- 0:16Speaker 1: Return to Glory podcast Hunters are being Austin Rose Code
- 0:22Speaker 1: Free tag is.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Here, but on the hot seat.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's been a couple of been a couple of weeks
- 0:31Speaker 1: since we've done a podcast. Been a busy couple of weeks.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Nebraska basketball keeps rolling, the whole transfer portal window has
- 0:42Speaker 1: come and gone, and there's some coaching news to talk
- 0:47Speaker 1: about here in the middle of January. We're gonna start
- 0:53Speaker 1: off and probably talk for most of the podcast because
- 0:56Speaker 1: all I really want to talk about and what I
- 0:58Speaker 1: really have cared about this eighteen to oh top ten
- 1:04Speaker 1: ranked team that.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Nobody saw coming.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And call us the Indiana, the basketball version of Indiana
- 1:16Speaker 1: who just came off a national title win on on
- 1:20Speaker 1: Monday night over Miami. I guess real quick, you guys,
- 1:25Speaker 1: thoughts on the national title, thoughts on Indiana.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Good for Indiana, college basketball or college football. I didn't
- 1:34Speaker 3: watch it. I'd moved on. I'm not gonna lie. I
- 1:37Speaker 3: was like, I don't really care anymore. It's mid January.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I watched NFL playoff games yesterday, NBA basketball, college basketball.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I don't I'm.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Fine absolutely saying what's thing that he's done there? I
- 1:51Speaker 4: saw a tweet yesterday. Two years ago Gainst they played
- 1:54Speaker 4: actoring for their opening game. Acroing took him to four
- 1:56Speaker 4: overtimes and there was maybe twenty percent of the stadium
- 1:59Speaker 4: was So it's I mean, it's a great turnaround and
- 2:04Speaker 4: probably fall sports.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's impressive.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I it's one of one, and it's going to get
- 2:11Speaker 3: a lot of coaches fired.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It will, and.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I love it.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And Signetti is the perfect personality to do it.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Uh, And you're right, it's not something that I think
- 2:24Speaker 1: is normal, and you're going to probably see anywhere really
- 2:28Speaker 1: for a long time.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Maybe could be wrong.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And the closest thing that we're kind of seeing, like
- 2:33Speaker 1: I mentioned, is is Nebraska basketball. So people are starting
- 2:36Speaker 1: to compare it to at least in our world, of
- 2:40Speaker 1: the of what Hoiberg's done so far this year at
- 2:44Speaker 1: at Nebraska.
- 2:46Speaker 2: And this isn't quite a you know, he's been here for.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Seven years, but as far as the big program of
- 2:55Speaker 1: the program in the history and the tradition and then
- 2:58Speaker 1: the way that we're doing as far as the playing
- 3:01Speaker 1: style and the type of things that we're doing to
- 3:04Speaker 1: get us to win, is very very similar.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Indiana does not have a bunch of.
- 3:10Speaker 1: High paid, talented from a star standpoint players. Signetti developed
- 3:17Speaker 1: the players into a system. He's built a culture around
- 3:21Speaker 1: toughness and all of those little one liners that he
- 3:25Speaker 1: loves to throw out there.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And they want a national title.
- 3:28Speaker 1: And you could say the same thing with Fred on
- 3:31Speaker 1: the types of little things that we have done this
- 3:33Speaker 1: year with the team, And yeah, obviously I do not
- 3:38Speaker 1: expect us to win a national title. But right now
- 3:43Speaker 1: we haven't lost the game yet and we are in
- 3:46Speaker 1: the middle to late parts of January undefeated as a
- 3:49Speaker 1: basketball program, which is just it's a dream, right, it's
- 3:53Speaker 1: a it's a it's like unheard of people. Well, we're
- 3:57Speaker 1: gonna lose. We're gonna lose.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think we will. We will last
- 4:02Speaker 2: I think.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Last week time team undefeated after last night.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Number one of the conference alone, at the top preseason
- 4:11Speaker 3: ranked fourteen, projected fourteen finish. Have you started training so?
- 4:19Speaker 3: Have you started training for your half marathon? Hunter?
- 4:22Speaker 2: I know it's bound to No, I will not run
- 4:25Speaker 2: in the spring.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I will be I mean wait for the official official
- 4:29Speaker 1: results until the fall, but or until we do it.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Then I'll preay train for the one in the fall.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I'm kind of accepted it that's probably going to happen,
- 4:39Speaker 1: although God wouldn't it. It wouldn't be funny. No, it
- 4:44Speaker 1: would be to Nebraska if we do lose as a
- 4:48Speaker 1: two or three seed, which is which is kind of
- 4:51Speaker 1: where we're projected right now and in several of the brackets.
- 4:56Speaker 4: So when we made this bat, I was fully predicting,
- 4:59Speaker 4: like in the back in my head, they're gonna be eighteen. No,
- 5:01Speaker 4: like by this time I knew this all.
- 5:07Speaker 3: If I remember the conversation, we were talking preseason expectations
- 5:12Speaker 3: and you and I both started like, yeah, we'll be
- 5:15Speaker 3: better at fourteen. By the end of it, we were
- 5:17Speaker 3: both like, yeah, we should make the tournament. Hunter was
- 5:19Speaker 3: a but we were. It took us a conversation to get.
- 5:24Speaker 1: There, if I remember correctly, Like I don't know and
- 5:27Speaker 1: back through it out there, he said, you know what
- 5:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna say it, We're.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Gonna win a tournament game this year. That's how it went.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And that's where I went off and was just started
- 5:36Speaker 1: laughing at him and said, yeah, right, no way, let's
- 5:39Speaker 1: make a bet on it.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And that's how that conversation went.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And you, you, Dak, you are a fool in most
- 5:46Speaker 1: people's eyes when you said that, and now look where
- 5:51Speaker 1: we're at.
- 5:52Speaker 4: No, I did I mean this is I did not
- 5:55Speaker 4: think they're eighteen. No, but I I did think they'd
- 5:58Speaker 4: be like a to start season like it, well, Max
- 6:02Speaker 4: the seventh seed. I just thought ranking masking back would
- 6:06Speaker 4: be the which it has turned out to be the
- 6:07Speaker 4: big thing. But all these other TRANSFERSC well, Samford coming
- 6:11Speaker 4: in and Frank's showing up is the big difference.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I think Price and I mean we essentially have three
- 6:16Speaker 3: new players that are outside of Fred. I mean Price,
- 6:22Speaker 3: I mean I mean even Fred, and I mean bar
- 6:24Speaker 3: Kay is a new player from last year.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Like, yeah, he means you're meaning Sam when you say Fred, right.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Oh sorry, yeah, he means Sam Hoiberg. Bear Kay is
- 6:37Speaker 3: like got a new guy from last year, last year's
- 6:39Speaker 3: I don't know how I described Hm last year, but
- 6:41Speaker 3: it wasn't. There are times where I was like, holy shit,
- 6:44Speaker 3: Bearka is like legit out there. I mean, he'll drain
- 6:48Speaker 3: a three every once in a while, and I hate
- 6:50Speaker 3: Hi when he shoots him, but then he'll go down
- 6:52Speaker 3: and get a block and a rebound. And he doesn't
- 6:55Speaker 3: have the stats.
- 6:56Speaker 1: But I mean, we could go through literally player that's
- 7:00Speaker 1: playing significant minutes for us and talk about how they're
- 7:04Speaker 1: outperforming their expectations, because it's true, it.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Really is on this roster.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I want to touch on that here. First, Do you
- 7:16Speaker 1: think that it has anything to do with it? I
- 7:18Speaker 1: mean this team, I laughed at the at the team
- 7:21Speaker 1: photo is looking at us from a first gut feeling
- 7:28Speaker 1: like this team's not going to be very good. Look
- 7:31Speaker 1: at us, and you know you think expectation. I mean,
- 7:36Speaker 1: this team had zero expectations coming in. It's Hoiberg year seven.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I even said it too. If we don't win a
- 7:44Speaker 1: tournament game this year, I think French should get fired.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Like it just we're we were at the point where
- 7:50Speaker 1: everything was just like we've tried this, We've we've been
- 7:56Speaker 1: down this road for seven years now, and like, yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 1: we had some decent years in there, but we still
- 8:01Speaker 1: can't win that.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Like we've been down that road.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Wal here we are, Like you think the expectation think
- 8:05Speaker 1: factors into it.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just I don't even know how to describe
- 8:15Speaker 3: the experience. Mike. So obviously we haven't talked since. Did
- 8:22Speaker 3: we talk about the Indiana game?
- 8:24Speaker 1: No, because that's the one that Dack's getting fired for.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Okay, so I mean Indiana. I don't know. It was
- 8:31Speaker 3: on the road. Verdicts still out on whether they're a
- 8:33Speaker 3: good team or not. They had that one guy who
- 8:37Speaker 3: was on an incredible hot streak. I can't think of
- 8:39Speaker 3: his name. But then after that game, I said in
- 8:42Speaker 3: Texas like, man, I'd really love a Wisconsin type win
- 8:45Speaker 3: where we just absolutely roast a team. And then we
- 8:48Speaker 3: beat We were up by forty against Oregon, which I mean,
- 8:51Speaker 3: Oregon's not good, but I mean they're all coached, and
- 8:55Speaker 3: then we beat Northwestern by twenty, and as I was
- 8:58Speaker 3: watching it, I was like, it doesn't feel like we're
- 9:00Speaker 3: killing these guys, because there wasn't like a moment where
- 9:03Speaker 3: it's just like, oh, we put this thing to bed.
- 9:06Speaker 3: But we end up looking at the powal s courts
- 9:08Speaker 3: like holy shit, we won by like twenty, like like
- 9:11Speaker 3: it just did it just happened. It wasn't like we
- 9:15Speaker 3: were dominating. It didn't feel like we were dominating, but
- 9:20Speaker 3: like the final results was just I mean a twenty
- 9:23Speaker 3: point win, which is pretty good.
