- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Happy Tuesday. Happy September. It's September already. That's kind of wild.
- 0:12Speaker 4: No.
- 0:13Speaker 5: Oh, don't make me go back.
- 0:15Speaker 3: I know. Summer is over.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Headlines brought to you by Frostbrew and Corzine. Choose chill.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Seattle's Major League Baseball team continues to play fundamentals of
- 0:25Speaker 2: the game in a way even a Pony League player
- 0:27Speaker 2: would know not to do. Randy Rosarito last night did
- 0:31Speaker 2: all he could and more to give the Mariners the
- 0:34Speaker 2: lead late at Fenway Park. Big hits, go-ahead runs, late
- 0:40Speaker 2: in game, rallying from down to up.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Then, night denning.
- 0:47Speaker 2: The first rule of last-inning defense with a lead, no doubles.
- 0:52Speaker 6: No doubles.
- 0:53Speaker 3: It's why guys play on the line.
- 0:54Speaker 2: It's why outfielders play deep, especially in Fenway Park with
- 0:58Speaker 2: short porches. It's just, first of all, let's, let's, let's
- 1:04Speaker 2: start with the good. Here's how the Mariners took the lead.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I actually only have the fumble right now.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:10Speaker 6: Let's talk about the bad.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Roman with one home run on the season. Tags that
- 1:15Speaker 2: with a line drive center field. Oh, misplayed by Rodriguez
- 1:20Speaker 2: all the.
- 1:20Speaker 7: Way to the fence and center.
- 1:24Speaker 2: All the way to third is Roman Anthony standing.
- 1:27Speaker 5: On the bag.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Dan O'Brien, Nessun, New England Sports Network. That should have
- 1:38Speaker 2: been inside the park home run. He only stopped because
- 1:39Speaker 2: there was nobody out in the run of the third.
- 1:41Speaker 2: That allowed the Red Sox to tie in the ninth.
- 1:43Speaker 2: In the tenth, Dan Wilson. Teams know it all. Analytics
- 1:47Speaker 2: said intentionally walked. The base is loaded with a guy
- 1:49Speaker 2: who hasn't pitched since June. In his first games off
- 1:53Speaker 2: the injured list, Cooper Criswell. Here, no room for error.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Just bases loaded one out. Go for it.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Of course, he fell behind 3-0. Had to groove a pitch.
- 2:02Speaker 3: And two and three. Hit to the wall.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Game over.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Mariners 10 games under.
- 2:07Speaker 2: 500.
- 2:08Speaker 3: 10 games.
- 2:09Speaker 2: That team that was eight outs from the World Series
- 2:10Speaker 2: is 10 games under. 500. I can tell you there's
- 2:13Speaker 2: six games out with 24 to play. I can tell
- 2:15Speaker 2: you game two of the series is today in Boston.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I can tell you all of that. Day after final cuts,
- 2:21Speaker 2: the Seahawks set their 17-man practice squad. All of them
- 2:24Speaker 2: were in training camp with them. As we said, Trevon
- 2:26Speaker 2: Diggs is on it. All four of the rookie draft
- 2:29Speaker 2: picks they waived are on it. Not on it, noticeably.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Cody White, De'Anthony Bell, Noah Igbenaghi. Teams off today and tomorrow.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Return to practice Thursday for the opener next Wednesday at
- 2:39Speaker 2: Lumen Field against New England. UCLA today fired athletic director
- 2:43Speaker 2: Martin Jarmon. The university president cited the, quote, significant financial
- 2:47Speaker 2: deficit UCLA athletic department is in.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Well, guess who created that? The UCLA president.
- 2:55Speaker 5: What?
- 2:55Speaker 3: By joining the Big Ten.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Huh.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Shocking.
- 2:59Speaker 2: But he's going to fire himself, so he fires the
- 3:01Speaker 2: athletic director. Now on with the Tuesday show. Mark Morrison,
- 3:06Speaker 2: wherever you are, good morning to you. Good morning to
- 3:08Speaker 2: Jessamyn McIntyre.
- 3:08Speaker 5: We've got to get him on the show.
- 3:09Speaker 3: That would be great. That would be great.
- 3:12Speaker 5: You know, I'm a very good stalker.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Oh, I did not know that.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, because I'm pretty stealthy, so you wouldn't know.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Does your husband know that?
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:23Speaker 3: He's well aware.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:25Speaker 5: No, I like getting people on our show.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Yeah. Okay.
- 3:31Speaker 2: That would be a challenge. Mark Morrison from 1990s fame.
- 3:35Speaker 5: Don't you dare me.
- 3:36Speaker 2: We may have to do that. I wonder if he knows.
- 3:38Speaker 2: He probably doesn't even know. He probably will ask for
- 3:41Speaker 2: royalties for how much we play that song.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Happy Tuesday.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Happy September. Football is upon us. So the Mariners conveniently
- 3:48Speaker 2: just checked out. Five-game losing streak when they absolutely have
- 3:51Speaker 2: to win.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 2: You know what? The bottom line is they're a professional
- 3:58Speaker 2: baseball team. They are paid to make play. And I
- 4:02Speaker 2: know it's going to be whiplash for the listeners who
- 4:04Speaker 2: listen from Chuck Powell's show to our show. But I'm
- 4:08Speaker 2: going to just tell you. Dan Wilson can only do
- 4:11Speaker 2: so much. He's a major league manager. He's not a
- 4:12Speaker 2: high school coach. He's not a Babe Ruth League coach.
- 4:17Speaker 2: He's a major league baseball manager with no experience, by
- 4:20Speaker 2: the way, who says everything he has to say yes
- 4:22Speaker 2: to Jerry DiPoto or else he wouldn't have the job.
- 4:25Speaker 3: He wouldn't have gotten the job.
- 4:26Speaker 2: In the first place.
- 4:26Speaker 5: There's only a handful of those jobs in this country.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But the things that people are assigning blame to the
- 4:34Speaker 2: manager should never, ever, ever, ever.
- 4:37Speaker 3: fall on a coach or manager. It should be on
- 4:39Speaker 3: the players.
- 4:41Speaker 2: A player should know from playing baseball his entire life,
- 4:45Speaker 2: when you have a one-run lead in the last inning,
- 4:50Speaker 2: they don't announce. Dan Wilson doesn't stand at the top
- 4:54Speaker 2: step of the dugout and yell out no doubles to
- 4:56Speaker 2: begin the bottom of the ninth.
- 4:57Speaker 3: He doesn't. Everyone knows it.
- 5:00Speaker 2: It's why the first baseman and the third baseman hug
- 5:02Speaker 2: the foul lines. It's why the fielders in any park,
- 5:05Speaker 2: but especially Fenway, play deep. You concede the single because
- 5:11Speaker 2: it takes multiple singles to kill you there. But one
- 5:14Speaker 2: extra base hit can ruin the game, which is exactly
- 5:17Speaker 2: what happened. You don't go for it there. It is
- 5:21Speaker 2: an ironclad rule that you don't sell out, especially to
- 5:25Speaker 2: begin an inning. You don't sell out there. You take
- 5:29Speaker 2: the single to protect against the double and the triple.
- 5:32Speaker 2: That is exactly– I mean, that's as old as Doubleday.
- 5:36Speaker 2: That is just baseball. I don't even have to tell
- 5:39Speaker 2: my high school players I coached.
- 5:42Speaker 8: I don't.
- 5:43Speaker 3: They know. They don't even say, coach, no doubles, right?
- 5:46Speaker 3: They know. They absolutely know.
- 5:49Speaker 5: I should not be laughing. Oh, it's bad. That was bad.
- 5:55Speaker 3: That's not Dan Wilson's fault. That is not Dan Wilson's fault.
- 5:58Speaker 2: It is not. Now, you can blame him for bringing Criswell.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Did Jose Ferrer miss the flight from Toronto to Boston?
- 6:04Speaker 2: Was he not on the team last night? Do the
- 6:07Speaker 2: laws of physics cease to exist on your stove?
- 6:10Speaker 4: Okay, nice My Cousin Minnie reference.
- 6:13Speaker 3: That's one of the greatest scenes of a great movie.
- 6:15Speaker 5: The grits.
- 6:15Speaker 2: The grits. Yep.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Do you have some magic grits?
- 6:19Speaker 2: Do you mean to tell me the laws of physics
- 6:21Speaker 2: fail to exist on your, cease to exist on your stuff?
- 6:24Speaker 5: Cease to exist, yes.
- 6:26Speaker 3: An amazing scene.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Oh, there are so many good scenes in that movie.
- 6:30Speaker 2: That was fabulous. 49451, tell me if there's a better
- 6:34Speaker 2: scene in My Cousin Vinny than the grits scene.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Oh, my biological clock is ticking like this. Sorry, Marissa
- 6:40Speaker 4: kind of won that movie.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Well, she won an Academy Award for that.
- 6:43Speaker 5: And she should.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Best Supporting Actress. I mean, come on.
- 6:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 3: There's so many things. I mean, how many times have
- 6:53Speaker 3: we done this in a year? You should do this.
- 6:55Speaker 2: I mean, this is crazy how many times during a
- 6:57Speaker 2: season we can go, wait a minute. This is a
- 6:59Speaker 2: professional baseball team, and we have to talk about this?
- 7:03Speaker 2: We have to talk about this? Those stupid iPads that
- 7:06Speaker 2: said load the bases with a guy who hadn't pitched
- 7:08Speaker 2: in three months?
- 7:10Speaker 3: That was incredible.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Incredible. I just couldn't believe it. First, I couldn't believe
- 7:17Speaker 2: Criswell was coming out of the bullpen. I thought Farrar
- 7:19Speaker 2: got kicked off the team or did something or got
- 7:23Speaker 2: arrested or something.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Farrar, excuse me. I'm mispronouncing it.
- 7:28Speaker 2: He's a major league experience, major league closer. He was
- 7:30Speaker 2: a closer for Washington. Don't give me handedness. Don't give me–
- 7:34Speaker 2: give me somebody who's been in that cauldron before. Fenway Park,
- 7:38Speaker 2: game on the line, a major league closer. You have
- 7:40Speaker 2: a major league closer.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Green monster!
- 7:42Speaker 2: You have a major league closer in your bullpen, and
- 7:45Speaker 2: you bring in Cooper Criswell.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 7:49Speaker 4: Wow, thank you for that self-edit there.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Are you kidding me?
- 7:53Speaker 3: I couldn't believe it.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it. And then, of course, the Red
- 7:58Speaker 2: Sox butt him over to third. And then you have
- 8:00Speaker 2: a runner at third. And my son and I were
- 8:02Speaker 2: watching the game. And there's a runner at third. And
- 8:05Speaker 2: I said, you know what he's going to do? He's
- 8:06Speaker 2: going to load the bases with a guy who hasn't
- 8:08Speaker 2: pitched in two months. And my son goes, nah, he
- 8:11Speaker 2: can't do that to that guy. And there go the
- 8:15Speaker 2: runners walking down the first base. I just was like,
- 8:19Speaker 2: you're giving this guy who hasn't pitched since June 8th
- 8:22Speaker 2: no room to do anything. He can't waste one. He
- 8:26Speaker 2: can't nothing. And of course he goes 3-0. Of course
- 8:30Speaker 2: it goes 3-0.
- 8:32Speaker 3: And then the game's over.
- 8:33Speaker 2: It doesn't matter now because you got to groove three
- 8:35Speaker 2: straight fastballs down the middle. And he did. Story, and
- 8:40Speaker 2: another thing is, you're facing a guy who was one
- 8:42Speaker 2: of the two most productive hitters on the team for
- 8:45Speaker 2: the Red Sox last night. Story, of course, hits it
- 8:48Speaker 2: to the wall. He went two for five with three RBIs.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Ferrer would be okay in that situation.
- 8:57Speaker 2: I'm just saying, you have a major league closer, a
- 8:58Speaker 2: guy who used to be a closer for a major
- 9:00Speaker 2: league baseball team, or you have Cooper Criswell. I don't
- 9:04Speaker 2: even know if they're... How many 4A pitchers have we
- 9:07Speaker 2: seen in high leverage situations? That's a failure of roster
- 9:12Speaker 2: construction as well as managing the bullpen.
- 9:16Speaker 3: And the fundamentals of baseball, the Mariners don't value that.
- 9:19Speaker 2: They value launch angles, exit velocities, hot dogs from heaven, fireworks,
- 9:23Speaker 2: and bobbleheads.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Not in that order.
- 9:26Speaker 2: They don't value major league fundamentals, even basic baseball fundamentals.
- 9:31Speaker 2: They didn't build their team that way. Launch angles, exit velocities.
- 9:37Speaker 2: That starts at the top. That has nothing to do
- 9:39Speaker 2: with Dan Wilson. It has everything to do with Jerry DiPoto.
- 9:42Speaker 2: But their owner is set with Jerry DiPoto because they're
- 9:46Speaker 2: in the fringes of contention drawing 3.7 million fans and
- 9:50Speaker 2: 42,000 a night on a weeknight in August because of frickin'
- 9:54Speaker 2: Hot Dogs for Heaven and all the.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Other things they do. They're good.
- 9:58Speaker 2: The 20 some people who own the mariners are good
- 10:01Speaker 2: the millions and millions of fans who watch them are
- 10:04Speaker 2: very ungood because they've been doing this for 50 freaking
- 10:08Speaker 2: years But as a business enterprise, it works. As a
- 10:12Speaker 2: baseball enterprise, it absolutely sucks to watch. It's so frustrating.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Last night was absurd. If we were watching the Little
- 10:20Speaker 2: League World Series at Williamsport, we would say the same things.
- 10:24Speaker 2: We would say, why wasn't Nevada in no doubles in
- 10:26Speaker 2: the sixth inning?
- 10:28Speaker 6: We would.
- 10:29Speaker 2: We would say, why would they intentionally walk the bases
- 10:32Speaker 2: loaded with a kid who hasn't pitched since he was
- 10:33Speaker 2: in third grade? We would say the same things. We're
- 10:36Speaker 2: just projecting him out of the.
- 10:37Speaker 3: Major League team. Let's not even talk about playoff contention.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Let's talk about the baseball fundamentals that this baseball franchise
- 10:45Speaker 2: doesn't care about.
- 10:47Speaker 3: And that's what loses games.
- 10:49Speaker 2: When you don't play no doubles defense and you have
- 10:51Speaker 2: a center fielder who goes for it, you don't value
- 10:54Speaker 2: the baseball fundamentals that win games.
