Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, this is it, guys. Somehow it feels like we've
- 0:02Speaker 1: done quite a few podcasts, but it always feels like
- 0:04Speaker 1: it kind of creeps up on me as well. Game
- 0:06Speaker 1: week one is here, So here's your first reminder. And
- 0:09Speaker 1: I think I've said this before, but if you're going
- 0:10Speaker 1: to miss any deadline all season, don't let it be
- 0:12Speaker 1: this one because you'll be on the back foot immediately.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Is your first deadline is Friday, the twenty first. Is
- 0:18Speaker 1: the twenty first? You have twenty first of August at
- 0:21Speaker 1: six thirty pm, that is before the season opener between
- 0:24Speaker 1: the champions Arsenal and newly promoted Coventry. So yeah, great
- 0:28Speaker 1: to be back officially back and also Joel was great
- 0:30Speaker 1: to have you back. And someone has wed on said
- 0:33Speaker 1: this town is ridiculously like you've just been on loads
- 0:35Speaker 1: of so beds.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yeah, we had a lot of good sign in France.
- 0:39Speaker 2: You know, I think we had signed everywhere, to be fair,
- 0:41Speaker 2: but it was good to be on holidays. It's time
- 0:43Speaker 2: to be back now for FBI, for the Premier League,
- 0:46Speaker 2: for all European leagues, the Champions League is coming out
- 0:48Speaker 2: soon as everything so is very exciting.
- 0:51Speaker 1: We were just grateful you told us the day before
- 0:53Speaker 1: that your WiFi wasn't working normally on the way back
- 0:56Speaker 1: from Champions League Gas. We get it at seven thirty
- 0:57Speaker 1: in the morning ahead of a AM starts. We were very relieved.
- 1:00Speaker 1: All went seamlessly. What we did miss you, of course,
- 1:03Speaker 1: hopefully hopefully you've been sorting that team out, and Sam,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I know you will definitely have been sorting that team out.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Tinkering a lot.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'm nearly there thoughcals Like last week,
- 1:15Speaker 3: I felt like I was still a bit up in
- 1:17Speaker 3: the air this week. I do feel like it's just
- 1:18Speaker 3: my defense. I cannot settle on a defense. They change
- 1:21Speaker 3: every five minutes, so but the forward line, the midfielders,
- 1:24Speaker 3: and the goalkeepers I haven't really changed at all for
- 1:27Speaker 3: a while now, so I thinks changed a bit though,
- 1:30Speaker 3: hasn't it changed on well, one of the positions changed
- 1:34Speaker 3: on Sunday. Yeah, But outside of that, most of them
- 1:37Speaker 3: have been have been quite static for a while. The
- 1:40Speaker 3: all move here are there, but I do feel like
- 1:42Speaker 3: I've pretty much locked those in now for game week one,
- 1:44Speaker 3: So it's just deciding on the defense, and I'm there's
- 1:50Speaker 3: so many I like.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I think that's the problem. This season to hold that
- 1:53Speaker 1: thought because you don't worry because we're going to help you.
- 1:56Speaker 1: We're going to come on very soon, and I don't
- 1:59Speaker 1: want people going to tell us your draft because there's
- 2:01Speaker 1: a couple of things I want to talk about before then.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Because the Community Shield, other preseason matches will have played
- 2:06Speaker 1: into the changes that Sam's made, the changes I've made,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and probably the changes that Jewels has made as well.
- 2:10Speaker 1: The reason I'm saying Sam and mine is because we've
- 2:12Speaker 1: got a very similar looking attack without knowing it. We
- 2:14Speaker 1: were asked to post to our team in the group
- 2:16Speaker 1: last night and neither of us knew he were going
- 2:17Speaker 1: to be a similar as we were. Anyway, the Community
- 2:19Speaker 1: Shield had a massive impact on my thinking because I've
- 2:23Speaker 1: been a aciosaka kind of convert wanted him the whole
- 2:27Speaker 1: way through. I have kind of said, I know he's
- 2:29Speaker 1: a lot of money and he probably was going to go,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and the Community Shield actually sealed it for me because Jules,
- 2:34Speaker 1: the player that you said and you've had in your
- 2:36Speaker 1: draft all season, I mean, he's now going to be
- 2:39Speaker 1: ridiculously owned, isn'ty No, I'm talking about right.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah, christ Solis, who is the new winger Arsenal, who
- 2:48Speaker 2: came to replace Little Toad who obviously left in this
- 2:51Speaker 2: in the summer, which who was very good last season
- 2:54Speaker 2: in Bedgium, but to make that step up from the
- 2:56Speaker 2: Bedgim League where he was arguably the best player there,
- 2:59Speaker 2: to the league and too a team like Arsenal, the
- 3:01Speaker 2: champions and and everything that comes comes along with that.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Although he knows a little bit English football because he
- 3:08Speaker 2: had a speller norlwedge, not a great spect but when
- 3:10Speaker 2: he was a bit younger, but he was outstanding in
- 3:13Speaker 2: that game, not in a too flashy way, I thought,
- 3:16Speaker 2: but very much in a I know exactly what I'm
- 3:18Speaker 2: here for and do my job both with the ball
- 3:20Speaker 2: and without the ball, defensively and offensively, all of that.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And obviously he becomes a thing very attractive for a
- 3:27Speaker 2: lot of managers because you know he's going to start
- 3:30Speaker 2: on that left hand side unless they signed another left winger,
- 3:33Speaker 2: and then there's a bit of competition, but right now
- 3:35Speaker 2: the only competition really is Gabrielle Martinelli, who's not really
- 3:39Speaker 2: in the picture for Mikael Arteta in Arsenal right now.
- 3:41Speaker 2: So with Tolely, you almost guaranteed the minutes you guarantee
- 3:46Speaker 2: the like we said, a lot of activity on that
- 3:48Speaker 2: left hand side, and clearly his partnership with Calafiury behind
- 3:52Speaker 2: him and potentially a midfielder like Bruno Gi Maresh or
- 3:57Speaker 2: Declan Right or mis Luis Kelly is already very proper.
- 4:00Speaker 2: So I think Tolis has to be although I changed him,
- 4:04Speaker 2: but it has to be on top of a lot
- 4:06Speaker 2: of the manager's list.
- 4:07Speaker 1: See you've not got him now, as it fends.
- 4:09Speaker 2: No, because I thought Martin of the Guard looked even better,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and I do think that as good as Tollis might be,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I still think there will be a bit of time
- 4:17Speaker 2: where he would need to adapt to the Premidia. This
- 4:20Speaker 2: was one game against City where everything when his weare
- 4:23Speaker 2: whereas I think, oh, the guy looks so sharp and
- 4:26Speaker 2: he's the leader of this team with them without the ball,
- 4:29Speaker 2: and I think the goal that is called shows that
- 4:31Speaker 2: he's probably back very close to the best level that
- 4:33Speaker 2: he had a few years ago when he had that
- 4:35Speaker 2: wonderful season. So I went back and forth between the
- 4:39Speaker 2: two and I think that at the same price, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: in the end I chose all the Guard, But I
- 4:43Speaker 2: think Tolis makes a lot of sense as well.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it does look like, oh the God's back to
- 4:47Speaker 1: his best A brilliant World Cup as well, doesn't it. It
- 4:49Speaker 1: does look like his momentum as kind of has kind
- 4:52Speaker 1: of carried forward. If he can stay fitting at that level,
- 4:54Speaker 1: it definitely is a good option. And someone with haven't
- 4:56Speaker 1: spoken about too much on this pod or inn FPO
- 4:59Speaker 1: for quite some time. Sam, So yourself and I have
- 5:02Speaker 1: gone for so this now? Is that a set definite
- 5:06Speaker 1: for you? Because I'm not one hundred percent at the
- 5:08Speaker 1: moment because I've had to take out Pascal Gross. Though
- 5:11Speaker 1: I think that Brighton's transfer business has also played into
- 5:14Speaker 1: that for me a little bit because I think their
- 5:16Speaker 1: new striker I've completely forgotten his name as we're singing
- 5:18Speaker 1: it now promise yes that was it quite an easy
- 5:22Speaker 1: one to remember, has maybe lessened his appeal a little
- 5:25Speaker 1: bit potentially, so that made it a bit easier to move.