- 9:25Speaker 4: It's weird, and they they haven't got too over confident
- 9:28Speaker 4: at all. In these games. You'd think after the Michigan
- 9:30Speaker 4: State when they come out lose, Nope, and then and
- 9:34Speaker 4: then I thought I thought either either Oregon Northwestern they
- 9:37Speaker 4: slip up. Nope, they just haven't. The commentens hasn't got
- 9:40Speaker 4: to their heads yet and they I don't know how
- 9:45Speaker 4: long the street's gonna go. I I personally think they're
- 9:47Speaker 4: gonna lose at Minesota. That would be the first loss.
- 9:49Speaker 4: But it's been It's been a fun rats of party.
- 9:53Speaker 4: You could tell they all love playing with each other,
- 9:56Speaker 4: like and we're healthy. Yeah see that. I was saying
- 10:00Speaker 4: that last night. Too one bad injury and this team's
- 10:02Speaker 4: going to ship because there's no depth.
- 10:04Speaker 1: But I disagree.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I think we can handle and injury. It just probably
- 10:11Speaker 3: can't be price.
- 10:14Speaker 1: And I think going like I don't, I don't think.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, obviously, four guys get hurt. Different if
- 10:25Speaker 1: a couple of guys get hurt. I don't think it
- 10:26Speaker 1: takes us from a where we're at to out of
- 10:29Speaker 1: the tournament conversation.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Like, No, I agree, we're in the tournament. If we
- 10:33Speaker 3: win Washington Minnesota, I think we're box well.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I I will say this week, I've seen this ass locks.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I mean team A couple of places have started to
- 10:42Speaker 1: lock up how they do their bracketology and us in
- 10:45Speaker 1: Arizona or the first two there, and he's locking up.
- 10:49Speaker 2: So I bring up the expectation conversation.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Just as a I've said a lot with with the
- 10:56Speaker 1: football team. I think one of the problems and issues
- 11:00Speaker 1: at Nebraska is the unrealistic expectations that get put upon
- 11:06Speaker 1: the players and how that gets to them and the
- 11:08Speaker 1: coaching staff and all their heads and then it gets
- 11:11Speaker 1: into their strategy and their decision making from you know,
- 11:15Speaker 1: a program building standpoint, but also just specifics do even
- 11:19Speaker 1: sometimes all the way down to play calling. Like I
- 11:21Speaker 1: think that's gone on in the football program for quite
- 11:24Speaker 1: some time now, where just outside noise and influence. No,
- 11:29Speaker 1: are there are the fans running the programs? No, but
- 11:33Speaker 1: is their influence as far as what expectation level is
- 11:40Speaker 1: getting set at the program and then is it driving potentially.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Work effort and how hard you're working, you know, to drive.
- 11:52Speaker 1: The the thought process of these college athletes. Yes, I
- 11:56Speaker 1: think that is one hundred percent a thing we see
- 11:59Speaker 1: you see at the heightst level where freaking to high
- 12:03Speaker 1: schoo some random paper as a high school ranking and
- 12:06Speaker 1: high school girls and boys think they're really really good
- 12:09Speaker 1: and they think they can take take the foot off
- 12:11Speaker 1: the gas. Like that happens at all levels, and I
- 12:14Speaker 1: think football is the biggest victim of that. At Nebraska.
- 12:19Speaker 1: The basketball team this year had zero expectations. And the
- 12:25Speaker 1: thing that Fred's done by the way I can tell
- 12:28Speaker 1: that he talks, but then the players are talking too.
- 12:31Speaker 1: They're ignoring all of that, like they're they're obviously participating
- 12:35Speaker 1: in it, but they're not letting all of that get
- 12:37Speaker 1: to their heads. The example one a of this situation
- 12:42Speaker 1: was when we were playing against Michigan State and Fred
- 12:45Speaker 1: talked for five minutes and said, I gotta go get
- 12:46Speaker 1: to work, like he's not letting it consume him. The
- 12:52Speaker 1: football program has done that, and I'm talking about rule,
- 12:55Speaker 1: but I'm talking about all the previous coaches in the
- 12:58Speaker 1: whole program in general. Like that's something the basketball team,
- 13:02Speaker 1: the football team needs to learn from the basketball team
- 13:04Speaker 1: is like, no, shut up, don't Yes, you can't control it,
- 13:10Speaker 1: you cannot control the media and that out all of that,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but you don't listen to it, and you have to
- 13:16Speaker 1: ingrain your players to not do it. I don't think
- 13:20Speaker 1: we've done a good job of that. And I think
- 13:22Speaker 1: that's a very big problem the football team. The basketball
- 13:25Speaker 1: team figured it out, like and part of that was
- 13:28Speaker 1: because there was any conversation about it, they didn't have
- 13:30Speaker 1: to talk about it, and then when they started to
- 13:31Speaker 1: become conversation, they can say Nope, like, no one believed
- 13:36Speaker 1: in you to begin with, so why start believing now,
- 13:39Speaker 1: And let's just keep putting our heads down and go
- 13:40Speaker 1: to work. And that's what they're doing, and they just
- 13:43Speaker 1: continue to win and win and win and win again,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and games that you're like, Okay, this is the one
- 13:51Speaker 1: we're gonna blow it. We're bound to lose. Nope, let's
- 13:54Speaker 1: just go beat Northwestern by twenty on the road.
- 13:57Speaker 3: I mean prior to the organ Western game two, I mean,
- 14:01Speaker 3: I still wasn't sold. You know, we beat in Indiana
- 14:05Speaker 3: by six, Ohio State by three, Michigan State by two,
- 14:09Speaker 3: Illinois by three at the buzzer, you know, Oklahoma, and overtime.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Wasn't like we were killing these guys. We weren't. We
- 14:18Speaker 3: were winning, but it's like, man, we're outside of that
- 14:21Speaker 3: Wisconsin and creating game, which Creighton then kind of turned
- 14:24Speaker 3: around to look kind of like a crappy team for
- 14:25Speaker 3: the year. It's like I don't know.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And when you say sold, you sold on?
- 14:29Speaker 4: What?
- 14:30Speaker 3: Like unlike like are we an actual contender? Like I
- 14:33Speaker 3: mean like I was sold that we were going to
- 14:36Speaker 3: make the tournament. But it's like, you know, is this
- 14:37Speaker 3: like a you know, a team.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Yeah, the level of the teams making the tournament, winning
- 14:44Speaker 1: a tournament game, I'll just say making the sweet sixteen?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Like when I say sold, what are you?
- 14:49Speaker 3: Where's your sweet sixteen? Or more like like, are we
- 14:52Speaker 3: like a real contender in the college basketball landscape, not
- 14:56Speaker 3: just Nebraska best one of the best teams in Nebraska history.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Like it's like, oh okay, Like people are like like
- 15:04Speaker 3: this team can actually like make a tournament run, not
- 15:06Speaker 3: like a run like I still don't think we're good
- 15:08Speaker 3: enough to win it, but I mean Perdue lost. Michigan lost.
- 15:13Speaker 3: You know, people, Michigan looked like the absolute you know
- 15:17Speaker 3: bear in college basketball there where they were winning every
- 15:19Speaker 3: game by thirty and then all of a sudden they look,
- 15:21Speaker 3: you know, a little more human, where their their margin
- 15:23Speaker 3: of victory gets a little smaller when they got into
- 15:25Speaker 3: Big Ten play. But I just I and actively. They
- 15:28Speaker 3: when we're up by forty against Organ, I was like,
- 15:30Speaker 3: I don't know, we might be like good good like
- 15:32Speaker 3: not like not like an easy schedule product and a
- 15:35Speaker 3: couple of close wins or we're scrapping with people that
- 15:38Speaker 3: anyone's like, I don't know, we could we could do something.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Yeah. That that Organ game also sold for me because
- 15:44Speaker 4: that first half, which is something else that they've kind
- 15:47Speaker 4: of struggled or kind of need to work on a
- 15:49Speaker 4: little bits first as a little bit slower, but then
- 15:52Speaker 4: that second half they just completely dominated Organ. They're like, yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 4: we're not gonna We're not gonna fuck around anymore here.
- 15:57Speaker 4: This is this game's over. But the other part of
- 16:04Speaker 4: this I think is gonna be crazy is I think Cale,
- 16:09Speaker 4: if Kale starts scoring like he he has been shooting
- 16:11Speaker 4: better off the bench, has been shooting better off they
- 16:14Speaker 4: just need they seed him off the bench. If he
- 16:16Speaker 4: can get a good five to eight points off the bench,
- 16:21Speaker 4: I think they will they are top five team in
- 16:24Speaker 4: my mind.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Then well, like I mean, Frager is really blown up
- 16:29Speaker 3: the last couple of games where it's like, oh wait, crap,
- 16:31Speaker 3: this dude can't miss.
- 16:33Speaker 4: Yeah, he and some of the dun't, he throws down
- 16:36Speaker 4: to I did not know he's athletic. No one.
- 16:39Speaker 1: The dunks have been kind of fun, yeah, Dak, I don't.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think that. No, I don't think
- 16:44Speaker 1: that Cale needs to score five day points.
- 16:46Speaker 4: I don't.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I don't think that's a necessity. I think Cale knows
- 16:50Speaker 1: his role. His role is not to score eight to
- 16:52Speaker 1: ten points.
