- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello and welcome everybody to episode 154 of Cards and Categories.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I am Mike Kulard from Baseball Prospectus, joined per usual
- 0:24Speaker 1: by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer from Ras Ball.
- 0:28Speaker 1: How you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Not too bad. I was going to complain about your
- 0:31Speaker 2: hat not being on straight. Get it sideways and we'll
- 0:36Speaker 2: get the umpire out to get that fixed for you.
- 0:39Speaker 2: But no, doing well. Excited to be here. We've got
- 0:43Speaker 2: a fun podcast tonight. Talk a lot of baseball cards.
- 0:46Speaker 2: We've talked a lot of free agency news recently, not
- 0:49Speaker 2: free agency, but just news in general, trade news, injury news.
- 0:53Speaker 2: So I'm excited for a baseball card podcast tonight.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. That is what we're going to be focusing
- 0:58Speaker 1: on this week. As you probably noticed, it was a long,
- 1:03Speaker 1: long name of this podcast wherever you were downloading it.
- 1:07Speaker 1: It's a double feature, double barreled action. We're going to
- 1:09Speaker 1: do the release of 2026 Bowman Chrome. And we're also
- 1:15Speaker 1: going to do the wrap-up of the August Player of
- 1:17Speaker 1: the Month PC picks. So both kind of hit in
- 1:20Speaker 1: the same week. We are speaking on September 9th on
- 1:23Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome release date. So we will actually have some
- 1:27Speaker 1: more information in terms of cards that have come out,
- 1:29Speaker 1: seeing them on eBay that it's not like when we're
- 1:31Speaker 1: flying blind a week before, but if you're out there
- 1:35Speaker 1: ripping some good luck to you should be fun. And
- 1:37Speaker 1: hopefully our overview view didn't come to you too late,
- 1:40Speaker 1: but like you said, we're not really going to do
- 1:42Speaker 1: much of a news and notes section because unless you
- 1:45Speaker 1: were Doug Eddings, you probably didn't really, there wasn't really
- 1:47Speaker 1: anything that happened that was too significant. You know, overall
- 1:52Speaker 1: there's been a handful of injuries, but I think you're
- 1:54Speaker 1: also getting to the point at this point, stage in
- 1:57Speaker 1: the game from the fantasy side, second week of September,
- 2:00Speaker 1: anybody with any injury in a redraft league is cuttable
- 2:03Speaker 1: at this point that, you know, especially if they're hitting
- 2:06Speaker 1: the IL the way jazz Chisholm did this afternoon, that
- 2:10Speaker 1: if he's out two weeks, uh, you're looking at maybe
- 2:14Speaker 1: a week left. And even if it's, uh, with them
- 2:17Speaker 1: coming back and almost kind of rehabbing through games, the
- 2:19Speaker 1: way Aaron judges right now, it might not be the
- 2:22Speaker 1: best production anyway. So, uh, yeah, focus on Stack in
- 2:27Speaker 1: as many Athletics and Rockies, I think, as you can
- 2:29Speaker 1: is the way that you're going to want to approach
- 2:30Speaker 1: the last month and then let it ride from there.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So speaking of Athletics, though, that is one of our,
- 2:36Speaker 1: the one piece of news I want to cover because
- 2:38Speaker 1: I think this is significant enough. We should touch on
- 2:42Speaker 1: it before we get into our Bowman Chrome overview because
- 2:47Speaker 1: Leo Dallas DeVries is going down with a shoulder injury,
- 2:51Speaker 1: going to undergo the knife on his right labrum for...
- 2:56Speaker 1: a general surgery on that shoulder and it is going
- 2:59Speaker 1: to keep him out. It says eight months right now
- 3:02Speaker 1: for the timeline, but this can also, it can really vary.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I think that eight months is usually the rough estimate,
- 3:08Speaker 1: but you know, it could turn into 10 or 12 months.
- 3:12Speaker 1: If things don't go right in terms of the recovery,
- 3:15Speaker 1: it is going to wrap up the season, obviously for
- 3:17Speaker 1: Leo Dallas DeVries there. I guess I should call him
- 3:20Speaker 1: Leo DeVries. That is really what he goes by now,
- 3:23Speaker 1: but he hit eight. 290, 378, 458 with a 116
- 3:28Speaker 1: WRC plus and AA 100 or with just 93 games,
- 3:33Speaker 1: 428 plate appearances with 13 homers and 34 stolen bases.
- 3:38Speaker 1: A nice little 21% K rate with an 11% walk rate.
- 3:43Speaker 1: We're showing lots of great skills as a switch hitter. Obviously,
- 3:47Speaker 1: that is a little bit more of a muted WRC
- 3:49Speaker 1: plus for that stat line than you'd expect. But given
- 3:52Speaker 1: the minor league environment this year, there's a lot of
- 3:55Speaker 1: mental gymnastics you have to do with some of the
- 3:57Speaker 1: batting lines anyway because of the ball that has been
- 4:00Speaker 1: below AAA all season that all of the numbers from AA,
- 4:05Speaker 1: single A, high A, rookie ball are skewed pretty horribly
- 4:09Speaker 1: for batters. So something to keep in mind also when
- 4:12Speaker 1: you're evaluating pitchers in the offseason. But the big key
- 4:16Speaker 1: here was DeVries was 19 the entire time at AA,
- 4:19Speaker 1: which is not something you see very often. He's risen
- 4:22Speaker 1: very rapidly through the minor leagues and But this will
- 4:26Speaker 1: put a pause on it because it is going to
- 4:27Speaker 1: be really difficult, I think, for DeVries to make a
- 4:30Speaker 1: debut next year. Look at just Sebastian Walcott, for example,
- 4:34Speaker 1: who got to AA last year, underwent the Tommy John
- 4:37Speaker 1: surgery and has kind of followed a similar path, is
- 4:41Speaker 1: just now getting close to being able to be called
- 4:45Speaker 1: up to the bigs in terms of timeline for performance
- 4:48Speaker 1: and recovery from that injury. So with DeVries, this is
- 4:51Speaker 1: a pretty significant injury. I think it's more significant than
- 4:55Speaker 1: Walcott's Tommy John injury because you're talking about a shoulder
- 4:58Speaker 1: labrum and especially your throwing arm for a guy who
- 5:02Speaker 1: he was already probably going to move off his shortstop.
- 5:04Speaker 1: But I think this probably secures that he's moving off
- 5:07Speaker 1: a shortstop. So what is your take on DeVries going forward?
- 5:10Speaker 1: How much does a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery like
- 5:13Speaker 1: this scare you in terms of long-term projection?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I think... From a pure hitter perspective, it doesn't
- 5:21Speaker 2: concern me too terribly much because it is more of
- 5:23Speaker 2: a throwing issue with the labrum. So to your point,
- 5:27Speaker 2: if he doesn't stick at short, he moves over to
- 5:30Speaker 2: second base or something like that, then I don't think
- 5:34Speaker 2: that's going to have as big of an impact. Probably
- 5:36Speaker 2: what this does change is I think he was a
- 5:39Speaker 2: legitimate option in spring training next year. He was probably
- 5:42Speaker 2: one of the top few prospects in the league. And
- 5:45Speaker 2: with the athletics, they have a strong lineup going into
- 5:48Speaker 2: next year. They're all hurt right now. And so that
- 5:52Speaker 2: doesn't make it seem that way. But I think what
- 5:55Speaker 2: this does is it tells the athletics, hey, let's pump
- 5:57Speaker 2: the brakes. Let's get this guy healthy because you don't
- 5:59Speaker 2: want to be messing with this. And they want to
- 6:01Speaker 2: figure out what kind of team they truly have next year.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So they're going to let Kurtz and Langeleers and Wilson
- 6:06Speaker 2: and Rooker and Soderstrom, the whole group, get healthy and
- 6:09Speaker 2: start to play and kind of see where everybody falls.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And then I think DeVries, I expect him back, but
- 6:15Speaker 2: I expect him like DH-ing. He's going to be coming
- 6:17Speaker 2: in and DH-ing in spring and for the first few
- 6:20Speaker 2: months of the season as he builds that arm back up.
- 6:23Speaker 2: And then they're going to get him into game action.
- 6:26Speaker 2: And so I do see potential for him to be
- 6:29Speaker 2: making his major league debut, I'd say early summer next year. Uh,
- 6:33Speaker 2: it's probably the best case scenario, but it is going
- 6:35Speaker 2: to be an injury that is pretty significant. It takes
- 6:37Speaker 2: some time to recover from, from a throwing perspective. So
- 6:40Speaker 2: like I said, I'm fine with his long-term hitter outlook.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I don't think it really changes much. He's still one
- 6:44Speaker 2: of the best out there, but I think it pushes
- 6:47Speaker 2: that timeline out. Uh, whereas I think it was legitimate, uh,
- 6:50Speaker 2: opening day discussion next year, whereas now give me a
- 6:53Speaker 2: June 1st type of discussion. And he might not be
- 6:55Speaker 2: fully in the field at that point. He might be
- 6:57Speaker 2: kind of playing the DH, uh, trying to work back
- 7:00Speaker 2: for it to full strength.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's very fair that I think the
- 7:03Speaker 1: biggest impact probably is in 2027 that unfortunately you just
- 7:07Speaker 1: got to. I don't even know if in a dynasty
- 7:10Speaker 1: keeper situation, I'm relying on DeVries much for next year,
- 7:14Speaker 1: because like you said, I think he could be back.
- 7:16Speaker 1: But there's also going to be a lot of caution
- 7:18Speaker 1: after the surgery that there's going to be a lot
- 7:21Speaker 1: of reason for the A's to keep Leo Dulles DeVries
- 7:24Speaker 1: at AAA. I mean, he's probably going to maybe even
- 7:28Speaker 1: see a little bit of AA again next year just
- 7:30Speaker 1: to get his feet wet. But I think there's enough
- 7:33Speaker 1: question marks where certainly I think in a dynasty keeper situation,
- 7:37Speaker 1: if you were on a trajectory where 2027 was a
- 7:41Speaker 1: year you're going to start going in, which maybe also
- 7:44Speaker 1: would have been a little questionable given some of the
- 7:46Speaker 1: offseason things we're going to go through with this CBA.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But I'm still pretty hopeful we're not going to really
- 7:51Speaker 1: miss any time. So with that, like maybe if you
- 7:56Speaker 1: have DeVries in a situation where he was going to
- 7:59Speaker 1: be a middle infield, piece for you going into 2027
- 8:03Speaker 1: you might have to rework that and maybe see if
- 8:05Speaker 1: you can move DeVries to be able to match up
- 8:08Speaker 1: with your timeline a little bit better but I think
- 8:11Speaker 1: in the long term honestly it's it's going to help
- 8:14Speaker 1: that he did this at the end of this year
- 8:17Speaker 1: anything that happens I think for DeVries next year if
- 8:20Speaker 1: it's a poor performance it's almost oh he gets a
- 8:22Speaker 1: mulligan from me because like coming back from a surgery
- 8:25Speaker 1: like this I would totally understand if if the power
- 8:29Speaker 1: doesn't fully pop back, if the strikeouts climb, if the
- 8:32Speaker 1: plate discipline kind of degrades a little bit as he's
- 8:36Speaker 1: struggling through all of that. So if anything, DeVries does
- 8:40Speaker 1: get that mulligan because I will write off anything that
- 8:43Speaker 1: happens negatively as the shoulder injury. But yeah, if he
- 8:48Speaker 1: does come back and look healthy, he is 19, so
- 8:52Speaker 1: he should be spry and the body should be able
- 8:54Speaker 1: to recover much more quickly. And I think the other
- 8:58Speaker 1: nice thing you like to see here is this is
- 8:59Speaker 1: not a chronic issue that we've been aware of so far.
- 9:03Speaker 1: You know, it's not like Aiden Miller's back that scares
- 9:07Speaker 1: just the ever living crap out of me. This is
- 9:09Speaker 1: like a, Hey, he injured his shoulder. He banged it up.
- 9:12Speaker 1: He's getting it cleaned up. They're doing this right during
- 9:14Speaker 1: the off season, letting him rest and rehab while he's
- 9:17Speaker 1: got the time. So I think unless something starts going awry,
- 9:21Speaker 1: that's when you start kind of questioning the long-term trajectory
- 9:26Speaker 1: here for DeVries.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with, you know, I know we've joked on
- 9:29Speaker 2: this podcast about my playing days. This is actually an
- 9:32Speaker 2: injury I had. I had this surgery myself.
- 9:35Speaker 1: This is this.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yes. And so I actually had this. I did this
- 9:38Speaker 2: plus rotator cuff the same time for fun. But it
- 9:42Speaker 2: was like a nine month recovery. It was a longer recovery.
- 9:46Speaker 2: That's but that's where I said, like, you're hitting can
- 9:47Speaker 2: come back. It's just the building of the arm strength,
- 9:49Speaker 2: which is the issue with this one. But it doesn't
- 9:52Speaker 2: tend to be the same reoccurring type of thing that
- 9:54Speaker 2: you would see with an elbow or something like that,
- 9:57Speaker 2: or other type of shoulder injuries like the rotator cuff.
- 9:59Speaker 1: So.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Labrum was a little bit more manageable. Of the bad
- 10:04Speaker 2: things to have, it's one of the better ones.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Yeah. And I mean, honestly, he was going to have
- 10:09Speaker 1: to slot in at second base for the A's in
- 10:11Speaker 1: 27 anyway, because I think Jacob Wilson has shortstop locked
- 10:14Speaker 1: down and Gelof has probably got third base locked down
- 10:17Speaker 1: for the long term as well. So, yeah, just might
- 10:20Speaker 1: make that a little bit different for the trajectory if
- 10:23Speaker 1: you were counting on DeVries as a shortstop and not
- 10:26Speaker 1: a second base option. So something to keep in mind. OK, well,
- 10:30Speaker 1: that's the one piece of news we have. Let's get
- 10:32Speaker 1: into 2026 Bowman Chrome. which, I mean, I guess this
- 10:35Speaker 1: is technically a little bit of news as well as
- 10:37Speaker 1: we're speaking on release date, September 9th right now. If
- 10:41Speaker 1: you are looking at the show details, go into those
- 10:44Speaker 1: show notes, click on the related link that will go
- 10:47Speaker 1: to the Raswell post. You're about to see the most
- 10:50Speaker 1: absurd looking cards and categories Raswell post that has ever
- 10:53Speaker 1: gone up because it's not only going to have all
- 10:55Speaker 1: the Bowman Chrome preview photos, but it's also going to
- 10:58Speaker 1: have our player of the month PC picks from August.
- 11:01Speaker 1: So it's going to be cards on cards when you
- 11:03Speaker 1: get to that set of show notes and the related
- 11:07Speaker 1: post on Razzball. So check that out. It'll help you
- 11:10Speaker 1: along as we're talking about these cards, just to get
- 11:13Speaker 1: a sense of what they look like in addition to
- 11:16Speaker 1: how we describe them. So yeah, we're talking about one
- 11:20Speaker 1: of the major releases, I think, on the baseball card calendar.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Really what Bowman Chrome is especially known for nowadays is
- 11:26Speaker 1: that This is where we get all of the January
- 11:30Speaker 1: signing period guys that were big names and came across
- 11:34Speaker 1: for multi-million dollars and have been playing in the DSL
- 11:38Speaker 1: all summer. On top of it, though, it also makes
- 11:40Speaker 1: it a little bit more of a difficult chase product
- 11:44Speaker 1: because I think you can always find the good prospects
- 11:48Speaker 1: to approach that are coming from those lists. But a
- 11:51Speaker 1: lot of these guys, you know, they're 17, 18 years old.
