- 0:00Speaker 1: It's 94.9 News and Stimulating Talk. My name is Tony D'Angelo.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I am hosting today on the Lee Elsie Show, as
- 0:09Speaker 1: our announcer Dick Nixon told you. Say his name. Say
- 0:12Speaker 1: his name. If you don't say his name, you're to blame. Welcome,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and we'll get into prayer, and we'll get into the program.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We'll get started. Heavenly Father, we come before you with
- 0:22Speaker 1: humble hearts asking for your mercy and your peace in
- 0:24Speaker 1: this uncertain hour. We lift up the leaders of our
- 0:27Speaker 1: nation and our leaders around the world. Grant them wisdom
- 0:30Speaker 1: beyond their own understanding, courage to do what is right,
- 0:33Speaker 1: and discernment that may prevent needless suffering. Guide every decision
- 0:37Speaker 1: with justice, restraint, and a desire for peace. Lord, we
- 0:41Speaker 1: pray for the brave men and women of our military
- 0:43Speaker 1: and for our police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and all first responders,
- 0:47Speaker 1: including the officers of ICE. Surround them with your protection.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Strengthen them for the difficult days ahead. Comfort their families
- 0:54Speaker 1: and bring them safely home. We pray the same prayer
- 0:57Speaker 1: for the ordinary working people out today, too. We're bringing
- 1:00Speaker 1: them home as well tonight in the comfort of their
- 1:02Speaker 1: families as well. We ask you to watch over our country,
- 1:05Speaker 1: unite us in purpose, calm our fears, and remind us
- 1:08Speaker 1: that our ultimate hope is found in you alone. May
- 1:11Speaker 1: your peace rule in our hearts, your truth guide our nation,
- 1:15Speaker 1: and your hand of protection rest upon the United States
- 1:18Speaker 1: of America. In Jesus' holy name we pray, amen. And
- 1:22Speaker 1: good morning. It's Tony D'Angelo in for Lee Elsie. And
- 1:25Speaker 1: I believe Mr. Nixon gave you a good idea of
- 1:28Speaker 1: the program happening. We've got Bob Lazeri at his usual
- 1:32Speaker 1: time of 6.50. We've got the power hour, Swick and D'Angelo,
- 1:36Speaker 1: 7 to 8. And the Honorable Judge Nazaro, who he's
- 1:40Speaker 1: just warming up in the bullpen. I have no idea
- 1:42Speaker 1: where we're going to go, but I think I have
- 1:43Speaker 1: a pretty good idea. The last half hour is just
- 1:46Speaker 1: you and me. We haven't had a lot of time
- 1:48Speaker 1: to talk, and I really do apologize for that. I
- 1:52Speaker 1: haven't even really been really good at like getting on
- 1:54Speaker 1: the phone or sending messages or things like that. But anyway,
- 1:59Speaker 1: to get into the story of the day, what has
- 2:02Speaker 1: captured my limited imagination is this Costa Diamantis thing. Of course,
- 2:08Speaker 1: it's all over the place. You know, you no doubt
- 2:11Speaker 1: know the story. This was a man who held very
- 2:14Speaker 1: high office in the state of Connecticut, was about to
- 2:18Speaker 1: be sentenced. for his crimes of 21 counts, and he
- 2:22Speaker 1: went to Greece. There's some question as to how he
- 2:26Speaker 1: got there and as far as how he was able
- 2:29Speaker 1: to do it and evade every single thing that would
- 2:31Speaker 1: have prevented him from doing that. You can let your
- 2:34Speaker 1: mind run wild on that. I'm not going to speculate
- 2:37Speaker 1: on that. I'm not going to speculate on whether he
- 2:41Speaker 1: is guilty or innocent. You know, as Captain Braddock would
- 2:45Speaker 1: say on Racquet Squad, I'll let the courts decide that,
- 2:48Speaker 1: and I'll let, if Mr. Diamantis has an appeal, the
- 2:53Speaker 1: evidence that he says he will bring, perhaps he will
- 2:56Speaker 1: have an opportunity, or at least a fairer opportunity in
- 3:00Speaker 1: his mind to bring that out. But I, me, myself,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and I, you know, you've been around me long enough,
- 3:06Speaker 1: I've been around you long enough, if you're not tired
- 3:08Speaker 1: of me yet, I always like to look at nuances.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And I always like to see what the– is reporting
- 3:19Speaker 1: because more than likely not, it's some press release they
- 3:23Speaker 1: were handed, and it ain't necessarily so. For example, you
- 3:28Speaker 1: may have read, you may have seen, you may have–
- 3:32Speaker 1: if you're listening from out of state and you're watching
- 3:34Speaker 1: from out of state, good morning as well. This is
- 3:37Speaker 1: a good story, even though it is a Connecticut story,
- 3:39Speaker 1: but it is in fact a national one. The– There
- 3:44Speaker 1: was a— when Mr. Diamantis left town, so to speak, he
- 3:49Speaker 1: wrote an email of nine pages. And it was presented
- 3:54Speaker 1: by the— as just a rambling wreck. The guy's making no sense.
- 3:59Speaker 1: He's crazy. He's split. You know, he's awful. He's terrible.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I'm not going to judge him one way or the other,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but I— Did some wrestling early on, and I got
- 4:12Speaker 1: a copy of the email, and I read it and
- 4:15Speaker 1: gave it to some of my trusted colleagues on Twitter
- 4:19Speaker 1: who have sliced it and diced it and looked at it.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And let me tell you something. This is a highly
- 4:24Speaker 1: intelligent man, and this nine-page email is anything but rambling
- 4:29Speaker 1: and incoherent. It is very well thought out, very well
- 4:34Speaker 1: said as far as the veracity of things. I'll leave
- 4:37Speaker 1: that for you to decide and me to decide. But
- 4:40Speaker 1: he opens up the email with this statement, and I've
- 4:43Speaker 1: got to read this. This is what your state-run media
- 4:45Speaker 1: will tell you is, ah, don't look at it, ah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, trust us kind of thing. In the words
- 4:50Speaker 1: of Costa Diamandis, Governor Lamont created familial ties using the
- 4:55Speaker 1: power of his office and his powerful friendship with President
- 4:58Speaker 1: Biden to create an insular system of justice. The Lamont
- 5:02Speaker 1: DOJ of Connecticut used the governor's political and legal apparatus
- 5:07Speaker 1: to insulate Governor Lamont, Annie Lamont, and the mountain of
- 5:10Speaker 1: business dealings within a singular network of business colleagues, former
- 5:15Speaker 1: business partners, and family members. The financial relationships between leaders
- 5:20Speaker 1: of the two offices created familial ties and interdependence, creating
- 5:26Speaker 1: partiality and a weaponized effort to ensure a predetermined outcome,
- 5:30Speaker 1: my loss of standing and trust in the community, ensure
- 5:34Speaker 1: my silence, and ensure my arrest and conviction, all in
- 5:38Speaker 1: an effort to protect the governor and his family from
- 5:40Speaker 1: federal investigation. I'm going to read that line again. all
- 5:44Speaker 1: in the effort to protect the governor and his family
- 5:46Speaker 1: from federal investigation. The corruption is the governor's office, its
- 5:50Speaker 1: employment of past high ranking DOJ officials married to current
- 5:54Speaker 1: high ranking DOJ officials pursuing selective investigation of members of
- 6:00Speaker 1: the governor's staff. Governor Lamont's inner circle was entirely intertwined
- 6:05Speaker 1: with the federal apparatus of the Connecticut DOJ meant to
- 6:10Speaker 1: police it. That is what you're state-run media will tell
- 6:15Speaker 1: you is rambling and incoherent. Now, you can doubt the
- 6:19Speaker 1: veracity of it. You could say this guy is right,
- 6:22Speaker 1: as Rain is doing it. But, man, oh, man, this
- 6:25Speaker 1: is not rambling. This guy is very purposed in what
- 6:28Speaker 1: he's saying. So when I look at things like this,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I say, okay, where's the truth? As I've told you
- 6:36Speaker 1: over and over, as I tell myself, my job here
- 6:39Speaker 1: and my privilege of being here is not to be partisan.
- 6:43Speaker 1: is not to say this is good and this is bad,
- 6:46Speaker 1: even though you have a very good idea, and I
- 6:48Speaker 1: have a very good idea of what I think is
- 6:51Speaker 1: good and bad, but to call the balls and strikes.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And that, okay, is there any milk in that coconut?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Let's move on. In this e-mail, the rambling e-mail that
- 7:04Speaker 1: you weren't supposed to read that was made very difficult
- 7:07Speaker 1: for you to get, as he starts off in the e-mail,
- 7:11Speaker 1: Use as you please. Disperse as you please.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Mr.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Diamantis says Ned Lamont did not like his bravado. Bravado
- 7:20Speaker 1: is a personality. Some people are brash. Other people are meek.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You know, you've been around planet Earth long enough. But
- 7:25Speaker 1: the one thing that really gripped me was this. When 2020,
- 7:29Speaker 1: he told people at the Office and Policy and Management
- 7:33Speaker 1: that a certain equity known as Semaphore was getting state work,
- 7:36Speaker 1: some of it no bid. while Annie Lamont's firm, Oak H.C.F.T.,
- 7:40Speaker 1: was invested in Semaphore. Now, you know the millions. I've
- 7:45Speaker 1: been through the millions with you before. There was more
- 7:48Speaker 1: testing money. It got into the genomic sequencing and the
- 7:53Speaker 1: DNA of children. We don't know where that went. The
- 7:56Speaker 1: legitimate media never did a thing with that. We did
- 7:59Speaker 1: on this show. We showed you the contracts. So Mr.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Diamantis said he raised that, and he said, you know,
- 8:06Speaker 1: something doesn't look right. His words, not mine. But this
- 8:10Speaker 1: is right around the time that I was raising it here.
- 8:14Speaker 1: And he claims at that point, at that juncture, the
- 8:18Speaker 1: wrath of God, so to speak, was upon him. And
- 8:23Speaker 1: this was one of those things that started, it stopped,
- 8:26Speaker 1: it started, it stopped. When Bob Stefanowski ran for governor,
- 8:30Speaker 1: he mentioned it. And then it was like everybody was
- 8:33Speaker 1: off the ball. And I'm like, Where is everybody on
- 8:36Speaker 1: this thing? Don't they see that this is really happening?
- 8:40Speaker 1: But listen, everybody in the world dropped the ball on this.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And apparently Costa had mentioned to the people there, hey,
- 8:47Speaker 1: you know, this doesn't exactly look right. Now, what happened
- 8:51Speaker 1: was at that point he claimed, again, the world had
- 8:56Speaker 1: fallen upon him. And he points to one person here
- 9:00Speaker 1: in his email, the so-called rambling email, which is anything but,
- 9:05Speaker 1: Attorney Deirdre Daley. And he points out very specifically in
- 9:09Speaker 1: his email that Attorney Daley was very closely involved with
- 9:15Speaker 1: Annie Lamont, represented her in some of her business dealings,
- 9:20Speaker 1: also was involved with the governor, Ned Lamont, in constructing
- 9:27Speaker 1: the ethics agreement. Now, let me stop right there. Whenever
- 9:32Speaker 1: the state-run, paid, driven media clowns come to you and
- 9:36Speaker 1: they say, oh, the ethics plan, stop this, net is ethical,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and they throw around this word blind trust, this thing
- 9:44Speaker 1: is not, repeat, not a blind trust. This is a
- 9:48Speaker 1: voluntary agreement, what they call in the trade aspirational. We
- 9:52Speaker 1: will do this to the best of our ability. but
- 9:55Speaker 1: don't hold us to it if we don't get it right.
- 9:57Speaker 1: A blind trust is here's every i don't see it
- 10:01Speaker 1: until i come out of office i ran blind trust
- 10:04Speaker 1: okay i ran blind trust at rogers and wells i
- 10:07Speaker 1: had nick brady's he was secretary of the treasury under
- 10:11Speaker 1: george bush the first and i mean it's like mr
- 10:14Speaker 1: brady came in and signed those papers said gee i
- 10:16Speaker 1: did well he had no idea what had happened This
- 10:19Speaker 1: agreement is not that. So if you see that in
- 10:21Speaker 1: the media, let me know. I want to total the
- 10:24Speaker 1: person that's writing that. But anyway, a little bit of
- 10:28Speaker 1: an aside. So when Costa raises this, so he says,
- 10:33Speaker 1: there's so much in this thing. He says that particularly Ms.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Daly got very weird towards him and then everybody started
- 10:41Speaker 1: to turn against him. And then you've got this thing of, well,
- 10:46Speaker 1: all of these people who are tied to the U.S.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Attorney's Office. There's marriages. There's—Ned Lamont goes out and gets
- 10:57Speaker 1: Stanley Twardy to do an investigation. Funny thing. Stanley's from Stanford.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I'm from Stanford. Stanley was in my scout troop, believe
- 11:06Speaker 1: it or not. He was my senior scout, and he
- 11:07Speaker 1: was great. His dad was a wonderful guy, believe me.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Very comforting to a 10-year-old kid in his first camp out.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I'm not going to comment on the veracity of that
- 11:17Speaker 1: or not. But Costa's saying he was rigged, he was jobbed.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I'm not going to judge that. But two things here
- 11:25Speaker 1: do make me very curious. The first thing is he
- 11:31Speaker 1: claims of this weaponization from the Bidens on down through
- 11:36Speaker 1: the U.S. Attorney's Office under Biden protecting the Lamonts. He
- 11:40Speaker 1: also claims that once he raised the magic word semaphore,
- 11:45Speaker 1: the world fell upon him. So there's a lot here.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I know there's going to be even more. But the
- 11:53Speaker 1: fact of the matter is I've only got like a
- 11:55Speaker 1: minute or so left in this opening. What I want
- 11:58Speaker 1: to encourage you to do is don't ever in this
- 12:01Speaker 1: state take anything that anybody is reporting to you, even me,
- 12:06Speaker 1: without checking it out for yourself. You know, we went
- 12:08Speaker 1: through that whole thing last week about the excuse me,
- 12:12Speaker 1: the the hospital funding. And Ned Lamont got $ 500 million
- 12:17Speaker 1: for rural. It's one big, beautiful bill. He didn't have
- 12:20Speaker 1: to do anything other than to show up with a
- 12:23Speaker 1: pulse for crying out loud. They never tell you that.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Donald Trump's the worst man on earth. But, hey, when
- 12:27Speaker 1: he hands out money, they'll take the credit for it.
- 12:30Speaker 1: It's just the way they are. But that's not the
- 12:32Speaker 1: way we are. We've got a great show coming up.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Tony D'Angelo, 94.9 News and Stimulating Talk, coming back with
- 12:39Speaker 1: the nonprofit announcements for the next three. You belong to me.

- 18:32Speaker 4: you forgot the whole thing.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Well, I'll put that in after.
- 18:34Speaker 7: No, I'm saying this line.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Okay, you say that one. Go ahead and say it.
- 18:38Speaker 24: Preston Trading Post, hard to find, impossible to forget.
- 18:43Speaker 1: What's my line?
- 18:44Speaker 25: This one.
- 18:45Speaker 16: We should just do this.
- 18:47Speaker 4: No, you do this. You do this line.
- 18:49Speaker 26: So, yes, we may be a little off the beaten path,
- 18:52Speaker 26: but that's only because the beaten path doesn't have this
- 18:56Speaker 26: much good stuff in it.
- 18:57Speaker 19: On it.
- 18:58Speaker 1: On it.

- 23:49Speaker 1: I'm not really clear if I can mention his name
- 23:51Speaker 1: during the broadcast, so I'll say Peter Familias. You know
- 23:54Speaker 1: who I mean.
- 23:55Speaker 28: And I.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I don't think I can do nine things at once,
- 23:59Speaker 1: but people said, well, that last clip that you played
- 24:04Speaker 1: of the sound, what was that? That was from the
- 24:06Speaker 1: Dirty Dozen in 1967. That's where Franco refuses to shave
- 24:11Speaker 1: in cold water. And if you watch that scene, that
- 24:14Speaker 1: is an excellent, excellent example of team building under the
- 24:20Speaker 1: worst of circumstances.
- 24:21Speaker 7: The team.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Gelled upon the worst possible thing they could and became

- 28:00Speaker 1: This one I came across on X last night. Joined
- 28:04Speaker 1: for an evening with Ryan Fazio, candidate for governor. This
- 28:08Speaker 1: is an affordability town hall for New London County, and
- 28:12Speaker 1: that is at 102 Newtown Road in Groton, and that
- 28:16Speaker 1: would be Thursday, September 24th. So a lot happening, and,
- 28:21Speaker 1: you know, this is the time of the year to
- 28:23Speaker 1: actually go through those kinds of things because, believe me,
- 28:26Speaker 1: the weather gets incredibly rotten as time goes on. Anyway,
- 28:32Speaker 1: the— well— What can I say to... Interesting ride over here, actually.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I don't understand. Somebody has to help me with this.