- 16:53Speaker 2: That's not his role.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Now, if I was an opposing team, I would make
- 16:59Speaker 1: Kal Jacobson or ten plus points to beat you. But
- 17:02Speaker 1: but but if if if we're good enough not to
- 17:04Speaker 1: let that happen, which so far we have. But I don't,
- 17:06Speaker 1: there's no reason to do that. I don't. I don't
- 17:10Speaker 1: think it's a kale Go out there and we need
- 17:12Speaker 1: to score. I don't think that's true. I don't think
- 17:14Speaker 1: we want him to unless teams are literally not guarding
- 17:17Speaker 1: him and they're kind of starting to do that a
- 17:19Speaker 1: little bit. But like it has not affected us so far,
- 17:23Speaker 1: and so I don't think we need to be telling
- 17:25Speaker 1: kale Go score ten points because not that's not his role.
- 17:29Speaker 3: It's funny. I could I also mentioned, like I do,
- 17:32Speaker 3: I thought going into the Organ game, at some point,
- 17:35Speaker 3: We're just gonna have a game where it's just we.
- 17:37Speaker 3: We're gonna miss converse, agons offense, off the bench, where
- 17:39Speaker 3: it's just and then you know, Brandon Frager kind of
- 17:43Speaker 3: took over and became the three point shooter that everyone
- 17:47Speaker 3: saw it coming obviously. But you know, you talked about
- 17:51Speaker 3: our death, but I I would say, you know, an
- 17:55Speaker 3: injury at the top would be bad, you know, so
- 17:57Speaker 3: I said price and the rank, but you look at
- 17:58Speaker 3: our depth and if you put out Kale Jared, you know,
- 18:03Speaker 3: Brandon out there as our three depth, our next three
- 18:07Speaker 3: depth play pieces Like, I don't that's pretty good always. So,
- 18:11Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know, have you guys heard anything
- 18:13Speaker 3: about Ugi. I don't think he's gonna play this year, but.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I don't I don't think they need him.
- 18:17Speaker 3: I don't think, yeah, yeah, he's kind of a break
- 18:19Speaker 3: glass in case.
- 18:20Speaker 1: But I think he's I think he is kind of
- 18:22Speaker 1: still there, maybe not one hundred percent, but still around
- 18:25Speaker 1: to where we need him.
- 18:27Speaker 2: We can type of deal. Yeah.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Yeah, So I don't know. I'm feeling pretty good. I
- 18:32Speaker 3: know we're gonna lose a game. I know we're gonna
- 18:34Speaker 3: lose a game. I keep telling myself that so my
- 18:35Speaker 3: heart's not broken when it happens.
- 18:37Speaker 1: But so I pulled up something here. If you're watching
- 18:41Speaker 1: on YouTube, and I'm gonna show a few things here
- 18:44Speaker 1: that I guess I like to look at that I
- 18:46Speaker 1: think are fun, they're they're very data number driven. Right now,
- 18:55Speaker 1: let me ask you, guys, if you had to say, yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I'm giving you three hundred dollars and if you get
- 19:00Speaker 1: it right, you get to keep the money. If not,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you got to give it back. What seed are we
- 19:05Speaker 1: gonna be in the tournament?
- 19:08Speaker 3: It's a two top five, so hard.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Come come the end of you.
- 19:12Speaker 1: If we're gonna be a seed?
- 19:13Speaker 4: What seedar a we're gonna be? I mean, it's it'd
- 19:16Speaker 4: be boring to take a your same pick. So I'm
- 19:18Speaker 4: gonna say one seed.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna go.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna go like a four seed, just if I
- 19:28Speaker 1: had to throw something out there. But anyways, so why
- 19:32Speaker 1: I say that? So there's obviously a billion different bracket
- 19:37Speaker 1: stuff out there now. The one I'm showing and sharing
- 19:40Speaker 1: now it's probably really small on everybody else's screen, but
- 19:45Speaker 1: it's it's a bracketmatrix dot com. So what it does
- 19:48Speaker 1: and this is updated as of yesterday. It's usually a
- 19:51Speaker 1: daily update. It takes everybody's predictions out there, and I
- 19:55Speaker 1: think it's I don't even know how many there are
- 19:57Speaker 1: eighty four brackets out there, so finds everything on the
- 20:01Speaker 1: internet and whenever they're updated, they update them on here
- 20:04Speaker 1: and it puts in what seedgr then it takes a
- 20:06Speaker 1: big average. Obviously, when you're looking to get into the tournament,
- 20:09Speaker 1: it tells you how many have you in the tournament,
- 20:14Speaker 1: so you scroll down then you can kind of see
- 20:16Speaker 1: where everybody lands. So right now, out of all the brackets,
- 20:20Speaker 1: it's an Nerasque is averaging just under a two seed
- 20:25Speaker 1: one point nine three. There's quite a few that have
- 20:28Speaker 1: us as a one. There are a couple that still
- 20:31Speaker 1: have US as a three seed, but overall we're sitting
- 20:36Speaker 1: at a two seed for the tournament here. I'm not
- 20:41Speaker 1: sure if you guys have seen this, but I always
- 20:42Speaker 1: think it's kind of cool to see where other teams
- 20:44Speaker 1: are coming in at. You know, Michigan is a one
- 20:49Speaker 1: seed right now. This is updated of yesterday. Uh with
- 20:55Speaker 1: the two seed being so they have their hot you're
- 20:57Speaker 1: high and you're low to kind of highlighted. I think
- 20:59Speaker 1: It kind of just a cool thing to look at
- 21:01Speaker 1: right now. It's really fun to look at when you
- 21:03Speaker 1: when you see us in that two seed line, so
- 21:06Speaker 1: you kind of saw us creep up there. The other
- 21:12Speaker 1: one that I like to look at a lot.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Is this update for you guys. Go to a different page.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Yeah, team rankings, yep.
- 21:24Speaker 1: I like look at team rankings a lot, which is
- 21:25Speaker 1: one of them actually on that bracket matrix. But it
- 21:28Speaker 1: has some good information on here. So what this does
- 21:32Speaker 1: is you can look at our schedule and then when
- 21:37Speaker 1: you want to look at there's two things I look
- 21:39Speaker 1: at a lot the projections on here. So what the
- 21:43Speaker 1: projections do. It takes our schedule, It kind of projects
- 21:46Speaker 1: out the rest of the year for you. So right now,
- 21:49Speaker 1: it's got us estimated at basically twenty six and five,
- 21:54Speaker 1: a little bit better than that for the regular season.
- 21:57Speaker 1: It's got us losing between four and five conference still,
- 22:01Speaker 1: uh fourteen percent chance to win the conference. Then it
- 22:07Speaker 1: goes through some odds there and then I.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Mean, I think twice six and five. I was thinking
- 22:17Speaker 3: when I was talking about this at work, I said,
- 22:19Speaker 3: twenty seven and four. To me, that's pretty close to
- 22:22Speaker 3: what i'd expect.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Well, the Big n's also not as strong as it
- 22:27Speaker 4: has been the past.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Like maybe I don't know. The analytic darlings love Illinois,
- 22:33Speaker 3: they love Michigan State and they love Michigan.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Yeah. Outside of those two though, there's not much.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, last thing and then they do and they did
- 22:46Speaker 1: it for the whole schedule here. So after the right
- 22:50Speaker 1: you can see our toughest remaining games and easiest games.
- 22:54Speaker 1: So when you're when you start looking at you know
- 22:57Speaker 1: who we're playing out to look as okay, should we
- 22:58Speaker 1: win this game?
- 23:00Speaker 4: Right?
- 23:00Speaker 1: Like, what are our odds percentage chance to win? It's
- 23:03Speaker 1: similar to like the ESPN whatever when you look at
- 23:09Speaker 1: the you click on the ESPN for the football game
- 23:11Speaker 1: and you see we have a fotball power yeah, and
- 23:14Speaker 1: it's it's similar to that where you can just see, okay,
- 23:16Speaker 1: this is the chances that this.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Website gives you to win with your games out.
- 23:21Speaker 1: So now that there's not as many games left, you
- 23:24Speaker 1: can see like Washington tonight, when we play them at home,
- 23:28Speaker 1: we have an eighty point five percent chance of beating
- 23:30Speaker 1: them according to team rankings here. So that's what our
- 23:35Speaker 1: fifth thesiest game. Obviously, your home games are more likely
- 23:40Speaker 1: to win than road games. Your Michigan game coming up
- 23:47Speaker 1: here is twelve point two percent chance of winning on
- 23:53Speaker 1: the road. So that's I mean that to me feels
- 23:55Speaker 1: about right. It'd be kind of cool to win that one,
- 23:57Speaker 1: but it feels about right. So and lastly, what you
- 24:01Speaker 1: can look at here is like a big bracketology thing.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So they got your odds to make the tournament right now,
- 24:10Speaker 1: we're at one hundred percent.
- 24:11Speaker 4: We're a lock.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Uh at large bid versus automatic bid, you're most likely
- 24:16Speaker 1: seed here. We've we're up to a two now on here,
- 24:19Speaker 1: which every time I check it we've been at a three,
- 24:22Speaker 1: so we've slid down to that two line. Then it
- 24:24Speaker 1: kind of goes through each round here then too. So
- 24:27Speaker 1: as far as my bet with Dak, this is the
- 24:29Speaker 1: number I've been looking at to make the round of
- 24:32Speaker 1: sixty four, which we're pretty we're a lock there, But
- 24:37Speaker 1: to make the round of thirty two, that would be
- 24:38Speaker 1: winning a tournament game.
- 24:40Speaker 2: We have a ninety point five percent chance.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Of winning God of Ringing Half Marathon right now.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yep, that's what Dak's got right now.
- 24:48Speaker 1: So God's about a fifty to fifty chance of making
- 24:50Speaker 1: the Sweet sixteen, so and then there's some other metrics
- 24:55Speaker 1: down here, so I think that those are kind of
- 24:58Speaker 1: fun to watch and just see. These have been pretty accurate,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I would say overall, from as far as making the
- 25:04Speaker 1: tournament goes past few years now when it comes to
- 25:07Speaker 1: what seed we're going to get?