- 11:55Speaker 1: They're maybe five to eight years away from making the majors.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And because of that, there's also like pop-up guys constantly.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So that's something to kind of keep in mind. And
- 12:06Speaker 1: I think what people do with Bowman Chrome is they
- 12:07Speaker 1: will stash away a lot of the prospects that are
- 12:10Speaker 1: not selling for big dollars initially because if they can
- 12:13Speaker 1: mature and work their way through minor league systems, who
- 12:16Speaker 1: knows what they might uncover in the future. The other
- 12:19Speaker 1: factor too is it's all Chrome cards. So it's not
- 12:21Speaker 1: like Bowman release in the spring where you also have
- 12:24Speaker 1: the paper products of these. firsts to be able to collect,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you are only going to have the Chrome option when
- 12:30Speaker 1: you're talking about some of these Bowman firsts. And then
- 12:33Speaker 1: the other factor is that Bowman draft will end up
- 12:36Speaker 1: having everybody that was from the draft that recently happened
- 12:39Speaker 1: in all those collegiate ranks. So those names are also
- 12:42Speaker 1: more well known, I think, compared to what you're looking
- 12:45Speaker 1: at in terms of the prospect crew that is in
- 12:49Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome, because yeah, they're very young. They all just
- 12:53Speaker 1: got signed. They haven't had familiarity with the American audience
- 12:57Speaker 1: in terms of exposure of college baseball, which I think
- 12:59Speaker 1: has only grown more and more since especially the COVID days.
- 13:03Speaker 1: So you've got all those parameters. It all makes Bowman
- 13:07Speaker 1: Chrome much more high risk, but low floor product. I
- 13:14Speaker 1: think overall, when you're looking at stuff, you will obviously
- 13:17Speaker 1: get the introduction of rookie cards to in the Chrome formats,
- 13:20Speaker 1: a loaded rookie class, as we're going to talk about
- 13:22Speaker 1: here in this set. But I think because of all that,
- 13:26Speaker 1: you get people who love Bowman Chrome and people who
- 13:29Speaker 1: maybe shy away from Bowman Chrome because of some of
- 13:31Speaker 1: those factors. So, Brew, what's your stance on Bowman Chrome
- 13:34Speaker 1: and what kind of stands out to you for this
- 13:36Speaker 1: product release every year?
- 13:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is a very tricky product, I think,
- 13:41Speaker 2: is the way to look at it. Because of how
- 13:44Speaker 2: they handle a lot of the rookies from the season, it's...
- 13:49Speaker 2: you get a really loaded rookie class almost every moment Chrome,
- 13:53Speaker 2: just because all the big names from the season, they're
- 13:55Speaker 2: able to kind of get them into that, that product.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And so you'll see that, um, on the flip side,
- 14:01Speaker 2: you see this really interesting price inflation with the high
- 14:05Speaker 2: international signings where you just don't have enough information, but
- 14:08Speaker 2: because the price of the product is, is pretty significant.
- 14:12Speaker 2: You see this really heightened price, uh, out the gate
- 14:16Speaker 2: for the best of the best, um, from a, Bowman First,
- 14:20Speaker 2: Bowman First Auto perspective, those guys are going to be very,
- 14:23Speaker 2: very expensive. And so it is kind of a feast
- 14:25Speaker 2: or famine product. And so I like it from the
- 14:27Speaker 2: fact that you can get there. I love having all
- 14:30Speaker 2: the chrome. I love getting the chrome rookies. But to
- 14:33Speaker 2: your point, it is very much more like that lottery.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And you don't really know what you have. You could
- 14:41Speaker 2: have one of the worst autos today, and it could
- 14:43Speaker 2: be one of the best autos in a few years.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You just don't know. And so I think it's a
- 14:47Speaker 2: very difficult product. It's still fun to rip. It's still
- 14:50Speaker 2: a Bowman. But when I look at all of the
- 14:52Speaker 2: Bowman products out there, this is probably the least intriguing
- 14:56Speaker 2: one for me because you don't have the guys that
- 14:59Speaker 2: are close enough to the majors that you can invest
- 15:03Speaker 2: in them. You can see a path forward, especially those
- 15:06Speaker 2: college-ranked type of guys. You don't have that that you
- 15:08Speaker 2: can rely on. You're looking at 18- and 19-year-olds. at
- 15:12Speaker 2: best for a number of these, sometimes even younger, as
- 15:16Speaker 2: far as the biggest of the biggest chases. And because
- 15:19Speaker 2: of that, a lot of folks don't know who all
- 15:21Speaker 2: these players are. And that, again, will kind of compress
- 15:26Speaker 2: some of the prices because folks want to get their
- 15:28Speaker 2: return out of the product immediately. So it's an interesting
- 15:31Speaker 2: dynamic to play through. Again, I always love Bowman, so
- 15:34Speaker 2: it's hard to say that. But like I said, of
- 15:37Speaker 2: all the Bowman products, I kind of rank this one
- 15:39Speaker 2: last as far as the one that I really want
- 15:40Speaker 2: to rip Um, I do like this from a, a
- 15:44Speaker 2: like card show dollar box type search product because they
- 15:49Speaker 2: are going to be clean products. I still do like that.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I always loved Bowman designs. They always do a good job.
- 15:54Speaker 2: How tops can't figure out the difference between the two.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I don't know. Uh, bring it, bring some of that
- 15:59Speaker 2: flagship please. But that's a chance where you can go
- 16:06Speaker 2: in there because a lot of folks don't know these names.
- 16:08Speaker 2: So if you do know some of those best prospects,
- 16:10Speaker 2: you're going to find them. You're going to be able
- 16:11Speaker 2: to find them. You're gonna have guys that don't realize that,
- 16:14Speaker 2: you know, the prospect that's the 10th on the list
- 16:17Speaker 2: of the 15th on the list, that was the big
- 16:19Speaker 2: international signing for your team, that they're just going to
- 16:21Speaker 2: be kind of spread around because people don't know what
- 16:24Speaker 2: it is. So there's opportunity everywhere with the product, but I'm,
- 16:28Speaker 2: as you can tell, I'm a little less excited about
- 16:30Speaker 2: this one as I am what I would say draft.
- 16:32Speaker 2: And we talked about that here in a few months.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yeah. And I mean, the other factor too, is it's just,
- 16:37Speaker 1: it's pretty limited to get your hands on. You know,
- 16:40Speaker 1: regular Bowman that comes out in the spring is ubiquitous.
- 16:43Speaker 1: It's everywhere. It's in all retail environments. It's in all
- 16:46Speaker 1: hobby shots. Bowman Draft, also hard to get your hands
- 16:50Speaker 1: on because it's usually has traditionally been hobby only. Bowman
- 16:55Speaker 1: Crumb's kind of in between, but still pretty difficult to
- 16:57Speaker 1: get your hands on because one, there's only three formats
- 17:02Speaker 1: to get it in that at least has been published
- 17:05Speaker 1: out there. Sometimes there are like different types of fat
- 17:07Speaker 1: packs and stuff that appear, but I don't think you're
- 17:09Speaker 1: going to be seeing that with Bowman Chrome. Uh, you
- 17:11Speaker 1: only can get the breakers delight, which is only going
- 17:15Speaker 1: to breakers at this point, unless you really have a connection,
- 17:18Speaker 1: a hobby box, which was originally sold on pre-order at
- 17:23Speaker 1: 300 bucks on release date. It was like three 30,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I believe on tops.com. All of the secondary sites are
- 17:30Speaker 1: now you're, I don't think you can get one for
- 17:33Speaker 1: less than four 50 today. So, It'll probably come back
- 17:37Speaker 1: down around 400, but I think it's going to stay
- 17:40Speaker 1: relatively high, especially given the level of the rookie class
- 17:44Speaker 1: here in 2026 Bowman Chrome, as well as honestly, this
- 17:47Speaker 1: first list is pretty loaded compared to, I think what
- 17:51Speaker 1: we've seen over the past couple of years, that there's
- 17:54Speaker 1: a lot of really intriguing signings that I think that
- 17:57Speaker 1: happened in January, where maybe they're not quite as well
- 18:00Speaker 1: known as an Ethan Salas or Leo DeVries or some
- 18:02Speaker 1: others that have come across, but I like a lot
- 18:05Speaker 1: of the talent that has been coming through the DSL
- 18:08Speaker 1: this summer. So we'll highlight some of that. But you're
- 18:11Speaker 1: going to be looking at also mega boxes, too. That
- 18:15Speaker 1: was the third format. So that's going to be the
- 18:17Speaker 1: only one of retail environments. You're going to need to
- 18:21Speaker 1: work through some really big back channel to be able
- 18:23Speaker 1: to get one of those breakers to light boxes. Your
- 18:27Speaker 1: hobby shops will have those hobbies in place. in stock,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but I don't even think a hobby shop is going
- 18:33Speaker 1: to be selling one of those boxes for less than
- 18:35Speaker 1: probably 450 bucks right now because of the demand here.
- 18:39Speaker 1: So keep that in mind. If you are going out
- 18:41Speaker 1: there to rip, I think from a break perspective, it's
- 18:44Speaker 1: also a tough break product because of just like the
- 18:48Speaker 1: ups and downs and ebbs and flows, as well as
- 18:51Speaker 1: like for the most part on your Bowman first checklist,
- 18:56Speaker 1: you are only getting good, the January signing guys that
- 19:01Speaker 1: have been in the DSL. And so you'll see in
- 19:04Speaker 1: the prospect list of the checklist where, hey, there's some
- 19:09Speaker 1: big names in there, but they're not Bowman first. So
- 19:12Speaker 1: people are a lot less interested in them. And then
- 19:14Speaker 1: I think especially nowadays with people getting the RC stamp
- 19:18Speaker 1: on their rookie cards, there's no debate about some of
- 19:21Speaker 1: these like, oh, this unmarked bowman card is the true
- 19:25Speaker 1: rookie card or whatever that we used to have i
- 19:27Speaker 1: think more so in the 90s and early 2000s before
- 19:30Speaker 1: they start getting into those rc cards so i don't
- 19:33Speaker 1: think you can even like play that game for some
- 19:37Speaker 1: of these prospect cards so you do have 100 card
- 19:40Speaker 1: base set you have 100 card prospect uh set list
- 19:45Speaker 1: uh it will go from beyond it starts above 100
- 19:48Speaker 1: so if you're looking and you're like, wait a second,
- 19:51Speaker 1: he said there's only a hundred prospect cards, but I'm
- 19:53Speaker 1: ripping some of this Bowman Chrome. I'm looking at 180 something.
- 19:57Speaker 1: It's because it's a continuation from Bowman in the spring.
- 20:00Speaker 1: So they keep the prospect list running there. Let's focus
- 20:05Speaker 1: on the base set first. Because the rookie list, as
- 20:08Speaker 1: we've alluded to, it's loaded. You're crunching together all the
- 20:12Speaker 1: rookies that in flagship have been in Series 1, Series 2,
- 20:15Speaker 1: and will be in Series 1 and Update as well.
- 20:17Speaker 1: They're all here in Bowman Chrome. Honestly, some of them too,
- 20:21Speaker 1: like they're not even all in Topps Chrome. So some
- 20:23Speaker 1: of these guys are coming through in Topps Chrome Update.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And you're jamming them all into the 100-card list for
- 20:30Speaker 1: Bowman Chrome. You're looking at Connor Griffin, Kevin McGonigal, Trav Bazzana,
- 20:35Speaker 1: Chase DeLauder, Cam Schlittler, Sal Stewart, J.J. Weatherholt, Jacob Misierowski,
- 20:40Speaker 1: Munataka Murakami, Bryce Eldridge, Jack Caglione, Nolan McLean, Carson Benj,
- 20:47Speaker 1: Trey Savage. They're all in this product. So if you
- 20:50Speaker 1: had to really like hone in on any of those
- 20:53Speaker 1: to collect and maybe carve out as one that you
- 20:57Speaker 1: will pay the premium for in a break, Any of
- 20:59Speaker 1: those rookies stand out to you, or is there maybe
- 21:01Speaker 1: even another one I didn't list? Because it's a chock-full checklist.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I had to make some cuts somewhere.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the guys that I'm looking at are
- 21:08Speaker 2: the guys that didn't get rookie cards yet in flagship.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I think that's the kind of the target here. So
- 21:14Speaker 2: your Weatherholds, your McGonagalls. I'm trying to think there was
- 21:17Speaker 2: somebody else that didn't have one.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Is it Griffin?
- 21:19Speaker 2: Griffin didn't get one yet.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Brecht.
- 21:21Speaker 2: And so I think those are the guys that I
- 21:23Speaker 2: would be really interested in. Mizorowski is just hot as
- 21:27Speaker 2: can be right now. So I think that's just a gimme.
- 21:30Speaker 2: That makes sense to go after. And there's a few
- 21:32Speaker 2: of them like Caglio and McLean, guys like that. It
- 21:35Speaker 2: feels like they should have had a rookie card already
- 21:37Speaker 2: because they were just coming up right at the point
- 21:40Speaker 2: last year where they couldn't make this product. So it
- 21:42Speaker 2: feels like they're on the back of it. But for me,
- 21:45Speaker 2: I think the market's going to be really hot in Griffin, Weatherholt,
- 21:47Speaker 2: McGonigal because they didn't get that flagship rookie yet. And
- 21:50Speaker 2: this is going to be kind of their first rookie
- 21:52Speaker 2: that's actually available at multiple parallels and accessible to the
- 21:56Speaker 2: broad market versus what they're actually going to get an update.
- 22:00Speaker 2: So that's probably where I'm going to focus. But at
- 22:02Speaker 2: the end of the day, like that's a loaded checklist.
- 22:04Speaker 2: And I think that's, what's interesting about this one is
- 22:06Speaker 2: I think it's usually not the rookie checklist that carries
- 22:09Speaker 2: the product. for Bowman Chrome. It's usually the first, um,
- 22:13Speaker 2: and to your point, like, I think we have some
- 22:14Speaker 2: pretty good firsts this year. It's maybe not as high
- 22:17Speaker 2: top of the high end, but there's a, uh, like
- 22:18Speaker 2: that next year is pretty, pretty broad, but I think
- 22:21Speaker 2: it gets carried actually by the rookie class this year,
- 22:23Speaker 2: which is different from this product in the past. So, um, I,
- 22:27Speaker 2: I did look further in the checklist, but I'm sure
- 22:29Speaker 2: you missed like 10 names that were also there, there,
- 22:33Speaker 2: there as well. And that's just knowing that there's really, um,
- 22:37Speaker 2: only the a hundred card base set, like, almost every
- 22:40Speaker 2: name in this checklist is exciting. Worth it. You get
- 22:42Speaker 2: a pair of them. You're not getting like your middle
- 22:45Speaker 2: reliever parallels, things like that. It's, it's going to be
- 22:49Speaker 2: a strong checklist. No, almost no matter what you, you
- 22:52Speaker 2: pull within this.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, the other factor too, is that like,
- 22:57Speaker 1: so Connor Griffin and McGonigal and Weatherholt were in tops
- 23:02Speaker 1: Chrome this summer, but the factor that might, layer in
- 23:08Speaker 1: and make these bowman chrome rookies even more desirable is
- 23:12Speaker 1: well i mean i'm sure i'm not the only one
- 23:15Speaker 1: that thinks that the 2026 tops flagship design kind of
- 23:18Speaker 1: blows so like yeah there's that as well as like
- 23:21Speaker 1: the connor griffin card is kind of boring and photoshoppy
- 23:25Speaker 1: and like i'm much more intrigued by the design of
- 23:28Speaker 1: the bowman chrome card here which i guess we should
- 23:31Speaker 1: also state it's in the classic motif of bowman i
- 23:34Speaker 1: don't it's if you're into cards like it is Bowman.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Like there's nothing kind of, I think there's no bells
- 23:41Speaker 1: and whistles, which is almost kind of good. You want
- 23:42Speaker 1: something that's pretty classic and framed up with like a
- 23:46Speaker 1: modern sci-fi ish feel around it, where they didn't go
- 23:50Speaker 1: crazy trying to redesign it or reconfigure it. But that
- 23:54Speaker 1: has been what they used obviously in the spring too.
