- 1:40Speaker 3: that's in those things these days, you can you can
- 1:43Speaker 3: send over a text message to three zero four nine
- 1:45Speaker 3: three five five zero zero eight. So it's been a month,
- 1:47Speaker 3: man that we used to do these shows twice a month,
- 1:48Speaker 3: so it feels like it's forever since I see it now.
- 1:50Speaker 4: How you doing?
- 1:51Speaker 5: I'm doing good talking about Nitro. I was on a
- 1:55Speaker 5: board meeting last night. If you've not been in Nitro
- 1:59Speaker 5: and you are a pickleball player, we have a new
- 2:04Speaker 5: covered pickleball court.
- 2:06Speaker 4: A covered beautiful Now that's how fluting.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Yes, yes, uh, I don't think. I talked to Dave yesterday,
- 2:13Speaker 5: the mayor, and it's I don't think it's one hundred
- 2:15Speaker 5: percent complete. I believe there's a punch list of small
- 2:18Speaker 5: things to do, but it's it's striking pretty. I mean,
- 2:22Speaker 5: you just drive down here and go, wow, I wonder
- 2:24Speaker 5: what that great big cover over that that? Uh it
- 2:27Speaker 5: looks it looks like a fabric quants and hut. I
- 2:31Speaker 5: don't know how big. I don't know. The dimensions bears
- 2:33Speaker 5: a lot of courts in there, and yes, it looks good.
- 2:37Speaker 5: And once again, I can't say enough about Dave that
- 2:40Speaker 5: that he loves the city like I love cars. And uh,
- 2:44Speaker 5: Dave and I were within a year of each other.
- 2:47Speaker 5: And if you have that passion, you have that love,
- 2:49Speaker 5: it will show you know where it shows on the
- 2:51Speaker 5: end of your career. I mean, I don't know how long.
- 2:54Speaker 5: I hope Dave's there forever. But I don't think he
- 2:56Speaker 5: will be. I believe he's a very active fellow. If
- 2:58Speaker 5: you talk about a golfer, wow, see you in my dreams.
- 3:03Speaker 5: I've never been that good. But he's just a very
- 3:05Speaker 5: good fellow. That felt you know that that leads the
- 3:09Speaker 5: city into the new era. And it's like I'm walking
- 3:12Speaker 5: up and down the hallways here and I'm seeing a
- 3:14Speaker 5: lot of advancement and a lot of improvement. It really
- 3:17Speaker 5: looks good. And when it's done, it's going to be
- 3:18Speaker 5: a showstopper of what you have done here. So my
- 3:21Speaker 5: hat's off to you. You've told me about it, and
- 3:24Speaker 5: I knew it was coming decade. It's time travels since
- 3:31Speaker 5: my slow down and stepping out of the retail world.
- 3:34Speaker 5: And I called a hobby. I've got a hobby. I
- 3:36Speaker 5: buy cars. You know, I'm fooling around. I mean, who
- 3:38Speaker 5: doesn't love cars? And if you can do it and
- 3:40Speaker 5: make a little change, yeah, go ahead and do it.
- 3:43Speaker 4: You know.
- 3:43Speaker 5: It's like you and I expect before we went on
- 3:45Speaker 5: the air, how many teachers retire after thirty five years
- 3:49Speaker 5: of service? In a year year and a half later,
- 3:52Speaker 5: they go back and sub well, they go back and
- 3:54Speaker 5: substitute teach because the love and the passion. I don't
- 3:57Speaker 5: think they do it for the money. And you know,
- 4:00Speaker 5: we hear stories about the classrooms. I'm not so sure
- 4:03Speaker 5: that I have the patience to go in and try
- 4:07Speaker 5: to instruct a group of young people. But God bless
- 4:09Speaker 5: our teachers, and they deserve every dollar they make and pay.
- 4:12Speaker 5: And you know a lot of them go back and
- 4:14Speaker 5: sup just to have something to do. I knew that
- 4:19Speaker 5: going in. So when I decided to step down and
- 4:22Speaker 5: get out of the grind of the every day, I
- 4:24Speaker 5: just didn't want to give up and retire and expire.
- 4:27Speaker 5: So I am doing what I like best about my occupation,
- 4:32Speaker 5: that was buying cars. So I do every day. I
- 4:37Speaker 5: am taken back by the response of people that has
- 4:41Speaker 5: contacted me directly or indirectly. When I say indirectly, by
- 4:46Speaker 5: referrals of it's not it's almost every day. I mean,
- 4:51Speaker 5: if I open my phone up to show you the
- 4:53Speaker 5: messages that I get, and I know ninety percent.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Of care gonna have to hire an assistant. Yeah, that's
- 4:59Speaker 3: overhead me. I want to mess with that.
- 5:01Speaker 5: This old guy in his sixties will just fumble through it.
- 5:04Speaker 5: But one thing I will do. I will either text
- 5:07Speaker 5: you back, and I really prefer calling. I will call you,
- 5:10Speaker 5: you know, just to say what has happened in the
- 5:13Speaker 5: last week or so, just through referrals. I'm meeting a
- 5:17Speaker 5: gentleman tomorrow. I think in the past I've sold him
- 5:21Speaker 5: two or three vehicles for his son. During our conversation,
- 5:25Speaker 5: he'd let me know that the last car has sold
- 5:28Speaker 5: a son at two hundred thousand miles is still running
- 5:31Speaker 5: and still being driven. And so that's I like hearing that. Unfortunately,
- 5:36Speaker 5: he lost a loved one in his family and he
- 5:38Speaker 5: has the responsibility of liquidating a car. It's an emotional thing.
- 5:43Speaker 5: He doesn't really want to go in the fakebook world
- 5:45Speaker 5: where you do not know who's coming. And I'm telling you,
- 5:49Speaker 5: scams is at all time high and there are not
- 5:52Speaker 5: slowing down.
- 5:53Speaker 3: They actually reduced their barriers to some of this stuff
- 5:55Speaker 3: on Facebook, and so it's becoming where for years they
- 5:58Speaker 3: were trying to get better, now they don't even try anymore.
