- 0:34Speaker 1: out wherever you get your podcasts.
- 0:36Speaker 3: All right.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Yeah, gets bailed.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Anyway, we actually have a stupendous slate of NFL action
- 0:44Speaker 1: this weekend. And thank goodness, Ryan, because if we did not,
- 0:46Speaker 1: this would be a frantic, frantic program.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Correct.
- 0:50Speaker 4: But, you know, thankfully, the NFL, we did not have
- 0:52Speaker 4: a great slate of games yesterday. Last week, excuse me.
- 0:56Speaker 4: But this week it is. Excellent. Also, we got Texas,
- 0:59Speaker 4: Georgia that Saturday as well. Right.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We've got that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: But what we have on top of this that is
- 1:05Speaker 1: better than any of it is A.J.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Brown throwback NFL wide receiver. OK, now.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I actually don't even feel like this is truly throwback
- 1:15Speaker 1: wide receiver behavior because when I think about throwback wide
- 1:17Speaker 1: receiver behavior, I think about people acting bad, like just
- 1:20Speaker 1: being mad that they're not getting the ball and doing
- 1:22Speaker 1: a poor job of articulating perhaps that it's larger than them,
- 1:25Speaker 1: but it always just seemed like it was just about them.
- 1:28Speaker 2: But A.J.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Brown for the last year and a half has been
- 1:31Speaker 1: a little bit miffed that he's not getting the ball.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And by the way, so is Devontae Smith because their
- 1:35Speaker 1: problem doesn't simply appear to be that they're miffed about not.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Getting the ball.
- 1:39Speaker 1: The problem seems to be this offense stinks and everybody
- 1:43Speaker 1: knows it.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Can't you tell, right?
- 1:46Speaker 1: So yeah, you could run for 2000 yards of Saquon
- 1:48Speaker 1: Barkley last year and make everything work. But as is
- 1:50Speaker 1: often the case when a running back takes a bunch
- 1:52Speaker 1: of carries in a year and by the way, or
- 1:54Speaker 1: just gets to the age of Saquon Barkley, you can't
- 1:58Speaker 1: do this again. So in a very not throwback sort
- 2:02Speaker 1: of way, AJ Brown was perfect. on the stream playing
- 2:07Speaker 1: video games with somebody and somebody asked him some questions
- 2:10Speaker 1: about what was going on and what he was saying
- 2:12Speaker 1: with the offense. And he was saying, no, it's not
- 2:15Speaker 1: going good. Is it good enough? You know, all those
- 2:18Speaker 1: kinds of things.
- 2:19Speaker 2: And, you know.
- 2:21Speaker 1: From what I understand about you, people who play video
- 2:24Speaker 1: games to that level, you know, it's easy to like
- 2:27Speaker 1: forget that you're actually being recorded and people.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Can hear you. You know what I mean? You get
- 2:32Speaker 2: yourself just.
- 2:32Speaker 1: A little bit too comfortable and you say a little
- 2:36Speaker 1: bit too much. And I've been in situations where like
- 2:39Speaker 1: you're doing something that's.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Being recorded, but you do it with your friend.
- 2:42Speaker 1: And so you get a little bit too comfortable and
- 2:45Speaker 1: perhaps you say something, not that you didn't mean, but
- 2:49Speaker 1: something that you probably didn't. either didn't intend to say
- 2:52Speaker 1: or it was received in a way differently than you
- 2:55Speaker 1: expected just because you were so comfortable and you were
- 2:58Speaker 1: talking to a friend. And so you think since you're
- 3:00Speaker 1: talking to a friend, the fact that the rest of
- 3:03Speaker 1: the world can hear you goes away. And so your
- 3:05Speaker 1: friend understands your tone. Your friend understands what you mean.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Your friend extends you certain measures of grace if things
- 3:12Speaker 1: might be just a little bit.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Gruff, right?
- 3:15Speaker 1: But the rest of the world is listening and now
- 3:17Speaker 1: the rest of the world has questions. And You typically
- 3:22Speaker 1: have two options under those circumstances. Option one is just
- 3:27Speaker 1: not to say nothing about it. Just typically my choice.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Option two is to kind of be like, ah, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: maybe I got a little bit too comfortable.
- 3:37Speaker 2: That wasn't exactly what I meant. Those are normally the
- 3:42Speaker 2: two options. A.J. Brown went with the rarely used option three.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And option three for him, 10 toes down. Ryan, can
- 3:59Speaker 2: you play what A.J. Brown had to say?
- 4:00Speaker 5: A.J., can you explain the situation with the fact that
- 4:03Speaker 5: you said.
- 4:04Speaker 6: You took it?
- 4:05Speaker 4: It's not just solely.
- 4:06Speaker 3: About my situation.
- 4:07Speaker 7: I mean, guys, like, obviously, I want to win, too,
- 4:09Speaker 7: you know? And I think if we're really focusing on winning,
- 4:14Speaker 7: doing our job, like, we can't just keep slapping the
- 4:16Speaker 7: Band-Aid over the defense during their job. and getting us
- 4:20Speaker 7: out of trouble.
- 4:21Speaker 4: At what point are we going to.
- 4:23Speaker 7: Pick up our slack as an offense that we're so great,
- 4:26Speaker 7: you know? And that's what I'm getting at.
- 4:28Speaker 4: It's not about we're not winning or I don't care
- 4:31Speaker 4: about winning. All I care about is snap and step.
- 4:33Speaker 5: No.
- 4:34Speaker 4: It's been week after week sometimes.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We're not contributing. We're not doing our job on offense.
- 4:39Speaker 2: So you can't just keep slapping.
- 4:40Speaker 4: The Band-Aid over it.
- 4:41Speaker 2: You expect to win later in the year.
- 4:42Speaker 7: You don't think you're going to go to it at
- 4:44Speaker 7: the end of the year.
- 4:44Speaker 2: It's not going to fucking happen. It's not going to happen.
- 4:46Speaker 2: It's not going to happen.
- 4:48Speaker 6: You know?
- 4:48Speaker 8: Last year.
- 4:49Speaker 4: what it was.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Thank you for the ring but it's a new season
- 4:52Speaker 7: they adapted we have to adapt and we have to
- 4:54Speaker 7: continue to like get better and try to find new
- 4:56Speaker 7: ways so that's that's where the frustration comes in because
- 4:59Speaker 7: it's not about winning you guys like i want to
- 5:02Speaker 7: win yes and help contribute as well do our thing
- 5:05Speaker 7: on offense as well that's i think.
- 5:07Speaker 4: That's fair.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Right what was that in his.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Locker um it was a receipt that said jesus paid
- 5:15Speaker 4: it all oh.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Got to worry about a guy like that.
- 5:20Speaker 1: This dude in Dallas wants to sue Deion Sanders because
- 5:23Speaker 1: Deion took his car in to get fixed. When Buddy
- 5:25Speaker 1: asked for the money, Deion told him that Jesus told
- 5:28Speaker 1: him that he didn't have to pay.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Yeah, this is the truth.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I'm not making this up for you people who think
- 5:33Speaker 2: I'd be hating on Dion. That actually happened. So he
- 5:35Speaker 2: said Jesus paid the receipt. Now, OK, you you still
- 5:39Speaker 2: have to pay things to just just in case that
- 5:43Speaker 2: comes up. But you know what I find interesting about
- 5:45Speaker 2: this with A.J. Brown is that like it.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Sounds like he's pushing back on all this millennial zoomer positivity.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Right.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Somebody keeps saying everything is OK.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Like I used to work this one job. where every
- 5:57Speaker 1: day we would come off and somebody would tell us
- 5:59Speaker 1: what a great day we had. And I was like,
- 6:00Speaker 1: there's no way we had a great day every day.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Right. It's not possible. You're lying. This is useless. Like
- 6:06Speaker 2: this is actually becoming counterproductive.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Not every single show is a great show.
- 6:08Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Like this is becoming counterproductive if this is the feeling
- 6:12Speaker 1: that you have about this.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Is Sirianni one of those guys? Like, is that what
- 6:16Speaker 2: it is?
- 6:17Speaker 1: But the tone that he's taking implies, guys, stop lying
- 6:22Speaker 1: to me.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I know what time it is. This ain't it.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yeah. Last game, he had two catches for 13 yards
- 6:30Speaker 4: in the first half and had less in the second half.
