- 0:07The Oakland A's faced the Milwaukee Brewers at Cowanee Stadium for a Saturday night game
- 0:11on May 26, 1979. After three straight World Series wins and five trips to the playoffs
- 0:17in the early 1970s, by 1979 the Magic in Oakland was gone. Having lost more than 90 games and
- 0:24gone through five managers in the past three seasons, the A's looked to new manager Jim
- 0:28Marshall to lead the team. Milwaukee was moving in the other direction. They hired George
- 0:32Bamberger as their manager in 1978 and he was able to lead the team to its first season
- 0:37over 500 in franchise history, winning 93 games. This audio recording is from the Milwaukee
- 0:42Radio broadcast featuring announcers Merle Harmon and Bob Euker.
- 0:46So Harry, the first question today comes from John Kudronowicz from Milwaukee. Dear Harry,
- 0:54I am just writing to find out why the Brewers do not have any twine-eyed double hitters
- 0:57on their schedule. Thank you.
- 0:58Well John, we do have one now. It is a make-up with the Detroit Tigers. It will be on the
- 1:04night of July 6th. We will play a twine-eyed. We do not put them in their regular schedule
- 1:09for a couple of reasons. Number one, they are tougher on the ball players. A night schedule
- 1:13is a tough schedule anyway in the long season we have. But to play two games at night is
- 1:16just a little bit tougher on the ball. So we try and stay away for that reason. We are
- 1:19not positive that the fans like them that much either. There is an overlap in that you
- 1:24start before people are off work completely and maybe cannot get out to see the start
- 1:28of it. And then they usually go pretty late into the evening. Sometimes it is too late
- 1:31for people to stay. So you really, unlike an afternoon doubleheader, you really tax the
- 1:34fan a little bit maybe to see all 18 innings. So for those reasons we do not have twine-eyed
- 1:38doubleheaders. We do have two day doubleheaders this year, a Sunday July 8th and a Sunday
- 1:42August 5th.
- 1:43Okay Harry, now questions for Harry Dalton after this. John from the Brewers Radio Network.
- 1:47This is Dick Van Dyke. I wish I could understand that, but I know people who do. They are amateur
- 1:55radio operators and they also know a lot about the technical side of radio. Why do I care?
- 2:01Because I am grateful they exist. Hams provide a huge reservoir of technical talent for our
- 2:06nation in case we need them. This country needed them in a hurry in times of war. Communities
- 2:10need them in times of disasters, you well know. And then as a bonus, these radio amateurs
- 2:15make friends for us all around the world. The amateur service has all kinds of networks
- 2:20like for iBanks and hurricane watches. Lonesome servicemen overseas get to talk to their families
- 2:25by radio. And young and old are welcome to join in. For free information, write the American
- 2:31Radio Relay League, Newington Connecticut 06111. Soon you'll know what this means.
- 2:47Harry, the next question from Dennis Olson and Dave Dussel from Fox City WBLR. And the
- 2:55letter says, Dear Harry, there have been eight unassisted triple plays in major league history.
- 2:58The last man to do it was Washington Senator shortstop Ron Hanson in 1968. Have you ever
- 3:03seen an unassisted triple play? If so, how was it accomplished?
- 3:07No, Merle, I haven't. That's a rare sight. I think Hanson's is the only one that's been
- 3:11made in the big leagues since the 1920s. I think the 37, one of which was in the World
- 3:17Series, incidentally, I think the 37 were all fired in 1930 and Hanson's is the only
- 3:21one in recent history. It seems that we have a man working for us in our plotting system
- 3:25and Johnny Noon, who made an unassisted double play, a triple play I should say, in 1927.
- 3:29He was a pre-taker in those days with the Detroit Tigers. And incidentally, he played
- 3:34with Ty Cobb. And he made an unassisted triple play at first against the Cleveland ball club.
- 3:39And Johnny told me about that two times, but I've never seen one.
- 3:42Okay. If you'd like to quiz Harry Dalton, his mailing address is AskHarryDalton, Milwaukee

- 4:02Oh, great master. I traveled far to seek your wisdom.
- 4:06Close the door. It's cold there.
- 4:08Sir, I crave the meaning of life.
- 4:10How do you earn your bread, my son? Do you kill the soil?
- 4:12No.
- 4:13You send sheep?
- 4:14I'm an advertising, sir.
- 4:15Advertising.
- 4:16Fascinating.
- 4:17Yes, sir. I'm in a big hurry. I have to be in Fiji tomorrow to shoot a television commercial.
- 4:19Fiji?
- 4:20Yes.
- 4:21I'm in a place there that looks exactly like Columbus, Ohio.
- 4:23Why not go to Columbus, Ohio?
- 4:24Look, I'm just here for some wisdom.
- 4:25All right. Let me check my wisdom books.
- 4:27Oh, thank you.
- 4:28Go with radio.
- 4:29What?
- 4:30Looks to me like a fantastic buy.
- 4:31Oh, and it's important with me.
- 4:32This is important. Listen, newspaper cost per thousand is up 99% since 1967.
- 4:36TV is up 90%.
- 4:37Sir?
- 4:38But radio cost is only up 38%.
- 4:3938%.
- 4:40And it says radio's audience is bigger than ever.
- 4:42But what about happiness?
- 4:43Use radio. It's great impact. It applies. You can still afford and you'll be very happy.
- 4:47That's it?
- 4:48Yes. I'm going to close the door real tight.
- 4:50Next time you're talking to an authority on advertising, ask about radio.
- 4:54It's right on the button. A message from the radio advertising bureau.
- 4:57Good evening, everyone. Merle Herman at County Stadium in Milwaukee.
- 5:01It's another nice night for baseball.
- 5:03As the Brewers take on the Oakland A's, we had over 20,000 last night.
- 5:06So that's about 27,000 this evening to see if the Brewers can take the A's in game two.
- 5:11Good rivalry this year. The A's beat the Brewers three out of four on the coach.
- 5:14Now the Brewers are trying to return the favor in the pregame weekend series here.
- 5:18Hope you're on your way to the ballpark right now.
- 5:20Jimmy Slayton will pitch for the Brewers tonight.
- 5:22And our pregame guest is Dave Revering, who will not be in the lineup tonight for the Oakland A's.
- 5:26I'll be back with Dave after this message on the Brewer Radio Network.

- 6:19...
- 6:29Dave Revering, one of the fine ball players on this Oakland ball club, will not be in the lineup tonight
- 6:35because he's got a couple of fingers taped together. What happened, Dave?
- 6:38I've dislocated middle fingers and luckily they weren't broken in the joint.
- 6:42I played against Chicago Thursday night and I didn't notice it until yesterday I guess when I got warm.
- 6:47I went to the hospital and they popped it back in the joint and taped it together.
- 6:50So when will you be back in the lineup?
- 6:52They said five days but I think I'll play tomorrow.
- 6:54You're kidding. I'm going to play tomorrow.
- 6:56Can you handle the glove and everything all right and throw all right and bat all right?
- 6:59I can probably hit all right so I'll probably DH.
- 7:01DH enough?
- 7:02Hey Dave, you were involved in a rather bizarre trade with the Cincinnati Reds and the Oakland A's.
- 7:08Tell us about it.
- 7:09Well I was traded two years ago to Oakland for vital blue and a million dollars
- 7:14and it took three and a half months for them to solve that and finally the commissioner said it wasn't in the best interest of baseball
- 7:20because he didn't know what kind of ball player I was and that's probably understandable since he never saw me play.
- 7:25And it was one week before I was to go to spring training I got traded again to Oakland for Doug Bear who led the National League last year in the ERA
- 7:32and so I made the All-Star team over here so I guess it worked out both ways good.
- 7:35What happened to the million dollars? I didn't get any of that.
- 7:37I didn't get any of that either so I guess Charlie was going to get it all. I don't know.
- 7:40That must have been something though sitting around wondering where do I go to spring training to Florida or to Arizona?
- 7:46Well I had that option too so I couldn't go back to the Meyer League and I was kind of in limbo I guess you know in your 24
- 7:51and you're wondering where you're going to go because I knew I get to play over here every day
- 7:55and over there I knew I wasn't going to get to play every day so I was hoping to come over here.
- 7:58And the way things are going over here now sometimes I wonder if I'm happy to be over here or not.
- 8:02What'd you get in your RBI zone?
- 8:04Yeah luckily you know I'm getting on base. When the guy does get on base like I get one shot at a game
- 8:10and I've been fortunate to knock him in. You know some teams get three or four shots a game where you know they knock a couple in
- 8:15but I've been getting one and luckily I've been knocking him in.
- 8:17How old are you now? I'm 26.
- 8:19Well you've still got a long way to go so who knows what's going to happen in the next three.
- 8:22I just hope you don't have to sit around for three months to find out where you're going though.
- 8:25Well it's June 15th you know coming around and that's the trading deadline and maybe I get traded you never know.
- 8:30You're going to have to come down a little bit though because there's going to be $400,000 involved cash wise for you now.
- 8:35Well I don't get any of that money anyway unfortunately.
- 8:38Dave last weekend you fellows were really up I thought for the Brewers especially after you won that Saturday afternoon game
- 8:46and it looked like you came charged out for the kill on Sunday. Was that your best series of the year so far?
- 8:52Yeah that was. We played good defense and our pitching was good later in the game.
- 8:57You know like 7th, 8th and 9th they came in left handers got the left handers out and the right handers got the right handers out.
- 9:02Whereas last night we used Bob Lacey against the right handers and we didn't fare so well.
- 9:06So yeah when we hit the ball we did everything good you know so I'm hoping we can do that more often.
- 9:11You seem to keep your sense of humor in all this thing that's surrounding the A's.
- 9:14Well yeah well I personally I have to you know if you take everything that happens here in Oakland seriously
- 9:20like people not coming to the ballpark, the Coliseum Leafs, Kelly doing this and so and so it'll drive you crazy.
- 9:26So I just take the attitude that I get paid to play baseball and I come to the park and have a good time and play the game.
- 9:31And you lock everything else out of your mind.
- 9:33Yeah you have to there's no doubt about it you have to. Maybe like in New York or Boston or somewhere where it was going good you could do that but not here.
- 9:38Now Dave as a fellow who really came out of a super class organization the Cincinnati Reds one of the best in baseball
- 9:43I would imagine that some of the younger fellows on this team and here you are at the age of 26 one of the old pros on the team
- 9:49I would imagine some of these young fellows look to you for a lot of leadership.
- 9:52Well you know some of the guys are coming after you by hitting you know some of the pitchers since I've seen them you know for a year or so
- 9:57and I'm still learning some of the pitches myself so I try to help as much as I can but I usually keep my mouth shut and let them come and ask me.
- 10:04You had a good year RBI wise last year. What were you looking at this year?
- 10:09I would imagine I don't know how good of a home run hitter are you first of all?
- 10:13Well I think you have to be a good park to hit home run. This one here is and the one in Oakland is not.
- 10:17But I mean do you call yourself home run hitter or not?
- 10:19Well I'm more of a line drive hitter.
- 10:20Right. Okay now let's go back to the RBI. How many runs can you produce?
- 10:24That depends on the three men in front of me. Now if I get on base say if I get three cracks again and not somebody in second or third base
- 10:30I feel like I can knock one out of three at every time you know. So if that happens I'm sure I can get 80 RBI.
- 10:35So you're telling me you're a better hitter with men on base?
- 10:37Well I know it's a bad habit sometimes nobody on I don't concentrate as much as I should and that's where like an older hitter like Larry Heisler or something
- 10:45he concentrates all the time and sometimes I get lax.
- 10:47You know this word concentration is becoming it would seem that it's becoming more and more important every day in baseball.
- 10:53Well it is because the pitching up there is good you know it's so good that if you go up there and you just sort of you know half half acid sort of speaks
- 11:00they're going to get you out and you have to bear down every time.
- 11:03Back with Dave Reverend after this message on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 11:07I didn't know you were working.
- 11:09Hi Marsha. I've been here about a month.
- 11:12Couldn't be happier.
- 11:13Of course. With your green thumb.
- 11:15It helps being a member of the garden club. All those courses we took on flower arranging.
- 11:19You were so good at it. You're a natural for a florist.
- 11:22That's what job service said. They matched me up with this job.
- 11:25Job service?
- 11:26That's where the good jobs are.
- 11:28You know they actually keep in touch with employers so they know where the good job openings are.
- 11:32Hmm. I've been so tempted sometimes to go back to my fashion buying.
- 11:36You've got a professional at job service to help you.
- 11:39You know I think I will stop here.
- 11:41It doesn't cost a thing for you or the store that hires you.
- 11:45You've got me working already.
- 11:47Oh not quite.
- 11:48But hey I told you on job service but I haven't told you any flowers.
- 11:52roses, mums, carnations for the ladies.
- 11:55Good jobs. Job service. Stop in. Have we got a match for you.
- 11:59Time out for your favorite radio game show the bicycle safety pyramid.
- 12:03I'm your host Bob Strachan.
- 12:05I'll leave you with a guest over in Minnesota. I believe you fellas will go over there.
- 12:08Leave us alone tomorrow will you?
- 12:10Well I'm trying to do my best. I'm going to try to play tomorrow.
- 12:12Well we wish you well. We really do.
- 12:14Good luck to you and thanks for getting here.
- 12:16Okay thank you.
- 12:17Dave Reverend with us. Stay tuned now for George Bamberger coming up next on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 12:29Well I had to fire Horace today.
- 12:31Horace?
- 12:32Third elephant on the list.
- 12:33Oh that's too bad.
- 12:34Told him to pack his trunk and just get out.
- 12:35Really? I thought he was working for peanuts.
- 12:37Well he is but will you see that motorcycle over there?
- 12:39Yeah.
- 12:40I got six elephants ride that cycle three shows a day.
- 12:42All of them wear protective gear.
- 12:43Oh I can see the long sleeve jackets, the boots, the helmets, the long trousers, the whole works.
- 12:47All except for Horace.
- 12:48Oh that's terrible.
- 12:49I can't have that in my show.
- 12:50Of course not.
- 12:51Last Thursday, second show, he comes out with booze on his breast.
- 12:53Fell off the cycle, knocked out the whole first row.
- 12:55I had to give him all a refund before I could see a point.
- 12:57Booze and cycles don't mix.
- 12:58And at the top it all off he's a big show off. He's only been riding three months and he insists on speeding.
- 13:01He almost knocked over Hilda.
- 13:02Hilda the bearded lady.
- 13:03No the one with the tattoo.
- 13:04Oh that one.
- 13:05Well you know no protective gear, drinking, speeding. I can see why you don't want Horace to ride the motorcycle.
- 13:09I'll tell you the truth, I'm getting out of the elephant business altogether.
- 13:13Yeah I know what you mean. This place is turning into a three ring circus.
- 13:15It's driving me bananas.
- 13:16What are you going to get into?
- 13:17Gorillas.
- 13:18A message from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
- 13:23Band restaurant.
- 13:28Merle Harmon again with manager George Bamberger.
- 13:30Hey another close one last night.
- 13:32Yes that was a very good game. That Oakland club plays us tough.
- 13:35They really have a pretty good ball club. Not too much experience.
- 13:37They have a lot of young ball players on it. Good picking staff.
- 13:39So they give us a lot of trouble anyway.
- 13:42So it was a good game for us to win.
- 13:44Mike Harwell settled down. He had a little rough going beginning with ground balls going in here and there.
- 13:49But he settled down and crossed it on a seven thing. Mike that's when he gets tough and we scored a run.
- 13:54And Mike held him and we won three to two.
- 13:56So that's a big tough for us.
- 13:58That's a tough for Mike because it looks like he's back in the groove.
- 14:02The game before his control wasn't what it should be.
- 14:05He had ankle problems so that's kind of foul.
- 14:07So it looks like Mike's back where he was before.
- 14:10A moment ago you talked about early innings for pitchers and sometimes they have trouble and so forth.
- 14:15No it seems to me that all great pitchers like Harwell do have trouble for the first few innings.
- 14:21And the reason why they warm up for 15 minutes for a game.
- 14:24They get themselves in the groove.
- 14:26But there's no hitters up there and it don't count.
- 14:28They're more or less a little more relaxed.
- 14:30And then the game starts they have to do the same thing all over again.
- 14:33They're not sure and over if they aim low they're not sure if the ball's going to go low or high.
- 14:37And they're more or less feeling their way.
- 14:39And one of the great pitchers takes two or three innings to feel their way.
- 14:43And I've seen this with Parham and McNally, Quaia and of course even Serrano seems to have that problem a little bit.
- 14:49We'll be back with George Bamberger after this message on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 14:53The George Bamberger Show is brought to you by Canada Dry.
- 14:56She's gorgeous. What can I say to meet her?
- 14:59I gotta say something different. Cool, witty, sensitive, worldly.
- 15:03Oh wait I got it. Okay here goes.
- 15:05Hi there.
- 15:07Hello.
- 15:08You know every time you mix a drink two thirds of what you put into your glass just makes it out.
- 15:14No kidding.
- 15:15It's that two thirds that makes or breaks the taste of your drink.
- 15:18Oh thank you.
- 15:20That's why more people mix with Canada Dry than any other drink.
- 15:23Oh I know what it is.
- 15:25Canada Dry Club Soda has pinpoint carbonation for long lasting bubbles.
- 15:29Oh that something to remember.
- 15:31Canada Dry Tonic Water is distinctively smooth.
- 15:34How interesting.
- 15:35And Canada Dry Ginger Ale is crisp and dry.
- 15:39Oh sensitive and worldly.
- 15:42Say can I get you to have dinner with me tomorrow night?
- 15:45No. But you can mix me a drink.
- 15:47Since two thirds of your drink is mixed, mix your mixer Canada Dry.
- 15:52Well your right fielder came back with a bang last night and I noticed you've got another lineup change tonight.
- 16:00Right, Cisco did a super job last night cause he's done a super job all year.
- 16:04But that's the type of ball player he is.
- 16:06He's got great power to the opposite field and they threw him a low speed pitch the second time he pulled the header line drive out over the left field fence.
- 16:13And cause he made a great play in a nice setting. That was really a very very important play.
- 16:18But he is one of the finest right fielder in baseball if not the finest.
- 16:22Now lineup changes.
- 16:25Yeah Molotov, I'm resting him tonight.
- 16:28The reason why I'm resting him is we have...
- 16:42Oh he's doing a super job and I think a day or two in there will be good for him.
- 16:47So I feel I'm going to give him a day's rest. I'm going to move again and roll the second base tonight.
- 16:51Jimmy's been doing an outstanding job. I want to keep him in the lineup as much as possible.
- 16:54I want to get all the guys in the lineup as much as possible.
- 16:57Last night Jimmy Wilkins played and he did a super job.
- 17:00He's got two hits, very well put at three.
- 17:02Looks like Coop's in a little slump though.
- 17:04Yes, Coop's in a little bit of slump. Looks like he's pulling off the ball a little bit.
- 17:07But he'll find himself because he's one of the great hands in the American league and there's no doubt about it.
- 17:12He's going to hit three hundred as well.
- 17:13How do you correct when you're pulling off the ball?
- 17:15It's hard to keep talking to the head as you know you're pulling off the ball, pulling off the ball.
- 17:18Keep your head in there.
- 17:19And finally when the time is up go up there and they will keep their head in and make good contact and then they'll be all right.
- 17:24All right George, stay tuned now for the broadcast of tonight's game between the Brewers and the A's coming up next on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 17:30We do not live by bread alone.

