they went to that detail. They I loved hearing about there's a
- 1:35:55bunch of scenes that got that had to be cut, and one of the
- 1:35:58history of historical scenes was mean Martin Luther King and they said he was going
- 1:36:02to like so many sent dogs after the while he's doing a speech, and
- 1:36:06yeah, and Forrest like distracts them by playing fetch instead. Like that.
- 1:36:11That was going to be an entire thing about it. It would have been
- 1:36:15a great yeah, perfect, but you know, how do you pick and
- 1:36:17choose those? For sure? And my favorite is that after you know,
- 1:36:24the studio cutting the budgets down and them having to cut their feet down to
- 1:36:28take points was the best decision they could have made, because they said it
- 1:36:31was the fastest grossing film to pass one hundred million, one hundred fifty million
- 1:36:36to date, maybe, but it passed two hundred and fifty million in sixty
- 1:36:40six days, so it's probably not to date. Avatar probably got a billion
- 1:36:44or something in a way. Yeah, I think did too. Yeah,
- 1:36:46so it was like at that point then, but two hundred fifty million and
- 1:36:49sixty six days for a movie like that, Because like I wouldn't see that
- 1:36:54happening now, like it had to be the Avengers or something like that.
- 1:36:57Yeah, like a heart felt like single. I just no, not a
- 1:37:01not a drama, no historical drama. Yeah, he's stupid. Yeah,
- 1:37:06feelings. So that's that's all I add. Nice. Yeah, well we
- 1:37:14kind of mentioned it Judgment Day. Will there be a sequel? So there's
- 1:37:19the novel. The novel the Winston Groom ended up doing another one called Gump
- 1:37:28and Company. And yeah, apparently tom Aks refused to work in any sequel,
- 1:37:33but then switch it up with toy story, Angels and Demons. He
- 1:37:41changed his mind on that, he did, he did luckily. All those
- 1:37:45are great, so for sure, for sure, but it does look like
- 1:37:49the screenwriter Eric Roth attempted to adapt Gump and Company in two thousand and one.
- 1:37:56However, the nine to eleven attacks changed the world to the extent that
- 1:37:59it made the film irrelevant. Despite several attempts to revive the project, in
- 1:38:03the absence of a formal cancelation, the sequels remained in development hell since and
- 1:38:10is unlikely to be made. Crazy. Yeah, I kind of hope that
- 1:38:14doesn't Like, I don't need cryed enough. We're good yeah, we're good.
- 1:38:21Fine, that was fun. Do you guys want to play a game?
- 1:38:26I would love to play me a game because last time I did real
- 1:38:30bad, so well, this time it's hard again. So it's a starting
- 1:38:34five. This is where I'm gonna name my five favorite actors from a particular
- 1:38:40film. And when you know the film, you ring in with your name.
- 1:38:43If you get it wrong, there won't be any negative points, but
- 1:38:45you won't be able to guess again for that movie. If there are actors'
- 1:38:48names remaining, you can guess those for a point each. The other person
- 1:38:53can steal if you get any of those wrong. And all these films have
- 1:38:57something in common. When you know the theme, you can ring it anytime
- 1:39:00for a point. Huh, I love it. We sound good. Yeah
- 1:39:04yeah, and it might have to do something with with Forrest Gump, so
- 1:39:09oh it. So just be thinking about that. But we feel good,
- 1:39:15we feel ready. This is crazy, This is crazy, This is crazy.
- 1:39:20Okay, okay, he's got his stretches in, all right, we're

- 1:57:15you're there, go to patreon dot com slash Chris Chatham to support our guy
- 1:57:19here stuff. Do you put stuff out all the time? Do you have
- 1:57:24like a regular schedule? I guess I don't know. I haven't been there
- 1:57:27recently. The I would say, that's that's the goal. This last month's
- 1:57:31pretty crazy, so sure, but I have some fun stuff coming up pretty
- 1:57:36soon. That Tim, Tim and I both went into the studio and worked
- 1:57:40with some crazy bluegrass musicians around here to make fun bluegrass versions of things oh
- 1:57:45cool, and it became a thing. Tim was like, hey, you
- 1:57:47want to do some songs and I was like sure, but they turned into
- 1:57:50like eighties classics, so now we've got like cool and they crushed it.
- 1:57:56But I had this idea for like Broken Wings that you know, I wanted
- 1:58:00to do that. I'm just trying to do enough that you don't get charged
- 1:58:03for it, you know, let it do that. So the it was
- 1:58:10that, And then there was a Boys of Summer Don Henley that always and
- 1:58:15I've heard that. Yeah it was cool, and that was that's it was
- 1:58:17fun to do. The one I thought was going to be harder than it
- 1:58:19was was. Tim was like, you know, I just thought about carry
- 1:58:23on the Wayward Sun. I was like, all right, let's give that
- 1:58:26a shot, just being like bluegrass guys like do you I mean you've heard
- 1:58:30this, do you know? And they did it so well, like right
- 1:58:31away they were like, yeah, I got it. I was like,
- 1:58:33okay, I guess we got it. So look forward to that. I
- 1:58:36think it'll become a whole thing where I have like an EP at this point
- 1:58:40of just doing stuff like that, because I have a lot of other ideas
- 1:58:43came to mind. I was like, well, let's do some of that.
- 1:58:45So if you like hair metal and glam rock, eighties rock and banjo,
- 1:58:53you know, sign up. So they go together like peas and carrots,
- 1:58:58carrots, and also go to timpos music dot com to see about the
- 1:59:01backyard bash. Is that a happening? And then the organ getaway and all
- 1:59:06that good stuff because it's all coming up before we know it. Thanks for
- 1:59:12coming on, dude, it's always such a blast to have you the best.
- 1:59:15It is a blast. I loved it, And thanks for making me
- 1:59:16cry today. I didn't think I was going to do that. You know,
- 1:59:18hell, yeah, no problem, Yeah he is he is? He
- 1:59:28like, oh man, so rough we'll stay tuned as we do Anchor Man
- 1:59:33next, which is going to be crazy fun as well. Man probably won't
- 1:59:36be a lot of crying in that, but we'll see. Uh, there
- 1:59:42we go, there we go. But yeah, that does it today for
