- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: Ronnie, welcome to Daily Influence.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: Hi, thank you so much.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really glad to be here.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: I love what you do.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: And it's funny, and you reading my bio, I just realized, I don't even empower people like Suzanne or maybe ISIS.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's funny.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to rewrite that.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: I help people empower themselves.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's amazing.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Can you share it about your background?
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: And one led you to your work as a certified habit coach and life coach helping others reach their goals.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's funny.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: And both I was sort of presented and slept in the face with life, like you should be a life coach, you should be a life coach, you should be a have a coach with the out I'll explain in a second.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: I was a personal trainer and then COVID hit and everything shut down.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_02]: I live in Los Angeles, so I couldn't drive to all my boutiques.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: videos where I would train people or to their homes anymore.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: And being bang boom, we went on Zoom.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: I would train them.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: And several women were telling me and talking to me as we train and went along, you know, my boss or my sister or my friend, they're not working out and I don't get it.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: They're not making time for themselves.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I was joking around like I thought I'd be ready about it.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: Peloton.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm like, what do you want me to talk to her?
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's what I
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: was talking, and we would often say it's amazing, Greg, how really smart and intelligent power-babe sponsors, they just do not want to be not there for their company, if they were the boss, or they didn't want to be indispensable, if you were working, they didn't want to get furloughed.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: But the real crux of that was when we were talking, I would ask them questions.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: We always got to the bottom line as either they felt
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to work out at home, my kids are at home, my husbands at home, whatever it was, they felt self-conscious or they were just anxious, anxious times.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, as much as we pulled our big roll pants up, they were anxious times.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: So we would figure out, figure out, figure out, okay, how can you just do one tiny little thing a day?
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's what I did with my personal training clients.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: I would have them like, okay, get dressed at work.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're driving home with your sneakers on whatever, you're more than likely to go to the gym and they would.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't care if you go to the gym, just sit there and people watch, just show up at the same bad time, same bad channel.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: It was about not about the workout, because any personal trainer could give him, here's the workout, print out whatever, see you in three days, whatever.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: It was about the habit.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: it's weird if you don't do it because it becomes a part of you like brushing your teeth or whatever habit you have that you don't think about.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I was implementing that in helping people out and one lady's like, kind of coach me so well, you should really be a coach and then other people started saying you should be a coach.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: So back then I thought, well fitness coach, fast forward, I finally decided I'm going to take this seriously because I was a little bit skeptic,
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: everybody was the coach and so I took it seriously and I became an icy out of credit international coaching pederation went through the 150 hours auditing, mentor, had to do it for pro bono and then start getting paid.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: I really took it for the curriculum and to know what the heck I was doing.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: In the process of my first year, I was implementing that, okay, how do we start once they get clear and they're talking through that what they want to reach what was going on, okay, the steps, let's start tiny because people who want to start big and fast don't we, you know, with the plans, the programs, the hacks or the detoxes, the challenge and all of that's like, well, well, what's one little thing you could do.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's not just what you could do and definitely not what you should do, but then when you least feel like it or a lot of things are out of your control come into your day that you will do because it's that tiny and doable.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: And then I guess it was the algorithms.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: All these things started popping up about habits.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: All of a sudden, and I looked into it, and there's such a thing as a certified and certification and habit coaching, of course, it's behavioral change.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I went through that, and I became a certified habit coach, and I love it, because it really can be implemented in every aspect of your life.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: How does shifting this mindset and power people to create lasting change in their lives and careers?
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's not discipline or willpower, it's habits.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, when we launch a program or we're doing something big at work, of course, you have to have that willpower.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: And sometimes you've got to work a little harder, but those are the events.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: Nowadays, and for several years now, we see that a lot of people are constantly like, all right, I've got to be disciplined, and just the word of it, not the area of the discipline of psychology, but the verb, discipline is harsh.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're constantly doing it, or constantly like, okay, forcing that motivation or worse, waving to feel motivated, or constantly revving up, revving up, revving up that willpower, it's exhausting even saying it.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: That's what leads to burnout.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_02]: When you think about it, well, this does show that the studies do show that 40% to 50% of our days and you can look it up.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_02]: Half of our days are just on autopilot habits.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: The rest is what we choose to do in pivoting and all that.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: So why not make what you have to do?
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: Whenever you have to do to get on track, you have to get on track.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: your habits, even though one time you have it will help you keep on track.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: So it's natural momentum versus constant trying to be motivated.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: There's momentum that will carry you and that will motivate you.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, okay, I made progress today or I stayed on track at the very least.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: And that's something to really celebrate is that you didn't fall off track, you know?
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that makes sense and you often speak about fun accountability and celebrating progress.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: Why is self accountability such a powerful, powerful form of self care and how can people build it into their daily routines?
