Transcript
- 0:08[SPEAKER_04]: Hey everybody, welcome back to the Grimmulkin Lane podcast.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_04]: We are queer friends and allies gathered to review and discuss the original X-Men comics in continuity order.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_04]: I am so thrilled to be joined by the lovely lovely and wonderful, and I got a more enchanted cake here.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_04]: I'm so excited to have you both here.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_02]: Right as we are in the middle of the X-Men 97 season two deliciousness.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, you're going to be releasing this in August, which is going to be a month on my show featured all around the character, Dark Star, who is amazing.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_04]: In the latter half today, we will be reviewing Iron Man and you will number four, which is an appearance of Dark Star with the champions, teaming up with Ice Man or Ice Man, Ice Man's here too, teaming up with Iron Man to fight Motoc.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll get there in a little while and we're going to have a great time.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_04]: I'm so excited to have you both here.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_04]: Since I both have had you on the show and I'm friends with both of you, but Emma and I got to hang out in Palm Springs in January together and just like really solidify an already wonderful friendship.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_04]: Sean, I hope I get to see you more in person as well.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_04]: Let me just begin with the heavy question of what's it been like to release X-Men 97 season 2 compared to the first time around?
- 1:18[SPEAKER_04]: The world's in kind of a different place, and I think the reception to the show has been enthusiastic, but God, we're all exhausted these days.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_04]: So let me welcome Sean Gadget back first.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_04]: Hi Sean, great to see you.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: Hey Chad, great to be here.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be always fun to chat with you.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's fun to chat with me.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: Look at me.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry to chat with you.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's like, yeah, you were one of my favorite people to chat with because it's always so genuine, but also like borders on academic,
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: Tickles that side of my life history of having been a professor in Wanda.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: He get into my heart, Sean, right?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, look, as far as the season two stuff, like it, I think release comes along with relief.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's probably one of the best ways to describe where a lot of us are at.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a long process for season two.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: And it's been a slog to get here.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a lot of work by a whole lot of people.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think a lot of people don't necessarily focus on this, but like when you watch through the credits, like there's hundreds of names on our Marvel specific crew alone, there's about 150 people on every season.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: And that's not including the vendors who work in our Korean studios for animation, we have Canadians studio folks, we had, you know, all of our post not including any of the employees that Dave's hot chicken selling expert.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, for real.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: Man, the Dave's hot chicken and then I actually sent a note to one of our executives the other day because I saw the garage beer and so I just sent a like do we have a beer commercial and they're like yeah kind of and so that is the the beer company that is majority owned by Travis and Jason Kelsey.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: Which means all of us on the show are now like two degrees of separation from Taylor Swift, which is always fun.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: It actually features, I think Jason Kelsey and a Wolverine costume, which is it's a bunch of like dudes, our age, like 30s, 40s is getting together to watch,
- 3:16[SPEAKER_05]: Sign me up.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's amazing.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, like the, so as far as with the season, it's been, it's, you know, it's been a lot of hard work.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a lot.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that there's just a relief that the world now gets to see what we've been working on, because even the first season took us over three years to make.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that's something that a lot of people don't always understand when they're like, why is it taking so long for the season to come out, like,
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: do it right the first time all the way through.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: So when there are things that are changing adjusting as we're figuring out where the season started versus where it's going to end and realizing we need to adjust and make changes like it's it's it's a lot of time and a lot of work, but it's I'm excited again like I think that you know it got to a point where like we when we were starting to finish the episodes that it's like yeah, we're all really proud of this again and like.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that, you know, the response so far to the first few episodes has been really positive and been, you know, really cool to like, I, I am a nerd for reaction videos and like, you know, watching people gas, but the moments we wanted them to gas, watching them be upset, but appreciative of storytelling and, you know, in specific moments.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_02]: uh, it's really cool and like knowing that all of these years of hard work of so many people, like almost literal blood sweat and tears, uh, going into all of these, um, that now, like they're getting to see the light of day, but it also makes me that much more excited because if we're honest, like, it continues to build from, from there or working on, you know, season three, actively, um, starting season four stuff, like, which Brad had already announced, that's not
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: That was like, oh, I'm here for his already been confirmed by Marvel.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know, but there's it's a lot of stuff like in in the works and and should come at a more regular cadence, so people won't have to wait as long, which is really cool.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_05]: I think you can make them wait.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: We might do it.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_04]: And if we do that, we might want to your tears.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_04]: One of my first jobs was at a hearty's, and there was like a promotional campaign for the kids' meals toys for ex-men toys and like little comic books.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_04]: I still have those somewhere, I think.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_04]: And then I also remember the Pizza Hut promotional stuff, like the, the book at Pizza Hut stuff.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_04]: So the Dave's Hot Chicken stuff is hilarious to me.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and as I lobbed this year away, season one came out during Kartoa, where queer friends were like, hooray, we exist, and now it's coming out season two in a place where like the X-Men are like all disenfranchised and fighting evil robots and dying a good.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_04]: It resonates a little differently in the second Trump presidency.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_05]: it does.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_05]: And when we started it, yeah, he, you're still in our sleepy Biden era.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_05]: So it was a different time, but becoming kind of post his first administration, you can see how things are going in society.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_05]: And then there's, that's why a lot of us is creatives on it put our foot down and we're like, we need to make sure that some of the messages stay that are here.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_05]: Um, not all of them stuck.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_05]: I think, you know, that's what happens when you work for major corporations is a lot of politics come and evolve, but there was, you know, I think, um, episode two with Jubilee basically saying fuck you ice is it's going to always be relevant.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_05]: But at the time, because actually we didn't have ice specifically rating, but I mean, things were starting, but coming up for episode one, which shows a future in which the world has been devastated and like what we're trying to preserve here.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_04]: Pretty powerful.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_05]: It is, and at the time, David Allen, I were reading the script for this episode of, you know, this Asian American girl from the 90s is watching mutants be put in cages and you think she's not going to be thinking about the concentration camps that happened during World War II of Japanese Americans that also affected Chinese Americans, it affected all Asian Americans.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_05]: I also had this issue that I have also noticed in, not just Marvel films, but in a lot of films that kids being put in cages has kind of been done so tropey now that we're not, it doesn't impact us the way that it should.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_05]: We should be shocked to see this and usually it's kind of written off of a, oh, let's go get them, that I really wanted it to be a kind of a traumatic experience for Jubilee to be like, I can't believe we're here again and not only that,
- 7:29[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to talk about this Jubilee scene, but I'm noticing this as a consumer of pop culture lately in the last few years.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_04]: The pit for those that watch it in season two have ice agents arresting a doctor for trying to interfere with them offering medical support to a patient.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_04]: Law and order SPU had a story where like a little girl who's Hispanic has been pulled from her mom and then gets sexually assaulted and sold into human trafficking out of an ice.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_04]: cage.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_04]: Even Daredevil, the recent Disney run.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's like the Kingpin rounding up people putting them in cages and like protests and fighting back.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_04]: Like this is a theme that feels so uncomfortable, but it's fascism alive and well.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_04]: But Emmett, we have to talk about this Jubilee scene.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god, it's so good.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_05]: It was actually a really brief moment in the script, originally, but because I wanted to go so hard on what she's realizing in seeing kids and cages, I thought well now we have to go hardcore fun.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_05]: Because the thing is, we kind of all as kids growing up as superheroes are waiting for superheroes to come save us.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_05]: And I was like, Jubilee's kind of the perfect example now.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_05]: No, she is the ex-man in the room.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_05]: And she's gonna kick ass.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_05]: It's time for her to step up.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_05]: I also pitched it to our overseas team, our Korean team when I was handing out the assignments to them for animation.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_05]: I was just saying, there's a long rhetoric in Asia, America, but kind of Asian culture of like, don't be the nail that sticks up where you'll get hammered down.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_05]: And I was like, so this is our chance to kind of show that no, we're ready to stand up, we're ready to be, you know, activists, we're ready to be the heroes that we need, we're past that we're past being the the good citizen necessarily because that is good citizenship is actually standing up for your fellow citizens.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, so so I said we're going to set it to a song and David out.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_05]: The assistant director picked an awesome song and he boarded it to it.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_05]: And we tried as hard as we could to get that song, killing in the name of by Raid.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_05]: But they're very, very protective of that song.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_05]: Sean tried.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_05]: Sean could probably tell you, they tried.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: They're personally made, but it was about figuring out, you know, something that, you know, worked for, for budget.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that too.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_04]: There are so many pieces we could talk about with this episode.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_04]: One I really want to highlight, although we could literally take a two hour episode just on that episode.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_04]: Maggie, the little girl in the cage.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_04]: There's a super famous series called The Marvels, then by Kurt Bucie, who's the type of writer I aspire to be where.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_04]: Daily bugle photographer Phil Sheldon is dealing with kind of anti mutant prejudice in the world as a reporter.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_04]: He comes home one day.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_04]: His two little girls are playing with this little homeless mutant girl who kind of looks like a little green alien with pig tails.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_04]: And she's super innocent and he tries to protect her and she ends up like running and having sent animals come after her and she's like five or six or seven years old.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_04]: seeing her as the child in this because she's never really a character that shone up in the X man.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm assuming a lot of fans thought she was a new character, but she's special.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_04]: Go read the marbles if you never have.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_04]: It's wonderful.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and she ran away from home because she was afraid of being a burden to her parents.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: like she was afraid of what her mutant hood was going to bring her family and then ran away.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I've actually really loved and that's something that I remember specifically when we were looking at this episode like we knew a number of the kids that we, you know, we're going to want
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: present to be able to eventually populate the school and like what we're going to do with like other storylines and things like that, but we're trying to come up with a number of options that would be sort of that focal person that like really sort of hits it.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_05]: It might have been Frank, our genius girl, right?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, because he's good at that.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_05]: And he's the one who brought me glob, bless him.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_05]: But I think it was him and David Owl.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_05]: And because actually, I'll be honest, when I first saw her, I was like, I don't know, guys.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_05]: She looks like an alien.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, oh my God, what am I doing?