- 6:00Speaker 5: So that's that's terrible, this click bait. And and you know,
- 6:03Speaker 5: I I see things, and I'm a type person and
- 6:08Speaker 5: I'm always say I'm not going to say that I
- 6:10Speaker 5: don't scan and look. And when I see something that
- 6:13Speaker 5: is interesting, a headline or something that I think could
- 6:17Speaker 5: not be factual, I give it a day or two
- 6:19Speaker 5: where I'll go to Google and google that particular subject
- 6:23Speaker 5: and I just can't believe it's not it's not factual,
- 6:26Speaker 5: it's not true. There has been a nuptick and I've
- 6:31Speaker 5: seen and I actually have contact to different people that
- 6:34Speaker 5: I know that they are advertising a moving cell. In
- 6:38Speaker 5: other words, we're downside and we're moving the picture of
- 6:41Speaker 5: the washing dryer that you contractor the ping pong table,
- 6:44Speaker 5: the car at ridiculous prices, and they'll say, I'm not
- 6:47Speaker 5: going to be out. I'm going to be out of town.
- 6:49Speaker 5: There's gonna be no holds without a deposit. Well, there's
- 6:53Speaker 5: your first clue, and I about two.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Well, let this go. You couldn't pay me to do
- 6:58Speaker 4: this deal. Whatever it is, there is no chance.
- 7:01Speaker 5: I have been out about eighteen months from the retail world,
- 7:05Speaker 5: and so it was probably, let's go back three years
- 7:07Speaker 5: that I saw one. It was an interesting price, and whoever,
- 7:11Speaker 5: you know, I buy ours or we buy So I
- 7:14Speaker 5: start communicating with the lady and she said she lived
- 7:18Speaker 5: in Beechwood. Well, I grew up less than a mile
- 7:21Speaker 5: from Beechwood. I know everybody, all the old timers in Beechwood.
- 7:26Speaker 5: And I started talking to her, chatting with her via
- 7:30Speaker 5: text instant messenger. I believe and uh. I asked her
- 7:36Speaker 5: if she went to Winfield High School and she suggests,
- 7:40Speaker 5: And I asked her what years she graduated? I said,
- 7:42Speaker 5: what ye had? You know? I said, I've got my
- 7:45Speaker 5: son went to Winfield. I said what years you graduate was?
- 7:48Speaker 5: She said a number? And I asked her if she
- 7:51Speaker 5: knew my son and it was a long pause. So
- 7:55Speaker 5: I went back and looked at those pictures, and I
- 7:58Speaker 5: know Beechwood. I thought, I've never seen a background in
- 8:02Speaker 5: Beechwood with those type of plants. Oh okay. I started
- 8:06Speaker 5: doing a little research. Now, this Malibu she had advertised
- 8:11Speaker 5: was I mean, it was attractive, but so was the
- 8:13Speaker 5: golf cart, and so was some other items. So I
- 8:17Speaker 5: got in my car and I thought she gave me
- 8:19Speaker 5: the dress of Beechwood. So I'm driving down there and
- 8:21Speaker 5: I messing heed her when I got off the valley
- 8:25Speaker 5: Exeter and I said, well, I happen to be going
- 8:28Speaker 5: to Putnam County Bank. Whyn't I just drive by? Well,
- 8:31Speaker 5: I'm out of town. But if you want to vehicle,
- 8:35Speaker 5: let me know and I'll take a deposit on it.
- 8:38Speaker 5: So I told this story a few years ago on
- 8:42Speaker 5: this show. I started noticing that was being put on
- 8:48Speaker 5: about once a month. I guess she wore the gig
- 8:51Speaker 5: out toil family sub May traptors went away. I don't know,
- 8:54Speaker 5: but how much money do you think she got? Because
- 8:57Speaker 5: the price was was very attractive. Well, once again, how
- 9:00Speaker 5: many years have I came in here and I said,
- 9:03Speaker 5: don't chase price?
- 9:04Speaker 3: Yeah right, because you'll get because you know, play on
- 9:07Speaker 3: your emotions and you'll do exactly something like.
- 9:08Speaker 5: This chase service.
- 9:09Speaker 4: And you know that.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Whoever fell for this, somewhere deep in their subconscious they knew, man,
- 9:15Speaker 3: if it's too good to be true, it's too good
- 9:16Speaker 3: to be true. And then you're mad afterwards when you
- 9:19Speaker 3: get scammed. But there's also a little part of your
- 9:22Speaker 3: brain that saying, yeah, you kind of knew this was
- 9:24Speaker 3: going to go this way.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Well, it was the vehicle that fixed that fit the
- 9:29Speaker 5: slot for a lot of people, like probably young people
- 9:33Speaker 5: because it was a Chevrolet Cruise or Malibu, I can't remember.
- 9:37Speaker 5: But it was a very attractive price, and you looked
- 9:39Speaker 5: at pictures in the oddometer, you go, wow, this, you
- 9:43Speaker 5: know I'll never find one like this again. Well you
- 9:47Speaker 5: probably would if you start looking at all the scams,
- 9:49Speaker 5: because I've noticed it's been an uptick that. And once
- 9:54Speaker 5: you click bait and they've got you, you cannot delete
- 9:58Speaker 5: your profile. My sister in law that's married to my
- 10:01Speaker 5: younger brother, I do not I have not seen it,
- 10:06Speaker 5: but it was bitcoin. How much money she made in
- 10:09Speaker 5: bitcoy But oh yeah, well she got she did the
- 10:13Speaker 5: click bait, They got her, they got into her, they
- 10:16Speaker 5: hacked her identity.
- 10:18Speaker 4: That's actually one I haven't heard.
