- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Don't tell them.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to the very first episode of No Dribble.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I am comedian and writer Carolyn Swindell, and full disclosure,
- 0:27Speaker 2: I sit on the shorter end of the average height
- 0:29Speaker 2: spectrum even for a wing defense. I'm a little on
- 0:32Speaker 2: the short side. That doesn't matter to my fellow No
- 0:34Speaker 2: Dribble hosts two absolute legends of the game of netball,
- 0:38Speaker 2: two women who were the Yin and the Yang of
- 0:39Speaker 2: the Diamonds for many years. A shooter who has scored
- 0:42Speaker 2: more than two thousand goals for Australia and a defender
- 0:45Speaker 2: who has struck fear into the hearts of many a
- 0:47Speaker 2: shooter over her fourteen year professional career. They both captain
- 0:50Speaker 2: the Australian Diamonds. They've got World Cup, Super Netbaar premierships
- 0:53Speaker 2: between them and they're here to shoot the breeze. But
- 0:55Speaker 2: No Dribble Hello cath Cox and Hello Liz Ellis.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Hello.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I was so exciting though given like game day vibes again,
- 1:03Speaker 1: I even had to pop out and do a nervous weed.
- 1:05Speaker 4: Before Oh, Carol Twindella, I want you for my permanent
- 1:09Speaker 4: hype girl. Can you just follow me around and say stuff?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Please?
- 1:12Speaker 5: Absolutely, I'll bring pom poms, yeah, you name it.
- 1:15Speaker 4: I need that. Actually this morning I need deoda and
- 1:18Speaker 4: a shower. So I was all excited about our first episode,
- 1:21Speaker 4: and I thought, right, I'll get off and I'll have
- 1:24Speaker 4: a shower and make myself look nice because you know
- 1:26Speaker 4: there's you know, I just want to impress you two
- 1:29Speaker 4: and everybody else. Anyway, my husband says to me, can
- 1:32Speaker 4: you help me move some cows this morning, please? Because
- 1:34Speaker 4: we've got cows on a few different profits.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Do we need to establish that you live on a
- 1:37Speaker 1: farm otherwise that.
- 1:40Speaker 4: We're not sitting in suburbia? And he says, we don't
- 1:43Speaker 4: want to move some cows, and it means something different.
- 1:51Speaker 4: It's not a euphemism for anything other than do you
- 1:53Speaker 4: want to move cous So I'm like, okay, cool, we
- 1:55Speaker 4: got adding cows on one farm and I think there's
- 1:58Speaker 4: about nine of their car.
- 2:00Speaker 5: This sounds like a really shit mass question, doesn't.
- 2:02Speaker 4: It It is? But any who, well, here's the question
- 2:05Speaker 4: for you. If you try to move eighteen cows, one
- 2:08Speaker 4: of whom's just given birth and her hepo is two
- 2:11Speaker 4: days old, and try and move them, and you get
- 2:14Speaker 4: to you move seventeen down the road, and then there's
- 2:16Speaker 4: one cow and then seven calves who forgot to go
- 2:19Speaker 4: with their mothers. What does that do? The answer is
- 2:21Speaker 4: it blows out your bloody morning. So I stink. I'm
- 2:24Speaker 4: covered in cobwebs, and I'm covered in farmer's friends and
- 2:27Speaker 4: I don't quite know how I didn't get bitten by
- 2:29Speaker 4: snake running through all these great.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Pat question though, more ely, have we got the babies
- 2:33Speaker 1: back to their mothers.
