Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: On today's show, we'll tell you why Trey Lance just
- 0:03Speaker 1: said something that should make every Cowboys fan sick to
- 0:06Speaker 1: their stomach.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Let's go wild the intro.
- 0:13Speaker 3: All right, yo yo, yooo your life from Billy.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's the number one rated Polly and Tony Fosco show.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Yo yo yo.
- 0:24Speaker 1: As Polly Forsco here with Tony Forsco and Tony Yo
- 0:29Speaker 1: huge show today. But first you some important show related
- 0:34Speaker 1: to business. You know, last week we announced the grand
- 0:37Speaker 1: opening of the official Fusco merch store and Tony the
- 0:41Speaker 1: demopub has been so off the chine. You know, we
- 0:44Speaker 1: were told the factory workers have been working NonStop twenty
- 0:49Speaker 1: four to seven.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I believe this all these orders.
- 0:52Speaker 1: In fact, this has led to several labor violations. But
- 0:57Speaker 1: what we've been told is government officials have a fuels
- 1:00Speaker 1: to intervene because they want their T shirts, mugs, and
- 1:03Speaker 1: hats and mouse pads delivered as fast as possible to them.
- 1:07Speaker 1: So of course you know we get it. So just
- 1:09Speaker 1: if you know it's going to be a delay, but
- 1:11Speaker 1: just click the little worry, it's coming right now. And
- 1:14Speaker 1: what's this They get the twenty percent off two or
- 1:18Speaker 1: more items. That's the Wow there you go, lucky you. Anyway,
- 1:22Speaker 1: as we said, huge show today. You know, first we
- 1:25Speaker 1: got to bone the pick with Wikipedia. We'll get into that. Also,
- 1:28Speaker 1: this bizarre story at a RAMS camp and unfortunately our
- 1:31Speaker 1: guest today.
- 1:32Speaker 2: You know, our.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Partners at Fox Sports Radio, they asked us to promote
- 1:36Speaker 1: his like begged us, you know, because we're big stars
- 1:40Speaker 1: at the network.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Help out. The little pequars comes with the territory.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Anyway, he's the host of The Odd Couple on Fox
- 1:47Speaker 1: Sports Radio, Rob Parker And uh, you know we heard
- 1:50Speaker 1: he's teaching now at USC He's teaching sports.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah, well, let's see if he passed the test today.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Let's see how he does.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That's right, And speaking of pass we don't want to
- 2:01Speaker 1: pass over this important word from our good friends at
- 2:05Speaker 1: Southwest Airlines. Do you like comfort when you fly? Why
- 2:12Speaker 1: stop being such a fucking prima donna.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 4: You know the other day, my aunt Marie and her
- 2:18Speaker 4: boyfriend Nunzio got back from a flight to Orlando on
- 2:21Speaker 4: Southwest Airlines and I asked Nunzio if the flight was comfortable.
- 2:26Speaker 4: He said, it felt great, but the space was a
- 2:30Speaker 4: little too small for two people. And I said, what
- 2:33Speaker 4: do you mean, too small your seats? And he said, no,
- 2:37Speaker 4: the bathroom. And then I thought, actually, let's just move on. Yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 4: we'll hear about that story later.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Anyway, Book a flight today at Southwest dot com. Use
- 2:46Speaker 1: the promo code FUSCO Show and get twenty percent off
- 2:50Speaker 1: any flight inside the continental United States between the hours
- 2:53Speaker 1: of three and four in the morning Southwest. All right,
- 2:56Speaker 1: now that we got all that business out of the way, Tony,
- 2:59Speaker 1: it's die to get into a top story story, all right.
- 3:05Speaker 3: First out the gate, of course, the Cowboys, finally taking
- 3:09Speaker 3: the first step to recovery and admitting that Dak Prescott
- 3:13Speaker 3: is not the future of their organization, they made a
- 3:16Speaker 3: big trade for forty nine ers backup quarterback Trey Lance,
- 3:20Speaker 3: who many people say has been.
- 3:22Speaker 2: A total bust. But that's not fair at all, right, Tony, No,
- 3:26Speaker 2: not at all.
- 3:27Speaker 4: You see, the problem here is that the forty nine
- 3:30Speaker 4: Ers surrounded Trey Lance with too many good players. That
- 3:35Speaker 4: was unfair to Trey. It made him look bad. It's
- 3:39Speaker 4: so much more fair to put him on a team
- 3:41Speaker 4: like the Cowboys, where he can be surrounded with other
- 3:45Speaker 4: fellow players.