- 10:20Speaker 3: So because a lot of people don't really understand bit point,
- 10:23Speaker 3: and you hear these stories about hey, I bought a
- 10:24Speaker 3: bitcoin ten years ago and I'm a millionaire now, people
- 10:27Speaker 3: are like, oh, really, maybe I did buy one when
- 10:29Speaker 3: I did X y Z ten years ago or whatever.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I get it.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Actually, I know two people want to have to be
- 10:34Speaker 5: a relative and the other one is a very good
- 10:36Speaker 5: friend of mine's wife, and they basically and you can't
- 10:39Speaker 5: go in and delete your profile. I mean it just
- 10:43Speaker 5: runs and runs runs, And I'm sure, without a doubt
- 10:46Speaker 5: it's been a couple of years that people has contacted
- 10:48Speaker 5: my sister law and said, hey, you got just you
- 10:50Speaker 5: know what's going on. It's not me. I've been hacked
- 10:55Speaker 5: a former state police superintendent. It's a friend of mine
- 11:00Speaker 5: and I saw something on his and I contacted him.
- 11:03Speaker 5: I said, is that for sale? He said, I've been
- 11:06Speaker 5: hacked and I can't do anything about it. So be careful.
- 11:09Speaker 5: You to be careful.
- 11:10Speaker 3: You know what's crazy on Facebook? As I get warnings
- 11:12Speaker 3: probably three times a week on completely legitimate news stories
- 11:17Speaker 3: are that is mirrored from our news site because their
- 11:20Speaker 3: algorithm flags it as having language that to try to
- 11:25Speaker 3: encourage interest or it's like it's a news story.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I mean, we're not. It's not clickbait. It's a news story.
- 11:29Speaker 3: And every single time after I protest that they release
- 11:32Speaker 3: it and the story ends up going out, but it
- 11:33Speaker 3: gets captured and it takes three weeks for that story
- 11:36Speaker 3: to get released back into the wild. By that time,
- 11:39Speaker 3: it's you know, I mean, it's no longer relevant for
- 11:40Speaker 3: it to be seen on the site. It's not the
- 11:42Speaker 3: biggest deal. That's not what we do. We're not a
- 11:44Speaker 3: Facebook news site where a radio station. It's just one
- 11:46Speaker 3: of the ways we share our news. But what makes
- 11:48Speaker 3: me mad is I see any number of garbage on
- 11:51Speaker 3: Facebook that just goes through completely unfiltered, And here's our
- 11:54Speaker 3: one hundred year old media companies, legitimate news story that's
- 11:57Speaker 3: going on there that they flag three times a week.
- 12:00Speaker 3: What in the world, man, What in the world. And
- 12:02Speaker 3: I'm convinced of this one of the things. And I've
- 12:04Speaker 3: thought about this because of the shows that we do,
- 12:07Speaker 3: and you're such a service driven individual as far as
- 12:10Speaker 3: as paying off relationships and things like that, I am
- 12:12Speaker 3: absolutely convinced now. And there's always been I mean, for
- 12:16Speaker 3: as long as there's been customer service, there's been people
- 12:18Speaker 3: complaining about customer service. Who has good customer service, who
- 12:20Speaker 3: has bad customer service, so on and so forth. Over
- 12:22Speaker 3: the last I don't know, maybe six months or so,
- 12:25Speaker 3: I've had several situations, similar situations that I've had many
- 12:27Speaker 3: times before in my life, where you have to resolve
- 12:30Speaker 3: an issue and you escalate the issue until you get
- 12:32Speaker 3: to somebody who takes care of before you. I mean,
- 12:34Speaker 3: it happens, and it used to happen in almost every business.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I am convinced that that pathway no longer exists, that
- 12:40Speaker 3: it is a complete circle of inactivity until you just
- 12:43Speaker 3: give up. And that's with I'm not talking about little
- 12:45Speaker 3: little rodeo companies. I mean the big guys that there
- 12:48Speaker 3: is no customer service anymore. They've completely removed customer service
- 12:51Speaker 3: from the from their perspective on running businesses, and it's
- 12:56Speaker 3: it's horrible. I mean it is really horrible out there.
- 12:58Speaker 3: If you get mistreated in a service environment with one
- 13:00Speaker 3: of these big companies, you get no results.
- 13:02Speaker 5: That's why I am no longer paperless.
- 13:06Speaker 4: I can see why. Yeah, I want checks and I.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Do not go on where they drafted out on my account.
- 13:11Speaker 5: And you better be careful when you're buying something on
- 13:14Speaker 5: a subscription. Yesterday, Kelly, my secretary, said to me, she said,
- 13:20Speaker 5: we need deal jackets. We'll deal jackets is a pretty
- 13:22Speaker 5: little envelopes got scribbles all over like model making. You know,
- 13:26Speaker 5: that's what we put our deals in. It's how we
- 13:28Speaker 5: track and we filed. We were the listening audience. You
- 13:32Speaker 5: don't go. You know, if I buy your car, that
- 13:34Speaker 5: information goes into a paper jacket, into a lock fil
- 13:38Speaker 5: and that's where it stays. It does not get put
- 13:41Speaker 5: into a web based anything to where it can be hacked.
- 13:44Speaker 5: But where I'm going with this? I said, well, let
- 13:47Speaker 5: me just get on Amazon, and I simply put in
- 13:50Speaker 5: their automotive deal jacket and bang there was there was
- 13:53Speaker 5: a picture of it, and I hit three boxes and
- 13:57Speaker 5: went over to check out. And I've never seen this
- 13:59Speaker 5: on face or excuse me, on Amazon I experienced yesterday.
- 14:04Speaker 5: It said subscribe. Oh yeah, there you go and check out.
- 14:09Speaker 5: Why almost hit? And I thought, well, because I had
- 14:12Speaker 5: a lower price next to it, exactly, I thought what
- 14:15Speaker 5: subscribe means? So I go backwards and read it. Every
- 14:21Speaker 5: three months, I was going to get a packet of
- 14:25Speaker 5: three deals or a box of three of these deal jackets. Well,
- 14:29Speaker 5: three boxes, I don't know how long it's it gonna
- 14:33Speaker 5: do me. That's three hundred per I mean, it's going
- 14:35Speaker 5: to do me a long time. So I went back.
