- 0:00Speaker 1: And I think we are going to be on fire today.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Let me tell you it's going to be ninety six
- 0:04Speaker 1: degrees today. I think they still predict ninety six degrees.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And after this, I'm going to go to Rora Elementary
- 0:11Speaker 1: to do field day with my grandson Raymond, So I'm
- 0:14Speaker 1: going to be really on fire today.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Field day was one of my favorite days in elementary school.
- 0:19Speaker 2: No kidding, really, doesn't he get out of school then?
- 0:22Speaker 3: Tomorrow?
- 0:23Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I believe because I know they're going to
- 0:25Speaker 1: go on vacation and head to Hawaii, which I asked
- 0:28Speaker 1: my daughter can I go?
- 0:30Speaker 4: But anyway, then we're.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Going to do a family picnic, so that'll be fun.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But anyway, we got to get going here today because
- 0:36Speaker 1: Brinker Harding is in the studio with us today.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Good morning, Good morning, how are you today?
- 0:41Speaker 3: I'm doing well.
- 0:42Speaker 4: Have you slept?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah? Absolutely?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Okay, Well, okay, let's talk about congressional race in district
- 0:50Speaker 1: to Breaker, it wasn't much of a nail bider because
- 0:54Speaker 1: you did not have an opponent, but you are officially
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Republican nominee now, and Denise pal has I guess
- 1:02Speaker 1: it hasn't been official yet, but she has claimed victory
- 1:06Speaker 1: for the Democrat side, and now the rubber meets the road.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And so now the next six months, you know, we're
- 1:12Speaker 1: going to learn a lot more about Brinker Harding and
- 1:15Speaker 1: what he wants to do and what he will do
- 1:18Speaker 1: for us in Washington, d C. And we're going to
- 1:21Speaker 1: hear a lot more about Denise Powell. But you know,
- 1:23Speaker 1: I just have to start out Brinker. I said this
- 1:26Speaker 1: on the show before. Who is Denise Palell? I mean,
- 1:30Speaker 1: my lord, if you turn on your TV, there seemed
- 1:33Speaker 1: like there was a commercial every ten minutes. If you
- 1:38Speaker 1: listen to the commercial, it made her sound like she
- 1:41Speaker 1: was the ultimate leader in Omaha and in this area
- 1:45Speaker 1: for decades. I've never heard of her. I mean, as mayor,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I was out about and I attended just about everything.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Never heard of her before. Lots and lots of dark
- 1:55Speaker 1: money coming in. I know you've nicknamed her dark money Denise.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Now, actually I did not okay for that. Actually it's
- 2:02Speaker 5: a pretty good one. I think it is too.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I call her blue dot Pale.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But let's talk about First of all, let's talk about
- 2:09Speaker 1: what she is running for. Alls I really heard is
- 2:13Speaker 1: she's pro abortion and she wants to maintain the blue dot.
- 2:16Speaker 1: That's about all I've heard with all of those ads.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So let's talk about who she is and then let's
- 2:22Speaker 1: talk about who you.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Are your campaign. I think that would be more interesting.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, as you mentioned, I wanted to go back
- 2:28Speaker 5: to the nickname. I actually I believe John Cavanaugh is
- 2:32Speaker 5: the one who coined the name. And I actually talked
- 2:36Speaker 5: to John yesterday. I called him on Wednesday and he
- 2:42Speaker 5: called me back yesterday. We had a nice conversation and
- 2:46Speaker 5: I told him, I, you know, I appreciated all that
- 2:49Speaker 5: he does for the state of Nebraska. I thought he ran,
- 2:53Speaker 5: you know, a good queen campaign and you know, quite frankly,
- 2:58Speaker 5: I told him, and I think here that the way
- 3:01Speaker 5: that the other campaign was run was was you know,
- 3:08Speaker 5: it was filled with dark money.
- 3:10Speaker 3: And I would assume he's.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Angry what happened, you know. I John Kavanaugh's politics are
- 3:16Speaker 1: totally different than mine.
- 3:18Speaker 4: But I like the guy.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I mean, I really do. I've met with him several
- 3:21Speaker 1: times when I was when I was mayor. He was
- 3:24Speaker 1: asking me about how things, what I thought about things
- 3:27Speaker 1: that he was proposing to do in the legislature, and
- 3:30Speaker 1: I appreciate that.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and I told him that.
- 3:32Speaker 5: I said, Look, every time we'd see each other on
- 3:35Speaker 5: the campaign trail or at events or parades, I mean
- 3:40Speaker 5: he was he and I both got along well, were
- 3:42Speaker 5: very collegial to each other.
- 3:44Speaker 3: And that's how I think it should be.
- 3:46Speaker 4: And now we have PO Denise, she's a p OD mom.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Can you say can you say that?
- 3:50Speaker 4: You could say pod?
- 3:51Speaker 1: You can't say what Denise said on the commercial, but
- 3:53Speaker 1: you could say POD. And I'm thinking to myself, this
- 3:56Speaker 1: is just what we need, another pod angry person in Washington.
- 4:00Speaker 3: D C.
- 4:01Speaker 5: Yeah, And what's what's really interesting. I mean when I
- 4:03Speaker 5: first got in this race officially last July first, and
- 4:08Speaker 5: really leading up to that with my public service on
- 4:11Speaker 5: the city council and even when I worked for the
- 4:14Speaker 5: mayor back in for hal Doab and and really in
- 4:17Speaker 5: my private sector life too is a commercial real estate
- 4:20Speaker 5: broker with Colliers. I think you know, I've always wanted
- 4:24Speaker 5: to make sure that people understood who I was and
- 4:27Speaker 5: I treated them as I wanted to be treated. And
- 4:31Speaker 5: I don't think you saw a lot of that in
- 4:34Speaker 5: the in the Democrat primary. I mean, as you said,
- 4:36Speaker 5: there was a lot of dark money that came in.
- 4:39Speaker 5: You had someone, and this is what I think is
- 4:42Speaker 5: really important. You had someone that, as you said, campaigned
- 4:46Speaker 5: a lot about, you know, protecting abortion and up until
- 4:49Speaker 5: you know birth, which I don't think most Nebraskans agree with. No,
- 4:55Speaker 5: and we have we now have a constitutional amendment, because
- 4:58Speaker 5: then I think there was some fear mongering that went
- 5:00Speaker 5: on about Trump was going to make it, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 5: put a federal ban on abortion. That's not going to happen,
- 5:06Speaker 5: and even challenge what we have in the state. Well,
- 5:09Speaker 5: there was a constitutional amendment we just passed and that
- 5:11Speaker 5: would have to take another vote. But she talked a
- 5:15Speaker 5: lot about protecting the blue dot, and that really kind
- 5:19Speaker 5: of irritated me because in all my campaigning I always
- 5:23Speaker 5: talked about what I was going to do for the
- 5:25Speaker 5: residents of the district Republican, Democrat or Independent, and not
- 5:32Speaker 5: just a blue geometric shape the blue dot exactly.
