Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host, Colleen Witt, and today we have a
- 0:05Speaker 1: very special guest. I'm very excited about this guest because
- 0:10Speaker 1: I traditionally have like a little bit of a bias
- 0:12Speaker 1: against younger folk. But this this is Skyler Paycheck, entrepreneur, franchisee,
- 0:19Speaker 1: owner of Smoothie King for franchises. Let's go self made.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Obviously he's on the show. We are about to eat
- 0:26Speaker 1: an Eating while Broke dish. But I'm really excited to
- 0:28Speaker 1: have you food all the way down from Texas. Yes,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and I'm excited to be schooled. And you know, potentially
- 0:35Speaker 1: we can all learn how to potentially own a Smoothie
- 0:38Speaker 1: King franchise. But you also do other stuff outside typical entrepreneur.
- 0:42Speaker 1: What other businesses do you have?
- 0:44Speaker 2: I got my hands in everything, franchises in the stock market,
- 0:49Speaker 2: like crazy, call me mister Flippick because I'm always flipping something.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I'm always finding ways to make money. That's why I'm
- 0:55Speaker 2: here to educate you guys on how to make money
- 0:57Speaker 2: as well.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Is that why your name is Skyler Paycheck? Hey?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Because I'm all about that paycheck.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I was like Scaler we're going by your last names. Like, no,
- 1:05Speaker 1: it's paycheck. So what are you gonna have me eating today?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Man, We're keeping it real simple, real broke. So we're
- 1:12Speaker 2: gonna have tacos with beans, Mexican rice. We're gonna have
- 1:15Speaker 2: a little avocado. You gotta have the Friedo's. You gotta
- 1:17Speaker 2: crunch those in there with the saucer, real broken.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And you got some avocado, you.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Know, you know, Hey, avocado's going up, by the way.
- 1:25Speaker 1: So yeah, but you know what I've learned, even on
- 1:28Speaker 1: this show, you can actually eat healthy on a budget.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So I'm glad you threw some avocado in there. I
- 1:33Speaker 1: wasn't too sure about the friedos. Guys, don't judge me,
- 1:35Speaker 1: but I was in the store asking like, is Friedo's
- 1:38Speaker 1: like a special term? Are we talking Frido's chips? And
- 1:41Speaker 1: then I actually had to like Google. I was like,
- 1:43Speaker 1: I ain't seen fredos in so long.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Got in there.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Okay, I'm excited, so go ahead, start cooking. Oh and
- 1:49Speaker 1: then he has the corn. Is the corn tortillas usually used?
- 1:53Speaker 2: I mean flower, but we're gonna rock with corn today.
- 1:55Speaker 2: It's all good.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I love flower tortillas. But I was up in the store,
- 1:58Speaker 1: asking people like were you people go better with his tacos?
- 2:02Speaker 1: There's like cord all right. So while you're going ahead
- 2:06Speaker 1: started these guys, he's pouring the olive oil up in here.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Gotta add to olive oil.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And then he's got the refried beans on the stove.
- 2:13Speaker 1: So there's no meat, is there? Is there no meat
- 2:15Speaker 1: because it's affordability or is it like you don't eat meat?
- 2:19Speaker 2: No meat because I'm vegan man la la style vegan
- 2:24Speaker 2: oka And yeah, I've been like that for quite some
- 2:28Speaker 2: time now actually, and so yeah, man, it's all about
- 2:33Speaker 2: health reasons and I'll get into that later on down
- 2:35Speaker 2: the line. Certain things happen in my life to make
- 2:38Speaker 2: make me go vegan.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And how long have you been vegan for?
- 2:42Speaker 2: And I've been vegan for about twelve years.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Now, twelve years. Isn't that like half your life?
- 2:47Speaker 2: It's a lone part of my life. But but I
- 2:51Speaker 2: mean he's starting early. Yeah, it's it's because it's very
- 2:54Speaker 2: important again, health reasons in my family and everything like that.
- 2:59Speaker 2: So I have to get to it.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So just because you're young, I want a good picture
- 3:03Speaker 1: of your family life. How many siblings, parents, married, divorced, so.
- 3:07Speaker 2: My parents are married. Rest in peace to my mom.
- 3:09Speaker 2: She's no longer here. But my parents, it's all good.
- 3:13Speaker 2: My parents were married, and I have two siblings. Rest
- 3:18Speaker 2: in peace to one of my brothers as well. And
- 3:21Speaker 2: we'll get into.
- 3:22Speaker 1: All that lady trauma going on here.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Say it was not easy. Let me tell y'all. Nothing
- 3:27Speaker 2: comes easy. And even though you get knocked down, you
- 3:30Speaker 2: gotta get back up and you gotta keep going.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Okay. So, so you have two siblings living right now.
- 3:38Speaker 2: So one's living in one of them. He's no longer here.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Okay, so you and your pops now.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Well me, my pop's in one of my other brothers,
- 3:45Speaker 2: my oldest brother.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Okay, okay, so you your pop okay, got it? Got it? Wow? Okay.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So we're starting out right out the gates. Okay, So
- 3:54Speaker 1: take me back to what was going on during this dish.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So this is this is high school scholar here, and
- 4:00Speaker 2: what I mean by that is I always again been
- 4:04Speaker 2: about that check. I always been about that money. So
- 4:06Speaker 2: back in high school, I had the same mentality I
- 4:09Speaker 2: have now. I had it all the way. Back in
- 4:11Speaker 2: high school, I was a straight hustler the legal way.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I was the person in school that was selling CDs,
- 4:16Speaker 2: I was selling candy. I would buy shoes water shoes
- 4:20Speaker 2: to school, have everyone saying, man, no, shoes look nice.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Then I would sell them to them and go buy
- 4:25Speaker 2: more shoes.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Now, but how are you selling them to mark them
- 4:28Speaker 1: up if they could buy them from the store.
- 4:30Speaker 2: So I look at it this way. I had to
- 4:33Speaker 2: fly your shoes, you know what I mean, the shoes
- 4:34Speaker 2: that you can't get in them all, you know what
- 4:36Speaker 2: I mean. So I was doing that, and this is
- 4:39Speaker 2: the big part. While all of this was going on,
- 4:42Speaker 2: I also created a music group and so I was
- 4:45Speaker 2: the creator of that. We would sell CDs there. We
- 4:47Speaker 2: did R and B slash rap kind of like pretty
- 4:49Speaker 2: Ricky Alls. So we were doing that. But the biggest
- 4:52Speaker 2: thing is we were throwing parties. We had merch. So
- 4:56Speaker 2: we were doing.
- 4:56Speaker 1: All in high school.
- 4:57Speaker 2: All in high school.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Now, is this when you had a dual.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Parent home or yeah, dual parent home?
- 5:02Speaker 1: So how are your parents handling like their hustling son?
- 5:07Speaker 1: Are you keeping your grades up?
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah? Kid? Oh yeah, my mama was a principal, so
- 5:12Speaker 2: yeah yeah, and so yeah the school the principal in
- 5:15Speaker 2: the same district. So I was gonna say, yeah, all
- 5:18Speaker 2: the all the principals knew about my mom and everything
- 5:21Speaker 2: like that. So yeah, education was a must in the household.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And yeah, they were chill about it because again I
- 5:27Speaker 2: kept my grades up and I'm a good kid, you
- 5:29Speaker 2: know what I mean. So I never got in trouble.
- 5:31Speaker 2: And so, no, I'm the youngest, I'm the youngest.
- 5:34Speaker 1: You're the youngest.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so yeah, I'm the I'm the youngest kid.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Where does this entrepreneur but come from, because usually, you know.
- 5:42Speaker 2: You know, it comes from my pops. My pops was
- 5:46Speaker 2: still is. He He's the man, you know what I mean,
- 5:48Speaker 2: He's the man when it comes to hustling and and
- 5:52Speaker 2: and just knowing people. He knew everybody in the in
- 5:55Speaker 2: the city.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You may't want to turn that stove up, man, it's
- 5:58Speaker 1: not yeah, it's not you hot to turn that you know,
- 6:02Speaker 1: we taking you all the way back to last then
- 6:07Speaker 1: things look like they just soaking up. Just turn it
- 6:11Speaker 1: all the way up, man. Yeah right there, Okay, so continue,
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'm sorry, you're trying to save you so.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So yeah, no, so that's going on. I'm paying it.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I'm paying attention to my dad as I grow up
- 6:24Speaker 2: as a kid, and again everyone in the city of
- 6:26Speaker 2: Dallas knew him. So he he worked for Social Security.
- 6:31Speaker 2: But here's the kicker. He was also a movie credit
- 6:34Speaker 2: on K one O four FM out in Dallas, so
- 6:36Speaker 2: the biggest rap station in the in the Metroplex. He
- 6:39Speaker 2: was also a movie credit there, so he knew a
- 6:43Speaker 2: movie critic. So think of it like a food critic,
- 6:46Speaker 2: but you but you do movies.
- 6:47Speaker 1: But he was at a radio station doing that.
- 6:50Speaker 2: So he would he didn't work for the radio station,
- 6:53Speaker 2: but he was like a little segment that they were Friday. Yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 2: so he would call up there and he would review,
- 6:59Speaker 2: review movies and all of that good stuff. So as
- 7:02Speaker 2: a kid, you just pay attention to all those little things.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And my dad was actually a pivotal part in helping
- 7:07Speaker 2: me as well on my journey.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Okay, so you saw him do that. Now he did
- 7:12Speaker 1: the movie critic as his own thing.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah, as his own thing. The other hustles, oh yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 2: for sure. Man. My dad was kind of just like me,
- 7:21Speaker 2: just always hustling, always just finding the way. He would
- 7:24Speaker 2: throw boat parties, swing out parties.
- 7:27Speaker 1: He and you would see him do it.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Uh so I would see him do it and
- 7:31Speaker 2: It's one of those things he never never necessarily taught me.
- 7:35Speaker 2: But I'm just paying attention. You know, kids watch everything,
- 7:38Speaker 2: so they pay attention to everything that you're doing. So yeah, man,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I made these a little but that's all.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Okay, keep trying them. It's because the heat wasn't up high,
- 7:50Speaker 1: but it's about to get hot. You got time.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But my point in saying all this is that was
- 7:57Speaker 2: just kind of like the beginning of beginning of everything
- 8:00Speaker 2: as far as man, this this one just thinks, but
- 8:03Speaker 2: we're gonna keep it rocking. But anyway, but that was
- 8:07Speaker 2: kind of the startup thing. So music ended up kind
- 8:10Speaker 2: of fizzling out, and so at this point, I was
- 8:13Speaker 2: telling myself, Okay, plan a was always to get a
- 8:16Speaker 2: big record deal like everybody and buy a franchise from there,
- 8:19Speaker 2: because this is something that I've always wanted to do.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So all my days, I always said I was going
- 8:25Speaker 2: to own a wingstop. And it's a whole funny story
- 8:28Speaker 2: to that bottle way. But all my friends and everybody
- 8:31Speaker 2: already knew that. So again, the music's kind of fizzling out.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Things don't work our way. So I end up telling
- 8:37Speaker 2: my dad, like, hey, I want to own a franchise?
- 8:40Speaker 2: What do I need to do to get there? And
- 8:42Speaker 2: my dad was saying, Hey, I know the perfect person
- 8:45Speaker 2: for you, because again he networks with everybody. So he said,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I know somebody at Wingstop. I want you to go
- 8:50Speaker 2: talk to him. So he sets up the meeting.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And how old are you at the time?
- 8:55Speaker 2: I am, what seventeen?
