- 0:45Welcome back to the boundary for podcast.
- 0:50Ron Ziegler. What's up buddy?
- 0:53We made it. We made it.
- 0:55You made a week. It is game week.
- 0:59College football has kicked off. So before we do anything else
- 1:03tonight, I'll toast to cheer you up.
- 1:08Get another 20 21 season. Yes, sir.
- 1:17Buddy. How was your day?
- 1:24It's pretty chill. It was pretty chill.
- 1:27I did get to come home early. I was in the office, but they
- 1:31sent her, like, if you want to go work from home because this
- 1:33whole potential, tornado, business are like go ahead.
- 1:36I was like, okay, I got here about Electro 3 and finish up
- 1:42the last couple hours a year. Yeah, it's man.
- 1:45Um, as you know, midday we lost power here in the West End for a
- 1:49little while. I don't know.
- 1:50Before we were crossing our fake, he sent me the the window.
- 1:54I was like, settings, a little close for comfort for a window
- 2:00but it worked at this thing rolling.
- 2:01But a shout-out Dominion. Power big shout out beneath our.
- 2:07They got it on within about an hour and a half after it went
- 2:10off. Oh, okay.
- 2:11So you it was quick, then it was pretty quick.
- 2:14So I don't think it was anything storm-related.
- 2:16I think it was who knows somebody they've been doing work
- 2:21behind us but they They can put a sidewalk into, go up and
- 2:26deeper on Park. And my first thought was even
- 2:31though it's raining crappy. Were they out there working day?
- 2:33And like someone put the auger a little too deep into the ground.
- 2:37Exactly. Go on you know, was it?
- 2:41That was it? What was it?
- 2:45I don't know. But we lost power.
- 2:46We got it back. Then my wife came on with the
- 2:48with my middle child and he was a little out of control today,
- 2:52but you know, all is well, you know, as we are want to be and
- 2:57they exactly exactly. But you know, This is it weird
- 3:03game we guys and we are going to look at a little bit of
- 3:06everything. We're going to look at the
- 3:07Hokies depth chart. We're going to look at Carolina,
- 3:11we're going to preview the enemy.
- 3:13We're going to do some pics later in the program, we're
- 3:15going to start with just a couple quick hitters tonight.
- 3:17And, and kind of the first one is kind of funny but we still
- 3:21should talk about it. Smithfield meat products is the
- 3:26only answer the Commonwealth Clash.
- 3:31All my mean that if so the turkey bacon jokes right
- 3:35themselves, right? Yes, they did.
- 3:38The turkey bacon jokes rank themselves, anybody that read
- 3:42the SI article and all the stuff that was coming out, leading up
- 3:47to last year and I last year. It was, it was, it was kind of
- 3:52it was interesting. But overall it's bacon, it's
- 3:56good sausage. If you don't have Smithfield for
- 3:59a nooner at your 6:00 a.m. tailgate, it probably not doing
- 4:04something, right? I had some Smithfield and I, we
- 4:07do breakfast for dinner breakfast today.
- 4:10I did dollar taco night, man after the day everything, always
- 4:14a good decision. Keep it till Wednesday.
- 4:17Hump day tacos, nothing like that.
- 4:20Shout out. Rico's Tacos in the West End if
- 4:23you don't know. Go there on Wednesday nights.
- 4:25$1, beef or chicken? Tacos or salt?
- 4:29Maybe somebody from there. Also Rico's.
- 4:31Mechanicsville same deals Penguins night.
- 4:34Yeah, it's cool. It's actually to me it's cool to
- 4:39see Smithfield someone in state-sponsored the Rivalry.
- 4:43You know, there's going to be a little monetary coming into the
- 4:46Pockets of both schools, which is always a plus.
- 4:49And again, it's a brand synonymous with Virginia but
- 4:52it's just one of those funny things that we hadn't mentioned.
- 4:55We had an engine. Now, the other not funny thing
- 4:58but really cool thing this week, Brian, I'm sure you read it.
- 5:01Just like I did and if you see me turning my head, folks, I
- 5:03have Jacksonville State. You a be up here.
- 5:06UAB is up 17, nothing the line 16 and a half.
- 5:10I was like take the 16 and a half of Jacksonville States
- 5:12doing nothing off. In fact what I was saying
- 5:14earlier this week hey Cece. Work announces Eddie Royal is
- 5:18going to be joining the ACC Network as part of the all-acc
- 5:22on network using information show, when he's going to do some
- 5:26weekly appearances throughout the season.
- 5:28Every Thursday, he's also going to do commentary on some ACC
- 5:31Network games. His first will be technical,
- 5:34Tennessee State. I mean, this is just what I was
- 5:40a good that's great for any great for Virginia Tech and good
- 5:45for the ACC Network. Work.
- 5:47They absolutely needed to get more former players in on this
- 5:50thing. Yes, and getting someone from
- 5:54Virginia Tech in the building. In the studio is a big deal.
- 6:00Doing someone from Virginia Tech's, a big deal.
- 6:02It's big deal for us, a big deal for a network but also getting
- 6:04someone who spent nine years in the NFL And again, he was
- 6:11phenomenal, ACC performer when he was at Virginia Tech.
- 6:15So you're getting this guy who didn't, just go one or two years
- 6:17in the NFL, he legitimately between Denver and Chicago.
- 6:21I know I'm missing somewhere in there, you know, Janet Leigh had
- 6:25a long and FL career. And again, it's going to be
- 6:29interesting to see if they let Eddie interview people.
- 6:31You know, people talk about Eddie's personality, never met
- 6:34him personally, like Eddie had that personality just drawn to
- 6:38you. So, you know, it's awesome to
- 6:40see a poke get in there and going to be going to be
- 6:45interesting to see how he is from the booth.
- 6:50Chargers. Thank you.
- 6:51Jay bernzy for you with somebody.
- 6:53I was missing there. All right.
- 6:55So let's roll on Brian and let's, let's hit, let's take a
- 6:59look at Virginia Tech. It was released midweek, the
- 7:04depth chart. And as we look at it here Brian
- 7:07we both pulled it up. Shout out any better, that's who
- 7:09I'm calling Mom from. Let's first start with the
- 7:13offensive line just last week. Own the Hokie podcast hosted by
- 7:21John laser. Frank Wilson came out and said
- 7:25let it get Smith bra Kaufman. Caden more Silas Deane Z or
- 7:28starters. Nothing changed in the next five
- 7:31or six days. We feel about this starting
- 7:35offensive line, I feel good about it, especially from the
- 7:39Run blocking standpoint, the jury is still out on what the
- 7:43right side is going to do. In terms of past Pro, we know
- 7:47Silas has been up and down through his career.
- 7:50In that regard. Haven't seen a whole lot of
- 7:53Arcane but we know Caden can fucking wall people.
- 7:57So the fact that he ended up climbing up the depth chart was
- 8:02a little bit of a shock but I think is a good thing and I
- 8:04think it's the potential that we saw in him especially once we
- 8:08had a little bit of a of a vacate at that position with
- 8:13Hudson and Nestor moving on, you knew that Caden more was at
- 8:18least going to be in the conversation there.
- 8:20And it looks like he kind of flat out one that job.
- 8:24Silas was getting some run there.
- 8:27I know they were looking at a couple other guys but Caden
- 8:29locked it down. Yeah, you know, Saddles got run
- 8:32there because Tyrell started at right?
- 8:34Tackle almond. Looks like you know as it's been
- 8:38known with Vice to do, he's going to mix up the lines, he's
- 8:42going to mix up. I'm sure there were some weird
- 8:44combinations out there probably some combinations that he had no
- 8:47business running. But again, well I do that.
- 8:50Just being truthful from what you hear from Vice, you're not
- 8:52wrong. He's Trying to find his best
- 8:55five. And then when you look at the
- 8:56depth behind them, does it interest you that, you know, do
- 9:02you think Tyrell Smith and Parker comments are legitimately
- 9:05the backups? Or is this just one of those?
- 9:08What we need to put different names here.
- 9:11So that's the big thing for me. So let's talk about tackle
- 9:15first, more than likely one of those two is probably going to
- 9:20be the primary swing tackle. If I had to put money on it, I'd
- 9:24say it's probably ties Smith. Yeah, one tackle goes down.
- 9:28He's going in there regardless of whether it's too new to on
- 9:32one side or Silas on the other. Now when we look to the interior
- 9:36line, that's when it gets a little bit more hazy, I I think
- 9:41that Johnny is going to be the primary swing guy and then
- 9:45you're going to look at maybe Jesse handsome being in there as
- 9:49well. So you're probably looking at a
- 9:50seven or eight man rotation. Like we're normally used to with
- 9:54Virginia, Tech's offensive, line under coach Vice.
- 9:58And I think those are kind of your, your eight guys.
- 10:02It's going to be those starting five along with Jesse handsome,
- 10:05Johnny, Jordan, and Tyrell Smith down in that out.
- 10:11You know, you got you got a jack hollifield.
- 10:13Slated in is the number two Right Guard, but for people are
- 10:15going to have to get injured before.
- 10:17You see him, hit the Fiat even as could currently constructed.
- 10:20So yeah, there's unless all five starters, go down at one time.
- 10:25You're not seeing Jack hollifield.
- 10:27Yeah, I like that. But it does say something that
- 10:30he's already making some noise in the interior offensive line.
- 10:35As well though, I think long-term we're probably looking
- 10:37at him as more of a sinner than a guard.
- 10:40Sure, that's kind of what The stuff that the information
- 10:43that's coming out that he probably is looking at taking
- 10:45that path with Center. Downey Jordan being the primary
- 10:48backup for Center versus Right Guard.
- 10:52I think that tells a little more because I think if something
- 10:56were to happen, I think Johnny would go to Center because I
- 10:59think Brock completed was guard positions a lot either.
- 11:02Yeah, yeah, Brock would probably slide.
- 11:05And then Next, man up. If two interior goes down, it's
- 11:10probably going to be Jesse handsome.
- 11:12Yeah, and I think you mentioned something in the past that you
- 11:16believe that if Brock Smith any guard position.
- 11:21He wouldn't be the center calling the plays, but he would
- 11:24be calling from wherever he is on the line.
- 11:27If he's on the interior more than likely, you get a better
- 11:30point of view from the center position.
- 11:33So that's the ideal situation, but I think they would they
- 11:38would rather go with comfort of the position and comfort of the
- 11:41blocks, which would, which means putting Johnny in there, it's
- 11:44centered over. 100 percent having that Vision to make all
- 11:48the right calls and and Brock. I think he's done this enough
- 11:53and he's got the mental capability to get it done.
- 11:58Even if he's not quite getting the point of view that he'd like
- 12:00to have from the center position.