- 14:39Speaker 5: I paid the upper price, which was not much, maybe
- 14:43Speaker 5: two dollars.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like a five or seven percent disc on
- 14:45Speaker 4: or something like that.
- 14:46Speaker 5: And so I'm gonna get my three boxes. I'm one
- 14:48Speaker 5: and done. But if I was in a hurry, if
- 14:50Speaker 5: I had not seen that word subscribe, now, try to
- 14:54Speaker 5: undo that. Try to undo that. So be careful on
- 14:58Speaker 5: these prices when you go in once again, who's on
- 15:01Speaker 5: the other side of we buy cars Because it is
- 15:05Speaker 5: a great uptick we have tariffs in. It has driven
- 15:08Speaker 5: the car market crazy because Americans seem to react, and
- 15:16Speaker 5: they do a knee jerk react to anything good or bad.
- 15:20Speaker 5: So the word tariff came out, March was the best
- 15:24Speaker 5: month of most dealers. If you talk to them, they'll
- 15:26Speaker 5: tell you they just had the best month in years,
- 15:29Speaker 5: maybe of.
- 15:29Speaker 4: All people trying to get cars. Underneath the price increase.
- 15:33Speaker 5: And yes, the auctions, I mean it's up. The wholesale
- 15:37Speaker 5: value goes up. If a wholesale value goes up, the
- 15:40Speaker 5: retail value goes up. If the demand goes up, the
- 15:43Speaker 5: supply goes down, and therefore the price goes up. And
- 15:47Speaker 5: that's how it works. It doesn't matter whether it's eggs.
- 15:50Speaker 5: We'll stalk about eggs and automobiles. You picked the commodity.
- 15:54Speaker 5: You show me a surge of demand, a lowering of supply,
- 16:00Speaker 5: I'm going to show you an increase in price. That's
- 16:03Speaker 5: just how it is. Well, the automobile is not immune
- 16:06Speaker 5: to that. The word tariff created panic, that created activity,
- 16:11Speaker 5: that created sales, that created inventory going down and created
- 16:15Speaker 5: wholesale prices going up. I have it, It's on my phone.
- 16:19Speaker 5: That's just what I was reading in the green room. Now.
- 16:22Speaker 5: I'm not going to share all the percentage. It's probably
- 16:24Speaker 5: Greek to people, but it's the old analysts of supply
- 16:29Speaker 5: and demand that equals the price, and we are right
- 16:33Speaker 5: now in an escalating Now, well how long will last?
- 16:37Speaker 5: I don't know. I saw it happen in twenty one
- 16:39Speaker 5: over COVID. You know, cars got short, prices went crazy.
- 16:43Speaker 5: People went out to bought and guess what they came down.
- 16:47Speaker 5: So I had had lunch with my brother yesterday and
- 16:52Speaker 5: he asked me. He said, it is now a good
- 16:53Speaker 5: time to buy a car, And I said, well, if
- 16:55Speaker 5: you're going to buy one, it probably is because the manufacturers,
- 16:59Speaker 5: especially the American manufacturer, are putting discounts on and are
- 17:03Speaker 5: calling the family or the factory. I think it's the
- 17:09Speaker 5: manufacturer pricing. Danny Jones called me yesterday he was headed
- 17:12Speaker 5: to look at it, maybe probably purchase a car. So
- 17:15Speaker 5: there is a lot of activity going on out there,
- 17:19Speaker 5: and yes, inventories are going to start following the wholesale
- 17:23Speaker 5: end that we see first the public c second think
- 17:28Speaker 5: about it's the most wholesale, the volume is going down,
- 17:32Speaker 5: that prices are going up, so that's going to be
- 17:35Speaker 5: a reflection on tomorrow's prices. I read an article. It's
- 17:40Speaker 5: interesting article. The average age of the American car being
- 17:45Speaker 5: driven today is north of twelve years old. I would
- 17:50Speaker 5: not have guess, nanny.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I would have either, because, frankly, the manufacturers have done
- 17:53Speaker 3: everything possible to keep this amazing technology that we have
- 17:57Speaker 3: that if we really tried, we keep cars on the
- 18:00Speaker 3: road for almost forever. Frankly, if we really if automatic
- 18:04Speaker 3: manufacturers really wanted to make that car, but it's not
- 18:07Speaker 3: in their best interest to make that car.
- 18:09Speaker 5: The average loan coming out the door today on a
- 18:13Speaker 5: new car is eighty four months.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Eighty four, eighty four, It used to be sixty.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Used to be the mix with a payment of nearing
- 18:20Speaker 5: eight hundred dollars. Now you start doing.
- 18:22Speaker 4: A mortgage payment. Man, I did mortgagees for years. That's
- 18:24Speaker 4: a mortgage payment.
- 18:25Speaker 5: So they better last, you know. Remember, I'm John Q.
- 18:30Speaker 5: Public Also I am an individual. I have a thirteen
- 18:33Speaker 5: to dollar just like Jeff has. And I bought it
- 18:36Speaker 5: a new so it's a thirteen. This is twenty five.
- 18:39Speaker 5: It's twelve years old. So there we go. I'm driving
- 18:43Speaker 5: my farm truck because I'm leaving here going to my farm.
- 18:46Speaker 5: It's sitting in your parking lot. It has one hundred
- 18:48Speaker 5: and eighty thousand miles where it's seventeen ford. That's my
- 18:51Speaker 5: farm truck. So they'll run if you take care of
- 18:54Speaker 5: But if you misuse them, you know, you don't change
- 18:56Speaker 5: it all. You don't do the maintenance of When you
- 18:59Speaker 5: hear something that's doesn't sound quite right, if you don't
- 19:02Speaker 5: address the issue, it's probably not right and it's going
- 19:04Speaker 5: to create more problems. So stay on top of these
- 19:08Speaker 5: vehicles are very expensive.