- 3:47Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:47Speaker 4: It reminds me of when Billy Joel was married to
- 3:50Speaker 4: Christy Brinkley, and everyone was like, oh, but he's so ugly.
- 3:55Speaker 4: But then now you look at Billy Joel and you think, oh,
- 3:58Speaker 4: he's only kind of.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Terrifically said Dony, and you thank you Trey Lance.
- 4:04Speaker 2: You know, he's also barely played.
- 4:06Speaker 1: He's got as much experience with football as our producer
- 4:09Speaker 1: has with women, and you.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe even a little more. Yeah, yeah, true. You know,
- 4:14Speaker 2: there are good signs here for Trey Lance.
- 4:16Speaker 1: You know a lot of people that like to focus
- 4:18Speaker 1: on useless things like stats, but you have to go deeper,
- 4:22Speaker 1: isn't that right, DONI.
- 4:24Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 4:25Speaker 4: You have to look at history too, or what we
- 4:28Speaker 4: call patterns. And when you do that, you'll clearly see
- 4:32Speaker 4: that the only two quarterbacks to succeed in Dallas this
- 4:36Speaker 4: century have four letter first names that start with T
- 4:41Speaker 4: and end and why Troy and Tony and now they
- 4:47Speaker 4: have Trey, which also follows the proven pattern of success.
- 4:51Speaker 2: So as you can see.
- 4:53Speaker 1: This is a perfect fit, just tremendous historical perspective that
- 4:59Speaker 1: Dony and you know, even if we did, all right,
- 5:01Speaker 1: go ahead and look at Trey Lance's stats. You know,
- 5:04Speaker 1: people say he quote unquote sucks because he's only completed
- 5:07Speaker 1: fifty five.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Percent of his passes.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Well, who also completed only around.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Fifty percent of their passes?
- 5:14Speaker 1: A man named Terry Bradshaw, like about a man named
- 5:19Speaker 1: Joe Namath, and what Trent Dilfer who.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Led the Ravens to a Super Bowl?
- 5:25Speaker 1: You know, Tony, it's just so sad today how people
- 5:29Speaker 1: ignore history.
- 5:31Speaker 2: It's pathetic. They should be ashamed. Absolutely.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Now, you know, all isn't rosy in this trade at Tony.
- 5:37Speaker 1: You know, there are reasons for the Cowboy fans to
- 5:40Speaker 1: be concerned.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:41Speaker 1: In his first pressa with the team, Trey Lance said
- 5:44Speaker 1: about Dak, quote, I'm just trying to learn everything I
- 5:49Speaker 1: possibly can from him and Tony.
- 5:52Speaker 2: This spells danger for the Cowboys, doesn't it? Yeah?
- 5:56Speaker 4: Absolutely? I mean that's not enough of a plan there
- 5:59Speaker 4: for Trey. He said he wants to learn everything Dak
- 6:03Speaker 4: knows about football. Okay, but that should only take maybe
- 6:07Speaker 4: three or four hours tops, and you probably want to
- 6:10Speaker 4: forget about ninety percent of that anyway.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Great point, Dony and Dinny.
- 6:14Speaker 1: You know there was thank you one positive out of
- 6:17Speaker 1: Trey Lance's press that we don't want to overlook. You know,
- 6:19Speaker 1: he talked about how he's approaching this new opportunity with Dallas,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and he told the reporters quote, I'm not looking forward.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I'm just looking to take it one day at a time.
- 6:31Speaker 1: And this is what you like to see out of
- 6:33Speaker 1: a QB.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Isn't that right? Dony?
- 6:35Speaker 4: Absolutely, Sometimes young players try to take it two days
- 6:40Speaker 4: at a time or seven days at a time, and
- 6:43Speaker 4: that's too many days at a time when you look
- 6:46Speaker 4: at it, one day is the perfect amount of time
- 6:49Speaker 4: to take things.
- 6:51Speaker 2: So good sign. There. Couldn't agree more, Dony.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And now, staying on the subject of NFC quarterbacks, you know,
- 6:58Speaker 1: we have a little bone to pick with Wikipedia. You know,
- 7:02Speaker 1: we were on the Wikipedia page, but Jalen hurts, you know,
- 7:05Speaker 1: just checking around making sure everything's kosher, you know, yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and checking on the top of the page, we saw
- 7:12Speaker 1: something so disturbing.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, this is trupe people. You can go look. There's
- 7:15Speaker 2: this message that says, read this.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Not to be confused with Jalen heard. Who the fuck
- 7:23Speaker 1: is Jalen heard?