- 25:09Speaker 2: Who knows.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Last thing here that Austin. I'm not going to go
- 25:16Speaker 1: through all this stuff because it's very very data driven.
- 25:20Speaker 1: But if you are very data driven and want to
- 25:22Speaker 1: look at it, it's J T h.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Oh M J Tom Analytics. Uh, there's there's some cool
- 25:30Speaker 2: things on here.
- 25:31Speaker 1: They just show just some different odds and projections for
- 25:36Speaker 1: seeds and stuff like that. And over time, I like
- 25:39Speaker 1: the overtime stuff to show like where we've been from
- 25:44Speaker 1: a seeding standpoint or getting into the tournament. So anyway,
- 25:51Speaker 1: some good stuff, some good data stuff, some tools.
- 25:54Speaker 4: There for you. Yeah, Austin, the same of the other day.
- 25:56Speaker 4: My brain about blew up.
- 25:58Speaker 5: I hope that, Yeah, this is a cool little like
- 26:04Speaker 5: how it tells you, you know, here's a number of
- 26:06Speaker 5: games we think you needed to hit to be a
- 26:08Speaker 5: lock for the tournament, and these are your teams that
- 26:11Speaker 5: you're most likely to win it.
- 26:12Speaker 3: On. I thought that was a good visual, but.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you go.
- 26:20Speaker 3: I don't know, man, I just had a moment when
- 26:23Speaker 3: it gets to Oregon where I just I don't know.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I want you to explain yourself as a as a.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Fan here the Indiana game, you decided not to watch
- 26:37Speaker 1: it because you decided to take a nap during it.
- 26:42Speaker 1: I was not very happy. I mean, it's not that's
- 26:46Speaker 1: not being a really good fan.
- 26:51Speaker 4: I had my birthday birthday party then I before Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 4: I was invited to to my next one as I'm
- 27:01Speaker 4: another one. Okay, I don't know if I should put
- 27:03Speaker 4: this out there.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Okay, but I didn't go.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, Hunter deeven go anyway, I was hungover. I
- 27:10Speaker 4: sent an alarm look up for the line. I was like,
- 27:12Speaker 4: no shot, and I was like, I'm watching highlights afterwards. Yeah,
- 27:17Speaker 4: and that's why I did.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Now I know, come back. I'm just saying, if.
- 27:21Speaker 1: You your fandom not just with the Nebraska basketball but
- 27:27Speaker 1: with all of your teams, I did you just you
- 27:29Speaker 1: just don't know how to be a true fan.
- 27:35Speaker 4: What. Okay, I end up watching every single play the
- 27:40Speaker 4: Huskers had, though.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I'm not I don't you did not watch it live?
- 27:45Speaker 2: You didn't watch it when it.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Was going on.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say too much because Austin's watched a
- 27:49Speaker 1: lot of games on tape delay Indiana.
- 27:52Speaker 3: I did watch the first half, and then I had
- 27:53Speaker 3: to go do something, so I recorded the second half.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Oh I did, but I didn't. I didn't know we won,
- 28:01Speaker 3: but I knew something crazy happened because my phono was
- 28:03Speaker 3: going nuts. But was like, I can't read any messages
- 28:05Speaker 3: until I went back.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I will say that's how Austin kind of lives his life.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I mean that he has very much been outspoken about that.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Will admit to it.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a I'm a little more accustomed to Austin being.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Do you.
- 28:21Speaker 3: On the other hand, I wasn't hungover taking a nap
- 28:25Speaker 3: being productive.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Was sh.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I just I just don't. I just I don't know.
- 28:31Speaker 2: You gotta do a little better, Dak.
- 28:33Speaker 4: I think I was this. I was pissed when I
- 28:37Speaker 4: woke up and saw what happened. I was like, God damn.
- 28:41Speaker 4: So then okay, how about this instead watching NFL?
- 28:44Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Your story is not adding up because earlier you just
- 28:47Speaker 1: said he woke up and said not happening and went
- 28:50Speaker 1: back to bed for your alarm. And now you're saying
- 28:52Speaker 1: you didn't wake up for your alarm happened.
- 28:55Speaker 4: No, I did wake up for my alarm. This would happened.
- 28:57Speaker 4: And I woke up and saw what happened on the
- 28:58Speaker 4: game on ESPN app I was like, well, I should
- 29:01Speaker 4: have woke up for that game. Great game, but here's
- 29:05Speaker 4: what I chose to watch, Husker highlights over didn't watch
- 29:07Speaker 4: the NFL playoff game. Watch Husker highlights instead for the
- 29:09Speaker 4: first part of over a random NFL game. Congrats, it
- 29:15Speaker 4: was a playoff game, Panthers rams. If anyone's wondering, unbelievable,
- 29:22Speaker 4: I forgive you, thank you.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I still just think you're the biggest fraud fan of
- 29:28Speaker 1: every team that you are. There's nothing, there's nothing that's
- 29:32Speaker 1: proven me that you're not.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Okay, fine, I'll say it now. Celtics are gonna win
- 29:39Speaker 4: it all and J. J. McCarthy's the best, gonna be
- 29:41Speaker 4: the best best quarterback in the league next year.
- 29:43Speaker 1: They Again, it means nothing to me because you're a
- 29:45Speaker 1: fan of both of those teams too.
- 29:48Speaker 4: You you admitted to me that the Celtics are one
- 29:50Speaker 4: team that I actually do follow.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Yeah, but you don't even watch them. The other night
- 29:55Speaker 1: they're playing somebody, and you went to bed at halftime.
- 29:58Speaker 3: No one watches NBA games, Hunter, that's just.
- 30:00Speaker 1: A I'm not I'm not an NBA fan either. I
- 30:04Speaker 1: don't really have a team. I admit that Dak just
- 30:08Speaker 1: thinks he's the biggest fan, but then he goes to bed.
- 30:10Speaker 1: If you were a fan of the Celtics, you would
- 30:12Speaker 1: not miss a game if you were.
- 30:16Speaker 4: I'm not going to watch all eighty two? Why not?
- 30:21Speaker 4: That's that's crazy. I'm not going to cancel planes on
- 30:24Speaker 4: like a random Wednesday night to go to They say
- 30:27Speaker 4: I got to watch Celtic games, a big game, like
- 30:32Speaker 4: a random hornet Celtics game.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie I would. I would do that
- 30:35Speaker 1: for every Nebraska football game.
- 30:36Speaker 3: There's only twelve of them.
- 30:37Speaker 4: That's different. That's different.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I watched every Nebraska basketball game.
- 30:42Speaker 4: That's still different. There's eighty two of these.
- 30:46Speaker 2: That's why I'm not.
- 30:47Speaker 1: That's why I don't claim to be an NBA fan,
- 30:50Speaker 1: but I do. Okay, let's move on to football here.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Unt's you guys got any other basketball conversation? I mean
- 31:00Speaker 1: I have got more, but we better move on.
- 31:02Speaker 4: What before we head off of what game? What's their
- 31:04Speaker 4: first loss? I have Minnesota.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Okay, you're right, we should talk about we should talk
- 31:08Speaker 3: about the upcoming week because the next two weeks are
- 31:12Speaker 3: going to be the the make or break because we
- 31:16Speaker 3: played Minnesota at home away, which I think is hard,
- 31:19Speaker 3: Michigan away, Illinois at home, and then I don't.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I don't have much of you guys. Got I just
- 31:24Speaker 2: I think we're not going to be Michigan.
- 31:27Speaker 3: I mean, I think I think you're right. I think
- 31:29Speaker 3: we'll get to Michigan and will probably lose.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I have Minnesota, which I am't moroving they're gonna
- 31:35Speaker 4: do yet looking ahead or are getting too hype yet,
- 31:37Speaker 4: but I think they'll be looking ahead of the Michigan
- 31:38Speaker 4: games in Minnesota.
- 31:40Speaker 3: They might be looking out, you know, ahead of Minnesota
- 31:42Speaker 3: at home to no joke, that's it.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Good to save your save yourself on this podcast. Please
- 31:58Speaker 1: update us on the wind in sports in Nebraska.
- 32:02Speaker 4: So here we go. But if there's fifteen women that
- 32:05Speaker 4: are listening to this podcast, there is a new sport
- 32:07Speaker 4: that nebrasai at. It's black football, and I'm guessing am
- 32:11Speaker 4: up in tryouts. I don't think they're recruiting for this
- 32:13Speaker 4: yet they might be who knows, but all the women
- 32:16Speaker 4: that listen this podcasts, go try out for this team
- 32:18Speaker 4: because because you probably have elgibillity left, so go go
- 32:20Speaker 4: play flight football for the women.
- 32:22Speaker 3: It sounded like they were they're starting to hire a
- 32:25Speaker 3: coach here in the next couple of weeks and then
- 32:26Speaker 3: they'll heavily recruit. But the first season is until twenty
- 32:29Speaker 3: twenty eight.
- 32:30Speaker 4: So where where are they playing these games at?
- 32:33Speaker 3: I imagine they're probably gonna play Oh, that's a good question.
- 32:39Speaker 3: It's in the spring. I doubt they play Memorial though.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Well they probably will. Yeah, no, they won't. That's way
- 32:44Speaker 3: too big of a venue. They'll probably play on the
- 32:47Speaker 3: soccer field. That like Hibner Stadium would be my guess,
- 32:50Speaker 3: because the that'd be my guess. I mean the men would.
- 32:54Speaker 3: We don't have a men's team and the women only
- 32:56Speaker 3: play in the fall for soccer.
- 32:59Speaker 4: So yeah, one other thing, Dak, I mean, I'm going
- 33:05Speaker 4: I'm going to at least no see that, I'll go.
- 33:12Speaker 4: I will go to one flag football game this year,
- 33:16Speaker 4: that's for sure.