- 19:10Speaker 2: As to day.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Monday, I believe or Tuesday, we cleaned up a Mercedes
- 19:17Speaker 5: that I've warehoused about all winter. I bought it during
- 19:20Speaker 5: a snow storm. I was telling Fred. I mean I
- 19:23Speaker 5: shoved a foot of snow off it and bought it.
- 19:24Speaker 5: It's a very attractive car. If you see my Facebook page,
- 19:27Speaker 5: you'll sit I am over and all. I said, ready
- 19:31Speaker 5: for the auction Friday, and that's it, and did a
- 19:33Speaker 5: video of it. I am amazed with the comments people
- 19:37Speaker 5: who's reached out to me. You know, if I was
- 19:39Speaker 5: back in selling cars, I have to say no, no, no,
- 19:41Speaker 5: this is Abby, this is Dobby, but coming back wanting
- 19:46Speaker 5: to deal on that small one on one because they
- 19:49Speaker 5: knew me. And the same as we buy cars, everybody
- 19:54Speaker 5: is advertising we buy cars. I mean, there was a
- 19:57Speaker 5: gentleman in the last week. He showed me where he
- 20:01Speaker 5: was have a text correspondence with some bitey and he
- 20:04Speaker 5: showed me the dot com. I'd never heard of it,
- 20:07Speaker 5: and I said, well, if you got that offer, I'm
- 20:11Speaker 5: going to tell you go get it, because I'm here,
- 20:14Speaker 5: my checkbook's there, and here's my offer. We can do
- 20:17Speaker 5: it right now. But it's not as much as that offer.
- 20:21Speaker 5: So if you can get that, I you know, go
- 20:23Speaker 5: get it. But the people the gentleman I'm seeing tomorrow,
- 20:27Speaker 5: he doesn't want to go down at internet. He knows
- 20:29Speaker 5: me because I've sold him in cars. I'm going to
- 20:31Speaker 5: meet him at a house and we're probably going to
- 20:34Speaker 5: make this transaction happen. That's where I come in at
- 20:38Speaker 5: When you walk out this parking lot where you are
- 20:41Speaker 5: parked and I am parked. If you walk across that alley,
- 20:43Speaker 5: there's a law firm right there. I won't mention his name,
- 20:46Speaker 5: but there's a law firm right there. Well, his vehicle
- 20:49Speaker 5: is now sitting in my warehouse because he sold it
- 20:52Speaker 5: to me. Very professional felaw didn't want to go through
- 20:55Speaker 5: all this was referred. I mean they said, well just
- 20:59Speaker 5: take it, he'll buy, you know, And I hadn't seen
- 21:01Speaker 5: him in ten years. He pulled in. I said, is
- 21:04Speaker 5: that you Bill? And he says, is that you Larry?
- 21:06Speaker 5: And I mean we just went back ten years, instantly
- 21:08Speaker 5: started talking. That's my clientele, and that's who I deal with.
- 21:13Speaker 5: If you're chasing this internet and you just passed me by,
- 21:16Speaker 5: if you want that one on one in reality where
- 21:19Speaker 5: we shake hands and we do it. You know, I'm
- 21:22Speaker 5: always pretty close. Sometimes I'm higher, sometimes I'm less. But
- 21:26Speaker 5: I will return your call. And if there's a situation
- 21:29Speaker 5: such as the last one that I bought a month ago,
- 21:32Speaker 5: professional gentleman in this town, I'm not going to mention
- 21:35Speaker 5: his name. He left his garage door opener over his Sundvisor.
- 21:40Speaker 5: Do you know if you sold her at dot com
- 21:42Speaker 5: or we buy or we're gonna pay you too much?
- 21:45Speaker 5: That hit the trash case?
- 21:46Speaker 4: Oh for sure.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Guess where I was the next morning.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Taking a bath.
- 21:50Speaker 5: And then he texted me or called me I don't
- 21:54Speaker 5: recall and said, hey, I got a letter where there's
- 21:56Speaker 5: an open recall. He was concerned about it was no
- 21:58Speaker 5: longer his vehical. Oh wow, I said, I will take
- 22:01Speaker 5: care of it. I took care of the recall and
- 22:05Speaker 5: send him the copy of the recall. Now you go
- 22:07Speaker 5: that dot com cap thing, you see, if they'll do that.
- 22:09Speaker 4: For Yeah, there's no way, and there's no way. Let's
- 22:12Speaker 4: do this.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Let's go ahead and take a break. If you want
- 22:13Speaker 3: to get in and talk to Larry a little bit

- 23:45Speaker 3: I'm delpe, but thanks for tuning in on this Wednesday afternoon.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Wednesday morning is sunny looking outside, still a little chilly today.
- 23:53Speaker 3: It's going to be a lot like yesterday was I think,
- 23:55Speaker 3: where it's going to look warmer outside than what it was.
- 23:57Speaker 3: But frankly, the sun was enough for me. The sun
- 24:00Speaker 3: was enough for me. Actually, I wanted to bring up
- 24:01Speaker 3: to you, Larry. You celebrate your hometown of nitroil a lot,
- 24:06Speaker 3: and I thought it was super neat this past weekend.
- 24:09Speaker 3: You know, I'm a huge baseball fan, and it was
- 24:11Speaker 3: super neat that the mayor and the city of Nitro,
- 24:14Speaker 3: Joe Stevens, I think, led the charge with the thing,
- 24:16Speaker 3: brought George Foster in to do signings and had a
- 24:21Speaker 3: baseball day in Nitro, West Virginia, and it was all
- 24:24Speaker 3: celebrating Little League baseball mostly, but was it reminded me
- 24:27Speaker 3: so much, frankly of something from like the nineteen fifties
- 24:30Speaker 3: or the nineteen sixties. And then this morning when I
- 24:33Speaker 3: was driving him to work, Chris Lawrence was wrapping up
- 24:35Speaker 3: his entertainment report and he was paying tribute to Hal Ketchum.
- 24:39Speaker 4: It was his death anniversary, I believe.