- 7:26Speaker 2: No freking idea.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yeah, well we clicked on it just to see, you
- 7:29Speaker 1: know who this Jalen heard with the d was apparently
- 7:33Speaker 1: he was a wide receiver for the forty nine ers
- 7:35Speaker 1: for three seasons who spent his whole career on injured
- 7:38Speaker 1: reserve before retiring.
- 7:40Speaker 2: What the fuck?
- 7:41Speaker 1: Who theck is confusing Jalen heard with the guy going
- 7:46Speaker 1: to Super Bowls?
- 7:47Speaker 4: Yeah, this is like if you searched for Megan Fox
- 7:50Speaker 4: and then it said not to be confused with Michael J.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Fox. Well, nobody's making that mistake, trust me.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Great point, Tony, and let's just move on, you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: to a very strange report out of Los Angeles ESPN
- 8:06Speaker 1: reporting that Ram's veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford is having a
- 8:10Speaker 1: quote trouble connecting with the younger players on his team.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Saw that, Yeah, but that's not the most concerning part
- 8:16Speaker 1: of the story people. You see, the information came from
- 8:20Speaker 1: a podcast The Morning After, which is hosted by Matthew
- 8:25Speaker 1: Stafford's wife, Kelly Stafford. So what's most concerning here is
- 8:30Speaker 1: who the hell is listening to Kelly Stafford's podcast? And
- 8:34Speaker 1: why does Kelly Stafford have a podcast? I mean not
- 8:38Speaker 1: they'll be you know, offensive here, but not everyone has
- 8:41Speaker 1: to have a podcast.
- 8:42Speaker 2: It's out of control.
- 8:44Speaker 4: They're just given podcasts to anyone who wants to talk
- 8:46Speaker 4: sports these days, no matter how far they are removed
- 8:50Speaker 4: from the field or no offense, no matter how little
- 8:53Speaker 4: they know about the game. Frankly, it's a slap in
- 8:57Speaker 4: the wrist to anyone out there who's doing quotality sports talk.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, Tony, it's pathetic.
- 9:03Speaker 1: You know what we need to do is we need
- 9:05Speaker 1: to start limiting the amount of sports podcasts.
- 9:08Speaker 2: When you think there you go, there should only be
- 9:10Speaker 2: like three maybe three the most exactly, just terrible. What's
- 9:15Speaker 2: going on here? Horrible? Well, anyway, on.
- 9:18Speaker 1: The subject of the people who shouldn't be doing sports talk,
- 9:21Speaker 1: natural segue that Tony.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's our guest.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I see our guests coming on the line there,
- 9:26Speaker 1: So let's bring him on the full SCO satellite.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Network, Satellite the world. All right.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He's the host of Fox Sports Radio's The Odd Couple.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Now get this, he's also teaching sports talk as some
- 9:41Speaker 1: sort of professor at you and kindergarten. Yeah, so no,
- 9:45Speaker 1: apparently these are grown adults. So pleads to our first question,
- 9:49Speaker 1: what the can you possibly be teaching these kids?
- 9:52Speaker 2: Poor kids?
- 9:53Speaker 5: Are you kidding?
- 9:54Speaker 6: I'm a guy who's been doing this for decades.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Now, I have.
- 9:58Speaker 2: You're totally out of touch, but okay, yeah, you've been
- 10:01Speaker 2: duping people for decades.
- 10:03Speaker 6: What I have knowledge, I have information. I'm what the
- 10:07Speaker 6: kids you know, I'm hip, I'm alive. It's what the
- 10:09Speaker 6: kids are looking for.
- 10:10Speaker 2: I'm that god man.
- 10:12Speaker 1: They'd basically I'd be running out of the class room
- 10:14Speaker 1: if I was giving us an example. We want an example,
- 10:17Speaker 1: some free education. Yeah, what are you teaching taking?
- 10:20Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 10:21Speaker 2: Like give us a lesson, plase.
- 10:22Speaker 5: How to do a good podcast? What you want to do?
- 10:25Speaker 6: And I don't know if you guys take you need
- 10:27Speaker 6: to maybe take this class to help your podcast.