- 28:46Speaker 1: When you're heading down a dark road, I mean, really, again,
- 28:49Speaker 1: there is no world in Pomfort, Connecticut before 5 in
- 28:53Speaker 1: the morning, maybe before 6 in the morning as things
- 28:55Speaker 1: go on, but when you're heading down a dark road
- 28:57Speaker 1: in a 45 speed limit, and I'm going like 48, 49,
- 29:01Speaker 1: and People are doing two-car passes on double lines. Listen,
- 29:09Speaker 1: you must have angels that the rest of us do
- 29:13Speaker 1: not have. It's absolutely unbelievable. So, you know, you're getting
- 29:16Speaker 1: up early. You know, my poor spouse is up early.
- 29:19Speaker 1: The animals are roaming around. They want some food. And
- 29:23Speaker 1: this is, you know, all kind of whatever it is.
- 29:26Speaker 1: But we, you know, thank God we're here.
- 29:29Speaker 37: And I.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I hope I've piqued some curiosity, if you will, as
- 29:38Speaker 1: far as the beginning. with Mr. Diamantis' email. I think
- 29:44Speaker 1: it's widely circulated right now what, in fact, he wrote.
- 29:48Speaker 1: If you go to X, my pal Christy Talmadge has
- 29:51Speaker 1: dissected it and put it up in nine separate posts.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And It is a lot of information to consider, and
- 30:00Speaker 1: it really gives you a window of what was happening
- 30:03Speaker 1: at that time. Again, it's not my place to say,
- 30:09Speaker 1: to exonerate anybody or to put blame, but I am
- 30:13Speaker 1: going to point at things that do look, shall we say, odd,
- 30:18Speaker 1: and point them out to you. And that's, this whole
- 30:22Speaker 1: thing appeared odd. Now, I do understand that Mr. Diamandis
- 30:25Speaker 1: is freely giving interviews, which is kind of interesting to
- 30:29Speaker 1: me because usually when someone has escaped the clutches of something,
- 30:33Speaker 1: they're normally nowhere to be found, at least in my experience.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Like I know yesterday on an interview with another radio station,
- 30:41Speaker 1: he said, and I think this was referred to in
- 30:43Speaker 1: the Connecticut Mirror, you know, watch The Fugitive with Harrison Ford. Actually,
- 30:47Speaker 1: I go back to The Fugitive with David Jansen for
- 30:49Speaker 1: crying out loud. But the thing is.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That character, Dr. Richard Kimball, was not giving radio interviews
- 30:57Speaker 1: from anywhere, so I don't know what the connection was
- 31:00Speaker 1: that there, but it's kind of interesting as to where
- 31:05Speaker 1: this is. Now, one of the things he has made
- 31:07Speaker 1: reference to, which I did not get to in the opening,
- 31:11Speaker 1: he claims there is a voluminous document. This is his
- 31:15Speaker 1: claim that he has given to the Department of Justice,
- 31:18Speaker 1: and he has been asked.
- 31:19Speaker 20: As far as.
- 31:21Speaker 1: do you feel there's some milk in that coconut, so
- 31:25Speaker 1: to speak? Do you think that there's things incriminating? And
- 31:27Speaker 1: he said, I believe that there is. So where that goes,
- 31:32Speaker 1: how that goes, it's I think if you observe what's
- 31:36Speaker 1: happening and observe the actions of people that are running
- 31:39Speaker 1: around here or there, you will kind of get an
- 31:43Speaker 1: idea of what's happening. But it's and I know we'll
- 31:46Speaker 1: get into this in the power hour with Bob Swick.
- 31:49Speaker 1: It's like When are we going to have just plain old, clean, transparent, decent,
- 31:57Speaker 1: you can see what's happening, government? I can't think of
- 32:00Speaker 1: any time, at least that I have been an adult
- 32:04Speaker 1: or a young adult, that something wasn't taking place that
- 32:08Speaker 1: they didn't want you to see or you have to
- 32:10Speaker 1: sit there and jigsaw puzzle it out, which is a
- 32:12Speaker 1: lot of what I do here, frankly. You know, I'll
- 32:16Speaker 1: do things, I'll run timelines, I'll... Say, well, like, for example,
- 32:21Speaker 1: when Mr. Diamandis was complaining about Semaphore and asking those
- 32:25Speaker 1: questions at that same time frame, at that same juncture,
- 32:30Speaker 1: I was doing that here. I was doing that. That's
- 32:33Speaker 1: when my time was expanded from 10 minutes to 20 minutes,
- 32:37Speaker 1: I believe, give or take. And there were so many
- 32:41Speaker 1: unanswered questions, and I'm sure we'll get into that with
- 32:43Speaker 1: Bob Swick. There was the, for example, we just got
- 32:49Speaker 1: done with Semaphore. We start with the digital currency group.
- 32:52Speaker 1: We never, you know, this wonderful company was coming to
- 32:56Speaker 1: Stanford and do great things. And that night we figured
- 32:58Speaker 1: out that it had a very strong Lamont connection. It
- 33:01Speaker 1: was a former Oakgate CFT entity. And, of course, the
- 33:05Speaker 1: patent line was, oh, you know, we were out of that.
- 33:07Speaker 1: We had nothing to do with it. Well, you know,
- 33:09Speaker 1: you do have a.
- 33:12Speaker 1: An obligation to your investors, especially in something closely held
- 33:16Speaker 1: when these people are plunking down good money for you
- 33:18Speaker 1: to do something. It's like, well, you know, I can't
- 33:21Speaker 1: do this anymore, guys. Sorry, you're on your own. That
- 33:24Speaker 1: does not wash in reality like so many things don't
- 33:27Speaker 1: wash in reality. And it's just like, when do we
- 33:31Speaker 1: get to a point where we see things clearly? Anyway,
- 33:35Speaker 1: I think we're coming up on the break. It's Tony D'Angelo, 94.9
- 33:39Speaker 1: News and Stimulating Talk. Bob Lazeri and actually the trivia
- 33:43Speaker 1: world of sports coming right back right after this.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Traffic Alert on 94.9 News Now.
- 33:53Speaker 30: In East Lyme, the.

- 37:48Speaker 2: At this game, folks.
- 37:50Speaker 45: Boston Rustlers. That's what the name of the team in

- 37:56Speaker 45: his final game, Tony, number 511. He was 44 years
- 38:01Speaker 45: old at the time, Tony. Tony totally shot, but he
- 38:04Speaker 45: actually shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field that day.
- 38:08Speaker 45: So that was his final victory. and we know the
- 38:11Speaker 45: award in his name now tells you how good of
- 38:14Speaker 45: a pitcher he really was. Let's fast forward to the 60s, Tony, 1968.
- 38:19Speaker 45: You remember Cesar Tovar, right, Tony?
- 38:22Speaker 4: Oh, yes, very, very well.
- 38:23Speaker 45: He played all nine positions against the A's at Metropolitan Stadium.
- 38:28Speaker 45: He actually even pitched a hitless inning that day. A
- 38:32Speaker 45: la Bert Campanaris, who's another one who did that, but
- 38:34Speaker 45: that was Cesar Tovar. And the year after that, Tony,
- 38:38Speaker 45: Willie Mays in 1969, he was 38 years old, I think,
- 38:44Speaker 45: at the time. He was the second player to reach
- 38:46Speaker 45: 600 home runs. People don't realize that Ruth, and then
- 38:51Speaker 45: it was.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Mays, right, Tony, to hit And May spent two years
- 38:55Speaker 1: in the Army.
- 38:55Speaker 35: Yeah, there you go, right?
- 38:57Speaker 45: So you've got to always think about that. 1973, Tony,
- 39:00Speaker 45: speaking of the Army, Al Bumbry of the Orioles, he
- 39:03Speaker 45: had three triples in one game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 39:06Speaker 25: Wow.
- 39:06Speaker 45: A guy I always respected.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Vietnam veteran, yeah.
- 39:10Speaker 35: Right?
- 39:10Speaker 45: So that happened in 1973 on this day. And 1977, Tony,
- 39:15Speaker 45: Bert Bly Levin, who we've talked to before, he no-hit
- 39:19Speaker 45: the California Angels as the Twins won 9-0 that day.
- 39:23Speaker 45: As far as birthdays, Tony, a couple NFL birthdays. Alejandro Villanueva, Tony.
- 39:30Speaker 45: a former tackle for the Steelers who was much maligned
- 39:34Speaker 45: because he used to actually stand for the National Anthem
- 39:37Speaker 45: a few years ago when some of his teammates weren't.
- 39:40Speaker 45: He was a proud graduate of Army, and he took
- 39:45Speaker 45: a lot of heat for that. But he was a
- 39:46Speaker 45: two-time Pro Bowler. for the Steelers. He celebrates a birthday today.
- 39:50Speaker 45: And another name you'll recognize, Tony, Harold Carmichael. Used to
- 39:55Speaker 45: play for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, yeah.
- 39:59Speaker 45: And he is a Hall of Famer now. I mean,
- 40:03Speaker 45: almost 9,000 yards receiving in his career. But Harold Carmichael
- 40:07Speaker 45: celebrates today. Baseball, Tony, a couple born on this day, 1920,
- 40:13Speaker 45: Bob Lemon. Tony, you remember him as a manager?
- 40:16Speaker 25: Oh, yeah.
- 40:16Speaker 1: He's a very good manager.
- 40:18Speaker 45: But people don't forget. People will forget how good of
- 40:22Speaker 45: a pitcher he was, Tony, I guess because he pitched
- 40:24Speaker 45: with Feller and Mike Garcia and those guys. But he
- 40:28Speaker 45: had six 20-game win seasons, Tony. He was a great pitcher.
- 40:32Speaker 45: But he was born on this day in 1920. In 1927, Tony,
- 40:34Speaker 45: you're going to laugh. Tommy Lasorda was born on this day.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Oh, God bless him.
- 40:39Speaker 45: Tony and I had a chance to talk to Tommy, oh,
- 40:42Speaker 45: I don't know, 12 years ago, Tony. You know, at
- 40:44Speaker 45: the time, he was still bleeding Dodger blue. Tony was funny, right?
- 40:48Speaker 45: I mean, an incredible guy.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I'm sure if you went to his grave today, you'd
- 40:52Speaker 1: see the Dodger schedule and the playoff schedule. And he
- 40:56Speaker 1: always said to Mr. O'Malley, I will work for the
- 40:58Speaker 1: Dodgers even when I'm no longer here.
- 41:00Speaker 45: He was a character, and that was tremendous. And you
- 41:04Speaker 45: remember this name, Tony. You talked about him all the
- 41:06Speaker 45: time to me, Ken Aspromonte. He actually is 95 years
- 41:11Speaker 45: old today, Tony.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Dear, and I think Bob is still with us, too.
- 41:14Speaker 9: Wow.
- 41:16Speaker 45: Lafayette High School in Brooklyn.
- 41:17Speaker 1: That's right. That's right.
- 41:19Speaker 45: But Ken, you know, he didn't play too long. I
- 41:21Speaker 45: think a seven-year career, Tony, came up with the Red Sox.
- 41:25Speaker 45: But another, here's another name, Tony, Larry Durker. 80 years
- 41:30Speaker 45: old today.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Fine pitcher. Fine pitcher.
- 41:32Speaker 45: People don't realize how good he was, too. I mean,
- 41:34Speaker 45: people remember him as a manager, but an incredible pitcher.
- 41:38Speaker 45: 20-game winner back in the day with Houston. Pitching in
- 41:41Speaker 45: the Astrodome, right, Tony?
- 41:43Speaker 9: Which probably helped him.
- 41:45Speaker 45: Tony, the flapper. Jeffrey Leonard.
- 41:48Speaker 1: I know you like this guy.
- 41:51Speaker 45: 71 years old, the flapper when he hit a home run, right?
- 41:54Speaker 1: Penitentiary face. Yes, I do remember.
- 41:56Speaker 45: That's what they called him, and maybe the flapper was
- 41:59Speaker 45: a better nickname. Wally Backman, Tony, the scrappy second baseman
- 42:04Speaker 45: for the Mets. So he's 67 today. And Vince Coleman, Tony,
- 42:09Speaker 45: 65 years old. You know Vince Coleman, Tony, his first
- 42:12Speaker 45: three years with the Cardinals, he stole 100 bases each year.
- 42:16Speaker 25: Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 45: Amazing you know total singles hitter like backman he had
- 42:20Speaker 45: 28 home runs in 13 years these guys did not
- 42:22Speaker 45: hit home runs he had some triples but it was
- 42:24Speaker 45: all singles but he could steal bases and uh that's
- 42:28Speaker 45: vince coleman born on this day in 1961.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Tony well the fans have spoken and they've given me
- 42:34Speaker 1: a trivia question for you in in between all the
- 42:39Speaker 1: uh the hate mail and everything else i get um
- 42:43Speaker 1: And I'm not supposed to give you the answer. Now,
- 42:45Speaker 1: what professional sports team drafted two football Hall of Famers
- 42:49Speaker 1: in one year? The year is 1979. Can you name
- 42:52Speaker 1: the team, and can you name the players?
- 42:54Speaker 9: Oh, 79.
- 42:55Speaker 45: Two NFL players.
- 43:00Speaker 9: Yes.
- 43:01Speaker 45: Oh, my goodness.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Yes, they both played the same position, too. They were quarterbacks.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Quarterback.
- 43:06Speaker 45: I was going to say quarterback. Was it the Yankees? And, oh,
- 43:14Speaker 45: I'm thinking John Elway. I'm thinking a few other guys
- 43:18Speaker 45: the Yankees had that didn't pan out, Tony. I am
- 43:21Speaker 45: stumped at this time.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Okay, this is the Kansas City Royals, and they drafted
- 43:25Speaker 1: Dan Marino and John Elway in the same draft class.
- 43:28Speaker 45: Oh, see, I knew Elway was a great athlete, Tony. Marino,
- 43:33Speaker 45: obviously another great athlete, but a Pittsburgh guy, right? I mean,
- 43:37Speaker 45: so that is a good question. That's interesting.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Now, you know, this got me thinking, and I started
- 43:44Speaker 1: to do some reading. Remember the Royals Baseball Academy? You know, Mr.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Kaufman had a thought. He was the owner. He said,
- 43:52Speaker 1: if I could get athletes of different sports, people that
- 43:56Speaker 1: do different things, that have athletic ability, I can train
- 44:00Speaker 1: them to be Major League Ball players. And this was,
- 44:05Speaker 1: I don't know if you want to call it successful,
- 44:07Speaker 1: I don't know if you want to call it a failure,
- 44:09Speaker 1: but He took 14 people, or 14 people reached the
- 44:14Speaker 1: major leagues. Most notably was Frank White, who apparently was
- 44:17Speaker 1: a tennis player.
- 44:19Speaker 45: Well, Frank White, you're right, Tony. And this, again, that
- 44:21Speaker 45: was in the early 70s, if I recall. And Frank White,
- 44:25Speaker 45: I think he played 18 years with the Royals.
- 44:28Speaker 15: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:28Speaker 45: I mean, that's incredible.
- 44:29Speaker 20: Fine player.
- 44:30Speaker 45: He won a ton of gold gloves, Tony. So whatever
- 44:33Speaker 45: they were doing was working at the time, obviously. You know,
- 44:36Speaker 45: you remember, and that... paired with the Charlie Lau hitting style, right?
- 44:41Speaker 45: Tony Brett and a bunch of others. I mean, obviously
- 44:44Speaker 45: they were doing good things in the early 70s, man.
- 44:47Speaker 45: Those were the great days to watch the Royals.
- 44:49Speaker 1: And they were, you know, that was a team that
- 44:52Speaker 1: started unlike a lot of expansion teams. It's like, we're
- 44:56Speaker 1: going to do our best. We're going to start to build.
- 44:58Speaker 1: It's going to take us a few years, but We're
- 45:00Speaker 1: going to build a winner here. We're going to build
- 45:03Speaker 1: a team that people want. And, you know, they did it.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I mean, they had scrappy players. They had Lou Piniella.
- 45:09Speaker 1: They had Freddie Patek. They had Cookie Rojas. Remember Jim
- 45:13Speaker 1: Ricker telling us that they were great on double plays.
- 45:18Speaker 1: It was like if there was a tough play or
- 45:20Speaker 1: something and everybody would run to the edge of the
- 45:22Speaker 1: dugout and say, okay, how are they going to do
- 45:24Speaker 1: it this time? I mean, those are the days of
- 45:28Speaker 1: baseball that I miss.
- 45:30Speaker 45: Yeah, Tony, they were a chemistry-built team. It was not
- 45:34Speaker 45: a super– you remember Amos Otis and Al Cowan? There
- 45:37Speaker 45: was guys like that that, you know, if you look
- 45:39Speaker 45: at their numbers, they're not going to bowl you over. But, man,
- 45:42Speaker 45: they all played well together, and they did fundamentally– they
- 45:46Speaker 45: definitely were fundamentally sound with all those Royal teams.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and the playoff games against the Yankees, believe it
- 45:55Speaker 1: or not, were out of time. Where do the fans
- 45:57Speaker 1: reach you?
- 45:58Speaker 45: Go to X, Tony. They'll be able to search my name,
- 46:02Speaker 45: and they'll see the LaSorda interview posted this morning. So
- 46:05Speaker 45: if you remember Tommy, you'll get a bunch of laughs
- 46:08Speaker 45: if you watch that.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Yeah, watch that after 9, too.