- 5:28Speaker 1: But I like the fact that Pascal Gross is a
- 5:29Speaker 1: million cheaper, so I could still I could still go there.
- 5:32Speaker 1: But for you, is he is he definitely in your team?
- 5:34Speaker 3: M Yeah, As was saying last week when we did
- 5:37Speaker 3: this podcast, I don't like starting the season without an
- 5:39Speaker 3: Arsenal attacker, especially given the opening fixture, and I didn't
- 5:42Speaker 3: want to pay the money to have for Coiosaka, and
- 5:45Speaker 3: I wasn't at that point sure about anybody else in
- 5:48Speaker 3: that Arsenal attack and whether it was worth going for them,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and then the Community Shield played out. I mean, it
- 5:55Speaker 3: changed my mind and tiredly on everything that I was
- 5:57Speaker 3: planning to do with Arsenal, to be honest, and I
- 5:59Speaker 3: think for six point five it gives you a really
- 6:01Speaker 3: nice option on that left hand side that we can
- 6:04Speaker 3: go to. I don't need somebody that I'm necessarily going
- 6:07Speaker 3: to hold for ten twelve weeks. It's just somebody to
- 6:10Speaker 3: kind of get through the early parts of the season
- 6:12Speaker 3: and I'm I'm probably happy to transfer him out kind
- 6:16Speaker 3: of game week three, possibly maybe even before that.
- 6:20Speaker 1: So it's just an opportunity.
- 6:21Speaker 3: To go with a player that's got a great fixture
- 6:23Speaker 3: on Friday evening, good attacking throughout. We saw him do
- 6:26Speaker 3: well in the Community Shield and gets me a buy
- 6:29Speaker 3: into that Arsenal attacks as a means of being able
- 6:34Speaker 3: to look and just see what looks better elsewhere. If anything,
- 6:37Speaker 3: if he looked great and continues to play well, then
- 6:40Speaker 3: he can stay. It's just one of those nice easy ins.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I think for Friday, I think so.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I was going to say to this, he's on by
- 6:47Speaker 2: almost twenty percent of the managers or the guard is
- 6:51Speaker 2: still a differential at six point five pc.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Yes, at least went up massively because he was only
- 6:56Speaker 3: by like four percent ahead of the Community Shield. So
- 6:59Speaker 3: was a massive differential at that stage. And then obviously
- 7:02Speaker 3: community Shield happens and like Cals and I, the world
- 7:05Speaker 3: and his wife decides that they want him in their
- 7:07Speaker 3: fl teams.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I've been telling you for weeks, you know you.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Have, You've been telling us, you know you're taking him out,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and now we're following. But because I hate to be
- 7:16Speaker 1: so influenced by you Jews. But actually I just checked
- 7:19Speaker 1: then while Sam was talking, and I hadn't realized Oda,
- 7:21Speaker 1: God was actually only six point five I had in
- 7:23Speaker 1: my head leaves a little bit more. He hasn't really
- 7:25Speaker 1: come into my thinking. But actually Sam everything and hates
- 7:29Speaker 1: saying this that Jews has just said there makes a
- 7:31Speaker 1: lot of sense, doesn't it.
- 7:32Speaker 2: So again I could not hear he broke.
- 7:35Speaker 1: If you need to be in back, just just listen
- 7:37Speaker 1: back if you I'm not repeating it.
- 7:39Speaker 2: But you know what, I could not believe before some
- 7:41Speaker 2: good I could not believe they were the same price.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I didn't think.
- 7:43Speaker 1: That's just surprise me. I just looked, well, I can't
- 7:46Speaker 1: get to oder God. I can And actually Sam and
- 7:49Speaker 1: as Jewels said that that's a big ownership difference. I
- 7:52Speaker 1: mean the flip side, and we've talked about that at
- 7:53Speaker 1: this stage of the season, that if if Solace goes off,
- 7:56Speaker 1: it can affect you. But actually oder God's got a
- 7:59Speaker 1: lot more I know he's had injury issues and he's
- 8:02Speaker 1: not always been in the team for Ricky Lams, but
- 8:03Speaker 1: he's got a lot more history behind him to show
- 8:05Speaker 1: that he can perform in this Arsenal team.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Absolutely, And ownership is a really important thing heading into
- 8:11Speaker 3: game we want because obviously when the people are most engaged,
- 8:17Speaker 3: when the whole audience is that they're most engaged, people
- 8:19Speaker 3: make really quick, rash decisions. And the fact that Arsenal
- 8:21Speaker 3: player on Friday night, we will see who whoever it is,
- 8:25Speaker 3: and there will be somebody in the Arsenal team that
- 8:27Speaker 3: goes off and scores really well. We will see a
- 8:30Speaker 3: massive influx of people buying them on Friday evening after
- 8:33Speaker 3: the deadline ahead of game week two, and that will
- 8:35Speaker 3: mean that people rise and fall very quickly in price.
- 8:38Speaker 3: So one of the negatives about owning players that are
- 8:41Speaker 3: more heavily owned is that if they don't do something
- 8:45Speaker 3: in that first second game week, they'll be heavily sold
- 8:49Speaker 3: and therefore your potential to lose money on them is higher,
- 8:54Speaker 3: Whereas if you go for somebody that's more lowly owned,
- 8:58Speaker 3: there's less people that can potentially sell them, and then
- 9:00Speaker 3: obviously it's maybe less likely that they're going to drop
- 9:04Speaker 3: in price. So that is definitely something I consider. It's
- 9:07Speaker 3: also something that I consider when I'm thinking about what
- 9:09Speaker 3: might happen in the early week. So if you remember
- 9:11Speaker 3: last season, I decided in my infinite wisdom to start
- 9:14Speaker 3: the season without jar Pedro, who was really heavily owned
- 9:17Speaker 3: at the time and did incredibly well, and I really
- 9:21Speaker 3: struggled with not having him because every time he does something,
- 9:25Speaker 3: it obviously has a negative effect on your own ship.
- 9:27Speaker 3: So it can play out both ways, because if they
- 9:29Speaker 3: are popular in the game and then do well and
- 9:32Speaker 3: you don't have them, that's going to hurt in terms
- 9:35Speaker 3: of the way that your season begins, Whereas if they
- 9:37Speaker 3: are popular and don't start the season that well, they're
- 9:40Speaker 3: likely take tumbles in price, and then that affects your
- 9:42Speaker 3: team value. So you have to just weigh all of
- 9:44Speaker 3: those things up when it comes to making your decisions.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be interesting, I think. But ode
- 9:48Speaker 1: Goard is definitely a name that I've probably not heard
- 9:50Speaker 1: as much, but maybe we will in the next few
- 9:54Speaker 1: hours before this deadline. Elsewhere I think the defense is
- 9:58Speaker 1: it's just a bit of a minefield, isn't it to
- 9:59Speaker 1: know where to go as it stands in my draft,
- 10:02Speaker 1: I've got Ezri Konza listeners. I've had him for a
- 10:05Speaker 1: few weeks now. That's probably going to change just because yes, great,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'm going to have a four point five million arsenal defender.
- 10:11Speaker 1: We don't quite know when he'll feature, but yeah, what
- 10:14Speaker 1: does this mean for the rest of the defense?
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we saw some interesting things. Let's say
- 10:20Speaker 2: at the community she again, the form of Calafiury, while
- 10:22Speaker 2: he's fit, was outstanding because he's just not a left back.
- 10:26Speaker 2: He pops up everywhere on that page. Sort of great goal.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Could have had another one is I think there's that
- 10:32Speaker 2: kind of value if you want to go with Calafiury
- 10:34Speaker 2: in your defense at five point five, which is the
- 10:36Speaker 2: same prices as most Care for example, who is just
- 10:39Speaker 2: a center back, so you would get this, you would
- 10:42Speaker 2: get the same points defensively, let's say more or less
- 10:45Speaker 2: with Calafury than you get with most Cara, but you
- 10:46Speaker 2: get much more going forward from Calafiury. And Gabrielle was there.
