Speaker 4: Good morning, Happy Friday, Happy May. Welcome to the show.
• 2:50
Speaker 2: Good morning, I'm glad to be here you.
• 2:53
Speaker 4: You kind of appear to me that you may be
• 2:55
Speaker 4: one of those people on your social media that would
• 2:58
Speaker 4: share the justin Timberlake for May first saying it's going
• 3:01
  Speaker 4: to be May.
• 3:02
  Speaker 6: Is that you.
• 3:04
Speaker 2: I had not that one, but I did see a

• 3:11
Speaker 4: Before we get into this week's Pet of the Week,
• 3:13
Speaker 4: I do want to ask you about Tuxes and Tails
• 3:16
Speaker 4: last week. I was not able to be there. I
• 3:17
Speaker 4: know some of our staff were in attendance. How'd everything
• 3:20
  Speaker 4: go last week?
• 3:21
Speaker 2: Oh? It was a blast. Everybody that was there had
• 3:25
Speaker 2: a good time. And I do think it was the
• 3:27
Speaker 2: best Tuxes and Tails to date.
• 3:29
Speaker 4: That's great. And the capacity crowd, I'm sure.
• 3:33
Speaker 2: Yes, And we were able to raise just over fifty
• 3:36
  Speaker 2: thousand dollars.
• 3:37
Speaker 4: Nice fifty grand. Good job Angie and the staff and
• 3:41
Speaker 4: the sponsors and of course the people that bought the
• 3:44
Speaker 4: tickets as well, and everything out there JQ Dickets and
• 3:46
Speaker 4: Salt Works working out okay for you? For the location, Oh, it.
• 3:50
Speaker 2: Was perfect and I think we are going to plan
• 3:52
Speaker 2: to go back next year as well.
• 3:53
Speaker 4: All Right, good news. It's a great place out there.
• 3:55
Speaker 4: They're great people to work with. Let's talk about our
• 3:57
Speaker 4: adopty please better the week. Picture posted on Facebook page
• 4:00
Speaker 4: for me Dave Allen Radio and WHS Network Facebook also
• 4:03
Speaker 4: at Dave A seventy on X tell us about Ladybug.
• 4:09
Speaker 2: So, Ladybug is what I would call the perfect dog.
• 4:12
Speaker 2: Any dog that is cat friendly, good with other dogs,
• 4:15
Speaker 2: and kid friendly is just like golden ticket dog. They
• 4:19
Speaker 2: can go anywhere. Really. She's about a year and a
• 4:21
Speaker 2: half old, around fifty ish pounds, and she has stayed
• 4:25
Speaker 2: an up to date on her vaccination. So if you
• 4:27
Speaker 2: decide to adopt her, she can leave with you the
• 4:30
Speaker 2: same day that you had dogged.
• 4:31
Speaker 4: And you said you called her the perfect dog. I
• 4:34
Speaker 4: mean she's good from what you told me. She's good
• 4:36
Speaker 4: with kids, good with other dogs, and good with cats.
• 4:41
Speaker 2: Yep, that's what I call the golden ticket dog.
• 4:42
Speaker 4: Yes, a golden ticket dog. Ladybug's a great looking to
• 4:45
Speaker 4: any idea. What kind of dog Ladybug is?
• 4:47
Speaker 2: Hi that I'm not sure. She's just a West Virginia
• 4:51
Speaker 2: brown and white dog.
• 4:52
Speaker 4: Okay, Well, I's nothing wrong with that. I got again
• 4:54
Speaker 4: Ladybugs picture posted Dave Allen Radio on Facebook, the WCCHS
• 4:58
Speaker 4: Network Facebook page, and at DAVI on X Now, Angie,
• 5:01
Speaker 4: you've had some big events other than just tuxes and
• 5:04
Speaker 4: tails this week. You guys been kind of busy.
• 5:07
Speaker 2: We have been really busy this week. Yesterday, Donate Life
• 5:11
Speaker 2: West Virginia came up to Kasey Ha and spent some
• 5:16
Speaker 2: time with us. They had sponsored adoption fees for dogs,
• 5:20
Speaker 2: and each dog they got that they sponsored, they renamed
• 5:24
Speaker 2: after an Oregon donor's dog. So we got a couple
• 5:28
Speaker 2: dogs adopted from that, but we got to spend some
• 5:30
Speaker 2: time with them as well, and it was a really
• 5:33
  Speaker 2: good time.
• 5:33
Speaker 4: And I think our sister station V one hundred, I
• 5:36
Speaker 4: think Logan Scott was up there yesterday too, so he
• 5:39
Speaker 4: said everything went really well. Now in addition to all
• 5:43
Speaker 4: that you've been doing in the community, you folks have
• 5:45
Speaker 4: been quite busy. On your Facebook page, saw twenty three
• 5:49
Speaker 4: cats and kittens and six dogs came in yesterday.
• 5:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, just yesterday alone, though I was part of the
• 5:57
Speaker 2: crew that was in taking all twenty three of those cats.
• 6:00
Speaker 2: Everyone is safe now and if you are interested in fostering,
• 6:03
Speaker 2: because all of these cats and kittens are unweaned. They
• 6:07
Speaker 2: need somewhere to grow big and strong to be available
• 6:09
Speaker 2: for an option. Now is the time to come up
• 6:11
Speaker 2: and tell us you are ready to foster.
• 6:12
Speaker 4: I mean even by your numbers, and you folks are
• 6:15
Speaker 4: super men and women up there. But let's I mean
• 6:18
Speaker 4: twenty three total of twenty nine critters in one day.
• 6:22
Speaker 2: That's a lot that is right now that bumps our
• 6:25
Speaker 2: numbers up. I checked this morning. We're taking care of
• 6:28
Speaker 2: four hundred and seven animals in our care currently two
• 6:30
Speaker 2: hundred and thirty two of those being dogs and one
• 6:32
Speaker 2: hundred and seventy five being cats. And that is a
• 6:35
Speaker 2: lot of cats and dogs.
