- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:12Hi, I'm Chucky. I'm your friend to the end.
- 0:15Heidi Ho. Welcome to watching.
- 0:19Scary movie The. Podcast where we talk about the
- 0:21good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd and all of our favorite.
- 0:24And least favorite scary movies because we believe every horror
- 0:27movie rightfully has this fan base.
- 0:29Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:31My name is Jesse. And welcome to a brand new
- 0:33franchise everybody. Yeah, we have finished our Saw
- 0:38franchise and we have our wrap up that released this past
- 0:41weekend. So now it is time for us to go
- 0:44into Child's Play. We're gonna be tackling Chucky.
- 0:47Yeah, yeah. So for the next several months,
- 0:50TuneIn in the midst of all of our other movie coverage, once a
- 0:54month we will be covering a movie from the Chucky franchise
- 0:57in chronological order, and we're very excited about this.
- 1:00Very much, yes, yes, yes. OK.
- 1:03So do we have anything that we need to announce?
- 1:06So as Travis already said, we do have our saw wrap up that came
- 1:11out as a bonus episode this past Sunday.
- 1:13Check it out. We're a mess.
- 1:15It was fun. Those are live and unedited.
- 1:18So it just it. It is what?
- 1:19It is. And then just a reminder, this
- 1:24is our final episode of Pride Month.
- 1:26All of our Patreon proceeds for this month are going towards The
- 1:30Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is a crisis,
- 1:34suicide prevention resource, all of those different things,
- 1:40outlet for LGBTQ young people. So it is a fantastic, fantastic
- 1:47organization and we're happy to be able to donate to them.
- 1:51If you want to make a donation through our Patreon, feel free
- 1:55to go over there and just, you know, subscribe for a month.
- 1:57You get some content, bonus episodes, all that jazz, and
- 2:00yeah, you'll be donating to a great cause.
- 2:03Yeah, as long as you do it before, before July 1st so yeah
- 2:07and, and you can unsubscribe right away if you want, but or,
- 2:11or you can hang around for a little bit and see some of the
- 2:14goodies We. Have in there.
- 2:15Yeah. Enjoy it.
- 2:16Yeah. OK, so I have our poll results
- 2:20from last week's movie, and we talked about freaky, freaky.
- 2:24And I wanted to ask everybody, if Vince Vaughn were
- 2:29unavailable, who would you pick to play the Butcher?
- 2:33I had four people, Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, David Cross and
- 2:38Owen Wilson. I came up with these four
- 2:40because I just was trying to figure out big comedic actors of
- 2:45that era that Vince Vaughn was very big in.
- 2:48OK. And these four all kind of fit
- 2:51that David Cross not really been like a big time guy, but I like
- 2:55him. Why?
- 2:55And I I thought about him. It's like he would be like a fun
- 2:58fit for this. And I like to say that I have a
- 3:00David Cross tattoo because in a way I do.
- 3:02I have a evo tattoo from Futurama, but Evo's voiced by
- 3:07David Cross. So OK, over on Instagram, 11%
- 3:12would want Jim Carrey, 33% Ben Stiller, 33% David Cross, 22%
- 3:19Owen Wilson. OK, Twitter 41% Jim Carrey, 24%
- 3:25Ben Stiller, 24% David Cross, 11% Owen Wilson.
- 3:31OK. So God, man, that's pretty
- 3:35close. Ben Stiller and David cross time
- 3:38on both platforms. I would give them the win they
- 3:41they tie for the win there. Yeah.
- 3:42OK. Realistically, I think out of
- 3:46all of those, the ones that the one that would be the best in
- 3:52this role would be David Cross. That was my thought too, and
- 3:55that's who I've picked. But there's also another part of
- 3:58me that wants to pick Owen Wilson just because I have this
- 4:01ongoing thing. Every time I see one of the
- 4:03Wilson brothers I'm like Owen could do Lukes roles but Luke
- 4:07couldn't do Owens roles. Well we had somebody point out
- 4:10in the comments that he did play a serial killer in a movie that
- 4:15is a non comedy so he can do it. I think he could do it.
- 4:19I just think David Cross. If David Cross wasn't on the
- 4:21list, Owen Wilson would be my pick for sure.
- 4:23But I think David Cross edges him out just a little bit.
- 4:25Because David Cross might be a legit maniac.
- 4:28Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:29I picked David Cross, we had one right.
- 4:31And by the way, Joe Fricatron, he picked Will Ferrell.
- 4:35He's he gave a great reasoning because he's the only one that
- 4:39can match like the physical, like imposing figure of Vince
- 4:44Vaughn by being a big dude, which is a big part of that
- 4:47movie, I guess, being that character.
- 4:49But right around it, if you're doing David Cross, like, hey,
- 4:53I've got like a fucking mustache and like.
- 4:55Yeah, he's at the He's sporting the full beard now.
- 4:58Yeah, and like, you know, he's just a fucking awesome comedic
- 5:03actor, so he's my pick. OK OK, All right, let's talk
- 5:07about Child's Play. Okie, Dokie.
- 5:11I'm waving my arms in the air. So you're just everyone?
- 5:15Knows all right, so Child's Play released November 9th, 1988.
- 5:19We watched it on our 4K Blu-ray. I'm sorry on our what?
- 5:23I'm not saying what you want me to say.
- 5:26If you want to watch it, stream it.
- 5:28As of June 22nd, you can watch it on Fubo, TVMGM Plus, Roku
- 5:34Channel, Tubi, and Pluto. And if you don't have any of
- 5:38those options, Amazon, Apple TV, YouTube, Fandango at Home, all
- 5:41options you can rent it on. Speaking of June 22nd, happy.
- 5:45Birthday, Morgan. Oh, yeah.
- 5:46Happy birthday, Morgan. OK Written by Don Mancini, John
- 5:51Lafia and Tom Holland Directed by Tom Holland Music by Joe
- 5:56Rinzetti Special effects makeup. Howard Berger or Berger.
- 6:01However that's supposed to be said, I think it's I.
- 6:03Think it's. Berger but.
- 6:05Yeah. He was the the supervisor of the
- 6:09Chucky construction crew is what it was called.
- 6:14Jim Schwalm, Kevin Yeager, who was the designer and executor of
- 6:21Chucky. James Cagle, who was the lead
- 6:24sculptor. And Kevin Yeager to listen to
- 6:28Howard Berger talk about it is a bit of a procrastinator.
- 6:33Yeah, so I didn't have enough time.
- 6:36Like we've been crunched on time this whole month and I wasn't
- 6:40able to do a deep dive on the special features.
- 6:41However, that 4K has a shit ton of stuff on it.
- 6:45There's there's literally like a whole hour long feature of just
- 6:50them, like a guy taking a camcorder and just like
- 6:53recording them working on shit the entire time.
- 6:55And they're just like just going about their day.
- 6:58It was really cool. And then you have like all these
- 6:59interviews and stuff. I want to watch it individually,
- 7:02but if you want any additional information, go there.
- 7:05Starring Katherine Hicks as Karen Barkley, Chris Sarandon as
- 7:10Mike Norris, Alex Vincent as Andy Barkley, Brad Dorff as
- 7:14Chucky Slash, Charles Weed Right, and Dina Man Off as
- 7:18Maggie Peterson. Maggie, I thought that that was
- 7:22going to be your intro. Did you say this so many times?
- 7:25No. I any time like the news is
- 7:27mentioned I always go. Yeah, Maggie Chucky wants to
- 7:30watch the 9:00. Yeah.
- 7:34No, I just, I felt like. Since it's the start of.
- 7:36The franchise I needed to. Do it properly.
- 7:40Yeah, I needed to do a proper a proper.
- 7:42Greeting I I get you. You're you're now.
- 7:45But they're going to start getting fucking weird from here
- 7:48on out, y'all? Yeah, of course.
- 7:51All right, time for our favorite game on the show.
- 7:53Budget or bug, Ted? All right, Jesse, what do you
- 7:57think? OK.
- 7:58Oh, and by the way, I just want to say we're starting a new
- 8:01franchise. I feel like I need to clarify
- 8:03this every few episodes just for people that don't know the
- 8:05segment Bug Ted is low budget movies.
- 8:09So anything below $10 million budget, anything above 10
- 8:13million? And that started from a
- 8:14fantastic type of something we read where they said they could
- 8:17tell it was low bug. Ted, We're not making fun of
- 8:20that person. It was just like, it just made
- 8:21us live. Yeah, it made us live.
- 8:23That's right. Hey, let's just make that low
- 8:24budget. Like we'll make that, we'll make
- 8:25it a segment. Yeah, yeah.
- 8:28OK. So OK, this is a little tricky
- 8:32cuz I watched that, that a bit of that feature with you.
- 8:36Yeah, Howard Berger, and I remember him talking about how
- 8:39he worked on a lot of low budget features.
- 8:43So this was like the first time that he's on a real set with a
- 8:46real budget and everything. But I also feel like it probably
- 8:52wasn't budget budget. It was like budget compared to
- 8:55what he was used to. So I'm going to say Bug Ted, but
- 8:59maybe hi Bug Ted. Oh, man, you nailed it.
- 9:02It is 9 million, Yeah. Technically right is the best.
- 9:07Kind of right. It's.
- 9:08True, $9 million is what they had for this thing.
- 9:12OK, opening Box Office 9. $1,000,000 in 1988 money.
- 9:15Yeah, that's really good. That's pretty good.
- 9:16That's a good budget for this and they need it with everything
- 9:18they have to do with Chucky. Especially they had to just keep
- 9:20burning dolls like. I didn't even get into any of
- 9:23that shit with my fun facts. I have so much shit of like the
- 9:26build up to making of the movie. That's all I got.
- 9:30But like, yeah, like they went hard into like they had to do
- 9:35like the like, puppeteering and he's basically an animatronic.
- 9:39Yeah. Like, it's insane.
- 9:42They're like, go watch the fucking special features.
- 9:43They go like in like deep, deep detail about that.
- 9:46If you're a nerd for stuff like that, absolutely.
- 9:48Or if you think you have the potential to be a nerd for stuff
- 9:50like that, yeah, watch the features.
- 9:53OK, opening box office, six and a half million dollars worldwide
- 9:57gross 44 million. All right, not too bad.
- 10:00I. Feel that?
- 10:01IMDb 6.7 out of 10. Hell yeah.
- 10:04Pretty good, not too bad. All right, so I don't have like
- 10:09a fun theme, but I have a fitting one.
- 10:11I feel this is like a time where the big slasher icons were still
- 10:16rolling and they all had films that came out this year, too.
- 10:20So Truckee was getting started. He's having to play catch up
- 10:23against these guys here. OK, so first one, yeah, he's,
- 10:27it's going to take a while for him, but he's a he's a crafty
- 10:30little one. All right, First movie is
- 10:33Halloween 4. Yes.
- 10:35Which released October 21st, 1988.
- 10:38OK, $5 million. Budget, yeah.
- 10:42OK. $17 million worldwide gross. Wow, that's insane.
- 10:47To me. And they kept making them.
- 10:50I I'm so glad they did. But I think it's.
- 10:53Insane. Again, time of VHS rentals that
- 10:58really helped. And also they were coming off of
- 11:01Season of the Witch, which yeah, made things weird for audience.
- 11:05True, true. Yeah, OK.
- 11:07IMDb 5.8 out of 10. So it's a pretty well received
- 11:11Koween movies. It's one of my favorites.
- 11:12High the rating was when we covered it 'cause that was so
- 11:15long. Ago, yeah.
- 11:16You know, I don't know. That is interesting, though.
- 11:20I, I have a clip of, like, one of the trailers from that
- 11:24episode where we were reading the reviews and it makes me
- 11:28laugh to this day. But I was reading the IMDb
- 11:31review and, like, it's just like, Michael really hates his
- 11:34family repeatedly. I was one of the best.
- 11:42Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:42I I still laugh to to this day. OK, Next up, Nightmare on Elm
- 11:48Street 4. OK, that one's a good one too.
- 11:51Yeah, that released August 19th, 1980 Eight $13 million budget,
- 11:57OK, worldwide gross 49 million. Is that the one where she's
- 12:01pregnant or the one right before she's pregnant?
- 12:03I know it's after Dream Warrior. Yeah, this is like the first one
- 12:07after Dream Warriors. This is the one where God, I
- 12:12can't really. It's like he, like, comes in
- 12:15there and he kills the Dream Warriors like, right away at the
- 12:17beginning and, like, screaming. Matt George does the effects on
- 12:20this one. There's that scene where the guy
- 12:22turns into a motorcycle. Yeah, the one you're thinking of
- 12:25is like 5 or 6. Six is the really weird one, I
- 12:29think. OK, yeah, I need to.
- 12:30That's one that I get those mixed up so much.
- 12:34Yeah, it's easy to do. And we haven't really, to be
- 12:36fair, watched that series as much as we have others.
- 12:39Yeah, that's one that we hit the original more than anything.
- 12:43Yeah, so did I already tell the rating?
- 12:475.6 out of 10? Yeah, it's pretty good.
- 12:50OK, Next up, Friday the 13th, Part 7.
- 12:55OK, I I'm a defender of the Sun too.
- 12:58Yeah, it's a good one. I liked it.
- 13:02I just you didn't used to always like it.
- 13:05Whoa. I think the thing that pissed me
- 13:06off is that they got heavily censored.
- 13:09That's true. And that, like, yeah, it just
- 13:12like to this day, like, it still frustrates me.
- 13:14But you know, like, it's still a fun movie to watch.
- 13:17It was a great like boss fight at the end though.
- 13:20Yeah, it's good. Like hitting him against
- 13:22somebody that is like kind of an equal actually.
- 13:24She kicks his ass pretty much. Right.
- 13:25Never mind. OK, That release May 13th, 1988,
- 13:29so actual Friday the 13th. Awesome.
- 13:33It's had a $2.8 million budget and $19 million worldwide gross.
- 13:40It's still enough to be profitable based on the budget.
- 13:44IMDb 5.2 so people don't hate it there either yeah I liked it.
- 13:50I know a lot of people do shit talk that one, and I think I
- 13:53probably did a little bit in our episode back then, but I've come
- 13:56around some good I'm. Quite.
- 13:58I'm quite pleased to hear that. OK, taglines.
- 14:03So I'm having to pull on the phone.
- 14:06Oh yeah. That's always a good sign.
- 14:09So the one that is on the poster, something's moved in
- 14:13with the Barclay family and so has terror.
- 14:17I don't like it. Yeah.
- 14:19It's it's a little clunky and it's gone.
- 14:21I see where they're trying to go in with it.
- 14:24It just needed a little reworking.
- 14:25Yeah, let's just see. Whatever.
- 14:29This one's pretty good. No one believes the truth or
- 14:32lives to tell it. Oh, that is a good one.
- 14:37Yeah, because I mean, that's the whole thing in the movie.
- 14:38Nobody believes him. And then when they finally find
- 14:40out, they die. Yeah.