- 6:34Speaker 4: He had less targets.
- 6:35Speaker 8: Yes.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And I mean, look, man, I was watching some TV
- 6:40Speaker 1: and they made a very good point that Nick Sirianni
- 6:42Speaker 1: didn't get enough trouble. for what a disaster it looked
- 6:44Speaker 1: like that team was going to be early in 2024,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and for riding the ship and getting everything okay.
- 6:51Speaker 6: Right?
- 6:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 6:51Speaker 4: They were 2-2. He's screaming at fans in Cleveland.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Correct.
- 6:55Speaker 6: Correct.
- 6:55Speaker 4: And shows up with a shaved head. Correct.
- 6:58Speaker 2: It didn't. But did he fix stuff, or did they
- 7:01Speaker 2: just start winning?
- 7:03Speaker 6: Right.
- 7:03Speaker 2: You know?
- 7:04Speaker 1: And so the point is, where A.J. Brown's talking about
- 7:06Speaker 1: we can't just keep throwing the Band-Aid over it. In
- 7:10Speaker 1: a way, winning is the Band-Aid, right? It's just like, hey,
- 7:13Speaker 1: it doesn't matter as long as we're winning. That's a
- 7:18Speaker 1: tricky situation. But now they're going to play this game
- 7:20Speaker 1: on Sunday night against America's team, the Detroit Lions. And
- 7:24Speaker 1: I do believe that they have to go to Detroit
- 7:27Speaker 1: to play this game. And look, this is two teams. Oh,
- 7:32Speaker 1: so no, they're going to get this game at home.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Okay. Okay.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So, Ryan, what I was about to say, I have
- 7:38Speaker 1: to take off the table, but now it makes for
- 7:39Speaker 1: what I think is perhaps a more interesting set of points.
- 7:42Speaker 4: What you got?
- 7:43Speaker 2: OK, so my thought was, hey, you got to go
- 7:45Speaker 2: play on the road.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It's going to be loud in there. That could be
- 7:48Speaker 1: extra tricky. Counterpoint on this is you get the game
- 7:51Speaker 1: at home.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Where it might be louder and trickier.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Here we go. Like if this offense does not get going. Hey, man,
- 7:59Speaker 1: Eagles fans know he's right. Right. That's a fan base
- 8:03Speaker 1: that's not falling for the just because we're winning. Certainly
- 8:06Speaker 1: happier for winning, but they're not falling for that. If
- 8:08Speaker 1: that offense comes out there looking sluggish, it's going to
- 8:12Speaker 1: be a thing.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I actually need to take.
- 8:14Speaker 1: A greater survey of Eagles fans to see do they
- 8:16Speaker 1: love A.J. Brown for this or hate A.J. Brown for
- 8:18Speaker 1: this because if I was an Eagles fan, he would
- 8:20Speaker 1: become my favorite player. He's my favorite player right now
- 8:23Speaker 1: and I root for the Lions.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Right. I appreciate anyone who is that Consistently honest. Say
- 8:33Speaker 4: what you want about Adrian. Man stays on message. Yes.
- 8:35Speaker 4: He wants the ball and he wants the offense to
- 8:37Speaker 4: be better. And he's clearly right.
- 8:41Speaker 2: And he hasn't said anything rude.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Right? Like, he hasn't come... He hasn't taken all.
- 8:45Speaker 4: It's not personal. It's not... He's not like... Remember when
- 8:50Speaker 4: Micah Parsons said on his pod, he listed the top
- 8:52Speaker 4: five quarterbacks and.
- 8:53Speaker 2: He did list Prescott.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Yeah. Like, he's never saying... anyone's not doing a good job,
- 8:58Speaker 4: he's saying we're not doing a good job.
- 9:00Speaker 6: Yes.
- 9:01Speaker 4: He is saying we're not doing a good enough job
- 9:03Speaker 4: getting me the ball.
- 9:05Speaker 8: Yes.
- 9:05Speaker 4: But he's not saying certain people aren't doing enough.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Well, the other part is they are not doing a
- 9:11Speaker 1: good enough job of getting him the ball.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't think that's in dispute.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Everybody agrees with everything that he's saying, and I'm just
- 9:19Speaker 1: trying to figure out what the head coach is doing.
- 9:21Speaker 2: If that's how he feels.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Of course, the way this season is gone, that means
- 9:26Speaker 1: that the Eagles are going to win this game but
- 9:28Speaker 1: not cover the spread, and the spread is two and
- 9:30Speaker 1: a half, and their record is just going to keep
- 9:32Speaker 1: getting better. Is it going to be like it was
- 9:34Speaker 1: with the Chiefs last year, where we wound up in
- 9:37Speaker 1: this very similar situation?
- 9:40Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:40Speaker 4: I mean, like, but the Chiefs last year, they didn't
- 9:44Speaker 4: seem as frustrated. Like, there was no one sounding the alarms.
- 9:50Speaker 4: And maybe that's just Philadelphia, right? That's just kind of
- 9:52Speaker 4: the culture of the place.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Well, I think it's two years in a row it is, Schaefer.
- 9:56Speaker 4: That's true, yeah.
- 9:57Speaker 1: As it relates to him, I think, or maybe the
- 9:59Speaker 1: Chiefs have. greater track record there, or maybe AJ Brown
- 10:02Speaker 1: just go harder.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Right. Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Maybe, maybe he is just more of a perfectionist.
- 10:06Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Maybe he insists a little bit more, but the other
- 10:10Speaker 1: thing with the Eagles is this, they're not playing for
- 10:12Speaker 1: the division, man.
- 10:12Speaker 2: They're going to win that.
- 10:13Speaker 1: They're surrounded by bums in that division. Um, They are, however,
- 10:19Speaker 1: low key. And I don't think we're talking about this
- 10:21Speaker 1: part nearly enough. They are absolutely playing for the number
- 10:25Speaker 1: one seed in that conference because everybody else is going
- 10:28Speaker 1: to beat up on each other in the division by
- 10:30Speaker 1: and large, except for Tampa Bay.
- 10:31Speaker 2: But I just don't think they're that good. But there
- 10:34Speaker 2: look to.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Be perhaps four good teams in the north. There appear
- 10:37Speaker 1: to be three good teams.
- 10:39Speaker 2: In the west.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Right.
- 10:40Speaker 1: So they're all going to pound each other. And the
- 10:43Speaker 1: Eagles get to play a season with two games. against
- 10:47Speaker 1: the Cowboys, Commanders, and Giants.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Make a wish.
- 10:52Speaker 6: They do.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Oh, my God, the Commanders.
- 10:54Speaker 4: The Commanders.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Hey, man, the Commanders and the Cowboys play on Christmas,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and the name of that game should be The Spirit
- 11:03Speaker 1: of Giving. Like the, it is amazing how bad the
- 11:08Speaker 1: commander's defense is. So, you know, my man, Dan Campbell
- 11:10Speaker 1: took over play calling for the lions. He said he
- 11:13Speaker 1: wanted to, he wanted to show John Morton the way
- 11:16Speaker 1: he wanted a game to be called, which I think
- 11:18Speaker 1: is a fair thing to do here.
- 11:21Speaker 6: Right.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I also think Dan Campbell every now and then needs
- 11:23Speaker 1: to remind people that it's a brain up here.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Some people like to drive the car. They don't have
- 11:28Speaker 4: to drive. Some people don't have to, they don't have
- 11:29Speaker 4: to drive every day, but some people, you know, they
- 11:31Speaker 4: like to show they still got it.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But he also has to get tired of people thinking
- 11:34Speaker 1: that he's not a thinker. And this is his opportunity
- 11:37Speaker 1: to do so.
- 11:37Speaker 2: But anyway, a.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Friend of the program, I don't know if that person
- 11:42Speaker 1: has said this in public, so I want to be
- 11:44Speaker 1: careful putting their name on it. But they're like, nah,
- 11:46Speaker 1: I see through what Dan did. And that actually, no,
- 11:50Speaker 1: it was Mina. And she did send it on social.
- 11:52Speaker 1: She saw through what Dan Campbell did.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Oh, he picked up the Madden sticks, but he played
- 11:58Speaker 4: it on Rookie?