- 33:17Speaker 2: You will. Yep, they don't play twenty twenty eight.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Good luck? Okay, Well, not this year. So next I
- 33:24Speaker 4: bet they'll do.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Some sort of something at the spring game, like the
- 33:27Speaker 3: halftime exhibition or something for school to announce a women's
- 33:33Speaker 3: playing football team. Oh good on.
- 33:40Speaker 1: DAK.
- 33:41Speaker 4: So do the man have to add it sports in
- 33:43Speaker 4: or they they let's.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Stop talking about women's flag football.
- 33:46Speaker 1: One other women's sport.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Dakkay women's college basketball?
- 33:51Speaker 2: Okay, well yeah, updates, Okay.
- 33:53Speaker 4: I have no idea. Okay, they almost beat Michigan State.
- 33:57Speaker 4: That's all tough.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Close loss to Michigan State, got blown up u c
- 34:00Speaker 3: l A. They've lost four now once they entered Big
- 34:03Speaker 3: ten play, they've only won two. They've gone two of six,
- 34:07Speaker 3: so a little bit of a tough start to Big
- 34:09Speaker 3: ten play. We're still ranked, but that I'll go away
- 34:11Speaker 3: here soon.
- 34:12Speaker 4: Britt Prince is very is very good. That's all good.
- 34:15Speaker 4: That's all.
- 34:15Speaker 3: That's the best player on the team. And preseason softball
- 34:23Speaker 3: number nine. So Jerdy Ball's return to the mound. Hopefully
- 34:28Speaker 3: it goes.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Well this scene.
- 34:32Speaker 4: Every sheet thinks they have a shot of winning at
- 34:34Speaker 4: all this year, that's all I know.
- 34:35Speaker 3: When I feel that was a preseason number nine, you
- 34:38Speaker 3: should feel.
- 34:38Speaker 2: That way, you should, Yeah, all right, transfer portal.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Let's dive into it, which ended I believe the sixteenth,
- 34:53Speaker 1: seventeenth of January here, so it's been closed for a
- 34:57Speaker 1: few days. So it's over and it's opening back up
- 35:01Speaker 1: until another year from now, I guess under the current.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Rules then, I don't know how that works. So Kenneth Williams,
- 35:11Speaker 3: I did he announce where he transferred to? I yeah, okay,
- 35:21Speaker 3: I must have missed that.
- 35:23Speaker 1: So yeah, there are a few guys right now that
- 35:25Speaker 1: are still unannounced. I'm not quite yet, quite sure how
- 35:32Speaker 1: that works. But currently we have sixteen guys incoming. There
- 35:41Speaker 1: are seventeen guys out going in the portals, so from
- 35:45Speaker 1: a number standpoint, pretty much a wash.
- 35:49Speaker 2: But we can kind of go through here position by position.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I don't I'm probably not going to go into all
- 35:58Speaker 1: the detailed names outside.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Of the the big one here at the quarterback, but
- 36:06Speaker 2: we'll start there. Danny Kleon and Dylan Royola out.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Danny Kalen's back, sorry, Danny kaln back.
- 36:15Speaker 1: The other other quarterback, Davilla is who I was thinking
- 36:19Speaker 1: it out there, the Royola and de Villa out, Danny
- 36:22Speaker 1: Kaylen and Clandria Anthony Landria in.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Probably a net loss.
- 36:32Speaker 4: So I was I was talking to my coworker yesterday
- 36:35Speaker 4: and he's his friend, lives right next to Danny Kleen
- 36:37Speaker 4: and he is back in on roll out just because
- 36:40Speaker 4: he thinks Danny Caalen is gonna start and like be
- 36:42Speaker 4: a super star here that guy. If you're listening, you're
- 36:44Speaker 4: completely wrong. That's not gonna happen. Whatever drugs you're taking,
- 36:50Speaker 4: I want those because that's that's crazy.
- 36:53Speaker 3: Overall, it's the net loss. It's surprising that Dylan committed
- 36:57Speaker 3: to Oregon because he's gonna he's gonna sit. He took
- 37:01Speaker 3: the money to sit for a year rather than play
- 37:03Speaker 3: for Nebrasko.
- 37:04Speaker 4: So I don't know the time my pants will be back.
- 37:07Speaker 3: If he knew Dante, I don't know if.
- 37:11Speaker 1: He is going to be sitting. I like it maybe, but.
- 37:18Speaker 3: You spend a year in the system before and then
- 37:20Speaker 3: you come out. Think it's a really good for him.
- 37:22Speaker 1: I think it's a smart move on Dylan's I not
- 37:24Speaker 1: that he decided to do it, but I think it's
- 37:26Speaker 1: it'll be really good for him to sit back and
- 37:28Speaker 1: watch for a year. As far as his future for
- 37:32Speaker 1: his dreams, I'm sure of playing in the NFL. I
- 37:34Speaker 1: think it will help him.
- 37:35Speaker 3: But that's what Dante Moore did and it worked out
- 37:37Speaker 3: pretty well for him.
- 37:38Speaker 1: A lot of these quarterbacks have done that a move,
- 37:41Speaker 1: so I think it's smart for him.
- 37:42Speaker 3: I think it's a good year to heal and get confident.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I think it came to a point that they knew
- 37:51Speaker 1: it would not work. I say, they both Rule and
- 37:55Speaker 1: staff and then Dylan and family.
- 37:59Speaker 3: I love the I love the leaks. Now you know
- 38:03Speaker 3: the it wasn't you know, really didn't leave us. It
- 38:06Speaker 3: was it was Rule. Actually, you know, I was like,
- 38:09Speaker 3: get out of here. Whatever breakup story. It's like, well, actually,
- 38:14Speaker 3: you know it was a mutual breakup. We you know,
- 38:16Speaker 3: she didn't break up with me. We both were you know.
- 38:19Speaker 3: It's like, okay, whatever, get out of here.
- 38:22Speaker 1: We really never got a statement or anything from Royal
- 38:25Speaker 1: or not that we deserve one. It is what it is.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Like.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I think that Royal is a pretty good quarterback. I
- 38:32Speaker 1: don't think he was a good fit here for for
- 38:37Speaker 1: multiple reasons. And we're moving up and we bringing Anthony
- 38:41Speaker 1: Calandria from un LB.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Your type of QBAT? What your type of QB?
- 38:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I'm excited for if I can the
- 39:00Speaker 1: type of QB. But I'm not like thrilled that he's
- 39:03Speaker 1: our quarterback next year, Like I'm not. I guess I'm
- 39:07Speaker 1: not thrilled about anything really with this football team. So
- 39:10Speaker 1: that's probably where everything's at, which maybe is good. No expectations.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Can you tell yourself that you keep telling you to
- 39:22Speaker 3: tell myself.
- 39:23Speaker 4: It's kind of sad to see which this is this
- 39:26Speaker 4: a pump hunter out there is how many fans that
- 39:29Speaker 4: talk to you just be like yeah, really out of
- 39:31Speaker 4: rule life. It just feels like it's it's over for
- 39:35Speaker 4: him already before the scenes even started, Like he's got it, He's.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Got to the seats warm.
- 39:43Speaker 1: Yeah, let's stay, let's stay on the portal talk here.
- 39:45Speaker 1: We'll get the coaches here in a second.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I mean Callandry. I think is a spark potentially that'll
- 39:56Speaker 2: give us a.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Hope. I think that's what where what the program needs.
- 40:04Speaker 1: He wasn't the top quarterback portal person to get here.
- 40:11Speaker 3: But we've had the top portal quarterback person before.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Has it worked?
- 40:14Speaker 3: Like has worked?
- 40:16Speaker 2: And when we say top based off of who like.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Right out of the three that I heard that were left,
- 40:21Speaker 4: uh Way Chiles and him, I think he's the best
- 40:24Speaker 4: out of those three that they were going to after.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Of course that's what you think. It's it's it's the best,
- 40:29Speaker 2: best one.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think before you knew Calandri got I don't know.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I guess my point saying that is is he's I
- 40:41Speaker 1: don't know, he's got some mobility to him, he's got
- 40:43Speaker 1: some gamer to him. He's got some.
- 40:47Speaker 2: To him, which for good or for bad, that is
- 40:50Speaker 2: what it is.
- 40:51Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 40:51Speaker 3: I mean, it's kind of a similar thing of what
- 40:56Speaker 3: basketball went through, where we've seen these older teams who
- 41:00Speaker 3: answer in proven guys from smaller conferences. You know, we're
- 41:03Speaker 3: seeing that in football now, and that's what Indiana did.
- 41:06Speaker 3: And I mean, he wasn't Mountain West Offensive Player of
- 41:08Speaker 3: the Year. So he has produced at a higher level
- 41:11Speaker 3: and always gonna be. But you feel better about it
- 41:15Speaker 3: that there's some actual production there.
- 41:18Speaker 4: And and here's the thing with him is we're not
- 41:20Speaker 4: gonna hear like Latif. With Latif, like, this guy's quick,
- 41:23Speaker 4: he can back, he can run around, do all this stuff,
- 41:25Speaker 4: he can slander, can actually move, He's he's a good runner.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Maybe we said that with Latif too, didn't we At
- 41:34Speaker 1: one point yeah, but Lati CALANDRAA, yeah, Calandra, there's actual
- 41:39Speaker 1: footage out there, like at the college latif at footage,
- 41:42Speaker 1: not the college level.
- 41:43Speaker 3: And yeah, exactly, not the college level when you're running
- 41:46Speaker 3: up against other high school kids.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I don't know there's an argument. I mean, yeah, Austin,
- 41:51Speaker 1: he made the points Mountain West at It's it's not
- 41:53Speaker 1: big ten, it's not power five. And that's where I'm like,
- 41:57Speaker 1: I don't know, like maybe it could look good.
- 42:00Speaker 2: You know, I think your offensive lineman and the and
- 42:02Speaker 2: the types.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Of players you're running around at U n LV is
- 42:05Speaker 1: different than than power five level.