- 2:34Speaker 4: We've got all but one, oh so one that ran
- 2:37Speaker 4: the wrong way. No, and it was the biggest and
- 2:40Speaker 4: most healthiest one. So it decided it wanted to go
- 2:43Speaker 4: back to the place at last saw its mother. And
- 2:45Speaker 4: it's currently in a paddic by itself. But I just
- 2:47Speaker 4: said to Matthew, I've got to get back. I've got
- 2:49Speaker 4: to do no dribble. And here I am dribbling on
- 2:52Speaker 4: about my morning and the fact that I stink, and
- 2:54Speaker 4: thank god this is not a smelly smelling podcast.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So but you're here with us now, and I am
- 3:01Speaker 2: halm enough to tell us about last week's exciting years.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Before I do. I actually reckon that we should explain
- 3:08Speaker 4: what this podcast is about. Think of it as your
- 3:11Speaker 4: netball adjacent podcast, right, So yeah, we'll talk about Neddie,
- 3:15Speaker 4: but we'll also chat about things from our lives as well,
- 3:18Speaker 4: like I don't know menopause, the odd story from the toolbus, COSSI,
- 3:23Speaker 4: and obviously cow wrangling.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Can I start with saying, Elizabeth, I mean, you'll obviously
- 3:28Speaker 1: tell us what it is, but the announcement, obviously everyone
- 3:32Speaker 1: will be across pretty much now, has been one of
- 3:35Speaker 1: the most exciting things for our sport because I appreciate
- 3:38Speaker 1: these people on the board that are appointed that are
- 3:41Speaker 1: incredibly capable people. They've got incredible knowledge they bring they
- 3:45Speaker 1: can do the job standing on the head, but we
- 3:47Speaker 1: don't know those people. So as a sport, when somebody
- 3:51Speaker 1: like you gets appointed to a position like that, I
- 3:54Speaker 1: think everybody breathes a collective sigh of relief and that
- 3:57Speaker 1: we know our sports in great hands because you know
- 4:00Speaker 1: how it works, you're passionate about it, and it honestly
- 4:04Speaker 1: was the most exciting news i'd heard.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It is exciting, but we haven't actually said that news
- 4:08Speaker 2: is at the moment. So if there's anyone listening who
- 4:10Speaker 2: doesn't know Liz, tell us what happened last week?
- 4:12Speaker 4: All right, last week it was announced that I was
- 4:14Speaker 4: appointed to the board of Netball Australia.
- 4:19Speaker 1: So I was so excited I couldn't even keep it in.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I know what I told Catherine. You can't say anything
- 4:25Speaker 4: because I was actually on holidays when they told me
- 4:28Speaker 4: that they were going to appoint me, and I didn't
- 4:31Speaker 4: want to be like sitting at praiser Isla with no service,
- 4:34Speaker 4: not being able to I don't know, do interviews or
- 4:37Speaker 4: talk to people or anything like that. So we heard
- 4:39Speaker 4: it off a few days. So I did tell Catherine.
- 4:41Speaker 4: I gave her a bit of a heads up, so
- 4:42Speaker 4: it was looks super exciting. I'm nervous because I have
- 4:47Speaker 4: been getting a lot of reactions like yours, Catherine, and
- 4:50Speaker 4: I don't want people to think that I can come
- 4:51Speaker 4: in and like I'm not the messiah. I'm not going
- 4:53Speaker 4: to fix everything.
- 4:54Speaker 5: You're just a very naughty boy.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I'm a very naughty girl. But I've got to stop that, apparently,
- 4:59Speaker 4: or do it. I receive my own home anyway, so
- 5:02Speaker 4: I really want to sort of make it very clear
- 5:03Speaker 4: that I am simply.
- 5:04Speaker 3: One of night.
- 5:04Speaker 4: I'm, you know, play a team sport. Netball the ultimate
- 5:08Speaker 4: team sport, so I'm one of nine. But I think
- 5:10Speaker 4: I bring something a little bit different to the board.
- 5:12Speaker 4: And having shared the State of the Game review back
- 5:15Speaker 4: in twenty twenty, and I was living with Catherine actually
- 5:17Speaker 4: for most of that period, so she saw how many
- 5:19Speaker 4: hours I was on meetings, glued to the computer. So
- 5:23Speaker 4: I've got to I feel like I've got a good
- 5:25Speaker 4: handle on the bones of the sport as a business.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I've got a good handle on I guess the pathways.
- 5:31Speaker 4: I have sat at that commentary level. I coach grassroots,
- 5:35Speaker 4: so I see what it's like, you know, every single
- 5:39Speaker 4: week from a grassroots point of view. I see what
- 5:41Speaker 4: you know, our local association's trying to do. My daughter
- 5:43Speaker 4: plays rep so I see the start of that talent pathway.