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yes, he did. That is exactly.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But however, to be fair to Dan Campbell, If you
- 12:05Speaker 1: want to show how you want it to be done.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Correct.
- 12:07Speaker 2: This is the best way to go about showing how
- 12:10Speaker 2: you want it to be done. Like, did he do
- 12:12Speaker 2: it to show everybody how good he was?
- 12:15Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 12:16Speaker 1: But if it was intended to be instructional, that was
- 12:18Speaker 1: the perfect time. Anyway, they're going to play against each other,
- 12:21Speaker 1: the Cowboys and the Commanders on Christmas.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And it's just going to look. Russell Wilson looked like
- 12:28Speaker 2: Russell Wilson. Against the Cowboys.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Also, that might be Marcus Mariota versus Joe Milton.
- 12:37Speaker 1: And it'll look like Joe Montana versus Dan Marino. It's
- 12:43Speaker 1: just going to be up and down, up and down.
- 12:47Speaker 1: That's what it's going to be. But this is a
- 12:50Speaker 1: great week of football, man. We got the Seahawks and
- 12:53Speaker 1: the Rams who might be, honest to God, the best
- 12:56Speaker 1: two teams in the NFC.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Some might argue the best two teams.
- 13:00Speaker 1: In the league, the Bears, who've got this thing rolling,
- 13:03Speaker 1: but Caleb Williams against Brian Flores, hey, hey, hey, that could,
- 13:08Speaker 1: you know, that could get ugly fast. The Bills, are
- 13:11Speaker 1: the Bills any must-win against Tampa Bay?
- 13:16Speaker 4: That's a great... white loyalty quarterback game between Josh Allen
- 13:21Speaker 4: and Baker Mayfield.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, there's going to be a lot of people unsure
- 13:24Speaker 1: of exactly who it is that they should be rooting
- 13:27Speaker 1: for or against in the course of this. But with
- 13:29Speaker 1: the Patriots being an actual factual football team and they
- 13:33Speaker 1: get to play the Jets on Thursday night at home,
- 13:36Speaker 1: so I presume they are going to be 9-2 going
- 13:39Speaker 1: into that game. If the Bills go down to 6-4,
- 13:42Speaker 1: they're playing the playoffs on the road. They're going to
- 13:46Speaker 1: have to go into other people's houses. And they've stacked
- 13:48Speaker 1: up a really good playoff record by feasting in large
- 13:52Speaker 1: part on the expansion of the playoffs to seven teams
- 13:54Speaker 1: because they are getting home games often against a team
- 13:57Speaker 1: that had no business being in the playoffs. And I
- 14:00Speaker 1: will throw this out here. And we've kind of lost
- 14:02Speaker 1: track of this. If the Bills really come up disappointing
- 14:06Speaker 1: this year, right? Let's say the Bills are a wildcard team.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Let's say the Bills lose in the first round. Ryan,
- 14:16Speaker 1: Sean McDermott's getting fired, right?
- 14:17Speaker 4: Getting him out of there.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Like, I think we forgot about the story.
- 14:22Speaker 4: The story.
- 14:23Speaker 2: The thorough, thorough.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Well-reported.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Thorough reporting.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Never disputed.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:29Speaker 1: The Tyler Duds run up and down. And I say
- 14:31Speaker 1: this every time I talk about him. His newsletter is
- 14:33Speaker 1: a magazine, man.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Like it's, it's legit.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Like it's legitimately stunning that it's, it's, it ain't just,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I put some stuff.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Out here on Substack.
- 14:40Speaker 6: Right.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:41Speaker 1: But he ran through it with McDermott and a, I
- 14:44Speaker 1: thought a reason case for why he was what held
- 14:46Speaker 1: Buffalo back. Now I think what holds Buffalo back as
- 14:49Speaker 1: much as anything else is Josh Allen's just being as
- 14:51Speaker 1: he's Atlas, right? He just got the world on his shoulders.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But if they don't get it done, he's been there
- 14:57Speaker 1: a long time. My buddy, Nick makes the point. I
- 14:59Speaker 1: think that no quarterback and coach have been together for
- 15:02Speaker 1: this long ever without going to a Super Bowl.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Right. And usually you go, I think if you don't,
- 15:08Speaker 4: the sad is if you don't win in the first
- 15:10Speaker 4: five years.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Yes.
- 15:11Speaker 4: With your coach and your quarterback together, you're not, you don't.
- 15:14Speaker 2: McDermott's had this job for eight years. This is year nine. Right.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Like it's easy to lose sight of that. Now look,
- 15:22Speaker 2: it's the.
- 15:23Speaker 1: 20 years prior to this were much different, right? They
- 15:27Speaker 1: missed the playoffs 19 years in a row. OK, it's
- 15:31Speaker 1: been an uptick, but if they lose this game, they've
- 15:35Speaker 1: got giant problems. I think if this goes, we got
- 15:40Speaker 1: any more like I feel like we got 49ers Cardinals
- 15:43Speaker 1: 49ers might lose that game, by the way. Ravens Browns,
- 15:47Speaker 1: the Browns do sneak up on people every now and then. Oh,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I forgot Chiefs Broncos. And where are those Broncos fans now?
- 15:54Speaker 5: Right.
- 15:55Speaker 2: When it comes to Bo Nix.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Give me interesting to say.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yeah, because I don't know if you.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Saw this, but apparently Colin Coward has said publicly that
- 16:02Speaker 1: don't be surprised if Peyton wants to move on from
- 16:05Speaker 1: Bo Nix and Colin and Peyton are cool.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:09Speaker 2: But isn't this just year two for Bo Nix?
- 16:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, but if you didn't... I mean, you
- 16:14Speaker 4: also played eight years in college.
- 16:16Speaker 2: He did.
- 16:18Speaker 1: How you feel about Bo Nix and his potential really
- 16:21Speaker 1: has a lot to do with how much college football
- 16:23Speaker 1: you watch.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Correct.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Like overall.
- 16:24Speaker 4: And what point you watched it.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Correct.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Because if all you got was the Oregon, even Oregon
- 16:29Speaker 1: was a pretty clear fake out. But if you saw
- 16:31Speaker 1: Auburn Bo Nix, he's supposed to be a college quarterback.
- 16:34Speaker 1: You know what he's supposed to be like?
- 16:35Speaker 2: Major Applewhite?
- 16:37Speaker 3: No, no.
- 16:37Speaker 2: More like Chad Kelly.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Got it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Major Applewhite, very similar in the sense that a college
- 16:42Speaker 1: quarterback that we remember and talk about.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But Bo Nix was an experience. Chad Kelly was an experience, right?
- 16:50Speaker 4: Where it's like, Oh, there's no, Steven Garcia was an experience.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Jordan Jefferson was an experience, right? That's the, how did
- 16:59Speaker 2: he get taken in the top 15 of the draft?
- 17:02Speaker 6: Right.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Like I remember Bo Nix in Auburn and seeing him.
- 17:05Speaker 4: I was like, wow, he's going to be really good
- 17:08Speaker 4: at radio or someone's quarterback coach by this point. The
- 17:14Speaker 4: idea that he would be an actual factual NFL starter
- 17:17Speaker 4: and then an actual factual NFL first round pick. I
- 17:20Speaker 4: never considered.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Like he couldn't even be selling cars. He should be
- 17:23Speaker 1: selling ATVs. Something, something a little bit more exciting. Right.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Like something, something that gets your blood pressure up just
- 17:31Speaker 1: a little bit, but they're.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Eight and two.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Somehow, some way.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Now, if the chiefs, this is a road game and
- 17:37Speaker 1: it's a division. So like thought it was possibly better. Oh,
- 17:40Speaker 1: if the chiefs lose this game, now I do think
- 17:42Speaker 1: they are in trouble.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Cause you got to come back and you got to
- 17:45Speaker 1: win the games to get up there. Right.
- 17:47Speaker 2: They are, they, they are right now.
- 17:50Speaker 1: On the outside looking again, which is something that none
- 17:52Speaker 1: of us really take seriously.
- 17:55Speaker 6: Right.