- 10:57Speaker 3: That's me hero ball. That was just crazy.
- 11:01Speaker 8: I don't.
- 11:02Speaker 3: You've got to bench his ass. You've got to keep
- 11:05Speaker 3: Bazzardo out of any situation.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Even if they're up 8-0, he needs to sit for
- 11:10Speaker 2: what happened in Toronto.
- 11:12Speaker 3: When they handed Bazzardo the ball, I was like, what
- 11:14Speaker 3: are they doing?
- 11:14Speaker 2: They're rewarding a guy who let a guy slide under
- 11:17Speaker 2: his feet at home plate to cost him a game
- 11:19Speaker 2: in Toronto. He shouldn't see the field until next season.
- 11:24Speaker 3: He's done. Benched. Julio needs to take a seat today.
- 11:28Speaker 3: They won't.
- 11:30Speaker 6: They won't.
- 11:31Speaker 2: They should have done this back in May and June
- 11:33Speaker 2: when this stuff was happening, and they never did.
- 11:35Speaker 3: There's no accountability. There's nobody to say, you know what?
- 11:38Speaker 3: We ain't doing this.
- 11:40Speaker 2: When we're in no doubles defense, you're not diving for
- 11:42Speaker 2: a ball that's 10 feet in front of you.
- 11:44Speaker 3: You're not.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And if you do, you're sitting. If you throw a
- 11:46Speaker 2: ball in the stands with two outs and one out,
- 11:48Speaker 2: you're sitting. If you run three and two with one out,
- 11:53Speaker 2: thinking there's two outs, and just give yourself up between
- 11:55Speaker 2: first and second, you're sitting.
- 11:58Speaker 3: All of this stuff has happened. And it keeps happening.
- 12:02Speaker 3: There's no accountability.
- 12:03Speaker 2: There's no leadership starting from the top of baseball operations
- 12:06Speaker 2: on down. And we just see it again and again
- 12:08Speaker 2: and again. But because they get 37,000 on a weeknight
- 12:12Speaker 2: in August for.
- 12:12Speaker 3: The Reds, it works. As a baseball business, it works.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Man, I am.
- 12:21Speaker 3: When can this baseball season just end? Put us through this.
- 12:24Speaker 5: You're going to apathy, Greg. You're going to apathy.
- 12:27Speaker 9: I am.
- 12:27Speaker 5: I know.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Because I've cared for too long.
- 12:29Speaker 5: You do still care, though.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I care to watch the professional product. I care to
- 12:34Speaker 2: root for something that they are trying to get it right.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I'm rooting for someone who has urgency and passion and
- 12:40Speaker 2: accountability and most of all, just leadership and some, just
- 12:45Speaker 2: some give a damn.
- 12:47Speaker 9: This team has no give a damn. It looks like
- 12:50Speaker 9: they have zero. They give zero you-know-whats. It just looks
- 12:54Speaker 9: like that every night, night after night. Ten games under.
- 12:59Speaker 9: 500 in the worst division in the history of the sport.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Think about if.
- 13:03Speaker 2: This division was just even decent. They'd be 20 games under.
- 13:07Speaker 10: 500.
- 13:08Speaker 2: They'd be one of the worst laughingstock franchises that the
- 13:10Speaker 2: Mariners have ever had.
- 13:11Speaker 5: They'd be 95 losses.
- 13:11Speaker 9: Mm-hmm.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Man, it starts at the top. The manager is a
- 13:19Speaker 3: product of the organization.
- 13:20Speaker 5: I appreciate your passion.
- 13:22Speaker 2: The manager is the top of the organization. I'm sorry.
- 13:26Speaker 2: The manager is a product of the top of the organization.
- 13:29Speaker 2: He's a product of the person who hired him. He
- 13:31Speaker 2: is not equipped. to do what many people want Dan
- 13:35Speaker 2: Wilson to do, fire him up, make change. He has
- 13:38Speaker 2: zero baseball experience. He's a figurehead legend of the franchise
- 13:41Speaker 2: who got hired because he's a friend of the owner,
- 13:45Speaker 2: and the president of baseball operations said, I need a
- 13:47Speaker 2: yes man. Will you please– I'll give you the job
- 13:50Speaker 2: if you do everything the iPad says to do.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Sure, great, let's do it. That's how Scott Service got
- 13:57Speaker 3: the job.
- 13:57Speaker 2: That's how Dan Wilson got the job, and we're 11
- 13:59Speaker 2: years in. And those are your two managers with two
- 14:03Speaker 2: playoff appearances.
- 14:07Speaker 5: You still have passion. You're not at apathy. You know
- 14:12Speaker 5: how I measure things.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Yes. But I do appreciate the fact that you have
- 14:18Speaker 4: passion for this. I live in a house divided during
- 14:21Speaker 4: this series. You do.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Your husband's a native of New England.
- 14:26Speaker 6: Yes, he is.
- 14:27Speaker 3: New Hampshire, right?
- 14:28Speaker 5: New Hampshire?
- 14:29Speaker 9: Sure.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Come on, give me the reference.
- 14:32Speaker 3: New Hampshire?
- 14:33Speaker 5: All right, it's What About Bob.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I was trying to think of a movie that was
- 14:38Speaker 3: up there. I was thinking of Dreyfuss. I was thinking of.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Everything Bill Murray is 100% in my brain all the time.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Bill Murray.
- 14:46Speaker 5: But yes. So we were watching. And as soon as
- 14:51Speaker 5: we had a couple run lead, I was comfortable. I
- 14:54Speaker 5: was fine.
- 14:55Speaker 4: And Michael Daigle, my husband, goes, we're going to win
- 15:00Speaker 4: by one run.
- 15:01Speaker 5: He said it in like the seventh. I was so mad.
- 15:06Speaker 5: But the thing is that I had mad, at least.
- 15:10Speaker 5: I was not, I don't care.
- 15:12Speaker 3: But you knew he was right.
- 15:13Speaker 8: No.
- 15:14Speaker 3: And you're deep in your heart.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Not until he was.
- 15:17Speaker 6: Deep in your heart.
- 15:18Speaker 5: He's never right, Greg.
- 15:19Speaker 4: The husband is never right. But no, it was just,
- 15:23Speaker 4: you know, watching that. We were kind of casually watching it,
- 15:25Speaker 4: eating a bite of food.
- 15:26Speaker 5: Okay.
- 15:27Speaker 4: You know, getting, you know, just like doing things around
- 15:30Speaker 4: the house, but still watching the game.
- 15:33Speaker 5: And man, it sucks when he's right.
- 15:38Speaker 2: The text line is already lighting up with my cousin
- 15:40Speaker 2: Vinnie references. That's making me laugh.
- 15:41Speaker 10: Yay!
- 15:42Speaker 2: Two Utes.
- 15:43Speaker 5: Oh, what is a Ute?
- 15:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Oh, man. All the actors in that movie were amazing.
- 15:50Speaker 3: The trick question scene with, she was great in that.
- 15:53Speaker 5: Oh, gosh.
- 15:55Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Two degrees before top dead center.
- 15:58Speaker 3: That's a trick question.
- 16:00Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 16:01Speaker 5: No, it's a BS question. That's what she said.
- 16:04Speaker 2: That's right. She did say that. That's right. Thank you.
- 16:06Speaker 3: 49451.
- 16:09Speaker 2: I'm sorry to rant, but.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You know what?
- 16:11Speaker 5: Rant away.
- 16:12Speaker 6: I just can't.
- 16:13Speaker 5: The fact that you still have passion.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I'm driving in here and Chuck just, and Chuck and I,
- 16:19Speaker 2: we talk every day at seven o'clock with friends. And
- 16:22Speaker 2: I just fundamentally disagree that Dan Wilson is the cause
- 16:25Speaker 2: of all this. It starts at the very damn top.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I'm talking owner. And then it absolutely is the president
- 16:31Speaker 2: of baseball operations when the baseball operations is broken. Dan
- 16:35Speaker 2: Wilson's job is to be the manager of the baseball
- 16:38Speaker 2: operation that Jerry DePoto sets. Jerry DePoto is the president
- 16:41Speaker 2: of baseball operations, and the baseball operation is broken. The
- 16:45Speaker 2: business operation that the owner and the owners, the 20-some
- 16:49Speaker 2: owners are in.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Charge of is flourishing. The baseball operation's frickin' broken. Let's
- 16:57Speaker 3: talk about... Something a little better.
- 16:59Speaker 2: The Apple Cup. The 114th Apple Cup is Sunday. Jessamyn
- 17:02Speaker 2: McIntyre is going.
- 17:03Speaker 6: To be there.
- 17:04Speaker 5: And I'm going to fight our friend.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler is going to be there. We have
- 17:08Speaker 2: a big announcement. A big announcement up next with Dave
- 17:12Speaker 2: Softy Mahler, UW football in the Apple Cup. You don't
- 17:16Speaker 2: want to miss this. It's coming up live next. Dave
- 17:18Speaker 2: Softy Mahler, the Apple Cup. A big announcement next on
- 17:21Speaker 2: 93.3 KJR FM. I got texts from my son during
- 17:41Speaker 2: the break, and he loved, first of all, I love
- 17:44Speaker 2: the honesty, but he loves the My Cousin Vinny reference.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Jessamyn McIntyre, her Marissa Tomei impression from My Cousin Vinny
- 17:53Speaker 2: is on point.
- 17:54Speaker 5: Well, she's very Brooklyn.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I'm Long Island.
- 17:56Speaker 5: And for those of you texting in and saying New Jersey,
- 17:59Speaker 5: you are off.
- 18:00Speaker 2: You've got to give us the sanitized FCC-approved version of
- 18:03Speaker 2: the deer scene. What? Okay, well, it was.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Very, very not sanitized. Bam! A bleeping bullet rips off
- 18:14Speaker 5: half your head. Your brain's lying there in little bloody pieces.
- 18:19Speaker 5: Now I X you. It's X, by the way. Now
- 18:23Speaker 5: I X you. You give a bleep?
- 18:26Speaker 4: What kind of pants the son of a bleep who
- 18:30Speaker 4: shot you is wearing?
- 18:31Speaker 5: Okay, I bleeped it.
- 18:33Speaker 3: The scene where... The scene when Vinny's going to go.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Hunting with the prosecutor.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 12: Okay.
- 18:42Speaker 5: I kind of memorized it.
- 18:45Speaker 3: That's better than talk about the Mariners.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Let's do that. Let's talk about the Apple Cup. The
- 18:48Speaker 2: 114th Apple Cup is Sunday. What the hell is wrong
- 18:52Speaker 2: with that? Dave Softy Mahler will be there. Dave Softy Mahler,
- 18:56Speaker 2: I'm going to let you announce what was buried in
- 18:59Speaker 2: the Washington football notes yesterday.
- 19:01Speaker 6: Nobody cares. I'm not announcing anything. You know who cares?
- 19:06Speaker 3: My co-host and producer, Jessamyn McIntyre cares.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Yeah, because now I have someone to fight.
- 19:12Speaker 6: Her threshold for giving a damn is very low. Mine
- 19:14Speaker 6: is very high.
- 19:15Speaker 2: All right?
- 19:15Speaker 6: So clearly, I mean, if we're doing my cousin Vinny
- 19:19Speaker 6: quotes on the Tuesday before the Apple Cup, that shows
- 19:22Speaker 6: you how much she really cares about Sunday. This is
- 19:24Speaker 6: what happens when the Mariners are 10 games under 500.
- 19:27Speaker 6: We're quoting my cousin Vinny on a Tuesday before the
- 19:30Speaker 6: Apple Cup. Thanks a lot, guys. You two are going
- 19:32Speaker 6: to be— The defense is wrong.
- 19:36Speaker 5: Oh, so you know it too.
- 19:38Speaker 6: Who doesn't?
- 19:38Speaker 2: You should be back-to-back on Sunday because of why. Why
- 19:42Speaker 2: are you two diametrically opposed Sunday at 1 o'clock at
- 19:45Speaker 2: Husky State?
- 19:45Speaker 6: Because she's a lunatic. That's why. What do you mean why?
- 19:49Speaker 3: She's crazy.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Those that don't know, you Husky fans that don't listen
- 19:52Speaker 2: to the Washington State Cougars football broadcast, Jessamyn McIntyre has
- 19:55Speaker 2: been the sideline announcer for what, 12 years? 14.
- 19:58Speaker 3: 14 years. Excuse me. Mike Leach.
- 20:00Speaker 2: She has great Mike Leach stories, especially when you're in
- 20:02Speaker 2: a bar. She can't tell a lot of them on
- 20:04Speaker 2: the air.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Yeah, some have to be sanitized, Greg.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Yes. But she is going to be opposite of Dave
- 20:11Speaker 2: Softy Mahler on Sunday.
- 20:12Speaker 3: I'm going to let you announce what you're going to
- 20:14Speaker 3: be doing.
- 20:14Speaker 6: I'm not announcing anything.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Okay, I'm announcing.
- 20:16Speaker 6: Nobody cares.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler is the new sideline announcer for Washington
- 20:23Speaker 2: Huskies football. The sideline reporter who they will go to.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Elyse Woodward will toss it from the booth down to
- 20:29Speaker 2: Dave Softy Mahler. Yes.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And then we're all reversed.
- 20:32Speaker 2: I have a.
- 20:32Speaker 6: Woman at home telling me what to do. It may
- 20:34Speaker 6: as well happen on Sunday. It may as well happen
- 20:37Speaker 6: on the weekends, too. It happens when I go in
- 20:39Speaker 6: the office. It happens when I go to a Husky game.
- 20:41Speaker 6: It happens when I come home. It happens when I
- 20:43Speaker 6: go to visit my mom. Why not just continue the
- 20:46Speaker 6: tradition and let Elise tell me what the hell to
- 20:48Speaker 6: do on Saturdays and Sundays, and now Fridays, by the way,
- 20:51Speaker 6: during the Husky football season. So this is just par
- 20:54Speaker 6: for the course for me, Greg.
- 20:55Speaker 3: It just means you're married, by the way.
- 20:57Speaker 2: 100%.
- 20:58Speaker 6: 100%.
- 20:59Speaker 3: 100%. I mean, congratulations.
- 21:01Speaker 2: And how are you going to reign in your husking
- 21:03Speaker 2: them during the game? You're not going to be the
- 21:05Speaker 2: pound on the table.