- 8:57Speaker 1: Okay? So your dad's taking you very serious something like
- 9:00Speaker 1: that because.
- 9:01Speaker 2: He always knew. I was always a person again with money,
- 9:04Speaker 2: so he knew.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And what were you doing with the money though? You
- 9:07Speaker 1: were just reinvesting in.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Or reinvesting in saving. I'm a big savior and love that.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Like this meal. I ate this meal the other day
- 9:14Speaker 2: because I never want to go broke. So I am.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I don't spend a lot on close. I don't spend
- 9:19Speaker 2: a lot on anything really okay.
- 9:21Speaker 1: I like that. So you're not like flashy cars, flashy
- 9:24Speaker 1: any of that. Wow. So and then I would assume
- 9:28Speaker 1: based on that your credit is really good too. What school?
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yo? So let me tell y'all, get a secure credit card.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Go to your bank. If you don't have credit, get
- 9:40Speaker 2: that secure credit card. Spend They're going to give you
- 9:44Speaker 2: like a two hundred three hundred dollars limit. Once you
- 9:46Speaker 2: get that secure credit card, keep it at about ten percent.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Don't go any higher than ten percent. Pay that bill
- 9:51Speaker 2: on time. Never let any interest build up. That credit
- 9:54Speaker 2: is going to go up over time.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:56Speaker 2: But so at the so back to the Wingstop things.
- 9:59Speaker 2: So my dad only takes me there. I sit there
- 10:01Speaker 2: and talk to the dude. Little little did I know
- 10:04Speaker 2: that not only is he a franchise owner for Wingstop,
- 10:07Speaker 2: but he is the actual person that bought franchising to
- 10:10Speaker 2: the company. So oh yeah, so yeah, he's a he's
- 10:17Speaker 2: a Wingstop og.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 10:19Speaker 2: So he's talking to me, He's telling me what I
- 10:23Speaker 2: need to do. I got a notepad. I'm writing everything down.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I'm taking notes on everything that I need to do
- 10:28Speaker 2: to become a franchise on it. So he says, once
- 10:31Speaker 2: you get that done, come back and talk to me.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I say, cool. So this is where things start to
- 10:37Speaker 2: get This is where things starts to get interesting, and
- 10:40Speaker 2: this is where the journey really starts. I end up
- 10:42Speaker 2: having a job because now I'm trying to make money
- 10:46Speaker 2: and get this franchise. I work at co Hunter. You
- 10:48Speaker 2: know what co hunt is? Okay, So co Hunt is
- 10:50Speaker 2: a shoe store. It's kind of like middle tier. Is
- 10:53Speaker 2: not necessarily Gucci, Louie and all of that, but it's
- 10:56Speaker 2: kind of like middle tier. So I go to and
- 11:00Speaker 2: I get the job, and everything's going good. It's nothing big,
- 11:04Speaker 2: just a little part time job. But my manager tells me,
- 11:08Speaker 2: we get fifteen vouchers to where we can buy shoes
- 11:11Speaker 2: for really cheap. So say, these three hundred and four
- 11:14Speaker 2: hundred dollars shoes, you can get them for forty dollars. Now,
- 11:17Speaker 2: keep in mind, but you have to of course work there. Now.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Keep in mind, I'm a hustler. So I'm looking at
- 11:23Speaker 2: these vouchers and I'm saying, I'm gonna bodies and I'm
- 11:26Speaker 2: gonna sell them online. So I create an eBay and
- 11:29Speaker 2: Amazon account. So I'm selling these shoes for really cheap,
- 11:34Speaker 2: making a great profit. My boss calls me in one
- 11:37Speaker 2: day and he fires me on the spot. He had
- 11:39Speaker 2: a whole, a whole trail of everything I was doing
- 11:43Speaker 2: on eBay and Amazon. So at this point I'm in
- 11:48Speaker 2: a rut. O my back is against the wall. I'm
- 11:52Speaker 2: starting to lose money. Yeah, and one thing about me,
- 11:56Speaker 2: and I'm sure you can agree, nobody likes to see
- 11:58Speaker 2: their bank account go backwards. So all of my different
- 12:01Speaker 2: business accounts and everything, anytime I see it going this way,
- 12:04Speaker 2: I'm like.
- 12:05Speaker 1: You kept all your businesses separate, all of them separate, Okay,
- 12:08Speaker 1: got it? And then I'm just curissed. Do you keep
- 12:10Speaker 1: them in separate bank account banks too, or just separate accounts.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Separate accounts, separate accounts, same bank, same bank. So h man,
- 12:21Speaker 2: this is gonna be a tostado.
- 12:23Speaker 1: It looks good. You gotta make the other ones like
- 12:26Speaker 1: more fry though, Yeah, nah.
- 12:27Speaker 2: For sure, for sure. Let me put a few more
- 12:29Speaker 2: on you.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, save yourself, all right, continue with your.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Story, all right. So look, I'm in a rut. My
- 12:37Speaker 2: back is against the wall. I'm like, I gotta make
- 12:39Speaker 2: something shake because I'm not making no money. I'm trying
- 12:42Speaker 2: to figure things out. But I know that Skyler, you're
- 12:46Speaker 2: already a hustler. You already do this for a living.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Just do it to the next level. So I take
- 12:52Speaker 2: some time. I take about two to three weeks and
- 12:54Speaker 2: I'm researching like crazy, like what can I flip? What
- 12:58Speaker 2: can I sell? I already got the eBay and Mamazon account, going,
- 13:01Speaker 2: what do I need to do.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Now back up a second, when you did the eBay
- 13:04Speaker 1: and Amazon account. Now, I'm not a digital girl, really
- 13:08Speaker 1: was there a little bit of a learning curve doing
- 13:10Speaker 1: those businesses too.
- 13:11Speaker 2: It's not really that hard like they And it started
- 13:14Speaker 2: from me, you going back to high school selling shoes.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I would just sell some of my U shoes on
- 13:20Speaker 2: eBay and you.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Know people will buy it.
- 13:22Speaker 2: So I already kind of know the system. So I'm
- 13:26Speaker 2: researching on the internet. I'm spending weeks figuring out what
- 13:29Speaker 2: do people want, what do people need, and where is
- 13:33Speaker 2: their angle for me to get in with eBay and Amazon,
- 13:35Speaker 2: something that's not too oversaturated, something to where I can
- 13:38Speaker 2: make some money. So I figure it out. I'm doing
- 13:41Speaker 2: trial and error, and one thing that sticks out to
- 13:44Speaker 2: me a lot is micro s D cards.
- 13:46Speaker 1: At the time, so holy count your okay gone, so
- 13:52Speaker 1: holy cow, all right gone.
- 13:55Speaker 2: So I start with just ten ten micro SD cards
- 13:59Speaker 2: and they in the first day, So I'm like, okay,
- 14:02Speaker 2: that did good. I ended up getting thirty and thirty
- 14:06Speaker 2: sold in a day. And keep in mind, I did
- 14:08Speaker 2: all of this so tiny, so tiny, so tiny, but
- 14:13Speaker 2: everybody needs them. Hell yeah them right.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So you purposely look for something small at a lower
- 14:21Speaker 1: price point.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Something lower price point, and again something that people want
- 14:25Speaker 2: and something that people need, like every day essentials.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and so that looks a little too old, Vinyl.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Your story is better than your cooking.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Hey, by the way, I can't cook for nothing.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Just let me just say that. Okay, But so that's going.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So thirty goes to one hundred, and then I keep
- 14:44Speaker 2: going to the point to where it's so good that
- 14:47Speaker 2: I'm selling about a thousand and two weeks, so money
- 14:50Speaker 2: is coming in. So that's income source number one right there.
- 14:53Speaker 2: And I want to walk out through every source of
- 14:55Speaker 2: income that I had to get to where I got
- 14:57Speaker 2: to so that y'all can know how to do it
- 14:58Speaker 2: as well. So that's income source number one going. Now,
- 15:03Speaker 2: remember I told you about stocks. I didn't know anything
- 15:07Speaker 2: about stocks, so I didn't know anything about stocks. But
- 15:11Speaker 2: I'm looking at it like continue, I'm I want to
- 15:18Speaker 2: get into stocks. I don't know anything about stocks, but
- 15:20Speaker 2: I look at it like, Okay, I got this business going,
- 15:23Speaker 2: I got money to blow, so let me get into
- 15:26Speaker 2: the market. And so what I do is I just
- 15:28Speaker 2: kind of take a leap of faith and I just
- 15:30Speaker 2: kind of start investing a little bit. So all I
- 15:32Speaker 2: do is Amazon, Apple, Intesla.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Stuff that you're using smart that's that's that's all.
- 15:39Speaker 2: That's all I do. And I look at it like
- 15:41Speaker 2: worst case scenario. I make a little bit of money
- 15:44Speaker 2: out of it. So what happens is and by the way,
- 15:48Speaker 2: this is something that I want. Just our culture, just
- 15:51Speaker 2: minorities in general. Our parents aren't teaching us these things, like,
- 15:57Speaker 2: so I think the younger generation, like us, we're doing
- 16:00Speaker 2: better with kids and teaching kids. But like my parents,
- 16:04Speaker 2: they just went went to work, did their thing. But
- 16:07Speaker 2: I didn't know about all of this.
- 16:08Speaker 1: And they probably didn't know. It's not like if they knew,
- 16:11Speaker 1: they would definitely, you know, right, all right, So go
- 16:14Speaker 1: back to the stocks. So you invest in these stocks,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but the way you've iron it out in your head
- 16:19Speaker 1: is like worst case, I'm not going to make that
- 16:21Speaker 1: a high profit, but I'm at least investing in the
- 16:24Speaker 1: things that I know correct that people buy.
- 16:27Speaker 2: So Amma's you fast forward a little bit of time,
- 16:29Speaker 2: Amazon and Apple is doing really good, and I wasn't
- 16:32Speaker 2: thinking long term. So this drives me crazy to this
- 16:37Speaker 2: day that I ended up selling my Amazon and my
- 16:40Speaker 2: Apple and it would be worth so much money right now.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But it's all good.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But you never got on the bitcoin phrase.
- 16:48Speaker 2: We for sure. I'm on bitcoin too. I can definitely
- 16:50Speaker 2: get to that.
- 16:50Speaker 1: As well, So I don't want to skip around.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, So you're.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Selling the SD cards and you're making profit, and you're
- 16:57Speaker 1: you're doing the whole thing where you're like going to
- 16:59Speaker 1: the do you buy them wholesale? You found a place
- 17:02Speaker 1: to buy them wholesale? And then you're going to the
- 17:04Speaker 1: mail every day and shipping these babos, shipping.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Them straight from from the post office. So getting getting
- 17:09Speaker 2: the labels on eBay because eBay they eBay and Amazon
- 17:12Speaker 2: they do all that for you. All you gotta do
- 17:13Speaker 2: is print out the label after you sell it, Just
- 17:15Speaker 2: print out the label, ship it off. That's so crazy,
- 17:18Speaker 2: that's it. So that that money's coming in. Now, let
- 17:20Speaker 2: me get the Tesla because this is where things get crazy.
- 17:23Speaker 2: So I hold on to it because it's not making
- 17:25Speaker 2: the money that Apple and Amazon is making so and
- 17:28Speaker 2: plus I like the Tesla cars, and so I hold
- 17:31Speaker 2: on to it. And I'm noticing over time like this
- 17:34Speaker 2: keeps going up. Like I got in it was only
- 17:36Speaker 2: like one ninety eight at the time, it keeps going
- 17:40Speaker 2: up and up and up, and next thing, you know,
- 17:42Speaker 2: two hundred goes to three hundred, four hundred, five hundred,
- 17:45Speaker 2: and it's getting close to one thousand. So as this
- 17:48Speaker 2: is going on, I get I get a news alert
- 17:51Speaker 2: and it says Tesla is doing a five for one
- 17:53Speaker 2: stock split. Do you know? Do you know? Okay? So
- 17:57Speaker 2: a stock split basically means a stock price is gonna
- 18:01Speaker 2: get so high like Tesla was in the thousands.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Ye.
