- 0:00Speaker 1: This week, we are looking back on some of our
- 0:02Speaker 1: favorite episodes from the past five years in honor of
- 0:04Speaker 1: our five year anniversary. Here on Girls Gone Homemark and
- 0:07Speaker 1: our pick for twenty twenty three is Guiding Emily. Get
- 0:11Speaker 1: your tissues ready, y'all. This one's a good one. This
- 0:14Speaker 1: was a good movie. Sarah Drew is an absolute standout
- 0:19Speaker 1: and has a dog, Garth's. Is that the dog? Same? Yes,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Garth the dog has a really interesting story. People had
- 0:27Speaker 1: a lot of opinions about this movie. We had a
- 0:29Speaker 1: lot of opinions about this movie. Matty Finocchio is the
- 0:33Speaker 1: standout in this movie. So enjoy this throwback review from
- 0:37Speaker 1: Girls Gone Homemark. This is a bramble Jam podcast. Welcome
- 1:01Speaker 1: to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan
- 1:05Speaker 1: and I'm a longtime Hallmark movie fan. I'm Wendy and
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm a former Hallmark hater. Today we're discussing Guy by Emily,
- 1:13Speaker 1: which originally aired on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries channel
- 1:18Speaker 1: on a Friday, September eighth. We love for you to
- 1:22Speaker 1: connect with us. When you're not listening to the podcast,
- 1:25Speaker 1: we're around. You can follow us on Instagram. We're both
- 1:28Speaker 1: talking Girls Gone Hallmark at Girls Gone Hallmark and all
- 1:34Speaker 1: Things Megan and Wendy non Hamewark related at Megan and
- 1:37Speaker 1: Wendy jump into our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group. Lots
- 1:43Speaker 1: of conversation over there this weekend. People had lots to
- 1:46Speaker 1: say about the two new movies as weeme, yess, I
- 1:49Speaker 1: loved it so much. Before we talk about this movie,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I just have one little Hallmark news and note, oh,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I have one too. Okay, go ahead, you go first.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Hallmark actors Marco Grizzini and Alvina August welcome to Baby
- 2:05Speaker 1: Girl together recently, Oh, Marco, he played the chef in
- 2:10Speaker 1: that movie. Yeah, okay, right in front of me. Is
- 2:14Speaker 1: that what you're saying of? Yes, who was also recently
- 2:17Speaker 1: on Hearts in the Game. He also has a recurring
- 2:19Speaker 1: role on Virgin River. Alvina August has only been in
- 2:24Speaker 1: one Hallmark movie as far as I can tell, and
- 2:27Speaker 1: it is a Second Chance at Love. And she's also
- 2:32Speaker 1: had roles on The Good Doctor. Zoh. He's extraordinary playlist
- 2:36Speaker 1: a TV series called Animal Control, Yes, starring Joel McHale.
- 2:41Speaker 1: No idea who this person is, but I'm happy for them. Congratulations, Congratulations,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I have a note. It might be a little bit old,
- 2:49Speaker 1: but to Andy McDowell, who we know as what's her
- 2:52Speaker 1: name on the show Dell on the Way Home, Honestly,
- 2:56Speaker 1: last week I could not remember the name of the
- 2:58Speaker 1: Way Home. I was like, I'm losing my mind literally Anyway,
- 3:03Speaker 1: She recently quit Instagram, declaring that she's quote tired of
- 3:08Speaker 1: the world. Of course, this was after the wedding of
- 3:11Speaker 1: her daughter Margaret Qually and Jack Antonov and the mob
- 3:16Speaker 1: that showed up to creep on guest Taylor Swift. That
- 3:20Speaker 1: was real ugly. I know. I was very disappointed in
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Swifties who created such a scene for that wedding, right, like,
- 3:27Speaker 1: let her go to this wedding, Let people have their day. Yes,
- 3:31Speaker 1: what my question is in your mind? Like You're the
- 3:35Speaker 1: person waiting outside that wedding, I'm the swift waiting to
- 3:40Speaker 1: see its gonna be like, oh my gosh, thank you
- 3:42Speaker 1: for being here, be my new best friend. How is
- 3:45Speaker 1: that going to endear you to her? You think she's
- 3:47Speaker 1: gonna take a picture of you never You just want
- 3:50Speaker 1: to catch a glimpse from far away after being hustled
- 3:52Speaker 1: into a car. I don't understand the motivation there. I'm
- 3:54Speaker 1: gonna be honest. So if you were the mother of
- 3:58Speaker 1: the bride, would you be pissed off at the world.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I'd be pissed. If I'm gonna meet a famous person,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I want it to be organic.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Oh.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I want to run into that person on the street
- 4:07Speaker 1: and strike up a conversation. Like when you're dropping your
- 4:09Speaker 1: dog off at doggy daycare and there's a super famous
- 4:12Speaker 1: person who shares it's not doggie daycare, it's training. Okay,
- 4:16Speaker 1: but yes, my trainer also trains a dog of a
- 4:20Speaker 1: I guarantee every single person listening this is really really
- 4:23Speaker 1: the demo for that person. I'm not going to out them,
- 4:25Speaker 1: but would be like, oh my gosh, like better than tea.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I was too, and immediately got in to make sure
- 4:33Speaker 1: that it was in fact that person. So for me,
- 4:36Speaker 1: that's an interaction that I'm excited about, right because we're
- 4:38Speaker 1: on an equal playing field, got it. I'm not like,
- 4:43Speaker 1: please say hi to me and meet me and make
- 4:45Speaker 1: me feel good, because I feel like sometimes as lovely
- 4:49Speaker 1: as I think people are, I would worry the entire
- 4:52Speaker 1: time that that interaction that I'm having in a meet
- 4:55Speaker 1: and greet scenario isn't genuine Well, because you've paid for
- 4:59Speaker 1: it now, Okay, but let me put you in this position.