- 11:26[SPEAKER_05]: That's the point.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_05]: She looks shocking.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_05]: And that's why she was rounded up.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_05]: Because she's not like the other kids who have powers that are going crazy, because they can't control them.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_05]: She was born that way.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_05]: She's, she's, she's, she's like, you're more lock.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_04]: She doesn't look that different from leech.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't exactly.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_04]: And just to side note to your earlier comment, Emmett, the only person Jubilee wants to be nailed down by a sun spot.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_04]: We're very, we're going to put that up.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, absolutely.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_05]: And boy, do they.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_04]: So Shana want to ask you a little about source material here.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_04]: You guys are clearly leaning hard into 90s tropes, which is excellent.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_04]: I love the bit in the opening credits where we see the title cards for all the features being featured.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_04]: And episode two has the X-Force lineup, which is shocking and wonderful silaq with her British accent, which was the right choice, of course.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_04]: But we see X-Force, we see X-Factor.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_04]: But in these other spaces, we're leaning hard into limited series that a lot of modern X-Men fans may not have read, like the Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, and the Rise of Apocalypse.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_04]: how much of this was on the drawing board like from the very beginning when Bo was kind of at the helm, I'm still seeing his name come up in episodes despite no longer being affiliated, what sort of source material you did you have to find?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean look, the thing is like, one thing that's really nice about, I feel like it's the case in animation, just in general, is like when someone does work, like credit gets, you know, given where credit is due,
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that that also goes what's really fun for me is if everyone is like interested or ever wondering sort of like, oh, what source material are they pulling from with if you watch the credits it's like the very end there's like a special thanks thing and it will list out authors and artists from comic runs like there's a specific team like that is aware of comics that we are referencing.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_02]: And look, that's been the M.O.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_02]: like for the show from jump, largely based on what the Lee Wald and Larry were doing, we call them mom and dad in Uncle Larry, but it's, you know, it starts with what they were doing in the 90s where like a lot of their biggest storylines and their most impactful things are adaptations of these amazing comic stories.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_02]: And so a lot of those, like, you know, they're pulling me, it's so easy to pull from Clairemon, right, like you can't really go wrong pulling from a Clairemon run, but it is really fun to sort of dip into some of, there's some, there's some bad, there's some stuff you know,
- 13:48[SPEAKER_02]: You know, but there's so, but it is kind of interesting because there's so many things that we can play with and like, and I want to say that like, I mean, I can't speak to this fully like I'm not the one writing the episodes and things like that, but like us being able to lean into some of those more obscure comic lines or comic references and maybe pushing the envelope a little of like doing our spin on things in a way that it's like if you really boil it down.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: Here, I can provide you the comic references for why this is allowable doable exists in our universe.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: But like, it either references, and like there's, we're always gonna have people that are very familiar with the slim and red storyline.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: And like, I've definitely saw some people that are like, I don't think it's one episode that should have been a whole season.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, if I could afford to a full season of like all of these awesome comic runs, we absolutely would.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a, I'm just amazing place in my life right now where the first season came out.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I've been in the comics room for a long time as a handbook writer and all that, but when I was first meeting you guys at like the cons and things that like on can't be experienced and through interviewing people on the show, I've defended a lot of people.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_04]: So just using the rise of a apocalypse as an example, I'm very close personal friends with Terry Kavanaugh who's the writer of that series and I've also had Adam Palena who did all the designs on that series.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_04]: So to see their names in the credits,
- 15:09[SPEAKER_04]: while hearing my friends like Lynn Orzad and Giagli Steady like in the show, but also seeing like Emma and Chase and Shawn like like I'm like, yeah, like my friends are so beautifully at all of this.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_04]: What place does Apocalypse hold in the mutant kind of triptych with like Xavier Magneto and Apocalypse being these focal points?
- 15:27[SPEAKER_04]: There's some interesting things shaping out this season.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, I think that all of us, especially the group with the 90s show kind of specifically, because there's a lot of us that I think watched the 90s show.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like I got into comics like more because of the 90s show.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't the other way around.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I think a lot of us like are sort of that way.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: And there's something about apocalypse.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's really only in a handful of like storylines within those five seasons.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: But there's something really impactful about him as
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: And then what's interesting is when you start getting into the comics of him and realizing the like the for lack of a better just a brutality of that character and like why you should legitimately like be afraid of him and then looking at the 90 show realizing like they couldn't do any of that.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: They couldn't play in that sphere to them because they were literally just making a kid's cartoon going on quote and like had to be very careful.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: So then when we get to play a little like in our world and we can actually take those moments and say like, oh, we can make him pretty brutal and we can make the the fear of him pretty visceral and like warranted and not just felt like I think that the lee walls and Larry again did a wonderful job.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we did this repeat in the movies too.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_04]: We here goes, it goes Magneto Phoenix Apocalypse.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_04]: This is usually the order.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_05]: We need a pot.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_04]: It's true.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_05]: It's very sexy.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_05]: I love this triple couple between him and Magneto and Xavier.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_05]: I'm like, oh,
- 16:57[SPEAKER_04]: That episode for the purely silent ending as spoilers ever would.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_04]: If you haven't seen it, Magneto gets like incinerated at the end.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_04]: Apocalypse just steps over Xavier.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_04]: Really, really powerful stuff.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm also loving the nuggets like and that you can talk to us about the first horseman of Apocalypse if you like, where we get like decimus furious and like you just do me.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_04]: And these like really creepy horror characters that show up, it's great.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_05]: They're so ridiculous too, like the drummer boy.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_05]: At first, we were like, come on, civil war era drummer boy.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_05]: But then actually when we were looking at what his powers are, we're like, oh my god, like the summers would actually be like legit dead.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_05]: Like right now, like there's no way they could actually handle any of these people.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_05]: So we had to use a little bit of, you know, TV magic to be like, they're fine.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_05]: They're just knocked out.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_05]: But I love how almost ridiculous these characters look.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_05]: At first, like, even my husband, he didn't recognize them when he saw that the Japanese character with the fan in front of her.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_05]: He was like, oh, and then when she opens her mouth and like all the all the bugs come out, he was like, oh, it's great because they're so tropey and what these characters are.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_05]: They're so comic booky that at first, you're kind of like, come on.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_05]: Like, the X-Men can handle this.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_05]: some are saying it will be fine.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_05]: But then you see them just take them out immediately.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm like, oh, I love how ridiculous comics can be.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_05]: I love how ridiculous that this can feel and how threatening these characters are.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_04]: In the comics, Warren goes full death archangel and fathers two children with that Japanese woman.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_04]: He has this.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_04]: There's a storyline called the Apocalypse Twins.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_04]: And that's the mother of the twins.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_04]: I'm an endurial, which is crazy.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_04]: Cut.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_04]: Do it.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_05]: I love that and I want that as well like a side like a side movie.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_05]: Like I want to see that.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_04]: I have a long list of Patreon characters to cover, but it just goes on and on forever.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_04]: And did you have thoughts on the place the apocalypse fills in the the kind of Xavier Magneto dream divide?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I love it.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_05]: I think he is the perfect character to set up against them.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_05]: Someone that they can kind of agree on, like that something has to be done about this guy.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_05]: But I think he just creates the most interesting kind of conflict actually between them.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_05]: I love the debates, the moral debates that he presents.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_05]: It's like he kind of almost turns them into the god in the, you know, god in the devil having that chess game of what do we do about this?
- 19:18[SPEAKER_05]: Because he's just so powerful that I think
- 19:22[SPEAKER_05]: and a lot of sexiness now, which I'm very glad he got animated so well in both forms.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, okay, time travel is something I've been exploring a lot on in my research lately.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_04]: Kang the conqueror, Ramotot, all the time travel crazy.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_04]: There's time travel that is fun.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_04]: And then there's time travel that gives you a headache.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_04]: And we are right on the border of one into the other in these earlier episodes of season, our characters are split across different timelines, but we've now started creating time loops.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_04]: I was trying to explain this to some friends the other day.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_04]: So if we look at episode four, if we look at our present from the place that we measure things, characters from the present have gone back to the past where a child from the present has been left to be raised by a woman from the future.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_04]: That's cable, other is Scotty.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_04]: But this up from a different divergent future has come back to the present and has taken our characters back to the past.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_04]: But this is also the way it's always gone in our timeline because you can't change the timeline without creating a new branch.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_04]: So even though Bishop's future is not guaranteed as the future that will come from ours, the character from that future comes to our present travels back into the past and helps shapes the emotion like the events that travel
- 20:38[SPEAKER_04]: like my head's hurting a little bit, but just enough to be okay.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: I will say in in other series that I have worked on time travel is usually like the kiss of death like situation.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like even on we're kind of in a show called Wolf Boy and the Everything Factory which is a wonderful show full of heart.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's one of my favorite projects I've worked on, but we had a time travel episode and like it's it's more like kid cartoon all this stuff and just the difficulties the time travel
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: I will say that like I think that if we think too much about it then we find ourselves like in the potential headache of like looking at it like and when it's described and boiled down the way that like you just laid out it's very like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: like, you know, like, it's what is happening.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: But I think that if we take a step back and just sort of look at it, I think the way that it's presented just as a suspend the disbelief and like, look, these people are in the present, these people are in the past, these people are in the future, they did a thing and then they go back.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_04]: Your viewers are more sophisticated than you give them credit for.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: for sure.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying that they won't be able to, but there's a fine line.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_02]: But the interesting thing is like, I'm always fascinated by what people, what the assumptions people make based on like time travel.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like I saw a number of like, you know, tweets and posts that were like, you know, died in the past.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: That means like, Polaris is never going to exist.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, well, no, that's not how it works.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: Just because he died in the past, doesn't mean he no longer existed all.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_04]: Like there's still eight years or however it was from the present.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_04]: And he had already
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: Or the facility, you know, like it's always to the point like for me, if you want to have the real fun try and follow ship, where does, where is ship start and wind up, but it's just an interesting because and that we're trying into, you know, the original show right we're like a apocalypse showed up to try and get ship as a weapon that then would allow him the ability to try and travel.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_04]: She says a wild comics history, everybody will do an episode someday.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: for sure, you know, and funny enough on our show, ship is voiced by the actor who is married to the voice actor of Magneto.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_02]: Um, racial is, is Matthew's wife, which is just funny.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: It looked like the little cables little talking cube is Magneto's wife.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, another big theme in the show this season is destiny and like four ordination a little bit apocalypse is a former slave magneto is a concentration camps survivor this gives the two of them a very different and unique perspective on the world and Xavier being the one with the dream that he grew up in privilege right like he sees the world a lot differently.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_04]: Emmett, we see Apocalypse kind of face his court on court destiny.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_04]: The X-Men try to change him, but then he goes full cosmic evil.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_04]: And then that like he's coming face to face with his God with the Celestials is such a bold move in the show.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_05]: Actually, since I can't talk about it, there's actually a character who got really pulled back from the series called Aussie Mandius.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_05]: So you do see him in episode out on with the old good good yeah, he, you know, we see we do see him in episode one serving apocalypse in the future, but he was actually, I think it's okay to talk about this right, he was actually the, I guess the, the pharaoh who in subunner cut the head off of.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_05]: But to be fair, and I agree with them.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_05]: The exact same for like, we're starting to get really confused with all these characters and how this is happening.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_05]: But what Chase and I really loved about that originally being Aussie Mandius is you watch him going from being the slave owner to then serving apocalypse.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_05]: and there was just some really beautiful poetry that was tied into that that I was like we understood that it's like we're getting too many characters we're getting too many timelines this is confusing how can this head be cut off here but then he's like a sand form over here but the poetry of it was just something that was kind of like oh we could just push that a little bit more
- 24:30[SPEAKER_05]: But I think that it still all comes through.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_05]: I'm really glad that Enzabanor's past when Xavier is going through his mind is still very present so that he's almost sympathetic, that you see what he's gone through, that kind of what motivates him, that Navity does have this ultimate power, what can he do with it, and what he chooses to do with it.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_05]: From the beginning, those thoughts and those themes were always on our minds, and we just wanted to make sure that we were kind of doing them with like, well, you know?