- 18:04Speaker 2: So to make it more affordable for the everyday person,
- 18:07Speaker 2: we're gonna give the people that already bought in, We're
- 18:09Speaker 2: gonna give y'all five shares for each one. So say
- 18:11Speaker 2: you have thirty shares, right, So, say you have thirty
- 18:14Speaker 2: shares of Tesla. After that stock split, you wake up
- 18:17Speaker 2: the next morning, you're gonna have one hundred and fifty.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Holy cow.
- 18:21Speaker 2: So the value stays the same, everything stays the same,
- 18:24Speaker 2: but now you have more shares, and now the price
- 18:27Speaker 2: drops back down for the everyday average person.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Okay, So is that good or is it bad?
- 18:32Speaker 2: No? That's amazing, amazing for you, especially because now instead
- 18:35Speaker 2: of thirty shares, now you have.
- 18:36Speaker 1: One fifty, and now they're worth a little less.
- 18:39Speaker 2: No, they're worth the same thing. Yeah, it's just a
- 18:42Speaker 2: stock basically buying more damn right about more stocks. So
- 18:47Speaker 2: now I have a whole bunch of shares and I
- 18:49Speaker 2: continuing to buy more. So nonetheless, that's income source number two. Okay,
- 18:54Speaker 2: so I got the eBay Amazon, and I got the
- 18:56Speaker 2: stock the stock portfolio buility.
- 18:58Speaker 1: And then how are you paying your bills? Are you
- 19:00Speaker 1: still living at home? Are you being frugal? What are you? Oh?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm being very very And then.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Your pops and everybody's watching. Are they taking notes? Are
- 19:06Speaker 1: they are they watching or they they doing they mimicking?
- 19:10Speaker 2: No, they're not, actually that. My pops is kind of
- 19:12Speaker 2: more old school, you know what I mean. So I'm
- 19:15Speaker 2: just kind of doing my thing. Just just with that.
- 19:18Speaker 2: With all of that, so that's two sources of income.
- 19:21Speaker 2: So all that's making money. And I just so happened
- 19:24Speaker 2: to once again be with my dad. He's a hardcore
- 19:27Speaker 2: sports fan, Mavericks, Cowboys, you name it. By the way,
- 19:31Speaker 2: I'm hurt that the Lakers got Luca. Let me just
- 19:33Speaker 2: say that on camera. I didn't like that trade, but
- 19:36Speaker 2: it is what it is. So I go with him
- 19:39Speaker 2: because he's renewing his season tickets because he's a season
- 19:41Speaker 2: ticket hole for Mavericks. So I'm just there and at
- 19:45Speaker 2: the time, you could just pick the seats, like you
- 19:47Speaker 2: can just grab a paper and pick the seats. So
- 19:49Speaker 2: when I'm looking around, I'm like, man, like, I see
- 19:53Speaker 2: some seats that's close to court side. Let me look
- 19:57Speaker 2: at the price of these. So I'm looking at the
- 19:59Speaker 2: price of them. Not necessarily court side, but they're a
- 20:01Speaker 2: little further back to where say you're on a date
- 20:04Speaker 2: and a dude takes you on a date and he
- 20:05Speaker 2: want a stunt or save you on Instagram, right, you
- 20:08Speaker 2: don'na feel good? So I'm looking. I'm like, let me
- 20:11Speaker 2: get those seats. So I see seats too. It was
- 20:15Speaker 2: first time. I'm all about risk, So I see, I
- 20:20Speaker 2: see those seats. Oh man, all right, So I see
- 20:27Speaker 2: those yo? I did? I did? So I see those seats, right,
- 20:34Speaker 2: and you are.
- 20:35Speaker 1: You ready to sit with me? Or what? Let's let's
- 20:37Speaker 1: did you want to play these or do whatever with me?
- 20:42Speaker 2: Yeah, let's do it.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Let's do What do we have to do? Is hot?
- 20:46Speaker 1: All right? So take us to how we're doing this?
- 20:48Speaker 1: What are we doing?
- 20:48Speaker 2: All right?
- 20:49Speaker 1: I take a taco.
- 20:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you can take whichever one I know at Okay,
- 20:53Speaker 2: you want to go Crispy.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I want to go Crispy. Okay, all right, there, I
- 20:57Speaker 1: got my two tacos. All right, did you do three?
- 21:01Speaker 2: Go here, go for it.
- 21:02Speaker 1: I'm not taking a little I'm taking all your best ones.
- 21:04Speaker 2: No, you're good.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Here we go, three tacos. What do we do next?
- 21:08Speaker 2: All right, So we're gonna get the beans and then well,
- 21:13Speaker 2: I'll let you do the beans.
- 21:15Speaker 1: You tell me how to do it, all right, because.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I don't know if you like a lot a little.
- 21:20Speaker 1: I've never done this before. I'm doing it the way
- 21:22Speaker 1: you eat at home, all right. All right, So we
- 21:25Speaker 1: got the beans on it, so.
- 21:26Speaker 2: You just want to kind of mash those in.
- 21:32Speaker 1: So this is what you be doing at home.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Yo, straight up. But I do flour. So it's a little,
- 21:37Speaker 2: a little bit bigger, a little bit easier.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Oh the bigger taco.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Yeah. But now we're gonna rock with this though.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Okay, all right, we got the tacos, all right, No
- 21:55Speaker 1: cheese because we're vegan.
- 21:56Speaker 2: No cheese because we're vegan. Okay, all right, so do
- 22:01Speaker 2: we have us?
- 22:02Speaker 1: They play us shout outs to the producers today.
- 22:09Speaker 2: I just want a little bit of rice.
- 22:11Speaker 1: There you go, Spanish rice for a reason.
- 22:16Speaker 2: I mean Spanish rice is just clutch. I mean Cilantro
- 22:18Speaker 2: was cool too, but Spanish rice is.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Now all right. So now I'm hungry.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Now we can do you want some avocados? Are they
- 22:28Speaker 2: so risky? You like? I don't know.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I'll do it all right, No, man, some of them
- 22:32Speaker 1: look risky. Nah that look that looks let me see
- 22:38Speaker 1: you really nice skylet I'm gonna tell you right now,
- 22:42Speaker 1: you're not going for it. Yeah, yeah, I'll skip the avocado.
- 22:48Speaker 1: How is guys? He's not an a that has a
- 22:51Speaker 1: little bit.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Of All right, I'm gonna do a little bit of saucer.
- 22:56Speaker 1: I can't believe you even did that. No, they look sketch.
- 23:00Speaker 2: You wanta saucer?
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah? All right, them avocados look, I don't know. It's
- 23:08Speaker 1: nice to know you're not a Oh I'm spilling this.
- 23:11Speaker 1: I'm doing a really bad Nah.
- 23:12Speaker 2: You good? You could all right? Then you gotta get
- 23:16Speaker 2: a little Frido's to get that, to get that crunch.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you were gonna crunch it, crunch it.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I do that as well, But again it's it's it's
- 23:27Speaker 2: so small.
- 23:28Speaker 1: The taco shell. Yeah, okay, I just recently started eating
- 23:36Speaker 1: chips on sandwiches after eating all broke because someone didn't
- 23:39Speaker 1: on the show. I can't remember who. Okay, taco tasting time. Okay,
- 23:46Speaker 1: we got the beans, Spanish rice, freedo, crunchy tortilla, tacoma.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Let you go first.
- 23:57Speaker 1: This is amazing, is it? Really? That's what's I would
- 24:01Speaker 1: totally eat these. Do you know all they're vegan haacks?
- 24:05Speaker 1: Because this is good. I mean a few, A few
- 24:10Speaker 1: sometimes is amazing.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Sometimes when I really want to get fool, this might
- 24:14Speaker 2: be too much for you. But I have some fries
- 24:18Speaker 2: and I do it like burrito style, and I put
- 24:20Speaker 2: some fries in there too, so it's like potatoes, beans, rice,
- 24:24Speaker 2: fri doos.
- 24:25Speaker 1: You can do that. If I did that, I turned
- 24:27Speaker 1: into Ooper loop. But I could do this in a
- 24:31Speaker 1: burrito right. But you know what makes this is the
- 24:34Speaker 1: the friedos.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So y'all don't sleep on the crunch. It's what makes it.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I have one question, because I'm gonna eat two guys.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Why why are the fredos in another chip?
- 24:52Speaker 2: The fri doos just taste good with it, like Frido's.
- 24:55Speaker 2: You can't do much with it.
- 24:56Speaker 1: It's not because they're like special because they're like being
- 24:58Speaker 1: friendly or something.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Well, they are vegan friendly, so that's part of it too,
- 25:03Speaker 2: but they just go with it. FreeDOS just go with it.
- 25:07Speaker 2: It's just one of those things, just mixing it up
- 25:09Speaker 2: in the kitchen when you when you don't got the
- 25:11Speaker 2: money and you just scot still laying around and you
- 25:15Speaker 2: just you just make it work, kind of like you know,
- 25:17Speaker 2: the big value pack of chips, like the thirty pack.
- 25:20Speaker 2: The free Doos is always last, so they just kind
- 25:22Speaker 2: of always sit in the kitchen.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Dude, they're on the bottom shelf too.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So people be sleeping on them.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So I'm not gonna lie. The Fredos makes this thing work.
- 25:32Speaker 1: You lucky almost the fos out likes.
- 25:36Speaker 2: I'm glad you like it, That's what's up.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna finish my tackle before we get back. Then, no,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you go because the crunch this is really good.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Hey, I'm glad you like it.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I want to go vegan, but I don't know how
- 25:58Speaker 1: to you in.
- 25:59Speaker 2: The Perfect City with.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Austin or La La good. But I'm gonna be trying
- 26:05Speaker 1: to do Backhostal and Austin.
- 26:07Speaker 2: I mean Austin literally is a mini La man. They
- 26:11Speaker 2: they got so much vegan food.
- 26:14Speaker 1: And man, okay, so chocolates is a one for those
- 26:23Speaker 1: doing it at home. Because of the refried beans, you
- 26:26Speaker 1: definitely can't go without the salsa, and because of the crunch,
- 26:31Speaker 1: you can't go without with the friedo. So facts, if
- 26:35Speaker 1: you do this at home, the best way to enjoy
- 26:38Speaker 1: this one hundred percent is to do all of the ingredients,
- 26:40Speaker 1: the Spanish rice, the salsa, the friedo chips, the corner das,
- 26:44Speaker 1: and the beans. Ten out of ten for vegan.
- 26:47Speaker 2: You had it without the avocados, that's what's crazy.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And well, you know what, the refried beans kind of
- 26:52Speaker 1: because avocado and refried beans have the same textures and
- 26:55Speaker 1: avocado doesn't have that strong of a taste, right, Yeah, honestly,
- 27:00Speaker 1: you could keep your cow avocado that they had way
- 27:05Speaker 1: too with brown. Personally, if I would have seen once back,
- 27:08Speaker 1: it would have been down out.
- 27:09Speaker 2: That is too funny.
- 27:10Speaker 1: My daughter eats an avocado with da oh yeah yeah,
- 27:13Speaker 1: if it was up to her, she eat like four.