- 5:46Speaker 4: So I feel I've got I've got a really good
- 5:48Speaker 4: vertical understanding of the sport. But then also the business
- 5:51Speaker 4: of the sport. You know, I've got a background in broadcast.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I've spent time on the Train Sports Commission, so I
- 5:56Speaker 4: understand government. So hopefully I can bring all that to
- 5:59Speaker 4: be in this role and I feel like we've been
- 6:03Speaker 4: through such like you never waste a crisis, right, So
- 6:05Speaker 4: the last twelve months have been crisis after crisis, but
- 6:07Speaker 4: it gives us the opportunity to really spend a bit
- 6:09Speaker 4: of time as a board sort of really setting an
- 6:13Speaker 4: exciting path forward. And that's what I'm pumped about. I
- 6:15Speaker 4: think we've probably lost our way a little bit as
- 6:18Speaker 4: the leading voice for women in sport, or lead the
- 6:21Speaker 4: leading sport for Australian women, right because you know, the
- 6:23Speaker 4: women's cricket team have come along and they're you know,
- 6:27Speaker 4: they're hitting it out of the ballpark what I did there?
- 6:29Speaker 4: And you know the Matildas are here and they're kicking goals.
- 6:31Speaker 4: I should not be the comedian on this podcast. But
- 6:34Speaker 4: you know, there's a lot of competition now for the
- 6:36Speaker 4: hearts and minds of sports fans, particularly people who want
- 6:39Speaker 4: to watch women play sport, and then that has churned
- 6:42Speaker 4: also into a real competition for grassroots participants. Every other
- 6:47Speaker 4: sport is looking at our numbers and wanting a piece
- 6:49Speaker 4: of that action. So that crisis that we've had in
- 6:51Speaker 4: the last twelve to eight eight months I think can
- 6:53Speaker 4: be turned around into really positive work to really set
- 6:56Speaker 4: the sport as the leader for women in Australian.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Sport QUESTIONALI Isabelle as for all of us in trouble.
- 7:03Speaker 1: What does that look like then? From now?
- 7:05Speaker 4: What's the commitment When the commitment's already started. You know,
- 7:09Speaker 4: we're starting to get a head around the CEO role.
- 7:11Speaker 4: There's I think monthly meetings. I'm still trying to sort
- 7:14Speaker 4: of go over some old meeting notes and agendas so
- 7:18Speaker 4: I understand what the board is considered in the past.
- 7:20Speaker 4: At the moment, for me, it's really about meeting the
- 7:22Speaker 4: other board members. Obviously I know Money and Gerard because
- 7:25Speaker 4: her and I hope with teammates, and I've had a
- 7:28Speaker 4: little bit to do with a couple of the other
- 7:29Speaker 4: board members. But it's meeting them sort of sizing up
- 7:32Speaker 4: what they think and where they think the sport needs
- 7:35Speaker 4: to go. And it's also those relationships with broadcasts, with sponsors,
- 7:39Speaker 4: with member organizations, and it's also understanding where the rest
- 7:42Speaker 4: of the system think the sport can go. So I think,
- 7:45Speaker 4: to answer your question, it looks like a hell of
- 7:47Speaker 4: a lot of work over the next few months, but
- 7:49Speaker 4: I'm sort of confident that I've got a little bit
- 7:51Speaker 4: of a head start given my background, and put my
- 7:53Speaker 4: head down and my bum up. And if I look
- 7:55Speaker 4: really dazed in the next few sort of podcasts that
- 7:57Speaker 4: we do, there's a reason and right, because my head
- 8:00Speaker 4: will be full of all different things.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Well, can you leave the cows alone for a while?
- 8:04Speaker 2: You prioritize your energy for us? Can I This may
- 8:08Speaker 2: seem a rude question, but I'm going to ask it anyway.
- 8:10Speaker 5: This is an unpaid session.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Yeah, well we get an honor areum. I think it's
- 8:14Speaker 4: a couple of thousand bucks a year, which right, as
- 8:16Speaker 4: you know, I have expensive tastes, so.
- 8:20Speaker 2: But it is amazing to me that you know the
- 8:23Speaker 2: quality of people who will put their hands up for
- 8:26Speaker 2: these volunteer positions in boards for a lot of sports
- 8:29Speaker 2: around the country.
- 8:29Speaker 5: And I think it's amazing, and you know.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Yeah, but you know I'm doing it.
- 8:33Speaker 3: You do.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'll take the pressure off you though. Sorry, I did
- 8:36Speaker 1: put a lot. You've already got some coming from other
- 8:39Speaker 1: people as well. Just do you.