- 21:06Speaker 3: I'm not. I'm not.
- 21:09Speaker 6: Can't wait for Jet Fish at halftime. We're down by 17.
- 21:11Speaker 6: What the hell are you thinking? Ah, you better fix
- 21:14Speaker 6: this time.
- 21:15Speaker 5: I'm liking that prediction.
- 21:16Speaker 6: I'm looking forward to it, man. It's going to be fun.
- 21:18Speaker 6: You know, it's funny because people always tell me things like,
- 21:20Speaker 6: how can you do pregame and sideline and postgame? I
- 21:23Speaker 6: don't know. I just do it. I mean, I'm there
- 21:24Speaker 6: watching the game. I may as well be working, getting
- 21:26Speaker 6: a couple of bucks for it, right? I don't know.
- 21:28Speaker 6: I mean, it's going to be fun. Elise is going
- 21:30Speaker 6: to do great, you know, between me. The only concern
- 21:32Speaker 6: I've got between me, Cam, and Elise is the three
- 21:35Speaker 6: of us like to sometimes tend to have a little
- 21:37Speaker 6: bit too much fun. If you know what I'm talking about.
- 21:39Speaker 6: What's wrong with that? Especially on the road, by the way.
- 21:42Speaker 6: So if you tune into a road game, Nebraska, Purdue,
- 21:45Speaker 6: Michigan State, USC, Oregon, and maybe we feel like we've
- 21:48Speaker 6: had a little bit too much fun the night before,
- 21:50Speaker 6: we probably did.
- 21:51Speaker 2: All right.
- 21:51Speaker 6: So it's going to be fun. Looking forward to seeing
- 21:53Speaker 6: Jessamyn out there. And Jess, when you're down by 70
- 21:55Speaker 6: points in the fourth quarter, I'll come over and say it.
- 21:57Speaker 4: I heard that we were up at 17 at the halftime.
- 22:00Speaker 4: That's what your prediction was.
- 22:02Speaker 6: Not this game. Not this game.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Not this game.
- 22:04Speaker 6: Hey, the last time, the guy starting, Greg, the guy
- 22:07Speaker 6: starting a quarterback for Wazoo, Caden Pinnock, is a UC
- 22:09Speaker 6: Davis transfer.
- 22:10Speaker 12: Right.
- 22:11Speaker 6: He was here for the opener.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Oh, he was 70 to 40.
- 22:13Speaker 6: No, they lost by 60. They lost by 60, and
- 22:16Speaker 6: he was like 8 of 10 for 50 yards. I mean,
- 22:19Speaker 6: he sat out some of the second half, but. That
- 22:21Speaker 6: poor bastard who came here for week one of the
- 22:24Speaker 6: college football season last year and kicked it off at
- 22:27Speaker 6: Husky Stadium is coming back here doing the same exact
- 22:30Speaker 6: thing with Wazoo in the opener. Now, you know, hopefully
- 22:33Speaker 6: for his sake, he'll have better talent around him than
- 22:35Speaker 6: he had at UC Davis. I don't know how much better,
- 22:38Speaker 6: but he's going to have better talent around him. You
- 22:40Speaker 6: know what? I've been a guy in the last couple, two,
- 22:43Speaker 6: three years, and I really hope that Jessamyn would at
- 22:46Speaker 6: least vouch for this, that I've tried to show a
- 22:49Speaker 6: little sympathy for what's going on over at Goldman.
- 22:51Speaker 5: Oh, eat a bag of bleeps.
- 22:52Speaker 8: He has.
- 22:53Speaker 6: No, he has.
- 22:53Speaker 5: All right, fine.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Screw you. Hope you guys get beat by 1,000 and
- 22:56Speaker 6: cancel your football game. No, he has. How's that sound?
- 22:59Speaker 5: You know what? It is so condescending. I hate that
- 23:02Speaker 5: so much. This is such an apple company.
- 23:04Speaker 6: Okay, so you would rather that you would rather. We
- 23:06Speaker 6: are fighting. Okay, just so we're clear. Just so we're clear. See, Greg,
- 23:11Speaker 6: what happens?
- 23:11Speaker 2: I know.
- 23:11Speaker 6: Just so you're clear. You tried. You would rather hear
- 23:14Speaker 6: from Dick Fane telling you to shut your hole, suck
- 23:16Speaker 6: it up, and go play in the peewee league that
- 23:18Speaker 6: you came from.
- 23:19Speaker 5: Do you think Dick Fane has the bleeps to tell
- 23:22Speaker 5: me that?
- 23:23Speaker 6: Not at all.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Do you really think he does?
- 23:24Speaker 6: At least not in person.
- 23:25Speaker 2: No way.
- 23:26Speaker 5: People are scared of me.
- 23:27Speaker 6: Jess, you realize that everybody in that building is scared
- 23:30Speaker 6: you-know-what-less of you.
- 23:31Speaker 8: Yes.
- 23:31Speaker 6: You know that, right? I know.
- 23:33Speaker 3: It's on purpose.
- 23:33Speaker 6: Every guy in that building, here comes Jess.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I do carry a presence.
- 23:39Speaker 6: I got a text from Mike. He's like, yeah, I
- 23:41Speaker 6: get it, man. I totally get it. You want to
- 23:43Speaker 6: see the scars? They're all on the inside. I've tried
- 23:47Speaker 6: to be a little bit sympathetic to it, but when
- 23:50Speaker 6: things like this band crap that came out a few
- 23:53Speaker 6: days ago, or I don't know, Greg, have you heard
- 23:55Speaker 6: about that?
- 23:56Speaker 2: No, please.
- 23:56Speaker 6: There's people over at Wazoo that are blaming UW for
- 23:59Speaker 6: Wazoo's marching band not coming Sunday. Which is complete nonsense.
- 24:03Speaker 6: I mean, in what world does a visiting, does a
- 24:06Speaker 6: home team tell a visiting team, you can't bring your
- 24:09Speaker 6: band to the game? I mean, that's just ridiculous. Okay,
- 24:11Speaker 6: first of all, in the contract, it says flat out
- 24:14Speaker 6: that the visiting team, whether us going there or them
- 24:18Speaker 6: coming to UW, needs 400 comp tickets, 2,000 tickets for sale,
- 24:22Speaker 6: and they can use them any way they damn well want.
- 24:24Speaker 6: There's been visiting bands parked in the southeast corner. There's
- 24:28Speaker 6: been visiting bands parked in the northeast corner up in
- 24:30Speaker 6: the upper deck. Wazoo just doesn't want to travel. They
- 24:33Speaker 6: don't want to pay for the hotels. They don't want
- 24:35Speaker 6: to pay for the buses. I'm hearing that UW's band
- 24:37Speaker 6: director even reached out to Wazoo's band director asking if
- 24:40Speaker 6: they needed some help and maybe trying to grease the
- 24:42Speaker 6: wheels on some hotel deals in Seattle. No response to that.
- 24:45Speaker 6: So they're not bringing their band. I think it sucks.
- 24:48Speaker 6: I think it's sad. I think marching bands are a
- 24:49Speaker 6: great distinction between college football and pro football. That's kind
- 24:54Speaker 6: of going away. And the fact that Wazoo's not bringing
- 24:56Speaker 6: their band because they can't afford to pay them or
- 24:59Speaker 6: travel them, I think stinks, but don't go blaming UW
- 25:03Speaker 6: for that. That's not our problem.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Well, you know, one of the things that I would
- 25:06Speaker 4: say that is so fundamental to college sports is the
- 25:10Speaker 4: way that the bands communicate with each other and do
- 25:12Speaker 4: things like we've seen. I believe it was UW's band
- 25:17Speaker 4: that got into an accident on their. Right.
- 25:19Speaker 6: Yes, and you guys played the Husky marching right, correct.
- 25:22Speaker 6: And Wazoo played the Husky song. A thousand percent.
- 25:24Speaker 13: Yes.
- 25:25Speaker 5: It was great.
- 25:25Speaker 4: It's a great camaraderie, I think, between bands, and so
- 25:29Speaker 4: it is sad that they won't be there.
- 25:31Speaker 6: To not see it happen is sad. I mean, I've
- 25:35Speaker 6: been telling people, Greg, and I don't know what this
- 25:37Speaker 6: will actually look like on game day, that this might
- 25:39Speaker 6: be the lightest-looking Cougar crowd at an Apple Cup in
- 25:43Speaker 6: Seattle in a long time. Of those 2,000 tickets that
- 25:48Speaker 6: Wazoo has for sale, I heard this morning they've sold
- 25:51Speaker 6: less than 600 of them, right? Which means of the
- 25:55Speaker 6: 2,400 tickets Wazoo has access to as part of the contract,
- 25:59Speaker 6: it's less than 1,000 going out the door right now,
- 26:02Speaker 6: either comp or sold. A lot of tickets going back
- 26:06Speaker 6: to UW. So, yeah, I mean, I think the future
- 26:08Speaker 6: of this rivalry is very much in the air, very
- 26:11Speaker 6: much in the air. I mean, every time you hear
- 26:13Speaker 6: from Pat Chun or Jed Fish on the topic, there's
- 26:16Speaker 6: always a little bit of a caveat, right? Like, yeah,
- 26:18Speaker 6: we'd like to play the game. We'd like to see
- 26:20Speaker 6: it continue, but dot, dot, dot, right? Jetfish even mentioned
- 26:24Speaker 6: that yesterday. Like to see it continue, but at some point,
- 26:27Speaker 6: we're not going to have much control over our scheduling.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Pat Shun.
- 26:31Speaker 6: With a lease yesterday. We'd like to see it. But
- 26:33Speaker 6: at some point, we've got to do what's best for UW.
- 26:35Speaker 6: So there's always a but.
- 26:36Speaker 2: So where it stands right now, the 114th Apple Cup
- 26:39Speaker 2: is Sunday, and then there's no scheduled games beyond this one.
- 26:41Speaker 6: Two more years. Two more years. Next year, Pullman, and
- 26:44Speaker 6: then 28 in Seattle. There's nothing after 28.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Rick Neuheisel this morning on Chuck's show said he thinks
- 26:50Speaker 2: that it's going to be a hiatus until 2031 or
- 26:53Speaker 2: so when the ACC television contract ends, and he thinks
- 26:56Speaker 2: there's going to be a reordering of college football that's
- 26:58Speaker 2: going to get Washington and Washington State back together.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Do you have anything from people you've heard on Montlake that,
- 27:04Speaker 3: I mean, they're not going to tell you that. They're
- 27:06Speaker 3: a Big Ten or bust.
- 27:07Speaker 2: But is there any possibility of Washington and Washington State
- 27:10Speaker 2: being back in a conference together?
- 27:12Speaker 6: Probably not. I would say that's a long shot. I
- 27:15Speaker 6: don't know how that would fly. I mean, you're talking about, hey,
- 27:18Speaker 6: it'd be great for UW to have a game that's
- 27:21Speaker 6: 300 miles away, but it's just another road game to
- 27:24Speaker 6: the West Coast that some poor bastard on the East
- 27:26Speaker 6: Coast has to make, right? Or in the Midwest.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:28Speaker 6: The TV contract, TV market is so small. I mean, look,
- 27:32Speaker 6: we all know what Pullman is. I mean, it's just,
- 27:35Speaker 6: come on. I mean, it's one of the smaller TV
- 27:37Speaker 6: markets in college football. So, you know, why do you
- 27:40Speaker 6: think UW and USC and Washington and, you know, Oregon
- 27:43Speaker 6: was attractive to the Big Ten? Because of the bigger
- 27:47Speaker 6: TV markets, the metropolitan markets. You know, I mean, Oregon's Portland, Seattle. L.A.?
- 27:52Speaker 6: I mean, come on, right?
- 27:53Speaker 5: Oregon is Eugene, okay? It is the Pullman of.
- 27:56Speaker 6: Well, okay, that's like saying that, you know, Wazoo is,
- 27:59Speaker 6: you know, Seattle. I mean, give me a break.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Do you know how many Seattle listeners and viewers... graduated
- 28:06Speaker 4: from Washington State and live.
- 28:07Speaker 6: Yes, I can't help you. I can't help you.
- 28:09Speaker 3: I never want you to help me.
- 28:11Speaker 6: I hate you.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I feel like Mills Lane. I feel like Mills Lane.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I need to be in a bow tie, light blue shirt,
- 28:17Speaker 2: stepping in between.
- 28:17Speaker 6: We all know why it was a tractor to the
- 28:19Speaker 6: Big Ten. And anybody who fights that, you know, just
- 28:21Speaker 6: stop sniffing. Okay.
- 28:22Speaker 5: Okay.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Just to be fair, you are correct. They only needed
- 28:26Speaker 4: one school from each state to get the market because,
- 28:31Speaker 4: you know, no, Eugene is not Portland and Pullman is
- 28:34Speaker 4: not Seattle.
- 28:35Speaker 6: Jess, you're playing in a high school stadium in a
- 28:37Speaker 6: high school city. Can we move on already? Please? Oh,
- 28:40Speaker 6: my God. Are we really arguing about this? Greg, get
- 28:43Speaker 6: control of your show. I told you.
- 28:45Speaker 5: I was actually saying a nice thing.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I feel like Mills left control.
- 28:48Speaker 2: In a heavyweight title fight, and I'm losing control of
- 28:51Speaker 2: the bout. Okay, so let me– something you asked was
- 28:55Speaker 2: interesting to me yesterday from a football perspective. You asked
- 28:58Speaker 2: Jed Fish during his press conference on Montlake yesterday– about
- 29:02Speaker 2: NFL players and the fact that they're now allowed by
- 29:05Speaker 2: a court order to come back to play football, and
- 29:07Speaker 2: you ask if the Huskies would take any NFL players
- 29:09Speaker 2: who were in NFL training camps, what did Jet Fish
- 29:11Speaker 2: tell you?
- 29:13Speaker 6: He said, we're not doing that. We're not doing that.
