- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch, to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: the little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:32Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:34Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:35Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other. The backyard, to dig
- 0:38Speaker 1: into the dirt, our mission to uncover the truth, to
- 0:41Speaker 1: confront the myth, to reclaim the story. Of this bonus episode. Guys,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we are discussing the Tila Tequila rumor regarding our new
- 0:47Speaker 1: friend Billy Corgan. And speaking of friends, we're getting into
- 0:50Speaker 1: friend of the pod Low Connie's performance on the Jimmy
- 0:53Speaker 1: Kimmel Show this week, and we get into your emails, comments, dms,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and as always a whole lot of rosie. This is
- 0:59Speaker 1: the pot for the musically obsessed, the outsiders, the independent
- 1:02Speaker 1: thinkers who know that the best history is the history
- 1:04Speaker 1: that gets buried. Disgrace Lands, where I tell the stories
- 1:07Speaker 1: they didn't want told, the kind you'll end up telling
- 1:09Speaker 1: someone else. All Right, disc goes let's get into it,
- 1:24Speaker 1: all right, guys. In this week's Disgrace Land episode on
- 1:27Speaker 1: Smashing Pumpkins, we get into Billy Corgan's claim that at
- 1:32Speaker 1: one point he was with a woman in bed and
- 1:34Speaker 1: he saw that woman shape shift into another being. Now,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I know this is insane. It's the type of ludicrous
- 1:44Speaker 1: story that we really don't get into here in Disgrace Them,
- 1:47Speaker 1: but we talked about it this week in the Billy
- 1:49Speaker 1: Corgan Smashing Pumpkins episode, because I'm interested in why Billy
- 1:54Speaker 1: Corgan would publicly make a claim like this, as he
- 1:57Speaker 1: did twice on the Howard Stern Show. So I'm more
- 2:00Speaker 1: interested in the reason why he would say something like
- 2:03Speaker 1: this than I am interested in whether or not I
- 2:06Speaker 1: think this actually happened. For the record, I do not
- 2:09Speaker 1: believe that this happened. I don't believe that shape shifters exist.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I believe in a lot of crazy shit, but shape
- 2:17Speaker 1: shape shifters, excuse me, are It's not just I don't
- 2:20Speaker 1: believe in them, Okay, but there are plenty of people
- 2:23Speaker 1: who do. And you know whatever, go ahead, believe believe
- 2:26Speaker 1: what you want to believe. It turns out that people
- 2:29Speaker 1: on the Internet who do believe in shape shifters. Some
- 2:32Speaker 1: of them also believe in a lot of wackadu conspiracy theories,
- 2:36Speaker 1: conspiracy theories that are often centered around music industry celebrities
- 2:40Speaker 1: and Hollywood types media elites who are caught up in
- 2:43Speaker 1: all kinds of evil doings. I'm talking specifically about what
- 2:49Speaker 1: is known as the Ball theory, be a apostrophe, a
- 2:54Speaker 1: l The theory of Ball is a super viral conspiracy theory
- 3:00Speaker 1: entertained by I don't want to say serious people, more
- 3:04Speaker 1: like want to be Alex Jones types. And I do, however,
- 3:08Speaker 1: want to point out that regular people on the Internet,
- 3:11Speaker 1: some of them, anyways, I guess, who are bored, who
- 3:14Speaker 1: are not very curious, perhaps gullible, or some combination of
- 3:19Speaker 1: everything that I just mentioned. These folks, some of them
- 3:23Speaker 1: do believe in this theory. I've seen it. I read
- 3:25Speaker 1: the comments. Okay, and the theory of Ball proponents believe,
- 3:31Speaker 1: as the theory goes, that rock stars, Hollywood celebrities, in
- 3:36Speaker 1: media elites worship a false deity named Ball, and that
- 3:41Speaker 1: they make blood sacrifices in exchange for their fame. Blah
- 3:44Speaker 1: blah blah. I get it. Okay, So, in other words,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein wasn't just a pedo he worshiped Ball. Sean
- 3:50Speaker 1: Didy Combs wasn't just an abusive sex free key worship ball.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Chrissy Tigan is not just a shitty bully. She worships
- 3:58Speaker 1: Ball and Billy Kor didn't just see a person shape
- 4:02Speaker 1: shift into another being? He did so while ceremonially worshiping Ball.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Here's my problem with these theories. Aside from the obvious,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I guess this is my problem with the world that
- 4:15Speaker 1: we live in right now. Can it be enough that
- 4:18Speaker 1: Jeffrey Epstein is just a proven pedophile, or that Sean
- 4:22Speaker 1: Diddy Comb's is a convicted abusive sex freak. Can it
- 4:27Speaker 1: be enough that there are online receipts proving Chrissy Tagan's
- 4:31Speaker 1: deplorable behavior, and that Billy Corgan one of the biggest
- 4:35Speaker 1: rock stars of the nineties, a figure still very much
- 4:37Speaker 1: in the culture. Can it be enough that he claims
- 4:40Speaker 1: he saw a human shape shift into another being. I mean,
- 4:44Speaker 1: that's pretty fucked up in and of itself. No, why
- 4:48Speaker 1: do we have to take it to this other place?