- 5:02Speaker 1: You and I are doing a podcast tour and we
- 5:05Speaker 1: offer a view I ticket put it in the universe, Wendy. Okay,
- 5:10Speaker 1: go ahead, it's gonna happen, and we've offered a VIP
- 5:13Speaker 1: like meet and great options so people can which happens
- 5:16Speaker 1: I do that? Yeah, I would genuinely be excited to
- 5:20Speaker 1: meet anybody who was a listener of the show. So
- 5:23Speaker 1: would I. But why do I assume that someone else
- 5:26Speaker 1: meeting a fan of theirs wouldn't be excited about that?
- 5:30Speaker 1: I don't know. Hey, Before we move on to our
- 5:34Speaker 1: review of Guiding Emily, can we talk just quickly about
- 5:40Speaker 1: a podcast review that we recently received.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Oh?
- 5:43Speaker 1: Sure, for me to pull it up.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:46Speaker 1: First, I want to say thank you to those who
- 5:48Speaker 1: have left reviews. We need them, we love them. They
- 5:53Speaker 1: help us tremendously. We compliment sandwich this. Can we read
- 5:56Speaker 1: a recent positive review? Yes, this is from listener Missy Faye,
- 6:00Speaker 1: who says love listening to you guys. Every time I'm
- 6:02Speaker 1: in the car, I plug in and Missy Fay, we
- 6:05Speaker 1: love that. Thank you. So why don't you read the
- 6:08Speaker 1: review that wasn't so great two stars? How do you
- 6:12Speaker 1: do a movie podcast with no recap? They want to
- 6:15Speaker 1: talk about movies without a recap, about what even happens
- 6:17Speaker 1: in said movie. I'm so confused. I guess I have
- 6:20Speaker 1: to watch the movie first to be able to even
- 6:22Speaker 1: know what they're talking about. I just want to make
- 6:25Speaker 1: it clear that we do not recap these movies. Correct.
- 6:29Speaker 1: This is not a recap podcast. We review the movies.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We always tell you what movie we're reviewing. We give
- 6:38Speaker 1: a synopsis of the movie. It is highly suggested you
- 6:44Speaker 1: watch the movie before you listen to her, or maybe
- 6:47Speaker 1: our review will make you want to watch the movie.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But it's not a recap. It's not a long form
- 6:54Speaker 1: synopsis of the movie. But we do talk about what
- 6:58Speaker 1: the movie is about, right. I think that's pretty typical
- 7:01Speaker 1: for reviews to talk about the things they liked and
- 7:04Speaker 1: the things that they didn't, but to not we're not
- 7:07Speaker 1: going moment by moment. Yeah we're not. That's that's not
- 7:10Speaker 1: our podcast. That's not our podcast. Yeah, and that's okay.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I know. So if you'd like to flood us with
- 7:16Speaker 1: reviews to bump up that rating, because you know those
- 7:19Speaker 1: two stars are real painful. I know. Let's hear a
- 7:22Speaker 1: synopsis of Guiding Emily. Yes. This movie follows Emily as
- 7:26Speaker 1: she struggles to cope with her new reality after losing
- 7:30Speaker 1: her sight, and Garth, a potential guide dog, struggling with
- 7:34Speaker 1: his training. With a bit of help, both make headway
- 7:37Speaker 1: in their important transitions. Guiding Emily was filmed in and
- 7:42Speaker 1: around Vancouver, Canada, as well as in Victoria. Beautiful filming locations.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So freaking pretty. And you love Emily's house. Oh I
- 7:51Speaker 1: have Mom's house. Oh please take me there, like I
- 7:55Speaker 1: want to retire there, the garden, I sit on that porch,
- 8:01Speaker 1: put me in front of that lake, like so pretty.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It was gorgeous, so so pretty. Whoever lives in that
- 8:08Speaker 1: real life house, I'm envious. This movie was based on
- 8:13Speaker 1: the novel of the same name by author Barbara Hensky.
- 8:18Speaker 1: It's also one of four in the series Nice. The
- 8:22Speaker 1: guy Dog. Garth was played by Dog Owen, who is
- 8:25Speaker 1: in found training to be a guy dog himself. Listen,
- 8:28Speaker 1: how cute is the name Garth for dog? So cute?
