- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Michael Bennett on this October 1st. I
- 0:04Speaker 1: can't believe it. My goodness.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Birthday month, baby.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Oh, that's right. It is birthday month for both of us. Oh,
- 0:09Speaker 1: this is terrible news. But anyway, 502-384-1450 if you want
- 0:14Speaker 1: to give us a call in. If you want to
- 0:16Speaker 1: text us on the Whiskey Thief text line, you can
- 0:18Speaker 1: do that at 502-414-1450. Or you can tweet me at
- 0:22Speaker 1: JustTheCatRadio as I'm trying to get my face recognized on
- 0:25Speaker 1: my iPad right now. Anyway, yeah, I got to look
- 0:28Speaker 1: over here, because that's... Do you use facial recognition when
- 0:32Speaker 1: you use your, like, your phone or iPad or.
- 0:35Speaker 2: So, this is my first phone where I do. Oh, really?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Because, well, I don't think my iPhone 6 could, for
- 0:43Speaker 1: what it's worth. Okay, yeah, that's right. I didn't think
- 0:45Speaker 1: about that. Probably not. But, yeah, your flip phone didn't
- 0:50Speaker 1: do that either, but.
- 0:51Speaker 2: No. Yeah, but... Okay, so... But you use it now?
- 0:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I don't really... care for it. Like, I'd rather not
- 0:59Speaker 2: use it. Oh, you don't? No. I don't know.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It feels like an invasion of privacy almost. Oh, here
- 1:04Speaker 1: we go with the privacy crap. What do you literally
- 1:07Speaker 1: have to hide?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Nothing. That's the thing.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So that's exactly. So what are you worried about? Invasion
- 1:13Speaker 1: of privacy?
- 1:13Speaker 2: I don't know. It's just... I don't know. It feels
- 1:16Speaker 2: like it's– I'm really– I shouldn't be worried about it.
- 1:18Speaker 2: You're right. No, you shouldn't be. And I'm not really.
- 1:20Speaker 2: At the end of the day, I'm not really worried.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Now, when they start hacking and getting into your phone
- 1:24Speaker 1: and using your credit card off your phone.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Or your– They're not going to get very far. Your
- 1:28Speaker 2: bank account. Well, exactly. Good luck to them.
- 1:30Speaker 1: But, listen, all the people that always complain, oh, it's
- 1:34Speaker 1: an invasion of privacy, all these cameras around, oh, it's
- 1:37Speaker 1: an invasion– I don't care. If they're watching me drive
- 1:41Speaker 1: around town, why do I care? Anyway, we've talked about
- 1:44Speaker 1: this before, but it just drives me nuts. By the way,
- 1:48Speaker 1: are the Red Sox cheaters and it didn't work?
- 1:51Speaker 2: Cheaters?
- 1:52Speaker 1: Well, you haven't seen the whole video clip of Sonny Gray?
- 1:55Speaker 2: No.
- 1:56Speaker 1: The Boston Red Sox pitcher last night, a lot of
- 2:00Speaker 1: people were noticing he kept rubbing his fingers on his neck.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And then he would ask for a new ball. Then he,
- 2:07Speaker 1: before the ball would come, he would rub his fingers
- 2:09Speaker 1: on his neck. And then they got close in and
- 2:13Speaker 1: they notice a substance, a substance on his neck, a
- 2:17Speaker 1: Brown substance.
- 2:19Speaker 2: And did he ever get called out for it? I
- 2:21Speaker 2: don't think he got called out for it. Except on.
- 2:23Speaker 1: So what would, what would it prove? They got blown out.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I mean, in two games, do you realize the Yankees
- 2:29Speaker 1: scored 18 runs?
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Pretty nuts. Yeah. Now I'm real nervous. By the way,
- 2:35Speaker 2: Sonny Gray's a goofy looking fella. I'm not going to
- 2:38Speaker 2: say something like that. I never realized how funny looking
- 2:41Speaker 2: he was, but he's pretty funny looking. Look in the mirror.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I mean, come on now. You're not wrong. But that's
- 2:46Speaker 2: why I feel comfortable calling him goofy looking because I'm
- 2:48Speaker 2: goofy looking. I don't know.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He pulls his hat way down too far. It's so
- 2:53Speaker 1: far down. It's making his. Ear bend down.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I don't like that. Yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I'm with you on that one, but cause I don't
- 3:02Speaker 1: wear my hat real high.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I think it's funny.
- 3:04Speaker 1: The guys, it's always old and it sounds like I'm
- 3:07Speaker 1: making fun. I'm not just an observation that a country,
- 3:11Speaker 1: a gentleman, older men. always wear their hat right on
- 3:15Speaker 1: top of their head.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You're right. My grandpa. Oh, he does? Oh, yeah. It's like,
- 3:20Speaker 2: why are you even wearing a hat, Grandpa?
- 3:22Speaker 1: That's my entire question as well.
- 3:24Speaker 2: If the wind blows two miles an hour, that thing's
- 3:26Speaker 2: falling off. And it never does, though. Never does. No,
- 3:29Speaker 2: it doesn't.
- 3:30Speaker 1: But I would love to know why your grandfather wears
- 3:34Speaker 1: his hat so freaking high.
- 3:36Speaker 2: He just always has, as long as I've known him.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I don't get it.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Have you seen the video of Sonny Gray yet? Okay,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you've got to go look that up. He is doing
- 3:46Speaker 1: something on there, and there is clearly something on his neck.
- 3:50Speaker 1: And I think the funny part is, whatever's on his
- 3:53Speaker 1: neck that he's wiping on the baseball, it didn't work
- 3:55Speaker 1: at all. The Yankees just blew them out. I mean,
- 3:59Speaker 1: this was not a fun wild card series for any
- 4:02Speaker 1: of them, with the exception of the Braves and the,
- 4:08Speaker 1: who are the Braves playing?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Is it the Cardinals? Braves are playing the Phillies. Phillies,
- 4:13Speaker 2: that's it.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Phillies. Yeah, Cardinals aren't even in it. What
- 4:16Speaker 1: am I thinking? But yeah, it was the Braves and
- 4:18Speaker 1: the Cardinals. That's the only games tied one-to-one. Everything else
- 4:21Speaker 1: was pretty much a blowout. I mean, you got the
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yankees blowing out the Red Sox. You got the Padres.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I really thought the Padres would get beat by the Cubs.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And then you got the White Sox beating the Astros.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Love that one. Yeah, so do I.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Listen, here's the two teams I want to lose. Well,
- 4:41Speaker 1: there's three. But as far as teams I want to
- 4:46Speaker 1: get beat first, this is the way I do it
- 4:48Speaker 1: during March Madness. I always want the Astros beaten first.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And hopefully the Dodgers are after that and then the Yankees.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Oh, really? You got Dodgers before the Yankees? Yeah, because, well,
- 5:02Speaker 2: that's interesting. Well, now especially, I bet it's not like
- 5:05Speaker 2: that this year because you got to play the Yankees. Exactly. Oh, yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Who would I rather the Rays play? I would probably
- 5:10Speaker 1: rather the Red Sox.
- 5:11Speaker 2: You're right. Well, it's bogus. You all should be playing
- 5:13Speaker 2: the White Sox. Well, we should be. Yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 1: We've talked about that. Yesterday, but yeah, it's ridiculous. So
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't understand why Major League Baseball want to penalize
- 5:24Speaker 1: the team that won the entire league.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it doesn't make sense. It doesn't, but anyway. But yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 2: Sonny Gray was definitely cheating.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Like when it comes to March Madness, I want, without
- 5:37Speaker 1: a doubt, I want Duke to lose number one over
- 5:40Speaker 1: any other team.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Duke is number one.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Uh tennessee uofl those are the three teams i want
- 5:48Speaker 1: gone early i get it yeah after that i'm okay
- 5:52Speaker 1: with everybody i don't know is there anybody else out
- 5:55Speaker 1: there that uh we all.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Probably arkansas too you can put arkansas in there.
- 5:59Speaker 1: So is there anybody else out there that you foresee
- 6:02Speaker 1: that uh should be i always root against purdue well
- 6:06Speaker 1: but purdue's not good at anything are they They've.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Been pretty damn good at basketball the last handful of years. Yeah.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And I've, I've said my whole life, they're never going
- 6:14Speaker 2: to win a championship. They've made me sweat it out
- 6:16Speaker 2: a few of the years.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But you, you've won it there. So yeah, I see.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I knew I would get a, a text from John.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Cause I know he's, I remember he's a big Yankees fan.
- 6:25Speaker 1: We'll see what he says in a few minutes, but,
- 6:28Speaker 1: but it's, it's, I hope it's going to be a
- 6:30Speaker 1: fun series. I want the Rays to just sweep the
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yankees with no issue.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I don't think that's going to happen. See, I don't either.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I think the Rays are going to lose to the
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yankees is what scares me.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Now, they're a seven-game series, right? Divisional round? No, isn't
- 6:45Speaker 2: it five-game? Is it five? I don't remember.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I know the championship is seven as far.
- 6:53Speaker 2: As the American League. For sure. So it's five games?
- 6:57Speaker 2: Did you check it? It is five. Yeah. That's what
- 6:59Speaker 2: I thought. That sucks.
- 7:00Speaker 1: So it'd be three games in St. Pete and two
- 7:03Speaker 1: games in New York.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 1: But I will readily admit there's nothing like playoff baseball
- 7:11Speaker 1: in New York City and all the fans.
- 7:13Speaker 2: That are there.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Don't ask the Mets fans that. Oh, boy, that is true.
- 7:18Speaker 1: By the way, Spike Lee got in a fight last night.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Excuse me? You didn't see that?
- 7:21Speaker 3: No.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Spike Lee, before the game, having dinner, somebody came up
- 7:26Speaker 1: and asked him, I'm not going to repeat the question,
- 7:28Speaker 1: but it was an obnoxious question, and he starts going belligerent.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I don't think Spike Lee's a guy to be necessarily
- 7:36Speaker 1: afraid of.
- 7:37Speaker 2: No, he's like 4'10. Yeah, yeah. You're right.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So anyway, but all right. I do have a lot
- 7:45Speaker 1: to talk about today. I know I say that and
- 7:48Speaker 1: that drives you crazy when I do say this.
- 7:50Speaker 2: It doesn't drive me crazy. I'm used to it. At
- 7:53Speaker 2: this point? Okay.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Well, I do want to talk about, we'll talk about
- 7:58Speaker 1: Shane Beamer first. Because he got in front of the
- 8:02Speaker 1: South Carolina media yesterday and admitted in his weekly press
- 8:08Speaker 1: conference that there's going to be a lot of people
- 8:11Speaker 1: in the stadium that are either pissed at him or
- 8:15Speaker 1: don't like him. And I thought, that's an interesting way
- 8:19Speaker 1: to talk on your own press conference. To me, I
- 8:26Speaker 1: don't know if I like that my coach, even though
- 8:28Speaker 1: we might be upset with him and want him gone.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I don't know if I want him up there worrying
- 8:33Speaker 1: about this, that people are pissed or upset with him.
- 8:37Speaker 2: You think he's worrying about it or you think he's
- 8:39Speaker 2: just being a real?
- 8:40Speaker 1: No, I think I legitimately think he is worried about it. Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 1: because he don't want to lose his job and he's
- 8:46Speaker 1: about to. And he said, what we need Saturday night
- 8:49Speaker 1: is for 80,000 strong to come together for three hours
- 8:53Speaker 1: to help our football team. And I thought, that's an
- 8:58Speaker 1: unusual way to get the fans all riled up. So
- 9:00Speaker 1: you don't think he's nervous about the fans disliking him
- 9:06Speaker 1: right now? I mean, maybe a little bit, but that's
- 9:09Speaker 1: not how I feel. hear that quote no it's not
- 9:13Speaker 1: how do you hear i just think it's him being
- 9:15Speaker 1: a realist and and acknowledging that hey i'm aware of
- 9:17Speaker 1: the situation i know how important this game is to
- 9:21Speaker 1: us and my future career as well right that's the
- 9:24Speaker 1: way i took it but is that the way to
- 9:26Speaker 1: handle it though I mean, everybody handles everything differently. No,
- 9:31Speaker 1: you're exactly right. But to me, something like this, there
- 9:34Speaker 1: is a right way and a wrong way. And to me,
- 9:37Speaker 1: in my opinion, the right way is to always be positive.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Don't come out and just say, I know you're pissed
- 9:42Speaker 1: at me. I know you don't like me. That's not
- 9:45Speaker 1: what you want to hear because that's going to confirm
- 9:47Speaker 1: even to the people that are on the bubble. Well,
- 9:49Speaker 1: then if all these fans don't like you, I guess
- 9:52Speaker 1: I'll be the one of them too. I'll just join
- 9:54Speaker 1: the people that don't like you.
- 9:55Speaker 2: No, I think you come out and you be positive. Listen.
- 10:00Speaker 1: It's been a difficult year, but we're going to get
- 10:02Speaker 1: it started this weekend. There's just a completely different way
- 10:06Speaker 1: to come across.
- 10:07Speaker 2: That's how you would do it. That's the way I
- 10:09Speaker 2: think everyone should do it. Yeah, but that doesn't mean
- 10:12Speaker 2: that everybody's going to do it that way. You're exactly correct. Obviously. Well, yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 2: and I think it was a mistake for him to
- 10:18Speaker 2: come out this way. He's done nothing but make mistakes
- 10:22Speaker 2: since he was the head coach.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Well, that's right, except when it came to Mark Stoops.
