- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is Friday.
- 0:15It's the 29th of August and you have done well.
- 0:18You've reached the end of another week.
- 0:21Bully for you, as here we are. And as we do each week on a
- 0:25Friday, we are going to dip our toes into some old school wisdom
- 0:30from God, wrapped up in these beautiful little proverbs
- 0:34delivered to us so that we can contemplate the wisdom of God
- 0:41and maybe have our lives shifted just a little bit toward God's
- 0:45Kingdom and not so much by the folly that the world tells us is
- 0:50truth. And boy, oh boy, done about you.
- 0:53But again and again I get convinced that the world's truth
- 0:56is legitimate. And it's good every Friday to be
- 1:00brought back to the feet of the wise King Solomon to hear his
- 1:04truth. Let us read some more together
- 1:07as we finish off the 15th chapter of Proverbs.
- 1:10Reading Proverbs, 1529 to 33. The Lord is far from the wicked,
- 1:26but he hears the prayers of the righteous.
- 1:31A cheerful look brings joy to the heart.
- 1:34Good news makes for good health. If you listen to constructive
- 1:39criticism, you will be at home among the wise.
- 1:44If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself.
- 1:48But if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.
- 1:54Fear of the Lord teachers wisdom.
- 1:56Humility precedes honour. And again, the Lord is far from
- 2:05the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.
- 2:10A cheerful look brings joy to the heart.
- 2:13Good news makes for good health. If you listen to constructive
- 2:19criticism, you will be at home among the wise.
- 2:25If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself.
- 2:28But if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding.
- 2:34Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom. Humility precedes honour.
- 2:50Our Lord, your proverbs, rich in wisdom, speak so often about
- 2:55hearing constructive criticism, about being open to discipline,
- 2:59and that's how we build this wisdom and understanding.
- 3:04But Lord, here tucked away in that second little proverb, is
- 3:08this little nugget of pure gold that says a cheerful look brings
- 3:14joy to the heart. Good news makes for good health.
- 3:19Ah, Lord, the simple, simple little thing of a cheerful look
- 3:23can bring this profound gift of joy to the heart.
- 3:27And I dare to say that it's not just joy to the heart of those
- 3:31that see that cheerful look, but to the giver of the cheerful
- 3:33look as well. Lord, so often we complicate our
- 3:37lives, complicate the way that we seek satisfaction and peace
- 3:42and contentment. But here Solomon lays it out so
- 3:47clearly. That's something as simple as a
- 3:50cheerful look can bring joy to the heart.
- 3:55Ah, so Lord, I pray that you inspire us with your joy so that
- 4:01we can walk around not with the seriousness and weight of
- 4:03responsibility on our shoulders, but with a levity.
- 4:07A levity that bubbles up and takes our unhappy faces out of
- 4:13that expression into a cheerful look.
- 4:18The cheerful look that says I am loved no matter what, I am saved
- 4:22no matter what, And my future, my future is locked in with all
- 4:27good things. Thank you for this beautiful
- 4:31gift that you give us, and may we respond with cheerful hearts
- 4:36and cheerful looks. Ah, we love you, the God who
- 4:40gives us reason to be cheerful. And we pray all of this in your
- 4:43name, Jesus, Amen.