- 4:52Speaker 1: I ask because when we posted on Instagram this week
- 4:55Speaker 1: our preview of the Billy corgan story, a bunch of
- 4:59Speaker 1: people chimed in the Billy had already revealed that the
- 5:01Speaker 1: person that he saw shape shift was reality TV star
- 5:05Speaker 1: Tila Tequila, which Billy Corgan absolutely did not do. Okay,
- 5:12Speaker 1: He has never claimed that Tila Tequila is the woman
- 5:18Speaker 1: that he claims he saw shape shift to do another
- 5:20Speaker 1: being naturally. When I saw these comments at I wanted
- 5:29Speaker 1: to know what the fuck was. I was like, do
- 5:31Speaker 1: we miss something? What's going on? People are so certain
- 5:35Speaker 1: he already revealed it was Tila Tequila. It's Tila Tequila.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Dumbass anyways, Uh you know, so I go online, I
- 5:42Speaker 1: try to dig into this admittedly absurd claim, and I
- 5:46Speaker 1: get sucked into this fucking world of ball. Okay, quick
- 5:50Speaker 1: side note, By the way, the best most entertaining example
- 5:52Speaker 1: of the ball theory in this occult God's influence on
- 5:55Speaker 1: celebrities is the Anderson Cooper photo where he's seated on
- 5:59Speaker 1: his bed as a child with his mother, the heiress
- 6:02Speaker 1: Gloria Vanderbilt, in front of a piece of art on
- 6:05Speaker 1: the wall the conspiracy theorists claim depicts a ball blood
- 6:09Speaker 1: ritual sacrifice. You can look this up. The ball theorists
- 6:12Speaker 1: are onto something here, as crazy as it is, because
- 6:16Speaker 1: the artwork in the photo is fucked up. Whatever it is,
- 6:19Speaker 1: it is certainly too fucked up to be hanging in
- 6:21Speaker 1: a child's bedroom. But maybe Gloria Vanderbilt just had some
- 6:24Speaker 1: weird taste in art or whatever. I'm not judging, okay,
- 6:27Speaker 1: and I'm also not saying that Anderson Cooper is part
- 6:30Speaker 1: of this whole fucking ball ritual blood sacrifice cult. Okay.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Back to Billy Corgan and Tila Tequila. Billy Corgan never
- 6:37Speaker 1: admitted the shape shifter was Tila Tequila. Okay, file this
- 6:40Speaker 1: under people. They just hear a snippet of information online
- 6:43Speaker 1: and they take it as truth. He already said it
- 6:45Speaker 1: was Tillo Tequila, and now we didn't. He did not
- 6:47Speaker 1: say that. There is online discourse that does claim Tila Tequila,
- 6:51Speaker 1: who once kind of sort of dated Billy Corgan, was
- 6:55Speaker 1: the shape shifter. But if you dig through the ball
- 6:58Speaker 1: nonsense connected to this claim, you'll quickly find the source
- 7:03Speaker 1: of this Tila Tequila claim that she was the shape
- 7:07Speaker 1: shifter of Billy Corgan's You'll find the source that says that.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And the source is you ready for it. There is
- 7:15Speaker 1: no source there's a dude in a fucking Twitch gamer
- 7:19Speaker 1: studio or whatever on the Rumble app with an unsourced
- 7:22Speaker 1: letter from an anonymous Chicago musician who, I shit, you
- 7:25Speaker 1: not know someone who heard something from someone who says
- 7:29Speaker 1: Billy Corgan told them the shape shifter was Tila Tequila.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It's fucking dumb, my brain. I'm dumber for even saying
- 7:36Speaker 1: these words right now. I can't believe I'm talking about it.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So why am I talking about it? Right Well? I
- 7:43Speaker 1: wanted to talk about, like I said, I wanted to
- 7:44Speaker 1: talk about why, why Billy Corgan would make this claim?
- 7:47Speaker 1: That's interesting to me. I like Billy Corgan. Sure he
- 7:50Speaker 1: says a lot of provocative things, but he's thoughtful and
- 7:52Speaker 1: he's a provocateur, and we need that in our culture. Safe,
- 7:56Speaker 1: carefully spoken rock stars are boring rock stars, and we
- 7:59Speaker 1: have enough of those. And I think Billy Corgan either
- 8:02Speaker 1: thinks he saw a shape shifter or he hallucinated and
- 8:05Speaker 1: is convinced that he saw a shape shifter. And yeah,
- 8:08Speaker 1: it might even be Tila Tequila. I mean it makes sense.