- 10:27Speaker 1: He did everything right, but ever since then, it's just
- 10:30Speaker 1: been down, down, down. I just feel like when you've
- 10:32Speaker 1: got a negative situation in front of you, you try
- 10:35Speaker 1: and come out with the positive because this doubt looks
- 10:40Speaker 1: bad on his own football team. Well, the fan base
- 10:42Speaker 1: is not happy with our coach. Maybe I won't go
- 10:45Speaker 1: out there and try as hard. I just feel like
- 10:47Speaker 1: you come out positive. no matter if you're facing all
- 10:51Speaker 1: kinds of difficulty in front of you. You got adversity
- 10:55Speaker 1: staring down at you right now. See, I sound like
- 10:58Speaker 1: a coach right now.
- 10:59Speaker 2: A ridiculous one. But doesn't that get increasingly hard to
- 11:02Speaker 2: be positive when you're dealing with what he's had to
- 11:04Speaker 2: deal with, especially this year? Sure it does. Sure it does.
- 11:07Speaker 2: But just listen.
- 11:09Speaker 1: One of these times, that positivity is going to turn
- 11:12Speaker 1: it around. Even if it doesn't, at least you are
- 11:15Speaker 1: positive going out. I do you really like because at
- 11:22Speaker 1: this point, if he does lose his job, don't you
- 11:24Speaker 1: think the next team is going to look at him?
- 11:26Speaker 1: And while he was really negative going out of South Carolina,
- 11:29Speaker 1: do we really want to hire somebody like that? Or
- 11:31Speaker 1: was he positive the entire time, had a positive outlook
- 11:34Speaker 1: and tried his best to stay positive? Wouldn't you want
- 11:37Speaker 1: to hire somebody like that?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Look, I understand you and I are both very positive people. Yes.
- 11:45Speaker 2: In almost every situation, we try to find the good
- 11:48Speaker 2: in it. Absolutely. But not everybody's like that. You're exactly correct.
- 11:53Speaker 2: For as easy as it is for us to have
- 11:55Speaker 2: that mindset, that's not easy for a lot of people. No,
- 11:58Speaker 2: it's not.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And most successful leaders are what? You think they're negative
- 12:02Speaker 1: or you think they're positive? I would say more negative.
- 12:06Speaker 2: What?
- 12:06Speaker 3: What?
- 12:07Speaker 2: I'd say that maybe not more. You think successful leaders
- 12:10Speaker 2: are more negative? Maybe not more negative, but they're more
- 12:12Speaker 2: critical for sure.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Huh.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Okay. And spots where they need to be critical, they
- 12:18Speaker 2: will be. I mean, I think that number, it's probably
- 12:20Speaker 2: 60% positive, 40% negative. If I had to guess. Maybe 70-30.
- 12:27Speaker 1: On the successful side of head coaches and or leaders.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:30Speaker 1: You think only 60% of them are positive. and a
- 12:34Speaker 1: big number of 40% are negative.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Successful ones. I'll go 70-30.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Now, I feel like I'm convincing you that.
- 12:41Speaker 2: No, no, no. I'm going 70. That's my final answer. Okay.
- 12:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 12:45Speaker 1: That part I might be a little more believable, but
- 12:47Speaker 1: I think maybe I'm wrong. I just feel like more
- 12:51Speaker 1: successful leaders, more successful college coaches, professional coaches, doesn't matter
- 12:57Speaker 1: what level they're on. I feel like the more successful ones,
- 13:00Speaker 1: it'd be probably– 80% or 90% are all positive. I
- 13:05Speaker 1: don't see many success. Who is a negative coach out
- 13:08Speaker 1: there that's been successful? See, now you're having a hard time.
- 13:14Speaker 1: You said 30% of them.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I was thinking just more so leaders, not from the
- 13:19Speaker 2: coaching side of things. All right.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Name at least one or two that are negative coaches
- 13:25Speaker 1: that have had a really good career. Is there any
- 13:28Speaker 1: out there? I mean, Kurt Cignetti's kind of negative.
- 13:31Speaker 2: You really think so? Yeah. Yeah, I do. I got
- 13:35Speaker 2: to listen to him more then. Well, all right.
- 13:38Speaker 1: His mentor, Nick Saban. That's fair to say, right? That
- 13:41Speaker 1: would be his mentor. Probably his biggest mentor.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Sure.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Do you think Nick Saban was negative? To a certain extent, yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I do. And I'm maybe confusing negative with critical
- 13:55Speaker 2: here in this situation because oftentimes I think those things
- 13:58Speaker 2: go hand in hand. Oh, do they really? If you're
- 14:00Speaker 2: being critical, my brain takes that to mean negativity. See, sometimes,
- 14:07Speaker 2: but critical can be realistic, too. Critical most often is realistic. Exactly.
- 14:12Speaker 2: And I don't see that as a negative. It can be.
- 14:17Speaker 2: What's that? It can be. Yeah.
- 14:19Speaker 1: More times than not, I like it when people are
- 14:22Speaker 1: realistic with me. And there's a way to present. We're
- 14:25Speaker 1: getting too philosophical here. I mean, it's supposed to be
- 14:28Speaker 1: a fun show, and I'm just driving it down. People
- 14:30Speaker 1: are just quick.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Just the philosophy. I know.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Stop it. We got to move on. This is just
- 14:35Speaker 1: a dumb topic. So I'll readily admit it right now.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I'm sorry, everybody. Let me just start over. Go ahead
- 14:42Speaker 1: and do the re-air of the entire show. Oh, big pro.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I know. I know.
- 14:45Speaker 4: No, no.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I know.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Listen, I get a buddy that, well, my former producer,
- 14:50Speaker 1: when he calls me, He won't even say hello to me.
- 14:53Speaker 1: He'll just go, hello, BigBugNation. He'll just totally make fun
- 14:56Speaker 1: of me. It's like, why do you do something like that? Anyway,
- 14:59Speaker 1: but yeah, yeah, whatever. I've said it before. I've often thought,
- 15:06Speaker 1: should I change the whole intro? And more people than
- 15:09Speaker 1: not said, no, keep it the same.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah, and I will. I will.
- 15:12Speaker 1: But I'm looking forward to this game, I think. I
- 15:17Speaker 1: hope so.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Now, the.
- 15:21Speaker 1: One thing that came out was the injury report. And
- 15:26Speaker 1: the good news and bad news, the center back, Grant Grayton,
- 15:31Speaker 1: is still out. But you've got D.J. Miller, wide receiver,
- 15:38Speaker 1: is doubtful. Cole, I mean, you've got one totally out
- 15:43Speaker 1: and the other four either doubtful, questionable, or probable. So
- 15:47Speaker 1: now South Carolina goes deep. They've got one, two, three, four, five,
- 15:52Speaker 1: six players that are completely out of this game. And
- 15:55Speaker 1: I think the biggest one obviously is the edge Dylan Stewart.
- 15:59Speaker 1: So that's, that's, that to me is good news. And
- 16:04Speaker 1: I'm hoping it stays that way, but what is going
- 16:07Speaker 1: to be more important to you? with this game, the
- 16:10Speaker 1: success of this game? Is it going to be the
- 16:12Speaker 1: offensive side producing, or is it going to be the
- 16:15Speaker 1: defensive side in your mind?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Justin? With what we've seen so far out of Will Stein,
- 16:21Speaker 2: I think it's got to be the offensive side of
- 16:23Speaker 2: the ball. Because, I mean, defensively, you're going to give
- 16:26Speaker 2: up points. It's inevitable for that to happen, especially when
- 16:29Speaker 2: you're on the road taking on a conference opponent. But
- 16:32Speaker 2: if your offense can keep pace and keep up and
- 16:35Speaker 2: just outscore this South Carolina team, At the end of
- 16:38Speaker 2: the day, defense doesn't really matter if the offense can
- 16:40Speaker 2: put more points up on the board. Yeah. So I
- 16:43Speaker 2: think it's offense.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Well, see, I probably agree with you because the second
- 16:48Speaker 1: best receiver we had, D.J.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Miller, the sophomore, is doubtful. What is it, doubtful? That
- 16:55Speaker 2: worries me. Yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 1: And so now you got a true freshman who is
- 16:59Speaker 1: your best receiver, Darby. It's like, okay, this can be
- 17:04Speaker 1: or can't be good. That would be a heavy tight
- 17:06Speaker 1: end game. That's exactly what I was getting ready to say.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Good call.
- 17:09Speaker 1: And so can you go and rely on the tight ends?
- 17:14Speaker 1: And that's the part I hope. But anyway, I kind
- 17:18Speaker 1: of feel good from that standpoint. The part I'm worried
- 17:22Speaker 1: about is just the belief that, hey, the South Carolina
- 17:26Speaker 1: team rallies around their coach. I look towards that because
- 17:31Speaker 1: I think, I said this yesterday, athletically, talent-wise, I think
- 17:35Speaker 1: Kentucky's a better team. Now, can South Carolina rally around
- 17:40Speaker 1: their coach and say, you know what, we need to
- 17:42Speaker 1: save the man his job? Because if they lose this game,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I think he's done. It doesn't matter if they fire
- 17:48Speaker 1: him next Monday or when the season's over. I think
- 17:52Speaker 1: this game will be a deciding factor for Shane Beamer.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Whether or not he's there next year. I guess all
- 17:57Speaker 2: that just depends on what they think about him in
- 18:00Speaker 2: the locker room. Do they respect Shane Beamer? Do they
- 18:05Speaker 2: like Shane Beamer? Or is it one of those things
- 18:07Speaker 2: where they're going back to their houses at night and
- 18:09Speaker 2: they're just clowning on this dude? I don't know. Because
- 18:12Speaker 2: if that's the case, then no, they won't rally.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I mean, well, the whole thing with the situation with
- 18:18Speaker 1: the edge player that's out. uh what's his name dylan
- 18:24Speaker 1: stewart i'm thinking that man to me that if he's
- 18:29Speaker 1: clowning around and disrespecting the the coaching staff you gotta
- 18:34Speaker 1: believe he can't be the only one.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Right i mean i feel the exact same that's why
- 18:39Speaker 2: i don't i'm not i'm still even with dj miller
- 18:41Speaker 2: being out or potentially out i'm i'm not really worried
- 18:45Speaker 2: about this game if i'm kentucky.
- 18:47Speaker 1: You're not really worried well you then you hadn't been
- 18:49Speaker 1: a Kentucky fan because we worry about every single game.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Well, yeah. Just as a fan base. I mean. I mean,
- 18:54Speaker 2: I'm not a Kentucky fan. I know. I know. But
- 18:58Speaker 2: IU's playing who this weekend? Rutgers. That is a game
- 19:01Speaker 2: I'm not worried about. Yeah, exactly.
- 19:03Speaker 1: See, you got nothing to worry about with your season.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Next three weeks, I do.
- 19:06Speaker 2: All right. Who are the next three weeks with IU?
- 19:08Speaker 2: You got a game at Nebraska. Yeah. Then you host
- 19:11Speaker 2: Ohio State. Yeah. Then you're on the road at Michigan.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Then we'll finally see what IU is made of. It's
- 19:16Speaker 2: a pretty tough three-game stretch. Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:19Speaker 1: So I would like to see what IU would do
- 19:21Speaker 1: in a UK football schedule.
- 19:23Speaker 2: No, same. Same. Absolutely the same.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And it would have to be a lot more fun
- 19:28Speaker 1: because if they do win, it's a lot more satisfying.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Sure.
- 19:31Speaker 1: If they win the schedule they have now, it's not
- 19:35Speaker 1: as satisfying, is it?
- 19:36Speaker 2: I mean, if you get to the end of the
- 19:37Speaker 2: year and you're hoisting that trophy, hell yeah, it's satisfying. Okay, fine.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:41Speaker 2: That was my whole point of last year's season is
- 19:45Speaker 2: I don't care who's on the schedule and how bad
- 19:47Speaker 2: we're beating them. It was a blast going 16-0. and
- 19:49Speaker 2: lifting that trophy. Oh, yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 1: And hopefully that happens in my lifetime. I'm just not
- 19:54Speaker 1: sure it's going to. But listen, if somebody's going to
- 19:58Speaker 1: do it, maybe it is Will Stein.
- 19:59Speaker 2: So I'm looking forward to that. All right. We got
- 20:01Speaker 2: to take our first break.
- 20:02Speaker 3: 502-384-1450.
- 20:02Speaker 1: You want to call 502-414-1450. You want to text in
- 20:03Speaker 1: on the Whiskey Thief text line. or you tweet me
- 20:09Speaker 1: at JustTheCatRay. When we come back, I do want to
- 20:11Speaker 1: talk about who's going to be the surprise player. So
- 20:14Speaker 1: I want you prepared now.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Okay, Justin?
- 20:17Speaker 1: So who do you think is going to be the
- 20:19Speaker 1: surprise player on the UK basketball team? Yeah, I gave
- 20:22Speaker 1: you my prediction last year. We'll talk about that, and
- 20:25Speaker 1: then hopefully we'll have something new this year. So stay
- 20:28Speaker 1: right there. More Just The Cats coming right up.