- 12:03Absolutely. Alright, let's jump next on
- 12:07where You happy to see the way the six positions are with the
- 12:10White House. The six guys at the wideout
- 12:13positions. There's anything sort of oh he's
- 12:17grinding is to eat. No, here's the thing.
- 12:19I would have liked to see his. I'd like to see Jaden pay you
- 12:24beat out. Caleb Smith for the while.
- 12:27Yeah. And and that's not going to
- 12:28Kayla Smith. But I feel like we've kind of
- 12:31we've seen when Caleb's capable of we haven't seen what Jaden's
- 12:34capable of what is ceiling is going to be.
- 12:36I'd like to see him get enough run to really show what he is or
- 12:40is not capable of You know what I think it is.
- 12:42I know there was the reports that he had a slight tweak.
- 12:46I think that's more of he did not get the time to win.
- 12:50The why slot is that may be true in, especially for a guy that
- 12:53switching positions and a guy that hadn't played receiver
- 12:58before coming to Virginia Tech? Yeah.
- 13:01I think I think he's still probably come along in the
- 13:03offense, he probably needed the Reps to get where he needed to
- 13:07be. So you're probably right there,
- 13:09I'm sure, you know, losing reps losing time.
- 13:11I'm Caleb's been pretty much handling, you know that role for
- 13:18a while now. So yeah kind of kind of go with
- 13:20the guy. That's a little more little,
- 13:22more seasoned. Absolutely.
- 13:24It's also it's great to see Jalen Jones and Duane Lofton as
- 13:27the 2D 50x and at the slot, you've heard we continue to hear
- 13:32and we've heard really good things about these guys really
- 13:35good things and seeing them as the 2D.
- 13:39As being, you have talked about in the past you're talking great
- 13:44about them. Are you going to put them on the
- 13:46field? Dip, I'm hoping that since
- 13:48they're in the too deep and they have been talked up for the last
- 13:51month. This means they're going to have
- 13:53some run out there at some point during Friday's game.
- 13:57That's my hoping, especially with the one Lofton because
- 14:01with, with t Robinson. Yeah, he's got the starting slot
- 14:05position, but more than likely he's they're going to move him
- 14:08all over the The offense. So you might have some scenarios
- 14:12where he's on the field with the lime often you might have some
- 14:15situations where he's just playing in the slot and you got,
- 14:19either Caleb or Jaden out on the outside with tray.
- 14:22So I think they'll mix it up because because Tay does give
- 14:27them that flexibility but I definitely want to see those
- 14:31freshmen. Get some run this year and it's
- 14:33nice to see two guys that we targeted in the last class come
- 14:36in, make a name for themselves quick and they're already.
- 14:39D creasing, the too deep absolutely.
- 14:43Before we jump over the defensive side of the ball,
- 14:45we're not going to talk about tight end.
- 14:46We're going to talk about quarterback.
- 14:48Those are pretty much interest positions that's the best
- 14:52running back. Depth chart I've ever seen.
- 14:54Not a one, a, and one b. A one, a b and c Prime.
- 15:00How angry will you be if you do not see form, a combination of
- 15:05been posting and Rahim Blackshear or Shaun King and
- 15:09Rahim Blackshear on the field at the same time driving?
- 15:12Yeah. I mean we got to get we got to
- 15:15get Blackshear on the field. A good amount and not just as a
- 15:18spell back, I think he's going to be fine as a spell back but
- 15:23you can't just use them as a spell back.
- 15:24That was my criticism for most of 2020, that's going to be my
- 15:27criticism. If you don't come out with plays
- 15:31to get him involved in the game that aren't just inside Zone and
- 15:35outside. So so we need to find a way to
- 15:38get him the ball. Outside of those traditional
- 15:41replace that we call Keshawn King is who I love seeing their
- 15:48especially after, after kind of how 2019 wrapped up for him.
- 15:53How the offseason went, how 2020 went for him, see him back in
- 15:57that three-man rotation and running back is big and I hope
- 16:01that he has a good year because I feel like he can bring a lot
- 16:03of different things to the table that we don't have in the other
- 16:06two backs and that 3D especially the explosions that he has.
- 16:11Let's put over the defense for a second here on, you know, couple
- 16:14positions. I mean, Defensive end.
- 16:18No question that kind of is what it is.
- 16:21Defensive tackle on kind of again is what it is but I'm
- 16:27going to look at this one first. Let's look at boundary safety.
- 16:32Okay we have been hearing today dailies going to be doing a dual
- 16:36role. Hey dailies name does not appear
- 16:39as the boundary safety primary back of this.
- 16:42Let's see your peoples. What does that say to you about
- 16:47what's going on with that position?
- 16:50So if we're following the same logic that we followed with
- 16:53offensive line, okay? It's almost like, once the guys
- 16:58name is put in one position, he's not going to be put in
- 17:02another position even though an offensive line, we know that if
- 17:06Right Guard goes down, more than likely, we're seeing Johnny,
- 17:09Jordan at one position of the other get or broke off and slide
- 17:12it over, and that's not how it Like this is a mad we're not set
- 17:15it up. We're we're stacking are too
- 17:17deep with, you know, the starter at another position or the
- 17:21backup at another position. We're either not all, you're not
- 17:26starting your entire 2nd Street from guard to guard with the
- 17:31best second-string guy, you got on the interior line there.
- 17:35I think the same is playing here, take daily and probably is
- 17:37going to be that kind of Swing safety that third safety, that's
- 17:41going to operate in both some of the giveaway with if that is
- 17:44that you got Jalen strowman is kind of the OR at the at the
- 17:48free safety position. So that tells me that he's
- 17:51coming along there as well. But I mean the Seer people's is
- 17:55in there as well. He's I'd like to see what he can
- 17:59do, get on the field and get some time as well because I
- 18:02think he's got a lot of potential there as well.
- 18:05The question for me with Devin Hunters is Devin Hunter going to
- 18:08be conditioning wise football-wise where he needs to
- 18:12be to absorb the amount of snaps.
- 18:14He'll have to India as a starter.
- 18:17Yep. That's going to be a biggie
- 18:18there. On the other thing that caught
- 18:20the I was free. Safety.
- 18:22Jalen stroma is the or I think me and you already talked about
- 18:26we thought he was going to see. Definitely probably not going to
- 18:29get a red chair. Probably going to be on a
- 18:30special team obviously going to get someone at free safety now.
- 18:34Yeah be I was I was calling that out the gate.
- 18:36I was like this guy's going to probably see some sometime this
- 18:38year. He was at least going to use
- 18:41every snap of his four games. If he wasn't gonna have to burn
- 18:46the Richard, so here we are. Hey, red shirt being that.
- 18:50I think you should tell that. I think you've already built, I
- 18:53think he's ready to play. He's got the body's ready to
- 18:57play. He's practice significantly with
- 19:01NFL. NFL caliber players, so it's
- 19:07true. All right, let's look at next.
- 19:10And I'm trying to figure this because as we talked about we're
- 19:13not putting our for best players on the offensive line linebacker
- 19:17looks completely opposite where we were seeing McRae from
- 19:20Marshall the Marshal transfer talked about as being the
- 19:23potential back up the backer lo and behold this pops out and
- 19:27it's the more seasoned it's the more veteran it's the unlikely
- 19:31backer fit and Keyshawn artist. What is that?
- 19:35Well I think I'll tell you what I think it says and that's based
- 19:39on something. I heard later in the week as it
- 19:43went along, is that we're working McRae.
- 19:46A little bit at the defensive end.
- 19:50So if we're working McRae and defensive end then, More than
- 19:56likely we're going to look at Dean backing up Dex and Keyshawn
- 20:03backing up Tisdale that's going to be interested in.
- 20:06I did I think the the dean thing doesn't shock me.
- 20:10I think as you were alluding to the Keyshawn artist, backing up
- 20:13Alan Tisdale's a little more shocking.
- 20:15Yeah he shines a little bit of a more bigger linebacker.
- 20:19You would think you would be a little better fit on the
- 20:23interior but it sounds it sounds like Dean's really Stepped up
- 20:26and it sounds like he's Sean. They at least trust him enough
- 20:31to be able to handle the athleticism required to that
- 20:34position to these. Be that too deep it at backer.
- 20:38They're absolutely right. Let's get back to the secondary
- 20:41real quick. We're not questioning tomorrow.
- 20:44Connor tomorrow Connick gets the 25.
- 20:46He's obviously the primary Nickelback but let's look at
- 20:50corner because I think coming into this I think me you
- 20:55Probably the rest hooky Nation. We're thinking Germain factor
- 20:58means healthy. He's one that's the case.
- 21:00We also thought Dorian strong had one hell of a campaign last
- 21:03year, freshman All-America, he's definitely to Armani Chapman for
- 21:09the coaches. For the reports has had his best
- 21:12Camp since you've been at Tech, and he is essentially, the one
- 21:16be with Oreo strong. Alton brahmani, I think Alton
- 21:21for that room. That's huge.
- 21:25I like that. I mean, our money's always had
- 21:27the ability. It was a little bit of the
- 21:29consistency. I think that he was missing in
- 21:31his game and some of those early stamps he was getting
- 21:36particularly looking last year. He'd have one really good play,
- 21:38and then he backed it up with a play that he went quite worried.
- 21:42He's to be or did make the play. So if he can get some
- 21:46consistency in his game, the sky's the Because he's got he's
- 21:50got all the ability good size 5-11 205 you like that sighs.
- 21:56He's big enough to Jamie but he also has the athleticism to run
- 22:00with you. So I'm hoping for big things for
- 22:02him and I'm sure some of that, I mean, I know I knew Dorian did
- 22:05well last year but door, he's probably still going to need
- 22:07another year to get the size that you like him to have.
- 22:11Yeah, to be kind of an every day on corner.
- 22:15Absolutely anything else between either depth chart?
- 22:19Catch your eye over the last couple days that you will not.
- 22:23Um, you know, I mean, we've already talked about it a little
- 22:26bit, but we're a little little, little antsy about Eli Adams
- 22:31being our number two, defensive end on the left side behind
- 22:35them. All right bar.
- 22:36Now, I'm not knocking him. Just size-wise.
- 22:40It's a concern. You got weight only 235.
- 22:44That's not the bad part. The bad part is, he's coupling
- 22:46that with a height of five eleven, which really doesn't
- 22:49match the scheme and we're trying to run now.
- 22:52Yeah, so that's a little concerning.
- 22:54But it is, it is, but I think a little bit later on in the
- 22:58episode, by we're going to get into a few things with that.
- 23:01We need to talk about Caroline about what we're going to do.
- 23:03And things mean, you discussed, potentially could happen with
- 23:06the defensive line. All right?