- 23:58Speaker 1: But yeah, I much prefer the Connor Griffin Bowman Chrome
- 24:02Speaker 1: rookie card to the tops current right now. So like,
- 24:05Speaker 1: that's going to be a factor and it might kind
- 24:08Speaker 1: of happen with some of these other guys as well,
- 24:10Speaker 1: just because like I said, 2026 tops design is a
- 24:15Speaker 1: little bit lacking as well as like the quality on tops.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Chrome that came out over the summer was also a
- 24:22Speaker 1: little bit, you know, like I, they really focused on
- 24:26Speaker 1: getting the parallels out and stuff where with Bowman, I
- 24:29Speaker 1: feel like they do a better job of making sure
- 24:32Speaker 1: that the quality is there when printing the One, it's
- 24:35Speaker 1: a lower print run than Topps Chrome, obviously, but two,
- 24:39Speaker 1: this is an expensive product, and you've got to make
- 24:41Speaker 1: people feel that they're getting some value out of it
- 24:45Speaker 1: for what they're spending when the floor can be so
- 24:48Speaker 1: low on some of these guys that you're taking gambles
- 24:51Speaker 1: on for the Bowman first.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Yeah, the other thing I'll call out as well on
- 24:55Speaker 2: those rookies, just be careful because Bowman that had Chrome
- 25:00Speaker 2: and Bowman Chrome are going to be very hard to...
- 25:04Speaker 2: differentiated times because i'm just looking at the connor griffin
- 25:07Speaker 2: cards um his pose in the two of those products
- 25:11Speaker 2: is almost identical um and the outline is pretty gosh
- 25:15Speaker 2: darn similar uh between the the the products and so
- 25:18Speaker 2: one he's in the the bowman earlier release with uh
- 25:23Speaker 2: that had chrome cards he's got kind of a leg
- 25:25Speaker 2: kick and he's he's swinging um and he's got a
- 25:28Speaker 2: looks like a little shin guard going on here and
- 25:31Speaker 2: the one that just came out with bowman chrome is
- 25:33Speaker 2: almost the exact same batting stance, but he doesn't have
- 25:36Speaker 2: the shin guard. But it's almost indistinguishable between the two,
- 25:39Speaker 2: except for the rookie card stamps on one. So it's
- 25:41Speaker 2: actually kind of this really confusing, whereas rookie card from
- 25:44Speaker 2: Bowman Chrome came out after he had a Bowman Chrome
- 25:49Speaker 2: card with him on it. So just be careful as
- 25:52Speaker 2: you're looking at some of these because it will get confusing.
- 25:55Speaker 2: And there's not a way to differentiate it as far
- 25:58Speaker 2: as what you call these things because Bowman Chrome is
- 26:01Speaker 2: correct in both terms. So just be just be careful
- 26:04Speaker 2: with that.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. So let's get into some of those first.
- 26:08Speaker 1: So from the Bowman first, these are obviously going to
- 26:11Speaker 1: be super desirable, especially there are there's a certain layer
- 26:16Speaker 1: of collectors out there that honestly probably prefer Bowman first
- 26:19Speaker 1: to rookie cards overall, because it's like the first time
- 26:22Speaker 1: that you're getting these guys on cards with their logos
- 26:28Speaker 1: and a licensed product and everything like that. So I've
- 26:31Speaker 1: kind of tiered these out based on like the way
- 26:33Speaker 1: I view these, especially from like a fantasy perspective. So
- 26:37Speaker 1: in the first tier, I would say and I will
- 26:40Speaker 1: leave these in the show notes, too, just because like
- 26:43Speaker 1: I think some of these will be butchered, as I say,
- 26:46Speaker 1: because I'm about to really disappoint my my Spanish teachers
- 26:50Speaker 1: from junior high that taught me how to pronounce correctly
- 26:54Speaker 1: because it didn't all stick. We've got in the first tier,
- 26:59Speaker 1: Luis Hernandez from the San Francisco Giants, Anje Bel Gomez
- 27:03Speaker 1: from the Kansas City Royals, Francisco Renteria from the Philadelphia Phillies,
- 27:09Speaker 1: Wandi Asahen from the New York Mets, and Yonasee Colomay
- 27:15Speaker 1: from the Athletics. In the next tier down are the
- 27:20Speaker 1: guys that I would consider like some of these are
- 27:22Speaker 1: bigger signings. They sign for multimillion dollars. but maybe haven't
- 27:26Speaker 1: quite had the prospect shine where those guys, I just
- 27:29Speaker 1: rattled off there. Like those dudes are, I think all
- 27:32Speaker 1: future studs based on what's been coming across. And we've
- 27:35Speaker 1: talked about on Hebel Gomez and Luis Hernandez over, over
- 27:39Speaker 1: the summer too, that like, I think those dudes look
- 27:42Speaker 1: like superstars tier two, you got some bigger signings, some
- 27:46Speaker 1: bigger names from when they actually put ink to paper,
- 27:51Speaker 1: but also like, I would say the next kind of
- 27:53Speaker 1: tier down and some prospects too. So you've got on
- 27:56Speaker 1: hell Nunez from the Cincinnati Reds on hell de los
- 27:59Speaker 1: Santos from the tigers, Sebastian dos Santos from the Cardinals,
- 28:04Speaker 1: Samuel Serrano from the nationals, Yoni, Yoni L Hernandez, which
- 28:10Speaker 1: his cards are on the Padres, but he was traded
- 28:14Speaker 1: in the Robbie Ray deal. So he's on the giants now,
- 28:17Speaker 1: and it's coming up with Lisa Hernandez and, um, Joshua Gonzalez, who,
- 28:22Speaker 1: Gonzalez was in last year's product, so he's not in
- 28:25Speaker 1: this one. Then we also have, this is what we
- 28:28Speaker 1: were talking about a little bit. Bowman Chrome was also
- 28:31Speaker 1: a cleanup time for when the guys that came through
- 28:35Speaker 1: in previous drafts, they didn't get into a draft product.
- 28:38Speaker 1: They didn't get to a Bowman product. Maybe they didn't
- 28:41Speaker 1: sign a deal with Tops and Fanatics for being licensed
- 28:45Speaker 1: to being in the product. Because I think that's the
- 28:48Speaker 1: case for the first one. This is actually the first
- 28:50Speaker 1: time we're getting Durangelo Cintia Bowman first cards. And they're
- 28:55Speaker 1: actually only autos. There's no base cards of Gerangelo going forward.
- 29:00Speaker 1: So this is, we talked about this a little bit
- 29:03Speaker 1: when we were going through guys to stash for the
- 29:06Speaker 1: playoffs a couple of weeks ago, you get variation sometimes,
- 29:08Speaker 1: or sometimes they only have a base card with no auto.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Sometimes they have an auto with no base card. Gerangelo
- 29:14Speaker 1: going forward, we'll have an auto, but no Bowman first
- 29:16Speaker 1: base card. You've also got Christian Zazueta from the Dodgers
- 29:21Speaker 1: is got a Bowman first in here. Owen Ayers from
- 29:24Speaker 1: the Cubs is his Bowman first. Avery Owusu-Acedu, I think
- 29:29Speaker 1: is how you say it. He's in the Diamondbacks system.
- 29:33Speaker 1: You should go check out Statline. He's been just rocking
- 29:38Speaker 1: double a all season um i'm just gonna call him
- 29:42Speaker 1: avery so i don't have to go through that mouthful
- 29:44Speaker 1: again for right now and i don't want to keep
- 29:47Speaker 1: mispronouncing it but he's been shooting through that d-back system
- 29:50Speaker 1: uh also went to siue which is kind of random
- 29:53Speaker 1: but huge six foot four frame It's been a big
- 29:56Speaker 1: breakout there. Brendan Clark is also in this product who
- 29:59Speaker 1: has traded in the offseason to the Cardinals. So I
- 30:03Speaker 1: just rattled off a ton of names. I threw a
- 30:05Speaker 1: lot of information at you there. How are you feeling
- 30:07Speaker 1: about my tiering system? Anybody you might want to shuffle
- 30:10Speaker 1: around between the first and second tiers or any other
- 30:13Speaker 1: prospects from the checklist that you want to call out
- 30:16Speaker 1: and highlight that maybe I didn't give enough shine to?
- 30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think you did a good job
- 30:22Speaker 2: of getting the right guys out there. I think that there's...
- 30:26Speaker 2: You have the Tier 1, Tier 2, which I'm generally
- 30:28Speaker 2: going to agree with. And I was... As we were
- 30:30Speaker 2: rattling them off, I was actually... doing a quick look
- 30:33Speaker 2: on eBay just now to see the card prices, like
- 30:35Speaker 2: where are these landing? And it was pretty clear, but
- 30:38Speaker 2: tier one, the base Chrome autos is about two 50
- 30:42Speaker 2: for that tier tier two. It's on the one 25
- 30:45Speaker 2: to one 50 range for almost all of those guys.
- 30:48Speaker 2: There's a few outliers, but where it gets really interesting
- 30:51Speaker 2: is the, the forgottens. I think you call it in
- 30:54Speaker 2: our show notes, finally getting their card. And that group
- 30:58Speaker 2: is all over the place. So Durant, Tarangelo, I didn't
- 31:03Speaker 2: even take Spanish, so I have no chance here. But
- 31:07Speaker 2: he only has, looks like right now, high-end buybacks. There's
- 31:13Speaker 2: not any bases out there, so that's hard to do.
- 31:15Speaker 2: A number of the tier... So his prices are up
- 31:18Speaker 2: like $ 500, $ 600. Like Avery, I'm not going to try it.
- 31:24Speaker 2: His cars are selling for $ 30. It's a little bit
- 31:26Speaker 2: all over the place there. And again, first auto prices...
- 31:30Speaker 2: But what's really interesting, if you look at the first
- 31:32Speaker 2: tier there, your Luis Hernandez's, Angel Belt Gomez, Renteria, those guys,
- 31:38Speaker 2: a number of them have redemptions and cards that were signed.
- 31:44Speaker 2: And so it's really interesting. It's almost like they only
- 31:46Speaker 2: got like half the product out to them. So there's
- 31:48Speaker 2: some of the parallels, but not all of the parallels
- 31:51Speaker 2: out there. So you're seeing both of those pop up
- 31:53Speaker 2: on eBay, which is really interesting to see. And I
- 31:55Speaker 2: don't know what to... equate that to. It's almost like
- 31:58Speaker 2: they got sent two boxes and only sent one back
- 32:00Speaker 2: type of thing. But there's multiple of them from that.
- 32:03Speaker 2: So keep an eye out for that. I think that
- 32:05Speaker 2: will actually drive their prices up a little bit because
- 32:08Speaker 2: if you can get a certain set of those cards
- 32:12Speaker 2: like sent, bought, and in your hands versus you have
- 32:15Speaker 2: redemptions that you have to go chase, I think that's
- 32:18Speaker 2: a little bit not what people want of this product
- 32:21Speaker 2: right out the gate because you could be sitting on
- 32:23Speaker 2: that thing for months. And I'd be a little more
- 32:25Speaker 2: concerned with it knowing something clearly went awry for those
- 32:29Speaker 2: redemptions to be put in there. So I like your tiers.
- 32:33Speaker 2: I think you got it pretty well aligned there. Just
- 32:37Speaker 2: be aware that the prices are going to vary significantly
- 32:40Speaker 2: on these guys out the gate. And that first tier
- 32:43Speaker 2: is probably where I'd steer away from. I think that
- 32:45Speaker 2: second tier, if you're really looking to play the long game,
- 32:47Speaker 2: I think is where you have to play because the
- 32:50Speaker 2: values already baked into that tier one. People think they're
- 32:53Speaker 2: the best guys in the product. those prices are going
- 32:57Speaker 2: to have a hard time going up from here unless
- 33:02Speaker 2: they just continue to blow away the league like a
- 33:04Speaker 2: Leo DeVries or somebody like that. And I don't know
- 33:06Speaker 2: that any of these guys are at that level. I
- 33:09Speaker 2: think the number of the guys are like future major
- 33:11Speaker 2: league solid performers, if not all-stars. But they're a long
- 33:16Speaker 2: ways away, and there's a lot of variation here. I
- 33:18Speaker 2: don't think putting $ 250, $ 300 down on that kind of
- 33:21Speaker 2: auto is probably the right call at this time.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if they're Gomez is maybe the one
- 33:27Speaker 1: that I would push back there, just because I do
- 33:29Speaker 1: think on about Gomez when we're talking this time next
- 33:33Speaker 1: year is probably like a global top 15 prospect. Like,
- 33:38Speaker 1: I think the dude's pretty special. I think he's really something.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Hernandez is certainly up there for me, too. And Renteria
- 33:44Speaker 1: has also been up there. But you also are dealing
- 33:47Speaker 1: with on Hernandez and Renteria Giants and Phillies. markets for
- 33:53Speaker 1: collecting are pretty strong. So those team collectors would be
- 33:59Speaker 1: chasing them. Anabel Gomez has the Royals behind him, but, um,
- 34:03Speaker 1: everybody's all over Anabel Gomez, but the numbers have popped
- 34:07Speaker 1: while he's been playing all summer. And I'm not the
- 34:09Speaker 1: only one that's throwing around really intense valuations on him
- 34:14Speaker 1: going into 2027 in terms of like I said, laying
- 34:17Speaker 1: out there that I think he's a top 15 guy,
- 34:19Speaker 1: probably mid mid season update list, especially when he starts
- 34:23Speaker 1: getting more at bat stateside. So yeah, it's certainly, it's
- 34:28Speaker 1: not an easy market to play in, but certainly like
- 34:32Speaker 1: the thing you have to weigh is if you're trying
- 34:34Speaker 1: to collect a player like Hernandez Gomez or Renteria, and
- 34:37Speaker 1: this is the, your guy is, do you pull the
- 34:41Speaker 1: trigger now while things are available and you can actually
- 34:44Speaker 1: get it into your PC or, knowing that the actual
- 34:48Speaker 1: kind of gain might not be there long term? Or
- 34:51Speaker 1: do you wait a little bit, but then things might
- 34:54Speaker 1: get hoovered up and the supply might not be there?
- 34:57Speaker 1: So I don't think I'm buying within the first two
- 34:59Speaker 1: weeks of the product. But like after two weeks, you
- 35:01Speaker 1: got to kind of sit there and make that decision
- 35:05Speaker 1: pretty quickly, because otherwise these things can get hoovered up
- 35:08Speaker 1: pretty quickly. And we were just chatting before we got
- 35:12Speaker 1: on our recording that like the The machinations at PSA
- 35:18Speaker 1: are bogged down right now with the volume of cards
- 35:20Speaker 1: that what's going to happen here is what happens in
- 35:23Speaker 1: the supply and demand, I think, is that, you know,
- 35:25Speaker 1: in the first couple of weeks, people are ripping, they're
- 35:28Speaker 1: buying the new stuff. And then the folks that are
- 35:31Speaker 1: sending stuff to PSA, it starts going out and the
- 35:33Speaker 1: supply shrinks really fast and then expands again when people
- 35:38Speaker 1: start getting stuff back from PSA. So before you hit
- 35:42Speaker 1: that shrinkage window, you've got to think about what you're
- 35:44Speaker 1: going to do for your PC.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Bowman Chrome is, I think we all
- 35:49Speaker 2: know that the sweet spot for buying baseball cards is
- 35:52Speaker 2: like November, December, January. And this product, because of the
- 35:56Speaker 2: arc of time, works really well for that. Because I
- 36:01Speaker 2: was looking at what sold for Annabelle Gomez here. His
- 36:06Speaker 2: out of $ 499 refractor auto sold for $ 450 this afternoon.