- 20:40Speaker 4: The postman starts his outboard Cause we'll get our mail
- 20:44Speaker 4: by boat That song I penned in 81 Still keeps
- 20:48Speaker 4: our world.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Afloat If it wasn't for the.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Way Covert rendezvous with you At the usual time.
- 21:02Speaker 2: I savor the scent Of the fish on the grill.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Yeah i wish lunch could last forever every now and
- 21:18Speaker 1: then as well but there are times i've gone to
- 21:20Speaker 1: lunch with people that couldn't end quick enough have you
- 21:23Speaker 1: ever had that situation not really no really no yeah
- 21:27Speaker 1: oh my goodness i don't really go to a lot
- 21:29Speaker 1: of lunches though oh you don't yeah i'm going to
- 21:32Speaker 1: lexington today have lunch with somebody i am.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Having uh Early dinner on Saturday with my grandparents. Are
- 21:39Speaker 2: you really? Celebrating their 59th wedding anniversary. Holy cow. How
- 21:44Speaker 2: old are your grandparents? They are, I want to say
- 21:47Speaker 2: my grandpa's early 80s, my grandma's 75, 76. Ooh, big
- 21:52Speaker 2: age difference there. Not really. Five, six years. Okay, I
- 21:56Speaker 2: got you. Times were different then. Yeah, yeah. And it
- 21:58Speaker 2: was in Germany. Ah, and that makes all the difference
- 22:02Speaker 2: in the world because it was in Germany. Okay, good.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Different part of the world. I'm glad to hear that. 502-384-1450.
- 22:05Speaker 1: You want to call 502-414-1450, which is another slow text
- 22:12Speaker 1: message day today. I'm really kind of surprised. But John
- 22:16Speaker 1: here said, I agree with you, Michael, on the flock
- 22:18Speaker 1: camera situation. I smile when I see them. Also happy
- 22:22Speaker 1: for my Yankees. Should be fun series for your Rays
- 22:25Speaker 1: and my Yankees. One to throw anything on the game.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Y'all are enemies now.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I would be down for it. I don't know what
- 22:36Speaker 1: we'd throw in there.
- 22:38Speaker 2: He wants to bet you, Michael. Don't do it. He's
- 22:40Speaker 2: been hot. Oh, really? Yeah, not doing it. He's been hot.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Thank you. Oh, really?
- 22:45Speaker 1: What else has he been betting on?
- 22:47Speaker 2: Baseball. He's been killing it. Oh, okay. I got you.
- 22:49Speaker 2: He's up $ 600 the last two days. All right. Well,
- 22:54Speaker 2: there you go.
- 22:54Speaker 1: So I, one thing before we move on to basketball,
- 22:58Speaker 1: one thing I do want to ask is I feel
- 23:02Speaker 1: like UK kind of got shafted on the whole rankings thing.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It's nice that they're 24th in the country and the
- 23:08Speaker 1: coaches poll, they're not even ranked. And I think that's
- 23:11Speaker 1: kind of crappy. But, but cause I feel like Kentucky
- 23:15Speaker 1: should be in the top 2021, something like that. I mean,
- 23:20Speaker 1: after all, at the time, UK beat the number ninth
- 23:24Speaker 1: team in the country. Now we find out they weren't
- 23:28Speaker 1: that great of a team, but it's still going to
- 23:30Speaker 1: an away game, hostile environment. What does Kentucky, which game
- 23:36Speaker 1: do you think, Justin? Kentucky has to win in order
- 23:42Speaker 1: to show the national media and the rest of the
- 23:44Speaker 1: country that Kentucky football is is a team to be
- 23:48Speaker 1: reckoned with?
- 23:50Speaker 2: LSU or Florida. Oh, really? Not till then.
- 23:54Speaker 1: So if UK goes on to beat South Carolina, they
- 23:59Speaker 1: got LSU the following week. There's one of them. You
- 24:02Speaker 1: got Oklahoma. Going to Oklahoma doesn't mean anything is what
- 24:05Speaker 1: you're telling me.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Oklahoma stinks. Okay. I mean, it's going to be an
- 24:08Speaker 2: impressive win. It's on the road. You're at a traditional
- 24:11Speaker 2: powerhouse of college football. So, yeah, it's going to be
- 24:14Speaker 2: a great win, but I don't. I don't know that
- 24:16Speaker 2: it's a defining win to shout out to the media, hey,
- 24:20Speaker 2: we're here.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's still going to a team that historically
- 24:25Speaker 1: is a football team and you're going into another hostile environment. Now, granted,
- 24:31Speaker 1: I don't know what Oklahoma's attendance will be on that
- 24:35Speaker 1: particular day. The next weekend they got Vanderbilt. Then you
- 24:38Speaker 1: got Tennessee and Knoxville. I'm kind of surprised you didn't
- 24:40Speaker 1: say Tennessee either.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I mean, I guess that could be an answer as well.
- 24:44Speaker 2: And then you got Florida after that. I was going
- 24:46Speaker 2: more chronological. LSU coming up first. I think if you
- 24:49Speaker 2: win this weekend, you find a way to beat LSU
- 24:51Speaker 2: next week. That tells the national media, hey, Kentucky's here.
- 24:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So what if Kentucky loses to South Carolina but beats LSU?
- 25:03Speaker 2: That makes it a little more true. See, I agree
- 25:06Speaker 2: with you. And it's just like, okay, well, what is
- 25:08Speaker 2: this team? First of all, how do you lose to
- 25:11Speaker 2: a team like South Carolina? You're supposed to be 24th
- 25:13Speaker 2: ranked team in the country and not ranked in the
- 25:15Speaker 2: college coaches.
- 25:17Speaker 1: But what are you? And then they come back, they
- 25:21Speaker 1: host LSU in Lexington, and then end up winning that game.
- 25:25Speaker 1: It's like, that's a crazy thing to happen. Listen, I
- 25:29Speaker 1: don't think LSU is as good as they are perceived.
- 25:33Speaker 1: We'll find out in due time.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I think we will.
- 25:36Speaker 1: But I look at it as if UK can beat
- 25:41Speaker 1: South Carolina. Now, how far up in the polls do
- 25:44Speaker 1: you think Kentucky would move?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Two, three spots. Yeah. I'm probably with you. 20, 21,
- 25:52Speaker 2: somewhere in that range.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I'm probably going to predict 22 because they're just being
- 25:55Speaker 1: stingy with UK.
- 25:56Speaker 2: And I don't for the life of me. I got
- 25:58Speaker 2: three words, though. Okay. Who freaking cares? It's week four.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I do. It's week four. It's respect. I get what
- 26:06Speaker 2: you're saying. It's not about the rankings now. It's about
- 26:08Speaker 2: the end of the season.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Okay. I just want the respect. And it seems like
- 26:13Speaker 1: some teams get way up there. Listen, if UK, and
- 26:17Speaker 1: it sounds like I'm always picking on this one particular team,
- 26:20Speaker 1: but I think it's deserved. If UK had the same
- 26:22Speaker 1: schedule as Notre Dame, UK would be completely undefeated the
- 26:26Speaker 1: entire season. If Notre Dame, what's the one tough game
- 26:30Speaker 1: Notre Dame has? I think y'all would have struggled with Wisconsin.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Really? I'm not saying you would have lost it, but
- 26:37Speaker 2: I think y'all would have struggled with it.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I think it depends on where the game was played. BYU,
- 26:41Speaker 1: they got a game coming up with BYU.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so what? Number 10 in the country. Yeah, okay.
- 26:46Speaker 2: And they play Miami. Y'all ain't beating Miami. Okay. By
- 26:49Speaker 2: the way, we have Ed on the phone. Oh, we do? Yeah. Okay, well,
- 26:52Speaker 2: let's go to the phone lines. 502-384-1450. What's up, Ed?
- 26:57Speaker 4: Well, I just want to ask you one question here. Well,
- 27:00Speaker 4: I have several in mind. You really think Kentucky's going
- 27:04Speaker 4: to go to South Carolina and win, don't you?
- 27:06Speaker 1: Do I really believe that? Honestly, I struggle with it.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I believe that, Ed. Justin does. I struggle with it.
- 27:16Speaker 1: And part of me says, yes, they should. The other
- 27:19Speaker 1: part is probably protecting myself.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not going to happen. Why do you ask
- 27:22Speaker 2: that question?
- 27:24Speaker 4: Well, because I don't think South Carolina's very good.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Exactly. I agree.
- 27:28Speaker 4: And number two is, I think Kentucky's better than people
- 27:33Speaker 4: gave them credit for. And I'm with Scoot. Who the
- 27:38Speaker 4: frick cares about where your rating is on Saturday number
- 27:42Speaker 4: four or five? Now, I know what you're going at
- 27:44Speaker 4: with the respect thing with Kentucky.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:47Speaker 4: But don't you think being in the SEC means enough?
- 27:50Speaker 4: I mean, my goodness. I mean, Kentucky goes to Texas
- 27:56Speaker 4: A & M. They win down there. They beat the
- 27:57Speaker 4: two teams that they were supposed to beat. just to begin.
- 28:02Speaker 4: So they're what? Three and one now, right?
- 28:04Speaker 2: Correct.
- 28:07Speaker 4: And I personally, I think they'll beat South Carolina because
- 28:10Speaker 4: I just don't think South Carolina is very good. And
- 28:12Speaker 4: what's his name? Beamer. He better get the moving truck
- 28:16Speaker 4: backed up to his house because they're shipping him out
- 28:18Speaker 4: of there. They don't put up with that stuff at SC. Now,
- 28:23Speaker 4: let's follow the next week. I know we're putting the
- 28:26Speaker 4: cart before the horse.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you are.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Can Kentucky beat LSU at home? Well, sure they can.
- 28:33Speaker 4: They can beat them at home because I think at night,
- 28:36Speaker 4: Kentucky is about, oh, I don't know, six points, seven
- 28:40Speaker 4: points better at night at home because everybody is stoked up.
- 28:44Speaker 4: It's like going down to Baton Rouge and playing at night.
- 28:48Speaker 4: And I think, you know, Kiffin is a good coach, yes.
- 28:56Speaker 4: but they laid, how many did they lay on Clemson? 52.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:02Speaker 4: I think he ran it up. I think he ran
- 29:04Speaker 4: it up just for purposely.
- 29:06Speaker 2: He had to. Yes.
- 29:07Speaker 4: That's current. That's Clemson's fault that he just, they just
- 29:11Speaker 4: ran them up. Now is Clemson any good? Probably not,
- 29:15Speaker 4: not they're better than 52 to nothing to LSU. I
- 29:18Speaker 4: can tell you that, but are they any good? Probably not.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Now I'm going to go to ask a UK guy scoots.
- 29:25Speaker 4: I want you to fire in on this as well.
- 29:29Speaker 3: It's Louisville.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Just not very good. 0, 3, 4, 5.
- 29:30Speaker 2: 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, to answer first. And I think Louisville is a
- 29:44Speaker 2: lot better team with Lincoln King. I'll say that. I
- 29:47Speaker 2: am worried moving forward if he's got to miss two,
- 29:50Speaker 2: three games, what that could do to the psyche of
- 29:53Speaker 2: the team. But I do think despite the loss to
- 29:55Speaker 2: Wake Forest, I do think Louisville's a good team. I'm
- 29:59Speaker 2: kind of on the side of I think Wake Forest
- 30:02Speaker 2: is better than people give them credit for. Well, I
- 30:04Speaker 2: agree with you.
- 30:05Speaker 4: I saw him play, watched him on TV. Oh, who
- 30:10Speaker 4: did they play? It wasn't App State. It was somebody before.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Virginia just absolutely wiped the earth with them. They weren't
- 30:19Speaker 4: very good in that game. But I think, yeah, I
- 30:22Speaker 4: think that Wake Forest is probably better than people in Louisville.
- 30:25Speaker 4: We'll give them credit for it. Now, are they great? No.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Are they a middling, mid-level ACC team? Maybe a little
- 30:33Speaker 4: above average?
- 30:34Speaker 2: Probably.
- 30:36Speaker 4: And it's so early, we still are sorting out the this, that,
- 30:39Speaker 4: and the others, to be honest with you.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I look at it, and I'm going to disagree with you, Justin. See,
- 30:46Speaker 1: I don't think Lincoln Keinholz is that great of a quarterback.
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think he's good. I just don't think he's great.
- 30:52Speaker 1: And to me, there's a big difference there. But he's
- 30:55Speaker 1: also never started. And some of the throws he makes
- 30:57Speaker 1: are pretty impressive.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but. Well, now hold on.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Now hold on.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Hold on, Mr. UK. Let me ask you a question, Ed.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 31:12Speaker 4: You got a four-game sample size. Four games.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I think I know what kind of fan base this
- 31:17Speaker 2: guy comes from.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Well, now that doesn't mean I'm fair and balanced.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Okay, I appreciate that. I appreciate that.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 31:29Speaker 4: I think he's better than the guy they had last year.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Very much so. Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 4: He was terrible. Other than Tyler shook. I think he
- 31:39Speaker 4: is probably better than any they've had except Tyler shook
- 31:42Speaker 4: to this point, to this point. Now he has, he
- 31:45Speaker 4: doesn't throw interceptions. Can he throw the deep ball? Well,
- 31:49Speaker 4: Brown doesn't throw the.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Deep ball anymore. Yeah. Runs the ball, runs.