- 19:39and to extend their winning streak to five consecutive ball games.
- 19:44We'll be back with a lineup for the batting orders after this message on the Brewer Radio Network.

- 23:41His lifetime arc against Oakland, five wins against 12 losses.

- 25:10Fred Norman got the win, and Don Sutton took the loss.
- 25:15We'll be back with more on tonight's game following this message on the Brewer Radio Network.

- 25:54Pat's Extra Light comes with only 70 calories, and that's good news because that's half the calories of our regular beer.
- 26:00And 30 fewer than the light beer you've probably been drinking.
- 26:03Yet it still has Pat's naturally brewed flavor.
- 26:06Pat's Extra Light, half the calories, all the taste, naturally.
- 26:10Pat's Extra Light, half the calories, all the taste, naturally.
- 26:16["The Great American Theater"]
- 26:20Now on 25 and lost 25 games over the 500 mark, the Oakland A's have won 15 and lost 30, 15 games under the 500 mark.
- 26:30The American League standings look like this.
- 26:33In the Eastern Division, Baltimore was leading starting today's action two and a half games over the second place, Boston Redbacks.
- 26:39The Brewers picked up a half a game last night. Milwaukee now trails Baltimore by four and a half.
- 26:45The Yankees have dropped to five.
- 26:47Detroit trails nine games.
- 26:49Cleveland, nine and one half.
- 26:51And the Toronto Blue Jays at 18. That was starting today's action.
- 26:55In the Western Division, Minnesota held a game and a half lead over the second place, California Angels.
- 27:01California beat the White Sox today, and the Kansas City Royals topped Minnesota.
- 27:05So the Twins now lead second place California by only one half game.
- 27:10Texas is two games back. Kansas City at one and a half. They have moved into third place now.
- 27:17Chicago trails three and a half. Seattle, ten and one half.
- 27:21And the Oakland A's in last place trail 12 games to the front-running Minnesota Twins.
- 27:27The Brewers and the Oakland A's will wind up the series tomorrow afternoon.
- 27:32It'll be right-hander Larry Sorensen going against Steve McAddy in the windup.
- 27:37Then on Monday, the New York Yankees visit County Stadium for a four-game series.
- 27:41Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- 27:45Parts, the Yankees did not get a victory here at County Stadium last year.
- 27:48It ought to be a big series coming up against the New Yorkers starting on Monday.
- 27:54The Brewers being introduced individually now.
- 27:56It's going to be a nice crowd again at County Stadium. The Brewers had 22,000-plus for their game last night.
- 28:03And the crowd tonight appears to be all around 20, 19 to 20,000, maybe a little more.
- 28:09They're still coming in, and there's still plenty of room for you out here.
- 28:14A breeze tonight blowing from left again to our right field.
- 28:17Same kind of wind we had out here last night.
- 28:19Sixth-doll Lescano was the hero in last night's game. He scored all three runs.
- 28:23Thomas knocked in the winner. Lescano with a pair of home runs last night.
- 28:28He walked his last time up and then scored the winning run as the Brewers topped Oakland by a score of 3-2.
- 28:36The A's won three of four plays in Oakland on the Brewers' most recent trip.
- 28:42But the Brewers are on a hot home stand.
- 28:44They beat California three in a row, and they topped Oakland last night.
- 28:48They have now won four straight.
- 28:50Now from County Stadium, the Sheboygan Choir will sing our national anthem.
- 28:55Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
- 29:21What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
- 29:28And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
- 29:57Oh say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
- 30:13Nice job on the national anthem by the Sheboygan Falls High School Choir.
- 30:19Now making their way off the field, and right-hander Jim Slayton trots out to the mound to start his warm-up pitches to catcher Charlie Moore.
- 30:28The Brewers have played red-hot baseball here at County Stadium.
- 30:31They have now won 14 of 18 games played here in Milwaukee.
- 30:36They've also upped their team batting average to a robust 289.
- 30:41The Brewer pitching staff has completed 11 of the 18 games played here.
- 30:46They've also upped their team batting average to a robust 289.
- 30:49And they have won 10.
- 30:51Talking about the Brewer pitching staff, they lead the American League in five departments.
- 30:59Let's see, three departments.
- 31:02The Brewers total five leading categories in the American League in home runs with 55 and walks with 200.
- 31:10The pitching staff has 24 complete games.
- 31:13And only 119 walks have been issued.
- 31:16That's the fewest.
- 31:20So things have been going nicely here at County Stadium, and hopefully the Brewers can continue tonight.
- 31:25As right-hander Jimmy Slayton was really pitched in some tough games his last three times out, the Brewers just haven't scored any runs for him.
- 31:33Slayton has only allowed a total of six runs, but has only won one and lost two in that stretch.
- 31:44But the Brewers have only scored five runs for him in his two losses and one no decision.
- 31:54In the month of May, Jimmy has won one, lost two.
- 31:57In 33 innings, he has only allowed seven runs for an empty 1.91 earned run average.
- 32:06So Slayton's all set to go here in the top half of the first inning.
- 32:09Brewers in the open days in the second of this free game weekend series.
- 32:13Duane Murphy, the center fielder, is all set to lead it off and all set to lead it off with you.
- 32:18Here's Murrow.
- 32:19Thank you, Bob.
- 32:21Duane Murphy hitting a 2.79 has four home runs and nine runs batted in.
- 32:27Larry Murray will follow him and Mitchell Page will be up against Jim Slayton.
- 32:33Now Jimmy starts the pumping motion.
- 32:34Here's the first pitch of the ballgame.
- 32:36He drops a curveball in there for a strike and it's 0-1.
- 32:4056 at County Stadium tonight.
- 32:43Bando is in tight at third in the event of a bunt.
- 32:46Slayton back with the next pitch and it's popped a foul into the upper deck and it's 0-2.
- 32:51Jim Saul is coaching at third base and Lee Walz at first.
- 32:57No balls, two strikes.
- 33:03The A's still have a one-game edge over the Brewers in the season series.
- 33:06Here's a ball with a hard stuff down low, one ball and two strikes.
- 33:11So the Brewers will try to even it up tonight.
- 33:15Murphy hitting out of a close stance.
- 33:18Has one home run against the Brewers staff.
- 33:22Jim kicks, here's the pitch.
- 33:24Popped up in the short left.
- 33:27Under the ball is Robin Yacht, the shortstop, and he takes it for a number one.
- 33:34Next, Larry Murray, the left fielder, riding 162 with five RBI's, no homers.
- 33:42Larry Murray, this guy can really motor in the outfield.
- 33:52He's a switch hitter batting left handed.
- 33:57Bando staying in close at third.
- 34:00Slayton leans in for the sign and Murray steps out of the batter's box.
- 34:03We have time call for a moment.
- 34:05And just like that we're all ready again.
- 34:07Murray hits out of a close stance.
- 34:09And Slayton starts him out with a fastball and rips it in there for a strike way side.
- 34:16The outfield is about straight away.
- 34:18Bob said the wind is blowing toward right tonight.
- 34:20Slayton's pitch, drag butt, he's got to beat it out.
- 34:23Here's a pickup by Gatner and a throw to first, safe.
- 34:26Perfect drag butt.

- 37:459 and 1.
- 37:47Murray getting a lead.
- 37:49And the pitch.
- 37:50He's playing a tap or foul off to the right.
- 37:522 and 2. You know, Bob, he is really getting a lead, but he's not running.
- 37:55He's pretty up there.
- 37:57I'm really surprised at the kind of a lead and the way he's able to get back to first.
- 38:01I mean, the plays are close, but he's getting back to the bag in plenty of time ahead of Sladen's throw.
- 38:05But he's getting about six steps off at first base.
- 38:08He's getting a huge lead against Jimmy.
- 38:10He's getting enough to take off, that's for sure.
- 38:12But he's not going yet.
- 38:13Now the strikes. Murray out there again.
- 38:15There he goes. Here's the pitch.
- 38:16We're going to ground ball to third.
- 38:17Second half played by Bando.
- 38:19On the first inning, it's over.
- 38:21So the A's are down on the first inning.
- 38:23No runs in ahead.
- 38:24And one left.
- 38:25After a half inning, Oakland nothing.
- 38:27And Milwaukee coming to bat on the Brewer Radio Network.

