- 0:55Speaker 1: Hey, I wanted to quickly shout out to other places
- 0:58Speaker 1: people can find us. We have another podcast called Approved
- 1:03Speaker 1: with Megan and Wendy. Those are short ten minute episodes
- 1:06Speaker 1: that drop every Wednesday where we each share one item
- 1:10Speaker 1: every week that we've been using and loving. And on
- 1:14Speaker 1: last week's episode, Wendy shared a holiday tea that she
- 1:18Speaker 1: loves and we got so many dms by people who
- 1:20Speaker 1: raced out and bought that tea. I am not kidding you.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And I have a confession to make. We often record
- 1:26Speaker 1: in person, and so Wendy keeps a stash of tea
- 1:29Speaker 1: at my house for recording days. Today we're recording remotely,
- 1:34Speaker 1: so you don't know this, but last night, before watching
- 1:37Speaker 1: About More Christmas, I busted into your tea stash and
- 1:42Speaker 1: I had a cup of the Tazo Joy tea and
- 1:46Speaker 1: it was a delight.
- 1:48Speaker 3: In fact, well, first of all, I'm so surprised because
- 1:51Speaker 3: it has caffeine in it, so I'm surprised that you
- 1:53Speaker 3: drink it at nighttime.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I needed it.
- 1:56Speaker 3: And also, do you understand why it's seasonal? Like what
- 2:02Speaker 3: makes it seasonal?
- 2:03Speaker 1: I don't know, No, it doesn't. It's not like cinnamon spicy.
- 2:08Speaker 1: It's just very I mean, it has pretty strong peach notes.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I know it's.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Bizarre, but I'm telling you, every time I see it
- 2:15Speaker 3: at Target, I grab another box because it's only here
- 2:18Speaker 3: a limited time.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So it was really good. So thank you, kay.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm so excited.
- 2:24Speaker 1: We also have a Patreon, And if you're saying, what
- 2:26Speaker 1: is that, Patreon is a platform where online content creators
- 2:31Speaker 1: can have their own little communities for a small monthly
- 2:34Speaker 1: subscription fee and on our Patreon. It is not Hallmark focused.
- 2:39Speaker 1: It's a women's lifestyle channel. It's like hanging out with
- 2:42Speaker 1: your two best friends once a week. We produce four
- 2:45Speaker 1: bonus podcast episodes over there every single month for the
- 2:50Speaker 1: bargain price of five dollars, but you can get a
- 2:53Speaker 1: full week free so you can check it out see
- 2:56Speaker 1: if it's something that you would enjoy. We always link
- 2:58Speaker 1: it in our show notes, but you can also find
- 3:00Speaker 1: it Patreon dot com, slash Megan and Wendy. Let's jump
- 3:06Speaker 1: right into a Biltmore Christmas with a synopsis.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Okay, it's a long one. The one on the Hallmark
- 3:12Speaker 3: Channel dot com website was very long, and the imdbont
- 3:17Speaker 3: IMDb was very short and inaccurate, so I kind of
- 3:22Speaker 3: melded the two together.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Buckle up, folks.
- 3:27Speaker 3: The story follows Lucy as she's hired to write the
- 3:30Speaker 3: script for a remake of the holiday movie His Merry Wife.