- 36:12Speaker 2: It's going to be pricey, but I expect that's going
- 36:15Speaker 2: to come down it's going to be off season. We're
- 36:17Speaker 2: not going to be hearing about a DSL guy, things
- 36:19Speaker 2: like that. But then if he goes on that trajectory
- 36:22Speaker 2: that we think he, he could, I mean, you were
- 36:24Speaker 2: talking about it. I own him in multiple leagues. Like,
- 36:27Speaker 2: I think that it could happen that it may never
- 36:29Speaker 2: be cheaper. So it's a, yeah, it's one of those,
- 36:32Speaker 2: like I don't, from an investment perspective, a flipping perspective,
- 36:35Speaker 2: probably not what you want to do. If it's your guy,
- 36:37Speaker 2: that's probably when you're going to want to make the play. Yeah.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Yep. I think that's all very fair. So let's talk
- 36:43Speaker 1: about the checklist itself. So, We've got a ton of parallels,
- 36:48Speaker 1: as you could expect. So not only do we have...
- 36:51Speaker 1: I counted it, and I think I counted it correctly,
- 36:54Speaker 1: but somebody out there could check my work if you
- 36:57Speaker 1: really want to. I think it's 51 prospect parallels, and
- 37:01Speaker 1: that is not counting the plates. And so for the...
- 37:07Speaker 1: Bowman first, you're going to be looking at 51 parallels
- 37:10Speaker 1: if you want to put together a rainbow. That 51
- 37:14Speaker 1: does not include some of the other variations that are
- 37:16Speaker 1: in this product, which include the WBC flag, which is
- 37:20Speaker 1: the background of the player's home country in line with
- 37:25Speaker 1: the WBC. That is a throwback to early 2000 Bowman
- 37:30Speaker 1: started that and actually maybe even late 90s Bowman started that,
- 37:34Speaker 1: where they would do that as a parallel. So it's
- 37:37Speaker 1: cool to see, especially with the WBC application. You've also
- 37:40Speaker 1: got the rookie image variations, which I should say in
- 37:45Speaker 1: terms of the base parallels, you're looking at much fewer,
- 37:47Speaker 1: only 25. So that's not including the plates, but 25
- 37:51Speaker 1: base parallels as well. But you also have rookie image variations.
- 37:55Speaker 1: You'll have retrofractors, which they're back. They were not in
- 37:59Speaker 1: Bowman in the spring, if you recall, at least that
- 38:01Speaker 1: we couldn't find but you've got Rogers Hornsby and Jim Palmer,
- 38:05Speaker 1: which I'm feeling better about these retro fractures that like,
- 38:08Speaker 1: I'm surprised that they had skipped Rogers Hornsby for so long.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And same thing with Jim Palmer, like Jim Palmer is
- 38:15Speaker 1: a huge name, especially it feels like in the hobby,
- 38:18Speaker 1: just given the age range of a lot of collectors
- 38:22Speaker 1: out there think that, you know, Jim Palmer really was
- 38:26Speaker 1: better than he was because of like his height notoriety
- 38:29Speaker 1: during the seventies. But what do you think about those
- 38:30Speaker 1: retro fractures for Hornsby and Palmer?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they're good. I've always, I mean, I'm
- 38:35Speaker 2: a Cardinals fan at heart. So the Hornsby is an
- 38:38Speaker 2: easy one for me. But Palmer has always been a
- 38:40Speaker 2: great hobby guy as well. Always was a fun pitcher.
- 38:42Speaker 2: You know, had a fantastic career. So I like them.
- 38:47Speaker 2: You're never going to be able to get back to
- 38:49Speaker 2: the point of like the best of the best because
- 38:51Speaker 2: there's only so many guys that can be there. But
- 38:53Speaker 2: I think these two do kind of span different types
- 38:57Speaker 2: of collectors, different types of eras that I think they
- 39:00Speaker 2: will play very, very well. Because of that, again, it's
- 39:03Speaker 2: not the Babe Ruths. It's not the Ty Cobbs. It's
- 39:06Speaker 2: not those kind of guys, which is fine. There's nothing
- 39:08Speaker 2: wrong with a guy that can hit 400. So we'll
- 39:11Speaker 2: take Hornsby and be very, very happy about it. Those
- 39:14Speaker 2: are going to be big, big targets for folks in
- 39:17Speaker 2: this product.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it also makes the Cardinals, even though they don't
- 39:21Speaker 1: have a standout name in the first checklist, one of
- 39:26Speaker 1: the low-key kind of maybe values of the Cardinals breaks
- 39:30Speaker 1: out there because you get shots at Hornsby and then
- 39:33Speaker 1: I really like Sebastian Dos Santos, but you also get
- 39:36Speaker 1: Gerangelo and Brandon Clark shots. So nice little shot out
- 39:41Speaker 1: there for the Cardinals breakers. And you've also got for variations,
- 39:45Speaker 1: you've got the international variations, which is going to be
- 39:49Speaker 1: on the prospect checklist. What this is, is the background
- 39:53Speaker 1: instead of like the flag motif that we're talking about
- 39:55Speaker 1: for the WBC, it's actually a background of like their
- 39:58Speaker 1: hometown or home country. So that's built into those cards.
- 40:02Speaker 1: I think those would be very popular. The pack factors,
- 40:05Speaker 1: which we had in Bowman in the spring, which we
- 40:08Speaker 1: really liked the design and these look sharp as well.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I think they were very popular. They're numbered to 89
- 40:14Speaker 1: a piece, but that's also going to be a separate
- 40:16Speaker 1: variation as well. So, Those variations are not included in
- 40:20Speaker 1: this giant checklist of colors that you're going to run through.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I'm giving you the prospects. I'm taking the base parallels
- 40:26Speaker 1: for myself so that I can continue hosting the pod,
- 40:29Speaker 1: hit the people with what they want, give them all
- 40:32Speaker 1: 51 of those variations, Brew.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Well, we're going to do it. Unfortunately, Beckett has decided
- 40:36Speaker 2: to crash on me. So we're not going to be
- 40:38Speaker 2: able to do it as well as I'd like to,
- 40:40Speaker 2: which is going by every single number, but we're going
- 40:42Speaker 2: to do it by your, I'll call it your box,
- 40:46Speaker 2: your different kinds here. So you, We'll break up the
- 40:50Speaker 2: Breaker Delights and the Hobby Exclusives separately. So we'll just
- 40:53Speaker 2: go through kind of your base parallels that we'll do
- 40:55Speaker 2: by the products there. So for your Bowman Chrome Prospects
- 41:00Speaker 2: parallel list, you have available in all products, your refractors
- 41:04Speaker 2: out of $ 499, your speckle refractors. I can't even say it.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Two in and we're done. Speckle Refractors out of $ 2. 99,
- 41:11Speaker 2: Purple Refractors out of $ 2. 50, Blue Refractors out of $ 1. 50,
- 41:14Speaker 2: you got your Reptilian Blue Refractors out of $ 1. 50, Aqua
- 41:18Speaker 2: Refractors out of $ 1. 25, we have three greens, Refractor, Reptilian,
- 41:22Speaker 2: and Wave out of $ 99. You have Yellow Refractors, Yellow
- 41:25Speaker 2: Wave Refractors out of $ 75, you got three golds as
- 41:28Speaker 2: far as your Refractor, Reptilian, and Gold Wave all out
- 41:31Speaker 2: of $ 50. Got your Bowman Logofractor out of 35. Got
- 41:34Speaker 2: your Orange Refractor, Orange Wave, and Reptilian out of 25.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Got your Black Wave Refractor and Reptilian out of 10.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Got your Reds, Red Refractor, Red Reptilian, and Wave out
- 41:47Speaker 2: of 5. And then your Superfractor, all available across the products.
- 41:51Speaker 2: It's kind of funny to say that with a Superfractor
- 41:53Speaker 2: and say it's available in both products, but they just
- 41:55Speaker 2: don't tell you where you're going to get it. From
- 41:57Speaker 2: a hobby... box exclusive perspective uh we have the league
- 42:01Speaker 2: logo fracture the shimmer refractor and x-factor those are not
- 42:04Speaker 2: numbered cards uh but you have them there you have
- 42:06Speaker 2: your pulsar refractor out of 399 your purple pulsar out
- 42:10Speaker 2: of 250 purple wave out of 250 purple shimmer out
- 42:14Speaker 2: of 250 which gives us a good grand total of
- 42:17Speaker 2: four out of 250 so far we'll have another when
- 42:20Speaker 2: we get to the breakers delight Um, fuchsia out of
- 42:23Speaker 2: shimmer out refractors out of one to nine and blue
- 42:26Speaker 2: wave out of one 50 aqua pulsar out of one
- 42:29Speaker 2: 25 wave refractor out of 100. Uh, your green shimmer, uh,
- 42:34Speaker 2: out of 99, your gold shimmer out of 50, your
- 42:36Speaker 2: orange shimmer out of 25 and your red shimmer out
- 42:38Speaker 2: of five in the breakers delight. That's where you get
- 42:42Speaker 2: all of your geometric refractors. So by color, you're just
- 42:46Speaker 2: base geometrics out of $ 4. 99. But then you have your
- 42:49Speaker 2: fuchsia out of $ 2. 99, purple out of $ 2. 50, blue out
- 42:53Speaker 2: of $ 1. 50, aqua out of $ 1. 25, green out of $ 1. 99,
- 42:56Speaker 2: your yellow out of $ 1. 75, gold $ 1. 50, orange $ 1. 25, black $ 1. 10,
- 43:00Speaker 2: red $ 1. 05. Just like you would have expected with everything else.
- 43:02Speaker 2: But those are all geometric in the Breaker's Delights. Just
- 43:07Speaker 2: for fun, don't worry. There's also the fun little silly
- 43:10Speaker 2: snack packs. that you can have. So you do get
- 43:12Speaker 2: gumball refractors, sunflower seed refractors, penis refractors, and popcorn refractors
- 43:18Speaker 2: in there as well. I'm not going to call out
- 43:20Speaker 2: all the international WBC impact factor variations because they kind
- 43:24Speaker 2: of intermingle there, but those are available there as well.
- 43:28Speaker 2: So I'm sure I missed something because it was not
- 43:30Speaker 2: my normal checklist here, but I think that was all
- 43:34Speaker 2: 51 of them.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Yes, that was impressive. I'm surprised you made it through alive.
- 43:40Speaker 1: How do your vocal cords feel?
- 43:41Speaker 2: I think I'm going to need a week off to
- 43:43Speaker 2: come back next week. Maybe put me on the 10
- 43:46Speaker 2: day and we'll see you on the next time around.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Okay. Well, I can at least cover the bass checklist
- 43:52Speaker 1: parallels for you. So like I said, you've got 25
- 43:55Speaker 1: of these and you are looking at refractors out of 499.
- 43:59Speaker 1: You've got geometric refractors out of 499. And these will
- 44:03Speaker 1: follow the same suit that you went through where Most
- 44:06Speaker 1: of these are split up. Your geometrics are only in
- 44:10Speaker 1: Breakers Delights. Your regular refractors there are in Hobbies and Delights.
- 44:14Speaker 1: You've got Pulsar refractors of $ 399 only in Hobbies. Fuchsia
- 44:19Speaker 1: refractors of $ 299 in Hobbies and Delights. Fuchsia wave refractors
- 44:24Speaker 1: of $ 299 in Hobbies. Purple geometrics in $ 250s, $ 250 of those.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Aqua Ray Wave Refractor 199. Those are in Hobbies and Delights.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Blue Refractors out of 150. Blue Wave Refractors out of 150.
- 44:40Speaker 1: And Geometric Refractors out of 150. Regulars in both Hobby
- 44:45Speaker 1: and Delight. The Wave is in Hobby and the Geometric
- 44:48Speaker 1: is in Delight. Aqua Geometric 125. Only in Delights. That's
- 44:55Speaker 1: also throwing off my cadence that the Aqua wave refractors
- 44:58Speaker 1: of 199, and the geometrics are 125. That's a little
- 45:02Speaker 1: goopy there, but interesting little twist. Wave refractors of 100
- 45:07Speaker 1: in hobby boxes. Green refractors of 99 in hobbies and delights.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Green wave refractors of 99 also in hobbies and delights,
- 45:17Speaker 1: which is... I don't know if this information is all...
- 45:21Speaker 1: Accurate from Beckett because it's like mix matching, but maybe
- 45:24Speaker 1: it is. That would be really funny if they just
- 45:26Speaker 1: kind of were like, yeah, we're just going to mix
- 45:28Speaker 1: it up, whatever. And Green Geometric out of 99, Delights Only.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Yellow Refractors out of 75, Hobbies and Delights. Gold Refractors
- 45:38Speaker 1: out of 50, Hobbies and Delights. Gold Geometric out of 50,
- 45:41Speaker 1: Delights Only. The Orange Refractors out of 25, Hobbies and Delights.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Orange Geometric, Delight Only out of 25. Black Refractor, 10
- 45:52Speaker 1: of those. Hobbies and Delights, Black Geometric of 10, only
- 45:57Speaker 1: in Delights. Red Refractors out of five, Hobbies and Delights there.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Red Geometric of five, Delights only. Super Refractors, one of
- 46:07Speaker 1: ones in Hobbies and Delights. And I will say that
- 46:09Speaker 1: this is the chance to also see how they stack
- 46:14Speaker 1: these products differently. The Super Refractors is one in every... 15,632
- 46:21Speaker 1: delight box packs, uh, which are like, I said boxes
- 46:27Speaker 1: at first, cause the boxes are the packs for the,
- 46:30Speaker 1: the breakers delights typically while they're only one out of 900, 600, 9,641
- 46:39Speaker 1: for hobbies. So there's a little bit of variation there,
- 46:41Speaker 1: but you can especially see like how few delight boxes
- 46:44Speaker 1: are out there because when you're looking at like the
- 46:48Speaker 1: black geometrics you're looking at one in every 178 delights
- 46:53Speaker 1: as opposed to one in every 960 of those for
- 46:57Speaker 1: hobby packs so something to like as we were talking
- 47:01Speaker 1: about when we were talking about those breakers delight boxes
- 47:04Speaker 1: giving your hands on them is impossible because they're all
- 47:06Speaker 1: going to breakers that's part of the reason why that
- 47:08Speaker 1: like there's only a limited set of them available so
- 47:13Speaker 1: that makes them even harder to get and honestly the
- 47:16Speaker 1: Most of those you would hope do get broken because
- 47:19Speaker 1: they've got some good stuff in there and are being
- 47:22Speaker 1: used for breaks anyway. So we did it. We both survived.
- 47:26Speaker 1: We got through all the parallels. I will say, actually,
- 47:29Speaker 1: there's one parallel we didn't talk about when I was
- 47:31Speaker 1: running through the others that were out there. And one
- 47:34Speaker 1: of them is the Red Rookie parallels. They're still doing
- 47:37Speaker 1: this buyback program. You probably assumed it if you were
- 47:42Speaker 1: listening to this Bowman Chrome podcast and listened to Bowman
- 47:44Speaker 1: podcast before because I think the red rookie Chrome redemption
- 47:50Speaker 1: program is kind of here to stay forever, especially given
- 47:54Speaker 1: that they've got to run this thing for 50 plus
- 47:56Speaker 1: years or whatever in our indefinitely till the end of
- 48:00Speaker 1: time that like they might as well keep it rolling.
- 48:02Speaker 1: So you've got red rookie card re parallels for each
- 48:09Speaker 1: of the rookies, which the logo, the RC logo on
- 48:12Speaker 1: the card will be red instead of it's noble red, white,
- 48:14Speaker 1: and blue. And, they will be inserts and limited from
- 48:20Speaker 1: that perspective. But what's going to make this easy is
- 48:23Speaker 1: that when you're looking at the redemption, I've got the
- 48:26Speaker 1: redemption details down in the show notes, so we don't
- 48:28Speaker 1: have to rehash that, but you're only to focus on three.