- 23:08Before we move on, let's go ahead and take a look team,
- 23:13captains, Ryan, I don't think Any of the shot we have tight.
- 23:16End, James Mitchell, linebacker docks, hollifield tomorrow.
- 23:21Connor number 25. This week, bra Kaufman and
- 23:25Terrell Smith. I think you have a great balance
- 23:27but we have a prediction like that.
- 23:30I don't know if we can use that one.
- 23:33Ha ha ha. She said, you can't legs.
- 23:36We gotta give us one will write it down for later in the
- 23:41episode, but I think you get a good mix of Glove.
- 23:46You have your dog's right? Yep.
- 23:51Your dogs give your dogs. You kind of have your own garden
- 23:56task myth. And then you sort of have the
- 24:00governor governor in James Mitchell.
- 24:06So you have this wide variety of leadership.
- 24:10You have tomorrow who's a little quieter rocking Dax the dogs
- 24:14real loud. Although Jamari is quite, he's a
- 24:16dog as well and then you have, it's like it's a good blend.
- 24:21It's not everybody's like James Mitchell, very considered the
- 24:25governor. In everybody's not wild and
- 24:29crazy getting 15 or penalties after plays go offense.
- 24:32Jock often but you know, you guys are old heads Highsmith
- 24:35making sure everybody gets their fiber.
- 24:37I mean, it's on their bands. There are copper tones, but any
- 24:44shots with anybody on here. No shock.
- 24:48I mean that was pretty straightforward move by the
- 24:50Hokies so nothing to really comment on but you know
- 24:55sometimes predictable responses are good.
- 24:58Very nice. Um Brian it's orange effect
- 25:02week. They released the jerseys about
- 25:05two hours ago. Did they get it right?
- 25:09Yes, they absolutely got it right, white helmets, orange
- 25:15jerseys, orange pants. Let's do this.
- 25:19They did get it right. It looks good.
- 25:21It's an orange effect. You know, we are maroon and
- 25:26orange Chicago maroon, pretty specific and orange.
- 25:30It needs to be orange on orange effect.
- 25:33You don't need to have a maroon helmet on orange, effect games.
- 25:37The white helmet is good with the obviously upset entirely for
- 25:43tally. He's saying that they made this
- 25:46move so he don't upset and then I'll take totality was
- 25:50definitely a line. The orange flag for sure he
- 25:54would definitely, but I think what it is is you're seeing a
- 25:58more, I think there's some people internally that we're
- 26:01getting inside the locker room that is seen the stuff and say,
- 26:05why are we wearing All right, arm just like white pants.
- 26:10Orange, Jersey maroon help. That makes no sense.
- 26:14So for me, they got it, right? You know, the thing is, as I
- 26:19look in my closet, I don't think I have a maroon effect t-shirt
- 26:22or an orange effect t-shirt for an orange show, t-shirt at all.
- 26:26So make a purchase do what I don't know.
- 26:31It's all my life. Well, we bought, you know, the
- 26:34maroon in Orange. So I just didn't like that, man.
- 26:38All right. The guys before we get into our
- 26:41main topic tonight of taking a look at the enemy UNC, we are
- 26:46going to take a quick pause for a message from our digital
- 26:48Partners. All right, big guy, let's start
- 26:51it off. Here we are going to take a look
- 26:53at the UNC offense first. And before you can say anything
- 26:57about the UNC offense, you have to start with Sam how projected
- 27:02first-round pick for next year, a guy, who in his two seasons
- 27:05with starting, sixty eight, touchdowns 14.
- 27:07In interceptions 64 percent completion percentages wanting
- 27:13on record against the Hokies. Last time he stepped in Lane was
- 27:16the Epic overtime game that he did lose.
- 27:20Brian is I was going through some of the stats and data I
- 27:26really looked at the PFF chart as I started looking at the PFF
- 27:31chart and kind of talking with you.
- 27:33I started noticing a trend, it got looked at the left side
- 27:36throws for saying, how that is his primary.
- 27:39He was above average super red, which means he's making those
- 27:43throws, they're getting big plays, it was impressive because
- 27:46on the left side, it wasn't just the 0 to 10.
- 27:50It was the 10 to 20 and even further down the field,
- 27:54actually, going to the left. And then you kind of go over the
- 27:58middle of the field, the 11:55 yard range really, really good
- 28:02really good, get Beyond 12 yards, though.
- 28:06He starts becoming average to below average on those fields,
- 28:09in the middle of the field between the hash Caught my eye,
- 28:13obviously mean, you had a conversation about it before we
- 28:17get to all of it. There's that last piece I look
- 28:20to the right side and buddy, that thing was a lot of white.
- 28:25So average, and a lot of blue below average.
- 28:30So I'm going to give you this What is this telling us about
- 28:35Sam? How is it saying?
- 28:37What do you think is saying? Because once I feel he's killing
- 28:40it, then you go to the middle, he does.
- 28:42Okay, past the certain yardage and then on the right side, good
- 28:46lord. It's ice cold.
- 28:49If you looked at the tape, the way they aligned by yummy brown
- 28:54last year, he was primarily on the left hand side of the
- 28:57offensive formation. So with, They Were Striking down
- 29:00feel they were doing so more effectively.
- 29:05We're dying. Be brown was lining up.
- 29:08Okay? So that's one piece of and he
- 29:11was the primary deep threat. So that's why you're seeing
- 29:13plays further down the field have more effect on.
- 29:19Side. So that's the big thing with
- 29:20that, you know, the question that we're going to be talking
- 29:23about is You know Sam how Abby even if he repeats what he did
- 29:28last year that's going to be a damn good campaign for that
- 29:32team, right? Yeah.
- 29:34So I don't necessarily think that there's areas of concern
- 29:38for him but we'll see if having a little bit more of a balanced
- 29:46receiving Corps. May end up either negatively or
- 29:51positively impacting kind of where those where those throws
- 29:54were going compared to last. Last year, what the
- 29:56effectiveness of those throws are?
- 29:58All right? You mentioned the left side of
- 30:00the deep. What about the middle?
- 30:02Why was it 11:55? It looks like you is killing but
- 30:05it didn't get much further than that.
- 30:06Is that something to do with possibly Das?
- 30:09Yeah. I mean so I mean there's is
- 30:11primarily working from the slot working underneath.
- 30:15They weren't running a bunch of seems or post from the slide
- 30:20with him. It was a lot of Corners ins
- 30:24digs, essentially, man, beaters. Okay, they were running a lot of
- 30:30a lot of routes like that. We saw. some, some problems that
- 30:36that created for each amerikaner in last year's game, before he
- 30:41got the, got the kick out there, so we'll see if they're able to
- 30:49do that with with another guy, we're talking about here a
- 30:52little bit, replace some of that production, but yet that's why
- 30:57Hal is so effective, though, is because he when he identifies,
- 31:02as a good relationship with a Edit he can hit them effectively
- 31:06down the field but underneath he kind of peppers everybody even
- 31:11though a guy like Dez Newsome was doing some special things in
- 31:14getting open and getting some of those releases that gave him a
- 31:17big window to get the ball in there.
- 31:20Alright, so we now essentially, we effectively get to see on
- 31:24Friday night, the importance of Das, the importance of die.
- 31:29Ami in that chart and even more. So That it was announced earlier
- 31:36this week that the most experienced returning starter
- 31:41for UNC, both Corrales is out, he is out for this game and
- 31:47that's going to be a big thing in terms of kind of those third
- 31:50downs. And in the Red Zone because Bo
- 31:54Corrales isn't necessarily breaking away big-time down the
- 31:58field, but he is the stick mover, he's the guy getting
- 32:02those hard yards. Outside the hashes, they're
- 32:07running those Slants, give having a big body to be able to
- 32:11get position against smaller Corners.
- 32:14Some of those safeties. So not having him in there.
- 32:18Definitely take some of that size mismatch out of this wide
- 32:22receiver core. Oh yeah, we probably won't have
- 32:25as much in terms of physicality mismatched anymore.
- 32:30They're not so, I mean that that sell for the Hokies will.
- 32:34See if they'll be able to take advantage of it though.
- 32:36Absolutely, be 63. He's 2005.
- 32:39He was having a good season last year before he got injured.
- 32:42So if anything, it's one of those bright hates that bright
- 32:45spot for the Hokey that someone who's been on that stage in that
- 32:49Stadium multiple times, is not there on the field.
- 32:54Now, let's go ahead and look at, you know, coppery Brown. because
- 33:01Donnie's little brother got to go in and replace Big Brother's
- 33:05production from last year and I mean you know, he backs it up he
- 33:08was a four-star out of Charlotte, he's a 449 speed guy
- 33:11to the 40, you know had some plays last year 15 for 337 is
- 33:17big game was against Wake Forest where you got three 476 and a
- 33:21couple touchdowns Can he replace big brothers?
- 33:27Twenty eight hundred yards. That's going to that's to be
- 33:31seen from a physical standpoint. I mean he's every bit of the
- 33:35athlete as his brother probably a hair faster and at the top end
- 33:42we'll see if he's got that game-breaking route running that
- 33:49dichotomy. Brought to the table word is
- 33:52though, that he is questionable or at least limited potentially
- 33:56limited for this game. So we'll see how much we We see
- 34:00of him. He's actually listed kind of as
- 34:04the number two this week and I think that has something to do
- 34:09with them. Not 100% sure whether he's ready
- 34:11to go. So it'll be interesting to see
- 34:15if he's able to play a significant amount of snaps
- 34:18enough snaps to really show us what he's got.
- 34:26Well, thanks, something you mentioned to me in this is this
- 34:28is coming from Braun, so I'm going to give you credit for
- 34:31Brawn. You say about that lower body
- 34:33injury, what? We're going to probably find out
- 34:35quick is if he's able to make those lateral Cuts, can you
- 34:39still run Slants? Can you still run quick moves or
- 34:43if he's just going to be applying to go guy or maybe a
- 34:45post? If you have something that's
- 34:48going to depend on what the injury is, if it's like a hammy
- 34:52that's actually going to be harder to go that top end but if
- 34:55it's if it's something joint related than your, then you're
- 34:58looking at, you know, planning and cutting is going to become a
- 35:01problem. So it really kind of depends on
- 35:03what that lower body injury is but we'll probably find out
- 35:07pretty quick if he gets on the field for a series.
- 35:09What those limitations look like?
- 35:11Yep, I think, either way though, Brian get takes out a dynamic of
- 35:15their offense. It's the hammy and you lose that
- 35:18449 speed to go down field. You know, Tommy Brown kill
- 35:24people last year, and if you cannot eliminate it limits, what
- 35:28he would be able to do. If it's the hammy and he can't
- 35:32get top end on us. That will limit kind of what the
- 35:36tools that he brings to the table if you will.