- 27:15Speaker 2: But avocados is what it is, and you can put
- 27:17Speaker 2: that on anything man salad, you can put in your smoothie,
- 27:21Speaker 2: you can put it in whatever you want to.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I feel like, well, I'm going to get to that
- 27:26Speaker 1: I want when we get to the smoothie era. But
- 27:29Speaker 1: the part of me feels like you're not judging this
- 27:31Speaker 1: because you're in the smoothie business. Like you don't judge markings.
- 27:35Speaker 2: On fruit bananas, you will probably lose your shit.
- 27:38Speaker 1: But banana's the sweeter.
- 27:40Speaker 2: They are seeing a lot of customers they see that
- 27:43Speaker 2: and they're like, what is that. I don't want that banana.
- 27:45Speaker 2: I'll be trying to explain to them, like, no.
- 27:47Speaker 1: They're better that way. But I also have a rule.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I'm Jamaican. My mom raised us. If it doesn't look
- 27:53Speaker 1: spotty and all that, it's not right.
- 27:54Speaker 2: That's not right.
- 27:55Speaker 1: And so even my daughter shows, I'm like, girl, that's
- 27:58Speaker 1: the only way you want to eat a banana unless
- 28:00Speaker 1: you want to eat a nasty exactly and smoothie. Your
- 28:03Speaker 1: banana has to.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Look exactly freckled facts.
- 28:07Speaker 1: And you know that's the same for like banana.
- 28:10Speaker 2: Bread and banana bread. Yeah, that's what I always try
- 28:12Speaker 2: to explain. I'm like, have you ever made banana bread
- 28:14Speaker 2: like you don't want.
- 28:16Speaker 1: You don't want to know, yo, non inspect of bananas.
- 28:20Speaker 1: But we're not talking about how to make a smoothie.
- 28:23Speaker 1: We're talking about how to get a paycheck. Facts with
- 28:26Speaker 1: Skylar paycheck go. So go back to these season tickets.
- 28:31Speaker 2: All right. So I basically long story short, I'm in
- 28:36Speaker 2: the arena. I'm like, I'm gonna take a gamble. I'm
- 28:39Speaker 2: already making money. I already got two streams of income
- 28:42Speaker 2: coming in. Let me take this gamble. Worst case you.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Don't have a day job, just to your two streams,
- 28:48Speaker 1: but the second stream is delayed. Yes, so the first
- 28:52Speaker 1: stream is the one you're living off of.
- 28:54Speaker 2: What the second one. We'll get into that later. There's
- 28:58Speaker 2: ways where you can make money daily and the stock market,
- 29:00Speaker 2: but we'll get into all that later. But for the
- 29:03Speaker 2: time being, yes, it's delayed. So that's kind of sitting there.
- 29:07Speaker 2: And I got those two streams of income going. So
- 29:10Speaker 2: I'm like, again, let me take this gamble. Best case scenario,
- 29:14Speaker 2: I break even. Worst case scenario, I get to go
- 29:18Speaker 2: to a bunch of mever games. So I bought those,
- 29:20Speaker 2: and I thought, and I bought a few other.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Seats, and what's your dad doing while you're doing the seat, Like, man,
- 29:26Speaker 1: I don't even need to buy seats because you got enough.
- 29:28Speaker 2: You know, he bought his own as well, so you know,
- 29:31Speaker 2: he's just he knows me by now. If I say
- 29:33Speaker 2: I'm going to do something, I want something, then I
- 29:36Speaker 2: like that. You know, he's just like cool. So I
- 29:38Speaker 2: get those going. So that ends up being really big
- 29:42Speaker 2: for me.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Like, people, what do you do with these seats? Walk
- 29:44Speaker 1: us through it?
- 29:45Speaker 2: So you can do Facebook, Marketplace obviously, these different tickets
- 29:50Speaker 2: sites and all of this, and that you just put
- 29:51Speaker 2: them on there. You put them up higher than the
- 29:54Speaker 2: value and you're making money. So picture having multiple tickets
- 29:58Speaker 2: for all season, you know what I mean. And Dallas
- 30:01Speaker 2: is a huge city, so people love sports over there,
- 30:03Speaker 2: so people got money in Dallas. So people are buying
- 30:07Speaker 2: these season tickets easy, and so that's making money. So
- 30:11Speaker 2: now that's three, three sources of income. So this is
- 30:15Speaker 2: where I'm starting to feel like I'm the man. I'm
- 30:17Speaker 2: starting to feel like I'm good, you know what I mean.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I got some money, you know what I mean. So
- 30:24Speaker 2: I tell my dad, I said, hey, let me talk
- 30:27Speaker 2: to you about franchising again. And he was like, all right,
- 30:31Speaker 2: I got why.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I thought you were going to say, like you started
- 30:33Speaker 1: buying ridiculous things.
- 30:35Speaker 2: No, I've always yeah, yeah, no, I've always been.
- 30:40Speaker 1: And how many years are you going from that first
- 30:42Speaker 1: meeting to the point where you're like, let me pick
- 30:45Speaker 1: up the franchise ball again.
- 30:46Speaker 2: So it's about four years.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Four years wow, So four years of pustling and you
- 30:49Speaker 1: go revisit.
- 30:52Speaker 2: And I thought I was doing something, but I was
- 30:55Speaker 2: nowhere close to being a franchise only yet I'm already
- 30:57Speaker 2: feeling myself and I'm like, hey, pop, I want a franchise.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Now I got the money, I'm good.
- 31:03Speaker 1: So how much money did you think you had at
- 31:05Speaker 1: the time that was enough to start having that conversation.
- 31:08Speaker 2: About one hundred grand okay for all your listeners, And
- 31:14Speaker 2: how old were you at the time. I was, what
- 31:20Speaker 2: twenty four?
- 31:21Speaker 1: Okay?
- 31:22Speaker 2: So so yeah, man, like one hundred grand, everything's good.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I think I'm someone, I think I'm something.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I would I would definitely feel that.
- 31:34Speaker 2: And you know, now one hundred grand isn't much now, but.
- 31:37Speaker 1: At the time, we're also twenty four. Okay.
- 31:41Speaker 2: So my dad introduced me to his Fratt brother at
- 31:44Speaker 2: William's Chicken and He's like, man, I like what you're doing.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I like everything about you. So he was like, how
- 31:51Speaker 2: about we do this. How about you do an internship
- 31:53Speaker 2: and just kind of see and float around the store
- 31:56Speaker 2: to see if this is what you really want, because
- 31:58Speaker 2: a lot of people might say they want a frame,
- 32:00Speaker 2: but they don't know about franchise. So I'm doing that
- 32:04Speaker 2: and I'm like, okay, I can get down with this.
- 32:07Speaker 2: And about a week or so later, he's like, hey,
- 32:09Speaker 2: you know what, we have a problem at one of
- 32:11Speaker 2: these other stores. How about you become a manager and
- 32:16Speaker 2: this can be the store that you end up owning,
- 32:19Speaker 2: so you can manage it. Just play like you're the manager,
- 32:22Speaker 2: and then this can be the store that you own.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Okay, and then what's the name of this franchise?
- 32:26Speaker 2: It is Williams Chicken.
- 32:27Speaker 1: William's Chicken. Again, you jump on the opportunity. You go
- 32:30Speaker 1: from intern which is free, to manager. And so they
- 32:34Speaker 1: had senior work ethic or something to say, hey, we
- 32:36Speaker 1: want to give you.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I think it was crazy. They must have thought that
- 32:39Speaker 2: I was some manager or something. So this is the
- 32:42Speaker 2: crazy part. So let me so let me back up here.
- 32:45Speaker 2: So I didn't have any manager experience at all. But
- 32:49Speaker 2: my mindset is like, Okay, I'm not going to tell
- 32:52Speaker 2: them I don't have any managers, right, so I'm looking
- 32:56Speaker 2: at it like I'm going to do whatever i need
- 32:58Speaker 2: to do to get to where I'm going. I'm going
- 33:01Speaker 2: to learn franchising and management on the fly. So no experience, nothing,
- 33:06Speaker 2: I take it. So the good thing about it also
- 33:09Speaker 2: is I need for everyone to understand internship. Let me
- 33:12Speaker 2: say it on this camera. Don't be afraid to be
- 33:14Speaker 2: an intern. I know a lot of the younger generation
- 33:18Speaker 2: they don't want to be interns. They think that nothing
- 33:21Speaker 2: comes with it. You don't know who you're going to meet,
- 33:24Speaker 2: you don't know what you're going to learn. Forget if
- 33:26Speaker 2: it doesn't have any money attached to it.
- 33:28Speaker 1: But now you're also speaking from the perspective of a
- 33:30Speaker 1: seasoned entrepreneur. You'll also have residual money coming in. But
- 33:34Speaker 1: I still agree with you on the sense of that.
- 33:37Speaker 1: But you know you are talking from the perspective of
- 33:40Speaker 1: I can take one for the team because I have
- 33:42Speaker 1: residual businesses.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Right right, very true, But I do also want to
- 33:47Speaker 2: make that a lot of people, a lot of people
- 33:50Speaker 2: they think I'm not going to do this internship. You
- 33:52Speaker 2: just never internships.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Hell no, I want to jumped on that internship, especially
- 33:56Speaker 1: if I'm trying to get into franchising, because you know,
- 33:58Speaker 1: there's people that go to college never they're like, I'm
- 34:02Speaker 1: going to go to school to be a lawyer, and
- 34:04Speaker 1: then they spend all this money and they become a
- 34:06Speaker 1: lawyer and they realize they don't even like that. So
- 34:08Speaker 1: internship is definitely a way to go. But I do
- 34:11Speaker 1: want to emphasize the fact that you put in a
- 34:13Speaker 1: lot of work to have residual money, so it was
- 34:16Speaker 1: a lot easier to pursue your dreams when you have
- 34:18Speaker 1: your residual I'm sure you're still working, but it was
- 34:21Speaker 1: more residuals. At this point, it's a machine because I'll continue.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Sorry, no, you're good, You're good. So I look at
- 34:26Speaker 2: it like I already got those three strings of income coming.
- 34:29Speaker 2: This is extream number four. I am now a general
- 34:32Speaker 2: manager getting paid a salary to learn the business. So
- 34:36Speaker 2: now that's four strings and income. So all that's going on,
- 34:40Speaker 2: I'm learning the system, I'm learning the ropes, and I'm
- 34:43Speaker 2: a damn good manager.
- 34:44Speaker 1: And do you love it?
- 34:46Speaker 2: It's cool? You know what I mean? I love that
- 34:49Speaker 2: I'm learning, but I realize over time that this might
- 34:53Speaker 2: not be for me, at least Williams. So I kind
- 34:56Speaker 2: of start to take a step back and I kind
- 34:58Speaker 2: of go my own out and.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Say, you know what made you say it may not
- 35:02Speaker 1: be for you?
- 35:03Speaker 2: I think it's just it's cool locally, but I'm thinking
- 35:06Speaker 2: bigger than that. Okay, So I'm like, I'm gonna do
- 35:10Speaker 2: something different. So I kind of take a step back
- 35:13Speaker 2: and I kind of just take that risk and say,
- 35:15Speaker 2: you know what, I appreciate the experience and I appreciate
- 35:18Speaker 2: the opportunity, but I'm a pass So remember.
- 35:21Speaker 1: How soon did you make that decision? Oh?