- 8:31Speaker 1: I was like, if we get a boy dog, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: love the name Garth. That's a great name Garth Brooks. Yeah,
- 8:37Speaker 1: that's a great name, and they're not going to be
- 8:39Speaker 1: one of many Garths at the Vet. Yes, like my
- 8:43Speaker 1: dogs definitely are not the only Bailey and Coopers of
- 8:45Speaker 1: the Vet. Roxy and Penny, Yeah exactly. Yeah, I know
- 8:49Speaker 1: two other Pennies in my neighborhood alone. Sarah Drew plays Emily.
- 8:54Speaker 1: She has forty nine acting credits, including a long running
- 8:57Speaker 1: role as April Kepner on Ray's Anatomy, a show I
- 9:02Speaker 1: have not watched in twenty years. She previously starred in
- 9:06Speaker 1: Christmas in Vienna on Hallmark. Antonio Coopo plays best friend Matthew.
- 9:11Speaker 1: He has seventy four acting credits, including a role on
- 9:13Speaker 1: Unreal Bingo as well as Hallmark movies Love the Thanksgiving
- 9:17Speaker 1: Day Parade, Garage Sale, Mysteries, A Glenn Brook Christmas, Christmas
- 9:20Speaker 1: at the Golden Dragon, and A winning Team. You know
- 9:24Speaker 1: what I think about when I see the title, A
- 9:26Speaker 1: winning team, don't you? Okay, I'm not even not even
- 9:29Speaker 1: mentioning it. Moving on. Eric McCormick, best known as Will
- 9:33Speaker 1: Truman from Will and Grace, has seventy nine acting credits
- 9:35Speaker 1: and voices the Dog of Garth. The screenplay was written
- 9:39Speaker 1: by Betsy Morris Wes nine acting credits, including the Wedding
- 9:42Speaker 1: Veil Inspiration from earlier in twenty twenty three, as well
- 9:46Speaker 1: as A Kids Met Christmas and snow Coming. Okay, here's
- 9:49Speaker 1: my question for you. Well, first of all, I asked
- 9:52Speaker 1: you earlier off Mike. Did we enjoy the wedding veil inspiration? Yeah,
- 9:58Speaker 1: that's yes, we did. I don't think we didn't like
- 10:01Speaker 1: any of them. No, I don't think so either. It
- 10:03Speaker 1: was the Autumn Racer Round two. In the round two,
- 10:08Speaker 1: it's so hard to explain. And I watched a Chismic
- 10:12Speaker 1: Christmas last year enjoyed it too. Snow Comming is a
- 10:16Speaker 1: movie I'm not familiar with. I'm like, is this a
- 10:18Speaker 1: play on like Homecoming? I believe? So ya? Oh okay.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Director Andy Mikita has thirty two directing credits, including episodes
- 10:27Speaker 1: of Hallmark series Cedar Cove, The Good Witch, and Chesapeake Shores,
- 10:32Speaker 1: as well as Virgin River on Netflix. I feel like
- 10:35Speaker 1: Virgin River needs to be added to our bingo card
- 10:38Speaker 1: now because I think so too, there's some huge crossover
- 10:40Speaker 1: between the two. We need to do a news and
- 10:43Speaker 1: notes bingo card. Okay, Hey, Peter Benson, another busy actor,
- 10:47Speaker 1: plays dog trainer Mark. This is another actor who gets
- 10:51Speaker 1: the best friend energy treatment. Matti Finocchio plays coworker hero
- 10:57Speaker 1: Drew and with one hundred acting credits. This guy deserves
- 11:01Speaker 1: a leading role in a Homewark movie. Give it to me.
- 11:05Speaker 1: You know he uh shared our Instagram recently. You know,
- 11:11Speaker 1: I was like, give this guy leading role and it
- 11:13Speaker 1: was he re shared it with like praying hands. I
- 11:17Speaker 1: love him. I love him. Mate. Toby Levins plays dead
- 11:22Speaker 1: fiance Connor and has appeared in both Unreal and Once
- 11:25Speaker 1: Upon a Time, as well as a ton of homework
- 11:26Speaker 1: supporting actor roles. It's time for first impressions. Okay, okay,
- 11:41Speaker 1: I have a video. I have a well it's given
- 11:43Speaker 1: me an audio clip. Here can I play it? Yeah?
- 11:46Speaker 1: This is it's a deep cut. I really don't know
- 11:49Speaker 1: if many people are gonna get it, but here it goes.
- 11:55Speaker 1: In terms of endearment, Shirley McClain one of the best
- 11:58Speaker 1: scenes ever. But I thought that Emily's mom was giving
- 12:02Speaker 1: Shirley McLain energy in this movie. Yeah, because Connor was
- 12:08Speaker 1: such a dipshit. She's like for six hours. Yes, I
- 12:12Speaker 1: just thought, like I thought there was some parallel, parallel energy.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Nice.
- 12:18Speaker 1: My first impression is but one word, and it is redemption.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Totally tale.
