- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: He's so loyal to us.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like Trump, that's where it's going on.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, guys?
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: This is Mike Traut.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: And we're listening to Sports Park CEO.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's current.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Buff on hand.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: Man, the goal of the earliest episode ever recorded so far this morning with this.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_02]: We may break this record eventually, but we were up early this morning for you folks to get this episode in.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: We've got some busy days today, work wise, and everything else, and busy week.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_02]: don't want to leave you guys hanging with a huge week of first week of baseball.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_02]: Lots to talk about today, but man, got her coffee.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: Getting may start off a little bit slow, but when this Joe hits my veins, look for a headbutt coming to the strain if you can see his line.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_02]: If you can't, you'll just hear the, you'll just hear the.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: The thought you hear the thugs.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I say what man.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a morning guy by nature and I love a good morning routine Personally, and I'll I'll say this that the hardest thing for a morning routine is five kids and that's not an excuse But in stiner.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I understand Those are just excuses
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's a reality, my brother, but it's challenging, but I have gotten into it here to kick off in 26 year and I'm feeling good.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about last week, Bubba, starting the day off with some gratitude, starting the day off with some prayer, some meditation, getting the word, whatever the steam song will work out, whatever it is you do.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think that that's key.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to mention this.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: We've had a lot of our listeners continue to reach out to us, and they're saying not only thank you for the investment advice, thank you for the card talk.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: for the life advice.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know when you shared last weekend kind of that cure to anxiety, right?
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Is it what can I focus on or what cannot control, right?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right now.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: We had somebody reach out and just say, Hey, man, like I'm putting that into practice.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: It was a huge difference maker for me.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: My wife even said something about it that she noticed it.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and so I'm sitting here going like, Dude, this is awesome.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: We've got a community people, you know, people are driving with this.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: People are being, you know, helped by this and I just wanted to share that out loud.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: I say thank you to our listeners for continuing to be a part of what we're doing here.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: On that note, some of you guys have become more than just listeners have become friends and Adam Phillips wanted to give him a shout-out.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: Had done the impersonations, got home the other day from the weekend.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: He sent me my own Kevin McGonagall jersey here to kind of rain in the MLBCs.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: And so, just want to get a shout-out to him.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: How cool is that to come home and have something like that waiting on you.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: So Adam, dude, I appreciate it, man.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: It really dude.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, that is awesome.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: All I got were some cat headphones.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: I remember him.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: really got a second of the name is current boy, he sent me like six mullies, mullies, mullies, yeah mullies sent me six pairs of pat headphones, but you know jokes on you, mullies, I sold those jokers on eBay, I am cashed in on them.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to hang out with us.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: We've got to go dirty.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think we'll do something.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: As you should, as you should.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Bubba, let's kind of kick off our weeks.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, our normal roundtable discussion.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: You had another weekend of travel baseball, Philusson on the life of when Bubba Wilson.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's going to be a whole nother podcast, so that I start, I call the life of a traveling travel ball hobo father.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to be another podcast.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: We started on a side episode.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: But now just literally yesterday had a big day again starting on a Monday, after I was exhausted.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we had just a weekend, all three boys playing baseball, all three couldn't have been at the furthest points of Georgia for us to go to.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: Somehow we got it done, got home late Sunday night.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_02]: My youngest son lost in the championship, but we had a good weekend overall, it's good weekend for all the boys.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_02]: Was proud of my older son who I shunned on the show
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: And so he'll probably go back and listen to that episode one day, but came out on Saturday and went four for five after having a really bad over five start.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: I'm was really proud of him, you know, to come back in and just do the work we did this last week in the cage and just really mental mindset.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: And it's again, it's so different for a kid than these major leaders.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about here a little bit on slow start sometimes.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: But just a really, really busy week for me this last week.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: Got a busy week this week because we are, we're heading out town next week, which I honestly don't think I've ever looked forward to a trip more than this one.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: Just to get out of the pollen, I mean, I'm tired of sucking down gallons of yellow chowder every day for breakfast lunch and dinner here in Georgia.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: The pollen is ridiculous right now.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so looking forward to get to the beach, uh, that's a happy place for our family.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I, on another personal note, really excited about this.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: Um, Ham, I know I told you this, but I don't think you knew it happened yesterday.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: I closed on my lake house yesterday, uh, up at Lake Kiwi.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Lake Kiwi, South Carolina.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's another happy place for our family to place you've been looking to buy for quite some time and we've owned a property up there in the past, but we're looking to get back and
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: officially yesterday.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_02]: So excited about that.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: Just a place that we hope to go and enjoy.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe we'll do a little podcast episode one there one day there.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: But we know it's crazy.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about this super small world.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: My business partner on the insurance side has a place up there.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I got to find out where your places connected to his place.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: And so we'll have a, we'll have a ham Wilson family affair of get the whole wide together.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know,
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a lot as a lot of kids, man, we're going to love food eight children thrown around and that hope that you are going to buy from Connor Griffin, the yacht have a boat on the lake and we need to call it like KG or something like that.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: I told you, yeah, the boss