- 35:23Speaker 2: No, it was like maybe seven eight, nine months, So
- 35:27Speaker 2: I definitely put in the work. So remember that Wingstop
- 35:30Speaker 2: person I told you about I met fresh out of
- 35:32Speaker 2: high school. I end up getting back in contact with him,
- 35:36Speaker 2: and when I come back to him, I tell him, Hey,
- 35:40Speaker 2: do you remember me? Did you told me all this
- 35:42Speaker 2: and that? And what's crazy? Is he right? And what's
- 35:45Speaker 2: crazy is he didn't really remember? But hilarious. But I mean,
- 35:50Speaker 2: I'm sure so many people that you know.
- 35:53Speaker 1: But I love that you came back to him. But
- 35:55Speaker 1: continue shows a lot of integrity.
- 35:57Speaker 2: It does. And he was like, I don't remember much
- 36:00Speaker 2: about our conversation, but man, you have everything, Like on
- 36:04Speaker 2: why you're killing it. He was like, you are doing
- 36:06Speaker 2: way better than people your age, and so I'm like yeah.
- 36:11Speaker 2: So basically he's like, I tell you what I do,
- 36:13Speaker 2: and this is where networking and everything is very important
- 36:16Speaker 2: to everyone listening and watching. He said, how about you
- 36:20Speaker 2: come work for me and over time, I'll let you
- 36:23Speaker 2: buy fifty percent of one of my stores. And so,
- 36:28Speaker 2: so keep in mind this the og that.
- 36:31Speaker 1: So this is him right up the alley you want.
- 36:33Speaker 2: And keep in mind this the og that bought franchise
- 36:35Speaker 2: in two wing stops. Yeah, so he's like, you got
- 36:38Speaker 2: to think he has all this money, all these millions.
- 36:40Speaker 1: So he's scarious. What's his race? I hate to be
- 36:43Speaker 1: that person. He's a black guy. So it's and so
- 36:46Speaker 1: so totally something you could really exactly exactly.
- 36:50Speaker 2: You know how they say though, be careful meeting your heroes.
- 36:54Speaker 2: He wasn't necessarily my hero, but I get into that
- 36:56Speaker 2: in a minute. But so I'm doing that. I'm like,
- 37:00Speaker 2: let's get it, like I fifty wingstop, Like, let me
- 37:05Speaker 2: do it. So I'm working at Wingstop doing the managing stuff,
- 37:08Speaker 2: and oh, by the way, let me throw this in there.
- 37:10Speaker 2: He said. Basically, you'll get the fifty percent and then
- 37:13Speaker 2: you can either buy me out over time for my
- 37:15Speaker 2: fifty percent, or you can have the fifty percent and
- 37:18Speaker 2: you can go open up your own wingstop. But rest
- 37:21Speaker 2: assured I'll be there to help you get that because
- 37:23Speaker 2: you helped me out, I'm gonna help you out.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Wait. He saw you as helping him.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Out right, because he was like, you're learning the game,
- 37:29Speaker 2: but also I need help at one of my stores.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Got it so okay? And he's now if you think
- 37:34Speaker 1: about from his perspective, he's it's a smart chess move
- 37:38Speaker 1: for him because he has an employee slash partner that's
- 37:42Speaker 1: really invested in now exactly got it.
- 37:45Speaker 2: And that's another way for everyone watching and listening. If
- 37:47Speaker 2: you don't have the money, there's ways to get into
- 37:51Speaker 2: the game. There's ways to get into the game to
- 37:53Speaker 2: where you might not have the money, but find you
- 37:57Speaker 2: a OG, a season OG that has the money has
- 38:01Speaker 2: the opportunities to basically get you in the door. You'll
- 38:06Speaker 2: just be surprised.
- 38:06Speaker 1: And if you pay attention to your story too, communication
- 38:10Speaker 1: is key here. Yes, when you're in business for yourself,
- 38:14Speaker 1: hiring the right people is probably one of the hardest
- 38:18Speaker 1: and the most riskiest investments you can make. So when
- 38:21Speaker 1: you get someone that's intentional about working for you that's like, hey,
- 38:25Speaker 1: I want to be where you're at, you now know
- 38:28Speaker 1: that your investment is a little bit more safer, especially
- 38:31Speaker 1: if they have the level of integrity that Skyler has,
- 38:34Speaker 1: where he's like, I did your checklist here, I am anxiety,
- 38:38Speaker 1: so I'll continue and I'm just recapping with you all
- 38:40Speaker 1: that good.
- 38:41Speaker 2: You're good. So over time I'm realizing I'm killing everything
- 38:46Speaker 2: that he's asking me to do, and I'm checking everything
- 38:49Speaker 2: off the box. I'm running his store good. I helped
- 38:51Speaker 2: him open up a brand new store, hired all his staff.
- 38:55Speaker 2: I just did all of those different things for him.
- 38:57Speaker 2: But I've noticed as Tom's going, he's not holding his
- 39:00Speaker 2: end of the of the bargain. So I'm like, I
- 39:03Speaker 2: almost feel like I'm just working there.
- 39:05Speaker 1: And his end would be like when you guys have
- 39:07Speaker 1: that discussion.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Right, and when I would kind of bring it up,
- 39:11Speaker 2: he would kind of like, we'll get to it later.
- 39:12Speaker 2: We'll get to it later. And so I'm like, all right,
- 39:15Speaker 2: I'll see how this's going. And one thing about me,
- 39:18Speaker 2: I like to control my own destiny. I don't really
- 39:21Speaker 2: like when somebody tries to almost like I'm a puppet
- 39:26Speaker 2: and you're controlling the streams.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Well, you're an entrepreneur, right, You're you're you believe in
- 39:30Speaker 1: controlling that ship. Right, So I can see that, and
- 39:34Speaker 1: I can see how if you're coming from a place
- 39:36Speaker 1: of integrity, how when someone lacks integrity, it's it's almost
- 39:41Speaker 1: like off putting and deflating, right because now you're like,
- 39:44Speaker 1: what am I doing? Right?
- 39:45Speaker 2: And I will say, though, shout out to him, because
- 39:48Speaker 2: I still learned a lot. Now I have experience from two.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Different So he didn't end up holding up.
- 39:53Speaker 2: He didn't end up holding it, and I left. I
- 39:57Speaker 2: chose to leave because I'm like, man, I kind of
- 39:59Speaker 2: feel like i'm and played a little bit, and so
- 40:02Speaker 2: I took that risk and so I'm back in the rut.
- 40:07Speaker 2: But I still have the other income coming in. But
- 40:09Speaker 2: again going back to what I said earlier, I hate
- 40:11Speaker 2: seeing certain accounts.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Okay, well no, especially because now you're at you came
- 40:15Speaker 1: from now two places that are offering you salaries. So
- 40:17Speaker 1: this is your fourth income, and it's a sustainable, healthy
- 40:21Speaker 1: fourth income. So yeah, I can understand that. That's how
- 40:24Speaker 1: I am, just so you know, I'll be not for.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Real, for real, and so all of that's going on.
- 40:29Speaker 2: So I'm back almost starting from scratch. Do you watch Martin?
- 40:33Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, you know the.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Episode start from Scratch? That was literally me. So I'm
- 40:37Speaker 2: starting back from scratch.
- 40:38Speaker 1: But now, but here's the thing, though, You're starting back
- 40:41Speaker 1: from scratch with a lot of years of entrepreneurship for sure,
- 40:44Speaker 1: management two different franchises that you've been managed, able to build,
- 40:48Speaker 1: and you know the processes and all.
- 40:50Speaker 2: So you already see all in the groundwork. I'm literally
- 40:54Speaker 2: laying the groundwork.
- 40:54Speaker 1: You don't succeed, I'd be surprised, all right. I see
- 40:57Speaker 1: where Smooie King's coming, right, So what happens?
- 41:00Speaker 2: So I'm trying to figure it out. And now I'm
- 41:03Speaker 2: thinking Smoothie King. So this is where I thought I
- 41:06Speaker 2: was close, but I'm still not even close to being close.
- 41:10Speaker 2: So I see Smovie King, and I see that they're
- 41:12Speaker 2: hiring for a manager, and I also know that their
- 41:15Speaker 2: corporate headquarters is in Dallas, Texas. Okay, so I'm like,
- 41:21Speaker 2: how about I work there. The corporate offices are right there.
- 41:25Speaker 2: I be there every day in bug them. If I
- 41:26Speaker 2: have to, I'm going to get a franchise. And for
- 41:29Speaker 2: those that don't know, Smoovie King is the number one
- 41:32Speaker 2: smoothie brand in.
- 41:34Speaker 1: The nation than Jambas and everybody else.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Way bigger than Jumba. Very funny story about Jumba by
- 41:40Speaker 2: the way. But yeah, well, Smoovie King was really close
- 41:44Speaker 2: to being in in California, really really close. A lot
- 41:47Speaker 2: of people always ask about Smovie King being there. It
- 41:50Speaker 2: was really close. But nonetheless, who was their first movie
- 41:54Speaker 2: or Jamva in California in general? Oh, Smoovie King, movie King,
- 42:01Speaker 2: literally Smoovies. It started from Smoovie King.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Got it?
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 42:04Speaker 1: Okay, so they're the OG's and you're number one in
- 42:06Speaker 1: the nation, right, Okay, so gone, you're do you apply
- 42:10Speaker 1: for this manager position?
- 42:11Speaker 2: I apply for the manager position. But I learned my
- 42:13Speaker 2: lesson from my last run, and I told them at
- 42:15Speaker 2: the interview the only way that I am going to
- 42:19Speaker 2: do this is that y'all know I'm not here long term.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I am here to be a franchisee. That's it. They agreed,
- 42:27Speaker 2: they said, cool, So as soon as I got hired.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Now I'm on LinkedIn shooting my LinkedIn shot at anybody
- 42:33Speaker 2: that works for Smoovie King, any franchise owner. I'm just
- 42:36Speaker 2: sending messages because you got to think about it. The
- 42:39Speaker 2: worst thing that can happen is they don't respond.
- 42:41Speaker 1: But now, what about the manager that you're reporting to
- 42:44Speaker 1: that's above you. There you shooting your shot with them?
- 42:46Speaker 1: You just didn't feel I.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Didn't because they're working on the corporate end. So the
- 42:51Speaker 2: Smoothie King corporate stores, like they have corporate stores, and
- 42:54Speaker 2: then obviously majority of it is franchise So.
- 42:57Speaker 1: You were at a corporate st.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I was at a corporate store. So if you're
- 43:00Speaker 2: putting the two to two together, I'm working for corporate
- 43:03Speaker 2: so that y'all can know my name and know about me,
- 43:06Speaker 2: and the corporate office is here, so I'm basically trying
- 43:08Speaker 2: to make sure that y'all know exactly who I am.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Now, is that better that you went to work for
- 43:11Speaker 1: corporate versus a franchise e? Well, at this point after
- 43:15Speaker 1: your experience.
- 43:15Speaker 2: With financially as well, Yeah, because corporate obviously is gonna.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Pay more, got it.
- 43:20Speaker 2: But again, I'm just trying to make sure that my
- 43:23Speaker 2: name is being known. So again I'm shooting shooting my
- 43:27Speaker 2: my my corporate shot at anyone. I'm talking. I'm shooting
- 43:30Speaker 2: this to the CEO, say, you know, just hey, how's
- 43:33Speaker 2: it going. My name is Skuyler. I'm recently a general manager.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I'm trying to franchise with you guys, just all of
- 43:39Speaker 2: that type of stuff, just you know, just really, you know.