- 24:56[SPEAKER_05]: How would you feel in in in in someone's position?
- 24:59[SPEAKER_05]: Because I think if I then had access to unlimited power and I knew what the world was like and so far with I had seen of the world was pretty awful.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe I would go ballistic.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_04]: But also also, you know, there is a real threat with mutants in the world's route.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_04]: Well, right?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_04]: Like if they go evil, they are capable of killing millions, which is what we see in that kind of devastated future.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, there's a lot of really beautiful themes.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_04]: I want to explore one specific thing I have to ask about as a super fan I got to pitch a book tomorrow last year about the origins of Xavier one of the things I really wanted to do in that book was finally used for just real name in a comic book which they've never done and a rural call some Daniel like out loud in this series Ashande you want to talk about that journey
- 25:38[SPEAKER_04]: if there's a story to tell.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't, I don't know that story, but here's a story about it.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_04]: Claremont has kind of off the record revealed that the real name is Daniel Loneagle, but they've never set it in the comics out loud.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_04]: And so to hear Oraro call him Daniel was like, yeah, because he's just forged in the comics.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_04]: Like, when the equipedia, it says name unrevealed.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I knew that we were referring to him as Daniel and I knew that that came from comic, like, or at least confirmed, like, when we were not making that up, like we didn't pick a name out of the hat, he's Daniel, I think that was Brian, because I think he wrote that part of the episode, because the episode has been kind of recut and reorganized for those partners.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_05]: But I think that was Brian, because he did really great research, and so when we were working on that, I mean, he knew those little intimate moments that I love those tidbits.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_05]: On the other hand, as a fun little fact, I guess, on the show because we were pairing fortune storms together.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_05]: We as a crew called them storage or form, but we felt like storage was more accurate as a couple of names.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_04]: So I hate them together so much.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_05]: You know like storage come on.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_04]: I like both characters.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_04]: I hate them together.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_05]: I think that they're interesting I feel like even when we're trying to give them chemistry it's really hard to get it across Like there's just something that's never gonna work It's almost like you have that couple where you're like, I love both of you But you're a terrible couple because I just know that your your energies aren't right for each other
- 27:00[SPEAKER_02]: I just had the moment that you did with them in episode one of season two like of sitting on the cliff side was like the the the best chemistry that we've had for them so far I do think and what helped me in season one was actually some of the animation for it.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like if you if you go back and you watch like when there's a scene where he walks it behind her and he grabs like her right hand and turns her around and kind of passes her hand to then grab across and if you walk like it is so beautifully animated for no reason like this is not like an amazing fight sequence where we need all this stuff like it is.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: Corges and so like that always made me like love it that much more like because it was just so beautiful to watch in our medium that I sort of have that affinity like for But with that with that conversation that they have on the on the cliff side of them saying like I'm a man of science and you're a woman of faith.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_05]: It's like yeah, I think at the end of the day that's kind of what's not going to work for you too, but I love that you guys are trying
- 28:00[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I'm going to ask five one word questions.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_04]: You can say yes, no or pass or passes completely fine.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_04]: X-Men 97 season two strife.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_04]: That's cable's evil clone from the future.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_05]: No.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, onslaught.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_04]: We're seeing it.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_04]: Xavier has a magneto helmet.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_04]: Pass.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_04]: a savage land.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, you know what?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_05]: From when this airs?
- 28:25[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, obviously.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to see more savage land.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_04]: I actually might pause it there.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to just ask those three.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_04]: My fourth one.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_04]: Generation X. I think it's a little lobby.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: Can I add a third word and just say indirectly, like yes, indirectly.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: Members are present.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: And then I will say this a fun fun fact about my history.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_02]: And I may have told you this, Chad, like when in our conversations, but
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: When I was 11, like I drew a picture of myself and what I wanted to be when I grew up and at that point it's time I wanted to be an anchor and I wanted to Ink the lines for generation exconics and also at Disney television and feature animation generation X would be a BL end all for me because like it would make my 11 year old self even more of a proud investigator than I guess I am pretty well.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_05]: basically Sean is saying he would have died of happiness.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_05]: He would have we would have heard this scream across the world of Glee and he'd be dead.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I have seen some of this stuff and it's just like, you know, about like, oh, they could lead lead into generation X and someone was like, and that's led by Emma and Banshee and I was like, he did.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_05]: Sorry.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_04]: So the failings question mark.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_04]: And then my final one, if we're leaning 90s, Cassandra Nova, okay.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_04]: That's Xavier's evil twins.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, because we weren't allowed to touch her.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_05]: We weren't allowed to use her because Deadpool.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_04]: You should have heard.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_04]: You just, you shouldn't.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I don't know.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_05]: I've heard Deadpool did her pretty well.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_04]: I'm really excited to see where things go.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_04]: Can you guys give maybe three words each?
- 29:59[SPEAKER_04]: We're recording this by the way, everyone, after episode four is dropped.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_04]: But by the time we release this, there will only be one episode left.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_04]: Can you give us three words of what we have to look forward to?
- 30:10[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sworn to secrecy, but as a fanboy and your friend, I am ready to go.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, for the two episodes remaining when this comes out, or for like what you are all.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_04]: You get to choose to be three words that you feel safe.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_04]: So maybe maybe you do up so it's that haven't come out.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, just get it.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: You do the remainder of season two and then I'll try to think of things for, oh, the remainder of season two, okay.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_05]: Not jeans cooking.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_05]: I think that works right, Sean.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: I have no idea.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_02]: My initial thought is to do it.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: Three of the same word, uh, which is more, more, more.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_05]: Can't do that.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_05]: But how about Bishop finds meaning for the ones that are already out?
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: They should find meaning.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_02]: Um, Bishop didn't lose the baby.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_05]: Um, well, I don't know what that means.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: I guess he did.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: Someone found the baby.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, look, guys, multiple timelines.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_05]: That's a different bishop now.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: For future seasons, we'll go with this.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: Even more cameo.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yay.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_04]: I'm so pumped.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_04]: I love seeing the two of you interact with each other.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_04]: I know how fond of you, each other you both are.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_04]: And I met several of your contemporaries.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_04]: If you got some people that you know would love to be on the show and like would you be delighted be here, should be a pig.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_04]: It'd be super fun to feature incredible talent.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_05]: I will say lots of people would love to be here.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_05]: It's more a matter of if they're allowed to be here.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_04]: I'd be careful with what we talk about though.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_04]: We don't have to talk about anything spoilers.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_04]: Well, and I know we mentioned that earlier, but right up your alley and this would be right up his would be Frank.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_04]: I haven't had Frank other ones.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_04]: I would love to have Frank back.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_04]: What a great one.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's right.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: We're not the other Frank.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so yeah, good.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_02]: Frank, that dude is, you know, you want to deep dive on anything.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_04]: Frank, I feel like we're the same person.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I would agree with that because you are both just delightful and very thoughtful.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: He would be being so nice to me.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_04]: Now on my show, we've been doing script reads to open the show every month.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_04]: If you listen, we have an X-Men group and Avengers group because Beast is in the Avengers.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_04]: In the 70s, Ice Man and Angel have joined the champions alongside the weirdest team.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_04]: This was initially created by Jenny Isabella who was using the name Tony at the time.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_04]: Jenny has come out as
- 32:14[SPEAKER_04]: few years.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_04]: All of these issues in the Champions read is crazy, queer, it's ridiculous.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_04]: Ice Man, Angel Black Widow, Hercules, and Ghost Rider.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_04]: I know we have some feelings about this lineup before we even launch in, but the three of us were texting about Ghost Rider a little bit earlier.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_04]: Do you want to share some early Ghost Rider thoughts?
- 32:33[SPEAKER_04]: Go Strider when he first shows up, he does make the deal with the devil.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_04]: It is a demon, but it's really like an evil connevil comic book in the 70s until it goes full horror later, even though he's like flesh isn't melting into a skull and he's like shooting a hellfire at things, you know?
- 32:47[SPEAKER_04]: Shutter, you a go Strider fan?