- 46:10Speaker 20: Okay, Bob.
- 46:11Speaker 1: There you go. Thanks very much. Thanks for being here.

- 53:54Speaker 1: joined by my pal in what I've termed the power hour.
- 53:58Speaker 1: This is really something everybody's looking forward to every week,
- 54:01Speaker 1: me especially. And this is the man I like to
- 54:05Speaker 1: call the godfather. He started this long before any of
- 54:08Speaker 1: us were walking around in knee pants as far as
- 54:11Speaker 1: looking at the sad fiscal state of the state of Connecticut.
- 54:15Speaker 1: And from there, it got a whole lot worse. It's
- 54:17Speaker 1: my pal, Bob Swick. Bob, how are you, pal? We
- 54:24Speaker 1: are waiting. Bob, how are you?
- 54:27Speaker 9: I'm good. Thanks for having me on this morning.
- 54:29Speaker 1: My pleasure. And you may begin wherever you wish.
- 54:33Speaker 9: We have a problem in Connecticut. It's a problem of trust.
- 54:37Speaker 9: It's a problem of lies. It's a problem of deception.
- 54:42Speaker 9: It's a problem of overspending. There's so many problems that
- 54:45Speaker 9: Connecticut has. I just find it so ironic that during
- 54:50Speaker 9: an election year, we're now faced with a situation where
- 54:57Speaker 9: a Connecticut employee, state employee, was convicted of different charges
- 55:04Speaker 9: of bribery, so on and so forth. We pretty much
- 55:06Speaker 9: know the the problems that Demathis has created for himself
- 55:12Speaker 9: to a certain degree. But I'm listening to your opening
- 55:18Speaker 9: this morning, and I'm agreeing with everything you're saying, because
- 55:21Speaker 9: after I read his quote-unquote rambling 10-page dissertation there, I'm
- 55:29Speaker 9: saying to myself, a lot of this is kind of
- 55:32Speaker 9: too precise to make it rambling.
- 55:35Speaker 30: That's what I thought.
- 55:37Speaker 9: And a lot of it is stuff that you, Tony,
- 55:40Speaker 9: have talked about many, many times before, seen before being
- 55:44Speaker 9: number one, that no one in the state covered. And
- 55:49Speaker 9: I've been covering over the years all the different subcategories
- 55:53Speaker 9: of all the different companies that somehow, somewhere, are tied
- 55:58Speaker 9: to the Lamont hedge fund. So we first have to
- 56:02Speaker 9: start off with saying, or first start off by looking at,
- 56:07Speaker 9: Who's telling the truth? And I hope he's enjoying himself
- 56:13Speaker 9: in Greece, because there's a lot of beautiful places in Greece,
- 56:15Speaker 9: and there's a lot of good Greek wine there at
- 56:18Speaker 9: the same time. So I also find it very, very
- 56:22Speaker 9: interesting that he's now doing the media tour, trying to
- 56:27Speaker 9: build up public sentiment against the Lamont regime and against
- 56:33Speaker 9: what he feels are unfounded charges against them. But I
- 56:38Speaker 9: find it hard to believe that if you have to
- 56:40Speaker 9: drop money off in somebody's bathroom for consulting fees, which
- 56:45Speaker 9: should have been, you know, which are, you know, technically,
- 56:48Speaker 9: in my opinion, taxable, so on and so forth, you
- 56:51Speaker 9: have to be paid cash by it. That kind of
- 56:54Speaker 9: raises a red flag at the same time. So not
- 56:56Speaker 9: to be rambling here, I want to start off by saying,
- 57:00Speaker 9: how much did he actually know and how much did
- 57:03Speaker 9: the Lamont administration shut him down to when things started
- 57:08Speaker 9: getting very, very hot and ended up with all the charges,
- 57:12Speaker 9: so on and so forth, is he truly the fall
- 57:15Speaker 9: guy for this whole debacle of the Lamont construction contracts,
- 57:21Speaker 9: the constant consulting firms, so on and so forth? So, again,
- 57:27Speaker 9: you really pinpointed it reading that first page of that
- 57:31Speaker 9: e-mail article. Because it really summarizes a lot of the
- 57:35Speaker 9: issues you've been talking about over the years. And I've
- 57:38Speaker 9: touched base on it numerous times also.
- 57:42Speaker 1: So many things go through my head when we started
- 57:46Speaker 1: on this. And, you know, let's go back to COVID-19.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Of course, in today's world, we're supposed to forget all
- 57:54Speaker 1: of this ever existed. And it was a question of
- 57:59Speaker 1: who do you trust? I mean, I think our instinct
- 58:03Speaker 1: at least pre-2020 was that well if our if if
- 58:06Speaker 1: democrats and republicans are saying the same thing it's probably
- 58:11Speaker 1: true and then it was and and i had my
- 58:15Speaker 1: doubts as this was going on and i was maybe
- 58:17Speaker 1: like the first i was not a covid denier i
- 58:20Speaker 1: had the virus three times but it was a virus
- 58:23Speaker 1: basically and did not get vaccinated thank god and i
- 58:30Speaker 1: um And believe me, my sense of smell is better
- 58:32Speaker 1: than ever. Ask my wife when dinner happens. But it
- 58:37Speaker 1: was this thing of, okay, I kind of got my
- 58:39Speaker 1: doubts here, Bob, about Lamont. He doesn't really look convincing.
- 58:44Speaker 1: He looks like he's propped. He's like overly authoritarian. He
- 58:50Speaker 1: would do these interviews with Neil Cavuto on Fox at night,
- 58:53Speaker 1: and he'd be either standing in front of a slide
- 58:56Speaker 1: or whatever and trying to rechannel Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The
- 59:01Speaker 1: Creeping Socialist. And it was like, something's just not hitting
- 59:06Speaker 1: me here. And then we find out later that that
- 59:08Speaker 1: whole presentation was... was not him. It was Boston Consulting.
- 59:13Speaker 1: It was McKenzie. He does not have that kind of.
- 59:16Speaker 2: You know, shape.
- 59:17Speaker 9: And I know you remember, I mean, the early days
- 59:19Speaker 9: of COVID, you and I talked at once at what
- 59:22Speaker 9: we thought was, again, we were not COVID-19 deniers, but
- 59:26Speaker 9: we were deniers of the draconian idea situation that we
- 59:32Speaker 9: were all placed in. And because of that, I feel
- 59:35Speaker 9: very strongly that he saw his opening and he said, hey,
- 59:40Speaker 9: I'm free and clear now from now on. I can
- 59:42Speaker 9: do anything I want now that I've gotten and taken
- 59:45Speaker 9: HEMA IV by its roots. Hey, the sky's the limit.
- 59:49Speaker 9: And how could that be applicable to every other aspect
- 59:52Speaker 9: of state government, including building construction contracts by a former...
- 59:59Speaker 9: a Democrat state representative whose payoff is basically a state job,
- 1:00:04Speaker 9: a high-paying state job, and at the same time giving
- 1:00:07Speaker 9: him that, make him the deputy budget chief at the
- 1:00:10Speaker 9: same time, which to me is astounding that you would
- 1:00:14Speaker 9: appoint someone for those two positions of that much power
- 1:00:19Speaker 9: and of that much complexity.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: It is.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: And I'll tell you, if you reach back, the thing
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: that got me like, okay, my suspicions here are confirmed, was, quote, unquote,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: the COVID baby. It was like the baby died of COVID.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: And as time went on, that was Hartford Hospital. We
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: found out that that was a pure embellishment on his part.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: The baby did not die of COVID. So, of course,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: anybody with a reasonable mind would sit there and say, okay,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: What else is this SOB lying to us about, considering
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: he's lying about this? And, Bob, you know, that was
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: the night, the day, the week that the legislature as
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: a whole should have thrown him out, basically. It's like,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: how can you trust this man when he's doing this crap?
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Simple as that and.
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: Just as difficult.
- 1:01:15Speaker 9: And how do you trust someone who basically continues the
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: state of emergency in the state of Connecticut? just to
- 1:01:22Speaker 9: get funding from the federal government, just to do what with?
- 1:01:27Speaker 9: Channel it to his hedge fund through various economic programs,
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: economic development, yada, yada, yada. You know, it's very suspicious.
- 1:01:37Speaker 9: And I think it's all coming to a head with
- 1:01:40Speaker 9: this situation right now. I mean, we could talk all
- 1:01:43Speaker 9: day long about, you know, it was wrong with what
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: he did, you know, going to Greece, so on and
- 1:01:48Speaker 9: so forth. But who dropped the ball And in my opinion,
- 1:01:53Speaker 9: our state attorney general, our anti-Trump town regime, dropped the
- 1:02:00Speaker 9: ball not being aware he went to get his Greece
- 1:02:03Speaker 9: passport and not aware what he put up for his
- 1:02:08Speaker 9: house as far as collaterals concerned for his bond was
- 1:02:12Speaker 9: very much in debt. I don't even know how he
- 1:02:15Speaker 9: was able to raise the $ 50, 000 off of it, so
- 1:02:19Speaker 9: on and so forth. So there's a lot of So
- 1:02:22Speaker 9: misconnections here, to me, there was a lot of dropping
- 1:02:25Speaker 9: the ball for the sake of covering for the big
- 1:02:28Speaker 9: man and his family's hedge fund.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Well, you know, and the thing which I didn't get
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: to in the open is the day when Costa walks in,
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: I'm sure this didn't happen in a day, but if
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: you picture this in terms of you're watching a movie
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: somewhere in the back row with some popcorn, And he
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: starts to raise questions about Semo IV. Now, let's just assume, arguendo,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: that he is the honest man he says he is.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I'm not going to stand in judgment of him. And
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: he says, you know, something's rotten in Denmark. You've got
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: to do something here. And at that point, he says
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: the wrath of God, so to speak, turns on him,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: particularly Deirdre Daly. who has a very curious role in
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: this thing, according to his email, which, and I believe
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: he's speaking in fact that she is counsel for Anne Lamont.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: She is also, she was involved in drafting the ethics agreement,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: which is that sham you can pick up on your,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: whatever computer you happen to be standing in front of.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: It's a masterwork. What it does is that It says, okay, well,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: there's only these partnerships here, and if they do this
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: recusal list, everything's fine, and they're going to submit the
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: recusal list. I think we've seen one recusal list of
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: companies that you can't deal with. Completely left out any
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: new formations after that, because that agreement was, you know,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: check it out for yourself. Go to your computer. That
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: was done in May of 2019. The first large Oak
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: HCFT Cayman Islands partnership, or shall I qualify that, tax-free
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: secret Cayman Islands partnership, was three months later. And this
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: wasn't the thing, as I've said to our paterfamilias for years.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: It's like, oh, yeah, let's put on a show. This
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: is done. Like, you just don't, I mean, you've got
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: to get the authorities there on board. You've got to
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: pass due diligence, and, and, and, and, and. And I'm like,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: So what else works behind these questions, and why did
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: all these people who he.
- 1:04:47Speaker 9: Says— What were the promises given to him for doing it?
- 1:04:52Speaker 9: Was the promise the deputy budget sheet so he could
- 1:04:54Speaker 9: increase his pension, increase his yearly salary, so on and
- 1:04:58Speaker 9: so forth? Or all these cash payments that he supposedly
- 1:05:01Speaker 9: got were funneled to other people in government or to
- 1:05:05Speaker 9: the Lamont regime— as, you know, trying to keep everybody
- 1:05:10Speaker 9: in line and so on and so forth. I really
- 1:05:13Speaker 9: think this is a lot more complex than what just occurred,
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: in my opinion. And again, I'm not a legal expert
- 1:05:20Speaker 9: in any way, shape, or form. I, you know, I'm
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: just picking up information as I see, and it's all
- 1:05:26Speaker 9: public information.
- 1:05:27Speaker 35: That we're reading.
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: It's all public information we're seeing. I agree with you,
- 1:05:30Speaker 9: the state-run media is avoiding everything completely. Oh, don't read
- 1:05:34Speaker 9: the email.
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: There's nothing there.
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: There's so much there, it's not even funny. And why
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: wasn't this talked about? Because of what? A plea agreement
- 1:05:42Speaker 9: that went bad? Maybe he was going to be given
- 1:05:45Speaker 9: probation or whatever and it fell through? Did somebody miscommunicate
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: what was going on? So on and so forth. At
- 1:05:52Speaker 9: one point, I'd like to really make for an economics
- 1:05:56Speaker 9: point of view is, How much does the state of
- 1:05:58Speaker 9: Connecticut overpay for construction purposes, school construction purposes, consulting firms,
- 1:06:05Speaker 9: so on and so forth? You know, from the simple
- 1:06:08Speaker 9: plumber and electrician working on a job, are all these
- 1:06:11Speaker 9: bribes that were supposedly taking place, are they included in
- 1:06:15Speaker 9: the final price? So can I get taxpayers to pay
- 1:06:18Speaker 9: two or three or four times more than they should
- 1:06:20Speaker 9: on these projects? Who's auditing these projects? Where are the audits?
- 1:06:24Speaker 9: Why aren't the audits published? And at the same time,
- 1:06:27Speaker 9: where are Ned Lamont's income tax statements? It's an election year.
- 1:06:33Speaker 9: It would behoove, you know, people running for office saying, hey, Ned,
- 1:06:38Speaker 9: we got to put up our income tax statements. Where's yours?
- 1:06:42Speaker 9: Why is yours never published? Why is it so secret?
- 1:06:45Speaker 9: What's going on?
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Well, you know, and how could I put it? If
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: you and this is the thing, when you see disclosures. Uh,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: typically what you see is you see when you see
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: them in his case, he's never shown anything. One year
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: he came out, I believe that was probably, let me see.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: That was the, that was four years ago. And he said, Oh,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I made 50 something million. The tax return.
- 1:07:13Speaker 35: Yeah.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: It was shown to a few people in the room,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: his crony people who probably knew as much about what
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: all that meant. If it was anything at all is,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: you know, I might have bet, uh, building a rocket ship.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: And it was never published. It was never disclosed. It
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: was never. And the thing is, when politicians pull this trick,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: when they give you a disclosure, they show you page
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: one and page two of the 1040. What a good
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: boy am I? What I want to see is the
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: bottom of the schedule B, because that is the place
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: where you say, do you have any foreign bank accounts? Humana, Humana, Humana. Yes,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: I do. And where are the foreign bank accounts or
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: the relationships? And all the software has a codex where
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: you can put in Denmark, Portugal. I've got one young
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: lady client who's Ecuadorian. She's got accounts there. I want
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: to see the bottom of that schedule be, because if
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: it says there, you know, Cayman Islands, I mean, Cayman
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Islands ain't no secret. I mean, if ever I would
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: talk with Mr. Diamandis, I would ask him, you know,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: based upon this whole weirdness that you were perceiving with Ms. Daly,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: was this.
- 1:08:31Speaker 9: And what's interesting about this whole situation, too, going back
- 1:08:35Speaker 9: to the income tax statements, why is this not a
- 1:08:38Speaker 9: campaign issue this year?
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: What is going on?
- 1:08:41Speaker 9: Why is the media so, you know, fearful of Ned
- 1:08:47Speaker 9: Lamont and what he has done and what he's doing
- 1:08:50Speaker 9: when something as simple as an income tax statement, which
- 1:08:53Speaker 9: should be published every year, he is the governor, he
- 1:08:56Speaker 9: does have control over basically $ 28 billion of the state's money,
- 1:09:01Speaker 9: why is it such a secret? What is he hiding?
- 1:09:03Speaker 9: And again, you cannot think of anything else but this
- 1:09:06Speaker 9: man is hiding something somewhere that is not going to be,
- 1:09:12Speaker 9: according to law, according to his nondisclosure agreement, so on
- 1:09:16Speaker 9: and so forth, There's something there that is really bad,
- 1:09:20Speaker 9: and it really needs to be investigated rather quickly, or
- 1:09:23Speaker 9: you're going to have another four-year term of him and
- 1:09:27Speaker 9: his basically using the state.
- 1:09:29Speaker 35: As his piggy bank.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Well, several of my friends were asking me about– and
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: this might be a question for the judge if we
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: head down this road– Criminal limitations statutes, for example, like
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: I have enough problems with the ones in the Internal
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Revenue Code. In general, three years, 25 percent or more
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: of income is six years, and fraud is forever, and, and, and, and, and.
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: I did a little bit of reading on that, and
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: basically if— and people who deal in this have told me
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: this through the years— Um, the general criminal statutes, I
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: think I'm not an expert, please don't quote me five years,
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: six years or something. These, you know, if, if there
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: were crimes, the crimes are starting to get stale. But
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: if there's a continuation of something like you started something
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: and then you came back and you did it again
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: as some form of what you were doing, that keeps
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: the thing alive. That all said, and I think to
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: your point of, you know, this better be done quickly.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: If what Mr. Diamantis is saying is true, you know, again,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: I've been here all morning. I'm saying I'm not going
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: to say who's telling the truth or not. Let that
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: be between the parties and God. But he said that
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: the Biden gang, in conjunction with Ned, circled the wagons
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: against him. They might have knocked some of these things
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: out of the box. But to your point, Bob Swick,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: it's like, don't stand there and wait for this to go.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: Damn it, do something.