- 35:39Absolutely. Now obviously Das is gone.
- 35:44You got Josh downs and now the way it looks goddamn, just kind
- 35:48of going to have to be that guy on Friday night.
- 35:53He's primarily going to be working out of the slot.
- 35:55He's definitely a talented kid but that's a that's a lot to ask
- 36:03for his first game out of the gate.
- 36:05Yeah. I'll say this about Downs, the
- 36:08the difference between down Ons, and Das Downs has a little bit
- 36:13more of that over-the-top big play ability than dads.
- 36:16Did we raised as is really good in and out of breaks in, and out
- 36:20of cuts running routes Downs, can hurt, you kind of both ways.
- 36:27So, it'll be interesting as we talked about earlier with, you
- 36:30know, kind of where Sam how it likes to go with the football.
- 36:33Is he gonna end up stretching the seem a little bit more for
- 36:38the Carolina offense this year? Or is it going to be kind of
- 36:42more of what we saw from, from Dad's news from last year, but
- 36:46he's definitely going to be the guy that can break the game.
- 36:49Open for North Carolina against the Hokies on Friday.
- 36:53Yeah. So what it's going to really be
- 36:54interesting to see is, is it because who'd, as was they did
- 36:58not take those shots, basically 15 yards down field in the
- 37:02middle. Or is it something?
- 37:06And you don't feel like it's something with how, or is it
- 37:08something with pal? Maybe that section of the field
- 37:11is just not what he likes to go to.
- 37:14I hope it's the latter, not the former, because that that's much
- 37:19better for the Hokies all around.
- 37:21All right? So we've kind of cleared the
- 37:22wide receiver room. And, you know, they ran over a
- 37:29depleted, Virginia Tech seeing last season.
- 37:32You're right TW o SM. But the reason they did that is
- 37:35they had to NFL running backs who were taken in our draft last
- 37:40night. Brian harder in the seventh
- 37:42round. I believe you, I believe our
- 37:44buddy. Mike took him.
- 37:46Yeah, that that back feels going to be a cluster though.
- 37:49It's gonna be hard to see who's the clearly.
- 37:51That's true, but he's got the potential and you see him and
- 37:55Williams both in the League. Oh yeah, but they bring in touch
- 37:59Handler. Tennessee, transfer to replace
- 38:01him. Third in Tennessee, all-purpose
- 38:03yards from now, Brian before you get into his game analysis,
- 38:08watching the film, I did a statistical breakdown and I've
- 38:11got to share with you, all right?
- 38:14So, how many times do you think Kyle Chandler, whose third and
- 38:19all-purpose yards has carried the ball 15 times M over.
- 38:23He was a Tennessee which is over 45 games.
- 38:28But 23, actually none. He's carried the ball, 15 or
- 38:33more times, nine times. Okay.
- 38:36In those games, he carried it for 166 carries. 786 yards 4.7
- 38:46of Carey. I know it's Tennessee.
- 38:50I know they have been down for basically since they fired full
- 38:54film or 15 years ago that doesn't jump to me.
- 38:59His biggest game he had in that stretch was when they played BYU
- 39:03and he had 26 carries for about 154 yards.
- 39:07His biggest game in general was against UTEP where he had 12
- 39:124181 one was on an 81 yard touchdown run.
- 39:17I know he's got cow but it seems to me when he would get that
- 39:2315-yard threshold. It would not be the five two
- 39:28five and a half yards per carry. You're looking for out of a
- 39:31Workforce that would you see on the paper?
- 39:35Yeah, I mean some of that's the fact that he was a true
- 39:38rotational player with gray in the backfield last year.
- 39:42Primarily they were pretty much alternating series.
- 39:46So some of that can be you know, is is he more of a rhythm bag
- 39:51will in stats? A maybe not?
- 39:56If he's getting the more carries he's getting.
- 39:59And we're not necessarily seeing a big jump up in production, is
- 40:06he going to be a guy that stepping into Williams and
- 40:09Carters role? Or is he going to feel primarily
- 40:12just Williams role because what I see Is that he's a good runner
- 40:20running style. Probably is a little little bit
- 40:22more like Carter good Vision. Ali likes to cut it back, pretty
- 40:28decent patients but he doesn't have that kind of game breaking
- 40:34Talent in the running game against quality competition
- 40:37mentioned UTEP, but I mean that's UTEP.
- 40:41You're supposed to do that against Utah.
- 40:43If you show me, you breaking a 50-yarder against SEC schools
- 40:48and I'll say, okay, let's let's have a conversation, but I
- 40:53didn't see a ton of big plays from it.
- 40:55I saw it a, some, some good vision and some solid yards, a
- 41:00couple - plays, he's really fluid in the pass game though.
- 41:03Catches the ball. Well gets up field.
- 41:07Makes guys missing space and I'll talk a little bit more
- 41:10about his blocking here. So when he's chipping, when he's
- 41:14helping when it's designed he does a good A job when he's got
- 41:18to pick up blitzes, all bets are off.
- 41:22Oh really? Yes, because we blitzed about
- 41:27one, every three plays last year, with jehan's defense.
- 41:32So, I mean, I saw him with a couple times.
- 41:36I saw him get the wrong, read a couple times, so I mean, there's
- 41:39definitely potential there to get him confused.
- 41:42If he's blocking for Sam, how now the difference between what
- 41:46Tennessee was doing and It UNC does is that they are a little
- 41:51bit quicker with the trigger in that RPO.
- 41:54Okay? The balls, the balls at a lot
- 41:56more fluid than it was for Tennessee last season.
- 41:59I've got you. Now one thing you just mentioned
- 42:01and I think probably maybe what he is going to satisfy is
- 42:05quarter and Williams combined for about 550 receiving yards
- 42:10last year. In maybe that's what he is.
- 42:13Maybe he takes that element, that's his element.
- 42:17With I don't, I can't foresee this guy.
- 42:20I can't foresee right now. This guy getting 1,400 yards.
- 42:24I mean, he might replace one of their production.
- 42:26I don't foresee him coming in and putting up a Khalil Herbert
- 42:31type season. All right, well for employee an
- 42:33employee 1211 hundred yards last year, the own both under 160
- 42:40carries That's where they kill people.
- 42:43It wasn't. It was they split that backfield
- 42:46perfectly. They both averaged over seven
- 42:48and Carrie and I see Lana well they were explosive and
- 42:53efficient. And I think that's the thing is
- 42:55that, you know, I think when you bring in a tie Chandler, you'll
- 42:59get the efficiency. I don't know if you're going to
- 43:01get the explosion night in night out.
- 43:06We'll see, we'll see if maybe some of their younger back
- 43:09devil. Again, they've got talent and
- 43:11they come out quickly step to the plate.
- 43:13And again, between the running backs and wide receivers
- 43:16replacing career. 10,000 scrimmage yards, which is
- 43:20insane. Hi, Brian.
- 43:22I'm not even going to go too much on this guy.
- 43:25Seemed Richard, the left tackle, anchor in the line.
- 43:28What do you see on the three-star?
- 43:31I see kind of a slightly better version of Luke tenuto, okay.
- 43:38White slate. They remind me a lot of each
- 43:41other pretty solid. In, in the Run game, I'd say,
- 43:44very, very much above average to, you know, borderline good
- 43:49Memorial angry. I should say, past Pro is hit or
- 43:55miss, and a lot of it depends on how well is Richards gets.
- 44:01Sassette and that first punch when he does.
- 44:05Well he gets those first two steps in there.
- 44:09He likes you down, he does a good job of staying in front of
- 44:11the man. Once he stopped that initial
- 44:13burst, he is susceptible to the speed rush.
- 44:17It is if he misses the punch it's very much an ugly
- 44:20situation. We saw that how thankfully for
- 44:25them gets the ball out quick, but they took a lot of sex last
- 44:28year or not and that's not knocking Richard.
- 44:31I think he's a very solid left tackle, but I think there are
- 44:35some holes in this game. I think we can exploit,
- 44:37especially with the Mari bar know.
- 44:42Absolutely and Brian is we were looking through data tape me,
- 44:47and you look back to the Notre Dame game last year, when
- 44:51Carolina, then pooped up late, November.
- 44:54And in that game for Notre, Dame, a gentleman by the name of
- 45:01How to come bow. I'm going to Nisha
- 45:05six-foot-five, 260 pounds. Two sacks two tackles for loss.
- 45:12I know you look a little bit of that tape.
- 45:13Does he remind you were born of little bit, little bit little
- 45:18bit and that wasn't a great game for Richards.
- 45:25And overall it wasn't a great game for that offensive line.
- 45:28When we talk about the offensive line in general.
- 45:31They had really good games against us and a couple other
- 45:34guys last year. But they were, they were very
- 45:36much a steady to up and down line at other points of the
- 45:40season. So there they are veteran.
- 45:42They know they've played with with each other a lot.
- 45:45They've got a lot of snaps under their belt but they're not Elite
- 45:50at any individual position across that board right now,
- 45:54their experience and the system that they're in is their biggest
- 45:59attribute. I think they did a good job of
- 46:04taking advantage of a very depleted.
- 46:07Secondary, and overall defense for the Hokies last year.
- 46:13And I think, while you may not see some Elite level defensive
- 46:17play against UNC, you're going to definitely see some
- 46:20improvement. Absolutely.
- 46:22And again, the big part was the sacks last year.
- 46:25They were like 115, the nation giving up sex and you know we
- 46:31got pass rush last year we just couldn't stop the damn gun.
- 46:34I think I will be key for this year and so little Gap.
- 46:37I'm I'll say it again Gap. You could drive a bus through it
- 46:43on like 60% of the Damned rushing plays last year.
- 46:48It was ridiculous. Some of it was it looked like
- 46:53just not getting in the right Gap, linebackers sometimes the
- 46:57safety. I watched one play where it
- 47:02looked like two people had had versed spill responsibilities on
- 47:07the same side and somebody else took a gap in the beat, like,
- 47:11dude began just wide open there. I'm like, what, what are y'all
- 47:15doing? You gotta even better if you're
- 47:17going to get this, Well, if you don't plug up be cab, they're
- 47:20just going to run right at the middle of the damn defense and
- 47:24we got safeties back there that had played like 30 snaps and
- 47:27their damn career Walk-Ons. Yeah, Kamal Kahn saving me back
- 47:32there and I think that's the key I mean as we get into and what
- 47:38do I predicts is in a while here, though?
- 47:39It's going to be how they run the ball, while we focused on
- 47:42time, Chandler. What we're going to look at this
- 47:45Prime and we talked about it just a little bit earlier.
- 47:47We talked about about the defensive alignment.