- 8:10Speaker 1: She looks like a fucking lizard anyways, and her opinions
- 8:13Speaker 1: are certainly subhuman. But Billy Corgan never claimed it was
- 8:17Speaker 1: Tila Tequila. He already said it was Deal tequila. You
- 8:20Speaker 1: don't know what the fuck you're talking about. There's no
- 8:22Speaker 1: proof anywhere that supports this, and this is just another example,
- 8:25Speaker 1: much like the allegations against John Fruchiante from last week
- 8:29Speaker 1: pertaining to Ruver Phoenix. This's another example of that where
- 8:32Speaker 1: people just very online, people just accept things without proof,
- 8:35Speaker 1: without sources. I wrote in my notes, I don't know
- 8:38Speaker 1: why this bothers me so much, but I do know
- 8:40Speaker 1: why it bothers me. Now you can say this is dumb,
- 8:43Speaker 1: this is stupid. I shouldn't even be breathing air into
- 8:47Speaker 1: these theories, these conversations, shouldn't be having them, but I
- 8:50Speaker 1: do think it's important to talk about. And the reason
- 8:53Speaker 1: that this bothers me so much is because I believe
- 8:55Speaker 1: in the truth. When I say that, I'm talking about
- 8:57Speaker 1: the truth in music history specifically, and lately, the more
- 9:01Speaker 1: I look around the internet, particularly on YouTube or in
- 9:04Speaker 1: the comments sections on in our Instagram, you know, and
- 9:08Speaker 1: this is why Instagram works. With a side note, right nowadays, Instagram,
- 9:11Speaker 1: it most of it doesn't go out to you guys,
- 9:14Speaker 1: the followers who follow me on Instagram. When I post something,
- 9:17Speaker 1: it goes to non followers and people who just fucking
- 9:21Speaker 1: jump in the comments and say dumb shit and I
- 9:24Speaker 1: know don't read the comments. Well, I'm discouraged because I
- 9:28Speaker 1: feel like as a society we are quickly losing our
- 9:32Speaker 1: grip on the truth. We are quickly losing our grip
- 9:36Speaker 1: on what's real, on what actually happened, and the Internet,
- 9:42Speaker 1: more and more is filled with bullshit. YouTube is a
- 9:45Speaker 1: perfect example, the music history videos on YouTube, with these
- 9:50Speaker 1: insanely sensationalized claims, these fucking wackado, cheesy thumbnails and titles
- 9:57Speaker 1: of the videos. Very little of it is backed by
- 10:01Speaker 1: actual research and actual truth. And some of these videos
- 10:05Speaker 1: rack up gazillions of views. And this is why I care,
- 10:10Speaker 1: because sooner or later, the bullshit is going to outbalance
- 10:15Speaker 1: the actual history, and sooner or later, when that happens,
- 10:19Speaker 1: the AI overlords are not going to be able to
- 10:22Speaker 1: discern between what actually happened versus what the most viral
- 10:27Speaker 1: video on the Internet says happened. And when that takes place,
- 10:32Speaker 1: we're all fucked. Okay, I'm interested in the real music
- 10:37Speaker 1: history because real music history is already crazy enough it's
- 10:40Speaker 1: wild that Billy Corgan actually said he saw a fucking
- 10:45Speaker 1: shape shifter. That is crazy enough. People. The point of
- 10:48Speaker 1: the show, the point of what I've been doing for
- 10:50Speaker 1: the last few years, is that what rock stars do,
- 10:52Speaker 1: what rockstars say. Okay, what actually happened in music history.
- 10:56Speaker 1: These stories are crazy enough, They're endlessly compelling. We don't
- 10:59Speaker 1: need to take everything to the nth degree and start
- 11:02Speaker 1: inventing stories and conspiracies that did not take place. Tila
- 11:05Speaker 1: Tequila and some ball a cult sex sacrifice. I've spent
- 11:11Speaker 1: this whole podcast so far talking about this bullshit, and
- 11:14Speaker 1: I haven't yet once mentioned the actual, real, batshit crazy
- 11:18Speaker 1: things that Tila Tequila has said. And I'm not going
- 11:22Speaker 1: to to prove my point, to prove that all this shitty,
- 11:25Speaker 1: sensationalized storytelling is a drag on the truth. We should
- 11:28Speaker 1: be talking about why Billy Corgan would associate himself with
- 11:32Speaker 1: someone who once said Hitler was a quote man of compassion.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But we're not. Again, We're talking about fucking ball Okay.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Part of the reason I think Billy Corgan has said
- 11:44Speaker 1: these things, has said this in particular, is because, like
- 11:47Speaker 1: I said earlier, he's a provocateur, but he's also a
- 11:50Speaker 1: student of music history himself, and he understands that throughout
- 11:54Speaker 1: music history, musicians have made outrageous claims like John Lennon
- 12:00Speaker 1: in the UFO, like Ozzy Osbourne in the Leprechauns. Okay,
- 12:05Speaker 1: he gets this, He understands, and he knows that as
- 12:09Speaker 1: a rock star, it's part of the gig in a
- 12:12Speaker 1: lot of ways, okay, and it's what differentiates him. And
- 12:15Speaker 1: like I said, he may actually believe he saw that.