- 5:37Speaker 1: So my question is, Denise Powell, are you only going
- 5:40Speaker 1: to represent then the Democrats in congressional district too? Are
- 5:46Speaker 1: you not going to represent the independence and the Republicans?
- 5:49Speaker 1: Because both breaker both you and I have taken that
- 5:52Speaker 1: position in the past. I mean I have in the
- 5:55Speaker 1: past to say if I am elected, I will represent
- 5:57Speaker 1: all of you. Your politics may be different than mine.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I may not always agree with you, but I will
- 6:03Speaker 1: be your mayor. And you're saying I will be your
- 6:05Speaker 1: congressman no matter what your political party is. I'm hearing
- 6:09Speaker 1: from her it's protecting that blue dot, meaning let's be Democrat.
- 6:15Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's not what you know. This district is
- 6:18Speaker 5: made up of so much more than that. And I
- 6:20Speaker 5: said that the other night at our election night event,
- 6:24Speaker 5: that look, I you know, it's not about the blue dot,
- 6:28Speaker 5: it's about Nebraskans.
- 6:29Speaker 3: It's about CD two.
- 6:31Speaker 5: And it's interesting to see how quickly she's trying to pivot,
- 6:35Speaker 5: I mean to the point of whiplash. Now she's talking
- 6:38Speaker 5: about unity and all these things, and now it's like,
- 6:41Speaker 5: you know, who are you? I mean, I have been
- 6:44Speaker 5: very consistent over the years, in my both public and
- 6:48Speaker 5: private life of who I am and how I treat people.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I'll give you an example. You know, when when I
- 6:54Speaker 3: ran for city council, the first time I had.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Four mayors, I was in twenty seventeen.
- 6:58Speaker 3: It was four endorsed me.
- 7:01Speaker 5: You were one of them, yes, and the others it
- 7:04Speaker 5: was a combination of two Republicans and two Democrats, as
- 7:07Speaker 5: it should be.
- 7:08Speaker 3: And that's that's people know who I am. I've been
- 7:11Speaker 3: you know, I've said it here on the station before.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And you know, election night Breaker, when I spoke a
- 7:16Speaker 1: little bit at your event, I said, you show common sense, conservative,
- 7:22Speaker 1: steady leadership on the city council. And I said, the
- 7:25Speaker 1: one thing about Brinker is you can trust him. You
- 7:28Speaker 1: don't lie to people, No, not at all. And what
- 7:31Speaker 1: you say is what you get with Brinker harding.
- 7:33Speaker 5: But you also know I'm going to sit down and
- 7:34Speaker 5: listen to you, absolutely, and I've done that over the
- 7:37Speaker 5: years and I'm going to continue to do that. And again,
- 7:40Speaker 5: I you know, if they want to say they're protecting
- 7:43Speaker 5: the blue dot, then I'm going to say I'm protecting
- 7:45Speaker 5: the Brinker dot, and the Brinker dot encompasses as everyone Republicans, Democrats,
- 7:51Speaker 5: nonpartisans alike.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Well, you know, one of the things I called a
- 7:54Speaker 1: couple of the things she were on her commercial and
- 7:57Speaker 1: a couple of things she said since then, which I
- 7:59Speaker 1: really question. She came out with, I'm she was the
- 8:02Speaker 1: first candidate to ask for Christy Nome to be terminated. Okay,
- 8:06Speaker 1: so what is what I thought, and then I will
- 8:09Speaker 1: hold Ice accountable. Okay, how and then recently she's saying
- 8:14Speaker 1: she will put the brakes on Trump. Okay, how are
- 8:18Speaker 1: you going to do that? And it's so is this
- 8:20Speaker 1: all just another anti Trump uh candidacy? And and that
- 8:27Speaker 1: is not what we need in congressional district too. It's
- 8:30Speaker 1: not what we need in congress period.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's yeah. That was one of the other
- 8:34Speaker 5: things I think she ran on is you know TDS,
- 8:37Speaker 5: and you know, look I and you know.
- 8:41Speaker 1: What Starry to interrupt, But that is real. TDS is
- 8:44Speaker 1: real Trump Derangement syndrome. It truly is real.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I've seen it on both sides.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So I've seen it on people that love Donald Trump
- 8:51Speaker 1: and I've seen it on people that hate Donald Trump.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Boy, this is something we've got to get over here.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, and I've brought this up before, but
- 8:59Speaker 1: I think that they there are very few people that
- 9:03Speaker 1: have developed these feelings that have met They haven't met
- 9:06Speaker 1: Donald Trump. They've have never met with him, never had
- 9:08Speaker 1: a conversation. I've met with him three times, one time
- 9:12Speaker 1: before he was even announced. It was over in Pottawadamee
- 9:15Speaker 1: County at the Republican party event before he announced he
- 9:18Speaker 1: was running for president the first time two times after
- 9:21Speaker 1: I met him when he came off a Air Force
- 9:22Speaker 1: one down at the base. You know what, I found
- 9:25Speaker 1: him delightful in person. I mean, he's very tongue in cheek.
- 9:30Speaker 1: He's very friendly, he's funny, he's very witty. You know,
- 9:36Speaker 1: he wasn't what people expect him to be when I
- 9:39Speaker 1: met him.
- 9:40Speaker 4: And this was three times in a row.
- 9:41Speaker 3: So I told my story about my conversation with him.
- 9:44Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 5: So I did receive the endorsement from the President and
- 9:50Speaker 5: we got wind of it. It was actually on a Tuesday,
- 9:53Speaker 5: right before City Council, and I said to my team,
- 9:57Speaker 5: I said, I don't get a call. No, you don't
- 10:00Speaker 5: get a call and President really well, I was kind
- 10:04Speaker 5: of joking. I didn't expect one. But I'm driving down
- 10:08Speaker 5: to City Council and and my phone rings and it's
- 10:11Speaker 5: a two of two number. And you know, I pick
- 10:14Speaker 5: up every call now and even the ones that say
- 10:16Speaker 5: potential spam. But the lady online said can you hold
- 10:20Speaker 5: for the President? And I said absolutely.