- 32:49[SPEAKER_02]: I am, but I think that for me, like we were talking about earlier today, like the... For me, it's Danny Catch, like the 90s.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know, a little leaning a little more horror, but like super badass ghost director in that way, you know, I respect for Johnny Blaze.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: I like some of the crossovers that they end up having like in some of those 90s comic runs.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: Um, it's actually interesting to think as far as like straight up comic storylines and runs like I actually think that the ghost writer comics are better stories than some of the 90s X men stuff.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_04]: way.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_04]: 70's Ghost Rider comics are nuts.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_04]: My friend Michael Hamm has been voicing Ghost Strider.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_04]: He's like a pin up model basically.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_04]: He's so beautiful.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_04]: And he does this like Southern accent of suffering suffer in the oxen.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_04]: I got to get out the skull.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_04]: Like he's really, it's really funny.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_04]: And then are you a Ghost Rider fan?
- 33:35[SPEAKER_05]: Not a huge one.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_05]: You think you'd be right up my alley, but you know, just something it just never clicked never clicked for me, even the even the Nick cage films, they just it just never clicked and I feel like I should like the more than I do it's okay, especially the cage films that they're strictly fine.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_04]: So, the group, as we are hitting them in continuity, have recently added the character Laney of Petrol, not or Darkstar to their ranks.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_04]: There's a big, giant mission.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_04]: We just finished the script read it.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_04]: We'll have come out just before this episode where she joins the team officially.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_04]: She's a powerhouse.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_04]: It is crazy to me that she's never had more to do with the X-Men, because I think this is like a storm level character.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_04]: She's insanely powerful and has a ton of potential.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_04]: Solania is here on the team as a new member Warren has just inherited his parents billions and like built his team a skyscraper And like bought them all uniforms and they're all running around and they're what they call the champs craft with a little sea logo on it This is a crazy it's a crazy little time in history even die heart Xman fans a lot of them don't know anything about the champions I'm gonna assume this was your first four a into this 70s craziness for both of you
- 34:44[SPEAKER_05]: I liked the grouping, though.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_05]: I really was like, you know, I'm kind of into this.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_05]: I said, they just, they do some, they do the women dirty.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's, it's, it's interesting too, because they just nominated Black Widow to be the leader of the team in the book.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_04]: So she's like a second wave feminist like Russian defector.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, until they don't listen to it, they're like, yeah.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_04]: they're here at all.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_04]: She just has to be the mom a little bit.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_04]: This is Iron Man and you will number four from August 1977.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: It's a story called The Doomsday Connection.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_04]: The writers, uh, on this is Bill Mantlow, uh, George Tuska on pencils, Don Perlen on Inks, Phil Rachelson on Colors, John Castanza on Letters, Archie Goodwin is the editor.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_04]: and I'm not personally familiar with any of these creative talents, although I've read so many Bill Matlow and George Tuskeh stories over the years.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, Don Perlin of course as well.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_04]: Don Perlin is one of the creators that really made Ice Man queer in the late 80s.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_04]: At this point, it's just kind of a funny gag to know he's queer.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_04]: Ice Man has imprinted himself on Dark Star in this, but almost every line of dialogue from him in the 70s book is him either flirting with Hercules, Ghost Rider, or Angel, although none of it's intended to be flirtatious.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_04]: straighted white guy with like ice powers, but he's like, they're calling like Darkstar his girlfriend here, she did not consent to this, just like Polaris in the earlier comics.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, the cover promises twice the action twice the thrills.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's the champion in Iron Man teaming up against the might of Motoc and this cover is chaos.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_04]: Do you want to talk about the cover, the perspectives?
- 36:10[SPEAKER_04]: And can I get your one two punch on a Motoc as a visual?
- 36:14[SPEAKER_05]: I love Motoc as a visual because he's so out there.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_05]: I'm just like, this is what comic the comic medium is for.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_05]: This is what animation is for.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_05]: I think that his CG was very unfinished in the films.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm like, no, they did him dirty because what a character.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_05]: One amazing character.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_05]: I love this comic cover because I think that all the action actually screams fun.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_05]: There's good lines of direction in it, the guy's your eye around.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_05]: It just, it does look like it's gonna have double twice the action, twice the thrills, which uh,
- 36:45[SPEAKER_05]: It definitely has moments.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_04]: It's a fun silly Saturday morning cartoon kind of story, which is fun.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, the doomsday connection.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_04]: Iron Man being the focal point here.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_04]: He's going through a bunch of shit in his own book.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_04]: We don't need to worry about it right now.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_04]: Matt a mask is all over his book in this era.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_04]: And she's fun.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_04]: Sean, what are your thoughts on 70s Iron Man armor?
- 37:03[SPEAKER_04]: And which X-Men character would do the best work with an Iron Man armor suit?
- 37:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well, I mean, this is Iron Man's roller skates era.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_04]: He has a roller skates to pop out the bottom as soon.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, he's got a he's got a amazing.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, for me, it's the we talked about this earlier too, like the I think it's the third page.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: You got the shot from behind where he's got like the the butt ruffles.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm assuming it's in our articulation to allow for flexibility of the glutes.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't know, the suit, I mean, the helmet is pretty iconic.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_02]: And what you would expect from a 70s, like, I don't think that I understand the functionality of it in certain respects.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: Do you like the color scheme, the silver and red here?
- 37:42[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, like the, yeah, I think that it's.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's cool.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_02]: I like the, um, I mean, it's much more blocky than some of the costumes that you'll get.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: And so like it's like this area's red.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_02]: This is like a probably easier to color.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then it's far as like which X man would do well in in the 70s Ironman suit.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, I think you already kind of hinted at it.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_05]: If it's got roller blades, you know who's going to be.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yeah, I mean, you can read an Iron Man suit would be pretty badass.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: I also somehow, like, I, I mean, maybe this is just my bias, but like, somehow I think beast would do pretty awesome in in a suit.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_05]: Like, I don't see the suit and tie.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_04]: He wanted to end up with the Kowa Emma Frost, Mary's Tony Stark, and briefly gets an Iron Man suit.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, that's pretty hot.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_04]: And then during the recent age of revelation, there was an iron and frost limited series about this.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_04]: So Emma Frost and Ironman suit is kind of exciting.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_05]: She does like to chase money and he is Prima Donna enough for her.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_04]: I do feel like we'll catch that for the rivals.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_05]: Very toxic.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, that's an interesting crossover.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_05]: Is that how we get 90s Ironman into the show?
- 38:46[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, Jerry Duggen just wrote a five-part Wonderman series because Wonderman was on Disney+, and Hellcat, who's one of my favorite characters, who recently, like, almost married Iron Man.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_04]: She was fucking Iron Man for a while.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_04]: She says to Wonderman in the comics, like, basically all of the Avengers have been fucked by Iron Man, and he goes, yeah, that brings up a source bot, because he put me in prison, so it's kind of the same thing.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_05]: So we're spot, but um, I mean I love that and I love Jerry Duggan and I'm so glad he wrote that.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_05]: That's amazing.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, George Tarleton is Motoc.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_04]: He once got transformed by aim, which is advanced idea mechanics into becoming a super weapon.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of his early stories, I've done the trial of Motoc out there.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_04]: If you want to go have a whole academic analysis of this character, we have an excellent time.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_04]: He's a big giant head.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_04]: We compare him in that episode to those little people that used to get made out of like shriveled up apple cores.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_04]: If you look up like apple core people, you'll know what I'm talking about.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_04]: It's a horrifying realization.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_04]: As I need limbs, he can't really walk around so he has to have like a support chair.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_04]: And in this issue, he has a doomsday chair.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_04]: Now, this is giving Professor X in some ways.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_04]: It's a giant head.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_04]: It's a telepath.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot of weird scruples and he needs mobility support.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_04]: Never really seen a Professor X versus Maudoc fight.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_04]: But now don't you just want to see a giant Charles Xavier head in a chair?
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, but I want it done in the style of the pattern as well.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like show.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, that that Monarch.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: I think is potentially one of my favorite Monarch and a patience.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_04]: That was one of the Odox series.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_04]: This is amazing.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_04]: If you haven't seen it, there's so many Easter eggs.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_04]: We're not going to talk about Monarch's recent history, but he supposedly died.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_04]: He's also use Serping power from aim and has started his own group.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_04]: And we see him every once in a while not in yellow beekeeper suits.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_04]: Here.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_04]: He has patterned them in baby blue suits sometimes.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_04]: Pink or other colors, but here they're in baby blue.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_04]: Ironman is fighting a giant robot.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_04]: He's looking for Motog.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_04]: Where are you?
- 40:41[SPEAKER_04]: Motog?
- 40:41[SPEAKER_04]: Motog?
- 40:42[SPEAKER_04]: Power is going out across the Pacific coast.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_04]: And he decides maybe I should reach out to the new spectacular super team, the champions who are based in Los Angeles.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_04]: When he arrives, all the boys want to have a super powered orgy, like, they always do.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_04]: They're like, get in and they're firing at each other and black widow has to come in and be like, mother tells you to knock it off and they're like, sorry mom, it's very, very, very silly.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_04]: Do we have thoughts on these early pages of Iron Man versus the big green robot?