• 6:36
Speaker 4: It is. Again we're talking with Age Gilla Water from
• 6:38
Speaker 4: the Canal charlest Reumaine Association with this week's Adopt Me
• 6:41
Speaker 4: Please Pet of the Week, brought to you by Almost
• 6:43
Speaker 4: Having Interiors, family owned proudly serving the community for over
• 6:46
Speaker 4: fifty years, specializing in custom line shades, shutters, upholstery and
• 6:50
Speaker 4: beautifully crafted sown goods from homes to hospitals, classrooms to
• 6:53
Speaker 4: commercial spaces. They do at all. They're looking it at
• 6:56
Speaker 4: five sixteen D Street in South Charleston. I know you
• 6:59
Speaker 4: all are a kicking on if your Bissell Pet Foundation
• 7:01
Speaker 4: Adopts and Adoption special talk about that.
• 7:04
Speaker 2: I yes, so this will. Pet Foundation hosts adoption events
• 7:08
Speaker 2: called Empty the Shelters where we are able to offer
• 7:12
Speaker 2: adoption fees at a discounted price, and we're kicking it
• 7:15
Speaker 2: off this this go round with an Adoptions after Dark special.
• 7:19
Speaker 2: And what that means is we're going to be open
• 7:21
Speaker 2: until eleven PM tonight for anybody that's at work or
• 7:24
Speaker 2: maybe has a you know, a game of some sort
• 7:27
Speaker 2: in the evening time. We're going to be open till
• 7:29
Speaker 2: eleven for you to come up, take advantage of these
• 7:32
Speaker 2: discounted adoption fees and hopefully add to your family.
• 7:35
Speaker 4: All Right, so you guys are going to be out
• 7:37
Speaker 4: and about anywhere this weekend.
• 7:39
Speaker 2: Not this weekend. I'm going to be there till eleven tonight,
• 7:42
Speaker 2: so I won't be of much use tomorrow. Well.
• 7:45
Speaker 4: I say that because we had a text here that
• 7:47
Speaker 4: said with WVU legend Owen Schmidt being at the Dirty
• 7:49
Speaker 4: Birds game tomorrow evening for a meet and greet, they
• 7:52
Speaker 4: want to know if you thought about bringing some of
• 7:53
Speaker 4: the animals over to the ballpark tomorrow night because it's
• 7:55
Speaker 4: going to be a pack stadium. I don't want to
• 7:56
Speaker 4: put pressure on you, but I just want to say
• 7:58
  Speaker 4: that's what a Texter said.
• 7:59
Speaker 2: So that is something that I will have to air
• 8:03
Speaker 2: quote chew on and see if we can make possible
• 8:05
  Speaker 2: with our team.
• 8:06
Speaker 4: Well, speaking of which, I'm just throwing this out there.
• 8:09
Speaker 4: Next weekend, this is next weekend. We have phone with
• 8:11
Speaker 4: the dome. You got the V one hundred yard sales
• 8:14
Speaker 4: Steven Jenny Rebfest going on in mar matt that actually
• 8:16
Speaker 4: starts on Thursday. I think, so maybe if you got
• 8:19
Speaker 4: the staff and you got the volunteers, maybe you can
• 8:21
Speaker 4: hit up some of those events next week.
• 8:22
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 8:23
Speaker 2: Absolutely, our stuff loves to get out into the community
• 8:25
Speaker 2: and show off our dogs, so I will definitely try
• 8:28
Speaker 2: to get that in the work.
• 8:29
Speaker 4: All right, And what are you in need of as
• 8:30
Speaker 4: far as donations go right now?
• 8:33
Speaker 2: Right now, we're running extremely low on blankets, So any
• 8:36
Speaker 2: type of blankets, howl or sheets, it can be used.
• 8:39
Speaker 2: It can be brand new, We're not picky. And then
• 8:42
Speaker 2: as always, Purina chow product so peurin a cat, purian
• 8:46
Speaker 2: a dog peering a kit, or purre in a puppy
• 8:48
  Speaker 2: chow all right.
• 8:49
Speaker 4: We did have a text that said, with the huge
• 8:52
Speaker 4: intake of newborn kittens with no mamas, are you in
• 8:54
Speaker 4: need of milk replacement and bottles?
• 8:58
Speaker 2: We can always accept those donations. We actually had a
• 9:01
Speaker 2: mommy cat be so kind yesterday and take in some
• 9:04
Speaker 2: orphan babies that were not hers. So the guys that
• 9:06
Speaker 2: we have currently are set, but in the future we
• 9:10
Speaker 2: are expecting, you know, more orphan kittens to come in
• 9:13
Speaker 2: and it's not always working out that mama cats will
• 9:15
Speaker 2: take them, in which case we will need bottles, formula,
• 9:19
Speaker 2: things of that nature. So we will always take those
• 9:21
  Speaker 2: their nature.
• 9:22
Speaker 4: And you've got some great pictures on your Facebook page
• 9:24
Speaker 4: this week with some of the animals that you took in.
• 9:27
Speaker 4: I mean again, twenty nine in one day. That is
• 9:30
Speaker 4: a lot. And what was the total and number of analysts?
• 9:32
Speaker 4: Four oh seven? Is that what you said?
• 9:34
Speaker 2: Four hundred and seven?
• 9:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, burn seven. All right, Well, keep doing good things
• 9:37
Speaker 4: up there, Angie, and we will talk again next week.
• 9:40
Speaker 4: Thanks a lot, sounds great, have a good one you
• 9:43

Speaker 3: now I would be Division thirteen.
• 14:23
Speaker 4: You're lucky thirteen, lucky number thirteen.
• 14:25
  Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
• 14:26
Speaker 4: Now you are named to the position last year after
• 14:29
Speaker 4: the resignation of a city magistrate. Now you have to
• 14:32
Speaker 4: run for the spot. So tell us about I had
• 14:34
Speaker 4: you on when you were first appointed. But tell us
• 14:35
Speaker 4: about Delbert roush Well.
• 14:39
Speaker 5: I was born here in Charleston and grew up middle class,
• 14:46
  Speaker 5: hard working family.
• 14:47
Speaker 3: My father was a Charleston firefighter, My grandfather was a
• 14:53
Speaker 3: Charleston police officer, and.
• 14:57
Speaker 4: You pretty much didn't have a choice to go into
• 14:59
Speaker 4: anything else right now.