- 1:11:07Speaker 9: Exactly. I think everybody wants some conclusion to this. They
- 1:11:11Speaker 9: really want to find out the real story. And if
- 1:11:14Speaker 9: it's going to be hushed up, you know, it's going
- 1:11:17Speaker 9: to be hushed up. And, you know, again, I have
- 1:11:19Speaker 9: a very strong suspicion. He's hidden somewhere in Greece, and
- 1:11:23Speaker 9: he's not going anywhere. And, okay, so how did what
- 1:11:27Speaker 9: got resolved from this whole.
- 1:11:31Speaker 9: Court trials, so on and so forth. What really got resolved? Nothing.
- 1:11:35Speaker 9: So it's just another example that the Lamont administration could
- 1:11:40Speaker 9: do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want,
- 1:11:43Speaker 9: at any cost, and they get away with it. And
- 1:11:45Speaker 9: I think that's really unfair to the Connecticut taxpayer, who's, again,
- 1:11:50Speaker 9: slammed every which way, and now they're slammed by what
- 1:11:55Speaker 9: many feel is a corrupt governor because he just... won't
- 1:11:58Speaker 9: talk about what's going on in all his different mazes
- 1:12:02Speaker 9: of financial connections in the state of Connecticut. You know,
- 1:12:06Speaker 9: and then we start with FEMA 4, and we work
- 1:12:09Speaker 9: our way down the list. You know, I publish that
- 1:12:11Speaker 9: list in the blog literally once a month. So maybe
- 1:12:16Speaker 9: someone could actually say, or question them and say, well,
- 1:12:18Speaker 9: what's going on here? Where is this money? Why are
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: you doing this? Why are you doing this?
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: And this is rambling. This is hearsay, and there's nothing
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: to see here, folks. Yeah, for sure. Anyway, I think
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: we're coming up on a break. It's Tony D'Angelo, 94.9
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: News and Stimulating Talk. In for Lee Elsey. We will
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: be back with Bob Swick, second half of the Power Hour.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: If you have a question, you can certainly call. But
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: more effectively, I think Lee Elsey at— WeLCRadio at gmail.com.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: You guys know the address, and that'll be handed to
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: me back after this.
- 1:12:59Speaker 34: Traffic Alert on 94.9 News Now.
- 1:13:05Speaker 6: In East Line, the exit 74 on-ramp from Route 161
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: to I-95 northbound is closed.
- 1:13:13Speaker 53: Heading over the Gold Star Bridge, slow traffic I-95 northbound
- 1:13:18Speaker 53: in New London. Route 12 is stop-and-go in both directions
- 1:13:23Speaker 53: in Groton County. Route 32 slows southbound at Connecticut College.
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: No delays on I-395. I'm Eddie Schaefer, Time Saver Traffic.
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: September is here.
- 1:13:35Speaker 8: And Connecticut's number one fastest growing Mazda dealer is shifting
- 1:13:38Speaker 8: into high gear.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: At Whaling City Mazda, we want inventory.
- 1:13:41Speaker 35: And we want your vehicle.
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: Cars, trucks, SUVs. All makes and models. Have a lease?
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: We want it.
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: Still financing?

- 1:17:43Speaker 23: growing conversation around the threat AI could pose without regulations,
- 1:17:48Speaker 23: some Democrats, including Senator Bernie Sanders, are calling for a

- 1:20:42Speaker 11: And we're brought to you by Charter Oak Federal Credit Union,
- 1:20:45Speaker 11: where members bank better.
- 1:20:47Speaker 20: So admit it if you're a New York Giants fan.
- 1:20:49Speaker 11: The last week of your life has been the best
- 1:20:52Speaker 11: week you've had in probably 10 years. You came into
- 1:20:55Speaker 11: last night's game versus the Rams, riding high off a
- 1:20:58Speaker 11: week one win over the Cowboys. You're super psyched about
- 1:21:01Speaker 11: your quarterback, your defense, and your new head coach. And
- 1:21:05Speaker 11: then last night, a little bit before 8.30, your entire
- 1:21:07Speaker 11: world was turned upside down.
- 1:21:09Speaker 20: Jackson Dart got hit and his knee bent.
- 1:21:12Speaker 7: Like a pretzel.
- 1:21:13Speaker 11: The same thing happened to Malik Napier's elbow. What could
- 1:21:16Speaker 11: go wrong for the Giants did? And to add insult
- 1:21:19Speaker 11: to injury, Matt Stafford threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns.
- 1:21:22Speaker 11: The Rams' defense finally started to look like the vicious
- 1:21:25Speaker 11: unit they're supposed to be.
- 1:21:26Speaker 20: And boom, just like that.
- 1:21:29Speaker 11: Their Hollywood start to a season turned into a horror story.
- 1:21:32Speaker 20: Boy, what a difference a week makes, Giant fans, huh?
- 1:21:35Speaker 20: With more than just a score, I'm Fish on Sports.
- 1:21:41Speaker 36: Good morning, I'm Sean Murphy.
- 1:21:42Speaker 17: Cloudy skies today with a high around 66. Waterford police
- 1:21:46Speaker 17: are investigating a Monday night armed robbery at Best Way
- 1:21:50Speaker 17: Mobile on Boston Post Road. Police said a masked man
- 1:21:54Speaker 17: displayed a knife before fleeing on foot toward New London.
- 1:21:58Speaker 17: Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire inside a home at
- 1:22:02Speaker 17: Outback Stables in Ledgerd Monday evening. All residents and animals
- 1:22:07Speaker 17: were safe and the Red Cross was called to assist.
- 1:22:11Speaker 17: New London hired a $ 10, 000 consultant to help relocate its
- 1:22:15Speaker 17: municipal fuel station from beneath the Gold Star Memorial Bridge
- 1:22:20Speaker 17: to Fort Trumbull.
- 1:22:21Speaker 36: The state requires the move.
- 1:22:23Speaker 17: Before reviewing the city's lease with relocation costs estimated between $ 250, 000
- 1:22:28Speaker 17: to $ 500, 000. The Coast Guard Academy will open a new
- 1:22:34Speaker 17: AI center this fall to rapidly develop technology for maritime
- 1:22:38Speaker 17: security and operations. The center aims to produce working software
- 1:22:43Speaker 17: within six months for tasks such as buoy placement, Cutter
- 1:22:47Speaker 17: scheduling and border enforcement. Rhode Island will distribute nearly $ 15
- 1:22:53Speaker 17: million in federal aid to farmers who suffered at least $ 2, 500
- 1:22:58Speaker 17: in weather-related losses during 2023 or 2024. Applications are expected
- 1:23:05Speaker 17: to open in early October. I'm Sean Murphy. When news breaks,
- 1:23:10Speaker 17: we break in.
- 1:23:11Speaker 57: Tuesday night. Truth comes through with a knowing smile. Behind
- 1:23:42Speaker 57: the mic, Tony D'Angelo.
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: Bob Swift beside him, sharp and mellow.
- 1:23:48Speaker 28: They follow every paper trail. Ask the hard questions.
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: Lift the veil.
- 1:23:55Speaker 57: Connecticut dealings, deals gone strange.
- 1:23:58Speaker 28: They put the facts where none can change.
- 1:24:02Speaker 40: When the answers matter, when the stakes are high, they
- 1:24:05Speaker 40: bring the questions.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: Out into the light.
- 1:24:09Speaker 57: No smoke, no spin, no passing blame.
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: Every Tuesday, remember the name.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: And it's Tony D'Angelo back on the Power Hour with
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Bob Swick. You know, it's hysterical. Every week I hand
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: in my music list to the producer and something else
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: comes out. It all depends if the producer is sober
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: or drinking. I just take what comes. Anyway, we're back
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: with Bob Swick. Bob, you got my head spinning about this.
- 1:24:39Speaker 9: Well, I try to continue what we're talking about and
- 1:24:43Speaker 9: try to understand what's going on. The other part I'd
- 1:24:45Speaker 9: like to talk about briefly is His pension, he has
- 1:24:49Speaker 9: a state pension, and it just took him leaving the
- 1:24:54Speaker 9: country for apparently the pension to get suspended. Why does
- 1:25:00Speaker 9: it take this long? I mean, again, if we're going
- 1:25:03Speaker 9: by what the court is saying and he is convicted,
- 1:25:07Speaker 9: why do convicted former state employees still get their pension? Now,
- 1:25:11Speaker 9: apparently they don't. I did some research on this. And
- 1:25:15Speaker 9: to me, it's every which one. And it really doesn't
- 1:25:19Speaker 9: make a lot of sense as to not having really
- 1:25:22Speaker 9: something that is, you know, set in stone that a
- 1:25:26Speaker 9: person is convicted of a crime or whatever it may be,
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: they do not get their pension.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: And somehow he's getting his.
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 1:25:36Speaker 58: Hmm.
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: Interesting.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Interesting. And I– and it's this whole– I mean, what
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: you would expect from our present comptroller of rushing to
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: close the barn door after the prize stallions have left, saying, well,
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: I'm going to shut this down and isn't this a
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: wonderful act of fiduciary responsibility? But to your point, it's
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: like who let him continue to do that in the
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: first place? And obviously he's got a very strong Greek connection.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: He's a dual citizen.
- 1:26:11Speaker 9: Right, exactly. And again, that's something that really needs to
- 1:26:14Speaker 9: be addressed from this whole episode also. I mean, where
- 1:26:18Speaker 9: is the legislature standing on this? Why are taxpayers being
- 1:26:22Speaker 9: put through this for something that is illegal? If you
- 1:26:26Speaker 9: and I do something illegal, we're prosecuted to the full
- 1:26:29Speaker 9: extent of law. Whatever financial situations we are in, we
- 1:26:33Speaker 9: must abide by them, so on and so forth. In
- 1:26:36Speaker 9: his case, he's special because he's a state employee. So, okay,
- 1:26:40Speaker 9: we'll turn the turned the glass being half empty now, okay,
- 1:26:45Speaker 9: did he do it because he was so far in
- 1:26:47Speaker 9: debt that he took all this cash and apparently was
- 1:26:50Speaker 9: either overspending his money and or had too much debt
- 1:26:53Speaker 9: and was trying to pay it off, so on and
- 1:26:55Speaker 9: so forth. And again, if you looked at some of
- 1:26:56Speaker 9: the information that was released, he apparently had three judgments
- 1:27:01Speaker 9: against him for trying to pay back apparently credit cards
- 1:27:06Speaker 9: or a loan, some things of that nature, but it
- 1:27:08Speaker 9: was very minimal. It was about $ 40, 000, $ 50, 000. And he
- 1:27:11Speaker 9: still had apparently he refinanced his mortgage on his house,
- 1:27:16Speaker 9: so on and so forth. So obviously he needed the money.
- 1:27:19Speaker 9: One thing to note, if he did go to prison,
- 1:27:22Speaker 9: he loses his Social Security. So that's another whatever amount
- 1:27:27Speaker 9: it was, $ 2, 500 a month he would be losing. So
- 1:27:29Speaker 9: he would be taking a big hit if he lost
- 1:27:31Speaker 9: his pension and he lost his Social Security at the
- 1:27:34Speaker 9: same time. And again, it's this great irony. He's in Greece.
- 1:27:38Speaker 9: and his lawyer files a suit against the state to
- 1:27:42Speaker 9: not shut off his state pension. Does anyone see any
- 1:27:46Speaker 9: irony in that? I really wonder. I really wonder. Does
- 1:27:49Speaker 9: anyone see anything wrong with that situation?
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: Well, and how could I put it? Again, I'm not
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: going to put a moral judgment on the man. You
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: can see the facts that are there, and you can
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: draw your own conclusions as you see them.
- 1:28:03Speaker 28: But this.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: This is a thinking man for whatever purpose. He is
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: a thinking man. He is a literate man. He has,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: as he says, five children. He has, as he says
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: in his what I think was a very well-written email.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: He's troubled about the damage to his reputation. You know, again,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: you can decide what you know, what you believe there.
- 1:28:31Speaker 19: But.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: It wasn't like this thing of, oh, I'm going to
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: go to Greece. I mean, this was a carefully thought
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: and carefully planned thing. And you know, all these things
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: we're discussing, what happens to my pension? What happens to
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: my social security? When I get to Greece, how am
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: I going to make a living? Um, how am I
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: going to survive? I don't want to end up on
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: a street somewhere on whatever the Greek word is for street.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: I mean, and not only that, but, uh, I would
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: think he'd have to have that, you know, in his mind. Like,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: I'm going to get this pension no matter what or
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: what happens if I don't get the pension. And then
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: when he gets there to be so free and talking
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: about every... It's just, I mean, I think it's like
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: too soon to speculate what all this means. But I
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: think there's, you know, I keep saying this. It's my
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: mother's expression. There's a lot more milk in this coconut,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: my friend.
- 1:29:26Speaker 9: Exactly. And again, I think You know, in a way,
- 1:29:30Speaker 9: and I'm not trying to be a conspiracy theorist or
- 1:29:32Speaker 9: anything like that, but I'm just trying to logically figure
- 1:29:35Speaker 9: out what would cause him to do something like this
- 1:29:39Speaker 9: and or why, you know, no one listened to him
- 1:29:43Speaker 9: or believed him if he is actually telling the truth.
- 1:29:46Speaker 9: So if he is telling the truth, then he decided,
- 1:29:50Speaker 9: you know, came right out and said, and probably said
- 1:29:52Speaker 9: to his lawyer, too, listen, I'm out of here. I'm
- 1:29:54Speaker 9: a Greek citizen. I can be protected in Greece. I'm
- 1:29:57Speaker 9: going there. I still want to try to get my
- 1:30:00Speaker 9: state pension. You know, I know that might not be possible.
- 1:30:03Speaker 9: If I get my Social Security, I can get by.
- 1:30:05Speaker 9: I don't know, you know, things of that nature. I'm
- 1:30:07Speaker 9: going to go bankrupt in the United States one way
- 1:30:09Speaker 9: or the other because I can't afford to pay everything. And,
- 1:30:12Speaker 9: you know, this is my last way out. I can
- 1:30:14Speaker 9: live out, you know, the remaining years of my life,
- 1:30:17Speaker 9: you know, in peace and quiet type of thing. But again,
- 1:30:20Speaker 9: let's go back to the email. The email to me
- 1:30:22Speaker 9: is very troubling because, as you stated this morning, and
- 1:30:26Speaker 9: anybody who's read through the entire email, a lot of
- 1:30:30Speaker 9: the stuff makes some sense. And it's written in an
- 1:30:35Speaker 9: articulate fashion, not a rambling fashion. So I don't know
- 1:30:39Speaker 9: why there's not more attention being paid to the email itself.
- 1:30:44Speaker 9: and try to get some responses from the Lamont administration
- 1:30:48Speaker 9: as to some of his questions and his things that
- 1:30:55Speaker 9: he said that they did. Why aren't they coming right
- 1:30:58Speaker 9: out and completely denying it? Or is it they have
- 1:31:01Speaker 9: to be silenced and hopefully it goes away again? It
- 1:31:04Speaker 9: just doesn't make sense to me. It really does not
- 1:31:06Speaker 9: make sense to me.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Well, it's troubling because the only good questions you see,
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: and I don't care if it's the Lamont administration, I
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: don't care if it's criticisms against or observations about the
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: Fazio campaign or the state Republican Party or just immigration
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: or the actions of Attorney General William Tong in effectively
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: casting a moral judgment on anybody. You do not see
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: any of that other than, you know, save Connecticut Sentinel.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: God bless them. You don't see any sort of investigative
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: information coming from any of these things other than, quote-unquote,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: I tell people you want to find out what's happening. And, Bob,
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: I say that's a tragedy because it's like when I
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: was a kid, I can pick up any one of
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: one or two or three or four newsletters And I
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: would get what was actually happening, albeit through a different prism. Now,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: when we look at, quote, unquote, what's happening in state television,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: state-run newspapers and things like that, you only get an
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: opinion piece, and they never deal with the things, the
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: questions you and I are dealing with. And this is
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: such a disservice and an insult to the people of
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: the state.
- 1:32:31Speaker 35: Exactly.
- 1:32:32Speaker 9: And, again, it takes basically two common citizens– to do
- 1:32:37Speaker 9: the investigation and to see, you know, okay, this doesn't
- 1:32:40Speaker 9: make sense, this doesn't match, so on and so forth.
- 1:32:43Speaker 9: Why has journalism evolved into this kind of state is
- 1:32:47Speaker 9: beyond me. And it just doesn't make sense to me.
- 1:32:51Speaker 9: I want to touch, I want to go back to
- 1:32:53Speaker 9: some more financial issues with regards to this whole case.
- 1:32:58Speaker 9: You look at the case in general, okay, again, how
- 1:33:01Speaker 9: much did the state overpay in a lot of these contracts?