- 48:32Speaker 1: It's McGonigal, Sal Stewart. And honestly, that might be the
- 48:36Speaker 1: only two, but for some reason, Nolan McLean's not getting
- 48:39Speaker 1: any discussion or love for the rookie of the year,
- 48:41Speaker 1: even though he's been pitching really well. I think there
- 48:45Speaker 1: might be more of a discussion when we get towards
- 48:46Speaker 1: the end of the season and people start stacking up
- 48:49Speaker 1: the decks of McLean versus Stewart, but Stewart is probably
- 48:53Speaker 1: the runaway NL rookie of the year favorite. Nobody's even
- 48:56Speaker 1: close to McGonigal. I think at this point that it
- 48:59Speaker 1: would take a pretty crazy Murakami stretch of home runs
- 49:03Speaker 1: to be able to push him back into the rookie
- 49:05Speaker 1: of the year lead. So that makes it easy. If
- 49:07Speaker 1: you've got a red rookie parallel, I think of McGonigal
- 49:10Speaker 1: or Stewart, you've already made yourself a hundred bucks to Unless, Brew,
- 49:13Speaker 1: you're advocating people to hold on to your Sal Stewart's
- 49:16Speaker 1: and McGonagall's out there?
- 49:18Speaker 2: No, I'm strongly advising against it. Just brushing up on
- 49:22Speaker 2: the rules again, just as a reminder. If you get
- 49:29Speaker 2: the red rookie redemption of the guy that wins the
- 49:32Speaker 2: rookie of the year, and remember, half the guys that
- 49:35Speaker 2: have the red rookie logo aren't eligible for rookie of
- 49:37Speaker 2: the year, so a whole other discussion on that one. Um,
- 49:40Speaker 2: but if they, if, if they win it, the redemption
- 49:43Speaker 2: window opens, you have until March of next year to
- 49:46Speaker 2: redeem your a hundred dollars. If that closes and you
- 49:49Speaker 2: did not redeem, you are out of luck. You cannot
- 49:51Speaker 2: get that a hundred dollars anymore. You can only get
- 49:53Speaker 2: something if they win the next, if they won another award, uh,
- 49:57Speaker 2: the MVP or, or, or Cy Young, I guess in
- 49:59Speaker 2: this situation is going to be MVP. We're talking about,
- 50:02Speaker 2: and then it opens back up for that year after
- 50:04Speaker 2: that season. So like, if you don't redeem in this
- 50:07Speaker 2: first go around, You are just playing fire, and you
- 50:12Speaker 2: know that you just burnt $ 100 going forward. So maybe
- 50:16Speaker 2: you believe that McGonigal is a future MVP, and you
- 50:21Speaker 2: want to lean in and go after that big payday.
- 50:24Speaker 2: I think it's $ 300, if I recall, for the MVP,
- 50:28Speaker 2: because if he wins both in the first year, it
- 50:32Speaker 2: becomes $ 400. So they do at least give you... Maybe
- 50:36Speaker 2: that's the big thing sometime here is we get like
- 50:38Speaker 2: an Ichiro situation sometime where he can go after the
- 50:41Speaker 2: rookie of the year and the MVP in that rookie year.
- 50:45Speaker 2: That's going to be the big news on this one.
- 50:47Speaker 2: But otherwise, man, don't be holding out for the Hall
- 50:50Speaker 2: of Fame induction or things like that because it's going
- 50:54Speaker 2: to be real tough to not sell every little piece
- 50:57Speaker 2: along the way for these guys. So, yeah, I'm taking
- 51:01Speaker 2: the $ 100 and running every day. Yep.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Let's get into some of the inserts that are in
- 51:06Speaker 1: this set, which I will say Bowman continues to have
- 51:09Speaker 1: strong inserts. So there are some that I think are
- 51:13Speaker 1: less successful, but they're trying, I think is the biggest
- 51:16Speaker 1: kind of component here that they're putting some effort into these,
- 51:19Speaker 1: as opposed to some of the ones that we've been
- 51:22Speaker 1: seeing more so in flagship and Chrome over the past
- 51:24Speaker 1: couple of years, where it does feel like a lazy
- 51:28Speaker 1: cut and paste from old big league designs or something
- 51:32Speaker 1: like that, where, Bowman continues to pump out pretty solid
- 51:36Speaker 1: insert designs. And like I said, putting effort into them.
- 51:40Speaker 1: So we've got some of the standard kind of returning
- 51:42Speaker 1: ones here where you've got the, it came to the
- 51:45Speaker 1: league insert, which is a motif on a monster kind
- 51:51Speaker 1: of coming through like a 1950s monster B film sort
- 51:55Speaker 1: of vibe to it with this year. It's got like
- 51:59Speaker 1: a octopus arms or whatever on it. And it's kind
- 52:01Speaker 1: of like, it's fun because on the, The rookie cards,
- 52:04Speaker 1: it's like slanting the Bowman logo and kind of messing
- 52:08Speaker 1: with the elements of the card. So a little bit
- 52:10Speaker 1: of interaction and action there. You've got the Garbage Pail
- 52:15Speaker 1: Kids parallels, which if you're familiar with the Garbage Pail
- 52:18Speaker 1: Kids cards, which is also owned by Topps, it's kind
- 52:23Speaker 1: of a gruesome, cartoony... little vibe where it's also like
- 52:30Speaker 1: it screams goth to me, but maybe that's just a
- 52:33Speaker 1: little bit more projection on like who usually collects Garbage
- 52:36Speaker 1: Pail Kids cards and especially did back in the 80s
- 52:40Speaker 1: and when they first came out. But they do that
- 52:43Speaker 1: and make little gruesome cartoons with each of the players
- 52:47Speaker 1: and put them in characters. What will make it fun
- 52:50Speaker 1: is we'll get to it in the autos in a
- 52:51Speaker 1: little bit where they're doing it with Hall of Famers
- 52:54Speaker 1: now and former stars as opposed to it just being
- 52:56Speaker 1: all current star, so there's a nice little twist there
- 52:59Speaker 1: in this checklist. You've got Final Draft, which is a
- 53:03Speaker 1: short print and it was actually in Bowman originally too.
- 53:08Speaker 1: It was a big case hit there where it just
- 53:11Speaker 1: looks like a graffiti wall behind the player essentially. Different logos,
- 53:15Speaker 1: different kind of words and stuff behind them. Those have
- 53:19Speaker 1: been pretty popular. You've got the very popular Crystallized, which
- 53:23Speaker 1: looks like the inside of a geode cut in half.
- 53:25Speaker 1: That's a short print, again. Spotlights, we talk about it
- 53:29Speaker 1: all the time. It's in our PC editions constantly. Might
- 53:33Speaker 1: be coming up in the second half. It looks like
- 53:37Speaker 1: a player is just underneath a spotlight with it's all
- 53:40Speaker 1: black behind them. And if it's a rookie card, it's
- 53:43Speaker 1: got the RC logo. Otherwise, it's just got the Bowman
- 53:46Speaker 1: Chrome logo on it. These are case hits in this product.
- 53:50Speaker 1: So when they first came out, they weren't always case hits.
- 53:53Speaker 1: And so something to keep in mind is that They
- 53:55Speaker 1: will be case hits in this one. Spring breakout, which
- 54:00Speaker 1: I couldn't recall if it was actually like a rehash
- 54:03Speaker 1: of an old insert, but it's been done before by moment,
- 54:07Speaker 1: certainly where it's got the prospects kind of in the
- 54:11Speaker 1: spring training kind of jerseys and stuff with motifs around
- 54:16Speaker 1: spring training behind them. Then you've got some new ones.
- 54:20Speaker 1: You've got big break, which this one is not successful
- 54:23Speaker 1: for me. It's not. It's got players holding the products
- 54:28Speaker 1: of Bowman that they were featured in. I think for
- 54:30Speaker 1: their first is the way that I was able to
- 54:32Speaker 1: track it through the cards. And it looks like a
- 54:34Speaker 1: pack is opening around them. But I think any time
- 54:38Speaker 1: that you're talking about cards that don't feature players in
- 54:42Speaker 1: their uniforms, I'm usually out. And that's what this is.
- 54:46Speaker 1: They took the pictures of these players with the products
- 54:49Speaker 1: like on a soundstage or whatever, and then put them
- 54:52Speaker 1: into the product from there. The other new ones you
- 54:55Speaker 1: have stars of the future. This is not successful for
- 55:00Speaker 1: me either. It's a, it kind of reminds me of a,
- 55:03Speaker 1: a ripoff of stars of MLB, but it's a little
- 55:05Speaker 1: more jazzed up. And then you've got travel tags, which
- 55:08Speaker 1: is pretty cool. I think it's like, you've seen variations
- 55:12Speaker 1: of stuff like that done before, but it is what
- 55:14Speaker 1: it sounds like. It's the travel tag of the player
- 55:17Speaker 1: that shows like information that looks like it's on a
- 55:21Speaker 1: piece of luggage. So, What do you think about these inserts?
- 55:24Speaker 1: Anything from the returners that especially strikes your eye this
- 55:27Speaker 1: time around? Any of the new inserts that really pop
- 55:30Speaker 1: for you?
- 55:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think from a returner perspective, you
- 55:33Speaker 2: have some classics here. You've got the Crystallize, the Spotlights.
- 55:37Speaker 2: It Came to the League is an intriguing, interesting one.
- 55:39Speaker 2: It's kind of fun, so I enjoy that. There's a
- 55:42Speaker 2: big following for the Garbage Pail Kids, so that works.
- 55:45Speaker 2: I think Final Draft is one that's actually kind of
- 55:47Speaker 2: jumping out to me. this year is it's just, it's
- 55:50Speaker 2: such a cool, uh, I'll say playful card. It feels
- 55:53Speaker 2: like it should have been like opening day or something
- 55:56Speaker 2: like that. Um, and, and so I think that is
- 55:58Speaker 2: a cool, fun, uh, interesting, uh, card. So I think
- 56:03Speaker 2: that's going to be a popular card. Um, from a
- 56:06Speaker 2: new perspective, I'm with you big break, not at all
- 56:09Speaker 2: interested in that stars of the future feels like stars
- 56:12Speaker 2: of MLB. It's basically the same thing. Uh, travel tags.
- 56:16Speaker 2: Like I feel like there was a Bowman's best product
- 56:18Speaker 2: that had this. Um, and I couldn't, I tried to
- 56:20Speaker 2: look it up because that was called something different, but
- 56:22Speaker 2: I want to say like 2013, 2014, something like that,
- 56:25Speaker 2: like Bowman's the best you were getting a similar kind
- 56:28Speaker 2: of look and feel. And so I do kind of
- 56:30Speaker 2: like it. Um, but I feel like it's also been
- 56:32Speaker 2: done before in another version of the product. And so
- 56:34Speaker 2: it's kind of like they knocked themselves off to a degree.
- 56:36Speaker 2: So I'm not quite, quite in on that. So, They're all...
- 56:40Speaker 2: The returning ones, I think they just did a good job,
- 56:42Speaker 2: the returning ones. They picked the best. They tried to
- 56:46Speaker 2: take some swings with the new, and I'm going to
- 56:47Speaker 2: say they more or less struck out. Maybe two strikes
- 56:52Speaker 2: and a foul tip with the travel tags from my perspective.
- 56:55Speaker 2: So I'm loving them generally, but the new ones, they
- 57:00Speaker 2: can remain new for 2026. We don't need to see
- 57:02Speaker 2: them again.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Yeah, the other factor here is that all the new ones...
- 57:07Speaker 1: usually one or two of them is a die cut.
- 57:10Speaker 1: There's no die cuts in these inserts this year that
- 57:12Speaker 1: they really kind of decided, Hey, we're not going to
- 57:15Speaker 1: worry about cutting these cards more than we need to.
- 57:18Speaker 1: But like last year we had the, the like guitar
- 57:22Speaker 1: ones and different die cuts. So that is actually a
- 57:25Speaker 1: little bit of a rarity to not have any die
- 57:28Speaker 1: cut inserts, which yeah, something I might note as we
- 57:32Speaker 1: go forward, maybe it is something that they're trying to,
- 57:35Speaker 1: peel back a little bit just to be able to
- 57:37Speaker 1: get the printing presses moving quick enough to get all
- 57:40Speaker 1: the product out the door over at Topps. All right,
- 57:43Speaker 1: let's get into the hits. Let's get into the autos
- 57:46Speaker 1: that you're chasing in those hobby boxes and in those
- 57:49Speaker 1: Breaker's Delights. And if you're lucky enough, maybe you'll find
- 57:52Speaker 1: some in your mega boxes as well. But this is
- 57:54Speaker 1: what everybody's going after. So obviously the on-card Bowman-first Uh, autos,
- 58:01Speaker 1: I mean, that is the highlight of the product and
- 58:03Speaker 1: you're going to be getting, especially the biggest chases. There
- 58:06Speaker 1: are going to be your Luis Hernandez, Angebel Gomez, Francisco Renteria,
- 58:11Speaker 1: all those dudes that we talked about in those upper
- 58:13Speaker 1: tiers from the prospect levels. And, uh, certainly from there
- 58:17Speaker 1: going into all the parallels as well, too. So the
- 58:20Speaker 1: lower number obviously is going to be more expensive. But
- 58:22Speaker 1: you will see a little bit of a bump for
- 58:24Speaker 1: like the blue on-head belt Gomez's will be a little
- 58:27Speaker 1: bit more expensive, probably than the greens because of the
- 58:30Speaker 1: color match with the Royals. Something to consider if you're
- 58:33Speaker 1: also a team collector out there. But other autos that
- 58:36Speaker 1: we've got related to prospect, those on-card autos, and especially
- 58:41Speaker 1: those first that you're chasing, you have Gold Ink numbered
- 58:44Speaker 1: to 15. And really, this is a lot like Tops
- 58:47Speaker 1: Chrome Gilded, if you're familiar with that product, where They
- 58:49Speaker 1: take the Bowman Chrome card and they just drip it
- 58:52Speaker 1: all in gold, essentially, where they put gold on every
- 58:55Speaker 1: aspect of the actual design. And then the ink itself
- 58:58Speaker 1: for the autographed is in gold. These have been highly popular.
- 59:02Speaker 1: They have been great additions, I think, to the Bowman
- 59:05Speaker 1: Chrome products. You also have international refractor autos where. that
- 59:10Speaker 1: is the ones I was talking about from the variations
- 59:12Speaker 1: with the background that is the city or the country
- 59:15Speaker 1: that they're from in the background of the actual card.
- 59:19Speaker 1: They're numbered to five, I believe. Those are going to
- 59:22Speaker 1: be big chases, especially when you're talking about some of
- 59:25Speaker 1: the ones that look really cool, actually, like some of
- 59:26Speaker 1: the maybe lesser known products or prospects that are from
- 59:30Speaker 1: like Korea and Japan and have some pretty cool backgrounds
- 59:35Speaker 1: behind them. And then you've got Pack Fractor autos that
- 59:38Speaker 1: are numbered to 89. Those are the ones that we're
- 59:41Speaker 1: talking about with the Bowman design that's green around the
- 59:45Speaker 1: outside that has kind of like the throwback to 1989
- 59:48Speaker 1: when Bowman was really put on the map and and
- 59:52Speaker 1: re-released to a wider audience than it was probably, you know,
- 59:57Speaker 1: previously from like the fifties and everything like that. So
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: what do you think about those autos for the Bowman
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: Chrome firsts and the prospects that you're chasing out there?