- 14:42And I remember when we watched this and the second cop comes in
- 14:46and Sarandon's like, now do you believe me?
- 14:50He goes, yeah, but who's going to believe me?
- 14:52Yeah. And we're like, yeah, No, like
- 14:54you've got three adults telling you this.
- 14:56I'm just going to sit here and be like, OK, this is some sort
- 14:58of group psychosis. Yeah, it's like a mass illusion
- 15:00or some shit. Next, he wants you for a best
- 15:05friend or a new best friend. I do.
- 15:10Have a hard time like separating that because it's such an iconic
- 15:13tagline, but I think it's a really good one like.
- 15:16It is. It is.
- 15:17It is pretty solid and if you heard that, you'd think, oh, OK,
- 15:20cool, creepy doll. And like right away.
- 15:22The movie's like, no, not just. It's actually it's a serial.
- 15:25Yeah. The doll itself is not possessed
- 15:27in the way you're thinking. This one is Avhs release poster.
- 15:33It says Chucky did it. You know what?
- 15:36Yeah. It's like just Andy Chucky did
- 15:38it. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:40Chucky did it the first time. He says that he sounds so like
- 15:44excited. He's like, no, guys, I cracked.
- 15:46I figured it out. I know.
- 15:47Who the killer is Chucky did it and.
- 15:51They're like, oh God. This Bake them Away toys.
- 15:57OK, This one is probably my favorite right here.
- 16:02My Bake them away toys. You know what?
- 16:03That's front, right? The Simpsons.
- 16:07Chief Ligam. Yes.
- 16:08Yes. OK, This one's my favorite.
- 16:12When people have nightmares, they dream of Freddie.
- 16:15When Freddie has nightmares, he dreams of Chucky.
- 16:19I like that a lot. That is cool 'cause you got to
- 16:22remember Freddie was probably like the biggest, like he was
- 16:25such a big thing back then and. Also, like, he was the only,
- 16:31like talking serial killer of the time 'cause this is pre
- 16:34scream. So we finally get another funny
- 16:37guy who's like, gonna be a killer.
- 16:40And it's even because like instead of being in dreams, now
- 16:43he's in a little doll's body. Yeah, I I like that.
- 16:45It's really that. OK, you'll wish it was only make
- 16:49believe. Yeah, OK, Andy Barkley has a new
- 16:53playmate who's in no mood to play.
- 16:57That's not too bad. That's not too bad.
- 16:58I do think that Charles Lee Ray likes to play a little bit.
- 17:02He likes to play, he likes to play a.
- 17:03Little bit. Fuck you.
- 17:07Like you really tell us. It's like Maggie's and Maggie is
- 17:10a bitch and she deserved it. Like damn, dude.
- 17:13So yeah, that's a little kid all right.
- 17:16You know, he would be that like uncle at the Family Guy.
- 17:23He's like. Uncle Charlie.
- 17:24Fuck you. He just doesn't want to even
- 17:29talk to you. OK, This stall is killer.
- 17:32Yeah, whatever. Uninspired.
- 17:36Chucky is one mean son of a bitch.
- 17:40Accurate, but again, kind of uninspired.
- 17:42Yep, that's it. That's the last one.
- 17:44OK. So this is our last month of our
- 17:50last month, our last week of Pride month here at the show.
- 17:54And one of the things that I always like to do is give a
- 17:57little bit of interesting facts, either as they relate to the
- 18:01movie or as they relate to the queer community.
- 18:07So I've got a little bit of. Both for this.
- 18:09And the first one is actually going to be the Trevor Project
- 18:13itself because they've got, you know, what they're, what they're
- 18:17known for is they've got crisis counseling, you know, they're
- 18:21suicide prevention organization. And that's absolutely amazing,
- 18:24and it's absolutely needed, especially LGBTQ young people
- 18:28who are, you know, not only going through the throes of
- 18:32being young people. That fucking sucks.
- 18:34I think we've all been there and we remember that.
- 18:36But they're also dealing with all of the social implications
- 18:44that come with being queer, unfortunately.
- 18:49You know, it can be parental alienation, friendship
- 18:52alienation, job discrimination, lots of things like that.
- 18:56So they've got that crisis hotline, but they've also got a
- 19:01lot of interesting resources there on the website too.
- 19:04It doesn't just have to be a thing that just LGBTQ youth go
- 19:10to when they're in an acute crisis.
- 19:12Anybody can go there and they can look at the resources and
- 19:14they've got educational resources such as what does it
- 19:17mean to be gay and lesbian? How can I support the bisexual
- 19:20people in my life? What is it?
- 19:23What does it mean to be gender fluid?
- 19:26And I think that's really amazing.
- 19:28So it's not just an acute crisis situation.
- 19:32You can go to this organization and you can get information,
- 19:35learn a little bit more, become a better ally.
- 19:38Or if you don't know if you're an ally, if you don't know, if
- 19:41somebody has just come out to you and you're like, fuck, I
- 19:43don't know what this means. I don't know how I'm supposed to
- 19:44react. You can go to this website and
- 19:46you can get a little bit of information yourself.
- 19:48I'm just like imagining somebody like coming out to you, like, oh
- 19:51fuck. And you're like, get up here,
- 19:52pull up your phone real quick. Like how do I react to?
- 19:55This. Don't do that.
- 19:59Oh shit. No, but like, you know, somebody
- 20:04comes out to you and you're like, thank you for trusting me
- 20:06with this. And then you want to, because
- 20:07you're a good friend or family member or whatever it is, and
- 20:10you want to learn more about what this means for them.
- 20:12Those resources are there for you.
- 20:13So I think that's really cool. And then my other thing as it
- 20:17relates to this movie and why it's so fitting that we're
- 20:19starting this franchise this month.
- 20:21It was unintentional, but it's very appropriate.
- 20:23Yeah, it's perfect. I got some quotes from Don
- 20:28Mancini at a convention where they did a panel on queer
- 20:33horror, and Screen Rant wrote this up so I'm just going to
- 20:39read a couple of the quotes that they pulled for this article,
- 20:42and as always, I will link the article in our show notes.
- 20:45While the first film's premise seems to resolve around the
- 20:48consumerist culture and the difficulties of single
- 20:50parenthood, Don Mancini revealed that it's so much more than
- 20:52that. Underneath the messaging, it's
- 20:55about his personal struggles as a gay man, his family dynamic,
- 20:57and loneliness. As the franchise headed into the
- 21:002000s, it became more apparent that Chucky was destined to
- 21:03become an LGBTQ icon. His films are queer coded
- 21:05slasher movies unlike any other. Mancini stated that when he
- 21:10looks back on the film, the fact that he made Karen a single
- 21:13mother and left Andy without a father was his subconscious
- 21:16inclusion of his own experience as a gay man and the complex
- 21:18relationship he had with his own father.
- 21:21By not giving Andy a father figure.
- 21:22Mancini wrote in a narrative of loneliness and the desire to
- 21:25have someone to relate to when an individual is rejected by a
- 21:28family member for something like being gay.
- 21:30As the franchise progressed, Mancini embraced his identity as
- 21:33a gay man and included queer icons such as Jennifer Tilly and
- 21:36Bride of Chucky in leading roles.
- 21:38While the conscious effort of including queerness in the
- 21:40franchise did not exist until the release of Bread of Chucky,
- 21:43the subconscious inclusion of queer subtext in 1988 was
- 21:46integral and establishing its future.
- 21:48One of the later installment, Seed of Chucky brought LGBTQ
- 21:51issues more to the forefront by including a gender fluid
- 21:54character, Chucky and Tiffany's child, Glenn or Glenda.
- 21:59So, and we touched on this a little bit last week.
- 22:02We're talking about how excited we were to talk about this and
- 22:05just what queer representation looked like.
- 22:09And then in 1988 versus 2020, when we were talking about how
- 22:14Freaky could have such openly queer characters and such open
- 22:18queer coding. And we're going to get to see
- 22:22this evolution with this franchise in not in real time,
- 22:27but like over the next two months on the podcast.
- 22:30And I think that's really cool. And I think it's really
- 22:32important to include Don Mancini's, you know, own
- 22:38personal viewpoint as he was going through writing these
- 22:41movies. Yeah, that was actually one of
- 22:42the things I had in my fun facts was how he, like, made Andy like
- 22:47a fatherless child with a single mother because of that.
- 22:49Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:51So, All right. All right, so let's go on over
- 22:55into our fun facts, OK? I've got a lot of shit here.
- 23:00Fun shit I hope. Yeah, it's all fun shit.
- 23:02It's all pretty interesting. I didn't realize this movie had,
- 23:05like, a lot of shit going on, like, and it's build up.
- 23:08So Don Mancini first came up with the idea for the movie back
- 23:11in 1985. He was a student at UCLA.
- 23:15He was currently majoring in literature.
- 23:17He ended up finishing the first draft when he was studying film
- 23:21in 1986 at Columbia University. So at some point, he made a
- 23:24change. He's like, all right, I'm going
- 23:25to do movies instead. Well, if I'm remembering
- 23:28correctly, in 1985 we did had like Bruce Springsteen and
- 23:31Madonna. It was way before Nirvana.
- 23:33OK. You said that as like a very
- 23:35much like a intellectual thing to say, but then you're just
- 23:38quoting the song. Weird.
- 23:39Sadly. Yeah.
- 23:41OK, so the movie was inspired by consumerism.
- 23:46Also his dad as an advertising executive had a lot of influence
- 23:50with it. And then also the Cabbage Patch
- 23:53Kid riots of 1983, which I looked up, and apparently it was
- 23:57just this big craze that was going on.
- 24:00People wanted that doll, and they would attack each other for
- 24:05that doll in the stores. Yeah, it was intense,
- 24:08apparently, Like, it has its own Wikipedia page because people
- 24:10were in such a frenzy over this. It's insane.
- 24:13When the Cabbage Patch Kids themselves are also kind of like
- 24:16really intense because you adopt the Cabbage Patch Kid, it comes
- 24:19with its own, like, it's insane, man.
- 24:22Yeah, it's a lot. But I can see how that would
- 24:25pull into like, the whole because the good guy is they've
- 24:29got all of the shit that comes with them.
- 24:31And then you build this connection and he talks to you
- 24:34and. Yeah.
- 24:35And it's so like, I imagine like, just the overall look of
- 24:40the Cabbage Patch Kids probably had an impact on Chucky's
- 24:44appearance. But he was also very heavily
- 24:47inspired by Hasbro's Buddy dolls, which I'm showing you a
- 24:51picture of him right now. They look very much like them,
- 24:55right? Just enough to not be copyright
- 24:57infringement. Yeah, well, it's interesting.
- 25:00So they had his name originally as Buddy and they had to change
- 25:06it to Chucky in order to avoid being sued by Hasbro.
- 25:12So this movie was almost a full moon film.
- 25:16Charles Ban almost did it. He was interested in it.
- 25:20Look. No hate to full moon films at
- 25:23all, but I'm so glad it wasn't. Yeah, well, he took that
- 25:27interest and went with puppet masters, Yeah, which you know,
- 25:31but the reason he passed on this is because it was too expensive
- 25:34of a script to produce. Yeah, well, and that's exactly
- 25:37why I'm glad he passed. That Full moon is low budget by
- 25:41design, and that's great. It's like trauma is low budget
- 25:45by design. Yeah, but I feel like Full Moon
- 25:48is like even it's like the lowest of lowest while still
- 25:51being like movie like cinema quality.
- 25:54Yeah, yeah, yeah. And even then, that's kind of a
- 25:57question. Like sometimes it's just really
- 26:00cheap stuff. So the original script was
- 26:04titled Batteries Not Included. They had to change that title
- 26:08because there was a movie being made at the same time with that
- 26:11same name. It was a sci-fi movie and they
- 26:13actually beat them to it because it released in 1987.
- 26:16Wow. Second title that was going to
- 26:20be used was called Bloody Buddy. So yeah.
- 26:25OK, well this is the premise of the original script and it will
- 26:29make a little bit more sense. So it featured a doll filled
- 26:32with fake blood that would bleed if played with roughly all
- 26:36right. Oh my God.
- 26:38So that's crazy. That's like the dolls that like,
- 26:41you could actually like feed them and give them like juice
- 26:44and stuff and like I'm picturing that but with blood.
- 26:49It's really weird, man. Like it, like, I like it because
- 26:52it's really creepy. But yeah, like, it means the
- 26:54same thing. Like they like the ones that
- 26:55like, also pee and stuff like that.
- 26:57Yeah, yeah. It would come alive after Andy's
- 27:02blood mixed in with his fake blood.
- 27:06You know, and I'm also glad we didn't go that direction because
- 27:09I would have so many questions because kids are.
- 27:12Always hurting themselves, See. And that's the thing, it would.
- 27:14It would happen. Like if that had to happen,
- 27:18there would have to be something special with Andy or something
- 27:20special with that doll specifically.
- 27:22Yeah, very much like a chosen one, kind of.
- 27:23Yeah, the doll would have represented Andy's subconscious
- 27:27rage caused by his parents divorce and the single mother's
- 27:30frequent absence from home, and would have targeted his enemies.
- 27:34The third act would have had the doll trying to kill Andy and his
- 27:37mother so that it would not have to go to sleep while Andy was
- 27:40awake. Mancini's original script would
- 27:42have been a whodunit story which dealt with the effect of
- 27:45advertising and television on children and also was written to
- 27:50have the toy toy with the audience for a little bit
- 27:53longer, making it kind of ambiguous whether Andy or Chucky
- 27:56was the killer. You know what though?
- 27:58It's so funny, 'cause I was thinking about this boy watching
- 28:00the movie is that even though we see right away, we watch Charles
- 28:05Lee Ray get killed and transfer his body into the doll and
- 28:11there's. Still.
- 28:11Like some doubt as the movie's going on.
- 28:13You're like, I don't know man, you.
- 28:16Don't actually see it being successful.
- 28:18You just see like a big explosion and that's pretty much
- 28:21it. Like, OK, maybe he changed his
- 28:23soul with an explosion, I don't know.
- 28:25Yeah. OK, MGM didn't trust Mancini to
- 28:30do any of the rewrites on the movie, so they didn't really
- 28:32like like that. So like, OK, do a rewrite.
- 28:34You know, he was unproven at this point.
- 28:37So they brought in Tom Holland based off of a recommendation
- 28:39from Spielberg. Tom Holland did a rewrite, made
- 28:43the doll possessed by a serial killer.
- 28:45So he introduced that David Kirchner, who is the producer of
- 28:50all of the Chucky films to this day, I believe, actually name
- 28:56came up with the name Charles Sweet Ray.
- 28:57He based it on figures such as Charles Manson, Lee Harvey
- 29:03Oswald and James Earl Ray. Do you want me to explain who
- 29:06did what? So Charles Manson, notoriously
- 29:09of the Manson Family. Cult.
- 29:11Lee Harvey Oswald killed Kennedy.
- 29:15And then James Earl Ray shot Martin Luther King.