- 38:59Nobody can do it like McDonald's.
- 39:04Nobody, nobody can do it like McDonald's.
- 39:10Nobody can do it like McDonald's can.
- 39:15Everybody can always do it.
- 39:18Nobody can do it like McDonald's can.
- 39:24Nobody else has got the stick of a big man.
- 39:30Nobody has the famous pride of coming back.
- 39:36Nobody deserves to back.
- 39:40Nobody can.
- 39:42You're the reason we do it.
- 39:45Nobody can do it like McDonald's can.
- 39:50Run out and get a Big Mac.
- 39:53Well, in the never-ending Oakland lineup changes,
- 40:01Larry Murray, who was supposed to play left field, is going to play right.
- 40:05Glenn Burke, who is going to play right, is going to play left.
- 40:08But don't be surprised if they move before the first pitch.
- 40:11Rick Langford is on the mound for the A's.
- 40:1427 years old, born in Farmville, Virginia, now lives in Braden in Florida.
- 40:20The A's got him a couple of years ago from the Pittsburgh Pirates,
- 40:23along with five of the players for Phil Garner and Tommy Helms.
- 40:27He appeared in 37 games as a starter and a reliever last year.
- 40:30He won seven and lost 13 for the 3.34 ERA.
- 40:34He's a veteran member of the staff at the ripe old age of 27.
- 40:42Here's Jimmy Gatner, the second baseman.
- 40:47Paul Muller gets the night off tonight.
- 40:49Gatner, five RBIs, no homers, 271 batting average,
- 40:54and the first pitch from Langford is low and inside of all, one and all.
- 40:59Gatner has a five-game hitting streak going.
- 41:03Langford right back with the next pitch.
- 41:05Gatner cuts and hits it off his foot.
- 41:06Bow.
- 41:09One and one.
- 41:16One ball and a strike.
- 41:17Nobody on or out.
- 41:18The Brewers are batting at the bottom of the first.
- 41:20Gatner, in two games last Sunday against Oakland in a double-header,
- 41:24had six hits and eight times up.
- 41:27Langford's pitch.
- 41:28Bouncing ball to the right side.
- 41:30Charged by the second baseman, Edwards, and on the first for out number one.
- 41:35Robin Yacht is next, hitting a 2.37, three homers, 12 RBIs.
- 41:42Yacht's four out of 22 of Oakland pitching.
- 41:50The Brewers are on 14 out of the 18 at home.
- 41:57A win tonight would give them a game picked up on everybody but Baltimore.
- 42:01There's a swinging strike.
- 42:03Another good one to Yacht.
- 42:06The Brewers have had 272 as a team against the A's in the five games they've played.
- 42:13Here's the next pitch.
- 42:14Line drive in the right field, thinking for a base hit.
- 42:17Fielded by Murray, and Yacht will hold with a single.
- 42:22So Robin is on the board, and that'll bring up Cooper.
- 42:24Cooper's down to 301. He's got to get it going.
- 42:27He hasn't been under 300 this year.
- 42:30Eight homers, 33 runs batted in for Cooper.
- 42:41In the last 11 days, he's dropped 24 points.
- 42:48Down in first base, Yacht with a lead.
- 42:51Here comes a pitch by Langford, strike at the knees, 0-1.
- 42:58Talking to George about Cooper tonight.
- 43:01He knows what he's doing wrong, and so does Gorman Thomas, the checker first.
- 43:06Throw over there, the runner is back.
- 43:10Bob and I were talking about it last night.
- 43:11He knows what he's doing wrong, and Harvey Keene keeps reminding him and Thomas,
- 43:16throw to first, Yacht is back with a dive.
- 43:20And he said eventually they'll both get out of it, they're pulling away.
- 43:26So let's see if Coop can correct it tonight and get that bat going again.
- 43:30Throw to first, Yacht is back.
- 43:32No, Bob, I guess every guy in Hawaii knows what he's doing wrong,
- 43:37but sometimes he just can't put it together and do it right again.
- 43:40Cooper's got a bat and takes it low and outside the ball.
- 43:42They can tell you all night, but if you don't feel it, you don't feel it, I guess.
- 43:45I think the big thing with both Cooper and Gorman, though, is just, you know,
- 43:49he's got it in front of everything, especially Gorman Thomas.
- 43:51He's trying to pull everything and he's jumping out in front of pitches.
- 43:55Cooper bunched and it's a foul ball.
- 43:57Essien grabs it, throws to second.
- 43:59Yacht went after a short stop, taking it out of the play.
- 44:03Guerrero, and I think Guerrero took too kindly there, but everything's all right.
- 44:11Getting back to Gorman, the ball he hit last night was a pitch kind of right down the pipe,
- 44:16the ball that he knocked in the winning run with, but he kind of hit it off the end of the bat.
- 44:19I think Gorman's biggest problem at times when he gets into those so-called slumps,
- 44:24he's out in front of everything.
- 44:25He jumps at pitches.
- 44:27You know, sometimes I think Gorman will look for a pitch and if he doesn't get the pitch he's looking for,
- 44:32he'll swing at a pitch anyway.
- 44:34Here's the one-two offering to Cooper and it's down low, away from Essien,
- 44:37over to the railing and down to second, Robin Yacht.
- 44:41And a wild pitch is charged to Langford.
- 44:44And the Brewers have a runner in scoring position.
- 44:46I think Cecil Cooper at times, and I think Cecil would be the first to tell you this,
- 44:51when he's getting into a problem area, Murl, he'll go up there and he'll hit defensively.
- 44:57He'll get a pitch around the outside part, a ball that he can't handle well,
- 45:00I mean a ball that he can't really hit hard, and he'll try to punch the ball to left field.
- 45:04So he's hitting a pitcher's pitch.
- 45:05He doesn't wait for a pitch that he can really handle, and it's a defensive kind of a swing.
- 45:09Now the stretch by Langford.
- 45:11Here's the pitch, Cooper takes it low into the dirt, blocked by Essien, two and two.
- 45:15And you know you're doing it.
- 45:17I mean every time you're up there, I think the biggest problem most hitters have is getting out front.
- 45:21And you know you're out front.
- 45:22You say in the back of your mind you're going to wait, wait, wait, but you're still out front.
- 45:25You don't realize how quick your hands get in front of your body.
- 45:30Cecil Cooper aims that bat right at the pitcher, now levels it.
- 45:33Here's the stretch and the pitch.
- 45:35Come on and foul-tip, and Essien holds on for a strikeout.
- 45:42That was kind of an example of what you were talking about.
- 45:44Well if you remember early in the season when Cooper was hitting so well, Murl,
- 45:47I remember a couple of balls that he hit here at County Stadium.
- 45:50One on a low change-up that he hit to dead center field for a home run in the Baltimore series.
- 45:54That was against Martinez, Dennis Martinez.
- 45:56The next day against Jim Palmer, same kind of a pitch.
- 45:59He hit hard to right center field.
- 46:00That was a change-up that time from Langford, and Cooper was still out front.
- 46:03You know what I mean?
- 46:05But as I said, you go through those periods and all of a sudden you come out of it
- 46:08and you don't know why you were in it in the first place.
- 46:10Nick Davis now out there, takes a ball low and it's one ball and no strikes.
- 46:15Davis hitting 288, has driven in 10 runs and he has three homers.
- 46:21Nick is 5 out of 21 against the A's, but he's hit three homers off them.
- 46:25All solo shots.
- 46:26Here's the pitch by Langford, off speed and it's fouled on the third base side.
- 46:29And it's a ball and a strike.
- 46:30Yonah's second, two down, bottom of the first inning and no score.
- 46:36Davis has hit safely in six of his last seven games, that is, going 11 for 29.
- 46:44If he hits a calculator with that, it'll come out at 379 average-wise.
- 46:48Langford is ready, delivers, off speed, foul on foul back.
- 46:53Stairs a little bit with that one, one ball and two strikes.
- 46:58Lots of groups here again tonight.
- 47:00I know a lot of fans are planning to be here tomorrow for the final game of this series
- 47:03and then staying over Mondays for the first game of the Yankee series.
- 47:07Fans are flocking in here from all over the state,
- 47:09but there's still plenty of room for you for tomorrow and for the entire Yankee series.
- 47:13We'll have good crowds, but absolutely no sell-outs for the Yankee series.
- 47:18Somebody asked me that tonight.
- 47:19No sell-outs for the four Yankee games.
- 47:29Here's the one-two pitch.
- 47:32Foul on a play upstairs.
- 47:36Have a group here tonight.
- 47:37A lot of tailgaters out tonight.
- 47:39They also brought the water to douse the cold.
- 47:41Thank you.
- 47:42And the grass bags to carry away the paper plates and stuff.
- 47:46Groups from Concordia College, Sheboygan and Kohler, and the Conways,
- 47:50all that big tailgate party.
- 47:52Here's the one-two pitch.
- 47:53Struck about swinging. Davis is gone.
- 47:55And the snow runs and they hit one left.
- 47:57After one inning, Oakland nothing, Milwaukee nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 48:01Come on, discovered America.
- 48:03Now I've been up and discovering Jacks.
- 48:05From the prairie to the urban, it's a great hill or a smack.
- 48:08Turn this city family and they won't hold back.
- 48:11There's always been a big, tough guy in the sky.
- 48:15The frozen pizza that tastes like a lady from scratch.
- 48:19Jacks, available at fine food stores everywhere.
- 48:23Jacks origin are the great American pizza.
- 48:32The cheesy like no cherry you have ever seen.
- 48:36The fruity contemporary driving the scene.
- 48:40Chevy's got a chubby, a whole new kind of Chevy with the whole of front wheel drive.
- 48:45This is a Chevy with the whole of front wheel drive.
- 48:50Introducing Cytation, the first Chevy of the 80s,
- 48:53and the first front wheel drive with Chevy behind it.
- 48:55With standard features like rack and chain and steering,
- 48:57four-speed overdrive transmission, front and rear stabilizer bars,
- 49:02radio-plied tires, and a unitized body by Fisher.
- 49:05It's the first Chevy of the 80s.
- 49:08The first Chevy of the 90s.
- 49:12And the new Chevy's finally come back.
- 49:16This is the car you had in mind.
- 49:19The 1980 Chevy Cytation America, drive it now.
- 49:22Chevy Cytation.
- 49:27In the second inning, Wayne Gross will bat first for the A's, hitting a 290.
- 49:31Seven home runs and 23 runs by the N for the big left-handed batter.
- 49:35And Clayton's breaking ball is up there as 1-0.
- 49:40Kansas City beat Minnesota. The Twins are starting to slip.
- 49:43Here's a 1-0 pitch. High again, 2-0.
- 49:49The Angels are now only a half game behind the Twins in the Western Division
- 49:53after the Angels beat the White Sox and Kansas City knocked up Minnesota.
- 49:57Here's ball three, high outside to Gross.
- 50:00Well, let's see if the light's on.
- 50:02Jim Saul sending a sign to the plate.
- 50:05Gross has good power.
- 50:07Three balls for those strikes.
- 50:09Clayton throws.
- 50:11A little bit low, balls.
- 50:13Moore held the post for a minute. He thought it was a fair pitch.
- 50:16So Gross is the first for the walk, number 1 on Clayton.
- 50:19Here's Glenn Burke.
- 50:22Burke was supposed to be the right fielder and Sandy is the left fielder.
- 50:32Burke batting 226. City has two runs batted in.
- 50:40Clayton out of the stretch holding. Here's the pitch.
- 50:43Burke takes a strike at the knees, 0-1.
- 50:49Brewer baseball brought to you by Pabst Blue Ribbon, dear.
- 50:52Here's how you can enjoy a great doubleheader every night just for yourself.
- 50:56A couple of mugs of ice cold Pabst Blue Ribbon.
- 50:59Gross the lead again. Here's the pitch.
- 51:01Burke hits the foul down the right fiel line back into the stands and it's 0-2.
- 51:05Big tailgate party tonight out in front of the center field fence.
- 51:09They must have had about 3,000 out there in this one combined party
- 51:12headed by Donahue's and Derry's and several other pubs around the city.
- 51:20Also a big game from West Bend.
- 51:23Here's the check at first. Down comes the pitch.
- 51:26A little bit low and it's one ball and two strikes.
- 51:28The Oak Lane's from Juneau tailgate party celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the owners.
- 51:34I'm not sure if that's the bowling alley or wedding anniversary.
- 51:38Here's the 1-2 pitch to Burke and he's upstairs for that one, 2-2.
- 51:43And the Big Kelly's massage parlor tailgate party tonight.
- 51:46They had over 300 out there. I think they have about five or six a year.
- 51:53Very nice people. No, they're really not in the massage parlor business.
- 51:57That's a gag name.
- 51:59The stretch, the pitch. Breaking ball hanging high and inside.
- 52:02Slayton, that was ahead of Burke. Now he's behind him, 3-2.
- 52:09Three balls, two strikes. Nobody out. A runner at first.
- 52:15Gross, getting a lead. He's on with a free ride.
- 52:18Jimmy Slayton glances over at the runner and he is on the way.
- 52:21Here's the pitch, 3-2. Broken bat, ground ball off the goal.
- 52:23A glove of Slayton back into a yaut and no play.
- 52:26Had Slayton not touched that ball, yaut would have had a play.
- 52:29But it deflected when sailing off his glove and away from yaut into the hole at short.
- 52:35And yaut kept the ball from going into short left field, which would have allowed Gross to go into third.
- 52:40So it's a base hit, the second of the game.
- 52:43And while Essien comes up, ten seconds for identification.
- 52:46You're on the Brewer, Radio Network.
- 52:48This is the Big 94 from the Door Peninsula, WDOR-FM, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
- 52:54Merlin Bob with you at County Stadium.
- 53:00Big Tim Travada just brought the group list in. He's got a lot of them here tonight.
- 53:05Jim Essien is the batter, hitting a 2-22.
- 53:07Bando has been over the mound to talk to Slayton. There's nobody out.
- 53:10Essien squaring around. He's got a butt.
- 53:13He left the bat out there, but he took the pitch down low ball. It's one and 0.
- 53:17Essien is giving the butt away, which makes you a little suspicious
- 53:22that he might step back and take a whack at it with the infield charging.
- 53:28Now it looks like Essien's going to talk to bat, which means he might mutt.
- 53:33Here's the stretch by Slayton, and the pitch is going to swing away.
- 53:35Takes a strike, a fast ball.
- 53:44One ball and one strike to Essien.
- 53:50Cooper is staying in close at first and Bando at third.
- 53:54Slayton works to the big catcher. Here's the pitch. He's around the bunt again.
- 53:57Takes it high for a ball. And it's two and one.
- 54:02Gross is taking a big jump off second with a pitch, and Yop's getting a little closer to him every time.
- 54:09Two balls to strike. He's cutting in behind him.
- 54:12Gross grabbing a lead again.
- 54:14Slayton delivers. Essien takes inside ball three.
- 54:17Come on, Jimmy. Three balls and a strike.
- 54:25Three and one to Essien.
- 54:28Slayton is digging himself a ditch right here.
- 54:33Now he throws to Essien, and he pops it up.
- 54:36Around the plate, Moore can't find the ball. Somebody's got to help.
- 54:38Here comes Cooper. Here comes Bando. It's going to be Coupe.
- 54:41And the ball rolls right up his heart and he held onto it.
- 54:43Charlie Moore couldn't find the ball.
- 54:45It was right up above him, but when he looked around, he threw his arms out.
- 54:49He couldn't pick the ball up. He could have lost it in the light.
- 54:52But he put his arms out and told everybody, hey, I don't know where it is. I need help.
- 54:57And both Bando and Cooper came down.
- 55:02I think the infield fly rule was on anyway. One out.
- 55:07It was on.
- 55:11One down, two at a board.
- 55:17Here's Guerrero, back of the lineup, after going to Oakland for a physical exam.
- 55:22He's hitting a 2.31 with eight runs batted in.
- 55:31One out, two at a board. Slayton is ready at the belt. Here's the pitch.
- 55:34Breaking ball hangs inside. One and 0.
- 55:36Now Charlie Moore is going to the mound to talk to Slayton.
- 55:39Well, let's see.
- 55:43Lots and lots of groups here this evening, including Brookfield Congregational United Church,
- 55:48Modern Woodman, 28-68,
- 55:51Codricks Bar, J&R's Bar, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and
- 55:55Decephe's Pizza, and Concordia College.
- 55:57We mentioned them. They had a big tailgate party.
- 56:01Guerrero with an open stance. Cox the bat high. Here's the pitch.
- 56:04One on a miss. One and one.
- 56:12One ball and one strike.
- 56:17No score at the top of the second at Cowdy Stadium.
- 56:20Slayton works on Guerrero. Mario fouls it off on the first base side, back into the sand.
- 56:25One and two.
- 56:27Well, you enjoy your tailgate party.
- 56:30Even more when you bring along some Johnsonville Poli sausage.
- 56:37So try some delicious Johnsonville Poli sausage on your next tailgate party.
- 56:45One ball and two strikes to Guerrero.
- 56:48Slayton delivers. Mario, it's a fly ball to center.
- 56:51Backing up is Dorman Thomas, now into Mexico. Tagging a second gross.
- 56:55He's going to hold. The ball comes right into the cutoff man, Robin Young.
- 56:59With two down, Mike Edwards will be up.
- 57:02Batting 2-0-3 with seven runs batted in.
- 57:06No homers.
- 57:17Two down, two on, second inning, no score.
- 57:21Seattle and Texas are underway. Down at Arlington, no score at the end of one.
- 57:28Inside the Phillies, one to one at the end of four.
- 57:32Slayton now works to Edwards, who takes it high for ball one.
- 57:37Cincinnati beat the Dodgers 3-1 this afternoon. Did they have a ball last night in Los Angeles as the Dodgers hammered the Reds?
- 57:47Here's the next pitch. I'll let a play upstairs off to the right.
- 57:52Last night the Dodgers humiliated the Reds 17-6, and the Reds didn't like it a bit.
- 58:03They had two fights out there, one that lasted a long, long time.
- 58:10One ball and a strike. Now time is called as Edwards steps away.
- 58:18Remember Rick Auerbach, the Brewer's shortstop of several years ago?
- 58:22He was right in the middle of that thing.
- 58:25No Rick could get as fired up as that, but he did. These are the Reds, of course.
- 58:32The stretch down and the pitch. Low and outside with a hard stop. Two balls and a strike.
- 58:42Two down and two on to the top of the second.
- 58:51Slayton comes set. Gross elite at second. Checked by Slayton. Here's the pitch.
- 58:56Missed outside and low. Ball three and strike one.
- 59:00Group here tonight from Hartwigs Gobbler. We had a great time out there today. Mike Caldwell, Don Money, Paul Mollider and I. We met a lot of good Brewer fans.
- 59:09Kim Downing is here tonight celebrating her mother's birthday. In fact, the Downing family is here.
- 59:15Three-one pitch popped up on the infield. Coming down is Bando. He's under it.
- 59:20And Sal makes the catch and that'll do it.
- 59:25No runs, one hit, two left. After an inning and a half, Oakland nothing, Milwaukee nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 59:311932, Forney has been known as the top name in arc welding. Forney products offer top quality and performance and are available at GTC Auto Parts in Sturgeon Bay, home of the CarQuest Auto Parts Program.

- 1:00:27Ems Beer Mart and Liquor Store on Jefferson Street in downtown Sturgeon Bay has a good selection of beer, wine and packaged goods.
- 1:00:36See them for your party needs. Let Ems help you with selecting a wine for dinner or that special occasion.
- 1:00:43They have domestic and imported wines in a wide range of sizes and prices.
- 1:00:48Their in-store specials every week can help your budget. They have cakes and beer and pumps and plastic glasses at Ems.
- 1:00:55In the West Bend area.
- 1:00:58Rick Lang for getting ready for the bottom of the second, no score in this game.
- 1:01:02Hey Bob, we met some super kids out at Hartwigs today. The kids from St. Colettos out of Jefferson, Wisconsin.
- 1:01:09Really wonderful young people and great fans.
- 1:01:13They all asked you if they're listening tonight sitting by their radios in Jefferson.
- 1:01:21And they all asked about you. All the gang from St. Colettos.
- 1:01:26Yeah, I'll tell you they're great fans here. They want to know about the pass ball school and you know a few things like that.
- 1:01:36Anybody's a candidate, Murrell, love to have them.
- 1:01:39Here's Ben Ogilvie leading off against Langsford and he takes a mighty cut and doesn't connect.
- 1:01:44Ogilvie hitting a 206, nine homers, 24 runs about at end.
- 1:01:47Ah, we really enjoyed the visit out there today.
- 1:01:50Here's the 0-1 pitch.
- 1:01:52Strikes over the outside corner and Benji didn't like it.
- 1:02:01Ogilvie has had only one hit in the series so far against the A's in three ballgames, one out of 12.
- 1:02:06Langford the right-hander, pump throw, don't speed, drill back to the middle of the center.
- 1:02:11And Ogilvie takes the turn and holds now as Murphy comes up with the ball and gets it back into the infield.
- 1:02:16He came in with a high change-up and Ogilvie went after it about shoulder high and belted it back over second base or hit number two for the Brewers.
- 1:02:25Here's another guy, Bob. I just said to Bob a moment ago between innings, I said I think this guy is throwing more off-feet stuff than he used to throw.
- 1:02:31I don't understand an 0-2 change-up. He just threw a fast ball by Benji and then came with a good breaking ball, a slider around the outside part and threw it.
- 1:02:38Hanging change-up up there. Bad spot for it anyway and Ben ripped that ball back up the middle.
- 1:02:44Here's Loscano. Sixto had two homers last night, eight for the air and he goes after the first pitch and misses strike one.
- 1:02:51And he was going for the down. Loscano is knocked in 31 runs, he's hitting 3-0-5.
- 1:02:59He did safely in 14 of the last 16 ballgames.
- 1:03:03Here's the next pitch. Down low ball. Langford changing speed to last.
- 1:03:13Sixto is now third in the American League, slugging average-wise, 585. Throw the first. Hugg will be his back.
- 1:03:21He's ninth in the league with 31 runs right at end.
- 1:03:27Langford, the right-hander, sets. Here's the pitch. Sixto, it's a bouncing ball foul outside of third. It's a ball that strikes.
- 1:03:38Here's a group here tonight from Bobby's Tavern. The Apostle Church, Valley Park, Inc., Tommy's Cave, the Regal Beloit Corporation has a group here tonight.
- 1:03:53Langford looks over it first, comes down with a pitch. Loscano at the ground ball, a short charge for Guerrero, scoops and throws to second. That's all they'll get.
- 1:04:00Edwards took the throw and got out of the way of Ogleday. Loscano was on with a fielders choice, over to Bando.
- 1:04:05Six-four on the play at second. Bando was hit safely in the last four games, now hitting a 224.
- 1:04:12Three home runs and 13 runs batted in for Bando.
- 1:04:18He's had six hits the last 14 times up, so he started to move up a bit.
- 1:04:24No score. Brewers have a runner at first and one out.
- 1:04:29Rick Langford, a tall right-hander, stretches, holds, delivers. Bando drops a running bun on the third base, and it goes foul with a pop-up.
- 1:04:37Langford charged off the mound trying to grab it.
- 1:04:40Berber baseball brought to you by Chevrolet and your Chevrolet dealers.
- 1:04:44I've been telling you, I've been driving this citation the last week, and it is, boy, it is a great car.
- 1:04:48Best testimony I can give you is my 17-year-old son's opinion of the car.
- 1:04:53Bruce, he went out in the driveway and he came back and he said, boy, Dad, that car is cool.
- 1:04:58He said, it's neat inside. Let's check it first.
- 1:05:05And Langford throws the runner going. He's gone on foul down to the plate.
- 1:05:09Low inside sinker, owing to the count.
- 1:05:12And he said, you know, he said, that car is bigger inside than it looks from the outside.
- 1:05:17And it is, folks, if you haven't driven that citation, whether you're 17 or 79, you're going to love it.
- 1:05:23It's quite a car. See it at your Chevy dealers and test drive it right away.
- 1:05:31The check at first base. Here's the pitch.
- 1:05:33Vandals swung at a bad pitch and he missed it.
- 1:05:35Strike three, reaching.
- 1:05:38Now Gorman Thomas batting 257. He comes up with two downs, one on.
- 1:05:43Drove in the winning run last night, 28 RBI's for the year and 11 homers.
- 1:05:51The last 29 games, Gorman is at 344.
- 1:06:00We are going to have, by the way, a large, large group at a Chevrolet party out here tomorrow.
- 1:06:06Here's a throw to first the runner back.
- 1:06:11Two down.
- 1:06:13Lascano was the base runner, no score, bottom of the first hitting.
- 1:06:18The stretch, here's the pitch. Swung on, foul back, big cut by Thomas.
- 1:06:23So far in May, and this is May 26, the Brewers have won 12 and lost 11.
- 1:06:27In April, they were 13 and 9.
- 1:06:37Two down, runner at first.
- 1:06:43Gorman Thomas steps back into the batter's box.
- 1:06:46Big, strong left fielder from Charleston, South Carolina.
- 1:06:50Langford at the belt throw. Thomas Peltz won the left fielder, just going to hook foul back into the stands.
- 1:06:55Out of Stuttgart, two.
- 1:07:01The Brewers have played only 18 home games out of the 45 that they've been in so far this year.
- 1:07:15And the fans have really inspired them.
- 1:07:19Or the fans have helped them rally and come from behind in some of those games, some real thrillers.
- 1:07:24Langford set for the 0-2 pitch and then straddled to rubber as Lascano gave him a look toward second.
- 1:07:32Newman guards the bag to the base runner.
- 1:07:37Thomas digs in, holds the bat right down to the knob.
- 1:07:41Stretched by Langford, here comes the pitch. Struck him out, swinging with a breaking ball.
- 1:07:46So Thomas is gone, that's a fourth strikeout for Langford.
- 1:07:51And it's no runs and a hit and one loss.
- 1:07:53At the end of two, Oakland nothing, Milwaukee nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 1:08:00It's time to start thinking, seriously, about saving money and where you should save it.