- 10:51Speaker 2: He was solid. But as we as we said, I
- 10:53Speaker 2: think a couple of weeks ago, and you probably said
- 10:56Speaker 2: last week as well on the show, is that million
- 10:58Speaker 2: that's two point five more then Calafiori for example. And
- 11:02Speaker 2: yet Gabrielle would be great on set pieces, but there
- 11:05Speaker 2: was no much of from the said piece routine with
- 11:08Speaker 2: Arsenal in that community chill against City for example. So
- 11:11Speaker 2: that's all of that to keep in mind. Then what
- 11:13Speaker 2: was our right back? But as we said, concert as
- 11:15Speaker 2: we're expecting will be an Arsenal player quite soon, we
- 11:18Speaker 2: don't know exactly your right case when he's going to play,
- 11:21Speaker 2: because he hasn't really had a proper precision, hasn't played
- 11:24Speaker 2: a single minute with aston Villa in that preseason for example,
- 11:28Speaker 2: a post World Cup two, so he might need a
- 11:31Speaker 2: bit of time to get ready and fit and match
- 11:35Speaker 2: fit certainly to play with Arsenal. But once he's there
- 11:38Speaker 2: again we will have the conversation do we bring concerts
- 11:40Speaker 2: an Arsenal defender or not? And then we saw a
- 11:43Speaker 2: great David Raya who had probably too safe to make
- 11:46Speaker 2: and he made them really, really well. And again you
- 11:49Speaker 2: start thinking, is he worth spending that money on Ria
- 11:51Speaker 2: because it looks like again it's going to be the
- 11:53Speaker 2: best goal keeper in the league.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Is he worth it? Jews, what do you think?
- 11:57Speaker 2: Yeah? I think if you can get there, if you
- 11:59Speaker 2: have the money, I see nothing wrong with the double
- 12:03Speaker 2: goalkeeper and defender from Arsenal attorally in your team. But
- 12:07Speaker 2: at six point five he's expensive for a goalkeeper.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Sam, where are you settling on the Arsenal kind of defense?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Defensive double up?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Even so, I'm that person that spent the community shield
- 12:17Speaker 3: counting defensive contributions and trying to weigh up the balance
- 12:21Speaker 3: between having somebody that might bring defensive contributions and having
- 12:25Speaker 3: somebody like Calafiury who might bring new goals and attacking returns.
- 12:29Speaker 3: And it was a really tough one because even Gabrielle
- 12:32Speaker 3: didn't hit defensive contributions in this one, he would have
- 12:34Speaker 3: got he got seven. So wouldn't have hit the threshold square.
- 12:39Speaker 3: He got two across the game. Calafiury got one, so
- 12:43Speaker 3: you're not going to get them from them. Ben White
- 12:44Speaker 3: was the defensive contribution king in this one. He hit twelve,
- 12:46Speaker 3: so he would have hit the extra points and obviously,
- 12:48Speaker 3: as George mentioned, Raia would have picked up a safe point.
- 12:51Speaker 3: So we had a little bit of upside from both
- 12:53Speaker 3: of those. But Kali Fury obviously had it had twenty
- 12:56Speaker 3: seven attacking touches. That's ridiculous for a defense. So having
- 13:02Speaker 3: been on the square the whole of preseason, the lack
- 13:07Speaker 3: of defensive contributions in this one in a game where
- 13:09Speaker 3: actually I sometimes expect more because you're more likely to
- 13:12Speaker 3: get defensive contributions in games against the other bigger attacking
- 13:16Speaker 3: clubs because obviously they attack. The fact he only got
- 13:20Speaker 3: two has put me off. And yes, you know, maybe
- 13:24Speaker 3: there's a little bit more rotation threat with Califury, but
- 13:27Speaker 3: I think with that, every time Arsenal had the ball
- 13:29Speaker 3: and they were pressurizing City, he was involved. So I
- 13:33Speaker 3: think I'm going to start the season with him now,
- 13:34Speaker 3: which is a complete u turn from where I was
- 13:37Speaker 3: this time last week.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, well I've been between the two of them the
- 13:40Speaker 1: whole way through and actually kind of helped me seeing
- 13:43Speaker 1: that game. I'm kind of set on Klifury now, I think.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And also, of course Saker Rice not starting. I mean,
- 13:50Speaker 1: we didn't expect them to start Jews, did we, And
- 13:53Speaker 1: it probably means that investing in them at this point
- 13:56Speaker 1: is a bit tricky, isn't it, because we don't You
- 13:58Speaker 1: imagine they'll start the weekend.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Do you? Yeah? I think Socca maybe more than than Rice.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I mean, both of them had a very long season
- 14:06Speaker 2: last year.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Rice looked, Rice looked, didn't me by that last game,
- 14:09Speaker 1: where Soaka looked like he was reaching a peak fitness,
- 14:12Speaker 1: whereas Rice, by the end of that last game could
- 14:14Speaker 1: I'm sure it wouldn't mit me saying because he probably
- 14:16Speaker 1: he could barely walk it look like.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, I agree completely, And so I don't know.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I think both of them are obviously in contention. And
- 14:27Speaker 2: if you asked a Mila, you would want your strongest
- 14:29Speaker 2: team to start the season, but you also know it's
- 14:31Speaker 2: going to be a very long season. Don't take any
- 14:34Speaker 2: risk early. They've got great depth in the squad now
- 14:37Speaker 2: and all of that, so I wouldn't be surprised if
- 14:39Speaker 2: Maduek started, for example, ahead of Soaca on Friday night.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Rice is also for me not going to start on
- 14:48Speaker 2: Friday night, because again, you could easily see Mikelartita starting
- 14:51Speaker 2: the same team that started against City against Coventry on
- 14:54Speaker 2: Friday and that would make a lot of sense.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, what a Boutman's City, then, Sam, because I saw
- 14:59Speaker 1: a lot of their ownership dropped a lot more. No
- 15:01Speaker 1: Harland drafts appeared, didn't they. Where are we at with this?
- 15:05Speaker 1: Because I mean, I've got Vardiel and I think I'll
- 15:08Speaker 1: start with him. But it did make me go, oh,
- 15:10Speaker 1: I don't know, this is the wisest move. Yeah, it's funny,
- 15:13Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 15:13Speaker 3: Because I went into the Community Shield with three Manchester
- 15:16Speaker 3: City players and came out of it with just one
- 15:20Speaker 3: Harlan and I just won't compromise on. I think it's
- 15:23Speaker 3: one of those, isn't it, where I just can't see
- 15:27Speaker 3: any value in not starting him because if he doesn't start, well, okay,
- 15:30Speaker 3: well seventy percent of the game have him, and so
- 15:33Speaker 3: then you're all in the same boat. And all right,
- 15:35Speaker 3: you don't get that little bit of upside. But we
- 15:36Speaker 3: do know that historically early in Harlan is incredible in August,
- 15:40Speaker 3: he starts the seasons really, really well, so I'm not
- 15:43Speaker 3: prepared to take that risk. The other two that I
- 15:45Speaker 3: had going into it were Vardio and Phil Foden. And
- 15:50Speaker 3: it's a tough one because it is one game in
- 15:53Speaker 3: preseason and that shouldn't necessarily overtake all of the rest
- 15:57Speaker 3: of our thinking and what we've seen across the rest
- 15:58Speaker 3: of preseason. But you can't help but feel like, well,
- 16:02Speaker 3: going into this one, they would have expected a good
- 16:05Speaker 3: performance from Manchester City.
- 16:07Speaker 1: We didn't get one.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Partly that's because Arsenal played incredibly well and they won't
- 16:12Speaker 3: face Arsenal every week, but it did put me off.