- 29:16Speaker 6: And some people would say, well, that's because of the
- 29:18Speaker 6: Big Ten penalties that come along with grabbing an NFL player. Well,
- 29:21Speaker 6: I think the SEC has already learned that if you
- 29:24Speaker 6: go sign a guy, you can just go find a
- 29:26Speaker 6: team-friendly judge to allow that guy to play, and those
- 29:29Speaker 6: penalties don't mean jack squat, right? So, yeah, I mean,
- 29:33Speaker 6: I think what Jetfish is really concerned about is guys
- 29:35Speaker 6: that are putting in the effort in fall camp and
- 29:37Speaker 6: then all of a sudden losing their gig come the
- 29:39Speaker 6: first week of the year. Because you've got to wait
- 29:41Speaker 6: until the training camp cuts come down, right? Which is
- 29:43Speaker 6: the Sunday after training camp or after the preseason is over.
- 29:48Speaker 6: There's no two cuts anymore, as you know, Greg. Like
- 29:50Speaker 6: there used to be back in the day going from
- 29:52Speaker 6: 90 to 75 to 53. So it's not like you
- 29:55Speaker 6: have access to guys in the middle of August that
- 29:57Speaker 6: come available to at training camp, and how do you
- 30:00Speaker 6: go to a guy who's been busting his ass, busting
- 30:02Speaker 6: his rump in training camp, and tell him, oh, by
- 30:05Speaker 6: the way, you're not starting because Bigfoot McGee's 25 years old,
- 30:09Speaker 6: he's coming to take your gig, and then all that
- 30:11Speaker 6: guy's buddies that are pissed off that their friends are
- 30:13Speaker 6: getting benched, they start revolting. So I think it really
- 30:17Speaker 6: is a sad situation that there's even one college team
- 30:20Speaker 6: that's allowing this to happen. It's no surprise that it's
- 30:23Speaker 6: LSU and that greaseball Lane Kiffin that's leading the charge
- 30:26Speaker 6: in this regard. So Jed Fish did say yesterday that
- 30:29Speaker 6: he just wants no part of that.
- 30:31Speaker 2: So we'll see. Well, good for him.
- 30:33Speaker 3: I appreciate him doing that.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I agree. You've been out there a few times. What
- 30:39Speaker 2: are you looking forward to and what don't you know
- 30:41Speaker 2: yet about the Huskies on Sunday?
- 30:43Speaker 6: Well, I mean, it's all hype with the freshman until
- 30:46Speaker 6: we see him play, right? I mean, it's nice to
- 30:48Speaker 6: talk about Ramzak Fruin, and you can't say Ramzak Fruin
- 30:51Speaker 6: without saying Ramzak Fruin. The defensive end from Bethel, he's 18,
- 30:55Speaker 6: he's going to start. Derek Coleman, Broussard, defensive tackle from Kennedy,
- 31:00Speaker 6: he's 18, he's going to start. Cody Green, left tackle
- 31:02Speaker 6: from Matterday via Eastside Catholic, he's 18, he's going to start.
- 31:06Speaker 6: All this sounds great, right? Like, God, those guys must
- 31:08Speaker 6: be pretty good if they're starting as true freshmen, but
- 31:11Speaker 6: I don't remember the last time Washington started a true freshman, Greg,
- 31:14Speaker 6: on the offensive or defensive line. in the opener. Like,
- 31:18Speaker 6: we saw Trey Adams play as a true freshman. We
- 31:20Speaker 6: saw Nick Harris. I think you were covering UW for
- 31:22Speaker 6: the Peach Bowl against Alabama. Back in the day, he
- 31:25Speaker 6: was playing 270 pounds starting at center, but he wasn't
- 31:27Speaker 6: starting the opener. He didn't win that job out of
- 31:30Speaker 6: fall camp, for crying out loud. Brailsford, I think, was
- 31:33Speaker 6: a redshirt. Rosenhosen, that's Roger Rosengarten, by the way, I
- 31:37Speaker 6: think he was a redshirt, too, when he started at
- 31:39Speaker 6: right tackle for Kalen and those guys a couple years ago.
- 31:42Speaker 6: But pure freshman who last year... Nine months ago. Hell,
- 31:47Speaker 6: we're talking nine months ago they were in high school.
- 31:49Speaker 6: Six months ago they were in high school. Running around
- 31:52Speaker 6: the hallways of Bethel and Kennedy Catholic and Burien. And
- 31:57Speaker 6: now they're going to go play in the Apple Cup
- 31:59Speaker 6: on Sunday. So I'm really curious to see how those
- 32:02Speaker 6: three guys do. I think that the landing zones for
- 32:04Speaker 6: them are pretty important. I just wonder if they were
- 32:07Speaker 6: opening against Ohio State. or in Iowa, or in Indiana,
- 32:11Speaker 6: or in Oregon, would those guys be starting the opener?
- 32:15Speaker 6: They've got Eastern, they've got Utah State, they've got Wazoo,
- 32:18Speaker 6: so they have a little bit of a softer landing.
- 32:20Speaker 6: But that's obviously something to keep an eye on for sure.
- 32:23Speaker 6: And then, you know, the running back room. I mean,
- 32:25Speaker 6: we were talking about this, you know, probably back in November,
- 32:28Speaker 6: that if you forecasted ahead to next September, you'd think,
- 32:32Speaker 6: all right, we're going to have Jordan Washington, we're going
- 32:34Speaker 6: to have Adam Muhammad, and those guys are gone. I mean,
- 32:36Speaker 6: Washington's hurt, and Adam Muhammad plays for California. So you've
- 32:39Speaker 6: got three guys in Quade Carr and Jaden Lamar and
- 32:42Speaker 6: Trey Cooley who haven't done a lot. Is it going
- 32:45Speaker 6: to be a running back by committee? Does Jed Fish
- 32:48Speaker 6: want to use these three games to figure out which
- 32:50Speaker 6: running back is the best and then start that guy
- 32:53Speaker 6: in earnest against Minnesota and then USC in week number five?
- 32:56Speaker 6: So all of that. I mean, the wide receiver spot, right?
- 32:59Speaker 6: I mean, there's no Denzel Boston right now. There's no
- 33:02Speaker 6: Roma Dunzey. There's no McMillan. There's no Jalen Polk. Is
- 33:05Speaker 6: Desmond Roebuck going to be that guy? Is Christian Moss,
- 33:08Speaker 6: the transfer from Kennesaw State, going to be that guy?
- 33:11Speaker 6: Rasheed Williams going to be that guy? Those are, to me,
- 33:14Speaker 6: where all the questions are. And there's questions in the secondary.
- 33:17Speaker 6: I could be here all day. I mean, you lost
- 33:18Speaker 6: Takario Davis and Ephesians Brysock. How good are the guys
- 33:21Speaker 6: taking over? I don't know. We'll find out starting Sunday.
- 33:24Speaker 2: I have to ask you, Dave Softy Mahler, the new
- 33:27Speaker 2: sideline reporter for Husky Broadcast, as Elyse Woodward goes from
- 33:30Speaker 2: the sideline up to the booth to be the play-by-play
- 33:32Speaker 2: replacing Tony Castricone, who's now with Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I
- 33:35Speaker 2: have to ask you, as you're walking off the field
- 33:37Speaker 2: Sunday at halftime trying to catch up to Jed Fish,
- 33:41Speaker 2: and they go, Elyse Woodward, let's go down to Dave
- 33:43Speaker 2: Softy Mahler.
- 33:44Speaker 3: He's with Coach Jed Fish.
- 33:46Speaker 2: And the Cougs are up 14-3. What are you going
- 33:49Speaker 2: to ask Jed Fish, and how are you going to
- 33:51Speaker 2: ask it?
- 33:52Speaker 6: Jed, your thoughts on half number one?
- 33:55Speaker 5: Come on, man.
- 33:57Speaker 6: I could pull a Sam Meyer when he interviewed Keith Gilbertson.
- 34:01Speaker 6: Looks like there's no effort out there, coach. Who made
- 34:03Speaker 6: you coach?
- 34:05Speaker 5: Oh, we have that as a drop.
- 34:07Speaker 6: Oh, we absolutely have that. You know what? I think
- 34:10Speaker 6: there's a chance if they're down 14-0 at halftime, we
- 34:12Speaker 6: might just skip it. We might just skip it. I
- 34:15Speaker 6: was like, Chad, you know.
- 34:17Speaker 5: Hey, man, I used to sprint.
- 34:18Speaker 6: You don't want to do it? That's fine by us.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Yeah, you got to wear tennis shoes. Jessamyn sprints to
- 34:23Speaker 3: get these coaches.
- 34:24Speaker 6: It's a good thing my wife works for Brooks Running,
- 34:26Speaker 6: by the way. Oh, my gosh.
- 34:27Speaker 5: I have the best pair of Brooks, too, right now.
- 34:29Speaker 6: If there's one thing I don't worry about, it's running shoes,
- 34:32Speaker 6: by the way. I'm training for a marathon, by the way.
- 34:36Speaker 6: I've been training my entire life, but I am training.
- 34:40Speaker 3: We will be tuning in Sunday.
- 34:41Speaker 6: Trying to get from the toilet to the bedroom as
- 34:43Speaker 6: fast as possible.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:45Speaker 8: TMI.
- 34:45Speaker 4: TMI.
- 34:45Speaker 5: Opposite direction, actually.
- 34:48Speaker 6: Now you don't like it. Now you got a problem
- 34:50Speaker 6: with the topic of conversation? Is that what's going on here? See,
- 34:53Speaker 6: I got no control.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Bedrooms and bathrooms.
- 34:55Speaker 2: We will be listening. Let the women decide. We will
- 34:56Speaker 2: be listening.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Sunday to our new sideline reporter on the Husky.
- 34:59Speaker 6: Are you going, by the way, Greg, to the game?
- 35:01Speaker 3: I'm supposed to be at Seahawks, but I want to go.
- 35:03Speaker 3: I got a Seahawks day. It's a Tuesday, Wednesday, whatever
- 35:06Speaker 3: it is.
- 35:07Speaker 6: I got a pair of tickets for the game. If
- 35:09Speaker 6: you want to give them away right now to somebody
- 35:10Speaker 6: on your show or next segment or whatever, feel free.
- 35:13Speaker 6: A pair of tickets on us for the Apple Cup
- 35:14Speaker 6: on Sunday.
- 35:15Speaker 3: You got it.
- 35:17Speaker 6: Just get me the name for the will call, and
- 35:19Speaker 6: we'll take.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Care of it.
- 35:20Speaker 14: Done.
- 35:21Speaker 5: Name and email?
- 35:22Speaker 2: Thank you, sir.
- 35:22Speaker 6: Just first and last name.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Done.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Okay. Someone better be a Coug fan.
- 35:28Speaker 6: You know what? I don't even care.
- 35:29Speaker 2: All right?
- 35:29Speaker 6: If you want to put two extra Cougar fans in
- 35:31Speaker 6: the building, that's fine. Nobody will notice anyway.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Thank you, sir. I'll hear you later today. Dave Softy-Muller
- 35:37Speaker 2: will be on at 3.
- 35:38Speaker 3: That's all he can be.
- 35:40Speaker 2: He's the new sideline reporter for Husky Football Broadcast here
- 35:43Speaker 2: on the home of Husky's 93.3 KJR FM, the 114th
- 35:47Speaker 2: Apple Cup. Sunday, 1 p.m. from Husky Stadium, Jessamyn McIntyre
- 35:50Speaker 2: will be on the Washington State Cougars sideline as a
- 35:53Speaker 2: sideline reporter.
- 35:53Speaker 5: I think that only one of us is going to
- 35:55Speaker 5: come out alive.
- 35:56Speaker 3: It sounds like it. It's going to be a steel
- 35:58Speaker 3: cage match at the field before the kickoff. Two tickets
- 36:01Speaker 3: to the Apple Cup.
- 36:02Speaker 2: To the 114th Apple Cup, go to the Tacoma Dodge
- 36:05Speaker 2: text line 49451 and tell us what Dave Softy Mahler's
- 36:10Speaker 2: new role is.
- 36:11Speaker 3: First one to do it. Pretty easy.
- 36:13Speaker 2: You get two tickets to the Apple Cup. We'll leave
- 36:15Speaker 2: them at Will Call with you for you on Sunday.
- 36:17Speaker 5: First and last name.
- 36:18Speaker 3: First and last name in hometown. We'll get you the ticket.
- 36:21Speaker 5: And what movie he referenced.
- 36:24Speaker 3: Oh, that's a good one.
- 36:25Speaker 5: Yeah, because he referenced a different one.
- 36:27Speaker 6: He did.
- 36:28Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Oh, now you've just thinned the herd. Well, I mean, yeah.
- 36:32Speaker 9: Okay.
- 36:32Speaker 5: You've got to listen tight.
- 36:33Speaker 2: All right, Jessamyn's up in the stakes. 49451, the Commodage
- 36:37Speaker 2: text line. Dave Softey, what job he's going to have
- 36:40Speaker 2: on Sunday, his new role for Husky broadcast here on KJR,
- 36:43Speaker 2: and what movie he referenced just now in our interview
- 36:47Speaker 2: to talk about that. I think you've just really thinned
- 36:49Speaker 2: the herd there. Are we going to get any? 49451,
- 36:52Speaker 2: the Commodage text line. When we come back, we'll announce
- 36:55Speaker 2: the winner of two tickets to the 114th Apple Cup,
- 36:57Speaker 2: and we'll talk about the Seahawks practice squad, which has
- 37:00Speaker 2: all 17 members who are on that practiced or were
- 37:03Speaker 2: on the team during training camp. 11 o'clock, Jason Myers,
- 37:06Speaker 2: their problem with the kicking game for the Super Bowl champions.
- 37:08Speaker 2: I talked to Jason Myers in Kansas City. You'll hear
- 37:10Speaker 2: from him at 11. All that coming up on 93.3 KJRFM.

- 43:48Speaker 3: So Chris Rosenhausen.

- 44:11Speaker 2: of Tony Castricone as the new play-by-play announcer. Elise's first
- 44:14Speaker 2: game as the full-time play-by-play announcer.
- 44:16Speaker 5: She's the best, man.
- 44:17Speaker 3: That's... Really cool for her. Now cool for Dave Softy Mahler.
- 44:20Speaker 3: And it is going to be a challenge for him
- 44:23Speaker 3: to rein in some of his partisanship, shall I say.
- 44:27Speaker 2: I mean, I know it's a Husky broadcast, but still,
- 44:29Speaker 2: he's got to rein it in. He's going to jump
- 44:32Speaker 2: Jed Fish at halftime if they're trailing in any game,
- 44:34Speaker 2: let alone the Apple Cup? If they're losing Sunday at halftime,
- 44:37Speaker 2: how's he going to handle that?
