- 0:00Dot com Welcome to the Daily Quote, a podcast designed to
- 0:07kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host Andrew McGivern for August 31st.
- 0:13Today is National Eat Outside Day, celebrating the simple
- 0:17pleasure of dining under the open sky.
- 0:20Friends, fresh air and good food are the focus of National Eat
- 0:23Outside Day every year on August 31st.
- 0:27Whether it's a picnic in the park, dinner on your deck, or
- 0:31lunch at a sidewalk cafe, there's something magical about
- 0:34breaking bread in the great outdoors.
- 0:37As we stand on the threshold between summer and autumn, this
- 0:41holiday reminds us to savor these last warm days.
- 0:45Food simply tastes better when accompanied by a gentle breeze
- 0:49and natural light. Today's quote comes from Ralph
- 0:52Waldo Emerson, the Great American philosopher and poet
- 0:56who said do not go where the path may lead.
- 1:02Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
- 1:07At first glance, you might wonder what blazing new trails
- 1:11has to do with eating outside. But think about it.
- 1:14Every time we choose to step away from their typical indoor
- 1:18routines, we're creating our own small adventures.
- 1:22Emerson understood that life's richest experiences often happen
- 1:25when we venture beyond our comfort zones.
- 1:28And isn't that exactly what National Eat Outside Day
- 1:30encourages? Instead of following the
- 1:32predictable path to our kitchen table or office cafeteria, we're
- 1:37invited to forge a different trail to a park bench, a garden,
- 1:42or even just our front steps. For some people, National Eat
- 1:45Outside Day is a big deal. But for us, it is every day that
- 1:50isn't raining or too cold. Yeah, we always eat outside if
- 1:54we can. We always have.
- 1:57And that is a little strange for some people.
- 2:00When we lived downtown, we had a tiny balcony that could fit just
- 2:03a small table and two chairs, and we were out there every day
- 2:06for breakfast and dinner. And later, when we had a covered
- 2:10deck, we were out there all the time.
- 2:13And now we do the same in our backyard dining area under a
- 2:16pergola with the wisteria vine and patio lights, and we love
- 2:20it. I mean, why would you want to
- 2:23eat inside anyway? But back to the quote.
- 2:27Emerson's wisdom applies to the smallest choices in our lives.
- 2:31When we eat outside, we're not just changing our location.
- 2:35We're choosing presence over productivity, experience over
- 2:39efficiency. We're leaving a little trail
- 2:42that says, here's someone who chose to slow down and pay
- 2:46attention to the world around them.
- 2:49So today, as we celebrate National Lead Outside Day, I
- 2:53encourage you to follow Emerson's advice.
- 2:56Don't just take the convenient path to your usual eating spot.
- 3:00Step outside, literally. Pack a lunch for the park, grab
- 3:05coffee for the garden, or simply move dinner to the patio.
- 3:09Create your own small trail of mindful moments.
- 3:13Because sometimes the most meaningful adventures begin with
- 3:16something as simple as deciding to eat your breakfast on the
- 3:19front porch instead of the kitchen table.
- 3:24That's going to do it for today. I'm Andrew Mcgibburn, signing
- 3:28off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:33Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