- 31:53Speaker 4: The ball, runs the ball, which is what you have
- 31:55Speaker 4: to do. But everybody's so into the offense that defense
- 31:59Speaker 4: is bad.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Scooter, scooter, could have ran for 150 yards against that
- 32:07Speaker 4: defense and he can't run.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And that's been the consistency with U of L football.
- 32:11Speaker 1: The last few years is that their defense has not
- 32:13Speaker 1: been very good. I'm not going to say they're bad,
- 32:16Speaker 1: but they've not been very good.
- 32:17Speaker 2: And that's not fair. You've never seen me run. Was that,
- 32:20Speaker 2: was that.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Miller Moss was the quarterback from last year?
- 32:23Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 32:24Speaker 1: But anyway, but yeah, Miller Moss, I think was the
- 32:28Speaker 1: quarterback from last year.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Is that right? So that's right. Yeah.
- 32:31Speaker 1: He was, he was terrible, but this quarterback is he's
- 32:35Speaker 1: now is UofL football better than they were last year. I,
- 32:40Speaker 1: I tend to think this is a early on. This
- 32:43Speaker 1: is a better team, but I just feel like it's
- 32:47Speaker 1: just the same thing every year. I mean, they're going
- 32:49Speaker 1: to win games they probably shouldn't, and then they're going
- 32:53Speaker 1: to lose games they definitely should not. Last Saturday was
- 32:57Speaker 1: a game UofL never should have lost, especially here in Louisville.
- 33:02Speaker 1: That's a problem.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I agree. I agree.
- 33:06Speaker 1: It's a shame because they had an easy way this
- 33:08Speaker 1: year to get to the college football playoffs.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Well, here's the deal. Everybody got spoiled. problems first year,
- 33:17Speaker 4: would they play? They beat Notre Dame and they played
- 33:22Speaker 4: a week. And I mean, a week ACC schedule. Now
- 33:27Speaker 4: you play who put who's put in front of you.
- 33:30Speaker 4: And that year, I mean, they were better defensively that
- 33:33Speaker 4: year that they'd be in any of the other three
- 33:36Speaker 4: or four years that problem has been there. They weren't
- 33:39Speaker 4: bad defensively. As you recall, And I know Florida State
- 33:43Speaker 4: had a backup quarterback. They held them to, like, I
- 33:47Speaker 4: think 17 points. This defense couldn't hold Trinity High School
- 33:52Speaker 4: to 17 points. Now, that's just my personal opinion. I'm
- 33:57Speaker 4: being a little bit tough on them. I'm sounding like
- 34:00Speaker 4: a fan. But to win in college football and to
- 34:04Speaker 4: win big, you've got to have an Ohio State. I'm
- 34:08Speaker 4: with a crush you type of defense. And Louisville just
- 34:11Speaker 4: doesn't have that.
- 34:12Speaker 2: No, they don't.
- 34:13Speaker 1: And they should have that. So, Ed, I appreciate the
- 34:15Speaker 1: phone call. Before you go, you're a UofL fan, aren't you?
- 34:20Speaker 4: Am I a UofL fan?
- 34:21Speaker 2: No.
- 34:21Speaker 4: I tell my wife, my family is all huge UofL fans.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Huge. Yes, yes.
- 34:26Speaker 4: And I tell my wife, I always bring up the
- 34:30Speaker 4: Fox News. Pair and balance. I always bring that up.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Yes, I'm going to answer your question. Yes. I went
- 34:40Speaker 4: to JCC, which.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Is part of Kentucky. Yes.
- 34:43Speaker 4: And I went to, I went to U of L.
- 34:45Speaker 4: So you can, you can put me, you could pitch
- 34:48Speaker 4: and hold me wherever you want. You like that answer?
- 34:52Speaker 4: I like it.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I like it, Ed. Good call. Thanks for turning this
- 34:57Speaker 2: into just the cards for a little bit. Stop it.
- 35:00Speaker 1: We're not doing that. No, I have told two people
- 35:03Speaker 1: we're never going to do something like that. Just for that,
- 35:07Speaker 1: we're taking a break. My gosh, I got to settle
- 35:09Speaker 1: myself down after you saying something like that.
- 35:12Speaker 2: 502-384-1450. I let him talk way too long, but it
- 35:15Speaker 2: was a fun call. Exactly.
- 35:17Speaker 3: 502-414-1450.
- 35:17Speaker 2: We'll see you in just a second. This is just
- 35:18Speaker 2: a cast. I wish lunch could last forever Make the whole.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Day one big.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Afternoon Now the day is gone.
- 35:53Speaker 3: And I sit alone and think of.
- 35:56Speaker 4: You, girl.
- 35:57Speaker 3: What can I do without you in my life?
- 36:05Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about it.
- 36:07Speaker 1: You know, you just gave me a stat.
- 36:08Speaker 2: That just blew my mind.
- 36:10Speaker 1: You said Steven Peake was talking about it on a
- 36:12Speaker 1: show yesterday.
- 36:13Speaker 2: He talked about this yesterday.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Correct.
- 36:15Speaker 2: On the radio.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Yep.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 36:17Speaker 1: And you said the stat was Mark Pope's first media
- 36:22Speaker 1: conference at UK. How many people were watching on YouTube?
- 36:27Speaker 2: Now, this is only on their YouTube channel, so I'm
- 36:29Speaker 2: sure it's not conducive of all the numbers. Right. But
- 36:32Speaker 2: on their YouTube page, 32,000. In his introductory press conference.
- 36:37Speaker 2: All right. Last year, it was down to 24,000. And
- 36:41Speaker 2: now I get that it just happened earlier this week,
- 36:43Speaker 2: so these numbers will probably go up a little bit.
- 36:46Speaker 2: But this year, his press conference only got 7,500 views.
- 36:50Speaker 1: That blows my mind away hearing that. That tells you
- 36:53Speaker 1: where the fan base is at with this guy.
- 36:55Speaker 2: And why?
- 36:56Speaker 1: Why is the fan base turning on Mark Pope in
- 36:59Speaker 1: your mind?
- 36:59Speaker 2: Because there hasn't been success. freaking time seems like you
- 37:07Speaker 2: can't go a week without hearing something about an injury
- 37:10Speaker 2: which may or may not be his fault but he's
- 37:12Speaker 2: gonna get the blame for it because he's the top guy.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Well he is i mean you can't you've always got
- 37:18Speaker 1: to find know that somebody's going to get injured And
- 37:22Speaker 1: it's like, okay, who's the backup? And you thought he
- 37:24Speaker 1: would have gotten enough. Now, he still has a vacancy
- 37:28Speaker 1: on the team with one more player. I don't know
- 37:30Speaker 1: how you can add a player at this point, but
- 37:32Speaker 1: evidently you can. No, there's always going to be an
- 37:34Speaker 1: injunction somewhere. School started like a month ago, but let's
- 37:38Speaker 1: bring a player in, and there he is.
- 37:39Speaker 2: He's playing. Oh, my gosh.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Just the fact that these athletes are getting a free education.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Don't get me on the soapbox. Free education, and they're
- 37:48Speaker 1: not taking advantage of it just drives me nuts.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:51Speaker 1: And then why do you think he doesn't, he still
- 37:55Speaker 1: has a vacancy on the staff.
- 37:58Speaker 2: That's the part. I didn't know that.
- 37:59Speaker 1: He still has a vacancy on the staff. That's the
- 38:02Speaker 1: part that really, that probably concerns me even more.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I was thinking the exact same thing. Yeah. Yeah. Wow.
- 38:11Speaker 2: I mean, cause you like, obviously Mark Pope isn't the
- 38:15Speaker 2: best of the best coach in the country. I think
- 38:17Speaker 2: we can all agree on that. So the, the more,
- 38:20Speaker 2: Assistance that you have that you can lean on for
- 38:23Speaker 2: their opinion or their advice or their basketball knowledge is
- 38:27Speaker 2: going to– that's better for you. Yeah. So, I mean,
- 38:31Speaker 2: if I'm a head coach across the country, I am
- 38:33Speaker 2: filling every single coaching spot available that I can. Yeah.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I'm not leaving one open.
- 38:39Speaker 1: What– Neither am I. I mean, I'm trying to find
- 38:41Speaker 1: all the help I can out there.
- 38:42Speaker 2: I mean, I understand it from a player perspective, leaving
- 38:45Speaker 2: a spot open just because you've got some goofy things
- 38:49Speaker 2: that could happen. Maybe you get somebody enrolled mid-year. Maybe
- 38:52Speaker 2: you just feel comfortable enough with your roster as it
- 38:55Speaker 2: is that you don't feel the need to add somebody else.
- 38:57Speaker 2: But from a coaching perspective, it doesn't really make sense. Yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Well, exactly. And is that the writing on the wall?
- 39:05Speaker 1: Other coaches are looking and saying, well, I don't want
- 39:08Speaker 1: to move to Kentucky for just one year.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I mean, that's the part. That's the way I look.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Has that position been offered to anybody, I guess, would
- 39:14Speaker 2: be the fair.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you would think so. Well, it has been to one. Remember,
- 39:18Speaker 1: it was the one guy that turned it down. He
- 39:20Speaker 1: was going to say what he was doing. But I
- 39:23Speaker 1: don't know if it's been offered to anybody else. I mean,
- 39:25Speaker 1: maybe he's having a Zoom call with other potential coaches.
- 39:28Speaker 1: We just haven't had any. reports on it yet. So sorry,
- 39:31Speaker 1: I'm just kidding. But I listen, I, the, the numbers
- 39:37Speaker 1: you just gave me with the, and I granted, I
- 39:39Speaker 1: know it's just one website, but It's a pretty well-known website.
- 39:45Speaker 1: And to have those drastic numbers in two years.
- 39:49Speaker 2: I'm sure if you go across to other Kentucky websites,
- 39:51Speaker 2: it's probably similar. I would think so.
- 39:55Speaker 1: But we've gone from this is our guy. He's a
- 40:00Speaker 1: former player to now it's like, okay, yeah, we need
- 40:04Speaker 1: to go somewhere else. And I think injury has had
- 40:09Speaker 1: a play in this. But it's just it's so disappointing
- 40:13Speaker 1: to see that. And because I'm kind of feeling that way, too.
- 40:16Speaker 1: It's like, does part of me want him to not
- 40:20Speaker 1: be here next year? I'd be lying if I said no.
- 40:26Speaker 1: I mean, I.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Don't think you're the only one. I mean, I was
- 40:29Speaker 2: telling you off air when I went golfing the other
- 40:31Speaker 2: day with my Kentucky buddy before we even started golfing.
- 40:35Speaker 2: He looks at me unprompted. I didn't bring this up
- 40:38Speaker 2: to him at all. He just points at me and
- 40:40Speaker 2: he goes, I'm all in on Will Stein. I'm out
- 40:42Speaker 2: on Mark Pope. Yeah. I mean, that was like the
- 40:45Speaker 2: first thing he said to me when we went the
- 40:47Speaker 2: other day.
- 40:48Speaker 1: That's interesting to say. I mean, to be the first thing,
- 40:52Speaker 1: not even hello or anything, but that was on his mind.
- 40:55Speaker 2: He probably said hello.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Okay, but that's what stuck out in your mind right there.
- 40:59Speaker 1: And I feel like that's everybody that comes to talk
- 41:02Speaker 1: to me, you know, the ones that know what I
- 41:04Speaker 1: do and the people that I know and people I
- 41:07Speaker 1: don't know come up to me, what? what's going to
- 41:10Speaker 1: happen this year in basketball? That's always the first question.
- 41:14Speaker 1: And then the other one is, hey, how much fun
- 41:16Speaker 1: is football right now? And, you know, this is kind
- 41:19Speaker 1: of how new football coaches go. They're excited in the
- 41:24Speaker 1: very beginning. Do I think this is going to last?
- 41:28Speaker 1: I kind of have an eerie confidence that Will Stein
- 41:31Speaker 1: is going to succeed at UK now. Now, granted, we've
- 41:34Speaker 1: only played four games and we're feeling this way.
- 41:42Speaker 2: I just, I don't know.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I can't describe why I feel this way. Does that
- 41:46Speaker 1: make any sense that I should feel this way about
- 41:48Speaker 1: Will Stein or it's way too early?
- 41:51Speaker 2: No, I mean, he's provided some really exciting moments. Yeah,
- 41:54Speaker 2: he really has not. I know you end up losing
- 41:56Speaker 2: that Alabama game by 28, but that being his first
- 41:59Speaker 2: big time game and you've got a lead at half,
- 42:02Speaker 2: like that's something you may not remember the end result,
- 42:05Speaker 2: but you'll always remember that his first big time opportunity
- 42:08Speaker 2: in an SEC game Came against Alabama, and you were
- 42:11Speaker 2: leading at half. Yeah. And then you go back the
- 42:14Speaker 2: next week, and you take care of Texas A &
- 42:16Speaker 2: M on the road, who at the time was a
- 42:18Speaker 2: top-ten team. Yeah. Those are some fun moments to hang
- 42:21Speaker 2: on to. And we're just getting started, bro. Oh, here
- 42:25Speaker 2: we go. Thanks, you Mark Stoops. I mean, come on, man.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Well, the whole feed the studs. And now he's got
- 42:32Speaker 1: all these players coming in here. And, you know, it
- 42:34Speaker 1: was thought that the kid from Christian Academy– The whole.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Time was going to UofL. Is that to hide Brown? Yes.