- 12:18Speaker 1: People do a lot of fucked up shit. They take
- 12:20Speaker 1: a lot of drugs, and they see things. Fuck, man,
- 12:23Speaker 1: I've seen things. Okay, never seen a leprechaun or a
- 12:28Speaker 1: fucking shape shifter, but I've seen things that I go,
- 12:30Speaker 1: whoa wait, what the fuck was that? Differences? I can't
- 12:34Speaker 1: go on Howard Stern yet and talk about this stuff.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He can't, and he does, and I'm I'm glad he does,
- 12:39Speaker 1: but I want to know why he does. That's the
- 12:42Speaker 1: interesting part, the motivation. Anyways, like I said, he knows
- 12:46Speaker 1: lots of rock stars have made claims like this that
- 12:48Speaker 1: and are going to unpack a bunch more of them
- 12:50Speaker 1: in the exclusive section of this Year After Party Bonus episode.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Go to Disgrace onpod dot com to sign up to
- 12:56Speaker 1: get in on that conversation plus more exclusive content and
- 12:59Speaker 1: ad free listening to Grace lampod dot com. All right,
- 13:03Speaker 1: got carried away there, I gotta calm down. Hold on,
- 13:08Speaker 1: need some coffee. Coffee is like the last thing I
- 13:10Speaker 1: need right now, but hold on, Tila, fuck it, Tequila
- 13:16Speaker 1: kidding me? Anyways, listen. This week, coming up in the
- 13:23Speaker 1: feed another story that the conspiracy theorists don't need any
- 13:26Speaker 1: help with. It's the story of Debbie Harry and Blondie.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I made the mistake last week in the after party
- 13:31Speaker 1: of mentioning that that was what was coming up in
- 13:33Speaker 1: the rewind. I fucked up. Actually I didn't fuck up.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Someone else did not gonna name names, Brett the intern,
- 13:39Speaker 1: but we ended up saying that Woods sorry that Debbie
- 13:42Speaker 1: Harry was coming when it wasn't. It was Woodstock. That
- 13:44Speaker 1: was the last rewind episodes. This week, we definitely have
- 13:48Speaker 1: Blondie and Debbie Harry coming up in the feed in
- 13:51Speaker 1: the rewind slot, and everything I said about it last
- 13:53Speaker 1: week pertains to this week. Same stuff. People go crazy
- 13:57Speaker 1: over this story because they think that Debbie Harry is
- 13:59Speaker 1: me it up. She's an unreliable narrator, just like Billy Corgan.
- 14:03Speaker 1: That's what they think, that she's making up this experience
- 14:05Speaker 1: she had with none other than Ted BONDI. I believe
- 14:09Speaker 1: Debbie Harry. And it's not just because of just knee
- 14:13Speaker 1: jerk just believing what she says, because she's a rock star,
- 14:15Speaker 1: she's a victim or whatever it's. It's because the facts
- 14:19Speaker 1: actually when you look at them, when you dig into history,
- 14:21Speaker 1: when you dig, when you dig just like an inch
- 14:23Speaker 1: deeper into the surface level of all this, you will
- 14:27Speaker 1: find that her depiction of what happened is actually backed
- 14:30Speaker 1: by the facts. And that's coming up in the Blondie
- 14:34Speaker 1: episode this week in the rewind slot. Then after that
- 14:37Speaker 1: our new episode on the Almond Brothers. Yes, finally it's here,
- 14:44Speaker 1: as requested, our episode on the Almond Brothers. Now. I
- 14:51Speaker 1: don't think the Almond Brothers liked being categorized as a
- 14:55Speaker 1: Southern rock band. But I mean, you kind of when
- 15:00Speaker 1: you think Southern rock, you just think you think Almond Brothers,
- 15:03Speaker 1: You think Leonard Skinnered, Right, that's what you think. But
- 15:06Speaker 1: there's a whole other world of great rock and roll
- 15:09Speaker 1: from the South and I want to know from you guys,
- 15:13Speaker 1: who is your favorite Southern rock band. Okay, don't be
- 15:17Speaker 1: afraid to call the Almend Brothers that I doubt very
- 15:19Speaker 1: much that any of them are gonna hear this episode. Okay,
- 15:22Speaker 1: now listen, this is a big category. It's not just
- 15:24Speaker 1: the Almen Brothers and Leonard Skinner. Tom Petty's from Florida.