- 42:08Speaker 2: I think that's a big, big conversation.
- 42:10Speaker 1: And your your offensive line and and all of that
- 42:13Speaker 1: is still a ginormous factor when it comes to.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Any quarterback, no matter what kind of quarterback you are.
- 42:24Speaker 3: So you've just seen you've seen this one work before.
- 42:27Speaker 3: You've seen it where these guys who do really well
- 42:30Speaker 3: at a different level move up and then it trans
- 42:36Speaker 3: translates a little more onto the field than those unknown
- 42:38Speaker 3: high school players.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Yeah, but you've also seen that work too.
- 42:42Speaker 1: So I think you've seen five star quarterbacks like Dylan
- 42:45Speaker 1: Ryol at work.
- 42:47Speaker 4: He is not he's not afraid of any pass to
- 42:49Speaker 4: throw out there. So there's gonna be some wow, there's
- 42:51Speaker 4: a lot of wild throws, and there's gonna be there's
- 42:53Speaker 4: gonna be some bad picks too. Like he's a gunslinger,
- 42:55Speaker 4: he's not afraid to throw it. So I don't know.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I just I mean, if I had to pick a type, yeah,
- 43:02Speaker 1: you hit, I think you hit the type the prototype
- 43:05Speaker 1: of a quarterback that I think helps and fits in Nebraska.
- 43:09Speaker 1: But as far as what actually gets produced, I don't know.
- 43:13Speaker 1: And I think a lot of that is going to
- 43:15Speaker 1: come down to the offensive line. And I kind of said,
- 43:19Speaker 1: that's the only big thing that will really get me
- 43:21Speaker 1: excited or jacked up.
- 43:23Speaker 3: So let's let's hear about this offensive line transfer. Portal
- 43:26Speaker 3: of the class.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Paul mcba the transfer from LSU.
- 43:32Speaker 1: We got Brendan Black from Iowa State Tree, Bob A.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Lade I've heard in names. That's a great offensive lineman names. Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 1: he's from South Carolina. Those are the big three that
- 43:47Speaker 1: are coming in. And then obviously the guys that have stayed,
- 43:51Speaker 1: uh and I'm from from the current roster for those
- 43:54Speaker 1: are the big three that we brought.
- 43:55Speaker 2: In in the portal.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Okay like my thought. My thought is I don't know
- 44:03Speaker 1: what I expected, like out of any offensive lineman portal
- 44:05Speaker 1: guys like that I would go nuts about.
- 44:08Speaker 2: I think it's good that we brought guys in and
- 44:11Speaker 2: it's good.
- 44:11Speaker 3: To get guys who have like I mean again power
- 44:14Speaker 3: for starting experience.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Yep, Like, I think that's good. I'm not going to
- 44:19Speaker 1: be thrilled about him until we see him play probably
- 44:22Speaker 1: our fourth game of the year because our first three
- 44:25Speaker 1: year Cup gigs. So it's one of those things that
- 44:29Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, I'm glad we got guys. I mean,
- 44:31Speaker 1: that's number one most important. We could have gotten none,
- 44:35Speaker 1: and that really would have I think, set rule packing.
- 44:41Speaker 1: But we got three guys, So I mean, I think
- 44:44Speaker 1: that that's good. We'll see how they are.
- 44:46Speaker 4: I I don't know.
- 44:49Speaker 1: That's that's my thought on them.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Yeah. I felt good about the class because you don't
- 44:56Speaker 3: need seven, but to get three guys who have started
- 45:00Speaker 3: called them started more than ten games, so I felt
- 45:04Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 45:06Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a lot of I'm not going in with
- 45:08Speaker 4: like last year, I think we're all hyped up by
- 45:10Speaker 4: of these recruits. Are these transport offense line coming? It
- 45:14Speaker 4: just proved it for me, I don't there's no expectations
- 45:16Speaker 4: on the line because because pressure will probably start too.
- 45:19Speaker 4: Don't you think he'll be those Yeah? Yeah, he definitely
- 45:24Speaker 4: will come back.
- 45:24Speaker 1: I saw some stuff on the projected offensive behind people
- 45:27Speaker 1: saying this group looks fire.
- 45:29Speaker 4: I'm like, and okay, well that's that's crazy.
- 45:32Speaker 3: But I mean, are the projecting these three Pritchard and
- 45:35Speaker 3: then Justin Evan Jenkins said the the starting five that
- 45:41Speaker 3: they're projecting. Do you think these guys are already going
- 45:43Speaker 3: to be three of the starters?
- 45:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think I don't remember exactly who
- 45:53Speaker 1: it was, but I think they didn't think that that's true.
- 45:59Speaker 4: So Hm, which which a year for pretty sure, I
- 46:02Speaker 4: think is gonna be a huge man.
- 46:03Speaker 3: I I mean, the big get in the offensive room
- 46:07Speaker 3: is getting Donnie out and Jeep weight in. That's the
- 46:11Speaker 3: that's the biggest offseason offensive line move.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Wide receiver. Other offensive guy Quasi Gilmour from U c
- 46:23Speaker 1: l A committing and I think he'll probably play a lot,
- 46:27Speaker 1: I would guess with with Dame Key graduating, and you know,
- 46:31Speaker 1: I think it's.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Good that we retained Cory and Isaiah Hunter.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I mean, those guys are they're solid like I don't
- 46:38Speaker 1: think they're and I don't think Quasi either.
- 46:41Speaker 4: Is a is a.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith type break breakout player. But I think they're
- 46:47Speaker 1: they're solid receivers. It's anything else on the offensive side
- 46:52Speaker 1: that you guys can.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Think good.
- 46:56Speaker 3: It's good to see that is I mean, obviously then
- 47:00Speaker 3: what our positions needs are, but it's reaffirming that we're
- 47:02Speaker 3: also seeing the same thing they're seeing. That we need quarterbacks,
- 47:06Speaker 3: a offensive lineman, and maybe get one ride receiver to
- 47:08Speaker 3: replace dan Key's production.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think we also thought when we went
- 47:13Speaker 1: through our needs, we batt listed every position. We did
- 47:17Speaker 1: not We did not bring in a running back. Just
- 47:19Speaker 1: throw that out there. We are developing in house. So defensively,
- 47:26Speaker 1: defensive line, I think was the conversation right O line
- 47:28Speaker 1: and D line, defensive lineman. We brought in the Sheer
- 47:32Speaker 1: Whittington from Pittsburgh. We brought in edge rusher Anthony Jones
- 47:36Speaker 1: from UCLA.
- 47:38Speaker 4: We brought in defensive.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Lineman Owen Stoudemier from Boston College.
- 47:46Speaker 3: I believe we had that guy from I A Western
- 47:48Speaker 3: who then decommitted after committee, and.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Yep, there's that guy.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Again.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I think the same story goes for a lot of
- 47:56Speaker 1: these guys also run out the defense. Here just seeing
- 48:00Speaker 1: Shiggs from say Towson, Yeah, that says Tewson. Safety Will
- 48:08Speaker 1: Hawthorne from Iowa State, linebacker one of our first commits,
- 48:12Speaker 1: Dexter Foster from Oregon State, Owen Shambliss from San Diego State,
- 48:18Speaker 1: and Victor Evans from Florida International.
- 48:23Speaker 2: I think some of these guys are gonna be playing.
- 48:25Speaker 2: I mean, here, here's the thing with the portal. A
- 48:26Speaker 2: lot of these guys you're bringing in to play, right,
- 48:30Speaker 2: You're not bringing in are you're bringing in to develop?
- 48:33Speaker 1: People aren't leading the portal to develop. They're coming to
- 48:36Speaker 1: try to get some minutes. And I think a lot
- 48:38Speaker 1: of these guys are going to play minutes. And that
- 48:39Speaker 1: that's not just Nebraska, that's everywhere. Uh And because if
- 48:43Speaker 1: they were to, if they were to be a development player,
- 48:45Speaker 1: I'll guess what they probably chanced. They are leaving transferring
- 48:48Speaker 1: the next year. So it's just it's just not very
- 48:52Speaker 1: common to transfer and develop.
- 48:56Speaker 3: It will see.
- 48:57Speaker 1: There's obviously a whole rabbit hole of conversations on the
- 49:02Speaker 1: defensive side that we go down with our new coordinator
- 49:06Speaker 1: and everything there, so again, we got new people in here.
- 49:12Speaker 2: The problem that I have with the current program at rule.
- 49:18Speaker 1: As he has not identified talent well at all from
- 49:21Speaker 1: a coach and and and I listened to Saban the
- 49:24Speaker 1: other day before the National Championship. You listen to Signette like,
- 49:27Speaker 1: they don't read into stars, they don't talk about recruiting
- 49:30Speaker 1: savings at the best. He's like, why are we listening
- 49:34Speaker 1: to people that aren't coaches that throw a number or
- 49:38Speaker 1: a rating or a star on somebody that don't even
- 49:40Speaker 1: coach football. He said, it's ridiculous that that's such a
- 49:43Speaker 1: big thing, but it is.
- 49:44Speaker 2: That's just part of it.
- 49:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Now, so so then that's something you can take that
- 49:49Speaker 1: comment and go, yeah, great, So our recruiting classes are
- 49:52Speaker 1: very good. Next year transfer portal, you know you see
- 49:54Speaker 1: three stars. Oh that's okay, we'll be fine. Well, the
- 49:57Speaker 1: problem is Rules not identified talent well at all, even
- 50:00Speaker 1: with stars. So like, I don't know, it just there's
- 50:03Speaker 1: not much there to get excited about in my mind.
- 50:08Speaker 1: But well, I guess we'll see come spring.