- 8:41Speaker 4: I will do my best, that's all we ask. And
- 8:43Speaker 4: I think everyone understands that my best involve is working
- 8:46Speaker 4: as hard as I possibly can to really make sure
- 8:50Speaker 4: that our sport gets to where it should be, both
- 8:52Speaker 4: in terms of its commercial growth, super netbaw grassroots, Like,
- 8:57Speaker 4: I'm so passionate about it. I'm so ready to get
- 9:00Speaker 4: in and make a difference. Yeah, it's exciting. I'm nervous.
- 9:04Speaker 4: I'm nervous. But I think if I had a boss once,
- 9:06Speaker 4: he said, if you're not nervous, you're not doing it properly,
- 9:08Speaker 4: like you should be nervous when you take on something
- 9:10Speaker 4: like this. Well, cheers to you. Lizzielis, Yeah, we're excitings team.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and we're here, very exciting news here if you need.
- 9:22Speaker 3: So.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Dribbler's one thing you don't know is that there is
- 9:24Speaker 2: a long running debate between Liz and Kath and I
- 9:26Speaker 2: about who is the biggest fan of Suncorp Supernetwle, particularly
- 9:29Speaker 2: the Swifts, and I believe it is me because although
- 9:32Speaker 2: I have never played for the Swifts or haven't really
- 9:35Speaker 2: played for many teams since I was twelve, but I
- 9:38Speaker 2: think I'm the biggest fan because I'm the only one
- 9:40Speaker 2: who's actually paid money to go and see the Swifts,
- 9:42Speaker 2: and I do that consistently, and I love it and
- 9:45Speaker 2: it's a wonderful game. But I had some really interesting
- 9:47Speaker 2: experiences at the first Swift's home game, and I think
- 9:49Speaker 2: it's very It's great to be able to just sit
- 9:52Speaker 2: there and watch it. I'm loving at first of all, Liz,
- 9:55Speaker 2: you know, credit to you volunteering for the game, but
- 9:57Speaker 2: all of those volunteers who are out there with the
- 10:00Speaker 2: but the swiffers. So the girls go down on court,
- 10:02Speaker 2: there's a bit of sweat on court that's dangerous. Obviously,
- 10:05Speaker 2: the volunteer comes out with the little mop thing. I mean,
- 10:07Speaker 2: I don't know what I used to use. One that
- 10:09Speaker 2: was called AFO, Yeah, Sabco, right, yeah, yeah, but that
- 10:13Speaker 2: this might be another thrown back to the early two thousands,
- 10:16Speaker 2: but there was a brand called the Swiffer which was
- 10:18Speaker 2: exactly the same product as far as I can see.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And to me, that is a match made in heaven
- 10:22Speaker 2: for a sponsorship for the new Southwest Swifts.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Don't know, I'm allersure to cleaning.
- 10:26Speaker 2: But I'd like to see just the blokes doing the mops.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I think it's a better message for the young women
- 10:30Speaker 2: in the audience there. And then the halftime entertainment. We've
- 10:35Speaker 2: got these young gymnasts who come out there. They're doing
- 10:38Speaker 2: a great job, but it's hard we get us to
- 10:41Speaker 2: applaud them when they haven't done anything yet. So they
- 10:44Speaker 2: come out and everyone clapping along and we're all sort
- 10:46Speaker 2: of trying, but it's like, you know, we're having a break.
- 10:48Speaker 5: We've been cheering our team and.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Whatever, and then these guys start doing some fabulous, amazing
- 10:53Speaker 2: feats of strength and gymnastics, and the MAVs come back
- 10:56Speaker 2: on court and clearly they've been told you can have
- 10:59Speaker 2: that FOD to warm up in.
- 11:00Speaker 5: They give zero shits about what's going.
- 11:02Speaker 2: On, but at the halftime entertainment, they are focused on
- 11:05Speaker 2: warming up and getting back into the game, and it's
- 11:07Speaker 2: just it's very entertaining to not have a job at
- 11:10Speaker 2: a game of professional game of their form.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I wouldn't know what that's like. I did love the
- 11:16Speaker 1: photo that you sent me after the game. It was
- 11:18Speaker 1: you doing a selfie with a glass of wine in
- 11:21Speaker 1: your hand. I can and me in the far far
- 11:23Speaker 1: background working. So there are some people having fun at that.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Ball, but I do I have a parenting dilemma on that.