- 42:42Speaker 1: And now it looks like there's already been a prediction
- 42:46Speaker 1: that he's coming to UK.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Apparently, from what I heard, Louisville already re-upped with him,
- 42:53Speaker 2: and that whole situation's good. But that being said, would
- 42:57Speaker 2: I be surprised if he ends up flipping to Kentucky?
- 43:00Speaker 2: Not really. I wouldn't be either.
- 43:03Speaker 1: And I tell you what, I think my buddy over
- 43:07Speaker 1: there at UofL has got a real fight amongst him
- 43:09Speaker 1: that he did not expect. And it's going to be
- 43:13Speaker 1: interesting to see how this plays out. Listen, I don't
- 43:16Speaker 1: want to see those guys lose their job over there.
- 43:18Speaker 2: I really, I do. I like Jeff Brum. I don't
- 43:22Speaker 2: think he's in danger of losing his job. Not now.
- 43:25Speaker 3: No.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And I hope my buddy Vince doesn't lose his job either.
- 43:29Speaker 1: I hope they have a long career there. But at
- 43:32Speaker 1: the end of the season, I hope they lose every
- 43:34Speaker 1: single time. I feel that way every single year. So,
- 43:38Speaker 1: John here again. Hey, Kentucky needs to go 3-0 coming
- 43:42Speaker 1: up to be taken seriously in college football. Now, if
- 43:46Speaker 1: they do that, they will be in the top ten. Also, Justin,
- 43:50Speaker 1: then would owe me money.
- 43:52Speaker 2: John, you've got enough money. I don't know how you score.
- 43:55Speaker 1: I mean, what are the chances? What percentage chance they
- 43:59Speaker 1: go 3-0?
- 44:01Speaker 2: Not. Yeah. 0%.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Oh, you give it 0%. I'm not giving it 0%,
- 44:06Speaker 1: but it will be probably a 15%.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Who's after LSU? At Tennessee? At Tennessee. Yeah, 0%.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so they got South Carolina, LSU, and then at Tennessee.
- 44:21Speaker 1: So two away games and one home game. The game
- 44:26Speaker 1: I think they have the best chance of winning is
- 44:27Speaker 1: South Carolina.
- 44:28Speaker 2: That's the away game. Yeah, agreed.
- 44:30Speaker 1: But as far as LSU or at home or Tennessee
- 44:35Speaker 1: and Knoxville, which game do you give a better shot
- 44:38Speaker 1: of winning of those two?
- 44:40Speaker 2: Neither.
- 44:42Speaker 1: You give 0% chance for either of those games. I
- 44:45Speaker 1: don't think they win either of those games. But what percentage, though?
- 44:49Speaker 1: I mean, if you're making me put a percentage on it.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I'm making you put one.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I'll give them 2% against LSU and literally 0% against Tennessee. Okay.
- 44:58Speaker 2: I mean, Tennessee took Texas down to the wire. Yeah.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Lost by three.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:02Speaker 1: One person said, I personally don't think it's everyone hating
- 45:05Speaker 1: on Mark Pope. You made a good point the other
- 45:07Speaker 1: day about how scrambled and quick media day came, so
- 45:12Speaker 1: I don't think many really even knew it was happening.
- 45:15Speaker 1: You're exactly correct. There is something to be said for that. Plus,
- 45:18Speaker 1: for the first time in a while, most fans are
- 45:20Speaker 1: still locked into football and not just overlooking October towards
- 45:26Speaker 1: basketball season. Loving this football team, so I'm 100% focused
- 45:30Speaker 1: on them and will enjoy basketball.
- 45:33Speaker 2: After.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And yes, it was disappointing second season, but let's not
- 45:37Speaker 1: write off the first season making the Sweet 16 something
- 45:40Speaker 1: we hadn't been able to do to experience in quite
- 45:43Speaker 1: a while. Last year, he had very few guys that
- 45:47Speaker 1: seemed to bought in and more focused on the money
- 45:49Speaker 1: this year. It looks like we have guys ready to
- 45:52Speaker 1: play for the same name across the front. So there
- 45:54Speaker 1: you go. I'll get to the rest of the text
- 45:56Speaker 1: when we get back. Hour two coming right up.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Stay right there. We'll talk basketball as soon as we
- 46:00Speaker 2: get back. And how it might have been Hear the.
- 46:04Speaker 3: Nightbird cry Listen to the nightbird cry Watch the sun
- 46:14Speaker 3: set down.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. 502-384-1450.
- 46:26Speaker 1: You want to call 502-414-1450. You want to text in
- 46:31Speaker 1: on the Whiskey Thief text line or you tweet me
- 46:32Speaker 1: at Just the Cat Radio. So first time in 200 years,
- 46:37Speaker 1: maybe that's the problem with Tennessee. They could not, you know,
- 46:42Speaker 1: unfortunately put someone to the next life.
- 46:46Speaker 2: What a mess. Exactly.
- 46:49Speaker 1: I mean, at this point, I know the lady didn't
- 46:53Speaker 1: do good things to other people, but do you feel
- 46:56Speaker 1: a little bad for her? I mean, mentally, that's got
- 47:00Speaker 1: to take it out on you.
- 47:02Speaker 2: I mean, not really, because... So, do you know what
- 47:05Speaker 2: happened before the botched execution? No, I have no idea. So, apparently,
- 47:10Speaker 2: they had gotten everything ready. This is what I read yesterday. Okay.
- 47:15Speaker 2: And they prepared her final meal and all that. Right.
- 47:18Speaker 2: And then an hour before it was supposed to go down...
- 47:21Speaker 2: They halted it because there was something not right in
- 47:24Speaker 2: the court system. Something was amiss, and they couldn't legally,
- 47:29Speaker 2: I guess, go through with it at that juncture. So,
- 47:32Speaker 2: gosh dang it. Tell everybody why you said that. No,
- 47:38Speaker 2: I don't need to. No, I don't need to. So,
- 47:43Speaker 2: I mean, I would like to think that prior to
- 47:46Speaker 2: them actually trying to do it last night. Right. She
- 47:49Speaker 2: would have technically got a second last meal, right? Yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 2: I mean, I like to think that anyway. Did she
- 47:55Speaker 2: get one or not? I don't know.
- 47:56Speaker 1: At this point, do you want to know what her
- 47:58Speaker 1: last meal has been twice?
- 47:59Speaker 3: I do.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah. Absolutely. But then, I mean, if the reports
- 48:03Speaker 2: are true from this morning and she- literally is still
- 48:06Speaker 2: alive is she gonna get another last meal yeah or
- 48:09Speaker 2: do they go about doing this a different way it
- 48:11Speaker 2: was now the the whole botched of injecting her with
- 48:14Speaker 2: the poison that didn't go well so they took her
- 48:17Speaker 2: to the hospital that's the crazy part wait a minute
- 48:20Speaker 2: wait a minute you're trying to execute this lady it
- 48:24Speaker 2: doesn't go well so you take her to the hospital
- 48:26Speaker 2: to save.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Her that that that makes zero sense.
- 48:29Speaker 2: To me i mean you got to think about quality
- 48:31Speaker 2: of life in those final minutes Come on, man.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Quality of life for your final minute.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Have a heart.
- 48:37Speaker 1: I'm curious what your final meal would be. When the
- 48:42Speaker 1: day comes, God forbid you know when you're going to
- 48:46Speaker 1: pass away. I don't want to know when I'm going
- 48:48Speaker 1: to die. But what would your last meal be, Justin Kalen?
- 48:53Speaker 2: I would have to have Bob Evans biscuits and gravy.
- 48:58Speaker 2: no question of course yes i want the crispiest bacon
- 49:01Speaker 2: that you can possibly make give me the crispy bacon
- 49:06Speaker 2: and i would probably do so you're going breakfast well
- 49:10Speaker 2: that would just be one part of it i've seen
- 49:12Speaker 2: some massive final meals and despite not being able to
- 49:15Speaker 2: eat a lot i would sit there and eat it all.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Would you really? I would have to have a chicken
- 49:20Speaker 2: sandwich from the Lord's place. The Lord's? Oh, yeah. The
- 49:25Speaker 2: Lord's chicken. Whatever. And then, really, if I had that
- 49:30Speaker 2: along with a Mountain Dew Code Red, maybe, I think
- 49:33Speaker 2: that would be pretty sufficient. Really? Yeah. I'm going to something.
- 49:37Speaker 2: I'm going.
- 49:38Speaker 1: King crab, nothing but king crab.
- 49:41Speaker 2: God, dang it. Yeah, throw some crab in there. It's
- 49:43Speaker 2: too late. No, you're dead. Nope, nope, nope.
- 49:45Speaker 1: You're dead, so you don't get to choose anymore.
- 49:47Speaker 2: No, they're going to bring me back like this lady,
- 49:49Speaker 2: and I'm going to get to eat again.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so you can mix it up. Hey, I want
- 49:54Speaker 1: a completely different meal. Yeah, I'm going king crab, the ribeye,
- 49:58Speaker 1: the cap of the ribeye, which is my favorite part
- 50:01Speaker 1: of it, and I don't know if I want anything else.
- 50:04Speaker 2: That's it. Maybe some lobster. Eh, lobster's a little over.
- 50:08Speaker 2: You think so? It's good, but it's... I like it.
- 50:11Speaker 2: I think it's not as good as the love that
- 50:12Speaker 2: it gives. It's not as good as the price it gets.
- 50:15Speaker 2: That's true, too. Yeah.
- 50:17Speaker 1: I'll take the crab all day long. And I don't
- 50:18Speaker 1: care what kind of crab it is. I want crabs. Well,
- 50:22Speaker 1: let me rephrase that. I want to eat crabs. So anyway,
- 50:27Speaker 1: but I feel like this is just a strange situation.
- 50:32Speaker 1: I mean, how do you screw all that up with
- 50:33Speaker 1: that woman?
- 50:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you have one job. Yeah. Literally one job. Yeah.
- 50:38Speaker 1: I mean, it's hard to feel bad because I feel
- 50:40Speaker 1: bad for the people she tragically took their life and
- 50:45Speaker 1: hurt the families of them. I mean, I'm sympathetic towards them,
- 50:49Speaker 1: but more so. But it's just a horrible situation. But
- 50:54Speaker 1: 200 years they haven't done this in the state of Tennessee.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Maybe they should make it 200 more years. But anyway,
- 51:00Speaker 1: it is interesting that it's been that long since another
- 51:03Speaker 1: woman has been executed. What a morbid conversation we're having
- 51:09Speaker 1: right now.
- 51:10Speaker 2: I mean, but some people deserve it, you know? You
- 51:12Speaker 2: think so?
- 51:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:14Speaker 2: Okay. Like the old buddy that killed the cop earlier
- 51:17Speaker 2: this week. Yeah. If they wanted to do that to him,
- 51:19Speaker 2: I'm fine with it. Yeah. By the way, did you see?
- 51:23Speaker 2: I saw this yesterday. Did you know that all the
- 51:26Speaker 2: other responding officers, they took the dead cop's handcuffs? And
- 51:33Speaker 2: when they caught the guy, they put his handcuffs on him. Oh, really? Symbolic?
- 51:37Speaker 2: That's pretty cool. Yeah.
- 51:38Speaker 1: That's pretty freaking cool. I wonder if they told him
- 51:41Speaker 1: that's what they were using. Oh, I guarantee you.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Anyway, just terrible. Anyway, let's get back to some fun topics.
- 51:49Speaker 1: One person texted and said, let's also remember Scoots gave
- 51:52Speaker 1: us a 0% chance against Texas.
- 51:55Speaker 2: A & M. That's a good point. True.
- 51:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go.
- 51:59Speaker 1: I could not agree with you more on that. As
- 52:01Speaker 1: far as Pope, let's look at his history. First year,
- 52:05Speaker 1: put together a likable, competitive, but not great team. List
- 52:11Speaker 1: best players and still beat Duke.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Florida, Gonzaga. Did I say it right? Yeah. Okay. Well done.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Thank Louisville and Tennessee. X2 last year lost PG again.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Weird roster construction this year. I like this roster.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Same. Do you really? I do. Okay. I think this
- 52:36Speaker 2: is a really good roster.
- 52:40Speaker 1: To me, it feels like a hodgepodge, just to let
- 52:43Speaker 1: you know. But I hope I'm wrong about this. But,
- 52:48Speaker 1: all right, let's talk about this year's roster. Last year,
- 52:52Speaker 1: do you remember who you picked last year as your
- 52:54Speaker 1: surprise player?
- 52:55Speaker 2: I don't. Oh, you don't really? Do you remember? Absolutely,
- 52:59Speaker 2: I do. Who did I pick?
- 53:01Speaker 1: Oh, I don't remember who you picked. I remember who
- 53:02Speaker 1: I picked. You said you remembered who I picked. No,
- 53:05Speaker 1: I think you picked Brandon Garrison. Absolutely not. Although, I'm
- 53:10Speaker 1: pretty sure I did say Moe Diabate.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Oh, did you say Moe Diabate? Pretty sure that was
- 53:14Speaker 2: my guy. All right. This year... You went Cam Williams, right?