- 44:38Speaker 5: What the hell's going on, coach? You know what?
- 44:43Speaker 4: I think he's pretty professional when it comes to those things,
- 44:45Speaker 4: which is very hard for me to say.
- 44:48Speaker 5: It sucks.
- 44:50Speaker 4: But no, he's going to be fine. And I will
- 44:54Speaker 4: be the same. And we will see which one of
- 44:57Speaker 4: us comes out alive.
- 45:00Speaker 2: For the Seahawks, the team I cover for the News Tribune,
- 45:02Speaker 2: it's somewhat of an off week. We're yielding the stage
- 45:05Speaker 2: to the 114th Apple Cup, the Cougs and the Dogs
- 45:08Speaker 2: on Sunday. That's on NBC television.
- 45:11Speaker 3: At 1 o'clock.
- 45:11Speaker 2: If you wonder why it's on a Sunday of Labor
- 45:13Speaker 2: Day weekend, I got a standalone national TV game the
- 45:15Speaker 2: athletic directors agreed to move it toward. instead of Saturday.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Super fun.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Sunday at 1 o'clock, right here on 93.3 KJRFM, Huskies
- 45:24Speaker 2: dogs at Husky Stadium. The Seahawks have been off. They
- 45:29Speaker 2: were off yesterday. They're off today. They're off tomorrow. There's
- 45:31Speaker 2: a three-day mandatory by the collective bargaining agreement in the
- 45:35Speaker 2: NFL that they get three days off at the end
- 45:37Speaker 2: of the preseason. Usually that's over a Labor Day weekend,
- 45:41Speaker 2: but the way the Seahawks schedule fell is their Labor
- 45:44Speaker 2: Day weekend is a practice weekend, full preparing for the Patriots'
- 45:47Speaker 2: Game on Wednesday, one week from tomorrow at Lumen Field.
- 45:51Speaker 2: So Saturday, Sunday, Monday of Labor Day weekend for them
- 45:53Speaker 2: will be a full practice day. When Softee asked if
- 45:56Speaker 2: I'm going to be at the Apple Cup, I would be,
- 45:58Speaker 2: except that I'm supposed to be at a full practice,
- 46:00Speaker 2: like a Wednesday type of a day before a game.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Yeah, what was Pete Carroll's thing that he always said? Like, well,
- 46:06Speaker 4: today is tomorrow, yesterday is never... Yes.
- 46:11Speaker 3: That's what's going to be this weekend. That's what's going
- 46:12Speaker 3: to be this weekend.
- 46:13Speaker 4: Yeah, well, a Wednesday game is definitely something that we
- 46:17Speaker 4: haven't experienced.
- 46:18Speaker 2: First time ever, the Seahawks are playing on a Wednesday,
- 46:20Speaker 2: and that's the NFL kickoff game.
- 46:23Speaker 3: They set their.
- 46:25Speaker 2: practice squad yesterday of 17 players. They get 17 because
- 46:28Speaker 2: Federico Mirage is the center guard from Puerto Rico. He's
- 46:31Speaker 2: part of the NFL international program. And as long as
- 46:34Speaker 2: the Seahawks have him on the roster, he counts as
- 46:37Speaker 2: an international exempt player. So they have instead of 16 players,
- 46:40Speaker 2: 17 on the practice squad, which John Schneider and Mike
- 46:43Speaker 2: McDonald call it 70 players, 53 plus 17.
- 46:47Speaker 3: They've relaxed.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Why does the practice squad matter? We talk about it
- 46:50Speaker 2: so much. It used to be They were a taxi squad,
- 46:53Speaker 2: and you rarely brought guys up. But then a few
- 46:55Speaker 2: years ago, the league liberalized.
- 46:57Speaker 3: I say that.
- 46:59Speaker 2: My speech therapist wife would kill me for how I
- 47:02Speaker 2: enunciated that. They changed the rules to make it much
- 47:04Speaker 2: easier for practice squad players to play. You can play
- 47:07Speaker 2: up to three games up in the practice squad back down,
- 47:11Speaker 2: up the practice squad back down three different times before
- 47:13Speaker 2: you then have to offer them a contract on the
- 47:15Speaker 2: 53 roster or let them have the opportunity to.
- 47:18Speaker 3: Be a free agent.
- 47:19Speaker 2: So that's why Trevon Diggs agreed to do what he did,
- 47:22Speaker 2: which is go to the practice squad as an unrestricted
- 47:24Speaker 2: free agent. The Seahawks were hoping to do the same
- 47:27Speaker 2: thing with Cody White, Noah Igbenogany, and DeAnthony Bell, the
- 47:32Speaker 2: veteran safety who was on the starting defense for a
- 47:34Speaker 2: lot of training camp, but they did not sign to
- 47:36Speaker 2: the practice squad, at least not yet. I will say
- 47:39Speaker 2: it's also a very initial practice squad that will change
- 47:41Speaker 2: and churn a thousand times a season, including a couple
- 47:44Speaker 2: times before the actual first game in eight days. Cody White,
- 47:48Speaker 2: in fact— You can see that he thought he was
- 47:50Speaker 2: roadblocked here by Montori Foster Jr., the surprise of training
- 47:54Speaker 2: camp who made the team, and others, because Cody White chose,
- 47:58Speaker 2: instead of signing with the Seahawks practice squad, which he's
- 48:00Speaker 2: been here for four years now, he went to the
- 48:02Speaker 2: offensive coordinator who got him his first NFL touchdown last season,
- 48:06Speaker 2: Clint Kubiak. He's now signing with the Raiders practice squad,
- 48:09Speaker 2: a like for like, but Cody White chooses the Raiders
- 48:12Speaker 2: practice squad, not the active roster, to sign on with
- 48:15Speaker 2: Clint Kubiak again. So Cody White's not coming back No
- 48:18Speaker 2: league monogamy for now is not coming back, neither is
- 48:20Speaker 2: D'Anthony Bell, who once chose the Seahawks for less money
- 48:23Speaker 2: than to stay with his Cleveland Browns. So what's left
- 48:27Speaker 2: is Trevon Diggs is the headliner on the practice squad,
- 48:30Speaker 2: and he's getting ramped up to play in Week 1.
- 48:32Speaker 2: I'd be very surprised if he's not on the starting
- 48:34Speaker 2: defense as the third cornerback right now. They also traded
- 48:37Speaker 2: for Avery Smith with the Chargers on Sunday. He's going
- 48:40Speaker 2: to get a crack at playing a third-corner nickel on
- 48:42Speaker 2: the inside when Witherspoon is outside. How much he's adept
- 48:45Speaker 2: at playing outside will say how much, if Smith's on
- 48:48Speaker 2: the field, that Witherspoon would play inside. McDonald would much
- 48:51Speaker 2: rather have Witherspoon play inside as a nickel. He infects
- 48:53Speaker 2: the game more. He can blitz him better from inside.
- 48:56Speaker 2: It's just a shorter route to the quarterback. They would
- 48:58Speaker 2: rather have a third corner who is adept at outside,
- 49:02Speaker 2: and that's why Diggs is the attraction because he's played
- 49:04Speaker 2: outside his entire life. He was an all-pro with the
- 49:07Speaker 2: Cowboys in 21 being an outside corner. He has played
- 49:10Speaker 2: some nickel, but they signed him to be an outside
- 49:12Speaker 2: corner so they can move Witherspoon inside. And I think
- 49:15Speaker 2: that's where it's headed. We'll see if he's ready to
- 49:17Speaker 2: do it physically after not being in pads for seven months.
- 49:20Speaker 2: if he's ready to do it by the opener who
- 49:22Speaker 2: else is on the practice squad well aj finley who
- 49:26Speaker 2: come back from reconstructive knee surgery came back with a
- 49:29Speaker 2: splash in the fan fest game in early august he's
- 49:32Speaker 2: on the practice squad veteran safety rodney thomas who missed
- 49:35Speaker 2: a A week or so of training camp needed hand surgery.
- 49:37Speaker 2: A former Indianapolis Colts starting safety. Ronnie Thomas is on
- 49:41Speaker 2: the practice squad. Jakardia Wright, the star of the preseason
- 49:45Speaker 2: because he's got so many carries and chances. He's on
- 49:47Speaker 2: the practice squad. Offensive tackle Logan Brown. And then the
- 49:50Speaker 2: four rookie draft picks that they cut or waived on
- 49:55Speaker 2: Sunday are all signed back to the practice squad. Seventh-round
- 49:57Speaker 2: picks Michael Dansby and Andre Fuller. The corners, the nose tackle,
- 50:01Speaker 2: seventh-round pick Devin Eastern. And the sixth round pick, Emmanuel
- 50:04Speaker 2: Henderson Jr., a wide receiver and a punt gunner. Julian Hicks,
- 50:08Speaker 2: who was in training camp as a wide receiver, is
- 50:10Speaker 2: on the practice squad. So is Maxson Hook, who got
- 50:12Speaker 2: some times with the ones as a backup safety at
- 50:15Speaker 2: times when Julian Love was getting a break. Undrafted rookie
- 50:18Speaker 2: linebacker Marvin Jones. Undrafted rookie defensive at Aiden Hubbard, who
- 50:22Speaker 2: they moved from linebacker to defensive end during camp. We
- 50:25Speaker 2: had him on the show a couple weeks ago from Northwestern.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Vellis Jones Jr., the running back who was actually on
- 50:31Speaker 2: the practice squad last season. In fact, active for the
- 50:34Speaker 2: Super Bowl. Bellis Jones Jr. is on the practice squad.
- 50:37Speaker 2: So is Ricky White III, the draft pick wide receiver
- 50:39Speaker 2: from last year, the pick from last year as a
- 50:43Speaker 2: rookie in 2025 from UNLV. And then undrafted rookie defensive
- 50:46Speaker 2: tackle Uso Sayamalo and Federico Marenges, so we can have
- 50:51Speaker 2: the exemption and have an extra player, the international offensive
- 50:53Speaker 2: lineman from Puerto Rico. Remember, tonight is the fourth and
- 50:56Speaker 2: final episode of Hard Knocks.
- 50:58Speaker 3: They will probably have Uso.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Sayamalo getting told he's not on the team, but come
- 51:02Speaker 2: back to the practice squad. They will absolutely have Montori
- 51:05Speaker 2: Foster Jr., the surprise. They made him a national star
- 51:09Speaker 2: in the last episode. They followed him around on Sunday
- 51:12Speaker 2: when he got the word that he made the team.
- 51:13Speaker 2: You'll see that tonight on the Hard Knocks episode. Plus
- 51:16Speaker 2: more on Terryon Arnold, who signed officially on Saturday, was
- 51:20Speaker 2: put on the exempt list on Sunday. He is exempt
- 51:23Speaker 2: from the roster, but in the building and able to
- 51:25Speaker 2: attend meetings and train. Do the Seahawks have a problem
- 51:29Speaker 2: at kicker? And that would be a big problem for
- 51:31Speaker 2: a team that has a great defense and play low-scoring games.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Jason Myers and I talked in Kansas City after he
- 51:37Speaker 2: missed the game-winning kick, after he missed an extra point,
- 51:40Speaker 2: after he missed five of his eight kicks in the preseason.
- 51:42Speaker 2: You'll hear from Jason Myers and Coach Mike McDonald about
- 51:45Speaker 2: him next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KKRFM
- 52:23Speaker 1: Sports Headlines.
- 52:24Speaker 2: Good morning. Headlines are brought to you by Frostbrood, Coors Light,
- 52:27Speaker 2: Choose Chill. Thanks for being with us on September the 1st.
- 52:31Speaker 2: The Mariners, 10 games under. 500 because they can't play
- 52:36Speaker 2: Pony League Fundamentals. Julio Rodriguez in no doubles defense turns
- 52:40Speaker 2: it into a triple. By going for a ball, he
- 52:43Speaker 2: should have just played for a single. Manager Dan Wilson
- 52:46Speaker 2: loads the bases intentionally with a pitcher who hadn't pitched
- 52:50Speaker 2: in two.
- 52:51Speaker 3: And a half months.
- 52:54Speaker 2: I mean, if I just came in and said this happened,
- 52:56Speaker 2: you'd go, no, quit making stuff up.
- 52:58Speaker 5: Did that really?
- 52:59Speaker 6: That all happened.
- 53:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:00Speaker 2: That's how they lost a game they led 8-5. They
- 53:03Speaker 2: lost 9-8 in extra innings at Fenway Park in Boston.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Game two of the series today. Brian Wu starting on
- 53:07Speaker 2: the road where he never wins. Mariners are 10 games under.
- 53:11Speaker 1: 500.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Does it matter that they're six games back at this point?
- 53:15Speaker 3: They're a ways back. They're a long way back.
- 53:18Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 53:20Speaker 2: I mean, just.
- 53:21Speaker 3: We got into a My Cousin Vinny talk about the Mariners.
- 53:24Speaker 2: It was so bad at the beginning of the show.
- 53:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, and this is kind of what made
- 53:28Speaker 5: it happen.
- 53:32Speaker 2: Tags that one to line drive center field.
- 53:34Speaker 9: Closing out and misplayed by Rodriguez all the way.
- 53:38Speaker 3: To the fence and center.
- 53:41Speaker 2: All the way to third is Roman Anthony standing.
- 53:44Speaker 8: On the.
- 53:46Speaker 2: Bag. Dave O'Brien and Nesson, New England Sports Network. And
- 53:49Speaker 2: then the Red Sox call of the gift from Julio
- 53:52Speaker 2: Rodriguez that ended up tying the game for Boston against
- 53:56Speaker 2: closer Andres Munoz who was thrown 102, 103 miles an
- 53:58Speaker 2: hour and probably would not have given up a triple.
- 54:02Speaker 3: Otherwise, of course he wouldn't have.
- 54:05Speaker 2: September 1 means expanded baseball rosters, so the Mariners are
- 54:09Speaker 2: calling up Las Montes. That should solve everything. Outfitter selected
- 54:13Speaker 2: from AAA Tacoma. He should be in right field, and
- 54:17Speaker 2: they should move Robles into center field, and Julio Rodriguez
- 54:20Speaker 2: should sit the bench and watch.
- 54:21Speaker 3: The rest of the Fenway Park series. That won't happen.
- 54:24Speaker 2: Hobie Milner, a left-hander from the Tacoma Rainiers, also selected.