- 3:33Speaker 3: When the head of the studio isn't satisfied with the
- 3:36Speaker 3: inding Lucy wrote because it deviates from the original feel
- 3:39Speaker 3: good conclusion, he sends Lucy to Biltmore Estate for research
- 3:43Speaker 3: and inspiration. While On a tour of the estate, she
- 3:47Speaker 3: discovers her ability to travel back to nineteen forty seven,
- 3:51Speaker 3: where she embraces the chance to uncover the truth about
- 3:54Speaker 3: the movie's original ending. While back in time, she and
- 3:59Speaker 3: one of the film stars, Jack Houston, become close. Before
- 4:03Speaker 3: she could return to present day, Lucy must make things
- 4:05Speaker 3: right or threaten to alter the future. Forever stars Chris
- 4:10Speaker 3: pa'laha and Bethany joylyns.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's Time for News and notes a bit More Christmas
- 4:16Speaker 1: was directed by John Putch, who has fifty nine directing credits,
- 4:20Speaker 1: including last Year's A Holiday Spectacular and before that, You
- 4:24Speaker 1: Had Me at Aloha. He has a good mix of
- 4:26Speaker 1: TV and movie directing. Some TV shows that he's directed
- 4:29Speaker 1: include Cougartown, No Tomorrow and American.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Housewife, tons of sitcoms I Was Looking Back Today Too.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Writer Marcy Holland has forty one writing credits, and she
- 4:42Speaker 3: is a prolific Hallmark writer, including two HANNAHS. Swinson mysteries
- 4:46Speaker 3: and several movies in the Time to Come Home series,
- 4:50Speaker 3: including this year's Time for Her to Come Home for Christmas,
- 4:53Speaker 3: which premieres tonight, November thirtieth on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Look at You.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Costume designer Keith Nielsen, also known as Keith Costumes, designed
- 5:04Speaker 1: on four Movies's Countdown to Christmas season. He also appeared
- 5:08Speaker 1: on an episode of Girls Gone Hallmark reviewing Mystic Christmas.
- 5:12Speaker 1: He of course, was the costume designer for a Biltmore
- 5:16Speaker 1: Christmas and is going to be a key player in
- 5:19Speaker 1: quite a few.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Of my notes.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Oh interesting, Then I will wait because I have an
- 5:24Speaker 3: additional note, but I will reserve what I know when
- 5:29Speaker 3: we get to what we liked?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Bethany Joey Lyns plays Lucy Hardgrove. Her appearance on One
- 5:36Speaker 3: Tree Hill is probably her biggest project with forty three
- 5:40Speaker 3: acting credits, but she's made a big impression paired with
- 5:43Speaker 3: Tyler Hines in an Unexpected Christmas in twenty twenty one,
- 5:47Speaker 3: which makes it really hard for me to believe that
- 5:49Speaker 3: that was the last Hallmark movie she was in.
- 5:52Speaker 1: M hm.
- 5:53Speaker 3: But I just feel like I feel, maybe because this
- 5:57Speaker 3: movie has been promoted all year law that she is
- 6:01Speaker 3: like one of the Hallmark regulars, But she's really not,
- 6:05Speaker 3: you know, unlike.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Her co star Christopher Polaha, who plays Jack Houston. His
- 6:10Speaker 1: seventy six acting credits include his beloved role on the
- 6:14Speaker 1: Mystery one O one series, a role in the recent
- 6:18Speaker 1: Prime book adaptation Harlan Coben Shelter, and of course, roles
- 6:23Speaker 1: in Hallmark romances like We Wish You a Married Christmas
- 6:26Speaker 1: and A Dickens of a Holiday.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Side note, Megan and I, we were planning our twenty
- 6:32Speaker 3: twenty four calendar and we're talking about Christmas in July. Yes,
- 6:38Speaker 3: and I think we might need to add A Dickens
- 6:41Speaker 3: of a Holiday onto that schedule because I recall not
- 6:46Speaker 3: really liking that movie except for his monologue at the end,
- 6:51Speaker 3: So I just think it needs to be revisited. It
- 6:54Speaker 3: might just be one of those revisited movies.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Well, let's see, I have another thought on another movie
- 7:00Speaker 1: later in this review.
- 7:01Speaker 2: That's okay, part of that lineup. I'm excited.
- 7:04Speaker 3: John Nitsan Freaks plays Winston. His resume of ninety six
- 7:08Speaker 3: acting credits reads like a thing that I would never
- 7:12Speaker 3: watch so much Star Trek. He got to start on
- 7:15Speaker 3: a series called The Doctors in the late seventies, in
- 7:19Speaker 3: which he appeared in ninety episodes. I kind of remember
- 7:22Speaker 3: that show, The Doctors. I mean, I was born in
- 7:25Speaker 3: nineteen seventy nine. I was born in seventy five. I
- 7:28Speaker 3: just feel like I've seen repeats of it or I
- 7:30Speaker 3: remember it being I'm having a weird flashback right now.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Robert Picardo plays Harold Balaban and Whoe, two hundred forty
- 7:39Speaker 1: five acting credit to his name, even more star Trek
- 7:43Speaker 1: on this resume. He has five upcoming projects, including horror
- 7:48Speaker 1: films Crimson Shadows and Werewolf's Game.