- 29:18Martin Luther King Junior. Yes, I was going to say Malcolm
- 29:21X. And I was like Nope, Nope, not
- 29:22not him. Yeah, Holland ended up quitting
- 29:27the movie. He was really frustrated at the
- 29:30time, trying to figure out how the soul of the killer would
- 29:33make it to the doll or Andy. And he went on to direct another
- 29:37movie. Wow.
- 29:39Yeah. So producers brought in Jean
- 29:41Lafia. He came in to do a complete or
- 29:45to finish the script that Tom Holland was doing the rewrite
- 29:48of. His idea was that the soul was
- 29:52going to transfer after a, an electric chair execution and the
- 29:57doll would have been on an assembly line at the same time.
- 30:00So something would have happened and, like, it would have
- 30:02transferred over there. So after all that was done, by
- 30:06the time they they were still working on this.
- 30:08Tom Holland finished that film. Oh, my God.
- 30:11Yeah. And then they rehired him back
- 30:14into the movie. So he did another complete
- 30:17rewrite of the script. He included the voodoo.
- 30:21He's this is where he brought in the voodoo element, which it's
- 30:25noted Kushner and Mancini don't did not like that introduction,
- 30:31like they didn't like including the the voodoo stuff.
- 30:35But Despite that, that was the script that they went forward
- 30:38with. Well, I'm going to be curious to
- 30:41see if he turned around on that since it's integral to.
- 30:47Everything of the. New franchise going.
- 30:50Forward and. Mancini has he never tried to
- 30:53wreck on it so. Never did.
- 30:55So I'm, I'm curious. Yeah, I'm curious.
- 30:58And the last little bit of information.
- 31:01Tom Holland claimed that the rewrite that he did was so
- 31:04extensive that he fought for sole writer credit on the film.
- 31:09Sophia and Mancini fought him on it though.
- 31:12They took it to the WGA and they ruled that all three of them
- 31:15have to share the credit. OK, so not some, you know, I
- 31:20made brief reference of this, but it it's kind of another
- 31:24Jason Friday the 13th situation. There's like rights issues.
- 31:31No matter how you spin it, he this is his baby.
- 31:34He he conceived it back when he was like a student.
- 31:36Yes, but also The thing is that it would it it probably wouldn't
- 31:40be what it is today without this like first movie being what it
- 31:47is. I'm going to say.
- 31:48That's kind of what led the whole franchise to where it is
- 31:51now. We have these origins here.
- 31:52And I think he, I think he needed it though.
- 31:54Yeah, really. Because like we heard just now
- 31:57what it was going to be. Yeah.
- 31:58I don't think that that would have been like as iconic as it
- 32:01is today. Yeah, and there's nothing wrong
- 32:03with that. Being a new writer.
- 32:05Yeah, you do need you get by with a little help from.
- 32:09Your friends, I was just. Thinking.
- 32:10That. Thank you.
- 32:12And just, it's just sad that they're not friends.
- 32:15I don't know. I mean maybe they are friends
- 32:16now, but it sounds like there was maybe a less friendly time.
- 32:21I think just Tom Holland was just like done with shit.
- 32:24God damn it, you all are bringing me back into this shit.
- 32:26Fine. Fuck it, I'll write the whole
- 32:28thing again myself. I'm the sole writer.
- 32:31This is my OK. OK, let's do our good.
- 32:35Bad bugleena sird. OK.
- 32:37OK, Jesse, kick it off. What you like about this?
- 32:41Oh my God. So this is one of those that I,
- 32:46I weirdly ended up watching several of these when I was
- 32:49younger, even though I wasn't super into horror until I was
- 32:53older, right? And it was never a movie that I
- 32:56watched all the way through because it scared the shit out
- 32:58of me. And part of it is because, and
- 33:00you've seen the photos, you have seen the proof.
- 33:02I had over 100 stuffed animals. I was very much, I was a stuffed
- 33:06animal kid. So this whole premise of a doll
- 33:09being able to come to life in a non happy Toy Story way,
- 33:13absolutely devastating. I think the only times that I
- 33:16would really be able to tolerate it being on was like on
- 33:19marathons around Halloween. But now as an adult and a horror
- 33:24fan, I fucking love it. And I can see the brilliance of
- 33:27it because you've got like this, it's supposed to be innocent.
- 33:30What is what is more wholesome than a mom like trying her
- 33:35hardest to get her kid this one thing that he just really,
- 33:39really loves? And he's a sweet kid.
- 33:41He is the sweetest fucking kid. Most adorable fucking child.
- 33:45So well-intentioned and, you know, she gets him this doll.
- 33:50And you never think that like a a gift you're getting for your
- 33:53child who's just pure goodness is going to end up causing all
- 33:58this wreckage in your life. And that's a scary like
- 34:01philosophically, but also like the movie itself is fucking
- 34:05terrifying because we see sweet little Andy Barkley and you're
- 34:08like, he couldn't hurt a family. And then even though, you know,
- 34:11kind of like I already said, like there's a little bit of
- 34:13like, well, maybe is this real? Is this not?
- 34:15Was that a red herring? You know what is going on.
- 34:19You do have like these kind of moments of doubt.
- 34:22And then that moment where she picks up the box and the
- 34:25batteries fall out. My stomach drops to the floor
- 34:30every time it's solid. And then like the Exorcist turn
- 34:33the head around, dropping under the couch, which I remember
- 34:37seeing an interview where they had to do that take like 50
- 34:40times. Yeah, for the doll.
- 34:41To perfect. Yeah.
- 34:43Like. It's just amazing and it's a
- 34:45real solid story that doesn't really lag at any point.
- 34:49And Alex Vincent fucking kills it.
- 34:53He is like, you watch this child and you're just like, I want to
- 34:57protect him. That's like that scene when he's
- 34:59in the he's. At the holding center.
- 35:01Yeah, he's at the holding center, like psychiatric.
- 35:05It's a good cops. Cops are there, yeah, but also
- 35:08psychiatric. Yeah, it's like juvenile
- 35:10psychiatric inmate type thing. And when he's crying that Chucky
- 35:17is going to kill him and that kids sobbing like.
- 35:20He like is actually crying. Man I was legit impressed with
- 35:24that. That was amazing.
- 35:25I just wanted to pick him up and hold him.
- 35:27Yeah, it's going. To be okay.
- 35:29So sad man. So yeah, and Catherine Hicks, I
- 35:32think is just fucking amazing the watching the cops
- 35:37progression of like, there's absolutely 'cause you're on the
- 35:40cops side, you're like, no, of course he's not going to believe
- 35:42any of this. And then when he witnesses it,
- 35:44he's like, OK, well here we are. What?
- 35:48The fuck do I do? Whoa, yeah, that's quite the
- 35:50realization too, with him trying to stab your junk through the
- 35:54the chair of the car. Yeah, man, it's God.
- 35:58It's so good. Yeah, so and like this, this
- 36:01franchise clearly has staying power because it's still going
- 36:04on today, so. It's really good.
- 36:07Yeah, just I can't say enough good things about it.
- 36:11I agree with him a lot, like everything that you just said
- 36:13there. I'll add I personally, I know a
- 36:17lot of people would vote Freddie, but I think Chucky is
- 36:20the most charismatic horror villain out there.
- 36:23I think I'd probably agree with you on that.
- 36:25He's just so funny, man Brad Dorff kills it with his delivery
- 36:30of every line in this movie. Man, it's so great.
- 36:33He does an amazing job. I love his voice.
- 36:35It's like iconic. Yes.
- 36:37I I can't hear him in other roles now and think like not
- 36:40think of Chucky. Yeah, they, I don't think
- 36:41there's been a single time that we've watched one of the Rob
- 36:43Zombie Halloween movies and not been like, oh, there's Charles.
- 36:47And it doesn't help that his daughter is Annie.
- 36:52Annie, like, God dammit, give her a different name.
- 36:58And like, they did a great job bringing the doll to life too,
- 37:02and not making it cheap. They had an amazing team of
- 37:05people. They had to like, build elevated
- 37:07stages for like all of the sets there so people could be
- 37:10underneath and like actually operate the doll.
- 37:12Like, the one that stands out the most to me is that scene
- 37:17after he burnt to a crisp and Andy's on the ground crawling
- 37:22backwards, and he's just, like, hovering over him with that
- 37:24knife. And he's just, like, walking
- 37:26down the hallway so slowly. Oh, man, It's so fucking well
- 37:30done. Yeah.
- 37:31This movie is just amazing. It does so many things perfect.
- 37:35OK, so why are some bad things? I'm going to say the bad thing.
- 37:40For me, it feels a little bit like they were trying to maybe
- 37:46push a romantic sense between Karen and Norris.
- 37:53Really, I didn't get that at all.
- 37:55I just I. Don't know how to explain it but
- 37:59the way she went from like referring him to him as a
- 38:02detective to referring to him as Chris in a way I mean.
- 38:06Mike. Mike, sorry, the actor's name is
- 38:09Chris. I don't know.
- 38:12It just. And the way he like felt, I
- 38:14don't know. And maybe it's not anything
- 38:17there, but it felt a little bit like she was going to go to the
- 38:19hospital with him, you know, like we know her home situation.
- 38:25We don't know his home situation.
- 38:26Maybe he's like, well, no, like it's fine.
- 38:27My wife won't meet me there. You know what I mean?
- 38:29Like we don't ever. Get like it just feels.
- 38:31I wanted to see maybe that's a deleted scene where she's like,
- 38:34I'll go to the hospital with you.
- 38:35He's like, oh, OK, let me tell my wife.
- 38:38Yeah, like it just, it just feels, and maybe that's because
- 38:42I'm so used to movies trying to push that kind of a thing that
- 38:45my brain fills in those gaps that way.
- 38:48And I fully admit that that might just be my own bias
- 38:51towards it. So I I don't know, it's just
- 38:55they're like relationship, whether it's quasi romantic
- 38:59friendship, whatever, feels a little bit rushed from like
- 39:04she's the mom defending her child against this detective
- 39:07that wants to walk him away to like, all right, I'm going to
- 39:11nurse you back to health. Like, yeah.
- 39:13It's. A very quick turn around because
- 39:14this all happens in the space of what, 4872 hours somewhere
- 39:19around there. Yeah, like two days maybe.
- 39:21I don't even know the time frame is kind of, it's a.
- 39:24Very short timeline in this movie and I don't think I ever
- 39:28truly appreciated how short it was until we were like watching
- 39:31and taking notes and I'm like holy shit.
- 39:32OK, so he died last night, He's in the doll today, which it's 24
- 39:39hours after he transferred his soul.
- 39:41And then the next day, Maggie's already dead and Andy is cutting
- 39:47class to ride the train across Chicago to.
- 39:51Eddie Caputo. Yeah, and then he gets picked up
- 39:54there and then the cops are like, OK, well, you're going to
- 39:56juvie and like. So yeah, this is all.
- 39:58It's less than five days. Yeah, for sure.
- 40:01Time one. Yeah.
- 40:03OK. What's your bad?
- 40:06I think that some of the rules that they establish are a tad
- 40:10goofy at times. Like you do things like, well,
- 40:15he has to tell. He has to go back to the body of
- 40:18the person he first told. Like, oh, so this is just like
- 40:22how you guys figured, Like, well, he's got to go to Andy.
- 40:25Like that's the only way he can make it like go for this little
- 40:27child. Otherwise, why would he go for a
- 40:30child? You know what I mean?
- 40:31Like you would want like an adult body.
- 40:33I'm largely uninterested with Andy.
- 40:35Like other than this is how I'm gonna get place to place without
- 40:38being suspicious to you. Okay, cool, now I'm gonna try
- 40:41and kill Andy and then, as we all know, it eventually just
- 40:44becomes vengeance. Yeah, it becomes vengeance,
- 40:46which I think I would have liked something like that a little bit
- 40:48better. But he, I guess he needs a
- 40:51moment. Well, I mean, that could be his
- 40:52motivation, but why would he blame the kid?
- 40:54You know, you like, yeah, you kind of get into this weird
- 40:57thing. You're well, he's got to have a
- 40:58target. And like, could it be the cop?
- 41:00I don't know. Who wants to watch the doll go
- 41:02after the cop? Why would the cop have a doll in
- 41:03the 1st place? Part of the phone is like having
- 41:06like the kid there. Like yeah, I have a reason.
- 41:10For it, and it adds some horror to it because it's like a child
- 41:12is being dragged into all of this yeah, it's a taboo.
- 41:16Like, we're not supposed to make kids the targets of the killers
- 41:20in the movie, The only kids if they're high schoolers,
- 41:24plausibly. But they're really, we know on
- 41:26screen that they're, you know, 25 years old.
- 41:28We've got actual 6 year old Alex Vincent here sobbing on set.
- 41:34So I mean, like, I understand why they had to do it, but like
- 41:38at the same time it's just it's a little goofy.
- 41:40Yeah, that's fair. OK, ugly.
- 41:47You know, voodoo is like an actual religion out there.
- 41:50So I think there's like some appropriation.
- 41:53I don't know enough to talk about it.
- 41:54Very. They don't abandoned it.
- 41:57Yes. They have like a whole voodoo
- 41:59for dummies. Yes, even.
- 42:00Later on, I know it's. Is it like an offensive thing?
- 42:06It feels very like appropriative, like ha ha ha.
- 42:11Wouldn't it be fun to do a little voodoo for this thing?
- 42:14Cuz I don't know how well researched it is.
- 42:17You know what I mean? And that's what I'm saying.
- 42:18Maybe they did a lot of research, maybe they do it
- 42:20respectfully. I don't really know at this
- 42:22point. It's something that I kinda
- 42:24wanna look into as we go forward to the franchise, though.
- 42:26I think it'd be fair. I mean, just because it's, I
- 42:30don't know. I don't know.
- 42:34We'll have to figure that. Out because it doesn't feel like
- 42:35it's trying to give a larger message about voodoo as a
- 42:39religion. You know what I mean like it
- 42:41just feels like oh hey, we're going to use this as a plot
- 42:43device. Very.
- 42:44I'm Stephanie Meyer with the the the.
- 42:51Well, The thing is like. The the tribe that Jacob's a
- 42:53part of in Twilight where that's like an actual tribe and then
- 42:57she takes a lot of their lore, makes shit up and.
- 43:01I think that's different than a religion though.
- 43:04People use religion for like motivation and things like that
- 43:07in cinema. What are you looking up?
- 43:09I'm trying to remember what the tribe in Twilight is called, the
- 43:12Quaalude tribe. And it's to the point where like
- 43:15the misinformation is so bad that they have like an actual
- 43:18museum in Washington that like actually gives like the tribe's
- 43:23history and stuff. And they've got like a whole
- 43:25website and everything. It's pretty cool that that that
- 43:29information is accessible, but it's kind of fucked up how it
- 43:33came to need to be accessible. Well, thank you for doing your
- 43:37service of roping Twilight into another discussion on this show.