- 41:12[SPEAKER_04]: There's a lot of primary color backgrounds.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_04]: The artist's degree is using a ton of like, pinks and greens to just kind of like make, or yellows like to make swaths of color behind the heroes.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_05]: I actually really like him finding the robots.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_05]: I thought it was interesting to see the juxtaposition of, I mean, the action in the art, I think is really pretty.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_05]: It's funny that he's constantly like, oh my god, I'm really struggling here, but he doesn't say that to them.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_05]: He's like, oh, I got you.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_05]: You can't get me even though he like on this his internal monologue is very like, oh my god, one more hit and I'm done.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_05]: But then when he does go to seek the champions for help, it's very interesting that as soon as he basically breaks in, he starts
- 41:48[SPEAKER_04]: his suit runs out of power.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_04]: So he like crashes through the window.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, later than interprets as an attack.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't have to like, we should have demons attacking me.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it's just so it's so toxic from the beginning.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_05]: Because it's a me thing is I have to fight this guy and I'm like, but you invaded their space.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like yeah, I think my favorite panel of that part of it is when she's literally punching Ghostwriter in the face while saying look I said I was sorry and I meant it.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, I'm gonna punch you in the face again Black Widow's pose that she enters to tell them to knock it off.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_04]: It's like arms wide She is like that suit could not be any tighter.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_04]: It is painted on with her little tiny belt and she's like god damn it
- 42:32[SPEAKER_04]: And the Iron Man said, oh, oh, she's so beautiful.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_04]: That's his first thought.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_02]: Well, there's a tangent with that as well.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like, so I was reading this initially, like, on the iPad and doing like kind of the zoom version, where it will go from panel to panel instead of the whole page at the same time.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: Curculies is hand is right where her leg would be.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: And so to me, it read as one leg closed and one leg with no cloth.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I see, sure.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: And so it was just a weird, like, so it was even more confusing.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_02]: But she's in this like, Christ on a cross pose and only has one nude leg.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_02]: I was a weird.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, it was about the love.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_05]: She was she is like, I do love the 70s was like, no body fat is okay.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_05]: And look at how curvy she is.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_05]: I actually was like, when she entered, I'm like, I'm listening.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_05]: Whatever you want to say, just say, yeah, that's not fighting to.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_04]: The destroyer is in black leather.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_04]: Hercules is in his like skirt with like sash, but basically shirtless.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_04]: Iceman is iced up that has like a V-neck here.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_04]: So it's like over the V-neck.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_04]: An angel is just rebranded his old blue costume with the halo in the middle to make it red.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_04]: They're in the champion's skyscraper.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_04]: And Iron Man pulls out a little mini projector and projects the ugliest fucking image of Motoc on the wall.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, I need your help.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_04]: Goin' after this motherfucker.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_05]: I'd be like, sign me up.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_05]: This guy looks amazing.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_05]: I want to be his friend.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_05]: I want to be Motok's friend.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_04]: Glob, Herman, Motok.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_05]: Glob could reach him.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_05]: Glob would be able to do it with the power of friendship.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_04]: Or we just create Glodock.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_04]: It's just a joke.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_05]: Is that the couple name?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_05]: I love this.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_04]: So Iron Man's like, I know that there's a big super weapon being built.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know exactly where it is.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_04]: So I have tracked three aim bases across the state of California.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_04]: One in the Redwood National Forest, one in San Francisco, and one in the Mojave Desert.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_04]: And then in Walks Dark Star, who is also just fucking gorgeous.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_04]: Sean, do you want to talk about Dark Stars, the costume?
- 44:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I thought it was, in principle, I'm not.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know a ton about Dark Star as a character.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: I know that she made a candy on our show, but like the, um... Stay tuned for the Dark Star two weeks after this episode.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_05]: That's actually the finale literally I'll teach you all about her.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: I love her.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think she's amazing She's interesting like and I think and you know to and it's point like with like widow coming in and so forth Like it's another like woman coming in and the way that she sort of enters like by phasing through things is very like pay attention to me But it's also very like okay
- 45:04[SPEAKER_04]: But we think of like more of a super hero women up to this point.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think of a lot of blondes.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_04]: In fact, kind of the only one I can think of is Gwen Stacy.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_04]: If I'm honest, which has nothing to do with the X-Men at all.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_04]: She's in this like, she's got like a black skull cap.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_04]: And then the hair flows out behind it.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_04]: Like very cinched black top with like flowy sleeves.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_04]: This necklace she wears keeps her connected to the dark force.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_04]: And then like almost like tight leggings.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_04]: She's super fucking powerful.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_04]: She walks in and is like, like, I'm on your team.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like, who the fuck are you?
- 45:33[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, so she is their angel takes the lead and divides them up into three teams three champions at one site three champions at the other and then Iron Man all by himself terrible terrible grouping because also When you find out later on this one of these groups isn't getting along to begin with and I'm like what kind of leadership is this maybe you should have listened to Black Widow has also just the whole everyone's going to do this on those Black Widow has a problem with it, but here's the orders on my
- 45:57[SPEAKER_05]: guy could out of here.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_05]: But also, can I point out that Iron Man kind of pegging where Aim, aim, one of Aim's location, he says San Francisco, but really it's Silicon Valley before Silicon Valley, like, was really getting and going.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_05]: So kind of good on him to bad.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_05]: They weren't there, but good on him.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_04]: Wait, who is Iron Man pegging?
- 46:14[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, the, the three little shots where I'm just, I mean, you're right.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, everybody, I'm sorry, the proper response was everybody.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Hercules is canonically by at least, right?
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: By at least in an alternate universe by hitting Wolverine.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_04]: No, he's by in our universe.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_04]: I got to interview you and all about making Hercules canonically bisexual.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, cool.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_05]: Nice.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_02]: I know there's something that some people hide behind with the Wolverine of a dog.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I go out to an alternate universe, Wolverine.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that one, that one, he's very, very, too Wolverine.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_04]: That's a very different reality.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_04]: Have either of you been to the Redwoods?
- 46:44[SPEAKER_04]: If so, do you have a good Redwoods story?
- 46:46[SPEAKER_04]: I've never been.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, how ironic, uh, yeah, no, I love it.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_05]: And when I was there as a kid, it's where I learned about coral snakes.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_05]: I learned the poem, you know, and then I have this very vivid memory that I've actually been wanting to animate recently of as we were leaving, like a swarm of ladybugs came through and just covered me.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_05]: And I thought that it was the most magical thing in the world, but the redwoods
- 47:09[SPEAKER_05]: you have to see them to believe how big these trees are.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_05]: Like they have ones where they're like, yeah, back in the 1800s, they cut down the street and they turned it into an entire like dance area because it's so big.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_05]: It can be.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, first off, why did you cut it down for your stupid dance?
- 47:25[SPEAKER_05]: She'd be dancing around that tree.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_05]: But the size of these trees, and I think a Japanese scientist just discovered like actually breathing in trees really actually does help like cure a lot of parts of your body.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_05]: Everybody should go, we should be protecting these trees at all costs.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_05]: It's one of the most magical places on earth that I'm dying to go back to.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_05]: So Chad,
- 47:44[SPEAKER_05]: Next for treat.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_05]: Let's go.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_02]: I want to read words in this in Sequoia, like Sequoia National Horace is like similar.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_02]: There's actually a Sequoia called a Sentinel tree, which I took a picture with just a couple of weeks ago.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: I was on a trip with some high school kids and took a picture with a Sentinel tree and then like added a speech bubble that said hall meetings.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_05]: Where are you going to the woods with teenagers?
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: My wife runs a National Park Exploration Club.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_05]: that's so cool and we go.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_05]: That's awesome.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: That's awesome.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to go to the woods with teenagers.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_02]: This is what I
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, sorry, I will say it's not my favorite way to visit with the nature because they just wander off and like that's not healthy.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_04]: We get only kind of deep character moment here as angel flies through the red woods.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_04]: He is flying by himself away from the ship.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_04]: He says I had to get away from the others.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_04]: It's so seldom I can just be alone to spread my wings and fly.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_04]: Times like this it doesn't matter that I'm immune that I'm different and boy can every queer person relate.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_04]: Hercules, then, says, by my soul, never before Earth, has Hercules felt so asswaged.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_04]: This forest has been blessed by the gods' malady.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_04]: He fully picks Black Widow up without her consent and puts her on his shoulder.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_04]: And she says, oh, these places remind me of Russia what I was a little girl when my father would lift me to his shoulder.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_04]: And then they're like, oh, should we kiss?
- 49:04[SPEAKER_04]: Then they get interrupted by attacking Baby Blue Am agents in their silver tanks.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: And it's such an interesting, like, the, especially, you know, the, the fun stuff between hercules, uh, and black widow, like the, because again, I would never say to this man, you remind me of my daddy want to kiss that is not something.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_05]: No, that's, you remind me of my daddy is an instant wall that you put up to be like, wow, you remind me of my dad, which means we are not making out.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's like the next little beyond friend zone because it's father's own brother.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_04]: Also, this man has not been screening press titties in a while and he sleeps with a lot of people.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_04]: Hercules, I feel so safe in hearing your arms.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_04]: The things I've dead not saved in Tasha, but now, okay, so there's a battle with amagents.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_04]: Hercules rips with redwood out of the ground.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_04]: through them.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_04]: Black Widow says Hercules comes on pretty strong, but what I like in strength I make up for in style.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_04]: Angel's Angel has a moment where he wraps his legs around.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_04]: There's thighs around the head of an agent while evading gunfire.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_04]: Anyway, they all end up defeated.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_04]: Angel has a really awful moment where he gets like wrapped up in this weird net that pins his wings down.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_04]: It's a really dangerous event.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: King Shane come on and Chad don't gloss over the fact that when Angel wraps his legs around the guy's head he says and then there's my way fellas it kind of defies description I tell you his crotch is glowing.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, these comics really queer.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_04]: I'm telling you.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we just maybe why they thought that you know referring to Hercules's daddy was was a thing like in the straight community the west of a thing.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_02]: Well, is it?
- 50:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's fair.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_04]: Not any porn site.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_04]: That's all I'm saying down the California coastline a little bit where our next three Avengers are, excuse me, champions have been looking everywhere that they find a strange installation marked with the letters AIM, which is not good, you know, hiding a base.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_04]: in the San Francisco Bay.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_04]: We have a Darkstar Ghost Rider and Ice Man.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_04]: They have found the baby blue agents we jump in on the action Darkstar is wielding the Dark Force.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_04]: There's a point where Ghost Rider refers to Darkstar as Ice Man's girlfriend, which is just simply not.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_04]: They also end up pretty swiftly defeated because there are some giant fucking seam monsters and like dark star gets hurt like really bad And needs to like go to the ER I see you maybe because she gets knocked out by like a weird crab guy She's knocked out by a tentacle in the back of her head and I'm like, I'm sorry with everything that everybody's going through This is what's on search of the ice.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, it's like a serpent that like yeah, I guess I make something earlier.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah
- 51:51[SPEAKER_04]: That crab monsters really scary.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_04]: Do you like these monsters on it?
