Allen County Commissioners have officially sold the long-vacant land at Lima and Carroll Roads — once home to the Byron Health facility — in a unanimous vote, clearing the way for a commercial auction within three months. After demolishing the old structure and addressing asbestos concerns, they’re aiming for top dollar to benefit taxpayers. The site’s history stretches back to 1916 as the Allen County Poor House, later evolving into Irene Byron Hospital before relocating in 2020.