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, here's the thing.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: When you're like, yes, I didn't.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing it.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: It feels great, right?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: And every happy you have or everything that you do has reward.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: We're all addicts to dopamine.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Our lizard brains want every reward.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: They're just computers.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: Whether it's a bad habit or a good habit.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_02]: A good thing to do, bad thing to do,
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: you get something out of it.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: Even if you feel guilty afterward, the thing is you got something out of it, even if it's to fill a void of something.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: So, when I used to say, okay, how about some accountability, that's why people got perspectives, right?
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: Cause like, well, if I pay for what I have to show up, I have this, but people find out to be self accountable.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: often.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: And then they feel guilty.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: We'll take the negativity out of that.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: Make it a celebration.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: And let's just go neutral, somber at the very least.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: I have my clients just go done.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I take the word butt out of it.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: Instead of I hate doing this, but I'm doing it anyway.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: But it's kind of shocking.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: You're just like, put the hand up in the mirror, or just reversing like, what I'm doing it.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: How about, and?
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: Because your brain will not find it.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: If you say I hate doing this, but I'm doing it, your brain thinks it's negative.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: Because you have that negative attitude and thought about it.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: keep them to get to it.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: Don't lie to yourself.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: I hate doing this and I'm doing it anyway.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: It really starts softening it up and your brain all it knows is, yeah, you do, hate it.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, you are doing it.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: Note it, capable.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: So you start reprogramming yourself.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: And it could celebrate a kind of building most because it first people when they're accountable to someone.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes it goes to where they hide or I just got busy and they just feel like it's
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're their school mom or something.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: So how about let's make a celebration?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I have my clients on box or they box when we've done a green check market mochi, a lot of them are like, yeah, happy or they do a happy dance, but they let me know.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: And they start becoming a how they're celebrating themselves that they did it.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's amazing.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you're helping people identify why they resist action or feel overwhelmed and guide them toward one action that becomes a habit.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: Can you share real life example of someone who transformed to this approach?
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, okay, one of my latest clients, I won't name her, but she really wanted more time to work on her business.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was okay, but it was kind of not really leveling up.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: So she came to me and she was a, some type of cook to forget, but she's like, go, coach the coach, I saw the UICF and all that.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, I really need to have more time, and I seem to just not, my, my business isn't going anywhere, and I just don't understand and blah, blah, blah.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: It was going great two years ago.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway,
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a business coach, but let's see, and I'm not going to give you the whole thing, but we figured out her self care was affecting her.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: energy and her focus and then she went to reward herself by just going out with a girlfriend like a live work.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: I've done my two hours of, you know, my material and promoting and it was just all one big domino effect.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: So we started small with how is your morning?
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: We also looked at how was her night, her rituals, all of that and she wanted to get back to working out.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_02]: So this has been a process of about six months.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: The first thing we did was the morning, as she started a morning having to stop scrolling at the news in the headlines first thing while still the bed and looking at her phone.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, well, and we saw what she would like.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going to tell you, you have to journal, you have to do this meditation, you have to do this.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: We discover what will you like for real?
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: And she thought, well, I like listening to music and just shutting my eyes, but not falling back asleep, and I kind of self meditate.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_02]: So she stopped scrolling fast forward.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: She rebuilt her morning routine.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_02]: One of the things she wanted to start working out again, but slowly we figured out, but I always do have a chaining.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Hook your action, your new action to something you already do.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_02]: Don't add more to the plate.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: So, she ate lunch, she ate dinner by putting things in the microwave, right?
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: So, at lunch, the second she would put in the microwave, she had her two little dumbbells there.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: She would work out while the microwave was going, let it cool off.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: She only did like five to seven minutes.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: At the most, that has grown into twice a day.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: She does it right before dinner time.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: Unless she goes out.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: And she's now up to off the two pound dumbbells to the ten pound dumbbells.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: And she's feeling so great about the fact that she's doing it, right?
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: And what does it have to do with living up her business?
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: She's just feeling more accomplished.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: She's actually feeling better.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: And
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: She is making time now that she feels better in the morning, not so lethargic, not so bad, frazzled, and no matter what, she sits down and does some work for her business.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: So it's done in the morning.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then she can continue to see clients holding her workshops through all this stuff.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: And she has more time for that, but then also more time for herself.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: and then we worked on her night routine because that affects the morning.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: And the morning routine affects the night.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: So it's all one big domino effect.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: You start looking at the different pieces of your life that will help you.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: But we just start off with she just had one big goal.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand why my business is doing well.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: She has more people signing up for oh she's an astrologer by the way.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_02]: She has more people signing up for astrology workshops because she's just more clear and just be more creative and all the things she wanted to do for a business.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: More people are signing up
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: Ron, I have 20 people signed up now where I was just getting like a trickle six.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: I attributed to what we don't know.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: Is it a good mood?