- 17:55Speaker 1: But one more loss, you kind of need to win
- 17:58Speaker 1: this game. So it's going to be a dope week.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Let's see how it goes. What if you could consistently
- 18:05Speaker 1: find whatever it is you're looking for right away? We're

- 19:08Speaker 2: All right, NBA. I fired up the league pass on
- 19:13Speaker 2: Wednesday night, watching some basketball.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I was watching the Warriors and the Spurs, and we
- 19:20Speaker 1: had talked about how things were getting a little dicey
- 19:22Speaker 1: for the Warriors. right I don't know how much of
- 19:25Speaker 1: that game that you got to see uh the Warriors
- 19:28Speaker 1: won the game because it was a Jimmy and Steph
- 19:31Speaker 1: run shit kind of game where Steph Curry had what
- 19:34Speaker 1: is it 46 points I want to say in that
- 19:35Speaker 1: game but there were long stretches of him off the
- 19:38Speaker 1: floor and Jimmy doing that Jimmy thing where I just
- 19:41Speaker 1: carry everything this is immediately after you know the the
- 19:45Speaker 1: heat on what exactly does Jimmy do We're starting to
- 19:47Speaker 1: come up.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:49Speaker 2: And it was like, no, you can have long stretches
- 19:50Speaker 2: for stuff. Doesn't play.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Cause if nothing else, whether it goes exactly how you
- 19:54Speaker 1: want or not, this guy is going to do that.
- 19:57Speaker 4: He's got it. Whether or not it goes well as
- 19:59Speaker 4: to be seen, but he is certainly a, yeah. Let
- 20:01Speaker 4: me even talk about someone sneaky, old.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Sneaky, old, him, Draymond, um, Steph, um, Yeah, they're sneaky old.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Speaking of sneaky old Draymond, Draymond was out there trying
- 20:14Speaker 1: to guard Victor. First of all, I don't know how much,
- 20:16Speaker 1: like the Victor highlights are one thing. You got to
- 20:19Speaker 1: watch the whole game, man. Like he's the only guy
- 20:23Speaker 1: I've ever seen that can guard. So if it's two
- 20:25Speaker 1: on one break, right? You're at once trying to guard
- 20:28Speaker 1: the ball in the basket and you're trying to stop
- 20:31Speaker 1: before you have to commit to one or the other
- 20:34Speaker 1: on defense.
- 20:35Speaker 2: He can guard both.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Correct.
- 20:37Speaker 2: All the time.
- 20:38Speaker 4: He blocked a three-pointer with his foot in the paint.
- 20:42Speaker 2: He did. He did.
- 20:44Speaker 1: And by the way, I love that it was Draymond
- 20:45Speaker 1: Green that even tried. Because Jimmy Butler looked like me
- 20:48Speaker 1: playing against my brother when I was growing up. And understand,
- 20:51Speaker 1: my brother's 13 years older than me.
- 20:54Speaker 9: So it was probably a similar height difference. Yeah, he's not.
- 20:57Speaker 9: Jimmy Butler's 6'8. He's not putting this up like anywhere
- 21:02Speaker 9: near him. Get into the basket, dribble it right back out.
- 21:06Speaker 9: We're not doing this. Draymond's trying to guard him. Ryan,
- 21:09Speaker 9: he's dream shaking and shooting lefty hooks in the paint.
- 21:13Speaker 2: He didn't make it. But the fact that that was
- 21:15Speaker 2: even on the board, like how smoothly he's getting these
- 21:19Speaker 2: shots up at these. I don't know who's supposed to
- 21:21Speaker 2: guard him. The Spurs.
- 21:23Speaker 1: The Spurs are going to be a top three seed,
- 21:25Speaker 1: I think, in the West. I don't know how far
- 21:27Speaker 1: they're going to go because they are so young. And
- 21:30Speaker 1: shout out to that dude, Cisco. We talked about that
- 21:32Speaker 1: the other day. He's finally gotten his ass in line. And,
- 21:36Speaker 1: you know, somebody had to grab the back of his
- 21:38Speaker 1: neck to make them listen to them.
- 21:40Speaker 2: And he finally has chilled out with his behavior.
- 21:43Speaker 4: And he got a lot of guards. It's a lot
- 21:45Speaker 4: of Fox, Harper, and Castle.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Well, that's the other part, too, is they was running
- 21:49Speaker 2: Cisco at the point.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Greg Hopovich is a great coach. I do not think
- 21:53Speaker 1: they did a great job down the stretch there. This dude, Mitch,
- 21:57Speaker 1: the new coach, they seem to be playing better ball
- 22:01Speaker 1: in this regard. But the Warriors still came in and
- 22:05Speaker 1: got that. Like, we're going to see what ultimately happens
- 22:08Speaker 1: with them. But it seems pretty clear up through this
- 22:11Speaker 1: point in the NBA season. To me, the West, Oklahoma
- 22:16Speaker 1: City and Denver. By the way, Jokic put up.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I'm sorry. The guy that ain't no better than Drew.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Holiday put up an easy 55 on the Clippers.
- 22:30Speaker 2: An easy 55.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Ryan, I need to chill because I'm feeling like white
- 22:34Speaker 1: folks now where I ain't never going to let you
- 22:36Speaker 1: forget that you did that one thing ever wrong ever
- 22:39Speaker 1: in your life. No sirree, Bob. How dare you disrespect
- 22:42Speaker 1: this Caucasian hero? But on the real, how dare he?
- 22:46Speaker 4: People are going to start having some pretty crazy conversations
- 22:49Speaker 4: about Jokic if he wins another MVP. There's going to
- 22:53Speaker 4: start being Yogurt LeBron stuff. I'm just saying.
- 23:01Speaker 2: But here's where it becomes tricky.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Right.
- 23:04Speaker 2: The question becomes, why not?
- 23:08Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm not saying it's unfounded.
- 23:10Speaker 5: Yeah, now, a.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Championship would help.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Now, what's going to be interesting and I think helpful
- 23:14Speaker 1: for LeBron in terms of historical legacy is putting up
- 23:18Speaker 1: four championships the way that he did, the way that
- 23:20Speaker 1: Steph did.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I think that's going to be a lot harder now.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Almost impossible.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Yeah, the era of runs of championships. So you think
- 23:27Speaker 1: about it, for example, the 1980s, three teams won championships
- 23:32Speaker 1: in the 1980s. I mean, the Lakers, the Celtics... The
- 23:36Speaker 1: Pistons and the Sixers, right.
- 23:37Speaker 2: It was four. But you got to.
- 23:41Speaker 1: A point where the Lakers won two in a row.
- 23:43Speaker 1: The Pistons won two in a row. The Bulls won
- 23:46Speaker 1: three in a row. The Rockets won two in a row.
- 23:48Speaker 1: The Bulls won three in a row. The Spurs won one.
- 23:51Speaker 1: The Lakers won three. The Spurs won one. But you
- 23:55Speaker 1: see how this run goes.
- 23:58Speaker 4: The Bulls won six in eight years. The Lakers won
- 24:00Speaker 4: like five in 11 or something like that.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was these long stretches with LeBron in
- 24:05Speaker 1: the heat and LeBron making the finals eight straight years,
- 24:08Speaker 1: for example. I don't think that's going to be something
- 24:11Speaker 1: that you could do. The 1970s were similar to this
- 24:13Speaker 1: where you did not have repeat champions. The Celtics won
- 24:16Speaker 1: two in the decade. The Knicks won two. Then otherwise,
- 24:19Speaker 1: you just got a lot of mixing and matching that's
- 24:21Speaker 1: going on. But Especially as the advanced numbers become a
- 24:25Speaker 1: bigger thing and the fact that I don't think Jokic
- 24:27Speaker 1: is going to play 23 years, but I think he
- 24:29Speaker 1: has a game that's going to be conducive to a
- 24:31Speaker 1: similar level of longevity to what LeBron's game was. Yeah,
- 24:37Speaker 1: if Jokic wins another MVP, those discussions are going to
- 24:40Speaker 1: come up.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Or how about this, Ryan?
- 24:42Speaker 1: Does it become a Jokic-Curry kind of discussion? Does it
- 24:47Speaker 1: become about an individual in that? Or is it just
- 24:49Speaker 1: about putting him in that space?
- 24:51Speaker 4: In that class.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Because the regular season results make it unequivocal that he
- 24:55Speaker 1: is of that level.
- 24:57Speaker 5: Right.