- 12:24Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about what we liked. Well, I
- 12:28Speaker 1: just love so much about this movie. Let's just put
- 12:30Speaker 1: it out there. But I'm going to start at the beginning.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I loved the relationship between the woman who raised Garth
- 12:35Speaker 1: and baby puppy Garth and when oh she said goodbye Cry. Okay,
- 12:42Speaker 1: that tracks because you were training a puppy right now.
- 12:47Speaker 1: You found that very relatable, I'm guessing yeah, except that
- 12:51Speaker 1: dog is way better behaved than my dog. You mean,
- 12:54Speaker 1: you wouldn't take your dog into a restaurant and be
- 12:56Speaker 1: like down under under the table. Yet I see dogs
- 13:01Speaker 1: at home deepot, and I'm like, Nope, we're not there yet.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Someday we're not there yet. You will, You'll get there someday.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Speaking of I very much like this movie too. While
- 13:11Speaker 1: I was watching it, I texted Megan. I was like,
- 13:13Speaker 1: have you watched Guiding Emily yet? It's so good. Usually
- 13:17Speaker 1: we don't do a lot of that. Sometimes I'll text
- 13:20Speaker 1: you and be like this is real bad or this,
- 13:22Speaker 1: but this one was really good. And this is what
- 13:25Speaker 1: I liked so much about it. When Garth says this
- 13:29Speaker 1: is the last time she'll see me, it set up
- 13:33Speaker 1: such good suspense for me because it tells the audience
- 13:37Speaker 1: Emily's gonna lose her sight at some point, but we
- 13:39Speaker 1: don't know how or when it's going to happen. So
- 13:43Speaker 1: for every like scene after that, there's like a car ride,
- 13:46Speaker 1: She's crossing the street like, I'm like, how's it gonna happen?
- 13:49Speaker 1: How's it gonna happen? And then spoiler alert if you
- 13:53Speaker 1: haven't watched the movie, skip right through this part when
- 13:56Speaker 1: the rock falls and hits her in the head. I gash,
- 14:01Speaker 1: like this, I did this. It was so good. I agree,
- 14:06Speaker 1: I agree, it was so good. Look, we just touched
- 14:10Speaker 1: on this. I loved Mattie Finocchio's best friend energy in
- 14:14Speaker 1: this movie. And while I want to see him play
- 14:16Speaker 1: the lead in the main love interest, he just shone
- 14:20Speaker 1: in this movie the way he showed up for Emily.
- 14:23Speaker 1: He had these like kind of funny comedic moments, but
- 14:26Speaker 1: he also was like this rock behind her, and he
- 14:28Speaker 1: was like, we're gonna kind of push you along the
- 14:30Speaker 1: way and step back when it's time, but we're not
- 14:33Speaker 1: gonna let you just crawl into a hole and give
- 14:38Speaker 1: up on the line, that's the kind of friend you want. Yes,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I loved it. And then he makes an app that
- 14:44Speaker 1: you can hear the scratch, the sound of crossing something
- 14:48Speaker 1: off your to do list. I knew you would love it,
- 14:50Speaker 1: as I did.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Love that.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I love him. I thought Sarah Drew was incredible. I'm
- 14:58Speaker 1: not familiar with her. When I was looking through her IMDb,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I saw that she had played a mom on the
- 15:06Speaker 1: free Form show Cruel Summer the first season of it,
- 15:10Speaker 1: which is a really good show. Second season didn't like
- 15:13Speaker 1: so much. First season was really good, and I was like, ah,
- 15:15Speaker 1: that's the face. But I thought she was incredible. I
- 15:18Speaker 1: found her so believable. She is a great actor. There
- 15:22Speaker 1: were several scenes that just sent me, let me go
- 15:25Speaker 1: through them, please. When she wakes up in the hospital
- 15:28Speaker 1: room and she's like freaking out a little bit, but
- 15:31Speaker 1: like it is like asking questions, like what happened? When happened?
- 15:33Speaker 1: I thought that was really good. After they take the
- 15:36Speaker 1: bandages off and she still can't see and she's like,
- 15:38Speaker 1: I didn't say anything. I was crying. I don't cry
- 15:43Speaker 1: during Hallmark movies hardly ever. I usually fall asleep. I
- 15:47Speaker 1: did not fall asleep in this one. When her jerk
- 15:50Speaker 1: boyfriend says he's moving to Tokyo and she's like, you
- 15:53Speaker 1: need to leave, like right now? I was like yes.
- 15:56Speaker 1: And even her interactions with the neighbor girls Zoe, like
- 16:01Speaker 1: she's so warm and like sweet to this girl, like
- 16:04Speaker 1: she has just been blinded. She has lots, but she
- 16:09Speaker 1: she's so like offering advice.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, it was just so good.
- 16:15Speaker 1: We mentioned Gray's Anatoy. She was on that show over
- 16:17Speaker 1: ten years, on a dramatic show, getting those acting chops.