- 24:41Speaker 3: And so that's all song small Town on Saturday Night,
- 24:44Speaker 3: one of my favorite songs growing up when I was
- 24:45Speaker 3: a kid, and just those things like kinda just all
- 24:49Speaker 3: clicked into place with me, what a wonderful time. Unfortunately
- 24:52Speaker 3: I had some family things going on this weekend. I
- 24:53Speaker 3: really wanted to get over to Nitro for the George
- 24:55Speaker 3: Foster event. But what a wonderful small town thing to have.
- 25:00Speaker 3: It's seriously as American as apple pie. I mean, it's baseball.
- 25:04Speaker 3: It was a nice day. You had a baseball star
- 25:07Speaker 3: coming in. You're a funding little league. That's a great thing.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Nitro is full of small entrepreneur where look like the
- 25:15Speaker 5: little entrepreneur city. I'm still part of it. We had
- 25:18Speaker 5: a board meeting yesterday evening. Everybody's setting in there is
- 25:22Speaker 5: involved in Nitro. In the business people, it reflects upon
- 25:28Speaker 5: the display of their goods or product. I've got a
- 25:32Speaker 5: very good friend, actually, both of them across the street.
- 25:36Speaker 5: One's up the street. One of them is the name
- 25:38Speaker 5: is Roy Lions. Roy owns lines Heating cooling. And Roy
- 25:42Speaker 5: is in my phone contact where I can call. And
- 25:46Speaker 5: it's very nice to have that contact that you can
- 25:51Speaker 5: avoid all the push this button, go to level appointment.
- 25:56Speaker 5: You know, you can talk to the man and when
- 25:59Speaker 5: we have a problem with HVAC or like my little
- 26:03Speaker 5: brother's doing work, you can call Roy. And Roy has
- 26:06Speaker 5: went way beyond. Let's see the boundaries of what you expect.
- 26:11Speaker 5: Also across the street in the commercial HVAC business is
- 26:15Speaker 5: my dear friend Mark Sanders Statewide equipment has been there forever.
- 26:20Speaker 5: And Mark, he does a lot of building. I just
- 26:22Speaker 5: owned a little bit of property, and you know, I
- 26:24Speaker 5: tinker with it. Well, the other day some flashing on
- 26:27Speaker 5: one of my buildings had raced up with this wind.
- 26:31Speaker 5: I noticed it. Well, that would require really high ladder
- 26:36Speaker 5: and some tap cons and some silicone and you know
- 26:39Speaker 5: things that it's not in my wheelhouse. Walked right across
- 26:43Speaker 5: the street. I said, Mark, I got a little situation.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Look across the street and got that flat. He said,
- 26:48Speaker 5: I'll take care of it. Within an hour, he pulled
- 26:51Speaker 5: two men off a job was there doing it. I mean,
- 26:55Speaker 5: and not for money, that's what. But when Mark needs
- 26:59Speaker 5: something once something, maybe needs some advice, and he'll call me, Hey, Bob,
- 27:04Speaker 5: what about this truck? Because he called me last month
- 27:06Speaker 5: and I saw that truck on Facebook and I thought
- 27:08Speaker 5: it was a goodbye, And I said, are you talking
- 27:10Speaker 5: about that? I mentioned a guy's name.
- 27:12Speaker 4: He said, yeah, how'd you know?
- 27:13Speaker 5: And I said, well that's now. Now you're in my
- 27:15Speaker 5: Rina and I said, that's a goodbye. That's a good price,
- 27:17Speaker 5: nunt car And I said, I know that fella. You
- 27:20Speaker 5: know that fella. I said, I'd go by. Chuck Boggs
- 27:23Speaker 5: has the real estate coming. He and his son, you
- 27:26Speaker 5: know the East building Nitro. He does a lot of
- 27:28Speaker 5: building as well as as Chuck. I sold a piece
- 27:31Speaker 5: of property to a fireman and he's going to build
- 27:34Speaker 5: townhouses on it. And I see that happening all over Nitro.
- 27:38Speaker 5: By structure, we're tearing it down. We're offering a bike
- 27:41Speaker 5: for sale, trying to bring business in and that's what
- 27:45Speaker 5: we want, you know. And I just picked one. When
- 27:48Speaker 5: I didn't pick one. I picked Roy and picked Mark
- 27:50Speaker 5: and Chuck. But up to the deal family, shema, I
- 27:53Speaker 5: mean the list goes on in nord Nor. I mean,
- 27:55Speaker 5: we could spend a week of shows talking about Nitro
- 27:59Speaker 5: and the entrepreneur and most of them are small shingles
- 28:02Speaker 5: and we need you out there. Yes, you can go
- 28:04Speaker 5: to the big dot com and you can get to
- 28:06Speaker 5: instant gratification or you can get to service. Which one
- 28:10Speaker 5: do you want to pay for? Because I tell you
- 28:13Speaker 5: I hear war stories too. I think that after all
- 28:16Speaker 5: these years if you allowed me to come to this station.
- 28:19Speaker 5: People finds it rather easy to contact me and talk
- 28:22Speaker 5: to me, and not always isn't a good story. They'll
- 28:25Speaker 5: call and say, hey, I feel like I can talk
- 28:27Speaker 5: to you and I need some advice. And as we
- 28:30Speaker 5: go through this, it's normally not a good story. But
- 28:33Speaker 5: you may tell you what's attached to a good price, because.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Nobody chase the bad price?
- 28:39Speaker 5: Right? What you do that for?
- 28:41Speaker 7: Well?
- 28:41Speaker 5: The price? Well the price. One last story, and I
- 28:45Speaker 5: know we're getting short on time. A friend of mine
- 28:47Speaker 5: does exactly what I do, and he's retiring. He may
- 28:50Speaker 5: be retired this week. Started his business in nineteen eighty seven,
- 28:54Speaker 5: exact same business in Harrison County. He's selling, he's stepping down.