- 10:30Speaker 2: We got a PhD in podcast? What do you teach
- 10:34Speaker 2: them though? Like, what's a lesson? Give me a lesson?
- 10:36Speaker 6: Here's a lesson. What you want to do when you're
- 10:38Speaker 6: doing these shows? Is you want to be fun and informative.
- 10:43Speaker 5: It's good. You gotta be fun if.
- 10:45Speaker 2: You know about being informative? Nothing. What people are paying
- 10:49Speaker 2: for this? I't sue you yet?
- 10:53Speaker 6: Uh No, I have not been sue what do you
- 10:55Speaker 6: think this is? Trump University?
- 10:56Speaker 3: No?
- 10:57Speaker 5: I have not been se that.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Is a privileged institution.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Helped at least four people exactly, But there's one quick.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Question for you.
- 11:04Speaker 1: You know you're telling these kids to get in the
- 11:06Speaker 1: sports talk. You know, Tony and I were talking earlier
- 11:09Speaker 1: in the show. There are already way too many sports podcasts, Rob,
- 11:12Speaker 1: who needs that? Don't you think we should start limited
- 11:15Speaker 1: in the number to like, you know, three, No.
- 11:18Speaker 5: There shouldn't be a limit. I mean people will weed
- 11:21Speaker 5: out the bad ones.
- 11:22Speaker 6: What they do is the people who love the good
- 11:24Speaker 6: ones if you have good content.
- 11:26Speaker 5: This is a free market side.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Which I can figure out why you're still employed based on.
- 11:31Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly, it's only been thirty seven years I've been
- 11:35Speaker 6: doing this type of sports media.
- 11:38Speaker 2: People just must have left the radio on and forgot
- 11:40Speaker 2: to turn it off for something. Yeah, exactly, here we go.
- 11:43Speaker 1: All right, let's for yeah, I professor, let's get into it.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Let's talk about Trey Lance. Obviously, you know, traded from
- 11:48Speaker 1: the forty nine ers to the Cowboys. You know a
- 11:51Speaker 1: lot of people are saying, you know, Trey Lance is
- 11:53Speaker 1: a bust, but that's not fair. You know, it's clearly
- 11:55Speaker 1: because the forty nine ers, Yeah, they were too good
- 11:59Speaker 1: at tea. They made him look bad. See what he
- 12:02Speaker 1: needed to be He needed to be on a team
- 12:04Speaker 1: with players right. Don't you think that's why the Cowboys
- 12:08Speaker 1: are a better fit because they're so shitty?
- 12:12Speaker 5: You know what, I think Trey Lance didn't even get
- 12:14Speaker 5: a real fair shot. I don't know. I mean, what
- 12:17Speaker 5: did he do? We played five games?
- 12:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean the forty nine ers they have good players,
- 12:23Speaker 6: we know that, and the Cowboys, we know aren't as good.
- 12:26Speaker 6: They haven't been what if they haven't been the NFC
- 12:28Speaker 6: Championship game since nineteen ninety five. Yeah, they've been awful
- 12:32Speaker 6: because Jerry Jones is running the organization like a mom
- 12:36Speaker 6: and pop store. That's why the Eagles are popular or
- 12:39Speaker 6: good because they're in a division with a bad team
- 12:41Speaker 6: like the.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Cow Oh yeah, I see.
- 12:43Speaker 4: He was on the right track and then he went
- 12:46Speaker 4: off the rails at the end day you were like
- 12:48Speaker 4: seventy there.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Don't you think Trey Lance?
- 12:51Speaker 1: You know, people are saying he's a bust, right because
- 12:54Speaker 1: he only completed fifty five percent of his passes. But
- 12:57Speaker 1: you know you're old enough to remember Terry Brada fifty
- 13:01Speaker 1: two percent, Joe Namath barely fifty percent. You know, Trent Dilfer,
- 13:06Speaker 1: he barely cool. Come he didn't even complete one pass.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Don't you think people are focusing too much on these
- 13:11Speaker 1: useless stats.
- 13:13Speaker 5: Yes, it is too many useless stats.
- 13:15Speaker 6: All the stat geeks with the pocket pen protectors and
- 13:19Speaker 6: all these guys who have never even played ball, or
- 13:22Speaker 6: the guys.
- 13:22Speaker 5: That these owners have now hired. I agree.
- 13:25Speaker 6: Finally we agree on something. Enough with all the geeks.