• 15:01
Speaker 3: You know, as a young kid in nineteen eighty one,
• 15:04
Speaker 3: I was probably I was around eight years old, and
• 15:06
Speaker 3: my grandfather was shot and killed on the West Side,
• 15:10
Speaker 3: and you know, from that point, you know, that can
• 15:13
Speaker 3: be a traumatic experience. But I think at a young age,
• 15:17
Speaker 3: I pretty much knew what I wanted to be when
• 15:19
Speaker 3: I grew up. And you know, most kids always say
• 15:22
Speaker 3: I want to be a police officer.
• 15:23
  Speaker 5: I want to be a.
• 15:24
Speaker 3: Farman, and I think I knew I wanted to grow
• 15:27
Speaker 3: up and become a law enforcement officer because I wanted
• 15:30
  Speaker 3: to help people.
• 15:31
Speaker 5: And I've always had.
• 15:36
Speaker 3: A knack of trying to be a problem solver, either
• 15:40
Speaker 3: between friends or whomever. So I really enjoyed that I
• 15:46
Speaker 3: did that for almost twenty six years and finish up
• 15:48
Speaker 3: as a lieutenant on the Connell County Sheriff's Office, being
• 15:52
Speaker 3: a shift commander on road patrol, and I was able
• 15:58
Speaker 3: to get out and just really meet some wonderful people
• 16:00
Speaker 3: throughout the county. And as I started getting older, you know,
• 16:06
Speaker 3: you you don't recover from kicking indoors or chasing people
• 16:10
Speaker 3: the way you used to. And you know, a couple
• 16:11
Speaker 3: a couple of ibuprofens just wasn't doing it. So it
• 16:14
Speaker 3: was time for me to hang up the badging guns.
• 16:17
Speaker 4: All right, we'll talk about the experience there and how
• 16:21
Speaker 4: it has translated into making you and your opinion an
• 16:24
  Speaker 4: effective magistrate.
• 16:27
Speaker 3: I think, uh, you know, I would review cases as
• 16:31
  Speaker 3: a supervisor, and I would read everyone's reports. So I
• 16:36
Speaker 3: would go over the reports towards the end a shift,
• 16:39
Speaker 3: and I would look at what the charges were based
• 16:43
Speaker 3: on the narrative that was written, and there was sometimes
• 16:49
Speaker 3: you could add more charges to those or maybe something
• 16:53
Speaker 3: could have been charged incorrectly, right, I mean, it's it's
• 16:56
Speaker 3: all about interpretation and reading the codes. So I think,
• 17:00
Speaker 3: you know, as a magistrate, people bring things to me
• 17:04
Speaker 3: and I can read it and I can look and
• 17:06
Speaker 3: see I'm like, Okay, well this doesn't really fit or
• 17:12
Speaker 3: you need to take another look at this.
• 17:14
Speaker 4: I think sometimes and I think you and I may
• 17:16
Speaker 4: have talked about it before. I know I've talked about
• 17:18
Speaker 4: it with other magistrates. To Delbert Is, we have this
• 17:22
Speaker 4: image of you know, what we want the court system
• 17:25
Speaker 4: in America to be, and you folks and the magistrates
• 17:30
Speaker 4: and I'll put judges and everybody else there. I mean,
• 17:32
Speaker 4: you got to go by the law. And there's probably
• 17:35
Speaker 4: times that about trying to put thoughts in your head,
• 17:38
Speaker 4: but probably times that you wish it was a little
• 17:40
Speaker 4: bit tougher or you wish that you could do a
• 17:42
Speaker 4: little bit, but you have a law book to go
• 17:45
Speaker 4: by it and that's what you have to go by.
• 17:46
Speaker 5: Well, yeah, yeah, you have.
• 17:47
Speaker 3: To be fair and partial and you have to stick
• 17:49
Speaker 3: to the letter of the law. And I think you know,
• 17:54
Speaker 3: over the past three months, I have probably set for
• 18:00
Speaker 3: close to five hundred cases on criminal and civil cases,
• 18:04
Speaker 3: and I try to keep a busy docket. I try
• 18:08
Speaker 3: to keep things moving. I remember one of the big
• 18:12
Speaker 3: things was I've always felt that when you go to
• 18:15
Speaker 3: court and as a law enforcement officer, a victim, a witness,
• 18:21
Speaker 3: you really shouldn't have to sit for two hours at
• 18:23
Speaker 3: a time. And sometimes that just happens, not by malice
• 18:29
Speaker 3: or anything. It just cases get backed up. But I
• 18:32
Speaker 3: try to move everything along because you know, the victims,
• 18:35
Speaker 3: witnesses and even the defendants have a right to have
• 18:39
Speaker 3: their case heard and dealt with, whether whether it moves
• 18:42
  Speaker 3: forward or dismissed.
• 18:44
Speaker 5: So I'm talking to.
• 18:46
Speaker 4: Delbert Roush, the third who is Kenaw County imagined appointed
• 18:48
Speaker 4: that position. He is on the ballot. You'll see him
• 18:50
Speaker 4: on the ballot if you are early voting or if
• 18:54
Speaker 4: you vote on election. David Dave Allen showing five any
• 18:56
Speaker 4: line brought to you in part by the all New
• 18:58
Speaker 4: Generations forward a hurricane visit generations for dot com. Talk
• 19:02
Speaker 4: about that time on the bench, Delbert, any any surprises.
• 19:07
Speaker 4: I know it was gonna be even though you've been
• 19:08
Speaker 4: in magistrate court a lot as an officer. I'm sure
• 19:11
Speaker 4: that there was probably a couple of things that maybe
• 19:13
Speaker 4: it was a little bit of a learning curve for
• 19:15
Speaker 4: you being on that side of the bench. Talk about
• 19:18
Speaker 4: your your time so far.
• 19:19
Speaker 5: Uh you know, I.
• 19:20
Speaker 3: Think, uh, the civil side is uh is interesting. You know,
• 19:27
Speaker 3: so many different cases that come up, and uh, you know,
• 19:32
Speaker 3: I always say that magistrate court is the gateway to
• 19:35
Speaker 3: the rest of the judicial system because no matter if
• 19:39
Speaker 3: somebody comes in on a felony rest, they get arraigned
• 19:44
Speaker 3: with us, and then later that goes upstairs to the
• 19:47
Speaker 3: circuit judges. And uh, so you'll you'll have protective p s,
• 19:52
Speaker 3: o S, d vps, wrongful occupations, the regular or civil cases.