- 10:24Speaker 4: No, I'm a little busy.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I thought maybe some song was kind of
- 10:28Speaker 5: pulled my leg But anyway, I had a great conversation
- 10:31Speaker 5: with him. He was you know, he knew a lot
- 10:34Speaker 5: about me. Obviously they had given him some information, but
- 10:36Speaker 5: he was sitting in the oval office with I think,
- 10:41Speaker 5: you know, Speaker of Johnson and some others. And but
- 10:45Speaker 5: it was a great conversation. Like you said, I mean,
- 10:47Speaker 5: he was very personable. But the funny thing was, I
- 10:50Speaker 5: thought it was funny at the very end of the
- 10:52Speaker 5: conversation he's like, oh, by the way, love the name,
- 10:57Speaker 5: don't change it, and oh yeah, I'm not going to
- 11:00Speaker 5: change my day the campaign. Yeah, but I mean he's
- 11:04Speaker 5: a master of marketing and and he understands that you
- 11:08Speaker 5: know that that can that Obviously I have a little
- 11:11Speaker 5: bit of a different name and it's I think been
- 11:14Speaker 5: helpful to me over.
- 11:15Speaker 4: The years, absolutely because it's a unique name.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Now, one thing I want to bring up to I
- 11:20Speaker 1: want you to respond to this is immediately I'm you know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I try to stay away from social media anymore just
- 11:25Speaker 1: because it's it's not always good for your mental health.
- 11:28Speaker 1: But you know, I looked at some of your social
- 11:30Speaker 1: media and immediately I hear because you said I will
- 11:35Speaker 1: represent everybody, I hear the word that I hate rhino.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Oh, he's a rhino. I've been called that many times.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I've had people call this show and call me a
- 11:44Speaker 1: rhino because I said I will represent everybody. There is
- 11:48Speaker 1: there is this feeling with some Republicans that if you
- 11:52Speaker 1: don't hate every Democrat and trash them, that you are
- 11:55Speaker 1: a rhino. I'm going to let you respond to that
- 11:58Speaker 1: because I said I am not I mean, I am
- 12:01Speaker 1: what I am. I am a conservative Republican. But when
- 12:04Speaker 1: I was mayor, I said I would represent everybody. You
- 12:07Speaker 1: have said the same thing with Congress.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Yeah, and look, I am a conservative, you know, been
- 12:13Speaker 5: registered Republican my whole life. But but I go back
- 12:17Speaker 5: to what I was saying earlier too. People at least
- 12:19Speaker 5: know that I'm going to sit down and talk with them.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Now if someone I want to take that opportunity, though,
- 12:25Speaker 5: to convince who I'm speaking with about the merits of
- 12:30Speaker 5: my case, and I hope that my persuasion is enough
- 12:35Speaker 5: that they can see my side of the story and
- 12:37Speaker 5: I can persuade.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Them to come over to the issue that I'm trying
- 12:40Speaker 3: to speak for.
- 12:43Speaker 5: So I don't think by agreeing to sit down and
- 12:48Speaker 5: talk with someone necessarily makes you a rhino or any
- 12:52Speaker 5: less conservative.
- 12:53Speaker 1: No, I think you are that one of those rare
- 12:56Speaker 1: politicians that you're always honest and truthful even if not
- 13:00Speaker 1: everybody agrees with you, and you consistently stick to your
- 13:05Speaker 1: principles and your beliefs. I think you can be trusted
- 13:07Speaker 1: and what more could you want from somebody that will
- 13:11Speaker 1: represent you in Washington, DC? And I think so many
- 13:15Speaker 1: people in campaigns lie to get votes. I don't see
- 13:19Speaker 1: you doing.
- 13:19Speaker 4: That or ever do that, And this is what you
- 13:21Speaker 4: don't want.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I mean I had that in my last campaign against
- 13:25Speaker 1: Mayor John Ewing, who I'm trying not to bring up
- 13:27Speaker 1: too often, but you know, when I think of some
- 13:30Speaker 1: of the things he promised from He's going to have
- 13:33Speaker 1: a better recipe for concrete, he is going to have
- 13:35Speaker 1: a better plan for snow removal. He's going to make
- 13:38Speaker 1: sure the police pay lesson to their pension. He's going
- 13:41Speaker 1: to redo all the streets in Elkhorn. No more sinkholes.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Well we know how that one went. And some of
- 13:46Speaker 1: these were just silly things because it's not the mayor's
- 13:50Speaker 1: fault if there's a sinkhole, it wasn't John Ewing's fault
- 13:53Speaker 1: that there was that big sinkhole by Zarbon. But you
- 13:55Speaker 1: promise that during a campaign and these are just they're
- 13:58Speaker 1: just basically lies to get elected, and a lot of
- 14:02Speaker 1: politicians will do that. I see Denise Powell doing that,
- 14:05Speaker 1: saying I will put the brakes on Trump, I will
- 14:08Speaker 1: hold Ice accountable. How Denise, how are you going to
- 14:12Speaker 1: do that? Does she now want to be, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 1: a member of the squad or what's her her goals now?
- 14:18Speaker 3: Well?
- 14:18Speaker 5: And I think too, I think one of her ads
- 14:21Speaker 5: actually said something about keeping Ice out.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Of churches and schools.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I saw that.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Tell me where in Nebraska?
- 14:27Speaker 4: That exactly exactly?
- 14:28Speaker 5: I mean, it's just it's fear mongering, right and again
- 14:32Speaker 5: and I you know, her ad about having to walk
- 14:35Speaker 5: around Omaha with her passport, I think that was disingenuous too.
- 14:40Speaker 1: And I brought that up on the show before because
- 14:43Speaker 1: I said, Denise, don't here hear this from me. The
- 14:45Speaker 1: AMA Police Department is not walking around arbitrarily checking people's
- 14:51Speaker 1: legal status. So you can put your passport back in
- 14:53Speaker 1: the safe. You know this is not going to happen. So,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I mean, I think that was again some fear mongering,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and I you know, it's just I think that you know,
- 15:03Speaker 1: her talking about these types of things, defunding law enforcement,
- 15:08Speaker 1: having to carry her passport around Blue Dot inside Baseball,
- 15:13Speaker 1: all of this stuff. It just really I think people
- 15:16Speaker 1: have really got to pay attention to what's going to
- 15:18Speaker 1: go on in the next six months with this race. Now, Brinker,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I've told you this before, and this is the biggest
- 15:24Speaker 1: race you've been in. And I told my family, my husband,
- 15:28Speaker 1: my daughter, my son. I said, Okay, for the next
- 15:31Speaker 1: six months, don't turn on the TV, read the newspaper,
- 15:34Speaker 1: listen to the radio, and you're going to be all
- 15:35Speaker 1: fine because you're going to hear some things about Brinker
- 15:38Speaker 1: Harting now that are, to my point, that are not
- 15:41Speaker 1: going to be true.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Tell me how your family is doing well us.