- 47:50We know we're a little thin at defensive end to me and you
- 47:54started chatting and we started chatting about that potential
- 47:58and it was said by someone, maybe it was am in called area
- 48:03about potentially Jordan Williams and orell, Pollard
- 48:06potentially having the versatility to play in.
- 48:10Now, folks, when we say play in, we're not talking about them
- 48:14playing outside of the tackles shoulder like a maribor know,
- 48:18No, in Taiwan Barbara crying. Explain what we're thinking
- 48:23about them doing it. When they have someone like a
- 48:25combination of our, no fuga, Hendrix and norell Pollard on
- 48:32the field. You got to see a bigger line,
- 48:36you're probably going to see. Probably going to see that go
- 48:40towards the strength of the formation.
- 48:43In most cases if they're going to go heavy you're going to have
- 48:46that. That d-tackle that's that slide
- 48:50out. They'll be, they'll be towards
- 48:51the towards the tight end. They're probably going to be
- 48:55heads up. All the tackle, probably given
- 49:00to to Gap responsibilities. In this case, if we end up going
- 49:05that way, just because of their size and the need there.
- 49:09But what we're looking at is that gives a little bit more
- 49:12flexibility and d-tackle. The question becomes for that to
- 49:17work and for how build cheer link likes to substitute lines
- 49:22on the D line, you're going to have to have a Max Philpott play
- 49:26significant snaps for you because now you're one of your
- 49:30second line D. Tackles is getting, you know,
- 49:36potentially a lot of snaps out their DN So a guy like Max
- 49:41Philpott is probably going to have to play a significant
- 49:43amount of snaps in order to accommodate that.
- 49:47All right, so there's that defensive.
- 49:50Lineman thing we were talking about, guys, about potentially
- 49:53one of the defensive tackles who had that capability is 25
- 49:57technique, Brian? Right?
- 49:59Yep. Five technique find the five
- 50:01technique for folks, who are, if you want to get an idea of what
- 50:05this looks like. And this is what I'm going to
- 50:07revert you to go. Look at the San Francisco, 49ers
- 50:11defense of the last few years. Under Robert solow, the New York
- 50:14Jets current defense. If you really want to get At the
- 50:18most unequivocally great version of it.
- 50:21Go both back at the legion of boom.
- 50:24When they were running Cover, 3 and cover three buzz with Cam.
- 50:28They essentially had a big defensive end.
- 50:31It was more of a defensive tackle right over one of the
- 50:35tackle positions and then they have someone at like the eight
- 50:38or nine technique wide. And the goal of it is that's
- 50:43where the pass rush coming from. We have a quick interior guy
- 50:46that can get up through your guards, but our goal is, you're
- 50:49not going to run the ball. I'm going to stop you from
- 50:52running the ball and if you do, we know where you're going to
- 50:55attempt to run the ball, and we're going to have atletic
- 50:58linebackers get into those gaps. So go back with those tapes.
- 51:01That's our thought process, go Brian.
- 51:04We've already discussed the receivers.
- 51:06You mean, you went into the coverages?
- 51:07When I gave you this data, you scream, something at me and I'll
- 51:11let you scream it again. Brian last year, 60% of the
- 51:14time. Virginia Tech played a cover,
- 51:16three of cover for quartered. What do you think we doing
- 51:19against Carolina? We're going cover six quarters
- 51:24to the left as much as possible. And why are we doing this?
- 51:30Because we're trying to take away where Sam, Howell likes to
- 51:33go deep with the football. And if you take away, we're
- 51:37saying how likes to go deep with the football.
- 51:41You're not going to get railroaded.
- 51:45He might beat you by a Thousand Cuts.
- 51:49But when you have to make 1,000 Cuts, you can eventually Miss
- 51:53eventually make a mistake look at look at the scores, the
- 51:57majority of the scores last year.
- 51:59It was big plays in the running game.
- 52:01Big shots to the end. I Ami Brown.
- 52:04Yep. That was like, what 28 or 35 of
- 52:09their points? Let me, let me get the old score
- 52:13up here. Let me every it real quick
- 52:15because I have it up here. Together, is everything in real
- 52:18time. They're waiting for last year,
- 52:21they consider that one of their greatest seasons of all time.
- 52:23Don't forget that folk. That was one of their various
- 52:25seasons of all time. All right, here we go.
- 52:29Doni Brown 37-yard past ayami ground. 43 yard pass.
- 52:32They were both touchdowns. 55 go.
- 52:36Well, Michael Carter 62-yard run, the 21 of their 56 points
- 52:44were big plate, stores heard, 30 yards or more.
- 52:48That's not even counting the numerous times.
- 52:51They broke Midfield on US, 20 plus short runs.
- 52:55So The goal here is front, let's just say quarters, take away the
- 53:01deep and Phil friggin be Gap. If we just someone fill it, it's
- 53:06going to be a little better than last year.
- 53:08Honestly, if everyone's in a gap in our safeties and and outside
- 53:13guys are in The Spill Lanes, the way they need to be.
- 53:18Just just getting there is half the battle.
- 53:20That was a big problem. Last year, we weren't fucking
- 53:22there. Terrible.
- 53:25Was it that we were? We weren't making the plays.
- 53:27We weren't even fucking there. Yeah.
- 53:30Alright Braun. Let's, let's go to the other
- 53:32side of the ball because as much as we want to knock in all crap
- 53:39and I know it was a lot of hinted hooker.
- 53:41We scored 45 points on this defense last year.
- 53:44It would have been more if there were several calls when I won't
- 53:47go into that place. As I've talked about it about
- 53:496,000 times in the last nine months.
- 53:53But let's start with these guns, let's start with the defensive
- 53:55line Looks colorful five brothers, you got some re6 1293
- 54:01store out of Georgia. Last year, forty six, tackles
- 54:03six tackles for loss for sacks. His brother to mind is the
- 54:08outside linebacker also three-star, 63 to 68 pletely
- 54:12different body, kite different style, thirty six, tackles 10
- 54:16and a half for loss. Seven sacks.
- 54:20What do each of them? Bring to the table and let's
- 54:22start with tamari the bigger the tube.
- 54:26He's got a motor for a big guy and that's what scares me.
- 54:33And if I had to pick a poison with this to Tamari is scarier
- 54:38to me, and that's only because he's going to do a good job of
- 54:44containing, some of our Run game, but he's also going to
- 54:48impact the past game with that motor.
- 54:52Now, in terms of just being afraid of our quarterback taken
- 54:55a hit and potentially get injured.
- 54:58Come on Fox man. He's got he's got speed good
- 55:02combination of size and speed kind of I mean they've got that
- 55:07you know it's the 245 it's a hybrid defense.
- 55:14You know a lot of times Timon Fox is out there standing up.
- 55:18Sometimes he's a stand-up Edge rusher sometimes he's just an
- 55:23outside linebacker. Sometimes it's got his hand in
- 55:25the dirt. They will Switch up their
- 55:28alignments, the entire game. So you got to be ready for it
- 55:32and Temari is the player that scares me but the versatility of
- 55:38Timon Fox and how he can kind of do a lot of different things for
- 55:40that defense is, why he's such a valuable asset for them.
- 55:46Absolutely. And obviously, folks, we check
- 55:50in with our buddies who coach and everything like that, and
- 55:53our buddy, Robbie company was, you know, back there in our camp
- 55:56episode, get him up tonight for a little while and he said, keep
- 56:00an eye on the other on the younger defensive ends, he shown
- 56:05silver, and I looked up, silver. He was a cop dirty player last
- 56:08year for star 63 285 pounds. That sounds like he is a Kumari
- 56:14pops. Whoa.
- 56:15Home just about. So it's another name, I don't
- 56:18know if we'll see him this year where he is on the depth chart
- 56:21with just one of those guys. All right, Brian, let's roll
- 56:24from the defensive line because the line back and forth and, you
- 56:29know, they are having to play replaced Chaser Rod. 91, tackles
- 56:36seven-and-a-half, tackles for loss, six sites, an
- 56:40interception. I mean, he essentially what he
- 56:43did, It essentially, you better use recording that tally, okay?
- 56:50He was the quarterback of that defense much like he had been
- 56:54the quarterback previously. He's got to be replaced Braun.
- 57:01And unfortunately, he's being replaced by a guy.
- 57:04We way too much interest in just a few years ago and you giant
- 57:08Gene Asante out of Westfield, the four-star here in Virginia.
- 57:11So they make a mistake with the top 10 player.
- 57:15Shit. We've been talking about for the
- 57:16last few years you could top 10 guys and state because he would
- 57:20be having to do something in our defensive, she, if he was still
- 57:24here, but Brian, he had five games.
- 57:27Last year, playing 24, tackles the amount of production.
- 57:31He has to replace is insane. What does he have to do to
- 57:34become? I mean, I'm not saying replaced.
- 57:38Uh, I don't think you're a place that would become efficient
- 57:40enough to where it doesn't hurt their defense.
- 57:44So he's were also replacing production but also the
- 57:48quarterback of the defense which is ironic because he was
- 57:50previously, a quarterback himself and sohrab that's going
- 57:56to be the bigger thing for Eugenia, Santi has begun to
- 57:59replace that because they dig it up some run yards last year but
- 58:04he was kind of the Chester right was acting as the kind of the
- 58:08cleaner, right? He's the guy that based on a
- 58:13line In some kind of the hybrid things they do, he was able to
- 58:17clean up the messes where those, you know, eight or ten yard
- 58:20games didn't turn into 40 or 50 yard games, he's making all
- 58:24those tackles just beyond a lot of scrimmage, but he was also
- 58:27versatile enough to give the backfield and cause some Havoc
- 58:31there, as well. Asante is a very gifted athlete
- 58:36in a good tackler. I don't think he's going to have
- 58:39a huge problem stepping into that role.
- 58:42That the question is going to be, is that does he?
- 58:44Have enough experience between what he had last year and
- 58:49spring. And now fall Camp to kind of
- 58:52step into that quarterback role of the defense because that's
- 58:54going to be just as important as those physical abilities.
- 58:58Yeah. And that's going to be.
- 59:00Maybe the that's probably going to be less.
- 59:02That's probably not left. That's probably where we're
- 59:04going to see. It is because with the rat you
- 59:08said something to me that caught my eye this week, we were
- 59:10talking about Jasper at with Chaz Surat.
- 59:13Everybody was going to be exactly where they needed to be,
- 59:16and he was going to be going to clean up the being cleaner.
- 59:20You just said a few minutes ago be in the cleaner.
- 59:23The thing is, if the guys aren't in the right place, it's a hell
- 59:27of a lot tougher. Clear to go in there and clean
- 59:30it up. If three guys are have a slime
- 59:32versus nobody out of line and it's very true.
