- 0:03Melinda Lee: Welcome, dear listeners, I'm so glad you're
- 0:06here. Today, we're going to talk about being visible,
- 0:11consistently visible, consistently allowing the
- 0:17authority figures, the people around you, your community, your
- 0:22family members, to see you as the leader, the expert, the
- 0:27trusted partner, that you want them, to see you as they want to
- 0:33see you as. So how do we do that, we're going to go into
- 0:38some techniques to help you work through any of the blocks that
- 0:41you have, that may be preventing you from allowing yourself to be
- 0:45seen. Because right now, it is the most important time more
- 0:50than ever, to have leaders such as you rise to be seen, even
- 0:55when you're afraid. consistently being visible. That means to
- 1:02allow the eyes on you to allow lots of eyes on you and getting
- 1:08super comfortable with that. And I know that that's a big stretch
- 1:13could be a big challenge for some of you. And but that's why
- 1:17you're here. That is why you're here to learn more about that
- 1:21because we need you, your voice matters. So if 1020 People
- 1:28frighten you start was one, start with just speaking up in
- 1:33front of those meetings, start with speaking up to your manager
- 1:37to your boss, being visible, and allowing them to see you as that
- 1:43trusted expert speaking confidently, clearly,
- 1:48articulately with power with with enthusiasm. Many people
- 1:53want to as soon as they get into the spotlight, when all eyes are
- 1:57on them, I see them start to just shrivel away. Or they
- 2:02contract, right the nerves get in their body, and then they
- 2:06start to contract and be somebody else. And it's like
- 2:09right before they got into the spotlight, they were somebody
- 2:12different. They were just them being them. And then when the
- 2:16eyes are on them, they start to just contract and it breaks my
- 2:20heart, it saddens me, because I know that we are so much more, I
- 2:25know that your voice is a vehicle of impact a vehicle to
- 2:30connect with others. And so don't hold back. The challenge
- 2:36is most of us, we we have a lot on our plate. So being visible
- 2:42may get pushed to the side. Right, you may have good
- 2:45intentions to say I'm going to do more presentations. I'm going
- 2:50to lead team meetings. But then sometimes work. You go back to
- 2:56the office, there's ABC to do there's there's administrative
- 3:02tasks, and then you get to go home and take a walk the dog
- 3:05take care of the kids like there's a lot on our plates. And
- 3:10then we get we push being visible to the side. And then we
- 3:15work behind the curtains. And then sometimes when you're
- 3:19sitting so, so busy behind the curtain doing all these tasks,
- 3:23we some of your work may get unnoticed. People don't know
- 3:28what you're doing. Right and they and then they start to
- 3:31create assumptions, create stories. Stories that may be
- 3:36untrue stories that that they form, what they want to create
- 3:42in their mind. So there is huge repercussions and risks for not
- 3:50communicating who you are, the experiences that you're having
- 3:55what you are learning how you're overcoming challenges. Telling
- 4:00your story, the way you see it. so other people can connect with
- 4:07you and understand you and see the truth of who you are. Don't
- 4:15hold back and stay behind the curtains because you know what's
- 4:18going to happen one day, that curtain someone's going to knock
- 4:22on your curtain. And then they're going to say hey, I'd
- 4:26like for you to deliver a presentation tomorrow or next
- 4:30week. And I might be in front of really important people could be
- 4:36team leaders could be the executive C suite or an
- 4:39important client. Are you ready? Really think about that right
- 4:45now. If someone were to ask you to deliver an important
- 4:48presentation in a couple of days. Are you ready? What is
- 4:53happening in your body? Can you be as confident as you want to
- 4:59be feel that in your body? Feel that in your heart? Can you be
- 5:06as confident as you want to be? Can you rely on being
- 5:10consistently confident? Can you rely on speaking and flow
- 5:15speaking with your heart speaking with passion? Are you
- 5:20thinking about? Am I gonna say the right thing? Am I going to I
- 5:25probably will stumble, I probably will mess this up, and
- 5:28I gotta practice and practice and rehearse. That's just your
- 5:33inner critic, right? That's your fear mechanism. Because I know
- 5:37you don't have to practice that much. You if you've been asked
- 5:40to deliver a presentation, you know, your material. Telling
- 5:44yourself I need to practice more is just a defence mechanism.