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: Is that she feels better?
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: Is that she's just, she has focused her time, who knows, but it does have an effect.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_01]: the culmination of all of it.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for sharing that story, Ronnie, you mentioned creating healthy boundaries as habits.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: How can applying the principles of habit formation improve communication and strengthen relationships and work or at home?
- 13:41[SPEAKER_02]: Well, aren't we in the habit when you think about it, Greg?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: Think of somebody.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have to tell us, but think of somebody.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: If they could two people in fact, or three, three different kinds of people, don't aren't we in the habit of reacting or being a certain way with different people?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: like I know Thanksgiving is the biggest joke is everybody turns into their 12-year-old or their 14-year-old self or their 17-year-old self and we fall back into that family dynamics, not with our siblings, our parents, with our uncle.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: So we're in the habit of reacting to different situations or to
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: I react differently to a boss when I work at a company than I do to my husband.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just naming people or to a client.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: You react differently and you act differently.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_02]: That becomes your default.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you asked about several different things.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go to the boundaries.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of people think that boundaries are putting up that wall, the hand up.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_02]: I speak to the hand.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_02]: No, you can't do this, and I'm telling you, this is my boundary.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: No, when you have a home and you have a fence around or a gate around it, it's not just to tell people, keep it out.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's to tell people, hey, I'm just this is my home, and this is where it starts.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: go ahead and ring the bell or whatever you do to enter the gate, I'll let you in.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: You're not saying no, stay away and it's up to you to maintain that fence.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say that wood fence between you and your neighbor, you can go up to the fence.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, neighbor, how you doing today is they're guarding or whatever.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: All right, well, I'm going to go back to my side.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: You can be welcoming, but you have that boundary for what you have to maintain it, make sure that that lock is there.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Make sure that the wood fence is nicely painted and fresh.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever, you maintain your boundaries for yourself.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: That's the self-accountability.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: You're in the habit of, but really want to do this to what I'm not going to do this.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm living up to my values, I'm living up to my integrity, I'm living up to my schedule.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: And people, when I used to work out, I wasn't a trainer, and I remember telling my sister a lot one time, saying, well, I can't do that at that time because I have to go work out.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you can do it tomorrow.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's for tomorrow.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_02]: I have to work out for today.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: So you see, you keep your own boundaries.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: and people find it hard to do that.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_02]: Also in your habitual way of reacting to people, you can change the way you think.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_02]: You're habitual way of thinking.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: And we can get into that but that would be a whole other conversation.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's really, as you know, your behaviors to reactions, your actions, come from your emotions.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: and your emotions are triggered or prompted by a thought, even if it's a lightenspeed thought.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: And the automatic thoughts, you don't even think that are there, but those thoughts make you feel that way.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: And so when you stop and think and pause, okay, what am I feeling?
- 16:29[SPEAKER_02]: Am I angry?
- 16:30[SPEAKER_02]: Am I desperate?
- 16:31[SPEAKER_02]: Am I sad?
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: Do I have doubt?
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: Do I have fear?
- 16:34[SPEAKER_02]: Am I in joy?
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: Am I just content content?
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: Poncello's the joy?
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, what was the thought making me react that way?
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: Or that makes me behave that way?
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: and you can change your thought.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: It does not have to be aligned.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: It has to be the truth that truth will thought but it formed in a different way that you will accept.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_02]: Like instead of I am a $1 million making in shape goddess, you know, all these affirmations I'm exaggerating.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: But if your brain thinks that they are not, even that little grant, grain of sand of no you're not, your brain tries to prove that negative part, not the 99 percent advantage.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: Greens of the sand that you're hoping to be that right so affirmations are great but not when you're lying to yourself so how about I am me and I'm on my way to be coming in shape and making this much money if you really are on your way see the difference you're not lying to yourself and you're keeping yourself accountable and you're changing that emotion that's your changing your behavior and you feel better
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that is such great points.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for sharing them.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: Ronnie, what message are words of encouragement?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: Would you like to share with our listeners who aspire to make a positive difference in the world?
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: It no matter what you're going through, let's just think, I don't know, divorce or career change or emptiness or you're going off to school no matter what age.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's never too late or too soon, but I'm thinking more in life.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_02]: But it's never too late.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: or late in the game to create a new, productive, wonderful habit.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_02]: Never, no matter how set in your ways, you think you are.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: Ronnie, thank you.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's been such a joy exploring your take on influence through the lens of habits and accountability.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: Your reminder that change doesn't have to be hard.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a little bit at a time and forming new habits.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: If our listeners want to get in touch with you, what's the best way to do so?
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: You'll always find me playing, as I say, playing.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: You'll always find me in LinkedIn, posting or sharing with others.
