- 0:00Speaker 1: Thanks, Mike.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Lane, you come back with a shootout win over Detroit
- 0:04Speaker 2: a couple nights ago. Probably not how you drew it up,
- 0:07Speaker 2: but ultimately you get the two points.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Just take us through.
- 0:10Speaker 2: That game, where you felt the differences were between the
- 0:12Speaker 2: first 40 minutes and then that third period where the
- 0:15Speaker 2: Wings came back with three.
- 0:15Speaker 3: In a row. I think we played very, very well
- 0:19Speaker 3: for a good majority of the game. First two periods
- 0:23Speaker 3: were textbook for me. Didn't really give them anything. I
- 0:27Speaker 3: think they came out of the game with one grade
- 0:30Speaker 3: A chance five on five when it was all said
- 0:32Speaker 3: and done. You know, so that part of it was good. We,
- 0:36Speaker 3: you know, we ran ourselves into, we made a mistake
- 0:40Speaker 3: at three nothing and they scored.
- 0:42Speaker 1: They got a little bit of momentum.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I thought there was a couple of questionable calls. You know,
- 0:47Speaker 3: I went on record as saying that I didn't like them.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And the next thing you know, they're back in the game. So, And,
- 0:54Speaker 3: you know, I prefer to look at the positives. I
- 0:57Speaker 3: would be more concerned if we had come out in
- 1:00Speaker 3: the third period and we were sitting back.
- 1:02Speaker 1: But we weren't. We had two or three opportunities to
- 1:04Speaker 1: make it 4-0. And, you know, I enjoyed that part
- 1:08Speaker 1: of our game.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Do you wish or do you think that there was
- 1:11Speaker 2: something more the Kraken could have done? Obviously, they weren't
- 1:14Speaker 2: sitting back. But did you like that, the way they
- 1:18Speaker 2: played in the third period? Or were you looking for
- 1:19Speaker 2: a little bit more to go get that fourth goal?
- 1:22Speaker 1: Well, no, like I said, at the start of it,
- 1:25Speaker 1: we were good.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I liked it.
- 1:27Speaker 3: And then, you know, once they got a goal, I
- 1:30Speaker 3: thought we started to, you know, they got some momentum
- 1:34Speaker 3: and they started to smell blood a little bit and
- 1:37Speaker 3: I didn't love our response to that.
- 1:39Speaker 1: So that was a good opportunity for us to, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 1: take a lesson and, you know, we turned the page
- 1:45Speaker 1: and here we go tonight.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Brandon Montour, franchise record, career high for him, 30 minutes,
- 1:50Speaker 2: 44 seconds, time on ice. You told me a couple
- 1:52Speaker 2: of games ago that you'd like to maybe not have
- 1:56Speaker 2: to lean on certain pairs for more than 25-ish minutes.
- 2:01Speaker 2: What have you liked about Montour's game? And is there
- 2:04Speaker 2: something more that you're looking for out of your other
- 2:06Speaker 2: defensive pairs to take that pressure off? Or is it
- 2:09Speaker 2: a case-by-case basis where if you have to play a
- 2:11Speaker 2: guy 30 minutes, you're comfortable doing that?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Well, let's be clear.
- 2:15Speaker 3: He's not going to play 30 minutes every night. So
- 2:18Speaker 3: this was a bit of an anomaly. you know, everybody's
- 2:22Speaker 3: talking about it, really not interested in hearing about it anymore.
- 2:26Speaker 3: The bottom line is, is that with Lindgren out, um,
- 2:31Speaker 3: you know, there's some situations that Monty has to play. Uh,
- 2:36Speaker 3: we're working with a couple of defensemen, you know, in
- 2:39Speaker 3: the fifth and sixth hole.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And one guy's played seven or eight games in the league.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And so as a result, uh, that ice time is
- 2:48Speaker 3: limited and somebody has to pick that ice time up.
- 2:51Speaker 3: At the end of the day, we know that Monty
- 2:55Speaker 3: played a lot.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Good for him. He can do that, but certainly we
- 2:58Speaker 1: don't want him doing that every night.
- 3:00Speaker 2: You mentioned this morning that this game is going to
- 3:02Speaker 2: have to be played five on five for a large
- 3:04Speaker 2: majority of it going up against the top power play
- 3:06Speaker 2: in the league in the Utah Mammoth. I guess from
- 3:10Speaker 2: a penalty killer perspective, just how crucial is it going
- 3:12Speaker 2: to be to stay out of the box, but also
- 3:15Speaker 2: Are there things and adjustments in game that you guys
- 3:18Speaker 2: make on the PK when going up against such a
- 3:21Speaker 2: potent power play like Utah?
- 3:23Speaker 3: Well, you know, I mean, certainly we have a plan
- 3:25Speaker 3: in place, you know, for their power play.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You know, at the end of the day, not many
- 3:34Speaker 1: teams have.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Had success against them up until this point.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So they've got a good power play.
- 3:40Speaker 3: They got one more guy than you out there and
- 3:41Speaker 3: they've got some skill and you know, so we just
- 3:44Speaker 3: have to stay out of the box. We have to
- 3:46Speaker 3: do a good job of staying out of the box,
- 3:48Speaker 3: and when we don't, we've got to make sure that
- 3:50Speaker 3: we don't sit back. I think I find with most teams,
- 3:53Speaker 3: and certainly with our team on the penalty kill, you know,
- 3:57Speaker 3: when you get scored on, you have a.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Tendency to, ooh, sit back, and I can't stand that.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I'd rather go down swinging.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Early in the season, these two teams are two of
- 4:07Speaker 2: the more exciting, two of the more offensive teams in
- 4:11Speaker 2: the league. From a fan perspective, it should be a
- 4:13Speaker 2: fun game tonight. What do you want to see from
- 4:15Speaker 2: your group to get two points?
- 4:17Speaker 3: I want to see us play a deep game. And
- 4:19Speaker 3: what I mean by that is we cannot turn the
- 4:22Speaker 3: puck over. If we have an opportunity to carry pucks in, great.
- 4:27Speaker 3: If we don't, get it in behind their D and
- 4:29Speaker 3: make them come 200 feet. We can't afford to feed
- 4:32Speaker 3: into their transition. It's just that plain and simple. Because
- 4:36Speaker 3: if you do, They're really good at entering. They're really
- 4:39Speaker 3: good at making plays off the rush. They have a
- 4:41Speaker 3: very high level of skill, one of the highest in
- 4:43Speaker 3: the league in my opinion. And if you don't
- 4:47Speaker 1: Play the game the right way, they can hurt you.