• 20:02
Speaker 3: So usually we schedule I like to try to schedule
• 20:07
Speaker 3: when we all do. It is like a week at
• 20:09
Speaker 3: a time you'll have set aside for your jury trials
• 20:13
Speaker 3: or a week of time you do your misdemeanor docket
• 20:17
Speaker 3: or runfle occupation dockets. And Connall County, Uh, just being
• 20:24
Speaker 3: new to this, Cannall County seems to be just continuously.
• 20:28
Speaker 4: Busy, the largest county in the state.
• 20:30
Speaker 3: Largest county in the state, and uh, and that's what
• 20:33
Speaker 3: I said. It's been a really good learning curve, you know,
• 20:37
Speaker 3: three months in and it's uh, it's constant work. I
• 20:40
Speaker 3: mean I like to be at work. I like to
• 20:42
Speaker 3: be there early. I like to review and read my cases.
• 20:45
Speaker 3: That way, I know what's going to happen the next day.
• 20:47
Speaker 3: So when I go on the bench, I can sit
• 20:49
Speaker 3: there and when the defense or the prosecution is going
• 20:53
Speaker 3: over a case, I've already read it. I know what's coming,
• 20:56
Speaker 3: I know what they're going to say, and I like to.
• 21:00
Speaker 5: Try to be prepared that way.
• 21:02
Speaker 3: I feel like I'm helping the citizens better by being
• 21:05
Speaker 3: a better judicial officer.
• 21:08
Speaker 4: How's the campaign been so far?
• 21:10
  Speaker 5: Wow?
• 21:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's does this not I mean you were appointed before, yes,
• 21:14
Speaker 4: but you have you're having to run for the for
• 21:16
Speaker 4: the job this time. How has that been.
• 21:18
Speaker 3: I've had a lot of support from friends and family
• 21:21
Speaker 3: and colleagues, and you know, the whole campaign process is
• 21:26
  Speaker 3: new to me.
• 21:27
Speaker 5: Of course. You know, my mother, God rest her.
• 21:29
Speaker 3: If she was alive, she loved politics. She was just
• 21:32
Speaker 3: always into politics every four years, so she would have
• 21:36
  Speaker 3: loved this.
• 21:36
  Speaker 5: But it's it's been. It's been good.
• 21:39
Speaker 3: I've got out and uh, talked to people, knocked on
• 21:42
Speaker 3: some doors, put some signs up. People have been real
• 21:45
Speaker 3: receptive to me. There was a certain area I was
• 21:50
Speaker 3: out putting some signs up, started talking to people and
• 21:53
Speaker 3: I had a guy kind of look at me and he.
• 21:54
Speaker 5: Goes, I know you.
• 21:55
Speaker 3: I'm like maybe, and he said, well, if you didn't
• 21:59
Speaker 3: have the beard I remember for you, Lieutenant Rouse, You're
• 22:01
Speaker 3: always not you know, just I'm running into people that
• 22:06
Speaker 3: even that I've dealt with that, you know, have been
• 22:08
Speaker 3: supportive of the fact to what I'm doing.
• 22:10
Speaker 4: Now, what do you hear when you are out hanging signs,
• 22:14
Speaker 4: going door to door, campaign forums or whatever. What is
• 22:17
Speaker 4: it that you hear from the public, not about you,
• 22:20
Speaker 4: but about magistrate court in general.
• 22:22
Speaker 5: Well, a lot of people.
• 22:24
Speaker 3: Like to know what the magistrate's role is, and I
• 22:27
Speaker 3: kind of explained that to them. Sometimes they they want
• 22:34
Speaker 3: to know more about Well, if they file something and
• 22:40
Speaker 3: somebody's arrested, why why do they just get out or whatever?
• 22:45
Speaker 3: And I don't go into detail with that. It's you know,
• 22:50
Speaker 3: I just explained to them that if you have a
• 22:53
Speaker 3: certain case and the penalty would be five hundred dollars,
• 22:59
Speaker 3: well you can't go more than three times that amount
• 23:03
Speaker 3: on a bond, and of course that bond could be
• 23:06
Speaker 3: fifteen dollars cash property. Surety Kennell County started using bondsman
• 23:13
Speaker 3: a few years ago, so I explained that to him.
• 23:18
Speaker 3: It's not that a magistrate just will throw out a
• 23:23
Speaker 3: number and and and set a bond on somebody. So
• 23:27
Speaker 3: you know, again you have a certain ethical procedure to
• 23:34
Speaker 3: follow when you're setting bonds, and and bonds are.
• 23:37
Speaker 5: Set to make sure that people will show up for court.
• 23:41
Speaker 3: So you have to take into the fact that, Okay,
• 23:43
Speaker 3: if you look this person up and he has four
• 23:46
Speaker 3: kpises in his history, you know, well, do you think
• 23:50
Speaker 3: he's going to show up?
• 23:52
  Speaker 5: Maybe?
• 23:52
Speaker 3: Maybe not, but you have to take that into consideration.
• 23:55
Speaker 3: So it's it's not just you know, you have to
• 23:59
Speaker 3: look at all asked x when when setting bonds, and
• 24:02
Speaker 3: you know you have to be again fair and impartial
• 24:04
Speaker 3: to everyone and give people people the benefit of the
• 24:07
  Speaker 3: doubts sometimes.
• 24:08
Speaker 4: Do you have a website or Facebook or anything you
• 24:10
Speaker 4: want to put up there.
• 24:11
  Speaker 3: I have a Facebook page. It's a Delvert Ralsh Kennall
• 24:14
Speaker 3: County Magistrate and uh A, no website, just a Facebook, okay.
• 24:21
Speaker 4: Final thirty wathould someone vote to keep Delbert roush the
• 24:24
Speaker 4: third in the in that magistrate's position.
• 24:27
Speaker 3: David, you know, it's always been kind of hard to
• 24:30
Speaker 3: talk about myself, but I feel like I'm fair and partial.
• 24:34
Speaker 3: I bring integrity and justice to the bench.
• 24:36
  Speaker 4: I have.
• 24:38
Speaker 3: Years of law enforcement knowledge and experience, and I generally care.