- 59:36I think that's the big piece now.
- 59:37I think where it does benefit is he did get to see Surratt do it
- 59:41last year in a way. But, you know, let me ask, let
- 59:47me ask this. How good is he going to have to
- 59:53be because I think the way me and you feel about it is Taylor
- 59:57Robinson. James Mitchell are going to be
- 1:00:01coming over that middle and attacking a real weakness of the
- 1:00:06safeties. And then the inexperience of one
- 1:00:10of the linebackers. Yeah.
- 1:00:12And I'll talk about this a little more when we get to the
- 1:00:14corner backs here in a little bit but it's going to be very
- 1:00:18important because I feel like the game plan, we're going to
- 1:00:21come in with is run the football work, the slot work that we're
- 1:00:25at the seam work, the digs, We're going to put pressure on
- 1:00:31the middle part of that defense, because we're going to try to
- 1:00:37get more guys in the box. And we're going to try to get a
- 1:00:41little bit more cushion on the outside.
- 1:00:43So we can start working some of our receivers with with without
- 1:00:48as much pressure on them because they are going to Be physical as
- 1:00:52hell at the line of scrimmage at the quarterback position.
- 1:00:57And the guy he had felt amounts will be physical.
- 1:00:59As hell, is formed up 61 205 guy that in 2019 really came into
- 1:01:07the spotlight when we played a few games last year, got
- 1:01:12injured, but he's back this year and then obviously, you're a
- 1:01:16hockey fan. It is someone that needs
- 1:01:18absolutely no introduction to you.
- 1:01:20The type R, 20 grams out of the 75 who eventually got out of
- 1:01:26high school, quick got to Carolina quick played last year.
- 1:01:31What do you think those together from?
- 1:01:34Well looking at their depth chart Grimes locked up the
- 1:01:36number one quarterback position which is impressive for a guy
- 1:01:41that as of this point at the earliest he would be should have
- 1:01:46been on campus in January ended up being on campus last year in
- 1:01:51the fall. Got a full year out of it, in
- 1:01:55terms of playing on the field and Wow he's really stepped into
- 1:01:58a role there where he is the alpha dog in that secondary.
- 1:02:03But there's a couple other guys that I think in terms of
- 1:02:07physicality or probably a little more physical than he is and
- 1:02:11that's you already mentioned stormed up but also Kyler
- 1:02:13McMichael their kind of the the 2A and 2B at that other
- 1:02:18quarterback side and you know we've known about duck, the
- 1:02:21question with him, it's going to be kidding return physically to
- 1:02:24the level of play, he was at in 29. 19.
- 1:02:29And but McMichael got a lot of run last year.
- 1:02:32He showed that he was, he was physical.
- 1:02:34He's got some holes in his game in terms of occasionally, let
- 1:02:38some of the guys get behind him but he will hit you at the line
- 1:02:42of scrimmage Jam. You up, make sure you can't get
- 1:02:44to the spot in your route. You want to get to So Brian, let
- 1:02:49me ask this real quick. Let's answer that question
- 1:02:54first, because it makes sense of what we're talking about here
- 1:02:56with duck and Grimes. Brian do you think a wide
- 1:02:58receivers going to go over 1,000?
- 1:03:00Or that's at boy, tally shouting out and we're going to consider
- 1:03:03James Mitchell on that too. Can we go over 100 yards against
- 1:03:06this team again sometime? I think we're going to struggle
- 1:03:10to go over 100 yards, especially if we were not able to establish
- 1:03:14a run early in the game how well we are able to pass the ball.
- 1:03:19Going to be predicated on the fact that we're able to
- 1:03:22efficiently gash them in the running game and do it early.
- 1:03:27Unlike last year where we essentially took a quarter and a
- 1:03:30half to get going in the Run game, we need to come out and we
- 1:03:33need to get some yards against them quick where they're going
- 1:03:36to have to commit another safe. D into the box and they're going
- 1:03:40to have to start backing off coverage a little bit at the
- 1:03:45quarterback position. Yep.
- 1:03:47And that's a big key, right? If the beginning, that's a big
- 1:03:51key because a lot of what we do, we don't just line up and run
- 1:03:55past guys, right? Like that that we do.
- 1:03:58We're staying that's not our game.
- 1:03:59Yeah, we scheme, Guys open. You know, we run some
- 1:04:04misdirection and run a guy on a cross country route like we did
- 1:04:08with Taylor Robinson against Clemson last year.
- 1:04:12The, you know, there's a lot of plays like that if we're going
- 1:04:14to generate big plays, it's not. Okay, we'll Trace running to go
- 1:04:19like that, that has never been our game, so I think we're going
- 1:04:23to struggle if we can't get get out of some of that.
- 1:04:27So kind of what you're saying is get the, get the wrong game
- 1:04:31going. Consistently, probably Outside
- 1:04:32Inside Zone would get sweets there.
- 1:04:35Eight plus yards, a carry pop Mitchell, take over the middle
- 1:04:40in, hopefully a variety of ways, maybe some inside screens, some
- 1:04:45screens babies. Some out, some digs, maybe you
- 1:04:49see a seam or are posed to James Mitchell.
- 1:04:53You want those safety somewhere between 10 to 15 if you don't
- 1:04:59want them sitting 1520 further. Because if they're sitting 10 to
- 1:05:0215 and we're popping them over and over, eventually your hope
- 1:05:07is tray or traoré. Jaden, they missed the jam,
- 1:05:13there's no safety support. And we go over to the table
- 1:05:17where now now Jay Bateman got to make a decision, right?
- 1:05:22Yep. Gabe.
- 1:05:23And I mean you know you know you're going to see some Jet
- 1:05:25Sweep. There's gonna be Jeff suites
- 1:05:28with the guys we have it now I'll say this I think a wide
- 1:05:31receiver might go over 100 all-purpose yards I'd be willing
- 1:05:35to take that bet. I'll be I'll be damn sure
- 1:05:37willing to take that bet but saying over 100 is going to
- 1:05:41depend on how well we come out the gate running the ball and
- 1:05:44working the Underneath game inside the numbers.
- 1:05:51So, you know, we're kind of laying out here with things that
- 1:05:57we need to do folks. In hoping you guys are seeing it
- 1:06:02in. Some of you have already went
- 1:06:04ahead, click the, my cat boundary corner, be p.com and
- 1:06:09gave us your predictions for this game, some thoughts from
- 1:06:14the Terrordome. So, before me and Brian, Give I
- 1:06:20predictions. We're going to hear yours.
- 1:06:29This is true. It my prediction for you know
- 1:06:42like 30 to 24. I think we got a good feeling
- 1:06:47about it. Virginia Tech doesn't going to
- 1:06:50Win It. Go Hokies or thighs from win
- 1:06:52this game. 38 228 is my prediction.
- 1:06:57I think we met things. Sing the first half, but I think
- 1:07:01second half north side. Steps up makes plays and make
- 1:07:05more plays than us having Sam. How in the backfield is going to
- 1:07:10be the other difference because our historically bad second.
- 1:07:13Half defense is going to give up just too many big plays and
- 1:07:19having lack of depth on the defensive line is not going to
- 1:07:24help either, but I think North Kana asumi too many big plays
- 1:07:28for us to Top and win this game. Also.
- 1:07:30Another safe prediction is Braxton Burmeister over nine and
- 1:07:34a half. Rosters.
- 1:07:36And over two and a half just sleep easily take those overs
- 1:07:43Okies win. 69, 20 go Okies 34-28 UNC, All right, so we have 4
- 1:07:53predictions that came through there.
- 1:07:55We got to for the Hokies to for the Tar.
- 1:07:58Heels scores seem to be kind of around that upper 20s low to mid
- 1:08:0430s range. Are you talking about 69?
- 1:08:07Nothing. Well, I'll be, are we counting
- 1:08:10that one in terms of a realistic outcome?
- 1:08:12Or is it all just? Yes, we are.
- 1:08:14Yes, shoutout, Jeremy hokey pharmacist.
- 1:08:17If you've ever heard him talk, you know, it's him if you hurt
- 1:08:20her episode night with this, Amber.
- 1:08:22You know that's him - Jameson overcame can do know that this
- 1:08:27town. All right so it's time to give
- 1:08:30our predictions and I'm going to leave Brian.
- 1:08:33Alright. And the last time we saw the
- 1:08:36Hokies a-133 15 over, you be a three-game, the Commonwealth
- 1:08:40cup, a few games before that in a semi drunken rage after
- 1:08:47Liberty. Ice cream.
- 1:08:48We should fire the coach. I still believe he should have
- 1:08:50been fired. I do That's just my feelings on
- 1:08:53it. But he's our coach this year and
- 1:08:55we support, I got this in the mail the other day.
- 1:08:58Folks, you probably did too. And I'm seeing this game.
- 1:09:07Shoutout, Brian, Walkers and UNC does suck.
- 1:09:09I'm regret sir. I am seeing this game.
- 1:09:12Similar to West Virginia, Virginia Tech back in 2017,
- 1:09:18okay? Go on.
- 1:09:20It is going to be a close game. It is going to be a nail-biter,
- 1:09:23it is literally going to come down at the end of the game.
- 1:09:26The Hokie defense versus Sam. How versus a Heisman candidate.
- 1:09:32Hi. Ranked team and I'm going to say
- 1:09:36similar what happened to Will Grier happens.
- 1:09:39The same how Hokies when 3831 All right, you put yours in
- 1:09:46there. I will put my name on this one.
- 1:09:49I see a very similar game to the regulation, portion of 2019.
- 1:09:58Injured, quarterback injuries and all that shit aside.
- 1:10:02I think it's one of those games that we're going to have a lead
- 1:10:05at one point of this game. They're going to have a lead at
- 1:10:07one point in this game it's going to be a little bit of back
- 1:10:09and forth. The difference I see is that I
- 1:10:12think Sam houses with a little more seasoning gets it done in
- 1:10:17the fourth quarter, I think it's going to be a 38-34 victory for
- 1:10:21the Tar Heels Alright so right? Both of those down, folks, we
- 1:10:26did not waver from last week's even predictions on this game
- 1:10:30Prime video with UNC. I did go Virginia Tech and
- 1:10:34Primal, ask you real quick because you're a hockey fan and
- 1:10:37yes, I am. I know your head told you UNC.
- 1:10:41Your heart is telling you the hope in for you because you have
- 1:10:46the experience of playing Collegiate football coaching.
- 1:10:49High School football, what has to happen in your mind?
- 1:10:54To change your mind, to your heart pick and for the Hokies
- 1:10:57win this game. So to me, it's two things we
- 1:11:00already talked about a little bit.