- 15:28Speaker 1: The Heartbreakers are from Florida. I mean, you can go
- 15:31Speaker 1: even deeper. You can go like bark Ky's. Okay, you can.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I don't know, big Star. There's all kinds of Southern
- 15:38Speaker 1: great great great Southern rock and roll, all right, and
- 15:42Speaker 1: I'm thinking more sort of the era of the Almond
- 15:45Speaker 1: Brothers and Leonard Skinner seventies eighties nine Black Crows for example,
- 15:49Speaker 1: great Southern rock band, great great great. So get out
- 15:51Speaker 1: of six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I want your take on the greatest Southern rock bands
- 15:56Speaker 1: of all time. I want to talk about it next
- 15:58Speaker 1: week in the after party. So hit me up, me
- 16:00Speaker 1: a voicemail, send me a text, Email me Disgrace Ladpod
- 16:03Speaker 1: at gmail dot com. We'll be back in a flash
- 16:06Speaker 1: with your voicemails, texts, and vms after this all right, guys,
- 16:21Speaker 1: we are back. I'm on the phone with this one
- 16:23Speaker 1: across the hall. I'm hanging on the telephone. I want
- 16:24Speaker 1: to do some voicemails. Want to do some text from
- 16:26Speaker 1: you guys on all subjects relative to disgrace Lands six
- 16:29Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight. You
- 16:31Speaker 1: want to get at me, that's the easiest way to
- 16:33Speaker 1: do it. You can also hit me up disgrace lamdpod
- 16:35Speaker 1: at gmail dot com if you want to email me.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And I'm in the Patreon chat. I'm on Patreon with
- 16:40Speaker 1: Ze and the rest of the crew, the rest of
- 16:41Speaker 1: the disco's, rest of the Disgraceland community in there, talking music,
- 16:46Speaker 1: talking movies, talking whatever. Let's go to the six one
- 16:52Speaker 1: four A.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Discos. It's jew Balloon from the six one four Okay,
- 17:00Speaker 2: Love Courtney Love can't help it, got a lover. She
- 17:04Speaker 2: was just the trashiest bitch for the longest of times,
- 17:09Speaker 2: and maybe she still is. I've kind of lost track.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I kind of was pretty obsessed with her when I
- 17:18Speaker 2: bought Hole. I just bought Hole because they were called Whole,
- 17:23Speaker 2: so had to have the album. And yeah, as far
- 17:26Speaker 2: as chick bands back in that time, the best other
- 17:31Speaker 2: than L seven, but talking about underground New York City
- 17:36Speaker 2: bands unsane. I am the goddess of the unsane, and
- 17:43Speaker 2: that is all.
- 17:45Speaker 1: All right you, but thank you for the call. There's
- 17:47Speaker 1: a lot you get into here. Courtney Love. We're talking
- 17:49Speaker 1: about Courtney Love last week, and there is a Courtney
- 17:51Speaker 1: Love episode coming at some point. The drumbeat is getting
- 17:54Speaker 1: louder and louder and louder. It's funny you mentioned L
- 17:58Speaker 1: seven in New York City bands. When I played Warp
- 18:00Speaker 1: ninety seven, it was with L seven and with Sick
- 18:03Speaker 1: of It All, who I was talking about last week,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and I remember they had a really cool camaradity both
- 18:07Speaker 1: those bands backstage, and I just thought that that was
- 18:11Speaker 1: really interesting because you wouldn't normally associate those two together.
- 18:14Speaker 1: As for the unsaying, I'm very aware of the unsaying.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Once I once stayed at a member of the unsaans
- 18:20Speaker 1: loft in Brooklyn back in the nineties, way back in
- 18:24Speaker 1: the day, back when going to Brooklyn wasn't really a
- 18:27Speaker 1: thing you did. And also I saw unsaying a number
- 18:32Speaker 1: of times. The last time I saw them downstairs at
- 18:34Speaker 1: the Middle East, it was literally so it was the
- 18:37Speaker 1: loudest thing. I've literally the loudest show I've ever been to,
- 18:40Speaker 1: probably the loudest show I've ever ever been to in
- 18:42Speaker 1: my life. I could feel the inside of my stomach rattling,
- 18:47Speaker 1: and I actually got nauseous and had to leave from
- 18:51Speaker 1: the volume of the band. And I love unsaying. Great group. Yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 1: I don't know what Goddess of the unsaying means, JUBI,
- 18:59Speaker 1: but you know I'm interested. Let me know. Hit me
- 19:02Speaker 1: back six one seven nine or six six sixty three eight.
- 19:04Speaker 1: This comes from the six one five. Hey, I have
- 19:07Speaker 1: a Facebook group that I'm starting out. It's called Perspectives
- 19:10Speaker 1: about how perspectives are revealed in music, and your Billy
- 19:13Speaker 1: Corgan slash Smashing Pumpkins story had me hitting my steering wheel. Yes, yes, yes,
- 19:18Speaker 1: pain can be expressed ugly and sharp or maybe with
- 19:21Speaker 1: an orchestra and strings. Gave you guys a nod and links. Sorry,
- 19:25Speaker 1: still a very small group. Well that's okay, six one five,
- 19:27Speaker 1: We don't mind. Thanks for thanks for hitting us up,
- 19:30Speaker 1: and thanks for spreading the disgraceland word. And you're absolutely
- 19:33Speaker 1: right about perspective and yeah, you know this whole Billy
- 19:35Speaker 1: Corgan Smashing Pumpkins episode It's not just about him and
- 19:38Speaker 1: the shape Shifter, although that's what the discourse has been.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It's also very much about perspective and about pain, and
- 19:46Speaker 1: I thank you for bringing that up. This one from
- 19:48Speaker 1: the sixty three to nine. Hey, Jake, I'm a fairly
- 19:50Speaker 1: new listener from Canada and I'm about halfway through and
- 19:52Speaker 1: you are a wonderful storyteller. Oh thank you. And you
- 19:54Speaker 1: have really opened my eyes on different music. And I'm
- 19:57Speaker 1: also a crime junkie. And you wanted to know what
- 20:00Speaker 1: people wanted played at their funeral. Well, mine is Bette Midler.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Wind Beneath Your Wings, rock a rolla score one for
- 20:06Speaker 1: Bette Midler. Listen. Bette Midler one of those artists I
- 20:10Speaker 1: came across and researching New York Dolls back in the day,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and I didn't realize the extent of Bette Midler's sort
- 20:18Speaker 1: of downtown cool pre Bette Midler as we know her now.