- 24:57Speaker 4: I mean, you're getting the four MVPs, which he's certainly
- 25:01Speaker 4: got to be one of the favorites for. It'll be him, Luka,
- 25:04Speaker 4: and Victor.
- 25:05Speaker 6: Yes.
- 25:05Speaker 4: And SGA probably running that as the four leading candidates.
- 25:10Speaker 5: Yes.
- 25:11Speaker 4: And people are going to start looking back at the
- 25:13Speaker 4: Joel Embiid MVP like the Steve Nash MVPs.
- 25:17Speaker 10: It is.
- 25:18Speaker 2: I mean, I do that. The Derrick Rose MVP is
- 25:24Speaker 2: not the exact same.
- 25:25Speaker 4: But it's in the same conversation.
- 25:27Speaker 5: You know what?
- 25:27Speaker 1: The Derrick Rose MVP, the more I think about it,
- 25:30Speaker 1: is kind of in the same lane as the Charles
- 25:31Speaker 1: Barkley MVP, which is.
- 25:34Speaker 2: A legitimate MVP, right?
- 25:38Speaker 1: But yeah, no, this is, by the way, I watched
- 25:41Speaker 1: the Thunders slap the taste out of the Lakers' mouths
- 25:44Speaker 1: on Wednesday night.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Jalen Williams isn't even playing, man.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Like, this is the thing about them. There's no reason
- 25:51Speaker 1: to believe that they've even come close to peaking as
- 25:53Speaker 1: to what they could be because the whole team is
- 25:55Speaker 1: 17 years old.
- 25:58Speaker 4: And if the season ended right now, they'd have two
- 26:00Speaker 4: top 10 picks.
- 26:01Speaker 2: And they have a zillion. What are you even supposed
- 26:05Speaker 2: to do? Like, if you're Presti, what are we supposed
- 26:08Speaker 2: to do with this team? We've got these picks. What
- 26:11Speaker 2: do I do?
- 26:12Speaker 1: Trade them and try to get Giannis? They have enough
- 26:16Speaker 1: stuff to get Giannis in and not really hurt. They
- 26:19Speaker 1: got a bunch of picks they don't really need.
- 26:21Speaker 4: They can trade for Giannis and not give up Chet, Jalen,
- 26:25Speaker 4: or SGA. I mean, obviously, you get into the cap
- 26:27Speaker 4: and the hard cap and all that stuff. Maybe not
- 26:30Speaker 4: the salaries, but before the second apron era of the NBA,
- 26:33Speaker 4: they have enough They could probably make the best offer.
- 26:37Speaker 4: It's them or Houston.
- 26:38Speaker 2: There's nothing that they can't do.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Like I don't, this, and I know we say this
- 26:45Speaker 1: just about every time a team wins a championship, but
- 26:47Speaker 1: I don't think we've ever had a championship team this
- 26:48Speaker 1: young where everybody just feels this young. There's another wave
- 26:53Speaker 1: of guys that's on the way.
- 26:55Speaker 2: To come up.
- 26:55Speaker 1: I don't, it's going to be tough for everybody. And
- 27:00Speaker 1: the Spurs, like I said, I think the Spurs are
- 27:02Speaker 1: going to be up there by the end of the year,
- 27:04Speaker 1: just because they look, they look really talented, man. They
- 27:07Speaker 1: got guards. They've got this, whatever you want to call them.
- 27:11Speaker 1: They're going to be up there. I watched some of
- 27:13Speaker 1: the Pistons last night, but then I found out that
- 27:16Speaker 1: they good players like Cade wasn't playing.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Just like, and I ain't really getting into this.
- 27:21Speaker 1: The East looks, the East looks like a bunch of
- 27:25Speaker 1: teams that should be very happy to get to the finals.
- 27:29Speaker 1: But with that in mind, the best story this year
- 27:33Speaker 1: to me, and I mean best in terms of it's
- 27:35Speaker 1: somewhat entertaining and I think it's actually kind of fascinating
- 27:38Speaker 1: as a topic of discussion is whatever is going on
- 27:41Speaker 1: with Memphis where John Morant is clearly done with this.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Clearly.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I said, and you could go look at it, I'm
- 27:52Speaker 1: sure we put out short videos of it and people
- 27:54Speaker 1: said I was crazy, but I said when they made
- 27:57Speaker 1: that move and they traded Desmond Bain to the Magic,
- 28:02Speaker 1: that the next play is to trade John Morant. Because
- 28:07Speaker 1: it's not so much that they traded Bain, it's that
- 28:09Speaker 1: they traded Bain for a bunch of picks, which means
- 28:13Speaker 1: that you made a trade that was not intended to
- 28:15Speaker 1: make your team better in the short run. And if
- 28:17Speaker 1: you're making trades with a player of the stature of
- 28:22Speaker 1: John Morant, and you also have Jaron Jackson, and you're
- 28:25Speaker 1: not trying to get better, then... Are you tearing this down?
- 28:29Speaker 1: That's the kind of move that you make when you're
- 28:31Speaker 1: about to tear a team down. Let me tell you
- 28:33Speaker 1: something about Jaron Jackson that I did not fully realize.
- 28:37Speaker 1: It's one of those things that is obvious when you
- 28:39Speaker 1: watch his game, but until you look at the numbers,
- 28:42Speaker 1: you don't really realize this. And I just don't understand
- 28:45Speaker 1: how this is possible. Jaron Jackson, for those of you
- 28:49Speaker 1: who are unfamiliar, is listed at 6'10. He has never
- 28:55Speaker 1: averaged seven rebounds a game and has only had one
- 28:58Speaker 1: season averaging six rebounds a game. Ryan, how is that possible?
- 29:02Speaker 4: That is a, I hate to be this person, but
- 29:04Speaker 4: that's a, we used to be a proper country. It is.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I don't see how this is possible.
- 29:09Speaker 6: Right.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I don't.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:10Speaker 2: But John doesn't like what the team is doing.
- 29:15Speaker 1: It's fair to ask physically how much John Morant has left.
- 29:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 29:20Speaker 2: And he's clearly not trying very hard.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Which him not trying very hard jumps out, especially because
- 29:29Speaker 1: of what the strategy is that they're doing. So the
- 29:32Speaker 1: Grizzlies got this new coach. Let me read this off
- 29:34Speaker 1: the page. because I ain't heard nobody say his name,
- 29:36Speaker 1: but his name seems to be Thomas Isalo.
- 29:40Speaker 2: He from Europe. I know he worked over there in Finland.
- 29:44Speaker 1: He's got this idea of how he wants to play,
- 29:47Speaker 1: where he wants to have guys out there and play
- 29:51Speaker 1: as hard as they can, three or four minutes at
- 29:56Speaker 1: a time. And then kind of run line shifts to
- 30:00Speaker 1: get the guys out of there. Which, like to me,
- 30:04Speaker 1: if you're going to do that, you might as well
- 30:05Speaker 1: be running like 40 minutes of hell full court press.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Like that feels like very much a college approach.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Apparently there were some tough times with it in Europe
- 30:15Speaker 1: when he did it, but it ultimately worked. It is
- 30:18Speaker 1: counter to the conventional wisdom of NBA basketball. which is
- 30:22Speaker 1: to keep your best players on the floor as much
- 30:23Speaker 1: as you possibly can. He would not be the first
- 30:26Speaker 1: coach to try to play like 10 guys as your rotation.
- 30:32Speaker 1: QB Brown, this was his standard operating procedure.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Steve Kerr famously likes to almost play everyone on his bench.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Yeah, he tries, right? But when it's time to really
- 30:43Speaker 2: do something.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Correct.
- 30:45Speaker 1: None of these guys actually do that when it's time
- 30:47Speaker 1: to win. And so a guy like John Morant, yeah,
- 30:50Speaker 1: is going to push back. as something like this. Like,
- 30:54Speaker 1: I don't know if anybody's right in this situation, right?
- 30:57Speaker 1: Like this isn't one of those where I think that
- 30:59Speaker 1: nobody is wrong. I don't think that this is an
- 31:01Speaker 1: approach that can work for running an NBA team. And
- 31:04Speaker 1: I don't think that John Morant is, I don't think
- 31:07Speaker 1: he is comporting himself in a fashion befitting of an adult.