- 43:42Speaker 2: So I'm doing that. I don't get a lot of
- 43:44Speaker 2: response responses from people, which, of course, but there are
- 43:48Speaker 2: some franchises, franchisees that reach back out from different parts
- 43:52Speaker 2: of the country and everything like that. So they're they're
- 43:55Speaker 2: and they know who they are, so shout out to
- 43:56Speaker 2: them that we're still talking to this day. So that's
- 44:00Speaker 2: going on. I'm starting to talk to the bank now
- 44:03Speaker 2: because again I'm feeling myself. I think that I'm ready.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I'm like, this is it? So I thought. So I
- 44:09Speaker 2: reach out to a bank and the bank is like,
- 44:13Speaker 2: everything is great. You have everything on paper, your credit
- 44:15Speaker 2: score is good, your financing is good. Yeah, you got
- 44:19Speaker 2: the experience. You got everything we need and everything we're
- 44:22Speaker 2: looking for. So I'm talking to the bank. But there's
- 44:25Speaker 2: two sides of this. I'm talking to the Smovie King
- 44:28Speaker 2: as well. Both ends got to prove your financials. So
- 44:31Speaker 2: I'm talking to Smovie King. They look over my financials
- 44:34Speaker 2: and they say, everything looks good. Come to Discovery Day.
- 44:37Speaker 2: So discovery day is basically where the franchise, the potential
- 44:41Speaker 2: franchisee goes and flies out to the corporate headquarters. But
- 44:45Speaker 2: I'm already in Dallas, So all I gotta do is try.
- 44:47Speaker 2: They come and learn about the business. They come and
- 44:50Speaker 2: learn about everything. So the CEO is in there presenting
- 44:54Speaker 2: everything to everybody. He's talking about the brand and everything
- 44:58Speaker 2: about that. As after he's finished, he has everybody in
- 45:02Speaker 2: the room that wants to be a part of Smoothie
- 45:04Speaker 2: King introduced themselves. Everyone standing up. I mean they just flexing.
- 45:08Speaker 2: I own fifteen Taco bells and I own this, I
- 45:11Speaker 2: own fifty franchises. I mean, everyone just flexing. And when
- 45:14Speaker 2: it's my turn to stand.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Up on before you get to that, how does that
- 45:18Speaker 1: make you feel?
- 45:20Speaker 2: Very little? Okay, very little? It's my turn to speak.
- 45:24Speaker 2: So I'm hearing as.
- 45:26Speaker 1: The young person, right, and are you do other people
- 45:29Speaker 1: look like you? Meaning like black? Or they all different?
- 45:31Speaker 2: There were a few black people, but you know, they're
- 45:34Speaker 2: all older, gray hair, all of that. So I stand
- 45:38Speaker 2: up after hearing all these people say everything, and I'm
- 45:40Speaker 2: just like, hey, how's it going. My name is Skuyler.
- 45:43Speaker 2: I'm trying to be a franchise owner, and I am
- 45:47Speaker 2: a multi union manager for Smoothe King Corps because by
- 45:50Speaker 2: this time, I ended up managing multiple stores. So I'm
- 45:52Speaker 2: a multi union manager for Smoothe King. And then I
- 45:55Speaker 2: sit down and I feel like a clown at this point.
- 45:58Speaker 2: So the CEO goes back about his debt and he's
- 46:00Speaker 2: walking out the door, but before he leaves, he looks
- 46:03Speaker 2: at me in my eyes and walks up to me
- 46:06Speaker 2: and shakes my hand and says, you're doing a really
- 46:08Speaker 2: good job. So and then he walks out. So but
- 46:13Speaker 2: I'm just saying, like, pitt your erin this big room
- 46:17Speaker 2: all I felt amazing, okay.
- 46:19Speaker 1: And do you think he was saying that because you're
- 46:21Speaker 1: running his stores or because.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Like you got to this point, got to that.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Point, got it, got it?
- 46:26Speaker 2: So so he says, you're doing a really good job.
- 46:29Speaker 2: So at this point, I'm smiling ear to ear okay,
- 46:32Speaker 2: and I'm thinking everything is in the bag. If the
- 46:35Speaker 2: CEO knows who I am, you know, so I thought. So.
- 46:39Speaker 2: I remember later on that day I'll never forget there
- 46:42Speaker 2: was this older black dude. He was like, man, why
- 46:43Speaker 2: are you smiling so much? And I was just like, man,
- 46:45Speaker 2: if you knew what I had to do to get here,
- 46:49Speaker 2: then you would understand that. You know, I'm just happy.
- 46:53Speaker 2: And by the way, and while this is going on,
- 46:57Speaker 2: six months prior, that's when I lost my mom and
- 46:59Speaker 2: my brother. So I lost still so around the time
- 47:03Speaker 2: before I got Tomovie King, that's when I lost my
- 47:06Speaker 2: mom and I lost my brother six months apart from
- 47:09Speaker 2: each other. So all this is going on. But again
- 47:12Speaker 2: I'm saying, I'm not gonna stop.
- 47:14Speaker 1: And so now to backtrack a little bit, this burger
- 47:18Speaker 1: gets personal. There's everyone close with depression differently right now,
- 47:23Speaker 1: are you a coper? Do you think that, looking back,
- 47:26Speaker 1: that you were coping with the distraction of these high
- 47:30Speaker 1: mountains that you had to climb.
- 47:32Speaker 2: It was definitely good to have that. But I'm one
- 47:35Speaker 2: of those obviously I miss him. I'm sad, but I
- 47:39Speaker 2: mean that's unfortunate. You know, that's part of life. It hurts, But.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Losing your mom at a young age, I don't know
- 47:46Speaker 1: if it was like, like my grandfather he died of
- 47:48Speaker 1: cancer to a new hospice or whatever. Was it one
- 47:50Speaker 1: of those where you were kind of preparing for them
- 47:52Speaker 1: or was it a shocker?
- 47:53Speaker 2: It was not my brother that was a complete shocker. Okay,
- 47:56Speaker 2: that was like, got that phone call.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I'm like, what, he's young, but your mom you kind
- 48:01Speaker 1: of knew there was some kind of Okay, is that
- 48:04Speaker 1: part of the health journey?
- 48:05Speaker 2: It is?
- 48:05Speaker 1: Okay, got it? So go back to why you're smiling.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Sorry, yeah, no, you're good. So I'm just smiling because
- 48:13Speaker 2: I'm like, bro, if you knew what I've been going
- 48:16Speaker 2: through in my journey to get here, just to be
- 48:19Speaker 2: around all y'all rich folks, you will know why I'm smiling.
- 48:21Speaker 2: You know what I mean. So that's what was going on.
- 48:23Speaker 2: So a few days past in Smoovie King Cosmic back
- 48:27Speaker 2: and say, hey, Skylar, so you met the financial liquid cash,
- 48:32Speaker 2: but your net worth wasn't there. So at this point
- 48:35Speaker 2: I'm like, bruh what.
- 48:37Speaker 1: So like, what do you mean no no assets?
- 48:40Speaker 2: Well, so I have the liquid assets, but would be
- 48:44Speaker 2: like You're like yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. And I
- 48:48Speaker 2: didn't even have a home or anything at the time.
- 48:50Speaker 1: So but now is that one of those situations where
- 48:52Speaker 1: you could finagle like, hey, my dad owns an asset,
- 48:54Speaker 1: and I'm.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Well, see that's the thing. My we came from a
- 48:57Speaker 2: middle class, so it's not let me make that very
- 49:00Speaker 2: there my dad and he wasn't like some rich man
- 49:03Speaker 2: or you know, just a middle No.
- 49:06Speaker 1: So when you hit that, there was no way around.
- 49:09Speaker 2: So when my mom ended up getting sick, we ended
- 49:12Speaker 2: up selling our house and so all of that. So
- 49:16Speaker 2: all of that's going on, so smoothe king says that,
- 49:19Speaker 2: and I'm like, so, like, what do I do now?
- 49:23Speaker 2: And then to the open wound to add salt? Poor
- 49:26Speaker 2: the whole bottle of salt in it. The bank caused
- 49:28Speaker 2: me back and say, so we're actually going in a
- 49:30Speaker 2: different direction right now, so we're not going to be
- 49:33Speaker 2: able to fund you. So now I'm back at square
- 49:37Speaker 2: one again. I said every curse word probably.
- 49:41Speaker 1: A thousand times.
- 49:42Speaker 2: I didn't cry. I was hurt, but I didn't cry.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Damn so strong. I know a lot of even rappers
- 49:49Speaker 1: on this show that will be like, yeah, I tear
- 49:52Speaker 1: up out of frustration.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Frustration was.
- 49:57Speaker 1: So how did you deal with it? You just set
- 49:59Speaker 1: a couple of cursors.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Oh no, I cussed them to hell out. C Yeah,
- 50:03Speaker 2: I cursed them to hell out. Not Smovie King, but
- 50:05Speaker 2: the bank. I was pissed, but I kept it pushing
- 50:08Speaker 2: because I'm like, I am going to get this.
- 50:10Speaker 1: But now, when you get a call about net worth,
- 50:12Speaker 1: how do you I could see someone like you going,
- 50:15Speaker 1: what do I gotta do to build this net worth? Right?
- 50:18Speaker 1: Is that what you're thinking?
- 50:19Speaker 2: Yeah? So I ended up buying a house. That was
- 50:22Speaker 2: one thing I did. I was like, okay, we're going
- 50:23Speaker 2: to buy a home. And so all I'm doing as
- 50:26Speaker 2: well is that liquid cash. I'm continuing to do that.
- 50:28Speaker 2: So I'm just finding out different ways to build that
- 50:31Speaker 2: net worth up. So all of this is going on.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Sorry, I love you. It's just and I just got
- 50:38Speaker 1: to say this. The fact that you said, yeah, okay,
- 50:43Speaker 1: they said net worth, which is I assumed you know,
- 50:45Speaker 1: you'd have to own a home or whatever, right, But
- 50:47Speaker 1: the fact that you just glided over that fact that, yeah,
- 50:50Speaker 1: I found out I didn't have enough net worth, So
- 50:53Speaker 1: what did you do? Well? Then I had to go
- 50:55Speaker 1: buy a home, right? Amazing? Amazing, Like, oh, okay, this
- 51:00Speaker 1: is the rules. I'll play by the rules.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Okay, you're right, You're not going to tell me no.
- 51:05Speaker 2: So I'm going to get it one way or another.
- 51:07Speaker 2: Just let me know what I need to do so
- 51:08Speaker 2: that I can do it so I can become a print.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Now, did you a little sidebar? Did you go for
- 51:12Speaker 1: a hollorrific home or what were you looking for when
- 51:15Speaker 1: you bought to creation this? Fine? Right?
- 51:17Speaker 2: So I bought this home just to basically make it
- 51:22Speaker 2: a just to basically make it an asset, to make
- 51:24Speaker 2: it to where I can make it a rental property.
- 51:26Speaker 2: So I buy it with the intention of it's the
- 51:28Speaker 2: first time home, but it is brand new, it's in
- 51:31Speaker 2: a very nice area where people we will never have
- 51:33Speaker 2: a problem rented out. But it also look great on paper.
- 51:36Speaker 2: That was my whole reason.
- 51:37Speaker 1: So you were looking for Now, were you looking for
- 51:40Speaker 1: equity from the jump or you just looking for just
- 51:42Speaker 1: something that has like a value of say five hundred
- 51:46Speaker 1: thousand or whatever? Is that? What point are you looking
- 51:48Speaker 1: for when you're looking to both?
- 51:50Speaker 2: Actually both, And I'm still learning the home business at
- 51:53Speaker 2: the time, so I'm just thinking I'll just buy a home.