- 53:22Speaker 2: I sure did.
- 53:23Speaker 1: And I still believe in Cam Williams. He's not going
- 53:25Speaker 1: to be the surprise player for me this year, though.
- 53:29Speaker 1: I don't want to influence you on this either. So
- 53:31Speaker 1: I want you to go first. Oh, you're not influencing me.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I've got my own.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Oh, you already have it? Okay, then if you want
- 53:36Speaker 1: me to, I'll go first.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Go ahead. All right. Usman Ndiaye.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Okay.
- 53:41Speaker 2: Why do you say that?
- 53:43Speaker 1: That's why it's a surprise. You least expected him to
- 53:47Speaker 1: do really well.
- 53:48Speaker 2: By the way, the dude looks– no, I'm sorry.
- 53:50Speaker 1: I told you the wrong– no, it is Usme. Yeah.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Why are you laughing at me?
- 53:57Speaker 2: I mean, you could end up being right with this.
- 53:59Speaker 2: I'm not saying that you could be wrong. Yeah. But
- 54:02Speaker 2: he's just such an unknown commodity. Oh, very. I just–
- 54:05Speaker 2: I don't know what to expect out of him at all. Like,
- 54:08Speaker 2: if you tell me he's playing– four or five minutes
- 54:11Speaker 2: a game and spot minutes, I'd believe that. If you
- 54:14Speaker 2: tell me he's out there for 20, 25 minutes a game,
- 54:17Speaker 2: I'd believe that.
- 54:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Well, Malachi Moreno came out and said he believes he
- 54:22Speaker 1: could potentially be an All-American at UK.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Usmane? Usmane. Yeah.
- 54:27Speaker 1: And by the way, yes. I don't know if he
- 54:32Speaker 1: made it clear it was going to be this year,
- 54:33Speaker 1: but the dude's working like crazy. The other one I
- 54:35Speaker 1: kind of think is the same way is Frank Kepnang.
- 54:37Speaker 2: No way. The guy looks like he's 60 years old,
- 54:40Speaker 2: by the way. He does. I have no belief in Kevin. Really? Okay.
- 54:47Speaker 2: All right, thanks. None at all. But, like the texter
- 54:50Speaker 2: just said, I'm wrong all the time in my predictions. Yeah,
- 54:52Speaker 2: you are. Thank goodness you are. Maybe this is music
- 54:54Speaker 2: to Cats fans' ears. All right.
- 54:55Speaker 1: I'm ready to find out who your surprise player is.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Since you're making fun of mine, I'm going to start laughing. Well,
- 55:01Speaker 1: I always laugh at my own players, so no.
- 55:04Speaker 2: My goodness, that would be terrible. All right. Who's going
- 55:07Speaker 2: to be your player of the year? I'm going with,
- 55:09Speaker 2: this may be a shock. Ooh. I'm going with Alex Wilkins.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Alex Wilkins? Really? Absolutely.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Why are you saying Alex Wilkins?
- 55:18Speaker 2: I just feel like coming from Furman- where he averaged
- 55:21Speaker 2: nearly 18 points a game. Yeah. There's, When you move
- 55:25Speaker 2: up to this level, I feel like to be ballsy
- 55:28Speaker 2: enough to go to a spot like Kentucky, you've got
- 55:31Speaker 2: to have a little bit of a chip on your shoulder, right?
- 55:33Speaker 2: And a guy who had success like that at Furman,
- 55:36Speaker 2: which is a much lower level of basketball, I realize that.
- 55:39Speaker 2: I don't anticipate him putting up 18 points a game
- 55:42Speaker 2: this year. But that shows me that he's confident in
- 55:45Speaker 2: his game. He knows what he's good and not good at.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I mean, he's just going to go out there and
- 55:50Speaker 2: make the smart plays, I have a feeling. And I
- 55:52Speaker 2: can see him. around 13, 14, maybe 15 points a game.
- 55:56Speaker 2: I like that. That'll be good. Yeah, I think he's
- 55:59Speaker 2: going to be a really good player. I mean, and
- 56:01Speaker 2: when you think about the Mark Pope team so far,
- 56:02Speaker 2: the first two years, the depth at guard, specifically– has
- 56:08Speaker 2: been very underwhelming. Whereas this year's roster, it feels like
- 56:12Speaker 2: you do have more depth. Way too many guards.
- 56:14Speaker 1: And I think Alex Wilkins is going to be a
- 56:16Speaker 1: major part. And now where we're going to hurt is
- 56:18Speaker 1: on the front court. We've been fairly good on the
- 56:22Speaker 1: front court.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Not unless, I mean, if your predictions comes true of
- 56:25Speaker 2: Ajayi and Kepnong being better or being good for this team,
- 56:29Speaker 2: then is there really an issue on the front court?
- 56:32Speaker 1: Hopefully not between Kepnong and... And Daiei and Moreno, that's
- 56:37Speaker 1: pretty strong right there. And I hope that Malachi does
- 56:41Speaker 1: make that big step because everybody's predicting it. And sometimes
- 56:46Speaker 1: you worry, okay, is that getting too much into his head?
- 56:50Speaker 1: Not as far as an ego side. I'm talking about
- 56:54Speaker 1: the pressure mounting for him that, okay, this is a
- 56:57Speaker 1: big year for me. I have to perform. And sometimes
- 57:00Speaker 1: that works. And there are some times it does not work.
- 57:03Speaker 1: So I do worry about that with Malachi. I hope
- 57:06Speaker 1: it does work. Listen, I think, no, I don't want
- 57:11Speaker 1: to say. Who's going to be the best player on
- 57:12Speaker 1: the team? Who is going to be the go-to player?
- 57:17Speaker 1: Because I've got three names right now. I think it
- 57:19Speaker 1: could potentially be maybe four names, but I definitely have
- 57:23Speaker 1: three names. Who do you think are the top two players?
- 57:27Speaker 1: that will be the go-to players for UK this coming
- 57:30Speaker 1: season in basketball.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Am I crazy if I say I don't think there's
- 57:33Speaker 2: going to be a go-to player? Oh, really?
- 57:35Speaker 1: You think it's going to be a combination of a
- 57:36Speaker 1: lot of players? I don't think that's crazy at all.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I think this is going to be the best edition.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Of a Mark Post team. And I use the word
- 57:45Speaker 2: team strongly here because I think everybody's going to play
- 57:49Speaker 2: their part. You're going to have games where maybe Malachi's
- 57:52Speaker 2: leading scorer. You're going to have games where maybe it's
- 57:54Speaker 2: Zoom or Alex or Cam. I just think the way
- 57:57Speaker 2: this roster is set up, It's set up for guys
- 58:00Speaker 2: to feed off of each other. So I really, unlike
- 58:03Speaker 2: in past years when you had Otago away, who was
- 58:05Speaker 2: the alpha, I don't think there's necessarily an alpha on
- 58:08Speaker 2: this team. Really?
- 58:09Speaker 1: Yeah, because I think, I do. I really believe there is.
- 58:13Speaker 1: A lot of people are talking about Zoom Diallo and
- 58:15Speaker 1: what a leader he is. As soon as they see
- 58:17Speaker 1: five minutes of a practice, Zoom is that leader. And
- 58:21Speaker 1: I truly believe that. And I think right behind him
- 58:23Speaker 1: is Milan Momchilovic. And I think he is going to
- 58:27Speaker 1: be the go-to player. When we need points on the
- 58:31Speaker 1: board at the end of a game with. 1 second
- 58:34Speaker 1: left on the clock, I think they're going straight to Momchilovich.
- 58:38Speaker 1: I really do. I don't think it's going to be Moreno.
- 58:41Speaker 1: I don't think it's going to be one of the guards.
- 58:42Speaker 1: I think it's going to be him. Now, the other
- 58:44Speaker 1: surprise player, I'm really going to shock you, okay?
- 58:47Speaker 3: Okay.
- 58:48Speaker 2: Mason Williams.
- 58:50Speaker 1: I think we're all going to be totally shocked, including me,
- 58:53Speaker 1: shocked by Mason Williams. And his play. And how hard
- 58:57Speaker 1: he works. Because that's all they talk about. The players
- 58:59Speaker 1: talk about it. The coaches talk about it. And I
- 59:02Speaker 1: really believe. When when you have the players talking coaches
- 59:06Speaker 1: are one thing but when you have the the players
- 59:08Speaker 1: saying man he's one of the hardest working players on
- 59:10Speaker 1: this team i feel like that's going to get him
- 59:12Speaker 1: some minutes and it's going to be a surprise.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Out there he's a freshman right i know he's a
- 59:16Speaker 2: freshman yeah.
- 59:17Speaker 1: He has the energy is never going to be a
- 59:19Speaker 1: problem no i don't think so plus it helps his
- 59:23Speaker 1: dad's a coach too true So I think that he
- 59:27Speaker 1: has that coach mentality in him, growing up with a
- 59:30Speaker 1: dad that's been a coach his entire life.
- 59:33Speaker 2: I can see Mason being a big part. Can you really?
- 59:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:36Speaker 1: I don't think it'll be much at first.
- 59:38Speaker 2: Probably not. But I think it'll take some time.
- 59:40Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. It'll take some time. But anyway, I'm ready.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Listen. What about Braden Hawthorne? What about him? How you
- 59:48Speaker 2: feel about him going in?
- 59:51Speaker 1: I need more information before we say.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair. Yeah.
- 59:56Speaker 1: I am unsure on him because he didn't play any
- 59:59Speaker 1: at all.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: By the way, we forgot about Justin McBride.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: In that front court. Yeah. I know. Front court's not
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: a problem. Yeah.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Another guy that looks– he doesn't look old as Kepnong,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: but he's one of those guys that looks like he's
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: probably in his 30s.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: He kind of looks like Eric Bledsoe. Oh, that's a
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: good comparison right there. Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: He does look like Eric Bledsoe.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: He does. Except for the hair. Eric had some long
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: hair at one point.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: But not like that. I mean, it almost looks like
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: he has a tarantula on the back.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: Of his head. Let me just say, there's a lot
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: of hair on this team. Yeah. Yeah, there is. A
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: lot of hair. Yeah.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: And you know what? I think between Jerome Morton. Cam Williams,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: you got Zoom Diablo, Alex Wilkins, Justin McBride. Then you
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: got Malachi has some long hair, but the guy that
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: probably has the hair, Reese Potter.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Reese Potter. He needs a haircut, okay? Him and Trent
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Noah look the exact same. Do they really? No, they don't.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: In terms of their hair. Yeah. That's how they do.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: It's in their media pictures.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: I don't think they've had a hairbrush in their hand
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: in some time, especially Reese Potter. I'm only joking, okay?
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: No, you're not. And it's fine. Okay. It's just their hair. Yeah,
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: But yeah, poor Reese Potter. He needs a hairbrush. I mean,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: he just does.
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Yeah. You think we see much of him this year? No.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: You don't? No.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And if I'm completely honest, I don't know if we
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: see much of Trent Noah. I'm with you on that.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: Yeah. As much as I want, what are they? Mountain Mamba?
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Mountain Mamba. Yeah. On the court.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I just, I don't know. I just don't, I don't
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: have that confidence in him yet. I hope I'm wrong.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Completely wrong.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: But we'll see how it goes. Now, the other thing
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: that they did, which, again, a strange thing. UK men's
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: basketball having an open practice Saturday night, 8 o'clock at Rupp.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: And it's for the Big Blue Nation, the BBN United members. So,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: you know, you got to join to be able to go.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: And I don't get this. It's another example. You know,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: we were talking about just a little bit ago. How
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: we just found out about the media day being a
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: week later. Now we're finding about an open practice for
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: BBN United members that were up this weekend at 8.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Just a few days before.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I mean, don't you think people have already made plans
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: for the weekend by now?
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Probably. Unless you're me. Well, yeah. Or me.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: But I don't make any plans. It's always somebody else
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: in my life that makes the plans.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: I found out.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I found out yesterday I'm having dinner with some people tonight.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: It's like, oh, okay. Well, thanks for letting me know.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: I had to. Well, no, I wasn't free. I had
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: to cancel something. That sucks. Yeah.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: So I had to go out and say, guys, I'm sorry.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: I was going out with a couple of guys today.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: One trainer and another really good friend of mine that
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: uses this horse trainer. I said, I'm sorry. My wife
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: has already made dinner plans. I can't go tonight. Can't
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: you shift to lunch? Uh, evidently ruin dinner. No, they
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: were both busy during lunch.
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: One guy's got a full-time job. Well, they both have
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: full-time jobs, but one is like, I can't take lunch.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Wait, horse trainers. No, no, no. The other guy. That's
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: not a horse trainer. I was about to say a
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: horse trainer would be his job. Oh, he would be
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: completely open. Yeah.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Unless, well, no, nobody's racing right now. Keeneland opens tomorrow.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: So that'll be fun.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: But yeah. Am I going tomorrow?
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: No.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: I'm kind of one of the weird ones. Keeneland's not
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: my favorite racetrack.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: Same. Yeah. I've never been. I just don't want to
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: dress up.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: See, that's the problem right there. You just described everything
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: in the nutshell. So everyone that's listening over in Lexington
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: or here in Louisville that love Keeneland, I'm sorry. I
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: want to go to the racetrack comfortable. And to force
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: me to wear a coat and tie is just ridiculous.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: I go to Churchill Downs, go to the Turf Club,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: and I got comfortable clothes on. Now, they're not shorts,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: and they're not blue jeans, but I am comfortable. Nobody
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: wears ties anymore.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Do they?