- 20:21Speaker 1: So I'm very interested in Bette Midler's backstory and her
- 20:25Speaker 1: come up, and it's something that I'm going to get
- 20:26Speaker 1: into at some point. I literally read the scene, you know,
- 20:30Speaker 1: is when New York Dolls were playing was the Mercer
- 20:33Speaker 1: Arts Center, and in like, you know, there's rumors that
- 20:36Speaker 1: like Jimmy Hendricks was around. I don't know if that
- 20:38Speaker 1: makes sense timeline wise, and I didn't really put much
- 20:40Speaker 1: credence in that, but there there was specifically Bette Midler
- 20:43Speaker 1: was there, which I just thought was whoa whoao Bette
- 20:45Speaker 1: Midler really at a New York doll show. That's that's
- 20:47Speaker 1: pretty interesting. Four to one O rights and hey, Jake
- 20:50Speaker 1: Beck's from the four one oh. Just listen to your
- 20:52Speaker 1: new Dolly Parton episode learn some great new things. Want
- 20:54Speaker 1: to ask, do you have any recommendations for more information
- 20:57Speaker 1: about murder ballads? I do. Actually, there's a great book.
- 21:02Speaker 1: It's behind me here, hold on one second, got it.
- 21:07Speaker 1: It's called Crime Song True Crime Stories from Southern Murder
- 21:12Speaker 1: Ballads by Richard h. Underwood. I highly recommend it. It's scholarly,
- 21:17Speaker 1: but it's not too scholarly, if you know what I mean.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It's not boring. It's fascinating. And in particular, I think
- 21:25Speaker 1: we talk in the Dolly Parton episode in particular about
- 21:27Speaker 1: Knoxville Girl. Yeah, we definitely do, and it really traces
- 21:31Speaker 1: that song back to its roots over in Europe, to
- 21:36Speaker 1: the song Oxford Girl, which became Knoxford Girl. It goes
- 21:39Speaker 1: even deeper than that, goes like one hundred years or
- 21:40Speaker 1: two hundred years further into sort of Gaelic, the Gaelic tradition,
- 21:48Speaker 1: if I'm saying that correctly. And there's and it gets
- 21:50Speaker 1: into a bunch of other songs in here as well.
- 21:51Speaker 1: It's not just Knoxville Girl. I think every song is
- 21:54Speaker 1: a chapter anyways. Crime song by Richard h Underwood. All right,
- 22:00Speaker 1: check that out, six four six rights and Hey, Jake,
- 22:03Speaker 1: I hope you and the family are doing well. As
- 22:04Speaker 1: a Knicks fan, I wanted to ask your opinion on
- 22:07Speaker 1: the Jalen Brown trade to Philadelphia. My opinion is this
- 22:10Speaker 1: six four six See you later, wasn't I was a
- 22:15Speaker 1: fan of Jalen Brown the basketball player, was not a
- 22:18Speaker 1: fan of Jalen Brown the basketball player behind the microphone
- 22:23Speaker 1: and online and it just seemed like he didn't really
- 22:27Speaker 1: care about being a teammate or care about winning. I mean,
- 22:30Speaker 1: he finished, they went out in horrible fashion in the playoffs,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and his first comments on the mic are about how
- 22:38Speaker 1: this was his favorite year. Whatever they had. They had
- 22:42Speaker 1: to split up him in Tatum. It was never gonna
- 22:44Speaker 1: work for a million different reasons. That's just one of them.
- 22:46Speaker 1: And I don't think they're going to be that much
- 22:48Speaker 1: better without him, but at least I don't know it'll
- 22:51Speaker 1: be different. I don't know. Yeah, him with Lebron though,
- 22:58Speaker 1: that's funny. I like it. Jamie from the seven one
- 23:01Speaker 1: six right, I said, Hey, I'm a little behind on episodes,
- 23:03Speaker 1: but in a recent behind the scenes you were talking
- 23:05Speaker 1: about needing an angle for an episode on Fiona Apple.