- 1:33:05Speaker 9: Number two, where was all this our money coming from
- 1:33:08Speaker 9: from the contractors is that included in the cost of
- 1:33:11Speaker 9: the contract i would i would say yes number three
- 1:33:14Speaker 9: the cost of prosecution now the cost of trying to
- 1:33:17Speaker 9: get him back to the united states even if that's
- 1:33:20Speaker 9: possible again taxpayers money being paid for that i mean
- 1:33:24Speaker 9: it's like to me it's just such a debacle from
- 1:33:26Speaker 9: top to finish it's just not even funny it's just
- 1:33:30Speaker 9: really it's just really annoys me to know when i
- 1:33:33Speaker 9: mean the corruption in connecticut literally has been going on
- 1:33:36Speaker 9: for years. And it's just everybody just shrugs their shoulders
- 1:33:41Speaker 9: and say, oh, well, you know, we'll get them next
- 1:33:43Speaker 9: time type of thing, and that's it. Well, it's time.
- 1:33:46Speaker 9: It's time for it to stop once and for all.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: Well, we're reaching people out there. We have one of
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: our devoted listeners, Old Dan, says, wondering if Bob or
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: Tony has any idea how in 2021 Governor Lamont reported
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: income of $ 54 million. It was only $ 8 to $ 10
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: million in 2018, 2020. How does income jump so much
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: in one year? I would think, Dan, that might be
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: his share of the family partnership and the SEMA IV IPO, which,
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: of course, made absolutely no money and all the profits
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: were to go to charity. Now, look at it this way, Bob.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: I was thinking about this last night. Let's just say
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: it was an honest screw-up. We are people. There's nothing
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: great about being a human being. Trust me, I've been one.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: And if you make a mistake, it's like, well, I'm
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: going to fix the mistake and I'm going to fail forward.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: So where is the real-time disclosure? Where is the payback schedule?
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: Where is the, you know, where is the, we never
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: saw any of that. It was just like, okay, boom, bang,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: on to the next thing. So that's my one thought.
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: That's probably how it got it. The $ 54 million, please
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: go ahead.
- 1:34:55Speaker 9: Well, to your point, If you're managing hundreds of millions
- 1:34:58Speaker 9: of dollars, you really need to know what you're doing.
- 1:35:00Speaker 9: And I make a mistake like that. And since that's
- 1:35:04Speaker 9: 2021 issued in 2022, so what's happened the past four years?
- 1:35:09Speaker 9: I can only imagine what his tax return is like now,
- 1:35:12Speaker 9: probably hundreds of millions of dollars or $ 42 million. And
- 1:35:16Speaker 9: how did he do it? Good question. Everybody would like
- 1:35:19Speaker 9: to know. But, again, we don't know, and we can't
- 1:35:22Speaker 9: see it. So, again, I agree with you. I think
- 1:35:24Speaker 9: a lot of that gain is Seema Fork. I think
- 1:35:27Speaker 9: a lot of the gain was from COVID-related businesses and
- 1:35:33Speaker 9: no-bid state contracts, so on and so forth. I really
- 1:35:37Speaker 9: think he's a heavy hitter as far as using state
- 1:35:41Speaker 9: money to his benefit with regards to all these shell companies,
- 1:35:46Speaker 9: the Cayman Islands debacle, so on and so forth. So
- 1:35:49Speaker 9: to the question that the listener is posing, yes, it
- 1:35:53Speaker 9: was probably an increase from Seymour Fork. If it was
- 1:35:56Speaker 9: a mistake, it should have been rectified by now. It's
- 1:35:59Speaker 9: over five years later.
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: It just amazes me. And to your point, those people
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: that are close to him, that ask him questions at
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: press conferences and things like that, I mean, somebody will
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: ask him how many Grateful Dead belts he has and
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: where is the best pizza and all these sorts.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: And meanwhile.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: You know, there are all these unanswered questions, and I've
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: got to be very honest here. I hear a lot
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: from the state Republican Party about, you know, fight corruption,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: fight corruption, fight corruption. Okay. But number one, you cannot
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: fight corruption without full and total and complete disclosure right
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: on a citizen doge, people looking at information without a
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: stupid politician shouting in your ear. That would be a start. And,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: you know, the other thing as far as that sort
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: of thing is we hear about all the sins of
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: the agencies and things like that. And there are myriad
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: and there are many. I don't hear anybody talking about,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: you know, throttle will abolish the should be abolished Connecticut
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: Department of Economic and Community Development. Because you know why?
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: It's the money, honey. It's the glad hand. Everybody was
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: in on that sucker. And it's like, here's an organization
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: that's just, you know, you want to blame Douglas McCrory?
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Go ahead. You want to blame Sancerre Cicero? Go ahead.
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: What about the bartender that kept pouring the liquor? Somehow
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: that doesn't factor into it. Drives me crazy.
- 1:37:31Speaker 9: Well, I think it drives a lot of people crazy.
- 1:37:34Speaker 9: And also, it's basically an example of a totally non-transparent
- 1:37:39Speaker 9: state government where the Connecticut taxpayer must do as they're told,
- 1:37:44Speaker 9: never question what state government does for state government is correct,
- 1:37:48Speaker 9: state government is right. State government can do whatever it wants. Laws,
- 1:37:52Speaker 9: the Constitution of the state are basically ignored one way
- 1:37:55Speaker 9: or the other. It's really, it's almost like a rope burning,
- 1:38:00Speaker 9: and it can't, and the flames will never go out.
- 1:38:03Speaker 9: That's what it really comes down to. And again, it's
- 1:38:05Speaker 9: a golden opportunity in November to try to change this
- 1:38:09Speaker 9: debacle that you have, and it's all public information, with
- 1:38:14Speaker 9: the exception, with the exception of what Not what we
- 1:38:18Speaker 9: don't know about Ned Lamont and all his different shell companies,
- 1:38:23Speaker 9: all the different no-bid contracts, so on and so forth.
- 1:38:26Speaker 9: And it all stems from the fact of at the
- 1:38:29Speaker 9: time of COVID. he basically ruled the state with an
- 1:38:33Speaker 9: iron fist, and we're going to have a real tough
- 1:38:36Speaker 9: time finding out what really happened, really, really happened, and
- 1:38:40Speaker 9: where the money went from that point on.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: Well, and that brings me to something that is never
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: discussed except by me and except by you, and it's
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: on your litany of all the Lamont questions, if you will,
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: as far as the thing, advanced CT. Now, part of
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: this whole thing of starting from the COVID baby, every
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: week I was coming here and we were talking about
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: something else we're finding and something else we're finding. There
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: was a non-profit. the Connecticut Economic Resource Council.
- 1:39:17Speaker 52: And.
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: After maybe the first two months of 2020, pre-COVID, it was, oh,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: we're rebranding that to something known as Advanced CT. And
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: what we found out was that there was, quote, unquote,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: there was no rebranding. There was a renaming of the
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: first charitable organization, Cough, Spit, Barf. And there was, quote, unquote,
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: a new clandestine foundation of which all of the COVID
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: dealings were held in that exempt from freedom of information.
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: Everything that goes on in these nonprofits, they all sit
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: there and cry and wring their hands, and this is terrible. Well,
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: why don't we have, you know, you take a public dollar,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: you agree to put your business in the street. After all,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: to me, that's fair. And it's like, you know, if
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: anybody says that or agrees with it, they're saying it
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: into their elbow, frankly. And it's like, well, what happens
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: if they find my crony? You know, and Bob, it's
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: like I am so damned tired of it. And it's
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: like and the thing is, advanced CT is that whenever
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: you read something in state run news like, oh, you know,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: we got 50 jobs. The D.C.D. gave them 50 million
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: in credit to advanced CT.
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: Well, what happened?
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: How many you know, how many two percent loans are
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: in there? And when you study the people in Advanced CT,
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: they're really kind of a rogues gallery of all the
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: people in Connecticut who you have questions with. I mean,
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: this is not acceptable practice. Sorry, I'm being very polite.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: We're on radio. I'm not on my show.
- 1:40:48Speaker 9: Well, it's not acceptable. And, again, let's parallel. What's the
- 1:40:52Speaker 9: state unemployment rate? Higher than the nation's average. Where's the
- 1:40:57Speaker 9: state in business development and business friendliness? Bottom five states.
- 1:41:00Speaker 9: Where's the state in taxation? Bottom, you know, highest five
- 1:41:03Speaker 9: states in the country. So you're spending all this money
- 1:41:06Speaker 9: and getting no result. Would anyone want to question that?
- 1:41:10Speaker 9: Would anyone want to say, okay, this is not working.
- 1:41:13Speaker 9: Let's try doing something else. Or can we not do
- 1:41:16Speaker 9: something else because Lamont and his family control advanced CP
- 1:41:22Speaker 9: to a large degree, and you don't want to cut
- 1:41:25Speaker 9: off their cash supply. And again, it may be an
- 1:41:29Speaker 9: accusation I'm making, but you know what? If all I
- 1:41:32Speaker 9: hear is something different from either the governor or advanced
- 1:41:35Speaker 9: CP or somebody in the state of Connecticut, I'm assuming
- 1:41:39Speaker 9: that this is not a functional and or legal and
- 1:41:44Speaker 9: or ethical situation that the state has engaged upon. to
- 1:41:48Speaker 9: try to create economic development that it just seems not
- 1:41:51Speaker 9: to be able to do in any way, shape, or form.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: If it were ethical and transparent and everything else, there'd
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: be no problem in showing it and disclosing it. But, man, oh, man,
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: this thing has burned out quickly. Another Power Hour in
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: the books. Tony D'Angelo, Bob Swick, we will be coming

- 1:47:29Speaker 60: to an end.
- 1:47:29Speaker 28: It's been difficult.
- 1:47:31Speaker 47: The president also will meet today with the leaders of
- 1:47:32Speaker 47: Gulf countries. And Rubio also just told Fox Iran remains
- 1:47:35Speaker 47: a big problem.
- 1:47:36Speaker 60: They're behind the Houthis in Yemen that are attacking Saudi Arabia,
- 1:47:39Speaker 60: and they want a nuclear weapon. That's of concern not
- 1:47:41Speaker 60: just to the Gulf states, but should be of concern
- 1:47:43Speaker 60: to the world.
- 1:47:43Speaker 47: Iran's president is also at the U.N., and we'll speak
- 1:47:46Speaker 47: there tomorrow. Fox's Trey Yinks reports from Tel Aviv.
- 1:47:48Speaker 61: Iran targeted two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz
- 1:47:51Speaker 61: on Monday as the IRGC ramps up attacks.
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: In this critical international shipping route.
- 1:47:58Speaker 61: The Iranian economy is continuing to suffer due to the
- 1:48:00Speaker 61: ongoing naval blockade. Inflation remains high, as does the Iranian
- 1:48:04Speaker 61: currency at a very weak state.
- 1:48:06Speaker 47: Oil prices are falling again, coming down from a surge
- 1:48:09Speaker 47: last week, dropping more than 2% today, but at the
- 1:48:11Speaker 47: gas pump, diesel's up another penny this morning to a
- 1:48:14Speaker 47: new record high, $ 6. 52 per gallon, according to AAA. The
- 1:48:18Speaker 47: midterm elections are six-week from today, and in Missouri, they
- 1:48:21Speaker 47: still don't know what ballots to use as the congressional
- 1:48:24Speaker 47: redistricting legal battle goes back and forth.
- 1:48:27Speaker 41: A federal appeals panel ruled Monday in favor of new
- 1:48:30Speaker 41: districts backed by President Trump, even though the Supreme Court
- 1:48:33Speaker 41: has blocked those districts from being used in the November election.
- 1:48:36Speaker 41: A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of
- 1:48:39Speaker 41: Appeals says Missouri should use the new Republican-drawn House District
- 1:48:42Speaker 41: for the midterms, as it did in its August primary.
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: That's Fox's Tom Rigotti.
- 1:48:47Speaker 47: Now, Missouri's Supreme Court had ruled that they have to
- 1:48:50Speaker 47: use the old ballots, so the U.S. Supreme Court may
- 1:48:54Speaker 47: have to weigh in again. America's listening to Fox News.

- 1:54:41Speaker 1: the Tuesdays, I am here. I've been blessed by this
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: gentleman's presence, and I'm learning a lot. And I'm going
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: to let him take the ball and run with it
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: as he so chooses. Judge John Nazaro. How are you, Judge?
- 1:54:55Speaker 28: I'm well, you know, and I woke up a little
- 1:54:57Speaker 28: late this morning, so I was in my Dr. Denton's
- 1:54:59Speaker 28: all snuggled up in bed. I love this time of year,
- 1:55:02Speaker 28: fall season, you know. But we're going to jump right
- 1:55:04Speaker 28: into it. You know, Bob Swick and you were talking
- 1:55:06Speaker 28: about Connecticut. And I wonder, does Connecticut care? You know,
- 1:55:09Speaker 28: that's the problem. Tony, if I can be so bold
- 1:55:12Speaker 28: to say, is this the year that there's enough people
- 1:55:16Speaker 28: that are tired of the headline after headline of perceived corruption?
- 1:55:20Speaker 28: We've got this Costa Diamantes thing. So taking a dive,
- 1:55:24Speaker 28: let's go back memory lane. We're broadcasting from the Ledger Studios.
- 1:55:27Speaker 28: People might remember back in 1985, P. Takas Veliotis, who
- 1:55:33Speaker 28: had a huge purge. He was the head of electric
- 1:55:35Speaker 28: boat And then he was indicted on bribery and he
- 1:55:39Speaker 28: skipped to Greece. OK, he skipped to Greece in his sentencing.
- 1:55:43Speaker 28: Other defections from the United States. And we're talking about
- 1:55:46Speaker 28: Costa Diamantes for those just tuning in. He was convicted
- 1:55:49Speaker 28: of 21 felony counts of bribery. Interesting, because when I
- 1:55:53Speaker 28: tried my first case, it was a government corruption case.
- 1:55:56Speaker 28: Twenty one counts. It was the same number. This is weird.
- 1:55:59Speaker 28: But he was convicted. He was looking at a long
- 1:56:01Speaker 28: stretch in federal court. A lot of finger pointing to
- 1:56:04Speaker 28: the federal judge. Stephan Underhill, the U.S. Attorney's Office, everybody
- 1:56:09Speaker 28: was asleep. Why didn't they confiscate his passport? It's not
- 1:56:12Speaker 28: like Costas didn't telegraph that he wanted to go to Greece.
- 1:56:16Speaker 28: He asked the judge several times, I've got a passport.
- 1:56:19Speaker 28: He obtained it in March of 25, and he said
- 1:56:21Speaker 28: there was some kind of land transaction. So he drives
- 1:56:24Speaker 28: to Florida, takes a boat to the Bahamas, and then
- 1:56:27Speaker 28: ends up in London, and then he goes to Greece. Well,
- 1:56:31Speaker 28: he may never come back, and this is the problem.
- 1:56:33Speaker 28: This is what happened with Veliotis. There were millions that
- 1:56:36Speaker 28: were sought. I think in 1994, the U.S. government made
- 1:56:39Speaker 28: a deal with Veliotis and paid some money back. Other
- 1:56:43Speaker 28: high-profile defections, now people are not going to like me.
- 1:56:46Speaker 28: Don't get mad, Mayor Mike. The city of New London
- 1:56:48Speaker 28: was a cesspool 40 years ago.
- 1:56:51Speaker 7: I was a.
- 1:56:52Speaker 28: Prosecutor doing undercover narcotics work with the task force, and
- 1:56:55Speaker 28: then I was a defense lawyer, okay, defending people that
- 1:56:59Speaker 28: I formerly prosecuted. And there was a guy, his name
- 1:57:01Speaker 28: was Alberto Howe. And he was head of the Ocean
- 1:57:04Speaker 28: Beach Park Board. And unfortunately, he was indicted on drug charges.
- 1:57:09Speaker 28: And he skipped. And another one. Actually, it was Lou Atherton.
- 1:57:16Speaker 28: Let me correct that. Lou Atherton was head of the
- 1:57:18Speaker 28: Ocean Beach Park Board. And he was cousins with Alberto Howe.
- 1:57:22Speaker 28: And Alberto was a big-time drug dealer. And he ended
- 1:57:25Speaker 28: up in Panama. And locally, there was another city official,
- 1:57:30Speaker 28: Luz Gonzalez. She was head of Centro de la Comunidad.
- 1:57:34Speaker 28: The drug trafficking was so bad at a telephone stanchion
- 1:57:38Speaker 28: at Truman Street that SNET had to remove the telephone.
- 1:57:44Speaker 28: It's on the corner of Truman and down near Blackhall Street.
- 1:57:47Speaker 28: And these were bad days. And people defected. They left.
- 1:57:51Speaker 28: And they never caught up. I don't think they ever
- 1:57:52Speaker 28: caught up with how I think it might have died
- 1:57:54Speaker 28: in Panama. I don't know. Maybe a caller knows. But
- 1:57:56Speaker 28: a lot of bad stuff. People skipping bond. Beth Carpenter,
- 1:58:01Speaker 28: she's in the news. Beth Carpenter was arrested, convicted, conspiracy
- 1:58:06Speaker 28: to commit murder. I have to be careful because I
- 1:58:09Speaker 28: actually represented a co-accused, one of the individuals involved. But
- 1:58:13Speaker 28: now Beth Carpenter is seeking a new trial. She ended
- 1:58:16Speaker 28: up in London or Ireland. And my good late friend,
- 1:58:22Speaker 28: Hugh Keefe, wonderful criminal lawyer, passed away a few years ago.