- 54:29Speaker 2: Connor Joe, the outfitter with two names, two first names,
- 54:32Speaker 2: designated for assignment. Nolan Kingham from the minor league system,
- 54:36Speaker 2: designated for assignment, a right-handed reliever. Seahawks set their practice squad,
- 54:39Speaker 2: 17 men. All of them were in training camp this summer.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Trevon Diggs, the former All-Pro with the Dallas Cowboys. The
- 54:45Speaker 2: cornerback is on it to ramp up and continue his
- 54:48Speaker 2: acclimation of not playing from seven months until last week.
- 54:51Speaker 2: All four of the rookie draft picks the Seahawks had
- 54:54Speaker 2: waived on Sunday are on it.
- 54:56Speaker 3: Noticeably not on it.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Cody White, the Anthony Bell, and Noah Igbenogany, the veterans
- 55:01Speaker 2: they were hoping to get back from the practice squad.
- 55:02Speaker 2: Cody White, in fact, signed with Clint Kubiak in the
- 55:05Speaker 2: Raiders practice squad. Like for like, but he wants to
- 55:08Speaker 2: go back to his offensive coordinator he played for last year.
- 55:10Speaker 3: Seahawks are off today and tomorrow.
- 55:12Speaker 2: They return to practice Thursday for the opener next Wednesday
- 55:15Speaker 2: versus New England. I'll be out all weekend for the
- 55:17Speaker 2: News Tribune at Labor Day weekend, which is really a
- 55:20Speaker 2: First game prep week because the game's on a Wednesday.
- 55:23Speaker 2: UCLA today fired athletic director Martin Jarmund. The university president
- 55:28Speaker 2: cited the, quote, significant financial deficit that UCLA's athletic department
- 55:33Speaker 2: is in, even though the debt that UCLA is in
- 55:37Speaker 2: is because the college president there decided to join the
- 55:39Speaker 2: Big Ten. And this morning, Tony Romo pleaded no contest
- 55:44Speaker 2: to the civil offense of operating while intoxicated in Wisconsin
- 55:47Speaker 2: and A charge connected to the CBS top NFL analyst
- 55:50Speaker 2: July 23rd arrested in Milwaukee after.
- 55:54Speaker 3: A golf tournament.
- 55:54Speaker 2: In the statement he posted on Instagram, Romo added that
- 55:57Speaker 2: he over-relied on alcohol following his 14-year NFL career to help.
- 56:02Speaker 3: Him from stop using pain medication.
- 56:07Speaker 2: On Friday night in Kansas City, Jason Myers missed an
- 56:11Speaker 2: extra point. The second extra point he missed. Oh, we're
- 56:15Speaker 2: going to go some.
- 56:17Speaker 8: Yep.
- 56:17Speaker 3: Like, is it Cinco de Mayo?
- 56:19Speaker 5: No, it is Uno de September.
- 56:22Speaker 3: It's Septiembre. It is Uno de September. Septiembre it is.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 56:30Speaker 6: Okay. No, no, no. You can go.
- 56:32Speaker 5: Okay. Why did you change it?
- 56:33Speaker 6: You want it?
- 56:34Speaker 5: You want it?
- 56:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 56:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 56:36Speaker 4: Sure.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Jason Meyer's been no bueno in training camp and in
- 56:41Speaker 2: the preseason. I mentioned this to Chuck the other day.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Not only has he missed five of eight kicks during preseason,
- 56:46Speaker 2: And in three preseason games, which is only two fewer
- 56:48Speaker 2: than he missed in 20 regular season and playoff games
- 56:50Speaker 2: last year. He only missed seven all of last year.
- 56:52Speaker 2: He missed zero extra points last season. But he was
- 56:56Speaker 2: missing kicks in training camp. And nobody really made a
- 56:59Speaker 2: big deal out of it. But it was a preponderance
- 57:02Speaker 2: of misses.
- 57:03Speaker 3: There's another word for you, Jessamyn. Preponderance.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Preponderance. I love it.
- 57:07Speaker 5: Let's expand the diction.
- 57:09Speaker 3: There was a preponderance. She said I had big diction
- 57:11Speaker 3: a couple weeks ago and my wife started getting jealous.
- 57:16Speaker 3: But good thing Wendy knows you. Wendy knows me. Anyway,
- 57:22Speaker 3: she's working.
- 57:23Speaker 2: She's got patience.
- 57:23Speaker 3: She's not hearing this. Jason Myers missed five of eight
- 57:27Speaker 3: kicks in the preseason.
- 57:28Speaker 2: He was on his way out of the locker room
- 57:30Speaker 2: in Arrowhead Stadium Friday night to get on the bus
- 57:33Speaker 2: to come back, and the last thing he wanted to
- 57:34Speaker 2: do was talk to me. But dutifully, he stopped when
- 57:37Speaker 2: I called his name from behind, and we talked in
- 57:39Speaker 2: the tunnel under Arrowhead, and he said it's fundamentals. He's
- 57:42Speaker 2: going to look at the film, but it's not a
- 57:44Speaker 2: mental issue, he says, which, of course, with kickers is
- 57:46Speaker 2: a big deal.
- 57:47Speaker 3: He says it's fundamentals.
- 57:48Speaker 2: This is what Jason Myers, the 12-year veteran, said to
- 57:50Speaker 2: be in Kansas City on Friday. Is there anything to
- 57:53Speaker 2: a rhythm or anything.
- 57:56Speaker 3: That you could explain?
- 57:57Speaker 10: I'm just working on it. I always do that.
- 58:02Speaker 6: Make or miss.
- 58:03Speaker 14: Continue to work and keep watching this going.
- 58:05Speaker 6: Just keep getting up there.
- 58:08Speaker 3: Routine's the same.
- 58:09Speaker 6: What's that?
- 58:10Speaker 2: Routine's the same. It's just the nature of your job.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:12Speaker 2: It just happens sometimes. You just got to keep working.
- 58:17Speaker 2: That's what I'll do.
- 58:19Speaker 3: Credit to Jason Myers there.
- 58:21Speaker 2: You know how many times in my career, Jessamyn, that
- 58:23Speaker 2: a player has just blown me off like he can't
- 58:25Speaker 2: hear me when I ask in that situation when he's
- 58:27Speaker 2: walking to the bus? Especially if I'm going to ask
- 58:30Speaker 2: him something bad he doesn't want to talk about. He
- 58:33Speaker 2: could have just kept walking. He had headphones on. He
- 58:36Speaker 2: could have pretended like he didn't hear me. But he's
- 58:38Speaker 2: a pro, and I appreciate it. And I've been covering
- 58:39Speaker 2: it for seven years. He's been a scoring machine for
- 58:42Speaker 2: the Seahawks for seven years. I mean, reliable.
- 58:44Speaker 5: I mean, the Super Bowl alone was enough.
- 58:46Speaker 6: Right.
- 58:47Speaker 3: Many people thought he should have been the MVP of
- 58:49Speaker 3: the Super Bowl.
- 58:50Speaker 5: I thought he was going to.
- 58:51Speaker 3: And there were some people that thought he was going to.
- 58:53Speaker 3: I voted for Devin Witherspoon, by the way.
- 58:55Speaker 2: So how that works, as an aside, the NFL comes
- 58:58Speaker 2: to you. They predetermine before the game. There's only about
- 59:01Speaker 2: 50 media members of the thousands that are covering the game.
- 59:05Speaker 2: And they go to the beat writers, especially beat writers
- 59:07Speaker 2: who have been covering them for a day or two.
- 59:08Speaker 2: And the NFL comes to you and taps you on
- 59:10Speaker 2: the shoulder and says, Greg, do you want to vote
- 59:13Speaker 2: for the Super Bowl MVP? We'll be submitting votes in
- 59:15Speaker 2: the fourth quarter. I said, sure, appreciate that. And Brian
- 59:18Speaker 2: McCarthy of the NFL, the chief PR for Roger Goodell,
- 59:22Speaker 2: asked me that before the game. I said, sure. And
- 59:24Speaker 2: so I submitted Devin Witherspoon, especially after that And I
- 59:29Speaker 2: thought he just impacted the game all over the field.
- 59:31Speaker 5: I think the defense was the name of that.
- 59:35Speaker 2: I agree with you. That was my symbolic Witherspoon or
- 59:38Speaker 2: Derek Hall were my two choices. I get Kenneth Walker
- 59:41Speaker 2: in all the yards. But I thought it should be
- 59:43Speaker 2: a nod to the Seahawks defense, which won the game and,
- 59:45Speaker 2: in fact, was the reason they were where they were
- 59:48Speaker 2: and went to the Super Bowl to begin with. Number
- 59:51Speaker 2: one defense in the NFL. I thought it was fitting
- 59:53Speaker 2: that a Super Bowl MVP. It's rare for defensive players
- 59:55Speaker 2: to get it. But a lot of people thought Jason
- 59:59Speaker 2: Myers should have won it. Five field goals, five for five,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: on a perfect conditions day. What's concerning about Jason Myers
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: right now, if he does say it's fundamentals and he's
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: going to look at the film like you just heard
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: him say, the kicks, most of it, he missed one
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: to the left the other night, but most of them
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: veer to the right and veer wildly. I'm not a
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: kicking expert, but The one he missed from 52 yards
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: was way wide. I mean, it just went from straight
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: down the middle, like it made a right-hand turn, a
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: 90-degree angle. And I saw a lot of kicks in
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: the preseason and practices do the same thing. He missed
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: his extra point to the right. The one he made
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: from 46 yards in Kansas City actually veered to the
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: right inside the goal post. Maybe veered is the wrong
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: word there. Turned to the right. So he's pushing kicks
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: to the right. And it is so much mental. It's
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: like a golfer. If you keep pushing shots to the right,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: then you overcompensate and hook them.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Well, that's what's so individual about that position on a
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: football team.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: Everyone else is playing with a squad.
- 1:01:01Speaker 11: Yes.
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: And you are the golfer on that team.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: And here's the other thing, Jessamyn, as you know, most
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: special teams coaches are not kicking experts. They are coaching
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: of the entire team of special teams, tackling, angles, gunners.
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: Blocks, blocking schemes.
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: It goes both ways. You're on offense and defense.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: But they aren't specialty kicking coaches.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: No.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Most of these kickers have personal training, personal trainer coaching,
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: personal coaching, like quarterbacks having a quarterback coach. But kickers
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: spend a lot of time in the offseason, in effect,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: during the season with their kicking coach. And that's probably
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: where Jason Myers is spending some of this week, I
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: would presume, to work on the root cause of all this.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Is it a concern?
- 1:01:43Speaker 11: Yes.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: I will tell you it is.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: They're not going to say it, but they play their
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: style of play with the number one defense in the
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: NFL that allowed the fewest points in the league last year.
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: Unless they're boat racing teams, which last year they did
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: a fair number of times with the margin scoring difference
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: they had, the scoring differential. But they tend to play
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: lower scoring games because their defense is so good.
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: That's Mike McDonald.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Right. And the very fact that he kicked five field
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: goals in the Super Bowl that they dominated shows you
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: that Jason Myers is important when you have low scoring
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: games dominated by defense. So it is important. If he
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: misses a kick or two or three, and especially ones
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: that would cost him a game, it becomes a problem.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Kickers can kick to their 50 years old. Look at
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: Morton Anderson in the Hall of Fame. And there are
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: examples of kickers who stay around the league a lot.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: There are kickers, they're paid handsomely, but they can play forever.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: And Jason Myers is one of the highest paid kickers.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I think the Steelers kicker, my son knows this off
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: the top of his head, is paid more than, only
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: he is paid more than Jason Myers. I think it's
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: $ 4 million plus a year that Myers is making.
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got a good contract.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: So he's working on it. mechanically, he's looking at film.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: This is what Mike McDonald said after the game in
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Kansas City when he was asked by a reporter, Kansas
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: City reporter, about playing for the field goal from 52
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: yards at the end rather than March. He had a
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: minute 15 and a couple timeouts that they could have
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: tried to get more yards and make it a closer kick.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: This is what McDonald said about that.
- 1:03:11Speaker 15: Going for the touchdown wasn't part of the calculus. We
- 1:03:15Speaker 15: downshifted into a four-minute mode. We've got to figure out
- 1:03:19Speaker 15: a way to keep the ball moving forward there, but
- 1:03:22Speaker 15: We trust JMI, and we've got to give him a
- 1:03:25Speaker 15: better kickoff, frankly. So we'll improve there, but we definitely
- 1:03:29Speaker 15: want him to get the last shot on that one.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: So he's professing he still has faith. It's only August,
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: for sure. And the games don't count, for sure.
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: Wait, I'm sorry. It's, you know, day September 8th.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Sorry, as soon as it's September 8th. That's right. I
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: thought you just played the music that told me that.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: It is September 1st, but they... If this is the
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: regular season he's doing that, of course it's a problem. And,
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: of course, they would look to try out players and
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: perhaps bring somebody in. It's not a problem now. It's
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: a problem if it continues. Let's put it that way.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: But Jason Myers saying, telling you, just.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Heard, if you could hear through the noise in the back.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: I hear you on the text line. Poor audio quality.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I'm not in a soundproof booth when I'm in a
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: locker room at the NFL game, just to let you know.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: There are guys walking behind, equipment guys. There are guys yelling.
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: It's not exactly a library of tranquil.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Sometimes you're on a loading dock. I've been there.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Exactly. It's not a sit down with coffee. I mean, OK,
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I apologize if you couldn't hear it perfectly, but I
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: get it. If you're in a car listening on the radio,
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: it's probably difficult to hear. If you missed it, what
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: he said basically in so many words was, I'm looking
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: at it. I'm checking out film. Basically, I'm looking for
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: fundamentals and mechanics. So that's the Jason Myers situation.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: The fact that the Seahawks play low scoring games means
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: that they're looking at it. But there's nobody– my point
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: to all this is there's.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: No in-house guy for Myers to go to because special
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: teams coach Jay Harbaugh is not a kicking expert per se.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: He's not a mechanics of kicking. So these guys all–
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: and Myers is probably back in his native Southern California.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: They all have their own special kicking gurus, and that's
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: where Jason Myers is probably headed toward. He comes back
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: now to a stadium that he's so used to kicking in,
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: Lumen Field, for what should be a tranquil evening next Wednesday.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: You would think weather conditions won't be a factor, although
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: it is supposed to rain out here tomorrow.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: It hasn't rained here. Well, it rained over the weekend.