- 50:11Speaker 3: I mean, the only thing to I don't know if
- 50:13Speaker 3: it's worth yet. But as far as actual key players
- 50:17Speaker 3: who we lost, obviously we lost, Dylan Keona Davis, Malcolm
- 50:23Speaker 3: hard Talk, didn't play hardly at all last year. Kenneth
- 50:25Speaker 3: Williams probably the biggest loss the off season if you
- 50:28Speaker 3: exclude Ylan Riola. So I mean, whether that's good or bad,
- 50:34Speaker 3: I mean we.
- 50:35Speaker 4: Were Yeah, it's five team, But I was gonna say
- 50:38Speaker 4: it's that good or bad. They didn't lose a lot,
- 50:39Speaker 4: because that means a lot of these players think they're
- 50:43Speaker 4: going to play a game, and I don't just talent wise,
- 50:49Speaker 4: it's the good. The good part about the line is
- 50:51Speaker 4: I don't think it can get any worse than it
- 50:53Speaker 4: was last year. That was horandous.
- 50:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that's you're not wrong. I think the good sign
- 50:58Speaker 3: is is that Rule hasn't lost the locker room yet,
- 51:01Speaker 3: because if he has already lost the locker room, then
- 51:03Speaker 3: it's the were cooked.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Yeah, fire ship, everyone's gone. Yeah.
- 51:07Speaker 2: But to your point, maybe that's a bad thing if
- 51:09Speaker 2: they're not very good.
- 51:12Speaker 3: I don't know. We were the youngest team in the
- 51:13Speaker 3: Big Ten last year.
- 51:15Speaker 4: I think the biggest keep, which we're talking about defense now,
- 51:20Speaker 4: but the biggest keep of all of them wasn't Isaiah.
- 51:22Speaker 4: I'm really high on him.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Yeah, he was really good. We'll see I have a
- 51:28Speaker 3: good offensive line, gotta have a good defensive line. We
- 51:32Speaker 3: brought in potentially six starters for both those.
- 51:35Speaker 4: So yeah, well it feels like a lot, feels like
- 51:40Speaker 4: everything just like there's which I eventually picked up. It
- 51:44Speaker 4: always does, but there's just no who lay drinking so
- 51:47Speaker 4: far in the seed got it like, yeah it might.
- 51:50Speaker 3: I I don't know.
- 51:52Speaker 1: I don't.
- 51:53Speaker 2: It's not going through like normal years. I don't think.
- 51:55Speaker 4: I really don't.
- 51:58Speaker 1: As far as the picking up of the hype and hope,
- 52:00Speaker 1: I think that that was a challenge. We knew it
- 52:03Speaker 1: was going to be a challenge with how the year
- 52:04Speaker 1: ended last year. And then it's not like you can
- 52:08Speaker 1: look at it like that going into this year, right,
- 52:09Speaker 1: you can look at the schedule and go, oh yeah,
- 52:11Speaker 1: like look at this guy five pre season.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Top twenty five teams on our schedule.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Next year, you're gonna look at that and not be
- 52:18Speaker 1: I don't.
- 52:19Speaker 2: It's again, this could be okay and good because we're
- 52:23Speaker 2: setting the expectation. The bar so low.
- 52:27Speaker 3: I just the bar. You say that we're sitting an expectation,
- 52:29Speaker 3: but you know, we come out and we it's like, well,
- 52:32Speaker 3: we don't have an expectation, and we come out and
- 52:34Speaker 3: we win, we go four and one, and you then
- 52:38Speaker 3: you lose it. Like you say that there's no expectation,
- 52:41Speaker 3: but there is. You you expect that there is.
- 52:43Speaker 1: But ask ask thee to what Dak's point is. I mean,
- 52:47Speaker 1: I'm talking about the casual fan. Ask the casual fan
- 52:50Speaker 1: how many games we're gonna win next year? No one,
- 52:52Speaker 1: no one is going to say nine or ten.
- 52:55Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're still gonna be pissed when we don't.
- 52:57Speaker 3: That's the thing.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Yes, I would I wouldn't say pissed. I think people
- 53:05Speaker 1: are going to be not pissed at the season itself.
- 53:08Speaker 1: They're going to be mad at him as a whole
- 53:11Speaker 1: that the program isn't at nine or ten.
- 53:13Speaker 2: I don't think at the season.
- 53:14Speaker 1: If you're isolating everything out of the out of, out
- 53:18Speaker 1: of going into this next year, people would not be
- 53:20Speaker 1: pissed if they did not win nine or ten games.
- 53:23Speaker 2: They're just upset the whole program as a whole.
- 53:27Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know to say there's no expectations, I
- 53:30Speaker 3: don't think it's true, because if he doesn't win eight games,
- 53:32Speaker 3: people are going to be fire him.
- 53:34Speaker 1: But if they're truly expectation, say hype. Maybe Dak's talking
- 53:39Speaker 1: about the expectations good.
- 53:43Speaker 4: I think a seven five year next year I'll feel
- 53:45Speaker 4: lot different than this year. Seven five this year was rough.
- 53:48Speaker 3: Yeah, you at least had dillaner will get hurt. So
- 53:51Speaker 3: there's like a little bit of a okay, well.
- 53:54Speaker 1: But that's what sucks.
- 53:55Speaker 2: I mean that, you're right.
- 53:56Speaker 1: I think seven and five next year would tell me
- 53:59Speaker 1: right now on June twenty first, seven and five, I'm
- 54:02Speaker 1: going probably had a.
- 54:04Speaker 3: Year that means me be everyone that we should have been.
- 54:07Speaker 1: That sucks. That sucks like that shouldn't be the case
- 54:10Speaker 1: right now.
- 54:11Speaker 2: That's the problem is that you shouldn't be saying that.
- 54:14Speaker 1: But I don't think anybody would be surprising us at
- 54:17Speaker 1: a six and six year next year, right that. That's yeah,
- 54:22Speaker 1: like like that, But where do you draw the line
- 54:24Speaker 1: and stop on on? The program's not in a good spot,
- 54:27Speaker 1: and you know that's the conversation. Last piece of conversation
- 54:31Speaker 1: here to go along with all of this. Officially announced
- 54:35Speaker 1: yesterday that Mike Eckler is going to USC Yeah.
- 54:39Speaker 3: We kind of saw this when Kenneth Williams entered the portal.
- 54:42Speaker 1: It's like, Okay, so I think this is a pretty
- 54:46Speaker 1: big deal. Now we've all, mean all of us have
- 54:48Speaker 1: been big Eckler guys. A lot of the Husker national
- 54:52Speaker 1: media people are brushing it off like it's I mean,
- 54:54Speaker 1: it's a big deal, but they're not making it a
- 54:56Speaker 1: big deal type of thing, like from the vibes I've
- 54:59Speaker 1: been hearing some of your podcasts. Like us, the people
- 55:03Speaker 1: that are a little bit more or less credentialed and
- 55:07Speaker 1: publicized are taking I think more of the stance of it.
- 55:10Speaker 2: It's a big deal.
- 55:11Speaker 4: I this is not good.
- 55:13Speaker 2: You know, at the highest of levels.
- 55:17Speaker 1: He was the biggest hey in the Special Teams unit,
- 55:20Speaker 1: was the biggest bright side of this team last year.
- 55:24Speaker 2: And say it from what it was. He came in
- 55:28Speaker 2: and took something that was basically destroyed, so it couldn't
- 55:31Speaker 2: have got worse, but made it into a very serviceable
- 55:34Speaker 2: and i'd say strong unit.
- 55:36Speaker 4: Now, was it.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Absolutely excellent all twelve games, No, but it was. It
- 55:42Speaker 1: was a solid eight eight out of ten, I would say,
- 55:44Speaker 1: in most aspects. And we even said it won us
- 55:47Speaker 1: two games early in the year. Special Teams itself won
- 55:50Speaker 1: us two games that we haven't in the past, and
- 55:55Speaker 1: that was thanks to Mike Eckler and his knowledge of
- 55:59Speaker 1: special teams.
- 56:00Speaker 2: The caveat that I'll throw in here and then I'll
- 56:02Speaker 2: let you guys run with it. It sounds like he
- 56:05Speaker 2: wanted to be a position coach.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Potentially, I haven't really heard, but that's pretty much the
- 56:11Speaker 1: vibes is that with Rob Arch coming in as defensive
- 56:14Speaker 1: coordinator and kind of during all that, Eckler coached the edges.
- 56:18Speaker 1: You know, he has a background of coaching positions, the linebackers,
- 56:25Speaker 1: you know a while ago, kind of wanted to take
- 56:27Speaker 1: that next step and basically wasn't allowed to do so
- 56:31Speaker 1: because it's crazy if Arch full autonomy and his staff,
- 56:36Speaker 1: which he didn't do with John Butler and kind of
- 56:41Speaker 1: pushed upon some coaches there with John Butler, which obviously
- 56:44Speaker 1: didn't work out either, So gave Arch full full freedom.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Arch wanted to bring his own guys, did not want
- 56:53Speaker 1: to retain Eckler. Eckler said, all right, well then I'm gone.
- 56:57Speaker 1: At the same time, Eckler wasn't hired here to do
- 56:59Speaker 1: a position coach. It's tired to be our special teams coach.
- 57:02Speaker 1: So that's where the well, if you want to do more,
- 57:05Speaker 1: that's not what we hired you here for On the
- 57:08Speaker 1: flip side of that, I think he's.
- 57:12Speaker 2: A damn good football coach, not special teams coach.
- 57:14Speaker 1: And man, keep that guy here anyway, I think you can.
- 57:20Speaker 2: And that's my thought. Just weird dynamic.
- 57:25Speaker 4: I don't. It is just strange.
- 57:28Speaker 3: It's not good.
- 57:28Speaker 4: It is not good.
- 57:31Speaker 2: We're all will our special teams fall back to pre
- 57:34Speaker 2: Echler level?
- 57:34Speaker 4: God? I hope not.
- 57:37Speaker 3: That is a loss.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I really hope we learned something from him and we
- 57:42Speaker 1: can retain pieces of it.