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't buy that.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't get the yacht quite yet.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but I've had a good run, but just to kind of wrap up my week.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: I guess really the main thing for me on the card front is I've really honed in now.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like over the last couple of years have been honing in, you know, how the way I look at buying cards and I feel like I'm as clear right now on what I'm buying and why I'm buying it as I ever have been.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not out here pretending like there's not risk as the season starts, I'm very honed in on who I have conviction on.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: Very honed in on what the values are of those.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm I'm very, when if I go into a card, I have an immediate escape plan on that card.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's the Matt Ham effect.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: It is rippled through into my core now.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: He's kind of like what he's done to Little Matt.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's done to me.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: But hey, I appreciate it to be honest, because it's made of always been good at being able to identify the players, but the part at sometimes was how to be able to move and in out of them.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'm very laser-focused right now realistically, there's probably 10 to 12 names that I look at most days.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then from here, I'm going to be watching Major League and Minor League Bosh Horse every single day.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, that's something that I do every single morning and usually every single night before I go to bed and so I'm going to continue to do that, but on the card front I am still buying a buying quite a bit where I can I am selling as well and the only thing that I regret right now and I told somebody this yesterday is that I didn't take more of my own advice on some of these names don't end up in the first week of the season.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: One name I did, and I'm not going to go into specifics about what I sold this card for, because for the sake of the guy that is buying the card, but I did buy the chase to water about a month ago, a chase to water super-fractor auto, which was a card I thought had tremendous upside from just kind of where his price point was to where the card was priced, was able to purchase that card and had a ton of interest.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_02]: I made it available publicly, and I actually did sell that card yesterday.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: which was obviously he's had tremendous start.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's looked like Baybrew here to kind of start the season.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: So that was a good move.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: But there's some of these other guys that wish I had double down on.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: There were some guys that we had kind of talked about.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of the names we've been talking about had hit.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if you look at this first kind of week or two, guys we keep talking about every single week, you look at JJ's walk-off.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: to kind of get it started.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: First it bad of his career hits a finger.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: Look at my got to go start.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: Look at KG and what he did.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: His first week in the miners, you know, Connor Griffin was like, Oh, his market's going to fall.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: He sucks.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: You know, yeah, he goes down to Triple A and he's dominating these guys.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: Like, so they're high schoolers.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: And then you just look at the other list of people we talked about last week.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about who did we think was going to have a good start in literally most of the names we discussed last week have had a pretty good start.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: And we're going to break down the kind of the who's hot, who's not of the CEOs here to kind of kick off the season.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: My question is, if you did your toe into the Babe Ruth pond yet, I mean, you got the lake house, but have you picked up any Ruth here?
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I want to know.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: No, you know, that's the next step.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: I did pick up the other night.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: I picked up two cards and I texted, I actually called Brent yesterday at the back of investor picked up my first 24 carat the other night from a fanatics auction, kind of a PC card.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: picked up the Larry Walker PSA 9 24 karat and I bought it because I was like it's just sitting there and it's just too cheap and for a PSA 9 and a 24 karat's hard to get and Larry Walker was just a guy in my I don't know about you when you were watching them but when I was a kid I mean Larry Walker was a dog I mean I do get just rake and so
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: There he was.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, you know, I'm gonna go ahead and pick this card up and I did.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I picked up a card that I've been searching for for a long time.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: Was that the Hank Aaron rookie and that's a that's a card that I've wanted for a long long time.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't have any or didn't have any rhyme or reason on this specific one.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, I just threw a bit in.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, you know, if I get it, I get it.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: And I threw it in like earlier.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's a PSA5, I would like to get like a PSA8, PSA9 on that card eventually, and I probably will, but just kind of like, I am going a little more of that now.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: I think on the PC side, I do want to dip my toe more into vintage.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_02]: I enjoy it.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's just a good, um, good, collectible thing to go through.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_02]: You mean you have some people over for, you know, already how cool is it to pull out a, your, your collection of cards that everybody is going to know and love.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: And so to me, that's that's something I am going to dip my toe more into the baby bruise.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: I did buy a Thai Cobb a while back and you know, that's something that I'm going to continue to do.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to pull the head.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm again.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Hamm is rubbing off on me.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm feeling sure about it this morning.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be honest.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm feeling so validated.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: This is more in public.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: If we're a person, if you're giving you a big old bare hug, man,
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, man, I want to go about some vintage, you know, sell some modern Boston vintage.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: Little Matt's going to listen this episode like you're boring, but anyway, it is, it's so good to hear, man, and it's, it's awesome.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I just love the, the camaraderie, the friendship that we've built, you know, over this, this time and current as well.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: We were on the phone with him yesterday, he was going to try to make it today, he's just got so much going on.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: But, um, you know, I want to just talk about the week as well.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think that we could write a book on the life and times of a travel sports father and, you know, it's just so interesting Friday night, but we'll map your high school baseball team JV team got throttle, but across town rival like 7 to 1 or something and the game ended it.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know 7 30.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: And we went down to a little, there's a little pizza shop and brewery around the corner, and it's like this open air space.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: And we had pizza with the family play little ping pong, crashed, got up the next morning, drove to Fayetteville, North Carolina, which is like two hours, with Matthew and the twins.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: They had games, four games, two each, at different locations.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: All day Saturday, my parents actually tag along another car to help out with the split, you know,
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: drove back home, 930 p.m. Saturday night, get up Saturday, excuse me, Sunday morning, my wife had Sunday duty, and she drove the boys up, I stayed home with the girls, and I'm looking at this and like, man, what a crazy busy time we're in right now.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, it's real.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: And then Monday, you know, to mean this back to work, you know, you got to step on on.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: You've got clients to call.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just this nonstop.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so as we kind of head into like Easter season, you know, this is Easter week, holy week, kind of in the Christian faith, you know, you got Passover this week as well.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm very mindful of my rest.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: right now and to make sure that in the midst of the busyness that you can be busy and be doing a lot of things but you can still be arrested in your mind and so that's really been my kind of like intentionality of like staying peaceful and rested in my mind despite all these things kind of like flying around me you know and I think that that serves you well not only in life but also like
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: When the world is literally on fire, we've got, you know, war's going on over here and you've got markets that are tanking, y'all's kind of stuff.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, can you stay rested in your mind and clear headed to be able to make your moves?