- 15:44Speaker 5: That's that's funny to bring that up, because when when
- 15:48Speaker 5: we're all happy now?
- 15:49Speaker 3: But yeah, well, well.
- 15:50Speaker 5: That's all right started But uh no, when when I
- 15:54Speaker 5: when we were making the decision and I say we
- 15:56Speaker 5: my family, I mean, this is the family decisions. My wife, Rebecca,
- 16:01Speaker 5: who's absolutely been incredible, is my biggest cheerleader.
- 16:05Speaker 1: She is like ubiquitous, she is everywhere and she's always happy.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Definitely punched above my weight there, but she's anyway, we
- 16:15Speaker 5: sat down and it was kind of I said, my kids,
- 16:19Speaker 5: I said, you know what you're You're about to find
- 16:20Speaker 5: out who your dad.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Really is or not or not? Yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 16:25Speaker 3: it's it's.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Unfortunate that that's why or that's how politics seem to
- 16:31Speaker 5: be these days. But look, that's this is such an
- 16:35Speaker 5: important race and it means so much to me to
- 16:38Speaker 5: be able to give back to the community in a
- 16:41Speaker 5: way that I think I can be helpful, and I'm
- 16:43Speaker 5: willing to put myself out there in spite of knowing
- 16:47Speaker 5: that all those attacks are going to become Yep, you're
- 16:49Speaker 5: going to.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Get beat up, and that's that's just unfortunately part of it. Now,
- 16:53Speaker 1: let's talk about the Republican Party. What can we both
- 16:57Speaker 1: of us say to the Republican Party right now, because
- 17:00Speaker 1: we both are Republicans. We need the unity, We need
- 17:04Speaker 1: them to get out and vote. Brinker when I saw
- 17:08Speaker 1: that the voter turnout for this primary was twenty eight percent, Now,
- 17:12Speaker 1: the Republicans knew you were going to get through, they
- 17:15Speaker 1: knew it, but there was still other important candidates that
- 17:20Speaker 1: were on the ballot, and a twenty eight percent voter
- 17:23Speaker 1: turnout usually in this primary it's around fifty percent or so.
- 17:28Speaker 1: What what's the deal? I mean what I had the
- 17:31Speaker 1: same issue with my last race. The turnout was terrible,
- 17:35Speaker 1: and what do we need to do to say, Republicans,
- 17:38Speaker 1: we have got to support each other and we have
- 17:41Speaker 1: got to get out there and vote.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Yeah, and actually that number that you quoted on the
- 17:46Speaker 5: turnout was that was statewide. Actually Douglas County was I
- 17:52Speaker 5: think twenty six percent, Oh my goodness, and Saunders was
- 17:55Speaker 5: around twenty one percent and Sarpie somewhere in between there,
- 18:01Speaker 5: I think. But yeah, that's it's really unfortunate. I mean,
- 18:04Speaker 5: I didn't have as you mentioned earlier, I didn't have
- 18:07Speaker 5: a primary opponent on the ballot. I had one up
- 18:10Speaker 5: until January Governor Pillen really didn't have any competition of
- 18:17Speaker 5: sorts nor rickets, and so there wasn't a lot to
- 18:22Speaker 5: I guess interest people to come out and vote, which
- 18:25Speaker 5: was unfortunate. What I was trying to do, I was
- 18:28Speaker 5: running my campaign like I did have an opponent, but
- 18:31Speaker 5: in part to help other to get turnout for other
- 18:35Speaker 5: candidates as well too. And so as you mentioned, you know,
- 18:39Speaker 5: typically in a midterm election, we have about fifty five
- 18:42Speaker 5: percent turnout presidential years, it's more like over seventy five percent.
- 18:47Speaker 5: So what we need to do is we need to
- 18:49Speaker 5: make sure that we energize the base and we get
- 18:51Speaker 5: them to turn out. I mean, you saw the effects
- 18:54Speaker 5: of that and some of the legislative races as well.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Absolutely, Now what's your thought about this. I'm just going
- 19:00Speaker 1: to go off what you are running about our four
- 19:03Speaker 1: or what your focus is, and talk about just a
- 19:06Speaker 1: little bit about these mail in ballots that the issue
- 19:08Speaker 1: with that. There were people accusing Donald Trump of saying
- 19:13Speaker 1: he wants to get rid of mail in ballots. Others said, no,
- 19:15Speaker 1: he does not. You when I asked the election commissioner
- 19:19Speaker 1: in Douglas County, I think this is interesting about mail
- 19:21Speaker 1: in ballots, I said, what is the actual return on those?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Very good with this election, it was about eighty five
- 19:28Speaker 1: percent of those that requested a mail in ballot they
- 19:32Speaker 1: got it back, And they said with a presidential race
- 19:34Speaker 1: it's usually ninety nine percent. So they're not lost after
- 19:39Speaker 1: they request them. They don't just leave them in on
- 19:41Speaker 1: their kitchen table and don't vote. What's your thought about that?
- 19:44Speaker 1: Should we keep up with the mail in ballots, and
- 19:48Speaker 1: like in the Secretary of State race, Scott Peterson was saying,
- 19:52Speaker 1: this makes it over a thirty day you know election process.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Should we keep them or should we go back to
- 19:58Speaker 1: election day and true absentee ballots.
- 20:01Speaker 5: Well, yeah, as long as it look as long as
- 20:05Speaker 5: we can make sure that they're they're fair and secure elections,
- 20:10Speaker 5: you know, to have that ability, I think it's something
- 20:14Speaker 5: that that as long again, as long as it's fair
- 20:16Speaker 5: and and maintain the continuity of you know, from the
- 20:22Speaker 5: ballot to the returning.
- 20:24Speaker 3: But you know, thirty five days is awful long.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Yes it is.
- 20:28Speaker 5: And here's let me use the example for especially like
- 20:32Speaker 5: in the city elections. I mean when when the city's
- 20:37Speaker 5: elections were set up where you have an April primary
- 20:40Speaker 5: and then you have the may general. And that was
- 20:42Speaker 5: before early balloting or early ballots were kind of a thing.
- 20:48Speaker 5: But now when you're you're elected in the or when
- 20:52Speaker 5: you go through the primary and then you're ramping up
- 20:54Speaker 5: right away for the general, people are voting almost you know,
- 20:58Speaker 5: just a couple of weeks after the primary for the general.
- 21:01Speaker 5: So certainly I think in the city elections we need
- 21:04Speaker 5: to rethink that. And then I look Ideally, I'd love
- 21:08Speaker 5: to see a much shorter season than thirty five days.