- 16:15Speaker 3: And given that there are other teams who have better
- 16:20Speaker 3: fixtures or are in better form going into those fixtures
- 16:24Speaker 3: to start the season and are roughly the same price
- 16:26Speaker 3: as the Manchester City assets, I kind of decided that
- 16:30Speaker 3: maybe the best point of course for me would be
- 16:32Speaker 3: to invest in like Manchester United instead in the opening
- 16:36Speaker 3: couple of weeks. It gives me a couple of weeks
- 16:38Speaker 3: then to watch Manchester City to work out is it
- 16:41Speaker 3: Phil Fodin, is it somebody else that I'd like to
- 16:45Speaker 3: have supporting Harlan in my FPL attack from them. Is
- 16:50Speaker 3: it Gavardil or do I actually just need to find
- 16:52Speaker 3: the budget because last season Nico o'reiley was brilliant, but
- 16:55Speaker 3: it wasn't really because of his clean sheet potential. It
- 16:57Speaker 3: was because of how attacking he was, whereas City weren't
- 17:01Speaker 3: hugely brilliant in terms of their defending last season. So
- 17:06Speaker 3: I'm just erring on the side of caution. I think
- 17:09Speaker 3: with Manchester City going into this one, I'll start with
- 17:11Speaker 3: Harlan and then I'll use the opening couple of game
- 17:13Speaker 3: weeks as an opportunity to just watch, gain some understanding
- 17:17Speaker 3: about how they're going to play under Maresca, and then
- 17:20Speaker 3: pick out a couple more Manchester City assets before we
- 17:23Speaker 3: hit game week three.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Okay, let's move on to the other preseason matches, because
- 17:27Speaker 1: although the community shields the headline and felt the most
- 17:29Speaker 1: serious of them all, there were some big wins for
- 17:32Speaker 1: the likes of Brentford for Leeds. I mean, Brighton won,
- 17:36Speaker 1: Newcastle lost again, didn't they. I know they then went
- 17:38Speaker 1: on to draw as well, And I'm not going to
- 17:40Speaker 1: go through all of the all of the results obviously,
- 17:42Speaker 1: another headline, by the way, a Simlam beating Man United
- 17:45Speaker 1: four two. But where did some of the other games,
- 17:48Speaker 1: Jewels maybe leave your thinking when it came to your team,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I thought, and.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I'm not saying that because obviously Sam is here, but
- 17:54Speaker 2: I suppose looked really good against Offer nine Winter Home,
- 17:58Speaker 2: like Mattistelle for example, like Andrew Robertson, mikeim Moore played
- 18:03Speaker 2: really well and scored two goals for Bergvar was good.
- 18:05Speaker 2: So there was a lot of positives I thought against
- 18:08Speaker 2: the team that was not played really well last season
- 18:11Speaker 2: and even qualify for the Champions League, but didn't really
- 18:14Speaker 2: seem ready and they have another week by the way,
- 18:17Speaker 2: in Germany before the league starts. The league doesn't start
- 18:20Speaker 2: this weekend. Like like I was hearing in England, I
- 18:23Speaker 2: thought Dominic Calver Lewin did really well and Leeds looked
- 18:27Speaker 2: good as well in their win against Augsburg. Oxburg again
- 18:30Speaker 2: not as much fit probably as Leeds United for the
- 18:32Speaker 2: reason I just I just explained. As Liverpool against Como
- 18:37Speaker 2: and Jeremy Jacquet, the young French in Tobacco who we
- 18:40Speaker 2: really saw for the first time in this kind of
- 18:42Speaker 2: environment against the Champions League team was outstanding from from
- 18:46Speaker 2: the from start to finish, really in the time that
- 18:49Speaker 2: he played, in the half that he played against against
- 18:51Speaker 2: the Italian sides, and I think it's the name that
- 18:53Speaker 2: we need to keep in mind because the Liverpool fixtures
- 18:56Speaker 2: are decent and if you can't get to Virgil von Dyke,
- 18:58Speaker 2: I think Jack who will play is very interesting and
- 19:02Speaker 2: even scored. And then another good performance I thought from
- 19:04Speaker 2: Chelsea from Joe Pedro and Chabbi Alonzo's side against Associodads
- 19:10Speaker 2: in the three one wins. So there was a lot
- 19:11Speaker 2: of really positive things from a lot I thought of
- 19:14Speaker 2: the Premier League side.
- 19:16Speaker 3: So yeah, I was at Spurs on Saturday afternoon. Van
- 19:19Speaker 3: Heck hit defcon in that one twelve from him in
- 19:22Speaker 3: a game where Hoffenheim weren't really that attacking, and that
- 19:25Speaker 3: really swayed me because I thought, well, if you're going
- 19:27Speaker 3: to pick up twelve defensive contribution points in a game
- 19:29Speaker 3: where you're facing a side that actually didn't do a
- 19:31Speaker 3: huge amount of attacking, then that bowes well for the
- 19:33Speaker 3: Premier League games when you are going to get teams
- 19:36Speaker 3: that do a lot of attacking.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Jaws mentioned Robbo.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I thought he was excellent and with you, Doggie not
- 19:42Speaker 3: in those final two preseason squads, it looks like he's
- 19:44Speaker 3: going to be the one to start the season at
- 19:45Speaker 3: left back. He was very good and starting to build
- 19:48Speaker 3: a nice relationship with Tail down that side. I was
- 19:50Speaker 3: also super impressed with Brentford. I mean, it was a
- 19:53Speaker 3: really really good performance from them. Sangari, who we were
- 19:56Speaker 3: all expecting to be defensive contributions king for us in
- 19:59Speaker 3: midfield this season, popping up with his first brentth of goal,
- 20:02Speaker 3: which was good. Thiago a couple of goals and an
- 20:04Speaker 3: assist for this one now, and he's played two preseason
- 20:06Speaker 3: matches and he's got an attacking return in both of them.
- 20:09Speaker 3: So he's definitely one that we've kind of all ruled
- 20:11Speaker 3: out because he feels expensive on the back of last season,
- 20:14Speaker 3: but maybe we shouldn't have. I was also impressed by
- 20:16Speaker 3: Kevin Charda in this one. A couple of girls, a
- 20:18Speaker 3: couple of assists from him, but that is every attacking
- 20:21Speaker 3: return that he's had in preseason came in this one,
- 20:23Speaker 3: so we kind of should tamper it. Dominic Cavalleuin, as
- 20:26Speaker 3: George mentioned, he's now got an attacking return every forty
- 20:29Speaker 3: three minutes throughout preseason. So if he carries on at
- 20:32Speaker 3: that rate, then we could have another fantastic season out
- 20:34Speaker 3: of him. So yeah, some really interesting performances brighton with
- 20:38Speaker 3: a clean sheet that I'll make Robergan increasingly popular I
- 20:41Speaker 3: think as well. Manchester United another learning point. We were
- 20:45Speaker 3: all kind of sat there wondering whether who was going
- 20:48Speaker 3: to be the person that Bruno Fernanders would aim out
- 20:49Speaker 3: without Casamiro there, and quite early on in this one
- 20:52Speaker 3: we seem to get the nod that it might be
- 20:54Speaker 3: Harry Maguire, who then rose massively in popularity as a
- 20:57Speaker 3: result of that goal. But again you haven't had the
- 21:00Speaker 3: clean sheet from them, so you have to kind of
- 21:02Speaker 3: the Luke Shore owners maybe need to consider whether it's
- 21:05Speaker 3: worth the investment in the Manchester United defense given that
- 21:08Speaker 3: they do regularly concede your goal and he doesn't have
- 21:11Speaker 3: as much potential outside as you get for spending the
- 21:13Speaker 3: extra on Harry Maguire.
- 21:15Speaker 1: As someone that is a Lucile owner and is desperate,
- 21:17Speaker 1: but fine point five to get to Maguire. I feel
- 21:20Speaker 1: that bang completely and that brings us some nice lead
- 21:22Speaker 1: to our drafts. People have probably got a good idea
- 21:25Speaker 1: of where we're at from some of the things that
- 21:26Speaker 1: we have said so far. Plenty of changes for all
- 21:29Speaker 1: of us, actually, which shows that it's getting serious. Do
- 21:33Speaker 1: you want to run through your team so far?