- 16:21Speaker 1: She had this storyline on Grey's Anatomy where she was
- 16:25Speaker 1: pregnant with the baby who had a condition that was
- 16:28Speaker 1: not compatible with life. Oh and she played a very
- 16:34Speaker 1: hardcore Christian on that show who didn't believe in abortion
- 16:38Speaker 1: and who didn't and there's this really incredible scene where
- 16:41Speaker 1: she finds out what like that the baby has and
- 16:45Speaker 1: how she's going to have to deliver that baby, and
- 16:47Speaker 1: her mother in law and her husband are with her
- 16:50Speaker 1: and she's like, how am I going to do this?
- 16:51Speaker 1: I saw it on TikTok the other day. Do you
- 16:54Speaker 1: ever see people share like clips of TV shows on TikTok.
- 16:58Speaker 1: It's a weird tid of TikTok to be on because
- 16:59Speaker 1: she'll get like a sixty second clip of a TV
- 17:02Speaker 1: show and you're like, wait, now I need to see more.
- 17:03Speaker 1: And as you've watched it, you'll start getting more clips,
- 17:06Speaker 1: and then I'm like, why don't I just go watch
- 17:07Speaker 1: the show now, I've watched five minutes of the show
- 17:10Speaker 1: via sixty second clips. Anyway, and it was good. She
- 17:14Speaker 1: could scene. She's great. She's great. I'd love to see
- 17:17Speaker 1: her in more Hallmark movies. I wonder if she will
- 17:20Speaker 1: or not. I don't know. I think she could. I
- 17:23Speaker 1: think she's great. I thought Maddie really brought it again
- 17:26Speaker 1: in the comedy. His line, I've watched a lot of
- 17:29Speaker 1: unsolved mysteries and this is always how it starts to
- 17:31Speaker 1: Connor was a real singer to me, speaking of real singers.
- 17:36Speaker 1: The food server who helped her not once but twice
- 17:41Speaker 1: in this movie, when she comes back to the restaurant
- 17:44Speaker 1: she's with Matthew now, the server says like the Kane
- 17:48Speaker 1: isn't the only new upgrade. I was like, I love
- 17:51Speaker 1: the lines in this movie. I loved Lindy. Yes, I
- 17:55Speaker 1: mentioned it earlier loved her mom, Martha played by Christine Willis,
- 18:00Speaker 1: when she just lays into Connor for being like, I
- 18:04Speaker 1: don't want to say that Connor was a jerk. I
- 18:07Speaker 1: actually thought Connor was a really nice guy until like
- 18:10Speaker 1: he couldn't cope. I thought he was a nice guy
- 18:14Speaker 1: until she got hurt. But you don't just get to
- 18:16Speaker 1: be a nice guy for the good part. It's in
- 18:18Speaker 1: sickness and in hell. I agree. He fell down on
- 18:21Speaker 1: the job, as she said. And that's one of the
- 18:25Speaker 1: things I liked about this movie that I often don't
- 18:27Speaker 1: like about movies where they start off in one relationship
- 18:29Speaker 1: and end up in another. I thought they did that
- 18:32Speaker 1: really well. She was all in on that relationship with Connor.
- 18:35Speaker 1: It wasn't like they were a bad match. They clearly
- 18:37Speaker 1: seemed like they were good for each other in a
- 18:39Speaker 1: lot of ways. She was still committed to him, even
- 18:43Speaker 1: once the crack started to show when he seemed to
- 18:46Speaker 1: not be willing to and I want to talk about
- 18:48Speaker 1: this and did you see that? But there were some
- 18:51Speaker 1: signs that he was struggling to do what she needed
- 18:54Speaker 1: him to do. Obviously, one of the most obvious is
- 18:56Speaker 1: when she gets left alone for six hours. What the hell?
- 18:59Speaker 1: Man seriously and walks away from her when she's in
- 19:02Speaker 1: the bathroom. Could you even imagine this phone call is
- 19:06Speaker 1: so important I have to walk outside and leave my
- 19:08Speaker 1: recently blinded girlfriend on her first day out in it. No,
- 19:13Speaker 1: I just it's outrageous. So I thought they handled that
- 19:17Speaker 1: and that relationship was fully wrapped up before she even
- 19:20Speaker 1: began to have feelings. And whether or not she had
- 19:23Speaker 1: feelings for that friend before, it's not set up that way.
- 19:26Speaker 1: It's just she genuinely was her best friend, right, and
- 19:29Speaker 1: she saw him in a different light after the fact.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I thought that was well done. I agree. It wasn't like, oh,
- 19:35Speaker 1: I have this relationship waiting in the wings for me
- 19:37Speaker 1: as my other one falls apart. Yeah, that's what I
- 19:40Speaker 1: was worried about when it started. I was like, oh, no,
- 19:42Speaker 1: Megan's gonna hate this because she's gonna jump relationships. But
- 19:46Speaker 1: I really didn't. I think they did it well. Yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 1: And I also liked that Matthew showed up for her
- 19:53Speaker 1: as a friend and wasn't there with ulterior motives. And
- 19:56Speaker 1: even the first time when they almost kiss, he kind
- 20:00Speaker 1: of like puts that distance between them and to me,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I'm reading more into it, but it felt like he
- 20:06Speaker 1: was not trying to take advantage of this situation, like
- 20:08Speaker 1: I'm here altruistically as your friend, not in the hopes
- 20:12Speaker 1: of getting this reward, so to speak. I really appreciated
- 20:18Speaker 1: that they had cast that included blind actors. Oh yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about that in a minute. Okay.