- 43:41Just it's 90% of what I do on this show.
- 43:44Pretty much OK Oh my, my ugly. My ugly was people getting mad
- 43:51at poor Andy because all he's doing is like telling the truth
- 43:54the entire time and everybody's just like Andy.
- 43:56Fucking stop it. He's like.
- 43:58Melvin. Melvin.
- 44:01They seriously, it's just like they get so mad at him like all
- 44:03right, well, fucker, like you're the one that killed him, right?
- 44:07Like you know exactly what happened.
- 44:08Like no, Chucky did it all right, you fucking.
- 44:10Can I add an ugly too that one cop questioned Andy without an
- 44:16adult present. No Guardian was there with Andy.
- 44:21I get it because anytime that they tried to talk to Andy, the
- 44:25mom just came in and was like, don't you fucking talk to him?
- 44:27'Cause that's his. Fucking constitutional, right?
- 44:29But he's six years old. He hasn't gone through civics
- 44:31class yet. He doesn't know.
- 44:33I get it though, you got to figure out what he's the only
- 44:36other one there. Like you got to like, figure out
- 44:38what happened. I'm sorry, but I think we need
- 44:41to protect our constitutional rights.
- 44:42Oh, I'm sorry, I thought this was America.
- 44:46Absurd. OK, OK.
- 44:53I think first of all the like, whole shootout scene in the toy
- 44:58shop is absurd in and of itself. And Charles Lee Ray making a
- 45:02point to fuck up as much shit on his way out as possible like
- 45:05it's a toy shop. This hasn't done anything to you
- 45:07personally. That was one of my things too,
- 45:10sorry. Do you want to like go on the?
- 45:12Go ahead, go ahead, comment on it too.
- 45:14We have in the scene the very first instance of the Ade Duwe
- 45:19Dumbala transferring of souls to another body and it results in
- 45:24the giant explosion. We never get that again.
- 45:27I know in this. Series nobody explodes.
- 45:29Yeah. What the fuck?
- 45:32OK, what's what else you got? The the lightning bolt effects
- 45:37that were borrowed from Chopping Mall.
- 45:39Oh, I love it. Oh, I love it too, but it's very
- 45:42absurd. We've got such high class
- 45:46animatronics work in this movie, and then we've got Ms. Video.
- 45:51Like whatever animator bucket. And then finally the couple on
- 45:59the elevator and the woman, as she's getting out, she goes Ugly
- 46:04doll and Jackie goes. Fuck you.
- 46:07Yeah. Love it.
- 46:11Those are all great. Mine is Andy's breakfast in bed
- 46:18for his mom. I block that out that, well, I'm
- 46:22a person that I love my dairy free butter alternative.
- 46:27All right, which is? What it legally has to be gone?
- 46:29And don't worry you guys, I've got it prepared for you.
- 46:31If you guys want to make for yourself the morning breakfast
- 46:35in bed of Andy Barkley, I have the recipe for you right here.
- 46:39I. Would love to hear it minus the
- 46:42like ladle sized serving of butter that makes me feel
- 46:46physically I'll every time I see it.
- 46:48So first of all, you're going to want cereal.
- 46:50Cereal is the like the key of this thing here.
- 46:52So you just dump an entire box of that into a bowl.
- 46:55Should be tied to an existing franchise of some sort, like a
- 46:59cartoon doll, whatever. Yeah.
- 47:02If you're like Travis right now, they do have the Goku Reese's
- 47:05Puffs. This would be suitable.
- 47:07Or, you know, bad boys. Will Smith's back, baby.
- 47:11Will Smith is back, baby. We're not supporters, that's
- 47:14just we heard a guy say that when we went to go see a movie
- 47:18The other day. Actually, what we heard was will
- 47:20smooth. Is back, baby.
- 47:22Yeah, he was so into it. OK, so cereal, you got that?
- 47:25Next stop, you need 3 heaping scoops of sugar onto the cereal.
- 47:29Next you're going to need incinerated toast.
- 47:33You'll know it's good when it starts smoking.
- 47:36Giant spoon of butter. Just take a fucking spoon and
- 47:40just dig it in there and drop it right on top of the.
- 47:43Toast ideally come from the Country Crock tub and it should
- 47:47be roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of the tub.
- 47:51If you think you got 2 little, get more.
- 47:53Yeah, always. And finally they top it all off.
- 47:57How would you? Did you mention the milk pouring
- 48:01off the sides of the bowl of cereal?
- 48:03That's how you finish it right there because you have to take
- 48:06the tray and you have to walk as if you are a little 6 year old
- 48:09that still doesn't know how to walk properly.
- 48:11Yes. And run into your mom's bed.
- 48:13I. Don't think.
- 48:14It's so much that he doesn't know how to walk properly.
- 48:16It's that he doesn't know how to appropriately balance a meal
- 48:18tray, so it's a little wobbly. Fair.
- 48:21OK. He, he, he walks pretty solid.
- 48:23Rest of them, Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:24So there you go, everybody. If you guys want to do your very
- 48:27own Andy Barkley breakfast in bed, you now have the recipe.
- 48:31OK. All right, so let's rate this.
- 48:34Oh, 10 out of 10, no question. This movie is perfect and I love
- 48:37it. Yeah, yeah, it's got to get a 10
- 48:40for me too. This movie is amazing.
- 48:42I love this movie so much. And this right here.
- 48:46Like this series, I never really cared for it growing up, which
- 48:51is really weird. That's.
- 48:52A wild to me. It's a wild that like so it was
- 48:57like a year or two ago. I was like, I think I would
- 49:00really like you were like, hey, they're doing a sale on these
- 49:03movies. And no, they had just released.
- 49:05Or OK, yeah, yeah. And.
- 49:08We're like, yeah. Let's go ahead and watch through
- 49:10this. And it ignited something in me
- 49:15that I forgot existed. And you the whole time you're
- 49:19just like. Wow, these are a lot.
- 49:22Better than I remember. And I was like, there's so much
- 49:25fun. I just like, it's just like we
- 49:26became infected or something. I like, I fell in love with the
- 49:31series back last year. It was when we got all these and
- 49:35like I had seen some of the past few ones like Seed of Chucky.
- 49:39It's the weirdest thing. Chucky.
- 49:41I've never found him scary. There's never been a thing.
- 49:44Even as a child, like I, he was just never like a scary thing to
- 49:47me. Like I wasn't just not really
- 49:49interested in him. One of my best friends growing
- 49:51up was terrified of him, and we got him to actually not be
- 49:55afraid of Chucky by showing him Seed of Chucky.
- 49:58Once he watched that movie, he's like, oh, it's so scary.
- 50:01Yeah, we were able to do that, but like, I just never cared for
- 50:04it. But now, like, I'm watching them
- 50:06all and I fucking love every single one of them.
- 50:08It's an amazing series. Yes, yes.
- 50:11OK, so are we ready to kick this thing off?
- 50:14We are ready to boogie, Boogie. All right.
- 50:19We start off. Detective Mike Norris has found
- 50:21the Lakeshore Strangler. He's at Wabash and Van Buren.
- 50:25We get a little Bang Bang. We start this thing off of the
- 50:28whole fucking chase scene. Which is awesome it.
- 50:31Starts off like, like right off the bat we get Charles, we rave
- 50:35in the flesh. Yeah, so he, you know, there's a
- 50:41little bit of a shootout. He is hitting the leg and he's
- 50:43trying to run to his getaway van.
- 50:45Eddie Caputo, not a bro. He just drives off and Charles E
- 50:50Ray goes. His scream is in the scene man.
- 50:54He fucking sells it. It's like, don't leave.
- 50:57Yeah, he breaks into a toy store and he's kind of like sneaking
- 51:04her at, well, not really sneaking, but he's trying to
- 51:07evade Norris and it's not working.
- 51:10And it ends up with they're they're shooting at each other,
- 51:13but Norris ends up shooting him in the chest and he goes die,
- 51:19gotta find something. And he swears vengeance with his
- 51:24dying breath. He swears vengeance against Mike
- 51:27Norris and Eddie Caputo. What is it that he says?
- 51:31What's the exact line? Say it for me.
- 51:33I don't know. Oh, it's just I just wrote
- 51:39swears Vengeance. I did too.
- 51:40Oh, oh, actually I did write it down.
- 51:43No matter what. Yeah, as he's doing this, he
- 51:49stumbles into like a shit, like a fucking wall of good guy
- 51:53dolls. Like an insane this.
- 51:56I feel like this has to be close to Christmas because of the fact
- 52:00that this is a new release from a well known company.
- 52:03It's winter also. Yes.
- 52:05So I feel like it's got to be close to that, especially with
- 52:08the size of that display. And like, you got to know, like,
- 52:11he probably didn't choose this by choice, but he's like dying
- 52:14and he like falls on these. So it's like, ah fuck no.
- 52:18One is as desperate as a dying man, you know?
- 52:20I got to get in this doll, man, this fucking little doll.
- 52:22So he does the chance, Dan. Doll is it?
- 52:26And it just explodes the store. MM Norris goes flying through
- 52:30the like window. Or, as I wrote in my notes,
- 52:33Thunderbolts of Lightning. Very, very frightening.
- 52:37God, they. Leave.
- 52:41So we cut to a good guy cartoon. But poor little Andy, he's not
- 52:45hot. His birthday is starting off on
- 52:48a bad note because he's already seen this one dude.
- 52:51This Kidman, I love how he is able to just take care of
- 52:55himself he's got did he put the happy birthday better of himself
- 52:58I. Feel like he probably did.
- 53:00So high up, there's no way. Actually, no, I could see Karen
- 53:04hanging that up before she goes to bed.
- 53:05Sure. Yeah, I'm sure.
- 53:06Yeah. But like, it just almost feels
- 53:08like he's like, it's my birthday, I've got to put my
- 53:10party together. So he's like making the
- 53:13breakfast of champions for his mom here.
- 53:15And I like that he's making mom breakfast in bed on his.
- 53:18Birthday. It is really sweet.
- 53:20Sweet little boy. We're establishing that this is
- 53:22a sweet kid. Right.
- 53:23Yeah, He's like. He will make you breakfast on
- 53:26his birthday. Yes, And as he's making it, the
- 53:28reason the toast gets burned is because he gets distracted by a
- 53:30commercial showing that like, oh, now you can't just watch the
- 53:34Good Guy doll on TV, but you can have your very own Good Guy doll
- 53:37best friend. And we see is about two 2 1/2
- 53:41feet tall, comes in a nice large box.
- 53:43And he looks over by the window. There's a box roughly that size
- 53:47ramped up. And he's like, all right, we
- 53:49gotta skedaddle and wake mom up and.
- 53:51Get real excited. I don't know what's happening in
- 53:53that. So he goes in there and wakes
- 53:55her up and she does. A really good job of
- 53:59sidestepping eating that food. She does.
- 54:02It's nasty, man. Like OJ is spilled into the bowl
- 54:05of like cereal and like butter and toast.
- 54:09Food with the milk has probably had some very bad chemical
- 54:12reactions. It's probably a nasty mess.
- 54:15It's going to be a nightmare to clean up.
- 54:16It's just like, this looks so good, but I think we're just
- 54:20going to have to go out and open your presents.
- 54:22Yeah, which is a great way to get a kid, yeah.
- 54:25Absolutely. So of course he goes for the
- 54:27giant package, opens it up, what did you know, it is quotes.
- 54:34I just wrote in my notes, Mom. What the fuck?
- 54:39I know. And she was so excited.
- 54:40She was like, this is the one, this is the big one.
- 54:42You're going to love this shit. It's clothes, Andy pants.
- 54:45She even tried to make him open that one last like it was going
- 54:48to be the big finisher. Yeah, I know.
- 54:50Like, man. And then he's so clearly
- 54:52disappointed. She's like, oh, you wanted toys,
- 54:54OK. And then she gives him another
- 54:55one. And this time this good guy.
- 54:57Tool accessories. Accessories for a doll.
- 55:00He doesn't. Have Yeah, I know man.
- 55:02Like we've all been there. We've all gotten that present.
- 55:06It's like this is a thing for the other thing.
- 55:08So we love telling the story of my family and everybody's heard
- 55:12it, so I don't feel bad about sharing it on the show. 1
- 55:14Christmas when my little sister was, I wanna say like 12 or 13,
- 55:19she'd been begging for a cell phone for a while.
- 55:21Hadn't, you know, didn't have one at that point.
- 55:24And Tom gives her his gift and he's like, sorry, money's been
- 55:30really tight. I just didn't have a lot for you
- 55:33as a can of Pringles. And she was like.
- 55:35And she did the very. Andy disappointed but tried to
- 55:38play it off like a champ and she was like.
- 55:40Well, thank you, I. Appreciate the Pringles.
- 55:42And she starts to set it aside and he's like, well, don't you
- 55:44wanna eat some? And she's like, I guess.
- 55:47And so she opens it up and she picks up the Pringle.
- 55:50And underneath the Pringle was like a cell phone.
- 55:55And then I think she like deafened every dog in a 2 mile
- 55:58radius with her scream. But.
- 56:00That's awesome. Very this moment, but with the
- 56:03actual. But actually, good.
- 56:05That's how you're supposed to do it.
- 56:06Yeah. Take notes.
- 56:09Karen. OK, so yeah, he's like super
- 56:14disappointed. She's kind of bummed that he's
- 56:16disappointed. Yeah, she's like, I just didn't
- 56:18know about it in time to save up for it.
- 56:20This doll was $100. That's a lot in 1988 money for a
- 56:23fucking doll. Yeah.
- 56:24For sure man. Cut to her work.
- 56:27Her best friend Maggie is there and she has found a peddler in
- 56:31the alley that is selling it for cheap.
- 56:34Yes. So they go out there, they go
- 56:36investigate it. He is selling it for he is
- 56:38asking 50. They haggle it down to 30.
- 56:40Yes, yeah, Actually, Maggie wanted to haggle it down more
- 56:43because she was like, you don't even know that this is like a
- 56:45legit Don. She's like, you don't understand
- 56:47how bad Andy wants this. And I'm like, don't say this in
- 56:49front of the guy you're trying to buy it.
- 56:50From yeah, so like they insult him and they're like whatever
- 56:55he's like he he does like the crotch thing, but he like he
- 57:00doesn't do the crotch grab. He just like does like an air
- 57:02thrust. It's like, yeah, like suck this.
- 57:03And it's like poor form, man. That's not good.
- 57:07Yeah, So when they get back in there, the boss is very unamused
- 57:12that she left her station. And he's like, by the way,
- 57:15you're the person who's supposed to be here at 7:00 called in, so
- 57:18you're going to need to cover for her.
- 57:20And she's like, it's my son's birthday.
- 57:22And Maggie offers to cover for her, but he's like, your
- 57:25department is shoes, this is jewelry.
- 57:28I'm like, I think she could probably figure out how to ring
- 57:30it up. I will.