- 1:09:30Okay Merle and Dwayne Murphy will lead it off. He's the Oakland Center Fielder.
- 1:09:34Murphy, Murray and Mitchell Page against right-handed Jim Schleitin.
- 1:09:40Schleitin is running. Here's the pitch to Murphy and he's off the outside corner with a fastball and it's one and nothing on Murphy.
- 1:09:47Heading at 279 with four home runs and he's knocked in nine.
- 1:09:51The 1-0 pitch. Breaking ball is good for a strike in the count even.

- 1:10:19The wind up in the one-two pitch. Here's a pop-up on the infield. Behind second base, Jimmy Gander is calling.

- 1:11:08Schleitin leans in for the sign. The target is up by Moore. Here's the pitch. Strike two called. He got the outside corner.
- 1:11:15Nothing in two.
- 1:11:19The A's nothing. The Brewer is nothing. In the third, the pitch. Loan outside. Fastball from Schleitin.

- 1:12:09Wow, want to send special birthday wishes tonight. Good Brewer fan.
- 1:12:14Willie at the trumpet sitting over there. Couple of boxes over, Murl.
- 1:12:19Marie Selig is celebrating a birthday today. Mugs Selig's mom.
- 1:12:26Here's the pitch to Page, a swing and a pop-up. Mando calling foul territory. He's got it.
- 1:12:33And the inning is over and a happy birthday to Marie Selig. She's only going to have one this year or two.
- 1:12:38Do we give her one or two? One birthday, one birthday, that's it. Yep, you're looking great. Still looking great.
- 1:12:44In the open third, three up and three down. At the end of two and a half innings of play, still scoreless on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 1:12:52It was June 1st, 1925, and the manager of the New York Yankees had sent in a pinch hitter.
- 1:12:57He was fresh to the team, but Lou Gehrig played on for a record of more than 2,000 consecutive games.
- 1:13:03It was Gehrig's first at bat. A truly big moment in baseball.

- 1:14:20In the Brewer's third, it'll be Charlie Moore, Jim Gatner, and Robin Yowd against right-hander Rick Langford, who has allowed two base hits.
- 1:14:28A single by Yowd back in the first and a base hit by Ben Ogilvie leading off in the second.
- 1:14:34I want to say hello to a good Brewer fan hospitalized, Mike Zarnsdorf.
- 1:14:39Got to get him out and get him back out here again. Get him out here for the Yankee Series.
- 1:14:44In and out very quickly. Great Brewer fan hospitalized, and I know he's listening tonight.
- 1:14:49So Mike, get well and get back in a hurry before they leave town.
- 1:14:54Here's a ball hide inside to Moore.
- 1:14:57Charlie hitting at 373. Langford's 1-0 pitch.
- 1:15:00Drilled on one out to the shortstop Guerrero. He made a nice play, tossed to Newman, and that retires Moore.
- 1:15:08One out brings up Jim Gatner, the Brewer's second baseman tonight. Paul Molitor gets a day of rest.
- 1:15:14Gatner at 271. He has a five-game hitting streak alive. First time up, he bounced a second.
- 1:15:23Langford has a sign from Essiam.
- 1:15:26The open right-hander pumps and delivers, and Gatner looks at a strike and it's nothing in one.
- 1:15:33All-in-one to Jim Gatner.
- 1:15:37The one-strike delivery. Jimmy bluffed a bunch, took an overhand curve for a strike.
- 1:15:42He was about two steps from the batter's box on the first-base side.
- 1:15:45Had that pitch been inside, he would have pulled it down the first-base side.
- 1:15:50But it was a breaking ball. Two strikes on Gatner. Langford delivers. Gatner taps foul, and it's still nothing in two.
- 1:16:05Final game of the series tomorrow, Sorensen against Steve McHattie.
- 1:16:12The target up by Essiam, the pitch to Gatner. Jimmy swings and pops it in the short left center.
- 1:16:17Coming on the left fielder, Glenn Burke, he's there. He makes the catch two down.
- 1:16:25Brings up Robin Yost, the short step.
- 1:16:30Gonna tell you that Gatner was red hot against Oakland, starting tonight's game at 7.50 with 6 for 8.
- 1:16:37Six paint-sits in the double-headers last Sunday.
- 1:16:41Here's Robin hitting a 2.30-70. He's homered three times, knocked in 12 runs.
- 1:16:48He's single the right field back in the first inning.
- 1:16:52Langford delivers, and Robin looks lone outside.
- 1:16:57The Brewers have had runners in the first two innings against Langford, but have yet to score.
- 1:17:01The 1-0 pitch to Robin, swing and a miss. Good breaking ball, and he pulled a string on it.
- 1:17:06One and one to Yost. Robin went to second on a wild pitch back in the first inning.
- 1:17:131-1 delivery, bounce toward short. Big hop for Guerrero, Taunce to Newman, and that ends the Brewers' third.
- 1:17:19Easy inning for Langford. Three up, three down at the end of three. Nothing, nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.

- 1:19:02Slayton's Owen pitches hammered to it Robin.
- 1:19:05He's got it. Easy play to Cooper one down.
- 1:19:09It brings up the third baseman Wayne Gross.
- 1:19:14Gross drew a leadoff walk from Slayton back in the second.
- 1:19:18The A's had two on with nobody out, but Slayton pitched out of it.
- 1:19:21He walked Gross, gave up an infield single to Burke, then got Essien, Guerrero, and Edwards to end it.
- 1:19:29Gross at 290, seven home runs, and he has knocked in 23.
- 1:19:35Slayton delivers a fastball hit toward right, cutoff by Gatner on a nice play on to Cooper to Manow.
- 1:19:41Nice play by Jimmy Gatner going to his left to dig that one out from Wayne Gross.
- 1:19:47Here is Glenn Burke.
- 1:19:53Slayton has thrown three pitches here in the fourth and he has two outs.
- 1:19:59Glenn Burke at 226.
- 1:20:09Right-handed batter waiting, Slayton delivers curveball, hits toward the gap in left center, Thomas coming on, it'll drop for a base hit.
- 1:20:16Glenn Burke singles with two and out.
- 1:20:20It'll bring up the catcher, Jim Essien.
- 1:20:31Glenn Burke has hit safely now in five straight games. He's two for two.
- 1:20:35He's on at first for Jim Essien.
- 1:20:39Essien with one home run, eight RBIs, and he is hitting 222.
- 1:20:43The outfield shades him around slightly toward left field.
- 1:20:48He's got the stretch and the pitch. Inside breaking ball missed.
- 1:20:52One and nothing on Essien.
- 1:21:01Jimmy Slayton, glove on knee, leans in for the sign for Moore.
- 1:21:06Burke leads at first the pitch. Essien slings and misses. Good fastball from Slayton.
- 1:21:16Other groups here at County Stadium. Group from McDonald's, AARP and Shamrock, O'Donoghue's Irish Pub.
- 1:21:21The bank is here, the wheelhouse lost Dutchman mind as a group.
- 1:21:26Ball one, strike one, throw to first, Burke's back in time. Conway's is here, Paintrix incorporated,
- 1:21:31Cowley & Son Construction, Raintree Publishing, Shulie Corporation.
- 1:21:37The one-one delivery, Essien takes low to dirt, pops away for Moore. Burke's got a chance to go to third, and he will, and he'll make it standing.
- 1:21:44Cooper retrieves that ball near the Brewer dugout, and Burke winds up at third. So a wild pitch charged to Slayton.
- 1:21:54A runner at third with two outs.
- 1:21:58The pitch was a breaking ball in the dirt. Moore went down to get it.
- 1:22:02The ball popped off his test protector and ended up near the Brewer dugout before Cooper finally retrieved it.
- 1:22:09Burlington Northern freight with a group tonight, National Hardware, NML South American Agency, Standard Electric, Globe Union, V-Day Gang from Concordia College.
- 1:22:19Two balls and a strike to pitch. Essien checked in time on a low breaking ball.
- 1:22:25Playin' one now for the Oakland Catchers.
- 1:22:31The A's about to hit the Brewers, 3-2 in this game.
- 1:22:34Goals, colas. Burke leads at third. Slayton draws the arm back to pitch. Hide inside, Essien's on.
- 1:22:42That's the second walk given up by Slayton, and it brings up the Oakland shortstop, Mario Guerrero.

- 1:24:52In the Brewer fourth inning, Cooper, Davis, and Oglebay against right-hander Rick Langford. Another pictures battle tonight.
- 1:24:59The Brewer's got the victory last night by a score of 3-2. A's have played the Brewer's tough this year.
- 1:25:08Cooper struck out his first time up. His average starting tonight's game at 3-0-1.
- 1:25:14The 0-4-1 has dropped Cooper below the 300 mark for the first time all year long.
- 1:25:19The pitch to him, they said, will change all that. Here's a breaking ball high and outside.
- 1:25:25Cooper with eight home runs. He leads the club at RBI's with 33. The pitch hit in the air in the infield.
- 1:25:31Shark stop, Mario Guerrero. He's got it. One out.
- 1:25:39Here's Dick Davis, a strikeout victim his first time up.
- 1:25:47He's got a D8 hitting a 288. He has hit safely in six of his last seven games.
- 1:25:55Three home runs for Davis. Ten RBI's.
- 1:26:06Langford leans in for the sign. Here's the first pitch to Davis.
- 1:26:11Breaking ball is a strike in the outside corner. Good shot breaking sliders.
- 1:26:16Starting tonight's contest hitting a 238 against Oakland. He was 5 for 21.
- 1:26:23The one strike delivery. A change of this low and outside. Essie in the backhand.
- 1:26:29One ball and one strike.
- 1:26:32Sorensen tomorrow afternoon against Steve McAddy.
- 1:26:37One-one to Davis. Swing and a miss. Another breaking ball by Langford.
- 1:26:41He hasn't thrown too many fastballs tonight. A lot of off-speed stuff.
- 1:26:46And he's been throwing strikes. He shakes off a sign and Davis steps out.
- 1:27:01Now the right-hander is ready. Here's the pitch. Davis. Swing and a miss.
- 1:27:07Kind of an excuse-me job by Davis that time. I didn't want to.
- 1:27:11Second strikeout for Davis. And that is number five in the game for Langford.
- 1:27:19Tumman out. Here's Ben Ogilvie. He has one of the two Brewer base hits.
- 1:27:23He's single and center leading off in the second.
- 1:27:30Langford delivers. Changeup drill deep to right field, but he hooks it foul.
- 1:27:38Now Langford again with a changeup on Ben Ogilvie. His first time up he had Benji nothing and two.
- 1:27:44Two strikes. He came with a changeup and Ben ripped the line drive to center.
- 1:27:49Here's the 0-1 delivery. There's a fastball hitting the air out of play behind the open dugout.
- 1:27:55Two strikes on Ben Ogilvie.
- 1:28:02One of the few fastballs that Langford has thrown tonight, and it was a good one.
- 1:28:12Two strikes on Ben Ogilvie with Tumman out here in the fourth inning.
- 1:28:17Nothing-nothing contest.
- 1:28:21Langford takes off the sign. Now he's ready. Essien sets the target to pitch.
- 1:28:26Low in the dirt, knocked down by Essien. And it's a ball and two strikes.
- 1:28:39Ogilvie, a couple of nights ago, hit his first home run since April 18th.
- 1:28:44A nice dry spell for Benji. The pitch fouled out of play, he had a good shot, fouled it back upstairs.
- 1:28:59He hit that home run in the final game against California in the third inning with two on.
- 1:29:06Ball one and strike two to Ben. Langford delivers. Benji swings and misses.
- 1:29:11Strikeout number six for the Oakland right-handers.
- 1:29:16Free up and free down. Langford has now retired the last ten in a row.
- 1:29:22At the end of four, Oakland nothing, Milwaukee nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 1:29:31A caterer for my daughter's wedding. Dinner for 200 people right after the ceremony in the church hall.
- 1:29:39Because Bertha's finally getting married. And I'd rather be 200 people once than keep feeding Bertha for the rest of her life.
- 1:29:46Wisconsin Telephone.
- 1:29:55Wow, Bob, the Brewer Pepsi fan club has really taken off. Hundreds of kids 16 and younger have already signed up.
- 1:30:00That's right, Merle, and there's still time to join before the May 30th deadline.
- 1:30:04Some kids have found their stores have run out of the membership application.
- 1:30:07So here's what they can do. Just send a letter with your name, address, and age and two labels from any large bottle of Pepsi or the words Pepsi Cola written on a three by five card.
- 1:30:16Send that along with a three dollar check or money order made out to Brewer Pepsi fan club and mail it to Post Office Box 45 Jackson, Wisconsin 53037.
- 1:30:25And don't forget, Bob, they have to include their t-shirt size. Youth is for sizes 1416. Small adult is size 3436.
- 1:30:32Medium adult is size 3840. And large adult is size 4244. Their folks can help them pick out the right size.
- 1:30:39Then they'll get their t-shirt, official membership card, and tickets to five Brewer games.
- 1:30:43What's that address again, Bob?
- 1:30:45Brewer Pepsi fan club, Merle. Post Office Box 45 Jackson, Wisconsin 53037. Have a Pepsi Day!
- 1:30:51Now getting back to Ben Ogleby talking about that home run. It was Vando that hadn't hit a home run. He hit one the other night.
- 1:30:58He hadn't hit the home run since April 18th. Ben's hit a couple since. Hit one in California against Dolan Ryan.
- 1:31:05Time of the fifth year is Merle.
- 1:31:07Thank you, Bob. And Mike Edwards takes a strike over the outside corner. Right handed batting, second baseman who popped up in the second inning.
- 1:31:13Hitting in the number nine spot of the order and he chases a breaking ball outside. He misses.
- 1:31:17But he can prove Duane Murphy to be up next and then Larry Murray.
- 1:31:22No ball, two strikes.
- 1:31:25Slayton right back to the next offering and it's hit foul down the right field line being chased by Cooper but he's not going to get to it.
- 1:31:33Lascano was over and Gantner was over. Ball bouncing up into the crowd. Still 0-2.
- 1:31:38No ball, two strikes.
- 1:31:47Another game to go tomorrow. Larry Sorensen will pitch for the Brewers.
- 1:31:55Larry will be going for his seventh one of the year. Here's the 0-2 pitch outside of all.
- 1:32:06One ball and two strikes.
- 1:32:11Slayton Kipson throws and Edwards fouls this one to the upper deck.
- 1:32:18The Yankees are in here Monday afternoon. Remember it's a 1-30 ball game on Monday Memorial Day.
- 1:32:23Plenty of feasts available for all four Yankee games. Monday, Tuesday night, Wednesday night and Thursday night.
- 1:32:30Well, there's that Kelly's massage parlor gang down the left field line being saluted down the Panagran.
- 1:32:35Here's a 1-2 pitch. Line drive right center headed for the gap. Thomas to run it down. Lascano backhands of all in the gap.
- 1:32:43Edwards feeds the second with a double.
- 1:32:46So Mike Edwards after fouling off several pitches hit a slicer into the gap in the right center away from Thomas.
- 1:32:53And Lascano and Sixto finally made the backhand stop.
- 1:32:58So the A's have a threat going here with a lead-off batter with a double in the fifth.
- 1:33:04Kelly's massage parlor 300 strong.
- 1:33:08Ah, that's a great gang of young people. Young business people.
- 1:33:13Still don't know where they got that name though.
- 1:33:19Here's the stretch by Slake. Murphy waiting. Now the pitch.
- 1:33:24Strike and a breaking stop. And it's nothing in one.
- 1:33:31No score. We're in the fifth inning, game two.
- 1:33:37The A's have outed the Brewers now 4-2.
- 1:33:46Down behind the plate, Charlie Moore gives the side.
- 1:33:49Jimmy check throws. There's a swing and a fly ball. Hit the left down the line.
- 1:33:53Chased by Ogilvie over in foul territory. He's got a shot at it.
- 1:33:56The ball comes back. No, it stayed in foul territory, but he caught it anyway.
- 1:34:00I still think it was a fair ball.
- 1:34:03The ball was...
- 1:34:05...
- 1:34:09...
- 1:34:20One down. Larry Murray the batter. Edwards on second.
- 1:34:26Slayton with the glove's hand down to the left knee, taking a long look at Charlie Moore.
- 1:34:30And now Murray steps out of the box.
- 1:34:38The stretch down. In comes the pitch. Last ball low. What a nose.
- 1:34:43Mike McAddy, who pitched well in relief in the series in Oakland,
- 1:34:47will be the starter tomorrow replacing John Henry Johnson.
- 1:34:52So it'll be the caddy against Sorenson tomorrow.
- 1:34:57One ball, no strikes.
- 1:35:01The target up by Charlie Moore. Here's the pitch. Down low into the third block by Moore.
- 1:35:05And the throw to second. They may have a play. Oh, they just missed it.
- 1:35:09Mike Edwards is a little late getting back and Moore gunned the throw to Yelp.
- 1:35:13The throw was back on the third base side of second and Robin had to lean back to get it.
- 1:35:17Had the throw been right on the back, Edwards would have been out. And red face.
- 1:35:26Two balls and no strikes.
- 1:35:32Now Jimmy is set. The right arm back and here's the pitch.
- 1:35:36There's a bouncing ball to the first base side. They gotta hurry.
- 1:35:38Slayton picks it up, tags the runner going by for the out and Edwards goes on to third.
- 1:35:46Had Cooper had to feel that ball, I think Murray would have gone by him and been safe at first.
- 1:35:52So Slayton charged over there and made the glove hand pick up and stepped over for the tag.
- 1:35:56Here's Page. Mitchell twice to foul the bandos.
- 1:36:07Two down, a runner at third.
- 1:36:13Slayton looks over there, Wines and delivers to Page inside of all.
- 1:36:20The A's twice have had a runner at third. They had Burke over there in the fourth inning.
- 1:36:24He had Singles and then Slayton Wild pitched him to third.
- 1:36:28Edwards now over there with two down. Here's the pitch to Page. There's a drive in the center field.
- 1:36:32Thomas back and makes the catch. Ball hit like a bullet.
- 1:36:37So that will do it for the A's in the fifth inning. No runs and a hit and one left.
- 1:36:42After four and a half, Oakland nothing, Milwaukee nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 1:36:46Brewer fans, Gibson's and Sturgeon Bay is a sporting goods to keep you in shape and for enjoyment.
- 1:36:50Gibson's has volleyball sets at 747 and 1197, DeLuxe badminton sets at 1497, life best at 467, and Stern's life best at 1988.