- 11:28Speaker 2: So I took my daughter, who is ten, and her
- 11:30Speaker 2: friend and my husband and I were much more into
- 11:32Speaker 2: the game than they were, and this is like going
- 11:34Speaker 2: to these games is great for the girls to exercise
- 11:36Speaker 2: a little bit of independence.
- 11:37Speaker 5: They can go out.
- 11:38Speaker 2: They go and get themselves a snack, they come back.
- 11:39Speaker 2: It's like, look, this is an enclosed environment. I feel
- 11:42Speaker 2: fairly safe for you. Go away, come, come straight back
- 11:44Speaker 2: or whatever. But I'd really like, and I understand that
- 11:48Speaker 2: this is fraught with difficulty from a public policy perspective,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I'd really like to be able to send my daughter
- 11:52Speaker 2: to the bar with a note saying, give my daughter
- 11:54Speaker 2: another gin so I don't have to leave the game.
- 11:57Speaker 5: I promise it's for me.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Second that, except again, I don't get to experience any
- 12:03Speaker 1: of that. How coulds all the outside activation stuff you
- 12:05Speaker 1: go there early and get amongst all of that.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Well, didn't go early enough this time. I listen. Brianie
- 12:10Speaker 5: Ankle said, the game doesn't start at four o'clock.
- 12:12Speaker 2: It starts half an hour earlier when we start warming up,
- 12:14Speaker 2: and we want you all there so you know, like
- 12:16Speaker 2: I go follow her into battle. We were there on
- 12:19Speaker 2: time for that, but we were there half an hour
- 12:21Speaker 2: before that, and the girls wanted to get in the haircue.
- 12:23Speaker 5: It's like, you're going to be here for an hour
- 12:24Speaker 5: and a half and.
- 12:25Speaker 2: So yeah, you got to get there early because everybody
- 12:28Speaker 2: is getting amongst it. And it was just one of
- 12:30Speaker 2: those beautiful days. So I lay on the fake grass
- 12:33Speaker 2: drinking my can of gin, thinking life's pretty good.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Yeah, and then you've got a game and netball thrown
- 12:38Speaker 4: in as a bonut, so good? Do you know? I
- 12:40Speaker 4: did read somewhere that there is moves of foot. I
- 12:43Speaker 4: don't know where it is, like somewhere around the world
- 12:45Speaker 4: that drinks and food will start to be delivered to
- 12:48Speaker 4: sporting patrons by drone. So you can send God a
- 12:51Speaker 4: little message and you get your stuff delivered by a drone.
- 12:53Speaker 4: How cool would that be in an indoor venue.
- 12:56Speaker 2: That's I don't want that waffle pop being hoverty and
- 13:00Speaker 2: dropping in my lap and it's up for the girl
- 13:02Speaker 2: behind me.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Then it just needs a little dump truck on the
- 13:05Speaker 1: back of it. You just open your mouth and it
- 13:06Speaker 1: shoots straight down while it's hovering above your head, and
- 13:09Speaker 1: then we don't have to do anything.
- 13:10Speaker 4: But the problem is that everyone knows how much you drink.
- 13:13Speaker 4: When they're like, they'd be like, oh, that lady's getting
- 13:15Speaker 4: another G and T delivered, No wonder she's cheering?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Are you just are you laughing because you're having the
- 13:29Speaker 1: same flashback as meals. We're just talking about halftime entertainment.
- 13:33Speaker 1: So I think for forever, as long as entertainment's mentioned
- 13:38Speaker 1: with the netball game in it, this is going to
- 13:40Speaker 1: come to mind. We're in South Africa. This is I
- 13:43Speaker 1: don't know what fifteen years ago, twenty years ago, it
- 13:46Speaker 1: was it?
- 13:46Speaker 4: Do you know what?
- 13:47Speaker 3: It was?
- 13:47Speaker 4: Early two thousands when we first toured there was it?
- 13:49Speaker 4: It might have been two thousand, yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But they have obviously before any test match they played
- 13:54Speaker 1: the national anthems of both countries. So this particular day
- 13:57Speaker 1: we rock up, our tape doesn't work. It was at
- 13:59Speaker 1: tape then people there's probably a lot of kids listening
- 14:01Speaker 1: to no idea.