- 7:51Speaker 3: I wonder when those are coming out, like next year.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Ak Benninghoffen plays his merry wife superfan Margaret. She has
- 8:00Speaker 3: just six acting credits, but has been in most recently
- 8:05Speaker 3: Pain Hustlers on Netflix and The Staircase on Hbomax.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, she like just started acting like two years ago.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I mean, how does that happen?
- 8:13Speaker 3: You get these like super huge like series, Like it's
- 8:16Speaker 3: crazy to me.
- 8:17Speaker 2: I know.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Mary McDonald plays the director of this movie. She has
- 8:21Speaker 1: a pretty small She plays the director of the remake
- 8:25Speaker 1: right of the movie. She has a pretty small role.
- 8:27Speaker 1: This does appear to be her first Hallmark movie in
- 8:30Speaker 1: her forty seven acting credits, and her very first role
- 8:33Speaker 1: was on General Hospital in nineteen sixty three. Wow, and
- 8:36Speaker 1: finally at Biltmore Christmas was filmed on location at the
- 8:39Speaker 1: Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, in early twenty twenty three. Listeners,
- 8:44Speaker 1: if you're in the area, you can visit and take
- 8:47Speaker 1: a tour of the Biltmore estate. Is pretty spectacular. You've
- 8:50Speaker 1: been there, right?
- 8:51Speaker 2: I have?
- 8:52Speaker 3: I haven't, so tell me about it. Is there a
- 8:54Speaker 3: hotel on the property as well? Yes, the inn at
- 8:57Speaker 3: the Biltmore where they stayed. It's a big tourist attraction.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Number of places to stay, that's fun.
- 9:02Speaker 2: M I would go there.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Oh should you and I go?
- 9:06Speaker 3: Sure? Okay, all right, let's talk first impressions. This is
- 9:10Speaker 3: maybe the greatest Hellmark movie I've ever seen.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Oh indeed, my first impression is Christopher Palaja's forty's voice
- 9:17Speaker 1: deserves its own wowie zowie designation.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I absolutely agree.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Don't you think he was made for a nineteen forties
- 9:26Speaker 3: role like that?
- 9:28Speaker 1: I was blown away by how perfect he was. The
- 9:33Speaker 1: cut of his jaw, even had that total forties look,
- 9:38Speaker 1: the slicked back hair, and then he just slid right
- 9:42Speaker 1: into that forties.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Dialect like it was nothing. Yeah, he didn't disappoint. Now,
- 9:47Speaker 2: Oh well, let's talk.
- 9:50Speaker 3: What we liked, Okay, can I start please, So listeners
- 9:56Speaker 3: of the show and Megan no I Knitore Risley don't
- 10:01Speaker 3: like movies that fall into like time travel sci fi
- 10:05Speaker 3: fantasy genre. I just have a hard time suspending reality.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Those movies don't do it for me. But this was different.
- 10:14Speaker 3: This was so different. I was so invested in the
- 10:17Speaker 3: romance between Lucy and Jack.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I was caught up.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And Lucy getting back and forth in time. I was
- 10:24Speaker 3: worried how she might alter the present day. Just everything worked.