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: I wasn't here.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: That forecast just keeps pushing and pushing and pushing.
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: It was supposed to rain all week. It's beautiful today.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: But the season is changing. It is a lot cooler.
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: I'm a fall baby.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: I know you are. I love it.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: I was actually chilling. This is a first world problem.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: I was chilling driving home in my Mustang convertible yesterday.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: From the Seahawks.
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: Oh, did you have the top down?
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: I did.
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: Good for you.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: I put it down to like November, man.
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: Well, if I had that car, I'd probably do the same.
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: I would just shower right before and not blow dry
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: my hair and let the world take care of it.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: I don't blow dry my hair either.
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: You don't? I thought that you went to the salon, Greg.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Yeah, that's me. Great clips. Jason Myers, though, not a concern.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: Safety concern, yes. The depth of safety is a concern
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: with Bud Clark. The other concern the Seahawks have, running back.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I'm a little surprised they did not sign or yet
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: sign or at least claim off waivers a veteran running
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: back from another team. I still think that's a free
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: agent signing coming, that somebody who's available is going to
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: sign here with the Seahawks at a veteran running back.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: And off the top of my head, I don't know
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: who's available.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: I probably should have looked it up before I mentioned it.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: But that's something they're looking at doing. They need more
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: than the three they have on the roster. They have
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: three plus Brady Russell. Emmanuel Henderson conflated the rookie kick
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: returner with the running back. Emmanuel Wilson, they got him
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: from Green Bay, a 500-yard rusher with the Packers last year,
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: missed a lot of training camp with a hamstring injury
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: over the last two and a half, three weeks. He's
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: now back. I saw him go full go in Kansas
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: City pregame. He was running with Jadarian Price, catching passes
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: and taking handoffs from Sam Darnold pregame.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: Through the binoculars of Arrowhead.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: So after the game, I asked McDonald if Wilson's good
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: to go, and he basically said yes. So they like
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: him as a short yardage back. He's more of a plow,
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: big-bodied runner guy than Price is. Price, the question mark,
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: of course, is he has not played a game, it
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: bears repeating, since November 29th, the last game Notre Dame played.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Remember Notre Dame got ticked off, they didn't get in
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: the playoff.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: And they refused a bowl bid?
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: We went uppity and righteous on everybody.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: What?
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: I'm sorry. The Catholic Institution of Notre Dame got righteous?
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Something like that. Yeah. So he hasn't played since November
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: 29th on the farm at Stanford. He had six carries
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: for 15 yards and a catch or two. That's it.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: That's the last game snap he's gotten. And now the
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Seahawks are going to roll him out as running back one.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: George Helani also got a little bit of the bubble
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: wrap treatment in training camp. He's running back two. And
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: now Emmanuel Henderson is running back three. Short yardage, that's
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: your short yardage back. Brady Russell was the only true
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: fullback on the roster. Brock Lampke, they released and waived,
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: was the other running fullback that they had. And, of course,
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Robert Utes, season-ending injured reserve. So when people– I'm on shows.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: I come on national shows, and people want me to
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: come on and talk about the Seahawks. And they say,
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: all right, what's the biggest question with the Super Bowl champions?
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: By far, it's the running backs because you have three
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: running backs. All three of them– well, two of them
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: have never played it down for you. And George Helani
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: has never been a featured role player. He's been a
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: third down running back, the Boise State running back. That's
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: for sure the biggest question mark on a team that
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: wants to run the ball 50% of the time, among
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: the most in the league. And they're going to do
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: it again with Brian Fleury this year. So, Jadarian Price,
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: come on down. You're number one for Wednesday night on
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: complete mothballs since November 29th. 49451, your biggest concern with
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: the Seahawks entering the opener next week.
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: Is it running back? Is it Jason Myers? Is it cornerback?
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: The third cornerback situation with Trevon Diggs. 49451, we'll read
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: back your text next.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: We'll also do talkbacks. I don't know if we have any,
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: but we had a pretty.
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: We have a few.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: There has to be a my cousin Vinny impression.
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: You know what?
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: We haven't gotten that yet.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: But I do welcome it. Just please self-edit so I
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: don't have to beat you.
- 1:09:21Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: You're a chance to be a part of the show next.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Another Coog comes in at 11.45.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: Ian Furness to talk about what he's got going from
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: 12 until 3 on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: I don't know why this song is not playing. But, yeah,
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: I have it. Hold on one second.
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: Sometimes there are technical issues, which happens to be happening
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: to our.
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: Board right now.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: All right, let's just go with it.
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: And there is no audio coming through our board except
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: for our.
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: Mics because we are.
- 1:10:02Speaker 11: Okay.
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: And we have some really good talkbacks that I wish
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: that you could hear right now.
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: We're going to work on those technical issues. In the meantime.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: And we'll get back to you.
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: I will read your text on the Tacoma Dodge text line, 49451. Wait,
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: if you missed the top of the show, we just
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: had to go on and on until the break of
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: dawn about the Mariners. They're just total lack of fundamental baseball.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: And the play, no doubles defense in a center fielder
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: charging to try to catch a sinking line drive that
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: if you just play it, On a hop, you're going
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: to have a single and it's not going to kill you.
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Rolls to the fence, triple. That's how the Reds triple
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: with nobody out. That's how it tied the game. You
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: had one note of it, one beat of it.
- 1:10:46Speaker 14: Almost close.
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: But anyway, if you also missed it earlier, Dave Softy
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: Mahler is the new sideline reporter for our Husky football
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: broadcast here on 93.3 KJR FM. And his first game
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: is none other than the Apple Cup. I think I
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: said 114th, 118th Apple Cup on Sunday, 1 p.m. at
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: Husky Stadium. He will be on the opposite sideline than
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: our own Jessamyn McIntyre, who does Washington State's football broadcast.
- 1:11:09Speaker 5: That's going to be so much fun.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: So what we're trying to do is get him to
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: line up back-to-back in the middle of the Apple Cup logo.
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: I think we need a little saloon style.
- 1:11:18Speaker 14: Yeah, like drawing guns.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: Old-fashioned shootout. That's right. Seven people.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: Hey, Greg.
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: I was listening to you on the Chuck show this morning.
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: Hey, look at that.
- 1:11:24Speaker 14: I think he came up with a great idea.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: I'm going to change the show name from The Greg
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: Bell Show to The Captain and Jess Show.
- 1:11:30Speaker 14: It just sounds perfect together.
- 1:11:31Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:11:32Speaker 14: It's supposed to be a great soap opera show. Or
- 1:11:34Speaker 14: a comedy.
- 1:11:43Speaker 19: Hey, Softie, how about Mark Bruner, you dumbass?
- 1:11:46Speaker 14: You're not old enough to remember that.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: Was he in a helicopter? I thought we were going
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: to be like.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: I thought that was like Get Him to the Chopper style.
- 1:11:55Speaker 11: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: I thought that was going to be a Schwarzenegger reference.
- 1:11:58Speaker 5: Okay, so we have some things that are working.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: The thing with the captain, though, it'd be too much
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: to remind me of Captain and Tennille.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: That's dating myself. You don't even know what that is.
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: No, I don't.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: That's back from the 1970s.
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: I think I've heard of it. That's a musical group
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: who had a variety show back in the 1970s. I'm
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: dating myself.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: But this morning.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: And if you may know, 7 o'clock every day we
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: talk about the Seahawks with Chuck Powell from 7 to
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: 7.30 or 7.25 or so. And he started my appearance
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: on his show this morning asking me what my rank was.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: In the Army.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: I said I retired as a captain. It wasn't technically retired.
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: You have to be 20 years to technically retire. I
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: voluntarily gave up my commission with an honorable discharge as
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: a captain in 03.
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: Officer 3. It ranks 1, 2, 3. So I was
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: in the third. It goes up to general of eights
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: and such. So no one calls you a retired captain.
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: That just doesn't happen.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: You're just a captain.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: If you're in the military, well, no one calls you
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: by your rank if you only serve five years in
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: the active duty. I serve nine if you count my
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: West Point years. But I don't walk around saying retired
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: Captain Greg Bell. Anyone who's in the military would just
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: laugh at that. And now if you're a colonel or
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: a sergeant major or certainly a general and you spent
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: 25 years of your life serving our country, you deserve
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: to be called retired general. But A retired sergeant major.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: But not a retired captain. So I don't throw that around.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: So Chuck was saying, should we call you Captain Bell?
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: Matt Sakaris in.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Vancouver, who you know of. He had Sakaris and Price
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: show for years and years up there. And they now
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: have a podcast, Sakaris and Price. because Vancouver got rid
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: of all their sports talk radio up in BC. They still,
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: to this day, call me Captain Bell, and they have
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: me on the show, and they call me Captain.
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: It's a big running joke, and I try to downplay it, saying, really, guys,
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: I'm Mr. Bell, because it's not Captain. Anyway, that's where
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: all that Captain and Tennille stuff comes from.
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: Well, that's fun. That is just fun.
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: Exactly. 425, or excuse me, 49451 in the Tacoma Dodge
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: text line. There was a.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: Question on the roster question. I'm trying to find it.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: I don't know where it is, though. Yeah, 206.
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: Are there limitations when it comes to how many players
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: in the NFL you can place on injured reserve eligible
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: to return?
- 1:14:10Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: Eight.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: You can go up to eight during the season. If
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: you make the playoffs, you get two more for a
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: total of ten. The Seahawks used nine of their ten
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: return to their designations IR to return last year.
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: They didn't use one more. They had one more in
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: the postseason they did not.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: Use, but it's eight.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: That's also those rules have changed recently.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Daily Math and the Mariners, 253, reminds us the M's
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: have to go 17-7 the rest of the way to
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: make it to 500. They couldn't even do that against
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: the Aqua Sox, is what 253 says.
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: Oh, boy.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: I hate to say it, but 54%, the Potos 54%
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: would be pretty damn good right now. It would be
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: like eight games up in the division. Maybe more than that,
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: like 10 games up if they were at 54%. Seattle Mariners, 253,
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: stupid is as stupid does. The Seahawks 206. So the
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: tea leaves would seem to indicate Eamon Worry is good
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: to go? He's on the 53, and DeAnthony Bell isn't
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: even on the practice squad. Yes, it would suggest that,
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: although I believe DeAnthony Bell has chosen not to sign,
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: I think they wanted him back, and he is shopping
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: for another deal somewhere. I will say the practice squad
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: as it exists today and yesterday is going to change
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: a couple times before the season opener, and Bell, if
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: he remains unsigned, could come back. Last I checked, Igben, Ogdeny,
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: and Bell were still unsigned. as unrestricted free agents.
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: And how much time do we have?
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: Till.
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: Till we know where they are.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: Well, they can sign, now that they're unrestricted free agents
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: who have, they're not subject to waivers, they can sign
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: at any time. There's no, we may find out tomorrow, today,
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: next week that they've signed with some team.
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: But it's just out there in ether? There's no deadline?
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: No. Now that they're unrestricted free agents, they're not subject
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: to waivers and the waiver period ended yesterday morning anyway.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: So yeah, they could be signed at any time and
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: They're probably shopping for 53-man roster spots that open up
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: because they know they can always come back to the
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: Seahawks practice squad, or you would think. Cody White, though, interestingly,
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: saw a roadblock, obviously, here because why else would you
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: sign with the Raiders practice squad if you can come
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: back to the Seahawks practice squad? Come back to a
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: last-place team's practice squad versus the Super Bowl champions. He
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: didn't see much of a future for him here and
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: probably ticked off that he lost his spot after all
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: he's done. Every time they've asked him to do something
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: in four years, he's done it. including on special teams.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: But Clint Kubiak, the obvious draw, the offensive coordinator he
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: had last year, gave him a shot, and he got
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: his first NFL.
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: Touchdown to become Clint Kubiak. Yes, Brian, we won his
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: last road start. I am aware of that. Thank you.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: Appreciate that.
- 1:16:44Speaker 4: 4-2-5.
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: We do have some more talkbacks coming in, if you
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: don't mind me playing them.
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: Of course not.
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: Because I love them. I know you do. Hold on.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: Jass G.
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: Bell.
- 1:16:56Speaker 12: No impressions today. Nothing to laugh about. The Mariners are garbage. Yes,
- 1:17:01Speaker 12: Dan Wilson sucks, but I'm going to say something. Someone,
- 1:17:04Speaker 12: we're going to leave their name out. Anybody that supports
- 1:17:07Speaker 12: Jerry DiBloto is fooling themselves and clearly.
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: Doesn't know baseball.
- 1:17:12Speaker 12: Wilson's not supposed to be good.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: He had no experience.
- 1:17:15Speaker 12: The analytics, the free agent crap signings, the way he
- 1:17:18Speaker 12: runs the organization, and the overall mentality of the team,
- 1:17:21Speaker 12: it's all DiBloto.
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: Well, there you go.
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: That is a very straightforward assessment of.
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: Where we are.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: The 206 says the core problem with Mariners baseball operations
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: is down to the players. They collectively have no why. 425,
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: Stan Kroenke, of course, he owns the Rams, just bought
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: the Angels.
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: Great. Now we have the second worst owners in the division. Oh,
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: I get the reference there.
- 1:17:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I do, too. We'll let the fan decide on
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: that one.
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: 2-5-3.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: At this point, I think the Mariners should just call
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: up anybody they want to take a look at for
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: next year. Sid Julio, Sid Cowell, bring up some pitchers.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Let's see what we've got, who we can deal in
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: the offseason. Well, the roster's just expanded. If you missed it,
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Laz Montes officially called up. That news came out yesterday.
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: He was going to be coming up. Put him in
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: the lineup. Don't bring Laz Montes up here to watch
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: games in September. Put him in right field tonight in
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: Fenway Park. Put Victor Robles in center and bench Julio
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: Rodriguez and say, well, you're not playing because you went no-doubles.
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: Rogue last night.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: Out of our no-doubles defense, you just went rogue and
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: tried to play hero ball.
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: And you throw balls into the stands when there's only
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: one or two outs.
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: He said some oopsie-daisy. There was a play in Toronto
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: that I don't know if anyone noticed. There was a
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: single up the middle with a runner at second. He
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: yielded to a Rosarito. in basically center field. I mean,
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: it was not even left center, but he yielded to
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: a Rosarito who had to run far from left field across.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: His body is going away from the throw home. The
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: center fielder's job there is to charge that ball hard
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: and deter the runner from third from scoring. And if
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: Rodriguez had come up throwing, that runner would have stopped.