- 23:08Speaker 1: A lesser known fact about her is that she's an
- 23:10Speaker 1: avid court watcher and criminal justice reform advocate. Could be
- 23:14Speaker 1: an interesting fresh take for the pot. I love that.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Did not know that seven one six and I appreciate it,
- 23:20Speaker 1: Thank you very much. All Right, listen, I want to
- 23:22Speaker 1: give you a little bit more on Billy Corgan. I
- 23:24Speaker 1: didn't know this until we get into the research. Now,
- 23:27Speaker 1: you've been saying the smashing pumpkins wrong in your head
- 23:30Speaker 1: for thirty years. No, the smashing pumpkins are not destroying pumpkins.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Smashing isn't a verb here. It's British slang like that
- 23:40Speaker 1: party was smashing. It means fantastic, amazing, a total knockout.
- 23:44Speaker 1: So the band's name isn't a violent image. The band's
- 23:47Speaker 1: name is a compliment. They're not smashing pumpkins. They are
- 23:51Speaker 1: smashing pumpkins as in Incredible Ones. And this isn't fan
- 23:55Speaker 1: theory either. Billy Corgan confirmed it himself years later, telling
- 23:59Speaker 1: this actual origin in the story, He said the word
- 24:01Speaker 1: smashing was meant to convey something fantastical and amazing, and
- 24:05Speaker 1: then he paired it with pumpkins because it added that contrast,
- 24:08Speaker 1: something dark and cool next to something goofy and playful,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and that juxtaposition perfectly captures the band's sound. All right,
- 24:15Speaker 1: disc goes, don't go anywhere, keep yourself captured. We'll be
- 24:18Speaker 1: back right after this with your emails and more. All right, guys,
- 24:35Speaker 1: we're back. Disgraceingpod at gmail dot com. This one comes
- 24:39Speaker 1: from Stanley Starbuck, subject shape Shifters message, Jake, thank you
- 24:45Speaker 1: for the caring and humane ways you treat people with
- 24:48Speaker 1: difficult lives in your podcast. I think you were helping
- 24:51Speaker 1: people think about meaningful ways of dealing with and stopping
- 24:55Speaker 1: the cycles of abuse that we all want to escape.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I had a shape shifter experience with a coyote. We
- 25:02Speaker 1: have twoy rabbits where we live, so I keep a
- 25:04Speaker 1: live trap out for them all summer. I moved them
- 25:07Speaker 1: to distant prairies so few of them are starving to
- 25:10Speaker 1: death in the winter. One morning, my wife woke me
- 25:12Speaker 1: up early because there was a crying sound outside and
- 25:15Speaker 1: it had to be the rabbit trap. When I stepped outside,
- 25:18Speaker 1: I immediately saw the trap tipped over with a rabbit
- 25:21Speaker 1: in it, and there was a deer standing next to it,
- 25:24Speaker 1: just staring at me. And while I was looking at
- 25:27Speaker 1: the deer just ten feet away from me, I saw
- 25:29Speaker 1: it transform into a coyote. Of course, it was a
- 25:33Speaker 1: coyote wanting to take advantage of the trapped rabbit, But
- 25:37Speaker 1: why did it appear much larger and as a completely
- 25:40Speaker 1: different animal when we first started our staring contest. After
- 25:44Speaker 1: I saw it shrinked out and change it to a coyote,
- 25:47Speaker 1: I said, you don't need to eat that, and the
- 25:49Speaker 1: coyote trotted off into the night. I took the rabbit
- 25:52Speaker 1: to a new home on a restored prairie later that morning,
- 25:54Speaker 1: and that's my shape shifter experience. The strangest part that
- 25:58Speaker 1: stays with me is that I never felt with any fear,
- 26:01Speaker 1: and it did not seem as though the coyote was
- 26:03Speaker 1: afraid of me either. It was not a dream, but
- 26:05Speaker 1: it was surreal. Stanley, I thank you for the message,
- 26:10Speaker 1: appreciate it. I don't know what to say to that.
- 26:13Speaker 1: It's truly mind blowing. And who am I to question
- 26:16Speaker 1: what you saw? That's the thing, you know, Like I
- 26:20Speaker 1: know it sounds ridiculous, like you hear the Billy Corgan
- 26:23Speaker 1: story and you just immediately go, oh, he's fucking with us,
- 26:26Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like he's just and maybe
- 26:28Speaker 1: he is. And yeah, I mentioned the whole provocateur thing earlier,
- 26:31Speaker 1: but I do reserve a little bit of leeway in
- 26:34Speaker 1: my thinking here. Perhaps he thinks he actually saw that,
- 26:41Speaker 1: just like Stanley here. I'm not gonna argue with Stanley.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I'm not gonna argue with Billy Corgan. I am going
- 26:46Speaker 1: to argue with the nerds on the internet who just
- 26:48Speaker 1: shut down any thinking and just you know, make wild claims.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Those are the fuckers. I'm gonna argue with more smashing Pumpkins,
- 26:54Speaker 1: this one from Delbert Brown, who right saying, Hey, I
- 26:56Speaker 1: don't know if I can agree that Pumpkins filled the
- 26:58Speaker 1: vacuum left by Nirvana. Despite the notoriety of the band,
- 27:01Speaker 1: the Vacuum sucked lots of other bands into our ears
- 27:03Speaker 1: as well. I remember the first time someone asked me
- 27:06Speaker 1: about smashing Pumpkins and I said, yeah, we do with
- 27:08Speaker 1: every Halloween. That's a band. Weirdly, I listened to More
- 27:11Speaker 1: Patent Era, Faith, No More Headpe and Pantera. Siamese Dreams
- 27:15Speaker 1: a great album, but the real vacuum is Billy Corgan.
