Latest / Mental Per4mance Daily with Adam Rutz / Change The Strategy, Not The Standard

- Adam Rutz: One of the biggest mistakes people make when things aren't going their way is confusing their strategy with their standard. And there's a significant difference between the two. Your standard is what you're committed to. Your strategy is how you're going to get there. Think about a basketball team going into halftime. They're down 15 points, shots aren't falling, they're getting beat defensively, and the game plan clearly is not working. Does a great coach walk into that locker room and tell their team, well, I guess we're just not good enough today. Absolutely not. They make adjustments. Maybe they switch from a man-to-man defense to a zone. Maybe they change their offensive approach and attack the basket instead of settling for outside shots. Or maybe they adjust their matchups. But what doesn't change is the standard, the expectation to compete, execute, and find a way to win the basketball game. And that's exactly how you need to approach your own life. Too many people confuse commitment with stubbornness. They think being disciplined means continuing to do the same thing over and over and over and over again, even when the evidence tells them this is not working. But that's not discipline, that's just refusing to adapt. So whether you're building a business, developing a skill, or chasing a personal goal, you're going to encounter situations where your original plan doesn't produce the results you expected. And when that happens, You have a decision to make. You can lower your expectations to match your current results, or you can improve your approach to match your expectations. Here's what I want you to think about today. Where in your life are you continuing to use a strategy that simply is not working? Take an honest look at the results. Identify what needs to change, make an adjustment, then get back to work. Because the best competitors aren't necessarily the ones with the perfect. Plan, they're the ones who recognize what's not working, adapt quickly, and continue pursuing excellence without compromising their standards. Be flexible with your methods, but be relentless with your standards. Mindset, process, discipline, execution, that's mental performance daily.