- 1:38:48Langford right back with the next pitch. Tixdell with the bouncing ball to short.
- 1:38:52And Guerrero feels, throws the first. Good play, and he got him.

- 1:40:04The Brewers have had two baserunners.
- 1:40:08One strike to Cowd, no score, bottom of the fifth.
- 1:40:12Langford down with the next pitch.
- 1:40:13There's a drive to left field, but he didn't get enough of it.
- 1:40:16Right off the end of the bat.
- 1:40:17Under the ball is Burke, and it's another easy inning for Langford.
- 1:40:21He has retired 12 in a row since Ogilvy's single in the second inning.
- 1:40:26Nothing to cross.
- 1:40:28At the end of five, Oakland nothing, Milwaukee nothing on the Brewer, Radio, and Edwards.

- 1:42:05Jeff Newman leading off for the A's.
- 1:42:06We're in the sixth inning of the scoreless game.
- 1:42:08Newman is 0-2 having grounded out twice.
- 1:42:11Jim Slayton has given up four hits and two walks.
- 1:42:15Rick Langford has been very stingy.
- 1:42:18Jeff pitch to Newman is low on balls.
- 1:42:20He has struck out six Langford A's, no walks and two hits.
- 1:42:27Slayton throws to Newman.
- 1:42:29Jeff checks to the tie and away.
- 1:42:30Ball two and no strikes.
- 1:42:34Rural baseball being brought to you by Mott's Paint and your Mott's Paint dealer.
- 1:42:41To old pitch, Newman tops it up outside a first distance play.
- 1:42:44A little Schupper's over on the track near the dugout.
- 1:42:47He's got it, run away.
- 1:42:52Newman has fouled a first.
- 1:42:54Here's Wayne Gross with a walk and a ground ball.
- 1:42:59See your Mott's dealer, the old painting season's here you know.
- 1:43:02Before you go out and just start buying all kinds of paint and so forth,
- 1:43:06go ahead and talk to your Mott's dealer and tell him how much surface you have to cover.
- 1:43:09He'll give you an idea on how to save some money on paint.
- 1:43:12Here's a ball on the inside.
- 1:43:14What a little count.
- 1:43:16All of us have a tendency to try to buy too much or use too much,
- 1:43:19and he'll help you figure out exactly what you need.
- 1:43:22Here's the 1-0 pitch.
- 1:43:23Gross hits the ground ball to right field.
- 1:43:25Oh, almost a save there by Gantner with a headlong dive, but he couldn't get it.
- 1:43:29So Gross is on with a single.
- 1:43:31He is one for two.
- 1:43:33That is hit number five for Oakland.
- 1:43:35And up comes Glenn Burke, who is two for two.
- 1:43:42The Phantom is out this weekend painting the stripes down the middle of the interstate in North Dakota.
- 1:43:52Good weekend for the Phantom to do that.
- 1:43:59One out, one on.
- 1:44:00We're in the sixth.
- 1:44:03Slayton to Glantz at first.
- 1:44:04There goes the runner.
- 1:44:05Here's the pitch.
- 1:44:06And a bunt on the third base side is going to be fielded by Charlie Moore.
- 1:44:08Throw to first.
- 1:44:09He got him.
- 1:44:10Oh, what a play by Cooper, though.
- 1:44:12Moore slipped as he was throwing the ball.
- 1:44:15He threw that ball from down around his knees.
- 1:44:17His sidearm throw to first.
- 1:44:19And he threw that ball right at Cooper's shoe tops, and the runner was going by in a good play by Cooper and by Charlie.
- 1:44:26So a sacrifice, sending Gross to second.
- 1:44:29And here is Jim Essien with a pop-up and a walk.
- 1:44:38Big Jim Essien, the catcher.
- 1:44:44Two down.
- 1:44:48A stretch by Slayton.
- 1:44:49In comes the pitch.
- 1:44:50Essien takes the strike.
- 1:44:52Waist high at the inside corner.
- 1:44:55No balls and a strike.
- 1:45:03Now the target is set down at second a lead by Gross.
- 1:45:09And Slayton delivers.
- 1:45:10Strike to the outside corner.
- 1:45:12He moves it to the other side of the play.
- 1:45:16No balls, two strikes.
- 1:45:18Texas has taken a 2-1 lead over Seattle at the end of five.
- 1:45:23This is the only other game going at the American League tonight.
- 1:45:25Everything else was played this afternoon.
- 1:45:27The Orioles won an extra inning to Detroit.
- 1:45:31Here's the pitch to Essien.
- 1:45:32A shot to the outside corner and he missed it.
- 1:45:34And Essien wouldn't chase it either.
- 1:45:36One ball, two strikes.
- 1:45:40Chirado beat the Red Sox 7-6.
- 1:45:43And the Indians sent Tommy John down to defeat for the first time this year,
- 1:45:46beating the Yankees 8-4.
- 1:45:48John is now 9-1.
- 1:45:52Slayton wants more to start with a sign.
- 1:45:55Gross on second and two down.
- 1:45:58One ball and two strikes to Essien.
- 1:46:01Slayton to the belt.
- 1:46:03Lead at second by Gross.
- 1:46:04Here's the pitch.
- 1:46:05Strike three, call.
- 1:46:06Fast ball to the outside corner and Essien knew it.
- 1:46:10So Slayton nails Essien.
- 1:46:11No runs and he isn't one left.
- 1:46:13After five and a half, hopefully nothing, Milwaukee nothing on the Brewer or radio and at worst.

- 1:47:50Charlie grounded out down in the third inning.
- 1:47:53You'll be followed by Gantner and then Yon.
- 1:47:55Well, maybe this will be the inning.
- 1:47:57The Brewers have gone down in order the last three innings,
- 1:47:59and now 12-0 Sturgeon Bay single at the second inning.
- 1:48:03Rick Langford getting ready.
- 1:48:08Here's the wind-up, down comes the pitch.
- 1:48:11High curve for a ball, one and all to Moore.
- 1:48:13Here we go, come on gang, let's get it going now.
- 1:48:15What do you say?
- 1:48:18A wind-up with a one-oh pitch.
- 1:48:20He got it over a curve, he got it over a strike, one and one.
- 1:48:26One ball and one strike.
- 1:48:28Crowd's starting to come alive.
- 1:48:30The Brewers can get a base hit, they'll explode.
- 1:48:32Here's the wind-up, one-one pitch.
- 1:48:34Strike two, a fast ball.

- 1:49:23Langford, the wind-up, and a one-two pitch.
- 1:49:26Breaking ball, hammered a third foul outside the bag, backhand by Gross.
- 1:49:34Jim Gantner is waiting in the on-dick area.
- 1:49:37Tomorrow, Larry Sorensen goes for his seventh win of the year against Mike McCaddy of Oakland.
- 1:49:48One ball, two strikes.
- 1:49:52Langford tries again.
- 1:49:53The pitch, foul back, he's got a piece of it.
- 1:49:56One and two.
- 1:50:05Well, Frank's getting them going now.
- 1:50:12Bill Travers has slated open the Yankee Series on Monday.
- 1:50:18One ball, two strikes.
- 1:50:20Langford to the wind, here's the pitch.
- 1:50:22Up high a ball.
- 1:50:23Two and two.
- 1:50:24Langford has not rocked anybody.
- 1:50:26He has struck out six, and he has given up only two bases.
- 1:50:29No Brewer runner has moved past second, and only one got that far, Yost, back in the first inning.
- 1:50:35Here's the pitch. Change up, popped up.
- 1:50:37Over to third base side, near the stands, and into the stands.
- 1:50:41Two and two.
- 1:50:45Fun run, fun run, fun run at County Stadium.

- 1:51:08A 20-episode, four-in-one game two. Brewer's early on the road, so you might drag it through.
- 1:51:29Here at the stadium.
- 1:51:34There's a big finish line, ought to be something. They're going to really spruce that up.
- 1:51:38Charlie Moore, go get a new bat. Now he's ready. Two-two pitch. Bow back into the net.
- 1:51:43All runners receive a polyskin windbreaker jacket, a lower grandstand ticket, an official certificate of participation on a traditional eye-finished patch.
- 1:51:54Seven-fifty entry fee. Here's the pitch. Down low, now it's three and two.
- 1:52:01You also get a reserved lower grandstand ticket for the ballgame today.
- 1:52:06Brewers and Kansas City. Pay off pitch three and two.
- 1:52:09Bouncing ball to short, Guerrero scoops, and over to first base, Moore is out by stuff.
- 1:52:16Langford has been tough, so has Slayton.
- 1:52:20Now Jimmy Gatner, who's grounded on fly to left. He's got a five-game hitting streak on the line.
- 1:52:32Left-handed batting Jim Gatner, giving Paul Molliger a night off.
- 1:52:39The Brewers have a long string of ballgames. Here comes a pitch to Gatner.
- 1:52:42Line drive, left center of base, over to cut it off at Burke, and Gatner will hold with a single.
- 1:52:48So Gatner has hit safely in sixth-grade game.
- 1:52:58He's had seven hits and eleven times up now against Oakland.
- 1:53:03Robin Yacht has one of the three base hits. A single in the first inning, then he grounded out in the third.
- 1:53:19Gatner at first, there's Strutch, and here's the pitch. Robin on the check swing. Did he hold it back? Nope.
- 1:53:26First baseman Jerry Newdecker calls it. Strike line.
- 1:53:31The Brewers will not have an off day until June 11th, and their last off day was May 21st, last Monday.
- 1:53:46One strike to Yacht. Gatner at first for the lead, check by Langford. Here's the pitch, pitch on.
- 1:53:52But Gatner's holding.
- 1:53:56The A's are guessing the Brewers might do some running to try to get something started in this scoreless game.
- 1:54:01The right side of the infield is open. Robin can really handle the bat.
- 1:54:05First baseman Newman is guarding the bag.
- 1:54:09Edwards is going to shade a little more now toward first base to try to cut that gap down.
- 1:54:14Here's the one-one pitch to run a going. Swing of the drive, left field, he hit it through short. A base hit.
- 1:54:19Gatner trying to go to third. Here's the throw, the slide. Safe.
- 1:54:24But the third couldn't get Gatner, who took a belly slide into third, and he made it.
- 1:54:30Well, the Brewers execute the hit and run.
- 1:54:33The short stop, Guerrero was going to cover at second base.
- 1:54:38Edwards had just cheated a little bit toward first. And Guerrero made a break for second.
- 1:54:45And Robin hit the ball over short and into left field. I don't think Guerrero could have caught it anyway, for that matter.
- 1:54:50But he hit the ball to the open spot.
- 1:54:55Runners at first and third for Cooper.
- 1:54:58This is the first threat the Brewers have had tonight.
- 1:55:01First time they've had a runner at third base. No score. Bottom of the sixth.
- 1:55:06Brewers have four hits, two of them back to back right here.
- 1:55:11Cooper has struck out and popped up. One out. No score.
- 1:55:15SCN with a sign. Rick Langford working off the stretch. Runners at first and third lead.
- 1:55:21And here's the pitch to Cooper. Drive to right field. It's hooking. It is going.
- 1:55:27FIRE! Home run for Cooper.
- 1:55:30It hooks around the foul pole. A three-run hole for Cecil Cooper.
- 1:55:34And the Brewers take a three-to-nothing lead.
- 1:55:38Cooper with his ninth home run of the year. And he has 36 runs batted in.
- 1:55:43Listen to the crowd for Coop, Coop, Coop.
- 1:55:50Well, the Brewers break the ice. A standing ovation for the Brewers.
- 1:55:55As Gatner and Yout and Cooper head for the dugout.
- 1:55:59After Coop touches the ball.
- 1:56:02Now he hit that ball like the old Cooper. He really got into it.
- 1:56:09Here's Dick Davis with two strikeouts. Three to nothing Milwaukee in the bottom of the sixth.
- 1:56:16The 56th home run of the year for the Bombers.
- 1:56:20And the first pitch to Davis is down low for ball one.
- 1:56:28One out. May as well keep it going. The line by Langford. Here's the pitch.
- 1:56:32Outside, 2-0. Lacey is getting ready in the bullpen for Oakland.
- 1:56:40Cooper hit that ball inside the foul pole. I believe over the bleachers into the runway.
- 1:56:45Over the grandstand rather into the runway. Here's the strike calls.
- 1:56:48Two to one. He didn't hit one over the bleachers. Nobody else has either.
- 1:56:54Two-one pitch. Change up. Drill the left foot foul into the stands. Look out down there in the Kelly group.
- 1:57:01Two balls and two strikes.
- 1:57:16Well after more grounded outs, Gatner and Yost single and Cooper pump the homer to two pitch.
- 1:57:21And Davis both one deep to the field. There she goes. It is gone.
- 1:57:26Nick Davis is fourth home run of the year against the Oakland A's.
- 1:57:32And the Brewers lead 4-0 because Davis touches the ball.
- 1:57:39So Nick Davis gets a royal walk and then he comes into the dugout.
- 1:57:45And Jim Marshall is on his way to the mound.
- 1:57:50Davis hits that ball way back in the bleachers and left field.
- 1:57:54It is the lucky fours. Oakland nothing.
- 1:57:58And you often wonder what happens to a pitcher like this Bob.
- 1:58:01He's going along. He's got a two hitter. He's got the Brewers eating out of his hands.
- 1:58:05He is now leaving the game after retiring 13 in a row.
- 1:58:08Gatner and Yost single. Cooper and Davis at home. And he's gone.
- 1:58:12I know most of the pitches that were hit for home runs were over up.
- 1:58:15The pitch on Cooper was up around the letter.
- 1:58:17And the ball that Davis hit I believe was a hanging slider up around the way.
- 1:58:21Both of them were hit a ton as the Brewers take a 4-0 lead.
- 1:58:27And Bob Lacy will come on to pitch for Oakland here in the sixth inning.
- 1:58:32Lacy is making his 25th appearance of the year.
- 1:58:36He has a victory against two losses.
- 1:58:39He carries a 4.15 earned run average with three saves.
- 1:58:44He has pitched 30 in one third inning.
- 1:58:47He has 42 hits, 17 runs, 14 earned.
- 1:58:51Given up three home runs, walked 11 and struck out 22.
- 1:58:57The two home runs hit here in the Brewers sixth inning.
- 1:59:01Numbers 48 and 49 against the Oakland Stamps.
- 1:59:08The Brewers will lead the American League in home runs with 57.
- 1:59:12Strike quickly here in the sixth inning.
- 1:59:15Langford had a two-hit shutout.
- 1:59:18Going into the sixth inning, as Merle said, base hit by Gantner, hit run single by Robbin.
- 1:59:26And a three-run blast by Cooper to solo shot by Davis.
- 1:59:29And very quickly, it's 4-0.
- 1:59:32So Bob Lacy, who was in the ball game last night, is down in relief for the A's.
- 1:59:37He came out in the seventh inning.
- 1:59:39And in an inning in the third, he gave up one run and three hits.
- 1:59:44And he was charged with a loss last night.
- 1:59:50So Lacy, the tall lefty, will be facing Finn Oglebay.
- 1:59:55Benji has struck out and has singles.
- 2:00:01Well, all of a sudden, a key hit like that can do a lot for a guy's confidence, Bob,
- 2:00:05so any coop can get straightened out and get her going.
- 2:00:08We talked earlier, Merle, about Cooper, you know, hitting defensively,
- 2:00:12trying to hit balls to the opposite field.
- 2:00:15You know, when you're ahead in the count or even the first strike you get,
- 2:00:18I think Cooper went up there that time, made up his mind to look for a pitch inside
- 2:00:22and was going to have a good rip. He didn't, he hit the home run.
- 2:00:26Here's Oglebay now against left-hander Bob Lacy.
- 2:00:29The Brewers lead it, four to nothing.
- 2:00:30Suddenly, they have out hit the A's, six to five.
- 2:00:33Four straight hits, two singles and two homers.
- 2:00:41This is the 46th game of the year.
- 2:00:44Bambi's Bombers have unloaded 57 homers already.
- 2:00:47Here's the first pitch to Oglebay.
- 2:00:49It's a fly ball to short left.
- 2:00:50Coming hard is Glenn Bergen. He's going to make the catch and does.
- 2:00:55Next, Fluscano, six to zero for two tonight.
- 2:00:58Do you like this guy, Bob Lacy?
- 2:01:01Yeah, yeah, I do.
- 2:01:03You hear a lot of talk about him.
- 2:01:05Yeah, I liked him last year. He kind of impressed me last year.
- 2:01:08And the ball games that he has pitched against Milwaukee so far this year,
- 2:01:11he's throwing the ball well. He's pitched well.
- 2:01:13He's took a loss, as you said last night, but he appears to have a good fastball,
- 2:01:17good breaking stuff, and he's got a good location.
- 2:01:19He's got a good idea on what he's trying to do.
- 2:01:21Here's the first pitch to Luscano, and it's upstairs for a ball, one and oh.
- 2:01:24I'm looking at his fastball, too, but I guess you could say that about every left-hander.
- 2:01:28He's got a good moving fastball. His fastball runs good.
- 2:01:32Now Lacy pumps and throws to six to oh.
- 2:01:34Look out, low it inside the ball, two and oh.
- 2:01:40Well, there's the general feeling around the A's.
- 2:01:43Charlie Finley has been so quiet in the last two or three weeks,
- 2:01:46they haven't heard from him, but everybody's kind of thinking,
- 2:01:49before June 15th, something will be done.
- 2:01:51Here's the ground ball to right fielder, base hit for Luscano, and six to oh is aboard.
- 2:01:57That'll bring up Bandol, who is 0 for 2 tonight.
- 2:02:01They talk about trades, and they talk about the trading deadline and what might happen,
- 2:02:06but most of the guys down in that Oakland dugout are looking for something to happen
- 2:02:11prior to the trading deadline on the 15th and saying, will it be me?
- 2:02:16Here's the check. Down comes the pitch by Lacy, outside and high with a fastball, one and oh.
- 2:02:23One ball to no strikes, two down and one on.
- 2:02:25Brewers lead four to nothing in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- 2:02:28Lacy Asset throws, swung on and missed on a sharp breaking curveball, one and one.
- 2:02:37That one had a little bite to it.
- 2:02:40Here's the one-one pitch, swung on and missed, another one, one and two.
- 2:02:47One ball and two strikes to Bandol.
- 2:02:51In the eighth inning in Texas, the Rangers two and Seattle one.
- 2:02:56Lacy throws to Bandol, struck him out swinging, and that'll do it.
- 2:03:00So here in the sixth, four runs, four hits, and one left, five hits rather, and one left on.
- 2:03:07At the end of the sixth inning, the Brewers four, the A's outing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 2:03:12Are you still afraid of the dark, afraid of what it might have in store for you?
- 2:03:18Come, you don't have to be afraid anymore.
- 2:03:21Try Pat's Special Doc, the Niter Dog Beer.