- 20:24Speaker 1: The other thing is there's some real Wowisowis in this movie, Dude,
- 20:29Speaker 1: I'm not familiar with before this weekend, Antonio Coupo and
- 20:36Speaker 1: Toby Levins who plays Connor, Like I know he was
- 20:39Speaker 1: like not a great character, but I think these men
- 20:42Speaker 1: are quite handsome. Oh, agree, agree, let's talk wish Okay.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I want to go back to the disabilbility elephant in
- 20:52Speaker 1: the room, Okay, and I just because people are talking
- 20:54Speaker 1: about it, this is an ongoing conversation we have here
- 20:58Speaker 1: about should characters with disabilities be played by actors with disabilities?
- 21:02Speaker 1: And typically I'm in favor of that strongly. Yeah, this
- 21:07Speaker 1: was a different case because you've got a character who
- 21:11Speaker 1: was sighted in the beginning of the movie and had
- 21:14Speaker 1: to go through the process of losing their sight. And
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm personally and I don't really get to be the
- 21:19Speaker 1: person to make that call, But as a viewer, I'm
- 21:21Speaker 1: okay with the choice to use a sided actor for
- 21:23Speaker 1: her role, particularly again to your point with using blind
- 21:30Speaker 1: actors to play other blind actors in the movie. Oh,
- 21:34Speaker 1: how do you feel about that? While I was watching,
- 21:37Speaker 1: there was a little bit of like push and pull
- 21:39Speaker 1: of what I was thinking. But I was like, well,
- 21:41Speaker 1: how else would they have done it? You have a
- 21:44Speaker 1: sighted person who tragically becomes blind. I suppose the argument
- 21:50Speaker 1: is a blind person could have played a sided person. Okay,
- 21:54Speaker 1: that's fair. That's fair too. I guess it's not a
- 21:59Speaker 1: clear line for me from this case. Okay, I opposed
- 22:02Speaker 1: to Chandler Massey's character in a previous movie. That was
- 22:05Speaker 1: a very clear line he should not have taken that role. Yeah,
- 22:09Speaker 1: what's the feedback ban on that? Where are people landing
- 22:13Speaker 1: on that? I've seen people on both sides sides? Okay.
- 22:17Speaker 1: I don't want to be the person who's like, hmm,
- 22:19Speaker 1: it doesn't matter to me in this case. Sarah, you're
- 22:21Speaker 1: such a great actor. I don't want to say that.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I just what do you do in this case? I
- 22:26Speaker 1: don't know, gotcha. I thought they did a nice job
- 22:29Speaker 1: of talking about all of the modifications person who has
- 22:34Speaker 1: lost their sight can use. They talked about like descriptive
- 22:38Speaker 1: audio on television programs, And they showed her going through
- 22:42Speaker 1: the School for the Blind and her friend creating the app,
- 22:46Speaker 1: And I was really interested in her desk set up.
- 22:48Speaker 1: He's like, Oh, I've got a cup holder for your
- 22:49Speaker 1: coffee mugs. You don't accidentally knock it over on your desk. Yeah,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I thought that was interesting. I think that's interesting too.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Sometimes I get a little how do I say it?
- 23:01Speaker 1: My thought is like I'm curious as a viewer about
- 23:06Speaker 1: the modifications. Yes. However, sometimes, like you know, when movies
- 23:13Speaker 1: are trying to teach us something and it comes off
- 23:18Speaker 1: as I guess maybe like the closest example of recent
- 23:22Speaker 1: is like The Love and the Great Smoking Mountains. Yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 1: but did it feel like that a little bit to me? Oh?