• 24:47
Speaker 5: About the people. But look me up, look me up
• 24:49
Speaker 5: on the internet. You know.
• 24:51
Speaker 3: I I truly care about the citizens Kanall County, and
• 24:55
Speaker 3: I believe everybody, everybody should have faith in me because
• 24:59
Speaker 3: I I'm there to do the job for them.
• 25:03

• 28:22
Speaker 4: it from the Craig pattent House, Pad Moyers and Josh Higginbotham.
• 28:26
Speaker 4: Pat will start with you, good morning and welcome to
• 28:28
  Speaker 4: the show.
• 28:28
Speaker 13: Good morning, Thank you very much, a pleasure to be here.
• 28:31
Speaker 4: And mister Higginbotham, it's always a pleasure to see you
• 28:33
Speaker 4: on the shower you again. All right. First, tell us
• 28:36
Speaker 4: about the Crake Patton House, give us the history, tell
• 28:41
Speaker 4: us where it is, tell us about the whole thing.
• 28:43
Speaker 13: Pat, We're very proud of our Craig Patton House, which
• 28:46
Speaker 13: is located on Canoll Bulevard, one mile east of the
• 28:51
Speaker 13: Capitol building. The house dates back to eighteen thirty four
• 28:57
Speaker 13: when it was built by James Craig who came into
• 29:00
Speaker 13: the valley because his father had come with George Washington
• 29:05
Speaker 13: to survey the land. So James Craig was very familiar
• 29:10
Speaker 13: with the territory and he wanted to come in here
• 29:13
Speaker 13: and settle, which he did and married a local woman,
• 29:17
Speaker 13: Julie Shrewsbury, and they built this beautiful house called the Elms.
• 29:24
Speaker 13: The first location of the house was about where on
• 29:28
Speaker 13: Virginia Street, near the Sacred Heart Playground. Then the house
• 29:33
Speaker 13: later on was moved to Lee Street where the current
• 29:38
Speaker 13: fire station exists, and then through the auspices of the
• 29:43
Speaker 13: City of Charleston, we were able to obtain land by
• 29:47
Speaker 13: the Daniel Boone Park and the house was now situated there.
• 29:52
Speaker 13: So the origin of the house is eighteen thirty four
• 29:57
Speaker 13: doctor by James Craig, who came into the valleys as
• 30:02
Speaker 13: an attorney and later became a rector of Saint John's
• 30:07
Speaker 13: Episcopal Church. The next occupants a little later on, in
• 30:13
Speaker 13: eighteen fifty seven, were George and Susan Patten, and he
• 30:21
Speaker 13: is the grandfather of General Patten of Second World War fame,
• 30:28
Speaker 13: so it has that Craig Patten history to it, and
• 30:33
Speaker 13: point out it's the only house historic house in the
• 30:37
Speaker 13: valley that's opened on a daily basis to visitors. So
• 30:41
Speaker 13: we're very excited to be able to expand our ground.
• 30:45
Speaker 13: We're now in a capital campaign. We're making it handicap
• 30:50
Speaker 13: accessible and it's going to be just and some other nice,
• 30:55
Speaker 13: very nice editions that will be lovely.
• 30:57
Speaker 4: And there may be a lot of people that are
• 30:59
Speaker 4: listening to that weren't even aware that this house was there.
• 31:03
  Speaker 1: Could they?
• 31:03
Speaker 4: Yes, we're going to try to change the josh the
• 31:06
  Speaker 4: suck to you.
• 31:06
  Speaker 8: Mom.
• 31:07
Speaker 14: Let's talk about your involvement in all this. Yeah, well,
• 31:09
Speaker 14: Pat and I go to church together. We go to
• 31:11
Speaker 14: First Presby right next door, and you may actually some
• 31:15
Speaker 14: of some listeners may know her name. She was previously
• 31:18
Speaker 14: the head of the Society of CPAs in West Virginia
• 31:21
Speaker 14: and so she's got a lot of very good connections.
• 31:23
Speaker 14: But we've gone to church together for years now and
• 31:26
Speaker 14: she invited me to be part of this process because
• 31:29
Speaker 14: they are a five oh one c three nonprofit, and
• 31:32
Speaker 14: this campaign is to obviously raise money to grow the
• 31:36
Speaker 14: organization and to update the facilities, but more importantly, it's
• 31:40
Speaker 14: to celebrate America's two hundred and fiftieth birthday. Given their history,
• 31:45
Speaker 14: their connections with George Washington, their connections with General George Patten,
• 31:49
Speaker 14: a lot of people don't know his family, the Pattent
• 31:52
Speaker 14: family right here in Kannack County. So it is a
• 31:56
Speaker 14: huge connection to America's history, to America's culture, sure, and
• 32:01
Speaker 14: we want to recognize that by throwing this event at
• 32:05
  Speaker 14: Barry Hills.
• 32:06
Speaker 4: And it's going to be on June twenty seventh. It'll
• 32:08
Speaker 4: start at eleven thirty in the morning. Pat talk about
• 32:12
Speaker 4: the planning for that, what's going on that day, and
• 32:15
Speaker 4: just kind of tell us about the event that day.
• 32:18
Speaker 13: I think it's going to be a very exciting day.
• 32:21
Speaker 13: We are going to have some special patriotic music, a
• 32:26
Speaker 13: brass group coming into play, and there'll be music in
• 32:30
Speaker 13: the four years people enter patriotic music. And then a
• 32:35
Speaker 13: highlight of the day will be a reenactment of Patrick
• 32:39
Speaker 13: Henry done by an actor from Philadelphia. And so I
• 32:44
Speaker 13: think it's going to be a lot of fiery speeches
• 32:48
Speaker 13: and rousing music. It will be quite special, and then
• 32:53
Speaker 13: a lovely lunch with a champagne toast to celebrate two
• 32:57
Speaker 13: hundred and fifty years of our country.
• 33:00
Speaker 4: And I think you're going to be seeing a whole
• 33:01
Speaker 4: lot more, you know, ahead of the two hundred and fifty.