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: while there's a lot of panic and a lot of worry and stress and stuff going on.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, that's kind of like my thoughts if you will on the week.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: As far as a card front, I'm feeling a little bit like a lag right now.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, we had the Dallas low.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: And we've come back, we haven't really bought anything.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: We're not holding a ton of inventory right now.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: We've got some joint stuff right now, but we're waiting on some auctions.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: And so we're kind of in this holding pattern.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: to reallocate, you know, where we're going next, but like you, Baba, I love this idea of like quality centered vintage as the store value and as an opportunity to make, you know, decent turns on.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, that's kind of where my minds are with my mind is with with cars and so forth.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: But we want to we want to kick off the episode today and talk a little bit like this is just
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: who's not, and if we had the cool production team, we'd have the big graphics, who's not?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Who's not?
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we want to talk about today.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: First week of the Major League Baseball season, it was, you know, of course, the sweet 16, elite, eight, you know, batball games, a lot of energy around the sports arena here over the last week or so.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: But who really came out of the gate, Baba?
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll go back and forth.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: You'll give a hot, I'll give a hot, you'll give a hot, I'll give a hot, I'll give a hot,
- 15:05[SPEAKER_01]: and then we'll go over to the who's not and we'll talk a little bit about the performances who did you love the scene and opening week get out there and get the work done?
- 15:12[SPEAKER_02]: Well I don't know there's any doubt uh as mentioned earlier chased a loter uh and the way he started I mean first two games three games is career four home runs I mean that's pretty hard it's pretty hard to beat you know when I got sitting home runs the way he was to start
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm chased a lotter was red hot, and so, and with me being invested in him and a guy kind of stockpotted a little bit, I know we had even dipped our toe into chased a lotter with our joint stuff a little bit recently.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a cool story, too, for a guy again, I think a lot of these prospects who can fall out of favor, you know, really quickly, because of an injury or, oh man, they just were never going to be able to put it all together, and he's a quad A player, and
- 15:51[SPEAKER_02]: Chase a lot of proven.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think pretty quickly the Duke and hit.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: So that was a cool one for me.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think what talking about major league debuts and how invested we've been in prospects over the last few years, I cannot think of a major league debut.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I remember Jason Dominguez when he hit the home run off a curse shop, right?
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: You're like, holy cow dude, this is awesome.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then, of course, you know, JJ, we talked about it earlier, hitting the home run, his first at bat.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_01]: But seeing Kevin McGonagall come out in his Major League debut and, you know, four hits, four for five, first pitch, rakes a double down the line, RBI machine, you know, I was like, wow.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: for a guy for a kid 21 years old to step into the spotlight.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: And his first majorly game, the nerves have got to be, you know, unreal.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's so much that's been put into getting him to this moment.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: And my man capitalized, you know, and came out of the gate so strong.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: It made me so much more of a fan of mechanical.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: I was kind of distanced from a mechanical.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he wasn't on the podcast, you know, I didn't have the local connection, like we do with Walker, you know, or some of these other guys.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: We hadn't been huge into him.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: kind of got into him later.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: Man, it was like, dude, I love seeing this guy win.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: And so that was a huge who's hot, you know, kind of starting off the season for me.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, a mechanical the way he plays.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's so hard known as man.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I love the way the kid plays.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not to follow up with that one, with a JJ weather hole.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_02]: Just another guy we've been talking about for...
- 17:19[SPEAKER_02]: 18 months a guy who's a gamer a guy who last year felt recall when he was at the future's game I went and watched and play live and in person and just told you then I was like he stood out on that field Just the way he the ball came off the bat and for the way he started to you know game winners first career home Line.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I know he's not bad in five hundred right now, but he's I mean even last night I think he went over to but
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: Baton lead off of the cardinals.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_02]: He went over to a two walk two run scored.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: He's just he's going to be a gamer on that team.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: He's stepped in and he's a major league baseball ready right now again.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to say
- 17:55[SPEAKER_02]: unless Connor gets called up and which very well could happen by the way.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_02]: He could get I'm hearing yesterday I was watching that pirate's reds game just for 30 minutes for the Braves game on and on that announcement yesterday they announced us for saying they think Connor could be up by the end of the month and if that happens I think he's going to push JJ for and I'll rookie the year obviously if not take him there but JJ weather hold another really cool story a guy when you get to follow somebody kind of from the release and before the release like we did with him.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: and on him from the get-go.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of like your baby almost, you know, and it's cool.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's just cool to see McDonald and JJ get it done.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so, so the next one here is friend of the show, our boy, the big fish, Mike Trout.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's so good for baseball to see Mike Trout play well.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: Because, in my opinion, Mike Trout was major league baseball from 2011 through 2018.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: you know, he sustained major league baseball in my opinion during a pretty difficult season of major league baseball, you know, you look back and you had, you know, the steroid era and you had the the so-so McGuire, you know, show
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: back in the late 90s and then you had bonds up into the early 2000s.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: And then you watched it transition and the bonds retire, you know, to mean the Kingriffy Junior Retires and you saw this transition and during that season, I mean you had Albert Poehols, Mickey Cabrera, you had some guys like that, but trout was the guy, you know what I mean?