- 10:30Speaker 1: In the story and the movie for me, I agree
- 10:33Speaker 1: with that. With that, and to piggyback on that, my
- 10:36Speaker 1: note was this might be the first Hallmark time travel
- 10:39Speaker 1: movie to fully land the plane. Like, if we're accepting
- 10:42Speaker 1: that we can time travel via hourglass, which I'm willing
- 10:46Speaker 1: to accept for the premise of this movie, then I
- 10:48Speaker 1: can also accept that we can figure out the logistics
- 10:51Speaker 1: of nineteen forties Jack arriving in the twenty first century.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I often get caught up in half of all of
- 10:56Speaker 1: that works, but I thought it was handled very well. Yeah, Like, honestly,
- 11:02Speaker 1: if you asked me, because she saw that he dies
- 11:05Speaker 1: very young, and I don't even remember the resolution to that.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I don't remember, like what he said to like, make
- 11:12Speaker 1: that all make sense, he said, She said, but you
- 11:16Speaker 1: died in nineteen forty eight, and he said, no, we
- 11:19Speaker 1: staged that in case I was ever successful, because you
- 11:22Speaker 1: told me Christmas Eve nineteen forty eight. And so that's
- 11:26Speaker 1: when he finally realized that he would be able to
- 11:28Speaker 1: time travel to her, and so they staged his death
- 11:31Speaker 1: in the past. Apparently he had spas on the inside
- 11:35Speaker 1: in case he was successful, so it wouldn't be a disappearance.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Got it.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But see it didn't even matter to me, right, So
- 11:42Speaker 1: that's my point that I mentioned earlier. There is another well,
- 11:46Speaker 1: it's not time travel, it's a It made me think
- 11:49Speaker 1: there's a ghost Christmas movie. Oh oh, yes, the ghost
- 11:54Speaker 1: becomes corporeal in order to stay.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Is this the one that you think the ghost is
- 11:58Speaker 2: so hot?
- 11:59Speaker 1: The ghost is so hot? Objectively is the ultimate wowie's awie.
- 12:04Speaker 1: It is called the Spirit of Christmas, and I do
- 12:07Speaker 1: believe we need to add it to our Christmas in
- 12:08Speaker 1: July lineup.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Okay, it's at it. Make a note of it. I'm
- 12:12Speaker 2: taking out my notebook right now. I'm going to write
- 12:15Speaker 2: this down. That's funny.
- 12:18Speaker 3: There's a couple standout moments for me in this movie.
- 12:22Speaker 3: When I finished the movie, I jumped on Twitter and
- 12:25Speaker 3: I was like, I don't even know how I'm going
- 12:26Speaker 3: to review this movie. Like I was feeling something I
- 12:29Speaker 3: had never felt before after a Hamewark movie, and so
- 12:34Speaker 3: I think the best way for me to go about
- 12:36Speaker 3: it is just talk about these standout moments.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Is that okay with you? Yes? Okay.
- 12:42Speaker 3: First, I was so impressed with the slightest change in
- 12:48Speaker 3: color that the movie took on when Lucy flips over
- 12:51Speaker 3: the hourglass to time travel.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Did you notice it it's warmer?
- 12:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, it has like this yellowy, vintage Tinge. I
- 12:59Speaker 3: just thought that was such a smart choice instead of,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you know, going back into like black and white, which
- 13:05Speaker 3: feels like, okay, yeah, you would do that to go
- 13:07Speaker 3: back in time going black and white, but we it
- 13:10Speaker 3: would have made that confusing because at the top of
- 13:14Speaker 3: the movie we see the original movie in black and white.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean?
- 13:19Speaker 3: Yeah, So it just was a smart choice. I thought,
- 13:21Speaker 3: just to just slightly change the warmth of the movie
- 13:26Speaker 3: to like mark that now she's back in time. I
- 13:28Speaker 3: just I thought it was chef's kiss. I'm geeking out
- 13:32Speaker 3: over it. I know I have a lot, Just go ahead, Okay.
- 13:36Speaker 3: The next thing, when Chris and Joy seeing jingle bells
- 13:41Speaker 3: at the piano, Oh my gosh, I don't love jingle bells.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Like that's to me like a very like yeah, jingle bells.
- 13:50Speaker 2: But they started on dashing through this stuff. God, it
- 13:53Speaker 2: was so good.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And I didn't realize that he could sing. I didn't
- 13:57Speaker 1: know either of them could sing. I thought she had
- 14:00Speaker 1: really lovely clear voice. You didn't know she sings, No,
- 14:04Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 14:05Speaker 3: We shared she had a summer song that came out
- 14:09Speaker 3: called like cherries or strawberries or something like that.
- 14:11Speaker 2: We shared it on our Instagram.
- 14:13Speaker 3: You don't, really that's about I follow her on Instagram.