- 51:55[SPEAKER_05]: I love them.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_05]: Of course I love them.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_05]: I want them all as my friends.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_05]: I want to I would get there and I would just start swimming outside being like, oh, we're all going to be friends.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_05]: It'll be fine.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_05]: Everything is fine.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_02]: Look at the giant crab appears in one panel.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_02]: Looks super badass.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: And then just isn't very.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_04]: Well, he just is all went to live with a name or in a cave somewhere.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_05]: Brilliant.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_05]: Perfect.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_04]: The sound effect when dark star is knocked out as WAP, which just always gives what I supposed to hit this point at our stage.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_04]: She is underwater.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_04]: So I mean, I just quite literally also as she's getting knocked out.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_04]: Iceman says that you have to assume everything's upon.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_04]: Lania, no good.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_04]: She's out cold.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, good.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_04]: Now we get to the best moment of the entire series.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_04]: Since I've read this and invited you guys, I've been excited to hear Emma's take on this particular scene.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_04]: Ironman has scanned the entire desert and has come across an old friend's to skin mission.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_04]: There is one big buff monk with like an old fryer talk hairdo with it's like the hair halo and like the bald part of the head But when they go into the monastery, it's all metal doors.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_04]: This man has a shitty thing like thug grin and then a rips off his clothes And says, I am strike.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_04]: I have the honor of destroying you.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_04]: I was created by a motoc.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, 100% he's you know that he's the fun guy to wrestle right like But we just need to shave the rest of that head because I'm really not into that halo hair look.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_05]: Also Oh, there you go.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's that is as as a as a kid who grew up in California seeing a mission in one of the comics It's kind of great because you have to do like reports on missions when you're a kid and like you pick one
- 53:35[SPEAKER_05]: So I was like, oh, look, it's history, guys.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_05]: It's, it's very, it's very disturbing history.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_04]: But this guy's strike has never appeared again.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_04]: It's STRYKE, which is like doing the weird letter.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_04]: Also, he's been skipping leg day.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_04]: He is all back chest and arms, and he's got the little tiniest legs.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_05]: That's why he's so burrassal.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_05]: We just have to, you can get him in leg lock, so it'll be fine.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_04]: They are having a full battle.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_04]: Iron Man is getting overwhelmed.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_04]: He activates his image and do so to project multiple images of himself to fight the monkey.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_04]: He gets thrown through a wall and strike is so pleased.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_04]: I've done it.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_04]: I've beaten Iron Man.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_04]: All aim will be at my feet.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_04]: Nothing will be denied me.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_04]: This man does not have a beautiful face, but I kind of want to see him again.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_04]: He's living somewhere where the crab monster in a cave.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_05]: My friends.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_04]: So all of the team gets reassembled.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_04]: They get all gathered together in the middle of their fights.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_04]: They are summoned.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_04]: And rather than taking Darkstar to the hospital, go strider and iceman like grab her like unconscious form.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_04]: Loader in the ship and then run to the scene of battle, which just feels irresponsible if she is this wounded.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_04]: Luckily, they have a mini life support system in there.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_04]: Little ship like you do.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_05]: Always be prepared.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_04]: Ironman finds them all.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_04]: It finds Motoc finally in his Doomsday chair.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_04]: He's just like the wizard behind the curtain.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_04]: He says I've been reborn.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_04]: He wants to activate some Doomsday weapons.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_04]: And then his chair gets to explode off into the sky.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_04]: It has like a little jet pack underneath.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_04]: I have Doomsday machine.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_04]: And it is is Motoc having his best day.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_05]: He is, look at, look at, he destroys a whole mountain when he takes off with that little car, but then apparently even after the mountain finish is falling, he didn't get very far.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_05]: They catch up pretty fast, but I love it.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_05]: He's having such a good time.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_04]: He blasts off into space.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_04]: His mental powers have been activated.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_04]: The champions are almost crushed in the rubble, but Hercules braces it with his own body.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_04]: Darkstar could get them out of this like nothing, but she's on life support.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_04]: Let's see.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_02]: The Iron Man uses, so the the fun part is motor was hiding in the first building that Iron Man looked for him in.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_02]: I like it.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm speaking of champions.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_02]: Motoc is the hide and seek champion because he was there the whole time.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: visible.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_02]: So Ironman plugs himself into the power cradle that Motoc was using to power up his fancy chair and like overclocks his own suit to then blast the rest of the mountain that Motoc started to destroy.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_04]: We have to give this the sexy read.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_04]: A wire penetrates the middle like circle on his chest.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_04]: And he says, armor, receiving more energy than I'd ever known, the power, incredible power, risk.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, circuits, not created to withstand such a continuous overload, energy must be released, where armor will burn out, causing and black with us as you must
- 56:48[SPEAKER_04]: release, and yes, I must release power, and the sound effect is vastroom, which is the Xbox mode off his orbit, and kind of defeats him.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_04]: They like shoot him down in one panel.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_04]: He disappears in an explosion saying, no, I can't be destroyed.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_04]: I am mode off at apparently he gets incinerated by one single blast from Iron Man.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_04]: Satisfying ending
- 57:13[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I want more of a fight between Motoc and Iron Man, especially when he's powered up, and you know, Motoc's got its fancy chair and let Iron Man like have his power and then.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_05]: But, but it's crazy that it's like, it takes place in the first set.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_05]: It's just that Motoc turned himself invisible, but, but Iron Man needed power, so he left, but he got power failure.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's like honey.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_04]: Motoc is a telepath like I don't know.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_04]: He wanted a little get away with his boyfriend strike at the monastery.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't work.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_02]: Is I with a genius in the 70s still was that was that still part of this?
- 57:48[SPEAKER_04]: There's a weapons designer like a genius.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_04]: He get Darkstar to the hospital.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_04]: We get one panel where she seems to be okay.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_04]: She's feeling fine.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_04]: And Ironman's like, well, I better go back to work.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_04]: And that's the end.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_04]: Like, second to last panel is Motoc exploding.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_04]: Final panel is champions in the hospital at the end.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_04]: Like, this man ran the the the writers ran out of page room and they just had to like wrap this up real fucking quick.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_04]: But I love how they're like to the fate of Darkstar.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_04]: Check out the champions numbers.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_05]: It's exactly what it's like.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_05]: Well, she seems fine right here.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_05]: Do I need to check it out?
- 58:20[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_04]: So in our next episode, we're going to cover Iron Man 109 through 112, which is a post-Champions Dark Star story, but her next appearance after the Champions.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_04]: So in our script reads, we're going to be exploring Dark Star's journey, but in our next episode, you'll see what happens to her after the Champions, and then again, stay tuned for the trial at the end of the month.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_04]: This character is a powerhouse.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_04]: If I ever got to write an X team, she'd be like a top tier choice for me.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_04]: I think please do.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_04]: I think we have thoughts on this issue.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_04]: It's silly, Campy 1970s.
- 58:50[SPEAKER_04]: I wanna go, everybody go watch like an episode of like Spider-Man and his amazing friends, or like the old 60s like Fantastic Four Cartoon.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_04]: This is animated in that like old camp style would be delightful in its way.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, that's not from either of you.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's definitely fun.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_02]: But it's funny to me to like assess where comics were when they were like this era of comics and then sort of where things have gone and then looking back is why love what you do with this podcast chat and like seeing sort of like these progressions and especially knowing like where we are now and being able to look at stuff both is like man that's so 70s.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: But also being able to like assess and look at like the problematic picture of things that like yeah, she's fine.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_02]: How do we know?
- 59:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_02]: She didn't say anything.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_02]: They don't let her talk, you know, but I do think that the the characters are a fun hodgepodge like in that way like I do I have no idea why it is but like there's some weird like
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: bitchy back and forth between Bobby and Johnny Blaze, like, I don't know why it goes on me.
- 59:58[SPEAKER_04]: I meant to address this earlier, Bobby and the champions comics just seems to kind of resent the fact that Blaze is a demon.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_04]: He keeps calling him a spook all the time.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_04]: Blaze is a white character, but spook is not a racially friendly term for color, but he calls him a spook all the time, because he's like part demon, but you can also read it as like a little bit flirty.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_04]: So it's almost like he's
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_04]: demon guy is like off putting to his teammates and they don't quite trust him.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_04]: But it's never deeply explored, you know?
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_04]: Bobby fighting his own homosexuality is always the read though.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_05]: I find comics like this really charming.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_05]: I think that because of social media, we've we as fans have gotten so like just
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_05]: easily judgmental of things sometimes and it's yeah we can we can critique this obviously there's things that could be updated but I think there's also just a beautiful charm to how fun these are the I think the art is gorgeous I really love that classic style I think the ink's are just beautiful over it and beautiful beautifully rendered faces that I
- 1:00:55[SPEAKER_05]: I'm just like, this is just a fun read that I don't have to look super deep into.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_05]: You know, it's people who are making comics.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_05]: This is great.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_05]: And so yeah, I find it very refreshing.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_05]: And so I'm always, always so happy when you bring issues like this to the table for us because I just get really excited about what kind of treat is this gonna be, what's in store, what are my thoughts?
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_05]: And it's just a fun adventure.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_05]: And I think that's what we have to remember at the end of the day is still like, it's fun.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_04]: I'm really looking forward to you guys bringing strike the crap monster and Mothok into actually a 100% I need my my Glodok now so bad with nature yeah it's gonna be uh it's gonna be actually yeah Mothok I don't know Mothok did nothing he got to blast and blast out into the sky and then like shot down and he was like very team rocket from Pokemon in this.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_05]: He just wants to have a good time and they're just they keep getting in the way Don't they know how to get in the way?
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_05]: I also read all his lines as the monarch from Fender brothers.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_05]: I'm like, come on.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_05]: This is perfect.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_05]: He's amazing.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's he's new and to add to my list If you want another episode of very maul can tell us into Sarah's century Stephanie Williams and I have an episode on Modom Which is a lady Modom Modom with hair and lipstick.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_02]: So the fun time
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_05]: like you do.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's only that it is just actually mowed on with hair and lipstick on.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like it is not actually a different note.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_04]: No, it's a different character.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_04]: It's very much like what if this woman was ugly?
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_04]: Like that's kind of the story.
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_04]: Do you know what I mean?
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_04]: But she's kind of amazing.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_04]: Stephanie and Stephanie said I have a lot of lovely things to say.
- 1:02:24[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, good.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I would definitely check that out.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_05]: That sounds beautiful.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can also be a fun poll.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: So like that, we'll keep that in the back of our game.