- 2:04:37Dixoning totals, Brewers, four runs, seven hits, no errors, Oakland, no runs, five hits, no errors.
- 2:04:42Now to the seventh, and here's Bob. Okay, Merle, and Mario Guerrero leads it off here in the Oakland seventh inning.
- 2:04:48Brewers hit them very quickly for four in the sixth.
- 2:04:53Slayton all set to work to Mario Guerrero, the wind up in the pitch.
- 2:04:56Guerrero looks at his strike and it's 0-1-1.
- 2:05:00The Oakland shortstop has flied to center and popped his short.
- 2:05:04Nothing in two trips. Slayton's 0-1 delivery, fastball, hit in the air to short right.
- 2:05:09Easy play for Lascano, waiting, he's got it one down.
- 2:05:19It brings up the second baseman, Mike Edwards.
- 2:05:27Edwards has one of the five base hits off Slayton. He doubled his last time up in the fifth inning.
- 2:05:33Right-headed batter, Brewers lead, 4-0. Three run homer by Cooper and a solo shot by Davis.
- 2:05:39Breaking ball is good for a strike, 0-1-1.
- 2:05:43The Blues after their fifth win in a row and their 26th of the year.
- 2:05:49The wind up and the 0-1 pitch to Edwards. Line drive over Gatner's head toward right center.
- 2:05:54Chased down by Lascano. He bottled the ball for a moment, but he'll hold Edwards to a long single.
- 2:05:59Same play by Sixtho. He bottled that ball momentarily.
- 2:06:05Edwards had ideas, but Lascano threw a bullet to Robin at second to hold him at first.
- 2:06:11Ball Edwards is two for three. And it brings up the leadoff batter, Duane Murphy.
- 2:06:22Murphy has popped his short, popped to second, and flied to left field. He's nothing for three.
- 2:06:27Lascano comes up close at third. The pitch to Murphy, breaking ball of beauty, dropped it up and he's nothing in one.
- 2:06:37Jim Slayton after his fourth win of the year and his sixth lifetime victory against Oakland,
- 2:06:43delivers to Murphy low and inside. He came right back with an overhand curve.
- 2:06:51Slayton has had a tough time through the month of May. He's 1-1, lost two.
- 2:06:55He's only allowed seven earned runs over that period.
- 2:06:591-1 pitch to him. Low in the dirt, gets by more. Edwards will go to second.
- 2:07:03And a wild pitch will be charged to Slayton.
- 2:07:09Runner at second with one out.
- 2:07:20Slayton started four times in the month of May. The Brewers have only managed five runs for him starting tonight's game.
- 2:07:30They almost got more in one inning tonight than they did in four previous starts, swinging a foul back by Murphy.
- 2:07:36Ball to him, strike two. Jimmy Slayton is second in the American League in the earned run average department.
- 2:07:43The
- 2:07:46Yankees and Tommy John beaten today by Cleveland.
- 2:07:54John took his first loss of the year against nine victories.
- 2:07:588-4 Cleveland.
- 2:08:02Edwards leads at second. Time is called now by Duane Murphy.
- 2:08:13Murphy steps back in and Slayton takes the sign for more. And now Jimmy backs off. He wants an inside.
- 2:08:22Ball to him, strike two.
- 2:08:24The outfield for Murphy is about straight away. He's home at four times, knocked in nine runs.
- 2:08:30Slayton sets kicks and fires. Curb and he missed outside.
- 2:08:34Ball three and strike two on Murphy.
- 2:08:37Slayton has walked a pair tonight.
- 2:08:40And he has struck out one. His only strike out came in the sixth inning.
- 2:08:46Struck out Jim Hesion.
- 2:08:49Ball three and strike two.
- 2:08:51Murphy waiting on a payoff pitch.
- 2:08:53And here it is. Curb and he missed long inside.
- 2:08:56Three walks now off Slayton.
- 2:09:02Brings up the right fielder, Larry Murray.
- 2:09:07Murray had an infield single, a bunt single his first time up.
- 2:09:11He caps it first and bumps back to the mound.
- 2:09:14Full conference now between Slayton and Moore. The A's with runners at first and second.
- 2:09:19The Sulton Club has played the Brewers tough this year.
- 2:09:22They lead the season series three games to two.
- 2:09:27Mando is playing in front of the bag at third for Murray. This guy's got outstanding speed.
- 2:09:33Edwards at second, Murphy at first.
- 2:09:35Slayton delivers, strike call to the knees. Good fastball from Jimmy.
- 2:09:42Nothing in one.
- 2:09:47The target up by Moore.
- 2:09:50Now Slayton wants him to start over.
- 2:09:53A lot of times when a pitcher backs off, or you might think he wants a new sign, he might want different locations.
- 2:10:00The O-1 delivery. Foul out of play by Murray. Good fastball from Jimmy again. He got inside on Murray.
- 2:10:07It doesn't necessarily mean a pitcher. All he wants is a new sign.
- 2:10:11Sometimes you might put down a fastball, you want it inside, he'll shake you off.
- 2:10:15The catcher sometimes thinks he wants a new sign. All he wants is new locations. Wants to go to the outside.
- 2:10:21Two strikes, good pitch. Strike! Three calls, he got him looking.
- 2:10:27He came to the outside corner with a good fastball and Murray is strike out victim number two.
- 2:10:36Now with Cuman out, here's Mitchell Page, the D.H.
- 2:10:41He lined hard to Gorman-Thomas' last time up in the fifth.
- 2:10:46With a runner at third.
- 2:10:50Page hitting a two thirty-five.
- 2:10:53Runners lead first and second. Slayton trying to get out of a jam here in the seventh inning.
- 2:10:58Time is called, Page steps out.
- 2:11:02The Brewers about hit the eight, seven to six, and they lead four nothing.
- 2:11:10Slayton delivers. Page swings and fouls back and he had a good rip.
- 2:11:16Page has got home run power.
- 2:11:19He has hit three on the year, but he's better than that.
- 2:11:29Last year with Oakland, he hit seventeen, the year before, twenty-one.
- 2:11:35The O-one delivery, foul back again. Good fastball by Slayton.
- 2:11:41He was around the letters on the inside corner.
- 2:11:44Two strikes to Page. That's a tough pitch for a hitter to handle.
- 2:11:49You really got to get out in front of it.
- 2:11:54Two strikes, restriction of pitch.
- 2:11:59Capper fouls first base side.
- 2:12:01There was a low-sinking fastball from Slayton on the outside corner and Page tried to pull it.
- 2:12:06Two strikes on Mitchell Page.
- 2:12:13There is activity in the Brewer bullpen.
- 2:12:20Jim Slayton takes the sign for Moore.
- 2:12:23Page is waiting the pitch.
- 2:12:25Loan outside. He tried with a breaking ball and he missed.
- 2:12:28He started the slider off the outside corner, trying to get it to come back and just nip that outside corner.
- 2:12:34One ball, two strikes on Mitchell Page.
- 2:12:39Let's see where Moore sets up now if he moves inside.
- 2:12:43The pitch, high and outside.
- 2:12:46Ball two and strike two.
- 2:12:48Jeff Newman, the first baseman, is due next.
- 2:12:52Slayton trying to end this inning right now to get Page.
- 2:12:57Two balls and two strikes.
- 2:13:03Edwards at second.
- 2:13:05Murphy at first base with two out.
- 2:13:09The 2-2 pitch, high and outside. He's run at full.
- 2:13:13Three balls and two strikes on Mitchell Page.
- 2:13:17Traveling time for runners at first and second.
- 2:13:22Ball three, strike two with two and out.
- 2:13:26Second off pitch. Bouncer, first base side is going to go foul.
- 2:13:30Picked up by Cooper.
- 2:13:34The A's have two speedsters aboard in Edwards and Murphy.
- 2:13:44Three balls and two strikes.
- 2:13:50Slayton, a little extra time now with a sign for Moore.
- 2:13:56He goes to the stretch.
- 2:13:58Checks Edwards at second.
- 2:14:00The pitch to Page pops him up, but it's going to get out of play.
- 2:14:03Moore chasing and it's about, it would have been about eight rows back,
- 2:14:08it landed on the screen.
- 2:14:10That ball might have a chance to stay in play.
- 2:14:13So, he'll do it again at three-two.
- 2:14:16Now the Cubs came back to beat the Phillies, four to one.
- 2:14:23Phillies had a 1-0 lead in that game in the third.
- 2:14:27But the Cubs beat them, four to one.
- 2:14:30Paying two on Mitchell Page.
- 2:14:33They're targeted up by Moore.
- 2:14:35Here it is, low and inside they're loaded up.
- 2:14:41Four walks coming up by Slayton.
- 2:14:45They bring the tying run to the plate, Jeff Newman.
- 2:14:53Edwards goes to third, Murphy to second base.
- 2:15:00And the first baseman, Jeff Newman, checks in.
- 2:15:03Slayton will go back to the windup.
- 2:15:07He draws the arm back, the pitch to Newman, swing and a miss.
- 2:15:12An overhand curveball dropped off the table.
- 2:15:14Nothing in one to Newman.
- 2:15:16Here's another guy with good power when he makes contact.
- 2:15:21Megan Strong.
- 2:15:25Charlie Moore sets that target off the outside corner of the pitch.
- 2:15:29Here's a fly ball hit to right field, along the line, long run for sixth throw.
- 2:15:33It's out of play.
- 2:15:36Two quick strikes on Newman.
- 2:15:53The ultralivery, low and outside and not by much.
- 2:15:58He's shot for the outside corner in just this.
- 2:16:01One ball and two strikes.
- 2:16:03The base is loaded with Oakland A's here in the seventh with Newman out.
- 2:16:09Slayton trying to get out of it.
- 2:16:12Here's a one-two pitch to Newman.
- 2:16:15Swing and a miss and he strikes him out to get out of it.
- 2:16:19Letter high fastball and I mean Connor Rivers.
- 2:16:23Strikeout number three for Slayton.
- 2:16:25Miller runs, one hit.
- 2:16:27They left the bases loaded.
- 2:16:29At the end of six and a half, the Brewers four of the A's nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.

- 2:24:30They're going to come to the plate and the slide by Moore and they got him.
- 2:24:34The infield up.
- 2:24:37Moore broke from third and Edwards made a perfect throw to Essien.
- 2:24:43They had Charlie Moore very easily.
- 2:24:47Those shin guards on a catcher don't feel too good on a slide either.
- 2:24:51Gettner on with a fielder's choice of firsts.
- 2:24:54Here's Robin Yowd.
- 2:24:55Robin is two for three.
- 2:25:04Jim Todd throws the first and Gettner's back in time.
- 2:25:12The Brewers lead four-nothing.
- 2:25:15The stretch.
- 2:25:17The pitch to Robin.
- 2:25:18Taken high and outside for a ball.
- 2:25:25One-nothing to the Brewer's shortstop.
- 2:25:29Right-hander Jim Todd, the third Oakland pitcher in tonight's game, throws the first.
- 2:25:35Gettner again back in time.
- 2:25:43Good stretch.
- 2:25:47Throw the first again.
- 2:25:49No contest on Gettner.
- 2:25:51The Orioles won today seven to five, but the Yankees and the Red Sox were beaten.
- 2:26:00Here's the one-oh pitch.
- 2:26:01Robin takes the strike and it's even.
- 2:26:05Boston drops three and a half games behind.
- 2:26:08The Yankees will drop to six.
- 2:26:13Brewers would only be a game out of second place if they can win tonight's game.
- 2:26:20They have four and a half games behind Baltimore in third place.
- 2:26:25One-one to Robin.
- 2:26:26Runner goes high and outside.
- 2:26:27Throw by Estien in the dirt on one-half and this time they got him.
- 2:26:30Edwards covering and Estien threw that ball on one-half to the second baseman.
- 2:26:34It was an easy throw for him to handle that time.
- 2:26:36They got Gettner and the inning is over.
- 2:26:39Two-four if you score along with us.
- 2:26:41No runs.
- 2:26:42One hit.
- 2:26:43One error.
- 2:26:44One left.
- 2:26:46At the end of seventh inning it is still Milwaukee four and open nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 2:26:53Our president's trying to ramble by with Chevy Malibu.
- 2:26:57Oh, the Chevy value that means a lot to you.
- 2:27:00Dig in, America, dig in deep, because the deeper you dig, the more you're going to love Chevy's midsize 79 Malibu.
- 2:27:07Mmm, mmm, beneath its mouthwatering line there's a great big helping of what we call solid Chevy value.
- 2:27:13We're talking about double panel doors, a strong full perimeter frame, big coil springs with all four wheels, the strength of body by vision.
- 2:27:20We're talking about a trunk with more usable space than the 77 Malibu has replaced.
- 2:27:24An interior with more headroom and legroom front and rear.
- 2:27:27We're talking about a whole lot of car for your hard-earned bucks, America.
- 2:27:31And I'll bet we're talking your language there.
- 2:27:33Check out the 79 Chevy Malibu at your Chevy dealers now.
- 2:27:37Chevy Malibu, Chevy Malibu, I bet you that's a wrap up, I'll be calling through and through.
- 2:27:43Come and get it, America.
- 2:27:45I bet you that's a wrap up, I'll be sharing all day to you.

- 2:28:16That's Friday, June 15th, 7.30 p.m. at County Stadium.
- 2:28:20The open day setting in Wayne Gross against Slayton takes the strike on one.
- 2:28:26Gross' walk bounced to second in singles.
- 2:28:29He's one for three tonight, one for two, I beg your pardon.
- 2:28:32Walked his first time up.
- 2:28:34Low on delivery, breaking ball low and inside, and the appeal from the third baseman,
- 2:28:38Fire Bill Degin, and he says that Gross didn't go around far enough.
- 2:28:43It's a ball and a strike to Wayne Gross.
- 2:28:48Mando playing wide of third.
- 2:28:49He's about even with the bag, but a good 10 to 12 feet off the line.
- 2:28:52Low and inside overhand curve from Jimmy.
- 2:28:54Two balls and a strike.
- 2:28:56The outfield plays Gross about straight away, but the infield plays him slightly to full.
- 2:29:02Two balls and a strike.
- 2:29:06Slayton leans into the sign for more.
- 2:29:08Here's the 2-1 delivery.
- 2:29:09Gross taps on the first-base side foul pass Cooper.
- 2:29:16Ball two and strike two.
- 2:29:17Slayton has walked four, struck out three, and he's given up six base hits.
- 2:29:30Got two big strikeouts in the seventh inning.
- 2:29:32The A's had a bit of a rally going.
- 2:29:35Ball two and strike two.
- 2:29:36The pitch to Gross.
- 2:29:38Swing and a miss, and he strikes out Wayne Gross.
- 2:29:42That's number four for Slayton.
- 2:29:44He came with the express and he blew it by Gross.
- 2:29:49Here's Glenn Burke, the left fielder.
- 2:29:53Now every once in a while when Slayton has had to reach back and get a little extra, he's been able to do it.
- 2:30:00Four strikeouts and four walks for the Brewer right-hander.
- 2:30:05Glenn Burke is two for two.
- 2:30:09The pitch to him, inside fastball news.
- 2:30:13One and nothing on Burke.
- 2:30:16An infield single and a single is better.
- 2:30:19The one-hole pitch taking all the way and he looks at the strike.
- 2:30:26One and one on Burke.
- 2:30:29Right-handed batter.
- 2:30:32Slayton delivers. Burke swings and fouls out of play upstairs.
- 2:30:38Ball one and strike two.
- 2:30:46Charlie Moore works the sign.
- 2:30:50Here's Slayton's one-two pitch.
- 2:30:52Inside he almost got hit.
- 2:30:54High and tight to Burke.
- 2:31:00The A's got Burke from the Dodgers.
- 2:31:07He was born in Oakland, California.
- 2:31:11Two-two pitch. Low and outside and he just missed.
- 2:31:16I tell you, Greg Kosk came very close to calling that pitch a strike.
- 2:31:20He almost had that right arm pumped up.
- 2:31:22Getting some heat now from the Brewer dugout.
- 2:31:28Three balls and two strikes to pitch.
- 2:31:30Here's a line drive toward right center but Thomas is there.
- 2:31:33He's got it.
- 2:31:35Coming out.
- 2:31:42Greg's got a chip on his shoulder right now.
- 2:31:44I think he knows he missed that pitch.
- 2:31:46But as soon as that ball was hit he walked out in front of the plate.
- 2:31:48And he was watching the play but he was also looking over his shoulder at the dugout.
- 2:31:54He and Harvey Keene got a little something going down there.
- 2:31:57Greg Kosk now pointing at Harvey Keene and Harvey said,
- 2:31:59Get your head in the ball game.
- 2:32:03And in the 19th it's a drive to left center.
- 2:32:05Thomas long run. He's got it.
- 2:32:10Fine running catch by Gorman Taliesin.
- 2:32:12He's left center and that retires inside.
- 2:32:16Now the A's are three up and three down here in the A's putting.
- 2:32:19Fine play by Gorman.
- 2:32:21After seven and one half it is still the Brewers four and the A's nothing on the Brewer radio network.