- 31:12Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 31:13Speaker 1: Like, nah, man, if this is what we doing, man,
- 31:16Speaker 1: get out here and play.
- 31:17Speaker 2: This is the way that I look at these things.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Um, but they're going to have to figure something out
- 31:22Speaker 1: because you don't have a lot of stories about guys
- 31:24Speaker 1: coming out here and acting like that.
- 31:26Speaker 2: And then suddenly coming around.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I don't think that the head coach is going to
- 31:30Speaker 1: be able to win him over if it is already
- 31:32Speaker 1: reached this point. I don't think anybody's right here, which
- 31:37Speaker 1: means I don't have any idea how to fix this
- 31:40Speaker 1: other than tear the whole thing down.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Here's the thing about tearing the whole thing down.
- 31:47Speaker 1: I hear people make the argument that the reason that
- 31:50Speaker 1: what's happening with the Mavericks is happening because Dumont, the owner,
- 31:54Speaker 1: wants to move the team to Las Vegas because.
- 31:56Speaker 2: They're Vegas people.
- 31:57Speaker 1: And I think that there might be something to the
- 31:59Speaker 1: idea that he wants to move the team to Vegas.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I just.
- 32:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't say I know Adam Silver, but I've met
- 32:07Speaker 1: Adam Silver. We've spoken many times. I've interviewed him multiple times.
- 32:11Speaker 1: He's not a fucking idiot, okay?
- 32:13Speaker 8: And.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Therefore, I don't think he's moving a team out of
- 32:16Speaker 1: Dallas to go to Las Vegas. Don't really see that happening, okay? However,
- 32:24Speaker 1: Memphis is a tough market for the NBA. The team
- 32:27Speaker 1: clearly has a foothold in the city, but I don't
- 32:30Speaker 1: know what the money hitting for there, okay? You tear
- 32:34Speaker 1: it down in a place like Memphis and the people
- 32:36Speaker 1: stop coming and that becomes a team that people try
- 32:41Speaker 1: to move.
- 32:41Speaker 2: To Las Vegas.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Just because of the size of the market that it's in, right?
- 32:47Speaker 2: That's how that sort of thing goes. If people start
- 32:50Speaker 2: talking about tearing.
- 32:51Speaker 1: This team down, I think you start then getting some
- 32:54Speaker 1: whispers of other stuff. But the larger point for me
- 33:00Speaker 1: is not every market can afford to tear things all
- 33:03Speaker 1: the way down to the studs because a lot of
- 33:05Speaker 1: markets don't have enough people who will still come to
- 33:07Speaker 1: games for you to do that and to make this
- 33:10Speaker 1: profitable and to make this worthwhile, right? So I don't
- 33:13Speaker 1: know what it is they're going to do there, but
- 33:14Speaker 1: whatever they're doing right now, they can't keep that up.
- 33:16Speaker 2: That ain't the business.
- 33:19Speaker 8: All right, Bo, like you said earlier, we had to
- 33:27Speaker 8: make a last-minute audible on this show, so we figured
- 33:29Speaker 8: it was a good time to empty out some of
- 33:31Speaker 8: the old voicemails.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Let's take a listen to some.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Hey, Bomani. It's Mike, originally from Rochester, now living in Charlotte,
- 33:39Speaker 3: North Carolina. And I'm just wondering, where is DJ Mike Hitman?
- 33:44Speaker 6: Where is he?
- 33:45Speaker 3: I haven't heard him in a long time. Maybe he's
- 33:47Speaker 3: on one of the other platforms. But just wanted to
- 33:50Speaker 3: see where is the OG, man? Is he doing well?
- 33:53Speaker 3: What's up? Or have I missed something? Can't wait to
- 33:56Speaker 3: hear from you. And also, I miss when you and
- 33:59Speaker 3: Shen will go on about Cam Newton and his yogisms, man.
- 34:04Speaker 3: I still laugh and chuckle about when you're standing on
- 34:07Speaker 3: the pinnacle. Keep doing what you're doing. I'm a longtime
- 34:11Speaker 3: subscriber and best of luck to y'all. Peace.
- 34:15Speaker 1: It is so funny that you mentioned that about Mike,
- 34:18Speaker 1: because I had a moment a couple of weeks ago
- 34:20Speaker 1: where I realized I had not talked to Mike in
- 34:22Speaker 1: a while. Like the last time I saw Mike, I
- 34:26Speaker 1: did a panel at the University of Chicago and and
- 34:30Speaker 1: Mike pulled up to check that out so you know
- 34:32Speaker 1: I love Mike pulling up me and Mike hanging out
- 34:34Speaker 1: at the University of Chicago like I'm up there with
- 34:38Speaker 1: prominent labor economists as the grad school flunk out right
- 34:42Speaker 1: I'm hanging in there and Mike down there Mike got
- 34:44Speaker 1: this clean light blue jacket a yellow.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Tie Mike had the hat and the whole night.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I had Mike in the front row and then that
- 34:53Speaker 1: night it snowed ridiculously it was crazy but anyway I
- 34:56Speaker 1: hadn't talked to Mike in a while and then I
- 34:58Speaker 1: called Mike And Mike did not answer, which never happens.
- 35:03Speaker 1: And then Mike did not call back, which also never happens.
- 35:07Speaker 1: And he called me back one day and I missed it.
- 35:10Speaker 1: And so he called me again. I mean, I called
- 35:12Speaker 1: him again, and he did not call back. And I
- 35:15Speaker 1: got nervous, right? Like, I was like, yo, is everything
- 35:18Speaker 1: okay with Mike? So I had to hit Goff, because
- 35:19Speaker 1: Goff know Chicago. Goff know Mike from up there, completely
- 35:23Speaker 1: separate from us, right? And so Goff hit him, and
- 35:26Speaker 1: Mike hit him back. And we're like, okay, cool.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Man, it turned out Mike was on the Tom Joyner cruise. Right.
- 35:33Speaker 2: So I talked to Mike. Mike calls me back. We
- 35:36Speaker 2: talked for a while. Mike told me that he was
- 35:38Speaker 2: on the town of Jordan Cruz. Mike was riding around
- 35:41Speaker 2: with two Nigerian prayer women is what he called them.
- 35:44Speaker 2: And I attempted to see if they was Nigerian and
- 35:46Speaker 2: they did. He put me on the phone with him.
- 35:48Speaker 1: We was talking about living in Nigeria, where I lived
- 35:50Speaker 1: and like, oh, in the north of the houses.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Yeah. So we were going back and forth. Mike sent
- 35:55Speaker 2: me some pictures of him in a sombrero with the homies.
- 35:58Speaker 2: They was all suited up. I bet Mike was in
- 35:59Speaker 2: a suit even on that cruise, by the way.
- 36:03Speaker 4: You turned me on to something that I, which was
- 36:06Speaker 4: a real treat, which DJ Mike hit man's Instagram.
- 36:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Because I had heard, I had obviously, you know, heard
- 36:11Speaker 4: the legends, but I had not, you know, gotten to put.
- 36:14Speaker 2: You had never seen Mike.
- 36:14Speaker 4: Never seen Mike. And man. Talk about something that lived
- 36:18Speaker 4: up to my expectations.
- 36:20Speaker 1: But you didn't realize that Mike Hitman is cock diesel.
- 36:24Speaker 4: You're also correct.
- 36:26Speaker 2: He told us that one day that by this workout,
- 36:29Speaker 2: we were like, all right, Mike, Mike.
- 36:30Speaker 1: And then he showed us Mike, Mike hit the vapor
- 36:33Speaker 1: rub under his nose before we get out there. Y'all
- 36:35Speaker 1: really want no problems with Mike Hitman. Mike told me
- 36:37Speaker 1: he gonna run for president of Mexico. He said he
- 36:40Speaker 1: was down there talking to the people. He said he
- 36:42Speaker 1: ain't know what they were saying because it was in Spanish,
- 36:44Speaker 1: but he know that they need him.
- 36:46Speaker 6: Sure.
- 36:47Speaker 2: And so, hey, you know, Mike para presidente. So, yeah, no,
- 36:51Speaker 2: Mike's good. Did you ever get in touch with him?
- 36:54Speaker 4: I have not gotten in touch with Mike. I have
- 36:55Speaker 4: to be honest, I'm almost nervous.