- 5:48It's actually preventing you from really being the truth of
- 5:52who you are, and being in flow, speaking with ease speaking with
- 5:55confidence. So here are some techniques I'd like to share
- 6:02with you today on how to be consistently visible,
- 6:07consistently confident, consistently visible, it's
- 6:10three, right? Create a schedule, speak with confidence with
- 6:17power. And third is do it for somebody. So first, create a
- 6:25schedule. Like I mentioned earlier, sometimes we go back to
- 6:31administrative tasks are working behind the curtains, and people
- 6:35may not see what you're doing. So create a schedule for
- 6:39yourself. This week, I'm going to be visible one, two times,
- 6:44I'm going to speak in the meeting, I'm going to talk to my
- 6:47boss, or, or this week, I'm going to do a presentation. This
- 6:54month, I'm wanting to deliver a webinar and have a consistent
- 6:59schedule. I want you to know that this is not easy for me
- 7:05doing these podcasts, creating videos. Just curious, do you
- 7:11think this is easy for me? There was a moment in my past and I
- 7:18couldn't even look at my own photos. I couldn't even look at
- 7:21my videos, or I couldn't stand looking at them. But I worked
- 7:25through my doubt, I worked I found the root causes of my
- 7:29doubt work through them. And then now I'm here. And then what
- 7:33I realised is being consistently visible showing up anyways,
- 7:39works, right I started to become the expert, people started
- 7:43seeing me because they trust me. And then I build influence. And
- 7:49most importantly, I'm sharing the information and sharing what
- 7:54I love sharing what I know, to connect with others. So build a
- 8:01schedule that will keep you on track. And then to when you do
- 8:07show up, show up powerfully. Select a time during the day
- 8:12where you're not as tired, where you're feeling confident. Speak
- 8:17with power. So use the techniques that I've shown you.
- 8:21Take some breathe, do some breathing box, breathing, where
- 8:26you inhale for four, hold it for four, and then exhale for four
- 8:33and holds it for four. It's just like a box, inhale. Or hold it
- 8:40234 exhale 234, hold it 234 Do the box breathing exercise
- 8:52before you speak. And that will allow you to speak confidently
- 8:56passionately. And finally, third, do it for somebody. Even
- 9:03if you are not feeling well. Or even if you don't want to do it.
- 9:10Think about who you're doing it for whether it's your family
- 9:12member, whether it's your kids, if you're a minority out there
- 9:16and a leader because we need more leaders like you to rise.
- 9:21Do it for us. Do it for your fellow people. The people that
- 9:26need you to rise we need more minorities up at the C suite up
- 9:32at the seat at the table. More women. If you're a woman out
- 9:37there, do it for the rest of us women. Do it for somebody
- 9:44that will give you that courage to rise. Being a leader doesn't
- 9:49mean that you have all your ducks in a row and you have all
- 9:51your information you have everything down know being a
- 9:54leader is being visible even in the unknown. And that is why I
- 9:59say breathe through it. Speak with confidence even in the
- 10:04unknown. Do it anyways, do it for others do it for your
- 10:10people. But Phil, feel that courage inside of you, and
- 10:16speak, speak your truth, speak and flow. So using those three
- 10:23techniques will help you to be more consistently visible,
- 10:28consistently confident. All right, first, set a schedule, do
- 10:33it during a time during a day where you feel confident when
- 10:37you feel good, not tired, overwhelmed. Use some breathing
- 10:43techniques to speak purposefully speak with power breathing
- 10:48techniques, get your body into a state where it's ready to speak.
- 10:53Don't forget, your body's included. It's just not about
- 10:56read, writing, what am I going to say? Writing all the talking
- 10:59points. It's also including your body, getting into state using
- 11:05techniques such as breathing, then finally do it for somebody,
- 11:09do it for your fellow minority leaders, do it for women, do it
- 11:15for your children, do it for your family connects to somebody
- 11:19and do it for us. We need leaders more leaders who care
- 11:25about people. And not just money or the bottom line, right,
- 11:30that's just a symptom, that's just an outcome that naturally
- 11:33happens when you care to lift others up. And when you know
- 11:39that your voice is a vehicle for impact, you connect with others.
- 11:43And when you connect with others, you raise a you raise
- 11:46people up. And when you can raise people up, you're making a
- 11:53positive difference in the world. Positive Change moving
- 12:01the needle for the organisation for your community. And that is
- 12:06the power of our voice. And so being seen doesn't mean you know
- 12:12everything doesn't mean that you know what's about to happen.
- 12:17being seen as a leader means that you do it anyways, despite
- 12:21the uncertainty, the doubt the ambiguity, you do it, you go and
- 12:28use the tools and techniques that I've shared with you today.
- 12:32Be consistently seen allowing people to connect with you
- 12:39connect with your eyes, connect and be okay with all eyes on
- 12:44you. So okay to be in the spotlight. Because your voice
- 12:49matters. You matter, you matter to us. And use your voice as a
- 12:55vehicle for impact. Until the next episode, uh, dear
- 13:02listeners, I'm so grateful for you continuing to listen. I
- 13:08gotta notes that my this podcast has is a top 10% out of global
- 13:15podcast for downloads. I had no idea. I kept showing up anyways,
- 13:22do redoing these recordings, interviewing amazing leaders not
- 13:26knowing whether anyone is listening. I continue to show up
- 13:32be seen. And then here it is. Here's the the response that I'm
- 13:39getting. So I am so grateful for you. Grateful for you to be
- 13:44here. Continue to rise, speak in flow. When you do you're making
- 13:51impact for yourself and for others. Until next time