• 33:04
Speaker 4: I know that Regatta's got some, you know, a lot
• 33:06
Speaker 4: of things going on in conjunction with that, and a
• 33:08
Speaker 4: lot of our communities, not only here in Nicknall Valley,
• 33:11
Speaker 4: West Virginia, but all around the state. And now I
• 33:12
Speaker 4: know you and all around the country, Josh, I know
• 33:15
Speaker 4: you're a history nerd, history buff, I should say, not
• 33:17
Speaker 4: nerd history. I'll take the title of nerd. So I
• 33:20
Speaker 4: know you're kind of in your element with this thing here.
• 33:23
Speaker 14: Oh yes, yes, And that's exactly why we're doing this.
• 33:27
Speaker 14: And so I do want to recognize some of our
• 33:29
Speaker 14: sponsors already. Loved Ones in Home Care is a title sponsor.
• 33:33
Speaker 14: Art and Virginia King have also they are a platinum sponsor.
• 33:38
Speaker 14: Several other sponsors for this event are are going to
• 33:41
Speaker 14: be announced in the coming weeks. And so it's not
• 33:45
Speaker 14: just me, it's other people here in the community in Kanawah, County,
• 33:49
Speaker 14: know the history of this museum, of this location, and
• 33:54
Speaker 14: recognize the importance of our patriotic duty of celebrating our
• 34:00
Speaker 14: two hundred and fiftieth birthday and the need for sponsors.
• 34:03
Speaker 14: I'm sure you would welcome more, right, Yes, I do
• 34:08
Speaker 14: know that there's some federal appropriations that are coming in
• 34:11
Speaker 14: later in the year. And also I think we've raised
• 34:15
Speaker 14: almost twenty thousand from this event, but we are actively
• 34:19
Speaker 14: looking for more sponsors. If anyone wants to look at
• 34:23
Speaker 14: the sponsorship packages, they can check out the website Craigpatenthouse
• 34:28
Speaker 14: dot org. We also have a very active Facebook page
• 34:32
Speaker 14: and we have an event on Facebook through event bright
• 34:36
Speaker 14: which I'd be happy to send the links to folks.
• 34:40
Speaker 14: But ranges the sponsorships range from five hundred dollars all
• 34:43
Speaker 14: the way up to ten thousand dollars, and as I said,
• 34:46
Speaker 14: we've got about twenty thousand or so in commitments and
• 34:50
Speaker 14: checks already sent, with more on the way.
• 34:54
Speaker 13: Dave, I'd like to point out that our location, I
• 34:57
Speaker 13: think is very important. We're on Root six, the Midland Trail,
• 35:02
Speaker 13: and we like to think of ourselves as kind of
• 35:04
Speaker 13: a gateway into the new National Park, and we are
• 35:11
Speaker 13: promoting that so that people will stop by and we'll
• 35:14
Speaker 13: give them information about how to go all the way
• 35:17
Speaker 13: up to the National Park. And we are working we
• 35:21
Speaker 13: have a consortium, the Midland Trail Consortium that we're working
• 35:25
Speaker 13: with the cities or the towns along the way and
• 35:31
Speaker 13: some of the businesses. So it's an important area.
• 35:36
Speaker 4: How many visitors, I mean just a ballpark figure do
• 35:38
Speaker 4: you think come through there during the year. I mean
• 35:40
Speaker 4: you get you get school groups or anything like that,
• 35:42
Speaker 4: or historical groups, you get you that sort of thing.
• 35:44
Speaker 13: We have both. I can't give you an exact number.
• 35:49
Speaker 13: I would say it's probably around five hundred visitors a year.
• 35:54
Speaker 13: Many of the people coming through our tourists who see
• 36:00
Speaker 13: they see are advertising on various places and they stop
• 36:04
Speaker 13: in and then we give them materials so they can
• 36:07
Speaker 13: they can continue their journey. But it's very, very satisfying
• 36:14
Speaker 13: to see people from out of state come in.
• 36:16
Speaker 4: It's it always, you know, when I was spend a
• 36:18
Speaker 4: lot of time at the Capitol, the amount of people,
• 36:21
Speaker 4: uh that and and like I was kind of getting
• 36:23
Speaker 4: my friend Josh a little you know, having a little
• 36:25
Speaker 4: fun with him by being a history nerd. But they're
• 36:26
Speaker 4: a buff But there are a lot of people that
• 36:30
Speaker 4: when they go to Town's Day, they really eat this
• 36:32
Speaker 4: stuff up. And I'm I'm kind of that way too.
• 36:34
Speaker 4: And when I was at the Capitol, I mean the
• 36:37
Speaker 4: amount of people that I guess I just wasn't prepared
• 36:39
Speaker 4: for the amount of tourists that come to the Capitol.
• 36:41
Speaker 4: But they don't always just go to the Capitol. They
• 36:43
Speaker 4: get they get often and Charleston and Josh, you know this, John,
• 36:46
Speaker 4: I mean, Charleston does have a lot of historical.
• 36:49
Speaker 13: Sites, absolutely, and it's it's very gratifying to have them
• 36:55
Speaker 13: come by after they've been to the Capitol or to
• 36:58
Speaker 13: other places and they are we are spending more than
• 37:01
Speaker 13: one day here. Many of them are staying overnight.
• 37:04
Speaker 4: And now this event's going to be June twenty seventh,
• 37:06
Speaker 4: starts at eleven thirty Berry Hills Country Club. Josh, give
• 37:10
Speaker 4: us the information websites, social media and give us the
• 37:13
  Speaker 4: whole thing.
• 37:14
Speaker 14: Yeah, so they can find us if they're interested in
• 37:16
Speaker 14: tickets or sponsorships at the Crake Patent House Facebook page.
• 37:21
Speaker 14: We also are on event bright for this particular celebration,
• 37:25
Speaker 14: and then our website is Crakpatenthouse dot org. Folks can
• 37:30
Speaker 14: also reach out to me through social media, email, text, whichever.
• 37:36
Speaker 14: I'm available publicly on social media, and we are actively
• 37:41
Speaker 14: looking for sponsors and selling tickets all the way up
• 37:44
Speaker 14: till the day of the event June twenty.
• 37:46
Speaker 13: Seventh, hoping that we well, we may have a sellout.
• 37:51
Speaker 13: We'll have to see.
• 37:52
  Speaker 4: I think so that's a plan. That's a plan.
• 37:54
  Speaker 3: We'll have to.
• 37:55
Speaker 13: Yeah, better get their their DIBs in early and.