- 28:59Speaker 5: He's two or three years older me. We meet at
- 29:01Speaker 5: snowshoe every year. Great guy run parallel businesses. He was
- 29:06Speaker 5: telling me a week ago he had a customer come
- 29:10Speaker 5: in just like I would back when I was doing it.
- 29:13Speaker 5: They did not have vehicle, found the vehicle for him
- 29:16Speaker 5: or in line three or four states away, called a dealer,
- 29:20Speaker 5: told that you know they were a dealer. They would
- 29:22Speaker 5: like to purchase on a wholesale that they had a customer,
- 29:25Speaker 5: and he gave him a price. Now their customers sitting
- 29:29Speaker 5: there watching this, saw the name of the dealer a
- 29:33Speaker 5: few stakes over. They caught why they would do that.
- 29:37Speaker 5: This is not respectful. So they called the dealer and said, hey,
- 29:43Speaker 5: I'm the guy that what's my price? They priced it
- 29:47Speaker 5: to them for less follow the story, price it to
- 29:51Speaker 5: them for less than they parked it priced it to
- 29:55Speaker 5: my friend. So if they go back to my friend's store,
- 29:59Speaker 5: I'm going to leave them names out of it and say, hey,
- 30:01Speaker 5: what's up with this? You know you got this price
- 30:04Speaker 5: that's higher than what they'll set up to me for.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Mark said, well, you know, you might as well go
- 30:10Speaker 5: by it, because I do not know. I can only
- 30:12Speaker 5: tell you what they told me. And you saw that.
- 30:15Speaker 5: He said, Before you go and do that and you
- 30:17Speaker 5: drive four states over, ask them to send you a
- 30:21Speaker 5: bill of seal with the bottom line with what you're
- 30:25Speaker 5: writing to check for it was two thousand dollars higher.
- 30:30Speaker 5: Cool with their fees. See West Virginia were capped with
- 30:33Speaker 5: a dog feed. A lot of states aren't capped with it,
- 30:38Speaker 5: and so what they were trying to do was kill
- 30:40Speaker 5: the deal here, have him drive four or five states
- 30:43Speaker 5: over and then surprise it. And that's what I tell
- 30:47Speaker 5: don't chase that price, chase that service. And if you
- 30:51Speaker 5: want to talk to me about it, call me. I mean,
- 30:53Speaker 5: I'll walk you through it. I do it almost every day.
- 30:55Speaker 5: I'll help people. Danny called me yesterday for some advice
- 30:58Speaker 5: and I said, Danny, it's it sounds like a good,
- 31:01Speaker 5: good deal, and I know who you're dealing with. I mean,
- 31:02Speaker 5: there's a great car too, so you know, go bye.
- 31:06Speaker 5: I have nothing in this, but if I can share
- 31:09Speaker 5: something with you and that will help you, then someone's
- 31:12Speaker 5: got a car for sale and who they refer just
- 31:16Speaker 5: like probably daily. I get. It's not off me advertising
- 31:21Speaker 5: because I don't have an advertising budget. I have me.
- 31:25Speaker 5: I don't have a staff of anybody. I've had me
- 31:28Speaker 5: and that's all I've got to stand on is what
- 31:30Speaker 5: I have done in the past and what I'm going
- 31:32Speaker 5: to do in the future.
- 31:34Speaker 3: That's a great information as always with Larr Dawson from
- 31:36Speaker 3: La Dawson's Auto Sells. And it's stories like that unfortunately
- 31:39Speaker 3: are just becoming call you know. Yes, it's hard to
- 31:43Speaker 3: find a relationship you can trust. And it reminds me
- 31:45Speaker 3: a lot of I've talked before about the years ago,
- 31:47Speaker 3: in the late nineties early two thousands, I did mortgages
- 31:50Speaker 3: right in the period of time when mortgages were super high,
- 31:53Speaker 3: and this same issue would come up.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Then.
- 31:55Speaker 3: I think there's maybe been some regulations putting into place
- 31:57Speaker 3: now where you can't do that. But it used to
- 31:58Speaker 3: be there was only so much you could charge on interest,
- 32:00Speaker 3: only so much you could charge on origination fees. But
- 32:02Speaker 3: old boy, the prep fees, you know, the dock fees,
- 32:05Speaker 3: the title transfer, you know, all these different fees that
- 32:07Speaker 3: you could charge. It was to the point where our company,
- 32:09Speaker 3: this was back when people still bought yellow paper, yellow pages,
- 32:12Speaker 3: ads and stuff, and those meant something. You know, it
- 32:15Speaker 3: was so important to our business model that we put
- 32:18Speaker 3: like one hundred dollars closing fee or something like we
- 32:21Speaker 3: would put like doc fees one hundred dollars, you know,
- 32:23Speaker 3: like we basically just used it to pay our staff
- 32:26Speaker 3: and that was it. We didn't have any other overhead
- 32:27Speaker 3: on it. We and we promoted that because so many
- 32:29Speaker 3: other companies would be out there floating like a lower
- 32:33Speaker 3: origination fee, for example than US. I word, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 32:37Speaker 3: they would they would quote a lower origination fee. But
- 32:39Speaker 3: then they would turn around and charge them a thousand
- 32:41Speaker 3: dollars doc preparation fee at closing, and they wouldn't see that,
- 32:44Speaker 3: or they would skip over it on the GFE before closing.
- 32:46Speaker 3: They would get at the title office, it'd be like,
- 32:48Speaker 3: what is this, that's your dock fee? Is the person
- 32:50Speaker 3: going to walk away from the deal? Or hey, they
- 32:52Speaker 3: did all the work, it's right there in front of them,
- 32:53Speaker 3: or they want to go through all of it again, etceteraceter.
- 32:55Speaker 5: They just signed the deal and they got an equity
- 32:57Speaker 5: checkl Yeah exactly.