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: But because the third base coach saw the left fielder
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: cutting across and running away from home plate to get
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: the ball, he sent him, and he scored. Another wasted run.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: And I remember it was with two outs.
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: McIntyre household was not happy.
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: Do you remember that play?
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: Uh-huh.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: That's a fundamental.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: That's another baseball fundamental. If I was coaching university prep,
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: as I used to, the varsity coach at baseball, I
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: would have.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: Said, what are you doing?
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: You realize that run just scored because you're running 150
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: feet and going away from home plate. The third base coach, see,
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: that's my job as a third base coach.
- 1:19:46Speaker 8: 100%.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: You coach. The managers in high school usually coach third base.
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: You get in an angle where you can watch who's
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: approaching that ground ball single to center field. And if
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: you don't see the center field on his horse coming up,
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: you're sending the runner. And that's exactly what Rodriguez played.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: This laissez-faire played back. A Rose Arena cut in front
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: of him, and they scored a run because of it.
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: That is Pony League fundamentals.
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: And they lost by one.
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: And he still plays.
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: You should be benched for that stuff, and you should
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: have been benched for that stuff back in May. But
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: he's making $ 200 million at the face of the franchise.
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: He's DJ whatever.
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: His name was. Okay.
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: DJ J-Rod?
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: No, it was DJ... Julio? No, it was like DJ.
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: Verve or something. It was the night of Home Run Derby.
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: My son and I were there.
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: Oh, I mean, I remember the whole thing happening. I
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: just didn't remember his name.
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: I can't remember the name yet.
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: All right, let's get a few more voices in here.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Bravo, Greg. Thank you for saying what many of us
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: out here have been feeling all year long. The dumb
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: baseball team has no fire. The manager can't even light
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: a fire underneath himself, let alone his players.
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: Or hold anybody accountable for making.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: Blunders. Thank you.
- 1:21:00Speaker 10: Bravo, my friend.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: Hey there, Greg and Jessamyn, Chris and Birian. Go Cougs, baby!
- 1:21:07Speaker 2: I hope I can just tailgate with a few folks
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: and actually enjoy Sunday before kickoff. I'm not really sure how.
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: That's going to go.
- 1:21:17Speaker 10: Dan Wilson has never managed anything in his life. Much
- 1:21:22Speaker 10: like Katie Wilson, the city needs better.
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: The team needs better. Hopefully both Wilsons are out soon,
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: sooner than later. Go Hawks!
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure they're not related.
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: We got politics in our show.
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: That was a lot in a little.
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: Another Seahawks question from the 425.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: Do you see Emmanuel Wilson as the Charbonnet role currently,
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: getting the goal line and red zone work, Or is
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: it full steam ahead on Price? Well, that's two different questions.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: He is going to get goal line. I don't know
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: how much red zone, but he's going to get short yardage,
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: Emmanuel Wilson is, because of what I told you. He's
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: a different style than Price. It is full steam ahead
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: on Price. He's the number one back with Helani spelling him.
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: We'll see how many carries break out, but they didn't
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: draft Jadarian Price, Jadarian Price, number one. 32nd overall to
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: sit and watch games.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: He's playing.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: That's why they bubble-wrapped him. He'll be your number one
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: running back on opening night, and they love him. They
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: love how he cuts into the outside zone, all of that.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: Thanks for all your time. There's so many to get to.
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: So many My Cousin Vinny references.
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: And the tires. That was another great scene with the
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: witness expert.
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: You know when you get the, yeah.
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: Pause attraction, and there's no way this car could have
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: made these tire marks.
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: Independent rear suspension. That's it.
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: That is it. You've been a beautiful, beautiful witness.
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: They went from about divorce to make it out on
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: the stand in that whole scene.
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: Lovely, a lovely, lovely witness.
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: Even the judge was enamored with.
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: He had to be.
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: Yes, he did.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: Let's get to the mayor. I still want to do
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: some My Cousin Vinny reference.
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: Oh, well, let's do it at the end.
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: How about the lawyer? I'm cynical. But the way he
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: makes up a name of a guy who's dead, Calo.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: You mean Calo? Of course he's dead.
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, no.
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: Everyone knows he's dead.
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: Jerry Gallo, of course he's dead.
- 1:23:28Speaker 19: C-A-L-L-O.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:23:30Speaker 5: Okay, I'm sorry.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: Sorry, we've digressed. Up next, Stephen Mayer from Maple Valley,
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: Ian Furness on Apple Cup Week on 93.3 KJFM.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: Hi, welcome back.
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: Greg Bell and Justin McIntyre. We've had a My Cousin
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: Vinny medley throughout this show. Best scene of My Cousin Vinny,
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: Ian Furness.
- 1:23:58Speaker 14: I'm going to tell you. I'm not a movie guy.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 1:24:01Speaker 14: I'm not a movie guy.
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: Really?
- 1:24:03Speaker 14: Yeah, I drive softy crazy every day during Cross Talk.
- 1:24:06Speaker 14: I'll watch movies. I don't remember what they are. I
- 1:24:08Speaker 14: don't remember lines. I can remember a few lines from Slapshot.
- 1:24:12Speaker 14: That's about it.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: I'm not surprised by that.
- 1:24:16Speaker 14: The Brothers?
- 1:24:16Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:24:17Speaker 14: I'm just not. It's weird. I've never been a movie,
- 1:24:20Speaker 14: at least in terms of remembering stuff and all that,
- 1:24:23Speaker 14: like some people are. I just don't.
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: I guess because I've seen My Cousin Vinny about 900 times.
- 1:24:27Speaker 14: That's probably why.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: Yeah, it's ingrained. That, Cars, and Sandlot. I think I've
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: seen those three movies a thousand times.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: Oh, Sandlot, yeah.
- 1:24:34Speaker 14: Yeah, all good.
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: All good movies.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: So the 118th Apple Cup on Sunday, we announced during
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: our show, Dave Sofke-Mahler is going to.
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: Be the new sideline announcer.
- 1:24:42Speaker 11: Oh, really?
- 1:24:43Speaker 14: Okay.
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: For Husky Broadcast here on 93.3 KJR. Oh, good.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: He's going to be opposite of Jessamyn McIntyre on Sunday.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: Can you imagine if you're Cougs lead 14-3 at halftime,
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: and Dave Softy Muller's job is to run down Jed Fish.
- 1:24:57Speaker 14: Oh, it would be great. It would be awesome. I
- 1:25:00Speaker 14: don't think it will happen, but it would be awesome.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: He said that there were 2,000 tickets allotted to the–
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: it seems low– to Washington State, and only 600 have
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: been bought is what he's been told. Okay. He thinks
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: it's going to be the smallest contingent of Cougs ever
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: at an Apple Cup at Husky Stadium. Okay. Why is that?
- 1:25:17Speaker 14: Because people don't care.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: Even though they're all from western Washington.
- 1:25:21Speaker 14: It's not the same. I mean, you're playing in September,
- 1:25:23Speaker 14: the first game of the year. Nobody knows what to expect.
- 1:25:26Speaker 14: If you're a Wazoo fan, you don't know what to expect.
- 1:25:31Speaker 14: You don't know who's on the team.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: Neither do the Huskies.
- 1:25:34Speaker 14: No, they know. I mean, they got DeMond Williams is
- 1:25:38Speaker 14: still there, last I checked.
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: No, I'm saying they don't know the Cougs. I think
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: it's an advantage.
- 1:25:43Speaker 14: Oh, yeah. But you're talking about tickets, though, right? Yeah,
- 1:25:46Speaker 14: I'm talking about fan interest. I just don't think– most
- 1:25:49Speaker 14: of my Wazoo fans, friends are like very just apathetic
- 1:25:53Speaker 14: about it, uh, the game and, and even just overall,
- 1:25:57Speaker 14: it's the reality of it. I mean, that's not, I mean,
- 1:26:00Speaker 14: you can't change how people feel. I mean, people want
- 1:26:02Speaker 14: to yell and scream and, you know, it's, it's, that's
- 1:26:05Speaker 14: just the reality. Like they just, you know, how, how, if,
- 1:26:09Speaker 14: if you're a lifelong or even since you went there,
- 1:26:14Speaker 14: Cougar fan and, uh, the one thing you always knew
- 1:26:19Speaker 14: is that you, and Dick brought this up yesterday. It
- 1:26:21Speaker 14: was a great point. Like, and it's true. We would
- 1:26:24Speaker 14: enter every season kind of as the king of the
- 1:26:27Speaker 14: little guys in a lot of ways. He didn't say that,
- 1:26:29Speaker 14: but I am, but you know, like you had a
- 1:26:30Speaker 14: chance to do something, go to a Rose Bowl, go
- 1:26:33Speaker 14: to a big game, be a top 25 program, be
- 1:26:35Speaker 14: a team that, you know, in 2018 with Gardner Minshew's
- 1:26:38Speaker 14: a top 10 team, have game day come there. You
- 1:26:40Speaker 14: had all those things in front of you, all that
- 1:26:42Speaker 14: stuff existed. So every year there was anticipation. You'd be excited. And,
- 1:26:47Speaker 14: You know, especially when Mike Leach was there, especially when
- 1:26:49Speaker 14: Price or the late Bill Dober for a couple of years.
- 1:26:52Speaker 14: I mean, you know, like, like we had all those expectations.
- 1:26:55Speaker 14: We had, we had every, like you had everything in
- 1:26:58Speaker 14: front of it. There's two programs in this country that
- 1:27:00Speaker 14: don't have that anymore. It's us and Oregon State.
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: It's true.
- 1:27:02Speaker 14: So like how, how, when people want to rip wazoo
- 1:27:05Speaker 14: or fan bases or anything like that, I counter with,
- 1:27:09Speaker 14: how would you feel?
- 1:27:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: You've gotten your knees capped.
- 1:27:11Speaker 14: Well, and, and, you know, it's. And I'm not– listen,
- 1:27:15Speaker 14: I don't like Washington. Didn't like Washington before. Don't like
- 1:27:20Speaker 14: them now. I also don't blame them for what they did.
- 1:27:23Speaker 14: It's self-preservation. You had to do it. Didn't like it
- 1:27:27Speaker 14: that day. Have come to accept it because, again, it's self-preservation.
- 1:27:32Speaker 14: They had to take that. It's not always grass is
- 1:27:34Speaker 14: greener at UCLA. They get a full damn share. Washington
- 1:27:37Speaker 14: gets half a share.
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: And they still fired their coach for indebted– or their
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: athletic director today.
- 1:27:41Speaker 14: They're more in debt than anybody, and they get a
- 1:27:42Speaker 14: full share for the Big Ten money. I mean, I
- 1:27:45Speaker 14: hope that thing just implodes down there in Westwood. But
- 1:27:48Speaker 14: the point being is that, you know, like, I was
- 1:27:52Speaker 14: just talking to a big boss here, you know, CrossFit
- 1:27:54Speaker 14: Mark here. And, you know, I said, this is the
- 1:27:57Speaker 14: hard thing is that if you look at a roster,
- 1:28:01Speaker 14: we get the same players. We're not getting different players.
- 1:28:04Speaker 14: We're still getting the two and three star guys. Still
- 1:28:07Speaker 14: get the same guys. The difference is if those guys
- 1:28:10Speaker 14: used to be, they would develop and become you know,
- 1:28:13Speaker 14: a great player, Marcus Trufano, whoever, right? And they would
- 1:28:16Speaker 14: become that. Now, if they get good, John the Tier, whatever,
- 1:28:21Speaker 14: they're gone. How can you keep your level of enthusiasm
- 1:28:25Speaker 14: when that's the case?
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: Hard to argue with that.
- 1:28:29Speaker 14: And how could you be fired up for a rivalry
- 1:28:32Speaker 14: game that used to be a conference game in November
- 1:28:39Speaker 14: to cap off the season? and a chance to ruin
- 1:28:42Speaker 14: a season, make a season, all those things.
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: Go to the Pac-12 championship.
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: Do whatever.
- 1:28:47Speaker 14: All those things are on the table. Now you're playing
- 1:28:50Speaker 14: the first game of the year against a team that's
- 1:28:52Speaker 14: not in your conference. Whatever.
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: I wonder if Husky Stadium will be sold out. I
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: doubt it.
- 1:28:59Speaker 14: Highly doubt it if they're giving tickets back.
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: If Washington resells them. What do you got today?
- 1:29:04Speaker 14: We're going to do a little deep dive into the Mariners,
- 1:29:07Speaker 14: the motions. I'll leave it at that. We're going to
- 1:29:09Speaker 14: do that. Joe Sheehan is going to join us at 120,
- 1:29:11Speaker 14: his weekly visit. He went off on the Blue Sky
- 1:29:14Speaker 14: app last night. I guess that's like the other Twitter.
- 1:29:17Speaker 14: I saw some of those posts.
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: He wrote a story.
- 1:29:18Speaker 14: I'm not sure if he's posted it yet. He's not
- 1:29:21Speaker 14: a big fan of Dan Wilson. National guy that just
- 1:29:25Speaker 14: thought that loss was completely avoidable last night. So he'll
- 1:29:28Speaker 14: join us for his weekly visit, but really Mariner-centric more
- 1:29:30Speaker 14: so than ever coming up today. That's at 1.20 and
- 1:29:32Speaker 14: then John Lund at 2 p.m.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: I thought Jose Ferreira got kicked off the team yesterday.
- 1:29:37Speaker 14: He probably had too many pitches the day before in
- 1:29:39Speaker 14: a meaningless game. You know the rules. Don't you know
- 1:29:42Speaker 14: the rules yet?
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: I do.
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: I know them so well.
- 1:29:44Speaker 14: They apply to everybody except for Bazzardo. Bazzardo can pitch
- 1:29:47Speaker 14: every game four innings and he's okay.
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: He should be benched the rest of the season for
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: what he did letting a guy slide by him.
- 1:29:51Speaker 8: I know.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: Up next, Ian Ferdelli, 12 until 3.
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: Justin McIntyre and I thank you for listening.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: If you missed everything, it was kind of a rollicking
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: first hour. If you missed that, go to the iHeartRadio
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: app or 933KGR.
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: Com. Ian's up next. We'll do it again tomorrow, 10
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: to noon on 93.3 KJRFM.