- 36:59Speaker 2: It's so easy.
- 37:00Speaker 1: As anybody, there are people who have listened to this
- 37:02Speaker 1: show back when Mike used to give his phone number
- 37:04Speaker 1: all the time, who just called Mike up, and all
- 37:07Speaker 1: you got to say.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Is, you cool with me, no matter who you are.
- 37:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't do it today, but I can put Mike's
- 37:12Speaker 1: phone number on here, and you can just call Mike
- 37:14Speaker 1: when you're in Chicago and say, hey, I'm with Beaumont.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Michael, meet you and show you around. You know, Michael,
- 37:20Speaker 2: come hang out with you.
- 37:21Speaker 1: No, just call, hey, I'm Ryan, I'm Bo's new producer. Bye, y'all,
- 37:25Speaker 1: because we do need more Mike. That was the hardest
- 37:28Speaker 1: thing about changing the show from radio to podcast was
- 37:31Speaker 1: it was much more difficult to get Mike involved because
- 37:35Speaker 1: I'm not sure we have any of these things, if
- 37:37Speaker 1: not for Mike.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll have to sort that out. And again, the cam-isms.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Talk about something that never disappoints.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Oh, man, I forgot to tell Shannon. I got to
- 37:44Speaker 2: tell Shannon next time he comes on.
- 37:45Speaker 1: We got to we got to roll it back because
- 37:47Speaker 1: what's Shannon was doing that before we started doing the
- 37:52Speaker 1: national show together. So we came when we were doing local.
- 37:54Speaker 1: He wasn't doing it. And then he picked it up.
- 37:57Speaker 1: And so I did not feel comfortable taking it with
- 37:59Speaker 1: me because that's Shannon's right.
- 38:01Speaker 2: But it is great.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Anytime he comes back and we roll those out, especially
- 38:05Speaker 1: not in caves on TV.
- 38:06Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, and he's giving the cam-isms at all hours
- 38:10Speaker 4: of the day.
- 38:11Speaker 3: He is.
- 38:11Speaker 4: All right, here's our next one.
- 38:14Speaker 6: Hey, Bo.
- 38:15Speaker 10: This is Landon from Connecticut, and I've been a longtime fan.
- 38:20Speaker 10: You and I are the same age. I turned 45
- 38:23Speaker 10: back in April, and I know you have the same
- 38:27Speaker 10: birthday as Macaulay Culkin, fellow 1980 baby.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Anyway, I got.
- 38:33Speaker 10: Lots of praise I can give to you and all that,
- 38:35Speaker 10: but I just have one question. I remember an interstitial
- 38:42Speaker 10: on PTI, or not PTI, Round the Horn, excuse me,
- 38:48Speaker 10: and where they were talking about putting together a dream
- 38:51Speaker 10: band for a certain amount of money. You know, you
- 38:53Speaker 10: get a budget, you know, $ 1 for this drummer, $ 2
- 38:56Speaker 10: for this drummer, yada, yada, yada. And I remember you saying...
- 39:01Speaker 10: briefly in that commercial time frame prince prince prince prince
- 39:06Speaker 10: yep and the singer van morrison now i already knew
- 39:12Speaker 10: you were a huge prince fan as am i you
- 39:14Speaker 10: know um big time prince fan i got prince questions
- 39:18Speaker 10: galore for you another time but always curious where the
- 39:23Speaker 10: van morrison love came from and i'm you know don't
- 39:27Speaker 10: i heard you talk about bowie a lot but never
- 39:29Speaker 10: much about Van Morrison. Wonder if you can expand on that.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Yeah, man. So, I mean, what happened was very simple.
- 39:38Speaker 2: I started listening to Van Morrison. It was like, Hey man,
- 39:42Speaker 2: my boy can go. Like he's a one of one type.
- 39:46Speaker 2: I find is it's so interesting. I find that his
- 39:50Speaker 2: music is very soul music adjacent, right? Like them Irish cats, man.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Irish popular music always traffics in an interesting space. Now
- 40:01Speaker 1: he doesn't do the fun thing that I prefer, which
- 40:03Speaker 1: is clear out in front Irish accent when.
- 40:07Speaker 2: I wake up, you know, like that. He doesn't quite
- 40:10Speaker 2: give you that, right?
- 40:12Speaker 1: But it's the soul of the music that is so
- 40:14Speaker 1: clear and a really interesting like production style from him
- 40:17Speaker 1: because it is, Very jazz in some ways, but also, again, very,
- 40:21Speaker 1: very Irish folkish. And I'm really just talking about the
- 40:24Speaker 1: 68 to 74 run. But I will tell you.
- 40:27Speaker 5: This, man.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I went to go see Van Morrison at Forest Hills
- 40:30Speaker 1: in 2014. A, that is the whitest thing I have
- 40:36Speaker 1: ever done or been to in my life.
- 40:39Speaker 4: Oh, interesting.
- 40:40Speaker 2: I've never seen fewer people of color in a place.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Can I tell you the whitest concert I've ever been to?
- 40:45Speaker 2: Do tell.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden.
- 40:48Speaker 2: I could see that.
- 40:49Speaker 4: I mean, there was, it was single digits.
- 40:55Speaker 2: But what's so.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Interesting about that is, again, neither of them, I believe,
- 40:58Speaker 1: have music that is like people of color or verse.
- 41:01Speaker 1: I don't understand exactly how that goes. But let me
- 41:04Speaker 1: tell you, number two, no performer has ever treated me
- 41:09Speaker 1: as a patron with less respect.
- 41:13Speaker 2: Than Van Morrison. It's never felt more like a transaction.
- 41:18Speaker 2: then that Van Boren's a concert.
- 41:19Speaker 1: He got a band that's set in an arc, so
- 41:22Speaker 1: they don't even play for the crowd. They just play
- 41:24Speaker 1: for each other. He's standing still, and he's singing. The
- 41:27Speaker 1: last song is Gloria, and everybody in the band got
- 41:31Speaker 1: to do a little flourish or whatever, but I ain't
- 41:33Speaker 1: never had nothing quite like this, where that man walked
- 41:35Speaker 1: off the stage, and I went with my brother, and
- 41:37Speaker 1: I looked at him and was like, ain't no encore,
- 41:39Speaker 1: big dog.
- 41:40Speaker 2: We can leave right now.
- 41:44Speaker 4: All right, here's one more.
- 41:46Speaker 6: What's up, Bo?
- 41:47Speaker 5: I'm Ryan from Ryan.
- 41:48Speaker 6: Listening to you and Shannon talk, y'all mentioned the magician.
- 41:53Speaker 6: So I'm at my boy's party in Harlem. He does
- 41:57Speaker 6: his end of summer party every year. And I'm at
- 42:00Speaker 6: the party, you know, mainly when he is a mixed
- 42:03Speaker 6: friend group. Talking to one of the guests there, the
- 42:06Speaker 6: guy's talking, I'm like, yo, how do you know the
- 42:08Speaker 6: host of the party? And he's like, yo, I know him.
- 42:12Speaker 6: We're trying to organize like a fundraiser, charity run thing,
- 42:15Speaker 6: like organized events. So I actually just met him not
- 42:18Speaker 6: too long ago. You know, and that's what I do.
- 42:21Speaker 6: I plan charitable events, usually in the fitness realm. That's
- 42:24Speaker 6: my day job. Well, that's what I'm doing when I'm
- 42:27Speaker 6: not doing magic. You know, I've been doing it for
- 42:29Speaker 6: a few years. And he just talking about his job,
- 42:31Speaker 6: talking about his job. And I cut him off. And
- 42:34Speaker 6: I said, hold on, bro. Did you say you do magic?
- 42:37Speaker 6: And he's like, yeah. Bro, this motherfucker pulled out like
- 42:43Speaker 6: a deck of cards. Starts doing magic tricks. He did
- 42:48Speaker 6: magic for like the next hour. And then he just
- 42:51Speaker 6: said goodnight. He had dinner reservations and he left. And
- 42:56Speaker 6: the crazy thing is about a couple, I told one
- 42:58Speaker 6: of my boys about it, a mutual friend of the host.
- 43:01Speaker 6: And a couple months later, he linked up with that
- 43:04Speaker 6: host somewhere. And that's when my motherfucker was dead and
- 43:08Speaker 6: he did it again.