- 13:29Speaker 6: It's about winning. It's about getting the job.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Dog. Yeah, let's be fair. He played five games in
- 13:37Speaker 5: the NFL. That's a cup of coffee in a sweet role.
- 13:40Speaker 5: In the real world, that's nothing.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah. See, you know this is all right, This is good.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I like you.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I hope you'll teach your kids this at the schools.
- 13:48Speaker 1: You know, don't focus on the stats like a nerd.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Just talk from your gut. Okay, you know, Tony, tell
- 13:53Speaker 1: him the other take you had about why Trey Lance
- 13:56Speaker 1: is going to be a success in Dallas.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Listen to this, professor.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you gotta he thinks differently here, professor, think about it.
- 14:03Speaker 4: The only good Cowboys quarterbacks this century had four letter
- 14:08Speaker 4: first names that start with T and and with why, Troy, Tony,
- 14:15Speaker 4: and now Trey. Don't you think that shows that Trey,
- 14:20Speaker 4: rather than Dak is a betefit in Dallas?
- 14:23Speaker 2: So smart.
- 14:24Speaker 6: Is that what you're basing it on the first name
- 14:26Speaker 6: of a quarterback? Are we serious?
- 14:28Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, patterns is upset.
- 14:32Speaker 5: It's just a coincidence.
- 14:34Speaker 6: And Kowinkie Dake, you don't have anything to do with
- 14:36Speaker 6: whether or not he's gonna be successful in Dallas.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Mister didn't start off yeah right, but he wound up
- 14:43Speaker 5: being great.
- 14:45Speaker 6: Uh, Tony couldn't hold down an extra point and win
- 14:49Speaker 6: a playoff game, So I don't know about how successful
- 14:52Speaker 6: he was in Dallas.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You know he's at Tony.
- 14:55Speaker 1: He's jealous that he is because he doesn't see the
- 14:59Speaker 1: patterns watching this and realizing that they were never taught
- 15:03Speaker 1: how you do journalism here.
- 15:04Speaker 5: No, you're telling me that.
- 15:05Speaker 6: If you're telling me that if Tony, if tiny Tim
- 15:09Speaker 6: played for the team, you would include him as well.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Well, No, because tiny isn't his first name. Tim was
- 15:14Speaker 1: his first name. So you don't care if you don't
- 15:17Speaker 1: see the padre not listening, Yeah, processing.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Rob process this here. Look at the Eagles.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Their last three quarterbacks have all had five letter last
- 15:27Speaker 4: names that are one syllable, went Folds, hurts, and look
- 15:33Speaker 4: at the results. They all got to Super Bowls, Super Bowls, Oh, and.
- 15:40Speaker 5: That is the reason why.
- 15:41Speaker 6: It's not about the receivers or a running game, or
- 15:43Speaker 6: the defense or quarterback play.
- 15:46Speaker 5: It's about wordplay and names. Is that what we are?
- 15:49Speaker 2: He just can't. He can't. We're blowing his mind. He
- 15:53Speaker 2: can't wrap his head around it. That's probably this is
- 15:56Speaker 2: too much.
- 15:56Speaker 5: This is troubling.
- 15:57Speaker 2: If I'm the USC, this is where he troubling.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Get it, Tony, I get it, Tony. You want to
- 16:02Speaker 1: talk more x's and o's and show off your knowalogy.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Okay, we'll do We can do that too. Here you go.
- 16:06Speaker 2: All right.
- 16:07Speaker 1: You know, the other day it was NFL cut day,
- 16:09Speaker 1: a lot of big moves, rob a lot of headlines.
- 16:12Speaker 1: So we're gonna go down the list and get your
- 16:14Speaker 1: opinion on several of these key moves. So let's just
- 16:16Speaker 1: dive right in here. First, big news out of Pittsburgh,
- 16:19Speaker 1: as I'm sure you saw, tight end Zach Gentry released
- 16:24Speaker 1: by the Steelers.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Your thoughts, Oh, go ahead, what okay? What happened?
- 16:33Speaker 2: I said, what what just happened? There is?
- 16:36Speaker 1: Are we on with Mitch McConnell. Hold on, hey, look,
- 16:41Speaker 1: big mules out of Pittsburgh. Okay, we know you're getting
- 16:43Speaker 1: up there. We'll try again. Big news out of Pittsburgh.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Tight end Zach Gentry released by the Steelers.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Okay, what is that supposed to mean? Does that means