- 2:33:57Todd and Robin look flown outside for a ball. It's one and nothing.
- 2:34:01He out is two for three with a run scored.
- 2:34:03The one-all pitch to him, flown outside, two and nothing.
- 2:34:07The Brewers lead, four and nothing.
- 2:34:09In the eighth inning.
- 2:34:12It's Clayton three outs away from the shutout.
- 2:34:16Two and nothing the pitch to Robin.
- 2:34:18He swings it at the fly ball to right field.
- 2:34:20Chase long run for the right fielder. Murray's got it near the wall.
- 2:34:25Nice running catch by Larry Murray in right field.
- 2:34:28Boy that guy's got good speed.
- 2:34:30He made a couple of catches in the series in Oakland that were fantastic.
- 2:34:34One out here is Cooper.
- 2:34:36Big three run homer for Coop in the sixth inning.
- 2:34:42Strike out a pop up to short and the big home run.
- 2:34:46Jim Todd delivers. Cooper swings and taps foul.
- 2:34:50Nothing in one to Cooper.
- 2:34:59Now the base hit back in the sixth inning.
- 2:35:02That's three run homer by Cooper.
- 2:35:03It'll keep his average over the 300 mark.
- 2:35:09Here's the O-1 delivery.
- 2:35:10That's ball drilled to left field.
- 2:35:12That's a solid single by Cooper.
- 2:35:20One out for Davis who hit a long home run his last time up.
- 2:35:26The fourth home run for Davis.
- 2:35:29He has now hit safely in seven of his last eight games.
- 2:35:32He has 11 RBIs on the year.
- 2:35:36Jim Todd will work from the stretch.
- 2:35:43Cooper jumps to a lead at first.
- 2:35:45The pitch to Davis, low and outside for a ball.
- 2:35:51Texas hung on to beat Seattle tonight 2-1.
- 2:35:56This is the only game going in the American League.
- 2:36:00The pitch to Davis, strike call counts even.
- 2:36:04There's still one game underway in the National League.
- 2:36:06Houston playing at San Diego.
- 2:36:09The rest of the National League action is over.
- 2:36:14The 1-1 to Davis. Looping fly ball.
- 2:36:16The right's going to drop for a base hit.
- 2:36:18Cooper will hold at second as Murray comes on with the ball
- 2:36:21to the second baseman, Edwards.
- 2:36:25Now Davis is 2-4.
- 2:36:31Here's Ben Olsavage.
- 2:36:33Benji has a base hit in three tries.
- 2:36:36Cincinnati tops the Dodgers 3-1.
- 2:36:39Ken Griffey at a home run, 39,000 plus.
- 2:36:42Well that game adds Chavez-Rabine, Sutton-Lawson, Norman the winner.
- 2:36:47The Mets beat the Pirates 10-8.
- 2:36:49Henderson and Youngblood with home runs for New York.
- 2:36:52Skip Lockwood finally got a win.
- 2:36:54His first against five losses.
- 2:36:58The Braves beat the Giants 5-4.
- 2:37:01Matthews hit number 10 for Atlanta.
- 2:37:03Madlock is fourth for the Giants.
- 2:37:05Here's Jim Marshall heading out to the mound now.
- 2:37:11The A's have activity in the bullpen.
- 2:37:17And I believe Jim Todd will leave here in the eighth inning.
- 2:37:24Jim Marshall will make another pitching change.
- 2:37:28Dave Hamilton, a left-hander, becomes the fourth Oakland pitcher in tonight's game.
- 2:37:35Well Jim Todd, who came on to work in the seventh, leaves here in the eighth
- 2:37:39with the Brewers leading by a score of 4-0,
- 2:37:42runners at first and second, and only one man out.
- 2:37:47Dave will make his tenth appearance of the year.
- 2:37:50And in 20 innings he has posted an ERA of 1.35.
- 2:37:54He's 1-1 and lost none, no saves.
- 2:37:57He's had one starting assignment.
- 2:37:59In the 20 innings he has walked 14 and struck out 15.
- 2:38:03So Jim Marshall goes to left-hander Dave Hamilton,
- 2:38:07who decides to walk in from the bullpen in right-center field.
- 2:38:13You know, the Oakland ball club last year was made up of pretty much of unknown players,
- 2:38:22and yet a year ago today after 45 ball games the A's were in second place in the West
- 2:38:28with a record of 26-19 and they were only a half game back.
- 2:38:32And then they turned right around after that date and moved back into first place in the Western Division.
- 2:38:39They didn't go out of first place to save until June 13th, June 14th I guess it was.
- 2:38:46I'm trying to remember Bob when Bobby Winkl's quit, they were either like 10 or 12 games over 500
- 2:38:53and in first place when he resigned.
- 2:38:56But everybody said after the week or so last year when the season started and they both passed,
- 2:39:03they actually ran up a record of 19-5, which is their best record of the year from the one-and-lost percentage standpoint.
- 2:39:09Everybody kept waiting for him to crack, but he held them up there pretty good.
- 2:39:13And then they started to slide all late in June and then kind of the bottom kind of fell out.
- 2:39:18This year the bottom fell out when the season started.
- 2:39:21Very early for the Ulta Nays this year.
- 2:39:27Let's see, Bobby Winkl's is the coach for the White Sox now I believe, right?
- 2:39:30You know, I'm interested in getting down there to see, well, Coach, we'll be down there a week or so.
- 2:39:35I'm not.
- 2:39:36Well, yeah, but I'm interested to see how they work the, you know, when Chess is in the ball game,
- 2:39:40how he works with Bobby Winkl as his third base coach when Chester's playing.
- 2:39:46You know, like he's a base runner.
- 2:39:48I mean, how much, in other words, how much of the game does Winkl run for him when he is actually in the game himself?
- 2:39:54I wouldn't think he'd run too much.
- 2:39:56I think he probably would early.
- 2:39:57Oh, I don't know about running, but you mean Winkl's running the game for him?
- 2:40:00I'm thinking early in the season he probably did.
- 2:40:02Whether he shows or not, I don't know, but we'll find out when we get there.
- 2:40:05But they kind of got out of good working agreement together because I'm sure he realized heavily.
- 2:40:09I've often wondered how much dependency the playing manager has on his third base coach or first lieutenant.
- 2:40:17But he's got a good one anyway, the first lieutenant.
- 2:40:19Yes, he does.
- 2:40:20Bobby Winkl.
- 2:40:22Here's Ben Oveley now with two on and one out.
- 2:40:24And fainting left-hander.
- 2:40:26Dave Hamilton.
- 2:40:29The pitch to Benji, swaying a miss.
- 2:40:32Took a home run cut and missed it.
- 2:40:34Right-hander Dave Havillot is throwing now in the Oakland bullpen.
- 2:40:41Jim Todd worked an inning and a third.
- 2:40:43Gave up three hits.
- 2:40:47The 0-1 to Ben Oveley.
- 2:40:48Curve ball in the dirt.
- 2:40:49Back on the screen, runners go to second and third.
- 2:40:53Wild pitch.
- 2:40:57The cards to Dave Hamilton.
- 2:41:07Two runners in scoring position now for Ben Oveley.
- 2:41:14The Brewers have banged down 10-game-6 tonight.
- 2:41:18Leading 4-0.
- 2:41:19The Oakland infield is up.
- 2:41:21Cooper off at third.
- 2:41:23Davis at second base.
- 2:41:25Hamilton is running from the stretch.
- 2:41:27The pitch.
- 2:41:28Strike two call to Benji.
- 2:41:30Fast ball and he nailed down the outside corner.
- 2:41:40Ben Oveley started tonight's game at 2-0-6 with nine home runs and 24 runs batted in.
- 2:41:46Runners lead second and third.
- 2:41:48Hamilton sets and delivers.
- 2:41:51Fast ball.
- 2:41:52Drill to right field of A-6.
- 2:41:55Here's Cooper in.
- 2:41:56Davis around third.
- 2:41:58Oveley goes to second and he's in.
- 2:42:01Ben Oveley hit a line drive past Newman.
- 2:42:07Both runners scored easily.
- 2:42:09The draw from Murray was cut off by Newman.
- 2:42:12Benji was hot putting it to second.
- 2:42:14And he hesitated momentarily.
- 2:42:16He thought Newman was going to make that throw.
- 2:42:19And I think Ben was hesitant about sliding again.
- 2:42:25There was no throw made at second.
- 2:42:28He stopped about four feet from the bag and took two quick steps.
- 2:42:33And he was there at second.
- 2:42:35A single and two runs batted in for Ben Oveley.
- 2:42:37Here's Lascato.
- 2:42:39Quick stopping Brewer's Lane to pitch to sixth.
- 2:42:41Low in the dirt.
- 2:42:42Picked out by Emphion.
- 2:42:44He's going to break a leg someday.
- 2:42:46Boy, he can be wide open and stop quicker than the roadrunner.
- 2:42:54He was really wide open when he was going to second.
- 2:42:57One of the six stones.
- 2:42:59One inside, two and nothing.
- 2:43:00He stopped, as I said, about four feet from the bag expecting a throw from Newman.
- 2:43:04Because Mario Guerrero, the shortstop, was standing right alongside Ben.
- 2:43:08But the throw never came.
- 2:43:14Two and nothing the pitch.
- 2:43:16Curve and a beauty.
- 2:43:17Strike call to sixth.
- 2:43:20Lascato at a base hit the right field in the sixth inning.
- 2:43:22He's one for three.
- 2:43:25Then he grabs the lead at second.
- 2:43:28Hamilton sets for the 2-1 pitch.
- 2:43:29Here it is.
- 2:43:31Change up curve and he missed side and side.
- 2:43:34Three balls and a strike on sixth.
- 2:43:42The sign from Emphion.
- 2:43:44Again, Ben Ogilvy has a good lead at second.
- 2:43:463-1 delivery.
- 2:43:47Curve ball and he missed.
- 2:43:49And Pixo thought that pitch might have been a strike.
- 2:43:51So did Emphion and Hamilton.
- 2:43:54Pixo didn't move toward first base.
- 2:44:00But apparently the pitch was low.
- 2:44:01Anyway, it's a ball.
- 2:44:02That's what Greg Cox said.
- 2:44:04That's all that counts.
- 2:44:09Here's Sal Bando.
- 2:44:10Two strikeouts and a line drive to Sutter.
- 2:44:17Hamilton delivers.
- 2:44:18Bando takes the curve for a strike on one.
- 2:44:25Rolling out the barrel as the Brewers lead.
- 2:44:27Six-nothing in the eighth.
- 2:44:31Hamilton sets.
- 2:44:32Delivers.
- 2:44:33Bando took low and inside.
- 2:44:35He almost chased it.
- 2:44:37One ball and one strike.
- 2:44:42Bando's got his modest four-game hitting streak on the line right now.
- 2:44:46He's 0 for 3.
- 2:44:481-1 pitch.
- 2:44:49Curve and he missed high and inside.
- 2:44:50He hung a curve ball.
- 2:44:532-1 to Bando.
- 2:44:58The open outfield plays Bando as a pull hitter.
- 2:45:02The 2-1 delivery.
- 2:45:03Way in the mess.
- 2:45:04He was out in front of a breaking pitch.
- 2:45:07Ball to and strike to on Bando.
- 2:45:13The Brewers trying to nail down their fifth win in a row.
- 2:45:17They would jump six games over the 500 mark.
- 2:45:212-2 pitch.
- 2:45:22Fastball foul out of play.
- 2:45:24He's trying to hit that ball toward right field.
- 2:45:30Ball to and strike to.
- 2:45:37Oglebay at second.
- 2:45:38Luscano at first.
- 2:45:39The 2-2 pitch.
- 2:45:41High and outside.
- 2:45:42Full countdown.
- 2:45:46Three balls, two strikes to Bando.
- 2:45:48And it's traveling time for runners at first and second.
- 2:45:52They'll be off with a pitch.
- 2:45:54Guerrero trying to sneak in behind Oglebay at second.
- 2:45:57The stretch.
- 2:46:00Way in a foul by Bando.
- 2:46:01And right now, it will take 10 seconds for identification.
- 2:46:04You're on the Brewers radio network.
- 2:46:06This is your station for Milwaukee Brewers baseball broadcast.
- 2:46:09WDORFM, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
- 2:46:16We're in the eighth inning at county stadium with the Brewers winning 6-0.
- 2:46:19Straight to the Bando.
- 2:46:20Low and outside.
- 2:46:21They're loaded up.
- 2:46:26They're loaded up for Gorman Thomas.
- 2:46:31And the crowd wants more.
- 2:46:35Not Charlie.
- 2:46:37More runs.
- 2:46:4011-base hit.
- 2:46:41Brewers leading by a score of 6-0.
- 2:46:43Gorman Thomas is struck out.
- 2:46:45Fly to left and fly to center.
- 2:46:48And here's Jim Marshall heading out to the mound.
- 2:46:51He has a right-hander in the bullpen, Dave Hanerloh.
- 2:46:55And Marshall has made the move to the bullpen.
- 2:47:00That will be all for Dave Hamilton.
- 2:47:05And right-hander Dave Hanerloh becomes the fifth Oakland pitcher in tonight's game.
- 2:47:13The bases are loaded.
- 2:47:15Killman out.
- 2:47:16And Gorman Thomas will face Dave Hanerloh.
- 2:47:22This will be Hanerloh's 25th ballgame, which makes him high on the pitching staff for most games played in.
- 2:47:29Most appearances he's won two and lost three in the 24 games and saved three.
- 2:47:33In 35 innings though he has given up only seven earned runs.
- 2:47:36A brilliant 1.80 ERA.
- 2:47:4014 strikeouts in the 31 innings that Hanerloh has pitched.
- 2:47:46Dave came over in that big trade for buying a blue.
- 2:47:49He had a kick out of talking to Dave Reverend tonight about being involved in the first Vita Blue trade, and that was to Cincinnati.
- 2:47:55And Dave said that a million bucks, I kind of forgot the amount, the Reds were going to send a million dollars and Reverend to Oakland for Vita Blue.
- 2:48:07And of course I didn't remember the exact dollar amount, but that was the deal that Commissioner Bowie Kuhn turned down.
- 2:48:14And Dave said until the last week before spring training he didn't know which club he was to report to.
- 2:48:19Whether he'd be going to Oakland or whether he would report to Cincinnati.
- 2:48:24So there he sat for three and a half months not knowing which team he was going to be playing for.
- 2:48:28And finally the A's and the Reds did complete a deal.
- 2:48:30I think they sent Bear over to Cincinnati for Reverend.
- 2:48:36But anyway Hanerloh finally was involved in the Vita Blue trade with the San Francisco Giants.
- 2:48:43Pretty good right hander.
- 2:48:46And he is on now taking his warm up pitches.
- 2:48:51Last year with Oakland he won three and lost six and his ERA was 3.25.
- 2:48:57He spent three seasons with the Giants.
- 2:49:04Comes from Moses Lake, Washington.
- 2:49:06Did you ever make that town into your circuit? Never made Moses Lake, huh?
- 2:49:09Not yet, Merle. Still a long time to go.
- 2:49:16Dave Hanerloh, 28 years old.
- 2:49:19Well I guess he lives in Ellensburg, Washington now. I'm sure you've been there though.
- 2:49:22Right down the road from Moses Lake.
- 2:49:24You didn't make that one either, huh?
- 2:49:26It'll be a two for one deal.
- 2:49:29Well stand by out there. He's on the same night.
- 2:49:31Stand by out there in Washington. Here he comes. I'll be there.
- 2:49:34Moses Lake, Washington. That's where they'll have the dinner.
- 2:49:40Here's Gorman Thomas with the bases loaded.
- 2:49:45Everybody here at County Stadium is thinking grand salami.
- 2:49:50They want more.
- 2:49:56Oh they'd love to see Gorman at one.
- 2:49:59Thomas has played well in the outfield tonight.
- 2:50:01Made a couple of fine plays and centers. Pitch to Gorman.
- 2:50:04Curve and a beauty.
- 2:50:06Strike call from Hanerloh.
- 2:50:09Very sharp breaking curve ball. One strike to Gorman.
- 2:50:17Hanerloh is working from the stretch.
- 2:50:19The bases are loaded.
- 2:50:21The 0-1 to Gorman.
- 2:50:23On a check swing he held in time.
- 2:50:26One ball and one strike to Thomas.
- 2:50:30Gorman with 11 on runs.
- 2:50:33He leads the club in the empty plathons.
- 2:50:36He's knocked in 28 runs. He knocked in the game with a last night.
- 2:50:40A 1-1 pitch.
- 2:50:42Going outside.
- 2:50:44Two balls and a strike as Hanerloh came again with a breaking pitch.
- 2:50:48Ball two and strike one.
- 2:50:51Nice crowd again tonight at County Stadium. 20,512.
- 2:50:58One pitch. Bouncing ball toward short.
- 2:51:01Grabbed by Guerrero. Tossed to second.
- 2:51:03And that's all they get.
- 2:51:05Bando really put a hit on the second baseman, Mike Edwards.
- 2:51:08A run scored. Thomas is on with a fielded short.
- 2:51:13And credit Sal Bando with breaking up that double play.
- 2:51:17He put a rolling block on the second baseman, Mike Edwards.
- 2:51:21Jeff Newman, the first baseman, is now asking the second base umpire, George Belloni, about that play by Bando.
- 2:51:27But he took him out fair and square.
- 2:51:31Did not leave the baseline.
- 2:51:33He just put a rolling block on Edwards.
- 2:51:36So, a run scored.
- 2:51:39Cooper is in. Thomas gets an RBI of 29.
- 2:51:51Here's Charlie Moore.
- 2:51:54Here's the Charlie breaking ball going inside.
- 2:52:04Here's Cooper in. Ben Ogilvy.
- 2:52:06Fitz-Timoore fouled out of play.
- 2:52:12Moscato at third.
- 2:52:15Bando erased on the fielder's choice of second.
- 2:52:25Dave Haverloh, the fifth pitcher used in tonight's game by Olson.
- 2:52:30Time is called. Moore steps out.
- 2:52:34The Brewers have dug into the open both end tonight.