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: Captain.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: tovated youth and baseball kind of fever again.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: And then he's dealt with all these injuries and for him to come back with the mindset and I mean, he's hitting home runs, he's stealing bases, he's making diving catches in center field, you know, and I think he's batting in the future right now seems to be seeing the ball well.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's got that season confidence about him.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: and I would love nothing more than to see Mike trout, you know, kind of go after number four and put up an MVP caliber season.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: And like that's something I think that would be so good for the game to see a guy at this stage of the game like trout do that well.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know that about it.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's really cool like you said that the story's kind of reversed itself.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_02]: He was the kid but a lot of these kind of veterans in the past were on their way kind of out.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: he was the kid bringing the energy now and now you've got this huge laundry list of kind of kids you know coming up through i mean the next wave of major league baseball talent and uh now he's that season that and hit to see him do it again is really cool for for baseball you know reminds me of the movie sorry there's reminds me of the movie cars remember the movie cars when lightning the game gets bummed out of the town in the Richard Petty car is like the old
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: I steal whatever with the stash on that's Mike Trout right now try out a few incidents other so I cannot think of his name, but that's where I'm thinking of Trout right now.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's like he's the seasoned champion and he's showing these kids how to get it done again.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: I love it man.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well yeah, dude, I mean, he's gonna I'm seeing a big year from Trout.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: Another cool name a guy that I actually owned quite a bit of and I honestly haven't talked about how much on the show, but
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: arm has oozed on him multiple times on the show, and I think when we find that arms oozing on somebody about their hit tool, he's usually pretty right, so I think I'd be tuned in on that.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: When he's oozing about a hitter, and Sal Stewart is that player.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_02]: Sal Stewart is unconscious, I think he had, I think he was going into last night, I think he was seven for his first 10 or eight for his first 10, and then last night's first to bat on what he did the rest of the night, but I know he got a hit for
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: back through and he's just, he's showing he's major league baseball ready.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: The cool thing about South Stewart is, you could have been, we talked about these guys all the time, you could have been buying South Stewart before this breakout, before last fall and some of this, you could have been by in South Stewart for $100.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: His blues, you've been buying $499, $30, $40, $50, he sat there for a period of 18 to 24 months.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: Those are the kind of guys that are really cool, just like the
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: economical that you don't have to go chase all the big names.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_02]: Those are the ones that to me are really cool for the hobby because everybody can win there.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's not just hey who can afford to go get in here.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_02]: You could've got in in a south to a very, very cheap.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: And he's making people a lot of money right now.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: So south to which a cool story.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: The thing I love about south to which is our first on-tray in to boom and was 22 draft.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: That was our first.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: We had just gotten into bone and we had just understood cards.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: We had just missed the Chrome release, which was, you know, Cheerio and James Wood and those guys.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: And so here comes 22 draft, but everything was all about Jackson holiday, you know, Elijah Green, these guys.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then you look at South Stewart who was in that class and it was in that product and we had some South Stewart all those back in the day.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: But the delivery time on that was 22 23 24 25 almost 26.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: You had about a three-year window with South Stewart before he really got put on display.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: And so you saw as price points kind of come down and stay low.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing with Delauder.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Delauder
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember vividly, you know, owning chased a lot or some of these guys, and you watched them perform now for the guys in the hobby that have the conviction and the staying power, you know, they've done well.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: But for guys like you who have the conviction and you double down on a guy like Delauder and you go after the super, this late in the game when somebody's kind of fading on him, I mean, it just goes to show you that cards opens the door for so many different opportunities and possibilities.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's super, super cool.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, Bob, we've got some hots.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: We want to go over it to who's not.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anybody else on the hot list that you really wanted to give a shout out to?
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just Jordan Walker.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: Just a cool story.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I am a sucker for a guy's that had been taught prospects and people just act like they just, I mean, they just act like they suck.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: They just, I mean, they roast these kids online.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm sure they're sending them messages.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a lot of trolls out there.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just happy for Jordan Walker to have a good start.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: Because, you know, you had a really good start to this career.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: When he got called up at 19, the Cardinal sitting back down, he struggled last year and his cup in his time in the pros and everybody's saying he's lost and he's come out red hot.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you's back in over 500 right now.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan Walker's always been extremely talented.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: His card value has,
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: crater to almost nothing.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: So you want to talk about a guy again that you probably could go and buy right now for almost no risk is Jordan Walker and he's showing that his talent is maybe meeting and he's ready for that.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: And so I could see Jordan Walker being one who we look back into this year.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: ends up being an all star that no one was talking about after a week one.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so it's just a cool story again, whether it ends up being that way or not, uh, just a really cool story because been along, been along that riot with Jordan Walker.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think as you recall, luckily for me, I was on the right side of that Matt Hamdo's and got into that early enough before the fall.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_02]: And I still own some of his stuff, can have kind of bought on the back end of him, but I I really love the story here with
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's funny.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'll never forget that speaking of that 22 boom.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, we were like Walker was, you know, prior to then.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Walker debuted that year.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think he debuted in 23 was his initial debut season.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: But I remember a goal Jordan Walker 10 doing like nine grand back then.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: My gosh, a card does $9,000 when we were spending like 300 on our big moments at the time and in scene where he's come full circle and back to performance is certainly good.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: Now, here's the flip side of this bubble.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we talked about it last week.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: You said, if you thought that spring training was reactive, wait until Major League Baseball season, look at, excuse me, look at the, who's not hot.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: list.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: Who's who's not who's cold here?