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, we've, we've exposed a gold ink or
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: espoused gold ink a number of times on here. I
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: absolutely love, love it. Probably my favorite is honestly the
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: Pack Fractors. I don't know if you've seen those in person,
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: but they are awesome cards. They are so, so clean.
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Even you throw the autos on there, it just absolutely works.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: And I do think you also mentioned the variations with
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: the WBC flags. As I've been looking at some of those,
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: those are sneaky for... Not necessarily the auto versions because
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: I don't think the autos have parallels. You can correct
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: me if I'm wrong. I think it's just straight versions
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: out of 26. But I've seen a number of them
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: in the colored parallels or just popping on the base version.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: So I think that they're going to be really, really
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: collectible there. But like I said, Pack Factor for me
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: is the one if you're going to chase, I think
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: it's going to be just surprising how valuable and how
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: much those stay. because it hits this older crowd of
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: collecting that absolutely loves that nostalgic of the wax era,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: but then the modern cards combined. So I think that's
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: the one that's going to stick out for me constantly.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I think those will look really great. So in
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: terms of other autos that you could be hitting are also...
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: those WBC flag variations you're talking about, they will be
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: numbered to 26 and featured veterans and rookies. You've got
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: a really cool design that I really liked when I
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: was seeing pictures of it. It's called across the seams.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: It's an auto where it looks like it's an autographed
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: baseball because there's just like a baseball design with the
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: player picture. But really the, the main center of it
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: is the baseball where, It reminds me a lot of
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: like Sweet Stitches, but it's just an on-card chrome auto
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: without the relic component to it. So I think those
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: will be really popular. The one that I've seen is
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: an Otani one, which, I mean, obviously is going to
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: be very popular, but it's going to be a cool
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: set for there. You're also looking at just auto relics.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: You do get a handful of jumbo relics that are
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: in this product that have autos with them. That's mostly
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: focused on rookies and veterans. Then all of the inserts
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: pretty much that we talked about, Garbage Pail Kids that
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: I alluded to, this is going to be pretty huge
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: with some of those Hall of Famers having Garbage Pail
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Kid cards that are then signed. Pretty funny to also
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: think about some of just like the more serious characters,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: I would say, that you're going to have to sign
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: these hilarious little Garbage Pail Kids cards and cartoons of
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: themselves where You know, you're looking at somebody like a
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Larry Walker. Well, maybe Larry Walker wasn't the best example,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: considering that SpongeBob shirt he wore during his Hall of
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: Fame announcement. But, you know, Reggie Jackson had to sign
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: this Garbage Pail Kids card that went out there. Will Clark,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Roger Clemens. You've got some pretty fun old names that
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: are in this set, along with Aaron Judges and Shohei
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Otani's and stuff like that. So these are I think
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: these are going to be wildly popular. And they're all
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: numbered to of 10. So that's even going to increase
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: the rarity and popularity and value of them across the board.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: You've also got big break. It'll be spring breakout travel tags.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: It came from the league. Rookie image variations all have
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: autos as well. And then one of the retrofractor dudes
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: is still alive.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: Jim Palmer.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: He signed some cards as well. Couldn't get Rogers Hornsby
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: out of the grave to sign his retrofractor. So yeah,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: What stands out to you from this additional list of autos?
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Because like I said, the first is the big chase
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: cards here in Bowman Chrome, but these other auto checklists
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: are strong. They are not filled with filler the way
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: that we've seen in Topps Chrome and Flagship that if
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: you're hitting an auto that isn't a Bowman first, you're
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: going to be hitting a pretty decent name here.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I got two thoughts here. One, I
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: can't stand the across the seams. You kind of liked it, man.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: That thing looks cheap. No, it's not for you. No,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: it's not for me. Like the design's pretty rough. It
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: feels like some of the back of the day, like
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: knockoff products trying to make their way in. So I'm
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: just gonna leave that one there. That said, I'll take
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: the Otani. Please send it my way. I'm perfectly fine
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: with that. I'll find a use for it. But the
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: other thing that I want to call out, because again,
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: the inserts we love, they look better with the auto.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: But what's really interesting as you look through a lot
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: of these is there's a big variation on the parallels
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: for them. And so like across the seams, you know,
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: you get the out of five red refractor, you have
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: a super fracture there. The big break doesn't have any parallels.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: The garbage pile kids is out of 10 for a
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: black perspective. It came to the league. There's out of 50s,
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: out of 25s, out of fives, like, you have to
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: be really careful as you open these and look at
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: them because some of them, like the base version that
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: you get, um, like WBC, uh, flag variation out of
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: the 26 is the base. And then there's only a
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: super fractor of it, but there's not no other parallels
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: where some of you have three or four parallels. So
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: I think you have to be very careful of what
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: it is just so you know, um, the rarity that
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: you're getting. Cause you might just get the spring breakout, uh,
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: base and it's not, It's a lot easier to get,
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: but you might then have a number of auto parallels
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: on it. So just keep an eye out for that.
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: I think that was a little interesting to see that
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: there really wasn't a big consistency across those. Like I said,
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: spring breakout, pack odds are not easy. They're like 1
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: in 22,000 hobby packs, but they do have a gold.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: They do have an orange. They do have a red.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: They do have a super fractor. So those are going
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: to be a lot more plentiful than some of these
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: other ones. Like, so they've crossed the seams, something like that,
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: which just aren't produced as much and might have a
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: similar pack odds, but they don't have all the parallels.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: So they're gonna be a little bit harder to find.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: So keep an eye on that as far as what's
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: actually available on these. Yep.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: I think that is a good call out just so
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: that you can also size it up correctly when you're
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: actually putting it and listing it on eBay. If you're
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: hitting these cards and wanting to list them that, know
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: what you've got and make sure that you're listing it
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: appropriately so that you don't end up ripping yourself off
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: at the end of the day. And then, yeah, that's
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: going to wrap us up for Bowman Chrome. Check out
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: that baseball release calendar, which is right after the rundown
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: of Bowman Chrome in the show notes. We do have
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: a few updates, which is Alan and Ginter and Museum
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Collection are officially set for October 7th. So those will
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: be out in just under a month. And I think
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: especially Alan and Ginter is going to be a bigger release.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: And we'll focus on that and do an overview when
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: it's coming out. We've also got Tops Holiday is on
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: the list now. So yeah. It's TBD, but it does
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: have a pre-order on September 21st and tops update September
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: 14th pre-order. So we've got some big major pre-orders here coming. Well,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: I just put holiday into the major big category just
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: because we love it so much, but maybe others out
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: there are not quite as enthused for holiday as we are,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: but we're going to have some fun cards that are
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: going to be coming out on the stretch in the fall.
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: to keep us amused after the baseball season wraps up.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: So with that, we're going to take a short break
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: and we will be back on the other side to
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: discuss the August player of the month PC picks.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: Welcome back, everybody. We're going to get right into.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Our, other main topic, it's not the main topic, of
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: covering the August Player of the Month PC picks. So
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: if it is your first time checking out this podcast, first, welcome.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: But this is one of the things that we do
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: every month throughout the season to honor the winners of
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: the Player of the Month Awards that happen, well, every month,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: as maybe you could have guessed. But what we do
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: is PC stands for Personal Collection, and On the podcast,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: we've got a running list of cards that we've put
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: into our personal collection for the pod. Mostly build off
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: of these Player of the Month awards, but also we
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: do award winners at the end of the year, some
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Hall of Fame inductees, and then other spots where, you know,
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: maybe we're talking about first round picks for fantasy. Then
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: we also... do a card draft as well. So there
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: is a link in the show notes that you can
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: see all the historical picks that we've made over the years.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: And yeah, it's a growing, growing list. So it's a
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: fun list. If you're also down the show notes and
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: you didn't check it out when you were listening to
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: the Bowman Chrome portion, or if you are, a really
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: insane sicko who did not listen to our Bowman Chrome overview,
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: but love cards and came straight to the player, the
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: month PC again, welcome. You are our people because this
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: is one of our favorite segments that we do every
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: month is go into those show notes, click on the
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: link that goes to the related Razzball post. You will
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: see a bunch of pictures for Bowman Chrome cards. And
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: then after that, the pictures of the PC cards that
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: we're going to pick here so that you can see
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: them as we try to describe them as well. Like
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I said, this is a fun monthly exercise that we
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: like to do and just to discuss cards, discuss great performances,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: and highlight some new players that maybe might not be
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: well collected in the hobby. I think it's also fun
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: to put together PCs like this where there is a
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: through thread where, you know, if you've got all MVPs,
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: I know, Brew, you've been working on putting together all
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Hall of Fame rookie cards and stuff. If you have
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: a story behind a PC, I think it really strengthens
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: it and makes it much more appreciable, as well as
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: it makes it much easier to sort for your own sake.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: So something to keep in mind. If you are following along,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: we got some fun choices this month. No Otani's, so
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: maybe your wallet can afford it. But we do have
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: a couple of other repeats that maybe will break your bank. Brute.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: let people know how much you love the, the player
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: of the month PC exercise. Cause I know you love
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: rifling through a eBay for these cards. And this is
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: one of your highlights when we get to do it
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: every few weeks.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: Yeah. It's so fun just because, um, you know, anybody
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: that's a collector in this hobby, um, and I think
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: collector and, uh, reseller and all that kind of merges
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: together at some point, uh, cause you got to somehow
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: fund your, your, your issues. Um, And you've got to
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: pick a lane. Like you said, I've been working recently.
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: It is a very labor of love. Takes a while
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: bringing in a lot of those Hall of Fame rookies
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: and getting those in my collection, kind of consolidating into
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: some of those. But I also have a big collection
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: of some of my favorite Cardinals players from when I
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: was growing up and things like that. And I'm always
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: adding to that. I got on a binge of buying
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: Jack Flaherty cards last night because, you know, why not?
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: But you don't get a chance to appreciate if you
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: do have your PC of what you go after, and
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: it's not just everything, you don't get a chance to
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: appreciate some of these cards that are out there for
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: the rest of the league or some of the products
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: that you're not going to be able to collect as
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: often because maybe you can't rip a Bowman Chrome, for example,
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: or you can't rip Five Star or whatever the product
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: may be. This is just a fun way to appreciate
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: the hobby and the art that is creating cards. And
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: take an appreciation for other teams and other players. And
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: if you were to collect that, what would you collect, right?
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: You and I always talk about the color matches and
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: things like that. That might work for our team. It
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: might not work for another team. And so it's just
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: fun to experience it from a different angle and get
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: a chance to investigate cards that we'll never be able
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: to add to our collection. Or you can't justify spending,
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: you know, even $ 10 on the random minor league card
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: that was autographed 10 years ago in person type of thing.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: But they're so cool that if it was like your
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: team and your PC, you'd like have to have that
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: in your collection. So absolutely love it. It's so fun.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: It just exposes to things that you don't get a
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: chance to see. It's kind of like going to a
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: big card show and just looking at cool cards, but
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: doing it through, it's just doing it online and hunting
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: and packing and trying to find what's out there for
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: these great players.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Yes, yes, exactly. Hear, hear. So let's get into our awards.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: We start in the AL side where we're going to
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: get into the player of the month. And it was, well,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: we'll get into it a little bit on the AL.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: The AL was a goofy month because Kansas City Royals
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: won both the pitcher and the player of the month,
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: even though they are pulling up last place in the
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: AL Central. Jack Caglione of the Royals was your winner
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: of the player of the month in the AL. A
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: fantastic month for him. 24 games. with six homers and
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: 26 RBI. The slash line was bananas. 4'11, 4'29, 6'84,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: good for a 2 of 8 WRC +. Pretty much
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: looked like Aaron Judge for an entire month. It was
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: really the breakout that we were looking for for Jack Caglione,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: who turns 24 in February, so things are really starting
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: to come together for him in Kansas City. He has
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: been battling an elbow injury the past week, so we'll
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: see maybe whether or not the Royals kind of start
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: debating shutting him down. But I think this is exactly
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: what you had been wanting to see from Caglione was
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: steady all season. And then this August really pushed him
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: forward to another level. So with that brew, you've got
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: lots of choices here for Jack Caglione been well-known in
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: the hobby ever since he came out of Florida and
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: even was well-known in the hobby at Florida. So where
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: did you go?
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so we're going to go back to our discussion
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: here about Bowman Chrome and how you have to be
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: careful of what you're actually looking at. Because I went
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: with a card from 2026 Bowman, which is a Chrome
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: card from that set. But it's not 2026 Bowman Chrome,
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: it's 2026 Bowman. But I'm going with the Patchwork Superfractor
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: 1 of 1 for Jack Caglione that came out in
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: this spring. This is actually a PSA 10 version. of
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: a Super Fractor. I'm not a big fan of gradient
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: Super Fractors, but I guess to protect it, you can
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: do it. And if you get a 10, hey, why not?
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: But for those that don't know, listen to our episode
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: about the patchwork cards. It kind of has the texture
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: look of a jersey behind it. And then a lot
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: of the pieces from the jersey, you got the MLB logo,
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: you got the rookie card logo, you got his number,
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: you got his name, all kind of like stitched onto
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: the card to kind of make it look like it's
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: part of the jersey. It's To me, it's kind of
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: like the same version of a downtown type of thing
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: on the other side of the hobby with football cards
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: where it's just like, hey, it's got this really unique
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: kind of look and could be really collectible. I think
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: they're absolutely brilliant. Getting it in the Super Fracture also
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: just gives it this extra little tinge to it that
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: really makes it pop. This one was sold on eBay.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: It was sold at Best Offer for around $ 12, 000. I
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: don't know what it actually sold for. If you saw it,
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: let me know, but It was not terribly affordable and
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: it happened to sell in the middle of August. And
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: so I'm not sure if that was a good time
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: to sell or maybe waited another week or two. It
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: would have been better, but definitely somebody looking to capitalize
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: on that Jack Caglione breakout.
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great choice. It's actually,
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: it's pretty close also to the final draft cards that
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: we were just talking about from Bowman Chrome. I'm also
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: trying to do a sorting of the game log to
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: see that was coming off of the tail of actually
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: he did like all of his damage in the early
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: half of August. He had four homers and knocked in
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: 13 RBI in the first half of August right before
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: this thing sold. So that's honestly, you might've already peaked
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: out with that one. So, Great choice to sell it.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: Great card. It's beautiful. I mean, it also just gives
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: you a fun RC logo location. You don't always get that.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: I mean, we just discussed with it came from the
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: league is doing a little bit with that in Bowman Chrome.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: But yeah, it's a fun card. You get Caglione in
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: the City Connect jerseys as well. So they highlight it well,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: where sometimes you get a City Connect jersey that on
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: a card and it just doesn't mesh well with everything else.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: But on this one, they made sure to use the
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: city connect logos and stuff and just really makes it pop.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Great choice for Jack Caglione.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: All right. Where'd you go with Cags?
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: Well, surprisingly he, this was the first two times he's
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: been in our PC. So we had the entire ocean
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: available to us of Jack Caglione cards and I had
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: to go with one when we talked about Bowman Chrome
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: this time last year, this was one of the cards
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: that I put into the show, like the related show
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: posting that had the, the pictures of the cards. Cause
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: it's so beautiful. I'm going with the 2025 Bowman Chrome
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: crystallized of Jack Caglione. This is what we were talking
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: about earlier when we were previewing Bowman Chrome 2026 is
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: this is the, card where you crack open a geode
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: and you get that in the background. Uh, it just
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: really pops here with, with Jack Caglione, the white and
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: blue Royals Jersey that he's running in. It is set
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: against a blue gold and white geode behind him. So clean,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: so beautiful. And just like this was actually the price
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: of it. Now of the one that I found is
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: about what the price of it was last year. fall.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: So that shows you kind of like where the prices
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: can kind of fluctuate, where the one that I linked to,
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: it's actually a 10, a Beckett 10. So that is
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: the price gap that you're kind of looking at from
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: where it came from Bowman Chrome previously. I think in
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: the raw version, you can probably find this for a
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: couple hundred bucks. But one of my favorite cards of
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: Caglion that's ever been made, and I had to put
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: in the PC because of that.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this is a great, great choice. I
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: absolutely love Crystallized. I think it's a really unique card. view, pattern,
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: brings in the color match that we love about it.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: And it's just a clean card. This is one of
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: the few cards that has nothing on it except for
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: the card design and the logo of the product. It
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: doesn't have on the front of the card the team name.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: It doesn't have a position. It doesn't have a border.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: It doesn't have anything else. It is just the design
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: of the card, the Bowman Chrome logo, and Jack Caglio.