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah? So I changed one of the goalkeepers. I kept
- 21:38Speaker 2: verb Brugen. I went from Kingsky to Lamons because I
- 21:42Speaker 2: just think the first two United fixtures against her City
- 21:46Speaker 2: and I switch are just very good from a United
- 21:48Speaker 2: point of view, not just for Lamons in Gold, but
- 21:50Speaker 2: also for the rest of the team. I would love
- 21:53Speaker 2: to be able to get Tombomo, for example, because I
- 21:55Speaker 2: think he's going to be great ony at the start
- 21:57Speaker 2: of the season and I thought Lamon's and Verbrugen rotates
- 22:00Speaker 2: actually quite well for the first few weeks of the season. Defensively,
- 22:05Speaker 2: I had most Caral like a lot of us, and
- 22:07Speaker 2: then moved out to Calafiori. I put Robertson instead of
- 22:10Speaker 2: Concert for a four five million defender. I thought Robertson
- 22:14Speaker 2: is a really good pick. Concert would have been great.
- 22:17Speaker 2: But as we said, with the move immin a move
- 22:19Speaker 2: to our s, it's a bit different. Virgil is still
- 22:22Speaker 2: the other three main defender, the third man defender. Sorry.
- 22:26Speaker 2: And then I've got on Hairweek and job as the
- 22:29Speaker 2: kind of backup cheap four four million pound defenders in midfield.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Nothing has changed apart from the so list to all
- 22:37Speaker 2: the guns. But I still have la Fe and d I,
- 22:39Speaker 2: Rogers and Bruno obviously, and up front is still Alan, Joe,
- 22:43Speaker 2: Pedro and Robbi. But in my head Robby and calval
- 22:46Speaker 2: Lewin at the same price for now. I like Robby's
- 22:50Speaker 2: first fixtures in Ipswich and Fulham. Calveral Lewin is calling
- 22:56Speaker 2: me in my head saying like, please bring me in.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I'm in the former my life, like how can you
- 23:01Speaker 2: not play me? And Liza Forrest and Branford, which are
- 23:04Speaker 2: also too decent fixtures to have, So it'd be either
- 23:07Speaker 2: probably or Cavalleuin probably starting the season.
- 23:10Speaker 1: She's still on the Chelsea double up in the attack.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yeah. I think Pedrol looked amazing in preseason in those games,
- 23:16Speaker 2: and I think Rogers. I think this is a system
- 23:18Speaker 2: that Rogers. I think he would be great for Chabi Alonzo.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I think Chelsea would have a really good season anyway.
- 23:23Speaker 2: So I think if you don't get them now, you
- 23:26Speaker 2: will get them at some points, whether it's them too
- 23:28Speaker 2: or a Coo Palmer or an attacking fullback. I don't
- 23:31Speaker 2: know anything, but I think Chelsea would be very good.
- 23:35Speaker 1: And die as well. He's been in every draft you've had,
- 23:37Speaker 1: asn't he.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yeah, because again I saw a couple of what Everton did.
- 23:42Speaker 2: I think, especially without Gritish, now he would be the
- 23:45Speaker 2: main threat going forwards like he was after Gritish got
- 23:49Speaker 2: injured last season. And if you remember last season, especially
- 23:52Speaker 2: if you don't, can't really have con there was a
- 23:54Speaker 2: time where Gritish was the main focus going forward for
- 23:57Speaker 2: Everton and as soon as he was not there anymore
- 24:00Speaker 2: came NJ and nj I had a really good end
- 24:01Speaker 2: of the season, so I think he would pick up
- 24:04Speaker 2: where he left it with great momentum. He worked really
- 24:06Speaker 2: hard in the in the summer. I think there was
- 24:09Speaker 2: a chance for him to go to a bigger club.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Maybe that didn't happen, or certainly not for now, but
- 24:14Speaker 2: I think Nji could have a really good season.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Sam, you got any thoughts on Jeorge's team? I don't.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I don't love the extra money spent on the goalkeepers
- 24:27Speaker 3: like that just feels like a waste of money because realistically,
- 24:30Speaker 3: unless you planned for a really early World card, you
- 24:32Speaker 3: then stuck spending that extra bit of money on a
- 24:35Speaker 3: on a goalkeeper pairing. Yeah, but that point five gets
- 24:40Speaker 3: you from Morganmagers to en Burmo to start the season.
- 24:43Speaker 3: I can, I think you could then have you could
- 24:45Speaker 3: get you can like, I think there's opportunities where using
- 24:49Speaker 3: point five in the early weeks to target in on
- 24:51Speaker 3: fixtures feels like a sensible thing to do, and then
- 24:54Speaker 3: you can obviously change. I would not be starting the
- 24:56Speaker 3: season without Dominic Calvotleuin either, so again I take the
- 24:59Speaker 3: point five out of the goalies and put it in him.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Okay, Sam runners through your team them.
- 25:06Speaker 3: The pair of pink goalkeepers remain so ver Brigan and Kinski.
- 25:10Speaker 3: They're going to be blocked in now pretty much. I
- 25:12Speaker 3: did have a moment of like, can I make Rayer work?
- 25:16Speaker 3: But I do have to spend the extra money in
- 25:18Speaker 3: order to do that, because the minimum you spend with
- 25:20Speaker 3: Rare obviously then is ten, because you need a four
- 25:22Speaker 3: point zero to go alongside him, whereas these two combined
- 25:24Speaker 3: to nine, and I value the extra one million across.
- 25:27Speaker 1: The rest of the team.
- 25:28Speaker 3: The defense is all over the place, it constantly moves,
- 25:31Speaker 3: so Kalafuri and Van Heck both came in after their
- 25:33Speaker 3: performances at the weekend. I like the idea of the
- 25:36Speaker 3: deaf cons out of Van Heck and Kalafury's attacking threat
- 25:38Speaker 3: just feels like a bit of a no brainer to
- 25:40Speaker 3: start the season. Currently on Joe Rodin would like to
- 25:44Speaker 3: find the extra point five for Maharamovich instead. I really
- 25:48Speaker 3: like him again, deaf confret feels like it's stronger from
- 25:51Speaker 3: him than from Rodin, So I would like to find
- 25:53Speaker 3: that money, but I just don't have it right now.
- 25:55Speaker 3: And then a rotating pair of Thomas and I'm currently
- 25:59Speaker 3: bat with Leif Dave. I don't like he's done that
- 26:02Speaker 3: to me again where he scored some goals in pre
- 26:04Speaker 3: season and I've gone, oh yeah, I remember how.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Much I like you.
- 26:07Speaker 3: You can come in my team. Whether that stays or
- 26:10Speaker 3: whether I go back to New York remains to be seen.
- 26:12Speaker 3: But a couple of four point zeros. The midfield pretty
- 26:15Speaker 3: much remains unchanged, so Brune, Fernande Zembamo, s Bo's, Lie
- 26:18Speaker 3: Sangari and then Salie came in after the weekend, and
- 26:22Speaker 3: then the front three that everybody seems to have apart
- 26:24Speaker 3: from Jews of Jo Pedro Harland and Dominic calvit Lewin.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it does feel very similar that front. I reckon
- 26:30Speaker 1: George is going to end up with Will.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I like Robby scored against Gregne, was outstanding in the
- 26:35Speaker 2: last preseason game that Sunderland had, you.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Know, so own though Dominic calvt Lewin.
- 26:40Speaker 2: I know, I think Robby is twenty or eighteen, so
- 26:44Speaker 2: there's not much difference between the two, I guess. I
- 26:46Speaker 2: think I think both, you know, both are really good
- 26:50Speaker 2: options for the start of the season.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Okay, Jeles, you've got any thoughts on Sam's team? Only
- 26:54Speaker 1: fair flip the question back.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's poor, it's really out of it.