• 37:57
Speaker 4: Get those tickets. We may have a sell And you know,
• 38:00
Speaker 4: I think you would be remiss, Pat if you didn't
• 38:03
Speaker 4: call it you were referring to the foyer, if you
• 38:05
Speaker 4: didn't refer to it as the Moyers foyer.
• 38:07
Speaker 13: I think you should do that. I just got a
• 38:09
Speaker 13: nice rink put oh I did. That's a very good
• 38:11
Speaker 13: idea to get one from the day. Well, yeah, he
• 38:13
Speaker 13: has the Moyers for Josh shaking motha, Matt Moyers. I
• 38:16
Speaker 13: appreciate you both being here.

Speaker 4: Welcome back to the show. Twelve minutes away from ten
• 40:20
Speaker 4: Texts said, the house is in such an odd, out
• 40:22
Speaker 4: of the way location, why not move it to the
• 40:24
Speaker 4: capital complex, such as beside the Culture Center or the
• 40:27
Speaker 4: lawn between the Governor's mansion and the Capitol building. Well,
• 40:30
Speaker 4: I don't know if that is possible. If it's possible,
• 40:35
Speaker 4: but I'm sure they're listening in the green room right now.
• 40:38
  Speaker 2: Uh, let me.
• 40:40
Speaker 4: Knock out a couple of other texts, and we're going
• 40:41
Speaker 4: to go to the City of Hurricane. Texts says California
• 40:46
Speaker 4: has the fourth largest economy in the world, and we
• 40:48
Speaker 4: have Republicans attacking the Democrats that run if they need
• 40:52
Speaker 4: to get their own house in order because it's burning
• 40:54
Speaker 4: down around them. That says a texture. Tex says all
• 40:57
Speaker 4: things we need on an everyday basis a sky under Trump,
• 41:00
Speaker 4: from gas, food, utilities, you name it. Texts says gas
• 41:07
Speaker 4: is four forty national average. Remember back in twenty twenty
• 41:09
Speaker 4: two when Russia invaded Ukraine and gas shot up like crazy,
• 41:13
Speaker 4: Republicans were one grunt away from blowing a gasket and
• 41:15
Speaker 4: simultaneously getting an aneurysm and other things. Well, the current
• 41:21
Speaker 4: silence about high gas prices is very noticeable. Perhaps it
• 41:24
Speaker 4: was never about high gas prices or the economy, says
• 41:29
Speaker 4: a Texter. All right, big happenings in the City of
• 41:31
Speaker 4: Hurricane with their annual main Street Spring Festival here to
• 41:34
Speaker 4: talk about Hurricane. Mayor Scott Edwards and the director of
• 41:37
Speaker 4: Fun for the City of Hurricane, she actually has a
• 41:40
Speaker 4: different title, but we call her the director of Fun.
• 41:43
Speaker 4: Amanda Smith. Rami mayor will start with you a good morning, sir,
• 41:47
Speaker 4: and welcome to the show.
• 41:49
Speaker 7: Good morning. How are you doing today?
• 41:51
Speaker 4: I am doing fine. And a director of fun, Rami,
• 41:53
Speaker 4: how are you doing?
• 41:55
  Speaker 15: I'm well?
• 41:56
  Speaker 2: Thank you.
• 41:57
  Speaker 4: She actually has.
• 42:00
Speaker 7: Our assistant City Major, but she runs all the events
• 42:04
Speaker 7: and all the kids in Hurricane Nova is a director
• 42:07
Speaker 7: of phone because she's the the person that does all
• 42:10
Speaker 7: this and he's the most fun person I know.
• 42:12
Speaker 13: And just so you know how to get that job.
• 42:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, and Amanda, just so you know, it was it
• 42:17
Speaker 4: was Mayor Edwards who told me to call you that,
• 42:19
Speaker 4: just so you know. Okay, I figured you figured that out,
• 42:22
Speaker 4: all right, all right, all right, So the big festival
• 42:24
Speaker 4: is going on tomorrow. Either one of you have director
• 42:27
Speaker 4: of Fun. Let's have you do it. Start with everything
• 42:29
Speaker 4: going on, the time, the location, the place, give us
• 42:31
  Speaker 4: the stuff.
• 42:33
  Speaker 7: Yep.
• 42:33
Speaker 15: So the Main Street Spring Festival is our annual let's
• 42:36
Speaker 15: get everybody back out and about. It's been a long winter.
• 42:39
Speaker 15: This is springtime now, so we're looking forward to it.
• 42:42
Speaker 15: It will be on Main Street between the A to
• 42:46
Speaker 15: Z Storage area and Joe's bell Knapp where the old
• 42:50
Speaker 15: fire station used to be from one to five pm.
• 42:55
Speaker 4: Mayor. Sounds like it's going to be a great Dame.
• 42:58
Speaker 7: It's going to be a wonder dat tomorrow. We've been
• 43:00
Speaker 7: doing this about about nineteen or twenty years, this Main
• 43:03
Speaker 7: Street Spring Festival, and there's going to be you know,
• 43:06
Speaker 7: shopping on main Street and all that type of thing.
• 43:09
Speaker 7: But during the festival there will be a magician, you know,
• 43:11
Speaker 7: and I love magicians, face painting, that's all you Dave.
• 43:15
Speaker 7: And of course you know our craft vendors. You know,
• 43:19
Speaker 7: there's photo ops, carnival games, inflatables and guess what, it's.
• 43:23
Speaker 4: All free, all free.
• 43:25
Speaker 7: It's absolutely all free, and we love free. We have
• 43:28
Speaker 7: a ton of sponsors, but it's it's all free. So
• 43:33
  Speaker 7: that's what's all about. And like a man it's said,
• 43:34
Speaker 7: it's about getting everybody back outside. It's time to gather
• 43:39
Speaker 7: people in Hurricane and really it's Putnam County and all around.
• 43:42
Speaker 7: We'll have people from many counties come to this.
• 43:44
Speaker 4: Oh they always do. I mean it's always a huge event.
• 43:48
Speaker 7: Yeah, and there's will be some food trucks on site. Amanda,
• 43:52
Speaker 7: who is that this year? It's I can't remember.
• 43:54
Speaker 15: Yeah, we've got wild and wonderful roles. They have more
• 43:57
Speaker 15: than just pepperoni rolls, lots of interesting types of roles.