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: So it's very, very clean and really just leans into
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: the overall design. This one feels more like art than
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: a card, and so I think it's a great, great ad.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: Only downfalls, the one that you're looking at here, was 0.5
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: away from a Beckett gold label on the surface. So
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: it could have been better, but I'll give it to you.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: This was a good ad.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: Okay. Well, I'll look for that next time when I'm
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: looking for a PC edition. Next player that we have
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: is Pete Crow Armstrong from the NL. I mean, this
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: is the month in August when he pretty much wrapped
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: up this MVP for 2026, popped 14 homers with 28 RBI,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: six stolen bases, and put up a slash line of 280, 366, 703,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: which is not even the highest slug of a month
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: this season. That was 781 back in June of when
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Pete Crow Armstrong was also put into this PC for
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: his work. So he's a repeat from 2026 here. He
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: also was previously in it, I believe, for another Rookie
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: of the Month way back during his debut year from
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: one of our early PC editions. So he's been in
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: the PC a few times. And I'm running out of
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: superlatives for this season for PCA because it does also
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: feel like every time you look up, he is popping
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: a homer. Already has three more in September. I think
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: it's going to be a lock for 40-40. It's going
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: to push 50-40, I think, to be able to really
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: put himself into some rarefied air. Only 24 years old.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: It's kind of nuts that we're getting this out of
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Pete Crow Armstrong, but it's been quite the fun ride.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Where'd you go this time for the PCA PC pick?
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: Well, I had to have a little fun with it.
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: We are recording, again, this is Wednesday evening, the 9th
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: of September here, and it is first game of the
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: NFL season. And just in case you're curious, the Patriots
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: are winning 7-0 against the Seahawks right now in the
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: third quarter. So I went with his 2026 Topps Chrome
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: Logofractor image variation, which, first of all, Logofractor cards, awesome.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Absolutely love those designs. They pop for those. The Logofractor
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: has the MLB logo. kind of patched logo on it,
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: just kind of spread across in a chrome across the
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: back of the card. But the image variation is PCA
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: in a big old Cubs hoodie. He's got his big
- 1:22:02Speaker 2: old sunglasses on and he's throwing a football. He is,
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: he's ready for the season to open. He's prepping, he's
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: getting himself ready. So I love, it's kind of like that.
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: This feels like an image that would be on like
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: a golden mirror. type of card, but they really did
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: it up well with the image variation here. So had
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: to have a little fun with it being opening night
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: for the NFL. We don't talk about other sports as
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: much on this podcast. And frankly, throughout the whole season,
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: we're just going to talk baseball. But there's a little
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: fun connection there. So go with the PCA image variation
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: from Topps Chrome. Available about $ 200 on eBay if you
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: want it.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, great pick for the theme, to put it on theme.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: You can't go wrong with the Topps logo Fractor as
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: well with that MLB logo all throughout it. They just
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: look beautiful no matter what, even if it is on
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: the crummy 2026 Topps design that I just integrated.
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: I was waiting for it.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: But the other thing is that this is almost like
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: a standard look for PCA on a card nowadays because
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: his Golden Mirror rookie card, which is also in the
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: PCA had him in this hoodie as well. So this
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: time you get him with the football, but you can
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: put together an entire collection of PCA cards that just
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: had him in this hoodie. I can tell you it's
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: gotten prohibitively more expensive because you can just see it
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: in the trends. Maybe I'll just dive right into my
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: card because that is a little bit of the theme
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: for my card and my pick because the one that
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: I found is one of the worst listing photos of
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: all time I've seen on eBay and still listed for
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: 200 bucks. It's the 2024 Bowman Spotlights of PCA, which
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: is also a remembrance of when PCA had a little
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: bit of chin hair that he was trying to make happen. Thankfully,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: he's gotten rid of it because it did not work
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: for him. But this is the classic Bowman Spotlight that
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: we were talking about. Kind of rounds out the theme
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: that I did on the double dunk for Bowman Chrome cards.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: But yeah, it's just black in the background. And then
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you've got PCA swinging the bat and kind of... He
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: obviously ripped a ball foul and is watching it. But
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: you've just got the rookie logo and the Bowman Chrome logo.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: That's all that's on the front of it. Very, very clean.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: But this card is listed for $ 300 with this awful
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: photo on eBay. This card, just a couple months ago,
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: was running like less than $ 100. Like, the PCA market
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: has gone bananas. So... A reminder out there that if
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: you were sitting on any PCA cards, it might be
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: time to move them because the prices are starting to
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: verge on Aaron Judge and Otani territory. Maybe PCA's kind
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: of didn't know. I mean, he's proven us wrong at
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: every turn, and maybe this is the beginning of a
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: Hall of Fame career. But at the same time, I
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: don't know how much more juice there is even in
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: the PCA card market. So if you've been sitting on
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: some peak for Armstrong cards, or know that you've got
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: some huddled away somewhere, it might be time to start
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: pulling them out because when this MVP announcement, I think
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: hits for PCA, that's probably when we're going to crest
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: at the peak of the, of the value across the board.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: And you're going to want to jump on that as
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: quick as you can.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. Like if you, and you can just
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: like base inserts, things like that, things that are, you know,
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: dollar box finds your $ 5 cards right now, like that's
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: not going to last. So time to go after it. But,
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: Love this pick. Love spotlight cards. I want to say
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: with this, with the way they did the photo, it
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: looks like he's holding a lightsaber. It's just a fun
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: little one there. There's a bat actually going off the card.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: The only thing I'm going to nitpick at this one
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: is I can't stop seeing Kyle Schwarber with the goatee
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: he's got going on here. It looks like a young
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: Kyle Schwarber. I mean, hey, if that's the outcome for PCA,
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: first of all, PCA really slowed down. If that's the
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: case from, from a speed perspective. But Hey, I think
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: this is a great pick. And especially with the Cub
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: fans out there, there's a lot of Cubby blue on
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: this one for folks, especially at the socks. He's got
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: the nice big Cub logo on the socks on this
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: one as well. He's rocking it old school for sure.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: Great pick.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: Yeah. And I mean, I think this is the only
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: one that's available right now on eBay. So you've got
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: to kind of take your risk on this crummy photo
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: that like, uh, I almost had to go with a
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: parallel just cause I couldn't find a base to take a,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: find a photo of to make my pick. So it
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: is a hot card right now. Uh, let's get over
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: to those pictures on the AL side. We have a,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: another Royal, as I, as I said at the beginning,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: it was Noah Cameron who, uh, it was a run man.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: And he's still on it that like, he's still pitching
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: pretty well during August. He put up a one 87
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: ERA across his five starts after, I mean, it was
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: not a great start to the season, uh, and has
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: now lowered his ERA significantly to being a useful pitcher
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: for fantasy, gotten it below the four mark. I highlighted
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: him in a piece at BP recently, and honestly, all
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: it is is that he's got a nasty slider and
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: he's just throwing it more. Who would have guessed that
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: would work? So stop throwing your fastball, Noah Cameron. Continue
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: to stop throwing your fastball because it is working for you.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: It won you a Player of the Month award in
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the ALA, Obviously, the first time that we were discussing
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: Noah Cameron for the PC. Where'd you go, Brew?
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Noah Cameron, there weren't a lot of options
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: out there for Noah Cameron, to be honest.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Not a very photogenic dude either.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: No, no, probably not. But I went with his... rookie
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: card from tops 2025 update, but I'm going with the
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: true photo variation, uh, kind of, kind of to a
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: degree of what we just talked about with crystallize. Um,
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: what this does is it takes all the borders off
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: the cards. It is just the photo, um, and the,
- 1:28:05Speaker 2: the tops logo and the, and the RC logo. That's
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: the only things on that. So this is him, uh,
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: delivering a pitch. Uh, the, the, the photo is taken
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: very clearly right behind home plate, you know, it was
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: a zoomed in, um, To your point, probably not the
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: most photogenic here. He's putting all the effort into it.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: But of all the cards out there, a lot of
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: them were very, very similar for Cameron. So I wanted
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: something a little bit unique, and that's kind of what
- 1:28:31Speaker 2: the True Photo variation gave us, was a little bit
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: more of a unique card. And I I always appreciate
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: this type of variation because I see people all the
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: time confused by it because it just, it doesn't look
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: like anything. It's just, it's like you just took a
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: photo and put it in there. And so I think
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: it's a, it's a fun variation because of that. So
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: this one's available right now for about 70 bucks on
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: eBay and probably could get a good best offer in
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: on that one. uh, as well. Uh, I don't think
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: the Noah Cameron, uh, market's going to kind of follow
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: the PCA market at any time soon. Uh, pitchers, uh,
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: don't do so well there. And, uh, Noah Cameron doesn't
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: like blow you away necessarily, uh, from, uh, the, the
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: mound personality, but Hey, for UKC fans, there there's, you know,
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: this is a guy that, uh, if you want to
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: go get the true photo variation, it's, it's readily available. Yeah.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: I mean, I think this, we are into clean cards
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: tonight that, you know, This is another one that is
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: just beautiful. It's clean. And what I love about the
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: true variation is you still get the standard normal back
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: that you get on a, on a card. So you
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: get the, the little story about him whiffing dudes in
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: the minor leagues and his stats. And the other component
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: I like about this is it's a pretty good action shot.
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: It's not exactly the most flattering. You got these rec
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: specs kind of popping off his face, but, What stands
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: out to me when I'm watching Noah Cameron pitch is
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: he's a big dude. He's 6'3, 220, and he's got thick,
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: thick thighs, and you can see that in this true variation.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: It's mostly a thigh variation card, so great pick.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: That's very true.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: What did you do with Noah Cameron? How out of
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: the box were you able to get?
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: I didn't go very far out of the box. I
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: stayed pretty far inside the box, actually, that, you know,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: especially the first time you're going into the P.C., Usually
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: we do take a Bowman first or a Topps Chrome
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: Auto to put in. And that's what I'm doing. I mean,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: I'm going to take the blue wave parallel because it
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: looks great. And man, Royals, it's a great PC to
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: have because like the blue variations across the board match everything.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Because even when he's in the light blue uniform like
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: he is on this photo, that matches with the dark
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: blue as well. So you've got a great design here
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: from the 2025 Topps Chrome Update Series and the Chrome
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: of 150 Blue Wave Refractor for Noah Cameron. A little
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: bit less of an action shot than what you picked
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: for yours, but you're getting a nice little in Cameron autograph.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: You can tell exactly what his name is and you're
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: getting those ray waves popping while you're looking at this card.
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: I mean, whoever took this photo, maybe clean your leather
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: couch a little bit. That would be good for you.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: But also you understood the assignment because you took a
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: picture of this wave variation refractor in some great sunlight.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: That is maybe one of my favorite things to do
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: during the summer is go take a cool refractor outside,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: look at it in the sun, and you can entertain
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: yourself for hours. So that's where I'm going with Noah Cameron.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: So I will talk about the card in a second,
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: but I think it's funny because With refractors, it's one
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: of the funniest things to take photos for eBay. I
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: think across the hobby. Because you want to be able
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: to show the true... When you hold a refractor in
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: your hand, you can feel how cool and neat and
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: fun to look at that card it is. But it's
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: so hard sometimes to get a photo of it because
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: you can't use a flash. And my go-to is I
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: have a big slider back door that has the sunlight
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: comes in the afternoon. I put it on my tile
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: floor right next to my slider and I get to
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: the sunlight that can hit it. And it looks. I
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: haven't used the leather couch attempt yet. Maybe I'll have
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: to give that a try. I'm going to give it
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: the credit. This is the ottoman by the window here.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: But enjoy that. To your point, the blue always works
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: for the Royals. I also love a guy that actually
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: you can read his autograph on. Um, that's not out there.
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: I mean, he didn't quite get Noah out there. It's
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: just got in.
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: Cameron, but yeah, you got, you got the Cameron. That's
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: how he's signing checks. I think, you know what I mean?
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. I mean, Hey, I can't, you can't read
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: my signature when I sign a check, uh, who signs
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: checks anyway. But, um, so I, I, I think it's
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: a great, uh, great card, uh, to your point, like
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: you can't go wrong with adding a guy to your,
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: the PC that likely you aren't going to add again.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: or don't have anything in there of going with their
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: Bowman first color match or a Topps Chrome auto rookie
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: color match. Those are going to be great, and the
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: Ray Wave really works on this one. So really, really
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: good pick for Noah Cameron. Welcome to the PC.
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: All right. Well, let's go to the NL side. The
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: pitcher of the month there was Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Lizardo. Bananas,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: August for him, 34 and a third innings of 131 ERA.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: While just giving up two homers. And striking out 46 batters.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: And man. The K's were there. The lack of walks.
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: Has stuck now for a couple months. Where it was
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: looking shaky. For Lizardo out the gate. But now he is.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: I mean he's been an ace. For quite a good
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: stretch here. The K minus BB was 27.8%. In August.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: He is rolling right now.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: And.
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: Just continues to roll, even though like he, well, actually, yeah,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: that was just this past week on Monday when he
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: threw the shutout with 12 Ks against the Braves that, um,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: he might be the best starter in that rotation right
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: now as the Phillies are going into the playoffs. Lizardo,
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: it's your first time in the pod of PC here.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: So welcome brew. Where'd you go?
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: Yeah. So, um, when I first looked at Luzardo, it's
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: hard to not see about a thousand cards of him
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: in athletics, Jersey.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: I was going to say that he'd like, he's, he's
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: haunted me from 2020 ripping past. Cause he was in
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: every product, every insert set in 2020.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: Yeah. And that was like the, the COVID times that
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: was where everybody's locked down. And so like, I still
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: go through boxes today and I'm like, there's a stack
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: of Luzardo rookies. And, and the, They just don't hold
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: up because it's the athletics. And he didn't really ever
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: have his true breakout with them. He's really done that
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: with the Phillies. So I had to look for a
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: Phillies card. And I know you don't love the 2026 design,
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: but there's some cool things in it. And so I'm
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: going with the 2026 Topps Chrome light board logo card
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: for Jesus Luzardo. For those that don't know, the light
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: board is where they have the logo kind of lit
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: up behind them. kind of like the old bar sign
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: that you may have there. And it just absolutely pops
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: from a refractor standpoint. So it's the basic design of
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: the Topps Chrome refractor, but the background has been replaced
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: by the Phillies logo here. And this card, he is just,
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: he is heaving that ball. You can tell he put
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: everything behind the pitch that he threw. So it's actually there.
- 1:35:46Speaker 2: The other thing I like is it's, I know I
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: went a little off the rails on some earlier cards
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: with some price points here. This is affordable. It's like $ 20.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: It's $ 20 on eBay, and you probably can find it
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: cheaper elsewhere. But it's just a cool, cool card, and
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: I wanted him in the Phillies uniform, and I love
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: the kind of Phillies cream uniform. It just feels very,
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: very clean. So that's where I went with Mr. Luzardo.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick. You're also
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: just like, With the alternates, you get that blue cap,
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: which mixes with the blue of the Liberty Bell and
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: the logo. So it's not kind of like an overload
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: of red for you. Great little refractor. Nice photo. This
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: person did not have to use their couch to set
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: it up. They've got the full light box and everything.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: Respected the hell out of this $ 20 Jesus Lizardo card.