- 21:12Speaker 1: It is it because, I mean, things come up and
- 21:15Speaker 1: you want to get your message out, and when your
- 21:17Speaker 1: opponent accuses you of something, you got to respond to it,
- 21:21Speaker 1: and you got to let people know what you're really
- 21:23Speaker 1: what your position is.
- 21:24Speaker 4: It does it?
- 21:25Speaker 1: I mean it's really difficult when you got that long, long, long,
- 21:28Speaker 1: long period of time.
- 21:28Speaker 3: A lot can change in thirty days.
- 21:30Speaker 4: A lot can change.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Now.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Denise Powell obviously will be your opponent, she said, was
- 21:37Speaker 1: quoted in saying that the primary was fiery, and she
- 21:41Speaker 1: said now she expects the general election to be feisty.
- 21:46Speaker 1: So she's saying this, this race between you and her
- 21:49Speaker 1: is going to be feisty. Comment on that one, what's
- 21:52Speaker 1: your plan for the next six months?
- 21:54Speaker 5: Tell us I'm going to focus on what I'm going
- 21:56Speaker 5: to do for this or two. I've been very positive
- 21:59Speaker 5: in my messages from the day I got in this.
- 22:02Speaker 5: I've talked about a lot about about accountability in Washington,
- 22:07Speaker 5: d C.
- 22:07Speaker 3: And affordability for the people of.
- 22:09Speaker 5: District too, and so those are the positive things that
- 22:12Speaker 5: I'm going to concentrate on. You know, I think if
- 22:16Speaker 5: we lose the House. I think you're going to see
- 22:19Speaker 5: impeachment proceedings begin on day one, and I'd be interested
- 22:23Speaker 5: to hear what Denise says about whether or not she
- 22:27Speaker 5: would be supportive of impeachment proceedings if she were elected.
- 22:33Speaker 5: But again, I'm going to concentrate on those positive issues
- 22:36Speaker 5: for CD two and for I mean for all Nebraskans really,
- 22:40Speaker 5: and I think with my experiences of private sector in
- 22:45Speaker 5: the commercial real estate world, as well as my public
- 22:47Speaker 5: sector experience about being elected on city council and appointed
- 22:52Speaker 5: working for the mayor, I think those taking those positive
- 22:56Speaker 5: attributes and concentrating on bringing those positive results are what
- 23:01Speaker 5: the people of the district want.
- 23:03Speaker 1: We are with brinker Harding, who was our candidate for
- 23:05Speaker 1: Congressional District too. One last thing real quickly is I'm
- 23:09Speaker 1: going to let you respond to something that was brought
- 23:11Speaker 1: up with one of our callers or an email the
- 23:13Speaker 1: other day, and they brought up that brinker Harding is
- 23:16Speaker 1: going to lose votes because on the city council he
- 23:20Speaker 1: voted with Nate Dodge to develop the Sunset Hill golf course.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Therefore he is going to lose a lot of votes.
- 23:29Speaker 1: My response was that brinker Harding. Neither brinker Harding or
- 23:33Speaker 1: any of the other six city council members had any
- 23:36Speaker 1: legal reason that they could deny that development. Let you
- 23:40Speaker 1: answer that question.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Yeah, that was quite a while.
- 23:44Speaker 5: It was quite a while ago, actually, and nothing has
- 23:47Speaker 5: actually happened. That was the old Sunset golf course, and
- 23:49Speaker 5: nothing's actually happened on there. And so if they wanted
- 23:52Speaker 5: to do something, if anyone, they would have to go
- 23:56Speaker 5: through the whole process again. But look, I met with
- 23:58Speaker 5: a number of the the neighbors, and I remember that
- 24:01Speaker 5: case for yea. But it was very it was consistent
- 24:06Speaker 5: with the master plan. It was and by the way,
- 24:10Speaker 5: it was a unanimous vote.
- 24:12Speaker 4: With the city council all seven voted to approve it.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 24:14Speaker 5: But again it goes back to look, I didn't obviously
- 24:18Speaker 5: they were not happy with the way I voted, but
- 24:22Speaker 5: I was willing to sit down and talk with them,
- 24:24Speaker 5: and they knew where I was going to be. But
- 24:25Speaker 5: it was I got to my conclusion or my decision
- 24:29Speaker 5: based upon the facts of the issue, getting input both
- 24:33Speaker 5: from from city planning, from the constituents who were for
- 24:37Speaker 5: it and those who were against it, And that's how
- 24:40Speaker 5: I made my decision right, and I think a.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Lot of times the city Council is put in those
- 24:44Speaker 1: positions that they listened to their constituents. But if it's
- 24:47Speaker 1: in accordance with the development, if it's in accordance with
- 24:50Speaker 1: the master plan, if it's zoned correctly, you really have
- 24:54Speaker 1: no reason to deny it. I had the same thing
- 24:56Speaker 1: happened with a development very close to where I live
- 24:59Speaker 1: at a hundred twentieth and Q Street. There a bunch
- 25:02Speaker 1: of apartments that Pat McNeil was going to build, and
- 25:04Speaker 1: there was no reason for me to deny it.
- 25:07Speaker 3: But it has been very successful and my neighbors.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Didn't like it. I know it. So any last words,
- 25:12Speaker 4: Brankerhrting is with us today.
- 25:14Speaker 5: No, I appreciate the opportunity. I love this format, and
- 25:18Speaker 5: I think the people who call in and email in
- 25:22Speaker 5: and have great questions, and like you said, you respond
- 25:25Speaker 5: to everything.
- 25:25Speaker 3: So I appreciate you having this forum.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I try to respond to everything. I think most of
- 25:31Speaker 1: the time we do a pretty good job. But you
- 25:33Speaker 1: know I did the same thing when I was in
- 25:35Speaker 1: an elected position. If I don't know the answer, I'm
- 25:38Speaker 1: going to say I don't know the answer, but I'll
- 25:39Speaker 1: get the answer and get it back the next day.
- 25:41Speaker 1: But you know, it's fun doing this. It's really fun.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Have fun at field day today.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Yes, I'm going to field day with my grandson who
- 25:48Speaker 1: is eight. This is going to be really fun, oh boy.
- 25:50Speaker 1: And it's going to be ninety five degrees out too.
- 25:53Speaker 4: So thanks for being.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Here today, good luck, and I know we'll have you
- 25:56Speaker 1: back on the show many times before November.
- 25:59Speaker 3: I was for to it.
