A freight train derailed in northern Quebec in December, with no injuries but 29 cars and a locomotive ending up off the rails. The Transportation Safety Board can’t pinpoint a single cause, but suspects extreme cold weakening the metal combined with a previous train’s faulty wheel adding stress that snapped the rail.