- 1:11:01We need to establish the run and work the short passing game
- 1:11:06between those numbers early. Get them kind of out of what
- 1:11:10they want to do on defense especially against our wide
- 1:11:13receivers on the other side of the ball.
- 1:11:19The big thing we need to do begat begat stop the damn run.
- 1:11:23If we can get them. Them where we can contain that
- 1:11:26running game. A one-dimensional, Sam house.
- 1:11:31You don't want it, but it's a whole lot more desirable.
- 1:11:35I'd rather say I'm how dropped back 45 times and have to deal
- 1:11:38with an RPO all damn night. Damn right, you damn, right.
- 1:11:42It's that run. Game is stop lat.
- 1:11:45If we stop that running game 75% from the hundred percent, it was
- 1:11:49last year, I think that the W along with some better offensive
- 1:11:52play, calling it Yes, but I am not going to degress anymore
- 1:11:57about that, but both of you have it on paper, but I'm giving you
- 1:12:01his head pick, give you as hard pick what he thinks has to
- 1:12:04happen. Give you my pic 3831 but we
- 1:12:08aren't done yet. Tonight, folks, as always, you
- 1:12:11know, maybe 834. Um, so you're fine.
- 1:12:16Uh, Because every game. Yeah, I want to, you know, I
- 1:12:23want to well, by all means. If Brian sees things breaking
- 1:12:28early, I think you need to be checking out the BC and his
- 1:12:30Twitter feed on Friday night. He's probably going to be
- 1:12:33putting it's going the right direction because I think Brian.
- 1:12:37You also told me, if we win this game, you think we're going to
- 1:12:40break for tea, right? I think we're probably going to
- 1:12:44have to break for tea. I think Sam how even with an
- 1:12:47improved The Hokie defense this year, I think he's going to be
- 1:12:50hitting somewhere in the mid 30s.
- 1:12:53I think they're just going to be that efficient even with some of
- 1:12:56the rust from breaking in new players and having a couple guys
- 1:12:59out and losing all that production.
- 1:13:01I think there's still going to be a potent offense.
- 1:13:05The question is going to be is, are they, are they putting up
- 1:13:07those points while trailing us and that that's in our favor?
- 1:13:11God, if they're if they're playing catch-up That's in our
- 1:13:15favor. All right folks, let's jump off
- 1:13:20the hoagies and let's look at the full Collegiate landscape.
- 1:13:24We're going to be picking ten games here and then just looking
- 1:13:27tomorrow night you know it starts man, cave will be in full
- 1:13:32effect tomorrow night of has eight plays Minnesota USF, NC
- 1:13:36State Boise, UCF. I mean, it is a fully loaded
- 1:13:41Thursday night with some good games, you know, certain guy but
- 1:13:46Minnesota. De is a people say you should
- 1:13:49come here next. I don't know how that works but
- 1:13:51we'll see. We're not going to take pain
- 1:13:53just because Minnesota is not ranked.
- 1:13:55Well, we are going to pick some ACC game to Brian.
- 1:13:58Let's start with NC State - 18 and a half against South
- 1:14:03Florida. With an over-under of 59.
- 1:14:06I'm going to jump on this one first Prime coaster take, USF,
- 1:14:11will give me the 18 and a half tons?
- 1:14:13Okay, okay. I don't think USF is going to
- 1:14:17Get probably 220 points. I don't foresee that but I don't
- 1:14:23see NC State getting much more than 30.
- 1:14:27I think NC State wins the game in hand.
- 1:14:29I think it's never in doubt, but I think 18 and a half is way too
- 1:14:32much going on this. So, give me USF.
- 1:14:35What about you? What are you doing with those
- 1:14:37points? I think NC State's going to
- 1:14:41cover. I like what they're bringing to
- 1:14:44the table this year I think I'm having a little more stability
- 1:14:47on the offense are going to be a much more balanced offensive
- 1:14:49attack this year and I think they're going to probably get
- 1:14:54into the upper 30s low 40s and I think that's going to be just
- 1:14:58enough to get probably about a 20 Point Victory there and going
- 1:15:02victory that is on tomorrow night folks, check it out even
- 1:15:06though we're not playing NC State this year.
- 1:15:10Keep an eye ground, your ACC team up.
- 1:15:12Cali says, NC State's going on all over them.
- 1:15:15Tally. If you can hear me or are you
- 1:15:17taking or laying the points with NC State?
- 1:15:21And what I'm going to do here is I'm going to move to the next
- 1:15:24one. If we get tallies responsible,
- 1:15:25will include it. All right.
- 1:15:27Brian Duke is laying six points against UNC.
- 1:15:31Charlotte will Healey and name. We've heard a lot of over under
- 1:15:3460 and a half. Who are you taking with the
- 1:15:38point P guy Duke? But barely I think that's going
- 1:15:44to be Barely. Yeah, I think that's a touchdown
- 1:15:50game. I'm with you on that.
- 1:15:53I think it is too. I don't think UNC Charlotte's
- 1:15:55there yet even though you didn't read full you know I think they
- 1:16:00figure out a way to win seven to ten points, the 60 and a half, I
- 1:16:06feel like that's way too low. You we saw UNC Charlotte last
- 1:16:11year. We've seen huge defense.
- 1:16:12I think that might be the play. Might actually not to be on the
- 1:16:15line because it could be that, you know, Duke went by Four
- 1:16:18Points because you know, they block a field goal or um but I
- 1:16:23think 60 and a half is not the number there to go with what I
- 1:16:26would look at the over under Oh lay in the eighteen and a half.
- 1:16:31All right, like that down. I'm with him.
- 1:16:34However in GM, lighten it up high let's roll onto another ACC
- 1:16:39game on Saturday, Syracuse is laying Three points against
- 1:16:46Ohio, they're acutely. Don't you leave me like this
- 1:16:51with you don't, I'm with what you've got written down here.
- 1:16:54Already give me a high. Oh, give me out, right?
- 1:16:57So I'm going to take those Point.
- 1:16:59Let's go. Yeah, Ohio winning out, right?
- 1:17:02Lock, it the hell up. Yes.
- 1:17:06Because, I mean, I mean, how is always a good match program and
- 1:17:12I know the head coach, Frank solich just left a few years ago
- 1:17:15Go or just left earlier this year, always had a good program.
- 1:17:19They always given when they played the bigger teams, they
- 1:17:21always golf ball. Now you're going to put a bad
- 1:17:25Power 5 team in there at teams, going to win by the way.
- 1:17:28Big mistake Nebraska ever made Fireman Frank solich 20-plus
- 1:17:32years ago. Biggest mistake they ever made
- 1:17:35crush this. All right, let's go back and
- 1:17:39look at a pretty big matchup on Sunday.
- 1:17:41We have Sunday football post, 7:30 things going to be on ABC
- 1:17:48Notre Dame, FSU Notre. Dame is laying seven and a half,
- 1:17:54Brian, what do you think on this one?
- 1:17:58This is the one that I wasn't sure where I wanted to go.
- 1:18:04I'm still don't trust trust Notre Dame.
- 1:18:08So what I'm going with here is that this is the first chance
- 1:18:12for what is probably a very middle of the pack FSU team to
- 1:18:19essentially play the game of their life.
- 1:18:22Okay? Now the gate and I think I think
- 1:18:25they keep it close enough. I don't think they went out
- 1:18:27right, but I think it's like a six-point game.
- 1:18:30So okay. Ah not so fast man.
- 1:18:35Just we discussed it with disgust with Brett, just a few
- 1:18:39days ago about although Notre Dame is replacing some Allen on
- 1:18:42offense and defense is nasty, it is.
- 1:18:47And if we saw FSU last year they just don't, they don't other
- 1:18:51than playing Caroline? And they did not look like the
- 1:18:53rest of the year. I think seven and a half is too
- 1:18:56low. I think this is somewhere
- 1:18:58between a 14 to 17 point game because personally, I don't
- 1:19:01think fsu's going to get to 17 and I Eventually it's the old.
- 1:19:06Your defense is athletic but eventually the team that has
- 1:19:10Chris Tyree and even though Jack's going up, Jack cone is
- 1:19:13not as mobile as Ian book once Chris Tyree Peppers that middle
- 1:19:17of the lineup. They're going to take some shots
- 1:19:19and they're going to hit. So give me the Irish.
- 1:19:21Lay the seven and a half points, folks.
- 1:19:24Hi Brian. If we're crazy enough after
- 1:19:27probably watching somewhere in the neighborhood in the next.
- 1:19:30Four days. I'm going to give our over under
- 1:19:3330 hours of football. Yeah, 30 that sounds about
- 1:19:37right. Probably four hours tomorrow
- 1:19:39night. There will be mass mass
- 1:19:41consumption of the the college, football's over the next if we
- 1:19:47can form, a cab is exactly. If we can make it to Monday
- 1:19:50night, 8:00 kick Louisville, Ole Miss Hi, you led the last one?
- 1:19:56I'm leading this one lane kiffin likes to score points. 75 and a
- 1:20:00half is not enough. If that guy can put 50 plus
- 1:20:03point on a Nick Saban defense, he is going to shreds got
- 1:20:06shatter field to defense in a heartbeat in a heartbeat. 10
- 1:20:10points is not enough. You think of the amount of
- 1:20:13talent that Louisville had on offense last year to two Outlaws
- 1:20:16in the NFL, the running backs in the NFL, they're not bringing
- 1:20:21anybody back. We saw last year with Virginia
- 1:20:23Tech sothis and we could put 40 on them without blinking.
- 1:20:28Load it up, take the over. I think this game is going to be
- 1:20:32somewhere like 5630 and that sounds very well, miss easily
- 1:20:38easily covered it. Yeah.
- 1:20:41Give me Ole Miss with both barrels and Lane kiffin is going
- 1:20:45to run it up. That's what Lane does.
- 1:20:49Unless he does and he gets fired on par Max.
- 1:20:55Alright. Alright let's jump over to the
- 1:20:57Big Ten first thing. They've got a couple big
- 1:20:59matchups this week and the biggest one is the Wisconsin
- 1:21:04Penn State game in Madison at Camp.
- 1:21:07Randall, let's jump around a little bit.
- 1:21:10Over under 50 Wisconsin is lame. Five and a half on.
- 1:21:15What do you think on this one? This is another one I struggled
- 1:21:20with when I was looking at the line, but I think whiskies going
- 1:21:23to get a get a touchdown Victory here.
- 1:21:28I'm still, I'm a little unsure shaky, I'm a little shaky with
- 1:21:33what Wisconsin's bring to the table this year, but I think
- 1:21:36they've got enough playing at home to pull out a seven-point
- 1:21:40victory over Penn State. All right I do think Wisconsin
- 1:21:44is going to win the game but I think five and a half is too
- 1:21:46much I think this is truly more like a big nothing.