- 14:16Speaker 3: She's always in Nashville. She's always doing like these really
- 14:19Speaker 3: tiny small shows. I knew she's she could sing. I
- 14:25Speaker 3: didn't know Chris could sing. I know his son sings,
- 14:27Speaker 3: but I didn't know he could sing. And it just
- 14:29Speaker 3: takes it. Wowie's awi next level for me.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Mm hmmmm.
- 14:33Speaker 3: But that whole scene was just stunning. They were both
- 14:36Speaker 3: so great. It was so enjoyable to watch. Loved loved,
- 14:40Speaker 3: loved it.
- 14:41Speaker 1: The face she makes when he does the little trill
- 14:43Speaker 1: on the piano. It's just top to bottom so good.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I agree, I so good.
- 14:48Speaker 3: There are a couple of lines which I thought were
- 14:51Speaker 3: perfection in this movie. The standout for me was why
- 14:55Speaker 3: couldn't the hourglass be a DeLorean? Yes, and I freaking
- 14:59Speaker 3: love a call to like another famous time travel movie
- 15:02Speaker 3: that is thirty years old. But like, everybody knows it right,
- 15:06Speaker 3: everybody knows what a Dolorean stands for. Yes, I just
- 15:10Speaker 3: so good, so so good. I want to talk about
- 15:15Speaker 3: her black and gold dress. Do you want to talk
- 15:17Speaker 3: about your notes with Keith? About Keith right now?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Sure?
- 15:19Speaker 1: So let me start by saying a standing ovation for
- 15:23Speaker 1: Keith Costumes, the costume designer on this movie, because one
- 15:26Speaker 1: of the things you mentioned the lighting. I think you've
- 15:29Speaker 1: got a time travel movie to a very specific time period,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and the set is the same, right, So they're set
- 15:34Speaker 1: in the same place, So you need to make it very.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Clear when they're in one era.
- 15:39Speaker 1: And they do that in a couple of ways, and
- 15:41Speaker 1: the costuming is the most obvious one. The music does
- 15:46Speaker 1: it too, which I don't know if you noticed, but
- 15:49Speaker 1: the music, you know, the music in Hallmark movies typically
- 15:52Speaker 1: fades into the background. We've got like hyjiinx music, and
- 15:54Speaker 1: we've got Christmas morning music, and we've got sad music.
- 15:58Speaker 1: But this was very nineteen forties movie music, and combined
- 16:06Speaker 1: with the costumes, the visual effect of his costuming, I
- 16:12Speaker 1: it's you could watch this movie with the sound off
- 16:15Speaker 1: and still find it stunning to look at.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I agree her suit with the red coat, loved it.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Those shoulders loved it. And let's talk about the dress.
- 16:27Speaker 3: This black and gold dress was so gorgeous and interesting
- 16:32Speaker 3: it made my brain hurt. I was like, what is
- 16:34Speaker 3: the pattern on the gown? I couldn't tell. It just
- 16:39Speaker 3: was so stunning and that like gold sparkly tool in
- 16:44Speaker 3: the front, the way those shoulder leaves slid down, the arms,
- 16:50Speaker 3: the detailing in the back.
- 16:52Speaker 2: I thought, loved it. Why you get to wear that?
- 16:54Speaker 3: She puts a shrug on, which just I was like
- 16:58Speaker 3: that first all, and that's what it's called.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I was like, I'm oh my god, I died.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I was like, I wish I could live in this
- 17:05Speaker 3: era like where you would just dress up like this
- 17:07Speaker 3: and it would be you know, acceptable, Like can you
- 17:11Speaker 3: imagine getting dressed up like are you going to an
- 17:13Speaker 3: award show? Like where would you wear that? You know, right,
- 17:16Speaker 3: a Christmas party? That's how you dressed so pretty?