- 1:02:32[SPEAKER_04]: Such a delight hanging out with the two of you.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_04]: I just adore your company so much.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_04]: I hope we get to see each other later this summer at various cons.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_04]: We'll talk about it offline.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, follow the show at a great welcome underscore lane.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_04]: Watch for more dark star content.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_04]: Our episode next week features the incredible talents of Ho Chi Anderson.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_04]: If look him up, he's amazing.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_04]: I got to meet him in Toronto.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_04]: That a panel I was on.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_04]: I can't wait to feature him on the show.
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_04]: Over on the Patreon, we are doing Dark Force themed characters this month.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_04]: The next episode coming out right after this is all about Dorman, who was featured in the Wonderman series.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_04]: And we have some really fun conversations with Darrell Taylor and Cameron Hebron, who is another dear friend of him.
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_05]: Yay!
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yay!
- 1:03:11[SPEAKER_04]: I September on the show, we are themeing everything around the character Saber Tooth, so be prepared for some delicious X-Men content there as well.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_04]: Where can people find you both anything you would like to plug for mid August?
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you can find me on my very entertaining, but you can find me on underscore ganger on Instagram plugging and we just keep coming for the Exmen stay for the hat collection.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's fair.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_02]: I haven't been doing my weekly picture because like once people sort of caught on to the that I was tipping what episodes could be about I didn't want to I didn't want to play that game in the same way
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_02]: But I love interacting with folks as to the best of my ability.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a plug for me, but if anyone does attend the uncanny experience in Minnesota, it is one of my favorite little cons to go to, so I will be there this year.
- 1:03:59[SPEAKER_02]: So if you want to come hang out and just be exponent fans together, that's always a good time.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be there too.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_04]: I'm actually doing a book signing there.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_04]: That way.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yay.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_04]: The book is amazing.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_04]: The Mormon status come is is out and available.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_04]: And I'll be doing my fashion panel at uncanny this year as well.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_04]: That's one of my favorites.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_04]: So please, yeah.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_05]: Like your book is Berlin.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_05]: I have it here at my office so that people can borrow it.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_05]: It's so good.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_05]: I, so congratulations.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_05]: I want it signed.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you all for you.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, um, you can find me on Instagram as your botic marble, but I really do hate the internet.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_05]: So you can also now find me in the redwoods.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_05]: I want to go.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_05]: lot of trees.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_05]: I'm gonna go camping more, but I really am trying to actually make a point of being out in about more because if all of you just look around at your dailys, you'll see every single person on the street is looking at their phone.
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_05]: I find that very sad.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_05]: I find that there's like beautiful birds and trees around us that I love to observe instead, even in gross ass L.A.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_05]: So yeah, you will find me in the woods or you won't find me.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see.
- 1:04:59[SPEAKER_02]: You want to come to Shaper on the National Park Club?
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_05]: How many teenagers are involved?
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_05]: Because I don't know that I want to be involved in this.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_02]: We only like 40.
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_04]: Mobile or mental operative designed only for killing.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_04]: I'll save this for my end.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_04]: There's some great Marvel acronyms out there.
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_04]: But my favorite Marvel acronym, there's a supervillian group called Ultimatum.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_04]: A stance for the underground liberated totally integrated mobile army to unite mankind.
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_04]: And that's my favorite Marvel facts.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_04]: like a music man era like a it's like a song from the Pirates of Penns.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_02]: To me, I'm totally a man.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_05]: I went like Mr.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_05]: Robot with it where I'm like is that like the new like society, you know, if society go look up their uniforms at me.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_04]: You'll love it.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_04]: It's giving very like French resistance.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_04]: They have a parade.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_04]: There's like a mask and goggles.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_05]: You'll like you'll love goggles.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_05]: I'm sold.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_05]: I'm joining.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_04]: Alright, Evan and shot.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_04]: I love you both.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you very much.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_04]: Listening.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_04]: We'll see you back here next week on a gray mocked laden.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_05]: Bye.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, everybody.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks for sticking around for a minute for another episode of gray mock and lane expose a where we talk about the sex lives of our favorite X men.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_04]: Stay tuned.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to have a wrong tree conversation in just a moment.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_04]: Perhaps so this is the part where you put your headphones in or don't play it in front of the kids.
- 1:06:21[SPEAKER_04]: I have three of my favorite people here with me, and we're going to begin with a very simple question, Justin Wilder is current Wagner fuckable.
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_00]: What do you mean?
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's adorable.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's a fun guy.
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's, you know, Bams about.
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's saying, like, would I fuck him?
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, I'm not gay, but I, he's a cute, you would, what a man has a face that you wouldn't mind having.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's how you tell.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's attractive, you know?
- 1:06:44[SPEAKER_00]: Would you fuck nocturn?
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_00]: Not absolutely.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_00]: So, and so that gets tricky, absolutely like no question, but also Scarlett Witch is a fox.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so Michael Solis is a Kurt Wagner, fuckable.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_03]: Totally, who might as say, Kurt Wagner is not.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_03]: I am on team, Kurt Wagner all the way.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, okay, and Kevin Canary, the voice of Nightcrawler, are you fuckable?
- 1:07:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just a mile a mile.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's a different version.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's a no, but it's Nightcrawler.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely.
- 1:07:14[SPEAKER_01]: I always equate Nightcrawler to the Marvel Universe's version of Nightwing, where just the same kind of rabbit fan base that Nightwing has, I feel like Nightcrawler has, and it's all very like heated rivalry fuckery going on there.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, okay, so this is a section of expo's a where we call a fuck date bring home to mom.
- 1:07:33[SPEAKER_04]: If you think about Kurt Wagner and his sexual history or even someone you may ship him with, Michael, who is his best fuck?
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_04]: Who's the girl that he has the best sex with?
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my gosh, um, well girl girl and or Wolverine.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_03]: would be much more excited if it was Wolverine actually.
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think that the hair on hair action, the claws kind of a little bit of the animal coming out.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_03]: I would be maybe leaning in that direction.
- 1:08:01[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like service is like those two have amazing sex and then nothing to talk about.
- 1:08:07[SPEAKER_04]: That's kind of where my head goes for those two.
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_00]: The first thing that came to mind was weaponless Zen from sure.
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because I just felt like that was so like, who are you uncover yourself in front of me?
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is your truth.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that felt not sustainable for a long period of time.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really find yourself kind of moment that he was in where he imagined half sisters and or sisters at various times.
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that is the side of the history that adopted sisters.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we're going to go here in a minute, but I do believe Kurt Wagner is very likely safe, you're sexual.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_04]: And probably a little bit pansexual in my head cannon.
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_04]: Justin, like who is his best relationship over time.
- 1:08:49[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, romantic relationship or something that I would.
- 1:08:53[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I feel like the one that feels the best is Scarlet Witch in, and it's so small, and it's so off the side.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_00]: There's a little playfulness and animated series.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was Wolverine in the X-Men, but I think I don't know that he's really had too much depth to any of them.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_00]: There's been a handful of them, but like no one that immediately, but what?
- 1:09:17[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you're leaving a man to off the list.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_04]: Amanda.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_04]: I know, long.
- 1:09:20[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:09:21[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the one, but like even that felt like it came in and out at various times and you know, they have the deepest relationship for sure and probably the best romantic relationship between them.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_04]: I notice you also seem to be avoiding his relationship with Rachel Summers.
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_00]: No, not avoiding, but not really, honestly, they're probably my favorite together, but she's changed.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_00]: She's gone on to, you know, I don't know that that happens now, you know, and so does that, is that just a moment in that time or in that space or?
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_04]: Well, while I respect most of your opinions, I will die on the hill of Curtin Rachel, do not belong to you.
- 1:09:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but why, you know, just she's everywhere and everyone different different different times, different people.
- 1:10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm working for that long, right?
- 1:10:08[SPEAKER_00]: You were right.
- 1:10:09[SPEAKER_04]: Nightcrawler and date fripper, they have a little buddy, cove like circus act.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_04]: It's a good time.
- 1:10:14[SPEAKER_04]: Kevin, who is the girl that and this is ironic given the Amanda relationship, but who's the girl that Kurt should bring home to mom?
- 1:10:20[SPEAKER_04]: And in this case, we're talking probably Margali and or mystique and or destiny depends on how you answer that question.
- 1:10:27[SPEAKER_01]: Not necessarily the right choice, but the correct choice is Megan, since she will be anything that you want them to be and you know he had a crush on her for a bit, I think he'd convince her to come home to each of his moms and she would change form to be whatever is perfect for each of those people.
- 1:10:44[SPEAKER_04]: We saw them together with a daughter in that age of X man series by Sean and McGuire.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_04]: The interesting thing is Kurt is raised Romani and we're talking about a two prominent Romani women as the Scarlet Witch and Amanda Sutton and then we add another with Megan into that mix.
- 1:11:00[SPEAKER_04]: uh... another one that is more recent i really love him with uh... silver stable from the amazing nightcrawler series uh... that was a really fun relationship in my mind uh... as well anyone else you ship him with you know i kind of want to see him day like the black cat for a minute i think that be fun i could seem being a roadie of lilac and going hopping around the universe together cute
- 1:11:20[SPEAKER_03]: He has also flirted with Storm, right?
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't think that ever let it lead to anything deeply serious.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's so weird.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_03]: It might rain.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_03]: You know, it does yet the chemistry is not right there.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_00]: Which I feel like that that's why Rachel and Kurt make more sense than Storm and Aurora and Kurt, right?
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's too much family history and almost brother sister relationship with Aurora and Kurt.
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't see that with Rachel.
- 1:11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Um.
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, yeah.
- 1:11:48[SPEAKER_00]: you never you never want it with Kitty, but also, right?
- 1:11:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that feels weird.
- 1:11:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm I'm trying to run through in my head like who else.
- 1:11:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, hurt and wear a McTaggart.
- 1:12:02[SPEAKER_04]: No, that's fun too, but I really like domino with Colossus.
- 1:12:06[SPEAKER_04]: I do too.
- 1:12:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that and then, you know,
- 1:12:08[SPEAKER_04]: Um, okay, Kevin, what are Kurt Wagner's turn-ons in bed?