- 26:59Speaker 2: I don't think she worked hard on this really, No,
- 27:02Speaker 2: I was standing and I get the point five difference,
- 27:05Speaker 2: and yeah, it would get me to Enbomo for Rogers,
- 27:07Speaker 2: and I've been tempted, I think, and Bomo is going
- 27:09Speaker 2: to be.
- 27:09Speaker 3: For the first two weeks because my thing, my theory
- 27:12Speaker 3: is I'll have him for two weeks and then I
- 27:13Speaker 3: switched to Morgan Rogers afterwards.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very possible, although Cesco is back training and
- 27:18Speaker 2: then Bomo plays as a nine in preseason because Sesco
- 27:21Speaker 2: was obviously was that with that little injury that he had.
- 27:24Speaker 2: So is the Sesco return changing a little bit where
- 27:28Speaker 2: and Bomo would play. I would rather Mbomo players as
- 27:30Speaker 2: a nine because you would get us obviously, you know,
- 27:32Speaker 2: more points, more goals, et cetera than if he was
- 27:34Speaker 2: playing on the Ryan side, let's say. So, it'd be
- 27:37Speaker 2: interesting to see what Karen does this weekend for the
- 27:40Speaker 2: United game where I held the city. But yeah, that's
- 27:44Speaker 2: I think it's a great thing.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I do. I mean, I've gotten in my mind, But
- 27:48Speaker 1: I do wonder if he's a bit of a am
- 27:49Speaker 1: I being a bit of a sheep. Is he a
- 27:51Speaker 1: bit of a trap? I don't know, I'm not. I
- 27:53Speaker 1: don't think he can be for the first two weeks like.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Thirty three percent owner as well.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and we're talking about the first two weeks right
- 28:00Speaker 3: against hullann Ipswich. I don't see Cesco coming in and
- 28:02Speaker 3: taking all of his minutes straight away. He's not been
- 28:05Speaker 3: He's barely had a pre season. He needs to get
- 28:07Speaker 3: fitness again. Yeah, we might see a bit of rotation
- 28:10Speaker 3: in terms of where he plays on the pitch, but
- 28:12Speaker 3: I think in terms of owning him for two weeks
- 28:14Speaker 3: to start the season against two nearly promoted teams. He
- 28:17Speaker 3: feels pretty good, to be honest, like if you wanted
- 28:19Speaker 3: to hold him for ten weeks. And maybe it's a concern,
- 28:21Speaker 3: but I.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Think I just hate the short term picks. I'm not
- 28:24Speaker 1: very good at that at the beginning of the season.
- 28:26Speaker 1: You're not likely leaving my world clubs and stuff later.
- 28:28Speaker 1: But it just feels strange to me to only pick
- 28:31Speaker 1: for a few weeks. But maybe at the beginning of
- 28:34Speaker 1: the season after a World Cup, et cetera, et cetera,
- 28:36Speaker 1: is the most sensible thing. It does also feel like
- 28:37Speaker 1: there's still a lot of transfer business to be done
- 28:40Speaker 1: a lot of clubs as well. Okay, then this is
- 28:41Speaker 1: my team, and as I said, I've got Azrae Conser
- 28:44Speaker 1: on my bench, but that will change Kinski and Bravca
- 28:48Speaker 1: and my two goalkeepers purely because I can't afford rotating goalkeepers. Sure,
- 28:52Speaker 1: because I can't afford Maguire, Vardi old Califuri. I think
- 28:55Speaker 1: those two usai at least at my midfield. This is
- 28:58Speaker 1: my starting team. By the way, Fernandez was like Solis
- 29:03Speaker 1: and then upfront hasn't changed for weeks. For a few
- 29:06Speaker 1: weeks now, Cavalou and Harland Schuel Pedro, and then on
- 29:09Speaker 1: my bench I've got sangare Conza as I mentioned, and Deop.
- 29:13Speaker 1: So yeah, there is potential that Solis could change, but
- 29:18Speaker 1: I think I think I'll stick with him. I don't
- 29:20Speaker 1: like not having Pascal Gross, although I was quite pleased
- 29:23Speaker 1: when Bryson signed promised because at least it gave me
- 29:25Speaker 1: a reason to get rid of him. And yeah, it's
- 29:26Speaker 1: quite similar to yours, actually, Sam, isn't It's not that
- 29:28Speaker 1: that attack is pretty similar. Yeah, I was just.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Trying to work out what was different. That meant that
- 29:34Speaker 3: you didn't couldn't have the rotating goalkeepers. So we've got
- 29:38Speaker 3: the same front starting seven maybe Vadio. Yeah, because I've
- 29:45Speaker 3: got Van must be the point five from Van heck.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. I'm I just can't quite do
- 29:51Speaker 1: a space of defensive double.
- 29:53Speaker 3: I understand that I'm not sure I can do this
- 29:55Speaker 3: better to double up, yet it feels all kinds of weird.
- 29:59Speaker 3: But yeah, that must be. That must be why I
- 30:01Speaker 3: think we all traditionally like to build a squad. Not
- 30:03Speaker 3: everybody does that. Some people just go, I'm putting all
- 30:06Speaker 3: my money, am I starting eleven and I'm going to
- 30:07Speaker 3: you know, that's just how I'm going to be. I
- 30:10Speaker 3: like the comfort of having a fifteen man squad, but
- 30:12Speaker 3: I also like, and we saw from London last year,
- 30:14Speaker 3: that there's always some really good value in the four
- 30:16Speaker 3: point zero defenders and you're not going to play them
- 30:18Speaker 3: hardly ever anyway, because you're mostly going to play three
- 30:21Speaker 3: four to three. So if you're going to play three
- 30:24Speaker 3: four three most weeks, given the setut that we've all got,
- 30:26Speaker 3: then having the extra point five sitting on your bench
- 30:30Speaker 3: in the defenders. That's why I've got the rotating four
- 30:32Speaker 3: point ohers, just because it makes me feel like I've
- 30:35Speaker 3: got less value just wasting there. And I'm inevitably going
- 30:38Speaker 3: to be on the wrong four point ohs, but at
- 30:40Speaker 3: least it's an easy move when you are card to
- 30:42Speaker 3: get on the right ones.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Did we not change our opinion of defenders though? And like,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I know, we're all starting with three four three, but
- 30:52Speaker 1: it felt like last season with deaf Con we were
- 30:55Speaker 1: playing a back four more. That also is probably in
- 30:57Speaker 1: my thinking because I've always been a player back three
- 31:00Speaker 1: until I think that was more to do with the
- 31:01Speaker 1: forwards though, wasn't it last season as well. The forwards
- 31:04Speaker 1: last year were just not very good and we didn't
- 31:06Speaker 1: have that many of them like you had obviously Harlan
- 31:09Speaker 1: and Joe Pedro and the cowbt Lewin at times was great,
- 31:13Speaker 1: but then and it was like sometimes you had Bow
- 31:16Speaker 1: and sometimes you had Thiago, but nobody seemed to kind
- 31:18Speaker 1: of find that rhythm and we didn't. Weren't getting loads
- 31:20Speaker 1: of points out of them, and the defenders were racking
- 31:22Speaker 1: up more points. So but if you think about the
- 31:24Speaker 1: defenders that wracked up a lot of points last season
- 31:26Speaker 1: in Sunderland's did really really well in the four point
- 31:29Speaker 1: zero brackets, so there wasn't necessarily a reason to have
- 31:32Speaker 1: to spend We didn't have to spend premium budget on defenders.
- 31:35Speaker 1: I think that's kind of what I'm saying, Like we
- 31:37Speaker 1: saw a lot of good value in the fives and
- 31:39Speaker 1: the fours and the four point fives last year, so
- 31:41Speaker 1: I'm hoping we get a replication of that this year too. Okay,
- 31:44Speaker 1: so we're all going with Earling Harland. I don't think
- 31:48Speaker 1: any of us have considered going without him. But can
- 31:50Speaker 1: you understand yours the people that aren't particularly off the
- 31:52Speaker 1: community shield.