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I tell you what pretty much take both all star rosters from the last year and all MVP front runners for the last three years and talk about who did not have a good start to the season.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start on this list.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: I let you go one and one just like we did last time.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, it's, you know, it's very early.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't want to embarrass myself here by saying, you know, over reaction.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: I want to
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: very much lay that out from the front end.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: None of what we're saying here is saying that these guys are gonna have a bad year.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just a bad start.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so this who's cold to who's hot could change this week, right?
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: With the names on the left side of the ledger, could move to the right, names to the right, move to the left,
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: And there's going to be a lot of that as a year goes on, but real good point, but I don't want to interrupt you.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is the thing about baseball, but non baseball people don't understand this.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: A basket of all people like, dude, if you're if you're a top-town in the NBA, you're going to have 20 again.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that is just because you take so many shots, you know what I mean?
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have 20 again.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like a major talent in the NBA comes out and scores four points.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: And people think that if a guy goes over four, it's the equivalent of him, you know, to mean scoring four points.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's not it's not baseball.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's an entirely different marker.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, 10 to 15 at bats to get one hit to start the season.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, oh, my God, they're terrible.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's just the matter of numbers over time and the number that bats and stuff.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so, just real quick, like two to your point, this is not a trashing of these guys.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: It just goes to show you the game of baseball.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: and how the best talent in the league can start off slow.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: So go ahead with the who's not.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's a wall of averages and baseball.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, again, just taking it to take it down to your kid level all the way up to the pros.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's really no different.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: A line drive in the bot score that's called at third base.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: will look worse than a flare that flies a flare over first base that was off the hands that falls in for a double down the line oh man he must have crushed that ball down the line oh yeah smoke man it was hit off the hands you know and so it just a swinging butt you know Ronald McKinney yesterday was 83 coming into last night he literally was a slider stopped his bat it almost went in it was like a little blooper between first and second he got on he was pumped right because
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: So again, I think a lot of this will change.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: First week at the baseball historically, you've got some fast orders, you've got some slow starters, but generally pitching has the edge early on.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: These guys have gone through spring training.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: These pictures have been kind of hold back the arsenal, they've been seeing a lot of fast balls, now you're in games and it's the hitters will catch up.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: As the heat comes on to the summer, hitters will catch up to the pitching.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_02]: uh... but i'm going to start the list with uh... show hat on a uh... since he is the golden boy of all the card market right now
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: starting off the season with a 167 average.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure no one wants to see that or expected to see that.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I don't expect to see that continue.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think show Hayatone is batten 200 this year, but I'll just start off with that name because that's an obvious cold start right there.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, you know, it's the most, it's the highest price player in all of Major League Baseball.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: And he comes out through whatever first four games, tenet bats
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and again, we look for these guys to hit bombs and, you know, to rank doubles and to steal bases and do all this kind of stuff and we forget the major baseball season is, you know, hundred and was a hundred sixty two games, a hundred and yeah, it's just, it's just not so the flip side of that is your boy, Cal Raleigh.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Cal Raleigh who was arguably, you know, everybody was like, oh, he deserved the MVP last year.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: All this kind of stuff, you know, he comes out.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was like 10 K's like one for 11 with 10 K's or something, just completely within the ball and not making contact.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: And you're just like, man, like this was night and day.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: Now last night, he did have a pinch hit.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, walk off to give the victory to the Mariners, but I mean, he's batting 176 right now and just seems to be struggling.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like his with is so big right now.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like 10 K's is one thing.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: If you're putting the ball in play, you know, and you're hitting the ball hard.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_01]: You're just hitting it right at people.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's another thing if you're just not making contact.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: And he's just not making contact right now.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm going to go to another one here.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_02]: Paul schemes 67.5 ERA.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, absolutely got shield in his first start, which is unheard of for Paul schemes.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he's been super man since he's been in the league.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, have filthy, filthy stuff.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: I would say he takes that thing from 67.5 to 2.5 or below the rest of the season so obviously that's shocking though when you see somebody in their first start, you see the way he pitched in the WBC and then to come out and play that way on Count Rally to go back to the one you mentioned.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: He's a little more concerning and I'm sure he's concerned because he also carried this slump from the WBC, you know, lost play and time there at the end of Will Smith.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: So that one's going to be interesting there.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, I'm sure, you know, like anybody, I mean, baseball, so mental, you can start to question yourself.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_02]: Man was last year, not real.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, can I do it again?