- 57:31I like that Maggie is like talk soon, like trying to like snap
- 57:35on this shit is like chill out Walter.
- 57:38Like get over yourself. Like she knows that he needs
- 57:42them there just as much as they need their jobs like.
- 57:45It's the holiday season. I think you're right because
- 57:47like it's, it seems to be very busy there.
- 57:49Dude, Maggie, if she wasn't about to be tragically killed in
- 57:53like 10 minutes, like she could be the president of a union by
- 57:56now, you know? Yeah.
- 57:57I think she I would, I would like to have her represent me
- 58:01and whatever thing so she offers to cover or watch Andy for her
- 58:07while she works for shift. Yeah, so in the two hour break,
- 58:10so she Karen still gets to leave at 5.
- 58:13She just has to be back by 7. So in that two hours she gets
- 58:15home and Andy sees her walk in with a big box and he goes,
- 58:19what's that? She goes, well, it's not
- 58:21groceries. And I'm like, why'd you go?
- 58:23Why don't you just say pants again like.
- 58:25Why? Why are you?
- 58:26Teasing this poor. Child.
- 58:29Deep down she hates him. She's like fuck you for that
- 58:32breakfast kid. Groceries.
- 58:34Are you going to make me some more disgusting fucking
- 58:36breakfast with these? Here do.
- 58:37You know how expensive a tub of butter is?
- 58:41Yeah, you dumped it all, covered it in OJ.
- 58:49So he opens it up and it's a good guy though.
- 58:53So Maggie is just watching Andy and Chucky play and the news is
- 58:59on in the background and in the background, which this is
- 59:01something that I didn't mention before because we got so
- 59:03distracted with the present and the the present fuckery and
- 59:06everything. But while they were unwrapping
- 59:09the presents, they were announcing the news of Charles
- 59:12Lee Ray's death on the news in the background.
- 59:15So Chucky's head turns when he hears the news come on.
- 59:19And then? I like that because they get
- 59:21like they've established, like it's a doll that moves on.
- 59:23So it's like, did he do that or did like the doll do?
- 59:26That yes. And we've watched so many like
- 59:28creepy YouTube videos where it's dolls like that and it's just
- 59:31like just enough that you're like, well.
- 59:36I'm watching that doll. It's like Talia where she like
- 59:38looks at our Chucky doll over. Here she's like I'm.
- 59:40Watching not trust this Chucky doll at all so yeah, Maggie
- 59:45tells Andy that him and Chucky need to go to bed and he goes
- 59:48buddy, I'm. Maggie Chucky wants to watch the
- 59:519. O'clock news.
- 59:53He doors in such a pathetic way. It's so good.
- 59:57Not yeah. And this is Aunt Maggie is, and
- 1:00:00again, she could be the president of the union.
- 1:00:01I'm soft. I would have.
- 1:00:04Okay, okay. It's pretty great that you're a
- 1:00:06six year old kid and you want to stay up on current events.
- 1:00:10You probably need a civics lesson now because I feel like
- 1:00:12you're gonna need it sometime in the future.
- 1:00:16So she's cleaning up the kitchen while she thinks Andy's getting
- 1:00:20ready for your bed. And when she turns around, she
- 1:00:21sees Chucky in the living room, sitting on the armchair,
- 1:00:25watching the news that saying Eddie Caputo escaped during a
- 1:00:28prison bus transfer on his way to court.
- 1:00:32I've never picked it up watching them.
- 1:00:34That was yeah, I've always just been like watching Chucky.
- 1:00:36Yeah, like I just, you know, in the past, I think I just heard
- 1:00:39like vague news about Eddie Caputo.
- 1:00:41I'm like, OK, so it's how many new?
- 1:00:42But like I was taken diligently. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:00:45Yeah. So Aunt Maggie brings it all
- 1:00:48back to the bedroom and she's like, oh, you think you're
- 1:00:50funny? Mr. Well, first she walks into
- 1:00:53him in the bathroom and she's like, what do you think you're
- 1:00:55doing? He goes.
- 1:00:55Brushing my teeth. And he looks like a rabid dog.
- 1:00:58He is full of Fujio at this point because he brushes his
- 1:01:02teeth the same way he makes breakfast.
- 1:01:04Again though, just starting off here, he's like, I didn't
- 1:01:06fucking do anything and everyone was like, Andy, you fucking
- 1:01:08motherfucker. Like.
- 1:01:10Do you think I had time to froth this toothpaste and move tucky?
- 1:01:14Into. The living room silently.
- 1:01:17And be into the news all at the same time in this climate.
- 1:01:21In this economy. So she tucks them in and when
- 1:01:29she turns off the line, closes the door and they turn around
- 1:01:32and said, I told you she wouldn't be OK with you watching
- 1:01:36the news. I know.
- 1:01:38Yeah. So she's in there.
- 1:01:40She's just kind of chilling. And then she starts to hear some
- 1:01:43footsteps or some shit going on. We get Chucky vision here.
- 1:01:46He's wandering through the halls.
- 1:01:47Yes, she has gone through and she has closed all the windows
- 1:01:51because it's chilly because it's Chicago in the winter.
- 1:01:53Yeah. So she is looking around and she
- 1:02:00sees some flower on the floor, which is a real bummer because
- 1:02:02she just cleaned the kitchen. Up.
- 1:02:06Yeah, so she is starting to clean up and she gets a call and
- 1:02:10it's from Karen. And I like the way that, like,
- 1:02:12she's acting a little weird and Karen's like, what's up?
- 1:02:14And she goes nothing. It's just, you know, when you're
- 1:02:17alone in an apartment at night and it's creepy.
- 1:02:20And Karen's like, yeah, that's true.
- 1:02:22Yeah. Everybody's been there.
- 1:02:24Yeah, It's a relatable experience.
- 1:02:26So they hang up and she's looking around and then she
- 1:02:30starts cleaning up a little bit more and she thinks that maybe a
- 1:02:34plan or something got moved and she was like, it's Andy Band
- 1:02:37Trigger Andy, and she's looking for him.
- 1:02:42And then she kind of realizes that she's being silly.
- 1:02:45And just as she comes to this realization, smack to the head
- 1:02:50with a hammer and she falls backwards through a window that
- 1:02:54seems like it's probably not safe to have around a six year
- 1:02:56old child. It busts very easily, yes.
- 1:02:59It did not take a while for that thing to burst.
- 1:03:02And she falls right onto a truck.
- 1:03:04Yeah, Like it would have been enough to see her to, like, get
- 1:03:06the hammer and fall through the window.
- 1:03:08But they're like, no, let's show her.
- 1:03:09Hit the truck too like. Imagine for a second, though,
- 1:03:12that you're the owner of that truck and you're so stoked
- 1:03:15because you finally got the good parking for once that.
- 1:03:19Is a. Seinfeld episode.
- 1:03:20Oh my God. George actually got the good spy
- 1:03:24and a guy jumped off of a building and landed on his car.
- 1:03:28Yeah, we should watch that episode.
- 1:03:30So you know exactly how you can't imagine it.
- 1:03:36So Karen comes home and she sees all the cops so she gets worried
- 1:03:39immediately and. Here.
- 1:03:41Here's the thing though, I understand her immediate her
- 1:03:44immediate hostility to the cops because her apartments a crime
- 1:03:48scene and nobody has called her her child and best render in
- 1:03:53there. You know what I wouldn't, I
- 1:03:56wouldn't doubt it that the cops called and Walter was like, no.
- 1:04:01She cannot. She's working.
- 1:04:02We do not have coverage. You're in the cop department.
- 1:04:05This is shoes. No Karen's and jewelry.
- 1:04:09Oh, jewelry. If there were shoes that needed
- 1:04:11coverage, it would be Maggie. We wouldn't have this issue.
- 1:04:14She's dead. Yeah, now he's got a real
- 1:04:18problem that he's going to start cross training some fuckers now,
- 1:04:20isn't he? No, just making everybody else's
- 1:04:24problem that he's in a bad mood. Yeah, So yeah, she's like super
- 1:04:29hostile to the cops. She's like, get the fuck out of
- 1:04:31here. My kid experienced something
- 1:04:32very tragic and I want to be here with him and the cop is
- 1:04:35like fair. So.
- 1:04:36Everybody. But first, he's like, I do want
- 1:04:39to point out that it's very interesting that we've got these
- 1:04:42tiny footprints and this flower on this counter.
- 1:04:45That's weird, right? And she's like, what the fuck
- 1:04:49are you implying? Yeah, like, first of all, my
- 1:04:52child doesn't run across the top of the counters.
- 1:04:55He goes no, no, I already checked your kids shoes.
- 1:04:57How long have you been here, Michael?
- 1:05:02Michael. Michael And so Andy comes out
- 1:05:07and he's doing his adorable little thing and yeah, Maggie.
- 1:05:11OK, Yeah. No, and then the cop looks like
- 1:05:16he goes. That's all in your feet.
- 1:05:17Kid and goes. My good guy pajama house shoes.
- 1:05:21Whatever the fuck they're called, I don't.
- 1:05:22There doesn't need to be sneakers attached to pajamas.
- 1:05:24That just seems like a nightmare for parents.
- 1:05:26It's like Footsie pajamas. Yeah, except they're like actual
- 1:05:29like. Hard rubber soles.
- 1:05:30Yeah, I they needed it for this scene.
- 1:05:33Yeah, we need to be able to have the imprint of the good guy.
- 1:05:36Yeah, and then this detective, he's like playing bad cop to a
- 1:05:40six year old, which I just think is like small pee pee energy if
- 1:05:43there ever is any, you know what I mean?
- 1:05:45And he's like, oh, look at these shapes on the shoe.
- 1:05:48There's. A.
- 1:05:49Hammer and a screwdriver, and that's when Karen's like, get
- 1:05:53the fuck out of me. Now he also says a gun in in my
- 1:05:56head, I'm like a fucking gun. No, because the Good Guy dolls
- 1:05:59do have guns. Why the fuck do they have guns?
- 1:06:04Do I need to point out how many times you've gotten into
- 1:06:07shooting matches with our nephews and their various Nerf
- 1:06:10guns? But that doesn't come with like
- 1:06:12a little toy that's like, hey, I'm a good guy.
- 1:06:15Is the toy. A gun, yes, no different types
- 1:06:19of toys. Barbie doesn't have a gun.
- 1:06:22You know what I'm saying, but she don't unless somebody's
- 1:06:30going to be like on actually misses.
- 1:06:35I'm trying to think of some Barbie sling that would work for
- 1:06:39GAT girl. Yeah, girl, Barbie clock.
- 1:06:45Second Amendment Barbie. Oh man, don't give them ideas.
- 1:06:54No, I don't think the Barbie company would do that.
- 1:06:57I do think that like some Uber conservative person be like, we
- 1:07:01do need that, but they're not listening to our show.
- 1:07:03They piece the fuck out as soon as you're like pride month.
- 1:07:06Oh. Yeah, so Chucky.
- 1:07:09'S shoes have flower on them yeah so Andy being the bright
- 1:07:14and wanting to help child that he is, runs out to tell his mom
- 1:07:18that. Detective, he goes look Chucky.
- 1:07:21'S shoes. Have flowers on them.
- 1:07:23Flowers. Flowers.
- 1:07:26Handguns again. She's like, fucking stop it,
- 1:07:29Andy. Like Andy's like.
- 1:07:31She's like, no one believes you. Those are the exact words that.
- 1:07:34She's yeah, she's like stop saying the shit.
- 1:07:36And then so she gets the, she gets everybody at the house and
- 1:07:39she comes in, she's like, Andy, we need to really talk about
- 1:07:43what happened. And I need you to understand
- 1:07:46that nobody believes it's the doll.
- 1:07:47And he goes. Are you just?
- 1:07:49Upset at me. Because of what happened to Aunt
- 1:07:52Maggie. Why?
- 1:07:56Are you doing? This to our hearts.
- 1:07:58It's so sad. Maybe.
- 1:08:00Andy is the real villain because he is breaking my heart.
- 1:08:05Maybe you're the killer because that got.
- 1:08:08Deep element. He he he.
- 1:08:10Maybe he would grow up to be a Dewey.
- 1:08:13OK, so she asked Andy what Chucky has been saying to him
- 1:08:19and she said that he is really Charles E Ray and was sent from
- 1:08:23heaven by Daddy to play with him and that Aunt Maggie was a bitch
- 1:08:27and got what she deserved. Which is what led to the whole,
- 1:08:30like, yelling and him going, Are you just upset because yeah,
- 1:08:33Aunt Maggie is a flatter than a pancake.
- 1:08:37So she leaves, but she like stays outside the door and you
- 1:08:41see Chucky look over there and clock that she's still
- 1:08:44eavesdropping. So he like does the like good
- 1:08:47guy but was like I like to be hugged or whatever.
- 1:08:49I like to be hugged. Yeah.
- 1:08:51And then like he just like gets a hug for me and they and they
- 1:08:53go to bed. The next day she drops Andy off
- 1:08:55at school, and because it's 1988 and there aren't intense
- 1:08:58security protocols, she doesn't have to sign him in or anything.
- 1:09:01So she drops him closest to the front door and walks away.
- 1:09:06Nobody. Questions him.
- 1:09:07Just turning right around and walking out the door.
- 1:09:10Nobody stops the kid. Listen, all of these adults on
- 1:09:14this train see this child in this doll.
- 1:09:18They don't do anything. I get minding your own business,
- 1:09:22but if I baby no. If I have learned anything from
- 1:09:25seeing videos of like metropolitan areas, subways,
- 1:09:30nobody gives a fuck and it's like wild wild western area.
- 1:09:33Like it's insane shit always, just from my experience of
- 1:09:38seeing shit and we've been on some and it's usually the case.
- 1:09:41Yeah, yeah. No, that is fair.
- 1:09:43Like when you're on a train like that, you just kind of want to.
- 1:09:46Just don't be. There, engage as little as
- 1:09:50possible with anyone around you. Which is what happens.
- 1:09:52You're just there. And he's like, even, like
- 1:09:53whispering the Chucky on the train right there.
- 1:09:55And you can tell the trains going to a bad part of town.
- 1:09:58Yeah. And he's starting to, like, walk
- 1:10:01around getting off the train. And he's like, at this, like,
- 1:10:04abandoned, like, he's like walking through, like where
- 1:10:07homeless people are. And he is like getting to like
- 1:10:10run down homes and shit. And he makes it to a house and
- 1:10:14then there's like this random rocking chair out there and he
- 1:10:16sits Chucky down there. He's like, I got to go tinkle.
- 1:10:18So he goes like, walk away tinkle.
- 1:10:21I know. So he goes to go do that.
- 1:10:23And we get Chucky vision. He runs into the house and we
- 1:10:27see that this is where Eddie Caputo is staying.
- 1:10:31Yeah, so we see Eddie Caputo is on high alert because, you know,
- 1:10:35he's a one night criminal. Yeah, and he's like sleeping
- 1:10:39with a gun. As soon as he hears a vague
- 1:10:41sound, he's like up and he's. He's blasting, Yeah.