- 31:54Speaker 2: So I can see the thinking because he was he
- 31:58Speaker 2: was not great. He had one chance that usually he
- 32:00Speaker 2: would bury and didn't. The fact that he started that game,
- 32:04Speaker 2: considering he had played zero second as much as US
- 32:07Speaker 2: three in pre season before, was a bit stranger. I
- 32:11Speaker 2: thought from Oriska, I know it's a community child. I
- 32:13Speaker 2: know it's a first Well it's either first trophy if
- 32:15Speaker 2: you win it, or it's a glorified preseason game if
- 32:17Speaker 2: you don't win it. But while starting him then, considering
- 32:22Speaker 2: it was clearly very short of match fitness because he
- 32:24Speaker 2: hadn't played a single minute in any matches before, it's
- 32:27Speaker 2: a bit weird. So I think it would get there
- 32:31Speaker 2: obviously because he's earning Holland. But to go back to
- 32:34Speaker 2: the point that Sam made earlier, he's usually very good
- 32:37Speaker 2: in August. He's very sharp in August straight away, this
- 32:40Speaker 2: might be a little bit different. He might need a
- 32:42Speaker 2: couple of games to get to get that sharpness back
- 32:45Speaker 2: in a way and the match fitness that he needs
- 32:48Speaker 2: to score of goals back. So just be very just
- 32:51Speaker 2: just know that that before the community he had not
- 32:53Speaker 2: played a tour in preseason. He'd been training, but I
- 32:56Speaker 2: say he had longer holidays because of the World Cup
- 32:59Speaker 2: and how far Norway went, so that might be a
- 33:02Speaker 2: little bit different. Maybe even maybe for this born Withouth
- 33:05Speaker 2: home game. I deity had you know on Sunday this weekend,
- 33:09Speaker 2: he might not look against great sharp but too sharp.
- 33:11Speaker 2: But I think you have you have to keep him
- 33:13Speaker 2: simply for the ownership, because even if he scores one
- 33:15Speaker 2: goal seventy percent and have him and if you have
- 33:18Speaker 2: a replacement that doesn't score, then you're you're in trouble already.
- 33:22Speaker 2: So keep him, of course, because he's earning Halan, but
- 33:25Speaker 2: maybe just keep in mind that the first couple of
- 33:27Speaker 2: games might not be he's best.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So I just wanted to run through. I
- 33:31Speaker 1: think we've spoken about most of the popular picks, but
- 33:33Speaker 1: just a quick word on s Bosli Sam She He's
- 33:36Speaker 1: stayed in pretty much both of our teams. Would you
- 33:39Speaker 1: say through it? I think he has his name.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I've not taken him out at all during the
- 33:42Speaker 3: whole of season.
- 33:43Speaker 1: He's been in every draft, but that is despite verts
- 33:47Speaker 1: playing in the ten. Have you had any consideration. I
- 33:49Speaker 1: know there's the point five difference, there's.
- 33:52Speaker 3: The point five difference, but to be honest, that's been
- 33:54Speaker 3: less of a concern to me. I can find point
- 33:56Speaker 3: five by taking stuff around and I do like verts
- 33:59Speaker 3: in the ten, and there is definitely a case for
- 34:01Speaker 3: doubling up on Liverpool given the fixtures that they have
- 34:04Speaker 3: in the early week and having both of them, and
- 34:06Speaker 3: I have pondered on that and that is something that
- 34:07Speaker 3: I might look to do after the two weeks of MBEMO.
- 34:11Speaker 3: If we don't see great stuff from Morgan Rodgers in
- 34:13Speaker 3: the opening couple of weeks, then obviously the move to
- 34:15Speaker 3: verts could be on as well. I just like the
- 34:18Speaker 3: fact that Suboslai didn't have a World Cup this summer,
- 34:21Speaker 3: was with the manager throughout all of preseason and obviously
- 34:23Speaker 3: new manager, it's nice to have that opportunity. I think
- 34:27Speaker 3: we'll probably see him in a double pivot and that
- 34:29Speaker 3: might mean we get increased amount of defensive contribution points
- 34:31Speaker 3: from him this season as well as then attacking threat
- 34:34Speaker 3: from set pieces, which we see a lot from Dominic Subodsli.
- 34:37Speaker 3: So whilst he might not be playing in the ten,
- 34:40Speaker 3: that versus really close to Esak and therefore likely to
- 34:44Speaker 3: pick up attacking returns from goals in particular, I do
- 34:49Speaker 3: think we'll see a lot of assists out of subosline.
- 34:51Speaker 3: If you get a lot of assists alongside defensive contribution points,
- 34:55Speaker 3: alongside the goal threat from set pieces, I just like
- 34:58Speaker 3: Subodsliz's route to points a little bit or so I'm
- 35:01Speaker 3: going to start the season with him. If it's a mistake,
- 35:04Speaker 3: then it's a really easy move to go from Sbozsi Toverts.
- 35:07Speaker 3: It's zero point five to find. Or if they both
- 35:09Speaker 3: start well, which is what I'm expecting might happen, then
- 35:13Speaker 3: I might look to double up on them, because doubling
- 35:15Speaker 3: up on them with Esak one of them with Esek
- 35:18Speaker 3: is quite tough because Essec's expensive at nine and it's
- 35:21Speaker 3: going to be hard to find that money. But to
- 35:22Speaker 3: get Vertus of Bossie in the team together is actually
- 35:25Speaker 3: quite easy to do.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Okay, I won't run through every single player that we
- 35:29Speaker 1: could have had that we don't have because we don't
- 35:31Speaker 1: have time. So sorry, if you're listening to them, why
- 35:33Speaker 1: haven't you spoken about sa Meno? I was going to,
- 35:35Speaker 1: but we don't have time. Let's move on to Differential
- 35:37Speaker 1: of the week because we've had a few pods, but
- 35:39Speaker 1: now it's finally time to pick one or reminder A
- 35:42Speaker 1: DEFERENTI differential if you're a new listener, is owned by
- 35:45Speaker 1: less than ten percent. Each week, Sam and Georls pick
- 35:47Speaker 1: out one just for this game week, and then we
- 35:49Speaker 1: tally it up over the course of the season and
- 35:52Speaker 1: see who comes out on top. No prizes at all
- 35:54Speaker 1: at the end of the sea, is there a prize?
- 35:55Speaker 1: Actually know there's not? Is that it's just pride pels.
- 36:03Speaker 1: So it has to be your year. So we're gonna
- 36:05Speaker 1: let you guys first, Jos in the hope that we
- 36:07Speaker 1: can give you a little leg up.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I've got a few options, but I
- 36:12Speaker 2: went for Kaiats, Simon and am andah guy sixty million
- 36:19Speaker 2: down the drain got harvest cause again seventy five millions.
- 36:23Speaker 2: So okay, I know it's a bit expensive, only less
- 36:26Speaker 2: than five percent owned, which is a proper really good differential,
- 36:29Speaker 2: not the ones that are like Sam usually finds at
- 36:31Speaker 2: nine point nine nine nine. Oh, come on, Coventry at home.
- 36:35Speaker 2: He was good in the committee shield with the Goldie
- 36:37Speaker 2: is called, although he was held by Donalduma helping him
- 36:40Speaker 2: massively by being really bad. But I just like Kai
- 36:44Speaker 2: Hats and he's really cool as well, So go for Okay.