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: When's the last time you wore a tie?
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: Oh, man. I wear one every Christmas. Oh, do you really?
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: That's about it, yeah.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: When you go to your parents' house, you wear a tie?
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: When I go to my grandparents', yeah. That's really nice.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: Because they're very traditional. We always all dress really nice.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: And to the nines. I love how you are with that, so... No,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I'm trying to think the last time I wore a tie.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: But if I throw out Christmases, I couldn't tell you
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: the last time I wore a tie. Really? Yeah. Maybe
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: I did for Derby. Yeah.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: By the way, what's the over-under for Christmas commercials starting
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: to play now? They shouldn't be starting to play now, right?
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: They're going to. I'm telling you right now, as soon
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: as October hits, here come the commercials. I mean, the
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Christmas commercials. I haven't even put up my Halloween decorations yet.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Really? I'm telling you. I think....
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: October 10th is the over-under that they start. And I
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: bet it's right there on October 10th.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: No, I'll take over. Won't be until after my birthday. Okay.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Your birthday is the 15th? Correct. Okay, so you're saying
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: the 15th. No, I'm saying any time after the 15th. Yeah,
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: after the 15th. So I'm going to be right. Yeah. Okay, fine.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: You're going to be right. I'll let you win this one,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: but you're wrong 99% of the time just to let
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: I'm wrong a lot. Yeah, you are. Good thing I'm
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: not married. That's what makes it fun. I hear how
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: wrong I am all the time on radio. Could I
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: imagine how it would be like being married? I wouldn't
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: have any confidence. Welcome to my world. So, yeah, you're
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: exactly correct. All right.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Again, the text line is just as slow as it
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: can be today. I'd love to hear from you.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: 502-384-1450.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: You want to call.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Don't text to that number. I wonder what would happen
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: if they texted that number.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Anything? Not sure. Okay. 502-414-1450. I'm going to text it
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: during the break. No, please don't text it. No.
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: Why?
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Okay, text it. Whatever you want to do. I mean,
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: how boring. 502-414-1450.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: You want to text on the Whiskey Thief text line.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: We'll stay right there. We got more Just the Cats
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: coming right up.
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: We could move somewhere where the houses aren't all the same.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Jimmy, I wish you would take me where.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: The grass is a greener I really couldn't say where
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: it may be Somewhere high on a mountain top Or
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: down by.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: The deep blue sea There we go guitar solo ¶
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: I'm nobody from nowhere ¶ You'd have.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Ever heard of anyway.
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: ¶ Ain't no city way down there ¶ You could
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: have heard a pin drop ¶ Any time of day ¶.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: But I'm not.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm not sad. It might take a whole day
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: just to drive down there and visit.
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: Not to worry, not too bad.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: Nothing much to do, but that ain't such a hardship, really.
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: Is it?
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: 502-384-1450 if you want to call in. Because I'm nobody
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: from nowhere, I can tell you that right now.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: I thought you were going to let the whole song play. Well,
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: I might. I mean, might as well.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: It's a great song.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: I like that song. I'm not complaining about the song. Yeah,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: I know. Come on, man. Okay. Sometimes I like to
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: let it go a little further.
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: Uh, 502-414-1450.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: I'm sorry if that puts a little pressure on you.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I don't mean to do that, but I just, I
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: like it. I like that. So, uh, uh, one person
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: texted in, if you need a bucket, I think it's
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: going to come from Hawthorne. Then he says, just kidding. Uh,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: it's come, it's coming from Wilkins. So yeah, his pick
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: is Wilkins. Uh, you think so? You think that's a
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: good choice? It's like somebody agrees with me.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Alex Wilkins? Yeah.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: I got it. Because that rarely happens. That is true.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I think hardly anybody agree with both of us, especially me,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: because I came out with more outlandish type ridiculous.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: But that, to me, keeps it fun. By the way,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: the assist preseason All-America team is out. and I think
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: their list is interesting. They have Michigan State Jeremy Fierce Jr.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Rightfully so. Florida's Thomas Ha. Rightfully so. Illinois' David Murkovic. Okay.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: And then Kansas' Tyron Stokes.
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Are you ready for the last one?
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Vanderbilt's Tyler Tanner. That's a great one. Is it really?
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: I was kind of surprised with the Tyler Tanner, quite honestly.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: I know he's great, but again, he's Vanderbilt. What's he
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: doing at Vanderbilt? I mean, putting up huge numbers is
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: what he's doing. Yeah, and that's what's keeping Vanderbilt really
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: relative as far as basketball. They're going to be good
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: this year.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: I mean, he scored 20 points a game last year.
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: I know. Five assists, almost four rebounds, two and a
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: half steals.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: It is kind of weird, though, to see Tyron Stokes
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: at Kansas.
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a little surprised that they put him on there,
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: not seeing him in action yet. But, look, you've got
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: to fill a list of five, and he was the
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: number one overall recruit coming into this class. So I
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: guess it makes sense that they would throw him up there.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: That would be the one that I would have an
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: issue with. I guess.
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what I say. By the way, Cal
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: talked about in Cal's way, of course. He goes, I'm
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: going to say this. I probably shouldn't. I mean, he
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: always says something like that, okay? It's just like, Cal,
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: you got to come up with a new way to
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: present your information.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: I love Cal. Do you? I'm glad somebody does. He's
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: so entertaining.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: But- I'm going to say this. I probably should. Nine
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: of my players make more money than my assistants, and
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: the other three make more money than all my staff,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: and we are not one of the highest payers.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he's right.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Probably shouldn't have said that. Well, he's talking about this
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: all due to the Protect the College Sports Act because
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: he's all for it. He's 1,000% in, and the only
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: reason he's saying this is because it takes care of
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: his narrative. Because, you know, he wants to go into
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: effect because he wants to go back to where you
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: go actually the opposite of what Rick Pitino does. He
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: wants to bring in the high schoolers. That was his success,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: was bringing in high schoolers. Whereas Rick Pitino, his success
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: is bringing in the older guys that are more experienced.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: And that is the way to do it. I mean,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: adapt or die. I still love that line from Moneyball.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: And Cal's not adapting. I think the greatest example of
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: all of this is Dabo Sweeney. I mean, he is
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: not adapting. He is completely dying out there as a coach. Agreed.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: And I don't think he's going to recover at this point.
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: Because so many people look at him not as a
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: winner anymore. They're looking at him.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: As a loser.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: So the recruits that are coming out of the high
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: school today, or even the ones that have experience in college,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: don't really.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Do they remember Clemson as a successful team? How long
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: has it been since they won a championship? Has it
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: been 10 years?
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: Oh, God, yeah. So there you go. So I think
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: it was 13.
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: Was there a lot?
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: Was it, was it 13 years ago?
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Okay. Nevermind then.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: So I look, I look at Cal and like, Oh, nevermind.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: It was 18. Okay.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: So it was eight years ago going on nine now.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: So I look at this and Cal, you're only, this
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: is only helping you. What do you think? I mean,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: does it bother you? I look at the NBA. I
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: look at the NFL. I look, NHL to MLB. There
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: are numerous players out there. And Cal is getting blasted
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: for this. And I think rightfully so.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Because.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: People, you got more players out there that are making
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: all kinds more money than the assistant coaches and the
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: coaches in professional sports. College basketball, football is now a
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: professional sport. We're not going to these games to see
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: the assistant coaches and the coaches.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: We're going there to see the players. So I just
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: think it's kind of ridiculous comment.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: I mean, they should be, the players should be paid
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: more based on what you just said. Cause we're not,
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: you're right. We're not going there to watch the assistant coaches.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Now that being said, Looking at this Arkansas roster, borderline
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: kind of embarrassing that there's that many players making more
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: than their coaching staff because this roster sucks. That's pretty blatant.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: There is no way to sugarcoat it. I do not
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: like this roster at all. You don't? No. Yeah.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: I don't feel bad. And Cal's starting to sweat it
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: out now. Because if they continue to do the same
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: amount that Kentucky does, only making it to, what, the
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Sweet 16? How long do you think Cal is going
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: to be at Arkansas?
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: As long as he wants. You think so? Yeah.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: You think Arkansas fans and all the donors out there
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: giving all the chicken money, you think they're going to
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: tolerate paying all that money to him and they only
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: take the team to the Sweet Six?
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: I mean, how long does he have left anyways, realistically?
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: If Cal could, I bet he'd be coaching another 10
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: years at the very least.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: That would put him at 77. I don't think he
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: ever wants to quit. Probably not.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: He loves his ego is too big for him to quit.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: He wouldn't miss it.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: I don't know what he would do. Yeah.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Kind of like, uh, who was the old, uh, Penn
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: state football coach, Joe Paterno, Joe Paterno.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Did he last a month? Uh, it's a great question.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: I don't think it was that long afterwards that they
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: fired him and then he was gone. I mean, it
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: was just so sad, but, uh, By the way, the
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: University of Tennessee announced yesterday.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Are you ready for this?
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: That they will have a happy hour at Nayland Stadium.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: For the rest of the season. Where the gates will
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: open up at Nayland Stadium three hours ahead of kickoff
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: with concessions and beer half off for the first hour.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: That's incredible. Is this a good idea? Great idea. Really?
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Everybody's going to be hammered. That's exactly right. It's like,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I don't want to go to Nalen Stadium now.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: I do.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: Because I'm the enemy.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: And if I'm going down there, you're going to see
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: a bunch of drunk Tennessee fans coming after me. It just,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: to me, would make it an uncomfortable environment. Even if
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: I'm a fan, it makes it somewhat of an uncomfortable environment. See,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: when I say that they're all going to be hammered,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I truly believe that. I believe it too, but I
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: mean it in the way of, That just means they're
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: going to be loud and rowdy and provide for a
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: great home atmosphere. I don't take it to mean, well,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: they're going to go and attack other.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Oh, I do. I mean, I'm sure that'll happen. Yeah. But,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: by the way, 10 weeks after Joe Paterno was- Okay,
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: so two months, just two and a half months. Yeah. Crazy.
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: I think the anxiety of what all transpired at Penn
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: State and the Nittany Lions and no longer having a
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: purpose in life, his entire life was based on being
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: a head coach.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: At Penn State. He did have lung cancer. Oh, he did? Okay, well,
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: maybe that did something to it, too.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: So everybody's going to tease me about that one.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: So anyway, it's fine. I didn't realize he had lung cancer.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: I didn't either.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I like Joe Paterno. It's a shame what
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: he let aloud happen under his leadership.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: That was, in my lifetime, that was probably the craziest
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: sports story that I can remember. Yeah. I remember when
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: all that came out, and it was just like, wait, what?
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it really was. I mean, it's just crazy how
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: that came out. All right, let's get back to the
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: whole Cal Mark Pope. If they continue to do the
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: same type of success or lack of success at their
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: respective schools, who do you think lasts longer?
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: Cal.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: Mark Pope or Cal? Cal. Yeah, I'm with you. Don't
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: even think it's close.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: Why will they put up with it at Arkansas more
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: than they'll put up with it at UD?
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: Because they're not a traditional power. Have they had successful–
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: They think they are. Have they had successful years? Sure.
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: But are they a traditional– basketball program that you look
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: at and think that they've got a chance to win
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: the title every year?
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: No.
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, they're a football school, which is really
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: embarrassing because football is probably worse than basketball.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I don't know if they would agree with that. Okay, well,
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: I'll go back to South Carolina and then what you
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: said yesterday. They're a baseball school. Yeah, they are a
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: baseball school. Arkansas is probably a baseball school, too. They
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: don't want to hear that. I think Arkansas considers them
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: more of a basketball school. I mean, back in the
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: early 90s when they had Nolan Richardson– And they were
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: having all that tremendous success back then, winning a title
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: with those players. Unbelievable team. That was the heyday of
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: Arkansas basketball, especially that that was.
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: A big rivalry.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: And, you know, Richardson, Nolan Richardson and Rick Patino were
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: big buddies. Before the games would play, they would have
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: both teams on the court shooting around with each other.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: And it was all due to the two head coaches
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: that were buddies. They encouraged it.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: I don't know. I kind of liked it. I kind
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: of didn't.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: I mean, to me, they're going to be enemy number
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: one in a matter of minutes. I don't want them
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: shooting around with other players. Would you like that? I
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: don't think you could get away with that nowadays. No,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: I don't think so either. Yeah, there's too much. disgruntled
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: players out there that went over, especially on the football side.
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: Oh, now, especially with the NIL and players knowing what
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: other players are getting. Yeah. And that's on your own team, too.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Going to be a lot of dissension. I mean, even
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: if you're talking about one or the other, like, let's
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: just say Arkansas is playing Kansas. I mean, and you're
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: shooting around together, knowing that Tyron Stokes made $ 6 million
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: as a freshman, probably going to be pretty ticked off
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: of that guy and try to not necessarily injure him,
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: but I'm going to at least try to get in
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: his head.
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Without a doubt. So, but anyway, all right, let's go
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: ahead and take our last break. How do you like that?