- 26:00Speaker 4: Bank Harding, our candidate for congressional district too. I want
- 26:04Speaker 4: to thank Brinker Harding for being on.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I know we're going to be talking to him a
- 26:07Speaker 1: lot more between now and November. But you know, once again,
- 26:11Speaker 1: if I would describe brinker Harding, I would say common sense, steady,
- 26:17Speaker 1: conservative leadership on the city council, and what more could
- 26:20Speaker 1: you want. He's very honest and he talks to people.
- 26:23Speaker 1: He listens to people and whether he believe are you
- 26:28Speaker 1: agree with him or not, He's going to give you
- 26:30Speaker 1: an honest answer. And I think that is something that
- 26:34Speaker 1: is almost rare with campaigns anymore. You hear a lot
- 26:38Speaker 1: of lies from candidates just to get elected. I brought
- 26:41Speaker 1: this up with youing with my campaign because you know,
- 26:45Speaker 1: there were so many things that he said that I
- 26:47Speaker 1: was standing right next to him, sing this what this
- 26:51Speaker 1: has never gone? You're never going to do this, and
- 26:53Speaker 1: some of them, like, for instance, he said no more
- 26:56Speaker 1: sinkholes because there was a sinkhole on sixteenth Street, while
- 27:00Speaker 1: obviously around Exarbon there was a bit of a sinkhole,
- 27:03Speaker 1: but I would never blame him for a sinkhole. That's
- 27:06Speaker 1: not the mayor's fault if there's a sinkhole in the street.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Snow removal was another thing. He was going to do
- 27:12Speaker 1: a much better job than me. And after he was elected,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I know that the Public Works said, well, what are
- 27:18Speaker 1: your suggestions and your plans to do it better? Well,
- 27:21Speaker 1: I really don't have any I just kind of said that.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I know he promised the police they would pay lesson
- 27:26Speaker 1: to their pension, and he knew that was something that
- 27:29Speaker 1: was going to be pretty impossible to do and he's
- 27:32Speaker 1: not doing that. And I know he also promised to
- 27:35Speaker 1: fix all those streets in Elcorn, which we've heard a
- 27:37Speaker 1: lot about, and that's not going to happen either. So
- 27:41Speaker 1: it's good when we have candidates like brinker Harding that
- 27:44Speaker 1: are going to tell you the truth and that we
- 27:46Speaker 1: could trust him. One thing I did want to bring up, though,
- 27:48Speaker 1: is Brinker and I touched on, is how important it
- 27:52Speaker 1: is for us now to rally behind our Republican candidate
- 27:57Speaker 1: because of what we have heard so far from from
- 28:01Speaker 1: Blue Dot Powell or you know, dark Money Denise or
- 28:04Speaker 1: whatever you want to call her, is there's going to
- 28:07Speaker 1: be a lot of issues that we are going to
- 28:09Speaker 1: hear about. But what she is running on basically is
- 28:12Speaker 1: she is pro abortion and she wants to maintain the
- 28:16Speaker 1: Blue Dot. And my first question would be, are you
- 28:18Speaker 1: only going to represent Democrats?
- 28:21Speaker 4: Because I didn't do that.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Brinker is not going to do that, and we have
- 28:25Speaker 1: a lot of Republicans and a lot of independence in
- 28:28Speaker 1: congressional district too. The unity issue is something that I
- 28:32Speaker 1: think is so important because the Republicans absolutely need to rally.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Mary Jane Trumper was on the show. I can't remember
- 28:41Speaker 1: if she was on Scott Show or if she was
- 28:43Speaker 1: on Chris Baker's show. I think it was Scott's show,
- 28:46Speaker 1: and they ask about endorsements and she said, no, we
- 28:50Speaker 1: you know, we we stay out of it in the
- 28:51Speaker 1: primary because we have multiple Republican candidates and then we
- 28:56Speaker 1: will rally behind our Republican candidate in the general. The
- 29:00Speaker 1: Douglas County Republican Party did not, And I mentioned it
- 29:03Speaker 1: on the show the other day and I said, they
- 29:05Speaker 1: did not endorse brinker Harding. The chair did send me
- 29:09Speaker 1: a text and said, well, they didn't endorse him because
- 29:12Speaker 1: he didn't follow their process, so they wanted him, by
- 29:17Speaker 1: their constitution to fill out a questionneer and answer questions.
- 29:21Speaker 1: I think then their constitution needs to be amended, because
- 29:26Speaker 1: I think people should be endorsed on either their results
- 29:29Speaker 1: if they are incumbents, are their efforts and their plan
- 29:32Speaker 1: and their vision for the future, and not based on
- 29:36Speaker 1: whether they fill out a certain questionneer and answer questions
- 29:40Speaker 1: the way they want him to answer. I asked about
- 29:43Speaker 1: Bob Evanan they did support the Douglas County Republican Party
- 29:46Speaker 1: supported Peterson and not Evnon two Republicans, and the answer was, well,
- 29:51Speaker 1: Evnan didn't ask.
- 29:52Speaker 4: So you got to ask.
- 29:54Speaker 1: And then I asked about myself because they did endorse
- 29:58Speaker 1: Mike McDonald and the answer was, well, he showed up
- 30:01Speaker 1: and made a few friends, that was the answer. So
- 30:05Speaker 1: I think, you know, I think they we need to
- 30:07Speaker 1: rethink these things about these positions that the county Party
- 30:11Speaker 1: is taking and we need to get behind our candidates
- 30:14Speaker 1: and rally our candidates and support our candidates, or we're
- 30:18Speaker 1: going to lose a lot more positions that we don't
- 30:20Speaker 1: want to lose.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to the phone lines here. I have somebody,
- 30:22Speaker 2: this is John on the line, who might have a
- 30:24Speaker 2: little bit of a different opinion. John, you are live
- 30:26Speaker 2: here on news radio eleven ten kfab with Geene Stuth.
- 30:31Speaker 6: Yeah, my name is John, and I'm a Democrat and
- 30:34Speaker 6: I like to disagree with Harden and the mayor because
- 30:39Speaker 6: you know, I've been voted, and I have been voted
- 30:42Speaker 6: twice in Republican Party for people that I believed in.
- 30:47Speaker 6: But it just sickened me to keep hearing the Republican
- 30:50Speaker 6: Party try to stand up for somebody who's right, who
- 30:54Speaker 6: have not lied, who have said all of these good
- 30:57Speaker 6: things you know you're talking about. President Trump called him
- 31:00Speaker 6: and he was just honest, and you talk to him
- 31:03Speaker 6: at the airport and he was just mindful. This man
- 31:07Speaker 6: has been convicted of foster rate. This man is you know,
- 31:13Speaker 6: been bought up on charge. He lie on a daily basis,
- 31:16Speaker 6: and he have I mean, how in the world can
- 31:20Speaker 6: you guys keep talking about someone else ability to function
- 31:25Speaker 6: and not lie? And this man lied all the time.