- 23:29Speaker 1: Because I felt Love and the Great Smoking Mountains to
- 23:31Speaker 1: me felt like and now a moment for learning? No? Oh, okay, yes,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I agree it was happening in that movie. In this movie, No,
- 23:40Speaker 1: it was not happening like that. I thought it was
- 23:43Speaker 1: done well in this Okay, that's yes, that's how I
- 23:45Speaker 1: maybe want to learn more yes, it didn't feel like
- 23:49Speaker 1: they were taking a break from the story to teach
- 23:52Speaker 1: me something. Yes, I'm glad, I clarifyed, do you have
- 23:54Speaker 1: anything you wished for? I do just one. I'm not
- 23:57Speaker 1: sure I needed the voice of Garth oh regards. I
- 24:01Speaker 1: so disagree. Okay, you didn't enjoy it. I thought it
- 24:06Speaker 1: was cute, and I enjoyed his story, but his story
- 24:10Speaker 1: was so secondary to like, Sure, what was really happening
- 24:15Speaker 1: in this movie? Now, I'm very curious about the books
- 24:19Speaker 1: in that book series, like how that like develops. First
- 24:23Speaker 1: of all, when we have this talking dog, very cute.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I loved all of it. I love dogs. I'm here
- 24:31Speaker 1: for it. I thought, oh my god, this dog is
- 24:33Speaker 1: going to die. Oh I bet it happens in one
- 24:36Speaker 1: of the older book series. What do you think in
- 24:38Speaker 1: like the later book series. No, right, well, you know
- 24:42Speaker 1: I did think when they're like it takes two years
- 24:44Speaker 1: of training, which makes sense, like you can't give a
- 24:47Speaker 1: puppy to a person who needs care. Yeah, that they
- 24:53Speaker 1: need to be fully dialed in on their training. Sure,
- 24:56Speaker 1: I was like, oh man, two years in a lab
- 24:59Speaker 1: that maybe lives for Yeah, I know that made me sad.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I just thought about that. I don't know, like, I
- 25:05Speaker 1: just what did you think about the voiceover? So I
- 25:08Speaker 1: kind of loved it. So when I when we were
- 25:10Speaker 1: looking at this movie, when we were doing our schedule,
- 25:12Speaker 1: I saw Eric McCormick and I thought, oh my gosh,
- 25:16Speaker 1: Eric McCormick in a Hallmark movie. And then it said
- 25:18Speaker 1: as Garth, and I thought, oh gosh. I thought it
- 25:22Speaker 1: was First of all, Eric McCormick really shown as a dog.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Boys thought he was great. I love I didn't think
- 25:26Speaker 1: it sounded anything like him. Oh interesting, okay, but that's
- 25:31Speaker 1: just me.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 1: The other thing is I thought it was real cute.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I thought it added a little bit of sweetness and
- 25:40Speaker 1: light to the movie. I thought it helped us tell
- 25:43Speaker 1: Garth's story a little bit more. Like I don't know
- 25:47Speaker 1: how else you would have. You couldn't made that connection
- 25:52Speaker 1: to Ken only, yeah, you couldn't. So because obviously the
- 25:56Speaker 1: woman's not gonna be like we saw you in a
- 25:58Speaker 1: coffee shop two years ago, totally totally what Garth remembers,
- 26:04Speaker 1: which of course is silly and coincidental. I didn't mind that.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I didn't mind the like Garth remembers her throughout his life. Well,
- 26:10Speaker 1: that she imprinted on him. Oh then I start to wonder, like,
- 26:14Speaker 1: is does that really happen with dogs? You know, I
- 26:19Speaker 1: had lost a dog this summer, so like I think
- 26:22Speaker 1: about like what that dog thinks about? And then here
- 26:24Speaker 1: we have like this voiceover this dog is putting like
- 26:28Speaker 1: human thoughts to what dogs really feel or think. You know.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I know, well, okay, I hear you. Because last week
- 26:36Speaker 1: my dog did his first day real day at the
- 26:38Speaker 1: trainer and it was a little rough day for him.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I think a long day. M hmmm. They're nice to
- 26:43Speaker 1: him there, to be clear, I just think it's a lot,
- 26:45Speaker 1: a lot of hard work. And when we got out
- 26:47Speaker 1: of the car when I got home, I like opened
- 26:49Speaker 1: the door and I went to the backseat and he
- 26:51Speaker 1: was just sitting there and I kind of just like
- 26:52Speaker 1: leaned in and he just put his face next to
- 26:54Speaker 1: my face, and I applied all of those human emotion.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Are you just tired because you've been playing with other dogs?
- 27:00Speaker 1: All day? Are you like, don't make me go back right? So?
- 27:06Speaker 1: And I it took me, like he goes back tomorrow,
- 27:09Speaker 1: but it's taken me a full six days. I really
- 27:11Speaker 1: was like, no, we're not doing this anymore stop it,
- 27:14Speaker 1: which obviously I know is the wrong choice, and I
- 27:17Speaker 1: do think he genuinely liked it, but I applied all
- 27:19Speaker 1: of those human notions to him. Don't you need somebody
- 27:21Speaker 1: to be like, no, that's not what a dog is thinking. Well,
- 27:24Speaker 1: and that's why I asked to you. I'm like, are
- 27:25Speaker 1: we doing the wrong thing? Is this terrible? Really? My
- 27:29Speaker 1: answer was noble. I sleep over it. Oh my gosh,
- 27:32Speaker 1: my goad. I've laid awake being like, oh gosh, are
- 27:35Speaker 1: you ready for did to see that? Yes? I just
- 27:37Speaker 1: have a couple two little things. Okay. In the hospital,
- 27:40Speaker 1: when Emily first wakes up, Connor's in a suit. Oh okay,
- 27:44Speaker 1: he's in like a sport coat and a work shirt. Okay.
- 27:47Speaker 1: I don't understand the timeline they were hiking. He was
- 27:49Speaker 1: in hiking clothes. She goes to the hospital, she has surgery.