- 32:59Speaker 3: It's basically a form of black mail. You know, it's
- 33:00Speaker 3: basically a form of blackmail for it so well, that
- 33:03Speaker 3: was one of our business model was un frankly, it
- 33:04Speaker 3: was very successful because people would come in even if
- 33:06Speaker 3: they had a lower origination fee. I'd be like, my
- 33:08Speaker 3: dog prac fee is one hundred dollars, what's yours? If
- 33:10Speaker 3: they brought in like a GFE, then go line by line,
- 33:12Speaker 3: They're like, oh my goodness, that's fifteen hundred dollars.
- 33:14Speaker 5: It's like, not everybody can read a closing sting.
- 33:17Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, you can't. You can't, and then you would
- 33:19Speaker 3: have to trust me in that scenario that I'm not
- 33:21Speaker 3: lying to you, that I'm not trying to trick yet.
- 33:22Speaker 5: And not everybody can read a bank contract, That's true.
- 33:24Speaker 5: They look at one thing payment, they don't see what
- 33:28Speaker 5: made that payment. And I tell people, slow down, just
- 33:32Speaker 5: look at what you're buying and what's making that payment.
- 33:36Speaker 5: Is it the car or is it items added to that?
- 33:39Speaker 5: So just slow down. That car will be there. You know,
- 33:42Speaker 5: they'll take their time. But I believe that the instant
- 33:45Speaker 5: gratification society we live in, they want it right now.
- 33:50Speaker 5: I see it right now. We come up with some
- 33:51Speaker 5: word called tariff, I don't know. I mean, that hasn't
- 33:54Speaker 5: changed my world. I didn't run out and buy anything.
- 33:57Speaker 5: And I'm seeing you know I read, I read National
- 34:01Speaker 5: public cicasions and you read the same thing. Is you
- 34:04Speaker 5: want to click on anything about automobiles that will tell
- 34:07Speaker 5: you March was a record record record? Why March? What
- 34:13Speaker 5: made March? Now, March is generally good, but why was
- 34:16Speaker 5: it so much better than all the previous marches? The
- 34:20Speaker 5: word tariff that you're afraid you're not gonna phobia, that
- 34:24Speaker 5: you're not going to get so I gotta have it? Now?
- 34:25Speaker 5: Do you really need it. I mean, do you really
- 34:29Speaker 5: have to have it right now? So it's the same
- 34:32Speaker 5: way with selling your car. I mean I've seen strong
- 34:36Speaker 5: clothing going on. All your car is worth more right now.
- 34:38Speaker 5: But your car's worth what your car's worth, you know.
- 34:42Speaker 5: And I'm not trying to sell you anything because I
- 34:44Speaker 5: don't sell cars. I'm just going to buy your car.
- 34:47Speaker 5: I'm gonna do a service, and lots of times it's
- 34:50Speaker 5: one on one, it's at your house. I'm gonna help you.
- 34:53Speaker 5: But if you have to have that instant gratification, I'm
- 34:55Speaker 5: sure you can get on that phone and get it,
- 34:58Speaker 5: but beware because you might want to read over to
- 35:01Speaker 5: the Google over the comments or the blogs of the
- 35:04Speaker 5: war stories where your loan didn't get paid off in time,
- 35:07Speaker 5: you didn't get your equity check and you got a
- 35:09Speaker 5: late payment, and et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. It
- 35:13Speaker 5: happens with me, you get both.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 3: No, I've had people try to scone during recision periods
- 35:19Speaker 3: and all kinds of crazy stuff. Man, I mean, you
- 35:21Speaker 3: never know what happens when.
- 35:22Speaker 5: You get your license plate. I have a license plate
- 35:25Speaker 5: laying on my desk from the company that I bought
- 35:28Speaker 5: a van from that. I removed it and it's laying
- 35:33Speaker 5: there because I want to return that license plate back.
- 35:38Speaker 5: They didn't realize they left a plate on it. I did. Actually,
- 35:42Speaker 5: it was a vehicle that I had a toe in.
- 35:44Speaker 5: It was not operable when I bought it, so I
- 35:46Speaker 5: picked it up, rolled back, brought it in, got it repaired.
- 35:50Speaker 5: Actually I've sold it, but I took the license plate
- 35:52Speaker 5: off it. How many people do that, you know? And
- 35:56Speaker 5: so you got your plate with your identity running around
- 35:59Speaker 5: set up somewhere on a lot three states over. I
- 36:04Speaker 5: coached guy yesterday. I saw he had a vehicle for
- 36:07Speaker 5: sale and it had his license plate on it.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Oh well, he didn't blur it out.
- 36:14Speaker 5: I said, take that picture off. Yeah, you don't realize
- 36:16Speaker 5: what you just did. And he didn't. He took it off,
- 36:19Speaker 5: but he said, I never thought of it.
- 36:20Speaker 4: I'm telling you what.
- 36:21Speaker 3: The scary thing these days we have a minute left.
- 36:23Speaker 3: So this isn't a railroading or show too much. The
- 36:26Speaker 3: scary thing these days is it's not humans that have
- 36:28Speaker 3: to pick up on that information. There's algorithms that will
- 36:30Speaker 3: run and they'll pick up the fact there's a car
- 36:31Speaker 3: in that picture and the fact that there's a license
- 36:33Speaker 3: plate of visible and they will make note of what
- 36:36Speaker 3: that license plate number is. It will get filed into
- 36:37Speaker 3: data somewhere else. That data is not safe. And when
- 36:41Speaker 3: you think about what's happened to our data in the
- 36:42Speaker 3: last several months across different infrastructures and stuff like that,
- 36:46Speaker 3: you start using that to track citizens and things. I mean,
- 36:49Speaker 3: you don't want to get into that space if you
- 36:50Speaker 3: can keep from it.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Well, I did a subcurtesy to him and his family.
- 36:56Speaker 5: I don't know how many dealers would done that. Probably not,
- 36:59Speaker 5: but you know I saw and he was trying it
- 37:01Speaker 5: for seven and yeah, I hope he sells it. Bice
- 37:03Speaker 5: to get that.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Played off there, Yeah, you got it. You gotta get
- 37:05Speaker 4: the played off there.