- 2:52:37Fitz-Timoore curveball hangs inside up around the letters.
- 2:52:40Two balls and a strike.
- 2:52:43Eleven-day fits. The Brewers lead 7-0.
- 2:52:46They are three outs away from their 25th complete game of the year.
- 2:52:50Well, this pitching staff has really done the job.
- 2:52:52Fitz-Timoore is low and outside.
- 2:52:58Three balls and a strike.
- 2:53:01They have 24 complete games.
- 2:53:07Haverloh delivers. Moore takes the strike. Good breaking ball.
- 2:53:11Haverloh is a three-quarter-arm style pitcher.
- 2:53:16Every once in a while he will drop way down from the side.
- 2:53:19He really comes sidearm to a right-handed batter.
- 2:53:23The strike, three-two-pitch. Thomas goes low and outside. They're loaded up.
- 2:53:31They're loaded up for Jimmy Gander.
- 2:53:34The third walk in the inning.
- 2:53:37Issued by Oakland pitchers.
- 2:53:40Hamilton walks a pair.
- 2:53:45And now Haverloh walks one. Gander takes the strike on one.
- 2:53:50Jimmy Gander kept his hitting streak alive back in the sixth inning.
- 2:53:55He has now hit safely in six straight games.
- 2:53:58Mace is loaded. The stretch from the O-1 pitch. Low and inside to Gander.
- 2:54:07One ball and one strike from Dave Haverloh.
- 2:54:11Tamal Sorenson against Steve McHattie to wind it up.
- 2:54:15Pitch to Jimmy. Line drive, Mace hit left field.
- 2:54:18Here's the foul to him. Thomas comes on toward the plate to throw.
- 2:54:22He's in the middle of the field.
- 2:54:25Thomas comes on toward the plate to throw. He is out.
- 2:54:30Perfect throw by Glenn Burks.
- 2:54:32Nailed the sliding Garmin Thomas.
- 2:54:35As he had hung right in there.
- 2:54:37It'll be an RBI for Gander.
- 2:54:40The shuttle's scored. Thomas has cut down seven-two.
- 2:54:46Mainship for Gander and an RBI.
- 2:54:48And the bulls are in the inning. They get four runs.
- 2:54:53On four hits. No errors. One left. Two left.
- 2:54:59I beg your pardon. At the end of eighth.
- 2:55:01The Brewers' ATA is nothing on the Brewer Radio Network.
- 2:55:06Anything you need to know about the New York City?
- 2:55:09A fast insurance plan.
- 2:55:11This old total liability to work.
- 2:55:13Effective immediately.
- 2:55:15Meet me at the bus stop.
- 2:55:17Because my brother-in-law's driving my car.
- 2:55:19My kid is driving my wife's car.
- 2:55:21My wife is driving our camper.
- 2:55:23And the whole thing's driving me wild.
- 2:55:25Where and why I need this conversation.
- 2:55:28That's the thing that you're watching.
- 2:55:30Through the elevator.
- 2:55:32Wisconsin Telephone.
- 2:55:34How do you go about setting up a 32 million gallon per hour pumping station in a residential neighborhood?
- 2:55:50Very quietly.
- 2:55:52I'm Joe Gargiola speaking for Alice Chalmers Corporation.
- 2:55:56And that's how AC technology helps keep a neighborhood of homes, churches, and apartments happy in Missouri.
- 2:56:03The entire pumping station, including reservoirs, offices, and parking lots, is so unobtrusive, both in sight and in sound, that a newcomer or passerby would hardly know it was there.
- 2:56:15Comp, valves, and related equipment for this plant were supplied by Alice Chalmers, helping to meet basic world needs for water.
- 2:56:24The opening door is late, ain't nothing. Gotta hold them in there. Hold the shutout. Here's Merle. Thank you Bob. And Guerrero takes a strike over the outside corner into someone one. Mario Guerrero is 0 for 3 tonight. Mike Edwards will follow him into Wayne Murphy will be up.
- 2:56:46Straighten's breaking ball is hit back in the left center field of ASET. Over to cut it off, Garmin Thomas and Aron First Guerrero.
- 2:56:55So the A's have the leadoff man on, hit number 7. We're in the ninth inning and we'll take, well let's see, we'll take Mike Edwards next, who is 2 out of 3.
- 2:57:08Edwards doubled in the fifth inning and he's singled in a 7. Right handed batter. Straighten at the valve, here's the pitch to Edwards. There's a line drive in the center and it's in there for a base hit.
- 2:57:18So the first two men are on and Edwards is 3 out of 4 tonight. He came into the game hitting 2-0-3.
- 2:57:27Down to the top of the order and Wayne Murphy, 0 for 3 with a walk.
- 2:57:37Top of the ninth inning, the Brewers lead 8 to nothing, going for their fifth straight win and their second straight over the A's.
- 2:57:45Somebody out. Murphy hitting 2-79 coming into the game tonight.
- 2:57:53Jimmy Slaton comes out at the belt and he straddles the pitching rubber and he wants Charlie Moore to start over with the signs.
- 2:58:05Here's the stretch down and the pitch. Strike with a fastball over the outside corner.
- 2:58:11Don't forget gang, if you're 16 or under you'll have a few more days to join the Brewer Pepsi fan club.
- 2:58:17And you need to write in because there's been such a demand for the instructions on cartons of Pepsi we've run out.
- 2:58:23But we'll give you a mailing address so run and grab pencil and paper and we'll give it to you.
- 2:58:27Here's the 0-1 pitch, inside and low a ball, one ball and one strike. For only $3 you get tickets to five different Brewer ball games.
- 2:58:36The first one coming up is June 21st with Minnesota. You get to come to five ball games.
- 2:58:43You get a Brewer Pepsi fan club t-shirt, a membership card autographed by Captain Sal Bando and a color picture of the Brewers on the back.
- 2:58:52It's a lot of fun to be a member of a fan club, the Brewer Pepsi fan club.
- 2:58:58Slayton now working to Murphy. Here's the pitch, ground ball up the middle, in the center of base hit and there goes the shutout.
- 2:59:05Rounding third and heading for home is Guerrero. Three straight singles in the ninth inning for the A's and it's 8-1 Oakland.
- 2:59:14Edwards held it second, Murphy knocks in his 10th round of the year and Cal McLeish has gone to the mound.
- 2:59:23Larry Murphy will be the batter.
- 2:59:35So a little chat with the batter.
- 2:59:37Okay, if you're ready here's the address for the Brewer Pepsi fan club. Post office box 45 Jackson, Wisconsin 53037.
- 2:59:50Got it? Brewer Pepsi fan club, post office box 45 Jackson, Wisconsin 53037.
- 2:59:59You'll get details in the mail, but you've got to have the letter in by Wednesday the 30th.
- 3:00:07So get us the mail over the weekend or certainly before Wednesday midnight of next week.
- 3:00:12Here we go, Murray the batter, the pitch, strike, fastball of the inside corner.
- 3:00:17Nine hits down for the A's.
- 3:00:21Three straight here in the ninth inning.
- 3:00:24Murray had a base hit of the first inning when he bunted his way on.
- 3:00:26Then he has gone hit with the next three trips. There's a change up high for a ball.
- 3:00:32One ball and one strike.
- 3:00:35Larry Sorensen shoots for his seventh win tomorrow against Mike McAddy who is undefeated 2-0.
- 3:00:41Young right-hander. One-one pitch, popped up foul out of play into the upper deck, third base side.
- 3:00:4720,512 here at the stadium tonight.
- 3:00:50Should have a nice crowd tomorrow, nice crowd for the Yankee series.
- 3:00:54It opens Monday afternoon. Bill Trammer scheduled for the Brewers.
- 3:00:59130 ball game on Memorial Day. Good way to have a family outing on Monday.
- 3:01:03Plenty of seats available for the Yankee series. Here's the one-two pitch.
- 3:01:06Outside and high of all. We're going to have good crowds,
- 3:01:10but don't let anybody tell you those games are sold out. They aren't.
- 3:01:15I don't know how those rumors get started.
- 3:01:19Here's the stretch for the two-two pitch and it's on the way outside. Fastball three and two.
- 3:01:24But if you do have an opportunity to buy tickets in advance for the Yankee series,
- 3:01:28it would be a good idea because then you won't have to wait out here at the stadium,
- 3:01:31waiting in the ticket line. You'll be able to come right on in.
- 3:01:35Blue ticket outlets, but all cheerstores, ticket-tron agencies.
- 3:01:39Here's the payoff pitch and it's popped up foul off of the third base side again.
- 3:01:44Three balls, two strikes.
- 3:01:47The Brewers have had two full run innings tonight, one of the sixth and one of the eighth.
- 3:01:56Jimmy will try again on the payoff pitch and time is called.
- 3:02:04Murray steps out of the batter's box.
- 3:02:07Murray's the switch hitter batting left handed.
- 3:02:12Ready, three-two pitch, popped up down behind Thursday. They have a play on this for a long run for Yan.
- 3:02:18Robin way down the line, makes the catch.
- 3:02:26A backhanded catch by Yan way down the foul line.
- 3:02:34Now with one out and two on the board, Mitchell Page will bat. 0-3 with the walk.
- 3:02:39Page checked into the game hitting 2-35.
- 3:02:44Marble have all the scores for you on the postgame show.
- 3:02:48The Yankees and Red Sox lost, but Baltimore won, so the Brewers pick up a game on the Red Sox
- 3:02:53and move another game ahead of the Yankees.
- 3:02:57Here comes the pitch. Page checked his swing, but not in time, strike one.
- 3:03:01They'll move up a game provided they hold his lead. One out, two out of the ninth.
- 3:03:05The Brewers lead by seven.
- 3:03:11The Brewers hang on. There'll be a game behind Boston and a game and a half ahead of the Yankees.
- 3:03:16Here's the next pitch. Page checks swing foul. He's trying to get out of the way actually.
- 3:03:20Ball goes sailing over into the dugout.
- 3:03:27The Brewers would still be four and a half games out at first,
- 3:03:32but they have one more win than the Red Sox.
- 3:03:37Here's the 0-2 pitch. Fly ball foul down the left-field line.
- 3:03:40Tried to sneak that fastball by Page, blow it away, but he just got a piece of it and poked it down the line.
- 3:03:50No balls, two strikes.
- 3:03:55Boy, those Orioles are something else the way they kept winning.
- 3:03:59They had a lot of extra innings today at Detroit.
- 3:04:03Looks like the Tigers had them going for a while.
- 3:04:05Here's the 0-2 pitch. Strike three called the outside corner.
- 3:04:08He nailed down the corner to Page.
- 3:04:12Now there are two down to the ninth inning.
- 3:04:14The fifth strikeout for Slayton and he will face Jeff Newman who has hit less than four trips.
- 3:04:22Newman with six home runs, 24 runs batted in.
- 3:04:26He was handed with the bases loaded in the seventh inning when the A's had their biggest threat.
- 3:04:30The Brewers led them four to nothing.
- 3:04:32Now Jimmy works on Newman.
- 3:04:34Breaking ball hit deep to left-field, way back there on this one.
- 3:04:37Ogled me to the wall, but she is gone.
- 3:04:39Hit a hanging curveball up around, up above the waist a little bit,
- 3:04:43and Newman jumped on it and bounced it out of here and the A's had four.
- 3:04:51So Jimmy gave him a breaking ball and it hung up on him.
- 3:04:56And Newman was all over it with his seventh home run of the year and four runs of score here in the ninth.
- 3:05:07So Jimmy had a shutout going, but he has lost that.
- 3:05:14Here's Wayne Gross, but he still has the lead. That's the important thing.
- 3:05:20Here's the first pitch to Gross to strike to the outside corner at the knees, 0-1.
- 3:05:30That's only the fourth home run this year out Slayton.
- 3:05:32Goes to a change up away from Gross, 1-1.
- 3:05:38Gross had a single in the sixth.
- 3:05:40It's also been over the walk.
- 3:05:42There's a ball breaking stuff inside, 2-1.
- 3:05:48Edwards and Murphy scored ahead of Newman on that home run.
- 3:05:53Slayton down to the next pitch inside a ball, a count of now 3-1.
- 3:06:05One of the home runs that up Slayton was by Murphy last weekend in Oakland.
- 3:06:09Here's a foul ball overhead to the upper deck, 3-2.
- 3:06:15Two balls and two strikes.
- 3:06:18That curve ball that Jimmy threw Newman was almost like he thought when he let it go he was thinking,
- 3:06:24Oh, please don't swing.
- 3:06:26Here's a playoff pitch.
- 3:06:27Line drive, right field of base hit off the glove of Gantner.
- 3:06:31Jimmy made a headlong dive trying to pull it down.
- 3:06:33Here's George Bamberger coming out of the dugout, and that'll be all for Slayton.
- 3:06:39Now Gross has single to right and Burke is coming up, and Jimmy will be out of the ballgame.
- 3:06:46So he got close, two down to the ninth, but he has given up a loving hit.
- 3:06:54So Slayton will leave the game, getting a nice hand from the fans.
- 3:06:58He's hit super ball a shutout through eighth.
- 3:07:01Casco will come on to take over for Jimmy.
- 3:07:08Well, Jimmy had that big lead.
- 3:07:13Eight to nothing going into the top of the inning.
- 3:07:16Three straight singles by Guerrero, Edwards, and Murphy produced a run.
- 3:07:19Then he got the next two men. He got Murray to foul out, and he struck out Paige.
- 3:07:23But Newman nailed him for a three-run homer.
- 3:07:27So Bill Castro comes out of the dugout, or out of the bullpen rather.
- 3:07:34And his runners win the round. Well, too bad Jimmy couldn't have finished the ballgame, but
- 3:07:39the biggest thing, of course, is the victory.
- 3:07:42And the Brewers are one out away from that.
- 3:07:45George Bamberger gives Castro the ball and says, OK, let's wrap it up and go home.
- 3:07:54So Billy is ready to start his warm-up pitches.
- 3:08:01Larry Sorenton pitches for the Brewers tomorrow.
- 3:08:10And Bill Travers scheduled for Monday with the New York Yankees.
- 3:08:13Night games Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- 3:08:19See what we got coming up.
- 3:08:22Ambedstay tomorrow, Monday, pregame show, the Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps.
- 3:08:28Tuesday night is Menominee Falls night, Wednesday night, Hartford night.
- 3:08:33You better check in with WTKM radio in a hurry, like on Tuesday.
- 3:08:36Thursday night is Kowaskam night. We had a big advance from Kowaskam down here tonight.
- 3:08:40They're really cranked up for their night.
- 3:08:43Then June 19th, West Bend night. You can get tickets for the West Bend group tickets.
- 3:08:49There was a surprise I've ever seen.
- 3:09:02And that just might become an annual event. It was really a spectacular.
- 3:09:08All right, Castro is warmed up and ready.
- 3:09:15Glenn Burke will lead the batter at first base, gross.
- 3:09:19Burke, two out of three tonight, two singles, the sacrifice to line drive to center.
- 3:09:30Bill Castro will try to nail it down.
- 3:09:33Billy out of the stretch holding, checks first, and here's the pitch.
- 3:09:36Strike around the knees.
- 3:09:43No balls and a strike to Castro.
- 3:09:48Bill delivers.
- 3:09:50Foul on a playoff at the first base side.
- 3:09:52Castro hasn't been in a ball game for 13 days.
- 3:09:56Bob and I have talked about the complete games at the Brewers pitch.
- 3:09:59That doesn't get that bullpen too much duty.
- 3:10:04It's a plus, and yet it's a minus in a way, but you'll take the plus.
- 3:10:08There's a bouncing ball to second. This ought to do it.
- 3:10:11If Gantner bobbles a ball, it won't do it. He can't find a two-meter on.
- 3:10:16So Gantner commits an error.
- 3:10:18He's going to play the high hop back on the edge of the grass,
- 3:10:21and it came right off his glove, all right up behind him.
- 3:10:23So the inning is still alive.
- 3:10:25Gross is on second. Burke is on first.
- 3:10:28And Essien is the batter, and he is a nice man to bat here on the night's endings.
- 3:10:33It's the first air of the ball game for the Brewers.
- 3:10:45So Castro's got to work some more tonight as he delivers to Essien,
- 3:10:48a strike to the inside corner.
- 3:10:51Essien 0 for 3 with a walk.
- 3:10:58Castro leans in, takes the sign,
- 3:11:01comes out of the stretch and throws.
- 3:11:03Essien looks at a strike over the outside corner.
- 3:11:06Little slider.
- 3:11:14No balls, two strikes to the Oakland catchers.
- 3:11:17And the pitch.
- 3:11:19Try to nail that corner down. They missed it.
- 3:11:21Blow it away.
- 3:11:22Ball one and strike two to Essien.
- 3:11:25Gross at second. Burke at first.
- 3:11:27We're in the ninth. The Brewers lead 8 to 4.
- 3:11:33Castro throws. Essien is the grounder foul of the third base side of the dugout.
- 3:11:39One ball and two strikes.