- 14:03Speaker 4: What Yeah, it's like the little thing and there's a
- 14:05Speaker 4: ribbon that goes around and around and it plays a music.
- 14:08Speaker 1: They know what it tape is, Google it anyway, So
- 14:12Speaker 1: ours wasn't working. So next minute our manager suggests that
- 14:16Speaker 1: a big good idea if we all stand in a
- 14:18Speaker 1: half circle and have Janine Ilic, who is one of
- 14:22Speaker 1: our better singers, in the front, and will sing the
- 14:25Speaker 1: anthem kill Me Now is exactly what I was thinking.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So we all did that? Did you actually sing it?
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't enough, I ask you my mind.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I love a bit of singing outlaud I've got the
- 14:35Speaker 4: world's worst voice, but I love a bit of singing outland.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Thank god for Janine though, because if it hadn't been
- 14:39Speaker 4: the microphone hadn't been on any other of us, we're appalling,
- 14:42Speaker 4: Like there's a reason were passing catch?
- 14:44Speaker 5: So what does that do? From a sort of mental perspective.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Work game of my life is what it does. I
- 14:49Speaker 1: was so humiliated.
- 14:53Speaker 2: But we want you to go out and do what
- 14:54Speaker 2: you're best at, but first we want you to go
- 14:56Speaker 2: out and do something that makes you want to crawl
- 14:59Speaker 2: out of your skin.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Well, Janine loved it though, Like she's a singer, she's
- 15:03Speaker 4: got a great voice. Her and Shelly O'Donnell the two best.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I would love that opportunity, but I can totally see
- 15:08Speaker 2: why it is.
- 15:09Speaker 5: It is cringe worthy.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Can you imagine that being in Like you know that
- 15:12Speaker 4: the selectors always have this matrix of what they're trying
- 15:15Speaker 4: to achieve with the team.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Trix is seeing the National Emergency Skills required.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Because we always talk about the what ifs when we
- 15:25Speaker 1: go on tour, So what if the bus breaks down
- 15:27Speaker 1: on the way to the venue, what if you don't
- 15:29Speaker 1: get your full warm up? You know, all this sort
- 15:30Speaker 1: of things, So you go in planned. No, I don't
- 15:33Speaker 1: think we'd ever discuss what if the tape doesn't work
- 15:35Speaker 1: and you have to stand there and sing the anthem?
- 15:37Speaker 1: If we ticked it off and hopefully it's never going
- 15:41Speaker 1: to happen again.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Did you have to do both verses?
- 15:43Speaker 1: No? But we also had a manager that was so
- 15:47Speaker 1: so strict about us knowing both because sometimes when you're
- 15:50Speaker 1: again in a random country, they will play the second
- 15:53Speaker 1: And she said, there's nothing.
- 15:54Speaker 2: To be beneath your radiance. Guys, that's right. See you
- 15:57Speaker 2: know it, Liz, Do you know it?
- 15:59Speaker 4: Yeah? I do, but I let it. I had to
- 16:00Speaker 4: learn it the hard way. Well, after having a bad experience.
- 16:02Speaker 4: I went to a school once and I was up
- 16:04Speaker 4: the front of a special guest and so we all
- 16:06Speaker 4: sing the national anthe and I was singing the way
- 16:08Speaker 4: and the kids all start singing the second verse and
- 16:10Speaker 4: they're all looking at me, and I'm like, I went
- 16:16Speaker 4: away and learned the second verse so I'd never get
- 16:18Speaker 4: caught out by kids.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And it hasn't happened again since, has it?
- 16:21Speaker 4: No, So, dribblers, I had the most bizarre thing happened
- 16:28Speaker 4: to me this week. This time last year, I was
- 16:31Speaker 4: in the jungle. As you know, I'm not the Queen
- 16:33Speaker 4: of the Jungle anymore, but I was in the jungle
- 16:35Speaker 4: in Africa. And when we oh, thanks, so there you go, Catherine,
- 16:43Speaker 4: she's put my ties and then she just stuck.
- 16:45Speaker 5: Out Diana's thing. I'll never be queen, but I would
- 16:48Speaker 5: like to be the queen of people's hearts. That's you, now, Liz.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Yeah, God, that's a stretch.