- 43:08Speaker 5: All right, man.
- 43:10Speaker 6: Enjoy your day, man. Love the show.
- 43:14Speaker 2: I mean... He is acknowledging, though, it was dope, right?
- 43:18Speaker 4: Magic is dope.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Like, I feel like if he did it for a
- 43:21Speaker 2: whole hour.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:23Speaker 4: Do you know how long an hour is? Like, think
- 43:27Speaker 4: about how, like, that is, like, think about stand-up for
- 43:30Speaker 4: an hour or a concert for an hour. But now
- 43:32Speaker 4: this is a non-professional.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Hey, trying to do a podcast for an hour by yourself, right?
- 43:40Speaker 4: And you don't have to do any sleight of hand.
- 43:42Speaker 2: He did that for a full hour. After a certain point,
- 43:44Speaker 2: he's like, excuse me, young lady, what is your name?
- 43:46Speaker 1: Come up here for a second. All right, I'm going
- 43:47Speaker 1: to show you something. Okay, now everybody here. I love
- 43:50Speaker 1: that he's stay ready, right? And every turn, he's ready.
- 43:53Speaker 4: He has his gear with him.
- 43:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm going to tell you this, man.
- 43:57Speaker 1: If you have a mastery at what you do and
- 44:01Speaker 1: the confidence to do it, you can own any room.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Forget about just magic. My man, Lyndon. I'm sure Lyndon
- 44:08Speaker 2: is listening to this show right now. Okay, Lyndon.
- 44:11Speaker 1: He's a skinny young man, but he's probably not skinny
- 44:13Speaker 1: anymore because he's a grown man now. But he is
- 44:15Speaker 1: from Kannapolis, North Carolina. He was one of my students
- 44:19Speaker 1: at North Carolina. Got a real strong, thick accent. Really, really,
- 44:22Speaker 1: really smart dude.
- 44:23Speaker 9: Right.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Knows a bunch of things about a bunch of stuff.
- 44:24Speaker 2: And he works in the shoe industry.
- 44:26Speaker 8: Right.
- 44:26Speaker 1: So one day I'm in California. This is about 15
- 44:30Speaker 1: years ago, I guess. I'm in California and I invite
- 44:32Speaker 1: him to hang out with me and a bunch of
- 44:34Speaker 1: my friends from graduate.
- 44:35Speaker 2: School, right?
- 44:36Speaker 1: So it's a wall-to-wall room of black people and Lyndon,
- 44:39Speaker 1: who is not, okay? Like we do not come from
- 44:44Speaker 1: the same places, right? So we are there and I
- 44:48Speaker 1: forget how this came up, but he was talking or
- 44:51Speaker 1: explaining how one would create a knockoff shoot, right? So
- 44:57Speaker 1: if one were to decide, To take a shoe that
- 45:00Speaker 1: is popular and to change it up just enough to
- 45:05Speaker 1: not get sued, but to still look like the shoe
- 45:09Speaker 1: that you hope to emulate.
- 45:12Speaker 2: And he got that confidence, right?
- 45:14Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, I will stand in this room full
- 45:17Speaker 1: of people and take off a shoe and give a
- 45:19Speaker 1: demonstration of how to create a knockoff.
- 45:21Speaker 2: And he did. And I watched as we were all engrossed.
- 45:26Speaker 4: That's awesome. It sounds fascinating.
- 45:28Speaker 2: We were not sober. He was. We weren't.
- 45:31Speaker 5: Right?
- 45:31Speaker 2: There was a bit of sobriety in the room.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And he stood up and he just took that off
- 45:35Speaker 1: and was like, okay, I take this and I put
- 45:36Speaker 1: this here.
- 45:37Speaker 2: We do this here. I turn this around. I do
- 45:38Speaker 2: this here. Ta-da! Knock-off shoot.
- 45:41Speaker 4: Right?
- 45:42Speaker 1: And I'm just saying, if you could pull that off
- 45:43Speaker 1: with knock-off shoes, imagine if you knew how to do magic. Like,
- 45:48Speaker 1: I bet you all of them did the... Well, David Copperfield,
- 45:52Speaker 1: wasn't he married to Claudia Schiffer?
- 45:55Speaker 4: I can't say that.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I bet all the magicians, even them Penn and Teller dudes,
- 46:01Speaker 1: I bet they all got bad ones, man.
- 46:03Speaker 2: They can run a room. You can stand up there
- 46:05Speaker 2: and run a room. I love that anywhere this man go, though,
- 46:07Speaker 2: he got that deck of cards.
- 46:09Speaker 3: He is.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Doing tricks, all of this stuff.
- 46:14Speaker 4: All right, here's our last one.
- 46:17Speaker 5: Bo, long-time listener here. I have a really funny story
- 46:21Speaker 5: about a former pro basketball player and playing in an
- 46:26Speaker 5: intramural league in Parker, Colorado. This former basketball player is
- 46:31Speaker 5: none other than Earl Boykins, a whole 5'5 inches tall.
- 46:37Speaker 5: We were playing in a league, and we finally got
- 46:40Speaker 5: the opportunity to play against his team. A buddy of
- 46:44Speaker 5: mine on my team, and I really hope that he's
- 46:46Speaker 5: a listener of your show. I think he probably is.
- 46:49Speaker 5: pulls up to the game and says, man, Earl's 5'5.
- 46:53Speaker 5: Let me guard his little ass. Let me tell you
- 46:56Speaker 5: that there is a big, big, big, big difference between
- 47:00Speaker 5: a pro basketball player and a dude that has only
- 47:03Speaker 5: played high school. And he guarded Earl, and Earl dropped
- 47:06Speaker 5: probably 45 on us. Earl took it to the rack.
- 47:10Speaker 5: Not a single dude on our team could do anything.
- 47:12Speaker 5: He was shooting from beyond half court like it was
- 47:15Speaker 5: a regular three-pointer. I think we probably lost by 30
- 47:19Speaker 5: or 40, and they had to call the game early.
- 47:21Speaker 5: I've never seen anything like it, and I've never played
- 47:23Speaker 5: against somebody as talented as him. And all you have
- 47:25Speaker 5: to remind yourself in this situation is he's 5'5 and
- 47:29Speaker 5: played in the NBA. He had to be really good
- 47:32Speaker 5: to be 5'5 playing in the NBA. Love listening to
- 47:35Speaker 5: the show, man, and been wanting to tell this story
- 47:38Speaker 5: for a while.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Peace.
- 47:40Speaker 2: Hold on. Not just really good, but also really strong. Yes.
- 47:43Speaker 2: And so I think you need to be afraid.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Also strong and fast. Yes.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Like you need to be glad that there was not
- 47:49Speaker 2: a hard foul.
- 47:50Speaker 6: Right.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Mixed up in this. Like whose ass is little now, bitch?
- 48:01Speaker 1: I'll guard earl's little oh no no no i don't
- 48:04Speaker 1: care who it is if his name is earl don't
- 48:07Speaker 1: call him little ass nothing no just telling you he's
- 48:10Speaker 1: not man with that name ain't gonna.
- 48:12Speaker 4: Be an earl the third or an earl.
- 48:14Speaker 11: Junior no matter no little about earls because he was
- 48:17Speaker 11: raised by an earl right like like i got it
- 48:21Speaker 11: my daddy got a pot named earl love earl to
- 48:23Speaker 11: death Earl is incredible.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Earl a PhD. Earl is like a gourmet caliber chef.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Earl is from New Orleans.
- 48:30Speaker 4: Got it.
- 48:31Speaker 2: I don't think you want no problems with Earl.
- 48:33Speaker 4: I understand completely.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Earl been to Vietnam. You understand what I'm saying?
- 48:39Speaker 4: Earl seen some things.
- 48:41Speaker 1: And look, I ain't never seen Earl do nothing but smile.
- 48:45Speaker 1: But I say about New Orleans, I tell you right now,
- 48:48Speaker 1: I ain't met a sucker from New Orleans yet. Not
- 48:52Speaker 1: a single solitary one. Eli Manning will fuck you up.
- 48:58Speaker 1: You don't think that.
- 49:00Speaker 2: But trust me, Odell Beckham, he'll be hee-hee all over you, boy.