- 17:19Speaker 2: I know.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I saw a comment and they're like, it's so lovely
- 17:21Speaker 1: to see this as opposed to ugly Christmas sweaters at
- 17:23Speaker 1: a party. Like when did we get away from it? Oh,
- 17:26Speaker 1: that's a fair point.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 3: I would also like to note that the character Ava
- 17:33Speaker 3: Hayward the blonde yes. In the towards the end too,
- 17:37Speaker 3: she's wearing a beautiful, like long sleeve, high necked cranberry
- 17:41Speaker 3: colored dress that I also thought was stunning and needed
- 17:46Speaker 3: its own moment too.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I just thought it was so.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Reserved and modest but beautiful at the same time.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Just loved it, loved it, loved it so much.
- 17:56Speaker 3: And in fact, I want to tell you I DMed
- 17:59Speaker 3: Key on Sunday night.
- 18:02Speaker 2: He was all over Twitter on Yes and I asked him.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I was like, did you do all the costumes, like
- 18:08Speaker 3: all the forties era costumes? And he said every costume
- 18:12Speaker 3: either went through him or his team, so he did
- 18:15Speaker 3: everything for this movie.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I thought it was such a thoughtful choice because Ava
- 18:20Speaker 1: and Lucy come down the stairs together at the Christmas
- 18:23Speaker 1: party and they're side by side and their dresses are
- 18:26Speaker 1: so drastically different, but also very complimentary side by side.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I really liked it.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it was great, great, great, great, One technical thing.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I liked the side by side filming of the past
- 18:41Speaker 1: and future scenes. Just a couple of moments where we
- 18:43Speaker 1: get it. The most striking one is toward the end
- 18:46Speaker 1: of the movie when Lucy and Jack both go back
- 18:48Speaker 1: to their rooms my favorite and you just get there
- 18:52Speaker 1: in the exact same room eighty years apart. I thought
- 18:56Speaker 1: that was really incredibly well done and technically very challenging
- 19:01Speaker 1: to get them to be doing, you know, the exact
- 19:03Speaker 1: same thing at the same pacing, in the same moment.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I also loved the use of the scenes from His
- 19:08Speaker 1: Mary Wife. We get both scenes that are on screen
- 19:11Speaker 1: from the produced movie and we get the on set scenes,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and I thought that was really well done to get
- 19:19Speaker 1: us invested in aside from the love story of got
- 19:23Speaker 1: going her job here, what's she trying to do in
- 19:27Speaker 1: doing a remake of this movie?
- 19:28Speaker 2: Right? I agree? I absolutely agree with that.
- 19:31Speaker 3: The end scene when Lucy's at the bottom of the
- 19:34Speaker 3: stairs at the estate and she turns around and sees
- 19:37Speaker 3: Jack at the top of the stairs, I had full
- 19:40Speaker 3: body chills and my nose got altgually like I was
- 19:44Speaker 3: going to cry. I just love the way that it
- 19:47Speaker 3: was shot and the way that it made me feel.
- 19:50Speaker 3: And I just think that is such a home run
- 19:53Speaker 3: for a director, like he wants his viewer to feel
- 19:56Speaker 3: a certain.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Way, and I felt it. It was great. That's huge,
- 20:00Speaker 2: it was great. All right, let's talk about wished for.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I have but one wish me too. Oh my god,
- 20:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna dive there the same thing.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It's definitely not okay my wish. So in the His
- 20:12Speaker 1: Merriy Wife faux movie, there's a guardian angel situation. Jack's
- 20:17Speaker 1: playing guardian Angel, and throughout this movie, my husband we
- 20:21Speaker 1: get superfan Margaret, and when Margaret and Lucy are talking,
- 20:25Speaker 1: my husband goes, that's your guardian Angel, and I was like,
- 20:29Speaker 1: wait a minute, obviously it isn't. And then there's a
- 20:33Speaker 1: scene in the past where Lucy and Jack are having
- 20:35Speaker 1: lunch and he goes, maybe he's the guardian Angel. Now,
- 20:38Speaker 1: this is a man who loves It's a wonderful life.
- 20:40Speaker 1: A movie that I'm going to admit right now that
- 20:42Speaker 1: I cannot stand.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I don't think i've ever watched it.