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: There's a little bit of pressure there.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm rooting for Cal Raleigh and hope you get through that.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not worried about skins at all.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yes.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: in super good dude.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, like you're cheering for these guys.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is like it says not trash but don't pulse schemes.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm sorry if I'm pulse schemes, I literally turn around and take a fun go and hit a line drive right at it.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: Neal crews like because a neal crew just left him out to dry like just terrible centerfield.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: not going to get a fun go and hit it on a cruise.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to text my girl living and go, hey babe, let's just go, let's go on the town tonight.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, let's just get away.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: Me and you.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, we're going to have a good night.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, forget about everything else.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's the mindset I'm going with.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're right at the next start.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: Probably a little bit more stable.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm telling you, man, there's nothing harder than when you're pitching your butt off in your struggling and you get, you know, a can of corn out there.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody just blurs it.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm, I could
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, another one we'll talk about it is Aaron Judge and the Yankees like I'll say this and I don't get into the like historical baseball thing and the owners and who the managers are and like you know how frequently they win or don't win championships or whatever but it's been a while since the Yankees have played for you know the world series or one of the world series I don't know what the date is but you've got the kind of payroll that they have you've got the kind of fire power that they have and and Aaron Judge arguably is one of the greatest Yankees.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: of all time and you know here they are not competing for world series and to not get him a world series with the kind of roster that they have and then he has these MVP's and then comes out the beginning of this year he's batten 188 like I don't know if I'm looking at the Yankees as an organization I'm like we're going to figure out a way to get this done you know and they don't seem to be getting it done right now and I don't know it'd be curious to see how the season rebalance but judge has not had a hot start I think he's batten 188 you know through the first few games
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the Yankees in general, um, I don't know what they're doing.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: They've got Spencer Jones sitting down in the minors just club, but he clubed six home runs and spring training, battered 333.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yet Jason Dominguez have a huge, huge start, hot to the spring.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's down.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, both of them looked at the minor league box scores as morning.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: Both of them are batten.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think 350 plus already in their first week down the Triple A.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: They're both ready.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: They're both I mean ready for an opportunity.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't I don't get those guys kind of simmering there.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: I don't understand the whole John Carlos Stanton thing.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: The dude is not been John Carlos Stanton for what five six years years.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean in your in your poking these guys down in the minor.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know that's going to be a shoot the Yankees eventually they've got some internal options there to help that team, but
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see what happens, but I guess we'll go to here, ham, you got to, I'll go up to more, and then we'll kind of move on.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go Julio, and I'm going to go James Wood.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: Julio is bad in 05 3.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: That's about as bad as you can start.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_02]: Julio is a historical.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: the historical slow-sharter.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, always.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: He's like the dude just takes him a month to get going.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, every single season is like this.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_02]: I followed who they are from the get-go.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: And then about the time you get to the Alstar Brake, it's like, oh, maybe Julio has a decent year and then he finishes just red hot every single season.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_02]: We've seen this play out time and time again.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_02]: And then my boy James Wood, it got a very similar to Cal Raleigh.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_02]: You could see it in spring training.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_02]: Something's off there.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_02]: Something's been off with James Wood since bring training a positive sign the other day He hit an absolute nuke.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_02]: He still James wood.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's still fast.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: He still runs like a deer.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's still gonna hit the ball hard It's all James will get a figured out.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: So who the other I'd read guys, but again It's it's not what you want to see when you're sitting there holding some of their carbs going Man, that's just not the way we want to start, but again, like you mentioned earlier You could these are just the names we've pulled
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: For this conversation we could have pulled another 40 or 50 names right here and thrown them in the same basket because there are a lot of guys that are struggling to start and again we should come back to this in about a month and go Check back in on these guys how they doing now and I would be willing to bet I'd be putting a lot of money around the other side that most of these guys Are doing a lot better than about 30 days.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, have rebounded the two I'll kind of throw in the make sure two guys were invested in two guys we really like and two guys have struggled out of the gate once gunner
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: and the other is a kunja and you know a kunja it's so funny the other night and we we don't do this often during during March madness and opening day of baseball we've got fandle here in North Carolina and so we'll put like a little five dollar parlay down little tin I we're not gamblers we don't better whatever
- 35:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's just something that we started when NC State made their run in the March Man as a couple years ago, so we had a little bit of house money.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, the other day we had this kind of little parlay down and it was a couldn't you to get a hit to cash in on the parlay.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it was like 10 bucks to 150 or something.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: It was a pretty nice, you know, come up.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: tournament over four and like round of a good year, you're terrible.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: Get a base hit, but he's batting to 14 and you know, to start the season and you know, you wanted to see him come back from injury and you wanted to see him come out and do a few things and kind of earn the flash, earn the swag and just been kind of a slow start.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: No home runs or anything.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: dynamic.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like you said, he's get infilled but sing holes in, you know, the squeezing ground balls in the hole and then gunner, you know, same thing.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: You want to wanted to see gunner come out with this kind of like, you know, in the first half of the season, you know, go, go five for 10 hit a couple of bombs.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: He did hit a bomb last night.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think so, you know, like I said, a little bit of this will be rebounding, but it's interesting to me that the big traditional names.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: right are flat.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: And here you have these these young rookies coming out raking.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: And one thing I'll mention on this bubble.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: This is something we can get in this conversation on another episode.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: I like to talk with us about arm.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: The pitching quality in Major League Baseball now compared to the historical pitching quality in Major League Baseball is night and day.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's so specialized now that these pictures, I mean, the availability of film, the workout, the stuff that they have, I mean, you have to be ridiculously good to hit against major league pitching now because top to bottom, you know, middle relievers all the way into the closer starters like there is reduced.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: You list talent and major league baseball and everybody's throwing you know close to 100 miles an hour You know, it is it's dirty right now So here we are bashing hitters that are that are batting you know 200 you and we couldn't even sniff it if we still It sounded like a strike, you know, so I didn't see it but anyway just a little note there I think that that has a lot to do with why hitters or struggling right now