- 1:10:44He's just shooting all throughout this house.
- 1:10:46It's like no questions asked. And the reason why I think
- 1:10:49Charles Lee Ray was probably the brains of the operation.
- 1:10:52Yeah, definitely, yeah. Cuz downstairs what he's done is
- 1:10:56turn out the pilot light in the stove.
- 1:10:58I don't know if that's the right term, but yeah.
- 1:11:01And just keep the gas on. So when he is down in the
- 1:11:05kitchen, he makes enough sound that Eddie comes in and
- 1:11:07immediately shoots him. He does.
- 1:11:10Big explosion. We get a lot of explosions in
- 1:11:12this movie, kind of. Surprising, yeah, on a $9
- 1:11:14million budget, that's. Pretty, yeah.
- 1:11:16Exploited up, baby. I love it so, Karen.
- 1:11:20Is called to the station by Norris.
- 1:11:22Yeah, and Andy is talking to the other detective.
- 1:11:25Do you think he read on his Miranda rights?
- 1:11:28You have the right to be an attorney.
- 1:11:30That's. True, you do have the right.
- 1:11:33You do have the right so she she tells Andy nobody believes him
- 1:11:40about the doll and she must tell the truth or he's going to be
- 1:11:43taken away. And you can see poor little Andy
- 1:11:47understands the gravity of what she like.
- 1:11:50He gets it. But also he doesn't lie so he
- 1:11:55doesn't have a cover up for this and Chucky did not give him an
- 1:11:59alibi. He, he takes the shit that
- 1:12:02people have been giving him and he like directs.
- 1:12:04He like, outputs it towards Chucky.
- 1:12:06He's like, all right, fucking talk Chucky.
- 1:12:08Nobody's believe me. He talks.
- 1:12:10What are you fucking stupid? Snack is a dog.
- 1:12:12Nobody believes you. Shut the fuck up.
- 1:12:15You can't watch the 9:00 news. Brush your teeth.
- 1:12:18And then the two way mirror comes up and the doctor's like,
- 1:12:23I've seen quite enough. We're admitting him.
- 1:12:25Yeah, that's good. It's not well.
- 1:12:28So Karen takes Chucky home and this is this is a very sad kind
- 1:12:33of moment 'cause you can tell she's just completely defeated
- 1:12:37and she's about to be alone in this apartment.
- 1:12:39And also, this is a nice fucking apartment in Chicago.
- 1:12:43How is she affording this on her department store salary?
- 1:12:47Maybe she's got like survivor benefits from her husband.
- 1:12:50Could be, could be rent controlled you never.
- 1:12:52Know. Oh, yeah.
- 1:12:53Yeah. Anyway, she's, you know, just
- 1:12:56kind of wandering around as you do in this situation.
- 1:12:59And she sees the box that Chucky's in, 'cause I cannot
- 1:13:02emphasize enough that it has been less than 24 hours since
- 1:13:06this doll came into their lives. Yeah.
- 1:13:09Alright, no, yes, less than 24 hours.
- 1:13:11Yeah, sorry. I was thinking about the fact
- 1:13:13that Andy got tucked in twice, but that was twice in the same.
- 1:13:15Night. And so she picks up the box and
- 1:13:18she's kind of looking at it and then the batteries fall out and
- 1:13:24she has like this panic moments. This is batteries included.
- 1:13:27And she's, they don't say this out loud, but I think the
- 1:13:32logical thing is that she's going to go check because maybe
- 1:13:36extra batteries, yeah, maybe even though the toys don't come
- 1:13:40with that or. Maybe Aunt Maggie didn't know
- 1:13:43that it came with batteries and she just grabs some batteries
- 1:13:45from a drawer or something. You don't know.
- 1:13:47So she goes over there and picks it up and she checks the
- 1:13:50batteries and there are no batteries.
- 1:13:53And then his head turns around and goes, hi, I'm Chucky, wanna
- 1:13:58play? It's a little bit more.
- 1:13:59Aggressive. The delivery is.
- 1:14:01I like it. Yeah.
- 1:14:02So she drops it, rolls underneath the couch.
- 1:14:04Tricky place to cool here, Decides to not like boy was
- 1:14:06covered fully. Yeah, and then she's like
- 1:14:09shaking him and she's like, talk, Danny, talk.
- 1:14:11And then she turns on the fireplace.
- 1:14:12She's like, if you don't talk, I'm throwing you in the fire.
- 1:14:15And he's like, you bitch, you thought you fucking piece of
- 1:14:18shit. I love it.
- 1:14:20It's like unleashes on her. I love, I think part of what
- 1:14:25necessitates this franchise being R rated, especially this
- 1:14:28first one, is because you're not supposed to see a little doll
- 1:14:31like that and use the language. Yeah, I know.
- 1:14:33It's, it's so, I mean, I love it.
- 1:14:35It's so great. I love how he's just such an
- 1:14:38outwardly shitty person. So they fight for a minute,
- 1:14:42Chucky runs out, he gets into the elevator and Karen is trying
- 1:14:46to keep pace with the elevator, but it's a losing battle because
- 1:14:49they've got like MC Escher stairs in this.
- 1:14:52Park she like trips and falls. Into the wall.
- 1:14:54Too, Yeah. Yeah, she really goes face her
- 1:14:56way down the staircase, and Chucky has gotten out first and
- 1:15:01he is disappeared. Yeah.
- 1:15:04So Karen runs to the police station, and she tells Detective
- 1:15:07Nora she goes. Yeah, So it turns out Andy was
- 1:15:10telling the truth. The doll is alive, which I know
- 1:15:12because I tried to throw him in the fire, and he bit me.
- 1:15:14And he's like, what? She shows the bite mark.
- 1:15:16And he's like, you need to go home.
- 1:15:21And she's like, fine, then if you're not going to help me to
- 1:15:24figure out a way to exonerate my son, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna
- 1:15:27find the answers to myself. And he's like, how are you gonna
- 1:15:29do that? She goes, I'm gonna go talk to
- 1:15:30the peddler I bought him from. He goes.
- 1:15:31You can't go to that part of town at night.
- 1:15:34Yeah. He's very immediately.
- 1:15:36Concerned. And you can kind of see it in
- 1:15:37his face. Size.
- 1:15:38He's like. Fine.
- 1:15:40It's like we're at shaking these a few years ago and there's the
- 1:15:43one bouncer at the rowdiest stage where there's like the
- 1:15:46most washing and crowd surfing and I want to say it was with
- 1:15:51low cut Connie when Adam jumped into the crowd.
- 1:15:53And the. Sounds are like you.
- 1:15:55He just like died a little inside.
- 1:15:58God damn. And he?
- 1:15:58Jumped the barrier and followed him through.
- 1:16:01The crowd to keep him safe. He's like, this is my fucking
- 1:16:04job. So she wanders around.
- 1:16:08She ends up, it's like a montage of her just asking all kinds of
- 1:16:11people. Nobody knows, but they're like
- 1:16:13giving her enough clues. And she eventually finds him.
- 1:16:16And she asks, She's like, hey, can you at least tell me?
- 1:16:18He's like, I mean, what you got? So she's like, I don't have
- 1:16:21much. Here's the money.
- 1:16:22He's like, that's not enough, What are you talking about?
- 1:16:23And she's like, I don't have anything else.
- 1:16:25He's like, no, you got plenty to give.
- 1:16:27So he tries to. And as he is pinning her down on
- 1:16:33the car, Norris shows up, brandishes his gun, fucking
- 1:16:37squawks him with it, pistol whips him or something.
- 1:16:40And then everybody's like, walks it out of there.
- 1:16:43So he gets him to talk. He's like, all right, I got it
- 1:16:45from the burnout. Toy store on Wabash.
- 1:16:48Which Norris is starting. Like, that's weird.
- 1:16:50That's exactly where I shot Charles.
- 1:16:53Yeah, Norris tells her after they've gotten away.
- 1:16:56He tells her about the shooting and the threat that he made with
- 1:16:59his dying breath. And she was like, well, then we
- 1:17:03need to, you know, we need to check out Charles Lee Ray.
- 1:17:06Like, let's go to his house. And he was like, I already did.
- 1:17:09And she was like, maybe if we go together, he's like, here's the
- 1:17:12address, but I'm just telling you there's nothing there.
- 1:17:16And she was like, but you can't go home if he threatened your
- 1:17:20life. He already got out of Caputo.
- 1:17:21Yeah. So you're next.
- 1:17:22Yeah, he's coming for you. You shouldn't go home.
- 1:17:24And he was like, I'm the cop. He was like, fuck that, well all
- 1:17:27right, I'm taking you home. So he drops her off.
- 1:17:30So he goes to the station and grabs something.
- 1:17:33It's the file for Charles Lee Ray.
- 1:17:34It's the file for Charles Lee Ray.
- 1:17:36I don't know if we knew that. No, they show it.
- 1:17:38Yeah, they show him, grab the file.
- 1:17:40So yeah, he gets back in his car and he's driving back home.
- 1:17:43And then as he's driving, Chucky comes up from behind, strangles
- 1:17:46him with a wire or some. Shit, it's jumper cables.
- 1:17:49Jumper cables, OK. And luckily Mike Norris is a
- 1:17:53smoker and this is 1988, so they have like a little slider.
- 1:17:56Yeah, but you have to warm it up.
- 1:17:58Yeah, but he had already. Done it because he's a smoker.
- 1:18:00He. Had pushed it?
- 1:18:01No, he pushed it before he got choked.
- 1:18:03Did. He.
- 1:18:04Yeah, OK, I thought he. No, no.
- 1:18:06So it was already heated up. So he's getting choked, and by
- 1:18:08the time he realizes what's happening, he grabs the lighter
- 1:18:11and burns Chucky's face. Yeah.
- 1:18:14So Chucky climbs underneath. Yeah, he's got contingency
- 1:18:17plans. He's the Lakeshore Strangler, so
- 1:18:19obviously that's the first thing he's going to go for.
- 1:18:21That's fair. Yeah.
- 1:18:23I mean, stick to it, you know, so.
- 1:18:25He's got a knife now too, and he's stabbing through the seat
- 1:18:28from the back. Then he gets underneath the seat
- 1:18:30and starts stabbing at his like crotching butt, which the
- 1:18:33driving position of this guy here, he's like hovering over
- 1:18:36the seat. Like how?
- 1:18:37Long are this fucker's legs it. Would be, I would love to like
- 1:18:40be the person driving down the road and I'll look over to my
- 1:18:43left and I see this motherfucker just over here just like
- 1:18:45hovering on his seat, just driving his.
- 1:18:48Fast. Yeah, I like him.
- 1:18:49He's gonna be at Scare Fest this year and I kind of go like that
- 1:18:51guy is. Yeah.
- 1:18:52Oh. Fucking.
- 1:18:53You have long legs. I'm gonna see how long your legs
- 1:18:55are. Can you, like, see it?
- 1:18:56Yeah. In the chair take.
- 1:18:57A chair for a second and pretend you're being stabbed but also
- 1:19:00still driving a. Car no, we're.
- 1:19:01Gonna it's gonna be like, all right, Hey, like, OK, we got
- 1:19:04your autograph. Can we get your picture?
- 1:19:05Is like, OK, sure. Stand over here.
- 1:19:07Let's just like shake him or whatever, like no stay in your
- 1:19:09seat. But pretend you're driving like
- 1:19:11you're being stabbed in the balls.
- 1:19:12And we're not going to be in the picture.
- 1:19:13We just are taking a picture of you, however like that.
- 1:19:19So it goes on and then a wreck happens.
- 1:19:23He flips the car. Yeah, and there's like a little
- 1:19:26bit like Chucky's playing with him some.
- 1:19:28He's enjoying, but he's trapped. But then Norris shoots him, so
- 1:19:32Chucky runs off. So let's see where we at.
- 1:19:40Karen arrives at Charles's place and I have written here.
- 1:19:46He's either an artist or a collector of art.
- 1:19:49Because did you like, check his fucking?
- 1:19:52Situation on the wall. I do think maybe.
- 1:19:56You know what though, I could also see it because we know
- 1:19:58later that he would have been with Tiffany at this time.
- 1:20:01I could see Tiffany being like. Let's check the place.
- 1:20:04I could see that too. Get a.
- 1:20:06Little nice to Devala. On the.
- 1:20:08Wall. Now that's a retcon.
- 1:20:10Yeah. But I could see that actually
- 1:20:12being true. Yeah, that's in my 2024 lens.
- 1:20:18This is my interpretation as Tiffany did the paint.
- 1:20:21On the wall. So Norris actually is there too.
- 1:20:25Like he's like all right, fuck it, I'm gonna go through with
- 1:20:27this shit cuz he just attacked me.
- 1:20:28Yeah, he says that he pulled Charles Lee Ray's file, known
- 1:20:33alias Chucky. Duh.
- 1:20:36This is. Fucking.
- 1:20:37Nickname for. Charles, this is not like brand
- 1:20:40new information. Look.
- 1:20:42At this shit, we're about Chucky, sometimes even Chuck.
- 1:20:48He said also one of his known acquaintances is John Bishop,
- 1:20:52who is a follower of Dembala. So Chucky has gotten there
- 1:20:59first. He has found John Bishop and he
- 1:21:02said I. I thought you.
- 1:21:05Gave me the key to immortality. I didn't think I could get hurt
- 1:21:10in this body, but I got shot and guess what?
- 1:21:13It hurt and I'm bleeding. And John's like, yeah, you're
- 1:21:18becoming more human. And he's like.
- 1:21:22What the fuck is that? About and he goes.
- 1:21:23There's a way to finalize this, but I'm not going to tell you
- 1:21:26because you're using this for evil instead of for good, and
- 1:21:30you're perverting what it's about.
- 1:21:32And then Chuck is like, OK, that's all good and well, except
- 1:21:34you probably shouldn't have shown me where you keep your own
- 1:21:36personal fucking voodoo doll. Yeah, why would you?
- 1:21:38Why? Why do you have your own voodoo
- 1:21:40doll for yourself? And why would you show renowned
- 1:21:44serial killer Charles Lee Ray where it is?
- 1:21:47Nothing about this guy ever would have been like I'm going
- 1:21:50to show him something very intimate and personal.
- 1:21:54It just seems like one of those things that you don't show
- 1:21:55anybody ever. Maybe somebody that you like
- 1:21:57actually trust, but maybe, I don't know, maybe he built that
- 1:22:01trust somehow. He's like a student of his for
- 1:22:03a. While that is true, that is.
- 1:22:05True. So yeah, so he starts using.
- 1:22:06He's like breaking as a limbs with it, trying to get the
- 1:22:09answers. Yeah.
- 1:22:10And then this is where he tells him he's like, all right, well,
- 1:22:12you got to use the body like of the person that you first told
- 1:22:17that you were. Like you changed the body.
- 1:22:22It's fucking goofy. Yeah.