- 27:52Speaker 1: At some point he's left the hospital, so maybe she's
- 27:54Speaker 1: been there for a day or two before she's conscious again.
- 27:57Speaker 2: M hm.
- 27:58Speaker 1: You went to work during that time, apparently, so, like
- 28:01Speaker 1: I understand, maybe her mom comes and she's like, go home,
- 28:04Speaker 1: take a shower, and you come back, but you're still
- 28:06Speaker 1: in like sitting in the hospital clothes. Yeah, that to
- 28:09Speaker 1: me was like such a foreshadowing of who his character
- 28:12Speaker 1: was when I saw that, Like, this is your priority
- 28:15Speaker 1: that you're already working? Yeah, how it couldn't have been
- 28:18Speaker 1: more than forty eight hours? Yeah, good catch? What's your
- 28:22Speaker 1: other one? Emily says, sprinkles don't go on donuts, And
- 28:25Speaker 1: what kind of wild take is that? Right? That's my
- 28:29Speaker 1: donut of choice. I love a sprinkles. I love many donuts.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I do not have a one true donut, but I
- 28:35Speaker 1: love a sprinkle. Who sprinkle donuts are very popular, I know,
- 28:39Speaker 1: I love a sprinkle. That was so weird? What a
- 28:42Speaker 1: weird note? I only have one? Did you see that?
- 28:47Speaker 1: And it was once? You know where Emily's wearing bandages
- 28:51Speaker 1: and sunglasses, and it's shot from the side, and I
- 28:55Speaker 1: can see that the bandage is like far enough away
- 28:57Speaker 1: from her eye that like she's I could see her
- 29:00Speaker 1: eyelashes blinking. Oh interesting. You know, obviously she's not like
- 29:04Speaker 1: walking around with real bandages taped to her eyes. I
- 29:08Speaker 1: mean they are real bandages. My point is like they're
- 29:11Speaker 1: probably not like really stuck on tightly. I just thought, well,
- 29:16Speaker 1: that's weird. Maybe they're just blocking the light. They're not
- 29:19Speaker 1: actually like because she had graduated. At one point they
- 29:22Speaker 1: were like fully wrapped around her head, right, and then
- 29:24Speaker 1: she graduated too, they were just over her eyes, right.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Maybe she had graduated to like a looser bandage that
- 29:31Speaker 1: was blocking the light but allowed some airfling. I got
- 29:34Speaker 1: a question too as I was watching. I just just
- 29:37Speaker 1: thought about this. They didn't show her at all getting ready,
- 29:41Speaker 1: getting dressed for the day, showering, any sort of like
- 29:44Speaker 1: self care stuff. Yes, And maybe it's just because it's
- 29:48Speaker 1: difficult to show that. She didn't want to portray a
- 29:51Speaker 1: blind person as a sighted person, you know, utting her
- 29:54Speaker 1: clothes on right exactly. I was actually like wondering, like, oh,
- 29:57Speaker 1: I haven't seen any of that stuff. And then now
- 30:00Speaker 1: with some perspective, I'm like, oh, maybe because it would
- 30:04Speaker 1: have just maybe been in poor taste. I don't know. Yeah,
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'm always curious about details like that. I love logistics
- 30:10Speaker 1: and like the how to behind things right. And there
- 30:13Speaker 1: was one moment where she was learning to use the
- 30:15Speaker 1: walking stick and she was wearing this really cute outfit.
- 30:17Speaker 1: She had like these like stripey pants on, and I
- 30:20Speaker 1: was like, what's the what's the logistics there right. I
- 30:25Speaker 1: did notice her clothes. They were all very cute. Let's
- 30:29Speaker 1: rate this movie, okay, I'm ready five stars?
- 30:33Speaker 2: Did you?
- 30:34Speaker 1: I gave it four point seven to five and it
- 30:36Speaker 1: was just because of the voiceover giving it four point
- 30:40Speaker 1: seven to five, because it feels wild to give a
- 30:43Speaker 1: movie five stars. I can't think of. There wasn't anything
- 30:46Speaker 1: I didn't like. I loved it. Okay, see I feel
- 30:49Speaker 1: like a jerk knocking it down a little bit. You
- 30:52Speaker 1: didn't love the dog, It's okay. I loved the movie though.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I thought the movie was incredible, and I use it
- 31:00Speaker 1: on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, and I'm gonna say it,
- 31:03Speaker 1: Hamewark and Movie Mysteries puts out better movies than Hallmark often. Yes,
- 31:07Speaker 1: what the hell I don't get I don't get it
- 31:10Speaker 1: what multiverse relate Hallmark drama movie. But it was on
- 31:14Speaker 1: movies and mysteries because cable subscriptions sometimes includes the Hallmark
- 31:19Speaker 1: channel but not Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. And they want
- 31:21Speaker 1: you to bump up that that extra Okay, that's my guess. Whatever,
- 31:25Speaker 1: that's my guess. I love all the movie. I would
- 31:28Speaker 1: totally watch it again. Me too, Thanks for listening to