- 20:45Speaker 1: People think it's such a lovely, hopeful story. I find
- 20:48Speaker 1: it so depressing and hard to watch. It's not for me, okay,
- 20:53Speaker 1: But all that being said, I thought, oh, would that
- 20:57Speaker 1: have been kind of nice if there was some sort
- 20:59Speaker 1: of guardian angel situation to tie these two things together.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Isn't necessary, No, there wasn't much to wish for for me.
- 21:07Speaker 1: So if I got to have something, that's where I'm going.
- 21:09Speaker 2: What's your wish?
- 21:12Speaker 3: Before I share mine, I have to ask did your
- 21:14Speaker 3: husband like this movie?
- 21:15Speaker 2: I think he did.
- 21:16Speaker 1: But you know what, he hasn't seen the last thirty
- 21:18Speaker 1: minutes because he fell asleep. It was late as we
- 21:23Speaker 1: were watching this and I had to power through. So
- 21:25Speaker 1: we'll watch the last thirty minutes together again tonight. But
- 21:28Speaker 1: he was enjoying it.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Do you think he'll like the ending? I think he will.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I can't wait to hear. You'll have to follow up
- 21:34Speaker 3: in the next episode.
- 21:35Speaker 1: But the dude watches Back to the Future all three
- 21:38Speaker 1: movies every single year.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I know he's on board with the time travel movie.
- 21:42Speaker 2: This is jam I feel like I loved the Biltmore. Yes,
- 21:45Speaker 2: he's been to.
- 21:46Speaker 3: That property, so I feel like he'll be into it. Yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 3: I'm excited to hear what he has to say. Here
- 21:52Speaker 3: is the one thing I wish for, and it is
- 21:55Speaker 3: one of the most annoying things.
- 21:57Speaker 2: And I had nothing to do with the movie.
- 22:00Speaker 3: The freaking hallmark and built more advertisements on screen during
- 22:04Speaker 3: some really pivotal moments of this movie were a huge
- 22:09Speaker 3: distraction for me.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Did you even notice them?
- 22:12Speaker 1: He didn't notice a hallmark?
- 22:16Speaker 3: It was an advertisement, just like a banner across the
- 22:22Speaker 3: red and green striped banner blinking at me at the
- 22:25Speaker 3: bottom of the screen.
- 22:27Speaker 2: When it's like I, it.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Was taking you out of the moment totally.
- 22:32Speaker 3: You know.
- 22:32Speaker 1: This was one of the first movies where I thought,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I think the commercials are really hurting this movie. For me,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I wanted a full cinematic experience. This feels like the
- 22:45Speaker 1: most cinematic movie we've seen, not just this season, but
- 22:50Speaker 1: maybe for ever. Guaranteed ever fully co sign that would
- 22:54Speaker 1: you have liked this without commercials? A thousand percent?
- 22:58Speaker 3: Me too.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Now I'm real quick, like the second I see the
- 23:01Speaker 1: commercial coming, and I don't watch the commercials. I skip
- 23:03Speaker 1: right through them because it takes me out of the moment.
- 23:06Speaker 1: But as I could feel the first commercial coming, I
- 23:09Speaker 1: felt really disappointed because I think there's nothing we can do.
- 23:13Speaker 2: This is a ad supported network. What can we do?
- 23:16Speaker 2: But I think on.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Hallmark Movies, now, if they shuttle this movie over there quickly,
- 23:23Speaker 1: viewers are going to be in for a treat because
- 23:25Speaker 1: watching this uninterrupted, I think it would be a totally
- 23:29Speaker 1: different experience.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I would have loved if at the top they would say,
- 23:34Speaker 3: this movie is presented without commercial interruptions by the Biltmore
- 23:38Speaker 3: Estate or whatever.
- 23:39Speaker 1: You know what I mean, even for just the inaugural
- 23:42Speaker 1: showing and that all the repeats. Yeah, you can throw
- 23:44Speaker 1: in your commercial break.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I absolutely agree. Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I watched it live, so I couldn't even like fast forward,
- 23:51Speaker 3: oh little too, Yeah, yeah.
- 23:54Speaker 2: All right. I have one tiny did you see that?
- 23:58Speaker 1: Okay, go for it.