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: Right on time.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: I want to talk about Jameis Winston and, and the
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: bears when we come back. Plus, College football playoffs, it's coming,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: and I don't know if we're going to like this
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: or not. I know you're not going to like this topic,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: but we'll talk about that next.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Stay right there.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: One more segment of Just the Cats coming right up.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: Staring at a starry night sky Dreaming of some place
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: to go To go To go Until that day comes
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: I'll be here Alone without a care Nobody Nobody.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: Nowhere All right, so tonight.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: We've got a couple of football games going on. The
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: Steelers are at the Browns at 8-15 kickoff. Both teams
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: are 2-1. I know you're excited because you're a Steelers fan.
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: I mean, despite being a Steelers fan, I'm really not excited.
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: Are you not? Why? It's a terrible game. Yeah. I
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: try to look at it from a lens of being
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: an outside fan. And would this game excite me?
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: No.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: But why, though? They're both 2-1. It's not like they're
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: my Bucs that are 0-3. What's wrong with this game?
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not a Steelers fan. I'm not a
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Browns fan. I mean, it is for first in the division.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. Absolutely.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: Especially with the Bengals losing last weekend.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Thank you for that win, by the way. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: You're welcome. It's ridiculous. I don't know how they lost
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: that game, the Bengals.
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Me neither.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: I really don't. That's the part that's so frustrating. it's
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: almost like they're UofL. There are games that the Bengals
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: have no way of winning.
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: Win it.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: There are games that they should never lose.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: Lose it.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: And that was a game last week, and I looked
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: as it's one of those games they should. Sorry for
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: your Steelers.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: No, you're right. They should never have lost that. No,
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: not at all.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: The college game tonight that's going to be on ESPN
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: is Western Kentucky, which I think is really cool. They're
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: playing at New Mexico State at 8 o'clock.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I won't watch that. I won't.
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: I'll tune in just for a little bit, just because
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: it's Western Kentucky.
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: I'll be watching baseball, baby. Oh, you will? Yeah, by
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: the way. So it's the Phillies. And the Braves. And
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: the Braves tonight. It's the only game three we get,
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: which is really disappointing. It is. I was hoping we'd
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: have two or three of them.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: But the bad thing about just one game, that one
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: was supposed to be played at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Oh,
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: now it's a night game? And now that it's by itself,
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: they moved it to 8 o'clock. Oh, they did. So primetime.
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: I absolutely hate it. Yeah. I was geared up, ready
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: to watch some baseball this afternoon. Now I got to
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: wait till tonight. Yeah, I understand.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: That's one of the things I love about March Madness
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: or tournament time within the conference tournament because you have
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: games at.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: All hours of the day.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: I loved it when ESPN had the 24-hour day where
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: they were playing games 24 hours.
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Yeah, we actually talked about that on Monday when you
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: were gone. Oh, you did? Oh, okay.
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: Dr.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: John asked me what's one tradition I would like to
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: see come back.
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: That was my answer. I want the 24-hour marathon. You do? Yeah.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: Why won't they do it anymore? There's two things I want.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: I want, like, all the big blue madnesses around the country,
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: whatever the respective schools call them, go back to midnight,
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: and I want our 24-hour marathon.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, see, I don't disagree with you on that.
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: To me, it meant.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: It meant a lot more when you actually were starting
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: the practice on the actual first day of opening practice.
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: And it was at midnight.
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: That was, to me, that was so much fun. I
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: understand why they're doing it because they want more of
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: the families to come and all that stuff.
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: You know what?
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Sometimes families can't make that kind of stuff. But I
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: would love it if they moved it back to midnight.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: I mean, that's what it was. Midnight madness.
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: And it was at Memorial. But.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Oh, well, what do I know? I'm just some idiot. So,
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: by the way, I think I'm becoming more of a
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: Bears fan.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: What? This whole Case Keenum thing. This is a flash
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: in the pan. He's going to be the starter for
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: like two weeks. Oh, is that all Jackson Dart's going
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: to be out? No, you're thinking of Caleb Wood. Oh,
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Caleb Williams. I'm sorry.
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: I said the wrong name. I wouldn't be surprised if
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: he's back this weekend. Yeah, yeah. Oh, really? It's just
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: a flash of the pan. Oh, I hope not. It
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: was fun. It was fun. I mean, he looked really good.
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: He looked like vintage Case Keenum. He did.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: So that was a lot of fun. Anyway, but yeah,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: 38 years old. Don't do that to yourself, Michael.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: Why? Don't become a Bears fan. Because you've got enough
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: disappointment in your sports fandom already. That is true. Do
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: you really want to add another losing franchise?
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: No, no.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you're exactly correct. I don't think I could.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: 48 Handley texting, just joined the show in time to
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: hear the Paterno remarks. You said he allowed it. Not
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: so sure.
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Well, okay. The what remarks? The Joe Paterno. Yeah.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: He notified the appropriate administrative authorities of what was brought
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: to his attention as to what he saw or didn't
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: see is speculation. Paterno donated a sizable amount of money
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: to the university over the years. That is no justification wrongdoing.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: If he did something wrong, it does indicate he cared
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: about young college kids. Don, I don't think that guy
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: would allow them to be abused.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Okay. I mean, I feel the same way for sure.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: I get it. It's kind of like the Patino situation either.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: He either knew or he didn't. Yeah, yeah. And there's
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: really nothing in the middle. No, I know. But who knows?
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: Let's move on from that. I did not have Joe
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: Paterno on my bingo card today. I know, I know.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: It's just one of those things that came up, and boy,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: did it come up today. So sorry about that. By
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: the way, I'm enjoying this whole Jameis Winston thing. Starting
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: with the Giants.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: Why? He's horrible. Oh, absolutely.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: But I love the interviews. I mean, have you heard
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: some of the things he's been saying?
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: No.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: For instance, today is the only day that we have,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: and today was enough.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: What the hell does that mean?
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: He was talking about the Giants' 12-point victory and refusing
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: to worry about whether 12 points will be enough going forward.
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: I thought that was awesome. I mean, he's right. It
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: is like every game is going to be different. Some
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: games you can win with 12 others. You can't. Who
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: is outside talking so loud? The next show. Okay.
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: Good.
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: You need me to settle down. Oh, my goodness.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: He said, I know it's I know it's what's in
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: me and what's on me. Not what's on me today.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: We celebrate a W.
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: I love how he talks.
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: He is so entertaining.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: That's why I'm just ready. I know he's terrible. I'm
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: ready for him to be done with football. Are you really?
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: I just want this dude on the mic. Oh, see,
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: that I don't disagree with. I think, listen, he's not
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: a great quarterback. You're right about that. But somebody's going
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: to hire him, and he's going to be phenomenal.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: And I cannot wait for that to happen. I really can't.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: I was looking forward to Tom Brady. He's been okay,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: but I think he continues to improve.
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: I'm trying to think.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Rob Gronkowski, I always looked forward to him, and I
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: think he continues to do even better. He is so entertaining.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: I think one of the best things would be if
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: they put John Gruden and Rob Gronkowski on the mic together.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: How entertaining would that game be?
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: Both in color? No, no, no, no, no. Because neither
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: one of those guys could do play-by-play. It's okay.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: I think people would tune in. It doesn't matter. Put
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: John Gruden there on the live mic so he's doing play-by-play,
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: and then you got Gronkowski doing color. I think people
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: would tune in for that. That would go off the
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: rails more so than a just a catch-up. And then
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: if you added Bill Walton to it on top of
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: it all.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: Oh, God. I'm out. Oh, come on. You lost me.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: Come on. I couldn't do Walton. Really? He was, he
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: was exhausted. He was bizarre. I rode my bike down
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: the boardwalk. Oh yeah.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Making his tie dye shirts and everything. I know. I
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: was all about Bill Walton. I thought he was entertaining.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: All right. All right.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: What if you put John Gruden along with Rob Gronkowski,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: then you got Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: I mean, I would be unlistenable. Yeah.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: Okay. I definitely couldn't do it. All right, then. I
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: don't know why you say unlistenable. Because they would just
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: be screaming at each other the whole time. I mean,
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: Charles and Shaq have a very contentious relationship anyways on TV. Yeah.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: Then you add the unpredictability of Gronk in there. Yeah.
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: And the silliness and goofiness of John Gruden. I love it.
- 1:28:30Speaker 3: Ugh.
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: It would just be too much.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: All right, Mike Tirico, John Gruden, reunite, and then you
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: add to it Rob Gronkowski.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: I'm good with that.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: On the field. I'm good with that. See, I would
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: be great with that. If you even want to throw
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Gronk in the booth, I'm good. I would be good
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: with that too. I think that would be must watch TV,
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: especially on Thanksgiving. Give them the Thanksgiving game and everybody
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: would be tuning in just to listen to them.
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: And thankful. And thankful. Why is that? Oh, cause it's Thanksgiving.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: It's Thanksgiving. And you get that broadcasting crew. Come on.
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: You weren't thankful yesterday at the end of the show,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: were you?
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: What happened? Oh. Yeah, let's just move past that. Oh,
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: come on. It was funny. Yeah, I guess. You're not
- 1:29:13Speaker 2: going to get in trouble now.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: So I picked a song yesterday. It was a particular
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: song by... Tell the whole world how I messed up.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: You missed a little particular word that was played on
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: that song. I thought it was funny. Cracked me up
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: and you were panicking over there.
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: It's okay. Things like that happen. It shouldn't make you uncomfortable.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: It shouldn't. You're not going to lose that. But that
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: also shouldn't happen. No.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: No, but it's okay. Sometimes you can't be perfect, okay?
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: And Jeremy spoke, it's the song Jeremy by, what's the
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: band called?
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: I don't even remember. I put it out of my
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: mind once that happened. Oh, you did? Oh, come on.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: It was awesome. I loved every second of it. Pearl Jam.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: Pearl Jam, that's it.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: Because I ran over there and said, you didn't play
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: that one.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: Oh, I did. Anyway, but yeah.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: So if you were listening at the end of the
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: show yesterday, you got a little surprise on the air.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: So I don't know if you've seen this or not,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: but Arizona State University hockey coach got fired.
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: Yeah, what's up with that? Greg Powers. What's going on there?
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: Well, he was placed on paid administrative leave. And this is,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: I mean, you know, the season is getting ready to
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: start for college hockey.
- 1:30:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: Because he's under investigation right now into a harsh military
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: style workout back in August. Are you ready for this?
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: Led by a former Green Beret. And what happened is
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: it left one player, which is really unfortunate. This is
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: not a laughing matter at all. One player is now
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: on life support and will never be the same again.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: What?
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: Because he had a heat stroke. And the coach said
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: literally to the other players, oh, it's just a little
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: heat stroke. I've seen it a million times. That was
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: his comment to the players. And now his own player
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: that had the little heat stroke I've seen a million
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: times is now on life support. I mean, it's really sad.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: I mean, it doesn't– I don't understand the mindset with
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: this coach. Like, let's take a bunch of guys who
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: play a sport on ice– And take them out into
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: the summer heat to do a vigorous workout. That doesn't
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: make any sense.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: No, and not only that, it was a 75-minute workout
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: in high temps. And it's led by a green beret.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: Yeah. I didn't have an issue with it initially until
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: you brought up the deploy.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and the fact the way he responded. And a
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: lot of the players went to the staff at Arizona
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: State and did not want to sign their names because
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: they were in fear of losing their scholarships, which I
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: think is even worse. If you're in fear of reporting
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: somebody for doing something as tragic as this, then there's
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: a whole other issue. And so they were able to
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: do it, and now they've got this investigation on, and it's...
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: It's really kind of sad.
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: But anyway. And it's like, what are you supposed to
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: do if you are those players? Because it's not like
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: basketball and football and baseball where every school across the
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: country has these programs. There's not all that many colleges
- 1:32:15Speaker 2: with hockey. With hockey. At least like Division I hockey.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: I mean, you've got your Louisville and Kentucky both have
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: club teams, but it's not Division I.
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: No, not at all. So you don't really have the
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: same opportunities as you would with those other schools. Vanderbilt
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: has a club team.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: I guess it's more, is it more of a sport
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: that's done in the Northeast? I mean, I know Michigan
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: has one. Does Ohio State have one?
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: I don't know, but I know like Wisconsin does. They're
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: usually pretty good every year. Minnesota does. Minnesota, yeah.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Yeah, they're all pretty big, but I know the Ivy
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: Leagues have them. Harvard has a team. The guy that
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: just joined my racing syndicate, that's Ian Moore, that plays
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: out for Anaheim.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: He played for Harvard. There are 64 men's ice hockey teams.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: That's more than I would have ever guessed.
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: Same.
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:33:07Speaker 3: Same.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Good job on looking that up so quickly. You're so
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: quick with your hands when it comes to that.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: I am. I love that. I should have been an orthodontist. Really?
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: My hands are tiny, and I'm quick with them. Yeah.
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: Call me Dr. Wong.
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: Oh, that's why you're saying Dr.
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: Hong, by the way. All right, everybody.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Tomorrow, we're going to talk about football. We'll be heavy
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: on the football because we've got a game the next day. Plus,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: we've got Big Blue Madness tomorrow night. I hope everybody's
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: prepared for that. So, have a great day. Appreciate you listening.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: We'll see you tomorrow on Just the Cats.