- 1:22:24Like what the fuck? I do like that they kind of
- 1:22:26acknowledge how funny this turn of events is because it's like,
- 1:22:29oh, to get out of the body of a doll you have to go into the
- 1:22:33body of a six year old boy. It doesn't really solve his like
- 1:22:37problem of needing to be able to get around the world.
- 1:22:40And it leads to probably one of the worst lines.
- 1:22:42He's like, all right, see you, John.
- 1:22:43I got a date with a six year old kid.
- 1:22:46Like, come on, man. He meant it that way, you know.
- 1:22:49He meant it to sound as gross as.
- 1:22:51Possible. I like to imagine that even for
- 1:22:53him, like he said that out loud, he's like something a lot better
- 1:22:56in my head. He's like.
- 1:22:58That's. That's a line too far.
- 1:22:59Even for me didn't that did not come out as great as I thought.
- 1:23:03Norris and Karen arrive as John is dying and he's like, you must
- 1:23:07stop him before he completes the chant.
- 1:23:09His heart is almost human and for the heart.
- 1:23:12Yeah, save the kids. And I like this.
- 1:23:14That's a change from typical hormones where you aim for the
- 1:23:16head. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:23:18Yeah, yeah. So Andy sees Chucky from the
- 1:23:21window in his little, like, cell, and he calls for help.
- 1:23:24And Doctor Ardmardabish. I can't read my.
- 1:23:29I can't read what I wrote. Ardmore.
- 1:23:32I think it's Ardmore. OK.
- 1:23:34It's blending into my other words.
- 1:23:36Ardmore doesn't believe Andy, and then Andy starts crying and
- 1:23:41it's heartbreaking, Yeah. Maybe he's like seeing Chucky's
- 1:23:43skill, the fucking building and then we see Chucky.
- 1:23:46He is like outside the window of there, so he like climbs in.
- 1:23:49He sees the key to Andy's cell, so he gets the keys.
- 1:23:54But Andy, he's smart. We've seen this throughout the
- 1:23:57movie. He's not just a sweet little
- 1:23:59Angel, he's a sweet little genius Angel.
- 1:24:03And he has put pillows on the bed and then as Chucky comes in
- 1:24:08to stab him, he sneaks out through the door and locks him
- 1:24:11in it. Yeah, that doesn't really work
- 1:24:13cuz Chucky can climb right out the window.
- 1:24:16Yeah, plus I think he might still have the key.
- 1:24:18Yeah, I. Don't know if you can unlock it
- 1:24:20from the other side but whatever.
- 1:24:21So Andy has got into a room that kinda looks like like an
- 1:24:24operating room. Why?
- 1:24:25I don't know, but there's like a scalpel and.
- 1:24:28I don't. Yeah.
- 1:24:29You know, it's really weird. I thought that this was like a
- 1:24:31place where they were doing like psychiatric shit because he also
- 1:24:33have like the shock treatment. Yeah.
- 1:24:35So I don't know but. Like, why would we need a
- 1:24:37scalpel anyway? He's like, he looks very much
- 1:24:39like Gage in Pet Cemetery. Like, walking around with that
- 1:24:43little scalpel, except 10 times sweeter, 110 times sweeter.
- 1:24:52And the doctor comes in and he's like, I'm just gonna give you a
- 1:24:55shot. And Andy is, like, fighting for
- 1:24:57his life against it, which I feel like at this point, if he
- 1:24:59was fighting that hard, he would probably call a team
- 1:25:00intervention to have more people assist in giving the shot.
- 1:25:03But that's just, you know, my speculation on the situation.
- 1:25:07And as he's about to do this, Chucky comes in and he stabs the
- 1:25:11doc, and then he shocks him to death.
- 1:25:13Yeah, just like puts it on his head.
- 1:25:15Just yeah. He's like fried.
- 1:25:17And one of the things that I love is that later we'll see
- 1:25:19instances of this where, like, it seems like maybe Chucky was
- 1:25:23almost shaped by these moments where he's like, this guy's a
- 1:25:25fucking asshole. Yeah.
- 1:25:27He's more open about it later on, like when it's, I don't
- 1:25:32remember the character's name. Fiona, when she when she's
- 1:25:35there. And he goes, yeah, Nika, when
- 1:25:38he's like, God, this guy's, he's like, I know I am a murderer,
- 1:25:42but this guy's the worst. Yeah, this guy's an asshole,
- 1:25:46Yeah. So Norris and Karen arrived to
- 1:25:49the hospital, but Andy is already gone.
- 1:25:51And the detective is, like, explaining kind of the
- 1:25:53situation. And he's like, yeah, he killed
- 1:25:56the doctor. So, you know, your son's kind of
- 1:25:59a spree killer right now. And Karen's like, that's not
- 1:26:01true. And Norris is like, I can't, I
- 1:26:04can't get into this right now. We got to figure out where Andy
- 1:26:07is. And Karen's like I always told
- 1:26:08him, if something is wrong, go home.
- 1:26:12How does he know how to get home?
- 1:26:14That's good. How does he know how to navigate
- 1:26:16Chicago? Chucky taught him.
- 1:26:18Chucky taught. Him how to read the.
- 1:26:20Math maybe, I don't know. So okay, he's home.
- 1:26:24And then we see Chucky is also there.
- 1:26:26Chucky is in the elevator riding up, and this is where the
- 1:26:28tenants of the apartment are also in there.
- 1:26:30And that's an ugly doll. Yeah.
- 1:26:32Fuck you. So Andy is like barricading the
- 1:26:35door, except it's adorable because, like, he's barricading
- 1:26:38it with furniture that's light enough for him.
- 1:26:40To live. Yeah, but he's also a doll, so
- 1:26:43like, you know, evenly matched. Yeah, I.
- 1:26:45Get it? I just think it's like so sweet
- 1:26:47because like he's doing the thing that he thinks he's
- 1:26:50supposed to be doing, but he's just like missing the mark.
- 1:26:53But yeah, he's. He's still a six year old kid,
- 1:26:56yeah. It.
- 1:26:56Doesn't and that's that's what's.
- 1:26:58Great about this movie is that it like balances like him not
- 1:27:01being so genius that you're like this is unrealistic for a six
- 1:27:05year old. We still have moments like this.
- 1:27:07Yeah, yeah, where he does like a little foolish.
- 1:27:09Yeah, yeah. Chucky's still manages to make
- 1:27:12his way in there and he. Comes through like Santa Claus.
- 1:27:15Yeah, through the chimney. Yeah, man, I love that.
- 1:27:17And then he like kicks out the gate.
- 1:27:20The Great. Yeah.
- 1:27:22Grabs a bat, bangs, bonks. I should say Andy on the head.
- 1:27:26Well, to be fair, Andy tried to hit him with the bat 1st and
- 1:27:30drops the bat and ran and so Chucky took the bat and then
- 1:27:34bonked him. Yeah, bonked him.
- 1:27:35Bonked him real hard. Yeah, he's knocked out.
- 1:27:38He's now trying to perform the chant.
- 1:27:40Yeah, but Karen and Norris arrived to and interrupt it
- 1:27:43before it's completed. Thank goodness.
- 1:27:46So Chucky stabs Norris in the leg and Norris gives Karen one
- 1:27:51of his guns and he starts searching through the apartment
- 1:27:54because Chucky has gone and hidden and then he ends up
- 1:27:59hitting. He hits Norris with the back and
- 1:28:03then as as as he's about to go in for the killing, woke Karen
- 1:28:06comes in with a gun and shoots Chucky.
- 1:28:07Yeah, so there's like a whole big fight and then she ends up
- 1:28:11throwing him in the fireplace and she's trying to light it,
- 1:28:13but she can't reach the matches because they've fallen to the
- 1:28:15floor and she has Andy come grab one and he's like, cuz he can
- 1:28:19feel pain at this point. So it's not even just like, I
- 1:28:22don't want to die, I don't want to burn to death.
- 1:28:24And he's like, Andy, wait, I'm your friend to the end,
- 1:28:27remember? And Andy goes.
- 1:28:29This is the end, friend. Fucking one liner from Andy.
- 1:28:34I can't believe he did it. Yeah.
- 1:28:35I never thought I would say like a six year old sounds badass
- 1:28:38delivering a line, but he sounds badass delivering a line.
- 1:28:41He did it, Yeah. So he's on fire.
- 1:28:43We got a sweet ass fire sun because this is an actual yeah
- 1:28:46person in like a Chucky suit. Yeah, burning here.
- 1:28:51And yeah, so he's like a fucking crisp.
- 1:28:54And then like everything's cool. And then they're like, OK, Karen
- 1:28:58tells Andy to go get the first aid kit.
- 1:29:01Yeah, to to help Mike. And when he gets out there, it's
- 1:29:04very Nightmare on Elm Street because there's like scorched
- 1:29:08and burning footsteps throughout the apartment.
- 1:29:10Yeah, he's gone. So there he.
- 1:29:12Is and then this is where Chucky like sinks up behind him and he
- 1:29:15falls. This is that awesome scene where
- 1:29:18he's just like got the knife held over him and Andy's just
- 1:29:20backing up, like crawling on the ground back where it's so
- 1:29:24fucking awesome. But as all that's happening, one
- 1:29:28of them comes out there and shoots him.
- 1:29:30They sort of like dismembering him.
- 1:29:32Yeah, tearing. Yeah, She shoots off various
- 1:29:35body parts. She gets like a couple of I
- 1:29:37think both legs, one of the arms and the head.
- 1:29:40God damn she is like a fucking sharpshooter.
- 1:29:43So then the other detective arrives and he doesn't believe
- 1:29:47what's going on. And Norris is like, no,
- 1:29:49seriously, you can go see all the body parts out in the hall,
- 1:29:51just don't pick any of them up. And what does the detective do?
- 1:29:54He fucking picks. Up the head?
- 1:29:56Yep. And puts it on the thing.
- 1:29:57He's like, look at this thing, man.
- 1:29:58This thing is shit. He's like this.
- 1:29:59Is just plastic. And then as he's doing that,
- 1:30:03he's right in front of an air vent in the middle of the wall.
- 1:30:05That's weird. Don't know what that's about.
- 1:30:08It must be like, I don't know. I've lived in Kentucky and
- 1:30:12Tennessee my whole life. All of our air vents are on the
- 1:30:14floor. Well, this is Chicago.
- 1:30:15I know because I don't know if it's a Chicago thing or regional
- 1:30:18thing or what. But Chucky's arm bursts through
- 1:30:22there and grabs his throat, starts to stroke him and.
- 1:30:26And the head is saying. Kill him.
- 1:30:29Kill him. Oh.
- 1:30:31Yeah, and this is when Karen or Worm, I can't remember, he's
- 1:30:36like, shoot him in the heart. So they shoot the heart of the
- 1:30:39doll, and just like blood goes. Everywhere.
- 1:30:41And Chucky dies. Nora shoots him through the
- 1:30:44heart. Nora says OK, yeah, yeah.
- 1:30:48And then that's when Norris was like, now do you believe me?
- 1:30:51And this fact was like, yeah, but who's going to believe me?
- 1:30:54Yeah, it's like a curse, almost like.
- 1:30:56All right, you pass it on to me. Now who am I going to be able?
- 1:30:58To tell, yeah. So And that's where the movie
- 1:31:02ends. Yeah, that's the end of it.
- 1:31:05All right. I'm keeping it to.
- 1:31:06I'm keeping it A10 too. Yeah, it's a fucking awesome
- 1:31:08movie, man. I love this movie.
- 1:31:09It's a classic. It's.
- 1:31:10So good. So Talia was very restless and
- 1:31:16whiny during this movie. She tried to play at various
- 1:31:18points, went outside with 24 minutes left.
- 1:31:21Here's the thing. Talia is fucking afraid of these
- 1:31:23movies. She.
- 1:31:24Whacked my notes with her tail. Yeah, at 1:00.
- 1:31:26Point She Travis got me a Trekkie doll for Christmas two
- 1:31:30years ago. Was it last year?
- 1:31:32No, it was the year before. OK, 22, yeah.
- 1:31:36OK. That's what I mean with two
- 1:31:38years. Ago.
- 1:31:39Yeah, Yeah. No, I agree.
- 1:31:40Yeah, you were right. Yeah, but yeah.
- 1:31:42And Talia wouldn't come near it. Like, she literally, like she
- 1:31:47eyeballed it. And, you know, in that way that,
- 1:31:49like, dogs are suspicious. Like, she doesn't like it.
- 1:31:51She doesn't like it. Anytime we bring it out of the
- 1:31:54podcast room, she's very suspicious of it.
- 1:31:57She gets very tense when the movies are on.
- 1:31:59I don't. I maybe it's because she's got
- 1:32:01all of her toys, too. Maybe it scares.
- 1:32:03Her it could be. That, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:32:05So I think Talia gives it a 0 out of 10 for enjoyment, A10 out
- 1:32:08of 10 for how scary it is. So it's going to average out to
- 1:32:11five. You know, I bet it probably
- 1:32:12gives her like some uncanny valley type thing like this is
- 1:32:16like a child or a person. But there's something off about
- 1:32:20it. I don't know what it is.
- 1:32:21Yeah. She's like, it's just a little
- 1:32:22weird. She's like, I think it's a pod
- 1:32:24person guy, yeah. I don't think that's a real
- 1:32:26person you guys like probably good you keep them in a box all.
- 1:32:29The time Who is Zoe's ultimate warrior?
- 1:32:35I mean, you got to give it the Chucky.
- 1:32:37And on the flip end of that, well, Talia was like doing
- 1:32:41everything she could to protect the family from Chucky Zoe.
- 1:32:45I've got pictures of Zoe laying on his lap trying to get Pet by
- 1:32:49his hand. She was.
- 1:32:50Chucky, yes. So OK, we cannot.
- 1:32:54I think we're gonna have to not do Chucky for every single one
- 1:32:57of these for her though. No, you can't.
- 1:32:59But this one very much, yeah. If not Chucky, then Andy, like
- 1:33:04Andy was able to like navigate weird little situations.
- 1:33:10Had to go. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:33:12We'll give it to Chucky this one.
- 1:33:13Yeah, I'm just saying going forward, I think it will be a
- 1:33:15cop out if we do Chucky every single time.
- 1:33:17You're right. Yeah.
- 1:33:18Yeah. OK.
- 1:33:20Who did you relate to? I think I probably related to
- 1:33:28the woman on the elevator who's like, it's probably some kids
- 1:33:30doll. I'm like they'll come back for
- 1:33:32it. We'll leave it here.
- 1:33:34And like, it's kind of ugly though.
- 1:33:36I feel like that's like very my energy, like how I would react
- 1:33:40to that entire situation. That's fair, man.
- 1:33:45Who did I relate to? That's tough 'cause we don't, I
- 1:33:52don't feel like we get a lot of like secondary, like side
- 1:33:55characters in this movie, you know what I mean?