- 51:55Speaker 2: But yes, so that's basically what I did it for
- 51:57Speaker 2: for equity and just to have this on paper. That
- 52:00Speaker 2: was my whole sole.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Reason for it, right, all right, So continue.
- 52:04Speaker 2: So no you're good. So no, no, you're good. You're good.
- 52:08Speaker 1: I don't know why, all right.
- 52:09Speaker 2: So every all that's going on. So I'm back to
- 52:13Speaker 2: square one again because both of those, the bank and
- 52:17Speaker 2: Smovie King, that didn't work out, So going back to.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Wait, they didn't work out, but they were more on hold.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Not right, Yeah, for sure, for sure. So as I'm
- 52:26Speaker 2: still working a movie king, I tell my pops Lie,
- 52:29Speaker 2: I tell him the situation because I talked to my
- 52:31Speaker 2: mom and my dad a lot about all those things. Obviously,
- 52:33Speaker 2: my mom's not there anymore at that point, but I
- 52:35Speaker 2: did talk to them along the way, so she knew
- 52:37Speaker 2: the journey, she knew the mission. So that's one good
- 52:39Speaker 2: thing I have out of it all. She knew before
- 52:42Speaker 2: she died that I was going to get a franchised.
- 52:45Speaker 2: So all that's going on. He says, Hey, remember he's
- 52:49Speaker 2: a networker, he knows everyone. He says, I have another
- 52:51Speaker 2: frid brother that's the CEO of a bank. I want
- 52:54Speaker 2: you to go talk to him. So so man shouts
- 52:59Speaker 2: out to my dad. So I go and I meet
- 53:03Speaker 2: with him. Everything's going good. I'm all nice, nicely clean
- 53:08Speaker 2: cut suit and tie, have a nice presentation, everything is
- 53:12Speaker 2: going great. I'm thinking that everything's going to pan out.
- 53:17Speaker 2: This is my shot. He already knows my dad really well,
- 53:20Speaker 2: so this is I got this, so I thought. So
- 53:24Speaker 2: I meet up with him and he's like, look, Skyler,
- 53:27Speaker 2: everything you have is good. Everything you have is amazing.
- 53:32Speaker 2: And at this point I'm fresher. I'm like, yeah, I know,
- 53:34Speaker 2: but you can't help me out. Just go ahead and
- 53:35Speaker 2: tell me. So he was like, but this isn't really
- 53:38Speaker 2: the direction that we want to go as at our bank.
- 53:41Speaker 2: So so I'm just like all right. So he say
- 53:49Speaker 2: he'll call around, but you know, but I was just like,
- 53:52Speaker 2: it's all good. At this point, I'm already good myself anyway.
- 53:56Speaker 2: So I end up keeping in touch with him, and
- 54:00Speaker 2: I get back to him down the line. So I
- 54:03Speaker 2: end up saying a little about a year or so
- 54:05Speaker 2: passes by, and this is now we're getting kind of
- 54:07Speaker 2: closer to COVID. So at this point, at this point,
- 54:17Speaker 2: at this point, again my money, I'm just stacking it
- 54:20Speaker 2: in and continuing renters. No, not even yet. So this
- 54:25Speaker 2: is just this is just me I haven't even got
- 54:27Speaker 2: to the renting.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Part yet, living in the house and living over there
- 54:31Speaker 1: at least.
- 54:32Speaker 2: No, no, he's not.
- 54:33Speaker 1: So you're you're you're you're flowing.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no for sure. And the good thing about it,
- 54:37Speaker 2: if you remember during COVID, that's when the market value
- 54:40Speaker 2: of homes just shot through the roof.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Oh well, I feel like the best time to buy.
- 54:48Speaker 2: Well, it was definitely good to buy, especially interest racing everything.
- 54:52Speaker 2: But like, yeah, I.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Think you're right. They were they because my house was
- 54:56Speaker 1: probably the most ever was.
- 54:58Speaker 2: So I go and now I can do it things
- 55:02Speaker 2: on my own. So I go back to a different
- 55:04Speaker 2: bank and I start talking to them, and then on
- 55:07Speaker 2: the other side, I start talking to Smoothie King again.
- 55:10Speaker 2: I'm like, I'm in a better space. Now let's get
- 55:14Speaker 2: to talking. And I find a franchise owner in the area,
- 55:18Speaker 2: in the Dallas Fort Worth area that's trying to sell
- 55:20Speaker 2: because she has a whole bunch of airbnbs and everything
- 55:23Speaker 2: like that. So she's just like, I want to sell
- 55:25Speaker 2: my Smoothie King and just do real estate. So we
- 55:29Speaker 2: start negotiating something I presented the Smoothie King and this
- 55:32Speaker 2: is where the amazing part happened. So remember that that
- 55:37Speaker 2: same CEO that shook my hand, he ended up being
- 55:42Speaker 2: the one to sign off on me becoming a franchise owner.
- 55:46Speaker 2: So I finally did it. I finally did it. I
- 55:52Speaker 2: finally did it. But wow, that that CEO today is
- 55:59Speaker 2: my personal mentor.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Wow.
- 56:02Speaker 2: So yeah, everything's great. He's my personal mentor. Everything is amazing.
- 56:12Speaker 1: I was like, man, you are both.
- 56:16Speaker 2: So what's crazy is though, So remember that CEO at
- 56:20Speaker 2: the bank, right, Yeah, I ended up getting cool em.
- 56:24Speaker 2: He's my personal mentor now. So now I'm talking to
- 56:28Speaker 2: them on a whole different level now. So now the
- 56:31Speaker 2: CEO is my personal mentor. The bank, the bank of
- 56:35Speaker 2: the CEO of the bank, he's my personal mentor. And
- 56:38Speaker 2: now they're giving me game that I didn't even know
- 56:41Speaker 2: about it. You know, I'm talking to the obviously, he's
- 56:44Speaker 2: the CEO of Smoothie King. So man, the stuff that
- 56:48Speaker 2: he knows and the knowledge.
- 56:49Speaker 1: That he has and you got hands on as a
- 56:51Speaker 1: franchise owner. So like when you're really faced in the dark,
- 56:54Speaker 1: you get to call the the real Now also with
- 56:59Speaker 1: him being your mentor, is is he able to I
- 57:02Speaker 1: don't want to ask this, but I'm gonna is he
- 57:04Speaker 1: able to my mentors are assholes, like in the sense
- 57:07Speaker 1: of they make me great because they do not bend
- 57:11Speaker 1: the rules for me.
- 57:12Speaker 2: He does not for me.
- 57:13Speaker 1: So that's how I was asking.
- 57:14Speaker 2: He does not be in the rules for me, but
- 57:22Speaker 2: he holds me to a standard, like the goal for
- 57:24Speaker 2: me is twenty five plus movie kings. And I'm on
- 57:28Speaker 2: store number four, working on store, working.
- 57:31Speaker 1: To get for the stores that that lady had.
- 57:34Speaker 2: I'm sorry, bought the stores that the well only about
- 57:36Speaker 2: that one store, so she only had one store and
- 57:39Speaker 2: then so I've multiplied ever since then.
- 57:41Speaker 1: So so how did you get the other stores? So
- 57:43Speaker 1: after you got the one, did you become when did
- 57:44Speaker 1: he become your mentor?
- 57:45Speaker 2: So he became a mentor, like right when I was
- 57:48Speaker 2: getting that first one.
- 57:49Speaker 1: So and he shook your hand and he signed he
- 57:52Speaker 1: was there, is he traditionally there with all of the
- 57:54Speaker 1: signings or just.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Oh just me, you know, you know, I gotta have
- 57:58Speaker 2: some gotta have some kind of perks today.
- 58:00Speaker 1: But so he showed up for you. Did you think
- 58:02Speaker 1: he remembered.
- 58:04Speaker 2: Are you talking about remember from Discovery day or from
- 58:07Speaker 2: Discovery Yeah, no, he for sure remembered.
- 58:09Speaker 1: So he wanted to be there for yours.
- 58:11Speaker 2: Yes, and so he mane one is amazing that that
- 58:16Speaker 2: dude therapy.
- 58:17Speaker 1: I've seen a picture of him on your Instagram. Yes,
- 58:18Speaker 1: I think it was your Instagram. I was snooping.
- 58:21Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's all good. Yeah, so man, we have
- 58:23Speaker 2: several pictures and again I'm gonna be with him later
- 58:25Speaker 2: this week actually, but man, I'm forever indebted to that man.
- 58:29Speaker 2: He he literally helped get me over that hurdle. And
- 58:34Speaker 2: that goes back to again networking and showing your worth
- 58:37Speaker 2: and showing who you are as an individual.
- 58:39Speaker 1: You showed a lot of integrity though, Like I if
- 58:41Speaker 1: you walked out of here today and said I want
- 58:43Speaker 1: to build a robot, I'd be like, like, you know,
- 58:48Speaker 1: even if it takes him ten years.
- 58:49Speaker 2: Right now, and well, let me say this is what
- 58:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry. So back to the CEO of the bank.
- 58:54Speaker 2: That's my personal mentor we have a relationship now to
- 58:58Speaker 2: where Man, these people got like athlete money. I need
- 59:02Speaker 2: for people to understand. I think they hear me, but
- 59:04Speaker 2: I don't think they understand these people got money, money, money, money, money,
- 59:08Speaker 2: and what I like about when we hang out. Now
- 59:11Speaker 2: he's trying to introduce me and me have me be
- 59:13Speaker 2: a part of his golfing club to where all his
- 59:16Speaker 2: buddies they they have Like, so they're.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Trying to invest in you probably now, man.
- 59:23Speaker 2: If you want to call it investing or just showing
- 59:25Speaker 2: the young buck the ropes. I mean, I'm around people
- 59:28Speaker 2: that got millions of.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Mens like, oh, you're golfing and stuff.
- 59:31Speaker 2: I haven't got to golfing yet. But he's trying to
- 59:33Speaker 2: get me there, and so no, for real, for real,
- 59:38Speaker 2: and so he's man, he's like, this person knows this,
- 59:41Speaker 2: this person owns this, this person has this, this person
- 59:44Speaker 2: has that. So they're showing me the ropes and getting
- 59:48Speaker 2: me cause that's kind of where I'm at now, is okay,
- 59:51Speaker 2: how do I get to the next level? Like I've
- 59:53Speaker 2: already reached seven figures? How do I reach the next level?
- 59:57Speaker 2: How do I get to eight figures?
- 59:58Speaker 1: Well, there's a couple of things in w to touch on. One.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Is he the one that does your loans for Smoothie King? Now?
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: No?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: No, no, he still doesn't.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: No. And now I'm to the point to where I
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: don't even got to get loans, you know what I mean, Like, oh,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: I'm sorry, you know hey.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Love, I love Flex. Oh you ain't got apologize. I'm
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: apologetic about that flex.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: And then my other question was from to go from
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: one franchise to the second, to the third to the fourth.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: How hard was that easy?
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: It was easier after you get that first franchise. I
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: need for everyone to understand. Once you get that first one,
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: it's almost like that's all you gotta do because after that,
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: it's up from there. Now, those same banks that were
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: turning me down this and that, and now they calling
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: my phone saying, hey, mister Skyler, when do you want
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: to open up another franchise? Now they're asking me when
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: do you want to like Smoothie King my my capital
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: and everything is so good now I don't have to
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: go through the same thing I went.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Do you own other houses? Are you just good with
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: your one right now?