- 36:48Speaker 1: He's really cool, not already simple.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Cool, one of the coolest guys in the Premier League.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Sam, So all the talk of Liverpool, I thought i'd
- 36:58Speaker 3: go there. I fancied them to the season where and
- 37:00Speaker 3: Newcastle haven't been in great form during preseason either, But
- 37:05Speaker 3: actually a lot of their players that you would look
- 37:06Speaker 3: to go with, the subs, the Virgil of the x Averts,
- 37:09Speaker 3: they're all over. So I'm going to go with somebody
- 37:11Speaker 3: I'm expecting to play on the left for this one,
- 37:13Speaker 3: but might not be there in a few weeks time,
- 37:15Speaker 3: and that's Cody Gakpo. Let's see what happens with him
- 37:17Speaker 3: and the rest of the transfer window. But I've been
- 37:19Speaker 3: really impressed with him in Liverpool's preseason fixtures, particularly the
- 37:22Speaker 3: one against Como at the weekend. He got a goal
- 37:24Speaker 3: on and assist in that one. He's also got a
- 37:26Speaker 3: really good record against Newcastle in FPL. He's played against
- 37:29Speaker 3: them seven times, scored two goals and got two assists,
- 37:33Speaker 3: and over those fixtures that he's played those seven games,
- 37:35Speaker 3: he's registered twenty nine FL points, which is an average
- 37:38Speaker 3: four point one per match. So I'm expecting him to
- 37:40Speaker 3: do quite well this time around, and then I had
- 37:44Speaker 3: to look back at him and his involvement in Liverpool
- 37:46Speaker 3: last season. So when he was on the pitch last
- 37:49Speaker 3: season during twenty five to twenty six season, he was
- 37:51Speaker 3: directly involved in thirty one percent of Liverpool's chances, so
- 37:55Speaker 3: be that goal threat or creating the chance. But that
- 37:58Speaker 3: was the leading number and the most of any Liverpool
- 38:00Speaker 3: player when they were playing. So I think he could
- 38:03Speaker 3: be a nice differential for the opening couple of weeks.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Whether you would go with him outside of Bodsli Averts,
- 38:09Speaker 3: I'm not sure, but as far as differentials go. At
- 38:11Speaker 3: seven million and owned by just Jaws three point six percent,
- 38:15Speaker 3: so not nine point nine nine nine, he could do well.
- 38:18Speaker 1: We can already. We can see he did more research
- 38:22Speaker 1: on status and everything for their didn't have a song either, Yeah, BUTO.
- 38:28Speaker 2: The singer game.
- 38:29Speaker 1: No captains. This is this is tricky because I think
- 38:33Speaker 1: there's two candidates here to the standouts, isn't there? In
- 38:35Speaker 1: terms of three? Here's your third and I all right
- 38:40Speaker 1: for Pedro Pedro would be the other one.
- 38:45Speaker 3: Yeah. I like jad Pedro because it's Monday night as well.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Jad Pedro against Fulham on Monday Night could be fun.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Carlin's obvious, but I really like Bruno. I would really
- 38:59Speaker 3: like to captain Brewce. I just don't know if I've
- 39:01Speaker 3: got the courage in game we want to do it.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree why Night's on Pedro for me, but
- 39:10Speaker 2: that it can change easily. I think if I would
- 39:13Speaker 2: you go for Harland considering the film that we've saw
- 39:16Speaker 2: in we've seen sorry from him and City at the
- 39:18Speaker 2: Committee Shield based a boarding team with a new manager.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Marco Roso could really go and get spanked at the
- 39:24Speaker 2: Eity High easily, and haland you know, still did well
- 39:27Speaker 2: despite not being fully sharp and fully match fit. So
- 39:30Speaker 2: it's I think it's a tricky one. Usually we're pretty
- 39:32Speaker 2: said for the start of the season, aren't we, and
- 39:34Speaker 2: and this time there's too many options.
- 39:38Speaker 1: None of us want to commit to it. I can
- 39:40Speaker 1: tell I'm just waiting for someone's I'm captain in Harland.
- 39:43Speaker 3: I've been on Bruno for weeks, like literally the last
- 39:45Speaker 3: couple of weeks, and captain's Arman has been sitting on Bruno.
- 39:48Speaker 3: I normally it's captain somebody in a home fixture. So
- 39:52Speaker 3: Bruno's away, Pedro's away, Harland's the obvious choice. From that perspective,
- 39:56Speaker 3: but Harland doesn't have his doesn't have the form in
- 40:01Speaker 3: the same way that the other two do. I am
- 40:05Speaker 3: really I think it's going to come down to the wire.
- 40:07Speaker 3: I think I will make a decision on this really
- 40:09Speaker 3: last minute. So if I'm feeling brave on Friday night,
- 40:13Speaker 3: it will be with Bruno.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Do we just.
- 40:20Speaker 3: That is a really good question because no, Realistically, starting
- 40:25Speaker 3: the season calmly and just having a good start is
- 40:30Speaker 3: the most important thing. So going against the player that
- 40:33Speaker 3: I know is the most he's the most heavily owned
- 40:36Speaker 3: and will be the most captained, is not sensible. That
- 40:40Speaker 3: is not the sensible play. The sensible play is just
- 40:42Speaker 3: to give it to Harlan and forget about it. But
- 40:44Speaker 3: there's a little like the devil on my shoulder just goes,
- 40:47Speaker 3: just give yourself a It could give yourself a head
- 40:50Speaker 3: start by captain and one of the other two if
- 40:52Speaker 3: they do more than Harlan. If Harland had done anything
- 40:55Speaker 3: in the community shield, I think I'd have just sat
- 40:57Speaker 3: here and gone I'm captain.
- 40:58Speaker 1: And yeah agree, Okay, then we'll safe to say we're
- 41:03Speaker 1: as uncertain as ever. It's normally just Jews because I
- 41:06Speaker 1: have a clue and neither of us do. But we've
- 41:08Speaker 1: made a bit of an argument for all of them,
- 41:09Speaker 1: haven't we. Okay then, so it's going to be an
- 41:12Speaker 1: interesting were recording this between eight and nine and Thursday
- 41:14Speaker 1: morning and our usual slot. We've got what thirty six
- 41:17Speaker 1: hours or so or less than that to go into
- 41:19Speaker 1: the deadline. How set would you say?
- 41:21Speaker 3: You are?
- 41:21Speaker 2: Jewels eight, Robbie Cava Lewin, there's maybe something around la
- 41:27Speaker 2: fit to do. Sam has put in my head to
- 41:31Speaker 2: not go for Lamon's and go for Kinski and spend
- 41:33Speaker 2: that point five somewhere. So we'll see. But I think
- 41:36Speaker 2: Joe Pedrol we take up tain just to be different,
- 41:38Speaker 2: and I think Robby in my steaed just to be
- 41:39Speaker 2: different as well, and see how this weekend goes.
- 41:42Speaker 1: We'll see. We'll see.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Sam, how seid to you? It just seems like you've
- 41:45Speaker 3: got a lot of defensive problems. Yeah, I'm locked in
- 41:48Speaker 3: on the goalkeepers. I'm locked in on midfield and forward line.
- 41:51Speaker 3: It is literally just the decisions around the defense. Calafury
- 41:55Speaker 3: and Thomas are definitely there.
- 41:57Speaker 1: It's the other three.
- 41:58Speaker 3: So I just I've basically got three players that I
- 42:00Speaker 3: need to work out what I'm doing with so I'm
- 42:02Speaker 3: nearly I'm nearly.
- 42:03Speaker 1: There, Okay, I don't know if I'm nearly there, I
- 42:06Speaker 1: never know. I think I am probably one or two
- 42:08Speaker 1: players still. Definitely the Asricons are spot and hopefully that
- 42:11Speaker 1: can magically make Luke shaw Hary McGuire now reminds the
- 42:14Speaker 1: Fancy Shell be back as well this week. I've got
- 42:16Speaker 1: praz and As in the studio with me for that one.
- 42:20Speaker 1: That will be available on the Premier League website, app
- 42:22Speaker 1: and various TV channels around the world. There's also plenty
- 42:24Speaker 1: of other really good content on the Premier League website
- 42:27Speaker 1: and app to keep you amused and to help you
- 42:29Speaker 1: out right up until that's six point thirty pm deadline.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And a reminder I should have said earlier in the
- 42:34Speaker 1: pod as well, the Mini League is active once again.
- 42:36Speaker 1: If you do want to play against us, the code
- 42:37Speaker 1: is Q zero HV one cue. Yeah, do join that.
- 42:41Speaker 1: It's always good to have loads of you in there
- 42:43Speaker 1: and we can track your progress and we will highlight
- 42:45Speaker 1: people having good weeks throughout the season. Six thirty don't
- 42:49Speaker 1: forget it. Good luck guys, We'll see you next week.