- 31:27Speaker 6: Anytime he open his mouth. He won't tell you the truth,
- 31:30Speaker 6: and you guys defend him on everything he do or faith.
- 31:34Speaker 6: That's why I can't ain't no way in the world
- 31:37Speaker 6: I could be with the Republican Party when they acting
- 31:39Speaker 6: this way behind this man.
- 31:41Speaker 1: John, thank you very much for your comments, But I
- 31:45Speaker 1: will say I disagree with you, John, because I think
- 31:48Speaker 1: Donald Trump did and is doing everything that he promised
- 31:53Speaker 1: to do during his campaign.
- 31:56Speaker 4: He's carrying it through.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Now there are there there's a lot of things he says,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and there's a lot of positions that he has taken
- 32:05Speaker 1: that I don't particularly agree with, especially the way he
- 32:08Speaker 1: says it. But I will say that he is doing
- 32:12Speaker 1: and carrying out what he promised to do during his campaign.
- 32:16Speaker 1: And I think that what is I mean, whether however
- 32:20Speaker 1: you feel about what's going on in Irun and in
- 32:23Speaker 1: the Mideast, what is happening now in China. I mean,
- 32:26Speaker 1: everybody has their opinion about it, but you can't say
- 32:30Speaker 1: that everything that comes out of Donald Trump's mouth is
- 32:33Speaker 1: a lie. You just said that, and I don't I
- 32:35Speaker 1: don't agree with that, and so I don't think everything
- 32:39Speaker 1: that comes out of his mouth is a lie. But
- 32:41Speaker 1: there's certainly a lot of people that dislike the president
- 32:45Speaker 1: what the president's doing right now, and that I mean
- 32:48Speaker 1: that is that is individual opinions. And I appreciate you
- 32:52Speaker 1: calling in and letting us know, but I will say
- 32:54Speaker 1: brinker Harding is not saying I agree with every single
- 32:58Speaker 1: thing that president says. He said President Trump called him
- 33:02Speaker 1: and endorsed him. That's what he said. And then brinker
- 33:05Speaker 1: Harding said, and here is what I am gonna do
- 33:08Speaker 1: if I'm elected to Congress. He didn't say I'm gonna
- 33:11Speaker 1: follow everything that Donald Trump says or does. He says,
- 33:14Speaker 1: here is what brinker Harding wants to do if he
- 33:17Speaker 1: is elected. And the thing that impressed me the most
- 33:20Speaker 1: is that brinker Harding says, I will listen to everyone.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I will represent all of you, and I will represent
- 33:27Speaker 1: you whether you are a Democrat or a Republican or
- 33:30Speaker 1: an independent, because that's who I am.
- 33:32Speaker 2: A hot Friday, temperatures as high as maybe ninety six,
- 33:37Speaker 2: and it's heating up in here.
- 33:39Speaker 4: It is heating up a little bit in here.
- 33:40Speaker 2: We're gonna cut to the phone lines. Brad, you are
- 33:42Speaker 2: live with Jean Stauthor here on the kfa B comment line. Welcome,
- 33:46Speaker 2: good morning, Brad, Hello Low.
- 33:49Speaker 7: Thank you for taking my call, and I know I'll
- 33:51Speaker 7: continue putting you a little bit through the ringer, but
- 33:53Speaker 7: I would like to I would like to kind of
- 33:55Speaker 7: expand on that Trump question a little bit more and
- 33:58Speaker 7: just understand it like the Republican Party is and latch
- 34:01Speaker 7: stuff behind Trump because you either have to support or
- 34:04Speaker 7: not support him. Right now, we've seen gas prices and
- 34:07Speaker 7: our cost of living just generally rise, and especially here
- 34:10Speaker 7: in how your culture economy that we are fertilizer is
- 34:13Speaker 7: going to be a big issue. So I just want
- 34:15Speaker 7: to understand, beyond a tax cut which I don't think
- 34:18Speaker 7: is paid, which is paid paid for itself, how do
- 34:21Speaker 7: we expect Trump to better support our economy and make
- 34:24Speaker 7: our lives better here in Nebraska, because I'm not seeing
- 34:26Speaker 7: the results that you're in besides hearing about how apparently
- 34:29Speaker 7: Biden destroyed the country.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Well, thanks for.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Your call, and you know, I do understand what you're saying,
- 34:34Speaker 1: because a lot of these increased prices now, including the
- 34:38Speaker 1: price of fuel and gas, are because of what is
- 34:40Speaker 1: going on in Iran. But I do think what is
- 34:43Speaker 1: going on in Iran, in my opinion, it is necessary
- 34:46Speaker 1: because we number one, Iran hates the United States. They're
- 34:51Speaker 1: killing their own people, they want to kill us, and
- 34:54Speaker 1: we want to prevent them from having nuclear weapons. That's
- 34:58Speaker 1: why this is going on right now.
- 35:00Speaker 3: And when this.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Conflict is over, I think that we can be guaranteed
- 35:06Speaker 1: that those prices are going to go down drastically. If
- 35:08Speaker 1: you look at the market, if you look at the
- 35:10Speaker 1: stock markets, things are going very very well right now.
- 35:13Speaker 1: So I think this is a period of time that
- 35:16Speaker 1: there's a lot of questions about when this is going
- 35:19Speaker 1: to end and are we successful. But I think, in
- 35:22Speaker 1: my opinion, it is necessary what is going on now.
- 35:24Speaker 1: So hardship now and hopefully soon things will smooth out
- 35:28Speaker 1: again and be good for Nebraskans and be good for
- 35:31Speaker 1: the country. And you know, I have to add a
- 35:33Speaker 1: little bit more about when I said I met Trump,
- 35:35Speaker 1: I met him. I mean I met him three times.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I met him briefly three times, so no in depth conversation.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I was just telling the listeners what he was like
- 35:45Speaker 1: when I met him. He wasn't the arrogant snob that
- 35:48Speaker 1: people think he is. He was very kind and very
- 35:53Speaker 1: talkative and very human. I mean very He's one of
- 35:56Speaker 1: those people that looks you right in your eye and
- 35:58Speaker 1: talks to you and ask you how you're doing. I
- 36:01Speaker 1: will say this, I got criticized a whole lot back
- 36:05Speaker 1: in twenty sixteen. I was going to be running for
- 36:10Speaker 1: reelection in twenty seventeen when Trump was running against Hillary,
- 36:15Speaker 1: and a lot was coming out about Trump at that
- 36:18Speaker 1: time about issues with women in the past. And I
- 36:22Speaker 1: was criticized greatly for this because I was running for
- 36:25Speaker 1: reelection and people asked me, did you vote for Donald Trump?