- 1:12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he's definitely into texture and he likes furries.
- 1:12:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's into the plushies of all of his bants that he just does on a bed of bants.
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's not into being tied up because he can teleport out of it and so it doesn't really have the same kind of sexual like pleasure for him because he's mad.
- 1:12:29[SPEAKER_04]: He's a lot of eye contact.
- 1:12:32[SPEAKER_00]: Does he?
- 1:12:32[SPEAKER_04]: I think so.
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_04]: I also think he's probably a very generous lover.
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_04]: He really likes to make his partner finish first.
- 1:12:39[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 1:12:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm kind of sure.
- 1:12:41[SPEAKER_04]: Michael, what do you think Kurt Wagner's turn offs are?
- 1:12:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think Kurt Wagner knows how to cuddle.
- 1:12:46[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think cuddling is part of the equation.
- 1:12:49[SPEAKER_03]: There's not much to kind of grab either.
- 1:12:51[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't think he's fun to cuddle either.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, he's so, but he's like velvety.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I just want to put his hooks on his hand.
- 1:12:58[SPEAKER_01]: Doesn't need a hole in my walls.
- 1:13:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's a little hooks in his hand.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_03]: That's not pleasant is a little too clunky.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and then you can get caught.
- 1:13:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so it's there's a there's some danger there.
- 1:13:07[SPEAKER_04]: So warm the fur.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_04]: We.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_04]: I really should have women here, because I think women often find Kurt very, very sexy, but I have to save some of my conversations with women for other characters that I've in my, but let's talk about this is a section where we call what are those powers do?
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_04]: Justin, what could Kurt do in the bedroom with his ability to teleport through the Brimstone dimension and does the sulfur smell create an impediment to a healthy sex life for him?
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, so I feel like the sulfur smell for him, he's probably it's home, you know, he loves it.
- 1:13:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's never turned off by the brimstone, but other people, you got to warm up to that.
- 1:13:47[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the ability to just constantly be anywhere, lens itself to a variety of switch up that I feel like no one else can achieve with that bent ability.
- 1:13:59[SPEAKER_04]: the the recent run and gelsamones book where that woman Mackenzie he's dating like whispers like I want you to bamf me yeah and they they get to the the the xman house later her hair is all messy and she's like we've been five times it's like gelsamones and on the joke yeah and I thought about her as we were just talking about it and she's not like they're cute but I don't know like what else is there for them?
- 1:14:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care about her.
- 1:14:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:14:23[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:14:24[SPEAKER_00]: And then like I do only the all future where you were tired to the suburbs.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_00]: I hated.
- 1:14:28[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, none of that, please.
- 1:14:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Mary in a single mom in the suburb isn't going to work for care.
- 1:14:34[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think.
- 1:14:35[SPEAKER_04]: Not for like Kevin.
- 1:14:36[SPEAKER_04]: What can that crawler do in bed with his line of site teleportation ability?
- 1:14:40[SPEAKER_01]: I do think there's a person who would be excited by the danger of falling while they're having sex and that's silver savings and that's probably silver stable and so I do think there's something for him taking somebody on a Banff journey while things are happening yeah and I think that could be a mixture of danger thing were just speed you know having the wind through your hair while you're having sex a little danger of like that blind teleport they're going to end up solidified in a wall somewhere right.
- 1:15:08[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe Michael, what can Nightcroller do in bed with the ability to climb walls?
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_03]: I'm a little bit more interested in the pre-hensile tail.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_03]: Let's add that one on that with the next one.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_03]: So wall climbing and a pre-hensile tail.
- 1:15:21[SPEAKER_03]: Because I think the wall climbing also goes with that a little bit.
- 1:15:24[SPEAKER_03]: But I think the being able to grab
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_03]: weapons, wrap that tail around things, um, I think climb up and around people.
- 1:15:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think, yeah, night crawlers very, yeah, very agile.
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_03]: So I think there's like, you know, exceptional reflexes, the cat-like, cat-like reflexes, the flexible, so it's like a very bendable yogi, basically.
- 1:15:43[SPEAKER_04]: We don't have to delve into this, but this man has big fingers and big toes.
- 1:15:47[SPEAKER_04]: So there's some
- 1:15:51[SPEAKER_04]: And he only gets three or what is it three of each?
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_04]: It's yep, yep, yep, yep, yep, um, three on each.
- 1:15:56[SPEAKER_04]: Justin, what can that crawler do with the ability to melt into shadow and see in the dark in bed?
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_00]: I just feel like that's that he's got a light shell going and then that's fun ways that he surprises you and also kind of terrifying.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're like, well, where do you go?
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_00]: He, uh, the little things popping out of the dark.
- 1:16:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, uh, do we have any resonant thoughts on the, uh, the very healthy sexual life of Kurt Wagner.
- 1:16:19[SPEAKER_04]: He's sexy.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_04]: I think, uh, a lot of people find him attractive.
- 1:16:23[SPEAKER_04]: And I think he really enjoys sex.
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_04]: But I do think he's a little level one woman, man.
- 1:16:27[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I think this man, if you tried to be polyamorous, would like really struggle with the jealousy of it all.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_04]: And also his partner would have to be very cool and down.
- 1:16:35[SPEAKER_04]: This is where Domino works.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_04]: Like the two of them in, uh, like a
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_01]: What did he do while it was a priest?
- 1:16:42[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think he had sex anyway?
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think he was one of those priests that probably still, did you guys see, oh goodness, now I forgot the name of that show, the British comedy, it was a... Yeah, yeah, flee bag, and the priest can still fuck people, right?
- 1:16:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, all the priests can still fuck people as it's proven, but like, it's whether they should or not.
- 1:17:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's a question.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_01]: What did we think about his relationship with Legion when they were in the head together?
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_04]: I thought it was interesting, but that felt like a working relationship to me.
- 1:17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Is there a personality of legions that you think Kurt would fuck?
- 1:17:13[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sure.
- 1:17:14[SPEAKER_04]: Probably.
- 1:17:15[SPEAKER_04]: Probably multiple.
- 1:17:16[SPEAKER_04]: One of them is Moira McTaggart.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_04]: He hasn't evil Moira and his brain.
- 1:17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what Kurt likes.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_01]: He likes evil Moira.
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_04]: He's like real.
- 1:17:25[SPEAKER_04]: There's an evil Xavier and an evil Moira in there.
- 1:17:28[SPEAKER_04]: Justin and any additional thoughts?
- 1:17:29[SPEAKER_00]: I love Kurt, you know, and I want him to have love.
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_00]: I agree that he is likely a one-person partner in general, but and that's all we've seen from him.
- 1:17:39[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't seem to even, even the silver-sabled thing was was fun and playful and that's always his vibe, but I thought he was starting to catch something.
- 1:17:48[SPEAKER_00]: and then was hurt in the end.
- 1:17:50[SPEAKER_00]: It makes me, it makes me love them that much more.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_03]: Perhaps I wonder, yeah, I wonder if he has some attachment issues as well like clinging to one or but also being a little bit like hearted and not maybe there's a fear of wanting to get into deeper longer-term relationships.
- 1:18:04[SPEAKER_03]: I love all of you.
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_03]: I'm being so ranchy and you're all being so deeply thankful.
- 1:18:10[SPEAKER_03]: But if he has an awful one-night stand, you can just get out of there and no questions asked.
- 1:18:14[SPEAKER_03]: You go, which is a wonderful thing.
- 1:18:16[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, Kevin, I sent out earlier a group text.
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_04]: I'm leaning into kind of stereotypes.
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_04]: If we take the template of night crawler and kind of put him in a certain genre, I've come up with three characters that kind of match him from other places.
- 1:18:29[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to assume that these are not children and that they are all consenting immortal beings as we introduce these characters, but also we could just take a template of them as adults.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_04]: we're not advocating for adult child relationships.
- 1:18:42[SPEAKER_04]: I want to be very, very clear about that.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_04]: The three characters I chose are a hot stuff, a spooky, the tough little ghost, and a Gabby gruesome.
- 1:18:50[SPEAKER_04]: So using the fuck Mary killed template, who would curt choose for each of these?
- 1:18:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think, uh, gosh, I think Kurt would choose Gabby to marry instead of down with.
- 1:19:02[SPEAKER_04]: Are you a Gabby gruesome fan?
- 1:19:04[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then I think he would probably end up killing spooky the tough little ghost and he would have a lot of sex with hot stuff.
- 1:19:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that that answer makes sense.
- 1:19:16[SPEAKER_04]: Is it interesting for your brain to picture these as templates of net crawler?
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think the hot stuff especially is very much the little devil that sits on net crawlers shoulder when he's being super inappropriate with women.
- 1:19:29[SPEAKER_00]: in the tranks and the joking around, but but surprise, all three of them are the children of a zazel.
- 1:19:37[SPEAKER_04]: I know none of you signed up for for this little expose, but I appreciate you joining me.
- 1:19:42[SPEAKER_04]: Do we have any final thoughts about Kurt Wagner?
- 1:19:45[SPEAKER_04]: there are none.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, there's definitely thoughts.
- 1:19:47[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many thoughts.
- 1:19:48[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many thoughts.
- 1:19:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's like symbol.
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's a sex symbol in the Marvel universe.
- 1:19:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think without, like, there's some people who are like, oh, they might find them sexy.
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_01]: Even if he's not your taste, you can't deny his kind of swashbuckling sexy, you know, leading man Hollywood, you know, kind of magnetism.
- 1:20:08[SPEAKER_04]: I bet Suri's has a BAMF sex doll up there in Cher space.
- 1:20:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:20:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's so, he's so swath and cool too.
- 1:20:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like I just, that's why I feel like I love him so much.
- 1:20:19[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, something we haven't referenced.
- 1:20:21[SPEAKER_04]: There's a Chuck Austin story that says maybe Kurt has two penises.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_04]: Do you guys remember that?
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's like a random mention in a comic book.
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_04]: Is it pre-henseless?
- 1:20:30[SPEAKER_04]: Just has it all, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_00]: For what?
- 1:20:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_00]: I have the questions.
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_04]: Alright everybody, thank you for hanging out for another expose.
- 1:20:56[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks Kevin.