- 37:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, no, like I said, I mean, they're who they are for a reason.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_02]: They'll be fine.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: The timing will get there.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_02]: It takes a second.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_02]: And on a kuneous front, on a positive side, if you are collecting a kuneous, you're thinking about collecting him.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_02]: Watch every British game that I can, as long as my kids aren't playing sports at the same time.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to steal a lot of bases this year.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_02]: Lane is going to be extremely aggressive on the base pass.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_02]: They get they hired the Met's first base coach who was I think had the highest percentage of steals of Major League Baseball last year.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_02]: They hired him from the Met's and he is running every game.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_02]: Cunious all the base last night.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to steal 40 50 bags again, which to me, what makes him so incredibly special is why his power potential and speed potential.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, I think that's one thing to note there.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Bubba, so we kind of broke down the who's hot, who's not.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: When it closed the episode today, just talking about like the, the, the, the reality of like cards right now in the marketplace of investments, um, being so strong, compared to the market, compared to crypto, compared to all the economics.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_01]: Talk a little bit like you said it before the episode.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to title this cards our king.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, what do you mean by that right now?
- 38:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what I mean is every day when I wake up and you drink your coffee, which I'm doing this morning on the show, so I'm not doing my normal routine, but normally when I'm looking at, you know, the box scores, that's what I do that I look at stocks investments and things that I'm looking at, how are they doing and what how's the pre-market, how's the day going.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: And generally right now, we're in this stage right now of everything being negative.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: All the notes you see, all the investments, goals getting hammered, nothing's been safe.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: Silver's got absolutely bombed everything, all investments.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, most things have just got absolutely hammered.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: Crypto's gotten smoked over the last couple months, and it's, uh, it's kind of tough.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: You know, when you're sitting there and you're seeing your investments just get rock day in and day out, it's a tough place to be.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I know people do that with their retirement funds from caves and stuff.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: The wake up one morning and the go baby, we're doing great.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: You wake up the next day and go, gosh, I mean, look at the look at the total money we've lost in the last 30, 45 days.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, everybody, I think realizes that it's probably a short term pain, but there's a chance, obviously, that could grow into something much more if a recession starts and some other things don't change.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: cards has been very refreshing from that front.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: And in the past, we've seen cards at times kind of go with other markets, but I think we're seeing a real resilience this time where people are going, hey, I'm going to go more into cards.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_02]: Why would I not be putting more of my money and capital over here where I'm a little more insulating, can kind of control my destiny a bit more than what's happening in Wall Street where I have no say.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_02]: So to me, I think that's it.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: I think cards are king right now.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_02]: I really do that could change on a dime.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_02]: That could change tomorrow.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_02]: That could change in two weeks.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: That could change in four weeks.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: But right now, it's a really good place to be investing your money.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_02]: Because the amount of return you can get in the short period of time really can't be mash anywhere else.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's stocks are going to bounce back.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: I believe that at some period of time.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: But cards right now is a place where you can, there's no other place I know.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_02]: where you can go in and make 500% on your money in a month on cards like you can in this business and obviously 500% of hell will return on any card and i'm not saying that's a regular thing but even if you're making 10% on a deal and you're doing that every 30 days 10% times 12 that's 120% annualized i mean that's that's ridiculous
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's what people don't understand as the time capital.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: You make a 10% APY on a mutual fund and you're like, Oh my gosh, you made 10%, you make 10% in a month on a card, turn around and make it again next month, like you said, when you annualize that, like it's a big number.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the beauty of how we've been successful.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: I go back to Brent's episode, which you know, by the way, Brent's episode with Deep Value Invest.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: We need to get Brent back on.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: That was actually one of the top episodes of SportsCars CEO all time.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: and people love it because we talk this kind of strategy.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: The interesting thing when you get into investing, you get into asset classes.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: Stocks are great, you know, they're fine.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_01]: They're predictable to some degree, but you don't have a tangible asset.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: You have this fluffy share of paper on the internet somewhere, and you just watch a little ticker.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: With cards you have tangible assets, you know, I have a Michael Jordan rookie sitting on my shelf right now that I paid $3,000 for a year ago, it's worth $7,000 right now, you know, I mean, it's I've got another one that just had a comp at $40,000 and I'm sitting there and I get to look at these cards and they are assets and so the tension is as you kind of fall in love with the hard asset.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: and lose sight of the whole premise behind it of kind of capitalizing return on your investment.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a little bit of both.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: And that's where you can choose what to sell off.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_01]: You can choose what to hold.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, they can go down, they can change cards and collectibles as an asset class.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: is something that's very unique.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I can say this because I'm the old guy on the block here.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm 44 grew up in the 80s early knees and there is some nostalgia to the idea to like own things that remind you of your childhood because you grow up and you're like damn it.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: I've got too much responsibility now and I got kids to take care of.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: I got a job and you want to feel like a kid again.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you do?