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: But yeah, great pick right here. And I think it's
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: a great action shot of Lizardo while also kind of like,
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: commemorating the month very well with just the Phillies-ness of
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: it all.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: Awesome. Where did you go with Lizardo? Did you pull
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: one of those athletic cards out of the dollar box
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: or did you upgrade to a Phillies jersey?
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: I did not and I do think that it's really
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: funny that we both had the same sort of ick
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: when we were going through Jesus Lizardo options and had
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: flashbacks to ripping all that 2020 product and ending up
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: with it and it's tucked away somewhere on our offices,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: all these Lizardo stacks we've got. I also had to
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: go with the Phillies card. I went with 2025 Stadium
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Club Chrome with an on-card auto of 25, the foil
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: fracture variation. This does speak a little bit to what
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: you're talking about with the difficulty of trying to photograph
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: of a refractor because this person used a scanner and
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: it came through a little funky, so it doesn't do
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: true justice to the foil fracture, but It's one of
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: the better squared up photos of it. You can find
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: other photos of it where you can see how well
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: it pops, but it's a pretty straightforward stadium club card
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: where you get, you know, mostly the action shot of
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: Luzardo celebrating after probably striking somebody out or completing another
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: complete game, a nice little signature, you know, nothing too fancy,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: but nothing where you're disappointed by it. And yeah, relatively affordable,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: only a hundred bucks and, This is a guy who
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: is relatively young, might make some hay for himself and
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: put himself in some Cy Young conversations in the future.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: So if you're looking for a cheap on-card auto, well,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: maybe not cheap, but affordable on-card auto of an up-and-coming
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: pitching star, I don't think you can go wrong with
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: this 2025 Stadium Club foil fractor. He's a Cesaro auto.
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it. I always enjoy a guy that
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: works their Jersey number into their autograph. And I beyond,
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: I believe a J to start this autograph. I can't
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: tell you what the other letter is in his autograph,
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: but he has a nice 44 in there, which I
- 1:38:45Speaker 2: always love without extra touch from a player. Also have
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: to love just the stadium club, the clean cuts on
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: this one. The foil board, foil fracture aspect of this
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: kind of takes away the background of the photo, but
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: it still is a great photo of him clearly celebrating,
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: pumped up. Showing the emotion. Gotta love it in today's
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: modern game when people can show the emotion as they're
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: making their way through the game. So great pick. It's
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: been a while since we brought Stadium Club in, which
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: is a little disappointing to us on that aspect. So
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: appreciate you picking us back up there.
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: Yeah, no problem. All right, well, that's going to wrap
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: up our bespected cold pitcher portion of the podcast. So
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: let's get into it. This is the main reason I
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: wanted to do this PC Player of the Month segment
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: and make sure that we didn't lose sight of the
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: August ones because the banana man himself, outfielder from the
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: Chicago White Sox, Tristan Peters, took home the Rookie of
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: the Month award on the AL, which is bananas, obviously,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: 26 years old. Another Southern Illinois guy, he went to SIUC,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: not E like our man Avery earlier, but a tried
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: and true Valley member. So we will never overlook that,
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: Tristan Peters. Great August, 26 games where he popped six homers,
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: including a stretch of five in a row, I believe,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: of games like just could not be stopped. 14 runs,
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: 14 RBI. and a slash line of 320, 414, 640.
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: That's right, Tristan Peters slugged 640 over an entire month.
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: Who would have thunk? This is a guy who bounced around,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: was DFA'd by the Rays last offseason, found his way
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: to the White Sox as a fourth outfielder to open
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: the season, and has been a big portion of their
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: magical run. So this is going to be a great
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: time to commemorate a player that I don't know if
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: we're ever going to get to talk about for the
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: PC ever again because it was a magical month for
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: Tristan Peters, magical year for the Chicago White Sox. What
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: choice did you make for the PC here?
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: Yeah, to your point about the journeyman nature of his career,
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: I wanted something in the White Sox jersey, and there
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: was not much, clearly, because he just joined the White
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: Sox this year. So I had to dip into the
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: tops now, which is not usually where I like to go.
- 1:41:15Speaker 2: but I had to dip into it. So I'm going
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: with this tops now card from April 3rd, which is
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: his first RBI where he walked off against Toronto. And
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: it's his, the out of 10 version, which is the
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: black parallel. So it is him getting celebrated. You got
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: the Gatorade jug being dumped on him after the game.
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: I'm guessing during the interview, he doesn't have his hat
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: on or anything like that. So yeah, Absolutely just the
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: time of their life. This is when the White Sox
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: were like really figuring out that they kind of had
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: a special team and they were doing things people didn't
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: quite expect. And I think this just is emblematic of that.
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: So going with the Tristan Peters, three of 10 tops
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: now black foil card from April of this year. Yes.
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: Great choice. Great action shot of like, they couldn't have
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: like squared up the Gatorade bath any better. And with
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: the waterfall coming down over him, And kind of like
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: the way that Royals and blue parallels are synonymous, white
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: socks and all black refractors in the modern design, you know,
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: since they flipped to the black and white uniforms in
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: the early 90s, that like, it's just beautiful. I've never
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: seen a black parallel. Well, except for you will get
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: it sometimes when they're like wearing like the throwback's. of
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: the socks with the hitting guy from the eighties with
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: the Navy blue and red and white uniforms. That'll be
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: on a black parallel and I'll kind of throw you off.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: But if you get the, the standard white socks uniforms
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: with the black and white and the silver. Perfect. It's fantastic.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: So great choice here. And making sure that our boy,
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: the banana man got a socks card into the PC.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: Just gotta be careful. Those black parallels. Cause if it's
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: a black paper, those corners are going to be gone.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: Well, thankfully, it's a White Sox card, so you probably
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: didn't pay much for it. That's true.
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: This was listed for $ 2. 05 or best offer on eBay.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: I'm not sure. Actually, it was sold. I don't know
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: what it actually went for. So, hey, maybe that's the
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: way to go. But, yeah, Tristan Peters is generally not
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: going to be the priciest card. But, anyway, where did
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: you go with Banana Man?
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: Well, when I discovered that he was in the 2022
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: Choice Richmond Flying Squirrels update set, not the regular set.
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: He was in the update set when he was coming
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: through the Giants minor league system. That shows you where
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Tristan Peters was rising from. It had to go in.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: That's the rule of the pod. If you've got a
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: Richmond Flying Squirrels card, it's got to go in the PC.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: And so I had to do that. I have to
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: leave the link, though, to TCDB because there aren't any
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: of these on eBay. They've all been hoovered up that
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: everybody's bought all the Tristan Peters, Richmond Flying Squirrels cards
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: that have been appearing on the market over time. So
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: if you want one, you're going to have to set
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: an alert for it on eBay because I think you're
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: going to be waiting in line behind other White Sox
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: fans that have also been scooping these up. So who
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: knows what the price of these is? If you are
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: somebody who goes to Richmond, Virginia Flying Squirrels games regularly
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: and you're buying the cards and you've got this, you
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: might want to list it because you might be able
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: to turn a decent little profit on your 2022 choice
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: Richmond Flying Squirrels update Tristan Peters card. Who would have
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: thunk it?
- 1:44:51Speaker 2: I'm so mad at you. I was mad at myself
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: because I did not realize that that he was on
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: the flying squirrels because I think every other time we've
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: had a flying squirrels guy, I've added it to the
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: PC and, uh, give you credit. You, you got to
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: our show notes first, you had your cards in there first.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: So even if I had, you had first dibs to it. Uh,
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: but I w I saw this come up like, Oh gosh,
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: dang it. I was looking, I got laser focused on,
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: I want a black parallel from a white socks card
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: and I was laser focused. And then you pull this,
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: probably $ 3 card out.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: It used to be $ 3.
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: It used to be a $ 3 card. Yeah. Like the
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: sky's the limit. Like if you've got the only one
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: on eBay, you can ask whatever you want. But you,
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: you pull this thing out and I'm sitting here going,
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: that is such a much better card than that. So
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: I'm going to borrow your PC here at some point
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: on this one.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: Well, I appreciate it. Yeah, it is. I mean, it's
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: a pretty straightforward card. You got Tristan Peters batting since
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: it's a choice minor league card. Same photo on the
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: front and back. That was probably taken by an amateur photographer,
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: but you've got to love a Richmond Flying Squirrels card. Okay,
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: let's wrap this up with the NL Rookie of the Month,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: and we've got a repeat here. Sal Stewart is back
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: again after a great month that he put up in August.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: He crossed 100 RBIs in the month. Not all in
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: August for the season. And got over 30 homers. Again,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: not all in August for the season, which should pretty
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: much lock up the rookie of the year for him.
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: But like I said, I think Nolan McClain's still nipping
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: at his heels. And when people kind of line everything up,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: we might get a closer race than you might expect,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: given the numbers that Sal Stewart has put up. August
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: was great for him. Eight home runs with 21 RBIs
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: while slashing 304, 349, 503.
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: So....
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: We've had one go of Sal Stewart in the PC
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: at the beginning of the year for April. The nice
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: thing is, between April and now, there's been plenty of
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: Sal Stewart cards that have come out in all of
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: the flagship products and everything. We were kind of scraping
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: the barrel at the beginning of the season. So you've
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: got a lot more choices. Where'd you go this time around?
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: Well, I know we kind of denigrated Noah Cameron earlier
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: for his photogenic-ness. And Sal Stewart, I'm sorry, Sal. The
- 1:47:14Speaker 2: cards don't always do you justice. not the most photogenic guy.
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: We did denigrate Sal Stewart for this back on the
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: April playoff.
- 1:47:24Speaker 2: So we'll be consistent. I will be a little bit
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: more polite here and say that's part of the reason
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: I chose this card. Other part was this other conversation
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: that we were having. I went with the 2026 Bowman Chrome.
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: It came to the league insert for Sal Stewart here
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: as a reminder that what we talked about earlier is
- 1:47:42Speaker 2: that it came to the league. It's some kind of
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: Interesting sea monster attacking him. Looks like a large octopus
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: that is grabbing the Bowman logo. It's wrapping around Sal
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: Stewart as he's taking a big swing. It's just a goofy,
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: funny card. And for a guy that most of his
- 1:47:59Speaker 2: cards just don't do him justice, it felt right to
- 1:48:02Speaker 2: give him kind of this goofy, silly card. So this
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: is $ 25 if you want to buy it on eBay today.
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: Nothing too crazy. It is his rookie card. But it
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: is fun to kind of wrap up the conversation where
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: we talked about Bowman Chrome earlier with a fun Bowman
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: Chrome insert for It Came to the League. So that's
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: where I'm going with Sal Stewart. And I'm very, very
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: proud that we didn't completely denigrate him this time around.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he certainly, he looks better in this
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: than this photo than he did in some of our
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: choices back in April. But yeah, this is a great insert.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: I like it much better this year than it looked
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: last last year where it had more of like an
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: alien theme to it, that the cracking motif and the
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: design with the Island in the background, it just works
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: really well. I think with the parallel and being like
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: a borderless card, I think is a better way to
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: go when you're an insert like this, then the previous
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: versions of this had more of a border to it
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: and kind of felt more contained where this does feel
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: a little bit more wild. So great pick.
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: Yep. All right. Finish this up.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: Mr.
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: Stewart, where did you go? Yep.
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: I went right back to 2026 Bowman Chrome with you
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: because it's exactly the card that we were talking about earlier,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: that you've got the red rookie variation short print card
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: with the red RC logo on it, which great color
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: match for Redsman. But you're probably going to want to
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: be turning these in because Sal Stewart, I hate to
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: break it to you, probably not going to the Hall
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: of Fame in the future. So no need to hold
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: out for that. But it's a nice little card of
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: him squared up. He's doing a bat flip after probably
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: popping a homer earlier this season or late last season
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: as he's about to round the bases. And then you're
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: looking at the most intriguing part of this card is
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: pretty much all of them on eBay right now are
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: listed at like $ 75, which, I mean, if you like
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: making pennies at a time, I think you could just
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: do a clean sweep of eBay at $ 75 pop. Well, plus...
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: shipping and taxes, you'll be looking probably more at like
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: 90 bucks all in. But if you're just want a
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: hundred bucks of redemption from fanatics, that's 10 free dollars.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: So you can go through eBay and I think scour
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: and pick these up, which is also kind of funny
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: because the market has not acted like this for the
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: other red RC logo variation cards that lots of the
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: other ones were beyond a hundred dollars or settled around
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: a hundred dollars. It's really strange that you've got a
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: guy that's in the driver's seat of the NL Rookie
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: of the Year that is going to make $ 100 in
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: the redemption of this card, and it's hovering around $ 70,
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: $ 75 right now on eBay, right?
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of funny. I think there's just something
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: about Sal Stewart not being that exciting of a player.
- 1:50:51Speaker 2: He just is a big bopper. He just goes up
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: and hits it out there. And I think for so long,
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: folks thought J.J. Weatherholt was the guy– He had a
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: more all-around game. Until his injury, I think there was
- 1:51:02Speaker 2: still an argument for it. And so I think people
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: just still, for whatever reason, don't believe in it. But
- 1:51:09Speaker 2: you're right. Like, yeah, after some taxing and shipping, but
- 1:51:11Speaker 2: you still might be able to squeak out $ 20 of
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: Fanatics credit here. And if you're looking to buy some
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: future products, like, take the 20% discount and run with it. Like,
- 1:51:20Speaker 2: it feels pretty gosh darn simple here. So good pick.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: Probably the first time we've ever had a red rookie
- 1:51:27Speaker 2: variation logo. that's actually going to pay off in the
- 1:51:31Speaker 2: PC or so.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. So scoop them up if you, if you want, or,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: I mean, also if you want to make the PC edition,
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: wait until after March of next year, when the bomb
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: is going to fall out of this card and people, uh,
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: will be moving it because I don't think sells where
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: it's even going to double dip on that MVP either
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: when it's going to be a backup for redemption.
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: So you, you might be honest with me though. Maybe
- 1:51:55Speaker 2: that's the time to buy these types of cards because,
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: is after the rookie redemption, wait till like they have
- 1:52:02Speaker 2: a down season and they're out there for like five, seven,
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: 10 bucks and just buy like 20 of them. And
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: cause if they win the MVP, they're 300 bucks a piece. Like, right.
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: You know, it's, it's a, it's a low risk gamble.
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: So maybe that's the play. Maybe I like where you're
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: going here.
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: Maybe we found the new market and efficiencies on these
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: red RC cards. Okay, well, that's going to wrap us
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: up for this week. We greatly appreciate you checking out

- 1:53:08Speaker 2: on the weekends doing hitter profiles, top 100 hitter rankings.
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: Don't tell Gray I've kind of stopped doing the hitter
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: rankings for the rest of the year because they're not
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: that meaningful at this point in time. Pick your hot hand,
- 1:53:18Speaker 2: go with it. But I will be finishing out the
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: season with hitter profiles, actually looking a little bit at
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: 2027 and some potential breakouts, sleepers, guys like that. But
- 1:53:28Speaker 2: if you're kind of still with things and you can't
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: make the trades, but you're just kind of already thinking ahead,
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: That's the place to be. So, Cooley, where can folks
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: find you?
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: Yes, you can find me on blueskyatmcool7, spelled C-O-U-I-L-L on

- 1:53:50Speaker 1: just random topics that get thrown at me. We've been
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: having a great time. It's been a blast of a
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: year over at BP. It is behind a paywall of subscription,
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: but you're going to get more than your money's worth
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: out of baseball prospectus for sure. And you can find

- 1:54:19Speaker 1: You can just copy and paste or click on links.
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: Made it very, very easy for you. Thanks again for
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: checking out our podcast and we will be back roughly
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: same time, same place next week. Thanks everybody.
