Every year, seventeen kids drown in Washington — and this summer’s already brought heartbreak. But one teen, Mudra Machewad, is turning the tide. After witnessing two drownings at Lake Sammamish and a near-disaster involving her own family, she founded LakeSafe, a youth-led nonprofit tackling preventable drownings.