- 42:46[SPEAKER_01]: You go and go back to the thing that you love when you were a kid.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what I mean?
- 42:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's Michael Jordan or it's, you know what I mean?
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: For me a carrot can join your or
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: Little random stuff, man, like a pair of air Jordan sneakers, or, you know, like, I just, I love like a vintage pair of shoes or a vintage pair of like t-shirt, you know what, my point being is there's a lot of dudes that are in the same space that that I'm in that you're in, and we're in this grown-up place, but we like to remind ourselves of kind of the joy of being a kid and having some stuff, and so to go back into the marketplace and grab a card,
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: and to engage in this with our kids, like there's some kind of like elementary aspect of this that I think people overlook and it is driving this market in a really positive direction that you can't get by buying a stock, like who cares?
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, my 401k's great.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like you said, check out my Hank Aaron Rookie card.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: The 12-year-old version of me would have killed the have this.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_02]: And now I can...
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, not to mention that you're making money on something that you enjoy.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_02]: I think every person dreams that one day, you know, whether they want it to be an athlete or they want it to be a movie star or whatever it's going to be.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: Well, when you can take that and you love baseball or you love football or you love basketball or you love that specific team or that player and you can take that and invest in that and that investment's making you money.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, what's cooler than that?
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, what's cooler than...
- 44:14[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's kind of like draft kings, but you're not planning it's the casino.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: Like in draft kings, you're your odds or to lose in sports cards.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: If you learn and you become a student of this game and you understand kind of the rules of engagement, which again, we've all had our haircut starting off on this on how to learn the rules of engagement.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: Once you learn those, you can make money.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: And you can do very, very well.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: And you can do it.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it goes to what we've talked about when to enter and when to exit cars.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like I mean, and that's that's we talk about it all the time.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: You brought it up earlier in the episode and I wanna hit on to the again because it is the theme of this show in my opinion.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_02]: there are so many times that you can go in and out of a player's market and make money.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: And you've got to this thing of like holding on forever is the worst thing you can do, or chasing somebody into a foam-o fire is also a very bad thing.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's no different than a stock.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: When it hits the top, you've got to say, okay, this stock is at the top.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: what is making this stock continue to rise?
- 45:21[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and what's going to make this fall?
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: And there are stories in, and I'll give you a player right now.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think Aaron Judge is a guy that stock probably could continue to rise just because he has more room to rise based on the, the highs of what some, what a Tony's done and other players on the flip side.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_02]: I'd be scared, very scared.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_02]: If I was out there buying some of these Otones that I see for 30, 40, 50, 60, 70,000 dollars, because some of these cards aren't worth much at all in my opinion in a long time from now.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's not going to be 100,000 Otones cards that are worth a ton of money one day.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: And so I would have a little fear there on some of the Otones stuff that I see going for the price.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's not not the throw when he shaded him as the player, because I think he's phenomenal.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: But some of the quality of the cards that I'm seeing that are going sticker autos and stuff going for ridiculous prices.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's, that's a little scary.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you know, a lot to talk about, but we want to kind of keep it tight though in rapid days episode up.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's more on the more meat on the bone here.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to dive into that, you know, over the coming weeks.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_01]: But just to say thank you to our listeners.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: And so hope that you guys continue to enjoy this.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: We bring
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: high quality content to each and every week as we all dive into the baseball and life and sports cards and all things we love.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_01]: So, but any closing thoughts today.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, closing thoughts.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: Next week, you'll see me sipping on my tie on the episodes that have a cup of coffee.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, that'll be the change of pace there.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_02]: So, I'm looking forward to that.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_02]: You know, to kind of hammer home exactly what you just said, just really thankful for this show and the relationship we've been able to build.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, every week to look at this time, whether to be in the card space or the personal space to say, you don't want to get better in one form of fashion.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_02]: you know, and try to take something from one of these episodes.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's what it is for for me as much as anything to take this hour and go.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a way I could be getting better in investments or business over here or something on the personal side or maybe I could be better in a dad as this, you know, in this situation.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_02]: And when you've got people like Brandon Steiner that come on and some of these guests we've had to, it's really cool to kind of some things up from them.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I think in life, you can just learn from from people and again, ham, I learned a quite a bit from you just you've rubbed off on me in some ways.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: So again, I enjoy doing this every week and we're going to keep doing it.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: Amen, brother.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: Bye bye.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you, dude.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: And look forward to seeing your person here.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: We got to figure that out.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: We got to get down to the farmer, get you up.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_01]: We got to meet the lake or something.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm ready for a little in person two months.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm back.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_02]: My my schedule is clear.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: We got to Cooperstown.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, anybody that's got kids going to Cooperstown.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking to somebody I bought a car from yesterday.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: Their son's going to be in Cooperstown.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_02]: If you're going to be up there the first week of June, we're going to be up at Cooperstown with our 12-ute team up there.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: If any of you have songs that are going to be up there at that tournament, we'd love to meet you.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to be a fun week.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: So if you've got kids going to be up there, I'd love to meet you up that way.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: Friends, thank you so much for tuning in to the SportsCard CEO.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be back next week for more.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: Peace.