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: I'm good with my one because I'm cheap, But.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I'm not cheap. You're wiseman money financially, you're financially literate.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: But you know, bigger things comes like people around in
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: my circle this and that, they want to see better
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: for me, you know, like my immediate family. They're like, Skylar,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: let's get a house let's get a bigger house, you
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: know what I mean. So that's that's where I'm at
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: now with that.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: Now do you think some of that comes from how
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: do I put this delicately? Like, you know, I think
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: being an entrepreneur, you're so focused on the goal. My
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: dad used to have this thing where he would say, like,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: frame what you do because sometimes when something hits me,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: like all those hurdles that you hit, you go on
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: to the point. Well, for me personally, I go into
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: self doubt. It's like I'm constantly me and this self
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: doubt devils like believe in yourself. Don't believe in yourself.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Believe in yourself. Don't. And my dad would be like,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: frame these milestones because you're working so hard you don't
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: see that. And then there's like the self love gets
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: a little funky because your way of self love is
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: pursuing these dreams. Right. But then if you don't take
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: the time to like treat yourself good, you know, and
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: especially be an entrepreneur, you know that it's never like
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: you it looks like it's kind of this, but it
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: technically is like this, you know. And so do you
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: think that some of your frugality is rooted in the
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: fact of like not really looking out for you.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: I look out for everybody but me, you know. And
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: it's funny you say that because there's a video when
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: I first got my franchise and reading the email and
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: everything during COVID, and I.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Was just can you send us that? By the way,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Oh man.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: I was looking so rough.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: A right, all right, so.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: No haircuts nothing.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: We would love the video if you do, get okay.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: But I was reading the email and looking back and
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: I was like, I didn't even crack a smile or anything,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: because I just went through so much to get there.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: I was just like, finally, like what's next. So yeah,
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: you would think that I was happy jumping up and down,
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: but I just I didn't even crack a smile in
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: that video. Wow, because man, it was just so much
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: to get there.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Now I see though, it's important for you to share
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: your story and to motivate others. Where do you think
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: that's coming from.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: Man, because I know the ropes. I'd been there, and
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: I think that people on the other end, I don't
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: think that they know that they can do it too,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Like anybody can be Skylar, You're not. Let's be real
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: about this. You're not gonna be Lebron James. You're not
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: gonna be jay Z. Shout out jay Z. I know
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: that's your favorite artist. You're not gonna be jay Z.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: You're not going to be Tyler the Creator. We're in
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: La Tyler the Creator. You're not going to be those people.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: You can, but it's like you got a better chance
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: of maybe hitting the lottery than that. It's it's kind
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: of even maybe so, but anyone can be me. And
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: I think a lot of people in our culture they
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: don't understand that you can be a franchise owner. I
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: don't even think, especially when I go to talk to
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: the youth at schools and stuff like that, they don't
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: even really know what franchising is. So it's my purpose
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: and my duty to show them, Hey, let me tap
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: into some of y'all at a young mind to where
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: you can do this too, you know what I mean, Like,
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: just start, just start, though, I.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Will say, though I'm older now, and I will say,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: there's a lot of I've done a lot of these interviews,
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: and there's core characteristics between the people that can do
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: it and cannot. And there's a couple of things I've
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: learned across doing these shows. One, if you listen to
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: scholars story, there's no balance. There's no balance of I'm
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: spending time with my friends volunteering at the VET, and
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: I have my girlfriend's slash wife or whatever, or I'm
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: spending all this time with the kids. I can almost
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: take a guess that there's no balance there.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: Right, It's I tried to keep a healthy balance. But
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: to your point, yes it is. And you you have
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: to be all in. You have to be.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: Deady and dedicated to the work. And then the other
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: thing is And I just want to to because your
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: story sounds amazing, but I want you guys to understand
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: out there like this is a person on a mission.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: You got kicked down, got up, kicked down again. I
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: personally would have I go through a victim route. Where
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: I go it's because I'm young, and maybe if I'm
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: closed on them, they would believe in me or whatever.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: You know. But the other thing you have that is
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: the undeniable force is integrity, and integrity is going to
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: beat it every time. And yes, whether you do or
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: do not have the jay Z skills, you know you're
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: right in that regard. But if you lack integrity, if
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: you give your word on getting someone. You know, my
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: daughter asked for some flower seeds, you know, even something
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: as small as I told my daughter I was gonna
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: give her some flower seeds before I got home. That
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: level of integrity, I can almost guess without a doubt
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: you're that level of intagraon that if you say something,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: you're gonna do it. And I think if you're at home,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: even if you're fourteen, twenty one or forty, you got
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: to start with that level of your word and your
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: brand because people are going to tie your brand to
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: your word, and if you look at Skuylar's story, all
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: you're seeing is integrity word, integrity word, integrity word, integrity.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: Facts. Yeah, and I think it sucks because along the way,
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: I've always had a few people that I wanted to
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: bring up with me, and I do have one. So
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: shout out to my district manager Patrick, like he's one
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: of the only ones that man, he gets it. But
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: along the way of my journey, I've had so many
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: people that I want to bring up with me to help,
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: and to your point, they don't. They don't get it.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: They don't get it.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Yep. I've had this studio for like five years and
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: I've had so many friends and I'm like, look, you
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: want to shoot, come in free on the house. I
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: would tell that to even guess, freak on the house.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I'm not even charging anyways, show up. Every time we
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: get on the phone. It's the same thing. And I
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: just like, and I don't know how you deal with
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: separating because your time is so valuable the people. And
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: that's for integrity for me is like I see it,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: and if you don't have it, you're not even gonna
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: clear like past a certain level with me. But for instance,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: like with your district manager, you see that level of integrity, right,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: that work, I think right for everyone else. When you
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: start to see those signs, are you less invested in
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: them because you already kind of seen.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not gonna say less invested. I always give
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: everyone a shot. Anyone can be a late bloomer. You
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: don't know someone's situation, what they're going through, whatever, So
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: I try to keep it fair for everybody. But I
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: also at the same time do like to focus a
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: little bit more of my time on people that get
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: it and actually care. So yeah, man, And what's crazy
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: is this is just the beginning for me like this
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: is just the beginning. This to me, this is just
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: the start of the journey. Like, man, I'm trying to
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: be on Shacks level. I'm trying to.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Be on well believe you'll get there without doubt.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: Like seeing people like Charlemagne with the crystals, to me,
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: that's that's inspiring. Like, so you you already got all
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: this going on. You got this going on. I can
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: keep naming athletes and rappers Rick Cross with the wingstops,
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Stuff like that shows me like, man,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: this is just the beginning, and I'm slowly starting to
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: not rub shoulders with them, but I'm at least being
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: noticed that I can do this same to the same
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: level that they're doing it. And so that's that's the
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: next goal. Like, man, I'm trying to be rich rich,
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: and I'm trying to show people you can be rich
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: rich as well.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And I think you like the art of
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: making money more than you like spending, which I align
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: with a lot, Like I don't really do nothing with money.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: It's like flipping it. Man.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: People, if you are around me and hung around me,
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: you will probably think I'm broke because I don't eat
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: expensive meals. I don't wear expensive clothes, I don't drive
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: an expensive car. I could, but I just yea Man's
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: what's the point?
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you know? Yeah, well you know what I will
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: say though, you know you may be a late bloomer
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: in that area. You know what I'm saying. You may
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: hang out with your golf buddies and say, watches the
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: treat myself.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: And that's the cars that they have.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Man, And that's so cool. Though. You know it's okay
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: to like show love to yourself. Skyler. I can't thank
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: you enough. We never shoot on Sundays, just so you know.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: You know you are special. You are very special. And
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I loved every bit of this interview. There's one hundred
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: percent inspiring. I'm hoping I can keep your number. I'm
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: gonna put off for sure. And then where can everybody
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: keep up with Skyler paycheck and also have the opportunity
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: to go into one of your franchise stores.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: Yeah, so for sure, if you are ever in the
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: Dallas Fort Worth metric, please hit me up, shoot me
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: a DM on ig TikTok wherever pull up. I give
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: you the address and the addresses of all of them
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: is on my ig by the way my ig is
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: I M Skylar B I A M s K y
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: l E r B not a E and then all
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: my other platforms, TikTok, YouTube, all of that is Skyler, paycheck,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: s K y l E r P A y c
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: h e c K.
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: And then just a last I can see a lot
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: of people watching this interview saying like, is there a
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: chance to get Skylar to mentor me? What's there to
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: come in regards to your mentorship. I know you're starting
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: to push out more content promoting that everyone can do this,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: but is there a plan or is there a way?
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Do people just DM you? How does that hold?
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: So I definitely get a lot of d ms about
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: mentorship this and that. That kind of goes back to
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: what you were saying about who's really serious and who's not,
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: you know, But I do get a lot of that,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: And I'm still learning, you know, I'm still learning how
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: to where do I put my time? Like how do
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: I talk to this group of individuals? How do I
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: do this? How do I do that? So I'm still
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: learning on the curve, you know what I mean. I
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: spent so much time with my head down and I'm
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: kind of playing ketchup on this on this end of things,
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: you know, so, but I'm open. So if you have
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: any advice or anything you want to tell me, please
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: let me know. I love to learn. I'm a host.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: I love to learn. I feel like we'll be learning
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: from each other. And then are you going to start
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: doing speaking engagements you think? Are you? Have you considered it?
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: Or is this like what no?
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: I would love to I've done a few here and there,
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: but again, I'm kind of learning that in so I
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: just I don't know. I guess I need to talk
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: to the right people to be able to do that
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: or you know, but I'm I would love to learn.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: It's just about doing it.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: And then how far off are you or like, what's
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: your timeline to get to that twenty five?
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: I think it all depends. It depends on which I
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: want to go. Do I want to keep cause like
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: last year two thousands before I opened up two stores,
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: so that was a new goal for me. That was
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: a new milestone for me. So I don't know if
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: maybe next year open three when I open one this year,
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: or I can go to route where I'm trying to
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: acquire a few that are already existing, or do I
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: want to hop in a financial group and do it
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: as a group. There's so many things that I'm thinking
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: of of which way I want to go, and.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: Would you be open to would you be open to
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: another franchise outside of Smoothie King.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I thought about it. You know, it just has to
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: make sense for me. But no, I'm definitely not against it.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: It's just about finding which one works for me. And yeah,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: so yeah, no, I'm definitely open for that as well.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: And then what's your favorite smoothie? These are just randoms.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm no, No, You're good.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: You're good. So I usually do the Collagen Pineapple kl
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: so and I put a little ginger and mangos in there.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: So it's going to have pineapples, it's going to have spinach,
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: it's going to have kal it's going to have the Banngo.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: So it's a nice Yeah, it's a really good movie.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: And another one I'll usually get because I get to
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: every time I'm at any store in the morning time.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I'm going to get that for my breakfast and then
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: when I leave for like lunch, I'm going to do
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: a peanut Power and that's more like a chocolate peanut
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: butter kind.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Of smooth, but can you take a lot of can
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: you taste a lot of the peanut butter?
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: You know, people are interesting about peanut butter.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Some people a peanut butter.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: Some people will say a little, some people say a lot.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: I think it just boils down to taste buds, like bananas.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Some people, if it's just a little banana, could be
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: about that big and they'll be like it's too much banana,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: and some people get extra. So I think it just
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: goes down to taste buds everyone has.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: And are you using those and meal replacements because you say.
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, okay, replacements. So so that's the I
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: guess the perk of smoothie king. I get free smoothies,
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: you know, and I'm making money while doing it.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well, thank you for tuning in, Just
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: so you know, a sidebar note, Well, you know what,
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: thank you guys for tuning in. We really appreciate you
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: guys listening. Check out Skylar paycheck on all social media platforms.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: Thank you for this dish, oh for sure. Peace out, guys,