• 44:02
Speaker 15: Caffeine and Chaos which has your dirty sodas and coffees
• 44:05
Speaker 15: and all of that, and then straggle pop kettle corn.
• 44:08
Speaker 15: But we also encourage everybody to check out the local
• 44:12
Speaker 15: downtown restaurants, restaurants around the city while you're out and about,
• 44:16
Speaker 15: so we've got food for you on site. But we
• 44:18
Speaker 15: also want to encourage everybody to eat local no matter
• 44:21
  Speaker 15: where you are.
• 44:22
Speaker 4: Indeed, then again we're talking and you.
• 44:23
Speaker 7: Know, and you know they can give to jose Bell
• 44:25
Speaker 7: Napp Sergio's. They can take a five minute walk around
• 44:29
Speaker 7: the corner and hit the Farley hot Dogs. So there's
• 44:32
Speaker 7: theres all kinds of food.
• 44:33
Speaker 4: You've got a lot of good stuff going on there
• 44:36
Speaker 4: in Hurricane. And I think sometimes you know and you
• 44:38
Speaker 4: know the I don't know whether you know this or not,
• 44:41
Speaker 4: Mayor Edwards, but TJ. Meadows has named me the mayor
• 44:44
Speaker 4: of tays Valley. So you've got Hurricane, Randy's got Winfield. Uh,
• 44:48
Speaker 4: but just so you know, I am the Mayor of
• 44:50
  Speaker 4: tays Valley.
• 44:50
Speaker 7: Nearly mayor. You're the mayor of Tay's Valley. Wow, that's
• 44:53
Speaker 7: I love that boiler things real quick, Yeah, if we've
• 44:57
Speaker 7: got just a moment. Yeah, Bearwood Company there hosting a
• 45:00
Speaker 7: paint party. You can buy an ornament, a ferry door
• 45:04
Speaker 7: or what's you need to cut out and paint it
• 45:05
Speaker 7: on site. And that's right on Main Street. Studies Guy's Boutique.
• 45:09
Speaker 7: They'll have a lot of extra fun with some jewelry
• 45:14
Speaker 7: vendor and lots of specials and extras. Of course, Joe's
• 45:16
Speaker 7: Bell Map they Theyn't have a family special promotion and
• 45:20
Speaker 7: they're gonna have some live music in the evening. So
• 45:23
Speaker 7: after the spring vessels all where the parties just getting
• 45:27
Speaker 7: started on main Street?
• 45:28
Speaker 4: All right, everything gets started. What time tomorrow morning, Amanda.
• 45:33
Speaker 15: It starts at one o'clock. We'll be prepping in the
• 45:35
Speaker 15: morning one o'clock. Come on out and anytime between one.
• 45:39
Speaker 4: And five and Metro News Media Brane. It's it's all free.
• 45:42
Speaker 4: And Brian Hughes tells us the weather's going to be
• 45:44
  Speaker 4: great tomorrow.
• 45:46
Speaker 15: It is. We're excited, all.
• 45:48
Speaker 4: Right, Amanda Smith Raimi, Director of Fun also known as
• 45:51
Speaker 4: the Assistan City manager of a hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards,
• 45:54

Speaker 4: How you know my friend, good buddy, I like that shirt? Well,
• 49:58
Speaker 4: thank you. I like the shirt you have on, because
• 50:01
Speaker 4: I had on the same one yesterday, not Metro news pullover,
• 50:04
Speaker 4: not exactly that one. But yeah, I think you missed
• 50:08
Speaker 4: the memo yesterday because Wilson had one on, I had
• 50:12
Speaker 4: one on the A train, Anthony Harmon had one on,
• 50:15
Speaker 4: and Logan Scott all had one on yesterday. So you're
• 50:17
Speaker 4: a day late, buddy. I'm always a day late and
• 50:18
Speaker 4: a dollar short, as they say. Have you calmed down
• 50:21
Speaker 4: a little bit after your end of show rant yesterday? Well, look,
• 50:24
Speaker 4: I don't know that I was all that raged just
• 50:27
Speaker 4: for you, because you're just always normally so laid back
• 50:30
Speaker 4: in case people weren't listening.
• 50:31
  Speaker 7: What was it?
• 50:31
Speaker 4: I'm gonna get hi what just Ryan? I'm gonna get
• 50:33
Speaker 4: him going again? So what was it that had you
• 50:36
  Speaker 4: so riled up?
• 50:36
  Speaker 7: There?
• 50:37
Speaker 16: So these ads we've been talking about how crazy they are,
• 50:39
Speaker 16: and there's an ad out from the Tom Willis campaign
• 50:42
Speaker 16: and look, I'm not shilling for Senator Capito here, as
• 50:46
Speaker 16: I've been accused stuff. But it's a picture of Capito
• 50:49
Speaker 16: and Pulosi. It's a real picture at the congressional softball game.
• 50:54
Speaker 16: Capito has played in that for years and they're having
• 50:56
Speaker 16: a lighthearted exchange. Heaven forbid, here we go. Heaven forbid
• 51:02
Speaker 16: that two lawmakers can get along at a congressional softball
• 51:06
Speaker 16: game that benefits breast cancer and be civil to one
• 51:10
Speaker 16: another and still disagree politically. Is that not what we want?
• 51:13
Speaker 16: Is that not the very thing that we want? And
• 51:16
Speaker 16: then you've got this ad that says she plays her
• 51:20
Speaker 16: on the wrong team or bats on the wrong side,
• 51:22
  Speaker 16: she's a Democrat.
• 51:23
Speaker 4: Come on, be better than that. I knew it wouldn't
• 51:26
Speaker 4: take much. Aren't you tired of it? Yes?
• 51:30
Speaker 16: Extremely do you think someone that does that is worthy
• 51:32
Speaker 16: of sitting in the US Senate?
• 51:35
Speaker 4: I would question that ad. I would not let that add.
• 51:37
Speaker 4: I mean, if I were that candidate, that ad would
• 51:39
Speaker 4: not go out. But that's just me.
• 51:41
Speaker 16: Well, I mean, because your mama raised you, right, I'm
• 51:45
Speaker 16: talking about people's moms.
• 51:46