- 1:58:27Speaker 28: He represented her. along with Tara Knight, who's now a judge,
- 1:58:31Speaker 28: and Tara Keefe. And she went overseas, and arguably people theorized,
- 1:58:38Speaker 28: and I never discussed it with you, did she go
- 1:58:40Speaker 28: there because there was no extradition. And state's attorney Peter McShane,
- 1:58:44Speaker 28: who's now a judge, and the chief state's attorney, Kevin Kane,
- 1:58:48Speaker 28: took a plane ride overseas to Ireland. And people said
- 1:58:52Speaker 28: it was a junket. No, they were trying to retrieve
- 1:58:54Speaker 28: the fleeing felon. And for those that know, Carpenter is
- 1:58:58Speaker 28: serving an extended sentence. So we have some history here.
- 1:59:02Speaker 28: It's ugly, and we can point fingers all we want,
- 1:59:05Speaker 28: but the reality is this is what people do. It's
- 1:59:07Speaker 28: not a foolproof system. People are going to skip.
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: I relate to you what some people have asked me,
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: your opinion.
- 1:59:16Speaker 11: Sure.
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: Right now we're just dealing, at least me, myself, and
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: I are just dealing in this world of what's up
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: and what's down. Do you— Costa Diamantis yesterday and other
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: times he made a statement and he said, I've handed
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: a manifesto of sorts to the justice department. Um, and
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: he says, I believe this has quote unquote, the goods,
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: whatever the goods are. Um, do you believe that there's
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: any sort of, uh, I, I realize witness protection is
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: a term of art that doesn't apply here, but is
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: there some sort of, uh, is he operating to do
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: something with the government against the state?
- 1:59:59Speaker 28: Well, let me say this. My personal opinion is I
- 2:00:02Speaker 28: doubt it, but is it common for individuals whose neck
- 2:00:06Speaker 28: is in the noose and they've got to go to
- 2:00:08Speaker 28: prison for a long time to try to make a deal?
- 2:00:11Speaker 28: It's very common. Do I think this is going on?
- 2:00:13Speaker 28: I don't think so. I don't think so. And we
- 2:00:15Speaker 28: had a press conference with his attorney, Norm Pattis, a
- 2:00:19Speaker 28: well-known criminal lawyer in Connecticut. and he made a press conference,
- 2:00:23Speaker 28: I think it was last Friday, and he said, you know,
- 2:00:24Speaker 28: he was disappointed, he didn't know about this, et cetera.
- 2:00:26Speaker 28: Is this all a ruse, right? I don't think so,
- 2:00:30Speaker 28: and I just, you know, this is another problem. The
- 2:00:33Speaker 28: federal government gets involved in very serious financial crimes. They
- 2:00:36Speaker 28: want to get involved in counterterrorism. When have you seen
- 2:00:40Speaker 28: the federal government, well, not too often with local state
- 2:00:43Speaker 28: of Connecticut corruption, there's this relationship going on between the
- 2:00:46Speaker 28: United States government, U.S. Attorney's Office, New Haven, Hartford, Bridgeport,
- 2:00:51Speaker 28: And the state of Connecticut, it's kind of a hands off.
- 2:00:53Speaker 28: It's kind of a hands off thing. You know, the
- 2:00:55Speaker 28: attorney general in Connecticut isn't going to touch it. It's
- 2:00:57Speaker 28: all too much politics. So it's business as usual. But
- 2:01:01Speaker 28: is this the year? This is where politics right dovetails
- 2:01:04Speaker 28: into law. And then you have a lawsuit filed by Mr.
- 2:01:08Speaker 25: Pettis.
- 2:01:08Speaker 28: I believe it. He filed it to get Diamantis's pension back.
- 2:01:13Speaker 28: You know, I'm sorry, but heads up for Sean Scanlon,
- 2:01:18Speaker 28: the comptroller. who stepped up apparently to revoke the pension.
- 2:01:22Speaker 28: Whether it's lawful, we'll see. It's going to be tested
- 2:01:24Speaker 28: in the courts. But no one did anything as far
- 2:01:27Speaker 28: as I know. The attorney general, not the governor. Now,
- 2:01:30Speaker 28: the governor must have known about this. You know, the
- 2:01:33Speaker 28: comptroller is part of the cabinet, so to speak, but
- 2:01:36Speaker 28: it's an independently elected office that we know about. And
- 2:01:39Speaker 28: in all fair disclosure, I am a state retiree. Sean
- 2:01:42Speaker 28: signs my checks. Thank you very much, taxpayers, for my
- 2:01:45Speaker 28: time as a judge. I have a pension. And state benefits.
- 2:01:48Speaker 28: So to cut off the— wow, you know, that's kind of— I
- 2:01:52Speaker 28: was going to use that term. I shouldn't use that radio.
- 2:01:54Speaker 28: Kind of a tough move. And we'll see if it
- 2:01:56Speaker 28: passes muster. But now we had a lawsuit. And the
- 2:02:00Speaker 28: hubris— I' m going to say this— the hubris of a guy sitting
- 2:02:05Speaker 28: in probably palatial circumstances who's fled the country— And is
- 2:02:09Speaker 28: an alleged fugitive from justice, alleged, to say, I want
- 2:02:13Speaker 28: my pension.
- 2:02:14Speaker 7: Wow.
- 2:02:14Speaker 28: You know, do people, is this the tipping point? Is
- 2:02:18Speaker 28: this the tipping point where the voters will come out
- 2:02:20Speaker 28: and say, hey, no more. We're done with this. Corrupt-a-kit.
- 2:02:23Speaker 28: That's what they call Connecticut. Corrupt-a-kit. All the slams under
- 2:02:27Speaker 28: the John Rowland administration. Two times in prison. We've talked
- 2:02:31Speaker 28: about this. You know, and it's been a long time
- 2:02:33Speaker 28: since the Republicans have been in power. But two times.
- 2:02:36Speaker 1: Does it strike you unusual as Tony D'Angelo and for
- 2:02:39Speaker 1: Lee LCM speaking, have the privilege of speaking with Judge
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: John Nazero. Does it strike you odd, Judge, that this
- 2:02:48Speaker 1: man who is a fugitive from justice is all of
- 2:02:51Speaker 1: a sudden from Greece has become this media star? He's
- 2:02:55Speaker 1: talking to anybody. He's doing videos. He's pretty much, shall
- 2:03:01Speaker 1: he sing, what I put down in the email is true,
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: what I've said is true. I'm right, they're wrong. But that,
- 2:03:08Speaker 1: I mean, don't fugitives like run and hide?
- 2:03:10Speaker 28: Normally, normally, one might suggest it's a pretty strong ego there.
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:03:15Speaker 28: You know, pretty strong. I was involved in a matter,
- 2:03:18Speaker 28: and I know the person might be listening. I actually
- 2:03:20Speaker 28: was involved in an investigation involving one of the– involved
- 2:03:27Speaker 28: with contract bidding, et cetera. It's really sad because there
- 2:03:30Speaker 28: are a lot of people that have been caught in
- 2:03:31Speaker 28: a jet wash who have been wrongfully maligned. But I
- 2:03:34Speaker 28: have to say something, and this is kind of important
- 2:03:36Speaker 28: for those listening statewide. You know, we've got the Office
- 2:03:39Speaker 28: of the Chief State's Attorney, and this is public news.
- 2:03:42Speaker 28: A state's attorney sued the state of Connecticut. It's public
- 2:03:45Speaker 28: news because of corruption in the public integrity unit of
- 2:03:49Speaker 28: the Office of the Chief State's Attorney. And there was
- 2:03:52Speaker 28: a settlement, and there's no nondisclosure agreement. So a prosecutor
- 2:03:56Speaker 28: sued the state, made a settlement, lawsuit, substantial money, six figures.
- 2:04:01Speaker 28: And unfortunately, the state's attorney is forever barred from holding
- 2:04:04Speaker 28: any state office and found corruption in their own means.
- 2:04:09Speaker 28: I can tell you, as a former chief civil judge
- 2:04:11Speaker 28: in New London, there was an individual walked out for
- 2:04:14Speaker 28: falsifying timesheets, shaving the corners, doing bad stuff. Did you
- 2:04:18Speaker 28: hear about it? Of course you didn't, right? Because it's
- 2:04:21Speaker 28: all buried. Don't send an email. Don't publicize anything. A
- 2:04:24Speaker 28: lot of stuff goes on in this state, ladies and gentlemen.
- 2:04:27Speaker 28: You've got state representatives like Vinny Candeloria down at Brantford
- 2:04:31Speaker 28: who want a doge, who want an accountability. And is
- 2:04:34Speaker 28: it falling on deaf ears? We've been a blue state
- 2:04:37Speaker 28: for so long. Maybe this is the year. I really wonder,
- 2:04:40Speaker 28: you know, because I've been kind of a naysayer saying
- 2:04:42Speaker 28: people don't care. Just about every state trooper I know,
- 2:04:46Speaker 28: and let's get a call from Todd Lynch, every trooper
- 2:04:48Speaker 28: that retires goes to Florida. They go to the West Coast.
- 2:04:51Speaker 28: I can name a gazillion names. of friends and coworkers
- 2:04:55Speaker 28: who are down on the West Coast. They want to
- 2:04:57Speaker 28: get the heck out into Connecticut as fast as they can. Yes,
- 2:05:00Speaker 28: they don't tax government pensions down in the state of Florida,
- 2:05:03Speaker 28: but it's bad. $ 28, 000 a year we're losing, you know,
- 2:05:07Speaker 28: in terms of population. They're just fleeing. They're fleeing Connecticut
- 2:05:10Speaker 28: in droves with their hair on fire, and they look
- 2:05:13Speaker 28: like Lee and I. You know, no hair. So this
- 2:05:16Speaker 28: is what's going on. Do people care? I don't know.
- 2:05:18Speaker 1: Well, you know, and I think to your point, if
- 2:05:22Speaker 1: you look at the I like to say that. They're
- 2:05:27Speaker 1: never covering these things that you're discussing, I'm discussing. You know,
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: and the thing is, like you say, people have different
- 2:05:36Speaker 1: perspectives on the issue, but they see the issue, which
- 2:05:40Speaker 1: is glaring. And the only place you're going to get
- 2:05:43Speaker 1: a discussion of the issues is like here, X, a
- 2:05:47Speaker 1: video show, a Reddit.
- 2:05:51Speaker 7: It's, I mean, I.
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: Maybe they have had them.
- 2:05:54Speaker 28: I've got to give credit to the reporter from Ed Mahoney,
- 2:06:00Speaker 28: Ed Mahoney from the Hartford Courant. So Ed, I've known
- 2:06:03Speaker 28: for many years. He's an investigative reporter. He's the last
- 2:06:06Speaker 28: of the breed. When the Chicago Tribune bought the Hartford Courant,
- 2:06:09Speaker 28: they gutted their investigative resources. And, you know, dovetailing on
- 2:06:13Speaker 28: a point you made, why isn't this being looked at
- 2:06:15Speaker 28: in the media? Let's be honest. What's going on with
- 2:06:18Speaker 28: the New London Day newspaper? A lot of these reporters
- 2:06:22Speaker 28: are stringers. They're being paid $ 40 a story, okay? They
- 2:06:25Speaker 28: don't even— they' re not even reporters. There's a gal that was
- 2:06:28Speaker 28: covering local politics in a town, and she was like
- 2:06:31Speaker 28: a former English teacher. And I was an English major
- 2:06:34Speaker 28: with Bob Swick. We were part of the journalism program,
- 2:06:37Speaker 28: and we became reporters when we graduated from Southern Connecticut.
- 2:06:40Speaker 28: So the quality of the reporting is really lacking. And
- 2:06:44Speaker 28: you've got stringers, you know, people doing per— Per story
- 2:06:48Speaker 28: getting paid, that's not quality reporting, and no one wants
- 2:06:51Speaker 28: to dive. Was it the Connecticut Examiner that recently announced
- 2:06:55Speaker 28: a commitment? They hired a bunch of reporters. Connecticut Examiner
- 2:06:58Speaker 28: or Connecticut Insider, they hired a bunch of investigative reporters,
- 2:07:02Speaker 28: and they are committed to exposing the corruption, and they're
- 2:07:06Speaker 28: trying to do a deep dive. We'll see where it goes.
- 2:07:09Speaker 28: Online presence, you know.
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: It's certainly necessary because I think to your point, have
- 2:07:15Speaker 1: we had enough? Yeah, I think we have. And the
- 2:07:18Speaker 1: only way we're having enough is just because this chasm
- 2:07:21Speaker 1: between reality and what the official take is, is so
- 2:07:25Speaker 1: great with so many questions. And it's like, how do
- 2:07:29Speaker 1: you look at that and say, hey, there's something terribly
- 2:07:31Speaker 1: wrong here?
- 2:07:32Speaker 28: Six weeks from today, six weeks, people will be in
- 2:07:34Speaker 28: the polls and they have the opportunity to try to
- 2:07:36Speaker 28: make a change.
- 2:07:37Speaker 19: Right.
- 2:07:37Speaker 28: Everybody's vote counts. Don't think it doesn't count. So vote
- 2:07:40Speaker 28: your conscience. Number one, vote. That's important, right? Don't be
- 2:07:44Speaker 28: one of these people that says, oh, it doesn't matter. No,
- 2:07:45Speaker 28: it does matter. If enough people mobilize, you can make change.
- 2:07:50Speaker 28: I wanted to mention another topic.
- 2:07:52Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 2:07:52Speaker 28: Just pivoting a little bit. You know, the latest Trump
- 2:07:56Speaker 28: action and now the lawsuit against the DOJ. I've mentioned
- 2:07:59Speaker 28: her many times. You know, my daughter is a reporter
- 2:08:02Speaker 28: down in the Beltway and not a good look for
- 2:08:05Speaker 28: the Trump administration. Dubar, CNN, MSNBC, Politico and others. And
- 2:08:09Speaker 28: now we got a lawsuit. And how did the last
- 2:08:11Speaker 28: one turn out? I bumped into Jim Costa down in Washington, D.C.
- 2:08:15Speaker 28: of CNN. I was down visiting the White House with
- 2:08:17Speaker 28: my family and we were just chatting. across the street.
- 2:08:20Speaker 28: It wasn't in any kind of official capacity. And he
- 2:08:23Speaker 28: would later be barred and CNN won, you know? So
- 2:08:26Speaker 28: why tee up a, why do that? It's a loss. It's,
- 2:08:30Speaker 28: it's foolish. I'm going to say it.
- 2:08:32Speaker 4: It's stupid.
- 2:08:33Speaker 28: It looks stupid. And you know what?
- 2:08:34Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 2:08:35Speaker 28: Lee Elsie would say that.
- 2:08:36Speaker 10: He would say it's stupid.
- 2:08:38Speaker 28: Why are you doing this? It's the art of the
- 2:08:40Speaker 28: self-inflicted wound.
- 2:08:41Speaker 35: You know?
- 2:08:42Speaker 4: You do good things, but.
- 2:08:43Speaker 28: Then you do a stupid thing, like barring media. Gee,
- 2:08:46Speaker 28: we have something in the Constitution. We've got a number
- 2:08:48Speaker 28: of amendments. Does anybody remember what the El Primo Amendment is?
- 2:08:52Speaker 1: The First Amendment.
- 2:08:53Speaker 11: Speech.
- 2:08:54Speaker 28: It's the number one for a reason.
- 2:08:56Speaker 7: You know?
- 2:08:56Speaker 28: And it detracts from good stuff going on. And now
- 2:09:01Speaker 28: the media is going to focus on that. You know,
- 2:09:03Speaker 28: you're going to have Caitlin Collins and CNN, Anderson Cooper.
- 2:09:06Speaker 28: They're going to be talking about the lawsuits. Even though
- 2:09:08Speaker 28: they're a party. It's just not a good look. It
- 2:09:13Speaker 28: doesn't work.
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: Well, and I mean, you know, I... New York Times
- 2:09:18Speaker 1: versus Sullivan. My favorite case in the world. It's all
- 2:09:22Speaker 1: fair game. It's like over.
- 2:09:23Speaker 46: Done.
- 2:09:24Speaker 1: And everybody wants to come back on whatever side. And
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: I'm with you. It's like, let the people come. But
- 2:09:31Speaker 1: let everybody have a voice. And then make up your
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: mind as to what... You know, they want to keep
- 2:09:36Speaker 1: the information from us... Whatever side that drives me crazy.
- 2:09:40Speaker 28: I was watching. I was watching News Nation. And the
- 2:09:42Speaker 28: reason why my wife watches News Nation is because my
- 2:09:45Speaker 28: daughter appears on that. And I'm watching Bill O'Reilly in
- 2:09:47Speaker 28: this tortured discussion. And I'm not a fan of Bill O'Reilly.
- 2:09:50Speaker 1: He's got to go.
- 2:09:51Speaker 28: He's he's way beyond his expiration date.
- 2:09:53Speaker 1: You mean both.
- 2:09:53Speaker 28: And I'm not a fan of Chris Cuomo. And I
- 2:09:55Speaker 28: said News Nation is the land where fired hosts end up.