- 36:27Speaker 1: And I said I did not, And even Donald Trump
- 36:30Speaker 1: knew that because it was brought up to me from
- 36:33Speaker 1: his administration, and at that time, No, I didn't vote
- 36:37Speaker 1: for Hillary.
- 36:38Speaker 4: That I didn't want.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I didn't think I could honestly feel good voting for
- 36:42Speaker 1: Donald Trump at that time. So I wrote in someone,
- 36:45Speaker 1: and I wrote in John McCain, and I wrote in
- 36:47Speaker 1: John McCain because I liked John McCain at that time,
- 36:49Speaker 1: and I had met him and spent some time with him.
- 36:52Speaker 1: And I know people greatly criticized me for that, but
- 36:55Speaker 1: I told the truth and I said, this is what
- 36:57Speaker 1: I did, and this is why I did it.
- 37:01Speaker 7: How long do you think we should we should wait
- 37:03Speaker 7: for the Iran consulight, because it's just hard to qualify
- 37:06Speaker 7: when he says no new wars. But now we're crossing
- 37:09Speaker 7: this point of we're hoping grass prices will go down,
- 37:11Speaker 7: we hope that we're going to get the fertilized. We're
- 37:14Speaker 7: seeing our we're seeing all this pain and all the
- 37:16Speaker 7: economists seem to be pointed the fact that so come
- 37:19Speaker 7: September and October, we're not going to get crops in
- 37:21Speaker 7: the field. I mean, real change. I don't I don't
- 37:23Speaker 7: see what that is besides hoping a war that was
- 37:26Speaker 7: started because Israel said they have nuclear weapons? Isn't it
- 37:28Speaker 7: Iraq all over again?
- 37:30Speaker 1: They and they do have nuclear weapons, and they hate Americans.
- 37:34Speaker 1: And I think that you know, again, I know that
- 37:36Speaker 1: you are being affected differently than I'm being affected. I'm
- 37:39Speaker 1: mostly being affected at the gas pump right now. But
- 37:42Speaker 1: I do think that what is happening over there was necessary.
- 37:47Speaker 1: It was it you never ever in the past with
- 37:51Speaker 1: our wars that we have had, and this is really
- 37:53Speaker 1: not considered a war because it was not declared by Congress,
- 37:57Speaker 1: but you weren't asking generalizing how oer when's this has
- 37:59Speaker 1: gone be over? I want to know the date in
- 38:01Speaker 1: the time this is going to be over. It's over
- 38:02Speaker 1: when it's done, and that's basically it. Now when is
- 38:05Speaker 1: it going to be done? You know that depends on
- 38:08Speaker 1: a lot of people that have a lot more smarts
- 38:10Speaker 1: and brains that are involved than I am. But it
- 38:13Speaker 1: is getting to that point that they feel like and
- 38:16Speaker 1: those that are leading this conflict that feel like that
- 38:19Speaker 1: the job is getting done. We don't want to leave ourselves,
- 38:24Speaker 1: the United States, so vulnerable that Iran can come back
- 38:28Speaker 1: and use nuclear weapons against us. Yes, it was like
- 38:31Speaker 1: last summer that we had a conflict over there and
- 38:35Speaker 1: people said, well I thought all those nuclear weapons were gone.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Well at that time they were, but they have uranium
- 38:41Speaker 1: and they have the ability to build more. And we
- 38:44Speaker 1: had been in negotiations with Iran since then trying to
- 38:47Speaker 1: get them to agree that they were not going to
- 38:50Speaker 1: continue to mine uranium and make nuclear weapons, and we
- 38:53Speaker 1: could not get there. So it I mean, it's it's
- 38:56Speaker 1: there's a lot more going on than I have expertise in.
- 39:00Speaker 1: But I think of what we hear from our leaders
- 39:03Speaker 1: is that it's coming to an end.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Thank you for the calls today here on news Radio
- 39:07Speaker 2: eleven ten Cafe B. We especially appreciate the differing opinions.
- 39:11Speaker 2: I do to have a really, really good conversation, So
- 39:14Speaker 2: thank you for all the callers today. Jeane wrapping up
- 39:16Speaker 2: here on a Friday. You're wearing some fun outside looking clothes.
- 39:20Speaker 2: You're going to be in the sun wear you're sunscreen?
- 39:22Speaker 3: I do I have.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I am not dressed really too appropriately today with shorts
- 39:27Speaker 1: and a T shirt. But I'm going to Roar Elementary
- 39:30Speaker 1: to be with my grandson, Raymond, who is eight years old.
- 39:33Speaker 1: It's field day. You said that was one of your
- 39:35Speaker 1: favorite days. But I got to tell you my Max
- 39:38Speaker 1: story real quick. So I took care of Max, which
- 39:40Speaker 1: is Raymond's younger brother who I talk about a lot
- 39:42Speaker 1: on the air.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Max is six years old.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Max.
- 39:45Speaker 1: I took care of him on Wednesday, like I do
- 39:47Speaker 1: every Wednesday. And when I got there on Wednesday, got
- 39:50Speaker 1: off the bus, I said what are we going to
- 39:52Speaker 1: do today?
- 39:52Speaker 4: And he said we're going to do ax throwing?
- 39:55Speaker 1: And I thought, oh good lord, what is this child
- 39:58Speaker 1: gonna do? And so he tells me you sit down there,
- 40:01Speaker 1: Grandma in the kitchen. I'm gonna go downstairs. You sit
- 40:03Speaker 1: right there. I'll be right back. And all of a sudden,
- 40:05Speaker 1: I hear this crashing noise and I hear him go,
- 40:08Speaker 1: I need some help down here. And he's trying to
- 40:11Speaker 1: drag this like fifty pound metal frame thing up the
- 40:15Speaker 1: stairs that has this big plastic target on it in
- 40:19Speaker 1: plastic axes in little stars.
- 40:22Speaker 4: So we drag it up.
- 40:23Speaker 1: And here's the funny part is he tells me, Grandma,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you don't have good hand eye coordination. And I get
- 40:28Speaker 1: real competitive with this six year old kid. I'm like,
- 40:30Speaker 1: it's he's to show you. But anyway, we want to
- 40:33Speaker 1: thank all of you for being with us today and
- 40:35Speaker 1: spending time with us. Thank you for listening, thank you
- 40:38Speaker 1: for your comments. Like we said, anything goes. I appreciate
- 40:41Speaker 1: you calling in even with you don't agree with us,
- 40:44Speaker 1: but we will be back on Monday. And I am
- 40:47Speaker 1: Jean Stothard and this is eleven ten kfab