- 16:57Speaker 4: She didn't get into the media and look like you know,
- 16:59Speaker 4: she'd been chasing cows all morning, which is exactly what
- 17:01Speaker 4: I have. But so last year we'd just just before
- 17:04Speaker 4: we went into the jungle, it was my little boy's birthday,
- 17:08Speaker 4: and I thought, right, while I'm in the jungle, it'll
- 17:10Speaker 4: be his birthday. So I'm going to buy a card
- 17:12Speaker 4: to send to him. And I bought a card on
- 17:15Speaker 4: the way on the planet, like at the airport on
- 17:16Speaker 4: the way over. Write it out, dear Roson, Happy birthdays
- 17:20Speaker 4: number seven. And when I was going from Johannaesburg Airport
- 17:25Speaker 4: to Herdspirit I said to my chaperone, can I please
- 17:28Speaker 4: just go duck into this post office? And she was like, oh,
- 17:31Speaker 4: you can. What do you need to do? So I
- 17:32Speaker 4: need to post this card to my little boy, and
- 17:35Speaker 4: she said, oh, the South African postal system isn't very good.
- 17:38Speaker 4: It might take a while. I said, that's okay. It's
- 17:40Speaker 4: not his birthday for like three weeks, so that's perfect.
- 17:42Speaker 4: So it takes a little bit of time, it'll be great.
- 17:45Speaker 4: So I said it off and didn't think anything about it.
- 17:48Speaker 4: And then, you know, after not seeing them for months,
- 17:50Speaker 4: I got home and we sort of all got on
- 17:52Speaker 4: with our lives and I totally forgot about it. Anyway,
- 17:54Speaker 4: this year, on his eighth birthday, I was away that night.
- 18:00Speaker 4: I was there in the morning, and I was away
- 18:01Speaker 4: that night working.
- 18:02Speaker 5: It's a pattern here.
- 18:03Speaker 4: Yeah, no, don't tell my children. And I got home
- 18:06Speaker 4: the next day and he comes up to me. He goes, Mummy,
- 18:09Speaker 4: why did you buy me a card for my seventh birthday?
- 18:11Speaker 4: Don't you know eight? I couldn't figure out like it.
- 18:17Speaker 4: I was like, what do you what do you mean?
- 18:19Speaker 4: I know it's your eighth birthday. He was like, you
- 18:21Speaker 4: think it's my seventh birthday, and obviously I hadn't been
- 18:24Speaker 4: there for his birthday night, and so this is like
- 18:25Speaker 4: all cascading. He thinks that I think he's seven and
- 18:28Speaker 4: not eight. I was like, I couldn't get to the
- 18:30Speaker 4: bottom of it.
- 18:31Speaker 3: I said, what do you mean?
- 18:32Speaker 4: So he ran and got brings out this tatty envelope
- 18:35Speaker 4: with a card and pulls it out and it's got
- 18:38Speaker 4: seven And I read it and I was like, when
- 18:41Speaker 4: did this come? He said it came yesterday and he
- 18:44Speaker 4: had fail and it came on his eighth birthday. How
- 18:50Speaker 4: amazing is that? So the South African Postal Service they
- 18:54Speaker 4: must have known.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Three weeks was enough time.
- 18:58Speaker 4: But what an amazing coincidence, right? And then look at
- 19:00Speaker 4: the envelope and the end has been slashed and then
- 19:02Speaker 4: stuck back up again. So I think they did check
- 19:04Speaker 4: to see if there was any cash in it.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, had they noted come from you, Liz, though, they
- 19:08Speaker 1: wouldn't have bothered. It's not like you're going to put
- 19:10Speaker 1: cash in anything, all.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Right, dribblers. This segment is called wind Beneath My Wings,
- 19:17Speaker 4: and you can sing it.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Must have been cold there in my shadow. It is
- 19:21Speaker 2: fucking cold in your shadows. You two cast very long shadows.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Okay, Dribbler.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Is something that we want to do is start to
- 19:27Speaker 2: acknowledge the legends of our game, the unsung heroes who
- 19:31Speaker 2: are out there every Saturday morning getting things set up
- 19:33Speaker 2: for our players.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yeah, this is very dear to our hearts, isn't it,
- 19:36Speaker 1: Because it's about all the people that make the game ticket,
- 19:39Speaker 1: that grassroots level, and all the other volunteers. To be honest,
- 19:42Speaker 1: there's so many of them that keep our sport alive.