- 2:09:58Speaker 28: You know, Cuomo got O'Reilly and O'Reilly's talking about the
- 2:10:01Speaker 28: one sided media. Well, Fox is one sided and he's
- 2:10:03Speaker 28: criticizing CNN, you know. And Fox fired him. So it's like,
- 2:10:08Speaker 28: come on. They're guilty on both sides. You've got extremists
- 2:10:11Speaker 28: on both sides. Not a good thing. Are we going
- 2:10:14Speaker 28: to come to the center? I don't know. Are cooler
- 2:10:17Speaker 28: heads going to prevail? Because two things can be true
- 2:10:20Speaker 28: at the same time.
- 2:10:21Speaker 1: We're finding that out, especially we're talking this morning about
- 2:10:24Speaker 1: the Diamantis thing. And I think there are a couple
- 2:10:27Speaker 1: of other things you'd like to discuss in our remaining minutes.
- 2:10:29Speaker 25: Oh, yeah.
- 2:10:29Speaker 28: Well, we had the shooting. We had another ICE shooting.
- 2:10:31Speaker 28: And I didn't go deep into this.
- 2:10:33Speaker 36: Me neither.
- 2:10:34Speaker 28: Not a good look. You know, a guy, you know,
- 2:10:37Speaker 28: driving while brown. What was the purpose of pulling him over?
- 2:10:40Speaker 28: It's not clear. But I'll say this, okay? And I
- 2:10:43Speaker 28: said this in a joke to Lee Elsie off the
- 2:10:45Speaker 28: air and to Tony. I'm going to disqualify myself from
- 2:10:48Speaker 28: Inspector General because the Inspector General for the state of
- 2:10:52Speaker 28: Connecticut investigates every police-involved shooting. And, folks, even law enforcement,
- 2:10:57Speaker 28: you cannot use deadly force unless you have a reasonable
- 2:11:01Speaker 28: belief that deadly force is facing you. That's an objectively reasonable.
- 2:11:06Speaker 28: That's a subjectively. You got a guy in a car
- 2:11:09Speaker 28: shot in the back. And I'm sure the officer will say,
- 2:11:11Speaker 28: the ICE officer will say, well, I thought he was
- 2:11:13Speaker 28: reaching for a weapon. There was a case in New London.
- 2:11:16Speaker 28: I was talking to my wife about this, where an
- 2:11:18Speaker 28: officer shot a guy who admittedly stole an ICE truck
- 2:11:21Speaker 28: and it fell on its side. And you got a
- 2:11:23Speaker 28: picture of the New London officer shooting the guy because
- 2:11:26Speaker 28: he thinks he's going for a weapon. He was going
- 2:11:28Speaker 28: for a cell phone. I arraigned the victim in a wheelchair. Wheelchair.
- 2:11:33Speaker 28: He sued the city of New London, collected millions. You
- 2:11:36Speaker 28: got to have a reasonable belief. At the end of
- 2:11:39Speaker 28: the day, the guy with the ice truck that's tipped
- 2:11:41Speaker 28: on its side, well, he ain't going anywhere. He might
- 2:11:44Speaker 28: be a fleeing felon because he committed larceny to the
- 2:11:47Speaker 28: first degree. You shoot him? Really? That's why the city
- 2:11:50Speaker 28: paid out millions of dollars. And this is why it's
- 2:11:52Speaker 28: a tough job. This is why, as Greg Howard says
- 2:11:55Speaker 28: and Todd Lynch, you can't get good candidates coming to
- 2:11:58Speaker 28: the academy. It's so hard to field a competent class
- 2:12:02Speaker 28: at the State Police Academy, local police departments. They're scrambling.
- 2:12:06Speaker 1: Tough job.
- 2:12:07Speaker 28: Hey, maybe you shouldn't go there. If you don't want
- 2:12:10Speaker 28: to take the decisions, it's a hard decision. Life and death.
- 2:12:13Speaker 28: We can't have people shot in the back because they're brown. Again,
- 2:12:17Speaker 28: it's a bad look for the administration.
- 2:12:19Speaker 1: It's a high bar, you know, like I always say.
- 2:12:22Speaker 1: And believe me, I've been very remiss about studying the
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: flock camera debate.
- 2:12:27Speaker 28: Oh, I have my views on that.
- 2:12:28Speaker 36: Yeah.
- 2:12:30Speaker 1: But that whole thing. And to me, it's like, well,
- 2:12:36Speaker 1: our First Amendment right, our Second Amendment right, our ability
- 2:12:40Speaker 1: to go where we want to go without the state
- 2:12:44Speaker 1: like the governor of Massachusetts who wants to send somebody
- 2:12:47Speaker 1: to knock on the door if you have a baby,
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: make sure everything's okay.
- 2:12:50Speaker 28: Yeah, I have a different view, Tony, and maybe it's
- 2:12:52Speaker 28: a minority view. And there was a meeting, and it
- 2:12:54Speaker 28: was Alyssa Bass, okay? She's a frequent commentator. I think
- 2:12:58Speaker 28: she runs a number of publications. And she talked about
- 2:13:00Speaker 28: this meeting at Stonehenge and Borough about cameras into the viaduct.
- 2:13:03Speaker 28: Here's my view. Is it a weird view? I'm okay
- 2:13:05Speaker 28: with cameras. I got no problem with cameras. Now, you're
- 2:13:07Speaker 28: talking to a guy that's undergone several in-depth background checks.
- 2:13:11Speaker 28: Governor Malloy nominated me to the— Judicial Review Council. I
- 2:13:16Speaker 28: got nothing to fear. I don't care if there's cameras
- 2:13:18Speaker 28: help law enforcement. Anybody ever watch an episode of CSI
- 2:13:22Speaker 28: or FBI or CIA? They're using cameras all the time. Yes,
- 2:13:26Speaker 28: it's Big Brother looking out. But they're very valuable investigative tools.
- 2:13:29Speaker 28: And I don't care if it gets my license plate
- 2:13:32Speaker 28: going somewhere. What are you worried about? If you're not
- 2:13:34Speaker 28: doing anything wrong, you got nothing to worry about.
- 2:13:37Speaker 1: Well, actually, I was going to approach that.
- 2:13:39Speaker 28: Put up more cameras. We put up cameras in downtown
- 2:13:41Speaker 28: Pawketuck because we had open drug dealing. And for the
- 2:13:44Speaker 28: longest time, the administration fought cameras in downtown. And as
- 2:13:49Speaker 28: a presiding judge, there was open heroin dealing downtown. And
- 2:13:52Speaker 28: the first selectman didn't want to admit it. The police
- 2:13:54Speaker 28: chief didn't want to admit it. They stopped keeping statistics
- 2:13:57Speaker 28: on drug arrests because they said, we got no problem.
- 2:14:00Speaker 28: We're a great community, great values. Don't tell the real
- 2:14:02Speaker 28: estate people you're going to hurt values. Cameras are good.
- 2:14:05Speaker 28: They help law enforcement.
- 2:14:06Speaker 1: Well, whatever way you come down, basically, and the way
- 2:14:12Speaker 1: you look at it, I think a policeman's job is
- 2:14:15Speaker 1: supposed to be hard. By definition, because it's to protect
- 2:14:19Speaker 1: the rights of citizens. To your point, just don't go
- 2:14:21Speaker 1: shooting people. Just don't go stupid. Just don't go stupid.
- 2:14:26Speaker 1: But the whole idea is, yeah, information in the right
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: context is wonderful. Information that's used is horrible.
- 2:14:34Speaker 28: Someone I know very informed on the subject handed me
- 2:14:36Speaker 28: a question that says, do we still have the assumption
- 2:14:40Speaker 28: of an expectation of privacy when we're in public? You know,
- 2:14:42Speaker 28: the answer is no. The answer is no. You get
- 2:14:44Speaker 28: these people, you know, doxing people coming up in their faces.
- 2:14:47Speaker 28: The state trooper in Mystic, the guy that comes to
- 2:14:49Speaker 28: his house with the cameras in his face. When you're
- 2:14:51Speaker 28: out in public and you're on the road, you know,
- 2:14:53Speaker 28: and the guy comes up to you with a camera,
- 2:14:55Speaker 28: there's no expectation of privacy. And the framers didn't anticipate this, but,
- 2:15:00Speaker 28: you know, so there we are. I think we're coming
- 2:15:02Speaker 28: up on a hard stop. That's right.
- 2:15:04Speaker 7: All right.
- 2:15:04Speaker 28: You can find me. I'm going to do a quick
- 2:15:07Speaker 28: commercial for the Ledger High School reunion, 1976, October 17th.
- 2:15:12Speaker 28: And if you're not a graduate of 76, like I am,
- 2:15:16Speaker 28: old guy, you're welcome to come anyway. And so look
- 2:15:19Speaker 28: for the announcement. And you can find me at Nazaro
- 2:15:21Speaker 28: Law at the Washington Street Coffeehouse across the street. When
- 2:15:24Speaker 28: I'm not drinking coffee, I actually practice law. So come by.
- 2:15:27Speaker 28: I'll buy you a coffee. Thank you, Tony, and thank you, Mr.
- 2:15:29Speaker 28: Lee Elsie, for giving me the opportunity. My pleasure.
- 2:15:31Speaker 1: Judge John Nazaro signing out. Open phones at 830. I
- 2:15:35Speaker 1: know you've been waiting. Tony D'Angelo in for Lee Elsie
- 2:15:39Speaker 1: back after this.
- 2:15:40Speaker 51: You know you love me, baby.
- 2:15:43Speaker 13: Still you tell me maybe that someday we'll... On.
- 2:15:47Speaker 6: 94.9 News Now. In Old Lyme, road construction I-95 northbound

- 2:17:58Speaker 60: triple that because Iran would control it and say, you
- 2:18:00Speaker 60: can't touch us. We have a nuclear weapon.
- 2:18:02Speaker 22: Diesel up a penny overnight, setting a new record $ 6. 52

- 2:19:31Speaker 7: It's Hugh Hewitt here with Ken and Nick Tumalo.
- 2:19:33Speaker 14: Host of Tumalo Financial Radio, Sundays on 94.9. Guys, why
- 2:19:38Speaker 14: do taxes get overlooked in retirement planning?
- 2:19:41Speaker 67: Because the tax code is so complicated. You look at it,
- 2:19:44Speaker 67: the 401k is pre-tax money. The Roth is tax-free. Your
- 2:19:47Speaker 67: non-retirement accounts are capital gains, dividends, and interest. Your social
- 2:19:50Speaker 67: security is taxed by provisional income. I'm giving you all
- 2:19:52Speaker 67: these things and you're probably already confused. That's why you
- 2:19:55Speaker 67: want to build out that two-month retirement checkup to see short,
- 2:19:58Speaker 67: first long-term effects on these type of things.
- 2:20:01Speaker 16: Because you never know.
- 2:20:02Speaker 67: You might have been saving well in those 401ks and
- 2:20:04Speaker 67: you might have a required minimum distribution issue at 73
- 2:20:07Speaker 67: or 75, depending on your birth. So you really don't
- 2:20:10Speaker 67: want to look at it just on a one-year basis.
- 2:20:13Speaker 67: Oh yeah, I'm going to do a Roth conversion this year.
- 2:20:14Speaker 67: It's going to take care of everything.
- 2:20:16Speaker 19: No.
- 2:20:17Speaker 67: Planning takes year over year on tax planning. You can't
- 2:20:19Speaker 67: just do it in one year.
- 2:20:21Speaker 18: One of the biggest things that we did find with
- 2:20:23Speaker 18: tax planning, especially for our listeners, was that it has
- 2:20:26Speaker 18: to be done over multiple years to actually gain an advantage.
- 2:20:29Speaker 18: So it's not that simple where you just make one
- 2:20:31Speaker 18: change in one year. A lot of times it's the
- 2:20:33Speaker 18: planning piece of it. And when we do our two-month
- 2:20:36Speaker 18: financial retirement checkup, it actually looks like a big spreadsheet.
- 2:20:39Speaker 20: And it shows the numbers over a whole bunch of years.
- 2:20:41Speaker 18: We like to go out 24, even 30 years at
- 2:20:43Speaker 18: times when we're projecting out. Because if we can pick
- 2:20:46Speaker 18: up on some of these tax things and then start
- 2:20:48Speaker 18: to implement strategies, then what we can do is put
- 2:20:50Speaker 18: in front of you, the listeners, we can put in
- 2:20:52Speaker 18: front of them where they would save money in taxes
- 2:20:54Speaker 18: and how much over time. So it starts with that
- 2:20:56Speaker 18: Tumor Financial Retirement Checkup, our number, 860-854-3434.

- 2:23:32Speaker 1: Good morning, I'm Sean Murphy.
- 2:23:33Speaker 17: Cloudy skies today with a high around 66. Waterford police
- 2:23:37Speaker 17: are investigating a Monday night armed robbery at Best Way
- 2:23:41Speaker 17: Mobile on Boston Post Road. Police said a masked man
- 2:23:45Speaker 17: displayed a knife before fleeing on foot toward New London.
- 2:23:50Speaker 17: Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire inside a home at
- 2:23:53Speaker 17: Outback Stables in Ledger Monday evening. All residents and animals
- 2:23:58Speaker 17: were safe. And the Red Cross was called to assist.
- 2:24:02Speaker 17: New London hired a $ 10, 000 consultant to help relocate its
- 2:24:06Speaker 17: municipal fuel station from beneath the Gold Star Memorial Bridge.
- 2:24:11Speaker 36: To Fort Trumbull. The state requires the.
- 2:24:13Speaker 17: Move before reviewing the city's lease. with relocation costs estimated
- 2:24:19Speaker 17: between $ 250, 000 to $ 500, 000. The Coast Guard Academy will open
- 2:24:24Speaker 17: a new AI center this fall to rapidly develop technology
- 2:24:28Speaker 17: for maritime security and operations. The center aims to produce
- 2:24:33Speaker 17: working software within six months for tasks such as buoy placement,
- 2:24:38Speaker 17: Cutter scheduling and border enforcement. Rhode Island will distribute nearly
- 2:24:43Speaker 17: $ 15 million in federal aid to farmers who suffered at
- 2:24:48Speaker 17: least $ 2, 500 in weather-related losses during 2023 or 2024. Applications
- 2:24:54Speaker 17: are expected to open in early October. I'm Sean Murphy.
- 2:24:59Speaker 17: When news breaks, we break in.
- 2:25:04Speaker 1: It's 94.9 News and Stimulating Talk. Tony D'Angelo in for
- 2:25:08Speaker 1: Lee Elsie. Our final half hour. We are listening to
- 2:25:13Speaker 1: the voice of the fan. I believe our first caller
- 2:25:17Speaker 1: is Jan from East Lyme. Hello, Jan.
- 2:25:21Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 2:25:22Speaker 12: What a great show you have, Tony.
- 2:25:24Speaker 1: Thank you. It's all because of folks like you.
- 2:25:27Speaker 9: Well, you know what?
- 2:25:28Speaker 12: I have a newspaper in front of me, and it's Thursday,
- 2:25:32Speaker 12: March 11, 2021. And Pandemic Profits Spin Through Le Mans
- 2:25:40Speaker 12: Orbit by Lee Elsey. And I know that you were
- 2:25:42Speaker 12: the consultant on that. And also there was an article
- 2:25:47Speaker 12: in the Hartford Courant about Semaphore. Both of them are
- 2:25:51Speaker 12: about Semaphore.
- 2:25:52Speaker 1: Around the same time.
- 2:25:54Speaker 6: What?
- 2:25:54Speaker 1: Around the same time.
- 2:25:56Speaker 12: Yeah, around the same time, right. And Diamante said that
- 2:25:59Speaker 12: he was tipped off by some articles in the media
- 2:26:04Speaker 12: about Semaphore. I thought that your and your partner's role
- 2:26:11Speaker 12: in this should be noted.
- 2:26:15Speaker 36: It was.
- 2:26:16Speaker 1: Actually, if you go back to where that happened, many
- 2:26:20Speaker 1: people have bellied up to the bar to say, I'm
- 2:26:22Speaker 1: the person that did it.
- 2:26:24Speaker 7: Actually.
- 2:26:26Speaker 1: June, and I, you know, what was last night's dinner?
- 2:26:29Speaker 1: Only thing I could tell you, Jan, it was good.
- 2:26:30Speaker 1: I don't remember it. But June 14th, 2020, I was
- 2:26:35Speaker 1: only on Facebook then. I wasn't on Twitter. And Ned
- 2:26:40Speaker 1: coming out saying he was going to save the world,
- 2:26:43Speaker 1: he said, I've got COVID tests and the company doing
- 2:26:46Speaker 1: a December 4, and I'm like, where have I heard that?