- 1:33:57It's hard. It's hard to identify with these
- 1:33:59people here man. I'm I'll relate to to Karen
- 1:34:08because I am also pretty terrible at like getting a gift
- 1:34:14boxes or wrapping presents. In fact, I got our nephews like
- 1:34:19a giant ass box for Fortnite V cards.
- 1:34:23The thing is that they wanted the V cards.
- 1:34:25They did. Yeah, they were immediately
- 1:34:27like, please tell us this is V cards and not like some stupid
- 1:34:30giant extravagant gift. That's yeah, I got it right, but
- 1:34:34I did the big box thing. Still so.
- 1:34:37Yeah, OK, no Dream sequel. No dream.
- 1:34:42Sequel. Are we gonna do a special one
- 1:34:44for this one like we did so? We don't have to, yeah.
- 1:34:50No, the song, the song one just kind of came naturally.
- 1:34:52Yes. So let's not force.
- 1:34:53It Yeah. OK, tagline.
- 1:34:57Man, what was the main tagline on the poster?
- 1:35:02Something's moved in with the Barkley family, and so is
- 1:35:05terror. Oh, that was the worst one,
- 1:35:07yeah. Oh, OK.
- 1:35:09What if instead of batteries included, it's battery included
- 1:35:13like? Oh, I like that.
- 1:35:15Yeah. Yeah, that's really good.
- 1:35:17Nice. I'm not going to lie, a little
- 1:35:22bit of that came because the ICE 9 kills homage to Child's Place
- 1:35:27called Assaults and Assault and Batteries.
- 1:35:29OK, yeah, that's fair. But I was also.
- 1:35:32Thinking of like batteries included, I was trying to think
- 1:35:34of a way to make that work. Yeah, I mean they already they
- 1:35:37even had like that. It's like the previous title.
- 1:35:39So I like it. That's really good.
- 1:35:43I'm gonna. Roll this week.
- 1:35:45You did good man. OK, now it is time for review.
- 1:35:49OK. And Internet review?
- 1:35:51Internet Review. So I picked this one on.
- 1:35:54Every week, guys, would you like that?
- 1:35:57Like and subscribe if you think Jesse should do that.
- 1:36:00The subscribers take everybody jumps shit from the show.
- 1:36:08OK, review. So this is somebody that watched
- 1:36:13it for the first time last year. October 2023.
- 1:36:16October 16th, 2023. All right, they say.
- 1:36:22I'm 40 and I've just watched this for the very first time.
- 1:36:26It's just awful and I can only believe that the reviews here
- 1:36:28must be paid. That script, terrible acting,
- 1:36:31awful casting, rubbish cinematography, terrible
- 1:36:34lighting, bad direction. I could go on.
- 1:36:37Even the puppetry is awful compared it to things that have
- 1:36:40come before it and it's really bad.
- 1:36:43Badly done. There's literally no suspense at
- 1:36:45all. The fact that doll is possessed
- 1:36:47is given away straight away and even that was done badly.
- 1:36:51Usually when I don't like a film I can at least find a redeemable
- 1:36:54quality. Not for this one.
- 1:36:56Even the music is a mess. The idea for the film is great,
- 1:37:00but God knows they were made sure God knows how they ever
- 1:37:05made it. A franchise.
- 1:37:06Worst horror in parentheses or quotations I've ever seen,
- 1:37:11without a doubt. I will conceive that the
- 1:37:16lighting at times could be a little better.
- 1:37:18I will concede that they don't really provide a lot of mystery.
- 1:37:21They do give it to you right away.
- 1:37:22I do think that the idea of it being a whodunit with Andy would
- 1:37:25have been interesting to it, I think.
- 1:37:26Mystery would be fun, but I do think that even without that,
- 1:37:30they're still able to create suspense, which I think is
- 1:37:32honestly, in some ways it's easy to have suspense when you have a
- 1:37:35mystery. Yeah, it's harder to have
- 1:37:37suspense when you don't, and I think they do a good job with
- 1:37:41that. Yeah, man, it's not the most
- 1:37:45suspenseful movie though, but they do have good moments of it.
- 1:37:48Yeah, it's not like lacking of it, but yeah, it's not like I
- 1:37:52don't really have like a feeling of dread or anything like that
- 1:37:55when I watch this movie. It's not scary.
- 1:37:58Like to me, it's just a very entertaining slasher movie.
- 1:38:01OK. I love the characters.
- 1:38:02I love the story, like everything is.
- 1:38:04I thought they killed it with the acting like everything.
- 1:38:07Like, yeah, I just, I can't agree with the acting because I
- 1:38:12think the cast is stellar. Directing, cinematography,
- 1:38:16writing like it's all great. And the puppeteering.
- 1:38:18The puppeteering is top. Tier.
- 1:38:20What are they? Comparing it to I'd like to
- 1:38:22honestly like, I would really like to know what they're
- 1:38:24comparing it to to see what their expectations were for this
- 1:38:27because I think that this was really amazing.
- 1:38:30It's like. They.
- 1:38:31Yes, they put. So much effort into what they
- 1:38:34were doing because they also had to, like, make his mouth, Matt.
- 1:38:36They may be thinking of like Spielberg type shit like when
- 1:38:41did. He doesn't.
- 1:38:42Come out Spielberg budget 90s. 90s OK, well, even before then
- 1:38:46I'm sure he like Jaws, you know what I mean?
- 1:38:48Like they that's like a real, like it looks like a real shark.
- 1:38:52Well, like, I mean, this looks like a real fucking doll.
- 1:38:54The shark doesn't have as much complex movement as this doll.
- 1:38:58Like don't get me wrong, Jaws is a classic for a fucking reason.
- 1:39:01They they made it very clear with that movie that it was a
- 1:39:05pain in the ass to get that shark to move properly at all.
- 1:39:08Well, yeah, that's why the woman that gets killed in the opening
- 1:39:11scene gets fucked. Yeah, I know.
- 1:39:13The robot went rogue. Exactly like, but you know, like
- 1:39:16they overcame it. Robot, not rogue.
- 1:39:19Back to rogue. No, I mean like it's fucking top
- 1:39:23tier. Like they even do lip syncing
- 1:39:25which like that is nice. That's great.
- 1:39:28And most of it, most of them hadn't even met Brad Dorf
- 1:39:31because he did all of his lines. In the studio they were like
- 1:39:34they had his lines recorded in advance.
- 1:39:36That way they could lip sync it for the scene, which is smart.
- 1:39:38That's how you should do it. It's really well done.
- 1:39:40So now I I get it, maybe not for you, but like you know, there
- 1:39:44you got some points, but at the same time, I don't necessarily
- 1:39:46agree with everything you said there, bud.
- 1:39:48And this is also a franchise that I feel like shifts tonally
- 1:39:52throughout, so I think maybe if the first one isn't for you,
- 1:39:55maybe a later one could be. Later ones maybe, but I think
- 1:39:58this person's wanting like legit scary, like actual horror and
- 1:40:02this is like the first three are like the hardest with the
- 1:40:06horror. Yeah.
- 1:40:07So. Oh no, I think Curse of Chucky
- 1:40:10is pretty intense. I I don't think it's at the same
- 1:40:16caliber as one and two. I don't know.
- 1:40:18We'll get there. Yeah, we'll get there.
- 1:40:19We'll get there. That that'll be a Thanksgiving
- 1:40:21special for y'all. Yeah, OK.
- 1:40:24Listen to reviews. OK.
- 1:40:25All right, we'll start off over on Twitter.
- 1:40:27Yeah, we have. I saw a lot of those come
- 1:40:29through. So since he was since he got his
- 1:40:34doctorate, he has now been sired.
- 1:40:37He has Sir Aquile boobs. Oh OK.
- 1:40:40Knighted you mean? Knighted.
- 1:40:42Yes. He he's a sire though, right?
- 1:40:45Is that the thing that's what they call them?
- 1:40:47Like when you get 90, that's like a certain right?
- 1:40:49Yes, Sire is something different.
- 1:40:52OK, I don't fucking know all. Right, like, like they'll say
- 1:40:56like this horse sire, this racehorse, like this you, you
- 1:40:59made, you procreated. Sorry boobs, I did not mean to
- 1:41:07imply that like. He's been sired and.
- 1:41:11I'm like. So.
- 1:41:15It's OK all right so his starts off by saying give me the power
- 1:41:23I beg of you. yo-yo are giving me a reason to revisit all of
- 1:41:27these. Haven't watched in ages.
- 1:41:29I remember watching them all out of order back in the day but
- 1:41:32rewatching this one holy fuck. Talk about intense for 80s that
- 1:41:35fucking no batteries reveal and then when he comes to life for
- 1:41:39the first time on screen, God damn shit is terrifying.
- 1:41:44Love this franchise and Duriff is a fucking treasure as the
- 1:41:47voice slash character of Chucky. Fucking iconic man 2 thumbs up.
- 1:41:50I absolutely agree other than needing a reason to rewatch the
- 1:41:54franchise other than like oh darn now I have a reason to
- 1:41:58watch. It Hey, man, I didn't watch it
- 1:42:00fully until last year. You know what I mean?
- 1:42:02Yeah, like, I get it. But yeah, man, I would 100%
- 1:42:05agree with everything that you said there.
- 1:42:07This thing is a fucking classic for all the reasons you said.
- 1:42:11Moving on, Joe Fricatron. As is his name.
- 1:42:14Brad Duriff is awesome. Such a great film.
- 1:42:16Second or third best toy store scene in horror?
- 1:42:20What are your other top toy store scenes?
- 1:42:24I am curious to know Joe. I hope some of them are Black
- 1:42:27Friday. That's a Toy Story.
- 1:42:29That's an all in the Toy Story. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:42:32It doesn't top this in my opinion.
- 1:42:35Maybe Joe's? Yeah, Joe, we'll.
- 1:42:38Talk. Yeah, Tell us.
- 1:42:40Tell us, buddy. Next up, word, Zombie staple of
- 1:42:44horror history. Really like the first Child's
- 1:42:46Play for the heavier horror theme.
- 1:42:48But I find the series gets better as it goes on.
- 1:42:51The next few months are going to be great.
- 1:42:53Fuck yeah I agree man. Like this one's a fucking like
- 1:42:56classic, but I love the tone progression of this series as it
- 1:43:00goes. Like it becomes its own thing.
- 1:43:03Like it finds its own footing. And you guys, I'm just going to
- 1:43:06go ahead and start plugging this now.
- 1:43:07I know it's only June, but in October we're going to be on TV
- 1:43:10Trivia Pod again. This time we're actually doing a
- 1:43:13horror movie and it is child's play and we nerd out so hard,
- 1:43:18not just about this one, but about the whole franchise.
- 1:43:21So if you need a little extra dose, you have that coming.
- 1:43:24Yeah, we'll to look forward to. We'll play it whenever it
- 1:43:27releases too. But yeah, I just remember
- 1:43:30talking about that, and one of the things he does is like, your
- 1:43:33favorite moments. And we were like, stressed.
- 1:43:36Yeah, because there's just so much good stuff in this whole
- 1:43:39franchise. And I am very excited about
- 1:43:41where we're going to go from here.
- 1:43:45Over on Instagram Cube, save says Chucky rolls first one is
- 1:43:48classic. Yes, it is a fucking classic.
- 1:43:51And yeah, Chucky, like other than Michael, probably my
- 1:43:54favorite slasher, he's just got he's just so fucking likable.
- 1:43:58He's so. Cares man, like he's so cares
- 1:44:00and it also like he's just it's that like honor among thieves
- 1:44:05kind of thing where like even bad guys have their own like
- 1:44:08code that they stick to their own like moral system.
- 1:44:11Like, you know, he's like I was talking about before, where
- 1:44:15later on we're going to have him be like.
- 1:44:16This guy's a creep. Or like in the series where he
- 1:44:20goes, I'm not a monster, Jake. Like he's not like, homophobic.
- 1:44:25Like he just. Likes to kill.
- 1:44:27People, I'm a killer. I'm not a monster.
- 1:44:29Yet. Like you sure bud, you're still
- 1:44:31a monster. Yeah, like, but I, I like that
- 1:44:34we get we're going to get these layers to him and God, one of my
- 1:44:37favorite moments in the whole franchise is happening in the
- 1:44:40second one, and I'm very excited.
- 1:44:43The second one's amazing. OK final review, our buddy
- 1:44:47Michael E Howard who says Child's Play is a great starter.
- 1:44:51Another fun and unique franchise.
- 1:44:54A doll as a killer. Yes, the original was terrifying
- 1:44:58for its time in a true classic. Bring on the fun and I will be
- 1:45:01your friend till the end. 9 out of 10.
- 1:45:04And then he says, total side note, this is my third favorite
- 1:45:06franchise. Falling Saw and Elm St.
- 1:45:09Kind of wait to see how you all view these.
- 1:45:11Yeah, yeah. We fucking love them too, man.
- 1:45:15This is becoming one of our favorite franchises also.
- 1:45:19Yeah, yeah, absolutely. What else can we say about it?
- 1:45:22I think everybody's rounded this thing out perfectly and kind of
- 1:45:25echoed everything that we've said the entire episode, too.
- 1:45:27It's just a fucking classic. I'm glad to know that the
- 1:45:30community we're a part of is very much on the same page for.
- 1:45:33Those same, Yeah, it's awesome. I'm glad you guys are ready for
- 1:45:36this one. I'm glad we made the right call
- 1:45:38with this franchise here. Yes, we definitely, we picked it
- 1:45:41for us, yeah. Because.
- 1:45:42We knew we'd be sitting with it for the better part of a year,
- 1:45:45yeah. But we're glad that it, like,
- 1:45:47resonates with you all too. For.
- 1:45:49Sure. So we're in for the long haul,
- 1:45:50y'all? We're gonna be doing this thing,
- 1:45:52yes, but. Speaking of being an in it for
- 1:45:55the long haul, yeah, we wanna take our Patreon buddies.

- 1:46:12Amber, Michael, Lord, Zombie Tyler and a new Bubby.
- 1:46:16This month we've got Chad. Chad.
- 1:46:18Chad of Predator and Doom Asylum.
- 1:46:22Yeah, so you can thank him and Joe Freakatron for the Joe
- 1:46:27illusion that brought us Doom Asylum.

- 1:48:05happening. We haven't even started to look
- 1:48:07at it because this month I cannot emphasize how insanely
- 1:48:10busy we've been. Yeah, which is also why next
- 1:48:13week is going to be very busy because we're going to be having
- 1:48:16our regular show. We'll have our TV or not to be
- 1:48:20out this weekend. Yeah.
- 1:48:22And for budget tier patrons, we all have our bonus episode.

- 1:48:27We kind. Of.
- 1:48:28We, yeah, we, we don't, we don't have anything nailed down yet,
- 1:48:31but we'll, yeah, it'll be. Fun.

- 1:48:49All right, until next time. Bye,
- 1:49:07nice. This humidity is getting to me
- 1:49:10this week. OK.