- 23:59Speaker 3: There is one scene where Lucy's running from Balaban's. She's
- 24:03Speaker 3: in the gorgeous dress, right and in one scene she's
- 24:08Speaker 3: like trying to get away, and then the next immediate
- 24:11Speaker 3: scene she has.
- 24:12Speaker 2: That stole on it. I was like, where'd you get
- 24:14Speaker 2: that from? You didn't have that in the last scene.
- 24:18Speaker 2: That's all. That's all I have. Two.
- 24:21Speaker 1: We have yet another cameo from our boy Keith Costumes.
- 24:25Speaker 1: He's a sailor huddling around Ava at the train station.
- 24:29Speaker 1: We talked about this in a Mary Scottish Christmas. He's
- 24:32Speaker 1: got a big smile on his face, just leaning ride in,
- 24:34Speaker 1: so cute in his little sailor costume.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Keith, I'm so glad you got that moment.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And I wonder when they do that, are like, hey,
- 24:42Speaker 1: we need a couple of extras, we have any volunteers,
- 24:44Speaker 1: or if he's like out there like hey, if you
- 24:46Speaker 1: need any extras, I'm your guy.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Totally. I would be that. I was to be happy too.
- 24:52Speaker 1: The other this is not so much to did you
- 24:55Speaker 1: see that? As it is a little tongue in cheek
- 24:58Speaker 1: Hallmark moment. We get Rachel Austin and Wes Brown, Yes,
- 25:02Speaker 1: their cameo in the modern day remake of His Merry Wife,
- 25:05Speaker 1: which was lovely.
- 25:06Speaker 2: We love that.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Moment and it's done in a way that if you're
- 25:11Speaker 1: not a big Hallmark fan, it doesn't take you out
- 25:13Speaker 1: of the moment at all.
- 25:14Speaker 2: It's just two actors on screen.
- 25:15Speaker 1: They joke about, Oh, I think it'll even be better
- 25:18Speaker 1: than Check into Christmas, which is a.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Movie that they star in together.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Oh incidentally, when I looked up that movie, That movie
- 25:25Speaker 1: stars Richard Karn who played Al on Home Improvement, who
- 25:31Speaker 1: has been in several Christmas movies both for the Hallmark
- 25:35Speaker 1: Channel and other networks, and more than one Christmas movie
- 25:38Speaker 1: with Wes Brown.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Isn't that a weird connection? Totally? And now have you
- 25:42Speaker 2: seen that movie?
- 25:44Speaker 1: I have not seen that movie. Shall we add it
- 25:47Speaker 1: to our cow?
- 25:48Speaker 3: Hi? Should?
- 25:50Speaker 2: I absolutely think we should put it on the list.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Okay, let's rate it.
- 25:55Speaker 3: It's a five star movie for me, for me too,
- 25:58Speaker 3: five the stars.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I don't know how anything tops it.
- 26:02Speaker 3: No. No. And it's really hard because we were talking
- 26:06Speaker 3: about this in a different episode, you and I. It's
- 26:08Speaker 3: unfair to pit these movies against each other because they're
- 26:12Speaker 3: so special in their own way. Like A Built More
- 26:17Speaker 3: Christmas is totally different than Mystic Christmas, but I liked both,
- 26:22Speaker 3: and different from Haul at the Holly and different from
- 26:25Speaker 3: The Santa Summit. It's gonna be interesting listeners. We are
- 26:28Speaker 3: gonna be launching our annual Countdown to Christmas Best Movie
- 26:34Speaker 3: bracket right after New Year's Day, so you're gonna have
- 26:39Speaker 3: to weigh in on your favorite movie. Is this gonna
- 26:42Speaker 3: be the runaway of the season.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 26:45Speaker 3: It's always a weird shake up. Who knows what's gonna happen?
- 26:48Speaker 3: What was the winner last year? It was Three Wise
- 26:51Speaker 3: Men and a Baby, of course, but we were surprised
- 26:55Speaker 3: because in Mary Measure was really up there and that
- 27:00Speaker 3: was kind of like a sleeper hit.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, those fans activate and those movies get a second
- 27:06Speaker 1: life exactly. Thank you for listening to this episode of