- 2:26:49Speaker 1: And it wasn't a tough connection to make. And I thought,
- 2:26:53Speaker 1: my Lord, I mean, did you really do that? Not thinking,
- 2:26:58Speaker 1: are you that clueless? Are you that inept? Are you,
- 2:27:01Speaker 1: and it's like, and then the whole thing started and
- 2:27:05Speaker 1: then there was the firestorm. Other radio stations picked it
- 2:27:08Speaker 1: up and it was, oh, we're going to give the
- 2:27:12Speaker 1: profits to charity. And the thing is, did Semaphore ever
- 2:27:16Speaker 1: have an operating profit? Probably not because there was all
- 2:27:21Speaker 1: sorts of difficulties. We don't know What sort of efficacy
- 2:27:25Speaker 1: the covid tests had, they reorganized. There was a number
- 2:27:29Speaker 1: of lawsuits that I believe are still pending also against
- 2:27:32Speaker 1: the digital currency group. You know, same thing. These were
- 2:27:36Speaker 1: major economic drivers in the state of Connecticut. And it's
- 2:27:40Speaker 1: the whole thing of how can I put it? It's
- 2:27:44Speaker 1: put it aside. Let's move on. And I think to
- 2:27:47Speaker 1: Judge Nazaro's point, it's like, is this the point where
- 2:27:50Speaker 1: it's like where we're finally coming full circle and saying
- 2:27:53Speaker 1: this can't go on anymore? This is just so ridiculous.
- 2:27:56Speaker 1: And so, you know, So many unanswered questions that always
- 2:28:01Speaker 1: come back to the same place, which is June of 2020, Semaphore,
- 2:28:07Speaker 1: the admitted self-dealing. Costa Diamandis in his email said the
- 2:28:13Speaker 1: company was worth billions at IPO. Maybe he was right.
- 2:28:16Speaker 1: I don't think he's a stupid man. But I focus
- 2:28:18Speaker 1: on that $ 66 million, shall we say, sell. from the
- 2:28:25Speaker 1: Lamont family interests. And it's like, you know, enough is
- 2:28:29Speaker 1: enough is enough. And then if you want to say
- 2:28:31Speaker 1: to me, Jan, this is old business, it's like, hey,
- 2:28:34Speaker 1: wait a minute. If it's old business, tell me that
- 2:28:37Speaker 1: these people who are still doing new business aren't going
- 2:28:41Speaker 1: to do the old business in a new time frame.
- 2:28:44Speaker 12: Exactly. And what I wanted to do was that article
- 2:28:48Speaker 12: came out in March of 2021, but I know that
- 2:28:51Speaker 12: you and your partner... have been working on that semaphore
- 2:28:57Speaker 12: subject for much longer than that. And, you know, Diamantis
- 2:29:03Speaker 12: kind of gave you a shout-out for bringing it to
- 2:29:06Speaker 12: his attention, and I wanted to do the same. And
- 2:29:08Speaker 12: I also wanted to say yesterday I was glad the
- 2:29:12Speaker 12: judge brought up Valiotis because you and I were discussing
- 2:29:16Speaker 12: him yesterday.
- 2:29:17Speaker 11: And....
- 2:29:19Speaker 12: You know, my father, although he worked on the Hill,
- 2:29:21Speaker 12: as they say, was still very much a Union supporter.
- 2:29:26Speaker 12: And Valiotis had people, you know, because of his management,
- 2:29:32Speaker 12: they were out on strike constantly. But my question is,
- 2:29:38Speaker 12: Valiotis and Diamantis were both Greek citizens. What are they
- 2:29:42Speaker 12: doing with these huge jobs, especially ones that require, like
- 2:29:47Speaker 12: in Euboea, Security clearance. I know you can't answer that,
- 2:29:52Speaker 12: but I think that's a legitimate question. Why non-white citizens
- 2:29:58Speaker 12: of other countries have jobs that probably belong to an American?
- 2:30:03Speaker 1: Well, you know, and I could hear my eighth grade
- 2:30:06Speaker 1: English teacher in Turner River Junior High School, Miss Barusi,
- 2:30:09Speaker 1: yelling at me, D'Angelo, you're dealing in glittering generalities again.
- 2:30:13Speaker 1: But the When I had a, and this is not,
- 2:30:18Speaker 1: believe me, I have tons and tons of Greek friends
- 2:30:21Speaker 1: going back to Stanford days, but they'd probably snicker at
- 2:30:25Speaker 1: this story. But way, way, way back, I had a
- 2:30:28Speaker 1: Greek estate in New York City. And this was a
- 2:30:31Speaker 1: man whose sister had passed on. And he came in,
- 2:30:36Speaker 1: he said, I'm going to go to Greece and start
- 2:30:38Speaker 1: collecting her properties. And she was a single lady. She
- 2:30:41Speaker 1: worked for Levanus was the second shipping magnate to Onassis.
- 2:30:48Speaker 1: He was Avis to Onassis being Hertz. So he gets
- 2:30:52Speaker 1: over there. Jan, he can't find any property. Everything's been retitled.
- 2:30:58Speaker 1: He's in and out of the courthouse. The judges won't
- 2:31:00Speaker 1: hear his case. And it's like, does he hire Greek counsel?
- 2:31:04Speaker 1: He hires Greek counsel. The Greek counsel goes, look, pal,
- 2:31:07Speaker 1: there ain't no record. Everything's wiped clean. So it's like, again... D'Angelo,
- 2:31:12Speaker 1: do not deal in glittering generalities. True in 1969, true
- 2:31:17Speaker 1: in 2026. But this all said, it does have me
- 2:31:20Speaker 1: somewhat quizzical. Again, all the Greek people out there, don't
- 2:31:24Speaker 1: kill me, please. I love your pizza.
- 2:31:25Speaker 2: Yeah, it has nothing to do with being Greek.
- 2:31:27Speaker 12: It has to do with the fact that it's non-citizen,
- 2:31:31Speaker 12: is my point. You could have been from anywhere.
- 2:31:35Speaker 1: Well, exactly. And our standing joke was, what is Greek probate?
- 2:31:38Speaker 1: Whoever gets there first. Anyway.
- 2:31:42Speaker 28: I don't know.
- 2:31:42Speaker 12: Anything about that, but I think that I do, you know,
- 2:31:47Speaker 12: I criticize the media all the time, but I do
- 2:31:52Speaker 12: give kudos to the day for publishing that article on
- 2:31:57Speaker 12: March 11, 2021, and the Hartford Courant with a follow-up
- 2:32:01Speaker 12: a bit later, and acknowledgement of your work and Lee's work.
- 2:32:08Speaker 1: Well, thank you, and I really do appreciate the calm.
- 2:32:12Speaker 1: Believe it or not, we're starting to wind up as
- 2:32:15Speaker 1: far as time. I think Coach Leo's going to take
- 2:32:17Speaker 1: us to the top. Hey, Leo, how are you, pal?
- 2:32:20Speaker 9: Good morning, Tony.
- 2:32:22Speaker 46: You know, in keeping with— I' ve got myriad subjects I could discuss,
- 2:32:27Speaker 46: but in keeping with corruption and people getting their palms
- 2:32:30Speaker 46: greased and stuff, I see the city of New London—
- 2:32:35Speaker 46: hire a consultant to move some fuel tanks.
- 2:32:40Speaker 2: You know, maybe, I guess.
- 2:32:41Speaker 46: I don't know.
- 2:32:41Speaker 2: But I would think, you know, that's not something you'd
- 2:32:44Speaker 2: have to call NASA in about. You know, you find
- 2:32:48Speaker 2: a suitable place, move them, and we could forego the consultant.
- 2:32:52Speaker 2: But I guess not.
- 2:32:53Speaker 46: Maybe I'm wrong on this one. I don't know.
- 2:32:55Speaker 2: But that seems to be the way of the world now, Tony.
- 2:32:58Speaker 46: You know, we need a.
- 2:33:00Speaker 2: Consultant for this, a consultant for that.
- 2:33:03Speaker 46: Miguel Cardona.
- 2:33:05Speaker 2: Hired by Lamont, right, as a special consultant. What he's consulting,
- 2:33:11Speaker 2: I don't know, but, you know, in terms of education.
- 2:33:15Speaker 2: But it's, you know, it seems to be never-ending. And
- 2:33:20Speaker 2: it was refreshing to hear the judge, you know, reliving some.
- 2:33:23Speaker 46: Of those stories of yesteryear, you know, about some of
- 2:33:26Speaker 46: the antics that used to go on in New London
- 2:33:28Speaker 46: even back then.
- 2:33:30Speaker 1: You know what's funny? In the Costa Diamantis e-mail, He
- 2:33:35Speaker 1: talks about a meeting. I did not focus on this
- 2:33:38Speaker 1: particular part of his discussion, but he talks about a
- 2:33:42Speaker 1: meeting with Miguel Cardona as far as COVID-19. And he
- 2:33:50Speaker 1: says that the— I had a meeting with him, and we
- 2:33:54Speaker 1: were talking about to close or reopen, and the sense
- 2:33:57Speaker 1: you had from Costa walking away from Miguel It was
- 2:34:01Speaker 1: almost like he was shaking his head without shaking his head. Like,
- 2:34:05Speaker 1: we reached no conclusion other than to throw our arms
- 2:34:08Speaker 1: up and say, let the school districts decide. So I
- 2:34:12Speaker 1: just thought his— he didn't get this thing of, well, here's
- 2:34:15Speaker 1: a guy on top of it, and this is what
- 2:34:16Speaker 1: we're going to do. It was— he basically came asking for
- 2:34:20Speaker 1: information and left without it. I thought that was curious.
- 2:34:26Speaker 46: Well, Cardona, his background was he was the superintendent in Wilkerson. Connecticut,
- 2:34:32Speaker 46: before it became the Commission of Education in the state. Now,
- 2:34:36Speaker 46: you know, not to disparage anybody.
- 2:34:39Speaker 2: From Wilkert, but, you know, I don't know if that's
- 2:34:41Speaker 2: one of.
- 2:34:42Speaker 46: The top media centers of the world.
- 2:34:44Speaker 2: You know, I don't think they have the.
- 2:34:46Speaker 46: Daily Planet there or, you know, what their top information
- 2:34:51Speaker 46: is there.
- 2:34:52Speaker 2: But it's, you know, just another one of those things.
- 2:34:54Speaker 46: And I have to point out, Tony, Greenwich, your neighbor.
- 2:34:59Speaker 2: Next door to Stanford, During the whole COVID thing, they
- 2:35:02Speaker 2: kept their schools open, and they.
- 2:35:04Speaker 46: Didn't report any greater increase in, you know, adolescent illnesses
- 2:35:11Speaker 46: than a typical, you know, bad winter when kids would
- 2:35:16Speaker 46: be out with the flu and not feeling well.
- 2:35:19Speaker 1: It's an amazing thing. I mean, I think, you know,
- 2:35:24Speaker 1: I go back to our friend who is the usual
- 2:35:28Speaker 1: host of this show where he said, okay, in the
- 2:35:31Speaker 1: beginning we were all wondering, we were all scared, but
- 2:35:33Speaker 1: we came to a point where it's like, okay, the
- 2:35:37Speaker 1: world's not coming to an end, people are not dropping
- 2:35:39Speaker 1: dead in the streets, enough is enough, damage is being done,
- 2:35:42Speaker 1: let's get back to work. And some states did that,
- 2:35:46Speaker 1: other states and other jurisdictions did not, and the ones
- 2:35:50Speaker 1: that did not to this day, Leo, are still paying
- 2:35:54Speaker 1: a terrible price.
- 2:35:56Speaker 2: They are, and you know, Tony, the other thing, and
- 2:35:58Speaker 2: I'm I really am getting, well, it doesn't.
- 2:36:02Speaker 46: Affect me now because I retired, but when people in
- 2:36:06Speaker 46: the profession would start saying, well, you know, this group
- 2:36:09Speaker 46: of kids has not recovered from COVID. You know what?
- 2:36:13Speaker 2: I mean, you can play that song ad nauseum, and
- 2:36:19Speaker 2: you know something?
- 2:36:20Speaker 46: It's up to us, the teachers. I say this all
- 2:36:22Speaker 46: the time. They're always looking for a scapegoat, the enemy. We,
- 2:36:26Speaker 46: the teachers, have.
- 2:36:28Speaker 2: Seen the enemy, and it's us. You know, it's time
- 2:36:32Speaker 2: to take back control of the classroom, back control of.
- 2:36:35Speaker 46: The schools, and these lily-livered administrators that are from a
- 2:36:40Speaker 46: cookie-cutter mold.
- 2:36:42Speaker 2: That are looking up, you know, what should I do
- 2:36:44Speaker 2: in this situation?
- 2:36:44Speaker 46: Well, we'll go to the book. What's the book say?
- 2:36:47Speaker 19: You know what?
- 2:36:48Speaker 46: Those people shouldn't be in those roles.
- 2:36:50Speaker 2: Life experience has got to teach.
- 2:36:52Speaker 46: You how to be a leader, and some of these
- 2:36:54Speaker 46: people are fine.
- 2:36:57Speaker 1: Well, Leo, thanks. I'm going to jump to Dan from
- 2:37:00Speaker 1: East Hampton at the top. Thank you very much for calling.
- 2:37:02Speaker 1: And we've got Dan from East Hampton. Sorry we don't
- 2:37:04Speaker 1: have a lot of time, pal.
- 2:37:06Speaker 35: That's all right. I'll do my best. I wanted to
- 2:37:09Speaker 35: say the largest block of voters in Connecticut is unaffiliated.
- 2:37:13Speaker 35: Am I right about that?
- 2:37:14Speaker 1: You are certainly correct.
- 2:37:15Speaker 30: Or nearly the largest.
- 2:37:16Speaker 35: I mean, it's like a lopsidedly not Republican or Democrat.
- 2:37:21Speaker 28: It is.
- 2:37:22Speaker 35: It's a mistake.
- 2:37:22Speaker 7: Yeah, right.
- 2:37:24Speaker 35: The mistake that people make is to think that the
- 2:37:28Speaker 35: voter that is unaffiliated... lies between the Connecticut Republicans and
- 2:37:34Speaker 35: the Connecticut Democrats. And that is a terrible mistake. And
- 2:37:38Speaker 35: I'll give you a reason why I have that perspective.
- 2:37:42Speaker 35: I am an unaffiliated, right? I'm an independent conservative. I
- 2:37:46Speaker 35: don't lie between the Democrats and the Republicans. I'm so
- 2:37:51Speaker 35: far to the right of the right and so far
- 2:37:53Speaker 35: to the left of the left that I don't fit
- 2:37:55Speaker 35: anywhere anymore.
- 2:37:56Speaker 1: I understand completely.
- 2:37:58Speaker 32: Yeah.
- 2:37:58Speaker 35: Most of people that are, I mean, a fair number
- 2:38:02Speaker 35: of people listening to this radio station fit that mold.
- 2:38:05Speaker 35: For instance, the judge just on now, the reason why
- 2:38:09Speaker 35: I can't be a Republican is because of just about
- 2:38:13Speaker 35: every single thing that he said from the moment that
- 2:38:15Speaker 35: he opened his mouth. Number one, brown people are not
- 2:38:19Speaker 35: getting shot because they're brown. They're getting shot because they're
- 2:38:23Speaker 35: here illegally in the country, they have deportation orders, and
- 2:38:27Speaker 35: they've been breaking laws, and they're resisting arrest. They're ending
- 2:38:31Speaker 35: up in front of guns. They're using cars to run
- 2:38:34Speaker 35: over officers or attempt to run over officers. And there's
- 2:38:37Speaker 35: people attacking ICE agents. And our leaders, the Democrat side,
- 2:38:42Speaker 35: is demonizing the law enforcement. They're not getting shot because
- 2:38:46Speaker 35: they're brown. That's a ridiculous thing to say. And this
- 2:38:49Speaker 35: is why people like me can't be a Republican, because
- 2:38:53Speaker 35: of that uniparty mentality.
- 2:38:54Speaker 9: The other thing is the cameras.
- 2:38:59Speaker 35: I don't care if it helps law enforcement, man. You
- 2:39:01Speaker 35: cannot turn us into a surveillance police state because it
- 2:39:05Speaker 35: helps law enforcement. That's the exact reason the Fourth Amendment
- 2:39:08Speaker 35: was written. You know? Anyway, I'm sorry.
- 2:39:11Speaker 15: No, no, no.
- 2:39:12Speaker 1: It's perfectly okay. And, I mean, put it this way.
- 2:39:14Speaker 1: We'll have time to discuss this, but it's one of
- 2:39:16Speaker 1: these things we get hot just when we're running out
- 2:39:18Speaker 1: of time. You know, and I'm with you on that
- 2:39:22Speaker 1: whole thing. If I had to leave the Republican Party,
- 2:39:24Speaker 1: because by and large I didn't see a Republican. But
- 2:39:28Speaker 1: it's an amazing thing. We can go on for days
- 2:39:31Speaker 1: and we will. Thanks so much for calling, Dan. 94.9

- 2:43:12Speaker 28: Anyway.
- 2:43:13Speaker 1: Interesting story. Christian girl came home from her date looking
- 2:43:16Speaker 1: expressively sad and said, what's the matter? Her mother said,
- 2:43:20Speaker 1: Nigel's asked me to marry him, says the girl. The
- 2:43:22Speaker 1: mother looks at her daughter in puzzlement. But that's wonderful news.
- 2:43:25Speaker 1: Why are you looking so sad? The girl slumps down
- 2:43:28Speaker 1: and says, because he's an atheist. He doesn't believe in hell. Well,
- 2:43:31Speaker 1: mom said, dear, this is what you do. Marry him anyway.