- 19:44Speaker 1: So if you want to give them a shout out,
- 19:46Speaker 1: jump on our social media Instagram. It's no underscore dribble,
- 19:49Speaker 1: underscore podcasts, and let us know who they are so
- 19:52Speaker 1: we can give them some love.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Are we going to give them something else? Though?
- 19:55Speaker 1: What should we come up with to give them?
- 19:57Speaker 4: Cash in a card, Cash.
- 19:58Speaker 1: In a card, Liz, send it to you.
- 20:02Speaker 4: I'll go to South Africa and sometime in twenty twenty six.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Let's put a pin in that we do need to
- 20:09Speaker 2: send something other than just our love to these people
- 20:11Speaker 2: who are the wind beneath our wings.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I'd say spend wine, but we'd give that job to
- 20:16Speaker 4: Catherine and that wouldn't get there either.
- 20:18Speaker 3: No.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not the safety one in between. To make
- 20:20Speaker 1: sure that gets.
- 20:21Speaker 2: A leave that with us dribblers, we're going to come
- 20:24Speaker 2: up with something. So if you are nominated for wind
- 20:25Speaker 2: Beneath our Wings, be rest assured you will receive something
- 20:29Speaker 2: of fairly limited value but high rarity from us at
- 20:34Speaker 2: some stage. And I have a nomination here for this
- 20:36Speaker 2: week's Wind Beneath our Wings and it comes from Amanda
- 20:40Speaker 2: Spicer in the Orange Netball Association. She would like to
- 20:43Speaker 2: nominate Cassie White, who's the thirteen's rep team manager and
- 20:47Speaker 2: a member of the Orange Netball Association Forever in a day.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Amanda says, she coached my girls in the Saturday comp
- 20:52Speaker 2: for the last four years, team undefeated for four years
- 20:55Speaker 2: in a row. All of her players have made either
- 20:57Speaker 2: the Orange webside or the development team. He goes above
- 21:00Speaker 2: and beyond, bringing this team tent to our Carnival's, spare dresses,
- 21:03Speaker 2: additional kids, water sacks, you name it. She is your
- 21:06Speaker 2: ultimate wing woman. So I think that sounds like someone
- 21:10Speaker 2: who deserves to be nominated for Win Beneath our Wings.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And so we would like to say, eat Cassie White,
- 21:15Speaker 2: we pay tribute to you. Thank you for what you
- 21:17Speaker 2: do for the game, and we would like Dribblers for
- 21:19Speaker 2: you to nominate those legends of the game who are
- 21:22Speaker 2: helping you every week, helping you, helping your kids. Whatever
- 21:25Speaker 2: it is that they are doing for Netbull, they're doing
- 21:27Speaker 2: it without payment, They're doing it without thanks and many occasions.
- 21:30Speaker 2: So hit us up on our Instagram page, which again
- 21:32Speaker 2: is at no Underscore something Kat.

- 21:44Speaker 2: she is the closest.
- 21:45Speaker 5: We have to a millennial.
- 21:46Speaker 4: But also she hasn't been through menopause. She doesn't have
- 21:49Speaker 4: the memory loss yet, but it's coming at your sister.

- 22:19Speaker 5: Oh oh, I'm sorry if we call you miss Zellis.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Would you rather be more formal?
- 22:25Speaker 3: No?
- 22:25Speaker 4: Less formal?
- 22:27Speaker 1: No?
- 22:27Speaker 4: What Catherine calls me Elizabeth and I get nervous because
- 22:29Speaker 4: I only get Elizabeth when I'm in trouble. So when
- 22:31Speaker 4: she gives me the Elizabeth, I like, what have I done?
- 22:33Speaker 3: And I have?
- 22:33Speaker 4: The list is later?
- 22:34Speaker 5: Yeah you do?
- 22:35Speaker 1: That butt is sweating.
- 22:41Speaker 5: That's the metopause coming.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Does it start in your butt? Because that's all. Goodbye
- 22:48Speaker 4: from me on the north coast of New South Wales.
- 22:50Speaker 2: So that's Lizzellis, that's cath Cox, and I'm Carolyn Swendell.
- 22:54Speaker 5: This is no dribble. See you here next week.