- 1:21:48This is literally going to be a field goal game.
- 1:21:51I think Wisconsin does win because of the home-field
- 1:21:54advantage. So give me Penn State.
- 1:21:56I am going to take the points there.
- 1:22:01I think it's gonna be a hell of a way to kick-off Moon,
- 1:22:03regardless, what happens, Friday night.
- 1:22:05And this is one thing I like about playing Friday night, even
- 1:22:09as bad as it could be and we dealt with as bad as it could be
- 1:22:13because they will ever get worse 2019 you can carbon part
- 1:22:17mentalize it, you can put it away, wake up you can eat a good
- 1:22:20breakfast whether you make it yourself or me calling the
- 1:22:25column boy jumps and getting some biscuits and gravy sent
- 1:22:27over to the house, you know? So, this gets and gravy you need
- 1:22:34that. Come on game day, have a beer,
- 1:22:39and then get in the college football.
- 1:22:41So great one now. Brian, Let's go down to
- 1:22:45Louisiana, Lafayette, will Billy Napier against Texas, unique
- 1:22:49hired, Steve sarkisian, Texas going the SEC in a few years,
- 1:22:53Billy Napier stated louisiana-lafayette.
- 1:22:56When he was probably literally the hottest coaching candidate
- 1:22:58last year. Let's hit Billy.
- 1:23:02Napier, real quick for young is getting your building.
- 1:23:05A pure goes 93 this year down at Lafayette.
- 1:23:10And let's say we don't have a great season.
- 1:23:14Would you want a redo of a billion?
- 1:23:18AP of a G5 coach having success at a program, not normally that
- 1:23:23successful? Yeah.
- 1:23:30That's the big question right now.
- 1:23:31I don't think I went, you have to be the right candidate for me
- 1:23:37personally, and if I have Napier has that type of season, I might
- 1:23:41feel that way. I would prefer a more seasoned
- 1:23:47P5 coordinator. If we ended up having to go that
- 1:23:52route, All right, I'm feeling you.
- 1:23:56I won't that route to that happens.
- 1:23:59The one upside to Napier. I'll say, is this.
- 1:24:02Napier has a more Regional. Deal with us the Clemson dies.
- 1:24:09He has that Mid-Atlantic. Feel versus where food was
- 1:24:12Tennessee. Coming from Texas.
- 1:24:15That's the only thing, but I'm but I'm 100% with you.
- 1:24:18I think you can't go the same route twice and it is a hard
- 1:24:23sell for a fan base that by that point is reaching borderline
- 1:24:26apathy. Yep.
- 1:24:29All right, let's go to the game. Texas is laying 8 sammelan.
- 1:24:35Jews in your coats. So this quarterbacks gone
- 1:24:39Clarkson with the new system. I can't see them.
- 1:24:46Winning this game by more than like five.
- 1:24:51I think this is going to be absolute dogfight as we see how
- 1:24:55Napier's team plays. I know Sark is a offensive mind,
- 1:25:01but Sarge, top of the head coach have been less than impressive.
- 1:25:04I think it's a dog fight. I think it's gonna be probably
- 1:25:06one of the funnest games of the day.
- 1:25:08Texas, probably wins this game but Louis ull keeps it super
- 1:25:13close. I tell you what you're going to
- 1:25:15see a lot of you're going to see a lot of really good drives.
- 1:25:18Followed by a handful of three announce is because there's
- 1:25:23going to be some growing pains with that new offense.
- 1:25:28There's also going to be a fairly.
- 1:25:32I'd say it's at least athletically, talented, Texas
- 1:25:36defense lafayette's probably going to have some of those
- 1:25:39drives where they just can't get anything going.
- 1:25:41But there's going to be more where they were.
- 1:25:43They're able to move the ball. And I think Texas might squeak
- 1:25:49this one out, but I got Lafayette in terms with the
- 1:25:52spread and so we're agreeing on this 12 folks.
- 1:25:55It's again, this is what usually happens.
- 1:25:59It is. When you have a good G5 team, a
- 1:26:02they get to say we're going against the world of going
- 1:26:04against big bad Texas and you got Texas, learning something
- 1:26:07you would sort. I think, I think it's going to
- 1:26:11be a close. I think it can be one of the
- 1:26:12most entertaining games of the day.
- 1:26:14All right, let's go back. To the Big Ten.
- 1:26:16Another big match up there. 17 verses 18 Indiana coming off,
- 1:26:19probably it's best season. Since 1993 go back.
- 1:26:24We beat them at your in the the Independence Bowl versus Iowa.
- 1:26:28Kurt French steady, Eddie never out of the top 25.
- 1:26:33Iowa is laying three and a half. Brian you lead this one, buddy.
- 1:26:43I think in the Indiana pulls this one out, right?
- 1:26:45I know, it's pretty much a Pick'em, you know, just outside
- 1:26:49of that normal range. I just like the energy that
- 1:26:53their coach brings to the table. I like that.
- 1:26:55The returning pieces that they have on their offense so I think
- 1:26:59they get it done. Alright, I am going to say not
- 1:27:02so fast on this one. If Pinnock wasn't coming off an
- 1:27:05injury. I might lean but having to go to
- 1:27:09kenick Koenig is a stadium that somehow Ways you can they play a
- 1:27:14good opponent somehow Iowa always comes out on top.
- 1:27:18You're getting the points. I'm going to lay the point.
- 1:27:21I think it's a touchdown game. I think literally it's going to
- 1:27:24be right on like the number. Like you know it's a 46 over
- 1:27:29under 2246 over under. So you're looking at something
- 1:27:33like a 21 somewhere it's going to.
- 1:27:37I will lay three and a half with Iowa to win by like 7:00 21:28.
- 1:27:42Or somewhere in that room. The over-under feels a little
- 1:27:45low for me. I think they'll both be in kind
- 1:27:48of the upper 20s in the score. But if if that was like 51, I
- 1:27:53think I'd be like, okay, that, that that's where I would
- 1:27:56question it, but 46, I would definitely Hammer the over
- 1:28:00there. Well, I mean I would say that
- 1:28:03Brian but then, you know, I go to look at Iowa's totals for
- 1:28:07last year and it was like 2421 they blew out Minnesota by 3526
- 1:28:173528. There's nothing there that like
- 1:28:21pops. YouTube says like they're going
- 1:28:24to hit 50 easy. So I think you're right if it's
- 1:28:2850 you might would jump on it. But this number like Nando That.
- 1:28:32All right, man, let's get to D2 biggest games of the weekend,
- 1:28:36other than the Hokies. Let's go to Atlanta, man.
- 1:28:41And it's the you against Alabama in Alabama, is laying, this is
- 1:28:49an asinine number to me especially with all they lost
- 1:28:53Alabama's like 19 and a half. Yeah, this this one's crazy.
- 1:29:01I mean, I got this one just being a close one.
- 1:29:06I've got this like a one score, maybe a 10-point game.
- 1:29:11So I'm definitely taking Miami here.
- 1:29:14I think the Eric King with another year in that offense, if
- 1:29:18he's good to go health-wise and can play that whole game,
- 1:29:21they're going to be there right till the end I'm going I think
- 1:29:2519 and a half is way too much light and even if the Eric King,
- 1:29:28is it 100% yet? I think flash.
- 1:29:30We can keep it off balanced enough to get to probably the
- 1:29:36mid 20s against Alabama. Yeah.
- 1:29:40But I think it's more of Manny Diaz.
- 1:29:42Manny Diaz is a damn good defensive He's a damn good
- 1:29:45defensive coach. You got Bryce young as a
- 1:29:48essentially, a redshirt freshman, starting price.
- 1:29:50Young was a five-star. He wasn't all caliber type guy.
- 1:29:55And we don't know who's throwing too because Devon says, Smith is
- 1:29:57gone. Now, Jake Harris he ain't
- 1:29:59handing the ball off to them and you know you know they got guys
- 1:30:03are they going to be jailed enough?
- 1:30:05Are they going to, is there going to be some growing pains
- 1:30:08and with it especially offensive side of the ball defense?
- 1:30:11You know, they're probably going to be able to step in and be in
- 1:30:14good as Stout, as usual. Like you have is too much.
- 1:30:18I think, I think you say is there right there to the end.
- 1:30:20I think. Alabama found scoring.
- 1:30:23I think it's I think It's somewhere like 3830.
- 1:30:27I think it's going to be a really entertaining gain in the
- 1:30:29afternoons. I think Miami's defense will
- 1:30:31keep them in it long enough. I just don't think they'll close
- 1:30:35the door. Yeah, I was thinking like for
- 1:30:37somewhere like 4233 4235 was kind of where I was heading
- 1:30:42somewhere between are you are between 8 and 10 are you know me
- 1:30:45ask this are you seeing this as more of a back and forth or you
- 1:30:49see in this more like an Oklahoma Alabama bowl game,
- 1:30:52where Bama jumped out quick like, And T.
- 1:30:55Both collar Marie. Essentially a you get the dollar
- 1:31:01store version of a column or in dear King where they're going to
- 1:31:04start finding pieces, I think it's going to be the other way
- 1:31:08around. I think some of the growing
- 1:31:10pains I think Miami is going to jump out on them being the more
- 1:31:13experienced team with so much returning talent and then bam is
- 1:31:16going to claw their way back in it as they kind of settle in and
- 1:31:19then take the lead, probably, you know, just before the turn
- 1:31:23into the fourth quarter and And it's kind of a kind of an arm's
- 1:31:26length run to the to the buzzer there.
- 1:31:32Got it. All right.
- 1:31:33Well let's go to the last one, the big game Saturday night in
- 1:31:37Charlotte Booga versus Clemson Clemson's.
- 1:31:41Land 3. This is an over.
- 1:31:42Under a 51 comes in, obviously off, Trevor Lawrence, who has
- 1:31:47lost quite a few guys in their Camp.
- 1:31:51Primal, leave this one off man. And I'm going to tell you what,
- 1:31:55I don't think JT dings is going to know what hit him with the
- 1:31:58way that cleanse people's is. I think it's going to be a game,
- 1:32:02but I think lungs is going to win by 10 points because I don't
- 1:32:05think George is going to get one.
- 1:32:08Okay, so Clemson, I'll lay the three.
- 1:32:13I've got the Bulldog. Squeaking one out.
- 1:32:18All right, so we squeaking it out.
- 1:32:20You're taking three in there winner.
- 1:32:22Yep. All right.
- 1:32:26All right. So write that one down.
- 1:32:27I think the veteran quarterback gets gets it done.
- 1:32:32And that that's that's really the difference for me.