- 27:19Speaker 1: He sucks. The band has talent, but that doesn't excuse
- 27:22Speaker 1: his behavior. I think his contemporaries were spot on. I
- 27:25Speaker 1: saw them in ninety six with Garbage opening, and it
- 27:27Speaker 1: was about his cookie cutter and boring of a concert
- 27:29Speaker 1: I've ever attended. I love the stern interview, though, especially
- 27:32Speaker 1: when Howard is more concerned with the otherworldly entities junk size.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Even he couldn't take it seriously. Why even talk about
- 27:39Speaker 1: something like that without putting a name on it? You
- 27:41Speaker 1: think retaliation will put less eyes on it. Let's be
- 27:44Speaker 1: weird for the sake of putting yourself back in the
- 27:45Speaker 1: public eye with a goofy claim because you are becoming irrelevant. Delbert,
- 27:50Speaker 1: you got a lot to say here, man, and I
- 27:53Speaker 1: might not agree with you, but it is of you
- 27:55Speaker 1: that I know lots of you have, and that's why
- 27:58Speaker 1: I read your email, and I love the ash behind
- 28:00Speaker 1: it as well. Delbert right back to me anytime. This
- 28:03Speaker 1: email comes from Eric Zerhid, who writes in, Hey guys,
- 28:06Speaker 1: I'm a new listener and I love your podcast episode
- 28:08Speaker 1: with Stuff they don't want you to know, which I've
- 28:10Speaker 1: been listening to for years, searching through your back catalog
- 28:13Speaker 1: and realizing I'll never catch up. I was hoping to
- 28:15Speaker 1: find something on metalcore band as I lay dying. Now
- 28:18Speaker 1: I won't spoil the story for I'm going to stop
- 28:19Speaker 1: you right here, Eric, Okay, because we are literally in
- 28:22Speaker 1: the process of putting this episode together right now. Okay,
- 28:27Speaker 1: it's a come in your way. Appreciate the email. Guys.

- 30:07Speaker 1: we get into the recap here, I just want to
- 30:08Speaker 1: say last, let's see the Tuesday Night that just we
- 30:12Speaker 1: just passed. Loka Connie, Adam Wiener, that's his band. Adam's
- 30:19Speaker 1: been on the show before. They had a pretty significant
- 30:21Speaker 1: thing take place. They performed live on The Jimmy Kimmel
- 30:24Speaker 1: Show in Studio. It aired on Tuesday Night, and my,
- 30:29Speaker 1: oh my, did Adam and the gang bring it. They
- 30:33Speaker 1: were fucking great. And the thing that's so cool about
- 30:35Speaker 1: the performance is Adam was totally Adam. He just did
- 30:39Speaker 1: his thing. He you know, he brought what he brings
- 30:42Speaker 1: to the stage every night to live television. He didn't
- 30:45Speaker 1: do some safe version of a song for television. He
- 30:48Speaker 1: was out there on the piano stool on one foot,
- 30:53Speaker 1: bent over, banging on the keys, jumps off, grabs the mic,
- 30:58Speaker 1: goes right to the camera, gets right in the camera's face,
- 31:01Speaker 1: starts saying just it was perfect, Loka Connie. I'm so
- 31:05Speaker 1: happy for my friend Adam. I'm so happy for the band.
- 31:08Speaker 1: They deserve this. They are quite quite literally the hardest
- 31:12Speaker 1: working band and show business. Adam hasn't stopped since he
- 31:15Speaker 1: started this band ten or so years ago or whenever
- 31:19Speaker 1: it was. And I'm happy that they're receiving the recognition
- 31:23Speaker 1: and these opportunities. It's not just good for Adam, who's
- 31:26Speaker 1: a friend of the show and my personal friend, it's
- 31:29Speaker 1: also great for rock and roll. They are the real deal.
- 31:31Speaker 1: If you guys haven't heard Loka Connie, I employe to
- 31:35Speaker 1: go check them out. They are fantastic. They literally don't
- 31:38Speaker 1: have a bad album. You can start with Barack Obama's
- 31:41Speaker 1: favorite song though, Boozophelia, and I'm not even joking about that.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Check that out Google Loka Connie Boozophelia on YouTube. You'll
- 31:49Speaker 1: have a great time. And then you can check them
- 31:51Speaker 1: out on Jimmy Kimmel as well. All right, let's recap,