- 57:45Speaker 3: Was he the juice or did he teach the Jews?
- 57:48Speaker 4: Right?
- 57:52Speaker 3: Yeah? I sent a text after once Kenneth enter the portal,
- 57:58Speaker 3: I kind of I was like, Okay, you know, he's
- 58:00Speaker 3: probably gone, and then this in conduction. You didn't mention
- 58:04Speaker 3: it yet. But the defensive line coach did get hired.
- 58:08Speaker 3: I can't think of his name or where he was.
- 58:10Speaker 3: He was like at Miami of Ohio. Maybe I don't
- 58:12Speaker 3: remember where he was coaching prior.
- 58:14Speaker 4: I think, yeah, I think it's so wide.
- 58:17Speaker 3: But the fact that we we drug our we didn't
- 58:20Speaker 3: drag our feet.
- 58:21Speaker 4: You know.
- 58:21Speaker 3: The rumor was we were waiting to hire a D coach,
- 58:23Speaker 3: D line coach from a team was still in the playoffs,
- 58:27Speaker 3: but then we ended up hiring a guy from you know, Maction,
- 58:32Speaker 3: the MAC Conference. I think I can't remember exactly where
- 58:35Speaker 3: he coached, but is of that level of conference. After basically,
- 58:39Speaker 3: you know, two months of looking for a D line coach,
- 58:45Speaker 3: it just didn't feel good. Is just I'm not saying
- 58:49Speaker 3: I'm not a Hunter level of I'm out un rule,
- 58:52Speaker 3: But I did say it's like I could I could
- 58:55Speaker 3: see the seat warming this. Those are just two fouam
- 58:59Speaker 3: wins on the coaching staff. Now, if he comes out
- 59:01Speaker 3: and you know, Bobby leads their defense and he's a stud,
- 59:05Speaker 3: it's like, okay, well maybe and Jeep weight or offensive
- 59:08Speaker 3: hans better. You know, it might have been a wash.
- 59:12Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 59:14Speaker 3: Those two things that happening in the off late in
- 59:16Speaker 3: the off season don't does not feel good to me
- 59:20Speaker 3: at all.
- 59:22Speaker 4: I'm I'm getting on the side of Hunter, like I'm
- 59:25Speaker 4: out of rules. Especially is at Eckler loss. You you
- 59:29Speaker 4: got to find anyone to keep that guy. Like if
- 59:31Speaker 4: he says you want to coach linebacker, who gets let
- 59:33Speaker 4: me coach linebackers. I don't care as much as he did.
- 59:36Speaker 4: That was the only position group that we all came
- 59:38Speaker 4: out of here like, Okay, wow, they improved there the
- 59:40Speaker 4: special teams, and to let that guy go I think
- 59:44Speaker 4: is just crazy. Now. Now, maybe he really wanted to
- 59:47Speaker 4: go to the USC and he's like, I'm leaving, but
- 59:50Speaker 4: who knows. And also there's one more strike I wanted
- 59:52Speaker 4: to talk about later on that kissed me off at him.
- 59:56Speaker 4: But we'll say that for the end. It's about the
- 59:58Speaker 4: spring game. Go ahead, all right, Rule you dumb, you idiot?
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: Why are you having the springing on March twenty eighth.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: It's gonna be like twenty degrees. This is for me personally,
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: but there's gonna it's I loved it. When it's middle
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: of April. I'm glad to bring it back. Okay, that's
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: March twenty eighth. It's still gonna be freezing cold that day.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: It's gonna suck that.
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know. It was like seventy degrees on Christmas.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: I don't want to clip dack saying rule you dumb
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: idiot and just get that blasted everywhere.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: That. I'm glad to bring it back because that is
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: a fun day.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: But in the middle of April, Eckler did leave for
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: US theater and the coldest week of the year. So
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: if southern California is calling your name and it's like,
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: you know, six degrees out in the morning, it's like,
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: I don't know, maybe this is the right call, uh
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: as as.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: We're just talking here, and it goes to a conversation
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: of hyper expectations or whatever it is. Jackson, who's been
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: on the podcast a few times, said, just said, what
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: else can we do for fall or for fun in
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: the fall? I've never been so turned off just interested
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: in the Braska football in my life.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: I'm so sad, like bs that man's watching every game.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Okay, I don't think you guys, are I only Austin.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: I like the level of this is coming from, like
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: diehard fans will watch.
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: Every game because we're fans, is what we do.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: But but but there's there's levels and there's scales of
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: it all. It's yeah, it is, it is very this
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: I'll like, I'll say it, like, have I been excited
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: to do this freaking podcast? The last talk about football?
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: And the podcast absolutely not, Like there's just not a
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: lot of it's not and I don't enjoy it's not
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: fun anymore. And and the word I guess that start
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: bringing it around is apathy, like it just don't care
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: as much anymore. Are we gonna watch the games, Yes,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: but as far as the level of interest and investment
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: and time and and no, people are just gonna stop caring.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: This is coming from very passionate fans. Think about the
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: casual fans.
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: Oh they're out, yeah, and when and when you.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Say out, it's not that they dislike the team, it's
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: just they don't care anymore. Again, I put it on
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: a different level. My brother is a is a great
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: example of He enjoys Husker football like he enjoys going
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: to the games. He has the past fifteen years. But
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: it's funny over the last fifteen years, how now I
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: see him how he'd used it doesn't really care like
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: he just see he's he's he.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: On a Saturday. Is he trying to like put his
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: invest his whole day around it.
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: No, he's not.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: Would did he ten years ago?
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: Part it was?
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: It just now it's just eh, it's on. I just
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: that's an example of how people are just becoming like, eh,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: like whatever, I'm not we will never well that Osco
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Austin watches on tape record now you didn't used to
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: do that, so we know how datake. So uh, it
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: just it's one of those things. It just people are
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: gonna see more apathy towards Husk football going into this
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: year and now to the point about why are basketball
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: team is so good? Apathy helped them win.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: There's there's but you can't. Apathy is not something you
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: can say I don't if you if you verbally say
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I don't care about hus your football, you still care.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Apathy is like the concept of you don't care because
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: you're like you're not even talking about it. You're not
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: you're not pissed off about it, you're not emotional towards it.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: You're just like not talking about it. Like that's what
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: apathy is. The fact that we're talking about it shows
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: that we still care. But that's kind of what that's
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: rapathy is you just don't care anymore. If you're pissed off,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: it's not you don't have apathy.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: That's true.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: You know, if you're if you're if you're commenting about
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: it weekly with people, and yep, piss that you're not,
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: you're not apathetic. Apathetic is truly like you can't say
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: you're being apathetic.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Well, you know, just let mister Weeks know. There's plenty
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: of nice things to do in the fall. The weather's beautiful,
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: get outside, go for some walks in nature. There's tons
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: of you know, activities. There's all these fairs and fall festivals.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Plenty of things to do on the weekend.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: I'll tell them to reach out to Austin.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: We can hang out.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: Here's here's the thing is as soon as ashames it's
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: usually I don't know what you guys is. I'm like, God,
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: can't wait for the next gosketball season? Now, just like.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: That, that's you what Austin's at the top of this podcast.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: I didn't care about the end of the just that
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: it's now.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: I did say that, but after our Bowl loss, I
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: told Eddie is like, I'm ready to be hurt again
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: next year. That is exactly what I said.
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Now, Now it could be that we all I think
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: the Mastadon has a lot to do things. And then
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: we had back too Worldar two instead of just waiting
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: a football start a lot.
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: I don't really care about the overall college football landscape.
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: I will say that I love Nebraska football. I'll pay it,
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: would you in Nebraska football. Yes, the same reason why
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: I have not paid attention to the top ten basketball's
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: teams for a long time. But now I'm like, oh shit,
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: I was State lost to this week. I wouldn't have
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: cared before, but I was.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: Like, I don't. I kind of went through there Austin
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: like I wasn't like jacked up for the title game
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: this year. I didn't or even playoff games like I
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: wasn't too invested.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Well, they weren't great games either. I mean, Indiana actually
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: freaking cooked everyone, so that doesn't help either.
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: But and yeah, that that could be a lot to
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: do with the Huskers just aren't relevant. Really, Okay, last.
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: Thing, I know, we're about to leave, but I forgot
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: as the basketball point, what a great season to not
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: be a Jaysker. I mean, all those jass trying to
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: come over. I hate out of here. I get if
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: we if we make it to the final four, it's like, sure,
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: I'll let you be, Like I hope Nebraska. I don't
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: want to hear a lock of it until in the tournament.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: It's great because you live in Omaha, and like I
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: used to, it's funny down here. You're kind of like
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: oblivious to it all like, because we're not around there,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: but you're pre you're paying around more people. Oh man,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I didn't see I see a little bit on social media.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: I think those people are just the worst people in
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: the world.
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: So I'm you know, I I ultimately have the sentiment of, yeah,
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: if you're from Omaha, you know the creating blue Jays
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: only have a basketball team. Okay, maybe, but if you're
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: coming over to Nebraska basketball and the Blue Jays are bad, no,
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: get out uninterested. Try again next year.
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: A lot of a lot of greaton fans that are
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: jumping over now with Austin.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Why are they?
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: No? Do you know a lot of people that are.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: Oh, I know a lot that are actively paying attention
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: to Nebraska's rankings. I don't know a ton. I mean,
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: I can't say I hang out with that many Jayskers
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: because I you know, they try to pick my company. Well,
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: but you know they're they're watching Nebraska basketball games, which
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: I don't think they ever did in the past.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: All right, if they're listening, you're not welcome here, all right, Well,
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: be back next week hopefully.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Nebraska is an eleven and a half point favorite tonight
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: eight pm Central Time against Washington.
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: Let's move to nineteen to oh over here gbrttrack.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: And ting a
